Doughnut Shop Case Interview Questions
While interviewing Mrs. Beamon, owner and operator of the Wilson Doughnut Shop, I asked her a
series of questions that I and others could benefit from. Mrs. Beamon took over the Wilson Doughnut
Shop in 2008 and there were many things that needed to be changed. First I asked Mrs. Beamon why
and or what made her want to take over the Wilson Doughnut Shop. Mrs. Beamon s answer was
simple, she wanted to create jobs for people. She then went on to tell me that in the beginning family
members were supposed to work there but that isn t exactly the case now. I then went on to ask about
who owned the Doughnut Shop before she did and the answer to that question was Mr. Tony Stone.
While there was someone running the Wilson Doughnut Shop before Mrs. Beamon,

Bechtel s Greed
In April of 2000 thousands of Bolivians protested that their water supply had been privatized to a U.S.
based corporation, Bechtel, as part of a loan program with the World Bank and the International
Monetary Fund (IMF). Bechtel has vast political influence as demonstrated by how they made over $1
billion during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, second only to Halliburton, largely from no bid
contracts. Predictably, this company s greed showed no limits, even in one of the poorest countries in
the world. Water prices skyrocketed immediately to almost double the previous prices and Bolivians
were actually expected to pay Bechtel for collecting their own rainwater. Even though the new policy
was clearly disastrous, the former Bolivian President ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

every year billions of dollars are spent on U.S. military foreign aid throughout Latin America, another
unofficial stimulus package for the military industrial complex. We re essentially buying our military
and economic allies. From 2005 to 2009, the government spent more than $3.1 billion on
counternarcotics contracts in Latin America. The majority of that funding, $1.8 billion, went to only
five contractors: DynCorp, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, ITT, and ARINC. The top recipient from that
group, DynCorp, received $1.1 billion. That should be no surprise as DynCorp is exceedingly
connected politically with former executives who include cabinet members from the Reagan
administration, George Shultz and Caspar Weinberger. Also, Bill Clinton s former drug czar, Gen.
Barry McCaffrey, is one of DynCorp s board members. Mexico is one of the largest recipients of U.S.
military aid for counternarcotics operations. Since 2008, the U.S. has provided training, equipment,
and intelligence through the MĂŠrida Initiative. This is a substantial program that has equipped the
Mexican government with $2.3 billion in military aid since 2008. This policy defies common sense as
there is a long history of drug corruption in Mexico. The most powerful cartels have been protected,
while their rivals have been targeted by the Mexican law enforcement. Inserting the Mexican military

Silver Linings Playbooks by David O. Russell Essay
Synopsis Silver Linings Playbooks tells the story of Pat Solitano Jr. (played by Bradley Cooper), a
high school teacher diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is trying to get his life back together. The
movie opens as Pat is released from a psychiatric hospital after eight months of treatment and moves
back in with his parents. He is determined to get back together with his wife, Nikki, despite all the
signs that say she does not want to be with him such as the restraining order she filed against him. Pat
meets recently widowed Tiffany Maxwell (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who is suffering from
depression and overcoming a sex addiction that ensued from the death of her husband. Tiffany offers
to help deliver Pat s letters to Nikki if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this period there must also be three or more of the following symptoms present: (1) inflated
self esteem or grandiosity; (2) decreased need for sleep; (3) more talkative than usual or pressure to
keep talking; (4) flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing; (5) distractibility; (6)
increase in goal directed activity; (7) excessive involvement in activities that have a high potential for
painful consequences. In addition to the presence of at least three of these seven symptoms, the
criteria for bipolar 1 disorder require that the mood disturbance is severe enough to cause marked
social or occupational dysfunction or to necessitate hospitalization to prevent harm to self or others, or
there are psychotic features. Lastly, the manic episode cannot be attributable to the effects of a
substance of abuse, medication, or another medical condition (American Psychiatric Association,
2013, p. 124). Throughout the movie, Pat recurrently displayed an elevated and irritable mood as well
as three of the above symptoms, namely a decreased need for sleep, speech that is rapid, pressured,
loud and difficult to interrupt, and non stop goal directed activity. These symptoms are accompanied
by delusions of a suspicious nature, as well as hallucinations. Pat s mood disturbance led to his
hospitalization, separation from his wife, and the loss of his job

Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden Plot
Fact: One fact that I found particularly interesting is the concept that one of the main characters of this
story, Lizzie, never altered or fell into the temptation of the Goblin s fruit. Even with the variety of
fruit the Goblin s were offering the two, Lizzie was always adamant that there was something not to
trust. On the other hand, Laura was extremely enticed by what they had to offer. Lizzie witnessed her
sister give into the temptation and the great pleasure she initially gained from indulging, and she still
never budged in her judgment of not trusting the Goblins. I find this personally interesting because
often society tends to follow what everyone else is doing and give into temptation even when we
know it is wrong. I hate to admit it, but I have given into these pressures more than once. After reading
this story I was left with a great admiration for Lizzie s strength.
Interpretation: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a clear reference to the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. One sister cannot resist
the temptation of the fruit while the other sister finds the strength to hold back. No, said Lizzie: No,
no, no; Their offers should not charm us, Their evil gifts would harm us . Lizzie is struggling to get
Laura to understand that the Goblin s fruit is something of an evil spirit and it will only do harm.
Sadly, her warning isn t enough to keep Laura from giving into the Goblin s persuasion. Everyone is
tempted by the fruit leaving the reader left with the idea that the fruit is a representation or symbol of

Chinese State Owned Enterprises
Introduction Since the Chinese Economic reform in 1978, Chinese economy transferred from planned
economy to market economy. Under the new circumstances of socialist market economy with Chinese
characteristics, a large number of workers faced unemployment with the economic reforms. In the
1990s, the reforms of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) enhanced the job losses and changes, causing a
new noun xiagang , the laid off workers unemployed with remained work relationships from SOEs. In
comparison with the situations before 1980s, the workers benefits and social positions have
dramatically changed. The workers no longer hold the so called Iron Rice Bowl that guaranteed all the
welfares and permanent employment. On xiagang status, workers are helpless, depressed and confused
about the future. Laid off workers in China has become an issue of great significance related to
workforce allocation, people s wellbeing and economic development.
In this essay, we will discover the reasons for the appearance of laid off workers in China from current
literature via historical and economic aspects and also the influences of reforms of SOEs on the
hardship of the laid off workers. In addition, the re employment policies will be covered.
Appearance of laid off workers
A massive number of workers in Chinese SOEs and their families have faced negative shocks in
employment, their relation with employers and the state since 1980s. Resulted problems on the low

