De La Poer s The Rats In The Walls
The Rats in the Walls tells the story of the last living descendent of the de la Poer line, who
learns of his family heritage. The de la Poers formerly inhabited a property called Exham Priory
in Wales, before Walter Delapore, his direct ancestor, killed off the remainder of his family and
fled to Virginia to begin a new life. De la Poer, stricken with the death of his only son, resolves to
move back to Britain and restore his family s home to its former glory. Over a century, Exham
Priory has fallen into a state of squalor; yet, no cost will deter de la Poer from his mission. He
finds that Exham Priory is a very peculiar construction with a very long history. Once an ancient
Druidic temple, it was appropriated and styled by the invading Romans, and later the resident
Saxons. Each culture added their own elements to the structure, resulting in a medieval castle on
the outside with increasingly ancient architecture as one went deeper. The de la Poer family
acquired the site in 1261, and thus began a very strange lineage, hated by the local peasantry, which
became the monstrous subject of many folktales involving demons, rats, and the disappearance of
villagers over many generations. According to legend, the de la Poers haunted the property until

De la Poer resolves to spend a night in the sub cellar, where he is joined by Norrys and his
favorite cat, a black cat with an unfortunately racist name who is often referred to in future
editions of this story as Black Tom. Upon waking up in the night to the sound of rats, de la Poer
finds Black Tom frantically pawing at a small crack in the largest altar in the room. It is revealed
upon closer examination that this is, in fact, a secret

The Speed Limit in the State of Michigan Should be Raised...
Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor s
appointment, but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be
worth the number of lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed
increase of the speed limit in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases
going from 55 to 80 MPH has brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed
limit will only cause more accidents. Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that
the speed limit should not be increased to 80 MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80
MPH will only make drivers speed more. The first piece of ground is the author s assertion that
raising the speed limit will make people drive even faster. According to auto attorney Steve
Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time and talking about increasing the speed limit is
easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the same time that distraction in cars is
greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger problems. For example, texting
while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash. (National Hwy Transportation Safety
Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there should be no need to increase the
speed limit to increase danger on the road. One warrant for this piece of ground is that drivers have
a need for speed, so imagine people going close to 90 MPH on the highway. People

Noel Short Story
In this story Noel it is displayed that the children are treated like property or an object someone
can use. This is demonstrated in that they rent the children and that the customers are
expanding. They use the children to make money in this atmosphere it feels gust like a store. A
store where you can pre order and just go pick up and also some where you can go shopping and
look at the merchandise. The children symbolize an object or a piece of property. The children
are used as a piece of property they can rent. They rented the children for 48 hours like if they
were renting a car. The children are used to make money and there even is a insurance deposit. If
they are to be late to return the chilled there would be an extra ten dollar

Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy Essay
Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy
This paper argues that liberalism provides democracy with the experience of civic reformism.
Without it, democracy loses any tie argumentative or practical to a coherent design of public
policy endeavoring to provide the resources for the realization of democratic citizenship. The case
for liberalism rests on an argumentative reconstruction of the function it performs before the rise of
a world economic order and, more specifically, in the creation of the welfare state after the Second
World War. Accordingly, liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory
political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship
rights. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For its later history, liberalism owes as much to its antecedents (situated at the rise of parliamentary
assemblies and of the rule of law in the Middle Ages), as to its linkages with the republican tradition
of communal self government (from the seventeenth century onwards), and with the socialist
tradition in support for an egalitarian model of society (as from the eighteenth century). Indeed, it is
this double tie what determines that the political history of liberalism belongs to the history of
modern democracy: a representative democracy but, thereby, pluralist. The tie also explains that the
economic history of liberalism cannot be separated from the birth of the welfare state.
In both respects liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political
project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights.
This is but a formulation of the modern idea of citizenship, conceived of as a universalizable
contract of rights. At the same time, liberalism embraces a socio economic emancipatory project
that endeavors to provide the conditions, within the institutional frame of modern societies, for the
accomplishment of citizenship rights. Let us comment on this double characterization.
Liberal Citizenship: A Universalizable Contract of Rights
Firstly, if citizenship denotes the membership statute of individuals and social groups belonging to
a political community (namely, a

The Character Quoyle in Annie Proulx s The Shipping News...
The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure Sven Goran Eriksson. Success is an
achievement in life which most people would be appreciative towards, but failure is looked upon
in a disgraceful manner. People in society tend to face many challenges that occur in their daily
lives. Some of these challenges can affect their lives dramatically in a positive or negative way. If
one decides not to surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of
time. Having confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. In the
novel, The Shipping News, by Annie Proulx, Quoyle deals with many difficult challenges along his
life journey by suffering from bad childhood experiences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Quoyle, the main character in the novel, had a rough childhood which was one of the main
reasons towards his low confidence level. Quoyle would always get pushed around and walked
on which is just like the meaning of his name, Quoyle is a rope that is always tangled together
and usually on the floor where people step all over it, which is very similar to Quoyle as a
character because his life is also tangled and confusing and he too gets walked all over and
pushed around by others. A quote that illustrates how Quoyle felt about his childhood would be,
?This gave me an uneasy feeling, the feeling of standing on a playground watching others play
games whose rules I didn?t know.? (Proulx, 63) This demonstrates that even as an adult Quoyle
had bad memories as a child that is locked into his mind. Quoyle?s physical appearance has been
a great embarrassment for him because he feels as if he is ?ugly? because of his ?monstrous
chin? as he calls it and it is shown in the novel that Quoyle hates his chin as well, ?Quoyle put his
hand over his chin.? (Proulx, 20) This is one of the constant actions Quoyle does which shows
that he is unhappy with his outer appearance. As a child Quoyle has always been isolated, he
would always get teased, picked on and pushed around by other and most of the time it would be
his brother and father. One of the main reasons he disliked his family was because

