Consequences of Vietnamese Victory Against the French in...
Assess the consequences of the Vietnamese victory against the French for Indochina in the periods
1954 1964.
The Vietnamese victory against the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 brought about
dramatic changes to Indochina. These changes took place in the Geneva Conference which shortly
happened after the battle of Dien Bien Phu. General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh who were the
Vietminh s leader had only one goal and that was to unify Vietnam and declare independence from
colonial rule but however their goals were not achieved at the end of the Geneva Conference due to a
number of reasons.
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was a humiliating defeat for the French but however this victory was a
resounding victory for the Vietminh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Soviets were more concerned about the security situation in Europe while China feared being
dragged into another Korea style confrontation against the US in Indochina and therefore pressured
the Vietminh to accept the division of Vietnam. The result of the tensions at the conference due to
behind the scenes pressures and secret meetings was the Geneva Agreement of 1954. It was a
compromise which satisfied nobody. This would soon lead to a second Indochina war due to the
involvements of the U.S who sought to spread nationalism and anti communist ideas throughout
Vietnam and the Soviet and China who supported the Communist North.
The historian Stanley Karnow made a comment that America had a strict desire to not be committed to
anything being signed at Geneva because of the fact that US Secretary of State Dulles ordered the US
delegation chief, Bedell Smith, to remain aloof and make no concessions to the Communists. Dulles
knew, suggests Karnow, that whatever was going to come out of Geneva was going to be
unsatisfactory.
The Geneva Conference produced no durable solution to the Indochina conflict, only a military truce
that awaited a political settlement, which never really happened. So the conference was merely an
interlude between two wars or rather, a lull in the same war
This comment made by Karnow is true as

Competitive Cycles Of Cognitive Communication
The third phase is conflict interaction, which is the parties response to a perceived conflict which is
made up of communication, of interactive cycles of messages, responses, and counter responses
(Conrad Poole, 1998). Once these cycles commence the outcome is not in the control of one
participant, but parties make choices about how they respond based off of clues that they get from the
other s communication (Conrad Poole, 1998). The interaction between Allison, Craig, and Penelope
shows this cycle of conflict interaction.
The first part of this interactive cycle is when Allison first message Craig on Tuesday to ask him for
help while explaining that Penelope treating her like a subordinate which is creating an unproductive
work environment. Next, Craig responds to the message by trying to set up a meeting the three of
them, but Penelope is the only one who can meet and alerts Craig that she wants to talk to him about
Allison s erratic performance. Craig and Penelope meet, and discussed how there is tension between
Allison and Penelope. Allison s counter response to her interpretation Craig s meeting with Penelope
is her Thursday email, about how she felt disturbed, explains a past conflict, and then threatens to
consider alternate employment.
As shown above the interactive cycles have become trapped in escalating cycles of competitive
communication. Through Allison s interpretation of Craig and Penelope s meeting, she has started to
turn the productive interaction

The Benefits of Humor for Our Health Essay
Norman Cousins said, Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions (Moss 1). Humor is
studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people
wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the
learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote
learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or
boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of
camaraderie. Additionally, studies show that those who use humor to convey a message are often more

Introduction To Chemistry, A Natural Science, And Social...
The subjects for this study will be undergraduate students enrolled in either Introduction to Chemistry,
a natural science, or General Psychology, a social science, at the University of Arkansas in Spring
2018. Students will enroll in courses based on their own academic preferences. These courses are both
scheduled for 50 minute discussion sections that meet two days a week (TTh) from either 9:30 10:20
or 10:30 11: 20. All identifying features of the student (e.g. names or student ID number) will be
replaced with random 7 digit ID numbers that the researchers will assign to each student on the first
day of the course. The condition each identification number is in will not be revealed until the
experiment has concluded and the data is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers will also be analyzing if the type of course, natural science or social science, will alter the
note taking technique that has the highest scores. Type of course will also be a between subjects
variable. Materials required will include in class assignments related to the lecture materials. Each in
class assignment will consist of ten questions that are easy to answer if the student was attending to
what the professor was saying. All students will require a laptop or paper notebook to take notes on.
The classrooms necessary will be smaller rooms with a maximum of 40 seats per room. This small
size is necessary so the research assistants can ensure each student is using the correct method.
Additionally, one experimental condition will require the use of the app StayFocusd from Transfusion
Media (2010) which allows its users to temporarily block access to user specified apps for a
designated amount of time. This experiment will require the use of four research assistants. Two of
these assistants will be placed in the classroom to ensure students are using the appropriate method.
The remaining two research assistants will be in the lab processing and configuring the data for the
results of the experiment. Different researchers will be used to compute the data than those who are in
the classrooms to eliminate any chance of experimenter bias. Lastly, the professors will be designing
and distributing the in class assignments. Procedure Students

Malcolm X Bullet
The civil rights era as a result of cultural forces and political awakenings created bold speakers. Many
of these orators were audacious in their speeches, however few came close to Malcolm X. Malcolm X
carried a fearless attitude presenting speeches that have been etched into American History, one the of
the most iconic of these speeches was Ballot or the Bullet . It embodies ideas of self determination
coupled with an intense call to action. The Ballot or the Bullet is a great speech because it skillfully
straddles the line between inciting violence and inspiring change. The Ballot or the Bullet is capable
of leaving a lasting impact due to its inflammatory statements. Malcolm X uses these statements
carefully throughout the speech to grab the audience s attention when he is attempting to convey
important statements. Malcolm X starts the speech with a description of the difficult choice that
African Americans are facing. He states controversially at the top of the speech, The Negro Revolt,
and Where Do We Go From Here ... it points toward either the ballot or the bullet (X) .His description
of the Civil Rights movement as a Negro Revolt was contentious due to violent undertones however, it
manages to hook the reader and steer the argument the way Malcolm X desires. Therefore, through
controversy Malcolm X accomplishes two goals, first shocking than progressing society. By shocking
society Malcolm X hopes to create change. He does this through reckless actions, as described by him
in Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, The greatest compliment anyone can pay me is to say I m

