The Pros And Cons Of The Schlieffen-Moltke Plan
Although critical for the German war plan, the Schlieffen Moltke plan was kept a secret to the public,
and even staff members of the German Imperial Army. Moltke kept the Schlieffen Plan a secret
throughout his service in the army. Even close staff members, such as General Gerog Graf von
Waldersee, admitted they had never actually seen the blueprints for the plan. (Ehlert, 90, PPed). A
reason that Moltke wished to keep the Schlieffen Moltke plan a secret was for the reason of altering it
if needed without objection from his staff members. Other commander s opinions may have helped
find a better strategy, as well as counter arguments to flawed areas of the plan. Surprisingly, Moltke
did not tell Schlieffen about the changes he had made to his plan. However, Schlieffen found out about
his changes and questioned Moltke s leadership out of spite. (Ehlert, 97, pped). Moltke s strategy was
flawed and caused crucial problem s during the deployment of the Schlieffen Plan. However, he had
the power to get away with it. Due to his close relationship with the Kaiser, Moltke was able to
exercise political pressure and to influence the decisions of the civilian government. His fear of what
the future held for Germany was infectious, and Chancellor Bethmann Hollweg, in particular, was a
victim of this dark vision of things to come. (Mombauer, 420, 1999). Moltke had the ability to control
the actions of the German military without resistance from his staff.

Understand The Importance Of Resilience
combine new ideas, data and options enables us to reflect, assimilate, plan and imagine the future.
When we do not take this time, we make quick decisions that may not be to our best improvement.
These quick decisions can change us and affect our career, our fulfilment, and, ultimately, our
resilience.
At the same time, the organizational demands are constantly changing based on available resources
and global impacts. Today s organizations ask us to define ourselves with a role. We need to
understand our skills and figure out what we need to learn to remain current and build for the future.
When we graduated from high school, we had a vision of what life would be like. As a leader, I
understand the need to be resilient and manage one s career. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What story do we want to be told about us when we are no longer present? This will be our reputation
and our legacy, which we leave behind as we depart each company we work for or after we complete a

are another critical factor for career resilience. Development plans are intended to guide our learning

Japanese Unequal Wages
One day in 1902 when plantation workers racics tactics had finally backfired on them. All of these
workers had unequal wages based on your ethic backround. If you were japanese you could get payed
18 dollars for a month s worth of work while the portuguese and Puerto Ricans would get payed 22.50
dollors for the same work. `A lawyer named Motoyuki Negoro pointed out how the japanese had
unequal wages in many series of articles he wrote for a Japanese newspaper. This led to the formation
of the Zokyu Kisei Kai, the first organization which can rightfully be called a labor union on the
plantations. The Association initiated a polite request to the Planter s Association asking for a
conference and appealing to the planters for reason and justice.

The New Single, By Shawn Mendes
Pop artist, Shawn Mendes, in his new single, Stitches, attempts to move on after a brutal break up.
Mendes s purpose is to notify his ex lover that he will be healed from his endless tries of getting over
her. He aims for an audience that he can relate to, who is going through a break up, and is well aware
of the painful process of getting over the significant other. People may consider that their life is ruined
because they are no longer in a relationship with the person that they love, but recovering from a break
up is evidence of growth and also hope to love again. At the beginning of the song, Mendes executes
the lyrics at a slow pace. The tempo at the start of the song is soft and modifies a settling feeling.
During this soft tempo, Mendes mentions that his ex lover s words are agonizing and cut deeper than a
knife. This represents the suffering and heartbreak of the lover who cannot handle the breakup. Next,
it shifts from a soft tone to an upbeat tone once Mendes says, Got a feeling that I m going under. This
upbeat tone produces the rising of anxiety and fluster which signifies the build up to the end of the
relationship. Ending a relationship is often a long and complex process, with repeated conflicts and
reconciliations. (Smith and Mackie) A breakage to a commitment to the other leaves heartache and
leads to grief. When love is not reciprocated, the rejected person suffers the pains of heartbreak and a
loss of self esteem. The only way to overcome this

Dantes Inferno Research Paper
Dante Alighieri born on June 1, 1265 in Florence, Italy. Dante is a Italian poet and philosopher. He
was born in a family that was a part of the political scene in Florence. His mother died a few years
after he was born. He went to study at the University of Bologna which was one of the most famous
universities in the medieval world. While he was there, one of the most famous scholars at that
advised and encouraged Dante. His name was Brunetto Latini. He appears in Inferno. Only at twelve
years old, Dante was to marry a girl named Gemma Donati. They both married but what the problem

He has been compared to the most famous poet ever, Shakespeare. He has been said to be the only
writer to be in the same class as him. Some people believe that Dante s Divine Comedy is better than
some of Shakespeare s work. Dante s Divine Comedy is still one of the best works of literature after
650 years. The work of art is a major part of The Western Canon. The Western Canon is a collection of
the greatest books in history.
Dante died in 1321 while traveling to Venice. What most people think was that he caught a disease
like malaria because this was spreading throughout the medieval ages. He was buried in the Church of

Narrative Reflection
Coming into Drexel, an important factor I learned was to have a clear understanding in the art and
mechanics for literature composition. I learned that it would mature my writing to a higher level of
thinking. My past experiences in my writing through high school English teacher feedback indicated
my writing to be full of flaws. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded
or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea
that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices
give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing.
For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an

I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such
as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered
throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about
my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. The account of my
summer experience in Pakistan such as how I felt before leaving the country to embracing the lifestyle
of my relatives needed more depth, a central theme. Since my encounter of witnessing poverty first

