Pros And Cons Of Eating Locally Essay
Having fresh fruits and vegetables locally would be nice, to have refreshing, raw, unprocessed food
instead of food that s been sitting in the store for weeks. That s what locavores are all about. But
unfortunately, thats not reality. And the chances of everyone going out of there way to find these
locally grown foods, is utterly ridiculous.
Locavores spread the word about becoming a locavore so eating locally grown food, getting more
nutritional value and all these things. However, they don t foucs on the negative side this, including
transportation, inventory a farmers market will have, and the fact that eating a carrot grown thirty
miles away is the same as a carrot grown one thousand miles away.
Fruits and vegetables still have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people may believe because a company grows locally, they ll have more inventory. However
that s not the case because the problem here invloves the way food miles are calculated. ( source C)
For instance, if a truck if shipping it s a couple thousand vegetables a couple thousand miles away, it
would be the same as a local company sending a hundred vegetables a hundred miles away. Therefore
decreasing the profit they could have made if they weren t selling just locally.
Three hundred and eighteen million people spread all across the nation, it s nearly impossible to have
locally grown food near all these people. Not everyone has the advantage of being close to a locally
grown farmers market, so what do those people do? Drive hundreds of miles to the farmers market
when there s Wal mart only ten miles away? Of course not, because although it may be fresher, That
doesn t mean it s necessary (source B) People can get their food much cheaper nearby and not spend
nearly as much gas.
Locavores have a fine idea going here, I don t oppse that. However, the idea of everyone becoming a
locavore isn t very reasonable so most people wouldn t want to make the

Scapegoats In The Scarlet Letter And The Awakening
Scapegoats in The Scarlet Letter and The Awakening
The act of blaming others for problems is a common phenomena that occurs not only in our society,
but also in literature. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, Pearl Prynne represents the
scapegoat. Throughout the novel, the townspeople put the blame of Hester Prynne s sin on Pearl and
Hester grows as a person. Pearl gives Hester a daily reminder of her sin and Hester grows to becomes
a happier, better person in response. In addition, another example of a scapegoat is Leonce Pontellier
and the children, from Kate Chopin s The Awakening. Edna Pontellier blames her husband and
children for holding her back from reaching happiness and independence. All things considered, the ...

Overall, the archetype of a scapegoat, in literature or history, exemplifies an important role. The
scapegoat is a character that has an important tie to the problem the protagonist. In other words, the
scapegoat isn t a random person, and one of the biggest scapegoats in literature was Tom Robinson.
Although Tom wasn t blood related to the Finch s, Atticus was representing Tom in trial, which is the
relation to the protagonist in this novel. As shown above, a scapegoat is a valuable person in literature,
as well as real life. They provide a connection to the protagonist that is not like any other character.
All in all, the archetype of a scapegoat is imperative in literature and the world, and continues to
impact our society everyday.
The archetype of a scapegoat is represented by Pearl Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet
Letter. In the novel, the townspeople view Pearl as a personification of Hester Prynne s sin, and they
do not treat her fairly because they only see her as the result of a horrible crime. And although Hester
doesn t see Pearl in this light for the most part, there is a time in which her view on her daughter
changes. The village blames Pearl because they need to find someone to blame it on, which illustrates
the role of a scapegoat in a novel. A scapegoat is an innocent character in which a problem is blamed
on. In this case, the puritans put responsibility on Pearl because they can not blame Hester anymore.

Internet Copyright Laws Essay
Internet Copyright Laws
A student comes home to his dorm at the University of Scranton after a rough day of classes. With the
quick internet connection provided on the school s network, the student makes a few clicks and logs
into Morpheus, a program that enables music fans to download free music. Within a few minutes he is
on his way to owning an unlimited amount of songs at no cost. Everything this student is doing is
legal, right? Wrong. The downloaded music from the internet is copyrighted material.

An excerpt from Ann Okerson s article, Who Owns Digital Works (published in the magazine,
Scientific American ), clearly explains what types of property are protected under the United States
copyright law:
The most recent revision of the U.S. copyright law, made in 1978, is far more thorough than its
predecessors. It protects creative works in general, including literature, music, drama, pantomime,
choreography, pictorial, graphical and sculptural works, motion pictures and other audiovisual
creations, sound recordings and architecture. (Patents and trademarks are governed by their own laws,
as are trade secrets.) Copyright explicitly grants the owners of the expression of an idea the right to
prevent anyone from making co copies of it, preparing derivative works, distributing the work,
performing it or displaying it without permission (Okerson paragraph 14).
The key is what type of works are protected by copyrights and the word
distribution. Many types of works that are protected by copyright can

Essay on Philip Larkin
Philip Larkin A Voice of Pain for This Century
On August 9, 1922, the poet Philip Larkin was born in the town of Coventry in England (Thwaite,
Letters xvii). After graduating St. John s College in Oxford in 1943 with a First Class degree, he
worked at both the University College of Leicester and Queen s College at Belfast before finally
settling down at the University of Hull as Librarian in 1955 (Thwaite, Letters xviii). That same year,
with the publication of his collection The Less Decieved, he began to be recognized (Thwaite,
Introduction xv). His popularity continued to grow thereafter, and over the next twenty years amongst
many awards and honorary doctorates he published two more highly acclaimed books of poetry, The

