For Hearing People Only
1. What do you think of speech reading or lip reading? What are your thoughts on this topic? Do all
deaf people know how?I think that speech or lip reading is something that should never be expected
out of anyone, deaf or hearing. I do not think that a person s mouth can be understood without sound
coming out of it. There are too many different ways of saying things; lip shapes are different; lip
movements are different; people enunciate words differently therefore causing different facial
movements. I would personally never approach someone with the question of Can you read my lips?
Deaf people are not lip readers but some could be considered as speech readers, that of which they are
looking at all facial expressions and body movements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that I am taking this ASL class, I have been better educated with many different aspects of Deaf
culture and the Deaf community. However, if you are in the media world I do believe that they should
know better since they are more exposed to all kinds of different cultures. Hopefully, with time and
better education of society in general, the offensive words will gradually fade away.4. What are
advantages and disadvantages of deaf people using hearing aids or cochlear implants? What are your
thoughts on both of these devices? The advantage of hearing aids is that they can pick up some sounds
which make a deaf person feel more aware of what is going on. There are digital aids that can be
programmed to pick up the frequencies of speech but these are designed for users with moderate
deafness. The disadvantage of hearing (digital) aids is that severely or profoundly deaf people do not
benefit from digital aids. Others feel that they are uncomfortable and they do not like wearing
them.Hearing aids have been accepted as part of the Deaf culture because they are removable and they
do not involve invasive surgery. The advantage of having a cochlear implant would be that is allows
the recipient to hear a wider variety of sounds and possibly develop better speech patterns however, it
is unknown what the long range effects of this device may do to the tissue and nerves of

Comparing The Ptolemaic View Of The Five Platonic Solids
The Ptolemaic view of the motions of the stars was earth centric, or geocentric. Ptolemy believed that
all the planets revolved around the earth, the earth was the center of the universe. Copernicus on the
other hand held the belief that the universe revolved around the sun, or that the universe was
heliocentric. Copernicus also only considered there to only be six planets, as he didn t count the moon
like Ptolemy. Kepler held similar beliefs t Copernicus, and believed that the reason why a god created
universe only had six planets instead of seven was based on Plato s idea of the five Platonic Solids.
That just like there are only five forms of matter and five platonic solids, the universe must have been
intelligently created in a similar

Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology
Mr. Ray Kurzweil, renowned inventor and author of The Singularity is Near, wrote in 2001 that
technological progress was increasing twofold every decade, We won t experience 100 years of
progress in the 21st century it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today s rate) (qtd. in
Berman and Dorrier). We are only in the beginning of the 21st century and yet technology is
advancing faster than our ability to adapt! Technology has given society convenience and a higher
standard of living with the creation of the internet, smartphones, increasingly useful robots, and
artificial intelligence that learns (Rosoff). In the past couple of decades, continued integration of
technology in society has dramatically increased, resulting in significant problems with respect to
invasion of privacy and loss of basic freedoms. Technology has enabled governments and large
corporations to collect personal data. Facial recognition and surveillance technology are being used
for more than just security. Although this rise in technology has provided society with many different
freedoms and benefits, technology will eventually lead to a society with little or no freedom.
Reporting your Data In the beginning, technological progress increased personal freedoms.
Technological advances in machinery freed workers from the burden of repetitive and boring tasks
that could be done more efficiently and reliably by a machine. The creation of search engines in the

The Servant Labor System In Colonial America
During the seventeenth century, the colonists confronted poverty epidemic by creating the servant
labor system in which indentured servants and slaves provided labor work that directly and positively
affected the colonial economy. Although servants and slaves were the main source in keeping the
economic system of colonial America steady, they had such low social standings that Colonies and
masters had become accustomed to abusing and mistreating them. In addition, in 1669, a law had been
passed that enabled masters, free white men, to legally hunt and murder slaves if a rebellion were to
occur ( Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, in Handout Set, p. 3). This law, along with many more in
Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, allowed masters to remain dominant over servants and slaves which
historically is the root for the racial ideology of white supremacy and created countless racial equality
rebellions and movements. During this time, slaves were put up to be auctioned and once they were
sold, they lived the rest of their lives providing labor for their masters. Due to such entitlement,
masters would take advantage of it along with the laws being passed to profit off their servants and
slaves. According to a particular law that had in been passed in 1662, it states ...Be it therefore enacted
and declared... that all children borne in this country shalbe held bond [slave] or free only according to
the condition of the mother ( Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, in Handout Set, p.

Mass and Kinetic Energy Essay
Disk With Weight:
A 15 kg uniform disk of radius R = 0.25 m has a string wrapped around it, and a m = 3 kg weight is
hanging on the string. The system of the weight and disk is released from rest.
a) When the 3 kg weight is moving with a speed of 2.2 m/s, what is the kinetic energy of the entire
system? KETOT = KEwheel+KEweight = (1/2)(I)(w2)+(1/2)(m*v2) =(0.5* v2)(m+1/2M) =0.5*
(2.2^2)*(3+(.5*15)) J
b) If the system started from rest, how far has the weight fallen? H = KETOT/MG = 0.5*(2.2^2)*(3+

40.0 kg attached at one end and an unknown mass m1 attached at the other. The beam has a length of
L = 3 m, it is in static equilibrium, and it is horizontal, as shown in the figure above. The tension in the

I Want to Become a Forensic Psychologist
Forensic Psychologist
Shows like Criminal Minds have made the forensics psychologist field progress. What do forensic
psychologist do? Forensic psychologist is the application of the science and profession of psychology
to questions and issues relating to law and the legal system. (An Overview of Forensic Psychology,
2014)The career I want to engage in is forensic psychologist but first you have to learn the work
environment, the education, the earnings, the outlook, the pros, and the cons. With numerous
portrayals in books, movies and television programs, interest in forensic psychology has grown
significantly in recent years. (An Overview of Forensic Psychology, 2014)
The work environment of forensic psychologist varies widely. Working hours are typically nine to
five, with some flexibility required. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be necessary.
(Forensic Psychologist, 2012) Most of the time you will always be on the call. Being on call means at
any time you could get a call and have to drop what you are doing and go tend to what the call was
about. As a trainee you are supervised then as time progresses and you progress the supervision
becomes less. Forensic psychologist work not only with prisoners and offenders but also with other
professionals involved in the judicial penal systems, and with victims of crime. (Forensic