Pros And Cons Of Rotorua Famil
Rotorua Famil My report will consist of my domestic travel experience to Rotorua where two of
our Level 3 classes travelled to Rotorua .This will cover the products and service that our group
encountered throughout our three day famil. This will feature my personal recommendations of the
pros and cons of Rotorua ranging from the activities and attractions that I experienceon the famil.
This will cover the five sectors of tourism ranging from transportation, accommodation, activities
and ancillary services.
Transportation
Our famil begin with our bus transport from Wellington where students who were wanting to be
picked up from Wellington were to meet at the rail station before 7 am. Along with this students
who commuted from other suburbs such as Porirua or Levin were also pick up along the way
which was a sign of relief and more convenient for those students as I was one of the many. Dave
our bus driver from Tranzit Coach Lines was our transport provider throughout our three day
famil. I would definitely recommend this transport company as our bus driver always had a
friendly attitude but he also gave us an insight on some of the towns we came across throughout
our trip. This definitely made our trip more memorable as he went the extra mile for me and my

Designing primers and optimisation of a Real Time PCR assay
Introduction
This essay based on the principle of real time PCR which uses CYBR green dye that combines to
any double stand DNA. This process included two maim steps. The first step was designing of
HSV 1 primer and /or HSV 2 primer (we have chosen only HSV 1). BioEdit software has been
used to edit the nuclide sequences where necessary. After that the primer has been ordered. The
second step was in the laboratory which included applying the HSV 1 primers to real time PCR
protocol. The final results of this protocols aim to demonstrate the quality of HSV 1 primer that we
have designed by interpretation three criteria. These are specificity, efficiency and... Show more

Whereas the reaction products are not specific the SYBR green dye added to the reaction mixture to
quantitatively indicate the amount of dsDNA in the reaction mixture by providing amplification
plot and melt curve as well as the melt temperature plot that used in may offers useful information
about the sensitivity of the DNA template in the sample (Giglio, Monis and Saint, 2003).
From PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix kit two reaction mixtures have been prepared.
Reference primers (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, forward primer, reverse primer
and ultrapure water).
Own primer (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, the forward primer we have ordered,
reverse primer we have ordered and ultrapure water).
PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix designed to avoid the reamplification of PCR
products by clearing any uracil combined to into single or double stranded components by uracil

When the mixtures ready and added to Applied Biosystems wells we have run them to PCR
machine as these conditions activation at 50 В°C for 2 minutes and at 95В°C for 2 minutes and
Amplification at 95 В°C for 1 seconds; 60 В°C for 30 seconds Г— 40 (Applied Biosystem, 2010).

Who Would You Expect To Be Recovered In The Story Why...
I would expect to be rescued if I put myself at risk because I wouldn t want to die. Also people
pay a lot of money to go climbing. Rescuers also could be hero s if they save people. So people
who put themselves at risk have the right to be rescued. One reason why those who need help
should be rescued is because climbers pay a lot of money to go climbing. The author in the story
Why Everest? Says that they pay ... thousands of dollars ... for a permit . ( Guy Moreau ).This
quote shows that they should be rescued because they pay a lot of money for permits to climb the
mountain, that money should also go to the rescue cost. Even though climbers put themselves in
danger they paid a lot of money for the permit to climb the mountain. Another

Money Plays An Important Factor
Money plays an important factor in schools decisions for cutting or reducing fine arts. Cutting
fine arts saves money that could be used on academically stimulating programs and bettering
Core subject areas. An Arizona newspaper reported that a school district was able to save one
and a half million dollars when they completely cut their fine arts program (Faller). Fine arts takes
up a large portion of schools budgets, and schools who cut it in its entirety would be able to save
that money and set it aside for academic programs with more measurable results. Alternatively,
schools also reduce their fine arts programs and make it more of an extracurricular activity. This
continues the schools involvement and sponsorship for the arts, but... Show more content on

Educators, administrators, and the public might also argue to increase fine arts funding, but only to
the schools who are struggling to meet Core standards, as well as other educational requirements.
In school facilities where there are large demographics of Hispanics and African Americans,
students are less likely to have the opportunity to take art classes (Holcomb). Since these students
won t receive as equal of an education as their peers, then something needs to intervene and
equalize their opportunities with those who have access to these programs. Historically speaking,
schools with high concentrations of minorities have generally had limited access to fine arts
classes (Holcomb). This has been an ongoing problem, and an increase of funding to these schools
may be the solution to the problem. According to a study in Social Science Quarterly ,
socioeconomic and ethnicity are factors in music participation in children; whites and Asians from
higher socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to play an instrument than African Americans or
Hispanics (Holcomb). Increasing the funding for struggling schools may seem like one of the best
solutions, but what happens to the schools with established and succeeding arts programs? Do they
receive an increase of funding too? Chances are no, because these schools will statistically have
higher standardized test scores than the struggling schools.

Why Did Tesla Win The Battle For Westinghouse
Tesla went to work for Westinghouse and helped him eventually win the battle for electrical
power distribution in the US and elsewhere. Edison was hell bent to electrify everything with
DC, but found that it was very inefficient and required more generating stations over shorter
distances. But AC with its ability to be stepped up in voltage by a transformer could be
transmitted efficiently over very long distances then stepped back down to usable levels where
it was to be used. Tesla was a major player in building the first big power generating plant at
Niagara Falls, NY. In any case, he was a major player in making AC the electrical power of choice.
And despite his essential role and success, he never got rich like the Westinghouses and

The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley Essay
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, is not only an example of a Medieval
Romance, but also tells the story of the women who stood behind King Arthur during his infamous
reign in the Middle Ages. The term Medieval Romance does not necessarily mean that the piece
using it contains any sort of romance. There are three criteria that must be meet to form a
Medieval Romance. (1) The plot must divide into sharply separate episodes that often do not seem
joined in any obvious casual fashion. (2) The plots generally take the form of tests that they must
pass to attain form goal. (3) The protagonist fails tests, which often involve acts of moral and
spiritual perception, until such a point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Even though the believers In Avalon thought well of the Christian, the Christians despised those
from Avalon, and thought of them as evil. Viviane, a woman, is the High Priestess of Avalon. It
was she, following the wishes of the Goddess, who set Arthur on the Throne. The High Priestess
seats Arthur on the throne in the hope that he will protect the rites and traditions of Avalon. Old
Arthurian Legends were always told from a Christian man s perspective, the Lady of the Lake is
looked on as an evil sorceress. In The Mists of Avalon, however, we see Viviane s actions through
Viviane s eyes. This new perspective allows us to see that Viviane worked only for the good of the
people and is not evil. It is in this feminine perspective that we are given more insight into Arthurian
Legend.
Camelot and Avalon were alive in the time of knights, and of war and conquest. Old Arthurian
Legend is full of tales about an individual knight s prowess. Tales of bloody battles, and of long
quests with many duels are very common. They also told of great battles with foreign invaders.
Long battles full of gore and great detail. In The Mists of Avalon there are many battles against
such invaders. Most notably of such battles are the Saxons. The Saxons try to take over the lands
of High and Les Britain. Arthur must rally all the people of his lands to unite