Myelin Essay
Myelin is a fatty sheath that coats nerve cells. It consists of about 70% lipids. In the central nervous
system, it is made of oligodendrocytes. One oligodendrocyte can myelinate many axons. In the
peripheral nervous system, myelin is made of a Schwann cell. One Schwann cell can myelinate only
one axon. Oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells form myelin by wrapping around the axon.
The myelin sheath is a good insulator. It also creates low capacitance. This means that fewer ions are
needed to charge and discharge the membrane of the axon. Myelin also clusters ions channels between
myelin sheaths. These clusters are called nodes of Ranvier.
Myelin allows the action potential of myelinated axons to travel further than unmyelinated axons with
the same diameter. Because the myelin sheath is a good insulator, within myelinated segments of the
axon, there is a high resistance to ion flow in and out of the axon. As a result, there is little charge
leakage within the myelinated segments of the axon. This allows for the action potential to travel
longer distances. From an evolutionary perspective, this allowed for ... Show more content on

Within the myelinated segments of axon, charge flows passively and quickly from one node of
Ranvier to another. The time consuming process of propagating an action potential occurs at the ions
channels. Myelinated axons do not have ions channels spanning the entire axon. Instead, they are
clustered only at the nodes of Ranvier. So, the time consuming propagation of action potentials is
limited to small segments in the axon. This allows the action potential to move quickly. Therefore, a
myelinated axon can conduct a faster action potential than an unmelinated axon with the same
diameter. This allows for faster information integration and response in organisms with myelinated
axons (compared to organisms with unmyelinated axons of the same

Chuck Close s Life and Book Review Essay
Chuck Close was born on July 5, 1940, in Monroe, Washington, and grew up in the blue collar town
of Everett. He earned his B.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1962, and two years
later his M.F.A. from Yale University, and taught art classes at the University of Massachusetts. Close
was married to Leslie Rose for more than four decades and together have two daughters. The couple
first daughter, Georgia Molly, was born in 1973, and Maggie Sarah in 1984. He has lived with
Prosopagnosia, a disorder that impaired the ability to recognize faces, but not objects. It would be this
disorder that would shape his career as a photorealist, doing close up as a way to remember and

They say that through time people change the way they see things and lately my taste for art has
changed. Today I no longer root for Goliath, but instead for David. In today s art world we could
probably say that without trepidation that Chuck Close is our David.
Close had to overcome many obstacles to reach his success. He had to deal with many disabilities and
a life threatening stroke that almost killed him, but instead he used those obstacles in his life as a
motivation to accomplish his goals both as an artist and individual. Although I was somehow familiar
with the artist I had never read anything in length about him. I decided to make a selection of books of
the artist in order to learn more about the artist. The books that I selected would inform and delight
those who want to know more in depth about the artist career and private life.
One of the most interesting books written about Chuck Close is Chuck Close: Work (Prestel

former associate curator for the Walker Art Center, and his close relationship wrote it with the artist.

Carnival has 75 ships in its fleet and is continuing to brand the company as the fun ships
There are large barriers of entry into the cruise businesses. Ships are extremely costly and time

everyone. Additionally, Carnival recognized the shift in cruise demographics from the start. In the
1970s, cruisers were generally older, however, there was a growing trend of young singles and young
families taking cruises. Carnival developed cruises from the start with these new customers in mind.
3. In a succinct manner, state Carnival s value proposition?
Carnival s value proposition was to be a cheaper alternative to land vacations at all inclusive resorts
while providing a variety of activities and destinations in one trip. Carnival was the fun ship ,
providing contemporary vacationing to first time and repeat cruisers. Because customer retention is
low, Carnival uses a more traditional style of marketing, focusing on the short term customer.
Each brand under the Carnival umbrella remained independent, especially in respect to sales and
marketing. This encourages the sister brands to remain competitive with one another and market their
unique value propositions. However, the brands worked together to drive synergies and economies of
scale.
4. Currently Carnival is utilizing a mass marketing strategy. If they were to change tactics and
implement a segmentation strategy, which segments should they focus on and why? What would you
recommend they do: stick with the mass marketing strategy or switch to a segmentation strategy?

The Gaze In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Empowerment and disempowerment using the gaze is manifested as one of the fundamental themes in
George Orwell s novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). Written in 1944, Nineteen Eighty Four is a novel
which portrays the experiences of Winston Smith, the protagonist and other significant characters such
as Julia who are bound to live within a totalitarian regime in which the powerful forces are
manipulation and fear. The work of literature demonstrates the visionary concept of how totalitarian
regimes may evolve if they were permitted to do so. The power of the gaze is investigated in Nineteen
Eighty Four to assess how the protagonists in the book are given power and also disempowered by the
supervising gaze, the desiring gaze and the egalitarian gaze. Hence, formulating the following
research question: How does the notion of the gaze, give power to and disempower the protagonists in

The influence of the gaze is embodied in unique ways within the totalitarian regime with an objective
to monitor and supervise the citizens behavior. The structure of the empowering gazes within the two

a totalitarian society.

Analysis Of The Woman Hollering Creek
In the Woman Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros makes use of several short stories to expose the
Mexican culture destined gender roles inequalities against women. From an utterly young age, most
Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they reach
adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave their parent
s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media are assembling
a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental and marital
submission.
Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez.
Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day Don
Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez
as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don Serafin has over
Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by rejecting or accepting
individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas is just following the
tradition of asking the parents. Since her mother is deceased her father is the only option, nonetheless,
the diction suggests that rather than Cleofilas asking for permission appears that Cleofilas is being
given away. In this instance, her hand is not remotely mentioned thus laying the

