The Mediation of The Concept of Balance in the Tao Te...
The mediation of the concept of balance in the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu;
The way is cluttered with constant imagery of contradictory views which are both compelling and
insightful, through which we are taken on a journey, our final destination being the true meaning
of life. In a world where we are all yearning for the meaning for life, true harmony and real balance
it is no surprise that the Tao Te Chingis a very haunting piece of literature that holds the reader in
an almost trans like state of mind as it attempts to portray the way to accomplish the above.
The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.

However simultaneously during this time of anarchy and imperialism there were many different
cultural and religious sects forming in China. This provides the modern day reader with one of the
main obstacles from fully comprehending the text seeing as it cannot be approached from a mere
linguistic point of view, as to do this a comparison between various translations would be necessary.
Having said this, to overlook the one link in all of the translations would be impossible. That being
the image of equilibrium it tries to obtain by putting forward two almost totally opposing concepts
and within them making the reader to ponder on it for a while and sieve out the rightful meaning.
Which makes it almost like mathematical formula that just has to be applied, this is present in the
translation of the Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchell and Stanley Lombardo also in the translation
done by Thomas Cleary and C. Lau.
A clear example of this sense of equilibrium is in the second chapter as is talks about the necessity
of the presence of both extremes so that one can appreciate both, invariably proving that the only
way to recognize things is to accept the opposite of it, be it a good or bad thing. It is a simple
equation of comparison plus balance which equals to tranquil understanding but the real task is
putting that into practice. Therefore having and not having arise together.

Personal Narrative On Firework
Firework Idea
The year was 1989 it was the 4th of july and my father was having a great time with his friends
and family. Lets just say when he was younger my dad was not the smartest kid, when it came to
doing stupid things but then what 10 year old is. So this 4th of july my dad was hanging out with
his brother Trent also with his cousins Nick, Jason, Jared, Danny and Monica. Well in his family
every year they would by tons of fireworks for the 4th, well this year they decided to play capture
the flag with the fireworks. Lets just say that was not the best idea in the world.
Let the game begin, my dad yelled as the first game started. Both teams had hidden their flags on
either side of the house up on Jean Street where my dad was living ... Show more content on

Let the game begin Jared said and so it did. Immediately both teams ran to the boundary where
they would wait for someone to cross. This time is Danny to make the same move as my dad did
but Danny was to confident. The greatest thing for my dad was that Danny was the one that my
dad needed to get back at. So as Danny sprinted up the hill to the deck where the flag was, my dad
chased after him. When Danny got into range my dad lit the firework taped onto his hand and
let it go. The firework flew out of his hand like a bullet out of a gun. My dad got what he wanted
and a lot more. The firework struck Danny right in the middle of his back. Not only did it burn
Danny s back it melted his shirt to it! Poor Danny just dropped to the ground crying and bawling
his eyes out. When they heard the crying the parents all rush out of the house to see what was
going on they say Danny laying on the ground with his shirt melted to his back. They started
yelling at my dad, especially my Grandpa Blake who said some colorful things. My dad also
started to cry because only being ten and all he was still a little kid. Well at least one good thing
came out of it, Trent oblivious to what had just happened ran and grabbed the flag from the other
team and ran back to his side. At least they won the game right. This was one of my dad s best and
worst days as

Challenging But Rewarding World Of A Hotel Manager
Challenging yet Rewarding World of a Hotel Manager
The hotel industry is one of the most important segments of the Hospitality in large. Working in
hotels allows its employees to have fun, emerge in new cultures on a daily basis and be able to
advance further in the career. The lodging industry is one of the most rewarding, yet most
challenging fields to work for. Confucius once said Choose a job you love, and you will never have
to work a day in your life . Some people will choose this career path in need of money, but those
who choose it out of passion will understand the power in the saying above. The lodging industry is
a more than $155 billion industry that includes approximately 53,000 properties with almost
5,000,000 guestrooms (Walker, 2015, p. 76). This field is continuously growing due to the trend
of using management contracts and franchising, since it allows brands to expand rapidly without
using their own financial resources (Walker, 2015, p. 76). In today s technology driven society it
is more important to deliver and over exceed guest expectations than ever. The influence of social
media has increased drastically, which can either help or hurt the business due positive or negative
word of mouth. Working in a hotel takes a lot of courage, hard work and perseverance, but it also
takes a lot of passion, love and hospitality spirit to overcome difficult situations. The purpose of
this research paper is to explore the career of a hotel general manager in order

Can the Subaltern Speak Summary
Can the Subaltern Speak? Summary Gayatri Spivak Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is an unsettling
voice in literary theory and especially, postcolonial studies. She has describes herself as a practical
deconstructionist feminist Marxist and as a gadfly . She uses deconstruction to examine how truth
is constructed and to deploy the assertions of one intellectual and political position (such as
Marxism) to interrupt or bring into crisis another (feminism, for example). In her work, she
combines passionate denunciations of the harm done to women, non Europeans, and the poor by
the privileged West with a persistent questioning of the grounds on which radical critique takes its
stand. Her continual interrogation of assumptions can make... Show more content on

As poststructuralism would have it, human consciousness is constructed discursively. Our
subjectivity is constructed by the shifting discourses of power which endlessly speak through us,
situating us here and there in particular positions and relations. In these terms we are not the
authors of ourselves. We do not construct our identities, we have it written for us; the subject
cannot be sovereign over the construction of selfhood. Instead the subject is decentered, in that its
consciousness is always being constructed from positions outside of itself. It follows then that the
individual is not a transparent representation of the self but an effect of discourse. Spivak argues
that surprisingly for these figures, when Foucault and Deleuze talks about oppressed groups such
as the working classes they fall back into precisely these uncritical notions of sovereign subjects
by restoring to them a fully centred consciousness. In addition they also assume that the writing of
intellectuals such as themselves can serve as a transparent medium through which the voices of
the oppressed can be represented. The intellectual is cast as a reliable mediator for the voices of
the oppressed, a mothpiece through which the oppressed can clearly speak. Spivak articulates her
reasons for her worries in the first part of the essay, applying MICHEL FOUCAULT s
understanding of epistemic violence to the remotely orchestrated, far flung, and heterogeneous
project to

Assessing The Internal Audit Function
Assessing the Internal Audit Function
Auditing standards are published by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).
As such, the PCAOB published Auditing Standard Number 5 (AS 5), which recommends
integrating an audit of intern controls with the audit of a firm s financial statements (PCAOBUS,
2007). An auditor s objectives of the internal controls audit and that of the financial statements are
not identical, and the auditor must perform the audits to achieve both objectives.
Internal Audit Objectivity Auditors of a firm s financial statements, be they external or internal
auditors, have the primary objective of providing users of said financial statements with an opinion
on the fairness of reported information to engender the confidence of said users (AICPA, 2012). As
such, auditors must adhere to requirements set forth by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Among such requirements; objectivity
is essential in performing audit duties be they external or internal audit functions. Moreover, in
assessing internal controls and risks to the organization, internal auditors must also conduct
themselves with objectivity and independence (TuЕЎek Pokrovac, 2012). Whereas external
auditors are independent of the firm, internal auditors face more scrutiny of their objectivity as they
are employed directly by the firm of which they audit. Therefore, more important than independence
is objectivity to