As his writing progressed, the revelation of his anguish became more and more explicit while his
emptiness, brought on by the struggle to understand life, continued to deepen.
Larkin began writing poetry at an early age, with heavy influence from Keats, Auden, and, ultimately,
Yeats (1974 (Thwaite, Introduction xviii xix). In 1946, at the age of twenty three, he began to carry his
own voice and write poems that would thereafter strike his characteristic note (Thwaite, Introduction
xv). The 1946 poem And the Wave Sings Because It Is Moving is an early example of the simple
diction and brooding contemplation that came to characterize all of Larkin s great works. The poem
parallels humanity with the together, apart, together movement of waves, personifying the mortal need
to wish ourselves together, / Yet sue for solitude upon our meetings (l. 3,6 7). The human heart itself is
a wave, carrying Laments, tears, wreaths and rocks in a deluge of anxiety and sorrow (l. 14). Silver
tongued like a share, the heart wave ploughs up failure, / Carries the night and day and fetches / Profit
from sleep (l. 17 19). In the face of death, however, The wave falters and drowns ; for while the heart
takes tithes and Finds marrow to feed and frame us, it cannot invoke death (l. 20 22, 30). As a result,
Our hearts must Grow quiet in [death s] shadow, because There is nothing to grasp and Nothing to

Comparing Asterism And Taurus Negotiation
a) An asterism is a constellation that is not regarded as an official constellation by the international
scientific community. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa
Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are
unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the
entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as
the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. An asterism is similar to a constellation because a
constellation is a group of stars that outline a recognizable pattern. However, differences between an
asterism and a constellation can also be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This star also known as Alpha Tauri (α Tauri), is the brightest star in the constellation, and is a red
giant. The name Aldebaran means the follower. This name is appropriate because Aldebaran appears
to be following the Pleiades across the sky. Aldebaran is also referred to as the eye of the bull, and
appears as though it is glaring menacingly at Orion. Another star in the Taurus constellation is Elnath.
This star is also known as Beta Tauri (β Tauri), and is one of the major stars in the Taurus
constellation. This star is the second brightest star in the Taurus constellation following Aldebaran.
The name Elnath means the butting and refers to the horns of the bull. g) One of the myths about the
Taurus constellation describes that Zeus assumed the form of a great white bull with magnificent
horns. He became a bull in order to impress a legendary Phoenician princess named, Europa.

that Taurus carried Europa out to the Mediterranean Sea to the Island of Crete. It was then said that
Taurus and Europa had a son that eventually became the legendary king of

Harmful Effects Of Machiavellian Advertising
As accessibility to and the advancement of the new media increases, our control over what we choose
to see to decreases exponentially. Although advertisements do not seem to manifest harmful effects,
many advertisers use Machiavellian tactics to sway the opinions of people. Such tactics include:
clickbait, which makes use of targeting the curiosity of viewers to simply click on a specific link or
video, and data mining, the tracking of recent searches to show advertisements specific to what the
robots claim to be one s interests. These techniques used are implemented to evoke the specific
interests of the consumer, making pure curiosity in control of what the reader is paying attention to.
Clickbait uses persuasive and absorbing headlines and images to allows readers to quickly browse
through the content on a website and choose what they want to see. However, much of this content
that uses clickbait is false information so advertisers can get the views and shares they desire. Wu
mentions the power of clickbait, the technique that started attentional capture online. This attention
grabbing idea started on accident with a dispute with Nike. While Nike was promoting their new
personalized Nike iD, a customer named Jonah Peretti received an email from the Nike headquarters
saying they were unable to process his order because it broke one of four rules when personalizing a

What Is The Mood Of Richard III s Speech
Shakespeare is well known for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s
lamenting beginning, and Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, and the speech in the very
beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; something Shakespeare wanted. It gives
the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen.
Like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the
action at the beginning, Shakespeare is ensuring that he has captured the audience s immediate interest
by showcasing a corrupted man s inner thoughts. Richard wants power, and he wants war and death
alike. That is what the speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily
noted the amount of rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that
they are in a current time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been
brought to the land since the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as
insulting death and war itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the
festivities of the day and has found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love
will not find him because he is deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very thought of
his deformity, and his soul has become equally as disfigured

The stranger is a movie based on crime and it is about a investigator Wilson from war crimes

Meinike. Wilson suggest other member of Allied War Commission to let Meinike escape so that they
could track down Franz Kindler, who was a high level architect of holocaust. Wilson managed to
follow Meinike to Harper, Connecticut but he got knocked unconscious by him. Meinike managed to
meet Franz Kindler who was disguising himself as Professor Charles Rankin, a respected instructor at
local college. When Meinike told Kindler about how he was set free from prison, Kindler murdered
and buried him in the woods. There are many visual elements used in this movie. The visual elements
that I analyzed while watching this movie are color intensity and camera angles. This movie used

Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory
This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary titled
Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories of aging as
it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and what one
piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have chosen to
compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The Disengagement
Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age, become less active
with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The Continuity Theory is based on
the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent with age or remain the same
throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt ... Show more content on

Both of these theories can influence a care givers role. If a person ages and becomes disengaged the
care giver may have a harder time caring for that person. Or if the care giver believes the
disengagement theory is how people are supposed to age. I feel like some people think that old people
are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats an older adult
as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The continuity theory on
the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want to remain active and
engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into many different types of
people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and outgoing is easier to care for. I am
an outgoing and active person and I would always try to get my home care clients engaged, even if it

The Impact of Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Macroeconomic...
THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC
PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the
Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised
world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset
or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign
exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is
therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In every country of the world, exchange rate level is the paramount target of economic policy
targeting. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term
equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments
equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started
operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that
the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered
consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign
currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange.
Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and
even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government
of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier
foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and
currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995.
The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms
to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. This has further led to difficulty in

Memi And Sabu Comparison
Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back
before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi and
Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use
hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people
from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities,
perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles of
design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these
civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them.

Memi and Sabu clearly have an intimate relationship and unlike Gudea, great detail has gone into
shaping the contours and details of their bodies. One can see the feminine slope of Sabu s torso
making her much more delicate and small in comparison to her partner. We can see the muscular detail
of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much lighter
compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall. There is
also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look almost as if they
could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels more cemented. He is
formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of weight and importance. His
texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Gudea s pose is much more thoughtful, his hands
clasped, his shoulders squared and together these elements echo the inscriptions of his great work as a

Audit Risk in the Brave New World

INTRODUCTION
The audit risk model has provided a conceptual framework for auditing practice for more than 40
years. Despite practical difficulties in implementation and criticisms of its theoretical foundation, the
model has been fairly effective in helping auditors analyze risks and use that analysis to determine the
nature, timing, and extent of audit procedures (especially substantive procedures) in audits of financial
statements. The audit risk model provides a conceptual framework for the risk assessment standards.
In recent years, auditors have tried to apply the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are: * ISA 315, Understanding the Entity and its Environment and Assessing the Risks of
Material Misstatements * ISA 330, The Auditor s Procedures in Response to Assessed Risks * ISA
500 (Revised), Audit Evidence.
The requirements in these newly issued risk standards represent significant changes to the standards
governing audits of financial statements. They enable the auditors to focus more clearly on areas
where there is a greater risk of misstatement of the financial statements. The belief is that these risk
standards will increase audit quality. This is as a result of better risk assessments through a more
detailed understanding of the entity and its environment, including internal control, and improved
design and performance of audit procedures to respond to assessed risks of material misstatements.
The improved linkage of audit procedures and assessed risks is expected to result in a greater
concentration of audit effort on areas where there is a greater risk of material misstatements.
The scope of each of the risk standards is reflected in the introduction to the standards, and can be
summarized as follows.
ISA 315
This standard provides guidance on performing audit procedures to obtain a broader understanding of
the entity and its environment, including its internal control, and on assessing risks of material
misstatement. The IAASB recognises that there may be specific considerations relevant to the audit of

Deborah Tannen s I Only Say This Because I Love You, And...
Introduction Interpersonal conflicts are inevitable. Different texts suggest not how to avoid conflict,
but rather how to effectively communicate when involved in one. However, the rules of constructive
communication can completely change in conflicts between people in long term, interdependent
relationships. This paper will focus on analyzing a conversation between a mother and her adult son,
while applying ideas from William Wilmot and Joyce Hocker s Interpersonal Conflict, Deborah

He does so in a way that is assertive rather than aggressive. Instead of aggressively pushing his
thoughts onto Dianne without explanation, Earl works towards achieving his desired goals by openly
expressing his frustration as a response to his mother s commands. In conjunction with his dominant
conflict style, he threatens, the more you tell me to, the more I won t, which qualifies as a threat,
because it meets the two required criteria. First, the source of the threat must control the outcome. Earl
controls the outcome of the situation since he has the ability to either obey or disobey Dianne.
Secondly, the threat must be seen as negative by the recipient. In this case, the recipient Dianne sees
the condition of Earl s comment as negative since she will not get her way (Wilmot and Hocker, 159).
Earl uses the threat in an attempt to put an end to his mother s current and future demands. However,
the use of a threat begs the question, what is gained? Although Earl solves his immediate issue of
changing the sheets at his own convenience, he risks leaving the bigger problem unresolved and
damaging the relationship with his mother (Wilmot and Hocker, 160). After this one instance, Dianne

Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer who believed the Sun was at the center of the universe

The current idea that people believed in at the time was the geocentric model. The geocentric

This idea was introduced by Ptolemy to explain how the planets moved. However, the geocentric

he could follow this requirement by using a heliocentric model of the universe where the distances of
the

His information, however, did not completely invalidate the geocentric model. The contributions
of other astronomers hundreds of years later eventually provided enough information to prove the