Importance Of Friendship In Siddhartha
What makes someone a good friend? Do friends have to be together all the time to qualify as a good
friend? In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, the answer to these questions can be found.
Siddhartha, an unhappy Brahmin, leaves his parents and village with his friend Govinda to find
enlightenment. Govinda and Siddhartha separate, but later in the novel when they see each other
again, Govinda is still there for Siddhartha. Later in life, a ferryman named Vasudeva helps Siddhartha
find enlightenment. Hermann Hesse suggests that for a true friendship to work people do not have to
be together all the time or lifelong friends, as Hesse shows through Govinda and Siddhartha, as well as
Siddhartha and his relationship with Vasudeva.
Even though Govinda decides to take a different path, he still plays an important role in Siddhartha s
journey in finding enlightenment. Hermann Hesse writes, You re Siddhartha, Govinda exclaimed
loudly. Now, I m recognizing you, and don t comprehend anymore how I couldn t recognize you right
away. Be welcome, Siddhartha, my joy is great, to see you again. After many years apart, Govinda and
Siddhartha meet again at the river. It is surprising that the men did not recognize each other even
though they had grown up together. Govinda did not know it was Siddhartha, but he still feels a sense
of familiarity and protection over the man. Siddhartha is the first to recognize his dear friend, and it
takes Govinda a while to realize it is Siddhartha who was sleeping by the river. They are happy to see
each other, and even though the meeting is short lived, the men talk about their current situations.
Many years later, Siddhartha and Govinda meet again. Hermann Hesse also writes, Govinda stayed
the night in the hut and slept in the bed that had once been Vasudeva s. He asked the friend of his
youth many questions and Siddhartha had a great deal to tell him about his life. When Govinda and
Siddhartha separate once again, there is an extended time where they have no contact. The men still
feel comfortable with each other and Siddhartha invites Govinda into his home. Siddhartha had no
problem reconnecting with Govinda. It seems as though they had always been friends and they act like

Taking a Look at Harp Lager
1. Brand History.
Harp lager was launched in 1960. It was first brewed in the Great Northern Brewery in Dundalk. The
drink was created under the guidance of Dr. Herman Muender who fused German beer knowledge
with Irish brewing heritage. Harp which is now owned by the drinks company Diageo fast became the
most popular lager brand in Ireland. When it was launched it was marketed as a new modern drink
that would appeal to young males and females alike. It was a sister brand of Guinness which was
associated with older men in the country. Slogans used in the initial marketing campaigns included

brewed beer during the troubles in the country. It became the first mass marketed draught lager in
Ireland and the UK. Harp remained successful through the 80s and into the 90s when some of its
advertisements helped launch the careers of TV personalities such as Jonathan Ross. However, the
brand never reached the same success it had in the 70s when it held the majority of the market share.
The brand was re launched in 1994 coinciding with the World Cup, sales rose by 12%. However this
re launch didn t result in continued consumer loyalty and this boost soon subsided. Last year Diageo
Ireland launched a new look for Harp larger with the aim to increase the brands relevance to larger
drinkers. The new design was inspired by the Samuel Beckett bridge in Dublin the new look was meat

An Introduction to Intercultural Communication
An Introduction to Intercultural Communication
Intercultural communication is of importance to international businesses as it examines how people
from different cultures, beliefs and religions come together to work and communicate with each other.
Demands for intercultural communication skills are increasing as more and more businesses go global
or international. They realize that there are barriers and limitations when entering a foreign territory.
Without the help of intercultural communication they can unknowingly cause confusion and
misunderstandings. For these intercultural businesses to breach the cultural barriers encountered when
stepping into foreign grounds it is vital for them to fully understand the cultural differences ... Show

It is important that this emersion in the target culture has been to the extent that the cross cultural
consultant can totally empathise with the culture and understand its dynamics.
Speaking a Foreign Language
Language carries with it cultural coding. All experts, commentators and linguists are unanimous that
without knowledge of the language the culture can never be appreciated. A cross cultural consultant
will therefore have this insider knowledge not only through living and working in a country but also
by using and understanding the language.
The complexity and diversity of cross cultural challenges in the international business world is
reflected in the broad knowledge and skills of cross cultural consultants. Drawing on expertise gained
through a variety of interrelated fields, the cross cultural consultant is now truly a specialist of great
importance.
The Definition of Intercultural Communication
What is intercultural communication?
Intercultural communication in its most basic form refers to an academic field of study and research.
Its seeks to understand how people from different countries and cultures behave, communicate and
perceive the world around them. The findings of such academic research are then applied to real life
situations such as how to create cultural synergy between people from different cultures within a
business or how psychologists understand their patients.

I am conducting biomedical research in the laboratory of cardiac physiology under the mentorship of
Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a better
understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and reperfusion injury
are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of many
processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and mediating ischemia
reperfusion injury. The uptake of calcium into the mitochondrial matrix is regulated by the
mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). An endogenous enzyme, Ca2+ Calmodulin Dependent

To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test changes
in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using calcium retention
capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only, WT and DMSO, WT and
KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium uptake between the subgroups.
Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93 group to take up lower amounts of
calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test the second hypothesis, I am conducting
MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different subgroups (WT, WT and H202,
WT+H202+KN93, and WT+H202+DMSO) to compare the levels of cell viability and death
respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of H202 and I am also using
propidium iodide staining to test for the measurements of cell death among the different groups. I
decided to use propidium iodide staining to better test the cardioprotection of MEFs in ischemic like
conditions that would better account for the confounding variable, cell growth during the incubation

The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and...
The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of
mindfulness . In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with
particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow .
Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins,
2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose,
in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat
Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however
many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction
(MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain
(Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural
tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining
behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth
by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as
focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness
and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with
problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo
mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment
(Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an
indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which
theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness
(Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). Csikszentmihalyi (1990; as cited in Bernier, Thienot,

Digital Technology on the Media Industry
Explore the impact of digital technologies on the music industries
In recent years, digital technologies have changed dramatically, consequentially having a significant
impact on the music industry, who have been forced to alter their methods of production; to counteract
the increased fickleness of music audiences, whose tastes are ever changing and seek instant
gratification. The evolution of the music industry has been acutely influenced by the developments in
technology. It could be argued that technology has been a significant challenge for style of cultural
production, the economic relationships within these, and of course... the law.