Leigh Syndrome Essay
The first reported case of LS occurred when Denis Archibald Leigh examined a baby boy who
displayed symptoms similar to that of Wernicke s, description of W (new source) . Before the child
passed, he exhibited child: development regression, somnolence, bulbar palsy, spasticity lims. (JNNP)
.It was only after the child had passed, that Leigh Syndrome, LS, was confirmed through a close
examination of his tissue, as there was no other effective way to confirm LS up until modern
technology began to develop. (JNNP).
Leigh Syndrome is a neurological disorder that occurs throughout the early stages of childhood
(Wiley) In infancy, symptoms may include severe vomiting and respiratory issues, as well as failure to
thrive (USEFUL). LS in infants causes death in up to 75% of those affected, by the time they are two
or three years old they experience critical organ failure (SOLACE). And as much as 25% of LS
affected people survive past their childhood which is rare but possible (SOLAC).
Symptoms of an affected person include but are not limited to ( decreasing mental and motor function

Atomic Age Pros And Cons
When the words nuclear chemistry come to mind, many mixed emotions surface. On one side, a
picture of devastated cities that were flattened by a bomb capable of freezing the shadows of people
on the streets comes to mind. And the other picture: harnessing exponential amounts of energy, saving
lives, and defeating cancer once and for all. No matter what stance is taken, the Atomic Age has both
turned people against each other, but also has provided grounds for defeating a disease that hits each
and every one of us at home, and that disease is cancer. When weighing the pros and cons of the
Atomic Age, the pros clearly outweigh the cons. This era has brought upon clean, reusable energy,
medical advancements beyond our dreams, and a better understanding of invisible radiation. One of
the greatest proponents of the Atomic Age is the aspect of clean, reusable energy. This method of
obtaining energy was long sought after, and lead to many failures. Prior to this era, cities and other
societies relied strictly on coal, hydroelectric, and natural gases and oils. These all had their faults, or
were negative in many ways. For example, the amount of coal that was being burnt was leading our
supply to last for about another hundred years. As the years progressed and atomic science was being
diversified, the world s reliance on coal was lessening. One of the first major breakthroughs with
nuclear chemistry was the triggering of Uranium 235 to split its nucleus, releasing energy beyond

Aversive Effects of Ethanol in Adolescent vs. Adult Rats
Researchers Nicole L. Schramm Sapyta, Alexandra
DiFeliceantonio, and Cynthia M. Kuhn (2010), conducted
the study of Aversive Effects of Ethanol in
Adolescent vs. Adult Rats , looking to address two key
questions: Number one, do reduced aversive effects of
ethanol in younger rats correlate with increased
ethanol consumption? and second, are the reduced
aversive effects in adolescents attributable to
reduced sensitivity to ethanol s physiological
effects?
A sample of adolescent and adult male CD rats (outbred
Sprague Dawley derived strain) were obtained from
Charles River Laboratories (Raleigh, NC), and
maintained in a temperature vivarium standard of 12:12
light dark cycle throughout the experiement. Before
the experiment could begin, it was vital to find out
which of the 94 rats formed a conditioned taste for
ethanol, this was achieved with aversion therapy
whereby the rats were deprived of water for 24 hours,
and then given 15 minute acccess to a water bottle the
next day, this was then repeated but the water was
replaced with 0.2% saccharin solution and also
injected with ethanol. After another water deprived 24
hours, the rats had access to two bottles, one
containing water and the other with 0.2% saccharin
solution. The dependent measure was the percent of
saccharin consumption on the test day thus the rats
that consumed less than 1ml of total solution were

Long Run Growth Of Pakistan
Long run Growth in Pakistan Ashoni Kumar April 26, 2015 Abstract: Growth rate of Pakistan over the

is recognized being impressive is because of the rapid growth rate that had its quadrupling impact over
per capita income as well as reduction in the poverty. During the same span of time the country fairly

During the eighteenth century, due to the industrial revolution and the advent of steam power and

almost to have no right here since my brother left or since they have been swept by this frenzy for the

Being Male or Female Locks Us Into Roles
In most cultures, the term gender is associated with social roles and labor tasks and is usually
determined by biological sex. To be male or female is a pre constructed identity which locks people
into roles and behaviors and penalizes deviation (*). If a person identifies themselves as a man, they
are expected to perform the role as the strong, independent and hardworking man. If a person
identifies themselves as a woman, they are expected to be beautiful, nurturing, passive and dependent
on other people. These identities of male and female creates a strong divide between people and
produces a hierarchal society. These ideas of masculinity ultimately portray dominance and power
over women which further encourages hegemonic masculinity that is already present in contemporary
social structures. This idea of masculinity is highly evident in social structures such as education,
workplace, military and various forms of media. Through generating these notions of masculinity, it
will continue to place women in subordination. A part of being masculine is possessing dominance
through education. Men need to be educated in order to succeed and exert power over women and do
so through the intellectual. Even throughout history, males had full access to education while women
were prevented from being educated. For a man to be educated, he is then able to obtain good paying
jobs to support his family. The wealthier a man is, the more strength, power and dominance he
conveys. Although

The World s Second Largest Currency
The Euro is the most important event for the global financial markets since the United States left gold

its history and making, and the effects it plays on European and the United States economies. The
Euro is the world s second largest currency: more than 337.5 million EU citizens in the 19 countries
use it as their currency (European Commission). It was designed to ease the process of providing
services, transporting goods and moving capital between nations. Overall, the Euro was made for
enlarging mutual trade. At first, the Euro was launched as an electronic currency but became cash
currency on January 1, 2002. This is the first time since the Roman Empire, that a good portion of
Europe will have the same currency (Solomon). This date was not only important for the Euro but was
also the beginning of a centralized monetary policy, the European Central Bank. The European Central