Psychological Abuse In Slavery By Harriet Jacobs
Psychological abuse is characterized by non physical acts to affect inner thoughts. As a slave, Harriet
Jacobs experienced a great amount of pain and suffering while her and her family members were
slaves of Dr. Flint. She narrated her experiences after realizing she was a slave at six years old. From
an analysis of Harriet Jacobs experience in slavery, she suffered more from psychological abuse
because she was treated like property, manipulated by Dr. Flint, and emotionally depressed.
One of the reasons why Harriet Jacobs suffers more from psychological abuse was because she was
treated as property. Upon the death of her generous mistress, Harriet Jacobs was later relocated into
her mistress niece s house. The mistress niece was only five years old which made Jacobs the property
of her father, Dr. Flint who made Harriet Jacobs life a living hell while being a slave in his house.
From the time that Jacobs and her brother William first walked into their new master s home, they
knew their lives were about to get worse: When we entered our new home we encountered cold looks,
cold words, and cold treatment, (Ch.2). From the start, Dr. Flint and his wife treated Jacobs as
property. As Jacobs said in chapter four, he occasionally tried to sell her for high prices but said she
wasn t his property to sell: She don t belong to me. She is my daughter s property, and I have no right
to sell her. Once Jacobs was 15 years old and Dr. Flint was 55, his sexual interest towards

Diction In A Tale Of Two Cities
The Use of Diction and Characterization in A Tale of Two Cities
In Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, it is explicitly mentioned several times that Charles Darnay
and Sydney Carton look particularly similar. The similarities in the appearances of Carton and Darnay
later play a substantial role in the conclusion of the novel. Despite their physical similarities, the two
are completely different individuals and are nothing alike. Chapter 4 of the novel juxtaposes the two
characters together and displays the differences in their personalities. In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles
Dickens exhibits the diversity of Carton and Darnay s personalities, by embedding imagery and
characterization into the context.

ungracious principles. Darnay also can be regarded as a modest man. After he is acquitted by Carton,
he elucidates that I hardly seem yet, returned Charles Darnay, to belong to this world again. (Dickens

life. He feels that he cannot rightfully exist without continually being reminded of his past actions.
The quote uses diction to display Darnay s feelings, and portrays him as a prudent man. In the chapter,
Darnay clearly wishes to avoid conflict with Sydney Carton, characterizing him as a kindhearted,
benevolent man. He says, Nevertheless, pursued Darnay, rising to ring the bell, there is nothing in that,
I hope, to prevent my calling the reckoning, and our parting without ill blood on either side. (Dickens
85). Essentially, Darnay elucidates that whether or not Carton tolerates him, he should still express his
gratitude for his assistance in the trial. Charles Darnay declares that the two should not be on poor
terms, although they mutually dislike each other. Darnay does not want to depart from dinner with the
agony of ill blood with Carton, and hopes his declaration will sway Carton to reconcile. His statement
displays how compassionate and amiable Charles Darnay is, and how he truly serves as a role model

Meetings Are Considered A Waste Of Time
For many, meetings are considered a waste of time. Lots of information is presented without achieving
the results intended. Leading a successful meeting takes effort and dedication. To ensure meetings lead
to actions, the leader must have a clear objective, involve key players, use time wisely, present an
action plan and follow up (Harary, 2015). One of the most ineffective meetings we had was called by
the Information Technology manager and the CTO. The reason for the meeting was that the IT
helpdesk was getting repeated calls for a similar issue happening all over our building. Once several
calls come in for the same issue, we know there must be a bigger problem affecting several computers.
This situation was brought up to the CTO by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We had a round table meeting and everyone had the chance to speak and ask questions accordingly to
try to get to the bottom of this. The helpdesk team was able to resolve issues temporarily, but the
network team refused to take any initiative on fixing the problem. The telecommunications department
was the first one to take initiative and work directly with the helpdesk, to personally go see the clients
while the issue was happening. That way he was able to rule out any issues with the network lines or
IP phone system.
After the first meeting not much was accomplished. We already knew that the phone systems were not
the problem. It was obviously a network and security issue. A second meeting had to be done to
present all findings during our research. The helpdesk and telecommunications had to bring all details
to prove the issue was not phone related and try to get help from networking and security. Our CTO
finally jumped in and requested the security and network team to get involved with the helpdesk team
to find out the real solution and every time a user called with this issue, we had to directly report to all
members of the meeting all the details of the calls and findings.
After the CTO getting involved and pushing for a solution, we started to see results. Our network team
had worked with the security team and implementing a new authentication factor for our internal

John Coffey Quotes
Literary Quotations from The Green Mile
Q1: The wide corridor up the center of E Block was floored with linoleum the color of tired old limes,
and so what was called the Last Mile at other prisons was called the Green Mile at Cold Mountain
(King 6).
This quote shows its significance in defining the setting of The Green Mile. The setting of The Green
Mile is a prison called Cold Mountain but more specifically it is located on death row. Furthermore,
the time frame that the novel takes place is The Great Depression. This is perfect for the theme of
confinement and solitude in The Green Mile because the prison keeps the inmates confined inside the
jail. This relates to the Shakespeare play Hamlet because Hamlet feels trapped in Denmark and he ...