The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian
When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies
protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open
minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as
an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The
reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related.
Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout
their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat
consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my
own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy
lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I
believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier
lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly
developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time.
Reasons For and Against Vegetarianism: Why a vegetarian diet is superior
I would like to discuss some of the articles I researched to gain a better understanding of the health
and moral aspects, as well as discuss the

Assignment 2 Met Essay
1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why?
A temperature inversion is most likely to form on a calm night. Windy nights are not ideal for an
inversion to occur since an inversion is considered a stable layer of atmosphere as well as due to the
wind mixing the air to even out the density, remembering cold air is denser than warm air so it will
flow downhill and pool in a valley.
2. What are the various methods used to protect sensitive crops from damaging low temperatures?
Explain why each method works.
Various methods to help protect sensitive crops include:

Essay Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour
Comparing The Awakening and Story of an Hour
The heroine, Mrs. P, has some carries some characteristics parallel to Louise Mallard in Hour. The
women of her time are limited by cultural convention. Yet, Mrs. P, (like Louise) begins to experience a
new freedom of imagination, a zest for life , in the immediate absence of her husband. She realizes,
through interior monologues, that she has been held back, that her station in life cannot and will not
afford her the kind of freedom to explore freely and openly the emotions that are as much a part of her
as they are not a part of Leonce. Here is a primary irony.
Also, the rhetoric Chopin uses is full of contradictions from the beginning. not only that, but there are

The relatively open and honest (less suppressed)culture of the Creoles is one which catalyzes her
human sensibilities. Who could blame her? Especially Madame Ratignolle, and the way Chopin
describes her sensuousness and warmth, would be compelling features it seems for anyone to be
attracted to and to want, almost unconsciously, to emulate. Second, the attentive nature of Robert
LeBrun is so marked and attractive when compared with Leonce s domineering, controlling, even
neglectful ways in which he treats (and does not treat) his family, (but with a measure of trying to
placate them as the result of his own selfishness at Klein s). When he wins, he forgets all about the
candy and peanuts he promised his children. With Edna, he is talkative, but not attentive. Still, though,
Edna is culturally in over her head when it comes to the sensual honesty and astonishingly implicit
trust of these men to let their wives do what they do at this time in history. Thus far, I see an ostensibly
lethal combination of Mme R and Robert working, however innocently in Edna s life.
A more obvious trigger for her sensual nature is Mlle Reisz, who upon playing for her at the
beginning, affords that pictures be conjured up in Edna s mind as she plays. After the reinforcement of
Robert s affections upon her, continuing to impart obsession into her mind, Mlle R s playing hits the
very core of her being, and we see that indeed her body and soul

The Impact Of Buddhism On Women And Our Advancement
When I primarily began this essay, I was oblivious to how significant of an impact Buddhism has had
on women and our advancement as a gender, specifically in religion. Upon further exploration of
women in the Buddhism religion, it was quite obvious that the religion is practiced very differently
from society to society, but at the end of it all, there is no denying the implication Buddhism has had
on females and our spiritual roles. By contrast to bigoted practices that impede spiritual development,
Buddhism can be claimed to be the least discriminatory towards women. My goal of this paper is to
illustrate how the Buddhism religion has altered the female role in religion, yet still maintains bigoted
stereotypes, within very many different societies and communities.
Women have been a part of Buddhism since it began in Northeast India in 6th century BC, by a man
named Gautama Buddha. The religion of Buddhism does not involve any theistic world view,
therefore Buddha was not a god. The teachings of Buddha are designed exclusively to liberate
emotional beings from misery. There is no doubt that Buddha was the first religious leader to give
women equal opportunities in the field of spiritual development. Looking back to the very beginning
of the religion, many of Buddha s wisest and most capable disciples were laywomen and nuns.
Originally, Buddha had expelled women from monastic practice, but eventually overturned his
decision, therefore permitting them to practice in

Animal Rights: What Everyone Needs to Know Book Analysis Animal Rights: What Everyone Needs
to Know is a book written by Paul Waldau, president of the Religion and Animals Institute but also a
former director of the Center for Animals and Public Policy. Waldau is an author with experience in
studying animal law and the treatment of animals. He served as lecturer at the Harvard Law School,
regarding animal law, four times between 2002 2010. His book describes the many different issues
presented in animal testing and the animal rights movement and how these issues are regarded in
society. The General Information chapter discusses what is meant by animal rights and which animals
are included in the animal rights movement. The animal rights movement questions whether enforcing
and enacting animal rights is a moral issue or a legal one. The author calls for the readers to have an

Using Hammurabi s Code as an example, the author describes the relationship between humans and
animals as owner and property. As stated by Hammurabi s Code, domesticated animals were valuable
property and were subject to use by humans. Justinian s code is also referenced, allowing humans
access to any animal that is captured. These prehistoric codes have shaped the mindset of many,
leading humans to believe in a natural superiority over animals. This superiority has reduced the status
of animals from living, breathing, wildlife, to simple property. Per the Laws chapter, this superior
mindset is not a new concept.
This tendency to subordinate the natural world is not news to anyone today...this approach in legal
systems are matched by the long history of some powerful humans treating other, less powerful
humans as personal property that could be owned.

