The Barriers Of Multicultural Teams
1. Which of the four barriers for multicultural teams (or groups) have you experienced in the past?
What strategies or interventions were used in response to these barriers? After considering the
interventions suggested by Brett, Behfar, and Kern (2006), explain how you might change the
strategy if you encounter the barrier(s) in the future and if so, why? If you have not personally
experienced any of these barriers during your education or work history, research an example of a
barrier from literature, explain the intervention used in that example, and your suggestions for
overcoming the barrier in the future.

Other cultures tend to use an indirect form of communication where their true response is
embedded in the presentation of the message. Accents and fluency problems also cause barriers as
it is hard to understand someone with a thick accent or to speak with someone who has little
knowledge and working use of a foreign language that another team member might use. The group
member might have an idea of how to say something in their head but can t find the words in
another language to share the idea (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006).
Some individuals on the team might also want to be treated according to their status in the
organization. A challenge inherent in multicultural teammates is that by design, teams have a rather
flat structure. Team members from some cultures, are uncomfortable on flat teams (Brett, Behfar,
and Kern, 2006, p. 124). It is important to recognize the hierarchy structure of the country and how
their citizens handle conflict before conducting business with them. Lastly, different cultures have
conflicting norms when it comes to decision making. Some cultures like to make decisions quickly
while others want to think about the decision and analyze it before coming to a conclusion as far
as action to take (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006).
There are four strategies, according to Brett,

Significance And Consequences Of The Lyndi Fourie...
After the horrific events that occurred during the Apartheid in South Africa, Ginn Fourie and
Letlapa Mphahlele established the Lyndi Fourie Foundation as a reconciliation technique that
would peacefully unite South Africans. The foundation was established after the murder of Lyndi
Fourie. Her death was orchestrated by Mphahlele s Azanian People s Liberation Army (APLA) as
an act of retaliation in 1993. Fourie and Mphahlele first met during a trial with the Truth and
Reconciliation Council (TRC) where the former was granted political amnesty. After the
consultation, they developed intentions to promote healing and reconciliation within South Africa
through the creation of a foundation. The Lyndi Fourie Foundation aimed to help conflicting parties

In regards to its effectiveness as a reconciliation technique, the foundation s head facilitator Liz
Calvert stated that each participant worked successfully on forgiving their families, the community,
alcoholism, and creating a vision for the future, (Beyond Forgiving). Calvert s statement
demonstrates that the foundation is effective as it ensures that participants are collectively focused
on forgiving each other, themselves and improving for the future. Furthermore, one participant was
quoted as saying it was time he forgave his dark side. He has a dark side and it s time for him to let
it go, (Beyond Forgiving). Therefore, not only from the perspective of the facilitator, but from the
participant s perspective, reconciling through this means is effective. In addition to promoting
forgiveness, the focus on the development of the future indicates that South Africans are
cooperating. This is compelling evidence to show unification amongst South Africans. Despite the
supporting evidence, it is important to address the economic setbacks. Without any external
financial support, the Lyndie Fourie Foundation isn t able to have a wide spread influence within the

Analyzing A Blood Sample Containing Drugs
When analyzing a blood sample containing drugs, often a normal scale or balance cannot detect
the mass of the drugs in the sample due to the small size of the sample. In that case, in order to
properly determine the mass of a drug in a sample, it becomes necessary to utilize a mass
spectrometer. A mass spectrometer can measure the mass of atomic sized particles with great
accuracy (Jeol, 2006). In forensic toxicology, mass spectrometrycan provide scientists with the
identity and quantity of a drug in a sample (Christopher Tilson, personal communication, March
19, 21016). Mass spectrometry serves as an exceptionally useful method in the field of forensic
drug analysis, as its ability to determine the mass of exceedingly small particles assists in the
classification and quantification of drugs in a sample.
Before analyzation of a blood sample using mass spectrometry can occur, separation of the drugs
from the blood must take place. If sent directly into the mass spectrometer, the blood would create
too many peaks in the results. Not to mention, the blood would make the mass spectrometer too
dirty to provide accurate results (Christopher Tilson, personal communications, March 19, 2016).
Due to these facts, forensic scientists always spate the drugs from the blood sample using one of
two methods. The first method, called liquid extraction, works by adding liquids of different
polarities to the blood sample. By choosing the right solvents, the drugs will separate from the
blood.

Access Controls Provide A Mechanism
Introduction
Access Controls provide a mechanism, which allows an administrator to ensure that appropriate
techniques are in place to control how users interact with an IT system. It provides an avenue where
restrictions can be developed, specifying what a user can do, the resources they can access, and the
functions they can execute on a system. It is aligned with the three main security principles;
confidentiality, integrity and availability. This alignment ensures that data and resources within an
IT system will remain confidential as required, the structure will remain intact and these objects
will remain available, so as not to diminish the functionality of the system. Access controls that are
incorporated into a security plan are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the difficulties in managing this access arises from the need to provide a variety of user
s access, each requiring a different type of access to the system. For the sake of security, the need
to manage this access should be defined by one or more of the following frameworks; Role Based
Access Control (RBAC), Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC),
and Mandatory Access Control (MAC).
Statement of Purpose
The current state of the organization s access control management system is consistent with that of
the DAC model. A recent move to outsource certain business practices and continued
organizational growth has created an environment where increases in employee hiring s and
employee turnover are inevitable. An analysis of various methods of access control has been
requested, so that we can better understand how specific access control attacks are perpetrated and
their origin. Information will be collected and then analyzed in order to substantiate any
recommended changes to the current access control configurations. RBAC, DAC, and MAC will
be compared and contrasted, in order to gain insight, as to how each plays a role in reducing the
risk to a system, along with identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each. These results, along
with a detailed recommendation will be presented to executive management, in order to generate
the necessary support for altering the current program

My Career Story Interview, Jordan Scheller
The career I choose to do my Career Story Interview, which I m interested in doing, was Web
Developer. Technically, the person that I interview, Jordan Scheller, is officially a Software
Developer, but he creates/maintains websites which is what Web Developers do. So to be
completely clear, the career I will be investigating is Web Developer.
With that out of the way, let s talk about everything that has to do with a Web Developer. According
to a website called O*NET, the Strong Interest Inventory for this job is CIR, Conventional,
Investigative and Realistic. Conventional is ranked number one based on the nature to which
programming happens. In programming, you know where you start and where you end. You
might think you have a large amount of freedom to get to the endpoint, but in reality there only a
few, if not just one way of solving the problem. So in the job, it s the repetition of finding the
problem, identifying the end, and following the set path to which solves the problem.
Investigative is second on the list and this deals with the ever evolving principle of the job. Since
programming is relatively new, the area is evolving at an incredible pace and you must keep up
with it. You must learn the new information, master it, and then finish your project before anyone
else does. The final interest is Realistic and it relates to the atmosphere of the work environment.
You do not work on theoretical ideas; you work on projects that deals with people s interactions in