Emergency Powers In Canada Research Paper
A hallmark of our great society, that has taken many centuries to perfect, is the concept of
democracy. Not just as a system of government but as a defining set of guidelines for life that all
citizens take pride in living. As citizens of Canada who may have lived their whole lives, as
members of a democratic society most have grown used to the customs and the liberties that society
affords them. But, what if one day all the democratic rights and fundamental freedoms you had
grown used too were suddenly stripped from you? With this question in mind many Canadians
would want to do anything possible to prevent this from happening, which is why many would
agree the emergency powers outlined in the Constitution are a truly dangerous threat to the great

by the Japanese, Canada declared war on the Empire of Japan and thus became increasingly
nervous of Japanese sympathizers living in Canada and especially on the west coast where the
possibility for attack was perceived to be greater. In the name of protection of Canadian citizens the
War Measures Act and the subsequent National Emergency Transitional Powers Act was enacted
and the Governor General adopted three new Orders in Council that were to be taken into effect
immediately. They called for the arrest, detainment, deportation, as well as the seizing of property

The Health Of Health Care Insurance
The eating habits of people in the modern days have led to the increased health complications.
Most people are therefore turning to medical care through specialists such as nutritionists in order
to learn how to keep their bodies healthy. In addition due to the uncertainty of disease attack and its
severity, people have turned to health care insurance. Health care insurance is a medical plan that is
aimed at benefiting an insured person by covering the medical and surgical expenses (Enthoven,
2003).
The insured is the person who is covered by the policy and can be said to be the owner of the
health insurance policy. The provider on the other hand is the specific insurance service provider
and can fall in various categories such as: doctor, clinic, laboratory or pharmacy. Therefore, health
insurance policy in this modern days translates to any payment plans that is meant to cover
emergency procedures and which are mostly of a high cost. Health care insurance in some countries
is included in the employment benefit package as an employment incentive. This is mostly the case
in countries without universal healthcare covers, an example of such is the USA.
Consumers in a way deceive themselves by believing that this medical covers protect their own
health (Enthoven, 2003). The payment plan develops a mindset of total reliance on the medical
industry and medical services instead of focusing on their quality of life. In this view, a need arises
to change the existing philosophies

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche
In Beyond Good and Evil, Friedrich Nietzsche analyzes in a philosophical way what makes one
good or evil. He goes onto explaining the spiritual aspect of one s self and how everything else
flows from it, from one s spirit from the inside. Also, he points out the challenges and struggle one
faces when choosing to follow one s own convictions instead of the ones imposed onto us. I ll go
onto analyzing his choice of words, their meaning in his arguments and how I relate his philosophy
to my own.
In the first line of the first paragraph, with the word beyond Nietzsche portrays that when our
actions are based on love there s no reasoning that could surpass it. It shows that love weights more

Nietzsche argues, there is no right or wrong answer in that. Then, he mentions the wicked game.
These last few months I feel like that s the game I ve been playing, the one in which you choose to
risk it all, even your family s support and defy all odds just to be who you ve been created to be.
The wicked game is the one in which you decide to cross the line of the unspoken rules of
society and once you do, people think you are insane for daring to do what nobody else has
done, for daring to think and act outside of the box they ve made sure you never get out. Daily, it
is a risk I take, to be talk down and being seen as too different. Like Nietzsche himself says, a

Carol Bhakos Abraham Of Many Faiths Analysis
Liam McConnell Dr. Hall Western Religious Traditions 18 September 2016 Abraham of Many
Faiths
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most distinct and well known religions in the
world. They have persisted for generation upon generation and have by far the largest number of
followers of all religions in the world. They also share some interesting similarities in their
foundational stories. Where did these faiths originate, and why do they share many aspects while
differing on still more? Carol Bakhos lays this out very well in The Family of Abraham and
explains her thoughts on the similarities and differences the influential figure of Abraham shares
within these three faiths. Abraham is recognized globally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should
not identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse
than others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have
placed distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of
thinking that places some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more
or less as equals. That is not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their
mothers live in the abode of Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the
sole important figure while Ishmael becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by
Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an
insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is the one giving birth to the first son of
Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much more docile role after being
spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same religions, however, disagree
with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar, rather, Ishmael was the
one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two religions place very clear
distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct branches, intimating that
some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all with this belief and I
agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into. While it is true
that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be regarded

The ballista, or shield piercer, was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a
bow and arrow. Its primary use was to, as the name suggests, pierce enemy shields, since normal
bows lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is
nothing more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body. http:/

Using this relationship assumes that the force constant is constant, or that moving the arms back 2
meters gives twice the force that moving them back 1 meter would do, which is most likely not
correct, but close enough for a general assumption of the force to be made. When the force is
applied, the projectile is accelerated to the end of the ballista, at which point it released with a
velocity v and an angle q from the horizontal. The velocity can be found using the kinematic
equation v2=2ax, where a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile
is accelerated upon. Since F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2
kdx/m. After it is released, the projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air
resistance. Therefore, the range of the ballista can be given by the equation
R=v2sin2q/g,
where g is the accleration due to gravity.

The Characteristics Of Bipedalism In Humans
Bipedalism, a locomotion that consist of the two lower limbs to move. This can be found in many
animals, but it is considered more optional than mandatory as a way to transport. Some use it as a
defense mechanism. In humans, it is one of the special characteristics that is used to differentiate
the humanspecies from the rest of the Hominidaefamily. Only humans have mandatory
bipedalism. Other characteristics include massive brain size and the ability to make and use
tools (Lovejoy,1988). It was discussed that because of going from quadrupedal to bipedal it
cause many advancements such as brain development. Bipedalism was the biggest evolutionary
change for the human ancestors. Nobody really knows the origins of bipedalism, but there are
some theories that might explain it. It can be the freeing of hands to use tools or to hold and
carry resources or offspring. It can be change of habitat from woodland to plain or use of defense
mechanism to look beyond the plains for predators at further distance. It can also be energy
efficient and to run longer more easier compare to quadrupedalism. Bipedalism gave many
advantages with the change of human body, mainly the skeletal structure, but is it possible that
some of these changes have tradeoffs? Some scientists believe that certain illnesses, injuries, and
health complication are the results of the change of skeletal structure to become bipedal. There are
disadvantages for bipedalism and it can differ between male and

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient
sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but
also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood
accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who
asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was
upon it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states
that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground
water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry
up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did
not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and
six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up.
Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a
swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both
Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in
different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out and multiply while Utnapishtim
was made a god and given eternal life.
It is believed that the flood story in the Bible occurred first although it was recorded at a later time

Thus, it is recommendable to
McDonald s to extend its operating hours to 24 hours a day to cater late night activist, especially in
big cities. Additionally, McDonald s could acquire dining specialists or consultants who could help
McDonald s to penetrate into the dinner market without risking its existing business model for fast
food while benefiting from the profit arising from investing in established dinner specialists.
After successfully coped with the mentioned hurdles, McDonald s did not interpret the rising call
for protecting the world s environment as a threat, but as another opportunity and soon
implemented a responsible environmental policy into its evolving operations strategy. Moreover,
though, McDonald s could show further support by using environmental friendly material and solar
energy heater, introducing healthier food as well as sponsoring environmental protection events.
All these efforts not only can enhance McDonald s image on the one hand but also can boost its
sales and reduce operating costs on the other.
All in all, the case has shown that although McDonald s needed to adopt to certain industry changes
in order to sustain its market position, it still offers its standardized core products and benefits from

In The Purpose Driven God says Every human on this Earth has a purpose. Nobody was put here

