This document summarizes the different types of blood cells:
- Granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils) have granules and multilobed nuclei. They help fight infection and parasites through phagocytosis and release of toxic chemicals.
- Agranulocytes (monocytes, lymphocytes) lack granules. Monocytes develop into macrophages which are actively phagocytic. Lymphocytes (T and B cells) recognize and respond to antigens.
- Platelets are disc-shaped cell fragments involved in blood clotting and haemostasis.