Conversely as many artists and record companies argue music distribution in this manner has many a
disadvantage. For example, It has been estimated that over 95% of downloading is done illegally, and
the ease of access has turned this type of illegal activity into a casual affair, which is done on a
frequent basis. The concern is artists not receiving their appropriate royalties, as obviously when
downloading in an illegal fashion, nothing is actually purchased.
Recently there has been quite a backlash, with musicians attempting to sue file sharing and music
distributing sites, demanding sums of money for each song that s been illegally copied. Obviously the
issue of theft is rife, but the argument is that it s the people performing the acts that are against the law
that should be punished, and not the technology itself. The publicity in cases like these seem to make
the artist appear less popular, and ironically it s the sites that actually benefit from the media attention,
by the increased hits from curious media consumers.
A recent report suggests that only 5% of the music we acquire from online is purchased legitimately. It
s been said that at least 7 million people in Britain alone use illegal downloads, costing the economy
not just billions of pounds, but also thousands of jobs too. David Lammy, minister for intellectual

7 November 2015 Though we Americans, in all of our efforts, feel as if the day of racism is coming to
an end, I feel it is merely evolving into a much more subtle approach. Seeing life through the words of
Anne Moody in her book entitled, Coming of Age in Mississippi , shows that racism, even back then,
is treated with remedies versus a cure. After the many anti discrimination legislations passed as well as
activist groups shedding light on all of the significant differences and injustices that African

Anne Moody saw the true hideousness of racial violence shortly after beginning high school. Emmet

Anne was surprised at how unaware she was to the things happening around her. I don t remember if
anyone was murdered, but back when I was in high school it was almost as if whites viewed it to be
cardinal sin for an African American male to be with a white woman. This too was a time where I saw
the true reality of what it was to be an African American versus a White American. Anne s mother
informed her to continue throughout life as if nothing happened but understandably she couldn t.
While working Anne could not focus and her rage began to display. Mrs. Burke made an attempt to
talk to Anne concerning Emmet Till s death but Anne acted as if she didn t know what Mrs. Burke was
speaking of. Mrs. Burke told her that that is what happens when black people step out of place with
whites. It was at that point Anne began to fear for her life now learning the true outlook of being an
African American. I see on a daily basis where African Americans accept injustice and move on with
life as if it doesn t matter. Instead of standing in the gap for what could very well hit home African
Americans tend to turn a blind eye to the corruption and cruelty we face.
So many times within the work force we, African Americans, are reminded where we stand in the eye

According to my understanding of the play, I feel it is Lady Macbeth s ambition that drives the play
forward. In the beginning of the play, it seems that Macbeth is a weak man odalisque to a cold hearted
woman who manipulates him to her benefit. This illusion is exemplified when Lady Macbeth presents
her thoughts after reading her husband s letter. Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear

The hallucinations of the dagger afloat with blood on its hilt, the paracusia of Macbeth does murder
sleep, Macbeth shall sleep no more and his inability to say Amen are all symbols of his guilt.
After the first murder, Lady Macbeth s ambition seems to fade and Macbeths focal point changes. His
ambition is now aimed at keeping the world from learning of his sin; He is willing to do anything,
including further stain his conscience by committing and ordering executions. Ironically if it weren t
for the murder of Banquo, no one would have truly suspected Macbeth s crime as Macduff.
His ambitions change from becoming king to protecting that which his. He is flawed in his ambition
and his cowardice, he knows that he is too ambitious he realizes that what he is doing is wrong. He
speaks his mind, however he is easily swayed by his wife. Once the murder is committed, once
Duncan s heart has beaten for the last time; Macbeth is immediately thrown into a pit of guilt. He
makes it his mission to never let anyone find out that he murdered his king. Wake Duncan with thy

on genetics can be examined through the contrast of Vincent and Eugene in Gattaca. Eugene, a valid
ex swimmer who was never meant to be one step down on the podium , is a product of the crushing
weight of the social expectations failing in his attempts for success. Consequently, he tries to commit
suicide by walking in front of that car sober and fails, making him a paraplegic. Arrogant and mildly
depressed, Eugene feels as if he couldn t even get that right and if at first you don t succeed, try and
try again! enlightening the audience in believing that even though he was born for success, ambition
and triumph are not based

Diversity Efforts
To increase diversity, employers are permitted to consider race or gender as a factor in selecting
employees. Race differences in the workplace force diversification. I personally think that it is
necessary. I would never think to hire or not hire someone, because of skin color or race differences.
Hiring or not hiring someone, because they have a different skin color is just as wrong. However,
because discrimination has occurred, history has created the need for laws to protect working class
citizens. Breaking into classifications by race or gender is now common in the U.S. In making
employment decisions, I do think that there are ethical factors that create exceptions to the rule. In
particular, gender considerations playing an active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

World War II Stolen And Looted Art
Stolen and Looted Art from World War II
On June 28, 1914, World War I began. Only a year before Adolf Hitler move to Munich, Germany.
After moving around constantly, Hitler joined the German Army. He worked his way up to earn the
rank of Corporal. During this time Hitler was wounded twice while fighting. Toward the end of the
war, Hitler was blinded by mustard gas, but he eventually recovered. But the end of the war was still a
hard time for Hitler. The military was really the only family that he had ever known. The fighting from
the battlefield gave him the experience and technique in fighting. It had also shaped Hitler to be very
controlling and very committed to his plan. He had planned to wipe out the Jewish people. He thought