Asteroid Exploration And Utilization By George Botbyl
The Earth is nearing depletion of its natural resources at a time when human beings are rapidly
expanding the frontiers of space. The resources which may exist on asteroids could have
enormous potential for aiding and enhancing human space exploration as well as life on Earth.
With the possibly limitless opportunities that exist, it is clear that asteroids are the next step for
human existence in space. The resources of the Earth are not infinite, in fact, some are
depletable within the next several decades. Once high grade reserves are used up, low grades
ores will have to be used. These effects of using low grade ores on the environment and society
were discussed in the article Asteroid Exploration and Utilization by George Botbyl as a cycle of
negative consequences which build upon each other. In order to protect Earth, the next 25 years
must bring a new era in space development. Even presidential policy confirms that the United States
of America is committed to the establishment of a permanent human presence in space. The earliest
studies of asteroid mining proposed retrieving a main belt asteroid. Because of the very long travel
times to the main asteroid belt, attention has shifted to the asteroids whose orbits bring them fairly
close to the Earth. In these schemes, the asteroids would be bagged and then processed during the
return trip, with the asteroid itself providing the reaction mass to propel the mission homeward. A
mission to one of these near Earth

The Pros And Cons Of Lethal Autonomy
Lethal Autonomy is weaponized artificial intelligence. Regardless of the era, wars exist and the
weapons permeate the lives of humanity. Whether the conflicts are active or the ultimatums are
flaunted in the halls of great debate, wars are a current and future threat. Society is approaching a
waypoint by which humans will no longer fight against each other, but alongside and against
machines that possess volition. This issue has prompted the leading business owners and
scientists to present a ban against these killer robots to the United Nations in attempt to halt
development of Lethal Autonomy (LA). CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk, warns
that We do not have long to act. Once this Pandora s box is opened, it will be hard to close. We,
therefore, implore the High Contracting Parties to find a way to protect us all from these dangers
(Downs). Technology like LA is unknown, this is the main fear concerning weaponized Artificial
Intelligence(AI).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, building something like the Terminator is not the goal of governments and tech
companies for LA. It is impossible to program a computer with all the possible outcomes in a
scenario. The goal, however, is to create a system of software that is independent of human decision
making. Lethal Autonomy works by weighing the cost of every decision and acting accordingly.
Unlike human intuition, Lethal Autonomy is intended to have multiple hosts streaming and
updating new data from its surroundings, with perfect information retrieval. With this technology,
fleets of drones could be operated by one artificial mind and be articulated with precision. Human
exhaustion and PTSD will no longer side effects from violent screen time, for the machine never
tires or is affected by the horrors of wars. The underlying fear is that with this rapidly accelerating
and seemingly omnipresent knowledge the machine could usurp human

Radiation Physics Personal Statement
I am applying to the Radiation Health Physics graduate program of study at OSU. I have been a
high school Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering teacher for nearly the past 10 years. My
personal experiences in education have helped shape my vision and practices at a small, rural
school district in Western Pennsylvania. It has been this experience that has given me the
confidence to believe I am far more capable than I had thought I was only 10 years earlier. I am
ready to apply my knowledge of Physics, Electronics, Computer Programming, and digital
modeling techniques to Radiation Physics and make a greater impact to the world at large. It is
through the education I wish to obtain at Oregon State University that I will make this happen. My
collegeexperience began in 2002 as a student enrolled in the Associates of Applied Sciencein
Electronics Technology at Butler County Community College located in Butler, Pennsylvania. I
studied the foundations of electronics including, but not limited to Analog and Digital electronics,
Bipolar Junction Transistor and Operational Amplifier circuit design, Linear Circuit Analysis, and

Pros And Cons Of Tattoos
Today, older generations view tattoos as trashy, unclassy, and unprofessional; while younger
generations think they are more acceptable, art like, and a way to further express yourself.
Tattoos today are becoming more accepted by the younger generations. As a result of this it is
now much easier to have visible tattoos in a workplace today, then it was years ago, but tattoos
still have a long way to go before being completely accepted like they are amongst other
countries, and/or cultures. People like to say be yourself and don t let anyone else stop you from
being you. Yet as people grow up and start to find who they want to be, they find themselves
getting judged for many things. People could be judged for many things whether it s the color...

However, to really understand opinions on tattoos and how they ve changed, one has to look at
tattoos in the workplace. USA Today published an interview with a man named Richard Bailey.
Bailey is 45 years old and has very visible tattoos all up and down his arms. 20 years ago, Bailey
was working in a social services sector. Based on his experience in the workplace there, he said
that people were very prejudiced and judgy towards him if he were to wear a short sleeved shirt.
Additionally, he said that he would get odd looks.( Monty, Lynn ) Going back to another man
with tattoos who also receives odd looks, Kevin Bailey says that he felt the most discrimination
when getting interviewed for a job. Kevin said he was told that It wasn t the best idea to turn up
with my tattoos showing. Kevin then questions this by asking, How does a person s artwork on
their skin, deem them different to the norm of society? , following with Having tattoos does not
affect your suitability for a job. ( Bailey, Kevin ) If this statement is true, then why has it been so
hard for people with visible tattoos to get jobs? With roughly 45 million Americans having tattoos
today, ( The Progression of Social Acceptance of Tattoos ) one would think having tattoos is the
norm . Subsequently, these people should be fine

sister Corrine adjusted his birth date to make him appear 18 years old. That was the youngest
legal age to be in the military, so he was allowed to join. Audie wanted to be enlisted in the
Marines, but he was turned down for being too short. After that, he tried the paratroopers, but
they said he didn t have the right kind of build for the job. So finally, he was forced to settle with
the United States Army. After he was enlisted, he was sent to Camp Wolters, Texas, for basic
training. During a session of close order drill, he passed out! His grumpy company commander
tried to have Audie transferred to a cook and bakers school because he thought Audie was too
young and weak, but Murphy persisted on becoming a combat soldier. Finally, after 13 weeks of
basic training, he was sent to Fort Meade, Maryland for advanced infantry training. Audie Murphy
still had a lot of trouble and had to fight the system to get overseas and into actual combat. But he
was very persistent and his persistence finally paid off, and in early 1943, he was shipped to
Casablanca, Morocco in Africa as a replacement in Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry
Regiment (United States), 3rd Infantry Division. Disappointed, Murphy didn t see any action in
Africa, but he participated in extensive training maneuvers along with the rest of the 3rd Division.

