Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Fannie Flag...
Racism deeply affects how people are treated. Because of the color of someone s skin, people
are often looked at treated and differently. In the novel Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle
Stop CafГ©, Fannie Flag illustrates the Racism as a theme in many different ways. The stories
start off with the introduction of two women, Ninny and Evelyn who meet in a nursing home, and
Ninny tells the tales of her days back in the whistle stop cafГ©, around the 1920 s. Throughout
the story the appearance and mention of the Ku Klux Klan appears at various times, and black
men are given food out the back door, while the white men are fed inside at the tables; how black
peoplewere viewed at the time was transparent; they were thought of as lower people, and they
were treated like dirt. Racismimpacts how people are treated and people who are subjected to it to

People treat others differently based on the color of their skin. The author showcases this
throughout the novel, through the lives of Artis and Jasper, twin siblings who have extensively
different complexions than one another, The oldest son, whom she named Jasper, was the color
of a creamy cup of coffee, and the other one, named Artis, was black as coal (97). Coffee is
typically thought of as something warm and pleasant, while coal is dark and grimy. This may be
considered a metaphor for their lives, as Jasper s was always warm and welcoming, and Artis
pathway was dark, he saw horrible things in his time even though he was well behaved. People
treated Jasper with much more respect than his brother, Artis, and the sole reason was obvious.
Because of the color of someone s skin, they are likely to be subjected to unfair assumptions, which

ECL in China
Case Study
Problem Identification and Situational Analysis ECL is a multi national corporation that continues
to expand its core business as well as create opportunities for foreign divisions to influence the
direction of the company in addition to bringing cohesion and unity throughout the workforce. ECL
developed a division in China that allowed the company to integrate into the Chinese market but
also presented it with issues it would need to manage successfully in order to progress in this
venture. There are various cultural issues facing ECL in China. The first is the qualities not often
seen in American industries and those are the obedience and humility among the Chinese workers.
In the Chinese culture this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chinese workers believe that close personal relationships are imperative to effective
communication. American companies don t share the same views and some organizations have
even related this to workplace fraternization, which can result in disciplinary action. Since we
don t believe that these relationships are necessary, or even appropriate, we don t form them and
this could affect a bi national workplace and possibly even carry over to business dealings
outside of the company. The Chinese believe that, when conducting business with other people, a
relationship must first be formed to gain the trust of business partners. American companies rely
heavily on systems and processes, which is viewed as highly efficient by the American standard
while the Chinese workers with ECL aren t accustomed to this and believe that it s not always
necessary to establish a system to follow in order to complete a task. The difference in views on
this could also present some serious problems for ECL, as the Chinese workers may view the
American management style as inefficient or sluggish.
Recommendations
ECL manages cultural diversity by having Constant respect for people and Uncompromising
integrity . (Wo, 2001) A significant number of companies that have ventured into international
business did not attempt to adjust to the foreign culture and rather tried to take the business

Essay On American Antisemitism
Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when
they re called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many
reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the
standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem,
however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European
countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current
situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed.
Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten
past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are
still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. Greek was
recently revealed to be the most anti semitic country in Europe, with 69 percent of Greeks
espousing anti Semitic views, according to the survey, Greece was on par with Saudi Arabia, more
anti Semitic than Iran... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crisis started with Crimea, when soldiers began to take control of strategic positions in the
Ukrainian territory. Russia then annexed the small territory, while Putin denied Russian military
involvement. He finally admitted that the military had been active in Crimea and had laid the
groundwork for what is known as the Crimean Status Referendum. While a ceasefire has been
enacted, in the final hours before it occurred, Putin sent what United States State Department called

Case Study At The Hospital For Tropical Diseases, Thailand
Study design and population This prospective study was conducted at the Hospital for Tropical
Diseases, Thailand. Patients admitted to the hospital between May 2013 and July 2015 who met
the study criteria were approached for participation. The study s inclusion criteria were: (1)
patients at least 15 years old; (2) presenting with clinical criteria for dengue defined as acute fever
with at least two of the following symptoms: headache, retro orbital or ocular pain, myalgia,
arthralgia, rash, a positive tourniquet test (defined as the presence of ≥20 petechiae per 1 square

