Alan Menken, a famous Composer, Actor, and Artist, was born on July 22,1949 in New Rochelle,
New York. Alan received a taste of the music life from the start, his mother, Judy Menken, was a
young actress/playwright and his father, Norman Menken, DDS, was a piano playing dentist
(Biography Comments 1). His whole family loved Broadway musicals and they spent many nights
together just listening to his father play piano, Alan once said, I showed an interest in piano at a very
young age, but I hated to practice, so when my parents left the room I d make up my own version of

The concept of variable valve timing has existed for some time. Unfortunately, the ability to achieve
truly variable valve timing has eluded automotive manufacturers. Most variable timing mechanisms
were created as tools for the automotive engineer. Their use was limited to the laboratory as a means
of testing multiple, virtual cam profiles. These early camless engines allowed for the designers to
choose the best cams for the engine under scrutiny, but were less than energy efficient. Furthermore,
they were laboratory machines and were not capable of being mass produced or utilized in an
automobile. There have been a few attempts at developing production models of camless engines,
most notably by Ford, but the use of solenoids has impeded their implementation. Using solenoids to
control hydraulic fluid and ultimately the opening and closing of the engine valves introduces its own
limitations. The solenoids consume considerable energy and are a binary control device they are either

The resident workers fear and hatred of blacks and Italians and vice versa distracts them from their
hatred of the company, and prevents them from bonding together as workers against the Company.
The Company uses racism to their advantage by promoting it, and further prevents unionization of the
workers by showing the union as something new, foreign, and untrustworthy. Unions are forbidden in
the workers contracts, so the workers must meet secretly to discuss the possibility of one. Because
they lack security in their jobs, the workers fear for their lives and creature comforts. The company
promotes this fear by monopolizing housing, forcing workers to live in substandard housing and
making sure that the workers know that if they should lose this housing, they have nowhere else to go,

Lee Brice-Personal Narrative
My favorite and my only concert I ve been to was when I went and watched Lee Brice at the Sioux
Empire Fair. I had went and watched with Vicki Loger, Erin Walstead, and Dallas. It was a fun
experience since I have never been to a concert. I had no idea what to expect but it was fun. He was
pretty good, but low expectations. His voice wasn t as good as I thought it would be. He was little
more oversized in real life which made me mad because he probably uses that weird junk to make him
lose about 20 pounds. I sang along to most of his songs, but what really made me mad is that he sang
his less known songs last. It was disappointing, I had a fun time with other friends though. The fair is

World War II was a time of deliberate hate among groups of innocent people who were used. While
the first thought that comes to mind is the Jewish people kept in Concentration Camps throughout the
Holocaust, this is not it. Japanese Americans were persecuted due to the fact that they looked like
citizens of Japan, who had attacked the United States on December 7th, 1941 at the naval base, Pearl
Harbor. This hatred toward the group was due to newspapers creating a scare for the American people,
as well as the government restricting the rights of Japanese Americans. The Japanese Americans were