The liver is a key organ when it comes to making the body function properly (National Digestive

Cirrhosis of the Liver but these are the most common. All of these symptoms help in the
detection of this horrible disease. The faster Cirrhosis is detected, the better off the person s
chances of survival are. However, there is no cure for Cirrhosis of the Liver and depending on the
cause of the disease, some treatments can slow down the progression and minimize damage to
liver cells, (Digestive Disorders Health Center Cirrhosis of the Liver, 2008).
Cirrhosis of the Liver can be detected in a few ways. One way is testing. A physical exam, blood

The Nature Of Hofstede s Cultural Framework And...
Introduction
This essay is divided into several parts with different objectives. First part discusses the nature of
Hofstede s cultural framework and highlights similarities and differences with GLOBE study.
Second part of the essay equates author s scores for each of Hofstede s cultural dimension with
national benchmark of Lithuania. Last part focuses on potential problems an individual with strong
Australian background might need to deal with while working at company in Shanghai.
Discussion of cultural frameworks
Hofstede defines culture as the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the
members of one human group from another . (Kirkman, Lowe Gibson, 2006, p. 286). He started his
research in the 1960 s, by examining the concept of culture within one of the largest multinational
companies in the world IBM. Thousands of interviews were held across 66 countries, although
results were only used from only 40. As a result of his investigation, four dimensions of culture were
identified: individualism collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance and masculinity
femininity. Years later Hofstede and Bond added another dimension, long term orientation.
(Hofstede and Bond 1988). First dimension, power distance is defined as the extent of willingness
that societies accept the hierarchical power structure (Morrison 2006). Cultures, which are
considered low power distance, tend to have preferences towards equality and decentralization of

Abina and the Important Men
Abina and the Important Men: a Graphical History was written by Trevor R. Getz and Liz Clarke.
The story of Abina Mansah is somewhat an inspiring graphical history based on an 1876 court
transcript. Abina, a woman of West Africa, was wrongfully enslaved and as a consequence, she
took her former master, Quamina Eddoo, to court. The overall setting took place on the Gold Coast
during the 19th century. The main scenes take place in the court room, which is filled with many
important men. The men included a British judge, two Euro African attorneys, countrymen, and an
entire jury of wealthy, high class local town leaders. This book is broken down into several parts;

Davis reminded Abina that even though all were free, Eddoo was an important man and the British
didn t like to alienate important men. Following, the magistrate, William Melton, agreed to hear the
case and sent at Quamina Eddoo on the charge of slavery. The trial started and Abina was
questioned as to why she believed she was a slave. Abina responded saying, They held me down,
and cut my beads, and I was told that I was to be their amperley their slave. (Chapter 2, page 24)
Throughout the court case and Abina s flashback to the court, the men of the court strived to
somehow imposed their own meanings and understandings of slavery upon Abina and silence her.
As mentioned earlier, Abina wanted to punish her master, Eddoo for wrongly enslaving her.
Abina wasn t as educated as the important men hearing her case, but she truly believed she was a
slave. She expressed herself in her own language which wasn t clearly understood by the
important men of the court. Because she lacked education causing her to contradict, become
confused or inaccurately answer the questions, Eddoo s lawyer and the men began to create a
difference between being a slave and acting upon free will like a slave. The magistrate, Mr.
Melton, asked Abina if during her stay with Eccoah and Quamina Eddoo, was she compelled to
work against her will. (Chapter 3, page

The Role Of Fate In Medieval Literature
THE ROLE OF FATE IN THE DESIRES OF MEN IN MEDIEVAL LITERATURE Two of the
most common themes found in many medieval literature are those of desire and fate. Sometimes
these themes are explicitly explored by authors to illustrates their understanding or to make a point
about them. Other times the authors make implicit, nuanced suggestions through the plot of their
tales that allows the readers to discover their own understandings about two and to make
connections between them. Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Tale, as well as Thomas of England s Le
Roman de Tristanand Marie de France s Lanval do just that. These three pieces of medieval
literature present a unique connection between the desires of men and the role of fate. Wommen

In Le Roman de Tristan and Isolde, Tristan is in lovewith Isolte, who healed his mortal battle
wounds but later became wife to King Mark of Cornwall. Tristan and Isolde engage in a secretive
love affair that results in banishment and tragedy. Through the duration of the tale, Tristan is so
driven by his love and lust for Isolte that engages in deceiving his king and risking grave
punishment. However, one could argue that Tristan is not driven humanly desire but by the
magical force of the potion that was accidentally given to him and Isolte by Brangein. It is the
potion that had caused them to fall deeply in love with each other and could be driving Tristan s
desire. Although this is a valid assumption, it can be refuted by the fact that towards the end of the
tale we are told that the effects of the potion eventually wear off, but we know Tristan continues to
have feelings of love and lust for Isolde even after this point is made.
The best way to decide what desires drive Tristan to behave as he does is to examine the reasons
that led him to certain circumstances. In other words, what workings of fate are also a driving
force for his desires? For example, what led to his meeting with Isolde? Early in the tale we learn
that Tristan becomes a vassal of King Mark; But my body I give up to King Mark. I

United States Pipeline Industry
Pipeline transportation has been around for many years and is very contributory to the United
States transportation system. According to Pipeline101 (2016d), the use of pipelines for oil
transport has been around since the 19th century (p. 1). The first pipes only went a short
distance, and delivered oil from drill holes directly to tanks or refineries (Pipeline101, 2016d,
p.1). As the demand for products increased, so did the pipeline industry. During the 1860s, pipe
material changed from cast or wrought iron to steel (Pipeline101, 2016d, p.1). In the beginning of
the 20th century, the oil business shift from kerosene lamp oil to gasoline in an effort to keep up
with the rise of automobile production (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). After some successful years of
business, the Federal government felt the need for involvement and passed the Valuation Act in
1913 as their first attempt in the ratemaking (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). Within twenty years crude
oil pipes were running across most of the nation (Pipeline101, 2016b, p. 1). Just as things were
going well, oil production declined throughout the lower states and the petroleumsupply was
mostly derived from Canada and overseas (Pipeline101, 2016c, p. 1). Companies in the Gulf
Coast, California, and the Mid West, quickly assisted (Pipeline101, 2016c, p. 1). In 1968 another
concern arose, how to transport oil through the frigid mountains of Alaska. After much research and
work, in 1977, the Trans Alaska Pipeline was

Jeff Kennett Gargoyle:
The Jeff Kennet Gargoyle is above the Eastern Transept. When you look up you will see two
strange faces carved in stone! One is a lion, the other is a man.
Gargoyles in Gothic Cathedrals were once thought of as protecting the building from evil spirits,
they also serve as water spouts.
For years Jeff Kennet (a former premier) was rumoured to have been the model for the gargoyle, as
the facial features are so similar. Tom Carson (the master stonemason) said, just a whim but in
keeping with a centuries old tradition .
Mr Carson also said that stone makers use lots of people in positions of power as muses for their
gargoyles.
It took Mr Carson 6 weeks to make the gargoyle. Around the cathedral you will also notice lots of
other gargoyles resembling animals or creatures.