2. Mechanical and electronic access control
Electronic access control
The next layer is mechanical includes gates, doors, and locks. Control of the locks becomes a
problem with large user populations and large user turnover. The use of keys can quickly become
unmanageable, thus forcing the adoption of electronic access control. The most desirable is
Electronic access control which easily manages large user populations, controlling the user
lifecycles times, dates, and individual access points.
Also, by using an additional sub layer of mechanical/electronic access control protection one can
reach a higher level of security, by integrating a key management system to manage the possession
and usage of mechanical keys to locks or property within a building or campus.
3. Intrusion detection
The third layer is intrusion detection systems or alarms. Intrusion detection monitors for attacks; it
is less of a preventative measure and more of a response measure, despite the fact that some would
argue it is a deterrent. Intrusion detection has a high incidence of false alarms and in many
jurisdictions, law enforcement will not respond to alarms from intrusion detection systems.
4. Video monitoring

The last layer is video monitoring systems. Like intrusion detection, these are not much of a
deterrent. Video monitoring systems are more

The life of teens going to black tie events every week or so even in New York can be unrealistic.
Another fault viewers might complain about is the plots of some episodes may seem obvious or
happen too fast. Viewers can be left with disappointment because some issues can be left
resolved with simple solutions, or some can be completely ignored altogether. Specifically, a
scene in the show has a con man pretending to be Serena s friend; Poppy Lifton, get away with all

saying I ll handle this and later on in the next episode the money is back. In that case, I actually
wanted to see how she got the money back, and I was left confused and a little letdown. As for
rushed plots, this may be a result of tired writers, but to make a good show a better one they should
have fixed that. One more small critique, teens in high school without a flaw insight, in reality, that

Strategic Profile Of The Boeing Corporation
Strategic Profile
The Boeing Airplane Company was established in 1916 by William Boeing in the city of Seattle,
Washington. Boeing has become one of the world s biggest manufacturers when it comes to
military and commercial planes and parts. There are two major corporations within the aircraft
industry that are big competitors and share a great rivalry with each other and they are the Boeing

when it comes to finding potential contracts for their airplane and also creating different and unique
aircraft models for their targeted customers.
There are five divisional units in which Boeing coordinate their products and services that they offer
to their customers, which are Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense Space and Security,
Boeing Military Aircraft, Boeing Global Services and Support and Boeing Capital Corporation.

Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the
speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems
always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by
William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others
contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form,
containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme
scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional
sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets
written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet
form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description
of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three
quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she
doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes... Show more content on

Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that
obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. As the speaker lightly
mocks traditional poems and beauty images, he turns the theme to an illustration of true love,
ending the poem on a sweet note. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is
mocking other poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that
even in a poem where he is mocking other poets he need to express his true feeling about his

The huge potential and high margins in gaming industry attracted stalwarts Sony and Microsoft to
directly compete with Nintendo by launching their own device consoles, PS3 and Xbox
respectively. Although a late entrant in the market, Microsoft attracted huge audience with Xbox in
2001. The existence of developer network for Microsoft windows enabled new and enticing
content to be quickly developed for Xbox. As the semiconductor industry saw huge improvements
and innovations, Microsoft, and its competitors, introduced advanced hardware. Microsoft
followed Xbox with Xbox One in 2006 and Xbox Live in 2013.
Extension:
Xbox One, primarily a gaming device, had penetrated the market by 2010s and has developed a
huge fan base of millions of users. Xbox one was offered in multiple versions with 250GB,
500GB hard disk capacity to allow users to store gaming content. Microsoft has extended the
original Xbox by adding larger disk space, improved multi player gaming capability, and a better
user interface. The enhancements on the console allowed game developers to extend better content
with higher resolution and graphics.

The Problem Posing By Paulo Freire
Classroom experiences are like polyatomic ions: some are positive while others are negative.
While the majority of the experiences at the West Genesee School District have been positive, I
can recollect one experience that was particularly negative. During the duration of my Advanced
Placement global history course, I was the subject in a class, that, by definition, would be closer to
the problem posing classroom that Paulo Freiredescribes in his piece The Banking Concept of
Education. In his works, Paulo Freire asserts that the problem posing education makes them [the
students] critical thinkers (Freire 221). As Freire describes, a class that implements the problem
posing policy is one in which students are to become critical thinkers. Freire would have been
ecstatic that other educators carried out his ideas in their own problem posing classroom. My
teacher me made it unequivocal that this class was going to challenge the way we analyzed and
understood history. The teacher continued to describe the role of the student in the classroom; the
educator expected the pupil to analyze readings and argue about what the pupil deemed to be the
most important concepts presented. Regardless of the content, Egyptian hieroglyphics or Genghis
Kahn, while the students studied history, the teacher insisted that the students evaluated the
relationships between the causes, effects, and relevance of various topics throughout the course. In
addition, the student prepared to discuss

The Australian Curriculum V7.2 Science Rationale
Introduction
The purpose of science education is not a straightforward concept, as it is ever evolving and
dynamic to meet the needs of society s expectations and values at that point in time (Ferrari, 2010).
Science education should be nurturing, engaging and challenging in the 21st century classroom,
catering for all students. We as teachers should encourage out students to explore the world, by
providing motivation, engagement and education about the wonder and potential of science, we
need to move the focus of our teaching away from the fact finding, memorising and formula driven
practical that capture what school has become to our students today (Ferrari, 2010). Science
provides a practical way of answering questions about our everyday lives, whether that is biological,
physical or technological world around us ( The Australian Curriculum v7.2 Science: Rationale,
n.d.). This is why science education is important to our curriculum.