The Ways Of Viewing Religion
Similar to the way in which people can choose from a wide assortment of religions, there are also
many ways of viewing religion. One of these view points is existentialism, which states that where
there is faith, not matter what in, a person has a right to make there own chooses. Many believe that
this individual freedom then leads to risk in faith and often times doubt that cannot ever be separated
from faith. It would be like having a huge tangled ball of two different colored string, However, you
only want one of the colors, so you work relentlessly to untangle this massive ball. Yet when you have
finally finished, you realized that there never were two different stings. There is only one string that is
both colors. It is the same with faith and doubt, no matter how hard you work to remove doubt from
faith they will still be the same piece of string. In his work Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, existentialist
writer Unamuno discusses this entanglement of faith and doubt. While it is important to recognize that
faith can not exist without doubt, I believe it is more interesting to analyze if doubt can exist without
faith. It was Don Manuel s goal to make the villagers happy and to make sure that they did not have to
deal with the heavy burden of doubt. He wanted them to have perfect faith without any doubt, and for
the most part he was successful. However, according to existentialists they had to have existed at least
a shred of doubt in each of these villagers. While it was

Ethical Principles Of Psychologists And Code Of Conduct
Ethical Principles of Psychologists and the Code of Conduct are very important guidelines in any
workforce. These guidelines serve a purpose to guide and inspire psychologists toward the very
highest ethical ideals of their profession (APA, 2002). There are five major parts of the Ethical
Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct guidelines. These parts include, Beneficence,
Responsibility, Integrity, Justice, Respect for People s Rights and Dignity. These are also known as
principals that start from A, and end in E. All of these guidelines are to be obeyed when working in
our chosen career.
The importance of these guidelines is to protect a client s rights, and our rights. These rights must be
applied when working with other individuals inside the workplace. It is important to give guidance to
any individual who is seeking assistance. It is our job to make sure a client is safe among themselves,
and other people. Another important job of these guidelines is serve each client, by providing the
correct knowledge that will better assist each client.
When working with other clients, individuals, or employees it is important to keep all information
confidential. Confidentiality is extremely important, because violation is breaking HIPPA laws and the
code of conduct. Confidentiality protects a client s rights, where all information that is given is kept
private. Privacy refers to the person s right to keep specific information private which includes the

Abuse Of Women In The Middle Ages
Time and views have definitely changed since the Middle Ages. The fifth to fifteenth centuries make
up the period known as the Middle Ages, where there were no televisions or internet. Not only have
we acquired new technology, things, and ideas, but we have lost some good things as well. In the
Middle Ages, there were views of women that have fallen through as time has gone by and as women
began to fight for their rights. During the Middle Ages, women were seen as dependent of men and
women were not taken seriously. Through literature one can see how the society operated and viewed
women of the time period.

The Virgin Mary was referred to as the Hevene Queen, ( In Praise of Mary 391) by the Virgin Mary
being called Queen the people showed how powerful and mighty she really was and will continue to
be. Women of the Middle Ages would not be referred to as a Queen unless they were part of a royalty
of a country. So, by the Virgin Mary being called Queen one can see that she was viewed with more
respect than women would have been. The Virgin Mary was respected due to the fact that she bore
thine Savior, ( In the Praise of Mary 391) and just with that she earned all the respect from the people.
The Virgin Mary throughout the lyric is described in a great and incredible way that doesn t have
nothing to do with how the women were viewed in the Middle Ages. The Virgin Mary was said

as Moder, mother, which show that she received the respect that a mother gets and she gives the

they believed that the real and artificial enzyme had the same catalytic activity. The model enzyme as

Cell Phone Impact On Society
Cell Phone Effects on Social Interaction in Today s Society Phones can be a beneficial tool in today s
society that can keep people connected from all corners of the Earth. While cell phones can provide
many good services to help the individual., they are ruining the basic aspects of social interaction with
others. With the use of cell phones, it can make people become less aware and distract them from

Devices can cause a big disconnection and trust amongst other family, friends and others. Since most
of the time students are spending a majority of their time in on their cell phones, it can make their
grades drop due to them not paying attention in class, which leads them to have a lesser opportunity to

Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson
Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his
psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to
adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who
proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who
they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at
each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual
resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment
that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and
the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did
however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their
life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event
leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children.
Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a
crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik
Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother

How Does Maya Angelou Relate To Racism
Maya Angelou and the Theme of Racism
Poems provide a new insight and portray many meanings. Maya Angelou, born in 1928, was a highly
achieved, versatile woman whom is an author, poet, dancer, and actress. In her poems and in life,
racism is integrated. This is seen in Angelou s familial and other life experiences, the literary devices
seen in Still I Rise, and the extension of the metaphor in Caged Bird.
Maya Angelou was born in St. Louis, MO and soon later moved to a segregated part of AK, known as

happened. When this 7 year old girl was visiting her mother back in MO, she suffered at the hands of a

How Couples Can Improve Relationship Satisfaction For The...
Introduction Couples therapy has shown to significantly improve relationship satisfaction for the aver
couple (Doss Others, 2014). What distinguishes a healthy well functioning couple from a
dysfunctional couple? A healthy well functioning couple consists of two people who not only love
each other, but also hold a high level of respect and acceptance for one another. Communication is
also a key component in well functioning couples. The root of most problems within couples is a lack
of honest communication. In healthy relationships, there is always room for growth, both as a couple
and individually. Another big aspect in healthy relationships is that each person as a life outside of the
relationship. They aren t completely dependent on each other s happiness. It is important for
individuals to love and respect themselves and not commit to a relationship because of the lack of
these qualities. In contrast, a pathological dysfunctional couple as two people who lack respect, open
communication, and are disloyal to each other. In dysfunctional relationships, couples are typically
inconsistent in sharing their wants and needs. One reasoning for this may be that they are not honest
with themselves therefore lack knowledge of what they want or need from the relationship.
Dysfunctional relationships may consist of one or both individuals being too dependent on each other,
giving the other person control over their own happiness. Dysfunctional marriages not only receive