Rites Of Passage, Right Or Wrong
Rites of Passage, Right or Wrong ? Throughout history the term rights of passage has been used to
describe the transition of a person into a new stage of their lives. Rites of passage are relevant in every
day life all over the world. Most prominently though, Africa has a large population of people whose
groups still practice traditional rites of passage to mark special life achievements. Basically, anything
meaningful that happens within their tribe such as the birth of a child, the entrance into adulthood,
marriage, death, and so on, are all celebrated with the completion of different customs. The
celebration of rituals include dances, songs, and other formalities, however groups across the
continent also use varying methods of initiation that most commonly include circumcision in both
sexes. For decades, people have questioned whether or not this traditional initiation ritual is necessary
and if it could possibly be harmful to young people within certain tribes that practice them. Much
controversy surrounds the issue of following tradition even while performing procedures such as
female mutilation. How are these rites of passage viewed as beneficial and how are they seen as
destructive? What are some alternative rites of passage for these young initiates? A rite of passage, in
African culture, is a ceremonial event in which a person enters into a new stage of their life(Haley,
McNaughton, Moss, Sallah and Wilson 3). Many of the traditional rituals and ceremonies

The Colonization Of New England
If you wanted to record the beginning of English colonist history in North America, you would have to
begin with the settlements of New England. The English colonists had to endure the ecological
challenges of New England, oppose to the conditions they were accustomed to in England. They also
had to coexist with the original inhabitants of the lands the Native American Indians for information
on techniques of agriculture for proper sustainability, and for trade pur poses. English colonists had to
obtain knowledge from Native Americans along with learning from trial and error to master the
ecological challenges they faced while establishing settlements within New England. Coping with
environmental challenges to facilitate survival on the day to day basis was the first hurdle the English
colonists had to overcome. The ultimate goal of the colonists was after mastering the terrain of New
England was to distinguish the natural commod ities of the region to obtain maximum production of
resources for profit to themselves and the mother country of Great Britain.
Before English colonists settled into the New England area the only human inhabitants that could ve

The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing
Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be
logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing
are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other techniques
that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays.
One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea
and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that are
irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent.
In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences are
usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in the
documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main ideas
that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and each of
these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the conclusion.
However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive.
The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first.
Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this structure
requires to put research findings first and then the process. However,

Human History Literacy Rates Have Continued Essay
Human history literacy rates have continued to hike. Children now attend school than at any other
point in history. Although nations have made immense progress, many are still far from reaching the
universal goals of education. The importance of early education cannot be emphasized enough. As
famous scholars had noted in human history, education is the precondition for success and
unconstrained prospects. Educated citizens are the foundation for a nation s sustainable economic and
social development (Park 23). According to a study done by UNESCO and World Bank, currently
there are over 400 million children at the elementary level who are not attending school. Even the rest
of the millions who are attending schools are not being prepared adequately for life after school.
Solving these problems ought to be the utmost goal for any nation. As a parent, one cannot fail to see
how important education is for a child. As a politician, one recognizes the importance of having a
government with highly equipped labor force. Transforming education, however is not an easy task
bearing in mind that there are challenges everywhere from the shortage of teachers, resources and use
of inadequate curricula. It is therefore imperative that nations rise and act consequently before they
expose another generation to the same problems (Awa Plaumann 101). This paper shall carefully
examine early childhood education and the effectiveness of the universal interventions made globally.

Power And Control In The Visit By Frank Durrenmatt
Well known writer, Friedrich Durrenmatt, in his drama, The Visit, conveys the idea in which Claire
Zachanassian embodies aggregate power and control, and she uses those features to dehumanize the
people of Gullen throughout the play. Durrenmatt s purpose is to illustrate that money can buy power,
and power is what leads to all disorder and chaos. He adopts a striking and staggering tone in order to
express how humanity is so easily purchased by mere paper. Claire Zachanassian symbolizes power
by frightening and intimidating the people of Gullen into doing her bidding and dirty work. Claire

When Claire, and Koby and Loby are talking to the butler about what happened to the two men, they
stated, The lady tracked us down, the lady tracked us down. She gave us to Toby and Roby. She gave

doing this, Claire shows that her money can justly buy anything, literally. Because The Pair lied to the
court many years before about falsely sleeping with her, she decided to make them pay. When she
figured out she was pregnant, she was confused and helpless. Alfred Ill, supposedly, put Koby and
Loby up to a bet offering the two money if they lied and said that they slept with Claire. When this
statement from the two men was put into question, everyone in town turned against Claire and

Personality Big Five Model Solved Case
TEAM ASSIGNMENT #1: Case Study Astral Marketing 42.211 B
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main problem Astral Marketing is experiencing is a low level of
productivity, mainly due to employee dissatisfaction and low levels of employee motivation.
Employees are currently unhappy with wages and incentives, as well as general working conditions at
the company. As a result, employees are becoming unmotivated. Issues such as poor communication
skills, lack of employee empowerment, high turnover, and too low or too high mental stimulation also
have a direct impact on the low level of productivity (Robbins Langton 2001) The four potential
solutions to Astral Marketing s low productivity include: the formation of a union, team building
training, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Procedural justice the perceived fairness of the process used to determine the distribution of rewards is
also defied by the company (Robbins Langton 2001, p. 170). Company records show only one or two
workers per week (have gotten) the $20 bonus over the past six months (Schweitzer, p.3). The concept
of procedural justice is also challenged through inequitable contract distribution (assuming it can be
regulated) at the company. Since the contracts are of broad range, some contracts are more difficult to
promote than others are, and the set wages and bonuses do not reflect this inequality (Schweitzer
2002). Another issue is poor communication skills, which result in both a lack of respect for
supervisors and a poor level of colleague support. Having friendly and supportive co workers leads to
increased job satisfaction , similar to the behaviour of one s manager (Robbins Langton 2001, p.108).
The employees at Astral Marketing, however, have poor relations with their supervisors, likely
because the supervisors are not trained on how to deal with workers as people (Schweitzer 2002, p.1).
There are also poor relations between employees due to a lack of support and understanding
(Schweitzer 2002). Poor communication skills also contribute to the lack of employee empowerment
at Astral Marketing. Empowerment, or giving employees responsibility for what