Different Times, Different Ideals
Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There
was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function,
and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was
commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time
period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written
during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian
Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting
from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered
inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains
with this tale.
This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different
sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure
and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the
companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two
main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the
Victorian Era.
Wendy, who is a mother like figure to the Lost Boys

Writing Out Notes And Homework On A Computer
With technology s new advancements, students are getting their homework done a lot sooner than they
used to by writing their notes out on the computer instead of on paper. Is getting homework done
faster worth having to study longer later? Writing out notes and homework by hand has more
educational benefits than typing notes and homework on a computer. Various studies have proven that
writing notes have a variety of benefits that exceed those of typing notes on a computer; retention rate,
distractions, and higher grades.
In an experiment done by Mueller and Oppenheimer, students were instructed to take notes, some
students did so by hand, others by laptops. Afterwards, they were given a test on what they took notes
on. Students who wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results were that those who took the standard class had considerably higher marks than those who
took the hybrid class. Those in the hybrid course earned an average of only 69.2% while the students
in the lecture earned an average of 77.9%. According to the researchers, students in the hybrid course
were less engaged with the material than those in the traditional section. (Adams) This is why they
believe that those who took the standard class were more successful in earning better grades than the
other students. In a different study by Robert Williams and Allan Eggert, Notetaking aids one s ability
to recall noted information and do well on exams related to that information. This is why it is so
important for students to take notes in class. When you write out notes in class while the teacher is
talking, you are forced to listen and summarize the key points of the lecture because writing notes are
significantly slower than typing the notes. When students take notes on computers, they generally tend
to type exactly what is being said instead of focusing on why it is important. When these students go
back and read their notes, they don t have a decent conceptual understanding of what was written
beforehand. COnsequently, these students need to spend more time studying to get the same results as

Personal Narrative-The Joy Of Skiing
Speed! That s all I think about as I head down the slope. The wind blasts in my face as I race down.
Suddenly, I swerve out of control; I freak out. My skis fall off and I m stuck on a snowy hill looking
down at a steep slope. Fortunately, my dad skis down and stopped a few a feet away from me.
Panicking, I sat down and begin to worry. Yet, my dad eventually straightens me out and shows me
how to get back up, we continue skiing.
This was not my first time skiing. However, I was still a beginner. I still like to go with my dad. He
was a big help to me in learning. Yes, I took lessons every time I went, although he was an equal help.
One of the things he helped me with was how to use the ski poles.

Navajo Indian Nation- Past, Present and Future
Residing in the Southwest United States, the Navajo Indian tribe is one of the largest tribes in America
today. In their own language, they refer to themselves as DinĂŠ which means the people . They are an
old tribe with descendants tracing their roots back to the thirteenth century. The first contact that the
Navajos had with white settlers was during the Mexican American War in 1846. The United States
conducted peaceful relations with the Navajo for over fifteen years. Forts were built to help protect the
Navajo from Spanish/Mexican raids on the Navajo s cattle. Eventually, a new military commander,
James H. Carleton, was named in New Mexico and he began to raid Navajo lands with a vengeance.
He ordered the Navajo to surrender. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many students and parents gave up and left the school system because heritage was deemed more
important, school was boring or no one cared. Parents remember the old school when they were taught
that their heritage was wrong and all they knew was wrong. A fear and hatred for white school has
been embedded within the older clans people. Many don t enforce the children to stay in school and
only do it because the law says so. They are not realizing that without proper education, the Navajo
Nation can not prosper and will remain in poverty. There is a proven and strong correlation between
education and income across the world. The more education that an individual has, the more income
he or she can obtain with a higher paying job. However, it would not be enough to just attend school.
The quality of education that is received is just as important as the act of attending. The instruction
and direction that is provided in a school system provides a rigor for life. Many bills and laws have
been passed to help set up education reform but with little or no effect. In the time that the Native
Americans were placed on Reservations and 1871, over 400 treaties were signed with the government.
Of those, 120 promised to move the Indian children to civilized children. Such treaties had the
children put into boarding schools where they were to be taught the white man s way . Schools like

Securing the Quality of Data
2.3 Securing the quality of data
Adopting explicit evaluation criteria increases the transparency of the research and provides the
researcher with the means to highlight the strengths and limitations of that particular research
(Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A., 2008). According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), one of the
reasons that lead to a poor quality research is when a qualitative research is assessed with the help of
evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research and vice versa. Conducting a quantitative
research requires gathering data from a large number of samples whereas in qualitative research,
generally, data is collected from a relatively smaller number of participants and the focus is on
understanding the participants social world in depth through probing, asking questions and case
studies. When conducting a qualitative research, the question shouldn t be How many interviews do I
need to do to get my theory accepted ? According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), by asking
this question, the logic of quantitative acceptability enters into qualitative research. As mentioned
earlier, assessing a qualitative research with the evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research
leads to a poor quality research and vice versa. Instead, when evaluating qualitative research as a good
quality research, the focus should be on the materials obtained from the interviews, quality of the
interviews and the logic through which a researcher makes

Edelstein s Occupation
DIPL 6310B Fall2014
Assignment 1
Q1: What is Edelstein s research question?
A: What is the reason of success and failures of military occupations?
Q2: What is the thing that is being explained in Edelstein s analysis?
A: He basically explained why some occupations last long enough to succeed while others failed in
the end. And in his analysis, he also made several points to support his opinion, which are as follows:
(1) In his analysis he explained how to code a military occupation as a success or a failure It s
basically measured by looking at the long term balance of interests gained by the occupying power
and the cost they paid out.
(2) The author s analysis explained what an occupying power should seek for to maintain ... Show