German troops to retreat and were gaining significant ground by pushing German troops back. They
slowly invaded many concentration camps and found many places where the Nazis hidden art. Many
places were mines of some sort. Like coal mines and salt mines were where they found most art
works. To get inside the mines they had to blow holes in the sides of them with dynamite or other
explosives. Even though blowing holes in the walls is the only way to get in, it did very much damage
to some pieces near the hole in the wall. Vincent Van Gogh s Painter on the Road to Tarascon was
burned when U.S. troops bombed Magdeburg. Sometimes they even found art in Germany s art
museums. One piece, the Portrait of a Young Man , was found in Hitler s Fuhrer Museum in 1939.
Other pieces that haven t been found but experts know that they have been stolen by the Nazis are
some like Madonna of Bruges , The Astronomer , and a portrait of Dr. Gachet.
One piece that was worth a lot of money that was never found was The Amber Room . It was made

Peter the Great. Even though it was taken and never found, there is a reconstructed one in Russia for

My Career Path For My Life
I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was eight years old. I noticed that the first three
letters of Arthritis spell art . To me, art is the creative outlet that has made me the person I am today.
My artistic abilities have helped me choose my career path in film that I want to peruse for the rest of
my life. I have used my real life obstacles, career goals, accomplishments and personal background to
write lyrics, scripts and create art. I am an artist and I know that with the talents I have, will help me
accomplish anything I set my mind to. I am the second oldest of four children and the second person
in my family to go to college. Neither of my parents had the opportunity to college, so I had to work
hard in school to get into a four year university. There is a lot of pressure on me to be a good role
model and set a good example for my younger siblings. I treasure my education due to the fact my
parents were not able to have one. Due to my parent s education level, my dad is the only one who
was able to find a job to provide for a family of six. He barely makes enough to maintain my family
with the daily necessities. My family also has to put my medical expenses first over my education
expenses. My parents do not have any left over money to help me pay my cell phone, school supplies,
textbooks, or housing. Since, I am the second person going to college from my family and I will have
to fund my education on my own just as my older brother did. My financial

Organizational Development can involve interventions in the organization s processes, using
behavioral science knowledge as well as organizational reflection, system improvement, planning and
self analysis. Kurt Lewin (1898 1947) is widely recognized as the founding father of Organizational
Development, although he died before the concept became current in the mid 1950s. After Lewin were
the ideas of group dynamics and action research which underpin the basic Organizational
Development process as well as providing its collaborative consultant/client ethos.

1.1 Importance of Organization Development Organizational development takes into consideration
how the organization and its constituents or employees function together. Does the organization meet
the needs of its employees? Do the employees work effectively to make the organization a success?
How can the symbiotic relationship between employee satisfaction and organizational success be
optimized? Organizational development places emphasis on the human factors and data inherent in the
organization employee relationship. Organizational development strategies can be used to help
employees become more committed and more adaptable, which ultimately improves the organization

Flat Tax
Flat Tax Rate: Rich Households Have Had Enough Rich households have been paying too much in
taxes these past years. Earners in the top 1% pay about 43% of their incomes in tax. [While] people in
the middle quintile pay 25%. [And] the poorest fifth pays 13% (Barro). And yet some politicians, like
Donald Trump, think the solution to resolving our country s debt is by taxing the top percent more. In
reality, the United States should have a flat tax rate due to the fact that it is the fairest plan and the
hard work pertained by the top percent should be valued. The way flat tax rate works is that everyone
gets taxed the same percentage regardless of their income. For example, lets say a poor man makes
$50,000 yearly , while a rich man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also used of resources such as building schools, roads, paying government employees but the fact
of the matter is that its all for the public. Why should you make high income citizens pay for things
that everyone is using. We should all put in the same amount of money that goes into these projects,
since after all there for everyones use. Why would you penalize people that worked hard for their
money when everyone else had the opportunity to do so. Even if its old money, someone struggled to
gather that money, the government cannot just take that away. Being rich is rare privilege, not fairly
common, if not it would not feel so unique. With the method we have now we are just going to
balance everyones finances out, we need a diverse income for our population. If not people will not
have any ambition, not strive. A country has to create riches, not distribute them if they do the
economy as we know it will go in a decadence. Those that are in the highest class have studied and
trained so hard to where they are. Most of them have corporations in which provide work, if a flat tax
was issued those same corporations would have more resources to expand their business to create
more job. With the rate our tax plans are going corporations are going no other option then lay people

After that we went to bed because we had to get up at 9:00 am to go see Meghan and Nazire. We went

Then we went to the hospital and Meghan was still in her bed just chillin. Then the doctor walked in

I m so sorry ma am but your baby has a very low blood sugar
Is there a way to fix it I asked
Yes I felt a rush of relief when I heard that.

it has on employees. Mergers and acquisitions are sometimes referred to as takeovers or raid. In this
paper, I will attempt to elucidate some of the reasons behind M A and some of the effects it has on
employees. There are a plethora of effects and consequences that mergers and acquisitions have on the

Both companies were dissolved after the merger and a new company GlaxoSmithKline was formed.
Another kind of merger is when the buyer takes on the assets and liabilities of the merged company
(Romanek, Krus, 2002). According to Romanek and Krus (2002), this kind of business transaction is
referred to as statutory merger. On the other hand, a subsidiary merger is when the target company
becomes a subsidiary of the parent or acquiring company, wrote Romanek and Krus (2010). Although,
the target company ceases to exist in both types of mergers, in a statutory merger, the target company
maybe operated as a subsidiary, using its brand name, but is controlled and owned by the acquiring
company. A merger can also be categorized as horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate argued Gaughan
(2007). This categorization is predicated on whether or not the merging firms are in the same or
different industries. When the two firms are in the same industry, the merger is considered to be
horizontal. An example alluded to by Gaughan (2007) of this classification of merger is the merger
between the two petroleum giants, Exxon and Mobil in 1998. Other examples of horizontal mergers
include Oracle and PeopleSoft in business application software (2004), and NationsBank and Bank of
America (1998) in commercial banking (D. DePamphilis, 2010). Vertical mergers can be best depicted