Protein Phosphatase Receptor Analysis
Its function is regulated by dopaminergic and glutaminergic receptors. When stimulated by
dopaminergic receptors it is a potent inhibitor of PP1α (Hemmings, 1984). In contrast, when
stimulated by glutaminergic receptors, the inhibitory activity of DARPP 32 against PP1 is reduced
(Halpain, 1990). DARPP 32 is regulated by brain derived neurotropic factor as well as the Akt
pathway and CDK5/p35 pathway (Stroppolo, 2001) (Bogush, 2007).
Protein Phosphatase Inhibitor 2 Protein Phosphatase Inhibitor 2 (I 2) I 2 is a heat stable protein that
can inhibit the catalytic subunits of PP1 (Huang, 1976). When unphosphorylated I 2 is inhibitory to
PP1c however, phosphorylation of I 2 can induce PP1c activity (Cohen 2002). It has been shown to be
important in cell cycle regulation and is found at the centrosomes during interphase (Eto, 2002). The
consensus as to the purpose of I 2 is to act as a regulator of PP1 to control the kinase/PP1 balance and
activate different cellular events. It has also been shown to play a role in tubulin acetylation in the
cilium of retinal epithelial cells. Wang and Brautigan showed that I 2 localizes to the cilium of human
retinal epithelial cells with PP1. RNAi knockdown of I 2 showed ... Show more content on

In order to answer the question from the introduction How do such a small number of phosphatases
regulate the phosphorylation of thousands of proteins while also allowing each protein to be regulated
independently? PP1 has evolved mechanisms to bind numerous different subunits in order to function
the way it needs. There are many more regulatory subunits than discussed above. The subunits
discussed above are the major subunits involved in PP1 dynamics. It is a near certainty that more
regulatory subunits will be discovered. If PP1 could only form a complex with one subunit at a time
there are ~42 different holoenzyme structures possible with the subunits discussed

Starbucks On Clemson University Campus
On Monday, October 17 from one p.m. until two p.m. I observed people s behavior in Starbucks on
Clemson University campus. The majority of the population consisted of students most likely ranging
from eighteen years old to twenty four years old. This time of day seemed to be particularly busy, and
from where I was sitting I observed human behavior as they interacted within the space. The room
itself had an ordering area, an area to gather while waiting for your drink, and then multiple seating
arrangements, such as booths, high tables, large tables, and small tables. Even with all the furniture the
space had little obstructions, making it easy to oversee activity. People s interaction with others
depended greatly on whether or not they were with other people. If someone was alone they did not sit
at a table that had four or more chairs, instead they would opt for a table that was made for two
people. Pairs of people meeting each other at the location hugged, but when saying goodbye, they
simply walked away, not stopping to give a farewell. Groups tended to consist of younger students,
while individuals were more likely to be older students. While waiting to order their drink groups
would talk loudly, but upon sitting each individual would pull out something to occupy them and all
talking ceased. The talking amongst others in line gained the attention of people sitting down,
especially those that were sitting alone. If a group looked up at people talking in line there

Assimilation In The Joy Luck Club
Adaptation is the adjustment to one s surrounding conditions. Many animals experience this through
physical and behavioral changes based on new obstacles they may face in their environments. They
could be surrounded by new species of predatory animals or sources of food that require a new set of
skills. Similarly, this can be experienced by humans as well. When a person finds themself in a new
place they may need to change in order to survive. In Amy Tan s fiction novel, The Joy Luck Club,
immigrant Chinese mothers share their life stories from back in China, their journies to the states, and
the relationships with their American born daughters. They learn a new language, society and overall
way of life. However, assimilation into the American culture dramatically separates the connection
between the mother s and their daughters. The mother s lost themselves on their way to the United
States and must deal with the negative realities of their American born children, and see their
daughters drifting further away from their culture. As the mothers immigrated to the United States,
they had undergone identity changes that would separate themselves from their Chinese cultures.
Some identity changes are miniscule, yet left an impact on the mother s. Adjusting to the expectations
set upon them during immigration made them present their westernized side. Many were reduced to
being just students, displaced immigrants, or war brides. Immigrating women were not viewed as

The Electric Car A Viable Sustainable Replacement For An...
Is the electric car a viable sustainable replacement for an ICE car?
The electric car is not, by any means, a new concept. The electric car was first introduced in the 19th
century, but as oil was more plentiful and much cheaper than electricity, the internal combustion
engine came to the forefront of the transportation sector.1 Now, as oil reserves around the globe have
reached the lowest since 1973 and gas prices the world over are soaring,1 the world has turned back to
the electric car.1 The electric car was endorsed by the United States Government in 2009 as a
promising alternative to petroleum in the transportation sector , and 2.1 billion dollars has been
allocated to subsidies for battery and component manufacturers.3 Despite ... Show more content on

Theme Of Vertigo By Paul Austers Mr Vertigo
To fight through downfall I was twelve years old the first time I walked on water is the first line in
Paul Austers Mr. Vertigo, a book about a child s dream and the journey to reach them. The book takes
place in America at 1927 where a young boy named Walt is approached by a strange man, called
Master Yehudi and is offered a chance in a lifetime, the ability to fly. As he goes with him he chooses
a difficult path that will bring both wonders and despair. This is a book telling about a boys big
ambition to overcome all hardship that lives throws in his way. The ability to overcome hardship can
be seen through the protagonist personality, his ambition to reach greatness. He was a nobody, a
nothing, so when he is offered the chance to achieve something greater he takes it. Not like a bird, my
little man. Like a god. You d be the wonder of wonders, Walt, the holy of holies. As long as men
walked the earth, they d worship you as the greatest among them. (Auster 74). He has an ambition so
extraordinary and he is willing to do anything to reach his goal, suffer through hardship so repulsing
that no human ever should need to go through. He got buried alive, cuts of a part of his finger and so
many inhuman things, but he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

success is his success and his downfall is his downfall. He cannot longer stand how Dean keeps falling

Intern At A Rose Garden Florist
This summer I had the opportunity to intern at A Rose Garden Florist. With this internship I had goals
set in mind that I wanted to accomplish; these goals consisted of being able to identify plants when I
see them, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of a garden, the different care needs for plants, ways
to preserve plants, and for growing them. Digging a hole, putting a seed into it then refilling the dirt
and watering it was the only way I thought you could grow something. This summer I found out that
you can in fact place seeds between two wet paper towels and they will start to sprout and once they
have you can plant them into the ground and they will continue to grow. I feel this is a much better
way to start out plants because you have it started before you put them into the ground and can have
an idea of how many will fully grow. However, in order for them to be able to grow in the area in
which you plant them there should be no weeds to choke them out; this is where being able to tell a
difference in plants can come in rather handy. While weeding out a garden it is important to know the
difference between the weeds and new sprouts of plants you put in a couple weeks before. It is also
very beneficial to pull the weeds out as close to their roots as possible so that they will not reappear; if
you only pull off what you see above ground you will have a weed problem indefinitely and your
plants could struggle greatly while trying to thrive due to the weeds