All dengue patients in this study received standard care according to the WHO treatment
guidelines for dengue by treating physicians [1, 3]. Type and amount of fluid intake and urine
output were also recorded daily during hospitalization. Patient data including baseline
characteristics, clinical parameters, laboratory findings, hemodynamic parameters, IVCd, IVCc,
cardiac biomarkers, ECG, chest X ray, type of fluid, daily fluid intake and urine output per day
were recorded in a pre defined case report form. Severity of dengue was summarized on the date of
discharge according to the WHO s 2009 definition [3].
Case definition of dengue According to the WHO s 2009 definition for dengue [3], dengue
patients were classified into non severe dengue and severe dengue based on clinical and laboratory
criteria. Patients with non severe dengue were sub categorized into three groups depending on the
presence or absence of warning signs. Non severe dengue without warning signs was defined as
having acute fever with at least two of the following criteria: nausea, vomiting, rash, myalgia,
arthralgia, a positive tourniquet test, or leukopenia. Warning signs included: (1) abdominal pain, (2)
persistent vomiting (vomiting with signs of dehydration), (3) clinical fluid accumulation (pleural

Corporatism Vs Communism
Finally, there are several classifications applicable to DPRK as a false communist state.
Cummings, 2005 describes DPRK as something that evolved into a singular and puzzling nation
that resists easy description and this is because no universally recognised brand of ideology can be
granted. D. Suh states In the three decades since its establishment the political system (...) has
undergone fundamental changes. With the advent of a new socialist constitution in 1972, emphasis
seemed to shift from the party to the legitimacy and operation of the government. The government
developed from a satellite communist state to a self reliant member of the third world . Kim Il
Sung emerged from the volatility of the 1950s as the undisputed leader in the 1960s and promoted

It predated the emergence of liberalism, it fueled the romantics of the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries (...) and it sparks the dreams of utopians who envision a transcendence of liberalism.
Essentially, corporatism is the control of state by large interest groups and in history is
displayed in three primal themes. Traditional corporatism includes a hierarchy, organic
connection and family. These have three great images that resonate with it political fatherhood,
the body politic and the great chain, examples of this are Mussolini and Henry VIII. The
ideology of Kim Il Sung resonated loudly with the ideologies of corporatism however in typical
DPRK fashion, North Korea developed a unique sect. Key to DPRK s corporatism is a
philosophy of a God like figure, a beloved father of the people. An almighty saviour. Cummings
describes how the personality cult surrounding the Kim dynasty means North Korea is closer to a
Neo Confucian kingdom than to a Stalin s Russia . Thus, as the features of North Korean society

Life Experience In My Life
Life Lesson
Almost three years ago my mom was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis. Bacterial Meningitis is
very life threatening if not treated immediately. It was a very scary experience for everyone. With
this experience I have learned a very important lesson, don t ever take your parents for granted
because you could easily lose them and maybe sooner then you thought.
Sinus Infection
On a Saturday morning my mom woke up with a headache saying,
This is the worst headache I ve ever had in my life. She was also super tired and almost slept all
day. My family and I just thought it was nothing or her being overreactive. My dad and brother
ended up taking her to an ER early in the afternoon. They did a CT Scan and only found a Sinus
Infection. They were lazy on testing with plenty more options just didn t want to take the time. She
was sent home with medication that did not help lessen any of her symptoms.
Arriving Home
I remember walking in after spending the day with my sister and seeing my mom s medication
just on the floor in the breezeway. She was sleeping in her room at the time but soon woke up and
said,
The pain is getting worse and spreading to my neck. There was nothing we could really do; she
was diagnosed with sinus infection. Later that night I was downstairs with my brother and we
were playing the Xbox. My mom comes down and doesn t really say anything, all we heard was
mumbling. I tell her to rest in my sister s room and she tries going

Impact Of Ecological Modernization On South Africa And The Uk
Introduction
Ecological modernisation has not only found application around the world in empirical studies and
theoretical debates but politicians also are using it to shape environmental reform programs in both
developed and developing countries (Mol et al., 2010). It is a green ideology that accounts for
changes in national and regional environmental policies and regulation. Therefore, this essay seeks
to compare changes in national environmental policies and regulation in South Africa and the UK
following the influence of ecological modernization. Focussing on how the ideas of economic
growth environmental protection coexistence and market based environmental policy instruments

According Mol and others (2010), since the beginning of contemporary environmentalism around
the 1960 sand 1970s (and with the Report to the Club of Rome, the Blueprint for Survival and the
inception of several new environmental NGO), we can deduce three landmark events that have
catalysed innovation in and reform of environmental policies, practices and awareness. Attracting
global environmental attention, these three events are crucial to understanding the genesis and
development of the ideas of ecological modernization and how these ideas have influenced change
in environmental policies and regulation in both the global North and global south since the 1980s.
The first event is the publication of the Brundtland Report in 1987, which is commonly known as
Our Common Future. Through this Report, the World Commission on Environment and
Development (WCED) made a decisive statement in support of sustainable development (WCSD
1987). The Brundtland Report is considered to be central to ecological modernization such that Mol
and others (2010) argue that ecological modernization theory can be understood as the social
scientific elaboration and formalisation of the undergirding philosophy pertaining to environmental
reform enunciated in Our Common Future. Among other things, the Brundtland Report aimed to
overcome the North South divide on questions