Unethical Practices For Business Success Essay
We have heard the well used phrase, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and have applied it
well as we travel among other countries and cultures, with great success. However, in business, it
does not prove to be as much of a reliable phrase to live by. General practices of businesses can
sometimes prove to be unethical, even though they are quite legal, or were simply unethical in their
conduct and operations, with no remorse. Unethical practices by businesses have often been a
catalyst in their demise. Hence, for businesssuccess, we might say, When in business, practicing
integrity is good business, because if it is adhered to, it can be a recipe for success.
According to an article, Unethical Rationalizations and Misconceptions, which was published by
ethicsalarms.com, there are countless excuses and reasons people justify unethical practices,
whether they are legal or illegal. Every form of excuse, It s done all the time, to It s always been
done this way, to Everybody accepts it, to Nobody s complained before, to It s too late to change
now, to No harm, no foul, to name a few. These justifications are clearly evident that the ABCDs of
ethical decision making have been bypassed.
When operating a business, it is more profitable to consider every aspect of the outcome of the
decisions that we make. We need to be aware of the facts of the entire situation. Who will it
impact most and to what degree? How do I feel about the decision I am going to make?

Balanced Scorecard Case Study

Enterprises REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview
of the theoretical background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical

its strategy. However, if an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the
company, they may experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. The strategy of a
company is often aligned to the mission, vision and core values of an organization along with a

Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that
provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and
Norton, D.P. 1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based
Costing or the ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the
organizations were able to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a
more balanced approach that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which
are the financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance
scorecard accurate, the organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy
of the company into the scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy.
The outcome measures of the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance
and the performance drivers that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. S.

Csr And Its Usefulness For Modern Business
Many social scientists and economists like Friedman (1917 NYT article); Visser (2010) and
Karnani (2011) have been looking at the arguments for and against Corporate Social
Responsibility . There are many different definitions of CSR but the idea behind it is that
businesses contribute to the well being of society, as well as sustainable development by
delivering environmental, economic and social benefits to society, not just economic benefits
to the shareholders. Most writers have made slightly different cases against CSR and its
usefulness for modern business and society. One can see, even by looking at relevant case
studies, that there are certainly a large amount of flaws involved in the concept of CRS and
DWBD (Doing well by doing good), which I shall point out over the rest of this coursework. I
shall also consider the positive aspects of CSR, I will explore the critical writings off Karnani,
who claimed that in each case CSR is either irrelevant or ineffective, and compare those to other
notable criticisms such as Reich and Visser who all analyse various faults with the concept of
CSR. A problem that I came across early in my research and reading was that motives for
businesses to engage in CSR are very often not pure. Many businesses use CSR in order to claim
their social licence to operate. As the CSR activity often makes them seem legitimate and
responsible, it gives managers an opportunity to hide and disguise the activities of the corporation.

Throughout history women have been the primary caretakers of children. According to
sociologist Parsons, women are natural caregivers and the ones who take care of the kids and
are often more likely to be a single parent than a man (Cite source on this). Therefore this
becomes a problem if women go to prison. With more women going to prison more children are
going to be at loss of a primary caregiver, leading them to seek attention and affection in other
places. Children are already at a disadvantage with one parent in prison, however having a
mother in prison is more disadvantageous (Pollock, 2014, p. 27). According to Pollock, it has
been reported that adult children of mothers who have ever been incarcerated are 2.5 times as

to the refineries, we get the following Optimal Solution. The Minimum cost is $ 880 Million.
Now, we look at the minimum operating costs incurred when we ship the petroleum from the Oil
Refineries to the Distribution Centres.
Following is the solution:
The Cost incurred after shipping the petroleum to the Distribution Centres is $1570 Million. So,
the minimum cost that Texago Corporation will have to incur when they set up their refinery at
Los Angeles will be 880+1570 i.e. $2450 Million.

In the film, Mississippi Masala directed by Mira Nair, the story focuses on various characters and

They move to Mississippi and settle there in their new home in America. Despite resettling in

Structuralism In Coach Carter
Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race
that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities.
Thus, it is focused on exposing these structures and investigating power, who has it, who doesn t
and what we can do to change this often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, strive for
social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017).

Without picking sides as to whether power is used to the benefit or disadvantage of students,
Coach Carter can be using his legitimate or socially prescribed power over his students to force
the cancellation of practice and the forfeiting of games (group dynamics). Yet, while Carter has
power over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s
principle or the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as
demonstrated by their power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated
nicely by the film, power may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate
the matter such is often determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding
power.
One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of
power in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I
believe it is through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to
instill a sense of belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the
narrative against the kids of Richmond High School. A narrative made clear through sediments such
as that made by Principle Garrison, who at the beginning of the lockout states, ...so you take away

A wireless LAN or WLAN is a wireless local area network, which is the linking of two or more

utilizes spread spectrum technology based on radio waves to enable communication between

Wireless Local Area networks (WLANs) have been employed to add mobility features to office

The standard developed by working group 802.11 was accepted by the IEEE board during the
summer of 1997 and became IEEE standard 802.11 1997. The new standard defines three different
physical implementations (signaling techniques and modulations), a Media Access Control
function, and a Management function. The three physical implementations are:
1.Direct sequence spread spectrum radio (DSSS) in the 2.4 GHz band,
2.Frequency hopping spread spectrum radio (FHSS) in the 2.4 GHz band, and
3.Infrared light (IR).
All of the implementations support data rates of 1 Mb/s and, optionally, 2 Mb/s. The 802.11
working group is currently considering additions to the standard that will provide higher data
rates (5.5 and 11 Mb/s) in the 2.4 GHz band and additions that will allow wireless LANs to operate
in a 5 GHz band. Acceptance of the standard for higher data rates in the 2.4 GHz band is expected
in October of 1998.

