Compare And Differences Of The Hebrew Bible
The Hebrew Bible (Tanak), the Protestant Christian, and Catholic Orthodox Old Testaments share
many similarities, as well as significant differences. The similarities are simple: they each start with
the same five books, and contain largely the same writings of wisdom, history and prophecy. In the
following paragraphs, I ll focus on the ways that the three groups sacred texts are different in structure
and purpose.
The Tanak is named for the first letters of its three its three main sections: Torah, Nevi im, and
Ketuvim. The Torah is the first five books of the Bible, each named for the first words in them:
Bereshit, Shemot, Vayikra, Bamidbar and D varim. The Torah (Hebrew for guidance or instruction )
begins with the story of Creation, continues through the formation of the twelve tribes of Israel, and
outlines the system of laws that organizes Jewish society. The next section is the Nevi im, which are
the writings involving the former latter prophets: Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah,
Ezekiel, and The Twelve. Overall, these books discuss and attempt to understand the struggles exile of
Israel and Judah. The third section of the Tanak is the Ketuvim, which translates as writings, which
focus on restoration of the ideal society and what life was like for the people of the time.
In ancient times, the order of these books was not at issue, as they were written on scrolls. After codex
books were invented in the 1st century C.E., it became

Steroids Should Not Be Banned
Steroids By: Taci Miller For many years people have debated whether not to have steroids in sports, or
to keep them away from all competition. However some athletes use steroids anyway to get ahead of
the competition. These action can cause athletes being kicked out of a game or even all future
competition. Some people ask Why use steroids? Some athletes use drugs, where they can train their
bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. Different types of athletes use steroids in different
ways depending on what sport the athlete is partaking in. Depending on what the athlete is trying to
achieve they will combine certain drugs to give them the result that they want(Knight 23). Another
reason that some athletes may start to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of steroids has forever changed the face of professional sports, making it a world fueled by
drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Roids, juice, hype, or pump are names that people may use
when talking about steroids. Anabolic steroids are different from steroids medications. Anabolic
steroids help build muscle, buy steroids can not help the ability and or skill of the athlete. Genetics,
body size, age, sex, diet and how the athlete trains determines ability(State Health Department 1).
Steroids fall into the category of ergogenic drugs. A drug that is classified as orogenetic is a substance
that can be used to improve athletic performance. Other ergogenic drugs include prohormones, such as
androstenedione and androstenediol, growth hormones, and nutritional supplements. While these
substances may act on the body in different ways, the goals are the same: to gain muscles, increase
endurance, and speed muscle and strength recovery. (Knight 7). Athletes who are doping rarely take
one kind of drug. More commonly, they will do what is called stacking, which means combining a
number of drugs in order to have the best chance at success. Unfortunately, stacking can also lead to
overdose and greater chances of permanently damaging vital organs. (Knight 23). Even tho stacking is
very bad for everyone, people

How Student Engagement And Comprehension Throughout This...
This unit plan will implement a variety of methods to assess student engagement and comprehension
throughout this entire unit. Begin the unit by gauging to see what students already know about the
1920s by having students complete a Pre Assessment. Many students are already familiar with some
of the themes and content connected with the 1920s and teacher can use pre assessment to figure out
what students are already familiar with. First brainstorm with the students to see what they already
know and then provide students with a pre assessment to evaluate individual knowledge. The
brainstorming is very general and presents an overview whereas the assessment provides the teacher
with actual data. The Unit Outline explains how the unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This assessment will consist of a project that will reflect what the students have learned over that
section of the unit. Students will be given a rubric for each of these projects.
Formative Assessments:
Students will be assessed by a teacher centered informal questioning period prior to each day s lesson
to observe their grasp of the content materials of the prior lesson. Teacher will also use journal entries
and exit slips as formative assessments as well.
Reading Assignments:
There is no text for this unit; however students will be required to participate in
Popcorn reading activities and discussion during class time on handouts and varied types of reading
materials. Participation in activities and discussions is mandatory and will be graded on an informal
basis.
Group Projects/Presentation:
Students will be required to discuss and create one type of newspaper article that reflects what has
been discussed in the required unit. Students will work creatively together arranging pictures and
designing descriptive text and articles. Groups will then present their newspaper page to aid their
classmates in understanding issues and topics of the period.
Individual Assignments: Poem Students will be required to demonstrate their understanding of the
cultural and social influences on the art and culture of the period. Students will hand in their poems for
grading and editing. Class discussion of materials will aid all students in learning more

Explain The Three Categories Of Leadership Northhouse
Northhouse (2015p. 123) has identified three categories of leadership including administration skills,
interpersonal skills, and conceptual skills. The ability to be an effective supervisor is dependent on one
s ability to utilize both the relational and interpersonal skills. The supervisor s role in the Phoenix
House is multidimensional and requires both managerial and leadership skills to be successful. The
senior social worker manages the work of four social employees and two interns from the university
and implements weekly staff meetings as the primary form of communication. Within these meetings,
the concerns and procedures are being addressed, by the social worker. According to Northhouse
(2015), administrative skills involve the

War Of Attrition Research Paper
War of attrition is defined as a prolonged war or conflict during which each side seeks to gradually
wear out the other. How does this apply to sustainment operations? Let us look at the actors, numbers,
political climate and many other factors which influence sustainment operations. The United States,
currently has troops deployed to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Antarctica, Australia, and home
in North America. Counter terrorism operations in Africa and South west Asia, counter narcotics
operations in North and South America, and deterring the Russian threat in Europe. All of these
require strong power projection platforms and a significant amount of funds and resources to sustain
said operations. The operations in Iraq and Afghanistan alone will cost the United States, in excess of
8.6 trillion dollars, funding rotations to Europe will cost $3.4 billion by 2017. The current contentious
political climate also bears heavy on how we conduct operations. Sequestration has reduced the force
and the resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings me to the state actors interfering in our operations. Russia, Iran, China, North Korea,
Saudi Arabia, and Syria have all been behind the scenes pulling strings. It has been known for a long
time that Iran, was providing assistance to insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. Russia has been
assisting Iran and Syria in the fight against us. These other countries are employing one of our own
tactics against us, war by proxy. Slowly attriting our personnel, resources, and political will without
directly confronting us. We need to prioritize and deal with what we see as the greater threat to our
interests. We cannot continue to spread a dwindling force all over the globe and expect to sustain those
forces. We cannot play whack a mole with Iraq and Afghanistan. Sustain operations have never been
more important; how we deal with these issues will directly impact weather we are successful as