The Role Of Social Media On Healthcare
INTRODUCTION The healthcare industry is slowly embracing and recognizing the importance
and power of social media. Millions of people of all ages go online each day, to seek information,
do online research, share photos, write blogs, watch videos, play online games, and so much
more. Many healthcare businesses have already, or are starting, to create an online presence to
capture the millions of people that go online every day. Social media can help healthcare
professionals and organizations to promote and advertise their products and services locally and
globally. Different healthcare social media sites make it easier for consumers to locate the
products and/or services they want to find. Successful healthcare social media sites are designed to
be engaging, interactive and to create positive relationships with existing consumers. Then,
potential new clients can make better purchasing decisions based on the first hand experience from
others who have personal knowledge of the product or service. ROLE OF HEALTHCARE
SOCIAL MEDIA The role of social media in healthcare follows the same principles as most other
industries in terms of mass communication, global reach, engagement, and instantaneous feedback
from and to a relevant group of people. In short, the healthcare social media platform is an effective,
low cost method to share information, create communities, and maintain relationships with key
groups. The Executive Director of Deloitte

Analysis and Evaluation of the Types of Emotion Essay
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis and evaluation of the Types of Emotion from the
scientific/empirical and Islamic perspectives. The paper presumes that the readers are familiar with
the content of the topic in question based on the introductory Psychology textbook by Ciccarelli
and White (2010). Therefore, this paper will focus more the analysis and evaluation, rather than the
description and details of the topic.
Types of Emotion
An emotion is experienced as a feeling that motivates, organizes, and guides perception, thought,
and action (Izard, 1991). Emotions can be classified into three major categories which are: (1) the
physiology of emotion, (2) the behaviour of emotion, and (3) the subjective ... Show more content

However, in 1991, Izard stated that despite the genetically based mechanisms for the fundamental
emotions, experience can modify aspects of emotion. A person is capable of learning to inhibit or
modify the innate emotional expressions.
In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions
can be modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional
expressions can be inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves
baring one s teeth to prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their
teeth and compress their lips instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of
emotion depending on the context. This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or
respect.
The prophet s.a.w. said: He who does not show mercy to our little ones or recognize the rights of
our elders is not one of us (narrated by Ahmad and Tirmizi). The prophet s.a.w explicitly denounced
any who disrespects the elders from the brotherhood of the Muslim community. A firm believer and
practitioner of Islam would adhere to this hadith and control any undesirable emotional expressions
that would be regarded as

Why Is New York Important
New York not only has beautiful locations or astoundingly tall buildings, but also has significance
to the United States. I chose this state because of its history and its beauty, and I do wish to
witness the beauty for myself. This state has gone through many things like being attacked on
September 11, 2001, and one of its most popular cities, New York City, being the first capital of the
United States. The aforementioned events is part of what makes this state interesting and so

York has been protecting the species hibernation sites and limiting forest management activities

Blue Water walks us through Rayona s coming of age story and the three perspectives that it is
being told in, Rayona s, Christine s, and Ida s. Although Rayona and Christine are very different,
they both seem to be facing similar problems; they end up helping one another find their self identity
and both are finally able to appreciate and understand one another. Rayona is in a way lost and
can t seem to find her place in the world. She thinks about herself in the way that she thinks
others think of her. She is fifteen years old at the time and does not have a lot of sense of her
self. Rayona is half African American and Native American, which makes her think she s
different from others and makes her have a low self esteem. She struggles with her identity and
physical appearance. Another thing that makes it difficult for her to find her true self is that she
lacks information about her heritage. Her dream is to have a normal life, meaning to have a
functional happy family and to be able to fit in. Rayona feels like a real family is the opposite of
what she has. She goes through a series of events and learns a little about her self in each of them.