Case Study Of Entrepreneur
Introduction
An entrepreneur is a person that can acquire and capture an idea, which could be about presenting
anything, a specific product, or any type of service. He would have the ability and proficiency for
taking up challenges and risks in order to present that idea towards reality and make it happen.
Entrepreneurship on the other hand, consists of the opportunities that would be needed to explore
(Akudolu, 2010).
The following case study would be presenting the entrepreneurial work of Fadi Ghandour, and his
work processes in terms of the Timmons model of entrepreneur and how effective is this model in
the venturing of entrepreneurship (Akudolu, 2010). Further, the study would state the contributing
factors and the learning outcomes from Ghandour s work.
The Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship In general discussions (Brooks, 2015), an entrepreneur is
supposed to present a new and a different idea. This is true, but bringing an idea is a different
situation. For an entrepreneur, it is also necessary to have the knowledge in how to reach the

This seems like a straightforward description of what entrepreneurship is, but executing such a
process is an extremely complex and hard task. Risking is a huge part of this process, which
could give the resulted outcome in a good, or in a bad way. Ghandour himself had stated that the
NASDAQ listing was a risking process, but even so, he took it. This is because he believes that
in order to bring entrepreneurial success, a person should never be afraid in trying (Lee, 2013).
That is why; executing an idea would require more than just the originality of that idea. In this
process, the entrepreneur initiates a specific business plan and obtains the proper resources for it,
exactly how Ghandour managed his work and contributed in a good way in other businesses as
well (Brooks,

Arguments Against Libertarianism
Libertarianism is the social political philosophy that emphasizes autonomy, freedom of choice, and
individual rights above all else. Its name comes from Liberty as in a liberty to act as a morally
autonomous agent without public or private interference. Although Libertarianism holds a
generally skeptical view of political government, it does not entirely argue for anarchism.
Libertarianismdoes argue for a limited government, not necessarily limited in its actual physical
size or scope, but rather limited in its ability, and power, to interfere into the aforementioned
autonomy of a moral citizen. There are many schools of thoughts within Libertarianism. The
purpose of this paper is not to give a defense of a specific Libertarian philosophy,... Show more

As was argued before, it is wrong for a state to impose moral values (even if those values are
right). Even more so, to do so creates inequality. Take the contemporary policy debate of whether
an income bracket should be taxed lower or higher. Conservatives may argue for a lower tax on
certain, and liberals may argue for higher tax on the rich. Both are wrong and unfair, and will
only create inequality. It is wrong, and immoral, to target a single group based on materialistic
attributes such as income. One cannot be selected for more harsher or lenient treatment based
on how much money one makes. It should be equal for everyone as it is the only fair position of
not having a law benefit one group because of X or Y trait or characteristic. I disagree with Rawl
s progressive taxation arguments. If a person, born equally into a society with equal opportunity,
happens to make more money than the rest, he or she should not be taxed any differently. For
doing so would allow the state to impose a restriction on an autonomous citizen that had not fault
in virtue of making more or less money. Equal representation under the law, and tax code, should
be what is fair. Inequalities are bound to arise, and Rawl s concern of them is a fair one, but to
impose a penalty on a demographic because of X characteristic is unfair. The law should be equal
to all. Libertarianism advocates for equality, as

Taking a Look at Phonetic Euphemisms
A phonetic euphemism is used to replace profane language or cuss words. One version of
phonetic euphony is using the first letter of a cuss word, and often times adding the word word
after it. For example saying the, F word instead of saying fuck, or the B word instead of bitch. In
the military, it s common to say several completely different words using the first letters of profane
words. For example, instead of saying, What the Fuck, they would say, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot , or
Bravo Sierra instead of, Bull Shit . In television and radio, profanitywill often be covered up by a
bleep noise. Usually, you can use context clues to figure out what the word was anyways but the
bleep is a form a euphemismbecause it covers up the offensive language. Cuss words are also
masked by mispronunciations, such as, darn instead of, damn , or shoot instead of shit . This type
of phonetic euphemism is most commonly used for the word fuck. There are many different ways
the word fuck is mispronounced, including, frick , frack , fudge , and truck . To alter the
pronunciation or spelling of a taboo word to form a euphemism is also known as taboo
deformation, or minced oath .
Euphemisms are often used to describe activities that are gross or uncomfortable. There are
countless euphemisms for pooping and urinating. These include the phrases, using the bathroom ,
and taking a dump . There are also several euphemisms for having sex such as, getting laid ,

Macbeth Ambition Research Paper
The Power of Ambition
Ambition is the force that pushes society to make aspirations and dreams a reality.
Although this is normally an admirable quality to possess, one s ambition can easily take over, and
cause damage to not only themselves, but others as well. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Macbeth
, ambition is the motivating factor for characters actions. Resembling a cancer, taking over and
destroying everything in it s path. This is most evident in the character Macbeth whose lust for
power is responsible for his own tragic demise. Macbeth first experiences vaulting ambition after

keep himself at the highest position of power. Committing evil deeds has almost become second

Difference Between Sex and Gender
Amongst the many popular misconceptions in today s society, the in depth differences between
sex and gender has grown to be one that is discussed extensively by psychologists and sociologists
too. Sex in itself is a more scientific term that explains the innate physical attributes of an individual.
On the other hand gendercarries a more social tone. Meaning, that it refers to the different clothing,
activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. This essay aims to highlight some of
the key differential aspects between these two concepts; while the term sexhas been well defined
over the years, we learn how the topic of gender managed to rake up an in depth study as well as
gain its own significance in society.

People begin to act in ways that are consistent to their self conception which is considered
gratifying. For example a boy may have the following ideological mind set, I am a boy, therefore I
want to do boy things, therefore the opportunity to do boy things (and to gain approval for doing
them) is rewarding (Kohlberg, 1966, p. 89).
To conclude, sex is the biological factor that differentiates females from males and gender on the
other hand is defined by what society considers right and inculcates in males and females that
encouraging masculinity or femininity. We can support the fact how gender has gained prominence
in the world today through facts such as how gender division of labor in the past was the norm and
how it is more of a misconception in certain cultures now. Gender does have a biological approach
as well; scientists have researched extensively how the formation of chromosomes and furthermore
different sex hormones has an effect on masculine and feminine behavioral characteristics. Along
with that, cognitive development which theorizes self conceptualization to be gratifying and
determinant for males and females is also another facet of gender development in the world today
and simply justifies how gender has extended its presence amongst us.