In The Green Mile the central theme is the supernatural because it is expressed through the main
character John Coffey. The first instance of the supernatural is when John Coffey heals Paul
Edgecombe s urinary infection. Hence, John Coffey has supernatural powers to in his ways of healing
the sick and dying. These supernatural powers are the driving factor in the plot of the story as well. It
helps drive the idea that John Coffey is innocent and he was falsely accused for the crimes. Lastly, the
theme of the supernatural furthers the plot of the novel because the supernatural helps the
understanding of John s innocence. Which is essential to the plot because the entire story revolves
around the divinity of John Coffey. This relates to Hamlet because King Hamlet was killed in the
beginning of the story and was resurrected as a ghost. Also, King Hamlet advances the plot by
convincing Hamlet to kill Claudius. Hence, King Hamlet is a perfect example of the supernatural and
how it is used to further the plot because of his ghostly presence and his will for revenge. Therefore,
the structure of the plot is perfect in conveying the theme of the supernatural in The Green

Increase in Driving Age
Sixteen year olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age. Young drivers just aren t
mature enough to be on the roads, risking other drivers lives by their reckless deeds. By increasing the
driving age teens have more time to practice making them more prepared and more likely to be safer
drivers. Teens have a very short attention span, with technology; they are even more likely to get
distracted making it more dangerous for them and other drivers Auto insurance is more expensive for
teen drivers for a reason. Teens are more likely to speed and take advantage of being free making them
more reckless than ever (Ghaskata).

Speeding or going too fast for road conditions, is a major factor in teen crash deaths ( Speeding ).
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people from the ages 15 to 20 ( Teen Drivers
and Speeding ). Teens were involved in about fourteen thousand fatal crashes and more than four
thousand two hundred of them had to do with speeding. An AAA survey says speeding is one of the
top three mistakes teens make ( Speeding One of Top Deadly Mistakes Made by Teen Drivers ). It s
not the lack of education per say but rather the mindset of the driver. Teens have the mindset that
speeding and racing is cool and the consequences that can inevitably follow these rash decisions are
not important enough for them to not do it. Teens are constantly being peer pressured by their friends
and surroundings. Statistics show that over fifty percent of teens experience with alcohol because of
peer pressure and forty percent have tried a drug ( Peer Pressure: The Effect on Teenagers ). If
teenagers are willing to experience with drugs and alcohol because they feel pressures, what would
prevent them from speeding ten miles above the speed limit for example. It seems harmless to drive
fifty mph in a forty mph road, but there are limits for different areas for a reason, from traffic
condition to road conditions making it harder for those teens that are speeding to control the car in

Wang Lung In The Good Earth
In The Good Earth, being rich separates you from the land and can lead to trouble. Wang Lung faces
this issue since as his wealth escalates, he becomes more corrupted and moves away from his original
self. In this way, his life is a prime example of how traditional values deteriorate under the influence
of fortune.
The most peace and joy filled period in the Wang family existence comes when they are just wealthy
enough to have everything they need. But this interval does not last long. In the early part of the story,
when Wang Lung is penniless, he is content. His needs are all met by the earth that he lives close to.
He is humble, honest, and loves to work his land. The first years of his life with O lan are simple and
primarily untroubled. They have no wants or needs as long as the land produces. But this changes
when famine comes to the land. This is when Wang Lung begins to lose his morals from his newly
acquired wealth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

He soon becomes idle and starts to indulge in damaging vices that he would not have when he was a
simple farmer. He spends money excessively on the prostitute Lotus and becomes extremely vain
about his appearance. His attitude toward everything else takes a fall as well but sadly his ego rises.
Since people now view him as a rich and important man, he forgets where his roots are. He now
despises the common people and thinks he is above them. Also he allows himself to be persuaded by
his son into buying the old Great House, rather than being content living on his land. The thought of
living in the former Great House appeals to him because when he was a young man the old House
symbolized wealth and luxury, and he cannot resist such wealth now that he is a man of substance. But
living in wealth does not make him happy and he eventually realizes

Empty Nest Syndrome Theme
ESSAY: EMPTY NEST SYNDROME
It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will
make them successful human beings.
Ann Lander.
Empty nest syndrome is a psychological condition faced by most of the parents after a certain point of
time in their lives when their children leave them for their higher education, marriage. This condition
is most common in mothers since they are the ones who have spent almost eighteen to nineteen years
of their life with their children growing them from toddlers to teen.
Hasan Manzar s The Cactus is a very well written story throws the light upon the universal experience
which the whole world is facing from the past thousands of decades. The story brings out the life of an
old couple. A family of three daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren, couple living in huge well
nestled house and the irony is that in this mammoth house there was no one living except the old
sensitive couple. Sensitive here refers to the scene where they have created a hole in the eave allowing