Judicial Originality And The Legal System
Topic 2
By: Raylen White
Judicial originality is the most fundamental principle in the legal system. Judicial originality to me
means being able to make a decision based off the effects. If a judge has had a case in the past similar
to a current one, the judge can base his current decision using the same discretion or rule he used
before. Dworkin wrote a paper about this, he argues that judges should not be able to create laws
through the effect of their decisions. He has two arguments about why judicial originality is not a good
thing for society. In this paper I will talk about these arguments and if Dworkin has the right to claim
that this argument has no force against it. The first argument he had against judicial originality was
that a community should be govern by men and women who are elected by and responsible to the
majority. This means that most judges are not elected by a wide spread of the community, and if they
could make their own laws they would not benefit the community. It is important that the community
has a say on what should be a law and what should not be a law. If judges were to make laws that
would be a contradiction to the theory of separation of powers. It would seem to be that judges are
analogous to the legislature, which in fact, they are not because the legislature is elected. Policy
decisions must therefore be made through the operation of some political process designed to produce
an accurate expression of the different interest that

Ruby s first lesson in survival is a list consisting of seven fundamental rules of survival ranging from
DON T GO OUT IN THE RAIN (68) to DON T EAT ANYTHING THAT S BEEN OUTSIDE (69).
These guidelines are essential to survival, but what seems to be the most effective is the rule simply
labeled THINK (70). This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby takes into account the most
insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated into her routine and she commits
herself to thinking before she acts a habit that saves her life on multiple occasions. Ruby picks up on
this change herself, stating late in that book that she didn t just look and decide Hey, it s not raining let

Ruby learned that even she cannot bend and bow to the needs of all. When faced with obstacles such
as infected citizens, Ruby realizes that the sole sound way to safely surmount them is to protect her
party. Such a scenario is shown when she is promised water by a haphazard group stationed at a public
pool. Upon arrival, drunkards soak an innocent man using tainted water, infecting him. He then falls
directly into the pool, subsequently tainting the large body of water. In order to avoid being infected,
she gathers her party into a supply closet and locks the door, ultimately condemning all on the
opposite side of the barrier. Though charitable, Ruby s compassion has a limit, and that limit is
reached when the lives of her party are endangered and her instincts take control. Hereafter, she uses
her honed survival skills to guide her team to their final destination with necessary

The Big Bang Theory And Evolution

A young man who is a senior in college has the opportunity of a lifetime to conduct research with

teachers are not even allowed to teach about the Biblical creation theory of how Earth was made. They

Emile Durkheim, Franz Boas, And Clifford Geertz Summary
Emile Durkheim, Franz Boas, and Clifford Geertz were three very influential men in the study of
anthropology. Durkheim became one of the first scientists to consider culture and society worthy of
study, Boas refined and corrected theories hypothesized by Durkheim and others, and Geertz set an
example of how to conduct ethnographies that is still used to this day. Emile Durkheim lived during
the rise of the British Empire and the Industrial Revolution. These changes in his own society made
him question the origin of state and the evolution of social complexity (Moore, 2000). To answer these
questions, Durkheim believed that all societies should be studied through scientific research
methodology, because Durkheim viewed sociology as the science of societies (p. 43). Through this
method, Durkheim developed a variety of hypotheses about society and its evolution; there were two
forms of social integration, mechanical and organic solidarity. Mechanical solidarity was a
homogeneous society with individuals resembling each other in their positions in society and in their
values and views, creating a conscience collective. In an organic solidarity society, each member of
society is more of an individual, each playing a different role but ultimately under the control of a
central organ (p. 47). Societies naturally transition from a mechanical solidarity society to an organic
solidarity society, according to Durkheim, gradually losing the homogeneity, conscience collective,

The Death Of Artemio Cruz
The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life
and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and
economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will

The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our

My culture has a low type of a power distance. In my country also, people are considered to be
superior because of their wealth because people have a thinking that a person who is rich, has more
power . The way the people greet their parents is by sayin mom or dad . In my culture, that is New
Delhi s culture which is also like the culture of almost my whole country that when a decision is to be
made,it is usually made by the mother and father together,i.e. mutual decision is made.

Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property
Trust in Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures to
further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has been
suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry based on
known parameters that include
the use of critical equipment,
management of critical data,
respect for privacy,
security and longevity of information,
And the protection of intellectual property.
Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the
ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line
between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure privacy is
by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores and some
providers are already employing this method.
Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York
schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a
plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational
institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and
dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). They became the
target for many

Analysis Of The Raft Of Medusa
What s so great about this artwork? How can a photo give a sense of emotion? This is all questions the
painting; the raft of medusa answers. Theodore Gericault uses smart angels and pigmentation of
different bland of colors to give different sense of emotion from just one painting.
The question as a novelist Julian Barnes asked, how do you turn catastrophe into art? to understand
this artwork, we must look back to the origin of the painting. The raft of the medusa was one of the
most important masterpieces of the 19th century. As it was one of the earliest well known romantic
painting. What makes it important is how the artist Theodore Gericault came to paint such a
confronting image but before I go on, there is a backstory to understand what motivated him to pursue
such a painting. Theodore Gericault came from a wealthy French family and shows for his vocation in
life to be an artist. He left France to gain some inspiration from Rome, while away he missed all the
news on the scandal of the event. The event which lead to the raft of the medusa was the captain of the
ship. Who was given the job of leading the ship not for his skills but because of his royal connections
as he was the king s representative. The captain was more interested in impressing the soon to be
governor of Senegal. The shipwreck would ve never have happened if he did not try to impress the
governor. The captain pushed the crew to move to fast and along the shore. Bad idea as the medusa

Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale
To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the
Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm; however,
it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the Wife of Bath
s Tale tapped into a strong topic gender equality it only stated that women want to be equal to men as
well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand: a knight who raped a
girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife. If the story went
differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story. Meanwhile, the Pardoner s
Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that humans have, as well as the
consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is
better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into the darkness of humanity, the consequences
when one has dug themselves too deep and shows how, despite people knowing the result of their
misconduct, will still choose to sink further into darkness. They were after an honourable cause at
first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they
dropped everything and easily surrendered their minds to greed. In lines 166 169, it states, No longer
was it Death those fellows sought, for they were all so thrilled to see the

Smoking Is Bad For The Body
Did you know that three out of four teens in high school admit to doing or being addicted to drugs? A
majority of the teenagers today will more than likely face short or long term health issues from the
usage of drugs, preferably marijuana. What kind of short and long term health issues you may ask?
Well short term health issues would include drowsiness/relaxation; slowed reaction time; problems
with balance and coordination; increased heart rate and appetite; problems with learning and memory;
hallucinations; anxiety and panic attacks! On the other hand we have long term health issues which
include mental health problems, chronic cough, frequent respiratory infections. Smoking weed is a
problem among teenagers today that tend to take on health issues in the body such as danger to the
adolescent brain, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, lung irritation and reproduction effects. One reason
smoking weed is bad for the body is because it causes damage to the adolescent brain. The brain is the
command center of you body. It weighs about three pounds and has different centers or systems that
process different kinds of information. THC in marijuana affects the way that sensory information is
processed. THC is up to no good in the brain. THC finds brain cells, or neurons, with specific kinds of
receptors called cannabinoid receptors. Then, it binds to those receptors (Elaine Gottlleb, 2016).
Certain parts of the brain have high concentrations of cannabinoid receptors. These