Analysis Of Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
In Alison Bechdel s Fun Home, the author enlightens us with her struggles in determining her
gender identity and sexuality. She does this in a very unique fashion. Alison, throughout the novel,
uses specific pieces of literature and writing in order for the reader to decipher her true emotions
and feelings toward her sexuality. On top of that, Bechdel writes her story in order to show how
these objects play a much deeper role between not only comprehending her sexuality, but her
understanding of her choppy relationship with her father. The end result is a series of connections
that bring the two closer together than they ever were. Alison begins to question her sexuality in the
third chapter of the novel. She discusses how her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the reader is able to fully realize that Bruce is a homosexual, her perfectionism abruptly
makes more sense. Clearly, Bruce is using his dedication towards the Fun Home as a way to hide
away his true feelings towards his sexuality. This would explain why he also tries to get Alison
to be more feminine, because he doesn t want her to be in that phase of confusion and not being
able to fully come out. Going back to the scene with the phone call, because Alison has fully
come out as being a lesbian, we now understand why Bruce acted so accepting of the realization.
Another book that plays a role in this central theme of confusion towards one s true identity is
The Catcher in the Rye. While the novel has many examples of books with hidden uncovering
messages, the most prominent in my opinion is The Catcher in the Rye. In the scene where The
Catcher in the Rye is mentioned, Alison is in her father s english class and she s the only person
answering his questions. What s interesting is that when her father initially asks her to read the
book, she responds that she ll do it after I put you in the nursing home (Bechdel 198). While it
seems that Alison is going to chose not to read the book in order to resent her father, in the very
next panel she s answering all of his questions. Her father is impressed and tells her that she s the
only one in that class worth teaching and Alison responds with It s the only class I have worth

My Reflection On My Nursing Journey
My Nursing Journey I once heard someone say, Find something you love to do and you ll
always be successful. If you want to be in a field where you are continually learning, nursing
would be the top pick. This paper will reflect the journey I have taken from Registered Nurse (RN)
to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with the incorporation of my learning objectives from my
clinical course.
Although, I ve been in healthcare for over 20 years, working as a medical assistant, I believe my
journey truly began with nursing school. It is one thing to do a job that you have been shown to do,
but it becomes different as I now understand why these processes are done as well as the
physiological implications. The journey to get to this point had felt like a lifelong one with many
disappointments and struggles along the way. However because of the knowledge I now have, I
wouldn t change a thing as I consider it extremely valuable.
My clinical experience for this semester was an opportunity to follow the house supervisor at Trios
Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. The courses at Washington State University (WSU) consisting of
leadership and management have taught me the value of collaboration as well as communication.
With the opportunity to follow the house supervisor I was able to apply this knowledge to my
clinical experience. This was especially good because one of my learning objectives was to
participate in the management of admissions and transferring patients in the

Purposes For Conducting Qualitative Research
Purposes for Conducting Qualitative Research
There are four major purposes for conducting qualitative research. They are exploratory,
explanatory, descriptive and emancipatory.
The purpose of exploratory qualitative research is to investigate little understood phenomenon, to
identify or discover important categories of meaning and to generate hypotheses for future research.
The purpose of explanatory qualitative research is to explain patterns related to the phenomenon
being studied and to identify plausible relationships shaping the phenomenon.
The purpose of descriptive qualitative research is to describe and document phenomena.
The purpose of emancipatory qualitative research is to create opportunities and the will to engage
in social action.
Step 1: Develop a theoretical and conceptual understanding of the phenomenon being studied;
which includes performing background research on the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon
and researching research conducted on the phenomenon s field. This step involves making sure
one fully understands the topic. One should have a clear understanding of the topic before moving
further into the next step. A significant amount of research of the topic should be done to develop
a clear understanding of the topic and how to approach finding background information in regards
to what is being discussed. For example, with the topic of social media and college students, one
should understand what social media is, how and why it is used, and

Popular Baby Names
Trading Up: Where do Baby Names Come From? The position of this article is that parents give
their kids names that they think will make them successful. Trends in baby names start with the
high income families and spread to the lower income families. 1. There are many sources for
names. A couple examples of names sources are the Bible names, nostalgic names, and place
names. Parents want to give their kids the best chance in life with a successful name. 2. Names
move through the population. Sarah was the only name to stay in the top 10 white California girl
names from 1980 to 2000. The popular names of high income families became the overall popular
names in 10 years. Names that were on the overall popular list moved to being popular in low

The overall message of this essay is that baby names start with the high income families and work
their way through society to the low income families because parents want their kids to be
successful. For example, the article states Once a name catches on among high income, highly
educated parents, it starts working its way down the socioeconomic ladder. Kids names in
successful high income families become popular because lower income families think naming their
baby after what successful families are naming their children will make them similarly successful.
Furthermore the essay asserts They are all trying to signal something with a name, and an
overwhelming number of parents are seemingly trying to signal their own expectations of how
successful they hope their children will be. The name itself isn t likely to make a shred of
difference. But the parents may feel better knowing that, from the very onset, they tried their best.
The message of this article is that parents hope by giving their kids successful sounding names they
will have a better chance in life. This results in names trending from the high income families to the
low income

Franco Zeffirelli s Adaptation Of The Film
The hottest love has the coldest end Socrates. This quote said by the famous philosopher
perfectly sums up the plot in Romeo and Juliet because of the everlasting love present in the
famous play. Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, either by the play
written by Shakespeare, or the poem written earlier than that. In the 20th century, two directors
created their own interpretations of the play. In 1968, Franco Zefferilli directed a version of the
play where the actors took the roles of citizens in 16th century Verona, Italy. Nearly 30 years later,
Baz Luhrmann took a very creative/different approach when he directed a modernized version of
the Shakespeare play set in Verona Beach, USA. The two films were different,... Show more content

