Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Background
The Report presents a hybrid neural network solution, which compares favorably with other methods
and recognizes a person within a large database of faces. These neural systems typically return a list of
most likely people in the database. Often only one image is available per person. First a database is
created, which contains images of various persons. In the next stage, the available images are trained
and stored in the database. Finally it classifies the authorized person s face, which is used in security
monitoring system. Faces represent complex, multidimensional, meaningful visual stimuli and
developing a computational model for face recognition is difficult. Face has certain distinguishable
landmarks that are the peaks and valleys that sum up the different facial features. There are about 80
peaks and valleys on a human face. The following are a few of the peaks and valleys that are measured
by the software:
*Distance between eyes
*Width of nose
*Depth of eye sockets
*Cheekbones
*Jaw line

Disadvantages Of Unstructured Interview
Interviews are a part of our day to day lives, with interviews being conducted in every other social
interaction. According to Maccoby and Maccoby (as cited in Brinkmann, 2013, p. 2 3) , an interview
is a face to face verbal exchange, in which one person, the interviewer attempts to elicit information or
expression of opinion or belief from another person or persons . However, there is a difference
between interviews conducted in the normal social settings and interviews conducted for qualitative
research purposes (Stuckey, 2013).
According to Klenke (2016), qualitative interviewing provides a way of generating empirical data
about the social world of informants asking them to talk about their lives (p. 125). It is a purposeful
data collection method with a meaning making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And as such unstructured interviews are appropriate for collecting data in narrative research design
(Hennink et al., 2011). One of the primary disadvantages of using the unstructured interview methods
is that, this method is time consuming and produces a lot of data (Alsaawi, 2014). However, this
voluminous data is appropriate in enabling the researcher to understand and get in depth information
on a phenomenon (Bryman, 2016).
Of the various approaches of interviewing, the semi structured interview is the most commonly used
data collecting method in social science research (Brinkman, 2013). It employs both the structured and
unstructured interview methods, meaning that the researcher uses both the open ended and close ended
questions. As such it balances the advantages and disadvantages of both the structured and
unstructured interviewing methods. The semi structured interview can be administered either face to
face, through a questionnaire , via telephone or any other electronic method such as skype (McIntosh

Impaired Cognitive Performance Occurs Within Children With...
Background: Impaired cognitive performance occurs in children with multiple sclerosis (MS). In
adults, cognitive impairment (CI) is seen at the time of first attack suggesting a prodrome of disease
progression prior to first onset of physical disability. Children who develop multiple sclerosis also
have CI at time of diagnosis suggesting that actual disease onset occurs prior to manifestation of
physical symptoms. It has not been reported whether children who go on to develop a clinical
diagnosis of multiple sclerosis are delayed in acquiring early developmental milestones.
Objective: To determine whether children with early onset MS are delayed in attaining early
developmental milestones and whether children with MS diagnosis prior to the age of 11 years are
more likely to need special education services.
Methods: Pediatric onset MS and cases and controls less than 18 years of age from 14 pediatric MS
centers in the United States were studied. A questionnaire on environmental and genetic influences
was completed by family members, capturing information on demographic and developmental history.
Data on time of first walking unaided and acquisition of two word phrases were captured on MS and
control groups. The need for special education services was captured in MS subjects only.
Results: A total of 467 cases and 428 controls were enrolled. Patients with early onset MS prior to age
18 were not delayed in walking or using two word phrases compared to healthy controls.

Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Founding Fathers, George...
Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Founding Fathers, George
Washington. Do these names sound familiar to you? Hopefully they do, because all of these famous
historical figures helped us to create the American government that we know today. As the young
American government was being created, there were many documents that contributed to the ideas
that helped us shape our nation. When the Founding Fathers were developing our government they
looked back to famous writing of European Enlightenment thinkers. Two main documents the
Founding Fathers started relied on were Two Treatises by John Locke and Leviathan by Thomas
Hobbes. When the Founding Fathers were writing the Articles of Confederation and the US
Constitution, they needed starting point to base their government off of. As they were reading these
documents, it became more and more obvious to be a successful independent Country they would
need to create a strong government that would not only control everything but give rights to the people
and let the governed have a big voice in how the government runs. ... Show more content on

To fix this, they decided to split up the power so that no one person or one small group of people had
complete power. Instead, they made branches such as executive, legislative, and judicial and together
these groups help to run our government. Even though each branch has a lot of power, they do not
have control of everything. The Founding Fathers created the system of checks and balances so that
whenever a branch made a decision the other branches had a say in whether it was fair or not to the