So in order to succeed, occupiers must both maintain their interests and convince the occupied
population to accept their long term occupations. And in order to make this possible, potential
occupying power should know three points. First of all, the need for occupation, commonly perceived
external threats, and credible guarantees are both the causes and the effects of occupation success;
Second, clear goals should be established and occupiers should be trained to be ready for occupations;
Third, great powers should anticipate the possibility of occupation and take their responsibility to act
before engaging into war.
Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions?
A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different
kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the
reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power
would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by
using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current occupation
of Iraq and future potential

The Purpose of Dreams
Dreams are a very ponderous things. Simply saying, dreams are a stream of images, sounds, and
the actions of something; like a movie. But never have dreams been able to be explained. The
Greeks and Romans claimed that dreams were signs from their gods and had prophetic magic
(www.scientificamerican.com). Even though the purpose of dreams has not been discovered, a
huge movement in the study of dreams occurred at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1952,
scientists in Chicago discovered electrical readings during a certain stage of sleep. When woken
up in this stage, people almost always remember their dreams. This stage is the only stage of
sleep where we dream, and it is known as the REM stage (YouTube.com).

of consciousness, a spot where we hold memories before we move them from short term to long

The next theory is referred to as garbage collection . This states that we only dream to
organize and get rid of unwanted ideas or memories. Now this is the main focus of many
theories, but with other details. This theory just focuses on removing unwanted memories. This
theory also states that we forget our dreams because we are looking though our memories and
then discarding them. So basically, our dreams are a replay of our memories. (10 theories that

Now this next theory is the exact opposite of the last. It is known as reviewing what we

Otto Dix s Corpse In Barbed Wire
Through the cultural frame, artworks are concerned with understanding how an artwork is influenced
by the values of the society it is produced in, and, in turn, how the artwork influences the values of the
society. This includes examining the historical and cultural context in which the work was made, and
religious and/or philosophical beliefs, which may have influenced the work. Plate 1, Corpse in Barbed

Like many of Dix s generation in Germany during the 1920s, he drew from the German expressionist
movement in his use of distortion, directness, media and subject matter in plate 1. German
expressionism involved directness, frankness and a desire to startle the viewer. Their works embraced
printmaking and focused on the emotions expressed rather than reality. Dix heightens the emotions
effects through his meticulous rendered, horrific images. The brilliant white bones stand out against
the darker background. He experimentation with printmaking and used multiple acid baths to eat away

The Nasa Space Flight Center Essay
The Goddard Space Flight Center states that there are 2,271 artificial satellites currently in space
orbiting the earth. An artificial satellite is a hand made machine that orbits the planet earth to help in
many different ways in communications, documenting information, sending and receiving signals. A
satellite is a moon, planet, or a machine that orbit a planet or a star. There are many types of satellites
and each one is used for different reasons. Some satellites are used to send and receive television
signals. Some other satellites are used in communications by making it possible to send and receive
signals from phones, fax, internet and computers to people all over the world. Other satellites are used
in forecasting by giving information about the earth s weather to scientists. Also, there is another type
of satellites that take accurate picture of earth to show the environmental situation such as resources,
pollution and statistics of crops and water (NOAA, 2014). Satellites improved a lot in the daily life
uses such as weather forecasting, documenting information, communication and positioning systems.
The idea of satellites The development of the invention started in 1952 when the International Council
of Scientific Unions decided to start a project named International Geophysical Year which started on
July1, 1957 and ended on December31, 1958. They put in considerations to launch the artificial
satellite in this year for mapping earth s surface (Verma, 2012).

Aristotle s Characteristic Perspectives Of Happiness
Many individuals attempt to characterize and consider diverse meanings of what happiness is, and I
believe that Plato and Aristotle offer intriguing perspectives of happiness and what it implies for one
to live a good life with great things surrounded by himself. Our two Philosophers concur that
happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to carry on with a
decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose, or goal. For
example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best understands what a chair
is. True happiness is when we see an end in itself which is supreme good . However, it is very
important to identify the true happiness from the false happiness. This confusion might lead us to a
life in a bubble with lot of imaginations.
It is very true that Happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue . Having a good job, loving wife,
and awesome lifestyle does not mean that someone has true happiness, but morally and spiritually
sound, good qualities, kindness, honesty, etc. Like Aristotle says main door(hallmark) for true
happiness which is virtue is achieved by how we maintain the mean which is how we balance two
excesses. (1106a 24 29) In Simple plan even though Hank had all those great achievements in his life

Throughout the 20th century there were many influential pieces of literature that would not only tell a
story or teach a lesson, but also let the reader into the author s world. Allowing the reader to view both
the positives and negatives in an author. Ernest Hemingway was one of these influential authors.
Suffering through most of his life due to a disturbingly scarring childhood, he expresses his intense
mental and emotional insecurities through subtle metaphors that bluntly show problems with
commitment to women and proving his masculinity to others. Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21,
1899, in Cicero, Illinois. Clarence and Grace Hemingway raised Ernest in the suburbs of Chicago and
Northern Michigan. He spent most of his young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right out of high school, he escapes from home when he enlists in the army during World War I to
serve as an ambulance driver in Italy. One moment that really struck with him, due to it being
masculine, was when a soldier was injured by a machine gun, and he managed to carry the soldier to
safety and save his life. Little did many know, he also found and married his first love during the war,
Hadley Richardson. This was the first time that he actually began to not fear and actually trust a
woman. This eventually branches off to more problems with women and even commitment, for he is
married 3 more times after Hadley. Deep in Ernest... was a mistrust and fear of women. Which he
suffered from always (Brainy Quote 1). Never being able to wipe away problems with dedication, due
to his fear of women.
Right when the war ended, he began writing short stories and novels. Starting with his first novel, The
Sun Also Rises, in 1926. Several things had influenced his works. His experience in World War I was
influential, though not as influential as the relationship he had with his parents. Emotions he had
dealing with his manipulative mother and scarring childhood constantly spilled into his writing.
Unfortunately, Hemingway felt like no one should know what his childhood was like, and eventually