The Membrane Of The Cell Membrane
1.0 Introduction
1.1 The Cell Membrane Biological cells have a membrane that separates the contents of the cell
from its exterior environment and serves a number of functions. The membrane is partially
permeable, facilitating and controlling what materials pass into and out of the cell. The membrane
can produce different compartments within the cell in addition to allowing electrical signals to pass
along them, playing a role in cell signalling and creating attachment sites for enzymes and
molecules involved in the metabolism (Keeton, 1983, p. 71).
1.2 The Phospholipid Bilayer
The membrane of the cell is composed of a Phospholipid Bilayer with various protein molecules
floating within it phospholipids are fats and are constructed of two fatty acid tails that are
hydrophobic and a Phosphate head that is hydrophilic. The heads orientate themselves towards the
water molecules outside of the cell with the hydrophobic tails pointing away from the water
molecules. A second tier of phospholipids forms a mirror image with the heads pointing towards
the water molecules inside the cell itself. These two tiers of Phospholipids form the Phospholipid
Bilayer (Keeton, 1983, p. 71). Figure 1 Phospholipid Bilayer
1.3 The Fluid Mosaic Model
The Fluid Mosaic Model (Keeton, 1983, p. 71) shows that within the Phospholipid Bilayer are a
number of proteins that float freely and form a mosaic pattern. These proteins can be intrinsic and
exist through the complete thickness of the membrane

Homosexuality as a Sin Essay
Homosexuality as a Sin
The topic of homosexuality in religion has many sides. There are those who believe that it is a
sin in God s eyes and according to the Bible, and there are those who believe the God and the
Bible are not specific to homosexuals. It is a tough debate based on whether you are a religious
person, how you were raised, and where your morals and ethics stand. You cannot truly believe one
way without taking into account the other side and have valid proof to back it up.
Those who believe that homosexuality is wrong do so by quoting certain phrases from the Bible.
For example:
Romans 1:24 27; Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to
dishonor their bodies among themselves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God never created man to be with another man. God created a woman, Eve, out of Adam. God s
will is for every man to have a woman. God has created man out of his own image, and his image
is not a homosexual man. According to the Bible, you are this image until you sin, and
homosexuality is considered a sin, and therefore homosexuality is wrong because God did not
create man for man, but for woman and the purpose of procreation. Any other type of relation is
wrong in the eye of God.
On the other hand, the Bible also states:
I John 4:7 11, Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is
born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God, for God is love. The bible
tells us that a man cannot serve two masters, for either he will love the one and hate the other. If
this is true, you cannot follow God and hate another. If so, you to are a sinner.
According to the Bible, God totally hates the sin of homosexuality, but God does not hate you.
He only hates your sin. Is it correct then to say that you can agree with God and disagree with the
homosexual lifestyle but still love all of God s children, even those who are gay? If this was true
and everyone followed this, we would have no problems with anti homosexual groups and gay
bashers . If you are a person who follows the teachings of God, then you cannot hate homosexuals.
If you do, then you are, in your own interpretations of the bible, also a

Increase in current liabilities Substantial increase in current liabilities weakened the company s
liquidity position. Its current liabilities were US$2,063.94 million at the end of FY2010, a
48.09% increase compared to the previous year. However, its current assets recorded a marginal
increase of 25.07% from US$1,770.02 million at the end of FY2009 to US$2,213.72 million at
the end of FY2010. Following this, the company s current ratio declined from 1.27 at the end of

Analysis Of Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee
How to train your human In 1889 Mark Twain s publishes A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s
Court, which is consider the first science fiction novel. Like most science fiction stories, there is
time travel and futuristic technology messing with the past. Hank Morgan is sent into the past after
getting knocked unconscious by a man named Hercules with a crowbar. After realizing that he is in
the past, he uses his knowledge of an impending solar eclipse to trick the masses into making him
the second most powerful man in society. Being an educated 19th century American gentleman,
Hank believes it is up to him to make Arthurian England more like 19th century American. He tries
to change the beliefs of the people and introduces 19th century technology. In the end, Hank fails in
his quest to completely change everything about Arthurian England. Mark Twains usage of humor
combined with Hank s attempts to change Arthurian technology, religious beliefs and social
structure, exemplifies that human s beliefs are trained into them, which ultimately demonstrates
that society can not change without the training of a new generation.
Humor is used in order to conceal the weakness in superstitious beliefs. Like many satires, A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court does not blatantly announce its theme. Twain uses
humor [to] disarm the reader, but if the reader is careful they can see the darker sides of the humor

What Was The Cause Of The Great Depression In Chinatown In...
Everything started going well until the 1930 s hit, that s when they started to suffer an
extremely low rate because of when the Great Depression. 200 or even more businesses were
closed down in Chinatown. When the war ended they started to reopen their businesses which
made the population increase. This had a downside because due to the living conditions the
lived in an extremely small apartment. This was a problem because newly immigrated Chinese
had to find a home or with people around the city. Some of the apartments had 12 people in a
home and only had two beds to sleep in. Around the 1950s and early 1960s, Chinatown was
destroyed to provide space for a new project which was Nathan Phillips Square also for the new