Women In The Bayeux Tapestry
The Bayeux Tapestry was produced shortly after the Conquest of England in 1066. Shichtman
writes that throughout the Middle Ages both churchmen as well as secular writers were attempting
to come to terms with a conception of time and history still undergoing revision. This Tapestry tries
to grapple with recording history in the Middle Ages, as it details the Story of William the
Conqueror defeating Harold the Earl of Wessex at the Battle of Hastings. While the Tapestry depicts
numerous men, who participated in this historical event, the artist only include six women in the

Kraus continues later that there was equal division of his possessions between male and female

members in society if they worked or had land. These charters provided women with wider
aspirations in an otherwise male dominated society. The Doomsday Book recorded that three

records how a Yorkshire woman named Asa held her land separate and free from the lordship

Social Entrepreneurship And Its Impact On Society
Over the last few decades entrepreneurship has become the way many people have chosen to for
their career paths. There are different types of entrepreneurship but there is one in particular that
seem to be evolving in the world of business and it is social entrepreneurship. Social
entrepreneurship has allowed the opportunity for change, considering the ever changing economy
we live in today. Social entrepreneurship focuses on not for profit in order to create social value,
encourage socially responsible practices in current businesses and provides social solutions to
social problems. Social enterpriseis the tool that is used to create social values and meet the social
needs. Even though social entrepreneurship sounds like it is charity it is not because it combines
social and commercial goals and as a result, solves some of the social problems. Social
entrepreneurs take part in a procedure that involves consistent development, adoption and learning.
By having these segments, social entrepreneurs are able to work without being confined to assets.
Even though most cases of social entrepreneurship start out rather small, their drives have a huge
impact on the world s issues. Some of those examples include access to clean water, unemployment
rates, chronic sickness and disease and crime. This paper will address the social entrepreneurship
origin, characteristics and the contrast of social entrepreneurship in the United Statesversus other

ASL Challenge Paper
ASL is more than a language; it is a miracle. I find myself often perplexed by the difficulty that
must have come with making a language solely from hands. It is amazing that there was a
nationwide speaking of the hands for the deaf community and anyone who is interested to learn
can join in easily, but only if they can hoop over some of the languages major challenges. In the
article Why is Learning American Sign Languagea Challenge? by Professor Mike Kent, he

Patience is key.
The final challenge is that there are two types of motivations that gives people the will to learn
sign language. These people fall into 2 categories. One, instrumental motivation is for all those
people that want to benefit in there career with another language or are asked to take classes for
a job. This person will just go to pass the tests but will quickly learn and forget the language. Even
in our case as students it is technically an intellectual motivation for our degree but for many there
is an actual reason they wanted to take ASL. When there is an outside motivation people are
categorized as integratively motivated learners. These people have a significant person in their life
that is deaf and only communicates through ASL or a friend or a colleague. Their motivation is
stronger and the language will stick with them longer.
If I had to choose one of the above 5 most challenging things about ASL, my personal challenge
would be congruence and culture. As the article mentioned sometimes ASL can feel like a
revolving door that becomes too late to enter if you miss some parts for new learners. I have
found myself feeling this way often. Once a conversation starts going at (which often seem
hyper speed) I feel helpless because I don t know what s going on when I miss important parts of
the conversation. I find it also very challenging to not want to use my voice as I sign. I know deaf

Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration

Introduction
Political issues relating to immigration have long been a concern since migrating into the United
States became so called illegal in the late 1880s. In reality, immigration was barely regulated until
the early 1920s when congress passed a Quota Law limiting the amount of people allowed to enter
the country annually. Just how immigrants stormed into the United States then, we continue to
struggle today in enforcing immigration laws and procedures, protecting our borders from
undocumented personnel and, most recent, terrorist threats. The following will describe the current
political issues regarding immigration and will focus on a few aspects of the problems the U.S is
attempting to adapt and overcome.
Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration In recent weeks, the United States has been
swamped with illegal aliens attempting to enter the country illegally from Mexico, South and
Central America, through South Texas, the high majority being unaccompanied alien children. The
United Nations report found that the main reasons children made the dangerous trips to the border
were to join relatives in the United States, they wanted to flee violence in their countries and flee
abuse in the home ( Undocumented immigrants to leave El Paso while cases are pending El Paso
Times ). In 2012, President Obama enacted the Deferred

From the Ground Up: Administrative Foundations A positive classroom environment and climate is
of paramount importance to the collective learning experience. A well managed classroom
improves student concentration, increases the effectiveness of instruction, and maximizes learning.
A poorly managed classroom invites interruptions, distractions, and wastes valuable time and

communication methods are more likely to gain the respect of their students (Conroy, Sutherland,

Important Characters in “Abina and the Important Men” by...
Do you think besides literature have another ways to display history? Can historians show you the

William Meltonare most important characters in the story because they represent different
hierarchies in the society and display different condition in these hierarchies. Abina is a main
character in the story. She reflects most African girls living in a low social status. The first reason
that she is a very important character in the story is she escaped from her master to find help. In
that period, British issued a law that slaves are repealed. Because British controlled West Africa,
the citizens needed to comply with the law. However, Abina was sold to Quamina Eddoo by her
older master even though she did not see money transactions. When her new master compelled her
to marry his servant, she escaped and find James Davis. She was a bright girl. She understood
what the law was, so she did not surrender her master instead of found help. Even though she was
in the lowest social status, she still ran for her right. Secondly, she prosecuted her master in a

Essay about A Sorrowful Woman by Gail Godwin
In a world usually depicted as a man s world, a woman s role is not considered as significant and
thus can be repressed. It is why a feminist perspective or criticism comes into place, especially in
literature. By definition, a feminist criticism consist of scrutinizing the ways in which literature

Christian Persecution In The Early Church
For the third year in a row, the modern persecution of Christians worldwide has hit another record

letters to the Emperor Trajan, explaining his methods in hopes of approval. In one of his most
famous letters, he wrote, Meanwhile, in the case of those who were denounced to me as Christians,
I have observed the following procedure: I interrogated these as to whether they were Christians;
those who confessed I interrogated a second and a third time, threatening them with punishment;
those who persisted I ordered executed (Pliny on the Christians). Martyrs were very common at
this point in time. Granted, people would deny Christ in order to keep their lives, but many more

Military Base Personnel and Use of the Samsung Wireless Phone
Objective
The objective of this study is to investigate the use of the Samsung wireless phone among military
base personnel.
Introduction
This study intends to examine the use of the Samsung wireless phone among military base
personnel and to determine their satisfaction with the use of the Samsung wireless phone.
Methodology
The methodology used in the research is of a qualitative nature and will involve the use of the
instrument of a questionnaire devised to ascertain the level of satisfaction of military personnel
with the use of the Samsung wireless phone
Literature Review
In a May, 2005, report Samsung was reported to hold the place for the wireless phone
manufacturer whose devices consumers are most likely to purchase during the next 18 to 24
months for four years straight and was reported by the American Customer Satisfaction Index
(ACSI) study to be the leader in customer satisfaction among cell phone manufacturers for the
second year in a row. (Sprint Users, 2005, p.1)
In a recent report by Bloomberg Business Week on May 21, 2013 that Apple Inc. s iPhonelost
ground to Samsung Electronics Co. and Google Inc. s Motorola in an annual study measuring the
satisfaction of consumers В¦ (Moritz, 2013, p.1) The report states that Samsung has witnessed a
surge in demand for its devices. (Moritz, 2013, p.1) Samsung is reported to have climbed 7
percent to 76 from 71. (Moritz, 2013, p.1) According