Point Of View In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
The different uses of point of view in a short story can influence how the reader interprets the text. For
example, the short story Cathedral incorporates the use of first person. First person point of view is
when a narrator conveys an experience from their own perspective. By choosing to use first person
narrative, the author allows the reader to gain a concise understanding of how the narrator is thinking
and feeling. First person narrative is often used because it allows the reader to better understand the
context of the text and the story becomes more intimate for the reader. On the other hand, the short
story, The Lady with the Dog integrates the use of third person limited narrative. Third person limited
narrative is used when authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the story, we learn that Gurov has many affairs because of his troubled marriage.
As the plot develops, Gurov meets a young and naive woman named Anna while vacationing in Yalta.
Anna and Gurov have an affair together, which leads to Gurov becoming emotionally invested with
her. The story is told through Gurov and his emotional instability is especially accentuated. But more
than a month passed, real winter had come, and everything was still clear in his memory as though he
had parted with Anna Sergeyeva only the day before. And his memories glowed more and more
vividly (Chekhov 272). Once Gurov and Anna part, he finds it difficult to move on from her. The third
person narrative allows the audience to see the turmoil in this affair through the perspective of Gurov.
Although Anna plays an important role in the development of this story, we do not fully understand
her perspective of the affair. The audience is however, able to interpret that Anna is feeling guilty from
her affair. Overall, despite the fact that we can understand Gurov s emotional attachment to Anna, it is
difficult for the reader to understand how Anna is thinking and feeling. By using third person
narrative, the narrator provides the audience with a look into the

Earning Differences by Gender
Despite women outnumbering men in U.S. colleges and the implementation of legislation like the
1963 Equal Pay Act the pay differences persist. According to some the pay gap persists because:
Men are more likely to pursue college majors and advanced degrees in fields that lead to higher
paying careers.
Women are getting graduate degrees, but not necessarily in fields that give the best salaries.
Discrimination remains a factor and it is difficult to document and measure.
Women on average are working fewer hours than men, often to care for children or other family
members.
The wage gap narrowed steadily through the 1980s and 1990s but the convergence slowed in the early
2000s. In 1980, women earned 60.2 cents for every $1 men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The case given in the article is a prime explain of wage discrimination faced by females in the
workplace. Based on the details given in the article the female worker was suffered wage
discrimination. When compared to her male friend she was equally qualified but she was paid less
despite that fact. The employer got away with discriminating against the female worker mainly
because workers at her work place was forbidden. When she found out it had been four years. The
Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act enacted in 2009 allows victims like her to file a pay discrimination
complaint against the employer within 180 days of their last pay check instead of the previously law
which required victims to file the discrimination pay compliant within 180 days of receiving their first
unfair paycheck.
Opinion
According to the United States Census Bureau, the changes in the real median earnings of men and
women who worked full time, year round between 2011 and 2012 were not statistically significant and
the female to male earnings ratio has not experienced a statistically significant annual increase since
2007. So this clearly indicates that legislation enacted by lawmakers so far have failed to eliminate the
wage gap problem that currently exists between males and females.

Importance Of Leisure And Leisure
Introduction to Sociology: Assessment 3
How does thinking sociologically help us to understand the role and significance of sport or leisure in
contemporary Australia?
Leisure and sport play a significant role in contemporary Australia. Leisure can be defined as activities
we choose purely out of enjoyment and have no obligations to do and Sport can be defined as a
competitive activity. Leisure must be recognised as the opposite of work.
Sport and Leisure hasn t always had a major part of our everyday lives, as time has evolved so has
societies attitudes, the importance of sport and leisure has become emphasised, especially since the
industrial revolution. Sport and Leisure plays an important role of social development, self
development and community development. Within modern society, perceptions on leisure time and
sports has changed and improved dramatically, for example; prior to the 19th century national parks
didn t exist and the land would ve been seen as inconvenient or a burden on society whereas nowadays
it s somewhere you can go on an adventure and use the land in ways the pre revolution society would
never have imagined.
In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) it states that all humans have the right and
should be entitled to rest, leisure and the reasonable limitation of working hours and access to the
cultural life of the community. Long before this was declared by the UDHR, in 1856 the 8 hour
working day was achieved in Australia,

A Woman s Role in Society
The Roles of Women in A Doll s House and Trifles A Doll s House and Trifles are very different plays,
such as the number of acts, the styles used throughout, and the way characters interact. These plays are
also very similar in that they dicuss and deal with the same type of situations and scenarios. Both
plays helped change society in the way that men view the roles of women in their lives. Nora and Mrs.
Wright both are in marriages that they must leave or get out of although they handled their situations
very differently the two women in the plays set a precedent and changed the roles of women in society

returns home from shopping and Torvald is disappointed in her excessive spending. Nora pouts and
acts as a child, and Torvald then address s her as the child she is acting to be. The relationship she has
with her husband Torvald directly mirrors the relationship with her father, we also see that their
relationship is based on dishonesty as Nora has to lie and hide the macaroons that Torvald has banned
her from eating. Nora Helmer reveals to a friend Mrs. Linde that she had taken out a loan, to pay for a