“Mexico’s Balance-of-Payments Problem”
Mini Case Mexico s Balance of Payments Problem
In December of 1994 Mexico entered its second major financial crisis in as many decades, requiring
painful economic adjustment similar to the debt crisis of 1982.
After nearly a decade of stagnant economic activity and high inflation in Mexico, the Mexican
government liberalized the trade sector in 1985, adopted an economic stabilization plan at the end of
1987, and gradually introduced market oriented institutions. Those reforms led to the resumption of
economic growth, which averaged 3.1 percent per year between 1989 and 1994.
In 1993 inflation was brought down to single digit levels for the first time in more than two decades.
As its economic reforms advanced, Mexico began to attract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In short, the economy seemed to be poised for sustained economic growth with low inflation, that
would lead to increases in per capita income that had been unobtainable during the previous decade.
The beginning:
In late 1987, Mexico was facing 140% annual inflation. To solve this problem, government engaged in
an aggressive stabilization program with wage freeze and administered prices. Exchange rate was
fixed and became the main anchor of the program starting from February 1988. Between 1988 and
1994, exchange rates went through several adjustments. In 1989 a pre announced devaluation regime
where nominal devaluations were set below inflation rate was followed. Then in 1991, they went on to
a narrow exchange rate band with a sliding ceiling.
Between1992 93, NAFTA agreement was in the center stage boosting investor confidence. During
which peso was fairly stable, remaining in the lower half of the band. In the first 18 months of the
program, inflation fell to less than 20 percent but then the pace of disinflation became very slow. It
should also be mentioned that between1992 94 capital inflow to Mexico was 7 percent of GDP. There
were also discussions regarding the appreciation of peso together with the growing current account
deficit which was being financed by these inflows. To avoid the problem of rolling over a sizable
amount of domestic debt at high interest rates and further rise in interest rates, Mexico had a crucial

How Did Castro Cause The Cuban Revolution
DRAFT Fidel Castro A Rebel With A Cause
The Cuban Revolution was a massive revolt led by Fidel Castro and powered by people with the
common goal to bring back the peace. The Cuban government was led by the dictator Fulgencio
Batista who took away basic freedoms that damaged society. Fidel Castro wanted to bring back the
peace with a radical mission to overtake a nearby army garrison. With a chaotic attack on Moncada
Barracks, Fidel Castro failed at his coup d etat but did not meet an unsuccessful end. Fidel Castro s
gruesome attempt at claiming control of the Moncada Barracks ultimately backfired on him and
created the spark for the Cuban Revolution.

Later he surrendered after being promised a fair trial where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. At
his trial he said You may condemn me. History will absolve me (PBS) and left these words ringing in

speeches were so powerful that he influenced the Cuban Bill of Rights. While being denied access to
physical papers and documents, he used ideas from European and American revolutions as the basis of
his defense. Castro even recalled ideas from Rousseau, Thomas Paine s Rights of Man and the
American Declaration of Independence. Most importantly, he argued how he was fighting for the
people of Cuba, how Batista had created a reign of terror, and that the people should uprise in order to
achieve peace. Fidel Castro was sent to prison for 15 years until Batista would release him on the
terms of general amnesty 2 years later. After his release the people of Cuba would look to him for

Why We Should Introduce Australia
Principal, teachers, parents and friends welcome. Thank you for this opportunity to speak to you
today.
Are you all aware that there are over 7000 languages spoken in the world today? In recent years,
Australian schools located in metropolitan area were just starting to introduce languages classes other
than English, such as French, Chinese or Indonesia. So that student could choose any other languages
that offer, as their second language. Compares to China, English are compulsory throughout lower and
upper schools and I personally believe that this will result in having a disadvantage position for us as
Australians.

Essay about The Application Of Fractal Geometry To Ecology
The Application of Fractal Geometry to Ecology
Abstract
New insights into the natural world are just a few of the results from the use of fractal geometry.
Examples from population and landscape ecology are used to illustrate the usefulness of fractal
geometry to the field of ecology. The advent of the computer age played an important role in the
development and acceptance of fractal geometry as a valid new discipline. New insights gained from
the application of fractal geometry to ecology include: understanding the importance of spatial and
temporal scales; the relationship between landscape structure and movement pathways; an increased

Fractal geometry is a tool that bridges the quot;gap quot; between different fields of ecology and
provides a common language.
Fractal geometry has provided new insight into many fields of ecology. Examples from population and
landscape ecology will be used to illustrate the usefulness of fractal geometry to the field of ecology.
Some population ecologists use fractal geometry to correlate the landscape structure with movement
pathways of populations or organisms, which greatly influences population and community ecology.
Landscape ecologists tend to use fractal geometry to define, describe, and model the scale dependent
heterogeneity of the landscape structure.
Before exploring applications of fractal geometry in ecology, we must first define fractal geometry.
The exact definition of a fractal is difficult to pin down. Even the man who conceived of and
developed fractals had a hard time defining them (Voss 1988). Mandelbrot s first published definition
of a fractal was in 1977, when he wrote, quot;A fractal is a set for which the Hausdorff
Besicovitch dimension strictly exceeds the topographical dimension quot; (Mandelbrot
1977). He later expressed regret for having defined the word at all (Mandelbrot
1982). Other attempts to capture the essence of a fractal include the following quotes: quot;Different
people use the word fractal in different ways, but all agree that fractal objects

Descriptive Essay On A Walk In The Park
A Walk in the Park A ways away from a town that I call home, I found a happy place. I often find
myself walking through the park by myself. The beautiful trees, the way the yellow and red leaves
crumple under my feet every step I take. When the flowers bloom and how it s the most spectacular
sight you could ever imagine seeing, all the different colors that appear. When you breathe in and you
get this smell of purity, you feel free and alive. Sometimes I like to sit on the old wooden bench where
the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my eyes search the sky. In the
winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like sitting in front of an air
conditioner and breathing in. Some mornings the sun beams across the sky, which is not quite blue
yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes over the blades of grass. Some
days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the spring. When summer comes around, and
the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to
the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in
sight. Walking through the trail full of mud and leaves always made me think about my life. It was
always there when I needed to walk and get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves
fall off tree after tree flying like butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately
died and they were not coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and
jumped on them like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous
branches holding hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view
with the sun shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth
water puts a joy to my face. I found a rest area with a bench and by it was a fountain. The ripple of
water and the singing that the birds formed made it peaceful to sit there and study the fountain. Just
appreciating the little things in life and realizing what all I have and have overcome is what the park