Nonrational Decision Making
In this case, there was absolutely the nonrational model of decision making being displayed. The
nonrational model of decision making displayed in this case caused major damage to our planet
s ocean life and killed workers that were on the oil rig. Nonrational decision making tries to
explain how decisions are made (Kreitner Kinicki). In this case, the two companies, BP and
Transocean Ltd made a nonrational decision by allowing the oil rig to continue to operate
knowing that there was a problem with it. Their decision making was bounded rationally which
means the decision makers wanted to make the decision is a rational way but were restricted by
constraints (de Farias Godoi, 2009). In this case, the top two workers for each company inquired a
personal issue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing that there was an issue, these top employees decided to decline the issue and move on
with operations. The proper solutions were not created to stop this disaster before it began to
happen. They did not optimize at all during their decision making which caused lives to be lost
and our ocean to be covered in oil killing many marine and land animals. Also, the top employees
displayed to the world the true meaning of the garbage can model which is broken down into four
streams of events.
In conclusion, these two companies did not complete the steps to making a rational decision
which led to a disaster. This disaster was all over the news and cost both companies millions of
dollars in clean up and a new oil rig. As managers, it is important for us to ensure that we make a
rational decision so we can obtain a positive outcome. In this case, there was no positive outcome
because there were careless leadership mistakes and irrational decision making. The workers on the
rig did not help the situation either by pumping sea water to clear out

The Equitable Change Of The Voting And Race Laws
The equitable change of the voting and race laws, widening the suffrage and equivalent rights for
every single white male, were consistent augmentations of the belief system of the American
Revolution. These rights, be that as it may, were not stretched out to ladies or free dark individuals.
A religious recovery development called the Second Great Awakening, drove by Methodists and
Baptists, changed the religious scene. Another political gathering, the Democrats, had blended
around Andrew Jackson, coming full circle in his race as President in 1828 and disparaging the
Adams organization s vision of patriotism. The 1828 race was a watershed in constituent history,
engaging the masses and focusing on identities, not issues.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the event that a voter needed financial autonomy, then it appeared that the individuals who
controlled his work could undoubtedly control his vote.
Humorously, pretty much as mechanical pay work made ward workers on a substantial new
scale, the more seasoned republican duty to propertied voters dropped out of support. As
property necessities for voting were annulled, financial status vanished as an establishment for
citizenship. By 1840 more than 90 percent of grown up white men had the privilege to vote.
Religion and freedom is a topic so critical and (in the First Amendment) an outcome so pivotal that
it is hard to envision causal associations being overlooked in the pre Revolutionary period.
However, that has been to a great extent the case as British approach and practice have been
investigated solely from the point of view of political oppression or financial misuse. Carl
Bridenbaugh has convincingly indicated how extraordinary was the provincial trepidation of a
ministerial oppression designed by the Church of England. Conceived in destitution, Andrew
Jackson (1767 1845) had turned into a rich Tennessee legal advisor and rising youthful government
official by 1812, when war broke out between the United States and Britain. His administration in
that contention earned Jackson national distinction as a military saint, and he would turn into
America s most influential and polarizing political figure amid the 1820s and 1830s. After

A Report On The Swiss Confederation
In 1291, the Swiss Confederation was founded. In 1499, the Swiss Confederation obtained
independence from the Holy Roman Empire. Finally, in 1848, a constitution was created that
replaced the confederation with a centralized federal government. Today, the Swiss Confederation
is most commonly known as Switzerland, one of the world s richest and most innovative countries
(The World Factbook: SWITZERLAND). In efforts to determine whether our firm should pursue
business engagements in Switzerland, I, Paula Cuerquis, Senior Macroeconomist at our
multinational corporation, created a report that outlines the overall macroeconomic conditions of
the country of interest. In this report, I will be providing an assessment of Switzerland s current...

An example of this problematic dependence occurred in 2008 during the global financial crisis that
resulted in the economic downturn in 2009. During this time, the demand for Swiss goods
plummeted putting Switzerland into a recession. While the Swiss National Bank, SNC,
implemented a zero interest rate policy that rejuvenated the economy, the domino effect that
occurred due to this economic downturn resulted in the strength of the Swiss franc but also
weakened the competition for trade and weakened the economy s growth outlook (The World
Factbook: Switzerland). As you can see in the image to the right, as of 2015, 43.4% of Swiss
exports are generated by the European Union (Switzerland Country Profile). An important thing
to note here is that the Swiss economy is open to foreign investment. According to Heritage.org,
Switzerland ranks a score, out of 95.0, of 90.0 in regards to Trade Freedom, 85.0 in Investment
Freedom, and an increasing 90.0 score in regards to Financial Freedom. Sitzerland s capitalizes
on their openness to trade with industrial products but with a protected agricultural sector
(Switzerland). Forbes ranked Switzerland #16 as one of the best countries for business. Moving
forward, like I touched upon earlier, with a population of 8.1 million people, it s astonishing how
only 4.6% of Switzerland s labor force is unemployed. Switzerland averages wages of $58,389 (US
dollar), employment rates of 81.3%

Mountaintop Mining Is Bad
Mountains, animals, and the environment are what makes Earth beautiful. But horrible things are
destroying the Earth s beauty with mountaintop mining being a prime example. Mountaintop
mining is horrible because it destroys ecosystems and damages biodiversity over an extreme scale.
Aquatic life is literally suffocated by the waste rock thrown into valleys and gorges. For instance,
an article by NASA stated that The waste rock from the mountain is dumped into valleys and
pollutes water/stream beds, causing a decline in aquatic life. The pollutioncan create genetic
mutations in fish and raises the amount of metal in streams. This affects the wildlife around the
streams and humans, too. In fact, the article Bad Rock: How Mountaintop Removal Mining Can
Damage Streams says Many streams are buried under tens to hundreds of meters of waste rock.
The streams that are buried are home to many different aquatic species, but they are being killed
because of the demand for coal. Many streams and animals are being killed, and it s advancing
throughout the land. Too many acres of biodiversity has been damaged. For example, NASA made

coal is burned) can combine with fog that makes it difficult for us to breath. CO2 is also a

Becoming An Automotive Automaker
Any time a revolutionary new technology is introduced, a period of plethoric propagation follows.
It was no different during the rise of automobiles in the embryonic Twentieth Century. Up until
October 24th, 1929 (Black Thursday (the stock Market Crash)), the only thing standing between an
engineer and an automaker; was creativity, talent and drive.
People were essentially popping out of the woodworks trying to make it inside the (mangled )
metaphoric; automotive winners cabin. At the time the technology was so avant garde that there
were no known pitfalls to circumvent.
Automakers were rewarded by investors with reckless abandonment. The only requisite necessary
for an automotive engineer seeking an investor, was a functioning product. There ... Show more

The main focus was big picture: does it drive? Automakers were racing to race. Just make a car as
fast as possible, and make sure it is faster than our rivals.
The notion of a lemon had not been contemplated, so prospective automakers were solely
interested in getting an automobile on the market. The way they saw it, as long as they did not
have a product to push someone else was stealing their sales.
Moreover, there was little to no product verification in the first moiety of the 1900s. Our consumer
protection was the legal equivalent of no takesies backsies, so if/when patrons had problems with
their product the response was breviloquent at best.
And to be clear, the automakers did not act out of malice, nor is it my intent to demonize any one or
even that particular era of automaking. One cannot condemn those who genuinely did not know
any better.
In the early era of automakers, simply making an automobile was an act of genius. The acuity of
automotive foresight was impossible due to a lack of (eventual) evidence and objective assurity.
Furthermore, this Era led to automaker proliferation; which in turn accelerated automotive
evolution, and expedited progress via profuse