Effects Of Dietary Nitrates On Weight Maintenance
SUMMARY OF THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Paper Name:Nutritional Research Methods
Paper no.:151.708
Topic of research: The effect of dietary nitrates on weight maintenance in obese population following
a 10% weight loss
TITLE
The effect of dietary nitrates on weight maintenance in obese population following a 10% weight loss
BACKGROUND
Dietary nitrates are inorganic inert anionic compounds in fruits, vegetables and cured meats. About 80
85% of the nitrate in our diets is derived from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We hypothesize the nitrate to have significant implication on the post weight loss RMR and possibly
cause relapsing of the weight loss.
STUDY DESIGN AND OUTCOMES
A 6 month randomized three way crossover trial consisting of three groups: 20 healthy, 20 obese, and
20 mixed participants (placebo group for nitrate supplementation)is proposed. All groups will be
screened for thyroid function, hepatitis A B and HIV).All participants will be kept on a low nitrate
weight maintenance diet formula till the weight remains constant for 2 weeks (weight change 10 g/d).
RMR is measured using indirect calorimetry. They are then fed a hypocaloric diet(800 kcal/d) until a
10% weight loss is achieved(estimated time 12 weeks).RMR and weight is measured again. The
formula diet is reinstated and 0.1mmol/kg/d inorganic nitrate for a period of 3 weeks is given along
with it to the two groups excluding the placebo group. RMR, plasma and salivary nitrite levels and
weight changes are recorded.
SIGNIFICANCE
The only study on effect of nitrates on RMR was on healthy humans and no study has been done to
study their effect on weight maintenance. Obesity is a serious condition and long term maintenance of
target weight by obese individuals is not very successful(Wing Phelan, 2005). This study aims study
the differences in RMR changes after a nitrate rich diet between obese and healthy subjects and see
the practical implications of a reduced RMR by dietary nitrates consumption on

At Night My Lost Memory Of The Beloved Poem Analysis
Faiz Ahmed Faiz writes: At night my lost memory of you returned / I was like the dying patient who,
for no reason, smiles. Of course, the night has been the time when people become vulnerable of their
thoughts and their painful past experiences. In the mid 1900s, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, delves into these
painful nights, where he reminisces about his beloved and longs for it, usually shown in his poetry.
Consequently, Faiz Ahmed Faiz uses three literary devices in many ways to portray the true subject of
poetry, based on him, which is the loss of the beloved. Specifically, Faiz uses emotional language,
hyperbole, and allegory to illustrate the theme of the loss of the beloved. Certainly, Faiz Ahmed Faiz
uses emotional language in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dark setting and mood work together to further emphasize the pain after losing a love one.
Moreover, he also uses abstract emotional language to create the melancholy mood, reinforcing the
theme of loss and the desire of the beloved. Faiz uses emotional language that is abstract to show
desired emotions and the search of hope. For instance, he writes during the spring nights, fill your
heart to the brim, and your eyes / too, / with longing and desire (551). The abstract emotional language
in this quote, longing and desire work together to construct the hope for his loss of the beloved. In
addition, in this quote, there is an exaggeration of being able to replete the heart with ideas, which is
not possible; because the whim comes from the mind, not the heart. Therefore, this hyperbole adds an
extra effect to amplify the duration of the longing for the loved one to further develop the theme of
loss of the beloved. Hence, while emotional language contributes to the mood to enhance the theme, it
is also the building blocks of hyperbole, an exaggeration of ideas. At the same time, Faiz utilizes
hyperbole in a variety of ways to further portray the loss of the beloved. He uses hyperbole when
describing his emotions that is not only affecting him emotionally, but physically too. Considering, he
has no courage to look at the hurtful memories again, however, a pain in

Memory And Erasure On Willamette s Campus Analysis
Inscribed in the very study of history is memory. Orienting our every action in this realm, whether
consciously or subconsciously, it is our memory that each human clings to. As humans establish
groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated,
solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human
sentimentality, studying collective memory often illuminates the fundamental relationship between
powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Examining sites of memory
and erasure on Willamette s Campus, the LARC grant proposed by Professor Eisenberg, provides an
excellent opportunity to form a case study of this relationship.