The Photographer I Chose William Henry Jackson
The photographer I chose is William Henry Jackson. This photographer stood out to me because
his photography was outstanding especially of the great outdoors. After going through the pain
staking process of choosing a photographer he really stood out the most because of his photos of
the outdoors. Even though he is an amazing artist he did marvelous work in the American West.
He was more than just a photographer he also did some work as a painter in his early and later
parts of his career. William Henry Jacksonwas also a publisher like most artists are. But, he was
always a lover of art. Early in his career at the age of 19 in 1862 he joined as a private in
Company K of the 12th Vermont Infantry of the Union Army. He served during the American
Civil War for about nine months and during his time he fought in a major battle, which was the
Battle of Gettysburg. He spent most of his time sketching during his time in the army. He was
assigned to guarding a supply train. In 1863 his regiment was dismissed. William Henry Jackson
was well known for his photographyof the American West. The reason he did photography about
the American West was because in 1866 his brother and William took a Union Pacific Railroad
train to the last stop which was near Nebraska. He then got a job as a bullwhacker on a wagon
train. This company traveled along the Oregon Trail. In Omaha he open up a photography business
with his brother in 1867. He did many long excursions in the Omaha region to

The Great Italian Food Company Strategy
The Great Italian Food Company (GIFC) is a family owned business. For the restaurant business to
survive, it must give attention in providing high quality products and service, perform corporate
social responsibility and integrity. The GIFC managers have understood that for the restaurant
business to succeed, in the long run, must focus on integrity in relationships with customers,
employees and business partners. The GIFC is an authentic Italian restaurant, so opening up other

Growth is very important for a business. Without growth the business will stagnate and ultimately
will be taken over by other factors like inflation, competition, etc. . For the growth of GIFC, it is
important for them to develop a mission and vision statement. The mission statement expresses the
organization s purpose while the vision statement describes the organization s long term direction
and strategic intent. (Kinicki amp; Williams, Mission and Vision statement)There should also be
goals that should be agreed upon by everyone in the organization. For the owners to decide more

Their first goal should be to create a reputation of quality and consistency, so the name Papa Joe s

Assignment 3 Feedback Assignment
Hello,
To begin with, I received my Assignment 3 feedback yesterday and I am very happy with the
feedback/grade I received. The grade itself was higher than that of the previous assignment
which made me feel good as it shows I am slowly improving in certain aspects of my writing. I
still need to work on my comma usage, review subject verb agreement and review topic sentences
for a summary paragraph. Next, I would like to talk about sentence variety, which I mentioned in
my last post. This time, I used a variety of sentences in my writing and it really made a difference
in the tone and flow of the paragraph, so I believe I ve grasped how to use sentence variety
effectively. I would also like to talk about MLA formatting, which I also mentioned

How Is Hawaiian Culture Intertwined
Cultures Intertwined Two cultures intertwined in Hawai i, but which lifestyle will help succeed
in the modern day Hawai i? Hawaiian lifestyle has been with the Islands since the day the

hawaiian culture consists of many life lessons that helped the natives thrive (pg 24). Wealth wasn

Buddhist Ethnography Essay
The Buddhist Experience Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the
actions of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set
foot in a Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my
stereotypical thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average
Joe, American man. Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to
sum up the Buddhist religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people. First,
Buddhism. Buddhism is a religion based off of the idea that there is a path that one can take to
achieve enlightenment, instead of believing in a god or multiple gods. Buddhism began with... Show

everyone should live if they want to achieve enlightenment along the Buddhist path. This is not
the only thing that Siddhartha taught though. Like every single religion since the beginning of
time, there is a list of rules. Christianity has the 10 Commandments, Islam has the Five Pillars of
Islam, and Buddhism has the Religious Reformations of Buddha. Unlike most religions,
Buddhism strays from the focus on an all mighty deity or deities. Buddhism preaches five
different logics that deviate from the norm when it comes to religious ideals: first, Strive after
enlightenment with due diligence. This means you must put a lot of effort into the job of

True Grit Fan Fiction
My mother, Mattie, told me stories about her great adventures down through Arkansas trying to

Tom Chaney. He shot my grandfather because he was drunk and got mad. Chaney got really
frustrated at my grandfather because he wanted to go back into the bar and earn his money
back. My grandfather tried to be calm, but Chaney was aggressive and raised the gun and fired.
After Chaney shot Frank he grabbed his golden pieces from his suspenders. This began my mom s
search for the man that had stolen my grandfather s life and missing gold pieces. My mother set
off with Yarnell, our families slave. They took a train to Fort Smith, 70 miles from the Ross family