Summary Of An Den Mond No 116
Franz Schubert s An den Mond no. 176 starts with flowing chords in the piano, a five measure piano
introduction and then a soft entry of the vocal line. An den Mond no. 116 starts with no piano
introduction, rather the vocalist has the downbeat with the pianists left hand and the piece has started.
The two renditions of the An den Mond each hold very individual techniques for conveying the lieder
as well as the notes at the same time with an equally relatable tone. An de Mond No. 116 starts off
with two measure phrase pattern that continues throughout the whole piece. From the very start the
piece visually defines phrase endings as they are marked by a half note. This naturally shows a
cadence as it slows down the line and then continues with a change of thought. However, only one out
of all eight of the half note phrase endings ends up. The phrases are therefore quick but also give a
solemn downwards feel. The lieder captures this as well. The text is very calm and reflective and for
the only phrase that ends up it puts emphasis on the words at last (Measure 6). These two words so the
accomplishment of a desire that has just been filled. The words also show that there is a sadness that
comes with the lieder. An de Mond No. 116 also develops moments of romance. The romance appears
to be between the performer and a friend as the text that starts in measure nine suggests. You cast your
soothing gaze over my fields; with a friend s gentle eye, you watch over my fate.

methods for reducing pain and managing or preventing possible impairments or disabilities in patients.
Instead of drugs or surgeries, mechanical movements, massages and specific exercises are used to help
the patients. Not only does that prevent you from getting an extremely highly priced surgery but also it
saves you from the long period of drug use that follows after it. PTs treat patients individually and
develop a specific plan and regimen for each patient that caters to the patients needs. Physical Therapy

Thomas Paine s Common Sense
Thomas Paine s Common Sense, on the surface, is a call for the dissolution of British monarchial hold
on American society. Upon closer inspection of his rhetoric, historical references, and his concept of
independence, his audience witnesses more than just an incitement to revolution. Paine is
redeveloping the American concept of rights and, thus, redefining its roots. By eliminating British ties
in this pamphlet, he creates a rights foundation that relies on discourse and national institutions.
Common Sense opens with a statement asserting the purpose of government which is to exist in
opposition to society s tendency to fall to corruption through the vices of individuals. Whereas society
gives into pleasures, government acts as a set of regulations to ensure the well being of all (Paine 74).
This government, which comes from the people and serves the people, must fill the role that moral
virtue cannot. According to Paine, this is precisely where England s constitution proves to be lacking.
The English constitution depends on the moral proclivity of one individual, and this leaves the well
being of inhabitants in jeopardy. Paine abhors the concept or belief in moral authority flowing down
from and passing down from a king and his progeny (Paine 84). Contesting the established American
governmental dependence on the British, Thomas Paine exclaimed that the rights of man cannot be
allowed to be dependent upon the mercy of a king, a single man. Therefore, where does the

Transpiration Lab Report
Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum
Kimberly Smith
Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin
September 11, 2017
Biology 156 3T1 Abstract
This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this
experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the
stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato
plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato
plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light,
faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of
transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min,
with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm/min. The cause of the wind having a faster
transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato
plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is
7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and
understand why it happens. Introduction
What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure
becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor

The Environmental Effects Of The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill
The Exxon Valdez Oil spill in 1989 had ran into Bligh Reef in Prince William Sounds in Alaska; 11
million gallons of crude oil was spilled and eventually covered 1,000 miles of coastline. Many animals
were affected and were killed such as sea otters and sea birds. The spill had a detrimental effect on the
food chain. Over time the sea water started to convert the oil into an emulsion that looks like mousse.
This emulsion is very difficult to remove from the sea water. The oil spill had spread southwest
because of harsh winds. It spread to the Alaska Peninsula from Prince William Sound about 750km
(470 miles) in trajectory. The clean up efforts came from the U.S. Coast Guard, Exxon, and the Alaska
Department of Environmental Conservation. The effects are still seen today on the shore line of
Eleanor Island, Alaska where if you dig a hole in the ground oil will seep into the hole. Animals were
found covered in oil and were imminently tended to be cleaned and taken care of until the water was
clean enough for them to live. Many otters and birds were found dead and covered in oil. Clean up
involved power washing rocks on the shore line. Support vessels also came to the aid of the Exxon
ship. Oil was also contained with a containment boom, and DC 6 planes sprayed dispersants in the
water. High winds pushed crude oil and it was found up to Squire Island. This spill was in Bligh Reef
in Alaska s pristine Prince William Sound on March 24, 1989. This reef was originally a

offensive forces (tanks, aircrafts and artillery) on a narrow front. By practicing a breach in the enemy
defenses, these forces allowed the armored divisions to quickly penetrate and maneuver freely behind
enemy lines, disrupting their defenses. The German Air Force prevented the enemy to resupply, to
redeploy its forces efficiently and to send reinforcements to close the breaches that occurred in his
front. The German forces were thus able to encircle the enemy and force him to surrender. In June
1941, the German forces invaded the Soviet Union. The blitzkrieg seemed at first to be a success.
Soviet forces retreated over 900 km to the gates of Moscow, suffering huge losses. However, it was on
the Soviet territory that the blitzkrieg showed its limits. In this context, the amelioration of the allied
forces readiness after the two first years of the war, and the vulnerability of the blitzkrieg to logistics
and qualified manpower, reduced greatly its success after 1941. The adaptation of new defensive
tactics by the allies has greatly contributed to the failure of the blitzkrieg.

Discrimination In The Movie The Help
Within the movie The Help there are a variety of major issues represented, most directly the
discrimination that existed in the 1960s. The movie itself follows the journey of a white, budding
journalist and her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen and Minny, during the Civil Rights
Movement in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi. To start off her career as a journalist she decides to write a
book, titled The Help, recounting the experiences of the black maids in her town to help expose
racism. The movie itself is very critical of the racial discrimination that existed in its time frame but
some say that it silently communicates racist tones throughout the entire movie. This argument is
justified as the movie often found itself highlighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the movie there s a continued feeling of helplessness with the black maids, with how desperate
their situations seem to be. But, that all changes when Skeeter decides to start writing about the
hardships that they have. All of a sudden everything seems to be a little lighter, more hopeful as soon a
Skeeter is implemented into the movie. Although it may be historically accurate at the time that there
weren t many black journalists, the black maids at the very least could ve written their story
themselves and perhaps taken a more forward and progressive role to reveal the discrimination that
they faced. But, in the movie the black maids do nothing until Skeeter arrives. An example of this
happens in the movie where there was no one was willing to talk about their own problems until
Skeeter started asking around. Although this would have been accurate for the time period for the
movie as they would have been scared of the repercussions, it gives a sense of helplessness for the
black community. Some people would ve for sure started to talk and write about ehr own problems
especially at the time period that the movie was taking place with Martin Luther King and his civil
rights march. This was the time period of major change in the U.S.A especially for black communities
since they finally had a voice. Furthermore, once Skeeter finished writing her book it seemed as if
everyone instantly started to read the book and started treated black maids better. Perhaps it time it
would result in events that did happen in the movie, but obviously this wouldn t happen overnight or
even over a week as seen. All of this makes the viewer of The Help feel as if Skeeter was the main
driving force of the movement in her town and she should be the one praised, not the black maids who
had to suffer and risked everything by telling their