Greek Philosopher Socrates And The Paradox Of Recollection
The Philosophical truth of knowledge is defined as beliefs, thoughts, or propositions that are said to
agree with the facts or to state what is the case. It is this pursuit for an empirical knowledge that has
driven philosophers to ask questions, make arguments, and debate theories that explain what we
observe. This paper will define a theory developed by Greek Philosopher Socrates in the dialogue
Meno that is called the paradox of inquiry. It will then analyze how Socrates believes the doctrine of
recollection resolves the paradox. I will examine whether this is a satisfying resolution to the paradox.
Finally, I will conclude that the doctrine of recollection does not adequately satisfy the paradox of
inquiry.
The paradox of inquiry maintains it is not possible to gain knowledge from another source because its
not possible to know if it s a fact. To break it down more clearly, if you already know what knowledge
you are looking for then inquiry is not necessary. If you do not know what knowledge you are looking
for then inquiry is not possible. And therefore you cannot conclude something as a fact from an
alternative source. This becomes a paradox because if its not possible for human beings to gain
knowledge directly from sources, then its unclear how knowledge is able to consistently develop in
people.
Socrates s proposed resolution to this paradox is introducing the doctrine of recollection. The doctrine
of recollection maintains that we are born with all the knowledge in the world, and that as we go
through life, learning is merely recalling the knowledge we previously had. More simply, we are born
with all knowledge and when we learn or hear things from an outside source it leads to us recalling
that specific piece of knowledge that we innately already had inside us.
This doctrine of recollection, as constructed, is not a satisfying response to the paradox of inquiry. The
chief reason is because all the knowledge in the world is of the same one truth. But, we also know that
the billions and billions of cases of learning and hypothetical recalling of knowledge has resulted in
many alternative realities. Alternative realities meaning that one group believes one thing to be a fact
and having another

Why Asian Mother Are Superior By Amy Cha
Despite of your background or ethnicity, all parents want to get the best for their own children. In
order to obtain a better life, some parents raise different than others but the goal is the same. In Why
Asian Mother are superior by Amy Chua, the author explains how she raise her daughters by not
allowing them some things with the purpose of getting the best for them. I have some similarities in
the way of how she treats her daughters but I also share some differences with her drastic methods. I
do believe that Chinese methods are effective; however, I do not agree with them and also I do not
believe they are superior than others. My parents are a combination of Western and Chinese, which I
believe it is the correct way to raise a kid. My parents always said to me that doing something in
excess is not good and now that I m an adult, I strongly agree with them because life is not just about
one thing. As a kid, you need to experiment new things in order to learn and know about life. As

Chinese parents sometimes are too strict with their kids. When they obtain bad scores in school, they
abuse and shame them to the point where their self esteem is very low. As Chua noted, That s why the
solution to substandard performance is always to excoriate, punish and shame the child (413). By
contrast, I do not believe that all the blame should be on child. If a child is studying hard for a test and
he gets a B, the first thing that a parents should do is talk to the child and try to help him as much as
he can. If you punish him and blame everything on your kid, he is going to be afraid of you and that is
going to bring serious issues to him. I do agree that every parent wants the best for their kids, but
sometimes incorrect methods can hurt a child more than what he or she can actually learn from

Non conformity in The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea, Medea, and The Stranger
We are constantly being affected our surroundings. As a result, our attitudes and personalities are a
product of our experiences and the various environments in which they occurred . Furthermore, the
society we live in presents to us a set of standards, values, and givens that we may or may not agree
with. In literature, the society plays a major role in affecting the characters thoughts and actions. In
The Sailor who Fell From Grace with the Sea, The Stranger, and Medea , the characters are affected
by their society, and their actions reflect their conformity (or non conformity) to it. Ultimately, non

His character expressed an indifferent view of the universe, with a tasteless, emotionless approach to
everyday tasks. Being indifferent, he cared for nothing and no one, thus being a potential threat to
society, if anything. If anything is high on the list of criteria for being a non conformist , it s being a
potential threat to society!
In Euripides Medea , the characters live in a mythological society, which for the most part reflected
the ideas and values of ancient Greece, with the exceptions of Gods and Goddesses. Since witches
have always been a symbol of evil and mischief, it is assumed that Medea, a witch, does not conform
with the society she exists in. Besides that fact, Medea takes place in Greece while Medea herself
comes from a distant land, considered savage by Greek standards. With that burden, she fills no other
role than non conformist, and the position inspires her actions which make Medea into a tragedy.
The non conformists in these works all seem to defy society to the point of a common act(murder),
with the exception of Fusako, whose actions and lifestyle play a role of indirectly inspiring the act
while not committing the act herself. In this perspective her function as non conformist is less
significant than the others . The widowed mother of Noboru, Fusako has adapted to many western
ways. In her room are shiny brass beds from New Orleans and European perfumes like eau de
Cologne (Mishima 4 5).