  • 2. For Hearing People Only 1. What do you think of speech reading or lip reading? What are your thoughts on this topic? Do all deaf people know how?I think that speech or lip reading is something that should never be expected out of anyone, deaf or hearing. I do not think that a person s mouth can be understood without sound coming out of it. There are too many different ways of saying things; lip shapes are different; lip movements are different; people enunciate words differently therefore causing different facial movements. I would personally never approach someone with the question of Can you read my lips? Hopefully, with time and better education of society in general, the offensive words will gradually fade away.4. What are advantages and disadvantages of deaf people using hearing aids or cochlear implants? What are your thoughts on both of these devices? The advantage of hearing aids is that they can pick up some sounds which make a deaf person feel more aware of what is going on. There are digital aids that can be programmed to pick up the frequencies of speech but these are designed for users with moderate deafness. The disadvantage of hearing (digital) aids is that severely or profoundly deaf people do not benefit from digital aids. Others feel that they are uncomfortable and they do not like wearing them.Hearing aids have been accepted as part of the Deaf culture because they are removable and they do not involve invasive surgery. The advantage of having a cochlear implant would be that is allows the recipient to hear a wider variety of sounds and possibly develop better speech patterns however, it is unknown what the long range effects of this device may do to the tissue and nerves of ... Copernicus on the other hand held the belief that the universe revolved around the sun, or that the universe was heliocentric. Copernicus also only considered there to only be six planets, as he didn t count the moon like Ptolemy. Kepler held similar beliefs t Copernicus, and believed that the reason why a god created universe only had six planets instead of seven was based on Plato s idea of the five Platonic Solids. Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology Mr. Ray Kurzweil, renowned inventor and author of The Singularity is Near, wrote in 2001 that technological progress was increasing twofold every decade, We won t experience 100 years of progress in the 21st century it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today s rate) (qtd. in Berman and Dorrier). We are only in the beginning of the 21st century and yet technology is advancing faster than our ability to adapt! Technology has given society convenience and a higher standard of living with the creation of the internet, smartphones, increasingly useful robots, and artificial intelligence that learns (Rosoff). In the past couple of decades, continued integration of technology in society has dramatically increased, resulting in significant problems with respect to invasion of privacy and loss of basic freedoms. Technology has enabled governments and large corporations to collect personal data. Facial recognition and surveillance technology are being used for more than just security. Although this rise in technology has provided society with many different freedoms and benefits, technology will eventually lead to a society with little or no freedom. Reporting your Data In the beginning, technological progress increased personal freedoms. • 5. The Servant Labor System In Colonial America During the seventeenth century, the colonists confronted poverty epidemic by creating the servant labor system in which indentured servants and slaves provided labor work that directly and positively affected the colonial economy. Although servants and slaves were the main source in keeping the economic system of colonial America steady, they had such low social standings that Colonies and masters had become accustomed to abusing and mistreating them. In addition, in 1669, a law had been passed that enabled masters, free white men, to legally hunt and murder slaves if a rebellion were to occur ( Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, in Handout Set, p. 3). This law, along with many more in Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, allowed masters to remain dominant over servants and slaves which historically is the root for the racial ideology of white supremacy and created countless racial equality rebellions and movements. During this time, slaves were put up to be auctioned and once they were sold, they lived the rest of their lives providing labor for their masters. Due to such entitlement, masters would take advantage of it along with the laws being passed to profit off their servants and slaves. According to a particular law that had in been passed in 1662, it states ...Be it therefore enacted and declared... that all children borne in this country shalbe held bond [slave] or free only according to the condition of the mother ( Virginia Servant and Slave Laws, in Handout Set, p. ... The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related. Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time. Reasons For and Against Vegetarianism: Why a vegetarian diet is superior I would like to discuss some of the articles I researched to gain a better understanding of the health and moral aspects, as well as discuss the ... Especially Madame Ratignolle, and the way Chopin describes her sensuousness and warmth, would be compelling features it seems for anyone to be attracted to and to want, almost unconsciously, to emulate. Second, the attentive nature of Robert LeBrun is so marked and attractive when compared with Leonce s domineering, controlling, even neglectful ways in which he treats (and does not treat) his family, (but with a measure of trying to placate them as the result of his own selfishness at Klein s). When he wins, he forgets all about the candy and peanuts he promised his children. With Edna, he is talkative, but not attentive. • 16. The Impact Of Buddhism On Women And Our Advancement When I primarily began this essay, I was oblivious to how significant of an impact Buddhism has had on women and our advancement as a gender, specifically in religion. Upon further exploration of women in the Buddhism religion, it was quite obvious that the religion is practiced very differently from society to society, but at the end of it all, there is no denying the implication Buddhism has had on females and our spiritual roles. By contrast to bigoted practices that impede spiritual development, Buddhism can be claimed to be the least discriminatory towards women. My goal of this paper is to illustrate how the Buddhism religion has altered the female role in religion, yet still maintains bigoted stereotypes, within very many different societies and communities. Women have been a part of Buddhism since it began in Northeast India in 6th century BC, by a man named Gautama Buddha. The religion of Buddhism does not involve any theistic world view, therefore Buddha was not a god. The teachings of Buddha are designed exclusively to liberate emotional beings from misery. There is no doubt that Buddha was the first religious leader to give women equal opportunities in the field of spiritual development. • 20. The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays. One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent. In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences are usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in the documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the conclusion. However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive. The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first. Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this structure requires to put research findings first and then the process. However, ... Although nations have made immense progress, many are still far from reaching the universal goals of education. The importance of early education cannot be emphasized enough. As famous scholars had noted in human history, education is the precondition for success and unconstrained prospects. Educated citizens are the foundation for a nation s sustainable economic and social development (Park 23). According to a study done by UNESCO and World Bank, currently there are over 400 million children at the elementary level who are not attending school. Even the rest of the millions who are attending schools are not being prepared adequately for life after school. Solving these problems ought to be the utmost goal for any nation. As a parent, one cannot fail to see how important education is for a child. As a politician, one recognizes the importance of having a government with highly equipped labor force. Transforming education, however is not an easy task bearing in mind that there are challenges everywhere from the shortage of teachers, resources and use of inadequate curricula. It is therefore imperative that nations rise and act consequently before they expose another generation to the same problems (Awa Plaumann 101). Procedural justice the perceived fairness of the process used to determine the distribution of rewards is also defied by the company (Robbins Langton 2001, p. 170). Company records show only one or two workers per week (have gotten) the $20 bonus over the past six months (Schweitzer, p.3). The concept of procedural justice is also challenged through inequitable contract distribution (assuming it can be regulated) at the company. Since the contracts are of broad range, some contracts are more difficult to promote than others are, and the set wages and bonuses do not reflect this inequality (Schweitzer 2002). Another issue is poor communication skills, which result in both a lack of respect for supervisors and a poor level of colleague support. Having friendly and supportive co workers leads to increased job satisfaction , similar to the behaviour of one s manager (Robbins Langton 2001, p.108). The employees at Astral Marketing, however, have poor relations with their supervisors, likely because the supervisors are not trained on how to deal with workers as people (Schweitzer 2002, p.1). There are also poor relations between employees due to a lack of support and understanding (Schweitzer 2002). • 25. Protein Phosphatase Receptor Analysis Its function is regulated by dopaminergic and glutaminergic receptors. When stimulated by dopaminergic receptors it is a potent inhibitor of PP1α (Hemmings, 1984). In contrast, when stimulated by glutaminergic receptors, the inhibitory activity of DARPP 32 against PP1 is reduced (Halpain, 1990). DARPP 32 is regulated by brain derived neurotropic factor as well as the Akt pathway and CDK5/p35 pathway (Stroppolo, 2001) (Bogush, 2007). Protein Phosphatase Inhibitor 2 Protein Phosphatase Inhibitor 2 (I 2) I 2 is a heat stable protein that can inhibit the catalytic subunits of PP1 (Huang, 1976). When unphosphorylated I 2 is inhibitory to PP1c however, phosphorylation of I 2 can induce PP1c activity (Cohen 2002). It has been shown to be important in cell cycle regulation and is found at the centrosomes during interphase (Eto, 2002). The consensus as to the purpose of I 2 is to act as a regulator of PP1 to control the kinase/PP1 balance and activate different cellular events. It has also been shown to play a role in tubulin acetylation in the cilium of retinal epithelial cells. Wang and Brautigan showed that I 2 localizes to the cilium of human retinal epithelial cells with PP1. RNAi knockdown of I 2 