It is unnerving to have a woman in the same room while players are showering and changing. It is
also awkward for the female athletic trainer to be present when men all around her are changing
and showering. A second argument for those who oppose is that women are seen as pushovers
in the training room. Stereotypically, women are seen as dainty, elegant people that cannot
stand up in an authority position over the gigantic football brutes. Likewise, it is awkward for a
female athletic trainer to demonstrate her power over the coach. If the athletic trainer believes
that the team needs a water break, it is his or her obligation to inform the coach, and sometimes
it can get pretty dicey between the athletic trainer and the coach. Also, if an athletic trainer will
not clear a player to be able to return to play, the coach and the athletic trainer can become very
argumentative and irrational. If the athletic trainer is female, the coach believes that she will hold
grudges like most other females they know. The final argument is that women can be a
distraction to the players. If there is a female on the field, the players could get distracted and not
be able to focus clearly on the task at hand. Almost following the same line, there is a big hazard
potential. Sexual harassment is a big issue in any work environment, but imagine how much more
of a hazard this would be. The hazard potential of sexual harassment

Saltwater Experiment
Fresh water is less dense than salt water, which causes fresh water to accumulate on the top
surface of the salt water. In the brine experiment, I concluded that freshwater has a density of 1.0
g/ml and salt water has a density of 1.025g/ml. After removing the cups of salt water and
freshwater from the freezer it was evident that the freshwater was frozen throughout, however the
salt water had a layer of water below the freezing fresh water.
Salt water freezes at a lower temperature than fresh water. As fresh water freezes, it forces the salt
out. When seawater freezes, the salt is forced out of the ice in a process called brine exclusion .
Therefore, sea ice is essentially fresh water (Worster, 1992). The removed salt increases the salinity

Dense, cooler, and usually nutrient rich water moves towards the ocean surface, replacing the
warmer, usually nutrient depleted surface water (Vizcarra, 2015). Changes in the force and
direction of ocean currents will affect the availability of nutrients. The top layer of the ocean
collects the warmth and energy of sunlight, while the bottom layers collect the rich, nutrient filled
sediment of decayed plant and animal matter (Vizcarra, 2015). These nutrients are carried by the
conveyor belt to other ocean regions and supply nutrient rich materials to areas that would have low
amounts of nutrients if the thermohaline circulation didn t exist. Ocean life is dependent on these
nutrients for sustainment. It would lead to an imbalance or even destruction of certain food chains.
Before sinking, the water absorbs enormous amounts of gases such as carbon dioxide at the ocean
surface, and then transports them to greater depths (Vizcarra, 2015). Marine plants use dissolved
carbon dioxide, sunlight, and water to make carbohydrates through the process of photosynthesis.
This process releases oxygen into the water. All marine organisms use oxygen for respiration. If
thermohaline circulation is changed it will affect the amount of these gases that are available and
essential for the survival of marine

Social Class Hierarchies In Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw
On the surface, the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw is a modernized, real life spin off
of the Greek myth of Pygmalion, in which a sculptor falls in love with a statue that he has carved.
One can easily argue that Professor Higgins plays the role of the sculptor, as he molds Eliza, the
statue, into something more desirable throughout the entirety of the play. However, when digging
deeper into the text through the use of close reading, I found that the play itself outlined and
symbolized the differences in social classhierarchies. In fact, I think that the text was a medium
that the author used to display a social experiment, and highlight the advantages and
disadvantages that the changing of social hierarchies is able to provide. The play opens with a
dark, rainy scene that introduces the majority of the main characters right away. Eliza, referred
to as the Flower Girl is initially depicted as a ragged, grimy individual hopelessly trying to sell
flowers to people leaving a theater after a show. Nearby, Professor Higgins and Colonel
Pickering are depicted as well dressed, stable individuals that are referred to as the Note Taker and
the Gentleman respectively. In this particular scene, I think that Shaw does a great job of showing
upfront differences in social structure, as the Flower Girl is representative of the poorer, lower
class community, while the Note Taker and the Gentleman are displaying the wealthier upper class.
The fact that the two social

French And Indian War Turning Point Essay
The French and Indian War Turning Point
During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the
end of salutary neglect, and self government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of
not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists
grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life
was good. Things were simple in Britain s relationship with the colonies, they traded with each
other and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed
to trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something
Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want
part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the
British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the
war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king
had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace,
there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these
were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to
provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The
Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act
put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the
colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the
colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they
should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self government, so
they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the
Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from

Why Plagiarism Is Wrong
As you complete the last step you will be expected to use the information obtained in an effective
manner. The result of extended research will consist of many thoughts and theories which have
been analyzed by different individuals. When a topic is brought to a conclusion, it is natural for
scholar to agree with various sources. This does not in any way mean that one can write the
information provided word for word without giving credit to its owner. As explained in Your
College Experience, this is considered, Plagiarism, or taking another person s idea or work and

I include in my paper or presentation? In order to avoid excluding important facts and opinions
one can cite their sources which is a way to provide credit to the owner. Two of the most common

Robespierre, The French Revolution And The Symbol Of Evil...
Those people of the past that are studied as historical figures major and minor make up a virtually
insignificant portion of the people that have inhabited the earth since the beginning of civilization.
And yet to die without a memorable legacy is much more desirable a fate than to be remembered
with enduring hatred for what one accomplished and stood for during life. Certainly, there are
many who deserve to be remembered with spite people whose beliefs and actions were
unacceptable whether evaluated in a modern context or that of their own period. And yet still some
are hated for centuries, mainly due to having made powerful enemies while alive. Maximilien
Robespierre, who is often regarded as the leading figure of the French Revolutionand the symbol of
violent excess during that period, was one such person. Although the view of Robespierre within
the historical community has softened (to a certain degree), he remains a personification of evil
in the public mind. For example, the first result of a quick Google search for most evil people
includes a list of 25 historical figures, with Robespierre at no. 17, ahead of others such as Adolf
Eichmann, Heinrich Himmler, and Osama bin Laden. While this website is by no means a
scholarly source, it serves to underline the way in which the average person views Robespierre in
a grossly inaccurate fashion. The legacy that was created for Robespierre by political opponents
who used him as a scapegoat is not at all one that