witchcraft would be the only way Othello would have gotten his white daughter to take his hand in
marriage.
When Iago suggests to Othello that Desdemona has been unfaithful, Othello starts having epileptic fits
and the thoughts of his wife s faithlessness consume his mind. May fall to match you with her country
forms / And happily repent (629). Iago is purposely trying to turn Othello against Desdemona by
implying she compares him to the handsome men in Venice, and she will change her mind about her
marriage to a black Moor. Othello believes Desdemona will eventually feel sincere regret about her
wrongdoing and leave him for a Venetian man. Arthur L. Little, Jr. an Associate Professor of English,
who also obtained his PhD in English through Harvard University stated Like Othello s search for
Desdemona s honor, the play probes into his blackness, always scrutinizing and presumably moving
towards the origin and essence of his black presence (304). As Othello begins thinking that his wife is
involved in an affair, his reality becomes distorted. Othello now believes Desdemona could never love
or be faithful to a black, foreign moor, such as him. Haply, for I

Prejudice And Racism In America
Racism makes us unable to think out of the bubble and encloses the society
Racist doctrines are based on reasoning, express or implied, of the superiority of one human group
over others and the belief that biological, social and cultural differences between human groups are
transmitted hereditarily.Racism is also a colonial ideology invented to promote the conquest of other
continents by Europeans. The best way to exclude human beings to exploit them, sometimes as slaves,
was to say they were not quite human. Therefore, the dominators had no moral obligation to face the
dominated.John hope Franklin was born in Rentiesville, Oklahoma in 1915 to attorney Buck (Charles)

No one is born with a terrorism or racist attitude or disposition in their human genome. Racism,
especially against blacks or any other racial group for that matter is a learned behavior. It has festered
in the U.S. and the rest of the world for a long time. It is even made worse by the veneer of civil rights
and liberties in the American constitution which give a false ideal of liberty and pursuit of happiness
for all Americans. Unfortunately, many blacks in the U.S. suffer a painful cultural and existential
alienation which have left them in a ghettoized world of pain and on the marginal sidelines of the so
called American dream. Racism in America is also the result of the white social construction of
identity and the jaundiced narrative of the otherness of the Black man which emerges from this
narrative. The so called manifest destiny which America claims for herself has remained for many
black males only an unflappable peripheral destiny in the throes of police brutality, violence,
incarceration, joblessness, and constant

Henry Ford American Experience Analysis
When trying to make connections between democracy and capitalism, and how they play a role in our
everyday society, looking closely at the emergence of a powerful company can be very informative.
Throughout the documentary Henry Ford American Experience, we are introduced to the humble
beginnings of the one well known company in today s society, the Ford Motor Company. With the in
depth account of the creator himself, Henry Ford and the focus on the labor practices used in his
company, one can understand how the establishment came to be. It is said that the modern automobile
is mainly credited to the work of the Germans and French during the late 1800s, but America during
the early 20th century did have a period of work in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It created a better way of transportation, produced opportunities to new forms of leisure and added to
the building up of the city. The Model T also added great success to the Ford Motor Company. Not
only did Ford contribute his automobile, but he introduced ideas like the assembly line and through
the popularity of the automobile built up industries like oil and rubber(American). Henry Ford was a
man who contributed a lot to the people of his time, but not everyone felt the same way about him.
Henry Ford was a man who came from a farming family in Michigan. He felt that the best people
were the simple, plain, hard working people (American). In all of his actions, we see him as a man
who takes care of those like himself. However, the worst people were those who he felt were in
control, in this case, the rich. In his eyes, the common man contributed the most to society. His love for
the everyday people fueled his desire to help them live a better life, this can be seen in both positive
and negative ways. For one Ford created the Model T to be affordable, at only $850 and of quality
material, many ordinary people wanted and could afford to buy his cars. He also shorten the workday,
from 9 to 8 hours, and gave workers better pay, a $5.00 wage increase(American). On the other hand,
we see that he felt he knew what was best for people. To make sure workers were living proper
American lives, the Ford Sociological Department, a division of the company used to pry

Wyatt s Eulogy
As many children of the United States of America have the pleasure of growing up as normally as
possible, starting with learning how to interact with other children, build relationships with other
people, and the ability to horse around on the playscape; however, some children do not have that
privilege. At a young age, ten years old, Bailey had physical problems such as joint pain, frequent
infections including disseminated infection and pneumonia and easy bleeding, which were all signs
leading to a disease that changed her life forever. Nights were filled with sweaty sheets, days were
shared with unbearable pains and just when she was about to give up all hope of true happiness, the
brother that she was never close to finally connected with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Wyatt rounded all his money up and got her the best things he could possibly get her. He got a
hoverboard made, he even sent out his servant all the way to Germany to go and buy Justin Bieber s
monkey and paid to train it. The monkey was given to Bailey and she instantly fell in love with it
more than Wyatt for the moment. Then realized how much Wyatt spent to get her favorite animal and
playtoy. Josh not being able to compete with Wyatt s money, he spent more time with Bailey,
approximately six years with this gal, so he knows a little something, something about her. Within all
this time Josh started to see something click between them, but was too hesitant to make anything of
it. Until now, he has nothing to lose except her. He will go in confident and tell Bailey how he feels.
Being the sibling that Noah is will miss her. He can t fully comprehend that he will no longer have a
sister. He got a necklace. Not just any necklace, but a necklace that belonged to their great grand
mama. Noah knew how much Bailey liked the necklace and when it wasn t given to her she was
infuriated. Noah, then, went to her grave and took the necklace out and gave it to Bailey as his final
gift. Now which boy bring the most meaningful