showed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subunits discussed above are the major subunits involved in PP1 dynamics. It is a near certainty that more regulatory subunits will be discovered. • 27. Starbucks On Clemson University Campus On Monday, October 17 from one p.m. until two p.m. I observed people s behavior in Starbucks on Clemson University campus. The majority of the population consisted of students most likely ranging from eighteen years old to twenty four years old. This time of day seemed to be particularly busy, and from where I was sitting I observed human behavior as they interacted within the space. The room itself had an ordering area, an area to gather while waiting for your drink, and then multiple seating arrangements, such as booths, high tables, large tables, and small tables. Even with all the furniture the space had little obstructions, making it easy to oversee activity. People s interaction with others depended greatly on whether or not they were with other people. If someone was alone they did not sit at a table that had four or more chairs, instead they would opt for a table that was made for two people. Pairs of people meeting each other at the location hugged, but when saying goodbye, they simply walked away, not stopping to give a farewell. Groups tended to consist of younger students, while individuals were more likely to be older students. While waiting to order their drink groups would talk loudly, but upon sitting each individual would pull out something to occupy them and all talking ceased. The talking amongst others in line gained the attention of people sitting down, especially those that were sitting alone. If a group looked up at people talking in line there ... • 28. Assimilation In The Joy Luck Club Adaptation is the adjustment to one s surrounding conditions. Many animals experience this through physical and behavioral changes based on new obstacles they may face in their environments. They could be surrounded by new species of predatory animals or sources of food that require a new set of skills. Similarly, this can be experienced by humans as well. When a person finds themself in a new place they may need to change in order to survive. In Amy Tan s fiction novel, The Joy Luck Club, immigrant Chinese mothers share their life stories from back in China, their journies to the states, and the relationships with their American born daughters. They learn a new language, society and overall way of life. However, assimilation into the American culture dramatically separates the connection between the mother s and their daughters. The mother s lost themselves on their way to the United States and must deal with the negative realities of their American born children, and see their daughters drifting further away from their culture. As the mothers immigrated to the United States, they had undergone identity changes that would separate themselves from their Chinese cultures. Some identity changes are miniscule, yet left an impact on the mother s. Adjusting to the expectations set upon them during immigration made them present their westernized side. The book takes place in America at 1927 where a young boy named Walt is approached by a strange man, called Master Yehudi and is offered a chance in a lifetime, the ability to fly. As he goes with him he chooses a difficult path that will bring both wonders and despair. This is a book telling about a boys big ambition to overcome all hardship that lives throws in his way. The ability to overcome hardship can be seen through the protagonist personality, his ambition to reach greatness. He was a nobody, a nothing, so when he is offered the chance to achieve something greater he takes it. Not like a bird, my little man. Like a god. You d be the wonder of wonders, Walt, the holy of holies. As long as men walked the earth, they d worship you as the greatest among them. (Auster 74). With this internship I had goals set in mind that I wanted to accomplish; these goals consisted of being able to identify plants when I see them, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of a garden, the different care needs for plants, ways to preserve plants, and for growing them. Digging a hole, putting a seed into it then refilling the dirt and watering it was the only way I thought you could grow something. This summer I found out that you can in fact place seeds between two wet paper towels and they will start to sprout and once they have you can plant them into the ground and they will continue to grow. I feel this is a much better way to start out plants because you have it started before you put them into the ground and can have an idea of how many will fully grow. However, in order for them to be able to grow in the area in which you plant them there should be no weeds to choke them out; this is where being able to tell a difference in plants can come in rather handy. While weeding out a garden it is important to know the difference between the weeds and new sprouts of plants you put in a couple weeks before. It is also very beneficial to pull the weeds out as close to their roots as possible so that they will not reappear; if you only pull off what you see above ground you will have a weed problem indefinitely and your plants could struggle greatly while trying to thrive due to the weeds ... • 32. Judicial Originality And The Legal System Topic 2 By: Raylen White Judicial originality is the most fundamental principle in the legal system. Judicial originality to me means being able to make a decision based off the effects. If a judge has had a case in the past similar to a current one, the judge can base his current decision using the same discretion or rule he used before. Dworkin wrote a paper about this, he argues that judges should not be able to create laws through the effect of their decisions. He has two arguments about why judicial originality is not a good thing for society. In this paper I will talk about these arguments and if Dworkin has the right to claim that this argument has no force against it. The first argument he had against judicial originality was that a community should be govern by men and women who are elected by and responsible to the majority. This means that most judges are not elected by a wide spread of the community, and if they could make their own laws they would not benefit the community. It is important that the community has a say on what should be a law and what should not be a law. If judges were to make laws that would be a contradiction to the theory of separation of powers. It would seem to be that judges are analogous to the legislature, which in fact, they are not because the legislature is elected. Policy decisions must therefore be made through the operation of some political process designed to produce an accurate expression of the different interest that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Durkheim became one of the first scientists to consider culture and society worthy of study, Boas refined and corrected theories hypothesized by Durkheim and others, and Geertz set an example of how to conduct ethnographies that is still used to this day. Emile Durkheim lived during the rise of the British Empire and the Industrial Revolution. These changes in his own society made him question the origin of state and the evolution of social complexity (Moore, 2000). To answer these questions, Durkheim believed that all societies should be studied through scientific research methodology, because Durkheim viewed sociology as the science of societies (p. 43). Through this method, Durkheim developed a variety of hypotheses about society and its evolution; there were two forms of social integration, mechanical and organic solidarity. Mechanical solidarity was a homogeneous society with individuals resembling each other in their positions in society and in their values and views, creating a conscience collective. In an organic solidarity society, each member of society is more of an individual, each playing a different role but ultimately under the control of a central organ (p. 47). Societies naturally transition from a mechanical solidarity society to an organic solidarity society, according to Durkheim, gradually losing the homogeneity, conscience collective, ... Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property Trust in Cloud Computing Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry based on known parameters that include the use of critical equipment, management of critical data, respect for privacy, security and longevity of information, And the protection of intellectual property. Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure privacy is by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores and some providers are already employing this method. Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). • 48. Analysis Of The Raft Of Medusa What s so great about this artwork? How can a photo give a sense of emotion? This is all questions the painting; the raft of medusa answers. Theodore Gericault uses smart angels and pigmentation of different bland of colors to give different sense of emotion from just one painting. The question as a novelist Julian Barnes asked, how do you turn catastrophe into art? to understand this artwork, we must look back to the origin of the painting. The raft of the medusa was one of the most important masterpieces of the 19th century. As it was one of the earliest well known romantic painting. What makes it important is how the artist Theodore Gericault came to paint such a confronting image but before I go on, there is a backstory to understand what motivated him to pursue such a painting. Theodore Gericault came from a wealthy French family and shows for his vocation in life to be an artist. He left France to gain some inspiration from Rome, while away he missed all the news on the scandal of the event. The event which lead to the raft of the medusa was the captain of the ship. Who was given the job of leading the ship not for his skills but because of his royal connections as he was the king s representative. The captain was more interested in impressing the soon to be governor of Senegal. The shipwreck would ve never have happened if he did not try to impress the governor. The captain pushed the crew to move to fast and along the shore. Bad idea as the medusa ran ashore on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm; however, it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the Wife of Bath s Tale tapped into a strong topic gender equality it only stated that women want to be equal to men as well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand: a knight who raped a girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife. If the story went differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story. Meanwhile, the Pardoner s Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that humans have, as well as the consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into the darkness of humanity, the consequences when one has dug themselves too deep and shows how, despite people knowing the result of their misconduct, will still choose to sink further into darkness. They were after an honourable cause at first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they dropped everything and easily surrendered their minds to greed. In lines 166 169, it states, No longer was it Death those fellows sought, for they were all so thrilled to see the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