Even the 1997 version is criticized because it removes the romantic feeling with its overall
mood. The film directed by Zeffirelli is much slower and has the romantic feel that is very
important in this story. Every quality in the 1968 film is average; there are no spectacular
effects, which could be both a good thing and a bad thing. Some people like the simplistic nature
of Zeffirelli s film, because it engulfs the viewer with its romantic appeal. Others may dislike
Zeffirelli s film for the lack of action, and the rather drawn out, lifeless dialogue. The 1968 movie
s simplistic charm and easy nature made it an instant classic. In contrast, the 1997 film is a bit
more controversial, which some people feel makes it more fun. It grabs the attention of modern
audiences. Clearly, it is more truthful, and at the same time, more interesting to watch. One of the
best positives for this film is the use of music throughout. The same song serves as background
music for most, if not all, of the encounters between Romeo and Juliet. The music sets this film
apart from the 1968 version in a very positive way. Though it is less traditional as compared to the
1968 film, it still holds the appeal of being romantic because it is more appealing towards modern

Immigration Quota Law Of The 1920 s
Chicago s Al Capone. Prohibition remained law until 1933, just as the Twenty first Amendment
withdrew the Eighteenth Amendment.
The period between 1900 and 1915 is thought to be the peak of immigration. More than ten million
people came to the United States looking for a better future. The fact that these included Jews and
Catholics alerted older Anglo Saxon and Protestant American citizens. They also disliked the fact
that newcomers with their Old World customs, dared to compete for low wage jobs. As the tension
over immigration rose, a series of anti immigration measures were taken. Immigration Quota Law
of 1924 and a 1929 act, both of these laws limited the number of immigrants to over a hundred
thousand to be distributed among people of different nationalities as oppose to the number of the
fellow countrymen already living in the United States in 1920. ... Show more content on

Various literacy tests that prevented African Americans and other immigrants from voting were

deal with the terror of the Ku Klux Klan. Klansmen tortured and killed their victims, among them
Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. They were however, rarely punished for their violent actions.
By the end of the decade, the Klan s membership suddenly abated. Despite being known for the

Shinto practices include shrine visits; blessings done by priests at the shrines and in the
community; participation in festivals and seasonal holidays, especially New Years; water

structure, Shinto has generated an amazing variety of sects that often borrow from Confucianism,
Buddhism, and even Christianity. (Molloy 2008 p. 274 275) Is it wrong to celebrate one s country as

UML consists of several diagrams which are used in developing the project or software. Among
those 6 diagrams are used frequently to develop the software. Use case diagram is the
representation of the interaction between the customer or the user with the system or product. Class
diagram shows the architecture of the software by determining the classes used in the system.
Activity diagrams are the pictorial notation of the steps which are followed in developing the
system. Collaboration diagram shows the interaction between the objects and classes of the system.
Sequence diagram defines the steps involved in the project and in which order they should occur.
State chart diagrams are typically used to define the properties of the software. Object diagram is
alike to the class diagram, which concentrates on the attributes and classes of the product.
Component diagram shows how small chunks of components are combined unitedly to form a
bigger component of the product. Deployment diagram depicts how the system should deploy and
where the deployment should be done.
But the three diagrams Object, Component and Deployment diagrams are not included in the
research conducted by the OMG group, as they are not used frequently and to keep the research at
a lower level. The Group OMG corresponded to support the research and informed every member

Agar is derived from polysaccharide agarose, which forms the supporting structure in the cell
walls of certain species of algae, and is released on boiling. Agar is actually the resulting mixture
of two components: the linear polysaccharide agarose, and a diverse mixture of smaller molecules
called agaropectin.

The importance to repeat experiments is to make sure that the results can be replicated, and that the
experiment results were not flawed. For the most accurate measurements, the highest and lowest
numbers measured need to be removed and keep and use the middle measurement.
A pattern emerged with our results, the bigger the cube surface area, the less the cube diffused in
the acid. With only one exception the 2CM block of agar (error). The results emerged shows with
a block with larger surface area, the less it diffuses in this experiment, the acid.
Conclusion
From the results of this investigation agar blocks with higher surface to volume ratio will diffuse
slower than ones with lower surface to volume ratio. This is done by the process of diffusion. The
hypothesis was correct, as the bigger the cube was the less it diffused and the agar had a chemical
reaction with the sulphuric acid. The chemical reaction caused the agar to change its purple colour
to almost transparent.
Abstract
Purpose and procedure The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of surface area to

Pearl Harbor Reaction Paper
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was the single most important event of the century and there
are many lessons learned from this event that can be applied to modern day military principles.
Complacency on the part of the United States Government and senior military officials played a key
role in this attack being successful. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that
matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the
high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then
maybe the attack could have been prevented. In terms of technology, the United States had a
distinct advantage at the time, especially since the Japanese communications code was not only
broken, but remained unchanged for a significant amount of time. There were plenty of indicators
that were collected by United States intelligence activities and by Washington; however, most of the
critical information collected was never appropriately passed to the people that needed it most, the
commanders in the field. And finally, when the commanders in the field were weary of an
impending attack, their request for additional men, weapons, and equipment went unanswered
despite Washington having enough information to substantiate the concern.

reconnaissance efforts in the Pacific should have been the priority of effort. With the amount of

vicinity of Midway Island. Had those aircraft carriers been performing regular reconnaissance
flights, they may have been able to spot the Japanese Imperial Navy on their course for Pearl

Essay On Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) was pioneered by Dr Aaron T. Beck in the 1960s, while he
was a psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania. Having studied and practiced psychoanalysis,
Dr Beck designed and carried out several experiments to test psychoanalytic concepts of depression.
CBT is a form of psychotherapy which is very effective in treating mental problems such as anxiety
and depression. It includes techniques such as exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring without
exposure, exposure therapy with cognitive restructuring and social skills training. CBT is usually
administered within sixteen regular sessions where patients learn to control their thinking and

Individuals usually develop negative thoughts and harmful ideas when they are in distress. If this
pattern of thinking continues for a long time, it can cause anxiety problems and depression. People
can learn to identify their distorted beliefs and modify them to more positive and rational thoughts
by training their brain to respond differently and think healthfully. Cognitive therapy focuses on
teaching patients to relax and to be in control of their thoughts and ideas by neutralising negative
thoughts with positive ones. In cognitive therapy, it s also important to teach patients to move
forward from their pasts, step by step, as the process of changing the pattern of thinking is gradual.
Two very important factors for a successful cognitive therapy are determination and focusing.
Patients need to focus on what exactly is causing their social anxiety first before they start working
on overcoming the setbacks. Needless to say, patients must be equipped with patience and
determination to overcome anxiety as the process takes time and positive results do not quickly

Assess Whether Pericles Was A Good or Bad Leader
Pericles (C. 495 429 BC) was a very influential politician and general in Athens. He is said to have
brought about a very important time in Athenian history known as The Golden Age of Athens
where he brought about or placed focus on certain things like art, which gave Athens the reputation
as the cultural and educational centre of Ancient Greece, architecture, where he created a project to
beautify the city and provide work for Athenians with most of its products like the Parthenon still
surviving and giving us an idea of the glory of Athens. He also made valuable contributions to
drama, the bringing about of democracy and the establishment of the Greek empire.