Horror In Dracula
Since the beginning of literature, there have been certain elements that cause readers to feel unsettled.
These elements are what evolved into the horror of contemporary times. Horror is unique in the
literature genre due to the forms that fear can take. Fear in the horror genre comes from all sources,
whether it is the way the story is approached, the way the story is told, the way the story is shown, or
countless others. Above all other aspects of horror, though, the most iconic form that fear takes in the
horror genre is the villain. Horror villains are some of the most unique character of literature. From
vampires, werewolves, and demons to killer clowns from outer space, sentient tires, and masses of
pulsating slime, horror villains take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in part due to Bram Stoker s work, Dracula. Throughout this novel, the vampires showcase a
variety of abilities that highlight their lack of humanity. The vampires of this novel are unable to cast a
shadow or appear in mirrors. This shows that they no longer bear some of the defining features of
humanity through their lack of substance in reality. These vampires do not leave a mark on the world
they interact with like humans do (Miller). The vampires are able to shift into an animal or element
form. This highlights how the normal laws of man no longer apply to them. Instead they are able to
shift their state over into other aspects of the physical world (Miller). The novel also provide several
limitations to the powers of the vampire that usually involve religious symbolism such as purifying
substances like holy water or running water having an adverse effect on vampires (Miller). Vampire in
this novel must stay on the soil of their homeland as well. This shows that the power they gain from
their transformation leaves them tethered and chained to one spot. This seems like an apt metaphor for
temptation keeping us chained to our Earthly desires (Miller). The various abilities of the vampires in
this novel are ways to highlight how they contrasted with the common morals at the time of the novel
s release during the Victorian

A Research Study On The Expression, Publish Or Perish, Is...
The expression publish or perish is the norm within all academic disciplines and researchers will not
get tenured if they do not publish academic work (Miller, Taylor Bedeian, 2011; Simmons, Nelson
Simonsohn, 2012; De Rond Miller, 2005). The same is true for professors applying for grants or
graduate students seeking scholarships, where having more publications will set someone apart from
other candidates. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as good researchers are expected to produce good
research, however standards for most scholarly journals to publish an academic article mostly rely on
significance (Sterling, 2012). Studies not finding significant results do not get published and are often
considered failures (Cumming, 2008; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following will discuss the replication crisis from an undergraduate student s perspective and how
it affected my undergraduate journey specifically. Introductory statistics are part of the problem Initial
statistical courses are exciting, as students are taught the foundations of conducting research by
learning about inferential statistics. However, important topics such as power, confidence intervals and
effect sizes are briefly discussed and quickly forgotten due to the large amount of new information
taught in those courses. Over time, students simply learn to rely on p values, where p .05, the null
hypothesis is rejected and p .05, the null hypothesis is retained. Statistics are overwhelming and a lot
of practice and reading are required to fully understand how it really works. I am a fourth year student
and consider myself as having a higher than average knowledge of statistics compared to most fellow
students in my year, but I have a lot to learn and am aware that I still do not understand most of it.
That is one reason why NHST is surviving, as it is convenient and a strong statistical knowledge is not
needed to apply it in research. The point is that appropriate ways to interpret statistics and ethical
research practices should be taught as early as possible to avoid the use of common unethical research
practices. Next, students learn

Choosing A Slide Show
When you re celebrating a person s life (such as at a wedding or an anniversary), it s useful to create
some form of photo display. The two most common displays, the photo collage and slide show, each
have their advantages and disadvantages. Make sure to fully consider both option before choosing.
Why Choose A Photo Collage?
Photo collages are generally useful if you have artistic skill and about two to three days to work. You
will choose photos and make either a physical collage or a digital one. Making a physical college is
tricky: it requires cutting out photos and gluing them to a large piece of wood or cardboard. Each
photo should be arranged in an artistically intriguing way or in a way that catches the eye.
The nice thing about physical collages is that you don t need a computer to display them. However,
digital collages (which require image editing software to make) can be displayed by a large projector

People that make slide shows often choose them because they re a lot easier to make than a collage.
Generally speaking, you just need to upload your photos to a computer, run them through a slide show
program, and arrange them in a logical fashion. You ll likely need to create some form of display
labeling the photos, but those can be easily drawn or designed with an imaging program.
The main disadvantage of slide shows is that you re likely going to be limited in what you can achieve
artistically. While transition filters and other effects can be utilized, they won t let you create the dense
effect of a collage. As a result, they re more useful in situations where a logical and reasonable display
of photos is expected, such as at a graduation or athletic award event.
Which Should I Choose?
In the end, the choice really depends on what you want to achieve with your presentation. If you re
trying to create a dense and artistic representation of a person s life (and have some artistic skill), a
college is a great

States categorized in B* have a semi ban on exotic animals. This allows their citizens to own some
exotic animals but other animals are forbidden. The type of animals that are forbidden depends on the
different states. The states included under this category are Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana,
Minnesota, Nebraska, Virginia, and West Virginia. ( Summary of State Laws ).
The final two classifications that permits are separated into are the categories of L and N, in which the
states either requires a permit or do not require a permit. In category L, states require exotic pet
owners to receive a license or to at least register with the local authorities to legally own those exotic
animals. Arizona, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Texas are the states that are classified as category L.
The states that do not require an owner to receive a permit or license are specified to be in category N.
However, these states may require similar aspects of a license such as an entry permit or a veterinary
certificate. These states would include Alabama, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, and
Wisconsin. ( Summary of State Laws ).
Within these categories of B, B*, L, and N there are smaller subcategories that separate the animals
into classes. The subcategories are Class I, Class II, and Class III but the types of animals in each class

He seems to have a way of seeing through people and their tales regardless of what they may be. He is
a believer, but also knows there is a medical reason for everything. He has a mindset to get to the
bottom of everything. He is also the go to guy in the hospital if there is a serious problem. People like
him and trust him. I would say he is a confident man.

his son.
d) The cancer patient
She is giving up on life at this point. The doctor has prescribed four different types of pain
medications, but they are not working. She knows she is at the end, but the doctor does not want her to
give up. She said she lived, but is ready for things to be over. She has basically given up to the illness.
She meets the teenager and he turns her thinking around. He makes her think different, feel different,
as well as feel better. She now believes and wants a life.
e) The other doctors
The doctor s seem to be optimistic throughout this process. They seem to believe the things the
teenager states because he knows things other would not typically know. They see the medical reports,
hear the diagnosis, and see the Father s reaction, but cannot put it all together. The doctor s want to

and address the significance of the author s insight to the world of Nazi Germany. Ulrich Herbert s
Good Times, Bad Times is about the contrast between the ways typical working Germans perceived
the years before and during Hitler s appointment as Chancellor, his rise to dictator, and during and
after and World War II. The article cites a survey conducted by the Institut für Demoskopie (Public

normal times, then, clearly leave behind few experiences that are imprinted on the memory and