The Validity of Samuel P. Huntington’s Thesis in “The...
The aim of Samuel P. Huntington s The Clash of Civilizations was to provide an academic framework
to understand almost all of the conflicts that had broken out since the end of the twentieth century, to
include predicting the appearance of future conflicts. According to Huntington, there will be a clash of
civilizations since the world has been in an unreasonable era since the end of the Cold War and the
position of the nation state has not been of any significance. Far more than the political objectives of
territorial take overs, it is the religious element of culture that has become the main cause of conflict.
It should be acknowledged that Huntington s Clash of Civilizations is a relatively simple theory which
focuses on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, Huntington states with caution that the differences between his civilizations do not imply the
surfacing of conflicts between them. In contrary, Huntington also develops a completely opposite
argument. Without a doubt, Huntington declares that his civilizations are in conflict because they are
driven by irreconcilable moral and political values, the necessity to survive, and the will to dominate.
The characteristics of the new world order would be that much more disturbing because the
civilizations would act according to the kin country syndrome, mainly those civilizations would
partner with the less kin civilizations. Eventually, a break out in conflict would arise along the fault
lines between civilizations. Huntington s explanation of conflicts all over the world seem to make
sense since a number of conflicts have arisen along his fault lines.
Huntington states that Islam has bloody borders, hence he describes the appearance of a prominent
Islam threat for the western countries, in addition to the already present threats. His observation of the
borders of his Islam civilizations clearly mirror the practical sources of conflicts on the ground.
Moreover, Huntington argues that the Islamic civilization could use the help of the military, especially
with China and their anti western reaction, therefore creating a Confucian Islamic connection. Western

Art Talk Concert Report
I attended an Art Talk platform event, led by an artist driven nonprofit organization called New
Orleans Airlift . The interpretation was done by Brenda Prudhom who is nationally certified with her
NIC, and the other interpreter was a student intern. Upon arriving to the event, I realized the
interpreter wasn t interpreting until the event officially started. So when the presenters were walking
around the front talking about when the event will start, she was not interpreting any of that. She
informed me, this is because those conversations were private and the event also had not begun yet.
Also, there was only one Deaf person at the event, and they didn t show up until about half way
through. Once the presentation officially began, the intern began interpreting first. At the beginning of
the presentation there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, Brenda did a fantastic job at providing support to the intern. Whenever she provided him with
support, it was not distracting at all, it was barely noticeable. However, I could not see what was
exactly being provided when Brenda was signing, because I was sitting directly behind her. So, I was
unable to see her hands. After the intern interpreted for about 10 or 15 minutes, Brenda switched with
him and she began to interpret. I noticed Brenda kept good eye contact with the audience as a whole,
while she was signing her eyes were not looking all over the place. However, once the Deaf individual
entered late, she completely focused her attention onto him, which I think was a great thing to do. At
one point during the presentation, the presenter was speaking about transgender individuals and I
noticed that Brenda used the old sign for transgender (X hand shape on cheek, twisting motion). I have
been told that some people may take offense to that old sign now, and what is now acceptable is to
sign the new sign (comes from BEAUTIFUL, on the inside). When I asked her about this, she let me
know that a lot of deaf people still sign the old

Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief...
It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be a
objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to exist , it
should definitely be of some use for an organism .
The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who
proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because
of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period.
Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of
introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts.
Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the
problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and
introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution.
Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of
behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and
introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation from
one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985)
Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee
perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it

