This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Colander - This is a type of sieve used in cooking for separating liquids and solids.
Cutting board or Chopping board - This can be made of wood or plastic on which the material to be cut is placed.
Ladle - This is a type of serving spoon that is widely used for soup, stew or other liquid foods.
Measuring cup - This is a kitchen utensil used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or powder form cooking ingredients such
as water, milk, juice, flour and sugar.
Measuring spoon - These can be made of plastic or metal used to measure the amount of ingredients, either liquid or dry when
cooking.
Cutlery - This is more usually known as silverware or flatware.
Grater - This is a kitchen utensil used to grate foods into fine strips or crumbs.
Whisk - This is a cooking utensil used to blend ingredients smoothly.
3. Peeler - This is used to scrape vegetables, such as carrots, potatoes and fruits.
Can and Bottle opener - This is used to open a food tin, preferably with a smooth operation and comfortable grip and turning knob.
Potato masher - This is used for mashing cooked potatoes, turnips, carrots and other soft cooked vegetables.
Knife - This is used for cutting.
Garlic presser - This is a kitchen tool which is specifically designed for the purpose of crushing garlic.
Basting brush - This is a piece of cooking tool designed to assist cooking and to adding liquid to food for flavour and to keep it
moist.
Funnel - This is a conical utensil having a small hole or narrow tube at the apex.
A. Chef’s knife – This is used for chopping, slicing, mincing and performing most food cutting tasks that do not require a high risk
degree of precision.
B. Serrated knife – This is known as bread knife.
C. Paring knife – This is appear to be tiny, only a few inches long.
D. Cleaver knife – This is a heavy rectangular blade designed to cut through meat and bones in heavy hard strokes.
E. Boning knife - This is designed for removing bones from meat especially fish and poultry.

Refrigerator – This is a cooling appliance for the storage and preservation of perishable food.
Blender – This is kitchen and laboratory appliances used to mix puree or emulsify food and other substances.
Food processor – This is an electrical kitchen appliance that utilizes several different blades and a high speed motor handle
several different common cooking tasks.
Burner gas range with oven – This is a kitchen appliance with a chamber or compartment use for cooking, baking, heating or
drying.
Pressure cooker – This is a kitchen equipment that allows to cook, prepare certain foods in less time than required by
conventional methods.
Griddle – This is a cooking device consisting of broad flat surface that can be heated using a variety of means and it is used in
both residential and commercial applications for a variety of cooking operations.