Analysis Of Crane And American Manhood
Crane, as evidenced by his interest in the military, did not object to war, but rather, Casey writes, to
the previous generations monopoly of it and with that monopoly their stranglehold over the cultural
conceptions of American manhood (18). Civil War veterans believed that the younger generation of
men was both soft and ignorant of the world s brutality, and since they had not been exposed to war,
the young men were considered to be less masculine. Casey explains the younger generation s
frustration with these beliefs, Men like Stephen Crane, who grew up long after the war had ended,
felt a sense of belatedness when confronted by veterans claims to cultural superiority and
uniqueness. To the younger generation these claims suggested that true manhood was no longer
available even though society argued that it was necessary for full citizenship (2). The younger
generation was given a contradictory message that said they were supposed to have traditional
masculine qualities as part of society, yet, at the same time, they were denied the acknowledgement
of these qualities by the older generation of veterans. Casey writes, Civil Warveterans, both in the
novel and in the larger culture, seemed wholly unwilling to relinquish their authority, thereby
blocking the path to adult manhood for the rising generation (4). Red Badge, then, contains Crane s
representation of the struggle for manhood between the younger generation and the aging Civil War
veterans in the

Comparing Film The Ghost And The Darkness
The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 American ancient adventure film supervised by Stephen
Hopkins and starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. The film is constructed on The Man
Eaters of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson, the man who literally killed both real lions. While the
real man feeders were, like all the lions from the Tsavo region, a more hostile, maneless diversity,
those used for filming were literally the least hostile available, for both security and equisite
reasons. The lions in the films were two male lions with manes. The lions were brothers named
Caesar and Bongo, who were inhabitants of the Bowmanville Zoo in Bowmanville, Ontario,
Canada, both of brothers were also marked in George of the Jungle. The film also marked three
other lions: two lions from France and one lion from the USA. In the film, both the lions are
pictured having manes. In the reality, the man feeders lacked manes, as male Tsavo lions hold
either minimum manes or none at all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie or film is based on an amazing true story. In 1898 two African lions, locally known as
The Ghost and The Darkness , mudered a number of employers on the East Africa Rail road at
the Tsavo River and stopped the project until the workers were hunted down and report by a
British supervisor. The event was described in the book titled The Man feeders of Tsavo which
became, in 1996, the basis for a film starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. Today, the
ascended taxidermy skins of two lions are on the display in the Field Museum in Chicago. In
1996, Patterson s 1907 book, The Man Eaters of Tsavo, was modified into a Hollywood
screenplay sub titled The Ghost and the Darkness , which gazed Val Kilmer as Patterson and
Michael Douglas as a fictional big game hunter personality Charles

Basic Crisis Intervention Theory
Critical Incident The critical incident I will be discussing is a house fire that occurred recently in
my neighborhood. The owner of the home Samantha was sleeping downstairs on the couch and
was able to get out of the fire with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the Samantha s boyfriend was
sleeping upstairs and died in the fire. This tragic event not only took Samantha s home but her
loved one and possessions. I have selected the Basic CrisisIntervention Theory because I believe it
fits best with this crisis.
Basic Crisis Intervention Theory Basic crisis intervention theory focuses on individuals who are
suffering a loss (James Gilliland, 2017). In this case, Samantha has lost her loved one and her
home. She is suffering several losses at one time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time of disequilibrium, an individual becomes vulnerable to deterioration (Lewis
Roberts, 2001). There are four stages that occurs when individuals are in a state of emotional
disequilibrium, which are disturbed equilibrium, brief therapy or grief work, working through the
grief, and restoration of equilibrium (James Gilliland, 2017). It is essential to guide Samantha
through her crisis by working on her grief and restoration and balance of her emotional equilibrium.
Crisis Intervention
In basic crisis intervention theory, the client s behavior and response to the crisis is normal and
only temporary (James Gilliland, 2017). The grief behaviors that the client may display are
preoccupation with loss, identification with the lost one, guilt and hostility, disorganization in daily
routine, and somatic complaints (James Gilliland, 2017). It is critical for the counselor to work
with Samantha through her grief behaviors and implement an intervention. There is a 7 stage crisis
intervention model that Samantha will progress through as she continues counseling. The first
stage is to plan a Biopsychosocial and lethality danger assessment

Spider Monkeys In Anthropology
The article I chose is about spider monkeys and a problem scientists have found with their
grooming habits. Since these monkeys are endangered, scientist were studying ways to keep them
healthy before they all die off. It was found that by grooming each other, they are getting off
parasites on the skin but also ones from inside. These parasites can be found on dead skin that the
other monkeys end up pulling off during grooming which then transmits to the groomer. Since the
monkeys don t stay around the same group all the time, this parasite gets transmitted more easily
and quickly. Now scientist can begin to work on trying to save these monkeys and other endangered
primates with this new information. The field of anthropology being described

Later on the Time Traveler finally had finally finished his last touches on the time machine, and

itself sounds like the word elite, and Morlock is a perfect word to describe a cruel, ruthless ape like
creature. Everything about these two beings points toward the Time Traveler s theory that he is

positions. As we later find out, there are two distinct classes, set in their ways to the point where
there is no social exchange, but it is not the Eloi who rule the Morlocks. However, Morlocks

Deakins Symbolism In The Film sicario
Sicario (2015) directed by Denis Villeneuve and cinematography by Roger Deakins was filmed to
capture the intensity of life behind the drug world and the political world. Sicario is filmed with a
realistic portrayal utilizing director Villeneuve s characteristic themes, cinematographer Deakins
effective techniques, and the filmstars: Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro submerging
themselves into their characters. The film s implicit perspective demonstrates the position of the
leftist. Sicario is an brilliant example of how film can use symbolism to subconsciously capture an

Actual mirrors and/or reflections are a reoccurring theme throughout to symbolize the moral
boundaries of society and to signify that by inverting an image you are obtaining it s opposite
position. Blunt s character in the beginning of the film attempting to look at herself in a steamed
up mirror, symbolizing the unclear future and her examination of her own moral boundaries.
Glass tables utilized in several frames for reflection of light and/or to reverse an image such as
Blunt s character looking at the wrist band which conveys the appearance of innocent when in
fact it is actually a sign of corruption. In another scene, we get an over view of Blunt rubbing her
wrists, after being attacked, in the sink from both the regular view and the reflection in the mirror,
this symbolizes the doubt that Blunt s character is having about her own capabilities and
weaknesses. Del Toro s character enters to make sure Blunt s character is okay and Blunt s back is
reflected in the mirror symbolizing that she should be watching her back while dealing with Del
Toro character. Throughout this film, the horizon is set one third from the top of the frame instead
of the middle of it, giving us the impression that the landscape is symbolizing the weight of the
world; it also symbolizes the oppression experienced by Blunt s character throughout the film. The

the soldiers knew they were entering a deathtrap. The question to ask is; should there have been a