The Importance Of Cultural Values
Perception is the process of selecting cues from the environment, organizing these cues into some
coherent pattern, and interpreting the pattern. It s related to intercultural communication because
perception is the process whereby people convert external events and experiences into meaningful
internal understanding. Values are shared ideas about what is right/true and beautiful. They help us
understand cultureby guiding behavior in society and shaping the social norms in a given culture.
2.Discuss four American values. How do we know they are values give examples?
Four American values (from the Kohl s model) are change, time its control, future orientation, and
materialism/acquisitiveness. Change is always occurring in America, such as healthcare and
technology. Time has a huge control over Americans. We are all (mostly) time oriented, with
busy day to day lives. Americans tend be future oriented always making goals and planning their
future. Materialism is seen in many Americans, as well as those who are as I like to call money
hungry. The search for more things, and money are how many live. We know they are values
because they are shared ideas that are perceived as being right or true.

dispute that the Cavalier poems To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell was more persuasive
than the poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick. The authors were

What Type of External Oak Door Should You Buy?
When many of us think of using oak in the home we think of old, dated and dilapidated furniture

years with good reason. It s sturdy, malleable, aesthetically pleasing and surprisingly comfortable

Hag s Marriage
Marriage in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale
The disparity in the outcomes of the hag s marriage and Alison s marriages in Geoffrey Chaucer s
The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale depends in part on the women s differing expectations of
their husbands. The hag s modus agendi depends on a knight s obligation to honour his pledge,
whereas Alison s modus operandi depends on her husbands conduct after marriage, i.e. on her
circumstances. Having saved the knight s life, the hag asks the knight to permit her to be his wife.
Moreover, she wants to be his love. The knight must marry, since marrying the hag lies within his
might. Since the hag s definition of being his wife includes her loving him, he is duty bound to ...

Like husbands in real life, Alison s husbands are not knights. They do not submit to her will out of
love for her beauty as she expects. Physically, she beats her fifth husband into submission, crucifies
her philandering fourth on the cross of jealousy, and outwits her three horny, old husbands through
flattery and deceit, attacking their fidelity to extort payment for the marriage debt. Alison s
marriages are battles, a state of war that continues until she wins the right to rule, after which she
controls the marital assets and the stipulation of the marriage debt. She sexually abuses her old
husbands, hints she wants her fourth dead, and curtails her young fifth s reading. Vae victis woe to
the conquered. Aggressively, Alison pitches them into their purgatory, realizing the right to rule in
her own hell.
Alison defies one s expectations. Described by the narrator as a church going woman nonpareil, she
presents herself unflatteringly in her prologue. Blinding herself to her immorality with her verbose
diatribe, she interprets the scriptures, classical literature, and mythology to suit her immediate
needs. By interpreting Alison s tale as wish fulfillment, however, one can grasp for a handle to her
motives, hopes, and agenda. The hag exploits the knight as a means to an end, to be young and
beautiful. As she gets older, Alison s fading features will not sustain her narcissism. To love herself,
she must be beautiful, even if only in the eyes of her next husband.

Although much of his ideas were often misunderstood throughout his life, Keynes offered bright
new insights into the nature and origin of financial theories. In his most well known writings, The
General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money, which was published in 1936, Keynes
worked to break down the prior ideas of traditional economics and point out its inadequacies, which
became obvious during the downturn of the economy. He felt a new approach was needed, and

Social Status Essay
I think that my three most important ascribed social statuses are that I am an American, I am
eighteen years old, and I am a white male. Ascribed social statuses are the social status that a
person is assigned at birth or given later in life. First and foremost, being an American is
something that many people take for granted. We have the chance to obtain a great life that not
everyone has the chance at. It has opened so many doors for me including an education, security,
opportunity, and so many more. Growing up an American has taught me many lessons. I have
learned that while not everything is easy, I could have it much worse off, and I should be
grateful for the opportunities that present themselves. I have also learned not to take anything
for granted. I am very blessed with the life I have, but nothing is guaranteed. You have to enjoy
the good things in life, and embrace the hard ones. One more lesson is that life is full of choices,
and the life that you end up with is more or less a result of those choices. I m not saying that it is
a completely fair playing field, but I do believe that everyone generally has the opportunity at a
successful life. The next important ascribed social statusis my age. Obviously this is ever changing
as time ticks on, but it has a major influence on how I live my life. Because I am eighteen years old
I am still in school, and I will continue to be in some sort of school for quite some time. I do not