Other symbolic attributes for a lion are strength, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority,
dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity which I believe are all attributes displayed by Pericles in
both his political and military career. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the
home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens.
There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by
the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the
people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes.
Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in
chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the
Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with
strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills.
Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not
carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. The evidence, as said in the last
paragraph is in his great speeches and his ability to draw a certain reaction from the Athenian people
and so though some may argue that he left the Athenians with no authoritative leader which could
only be gained

Essay On Afro-Black Slavery
The South was in desperate need of workers in the time before the mid seventeenth century;
however their help arrived in the mid seventeenth century in the form of black workers. There
once was an idea that the Afro Black race was the only eligible people that should populate the
system of slavery in America. Afro Black slaveryin the United States of America has been argued
in two ways by historians and researchers. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the two points
that one side asking if slavery was the result of white racism and the other side asking if white
racism was a result of slavery. The second point was rather or not white racism was a result of
slavery. In the year of 1950, an influential article was published by Oscar and Mary Handlin.
Their article compared slavery to the other ways of bondage, by discussing that what separated
slavery from other ideals and ways of service was that it was only limited to the African people, it
was a permanent ordeal, and that it was inherited from one generation to another. The Handlins

In terms of using the Scorecard for plant quality engineers, Ellie Smith commented that although
the Scorecard improved the awareness about the performance of suppliers, it did not increase the

during the evaluating process. Moreover, the Scorecard did not incorporate with suppliers feedback
and Metalcraft also lacks process of evaluating the products of suppliers and make further

Generational Differences in the Classroom
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It
should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to
being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in
order to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the
workforce and those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and

It is important for these adult students to have time to understand concepts that involve the use of
technology. The next generation to be examined is the Baby Boomers, the Baby Boomers were
born in the early 1940 s to early 1960 s. This generation occupies a lot of top executive roles in the
workforce and are not retiring as they were expected to (Levonius, 2015). The Baby Boomers were
taught to grow up questioning authority and standing up for themselves when they needed to.
Around the time this generation was in school there was a grade inflation in the educational system,
and the Boomer s strived to achieve these high grade marks. Baby Boomers were taught in a linear
fashion, they were taught by lecture, and the technology they had included overhead projectors and
some videos (Warren, 2012). Since this generation was accustomed to trying to achieve high grades
they became achievement oriented adults. Education was quite a bit different from earlier
generations in this era (Olson, 2011). There was more emphasis placed on students to finish high
school, and for the first time in history more students were attending college. From both the size

these are what make you a good leader. I believe that there are many major qualities that can make
a leader great. These two that I will explain are the same traits that reside within Jonathan.
A leader must be honest. Without honesty, there is no trust. Without trust, no one will believe your
ideas, and if people don t believe in your ideas then they won t support you. According to Inc.com,
Strong leaders treat people the way they want to be treated (The 9 Traits That Define Great
Leadership). It is so important that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You must be inspiring. If you put all of the attributes you can think of together, what you come
up with is a truly inspiring leader: one who communicates with others clearly, tells them nothing
but the truth, and inspires them to be the best that they can be. Inspiration means that you can
lead by example. If a leader shows that they are committed to their work, then their followers
will do the same. CNN.com says that a good leader must, Live, beathe, eat and sleep your
mission (23 Traits of Good Leaders). This quote shows that a leader must set a goal and don t stop
until you reach it. Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a perfect example. Jonathan practiced his flying
every day. He never took breaks. He never ceased. The other gulls that he taught saw this
commitment and drive that their leader possessed, especially Fletch. Jon inspired Fletch to be the
best form of himself. That is true

Children with Learning Disabilities Essay
Children with Learning Disabilities Do you know anyone who suffers from a learning
disability? There are several disabilities out there, so chances are you must know someone who
battles with the day to day hassles. But, are learning disabilities really a hassle? More often than
not, this can be considered a misconception. Learning disabilities (LD) affect the way a person of
at least average intelligence receives, stores, and processes information (NCLD 2001). This
neurological disorder prevents children especially from being able to perform well academically.
Therefore more time and special programs are fostered to them. Once one is educated about what
the disability means, the causes of LD, what programs are available to... Show more content on

Understanding a foreign language is also not one of their strong points. A child with a learning
disability does not perform well on tests, especially when they are timed, often refuses to do
written work, and has trouble decoding words. This usually means that they have trouble
hearing and understanding a person s directions since they cannot decode the message properly.
(Silverman) Of the three previously mentioned diseases, Dyslexia impairs a person s ability to
read, write, and spell (NINDS 2003). Although they are of normal intelligence, their reading level
is below average. They will usually have trouble with phonological processing (the manipulation
of sounds) and/or rapid visual verbal responding. (NINDS 2003). Children with dyslexia complain
they cannot read their textbooks, do not have enough time to finish tests, cannot take notes, and
are unable to read their own handwriting (GVSU 2000). Dyslexia does not affect every person
the same way, and signs of the disorder may not be prevalent until later, when grammar and more
in depth writing skills are introduced. Dyslexia can also create a difficulty in processing
vocabulary and thoughts correctly when speaking, and understanding what one says when they are
spoken to. Dysgraphia is another neurological disorder that focuses on writing. When a child with
this disorder is first introduced to writing, they will make unnecessary spaces between their letters,
and some letters will be

Examples Of Chivalry In Today s Society
Chivalry in Today s Society Chivalry: a simple code that in today s society is almost obsolete.
However, society would greatly benefit from chivalrous acts. This nation has forgotten the
meaning of this code that symbolizes honor, bravery, and courtesy. In this constantly changing
world, people need a moral system to live by. If everyone could all agree on a certain way of
treating others, the world would be a better place. Humans lack a common understanding on
how to treat others on a daily basis. People are disrespectful to others without even realizing it,
and they behave poorly in all aspects of all forms of interaction. These same people often do not
take the time to listen to others opinions before making their own and interrupting to share what
they think. In fact, only 55 percent of a person s time each day is solely devoted to listening to
others (Lake). But even in a listening situation, not everyone is getting the message. The ordinary
person listens with only 25 percent efficiency (Williams). If everyone would take more time to
listen, and listen with complete attention, perhaps people could learn to get along better. One other
reason that the world has become so disrespectful is because the people, such as celebrities and
public leaders,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children lie to their parents and their parents lie back to them. In fact, 86 percent of parents lie
to their children regularly (Benjamin). It does not take the kids long to figure out that they are
being lied to. The average child will begin lying at age 2 or 3 (Gaille). This only sets people up to
continue lying in the future. Perhaps that is why so many people lie about who they are to
others. For example, 33 percent of people lie on their resumes (Gaille). No wonder they end up
working at McDonald s for $8.25 an hour. A resume is supposed to show who a person truly is so
that employers can make a more informed choice of who to