Harley Davidson Strategic Analysis Essay
Harley Davidson Strategic Analysis
William Harley and Arthur Davidson wanted to take the work out of riding bicycles in 1901. After
being joined by the Arthur brothers, Walter and William, they came up with the idea of putting a motor
and a bicycle together. Many engine changes were made before the builders were satisfied. In 1903,
they created the first Harley Davidson motorcycle and produced three that year. Harley built its first
building in 1907 on Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee. That same year, 150 motorcycles were produced.
As they were used for recreational purposes, they were also used in military situations. They proved
useful in border skirmishes and the government called for 20,000 bikes to be shipped overseas.

to make, but can be sold at the same price as a car. This may draw many competitors into the business,

Similarities Between Metropolis And Dystopiar Cities
MODULE : METROPOLIS AND NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR ESSAY Dystopian societies illustrate
how historical contexts can influence the political and social values of the time, exploring the extent of
the potential for exploitation of power. Fritz Lang s German expressionist film, Metropolis (1927) and
George Orwell s satirical novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) dramatise the impact of oppressive
controlling forces upon the individual illustrating an abuse of power, emphasising the potential of its
exploitation of the populist. Lang reflects the anxieties of the Weimar Republic, under the

This expresses the reality of post World War I as the film s introductory sequence draws upon German
Expressionist elements presenting a low angle of towering skyscrapers in Bauhaus design and abstract
machinery. This artistic vivid and opulent setting contrasts with extreme close up of machines
suggesting the collective power of movement parallel to the workers, as they operate machinery
beneath the city in synchronicity. This disparity creates a defined hierarchical structure that juxtaposes
the heightened sense of power experienced by the ruling elite with the worker s sense of loss of
identity in the face of technological expansion. This extreme dichotomy exposes the innate fear of
abuse of power within a capitalist framework as audiences perceived the potential of conformity to a
totalitarian corporation, leading to dehumanisation of humanity. Further explored in the creation
scene, the political perspective reveals how the over development of technology for progress,
consequently results in abuse of power. This is developed as the machine man is displayed in a low
angle shot underneath upside down pentagram, the religious motif symbolic of how Rotwang proves
to be usurping the powers of god, emphasising that through the abuse of power, technology has the
ability to create a loss of identity leading to dehumanisation. Through the technological expansion
made apparent through Lang s dystopic world the potential of the exploitation of power is

Essay on The Bible Among the Myths Summary
SUMMARY OF JOHN N. OSWALT S BOOK THE BIBLE AMONG THE MYTHS
David Strickland Old Testament Introduction OBST 590 June 1, 2013
Introduction The author, John N. Oswalt, was first introduced to the subject of this book in his
seminary studies in the 1960s. Oswalt introduces his book with a narrative of the similarities and
differences that exist between the Old Testament and the literature of the Ancient Near East. Prior to
the 1960s scholars believed that the Old Testament was unique and did not resemble the literature of
the surrounding cultures, but now there has been a shift in thought. Many scholars believe today that
the Old Testament is virtually identical to Ancient Near East writings. This issue of differences and ...

Oswalt starts his definition process by discussing the debate of whether the Bible has a distinctive
view of reality. Until fifty years ago most scholars believed that biblical literature did not share the
characteristics of myth. Today there has been a radical shift in opinions, such as the possibility that
mythical thought and mythical literature are at the very heart of Israel s religion.1 Oswalt believes that
this change is based on assumptions and not on new discoveries. The problem of definition
encompasses the first obstacle when defining a myth. The validity of a definition must be evaluated.
The first problem is that a definition must be broad enough to include all the items that share common
characteristics but narrow enough to exclude items that only have a few common characteristics. The
second problem has to do with the nature of the definition and whether it provides a description or an
evaluation. Oswalt groups definitions of myth according to their type as either historical philosophical
or phenomenological. He then subdivides historical philosophical into etymological, sociological and
literary. Etymological definitions of myth emphasize the falsity of what is being described and are
frequently too broad. In sociological definitions of myth, truth is seen as relative. Perception of
something being true makes it true. Oswalt labels his final subdivision of historical philosophical

A Brief Note On A Path Of Destruction
Tammy Massey
Ms. Julie Dorris
English Composition 2
1 May 2016
A Path of Destruction The generation of today is always busy on some form of media. Media consist
of television, video games, the internet, and smartphones just to name a few. It is thought to be
necessary for life in this everyday world. While technology can be fun, and is often used for many
good things, it also seems to create a few problems. Many individuals are of the opinion that the
media has little to no effect on murderous acts of violence, and others tend to lean in a very different
direction thinking that it is mere corruption. Media involving violence is believed by several to initiate
vicious acts, leading normal situations to change into dangerous ones.

In 1956, kids in a study who watched a violent episode of Woody Woodpecker were more likely to hit
other children and break toys than kids who watched a nonviolent cartoon (Hermes 2). All of these
things made parents wonder what was happening to their children.
Television was going strong by the 1960 s, and world events were aired for families to see. On
November 22, 1963, a CBS radio news bulletin interrupted As The World Turns to report that John F.
Kennedy had been seriously wounded by shots fired at his motorcade (Sneed 5). The incident was
reported in newspapers all across the world. The Vietnam War was escalating and the Civil Rights
Movement was in progress. All of these events were greatly affected the music. Most households had
a telephone on a party line with another family. Many loved to pick up the phone and listen to
personal conversations resulting in gossip. Every individual was affected by media at this point in
time.
In the decade of the 1970 s television was beginning to be more open about sex. Daytime TV was all
about the soap opera. These television shows were erotic and involved romance and sex. Not only was
television changing but the game industry was starting to evolve. The game console had been on the
market for several years. In 1976, this form of entertainment brought the beginning of game violence
to the public. Death Race, an 8 bit arcade game in which a vaguely car shaped blob ran over stick