The poem is a sonnet with three quatrains and a couplet divided into two stanzas that closely
resembles the Petrarchan sonnet form. The speaker emphasizes the traditional aspect of the love
through the conventional form of the sonnet. From the division between the stanzas in a Petrarchan
sonnet, the speaker introduces a shift from the speaker s observation on traditional love because the
second stanza in a Petrarchan sonnet presents a counterargument. With the shift, the speaker
suggests a separation between the traditional and modern love; therefore, the Petrarchan sonnet
emphasizes the differences between the past and the present. When the speaker replies that

there is more obscured imagery, the speaker suggests that the truth is hidden in secret and that there

the Steelers difference was mean. (McGinn 346) The Steelers won the game 27 23. Thing got

Comparing Rushdie s Haroun And The Sea Of Stories
Shaping a Novel Through Comparisons : Language, Image, and Personality in Salman Rushdie s
Haroun and the Sea of Stories
Salman Rushdie is a world famous author born in India in 1947. He began writing at a young age
and later pursued this as a career. Rushdie wrote an extremely controversial book called The
Satanic Versesand was persecuted, hunted, and, ultimately, thrown out of his country. During his
time of hiding, Rushdie wrote Haroun and the Sea of Stories (Wikipedia). This novel has censorship
woven through it just as Rushdie experienced himself. However, he incorporates special characters
to relate to others in the outside world while they relate to each other, in a positive and negative
manner, in the story. In fact, in Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Salman Rushdie reveals that each
character relates to another character through their language, image, and personality.
Haroun and the Sea of Stories reveals that each character relates to another through language. The
first two characters that can relate are Rashid Khalifa and Mudra, the shadow warrior. Rashid and
Mudra are alike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often, the reader sees how Mr. Sengupta and Cultmaster Khattam Shud are very similar. These
characters relate to each other because they are both cynical and weaselly; ultimately, these
characters are destroyed. Even the youngest character in the story is able to come to this
realization as he calls out Khattam Shud saying, I know you...you re him. You re Mr.
Sengupta...and you re a sniveling, drivelling, mingy, stingy, measly, weaselly clerk (Rushdie 155).
The imagery placed in the reader s mind when Mr. Sengupta and Khattam Shud come into play is
extremely negative. The audience is almost able to imagine what he or she believes each of these
characters would look like: evil yet insignificant. In this way, Salman Rushdie has achieved the
goal any writer hopes to: to provide a visual image through descriptive

(An analysis of the Israeli Palestinian Conflict)
When the Israeli Palestinian conflict is mentioned, many people cringe. This topic is the center of
controversy and the main topic of discussion at peace meetings. Although several meetings have
taken place over time to resolve this conflict, fighting continues to rage on. This dispute between
the Israelis and Palestinians threatens the entire world. Now with access to nuclear warheads and
chemical weapons, this quarrel could easily get out of hand and affect the entire world. Although
most people have heard about the Israeli Palestinian conflict, they do not truly know the history and
actual events of this age old war.
HISTORY
The city of Jerusalem is sought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The very first peace talk was in 1967, a mere 19 years after Israel was globally recognized as a
country. These peace talks have always involved multiple countries. The United Stateshas always
been involved as well as the presence of the United Nations. The Israeli Palestinian conflict is
currently a global issue that worries many countries around the world. The United Nations held
the first peace talk in 1967 and named the talk UN 242. This talk outlined an exchange of land
for peace (XXX). This talk established some guidelines that future peace talks would bring up.
The next meeting was at Camp David in 1978. This conference expanded on UN 242 and a
peace treaty between Israel and Egypt was signed. Egypt was the first Middle East country to
recognize Israel as an independent country (XXX). There was no more peace talks until 1991
when tenses became strained between the Israelis and Palestinians again. This talk that was
held in 1991 took place in Madrid, Spain. Several Arab nations were invited to this conference to
encourage more peace treaties with Israel. Shortly after the Madrid Conference another meeting
was held in 1993 that was dubbed the Oslo Agreement. During the Oslo Agreement, the PLO and
Israel agreed to recognize each other as individual states and Israel said they would pull out of
West Bank and Gaza. However, there was much opposition to this plan, so it was only partly put
into practice. This agreement can be considered the most productive meeting between the two
warring countries. There was another meeting at Camp David that took place in 2000. This
meeting went over policies that were covered at the Oslo agreement and attempts were made to
speed up the process of peace. The United States encouraged Israel and the PLO to negotiate
where the borders would be put in place. Again, Israel and the Palestinians failed to agree on these
plans and the meeting had no positive