How Did Religion Influence Ancient Greek Society
Religion was a very important factor in Ancient Greek society. The city states had the same
religion. Zeus is the God of Gods according to their belief system. The ancient Greeks have a
polytheistic religion with twelve main Gods. In Greek Mythology, people believe that the gods
are a part of every aspect of life and they influence the events in life. Olympia was a shrine to Zeus.
Greek religion was present in almost all aspects of the Olympics, the religion was accepted by
the majority of Greek society, they made sacrifices and believed that the gods influenced the
victors, the victors were rewarded with sacred items. All of the city states believed in Greek
mythology and it was mostly accepted by Greeks. There was no one book of sacred scripture.
There were no binding social classes from religion because they believed that the Gods and
Goddess would give gifts to those who they saw fit. The religion was very much influenced by
nature. They worshiped in sanctuaries. Often times they made scarifies to the gods at the
sanctuaries. The belief was that because they Gods were near them and in human form, they... Show

They had to make their own camp whether they made a tent or just slept on the ground. There
was very little water. The stadium could fit 50,000 people. Important visitors and athletes had
hotels. Despite the harsh conditions people still came to watch the games. Women were not
allowed if they were married and if they were caught they would be punished. Women had their
own games called Heraia, in honor of the Goddess Hera, Zeus s wife. They had running races; no
sports were played unless the women were from Sparta (The Olympic Games). The women also
wanted to honor a god which further displays the desire within the ancient Greeks to please the
gods, also with so many people going to the Olympics hoping to show Zeus that they wish to please
him exemplifies how religion was very important in ancient Greek