Ethical Dilemma Of Artificial Intelligence
The major ethical dilemma faced in the series Westworld is a problem that we as human will have to
eventually address. The rate at which technology is advancing is incredible and there have been great
strides that have been accomplished when it comes to our progress on Artificial Intelligence.
Therefore, there has been ongoing ethical debate about weather or not humans should ultimately
extend rights to Artificial Intelligence once it becomes sentient. Many highly respectable persons, such
as Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, and Steve Wozniak have all voiced their concerns against
Artificial Intelligence; even going as far as saying it could lead to the eventual demise of all of
mankind.
Furthermore, at the International Joint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way humans in Westworld were able to justify such treatment of the hosts was to distance
themselves by stating that they were just simply machines who were unable to comprehend their
mistreatment. Theresa confirms this in Season 1 Episode 1 The Original when she remarks,
[Westworld] works because the guests know they re not real .
This mindset ignored the long term affects of the trauma inflicted on the hosts. In an article in World
View, Hutan Ashrafian made an excellent point about holding intelligent machines to the same
standards as human beings because if we were to allow sentient machines to commit injustices on one
another even if these crimes did not have a direct impact on human welfare this might reflect poorly
on our own humanity. That s why Logan s statement about Westworld ability to show you who you are
rings true. Especially for William who ended up transforming into the most horrific character in the
series the Man in Black. Unfortunately, that sort of dark switch in character is not limited to fiction.
In the Stanford Prison Experiment conducted in 1971 by Philip Zimbardo, it showed how dark of a
turn ordinary people could take when either pushed to the limit or given so much power of authority
over others. The study subjects, middle class college students, had answered a questionnaire about
their family backgrounds, and had been deemed normal ; a coin flip divided them into