  • 2. The Mediation of The Concept of Balance in the Tao Te... The mediation of the concept of balance in the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu; The way is cluttered with constant imagery of contradictory views which are both compelling and insightful, through which we are taken on a journey, our final destination being the true meaning of life. In a world where we are all yearning for the meaning for life, true harmony and real balance it is no surprise that the Tao Te Chingis a very haunting piece of literature that holds the reader in an almost trans like state of mind as it attempts to portray the way to accomplish the above. The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The opening two lines of this collection of 81 proverbial chapters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However simultaneously during this time of anarchy and imperialism there were many different cultural and religious sects forming in China. This provides the modern day reader with one of the main obstacles from fully comprehending the text seeing as it cannot be approached from a mere linguistic point of view, as to do this a comparison between various translations would be necessary. Having said this, to overlook the one link in all of the translations would be impossible. That being the image of equilibrium it tries to obtain by putting forward two almost totally opposing concepts and within them making the reader to ponder on it for a while and sieve out the rightful meaning. Which makes it almost like mathematical formula that just has to be applied, this is present in the translation of the Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchell and Stanley Lombardo also in the translation done by Thomas Cleary and C. Lau. A clear example of this sense of equilibrium is in the second chapter as is talks about the necessity of the presence of both extremes so that one can appreciate both, invariably proving that the only way to recognize things is to accept the opposite of it, be it a good or bad thing. It is a simple equation of comparison plus balance which equals to tranquil understanding but the real task is putting that into practice. Therefore having and not having arise together. Lets just say when he was younger my dad was not the smartest kid, when it came to doing stupid things but then what 10 year old is. So this 4th of july my dad was hanging out with his brother Trent also with his cousins Nick, Jason, Jared, Danny and Monica. Well in his family every year they would by tons of fireworks for the 4th, well this year they decided to play capture the flag with the fireworks. Lets just say that was not the best idea in the world. Let the game begin, my dad yelled as the first game started. Both teams had hidden their flags on either side of the house up on Jean Street where my dad was living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let the game begin Jared said and so it did. Immediately both teams ran to the boundary where they would wait for someone to cross. This time is Danny to make the same move as my dad did but Danny was to confident. The greatest thing for my dad was that Danny was the one that my dad needed to get back at. So as Danny sprinted up the hill to the deck where the flag was, my dad chased after him. When Danny got into range my dad lit the firework taped onto his hand and let it go. The firework flew out of his hand like a bullet out of a gun. My dad got what he wanted and a lot more. The firework struck Danny right in the middle of his back. Not only did it burn Danny s back it melted his shirt to it! Poor Danny just dropped to the ground crying and bawling his eyes out. When they heard the crying the parents all rush out of the house to see what was going on they say Danny laying on the ground with his shirt melted to his back. They started yelling at my dad, especially my Grandpa Blake who said some colorful things. My dad also started to cry because only being ten and all he was still a little kid. Well at least one good thing came out of it, Trent oblivious to what had just happened ran and grabbed the flag from the other team and ran back to his side. At least they won the game right. • 4. Challenging But Rewarding World Of A Hotel Manager Challenging yet Rewarding World of a Hotel Manager The hotel industry is one of the most important segments of the Hospitality in large. Working in hotels allows its employees to have fun, emerge in new cultures on a daily basis and be able to advance further in the career. The lodging industry is one of the most rewarding, yet most challenging fields to work for. Confucius once said Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life . Some people will choose this career path in need of money, but those who choose it out of passion will understand the power in the saying above. The lodging industry is a more than $155 billion industry that includes approximately 53,000 properties with almost 5,000,000 guestrooms (Walker, 2015, p. 76). This field is continuously growing due to the trend of using management contracts and franchising, since it allows brands to expand rapidly without using their own financial resources (Walker, 2015, p. 76). In today s technology driven society it is more important to deliver and over exceed guest expectations than ever. The influence of social media has increased drastically, which can either help or hurt the business due positive or negative word of mouth. Working in a hotel takes a lot of courage, hard work and perseverance, but it also takes a lot of passion, love and hospitality spirit to overcome difficult situations. The purpose of this research paper is to explore the career of a hotel general manager in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Can the Subaltern Speak Summary Can the Subaltern Speak? Summary Gayatri Spivak Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is an unsettling voice in literary theory and especially, postcolonial studies. She has describes herself as a practical deconstructionist feminist Marxist and as a gadfly . She uses deconstruction to examine how truth is constructed and to deploy the assertions of one intellectual and political position (such as Marxism) to interrupt or bring into crisis another (feminism, for example). In her work, she combines passionate denunciations of the harm done to women, non Europeans, and the poor by the privileged West with a persistent questioning of the grounds on which radical critique takes its stand. Her continual interrogation of assumptions can make... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As poststructuralism would have it, human consciousness is constructed discursively. Our subjectivity is constructed by the shifting discourses of power which endlessly speak through us, situating us here and there in particular positions and relations. In these terms we are not the authors of ourselves. We do not construct our identities, we have it written for us; the subject cannot be sovereign over the construction of selfhood. Instead the subject is decentered, in that its consciousness is always being constructed from positions outside of itself. It follows then that the individual is not a transparent representation of the self but an effect of discourse. Spivak argues that surprisingly for these figures, when Foucault and Deleuze talks about oppressed groups such as the working classes they fall back into precisely these uncritical notions of sovereign subjects by restoring to them a fully centred consciousness. In addition they also assume that the writing of intellectuals such as themselves can serve as a transparent medium through which the voices of the oppressed can be represented. The intellectual is cast as a reliable mediator for the voices of the oppressed, a mothpiece through which the oppressed can clearly speak. Spivak articulates her reasons for her worries in the first part of the essay, applying MICHEL FOUCAULT s understanding of epistemic violence to the remotely orchestrated, far flung, and heterogeneous project to ... • 6. Assessing The Internal Audit Function Assessing the Internal Audit Function Auditing standards are published by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). As such, the PCAOB published Auditing Standard Number 5 (AS 5), which recommends integrating an audit of intern controls with the audit of a firm s financial statements (PCAOBUS, 2007). An auditor s objectives of the internal controls audit and that of the financial statements are not identical, and the auditor must perform the audits to achieve both objectives. Internal Audit Objectivity Auditors of a firm s financial statements, be they external or internal auditors, have the primary objective of providing users of said financial statements with an opinion on the fairness of reported information to engender the confidence of said users (AICPA, 2012). As such, auditors must adhere to requirements set forth by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Among such requirements; objectivity is essential in performing audit duties be they external or internal audit functions. Moreover, in assessing internal controls and risks to the organization, internal auditors must also conduct themselves with objectivity and independence (TuЕЎek Pokrovac, 2012). Whereas external auditors are independent of the firm, internal auditors face more scrutiny of their objectivity as they are employed directly by the firm of which they audit. Therefore, more important than independence is objectivity to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Emergency Powers In Canada Research Paper A hallmark of our great society, that has taken many centuries to perfect, is the concept of democracy. Not just as a system of government but as a defining set of guidelines for life that all citizens take pride in living. As citizens of Canada who may have lived their whole lives, as members of a democratic society most have grown used to the customs and the liberties that society affords them. But, what if one day all the democratic rights and fundamental freedoms you had grown used too were suddenly stripped from you? With this question in mind many Canadians would want to do anything possible to prevent this from happening, which is why many would agree the emergency powers outlined in the Constitution are a truly dangerous threat to the great Canadian democracywe have spent so long promoting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A perfect example of the dangerous implications can be seen in the Supreme Court Case, Reference Re Person of Japanese Race. Immediately following the deadly attacks on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, Canada declared war on the Empire of Japan and thus became increasingly nervous of Japanese sympathizers living in Canada and especially on the west coast where the possibility for attack was perceived to be greater. In the name of protection of Canadian citizens the War Measures Act and the subsequent National Emergency Transitional Powers Act was enacted and the Governor General adopted three new Orders in Council that were