  • 2. Doughnut Shop Case Interview Questions While interviewing Mrs. Beamon, owner and operator of the Wilson Doughnut Shop, I asked her a series of questions that I and others could benefit from. Mrs. Beamon took over the Wilson Doughnut Shop in 2008 and there were many things that needed to be changed. First I asked Mrs. Beamon why and or what made her want to take over the Wilson Doughnut Shop. Mrs. Beamon s answer was simple, she wanted to create jobs for people. She then went on to tell me that in the beginning family members were supposed to work there but that isn t exactly the case now. I then went on to ask about who owned the Doughnut Shop before she did and the answer to that question was Mr. Tony Stone. • 3. Bechtel s Greed In April of 2000 thousands of Bolivians protested that their water supply had been privatized to a U.S. based corporation, Bechtel, as part of a loan program with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Bechtel has vast political influence as demonstrated by how they made over $1 billion during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, second only to Halliburton, largely from no bid contracts. Predictably, this company s greed showed no limits, even in one of the poorest countries in the world. Water prices skyrocketed immediately to almost double the previous prices and Bolivians were actually expected to pay Bechtel for collecting their own rainwater. Even though the new policy was clearly disastrous, the former Bolivian President ... In fact, every year billions of dollars are spent on U.S. military foreign aid throughout Latin America, another unofficial stimulus package for the military industrial complex. We re essentially buying our military and economic allies. From 2005 to 2009, the government spent more than $3.1 billion on counternarcotics contracts in Latin America. The majority of that funding, $1.8 billion, went to only five contractors: DynCorp, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, ITT, and ARINC. The top recipient from that group, DynCorp, received $1.1 billion. That should be no surprise as DynCorp is exceedingly connected politically with former executives who include cabinet members from the Reagan administration, George Shultz and Caspar Weinberger. Also, Bill Clinton s former drug czar, Gen. Barry McCaffrey, is one of DynCorp s board members. Mexico is one of the largest recipients of U.S. military aid for counternarcotics operations. Since 2008, the U.S. has provided training, equipment, and intelligence through the MĂŠrida Initiative. This is a substantial program that has equipped the Mexican government with $2.3 billion in military aid since 2008. This policy defies common sense as there is a long history of drug corruption in Mexico. The most powerful cartels have been protected, while their rivals have been targeted by the Mexican law enforcement. Inserting the Mexican military into the equation only adds another layer of ... • 4. Silver Linings Playbooks by David O. Russell Essay Synopsis Silver Linings Playbooks tells the story of Pat Solitano Jr. (played by Bradley Cooper), a high school teacher diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is trying to get his life back together. The movie opens as Pat is released from a psychiatric hospital after eight months of treatment and moves back in with his parents. He is determined to get back together with his wife, Nikki, despite all the signs that say she does not want to be with him such as the restraining order she filed against him. Pat meets recently widowed Tiffany Maxwell (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who is suffering from depression and overcoming a sex addiction that ensued from the death of her husband. In addition to the presence of at least three of these seven symptoms, the criteria for bipolar 1 disorder require that the mood disturbance is severe enough to cause marked social or occupational dysfunction or to necessitate hospitalization to prevent harm to self or others, or there are psychotic features. Lastly, the manic episode cannot be attributable to the effects of a substance of abuse, medication, or another medical condition (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p. 124). Throughout the movie, Pat recurrently displayed an elevated and irritable mood as well as three of the above symptoms, namely a decreased need for sleep, speech that is rapid, pressured, loud and difficult to interrupt, and non stop goal directed activity. These symptoms are accompanied by delusions of a suspicious nature, as well as hallucinations. Pat s mood disturbance led to his hospitalization, separation from his wife, and the loss of his job ... • 5. Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden Plot Fact: One fact that I found particularly interesting is the concept that one of the main characters of this story, Lizzie, never altered or fell into the temptation of the Goblin s fruit. Even with the variety of fruit the Goblin s were offering the two, Lizzie was always adamant that there was something not to trust. On the other hand, Laura was extremely enticed by what they had to offer. Lizzie witnessed her sister give into the temptation and the great pleasure she initially gained from indulging, and she still never budged in her judgment of not trusting the Goblins. I find this personally interesting because often society tends to follow what everyone else is doing and give into temptation even when we know it is wrong. I hate to admit it, but I have given into these pressures more than once. After reading this story I was left with a great admiration for Lizzie s strength. Interpretation: ... • 6. Chinese State Owned Enterprises Introduction Since the Chinese Economic reform in 1978, Chinese economy transferred from planned economy to market economy. Under the new circumstances of socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics, a large number of workers faced unemployment with the economic reforms. In the 1990s, the reforms of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) enhanced the job losses and changes, causing a new noun xiagang , the laid off workers unemployed with remained work relationships from SOEs. In comparison with the situations before 1980s, the workers benefits and social positions have dramatically changed. The workers no longer hold the so called Iron Rice Bowl that guaranteed all the welfares and permanent employment. On xiagang status, workers are helpless, depressed and confused about the future. Laid off workers in China has become an issue of great significance related to workforce allocation, people s wellbeing and economic development. In this essay, we will discover the reasons for the appearance of laid off workers in China from current literature via historical and economic aspects and also the influences of reforms of SOEs on the hardship of the laid off workers. In addition, the re employment policies will be covered. • 7. Different Times, Different Ideals Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function, and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains with this tale. This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the Victorian Era. Writing Out Notes And Homework On A Computer With technology s new advancements, students are getting their homework done a lot sooner than they used to by writing their notes out on the computer instead of on paper. Is getting homework done faster worth having to study longer later? Writing out notes and homework by hand has more educational benefits than typing notes and homework on a computer. Various studies have proven that writing notes have a variety of benefits that exceed those of typing notes on a computer; retention rate, distractions, and higher grades. In an experiment done by Mueller and Oppenheimer, students were instructed to take notes, some students did so by hand, others by laptops. Afterwards, they were given a test on what they took notes on. Students who wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results were that those who took the standard class had considerably higher marks than those who took the hybrid class. Those in the hybrid course earned an average of only 69.2% while the students in the lecture earned an average of 77.9%. According to the researchers, students in the hybrid course were less engaged with the material than those in the traditional section. (Adams) This is why they believe that those who took the standard class were more successful in earning better grades than the other students. In a different study by Robert Williams and Allan Eggert, Notetaking aids one s ability to recall noted information and do well on exams related to that information. This is why it is so important for students to take notes in class. When you write out notes in class while the teacher is talking, you are forced to listen and summarize the key points of the lecture because writing notes are significantly slower than typing the notes. When students take notes on computers, they generally tend to type exactly what is being said instead of focusing on why it is important. When these students go back and read their notes, they don t have a decent conceptual understanding of what was written beforehand. Many don t enforce the children to stay in school and only do it because the law says so. Securing the Quality of Data 2.3 Securing the quality of data Adopting explicit evaluation criteria increases the transparency of the research and provides the researcher with the means to highlight the strengths and limitations of that particular research (Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A., 2008). According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions? A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current occupation of Iraq and future potential ... Aristotle s Characteristic Perspectives Of Happiness Many individuals attempt to characterize and consider diverse meanings of what happiness is, and I believe that Plato and Aristotle offer intriguing perspectives of happiness and what it implies for one to live a good life with great things surrounded by himself. Our two Philosophers concur that happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to carry on with a decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose, or goal. For example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best understands what a chair is. True happiness is when we see an end in itself which is supreme good . However, it is very important to identify the true happiness from the false happiness. This confusion might lead us to a life in a bubble with lot of imaginations. It is very true that Happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue . Having a good job, loving wife, and awesome