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Eating Locally Essay Having fresh fruits and vegetables locally would be nice, to have refreshing, raw, unprocessed food instead of food that s been sitting in the store for weeks. That s what locavores are all about. But unfortunately, thats not reality. And the chances of everyone going out of there way to find these locally grown foods, is utterly ridiculous. Locavores spread the word about becoming a locavore so eating locally grown food, getting more nutritional value and all these things. However, they don t foucs on the negative side this, including transportation, inventory a farmers market will have, and the fact that eating a carrot grown thirty miles away is the same as a carrot grown one thousand miles away. Fruits and vegetables still have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people may believe because a company grows locally, they ll have more inventory. However that s not the case because the problem here invloves the way food miles are calculated. ( source C) For instance, if a truck if shipping it s a couple thousand vegetables a couple thousand miles away, it would be the same as a local company sending a hundred vegetables a hundred miles away. Therefore decreasing the profit they could have made if they weren t selling just locally. Three hundred and eighteen million people spread all across the nation, it s nearly impossible to have locally grown food near all these people. Not everyone has the advantage of being close to a locally grown farmers market, so what do those people do? Drive hundreds of miles to the farmers market when there s Wal mart only ten miles away? Of course not, because although it may be fresher, That doesn t mean it s necessary (source B) People can get their food much cheaper nearby and not spend nearly as much gas. Locavores have a fine idea going here, I don t oppse that. However, the idea of everyone becoming a locavore isn t very reasonable so most people wouldn t want to make the ... Pearl gives Hester a daily reminder of her sin and Hester grows to becomes a happier, better person in response. Overall, the archetype of a scapegoat, in literature or history, exemplifies an important role. The scapegoat is a character that has an important tie to the problem the protagonist. In other words, the scapegoat isn t a random person, and one of the biggest scapegoats in literature was Tom Robinson. Although Tom wasn t blood related to the Finch s, Atticus was representing Tom in trial, which is the relation to the protagonist in this novel. As shown above, a scapegoat is a valuable person in literature, as well as real life. They provide a connection to the protagonist that is not like any other character. All in all, the archetype of a scapegoat is imperative in literature and the world, and continues to impact our society everyday. The archetype of a scapegoat is represented by Pearl Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter. In the novel, the townspeople view Pearl as a personification of Hester Prynne s sin, and they do not treat her fairly because they only see her as the result of a horrible crime. And although Hester doesn t see Pearl in this light for the most part, there is a time in which her view on her daughter changes. The village blames Pearl because they need to find someone to blame it on, which illustrates the role of a scapegoat in a novel. A scapegoat is an innocent character in which a problem is blamed on. In this case, the puritans put responsibility on Pearl because they can not blame Hester anymore. She is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An excerpt from Ann Okerson s article, Who Owns Digital Works (published in the magazine, Scientific American ), clearly explains what types of property are protected under the United States copyright law: The most recent revision of the U.S. copyright law, made in 1978, is far more thorough than its predecessors. It protects creative works in general, including literature, music, drama, pantomime, choreography, pictorial, graphical and sculptural works, motion pictures and other audiovisual creations, sound recordings and architecture. (Patents and trademarks are governed by their own laws, as are trade secrets.) Copyright explicitly grants the owners of the expression of an idea the right to prevent anyone from making co copies of it, preparing derivative works, distributing the work, performing it or displaying it without permission (Okerson paragraph 14). • 6. Essay on Philip Larkin Philip Larkin A Voice of Pain for This Century On August 9, 1922, the poet Philip Larkin was born in the town of Coventry in England (Thwaite, Letters xvii). After graduating St. John s College in Oxford in 1943 with a First Class degree, he worked at both the University College of Leicester and Queen s College at Belfast before finally settling down at the University of Hull as Librarian in 1955 (Thwaite, Letters xviii). That same year, with the publication of his collection The Less Decieved, he began to be recognized (Thwaite, Introduction xv). As his writing progressed, the revelation of his anguish became more and more explicit while his emptiness, brought on by the struggle to understand life, continued to deepen. Larkin began writing poetry at an early age, with heavy influence from Keats, Auden, and, ultimately, Yeats (1974 (Thwaite, Introduction xviii xix). In 1946, at the age of twenty three, he began to carry his own voice and write poems that would thereafter strike his characteristic note (Thwaite, Introduction xv). The 1946 poem And the Wave Sings Because It Is Moving is an early example of the simple diction and brooding contemplation that came to characterize all of Larkin s great works. The poem parallels humanity with the together, apart, together movement of waves, personifying the mortal need to wish ourselves together, / Yet sue for solitude upon our meetings (l. 3,6 7). The human heart itself is a wave, carrying Laments, tears, wreaths and rocks in a deluge of anxiety and sorrow (l. 14). Silver tongued like a share, the heart wave ploughs up failure, / Carries the night and day and fetches / Profit from sleep (l. 17 19). In the face of death, however, The wave falters and drowns ; for while the heart takes tithes and Finds marrow to feed and frame us, it cannot invoke death (l. 20 22, 30). As a result, Our hearts must Grow quiet in [death s] shadow, because There is nothing to grasp and Nothing to adapt the skill of the heart to, which is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing Asterism And Taurus Negotiation a) An asterism is a constellation that is not regarded as an official constellation by the international scientific community. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. An asterism is similar to a constellation because a constellation is a group of stars that outline a recognizable pattern. However, differences between an asterism and a constellation can also be ... This name is appropriate because Aldebaran appears to be following the Pleiades across the sky. Aldebaran is also referred to as the eye of the bull, and appears as though it is glaring menacingly at Orion. Another star in the Taurus constellation is Elnath. This star is also known as Beta Tauri (β Tauri), and is one of the major stars in the Taurus constellation. This star is the second brightest star in the Taurus constellation following Aldebaran. The name Elnath means the butting and refers to the horns of the bull. g) One of the myths about the Taurus constellation describes that Zeus assumed the form of a great white bull with magnificent horns. He became a bull in order to impress a legendary Phoenician princess named, Europa. • 8. Harmful Effects Of Machiavellian Advertising As accessibility to and the advancement of the new media increases, our control over what we choose to see to decreases exponentially. Although advertisements do not seem to manifest harmful effects, many advertisers use Machiavellian tactics to sway the opinions of people. Such tactics include: clickbait, which makes use of targeting the curiosity of viewers to simply click on a specific link or video, and data mining, the tracking of recent searches to show advertisements specific to what the robots claim to be one s interests. These techniques used are implemented to evoke the specific interests of the consumer, making pure curiosity in control of what the reader is paying attention to. Clickbait uses persuasive and absorbing headlines and images to allows readers to quickly browse through the content on a website and choose what they want to see. However, much of this content that uses clickbait is false information so advertisers can get the views and shares they desire. Wu mentions the power of clickbait, the technique that started attentional capture online. This attention grabbing idea started on accident with a dispute with Nike. While Nike was promoting their new personalized Nike iD, a customer named Jonah Peretti received an email from the Nike headquarters saying they were unable to process his order because it broke one of four rules when personalizing a word or phrase. It gives the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the beginning, Shakespeare is ensuring that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by showcasing a corrupted man s inner thoughts. Richard wants power, and he wants war and death alike. That is what the speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that they are in a current time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very thought of his deformity, and his soul has become equally as disfigured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary titled Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories of aging as it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and what one piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have chosen to compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The Disengagement Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age, become less active with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The Continuity Theory is based on the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent with age or remain the same throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt ... I feel like some people think that old people are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats an older adult as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The continuity theory on the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want to remain active and engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into many different types of people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and outgoing is easier to care for. THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange. Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995. The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi and Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities, perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles of design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them. The couple s value is much lighter compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall. There is also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look almost as if they could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels more cemented. He is formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of weight and importance. His texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Asim Khan Submitted By Bilal Khalid INTRODUCTION The audit risk model has provided a conceptual framework for auditing practice for more than 40 years. Despite practical difficulties in implementation and criticisms of its theoretical foundation, the model has been fairly effective in helping auditors analyze risks and use that analysis to determine the nature, timing, and extent of audit procedures (especially substantive procedures) in audits of financial statements. The audit risk model provides a conceptual framework for the risk assessment standards. In recent years, auditors have tried to apply the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are: * ISA 315, Understanding the Entity and its Environment and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatements * ISA 330, The Auditor s Procedures in Response to Assessed Risks * ISA 500 (Revised), Audit Evidence. The requirements in these newly issued risk standards represent significant changes to the standards governing audits of financial statements. They enable the auditors to focus more clearly on areas where there is a greater risk of misstatement of the financial statements. The belief is that these risk standards will increase audit quality. This is as a result of better risk assessments through a more detailed understanding of the entity and its environment, including internal control, and improved design and performance of audit procedures to respond to assessed risks of material misstatements. The improved linkage of audit procedures and assessed risks is expected to result in a greater concentration of audit effort on areas where there is a greater risk of material misstatements. The scope of each of the risk standards is reflected in the introduction to the standards, and can be summarized as follows. ISA 315 This standard provides guidance on performing audit procedures to obtain a broader understanding of the entity and its environment, including its internal control, and on assessing risks of material misstatement. First, the source of the threat must control the outcome. Earl controls the outcome of the situation since he has the ability to either obey or disobey Dianne. As a slave, Harriet Jacobs experienced a great amount of pain and suffering while her and her family members were slaves of Dr. Flint. From an analysis of Harriet Jacobs experience in slavery, she suffered more from psychological abuse because she was treated like property, manipulated by Dr. Flint, and emotionally depressed. One of the reasons why Harriet Jacobs suffers more from psychological abuse was because she was treated as property. As the plot develops, Gurov meets a young and naive woman named Anna while vacationing in Yalta. Anna and Gurov have an affair together, which leads to Gurov becoming emotionally invested with her. The story is told through Gurov and his emotional instability is especially accentuated. But more than a month passed, real winter had come, and everything was still clear in his memory as though he had parted with Anna Sergeyeva only the day before. And his memories glowed more and more vividly (Chekhov 272). Once Gurov and Anna part, he finds it difficult to move on from her. The audience is however, able to interpret that Anna is feeling guilty from her affair.