  • 2. De La Poer s The Rats In The Walls The Rats in the Walls tells the story of the last living descendent of the de la Poer line, who learns of his family heritage. The de la Poers formerly inhabited a property called Exham Priory in Wales, before Walter Delapore, his direct ancestor, killed off the remainder of his family and fled to Virginia to begin a new life. De la Poer, stricken with the death of his only son, resolves to move back to Britain and restore his family s home to its former glory. Over a century, Exham Priory has fallen into a state of squalor; yet, no cost will deter de la Poer from his mission. He finds that Exham Priory is a very peculiar construction with a very long history. Once an ancient Druidic temple, it was appropriated and styled by the invading Romans, and later the resident Saxons. Each culture added their own elements to the structure, resulting in a medieval castle on the outside with increasingly ancient architecture as one went deeper. The de la Poer family acquired the site in 1261, and thus began a very strange lineage, hated by the local peasantry, which became the monstrous subject of many folktales involving demons, rats, and the disappearance of villagers over many generations. According to legend, the de la Poers haunted the property until Walter Delapore, a chivalrous and delicate man, suddenly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Speed Limit in the State of Michigan Should be Raised... Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor s appointment, but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be worth the number of lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed increase of the speed limit in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases going from 55 to 80 MPH has brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed limit will only cause more accidents. Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that the speed limit should not be increased to 80 MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80 MPH will only make drivers speed more. The first piece of ground is the author s assertion that raising the speed limit will make people drive even faster. According to auto attorney Steve Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time and talking about increasing the speed limit is easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the same time that distraction in cars is greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger problems. For example, texting while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash. (National Hwy Transportation Safety Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there should be no need to increase the speed limit to increase danger on the road. One warrant for this piece of ground is that drivers have a need for speed, so imagine people going close to 90 MPH on the highway. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy Essay Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy This paper argues that liberalism provides democracy with the experience of civic reformism. Without it, democracy loses any tie argumentative or practical to a coherent design of public policy endeavoring to provide the resources for the realization of democratic citizenship. The case for liberalism rests on an argumentative reconstruction of the function it performs before the rise of a world economic order and, more specifically, in the creation of the welfare state after the Second World War. Accordingly, liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For its later history, liberalism owes as much to its antecedents (situated at the rise of parliamentary assemblies and of the rule of law in the Middle Ages), as to its linkages with the republican tradition of communal self government (from the seventeenth century onwards), and with the socialist tradition in support for an egalitarian model of society (as from the eighteenth century). Indeed, it is this double tie what determines that the political history of liberalism belongs to the history of modern democracy: a representative democracy but, thereby, pluralist. The tie also explains that the economic history of liberalism cannot be separated from the birth of the welfare state. In both respects liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights. This is but a formulation of the modern idea of citizenship, conceived of as a universalizable contract of rights. At the same time, liberalism embraces a socio economic emancipatory project that endeavors to provide the conditions, within the institutional frame of modern societies, for the accomplishment of citizenship rights. Let us comment on this double characterization. Liberal Citizenship: A Universalizable Contract of Rights Firstly, if citizenship denotes the membership statute of individuals and social groups belonging to a political community (namely, a ... • 6. The Character Quoyle in Annie Proulx s The Shipping News... The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure Sven Goran Eriksson. Success is an achievement in life which most people would be appreciative towards, but failure is looked upon in a disgraceful manner. People in society tend to face many challenges that occur in their daily lives. Some of these challenges can affect their lives dramatically in a positive or negative way. If one decides not to surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of time. Having confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. In the novel, The Shipping News, by Annie Proulx, Quoyle deals with many difficult challenges along his life journey by suffering from bad childhood experiences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quoyle, the main character in the novel, had a rough childhood which was one of the main reasons towards his low confidence level. Quoyle would always get pushed around and walked on which is just like the meaning of his name, Quoyle is a rope that is always tangled together and usually on the floor where people step all over it, which is very similar to Quoyle as a character because his life is also tangled and confusing and he too gets walked all over and pushed around by others. A quote that illustrates how Quoyle felt about his childhood would be, ?This gave me an uneasy feeling, the feeling of standing on a playground watching others play games whose rules I didn?t know.? (Proulx, 63) This demonstrates that even as an adult Quoyle had bad memories as a child that is locked into his mind. Quoyle?s physical appearance has been a great embarrassment for him because he feels as if he is ?ugly? because of his ?monstrous chin? as he calls it and it is shown in the novel that Quoyle hates his chin as well, ?Quoyle put his hand over his chin.? (Proulx, 20) This is one of the constant actions Quoyle does which shows that he is unhappy with his outer appearance. As a child Quoyle has always been isolated, he would always get teased, picked on and pushed around by other and most of the time it would be his brother and father. • 11. Money Plays An Important Factor Money plays an important factor in schools decisions for cutting or reducing fine arts. Cutting fine arts saves money that could be used on academically stimulating programs and bettering Core subject areas. An Arizona newspaper reported that a school district was able to save one and a half million dollars when they completely cut their fine arts program (Faller). Fine arts takes up a large portion of schools budgets, and schools who cut it in its entirety would be able to save that money and set it aside for academic programs with more measurable results. Alternatively, schools also reduce their fine arts programs and make it more of an extracurricular activity. This continues the schools involvement and sponsorship for the arts, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Educators, administrators, and the public might also argue to increase fine arts funding, but only to the schools who are struggling to meet Core standards, as well as other educational requirements. In school facilities where there are large demographics of Hispanics and African Americans, students are less likely to have the opportunity to take art classes (Holcomb). Since these students won t receive as equal of an education as their peers, then something needs to intervene and equalize their opportunities with those who have access to these programs. Historically speaking, schools with high concentrations of minorities have generally had limited access to fine arts classes (Holcomb). This has been an ongoing problem, and an increase of funding to these schools may be the solution to the problem. According to a study in Social Science Quarterly , socioeconomic and ethnicity are factors in music participation in children; whites and Asians from higher socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to play an instrument than African Americans or Hispanics (Holcomb). Increasing the funding for struggling schools may seem like one of the best solutions, but what happens to the schools with established and succeeding arts programs? Do they receive an increase of funding too? Chances are no, because these schools will statistically have higher standardized test scores than the struggling schools. ... The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley Essay The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, is not only an example of a Medieval Romance, but also tells the story of the women who stood behind King Arthur during his infamous reign in the Middle Ages. The term Medieval Romance does not necessarily mean that the piece using it contains any sort of romance. There are three criteria that must be meet to form a Medieval Romance. (1) The plot must divide into sharply separate episodes that often do not seem joined in any obvious casual fashion. It was she, following the wishes of the Goddess, who set Arthur on the Throne. The High Priestess seats Arthur on the throne in the hope that he will protect the rites and traditions of Avalon. Old Arthurian Legends were always told from a Christian man s perspective, the Lady of the Lake is looked on as an evil sorceress. Mechanical and electronic access control Electronic access control The next layer is mechanical includes gates, doors, and locks. Control of the locks becomes a problem with large user populations and large user turnover. The use of keys can quickly become unmanageable, thus forcing the adoption of electronic access control. The most desirable is Electronic access control which easily manages large user populations, controlling the user lifecycles times, dates, and individual access points. Also, by using an additional sub layer of mechanical/electronic access control protection one can reach a higher level of security, by integrating a key management system to manage the possession and usage of mechanical keys to locks or property within a building or campus. 3. Intrusion detection The third layer is intrusion detection systems or alarms. Intrusion detection monitors for attacks; it is less of a preventative measure and more of a response measure, despite the fact that some would argue it is a deterrent. After only three weeks, David was scheduled to return home and when he did, Clara and her family were astonished to see David fully recooperated. Clara felt as though he had come back from the brink of death.13 The seclusion that Clara experienced while nursing her brother was evident, it only intensified her timidness. With Clara s time becoming hers once again, she felt as though it had become strange and idle, so she often wondered around. Some days, she would go horseback riding with her father, while others were spent making new clothes with her mother. Clara didn t relish her newly found freedom, in fact, she had no desire to embark on adventures with her playmates; instead, she felt as though her time was wasted and often became anxious to find an occupation. ... • 23. Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form, containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes... While the majority of the experiences at the West Genesee School District have been positive, I can recollect one experience that was particularly negative. In his works, Paulo Freire asserts that the problem posing education makes them [the students] critical thinkers (Freire 221). As Freire describes, a class that implements the problem posing policy is one in which students are to become critical thinkers. Freire would have been ecstatic that other educators carried out his ideas in their own problem posing classroom. Csr And Its Usefulness For Modern Business Many social scientists and economists like Friedman (1917 NYT article); Visser (2010) and Karnani (2011) have been looking at the arguments for and against Corporate Social Responsibility . There are many different definitions of CSR but the idea behind it is that businesses contribute to the well being of society, as well as sustainable development by delivering environmental, economic and social benefits to society, not just economic benefits to the shareholders. Most writers have made slightly different cases against CSR and its usefulness for modern business and society. One can see, even by looking at relevant case studies, that there are certainly a large amount of flaws involved in the concept of CRS and DWBD (Doing well by doing good), which I shall point out over the rest of this coursework. I shall also consider the positive aspects of CSR, I will explore the critical writings off Karnani, who claimed that in each case CSR is either irrelevant or ineffective, and compare those to other notable criticisms such as Reich and Visser who all analyse various faults with the concept of CSR. A problem that I came across early in my research and reading was that motives for businesses to engage in CSR are very often not pure. Many businesses use CSR in order to claim their social licence to operate. As the CSR activity often makes them seem legitimate and responsible, it gives managers an opportunity to hide and disguise the activities of the corporation. This is the ... Yet, while Carter has power over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s principle or the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as demonstrated by their power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated nicely by the film, power may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate the matter such is often determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding power. One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of power in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I believe it is through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to instill a sense of belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the narrative against the kids of Richmond High School. The three physical implementations are: 1.Direct sequence spread spectrum radio (DSSS) in the 2.4 GHz band, 2.Frequency hopping spread spectrum radio (FHSS) in the 2.4 GHz band, and 3.Infrared light (IR). All of the implementations support data rates of 1 Mb/s and, optionally, 2 Mb/s. The 802.11 working group is currently considering additions to the standard that will provide higher data rates (5.5 and 11 Mb/s) in the 2.4 GHz band and additions that will allow wireless LANs to operate in a 5 GHz band. Acceptance of the standard for higher data rates in the 2.4 GHz band is expected in October of 1998. Need For WLANs One characteristic of the IT industry is that it tends to over hype new technology while ignoring the applicable lessons taught by older technologies many of which were over hyped in their day. Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology, specifically the 802.11 family of standards, is a current case in point. Yes, it can be very useful and when deployed properly, very convenient. A wireless networkcan be used to solve all sorts of tricky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Women Athletic Trainers in the NFL Women in the National Football League The NFL is a man s world where each and every man is out on the field to show off his athleticism. Every aspect of the game, whether it is on the field or on the side lines, is predominately male. However, there is an area of the NFL that women could become a part of. Women could become athletic trainers for the NFL. An athletic trainer is a health care specialist that focuses on prevention of injury and rehab to recuperate athletes (Summary). Currently there are no women employed in the NFL although one womanused to work for the Pittsburgh Steelers (Mihoces). There are many people that agree that women should be able to work in the NFL, but there are also many people that do not believe women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is unnerving to have a woman in the same room while players are showering and changing. It is also awkward for the female athletic trainer to be present when men all around her are changing and showering. A second argument for those who oppose is that women are seen as pushovers in the training room. Stereotypically, women are seen as dainty, elegant people that cannot stand up in an authority position over the gigantic football brutes. Likewise, it is awkward for a female athletic trainer to demonstrate her power over the coach. If the athletic trainer believes that the team needs a water break, it is his or her obligation to inform the coach, and sometimes it can get pretty dicey between the athletic trainer and the coach. Also, if an athletic trainer will not clear a player to be able to return to play, the coach and the athletic trainer can become very argumentative and irrational. If the athletic trainer is female, the coach believes that she will hold grudges like most other females they know. The final argument is that women can be a distraction to the players. If there is a female on the field, the players could get distracted and not be able to focus clearly on the task at hand. Almost following the same line, there is a big hazard potential. Sexual harassment is a big issue in any work environment, but imagine how much more of a hazard this would be. The hazard potential of sexual harassment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Saltwater Experiment Fresh water is less dense than salt water, which causes fresh water to accumulate on the top surface of the salt water. In the brine experiment, I concluded that freshwater has a density of 1.0 g/ml and salt water has a density of 1.025g/ml. After removing the cups of salt water and freshwater from the freezer it was evident that the freshwater was frozen throughout, however the salt water had a layer of water below the freezing fresh water. Salt water freezes at a lower temperature than fresh water. As fresh water freezes, it forces the salt out. When seawater freezes, the salt is forced out of the ice in a process called brine exclusion . Therefore, sea ice is essentially fresh water (Worster, 1992). The removed salt increases the salinity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dense, cooler, and usually nutrient rich water moves towards the ocean surface, replacing the warmer, usually nutrient depleted surface water (Vizcarra, 2015). Changes in the force and direction of ocean currents will affect the availability of nutrients. The top layer of the ocean collects the warmth and energy of sunlight, while the bottom layers collect the rich, nutrient filled sediment of decayed plant and animal matter (Vizcarra, 2015). These nutrients are carried by the conveyor belt to other ocean regions and supply nutrient rich materials to areas that would have low amounts of nutrients if the thermohaline circulation didn t exist. Ocean life is dependent on these nutrients for sustainment. It would lead to an imbalance or even destruction of certain food chains. Before sinking, the water absorbs enormous amounts of gases such as carbon dioxide at the ocean surface, and then transports them to greater depths (Vizcarra, 2015). Marine plants use dissolved carbon dioxide, sunlight, and water to make carbohydrates through the process of photosynthesis. This process releases oxygen into the water. All marine organisms use oxygen for respiration. If thermohaline circulation is changed it will affect the amount of these gases that are available and essential for the survival of marine ... • 47. Social Class Hierarchies In Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw On the surface, the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw is a modernized, real life spin off of the Greek myth of Pygmalion, in which a sculptor falls in love with a statue that he has carved. One can easily argue that Professor Higgins plays the role of the sculptor, as he molds Eliza, the statue, into something more desirable throughout the entirety of the play. However, when digging deeper into the text through the use of close reading, I found that the play itself outlined and symbolized the differences in social classhierarchies. In fact, I think that the text was a medium that the author used to display a social experiment, and highlight the advantages and disadvantages that the changing of social hierarchies is able to provide. The play opens with a dark, rainy scene that introduces the majority of the main characters right away. Eliza, referred to as the Flower Girl is initially depicted as a ragged, grimy individual hopelessly trying to sell flowers to people leaving a theater after a show. Nearby, Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering are depicted as well dressed, stable individuals that are referred to as the Note Taker and the Gentleman respectively. In this particular scene, I think that Shaw does a great job of showing upfront differences in social structure, as the Flower Girl is representative of the poorer, lower class community, while the Note Taker and the Gentleman are displaying the wealthier upper class. The fact that the two social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. French And Indian War Turning Point Essay The French and Indian War Turning Point During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the end of salutary neglect, and self government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life was good. Things were simple in Britain s relationship with the colonies, they traded with each other and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed to trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace, there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self government, so they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Robespierre, The French Revolution And The Symbol Of Evil... Those people of the past that are studied as historical figures major and minor make up a virtually insignificant portion of the people that have inhabited the earth since the beginning of civilization. And yet to die without a memorable legacy is much more desirable a fate than to be remembered with enduring hatred for what one accomplished and stood for during life. Certainly, there are many who deserve to be remembered with spite people whose beliefs and actions were unacceptable whether evaluated in a modern context or that of their own period. And yet still some are hated for centuries, mainly due to having made powerful enemies while alive. Maximilien Robespierre, who is often regarded as the leading figure of the French Revolutionand the symbol of violent excess during that period, was one such person. Although the view of Robespierre within the historical community has softened (to a certain degree), he remains a personification of evil in the public mind. For example, the first result of a quick Google search for most evil people includes a list of 25 historical figures, with Robespierre at no. 17, ahead of others such as Adolf Eichmann, Heinrich Himmler, and Osama bin Laden. While this website is by no means a scholarly source, it serves to underline the way in which the average person views Robespierre in a grossly inaccurate fashion. The legacy that was created for Robespierre by political opponents who used him as a scapegoat is not at all one that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