These financial issues lead me to my next point; our business model and its effect on our financial
situation. While our model of leaving as much individuality of our acquisitions in place as possible;
allowing previous business arrangements, staffing levels and management to continue has been
effective in building our reputation, efficiency has suffered. By not standardizing things such as
automobile fleet usage and sharing facilities, we are incurring more administrative expense than is
really necessary. By not centralizing purchasing across the board the company is not taking full
advantage of economies of scale. As growth continues the administration of costs and the different
contracts will become nightmarish. Expenses as % of total revenue are beginning to move up and
currently stand at their highest level (18%). A move away from this model, especially after the image
issues I mentioned earlier, may further damage our reputation as being the preferred acquirer. To
further complicate such a move is our acquisition of numerous rural homes which will present a
problem to the logistics of integrating services, etc. efficiently. Finally, SWOT and Five Forces

margin pressure as buyers gather more power due

Besides pleasantries, any task you assign them needs to be conveyed with precise, yet non prescriptive
language. If you are reporting bugs in your website, use phrasing such as: As a __ user, when I do __,

page, when I type in the incorrect password I get an error 404 page. I expected the error to be

scenario in which it occurred. Creating a task called login page has errors is similar to saying I live in

The Setting Of August Wilson s Gem Of The Ocean
Jessica McNamara
English 104

16 October 2017
The setting of August Wilson s Gem of the Ocean is 1904 Pittsburgh. It has been 40 years since the
abolition of slavery and the Second Industrial Revolution is alive and well. Between 1870 and 1914
the United States saw an important change in the labor and working class, technological advancements
took production from a handmade to an automated factory setting. The development of manufacturing
produced a necessity for numbers of factory laborers. These laborers faced extensive hours,
unfortunate working conditions and job insecurity.
In Gem of the Ocean, several of the characters have memories of servitude and have come to the
understanding that what they believed to be liberation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m just starting out sleeping there. I asked one fellow what board meant. He say they supposed to give
you something to eat. They ain t give us nothing. I say okay. I can t make them give me nothing. What
I m gonna do? I got to eat. I bought a loaf of bread for a dime. A bowl of soup cost ten cents around
the corner. I wasn t desperate. I had sixty five cents to make it to payday. I ate half the bread and say I
would get a bowl of soup tomorrow. Come payday they give me three dollars say the rest go on my
bill. I had to give the man what own the house two dollars. What I m gonna do, Miss Tyler? I told the
people at the mill I was gonna get another job. They said I couldn t do that cause I still owed them
money and 22 they was gonna get the police on me.
The incidents in this excerpt that Citizen describes were not uncommon for that time. During the
Industrial Revolution, company towns, communities built by businesses, developed up across the
country. Although the concept may have appeared ideal a number of companies made more money
from cheating their workers than from what they produced. During the boom in textile, coal, steel and
other industries, workers often earned what s called scrip instead of real money: a kind of credit they
couldn t spend anywhere but the company store, where prices were often higher than elsewhere.

The First Path Of Formation Of The Kazakh Diaspora
Repression was blown to frightening enormous proportions. Repressions even reached the traditional
knowledge holders Kazakh shamans baksi , which J. Assmann calls special carriers of cultural
memory [13].
During this period, the trend of migration had been strengthened, and about a million ethnic Kazakhs
was forced to migrate from their historic homeland to neighboring countries. It was the first path of
formation of the Kazakh Diaspora, but there was also a second way: creation of state borders
separated part of the kazakh people and made it difficult to communicate with the main ethnic masses
[14], this process in science is called irredentism [15]. Thus, in the second half of the XIX century
after the establishment of the Russian Chinese border part of Kazakhs who had been wintering in the
former Qing Empire territory was in the allegiance of China. Subsequently, in 1916 after the
suppression of the anti colonial rebellion in 1932 1934. During dispossession, collectivisation and
famine some Kazakh tribes migrated from Kazakhstan to Xinjiang and took Chinese citizenship [16].
The main concentration of the Kazakh migrant fell on Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey,
Mongolia and China.
Due to the special historical and political circumstances, one nation was artificially split into two parts
repatriates and local , which naturally provoke the break of once united culture in two, conventionally
called oralman and local culture. Both of these

Tom Walker, Goodman Brown, And The Devil
Tom Walker, Goodman Brown, and the Devil During the early 1700s, a traveler met a man in the
Massachusetts forest. However, this was no mortal man, but the devil. Young Goodman Brown and
The Devil and Tom Walker, two short stories, both start out in this way. Washington Irving wrote the
latter in 1824, which tells how Tom Walker profited through working for the devil. In 1835, Nathaniel
Hawthorne wrote Young Goodman Brown, which describes Goodman Brown s woodland encounter
with the Devil. The two stories share specific ideas regarding the devil, overpowering minor
deviations between each other. Both authors describe the devil similarly. In the two stories, the devil
craftily disguises himself so that he appears to be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne symbolized this through Faith, Goodman Brown s wife, whom he deliberately left behind
in order to follow the devil. The stories also expose the sinfulness of the characters, making them
unlikable. Eventually, the devil takes the souls of all the characters, including those who acted the
most devoutly. For example, Tom Walker became... all of a sudden, a violent church goer. He prayed
loudly and strenuously as if heaven were to be taken by force of lungs, (Irving 11). Nevertheless, the
devil carries pious Tom away on his great black horse. In Young Goodman Brown, all the village s
citizens, including Faith, willingly gather at a worship service for the devil. This ruins Brown s
Christian life because he now thought there was no truth to Christianity. Consequentially, when he had
lived long, and was borne to his grave...they carved no hopeful verse upon his tombstone, for his
dying hour was gloom, (Hawthorne 19). Man s corrupt, sinful nature made it possible for the devil to
capture the souls of Tom Walker and Goodman Brown. Although the stories main components mirror
each other, they still differentiate. For example, in The Devil and Tom Walker, everyone believes Tom
has made a deal with the devil, whereas in Young Goodman Brown, the author questions the actuality