Essay on The Development Stage in Cornella Brothers Inc
The development stage in instructional design is an extremely important stage. Without a proper
development plan put in place instructional designers can become easily frustrated and expending
additional hours to do research to put the course in place. This is the stage where the content is not
only written or developed but the content is also organized (University of Idaho, n.d.). It is
imperative that this stage is done correctly so as to deliver information to students that will help
them learn to the fullest and really grasp the information. The following will discuss what happens
in the development stage at Cornella Brothers Inc. when developing a safetymeeting.

When deciding on a safety meeting, managers need to decide what the company needs to address
with their employees and then the Safety Officer at Cornella will create a Power Point or show
pictures of the violations (Work Place Safety Experts, 2010).
Inputting Technology Cornella Brothers is a medium sized family business. The organization is
nowhere near being large enough to have an IT Department. Due to this managers and the safety
officer hold many hats in the organization. The Safety Officer or one of the managers will input the
information into technology. It would be nice to have an IT Department or even an accountant to
do the billing but these tasks falls upon the managers.
Beta Testing There really is no beta test involved in the safety classes. Employees are expected to
follow the guidelines put in place at these classes. Managers will ensure that the employees are
following government regulations and the company s regulations. A part of their employment
obligation is following the safety rules and managers do enforce this. During the classes there is a
discussion period in which employees have the opportunity to voice their concerns or ask questions;
in this way managers can be sure the employees understand what is expected of them and can
respond immediately or discuss pertinent matter further.
Conclusion
At Cornella Brothers, the subject matter experts are the ones who author the