lifestyle does not mean that someone has true happiness, but morally and spiritually sound, good qualities, kindness, honesty, etc. Like Aristotle says main door(hallmark) for true happiness which is virtue is achieved by how we maintain the mean which is how we balance two excesses. After nearly a decade of stagnant economic activity and high inflation in Mexico, the Mexican government liberalized the trade sector in 1985, adopted an economic stabilization plan at the end of 1987, and gradually introduced market oriented institutions. Those reforms led to the resumption of economic growth, which averaged 3.1 percent per year between 1989 and 1994. Sometimes I like to sit on the old wooden bench where the bench frame is a little rusted, and I get rid of my thoughts and my eyes search the sky. In the winter the icy breeze makes me shiver, and the cold air I take in, is like sitting in front of an air conditioner and breathing in. Some mornings the sun beams across the sky, which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the kids playing in the park. The sky is the bluest view in sight. Walking through the trail full of mud and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water puts a joy to my face. I found a rest area with a bench and by it was a fountain. The ripple of water and the singing that the birds formed made it peaceful to sit there and study the fountain. Just appreciating the little things in life and realizing what all I have and have overcome is what the park helps me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. A Career In Equine Assisted Therapy To be an individual with a helper s heart is something that not everyone is born with. I am truly blessed to have been born with a servant s mentality. To me, helping is using your abilities to better the quality of another individual s life. Not only that, but I also believe that it is being present and available for anyone who may need it, even if the need is not immediate. Helping can be a wide variety of definitions, and it is not always performing a service; sometimes it is merely being there for someone to sit with them. Yet, helping others is not always easy, in fact, often, it is very difficult, especially in the field of psychology. I want to make huge strides in the animal assisted therapy world, and be able to reach out to individuals, and groups, so that they can get the support and help they need sooner, rather than later. Often in adolescent years, we can be stubborn. Teenagers often think they are invincible to the world, and in return, do not ask for the help they so desperately need. We are from a generation where mental health and illness is so negatively stigmatized that nobody wants to talk about it or seek help for fear of being criticized. This needs to stop, and I believe the only way to change this is to talk about it, and introduce people to more unique ways to approach it. I know that I dreaded seeing a therapist for so long because when I would go talk to people, it would feel confrontational, or like they felt sorry for me. One of the worst situations is going in to talk to a doctor, and seeing that look of pity on their face for what you have been through. I think that this is probably an image that a lot of people have in their heads when it comes to seeing a therapist, and that is the reason people are so afraid of the traditional couch and question setting. It is because of this that I want to find more hands on, kinesthetic therapy theories to introduce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Protagonist in Willima Shakespeare´s Othello The central character, or protagonist, in William Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, The Moor of Venice is Othello. Aristotle defined the concept of a tragic hero as the destruction of a noble person, usually with a personal flaw, and this flaw determines their fate. Othello is a tragic hero with a tragic flaw in one of Shakespeare s most known tragedies. Shakespeare so prominently exhibits the tragic flaw Othello obtains, allowing implications and thoughts, to overrun reality and show how just the insecurity one possesses can allow a person to become powerless. Othello s actions essentially destroy him, with the intentional help of characters such as the infamous Iago. Othello s tragic flaw centers on his insecurity of being an African Moor ... Brabantio states that Othello participates in witchcraft and that witchcraft would be the only way Othello would have gotten his white daughter to take his hand in marriage. When Iago suggests to Othello that Desdemona has been unfaithful, Othello starts having epileptic fits and the thoughts of his wife s faithlessness consume his mind. May fall to match you with her country forms / And happily repent (629). Iago is purposely trying to turn Othello against Desdemona by implying she compares him to the handsome men in Venice, and she will change her mind about her marriage to a black Moor. Othello believes Desdemona will eventually feel sincere regret about her wrongdoing and leave him for a Venetian man. Arthur L. Little, Jr. an Associate Professor of English, who also obtained his PhD in English through Harvard University stated Like Othello s search for Desdemona s honor, the play probes into his blackness, always scrutinizing and presumably moving towards the origin and essence of his black presence (304). Racism, especially against blacks or any other racial group for that matter is a learned behavior. It has festered in the U.S. and the rest of the world for a long time. It is even made worse by the veneer of civil rights and liberties in the American constitution which give a false ideal of liberty and pursuit of happiness for all Americans. Unfortunately, many blacks in the U.S. suffer a painful cultural and existential alienation which have left them in a ghettoized world of pain and on the marginal sidelines of the so called American dream. Racism in America is also the result of the white social construction of identity and the jaundiced narrative of the otherness of the Black man which emerges from this narrative. Henry Ford American Experience Analysis When trying to make connections between democracy and capitalism, and how they play a role in our everyday society, looking closely at the emergence of a powerful company can be very informative. Henry Ford was a man who contributed a lot to the people of his time, but not everyone felt the same way about him. Henry Ford was a man who came from a farming family in Michigan. He felt that the best people were the simple, plain, hard working people (American). In all of his actions, we see him as a man who takes care of those like himself. However, the worst people were those who he felt were in control, in this case, the rich. In his eyes, the common man contributed the most to society. His love for the everyday people fueled his desire to help them live a better life, this can be seen in both positive and negative ways. For one Ford created the Model T to be affordable, at only $850 and of quality material, many ordinary people wanted and could afford to buy his cars. He also shorten the workday, from 9 to 8 hours, and gave workers better pay, a $5.00 wage increase(American). On the other hand, we see that he felt he knew what was best for people. • 45. The Validity of Samuel P. Huntington’s Thesis in “The... The aim of Samuel P. Huntington s The Clash of Civilizations was to provide an academic framework to understand almost all of the conflicts that had broken out since the end of the twentieth century, to include predicting the appearance of future conflicts. According to Huntington, there will be a clash of civilizations since the world has been in an unreasonable era since the end of the Cold War and the position of the nation state has not been of any significance. Far more than the political objectives of territorial take overs, it is the religious element of culture that has become the main cause of conflict. It should be acknowledged that Huntington s Clash of Civilizations is a relatively simple theory which focuses on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, Huntington states with caution that the differences between his civilizations do not imply the surfacing of conflicts between them. In contrary, Huntington also develops a completely opposite argument. Without a doubt, Huntington declares that his civilizations are in conflict because they are driven by irreconcilable moral and political values, the necessity to survive, and the will to dominate. The characteristics of the new world order would be that much more disturbing because the civilizations would act according to the kin country syndrome, mainly those civilizations would partner with the less kin civilizations. Eventually, a break out in conflict would arise along the fault lines between civilizations. Huntington s explanation of conflicts all over the world seem to make sense since a number of conflicts have arisen along his fault lines. Huntington states that Islam has bloody borders, hence he describes the appearance of a prominent Islam threat for the western countries, in addition to the already present threats. His observation of the borders of his Islam civilizations clearly mirror the practical sources of conflicts on the ground. Moreover, Huntington argues that the Islamic civilization could use the help of the military, especially with China and their anti western reaction, therefore creating a Confucian Islamic connection. The interpretation was done by Brenda Prudhom who is nationally certified with her NIC, and the other interpreter was a student intern. Upon arriving to the event, I realized the interpreter wasn t interpreting until the event officially started. So when the presenters were walking around the front talking about when the event will start, she was not interpreting any of that. She informed me, this is because those conversations were private and the event also had not begun yet. At one point during the presentation, the presenter was speaking about transgender individuals and I noticed that Brenda used the old sign for transgender (X hand shape on cheek, twisting motion). • 47. Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief... It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be a objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to exist , it should definitely be of some use for an organism . The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period. Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts. Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution. Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation from one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985) Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it ...