  • 2. Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Fannie Flag... Racism deeply affects how people are treated. Because of the color of someone s skin, people are often looked at treated and differently. In the novel Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop CafГ©, Fannie Flag illustrates the Racism as a theme in many different ways. The stories start off with the introduction of two women, Ninny and Evelyn who meet in a nursing home, and Ninny tells the tales of her days back in the whistle stop cafГ©, around the 1920 s. Throughout the story the appearance and mention of the Ku Klux Klan appears at various times, and black men are given food out the back door, while the white men are fed inside at the tables; how black peoplewere viewed at the time was transparent; they were thought of as lower people, and they were treated like dirt. People treat others differently based on the color of their skin. The author showcases this throughout the novel, through the lives of Artis and Jasper, twin siblings who have extensively different complexions than one another, The oldest son, whom she named Jasper, was the color of a creamy cup of coffee, and the other one, named Artis, was black as coal (97). Coffee is typically thought of as something warm and pleasant, while coal is dark and grimy. This may be considered a metaphor for their lives, as Jasper s was always warm and welcoming, and Artis pathway was dark, he saw horrible things in his time even though he was well behaved. People treated Jasper with much more respect than his brother, Artis, and the sole reason was obvious. The Chinese believe that, when conducting business with other people, a relationship must first be formed to gain the trust of business partners. American companies rely heavily on systems and processes, which is viewed as highly efficient by the American standard while the Chinese workers with ECL aren t accustomed to this and believe that it s not always necessary to establish a system to follow in order to complete a task. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem, however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed. Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. According Mol and others (2010), since the beginning of contemporary environmentalism around the 1960 sand 1970s (and with the Report to the Club of Rome, the Blueprint for Survival and the inception of several new environmental NGO), we can deduce three landmark events that have catalysed innovation in and reform of environmental policies, practices and awareness. Attracting global environmental attention, these three events are crucial to understanding the genesis and development of the ideas of ecological modernization and how these ideas have influenced change in environmental policies and regulation in both the global North and global south since the 1980s. The first event is the publication of the Brundtland Report in 1987, which is commonly known as Our Common Future. Through this Report, the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) made a decisive statement in support of sustainable development (WCSD 1987). The Brundtland Report is considered to be central to ecological modernization such that Mol and others (2010) argue that ecological modernization theory can be understood as the social scientific elaboration and formalisation of the undergirding philosophy pertaining to environmental reform enunciated in Our Common Future. A person is capable of learning to inhibit or modify the innate emotional expressions. In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions can be modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional expressions can be inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves baring one s teeth to prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their teeth and compress their lips instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of emotion depending on the context. This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or respect. • 13. The Membrane Of The Cell Membrane 1.0 Introduction 1.1 The Cell Membrane Biological cells have a membrane that separates the contents of the cell from its exterior environment and serves a number of functions. The membrane is partially permeable, facilitating and controlling what materials pass into and out of the cell. The membrane can produce different compartments within the cell in addition to allowing electrical signals to pass along them, playing a role in cell signalling and creating attachment sites for enzymes and molecules involved in the metabolism (Keeton, 1983, p. 71). 1.2 The Phospholipid Bilayer The membrane of the cell is composed of a Phospholipid Bilayer with various protein molecules floating within it phospholipids are fats and are constructed of two fatty acid tails that are hydrophobic and a Phosphate head that is hydrophilic. The heads orientate themselves towards the water molecules outside of the cell with the hydrophobic tails pointing away from the water molecules. A second tier of phospholipids forms a mirror image with the heads pointing towards the water molecules inside the cell itself. These two tiers of Phospholipids form the Phospholipid Bilayer (Keeton, 1983, p. 71). Figure 1 Phospholipid Bilayer 1.3 The Fluid Mosaic Model The Fluid Mosaic Model (Keeton, 1983, p. 71) shows that within the Phospholipid Bilayer are a number of proteins that float freely and form a mosaic pattern. Analysis Of Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee How to train your human In 1889 Mark Twain s publishes A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, which is consider the first science fiction novel. Like most science fiction stories, there is time travel and futuristic technology messing with the past. Hank Morgan is sent into the past after getting knocked unconscious by a man named Hercules with a crowbar. After realizing that he is in the past, he uses his knowledge of an impending solar eclipse to trick the masses into making him the second most powerful man in society. Being an educated 19th century American gentleman, Hank believes it is up to him to make Arthurian England more like 19th century American. He tries to change the beliefs of the people and introduces 19th century technology. In the end, Hank fails in his quest to completely change everything about Arthurian England. Mark Twains usage of humor combined with Hank s attempts to change Arthurian technology, religious beliefs and social structure, exemplifies that human s beliefs are trained into them, which ultimately demonstrates that society can not change without the training of a new generation. Humor is used in order to conceal the weakness in superstitious beliefs. Like many satires, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court does not blatantly announce its theme.