What strategies or interventions were used in response to these barriers? After considering the interventions suggested by Brett, Behfar, and Kern (2006), explain how you might change the strategy if you encounter the barrier(s) in the future and if so, why? If you have not personally experienced any of these barriers during your education or work history, research an example of a barrier from literature, explain the intervention used in that example, and your suggestions for overcoming the barrier in the future. Other cultures tend to use an indirect form of communication where their true response is embedded in the presentation of the message. Accents and fluency problems also cause barriers as it is hard to understand someone with a thick accent or to speak with someone who has little knowledge and working use of a foreign language that another team member might use. The group member might have an idea of how to say something in their head but can t find the words in another language to share the idea (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006). Some individuals on the team might also want to be treated according to their status in the organization. A challenge inherent in multicultural teammates is that by design, teams have a rather flat structure. Team members from some cultures, are uncomfortable on flat teams (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006, p. 124). It is important to recognize the hierarchy structure of the country and how their citizens handle conflict before conducting business with them. Lastly, different cultures have conflicting norms when it comes to decision making. Some cultures like to make decisions quickly while others want to think about the decision and analyze it before coming to a conclusion as far as action to take (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006). After the horrific events that occurred during the Apartheid in South Africa, Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele established the Lyndi Fourie Foundation as a reconciliation technique that would peacefully unite South Africans. The foundation was established after the murder of Lyndi Fourie. Her death was orchestrated by Mphahlele s Azanian People s Liberation Army (APLA) as an act of retaliation in 1993. Fourie and Mphahlele first met during a trial with the Truth and Reconciliation Council (TRC) where the former was granted political amnesty. In regards to its effectiveness as a reconciliation technique, the foundation s head facilitator Liz Calvert stated that each participant worked successfully on forgiving their families, the community, alcoholism, and creating a vision for the future, (Beyond Forgiving). Calvert s statement demonstrates that the foundation is effective as it ensures that participants are collectively focused on forgiving each other, themselves and improving for the future. Furthermore, one participant was quoted as saying it was time he forgave his dark side. He has a dark side and it s time for him to let it go, (Beyond Forgiving). Therefore, not only from the perspective of the facilitator, but from the participant s perspective, reconciling through this means is effective. In addition to promoting forgiveness, the focus on the development of the future indicates that South Africans are cooperating. This is compelling evidence to show unification amongst South Africans. • 5. Analyzing A Blood Sample Containing Drugs When analyzing a blood sample containing drugs, often a normal scale or balance cannot detect the mass of the drugs in the sample due to the small size of the sample. In that case, in order to properly determine the mass of a drug in a sample, it becomes necessary to utilize a mass spectrometer. A mass spectrometer can measure the mass of atomic sized particles with great accuracy (Jeol, 2006). In forensic toxicology, mass spectrometrycan provide scientists with the identity and quantity of a drug in a sample (Christopher Tilson, personal communication, March 19, 21016). Mass spectrometry serves as an exceptionally useful method in the field of forensic drug analysis, as its ability to determine the mass of exceedingly small particles assists in the classification and quantification of drugs in a sample. Before analyzation of a blood sample using mass spectrometry can occur, separation of the drugs from the blood must take place. If sent directly into the mass spectrometer, the blood would create too many peaks in the results. Not to mention, the blood would make the mass spectrometer too dirty to provide accurate results (Christopher Tilson, personal communications, March 19, 2016). Due to these facts, forensic scientists always spate the drugs from the blood sample using one of two methods. The first method, called liquid extraction, works by adding liquids of different polarities to the blood sample. By choosing the right solvents, the drugs will separate from the blood. ... It is aligned with the three main security principles; confidentiality, integrity and availability. One of the difficulties in managing this access arises from the need to provide a variety of user s access, each requiring a different type of access to the system. For the sake of security, the need to manage this access should be defined by one or more of the following frameworks; Role Based Access Control (RBAC), Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC), and Mandatory Access Control (MAC). Statement of Purpose The current state of the organization s access control management system is consistent with that of the DAC model. A recent move to outsource certain business practices and continued organizational growth has created an environment where increases in employee hiring s and employee turnover are inevitable. Technically, the person that I interview, Jordan Scheller, is officially a Software Developer, but he creates/maintains websites which is what Web Developers do. So to be completely clear, the career I will be investigating is Web Developer. With that out of the way, let s talk about everything that has to do with a Web Developer. According to a website called O*NET, the Strong Interest Inventory for this job is CIR, Conventional, Investigative and Realistic. Conventional is ranked number one based on the nature to which programming happens. In programming, you know where you start and where you end. • 8. Asteroid Exploration And Utilization By George Botbyl The Earth is nearing depletion of its natural resources at a time when human beings are rapidly expanding the frontiers of space. The resources which may exist on asteroids could have enormous potential for aiding and enhancing human space exploration as well as life on Earth. With the possibly limitless opportunities that exist, it is clear that asteroids are the next step for human existence in space. The resources of the Earth are not infinite, in fact, some are depletable within the next several decades. Once high grade reserves are used up, low grades ores will have to be used. These effects of using low grade ores on the environment and society were discussed in the article Asteroid Exploration and Utilization by George Botbyl as a cycle of negative consequences which build upon each other. In order to protect Earth, the next 25 years must bring a new era in space development. Even presidential policy confirms that the United States of America is committed to the establishment of a permanent human presence in space. The earliest studies of asteroid mining proposed retrieving a main belt asteroid. Because of the very long travel times to the main asteroid belt, attention has shifted to the asteroids whose orbits bring them fairly close to the Earth. In these schemes, the asteroids would be bagged and then processed during the return trip, with the asteroid itself providing the reaction mass to propel the mission homeward. Whether the conflicts are active or the ultimatums are flaunted in the halls of great debate, wars are a current and future threat. Society is approaching a waypoint by which humans will no longer fight against each other, but alongside and against machines that possess volition. This issue has prompted the leading business owners and scientists to present a ban against these killer robots to the United Nations in attempt to halt development of Lethal Autonomy (LA). CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk, warns that We do not have long to act. Once this Pandora s box is opened, it will be hard to close. Its name comes from Liberty as in a liberty to act as a morally autonomous agent without public or private interference. Although Libertarianism holds a generally skeptical view of political government, it does not entirely argue for anarchism. Libertarianismdoes argue for a limited government, not necessarily limited in its actual physical size or scope, but rather limited in its ability, and power, to interfere into the aforementioned autonomy of a moral citizen. As was argued before, it is wrong for a state to impose moral values (even if those values are right). Even more so, to do so creates inequality. Take the contemporary policy debate of whether an income bracket should be taxed lower or higher. Conservatives may argue for a lower tax on certain, and liberals may argue for higher tax on the rich. Both are wrong and unfair, and will only create inequality. It is wrong, and immoral, to target a single group based on materialistic attributes such as income. One cannot be selected for more harsher or lenient treatment based on how much money one makes. It should be equal for everyone as it is the only fair position of not having a law benefit one group because of X or Y trait or characteristic. I disagree with Rawl s progressive taxation arguments. If a person, born equally into a society with equal opportunity, happens to make more money than the rest, he or she should not be taxed any differently. For doing so would allow the state to impose a restriction on an autonomous citizen that had not fault in virtue of making more or less money. Equal representation under the law, and tax code, should be what is fair. Inequalities are bound to arise, and Rawl s concern of them is a fair one, but to impose a penalty on a demographic because of X characteristic is unfair. The law should be equal to all. Difference Between Sex and Gender Amongst the many popular misconceptions in today s society, the in depth differences between sex and gender has grown to be one that is discussed extensively by psychologists and sociologists too. Sex in itself is a more scientific term that explains the innate physical attributes of an individual. On the other hand gendercarries a more social tone. Meaning, that it refers to the different clothing, activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. To conclude, sex is the biological factor that differentiates females from males and gender on the other hand is defined by what society considers right and inculcates in males and females that encouraging masculinity or femininity. We can support the fact how gender has gained prominence in the world today through facts such as how gender division of labor in the past was the norm and how it is more of a misconception in certain cultures now. Background biology Agar Agar is derived from polysaccharide agarose, which forms the supporting structure in the cell walls of certain species of algae, and is released on boiling. Agar is actually the resulting mixture of two components: the linear polysaccharide agarose, and a diverse mixture of smaller molecules called agaropectin. The importance to repeat experiments is to make sure that the results can be replicated, and that the experiment results were not flawed. For the most accurate measurements, the highest and lowest numbers measured need to be removed and keep and use the middle measurement. A pattern emerged with our results, the bigger the cube surface area, the less the cube diffused in the acid. With only one exception the 2CM block of agar (error). The results emerged shows with a block with larger surface area, the less it diffuses in this experiment, the acid. Conclusion From the results of this investigation agar blocks with higher surface to volume ratio will diffuse slower than ones with lower surface to volume ratio. This is done by the process of diffusion. The hypothesis was correct, as the bigger the cube was the less it diffused and the agar had a chemical reaction with the sulphuric acid. The chemical reaction caused the agar to change its purple colour to almost transparent. • 30. Pearl Harbor Reaction Paper The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was the single most important event of the century and there are many lessons learned from this event that can be applied to modern day military principles. Complacency on the part of the United States Government and senior military officials played a key role in this attack being successful. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then maybe the attack could have been prevented. In terms of technology, the United States had a distinct advantage at the time, especially since the Japanese communications code was not only broken, but remained unchanged for a significant amount of time. There were plenty of indicators that were collected by United States intelligence activities and by Washington; however, most of the critical information collected was never appropriately passed to the people that needed it most, the commanders in the field. And finally, when the commanders in the field were weary of an impending attack, their request for additional men, weapons, and equipment went unanswered despite Washington having enough information to substantiate the concern. CBT is a form of psychotherapy which is very effective in treating mental problems such as anxiety and depression. If this pattern of thinking continues for a long time, it can cause anxiety problems and depression. People can learn to identify their distorted beliefs and modify them to more positive and rational thoughts by training their brain to respond differently and think healthfully. Cognitive therapy focuses on teaching patients to relax and to be in control of their thoughts and ideas by neutralising negative thoughts with positive ones. In cognitive therapy, it s also important to teach patients to move forward from their pasts, step by step, as the process of changing the pattern of thinking is gradual. Two very important factors for a successful cognitive therapy are determination and focusing. Patients need to focus on what exactly is causing their social anxiety first before they start working on overcoming the setbacks. Other symbolic attributes for a lion are strength, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority, dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity which I believe are all attributes displayed by Pericles in both his political and military career. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens. There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes. Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills. Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. The evidence, as said in the last paragraph is in his great speeches and his ability to draw a certain reaction from the Athenian people and so though some may argue that he left the Athenians with no authoritative leader which could only be gained ...