Meaning Things Are Big Meaning
The Most Meaningful Word The most meaningful word in the story, ¨Little Things are Big¨, is failed.
The story, ¨Little Things are Big¨ is about a man recalling a time when he felt like he was impolite and
uncivil. This man has lots of respect for his culture and as a Puerto Rican believes in courtesy. When
he does not fulfill his imaginary duty he feels like he has failed. The word, failed, is the most
meaningful word in, ¨Little Things are Big¨ because it sets the tone. Tone means feelings or an attitude
expressed. So the word has a lot of feeling and meaning it behind it. The word helps the readers
understand how awful the character feels. At the end of the story when it says, If you were not that

False Confessions and the Norfolk Four Case Essay
``In criminal law, confession evidence is a prosecutor s most potent weapon (Kassin, 1997) the queen
of proofs in the law (Brooks, 2000). Regardless of when in the legal process they occur, statements of
confession often provide the most incriminating form of evidence and have been shown to
significantly increase the rate of conviction. Legal scholars even argue that a defendant s confession
may be the sole piece of evidence considered during a trial and often guides jurors perception of the
case (McCormick, 1972). The admission of a false confession can be the deciding point between a
suspect s freedom and their death sentence. To this end, research and analysis of the false confessions

Renegotiation of reality occurs when, by virtue of the institutionalized process of police
interrogations, the suspect perceives that his initial reality holds no value to the interrogator or to the
outcome of the interrogation, when he lacks agency to defend his reality, and when there is no other
option. In this paper, I will illustrate how each of these factors facilitates false confessions and will use
the Norfolk Four case as my vehicle for exploration and analysis.
Determining a false confession proves difficult due to the multitude of dimensions involved.
According to Kassin and Wrightsman s (1985) survey of the literature, there are three main types of
false confessions voluntary, coerced compliant, and coerced internalized. Unlike coerced false
confessions, voluntary false confessions arise as a result of someone willingly turning themselves into
the police with an account of their crime (McCann, 1998). Voluntary false confessions can result from
multiple motives, including an internalized need for punishment or to save someone else s face. In
contrast, coerced false confessions directly result from police interrogations. While coerced compliant
confessions are made to avoid interrogation, escape the stressful situation, or achieve some other
reward, coerced internalized confessions emerge when a suspects begins to

Summary Of The Angel
The angel Gabriel then reveals to Mary his true purpose in his visit to her. Don t be frightened, Mary,
for God has decided to bless you! You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name him
Jesus (Luke 1:30 31). Gabriel then tells Mary that she will bear the Son of God and he will reign over
Israel forever. Gabriel s final words are, For nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1: 37). Despite the
awesome, unexpected, unbelievable spectacle before her, Mary was able to accept that she would have
a baby despite being a virgin. Mary responded, I am the Lord s servant, and I am willing to accept
whatever he wants. May everything you have said come true (Luke 1:38). In her willing acceptance of
God s plan the Annunciation is confirmed and the Incarnation of Christ occurs. It was at this moment
that, The Word was made flesh, as the John s Gospel puts it (John 1:14) (Williamson 20). This

Present Day In American Culture
This essay has had a deliberate focus on gnomic, historical quotes in order to emphasise the
importance of the past. In truth, however, so much of history is unrecorded, so many lines of it
unrecorded. Without archaeology, all information on proto historic civilisations would only be from
written accounts, and there would be no information whatsoever on prehistoric civilisations.
Archaeology can even serve to explain modern trends. The present day has been influenced so much
by the past that the two are inextricably linked, and learning about the past can tell so much about the
present today. Equally, so much about the past can be explained using present rituals. Some Native

The King Of The Franks Essay
Sabrina Fearon
History 8G
4/14/16
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
William Shakespeare
Do you agree/disagree/partially agree that Charlemagne was an example of all three?
Clovis, king of the Franks, established the Merovingian Empire in 481. Then, in 511, he split his
empire between his four sons. The kings in the Merovingian line continued to hand down their thrones
to their later generations, which slowly started to make them weak. This was because they were using
nepotism instead of giving positions based on merit. So, after time, positions called Mayors of the
Palace were formed. Mayors of the Palace, according to the dictionary, were people of a line of
hereditary administrative lieutenants to the Merovingian kings who eventually took over royal
function and title in the Frankish kingdoms . Over time, the descendants of Clovis became to be
known as Do Nothing kings , because they relied on the Mayors of the Palace to do work. The Do
Nothing kings began to have virtually no power, but they still held on to their title as king. One of the
most famous Mayors of the Palace was Charles Martel. His son, Pepin became the Frankish king.
Pepin s son was Charlemagne. Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, was the emperor of the Holy
Roman Empire, who achieved many well known accomplishments which have shaped the political,
military, and religious aspects of Europe today. Charlemagne was known by Einhart as a good father,

Virtue Ethics Research Paper
Virtue ethics contends that to live ethically is to live virtuously, and conversely, to live virtuously is to
live ethically. This roots in Nichomachean Ethics and Aristotelian philosophy that to cultivate a happy
life over time, one must make a habit of excellence as it does not come from singular acts. Vaughn
presents this as, what should I be? A virtue ethicist is not concerned, or defined by acts alone, but the
virtues that motivate them such as compassion, honesty, and loyalty. This also relates to a whole
being, again harkening back to Aristotle, rather than just a rule or principle being followed as a matter
of rightness. To reference on the website http://www.pursuit of happiness.org/, Aristotle said that, for