William Goldman s The Princess Bride
In the story The Princess Bride we read of action and adventure, and if you have watched the movie
you have a very romantic view of the tale. Before I read the book that was my view, which after
reading the book, I found to be incomplete. Fortunately, I have read the book and my view of this
adventure has changed from a less romantic one to a more realist thought. I believe that what William
Goldman was trying to tell us, in his book version of the story, is that life is made up of reality,
sprinkled with what I would call romanticism of the realist. What I mean by this is that even realists
must have a desire to believe in Twoo wuv. In the end what we find is that even though we have our
romantic notions, life happens and life is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morgenstern. We first find him as a young boy who was not interested in anything, other than
baseball, and wishing that his teacher was actually his mother. So wrapped up in this he even
fantasizes that one day his father would come clean and declare his teacher as being his real mother.
His young character self was not involved in much and his teacher described him as being a late
bloomer even though he had no idea what that meant. We see in this part of the book that his life was
full of dreams, things he hoped for and wished for.
Shortly after this we find him with pneumonia, unable to go to school and confined to his bed. One
day he is surprised to see his dad come into his room with a book and without announcing what he is
doing, begins by reading the title of the first chapter The Bride. This is the point in his life where
everything changed for him. His future career as a writer is credited in this simple act of his father
reading the story to him. He went from only caring about sports and games to not being able to get
enough from books. This particular book he describes as the single best thing that happened to me
(sorry about that, Helen; Helen is my wife, the hot shot child psychiatrist). Here we once again see
realism show through. You can see here that he was drawn to a book with true love, which in his own
life did not exist. I think we see here the reality in our desire to want to be inspired

Why Are The Main Organs Involved In The Immune System
A. The Immune system is the bodies defense mechanism. Through immune responses, the immune
system attacks organisms and substances that can cause diseases. The immune system is made up of
cells, tissues, and organs. The most important cell is the white blood cell. The white blood cells are the
cells that seek and destroy disease causing bacteria.
B. The main organs that are involved in the immune system are the thymus, bone marrow, spleen,
tonsils, and lymph nodes. The immune system works by having the white blood cells stored or
produced in these organs. Since the white blood cells are all over the body, the immune system can
constantly monitor the body for germs. There are also 2 types of white blood cells, the first is
phagocytes which destroy

Meaning Of Mooncake Ceremony
The consumption of food, which literally becomes a part of our body, is saturated with meanings and
symbolisms. 1 It is therefore important for us to find out the special meanings behind the food that we
so take for granted, in order to understand the reasons for eating it, and pass these rituals onto our
future generations.
One of the many rituals celebrated in Hong Kong is Mid Autumn Festival, which is also called
Mooncake festival. As the name indicates, mooncakes play a very important role in this particular time
of the year. Why then is it called Mooncake festival?
Legend has it that it concerns the Han Chinese uprising against the ruling Mongols at the end of the
Yuan dynasty. During this time, the Han Chinese used traditional mooncakes ... Show more content on

Hence, some would never regard our meals as traditional but more contemporary , even if there were
traditional Chinese dishes on the table, as there is always a mix of cuisines to cater to each and every
one of our taste preferences. However, do we not see this phenomenon in mooncakes as well?
In the past, mooncakes would have different fillings, according to the region people lived in.
Traditional fillings were lotus seed and red bean pastes. Due to the modernisation of mooncakes to
keep it on track with the current food trends and attempts to cater to the health concerns of some
people, many varieties of mooncakes have occurred, such as ones made out of ice cream and some of
fruit and vegetables. In some places, even seafood mooncakes can be found.4
After dinner, we decided to bring our mooncakes and fruit down to the park so that we could have
them whilst appreciating the moon. We had lotus seed paste mooncakes that had one egg yolk, my
homemade mooncakes, a red bean paste mooncake with one yolk and some grapefruit, all of which
were round in shape. A lot of the food used in our celebration focused on the symbolisms of a round
shape and of treasuring the completeness of

Summary Of Charlotte Perkins Stetson s The Yellow Wallpaper
In the year 1892, Charlotte Perkins Stetson wrote a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper. During
the time Stetson wrote the story, some women were suffering from depression or extreme cases of
nervousness. These women would see a neurologist or a psychiatrist who would prescribe them with
the rest cure. The rest cure was a regimen of forced bed rest, restricted diet, and a combination of
massage and electrical muscle stimulation in place of exercise. (Harris) Stetson herself suffered from
depression. She received help from the famous neurologist S. Weir Mitchell, the inventor of the rest
cure, who prescribed her with the rest cure to take care of her depression. The Yellow Wallpaper, a
narrative about the rest cure, explains how confinement can lead to insanity through symbolism,
characterization, and imagery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A contributing factor is the narrator s husband. He first tells her not to be around people and also tells
her not to do anything that would wear her out. Something the narrator loves to do is write, but her
husband says she can t because it would tire her. However, what her husband doesn t know is that she
writes in secret when he is not home. This is one of the many issues she has to hide from her husband.
She also has to hide when she is angry with him. The narrator says, But John says if I feel so, I shall
neglect proper self control; so I take pains to control myself before him, at least, and that makes me
very tired. (Stetson 648) Her husband symbolizes the confinement of the narrator s personality. She
can t get angry when she feels like it or write when she wants to, because her husband has a leash on