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of The Schlieffen-Moltke Plan Although critical for the German war plan, the Schlieffen Moltke plan was kept a secret to the public, and even staff members of the German Imperial Army. Moltke kept the Schlieffen Plan a secret throughout his service in the army. Even close staff members, such as General Gerog Graf von Waldersee, admitted they had never actually seen the blueprints for the plan. (Ehlert, 90, PPed). A reason that Moltke wished to keep the Schlieffen Moltke plan a secret was for the reason of altering it if needed without objection from his staff members. Other commander s opinions may have helped find a better strategy, as well as counter arguments to flawed areas of the plan. Surprisingly, Moltke did not tell Schlieffen about the changes he had made to his plan. However, Schlieffen found out about his changes and questioned Moltke s leadership out of spite. (Ehlert, 97, pped). Moltke s strategy was flawed and caused crucial problem s during the deployment of the Schlieffen Plan. However, he had the power to get away with it. Due to his close relationship with the Kaiser, Moltke was able to exercise political pressure and to influence the decisions of the civilian government. His fear of what the future held for Germany was infectious, and Chancellor Bethmann Hollweg, in particular, was a victim of this dark vision of things to come. (Mombauer, 420, 1999). Moltke had the ability to control the actions of the German military without resistance from his staff. When a case of war was real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Understand The Importance Of Resilience combine new ideas, data and options enables us to reflect, assimilate, plan and imagine the future. When we do not take this time, we make quick decisions that may not be to our best improvement. These quick decisions can change us and affect our career, our fulfilment, and, ultimately, our resilience. At the same time, the organizational demands are constantly changing based on available resources and global impacts. Today s organizations ask us to define ourselves with a role. We need to understand our skills and figure out what we need to learn to remain current and build for the future. When we graduated from high school, we had a vision of what life would be like. As a leader, I understand the need to be resilient and manage one s career. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What story do we want to be told about us when we are no longer present? This will be our reputation and our legacy, which we leave behind as we depart each company we work for or after we complete a phase of a project. • 4. Japanese Unequal Wages One day in 1902 when plantation workers racics tactics had finally backfired on them. All of these workers had unequal wages based on your ethic backround. If you were japanese you could get payed 18 dollars for a month s worth of work while the portuguese and Puerto Ricans would get payed 22.50 dollors for the same work. `A lawyer named Motoyuki Negoro pointed out how the japanese had unequal wages in many series of articles he wrote for a Japanese newspaper. This led to the formation of the Zokyu Kisei Kai, the first organization which can rightfully be called a labor union on the plantations. The Association initiated a polite request to the Planter s Association asking for a conference and appealing to the planters for reason and justice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The New Single, By Shawn Mendes Pop artist, Shawn Mendes, in his new single, Stitches, attempts to move on after a brutal break up. Mendes s purpose is to notify his ex lover that he will be healed from his endless tries of getting over her. He aims for an audience that he can relate to, who is going through a break up, and is well aware of the painful process of getting over the significant other. People may consider that their life is ruined because they are no longer in a relationship with the person that they love, but recovering from a break up is evidence of growth and also hope to love again. At the beginning of the song, Mendes executes the lyrics at a slow pace. The tempo at the start of the song is soft and modifies a settling feeling. During this soft tempo, Mendes mentions that his ex lover s words are agonizing and cut deeper than a knife. This represents the suffering and heartbreak of the lover who cannot handle the breakup. Next, it shifts from a soft tone to an upbeat tone once Mendes says, Got a feeling that I m going under. This upbeat tone produces the rising of anxiety and fluster which signifies the build up to the end of the relationship. Ending a relationship is often a long and complex process, with repeated conflicts and reconciliations. (Smith and Mackie) A breakage to a commitment to the other leaves heartache and leads to grief. When love is not reciprocated, the rejected person suffers the pains of heartbreak and a loss of self esteem. The only way to overcome this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has been compared to the most famous poet ever, Shakespeare. He has been said to be the only writer to be in the same class as him. Some people believe that Dante s Divine Comedy is better than some of Shakespeare s work. Dante s Divine Comedy is still one of the best works of literature after 650 years. The work of art is a major part of The Western Canon. The Western Canon is a collection of the greatest books in history. Dante died in 1321 while traveling to Venice. • 7. Narrative Reflection Coming into Drexel, an important factor I learned was to have a clear understanding in the art and mechanics for literature composition. I learned that it would mature my writing to a higher level of thinking. My past experiences in my writing through high school English teacher feedback indicated my writing to be full of flaws. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing. For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an efficient dynamics, especially in the importance of articulating a message. Furthermore, for my drafts I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. The account of my summer experience in Pakistan such as how I felt before leaving the country to embracing the lifestyle of my relatives needed more depth, a central theme. Since my encounter of witnessing poverty first hand conveyed a powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Importance Of Friendship In Siddhartha What makes someone a good friend? Do friends have to be together all the time to qualify as a good friend? In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, the answer to these questions can be found. Siddhartha, an unhappy Brahmin, leaves his parents and village with his friend Govinda to find enlightenment. Govinda and Siddhartha separate, but later in the novel when they see each other again, Govinda is still there for Siddhartha. Later in life, a ferryman named Vasudeva helps Siddhartha find enlightenment. Hermann Hesse suggests that for a true friendship to work people do not have to be together all the time or lifelong friends, as Hesse shows through Govinda and Siddhartha, as well as Siddhartha and his relationship with Vasudeva. Even though Govinda decides to take a different path, he still plays an important role in Siddhartha s journey in finding enlightenment. Hermann Hesse writes, You re Siddhartha, Govinda exclaimed loudly. Now, I m recognizing you, and don t comprehend anymore how I couldn t recognize you right away. Be welcome, Siddhartha, my joy is great, to see you again. After many years apart, Govinda and Siddhartha meet again at the river. It is surprising that the men did not recognize each other even though they had grown up together. Govinda did not know it was Siddhartha, but he still feels a sense of familiarity and protection over the man. Siddhartha is the first to recognize his dear friend, and it takes Govinda a while to realize it is Siddhartha who was sleeping by the river. They are happy to see each other, and even though the meeting is short lived, the men talk about their current situations. Many years later, Siddhartha and Govinda meet again. Hermann Hesse also writes, Govinda stayed the night in the hut and slept in the bed that had once been Vasudeva s. He asked the friend of his youth many questions and Siddhartha had a great deal to tell him about his life. When Govinda and Siddhartha separate once again, there is an extended time where they have no contact. The men still feel comfortable with each other and Siddhartha invites Govinda into his home. Siddhartha had no problem reconnecting with Govinda. It seems as though they had always been friends and they act like they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rises of these ancient river valley civilizations started the first cradle of civilization. The Indus Valley Civilization, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient China are the earliest civilizations that were successful enough to make enough food for everybody. Every one of these civilizations had three things in common: they all had a special relationship with the river, they created their own writing system, and they all relied on trade. • 11. Taking a Look at Harp Lager 1. Brand History. Harp lager was launched in 1960. It was first brewed in the Great Northern Brewery in Dundalk. The drink was created under the guidance of Dr. Herman Muender who fused German beer knowledge with Irish brewing heritage. Harp which is now owned by the drinks company Diageo fast became the most popular lager brand in Ireland. When it was launched it was marketed as a new modern drink that would appeal to young males and females alike. It was a sister brand of Guinness which was associated with older men in the country. Slogans used in the initial marketing campaigns included Have you heard the call yet and Brewed in Ireland naturally evoking a sense of pride in the home brewed beer during the troubles in the country. It became the first mass marketed draught lager in Ireland and the UK. Harp remained successful through the 80s and into the 90s when some of its advertisements helped launch the careers of TV personalities such as Jonathan Ross. However, the brand never reached the same success it had in the 70s when it held the majority of the market share. The brand was re launched in 1994 coinciding with the World Cup, sales rose by 12%. However this re launch didn t result in continued consumer loyalty and this boost soon subsided. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and reperfusion injury are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of many processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and mediating ischemia reperfusion injury. To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test changes in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using calcium retention capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only, WT and DMSO, WT and KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium uptake between the subgroups. Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93 group to take up lower amounts of calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test the second hypothesis, I am conducting MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different subgroups (WT, WT and H202, WT+H202+KN93, and WT+H202+DMSO) to compare the levels of cell viability and death respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of H202 and I am also using propidium iodide staining to test for the measurements of cell death among the different groups. In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow . Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment (Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness (Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). Both companies were dissolved after the merger and a new company GlaxoSmithKline was formed. Another kind of merger is when the buyer takes on the assets and liabilities of the merged company (Romanek, Krus, 2002). According to Romanek and Krus (2002), this kind of business transaction is referred to as statutory merger. On the other hand, a subsidiary merger is when the target company becomes a subsidiary of the parent or acquiring company, wrote Romanek and Krus (2010). Although, the target company ceases to exist in both types of mergers, in a statutory merger, the target company maybe operated as a subsidiary, using its brand name, but is controlled and owned by the acquiring company. A merger can also be categorized as horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate argued Gaughan (2007). This categorization is predicated on whether or not the merging firms are in the same or different industries. When the two firms are in the same industry, the merger is considered to be horizontal. An example alluded to by Gaughan (2007) of this classification of merger is the merger between the two petroleum giants, Exxon and Mobil in 1998. Other examples of horizontal mergers include Oracle and PeopleSoft in business application software (2004), and NationsBank and Bank of America (1998) in commercial banking (D. DePamphilis, 2010). Vertical mergers can be best depicted as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1903, they created the first Harley Davidson motorcycle and produced three that year. Harley built its first building in 1907 on Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee. That same year, 150 motorcycles were produced. As they were used for recreational purposes, they were also used in military situations. Similarities Between Metropolis And Dystopiar Cities MODULE : METROPOLIS AND NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR ESSAY Dystopian societies illustrate how historical contexts can influence the political and social values of the time, exploring the extent of the potential for exploitation of power. Fritz Lang s German expressionist film, Metropolis (1927) and George Orwell s satirical novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) dramatise the impact of oppressive controlling forces upon the individual illustrating an abuse of power, emphasising the potential of its exploitation of the populist. Lang reflects the anxieties of the Weimar Republic, under the hyperinflation after World War I, highlighting the consequences of rapid industrialisation and the subsequent disunity between the working and upper classes, whilst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This expresses the reality of post World War I as the film s introductory sequence draws upon German Expressionist elements presenting a low angle of towering skyscrapers in Bauhaus design and abstract machinery. This artistic vivid and opulent setting contrasts with extreme close up of machines suggesting the collective power of movement parallel to the workers, as they operate machinery beneath the city in synchronicity. This disparity creates a defined hierarchical structure that juxtaposes the heightened sense of power experienced by the ruling elite with the worker s sense of loss of identity in the face of technological expansion. This extreme dichotomy exposes the innate fear of abuse of power within a capitalist framework as audiences perceived the potential of conformity to a totalitarian corporation, leading to dehumanisation of humanity. Further explored in the creation scene, the political perspective reveals how the over development of technology for progress, consequently results in abuse of power. This is developed as the machine man is displayed in a low angle shot underneath upside down pentagram, the religious motif symbolic of how Rotwang proves to be usurping the powers of god, emphasising that through the abuse of power, technology has the ability to create a loss of identity leading to dehumanisation. Through the technological expansion made apparent through Lang s dystopic world the potential of the exploitation of power is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on The Bible Among the Myths Summary SUMMARY OF JOHN N. OSWALT S BOOK THE BIBLE AMONG THE MYTHS David Strickland Old Testament Introduction OBST 590 June 1, 2013 Introduction The author, John N. Oswalt, was first introduced to the subject of this book in his seminary studies in the 1960s. Oswalt introduces his book with a narrative of the similarities and differences that exist between the Old Testament and the literature of the Ancient Near East. Prior to the 1960s scholars believed that the Old Testament was unique and did not resemble the literature of the surrounding cultures, but now there has been a shift in thought. Many scholars believe today that the Old Testament is virtually identical to Ancient Near East writings. This issue of differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oswalt starts his definition process by discussing the debate of whether the Bible has a distinctive view of reality. Until fifty years ago most scholars believed that biblical literature did not share the characteristics of myth. Today there has been a radical shift in opinions, such as the possibility that mythical thought and mythical literature are at the very heart of Israel s religion.1 Oswalt believes that this change is based on assumptions and not on new discoveries. The problem of definition encompasses the first obstacle when defining a myth. The validity of a definition must be evaluated. The first problem is that a definition must be broad enough to include all the items that share common characteristics but narrow enough to exclude items that only have a few common characteristics. The second problem has to do with the nature of the definition and whether it provides a description or an evaluation. Oswalt groups definitions of myth according to their type as either historical philosophical or phenomenological. He then subdivides historical philosophical into etymological, sociological and literary. Etymological definitions of myth emphasize the falsity of what is being described and are frequently too broad. In sociological definitions of myth, truth is seen as relative. Perception of something being true makes it true. Oswalt labels his final subdivision of historical philosophical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Media consist of television, video games, the internet, and smartphones just to name a few. It is thought to be necessary for life in this everyday world. While technology can be fun, and is often used for many good things, it also seems to create a few problems. Many individuals are of the opinion that the media has little to no effect on murderous acts of violence, and others tend to lean in a very different direction thinking that it is mere corruption. Media involving violence is believed by several to initiate vicious acts, leading normal situations to change into dangerous ones. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On November 22, 1963, a CBS radio news bulletin interrupted As The World Turns to report that John F. Kennedy had been seriously wounded by shots fired at his motorcade (Sneed 5). The incident was reported in newspapers all across the world. The Vietnam War was escalating and the Civil Rights Movement was in progress. All of these events were greatly affected the music. Most households had a telephone on a party line with another family. Many loved to pick up the phone and listen to personal conversations resulting in gossip. Every individual was affected by media at this point in time. In the decade of the 1970 s television was beginning to be more open about sex. Daytime TV was all about the soap opera. These television shows were erotic and involved romance and sex. Not only was television changing but the game industry was starting to evolve. The rate at which technology is advancing is incredible and there have been great strides that have been accomplished when it comes to our progress on Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, there has been ongoing ethical debate about weather or not humans should ultimately extend rights to Artificial Intelligence once it becomes sentient. Many highly respectable persons, such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, and Steve Wozniak have all voiced their concerns against Artificial Intelligence; even going as far as saying it could lead to the eventual demise of all of mankind. Furthermore, at the International Joint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only way humans in Westworld were able to justify such treatment of the hosts was to distance themselves by stating that they were just simply machines who were unable to comprehend their mistreatment. Theresa confirms this in Season 1 Episode 1 The Original when she remarks, [Westworld] works because the guests know they re not real . This mindset ignored the long term affects of the trauma inflicted on the hosts. In an article in World View, Hutan Ashrafian made an excellent point about holding intelligent machines to the same standards as human beings because if we were to allow sentient machines to commit injustices on one another even if these crimes did not have a direct impact on human welfare this might reflect poorly on our own humanity. That s why Logan s statement about Westworld ability to show you who you are rings true. Especially for William who ended up transforming into the most horrific character in the series the Man in Black. Unfortunately, that sort of dark switch in character is not limited to fiction. In the Stanford Prison Experiment conducted in 1971 by Philip Zimbardo, it showed how dark of a turn ordinary people could take when either pushed to the limit or given so much power of authority over others.