His example: the right action is performed by a virtuous person and a virtuous person performs the
right action can be likened to the question of which came first, the chicken or the egg? To end the
debate, additional ethical models must be applied and this leads away from pure virtue ethics.
Certainly, all people should want to do what is right and live a life of happiness, but there comes a
point where one is likely to have to apply something more than virtue to a situation (i.e. the examples
at the end of the chapter where the decision is more between two or virtues than what is simply right
or wrong). This is where Aristotle has given additional, well thought guidance in applying Golden
Means, the balance between two extremes. And not just the most extreme in the strictest definitions,
but rather as applied to everyone given their situation, their life, their decisions and the basis for them
as well as the virtue in question. To live the sum of a happy life, all things should be considered with
this in mind, aka all things in

Who Is Grendel In Beowulf
Grendel was written by an American author known as John Gardner in 1971. This novel retells a part
from the poem Beowulf; however, it is told from the view of Grendel. Throughout the novel there are
a multitude of characteristics shown by Grendel. After comprehending the novel from Grendel s point
of view it more pronounced that he is rather good than evil, and more so a character that is
sympathized for.
Many times the perspective people have is what leads them to make predictions about the characters
intentions. The novel Grendel gives readers the chance to alter their perspective to the point they may
believe Grendel has hopeful intentions, but executes his emotions rather terribly. Grendel is lonely,
and in a way depressed because he is unable to communicate with the villagers as well as his own
mom. He is completely isolated and all alone. At one point Grendel desires to be liked by the villagers,
so he enters the dining hall in which they eat at (Grendel 51). After he enters the hall he receives such
a negative response that he lashes out at the people (Grendel 52). Rejection can truly affect the way
someone behaves. Grendel had the utmost intentions of showing the villagers he is not a monster;

Bill come on time to go! Tom s mom screamed. Every summer Tom has to go to summer camp. His

The car ride there is long. To get there you have to go far from town. You could see huge trees

The Athletic Advantage in a College Education
Attending college is not only a chance for students to further their education, but it also allows them to
experience the lessons life has to offer. One of the hardest lessons to learn is how unfair life can be.
Students who work diligently to achieve academic success in the classroom may quickly realize their
academic efforts do not pay off as much as the student athlete who possesses the ability to kick a
football fifty yards. There is an evident failure in the educational system when the student athlete s
performance and how they contribute to a winning season, is more valuable to the university, than the
academic student who strives to graduate with honors. Students who focus their efforts on an
academic based education are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, they suggest the burden lies on the faculty. In order to fulfill the student athlete s special
needs, they must extend deadlines, create make up work, and conform to the infamous special
privilege stigma surrounding athletes today (Jensen et al.). Many researchers believe million dollar
coaching salaries and the commercialization of college athletics are destroying undergraduate
education (Finn). The Knight Commission is a research group who unveiled that many universities
spend over $100,000 annually, per athlete, to provide support services and special arrangements for
them (Finn). This does not include what is already being spent on housing, food, and tuition (Finn).
Those who oppose this frivolous spending, see it far more important to invest in the education of our
students, rather than investing in a win for the athletic department. Some people will continue to
profess that our society needs to be geared towards entertainment. However, the primary purpose of
attending college should be to obtain an education, and that is being lost along the way. We need to
take a moment to reflect on the decisions we make as a society. When the locker room is nicer than the
entire medical department, or the head football coach is paid more than the governor of the state, it
should be evident and clear that a major problem exists in the university s policies and priorities.
Having said this, it is illogical to think that athletics should be

Bilingual And Bilingualism
The world is unique and big. There are many different states, countries, and cities. Countries can have
a lot in common like relationships, food, and education. Countries can also have a lot of differences
like religions, beliefs, and languages. Languages may vary but is also very important in
communication and understanding. A huge epidemic that is becoming more common is bilingualism
also known as bilingual. Language is a cognitive function that takes place in the brain, bilingualism
can improve brain function.
Broca s and Wernicke s area is located in the left hemisphere. Broca is responsible for the muscles
involved in word pronunciation within the frontal lobe. Wernicke is located in the temporal lobe and is
associated with a person s language compensation. Brain imaging MRI studies have been conducted to
view the activity of the brain during speech and hearing. Studies that heard their native language being
their first or primary language showed activation in the left hemisphere as according to Broca s and
Wernicke s area. People who knew American Sign Language (ASL) or a second language had greater

fear prevents humankind from following their desires. Larkin writes this poem in 1950 with the idea
of showing his point of view of the world. In the poem the cattles are trapped by the wires imposed,
preventing them from ever reaching their search for purer water. He shows that the world offers no

Secret Service Ethical Issues
The morality of this case is a particularly hard one to decide upon. Considering the view of a
consequentialist theory is very much different than the decision reached by some non consequentialist
views. Although these differences exist, I believe the way the moral issue is stated clearly shows how
the actions of the Secret Service were morally sound. In this essay, the moral issue was questioning if
the Secret Service was wrong to hire Albert Gonzalez. If the issue had been about Gonzalez s actions,
then I might reach a different ruling. However, because we are only looking at the Secret Service s

As cited repeatedly in the paper, the Secret Service was fully aware of Gonzalez potentially acting out
while working for them. For me, that is enough to constitute an informed decision because at least a
little thought was given to any and all potential consequences. Could they have been more careful and
provided more supervision? Of course they could have, however that is not the moral issue being
addressed here. Furthermore, I believe it is safe to assume the Secret Service hired Gonzalez out of
necessity. The government does not have the best habits of staying at the forefront of technology; the
knowledge possessed by Gonzalez surely surpasses any other potential candidates for the job
Gonzalez was hired for. Not only that, but I believe the Secret Service did all involved parties a favor
by keeping Gonzalez out of jail the first time because everyone benefits from his knowledge,
Gonzalez did not have to waste away in jail, and people did not have to lose even more money to
Gonzalez due to the costs of putting him in jail for a lengthy sentence. Also, it was nice of the Secret

Analysis Of The Article Dear Students Don t Let...
Corrupt college professors are ruining students chances of getting a quality education. Students will
typically get that hunch that a professor might be out the get them, but in reality those professors are
actually out to get the whole student body. When these decrepit professors are in the classroom, they
are not hip on modern teaching methods. This is detrimental to a student who just needs a quality
education to keep up with the competitive working world that we have come to today. The article Dear