to be taken into effect immediately. • 8. The Health Of Health Care Insurance The eating habits of people in the modern days have led to the increased health complications. Most people are therefore turning to medical care through specialists such as nutritionists in order to learn how to keep their bodies healthy. In addition due to the uncertainty of disease attack and its severity, people have turned to health care insurance. Health care insurance is a medical plan that is aimed at benefiting an insured person by covering the medical and surgical expenses (Enthoven, 2003). The insured is the person who is covered by the policy and can be said to be the owner of the health insurance policy. The provider on the other hand is the specific insurance service provider and can fall in various categories such as: doctor, clinic, laboratory or pharmacy. Therefore, health insurance policy in this modern days translates to any payment plans that is meant to cover emergency procedures and which are mostly of a high cost. Health care insurance in some countries is included in the employment benefit package as an employment incentive. This is mostly the case in countries without universal healthcare covers, an example of such is the USA. Consumers in a way deceive themselves by believing that this medical covers protect their own health (Enthoven, 2003). The payment plan develops a mindset of total reliance on the medical industry and medical services instead of focusing on their quality of life. He goes onto explaining the spiritual aspect of one s self and how everything else flows from it, from one s spirit from the inside. Also, he points out the challenges and struggle one faces when choosing to follow one s own convictions instead of the ones imposed onto us. I ll go onto analyzing his choice of words, their meaning in his arguments and how I relate his philosophy to my own. The people I ve met that have inspired me to live up to my own standards and beliefs and stand strong in them are the ones that most of the time go with the flow. If they feel it in their spirit to do it, they don t consider what would be said, they act on their love for themselves and as Nietzsche argues, there is no right or wrong answer in that. Then, he mentions the wicked game. These last few months I feel like that s the game I ve been playing, the one in which you choose to risk it all, even your family s support and defy all odds just to be who you ve been created to be. The wicked game is the one in which you decide to cross the line of the unspoken rules of society and once you do, people think you are insane for daring to do what nobody else has done, for daring to think and act outside of the box they ve made sure you never get out. Daily, it is a risk I take, to be talk down and being seen as too different. • 10. Carol Bhakos Abraham Of Many Faiths Analysis Liam McConnell Dr. Hall Western Religious Traditions 18 September 2016 Abraham of Many Faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most distinct and well known religions in the world. They have persisted for generation upon generation and have by far the largest number of followers of all religions in the world. They also share some interesting similarities in their foundational stories. Where did these faiths originate, and why do they share many aspects while differing on still more? Carol Bakhos lays this out very well in The Family of Abraham and explains her thoughts on the similarities and differences the influential figure of Abraham shares within these three faiths. Abraham is recognized globally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should not identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse than others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have placed distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of thinking that places some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more or less as equals. That is not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their mothers live in the abode of Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the sole important figure while Ishmael becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is the one giving birth to the first son of Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much more docile role after being spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same religions, however, disagree with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar, rather, Ishmael was the one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two religions place very clear distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct branches, intimating that some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all with this belief and I agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into. While it is true that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be regarded ... Its primary use was to, as the name suggests, pierce enemy shields, since normal bows lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is nothing more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body. http:/ /members.lycos.nl/onager/GastrophetesPic.jpg As time went on ballistas were improved to become larger and more powerful, eventually becoming mounted mechanisms that could be operated by two or more people. The velocity can be found using the kinematic equation v2=2ax, where a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile is accelerated upon. Since F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2 kdx/m. After it is released, the projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air resistance. Therefore, the range of the ballista can be given by the equation R=v2sin2q/g, where g is the accleration due to gravity. Mangonel History The Romans, finding the ballista difficult to construct, simplified the design and created the onager. It had one arm instead of two, and is what is most commonly identified as a catapult today. http:/ /members.lycos.nl/onager/OnagerPic.jpg During the Dark Ages, the French were able to re invent the onager, and they called it the mangonneau, and it became known in England as the mangonel. This can be found in many animals, but it is considered more optional than mandatory as a way to transport. Some use it as a defense mechanism. In humans, it is one of the special characteristics that is used to differentiate the humanspecies from the rest of the Hominidaefamily. Only humans have mandatory bipedalism. Other characteristics include massive brain size and the ability to make and use tools (Lovejoy,1988). It was discussed that because of going from quadrupedal to bipedal it cause many advancements such as brain development. Bipedalism was the biggest evolutionary change for the human ancestors. Nobody really knows the origins of bipedalism, but there are some theories that might explain it. It can be the freeing of hands to use tools or to hold and carry resources or offspring. It can be change of habitat from woodland to plain or use of defense mechanism to look beyond the plains for predators at further distance. It can also be energy efficient and to run longer more easier compare to quadrupedalism. Bipedalism gave many advantages with the change of human body, mainly the skeletal structure, but is it possible that some of these changes have tradeoffs? Some scientists believe that certain illnesses, injuries, and health complication are the results of the change of skeletal structure to become bipedal. There are disadvantages for bipedalism and it can differ between male and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man. The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible, God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon it because of man s wickedness. Through the duration of the tale, Tristan is so driven by his love and lust for Isolte that engages in deceiving his king and risking grave punishment. However, one could argue that Tristan is not driven humanly desire but by the magical force of the potion that was accidentally given to him and Isolte by Brangein. It is the potion that had caused them to fall deeply in love with each other and could be driving Tristan s desire. Although this is a valid assumption, it can be refuted by the fact that towards the end of the tale we are told that the effects of the potion eventually wear off, but we know Tristan continues to have feelings of love and lust for Isolde even after this point is made. The best way to decide what desires drive Tristan to behave as he does is to examine the reasons that led him to certain circumstances. One bulletin board proudly displayed photos of students undertaking self management jobs around the campus; a second bulletin board displayed a dream career portrait of every student at the school. Our decision to enroll in this school was instant! Following enrollment, my children were issued school pride shirts to wear every Friday as well as instructions to wear college themed apparel every Monday (promoting the hope for every child to attend the college of their choice.) Every morning the school day begins with a student led, televised, morning show announcing, Where are we going? We are going to college! How are we going to get there? 100% everyday, in every way: attendance, behavior, and classwork! The student body cheers these words in unison; for some children, who ... Can historians show you the picture about the historic event instead of imagining them by yourselves? Abina and the Important Men is a graphic history book, so the authors not only gives readers literal record but also give images to illustrate the history. The story happened in west Africa in 1876. Abina Mansah, Quamina Eddoo and William Meltonare most important characters in the story because they represent different hierarchies in the society and display different condition in these hierarchies. Abina is a main character in the story. She reflects most African girls living in a low social status. The first reason that she is a very important character in the story is she escaped from her master to find help. In that period, British issued a law that slaves are repealed. Because British controlled West Africa, the citizens needed to comply with the law. However, Abina was sold to Quamina Eddoo by her older master even though she did not see money transactions. Cohesiveness relates to the degree to which members are attracted to and motivated to remain part of that team. Casey explains the younger generation s frustration with these beliefs, Men like Stephen Crane, who grew up long after the war had ended, felt a sense of belatedness when confronted by veterans claims to cultural superiority and uniqueness. To the younger generation these claims suggested that true manhood was no longer available even though society argued that it was necessary for full citizenship (2). The younger generation was given a contradictory message that said they were supposed to have traditional masculine qualities as part of society, yet, at the same time, they were denied the acknowledgement of these qualities by the older generation of veterans.