The Vietnamese victory against the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 brought about dramatic changes to Indochina. These changes took place in the Geneva Conference which shortly happened after the battle of Dien Bien Phu. General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh who were the Vietminh s leader had only one goal and that was to unify Vietnam and declare independence from colonial rule but however their goals were not achieved at the end of the Geneva Conference due to a number of reasons. The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was a humiliating defeat for the French but however this victory was a resounding victory for the Vietminh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Soviets were more concerned about the security situation in Europe while China feared being dragged into another Korea style confrontation against the US in Indochina and therefore pressured the Vietminh to accept the division of Vietnam. The result of the tensions at the conference due to behind the scenes pressures and secret meetings was the Geneva Agreement of 1954. It was a compromise which satisfied nobody. This would soon lead to a second Indochina war due to the involvements of the U.S who sought to spread nationalism and anti communist ideas throughout Vietnam and the Soviet and China who supported the Communist North. The historian Stanley Karnow made a comment that America had a strict desire to not be committed to anything being signed at Geneva because of the fact that US Secretary of State Dulles ordered the US delegation chief, Bedell Smith, to remain aloof and make no concessions to the Communists. Dulles knew, suggests Karnow, that whatever was going to come out of Geneva was going to be unsatisfactory. The Geneva Conference produced no durable solution to the Indochina conflict, only a military truce that awaited a political settlement, which never really happened. So the conference was merely an interlude between two wars or rather, a lull in the same war This comment made by Karnow is true as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Competitive Cycles Of Cognitive Communication The third phase is conflict interaction, which is the parties response to a perceived conflict which is made up of communication, of interactive cycles of messages, responses, and counter responses (Conrad Poole, 1998). Once these cycles commence the outcome is not in the control of one participant, but parties make choices about how they respond based off of clues that they get from the other s communication (Conrad Poole, 1998). The interaction between Allison, Craig, and Penelope shows this cycle of conflict interaction. The first part of this interactive cycle is when Allison first message Craig on Tuesday to ask him for help while explaining that Penelope treating her like a subordinate which is creating an unproductive work environment. Next, Craig responds to the message by trying to set up a meeting the three of them, but Penelope is the only one who can meet and alerts Craig that she wants to talk to him about Allison s erratic performance. Craig and Penelope meet, and discussed how there is tension between Allison and Penelope. Allison s counter response to her interpretation Craig s meeting with Penelope is her Thursday email, about how she felt disturbed, explains a past conflict, and then threatens to consider alternate employment. As shown above the interactive cycles have become trapped in escalating cycles of competitive communication. Through Allison s interpretation of Craig and Penelope s meeting, she has started to turn the productive interaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humor is studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of camaraderie. • 6. Malcolm X Bullet The civil rights era as a result of cultural forces and political awakenings created bold speakers. Many of these orators were audacious in their speeches, however few came close to Malcolm X. Malcolm X carried a fearless attitude presenting speeches that have been etched into American History, one the of the most iconic of these speeches was Ballot or the Bullet . It embodies ideas of self determination coupled with an intense call to action. The Ballot or the Bullet is a great speech because it skillfully straddles the line between inciting violence and inspiring change. The Ballot or the Bullet is capable of leaving a lasting impact due to its inflammatory statements. • 7. Myelin Essay Myelin is a fatty sheath that coats nerve cells. It consists of about 70% lipids. In the central nervous system, it is made of oligodendrocytes. One oligodendrocyte can myelinate many axons. In the peripheral nervous system, myelin is made of a Schwann cell. One Schwann cell can myelinate only one axon. Oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells form myelin by wrapping around the axon. The myelin sheath is a good insulator. It also creates low capacitance. This means that fewer ions are needed to charge and discharge the membrane of the axon. Myelin also clusters ions channels between myelin sheaths. These clusters are called nodes of Ranvier. Myelin allows the action potential of myelinated axons to travel further than unmyelinated axons with the same diameter. Because the myelin sheath is a good insulator, within myelinated segments of the axon, there is a high resistance to ion flow in and out of the axon. As a result, there is little charge leakage within the myelinated segments of the axon. This allows for the action potential to travel longer distances. From an evolutionary perspective, this allowed for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time consuming process of propagating an action potential occurs at the ions channels. Myelinated axons do not have ions channels spanning the entire axon. Instead, they are clustered only at the nodes of Ranvier. So, the time consuming propagation of action potentials is limited to small segments in the axon. This allows the action potential to move quickly. Therefore, a myelinated axon can conduct a faster action potential than an unmelinated axon with the same diameter. From an utterly young age, most Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they reach adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave their parent s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media are assembling a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental and marital submission. Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez. Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day Don Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don Serafin has over Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by rejecting or accepting individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas is just following the tradition of asking the parents. Since her mother is deceased her father is the only option, nonetheless, the diction suggests that rather than Cleofilas asking for permission appears that Cleofilas is being given away. • 18. Being Male or Female Locks Us Into Roles In most cultures, the term gender is associated with social roles and labor tasks and is usually determined by biological sex. To be male or female is a pre constructed identity which locks people into roles and behaviors and penalizes deviation (*). If a person identifies themselves as a man, they are expected to perform the role as the strong, independent and hardworking man. If a person identifies themselves as a woman, they are expected to be beautiful, nurturing, passive and dependent on other people. These identities of male and female creates a strong divide between people and produces a hierarchal society. These ideas of masculinity ultimately portray dominance and power over women which further encourages hegemonic masculinity that is already present in contemporary social structures. This idea of masculinity is highly evident in social structures such as education, workplace, military and various forms of media. Through generating these notions of masculinity, it will continue to place women in subordination. A part of being masculine is possessing