Throughout the article Gideon Burton uses colloquial diction to put himself at the reader s level. Holy

sonnets of the overtly influential Italian poet Petrarch, giving a firm foundation for many others
including that of William Shakespeare to expand and contrast. Consisting of fourteen lines, the sonnet
follows a specific rhyme scheme and rhythm. Although seemingly compact, the sonnet is used by
many to express both the thought and emotion of the poet, from this it is evident that although
superficially short in structure, the poet is still able to elaborate to an extent that touches the reader
making it sincere to the reader at first, however as we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many ways the sonnet was as much about the cleverness of the poet as it was about his devotion to
his beloved. From this we can see that the formal cleverness does attract the reader as well as its
elaboration, with this being said the sincerity of the sonnet remains a constant theme in the sonnets.
During Shakespeare s sonnets he makes the sincerity of the sonnets known through his use of illusion,
particularly during sonnet 130 where he expresses a somewhat blunt honesty, this honesty presents the
notion of sincerity in Shakespeare s sonnets, however as we explore them further the insincerity
surrounding the sonnets becomes increasingly more evident. Sonnet 130 is used to shock the
audiences with a surprisingly honest outlook in regards to his love as a way of expressing his view
that her inner beauty is more important to him than any of her bodily features. It could be possible to
argue that perhaps Shakespeare s sonnets are sincere and as an alternative it is Petrarch s sonnets that
remain insincere as a result of the unrealistic expectation and the blindness the narrator feels when
referring to the physical attributes of Laura. Shakespeare is simply demonstrating realism as he speaks
of a real woman and not of a flawless unrealistic woman made from the creation of convention at the
time. Therefore, reality remains greatly significant when we think about perfection, nothing is perfect
in this world but rather we are faced with the concept

Revenge Porn Australia
Introduction
Sexual explicit Non consensual photography or Revenge Porn is on the rise and without adequate laws
the epidemic will only grow. Revenge porn is the sharing of intimate images of an individual without
the subject s consent. In Australia, the distribution of images may not be deemed a criminal offence
unless the images are of a child or an obvious criminal activity such as sexual assault. In order to
explore the issue of revenge porn, this paper firstly looks at how Australia is adapting with changing
legislation amendment. Followed by the current rules and laws already established such as;
defamation, Privacy Act (or lack thereof), breach of confidence, copyright and lastly the application of
cybercrimes. The paper will conclude with how strong current Australian private laws are with
assisting revenge porn cases.
Australia
There are relatively few laws dealing especially with this phenomenon. Victoria, the Northern
Territory and South Australia have enacted various laws which deal with revenge porn, though many
of these offences are extensions of the criminal harassment provisions Victoria was the first Australian
state to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases where a person is threatening to publish content for revenge, Giller v Procopets serves as
authority that an application to a Court of competent jurisdiction could be made on an interlocutory
basis to immediately restrain such publication based on an equitable breach of confidence.
Subsequently after their break up the defendant tried to share the footage of the plaintiff to the plaintiff
s friends, family and work colleagues. When the plaintiff heard of this she sued the defendant alleging
a breach of privacy, breach of confidence and intentional infliction of mental harm. This case was
significant because it followed domestic precedent for recovering damages for non economic loss
resulting from a breach of

  • 2. Compare And Differences Of The Hebrew Bible The Hebrew Bible (Tanak), the Protestant Christian, and Catholic Orthodox Old Testaments share many similarities, as well as significant differences. The similarities are simple: they each start with the same five books, and contain largely the same writings of wisdom, history and prophecy. In the following paragraphs, I ll focus on the ways that the three groups sacred texts are different in structure and purpose. The Tanak is named for the first letters of its three its three main sections: Torah, Nevi im, and Ketuvim. The Torah is the first five books of the Bible, each named for the first words in them: Bereshit, Shemot, Vayikra, Bamidbar and D varim. The Torah (Hebrew for guidance or instruction ) begins with the story of Creation, continues through the formation of the twelve tribes of Israel, and outlines the system of laws that organizes Jewish society. The next section is the Nevi im, which are the writings involving the former latter prophets: Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and The Twelve. Overall, these books discuss and attempt to understand the struggles exile of Israel and Judah. The third section of the Tanak is the Ketuvim, which translates as writings, which focus on restoration of the ideal society and what life was like for the people of the time. In ancient times, the order of these books was not at issue, as they were written on scrolls. After codex books were invented in the 1st century C.E., it became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some athletes use drugs, where they can train their bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. • 7. Greek Philosopher Socrates And The Paradox Of Recollection The Philosophical truth of knowledge is defined as beliefs, thoughts, or propositions that are said to agree with the facts or to state what is the case. It is this pursuit for an empirical knowledge that has driven philosophers to ask questions, make arguments, and debate theories that explain what we observe. This paper will define a theory developed by Greek Philosopher Socrates in the dialogue Meno that is called the paradox of inquiry. It will then analyze how Socrates believes the doctrine of recollection resolves the paradox. I will examine whether this is a satisfying resolution to the paradox. Finally, I will conclude that the doctrine of recollection does not adequately satisfy the paradox of inquiry. The paradox of inquiry maintains it is not possible to gain knowledge from another source because its not possible to know if it s a fact. To break it down more clearly, if you already know what knowledge you are looking for then inquiry is not necessary. If you do not know what knowledge you are looking for then inquiry is not possible. And therefore you cannot conclude something as a fact from an alternative source. This becomes a paradox because if its not possible for human beings to gain knowledge directly from sources, then its unclear how knowledge is able to consistently develop in people. Socrates s proposed resolution to this paradox is introducing the doctrine of recollection. The doctrine of recollection maintains that we are born with all the knowledge in the world, and that as we go through life, learning is merely recalling the knowledge we previously had. More simply, we are born with all knowledge and when we learn or hear things from an outside source it leads to us recalling that specific piece of knowledge that we innately already had inside us. This doctrine of recollection, as constructed, is not a satisfying response to the paradox of inquiry. The chief reason is because all the knowledge in the world is of the same one truth. But, we also know that the billions and billions of cases of learning and hypothetical recalling of knowledge has resulted in many alternative realities. Alternative realities meaning that one group believes one thing to be a fact and having another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Euripides Medea , the characters live in a mythological society, which for the most part reflected the ideas and values of ancient Greece, with the exceptions of Gods and Goddesses. Since witches have always been a symbol of evil and mischief, it is assumed that Medea, a witch, does not conform with the society she exists in. Besides that fact, Medea takes place in Greece while Medea herself comes from a distant land, considered savage by Greek standards. With that burden, she fills no other role than non conformist, and the position inspires her actions which make Medea into a tragedy. Hawthorne symbolized this through Faith, Goodman Brown s wife, whom he deliberately left behind in order to follow the devil. The stories also expose the sinfulness of the characters, making them unlikable. Eventually, the devil takes the souls of all the characters, including those who acted the most devoutly. For example, Tom Walker became... all of a sudden, a violent church goer. He prayed loudly and strenuously as if heaven were to be taken by force of lungs, (Irving 11). Nevertheless, the devil carries pious Tom away on his great black horse. In Young Goodman Brown, all the village s citizens, including Faith, willingly gather at a worship service for the devil. This ruins Brown s Christian life because he now thought there was no truth to Christianity. Consequentially, when he had lived long, and was borne to his grave...they carved no hopeful verse upon his tombstone, for his dying hour was gloom, (Hawthorne 19). Man s corrupt, sinful nature made it possible for the devil to capture the souls of Tom Walker and Goodman Brown. Although the stories main components mirror each other, they still differentiate. • 24. False Confessions and the Norfolk Four Case Essay ``In criminal law, confession evidence is a prosecutor s most potent weapon (Kassin, 1997) the queen of proofs in the law (Brooks, 2000). Regardless of when in the legal process they occur, statements of confession often provide the most incriminating form of evidence and have been shown to significantly increase the rate of conviction. Legal scholars even argue that a defendant s confession may be the sole piece of evidence considered during a trial and often guides jurors perception of the case (McCormick, 1972). The admission of a false confession can be the deciding point between a suspect s freedom and their death sentence. Renegotiation of reality occurs when, by virtue of the institutionalized process of police interrogations, the suspect perceives that his initial reality holds no value to the interrogator or to the outcome of the interrogation, when he lacks agency to defend his reality, and when there is no other option. In this paper, I will illustrate how each of these factors facilitates false confessions and will use the Norfolk Four case as my vehicle for exploration and analysis. Determining a false confession proves difficult due to the multitude of dimensions involved. According to Kassin and Wrightsman s (1985) survey of the literature, there are three main types of false confessions voluntary, coerced compliant, and coerced internalized. Unlike coerced false confessions, voluntary false confessions arise as a result of someone willingly turning themselves into the police with an account of their crime (McCann, 1998). Voluntary false confessions can result from multiple motives, including an internalized need for punishment or to save someone else s face. In contrast, coerced false confessions directly result from police interrogations. While coerced compliant confessions are made to avoid interrogation, escape the stressful situation, or achieve some other reward, coerced internalized confessions emerge when a suspects begins to ... William Shakespeare Do you agree/disagree/partially agree that Charlemagne was an example of all three? Clovis, king of the Franks, established the Merovingian Empire in 481. Then, in 511, he split his empire between his four sons. The kings in the Merovingian line continued to hand down their thrones to their later generations, which slowly started to make them weak. This was because they were using nepotism instead of giving positions based on merit. So, after time, positions called Mayors of the Palace were formed. Mayors of the Palace, according to the dictionary, were people of a line of hereditary administrative lieutenants to the Merovingian kings who eventually took over royal function and title in the Frankish kingdoms . Over time, the descendants of Clovis became to be known as Do Nothing kings , because they relied on the Mayors of the Palace to do work. The Do Nothing kings began to have virtually no power, but they still held on to their title as king. One of the most famous Mayors of the Palace was Charles Martel. His son, Pepin became the Frankish king. Pepin s son was Charlemagne. This roots in Nichomachean Ethics and Aristotelian philosophy that to cultivate a happy life over time, one must make a habit of excellence as it does not come from singular acts. Vaughn presents this as, what should I be? A virtue ethicist is not concerned, or defined by acts alone, but the virtues that motivate them such as compassion, honesty, and loyalty. This also relates to a whole being, again harkening back to Aristotle, rather than just a rule or principle being followed as a matter of rightness. The Knight Commission is a research group who unveiled that many universities spend over $100,000 annually, per athlete, to provide support services and special arrangements for them (Finn). • 41. The Sonnet And Early Modern Literature The beginning of the 1500 s became an important time for the sonnet and early modern literature. Thomas Wyatt and Henry Howard were the first to introduce the form to England by translating the sonnets of the overtly influential Italian poet Petrarch, giving a firm foundation for many others including that of William Shakespeare to expand and contrast. Consisting of fourteen lines, the sonnet follows a specific rhyme scheme and rhythm. From this we can see that the formal cleverness does attract the reader as well as its elaboration, with this being said the sincerity of the sonnet remains a constant theme in the sonnets. During Shakespeare s sonnets he makes the sincerity of the sonnets known through his use of illusion, particularly during sonnet 130 where he expresses a somewhat blunt honesty, this honesty presents the notion of sincerity in Shakespeare s sonnets, however as we explore them further the insincerity surrounding the sonnets becomes increasingly more evident. Sonnet 130 is used to shock the audiences with a surprisingly honest outlook in regards to his love as a way of expressing his view that her inner beauty is more important to him than any of her bodily features. It could be possible to argue that perhaps Shakespeare s sonnets are sincere and as an alternative it is Petrarch s sonnets that remain insincere as a result of the unrealistic expectation and the blindness the narrator feels when referring to the physical attributes of Laura.