dominance through education. Men need to be educated in order to succeed and exert power over women and do so through the intellectual. Many believe that this individual freedom then leads to risk in faith and often times doubt that cannot ever be separated from faith. The Virgin Mary throughout the lyric is described in a great and incredible way that doesn t have nothing to do with how the women were viewed in the Middle Ages. The Virgin Mary was said Moder, full of virtues gracious, again admiring her for all the qualities that she had, and it refers to her as Moder, mother, which show that she received the respect that a mother gets and she gives the protection of a mother ( In Praise of Mary 392). Another part of where the lyric reflects that Mary was given respect and was admired was so fair, so beautiful, so rudy, so bright. D Souza along with other researchers were investigated the use of an artificial chymotrypsin with the binding site of cyclodextrin with the catalytic site of an imidazolyl group, a carboxylic acid and a hydroxyl acid. The synthetic chymotrypsin has a reduced molecular weight and they believed that the real and artificial enzyme had the same catalytic activity. The model enzyme as seen in figure 1 has a molecular weight of 1365 g mol 1 and is made up of 24 serine proteases. The active site is only known through X ray crystallography and because of this knowledge surrounding the mechanism is limited. The crystallography data shows the proposed mechanism involves three main molecules in the active site. These are serine 195, histidine 57 and aspartate 102. They believe the functional groups hold all importance in relation to reaction. The functional groups are a hydroxyl group an imidazolyl group and the carboxylate ion. • 32. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children. Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An den Mond no. 116 starts with no piano introduction, rather the vocalist has the downbeat with the pianists left hand and the piece has started. The two renditions of the An den Mond each hold very individual techniques for conveying the lieder as well as the notes at the same time with an equally relatable tone. An de Mond No. 116 starts off with two measure phrase pattern that continues throughout the whole piece. From the very start the piece visually defines phrase endings as they are marked by a half note. This naturally shows a cadence as it slows down the line and then continues with a change of thought. However, only one out of all eight of the half note phrase endings ends up. The phrases are therefore quick but also give a solemn downwards feel. The lieder captures this as well. The text is very calm and reflective and for the only phrase that ends up it puts emphasis on the words at last (Measure 6). These two words so the accomplishment of a desire that has just been filled. The words also show that there is a sadness that comes with the lieder. • 40. Thomas Paine s Common Sense Thomas Paine s Common Sense, on the surface, is a call for the dissolution of British monarchial hold on American society. Upon closer inspection of his rhetoric, historical references, and his concept of independence, his audience witnesses more than just an incitement to revolution. Paine is redeveloping the American concept of rights and, thus, redefining its roots. By eliminating British ties in this pamphlet, he creates a rights foundation that relies on discourse and national institutions. Common Sense opens with a statement asserting the purpose of government which is to exist in opposition to society s tendency to fall to corruption through the vices of individuals. Whereas society gives into pleasures, government acts as a set of regulations to ensure the well being of all (Paine 74). This government, which comes from the people and serves the people, must fill the role that moral virtue cannot. According to Paine, this is precisely where England s constitution proves to be lacking. The English constitution depends on the moral proclivity of one individual, and this leaves the well being of inhabitants in jeopardy. Paine abhors the concept or belief in moral authority flowing down from and passing down from a king and his progeny (Paine 84). Contesting the established American governmental dependence on the British, Thomas Paine exclaimed that the rights of man cannot be allowed to be dependent upon the mercy of a king, a single man. • 41. Transpiration Lab Report Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum Kimberly Smith Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin September 11, 2017 Biology 156 3T1 Abstract This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm/min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and understand why it happens. Introduction What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor ... The Environmental Effects Of The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill The Exxon Valdez Oil spill in 1989 had ran into Bligh Reef in Prince William Sounds in Alaska; 11 million gallons of crude oil was spilled and eventually covered 1,000 miles of coastline. Many animals were affected and were killed such as sea otters and sea birds. The spill had a detrimental effect on the food chain. Over time the sea water started to convert the oil into an emulsion that looks like mousse. This emulsion is very difficult to remove from the sea water. The oil spill had spread southwest because of harsh winds. It spread to the Alaska Peninsula from Prince William Sound about 750km (470 miles) in trajectory. The clean up efforts came from the U.S. Coast Guard, Exxon, and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. The effects are still seen today on the shore line of Eleanor Island, Alaska where if you dig a hole in the ground oil will seep into the hole. Animals were found covered in oil and were imminently tended to be cleaned and taken care of until the water was clean enough for them to live. Many otters and birds were found dead and covered in oil. Clean up involved power washing rocks on the shore line. Support vessels also came to the aid of the Exxon ship. Oil was also contained with a containment boom, and DC 6 planes sprayed dispersants in the water. High winds pushed crude oil and it was found up to Squire Island. • 43. The First Phase Of The Second World War Throughout the first phase of the Second World War in Europe, Germany sought to avoid a long war. Its strategy was to win a decisive victory over their opponents with a series of short campaigns. Germany quickly took control of most of Europe and was victorious for more than two years with the Blitzkrieg (lightning war). This new military tactics required the concentration of a powerful set of offensive forces (tanks, aircrafts and artillery) on a narrow front. By practicing a breach in the enemy defenses, these forces allowed the armored divisions to quickly penetrate and maneuver freely behind enemy lines, disrupting their defenses. The German Air Force prevented the enemy to resupply, to redeploy its forces efficiently and to send reinforcements to close the breaches that occurred in his front. The German forces were thus able to encircle the enemy and force him to surrender. In June 1941, the German forces invaded the Soviet Union. The blitzkrieg seemed at first to be a success. Soviet forces retreated over 900 km to the gates of Moscow, suffering huge losses. However, it was on the Soviet territory that the blitzkrieg showed its limits. In this context, the amelioration of the allied forces readiness after the two first years of the war, and the vulnerability of the blitzkrieg to logistics and qualified manpower, reduced greatly its success after 1941. The adaptation of new defensive tactics by the allies has greatly contributed to the failure of the blitzkrieg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although it may be historically accurate at the time that there weren t many black journalists, the black maids at the very least could ve written their story themselves and perhaps taken a more forward and progressive role to reveal the discrimination that they faced.