Theatre Reflection Paper
Entry One: In order for you to understand my current situation and life, it is imperative you know the
backstory. Though far from glamorous, my past has greatly shaped the woman and leader I am today.
Born to a peasant mother and bear trainer father in Constantinople, my opportunities were limited.
Advancing in social class was not an option in this human jungle and my family s main goal was
survival. Once my father died, it became my older sister s and my responsibility to provide for our
family. Comito travelled through local theater s performing but I lacked the talent to dance or sing so
my roles were only as minor characters. Eventually, I gained popularity from my wit and charisma on
the stage and began performing on my own, though my shows were notoriously daring [and]
immodest. My success in the theater became success as a courtesan as those roles often went hand in
hand. I was highly paid for my supper parties. 3 I did not enjoy this humiliating job, but my lifestyle
was not unique. As a family of women, work was highly limited and often times prostitution was the
only option. Eventually I met Hecebolus and left my work as a courtesan and followed him to Tyre. I
assumed I had escaped my previous life of selling my body and performing on stage when I moved in
with Hecebolus but the liberation was short lived. Following an argument, I was on the street and once
again on my own forced to support myself in the only way I knew how. Alone in a foreign

Did Popular Culture Become Indaganda During World War One
How did popular culture become propaganda during World War One?
Popular culture plays an active role in everyone s life. For instance, everyone has, at least twice in a
lifetime, watched a movie, or listened to a song. The recurring role of cinema, music and dance has
always been relevant, but when did it meet with politics? This essay is aimed at proving that this
relation took place during World War One, the moment in which allies and followers were especially
needed. In the first paragraph, the reader will receive a detailed overview on propaganda and how
important it became during the Great War. Then, the effects on music and dance during the conflict
will be described. Thirdly, minor issues like sports and fashion will be discussed. Next, ... Show more

Mass media became a type of weapon of warfare , the British government even enlisted celebrated
authors to promote the allied cause to the world. As time went by, individual artists, authors and
illustrators started creating to mobilize public opinion behind war efforts.
Don t waste bread! Save two slices every day and defeat the U boat .
This is a quote from a common, well known propaganda poster. It is directly speaking to the viewer,
and is trying to convince him to save bread, which can be used to feed soldiers. This is a way of
making civilians feel special, it makes them believe they can actually do something to help their
country.
World War One was a true transition point for music genres. During the conflict, patriotic odes were of
vital relevance. A good example is the anti german: Bing! Bang! Bing Em on the Rhine . Lyrics
include the sentence: And then we all go swimming in the rhine, we ll hang out clothes in Hidenburg s
old lines , which shows how music was influenced by the desire for the destruction of opponents.
Some other songs depict the everyday lives of soldiers. For example Oh how I hate to get up in the
morning by Irvin Berlin, which is written from an upset soldier s point of view. The change in music
also influenced dance, which became less popular as the war went on. Men were now overseas and
dance floors were

Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the...
To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a
common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel
s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with
an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments
within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses
similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not
forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points
made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is
compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike
Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and
coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but
if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with
someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick
is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty
diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would

Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A...
What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum
total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to
another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is
gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social
and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In
this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third
world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males
and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about
how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these
cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow.
Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender
related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender
disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote
the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences ,
she explains that though there has been some modernity in third

Impact of Media on Politics Essay
Impact of Media on Politics
The role media plays in politics is undeniable. Our soundbite culture with its inherent limited attention
span dictates a McNugget of information. Unfortunately this often leads to misrepresentations being
accepted as fact. A glaring example of this was the Killian documents controversy. In September 2004,
the CBS program 60 Minutes Wednesday aired a report critical of President George W. Bush s service
in the United States National Guard. The four documents included criticisms of Bush s service in the
Guard during the 1970s. These documents were supposedly created by Bush s commander, the late
Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian. It was also reported that the documents were obtained by a CBS

On a lighter note, presidential candidate Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance on The Arsenio Hall
Show during the 1992 Presidential Campaign. He was trailing in the polls at the time so it was a very
savvy attempt to capture the young voter. Mr. Clinton wore dark sunglasses and played Heartbreak
Hotel on his saxophone. In the end, Bill Clinton easily defeated George Bush and Ross Perot with 43
percent of the vote. Some pundits have suggested that this appearance turned the race around.
Easily the most polarizing force in media today is talk radio. In 1987 the FCC repealed the Fairness
Doctrine. This regulation had required that stations provide free air time for responses to any
controversial opinions that were broadcast. Now the opportunity was available for a level of flatly
partisan programming. As referenced by Wikipedia,
Talk radio provided an immediacy and a high degree of emotionalism that seldom is reached on
television or in magazines. Pew researchers found in 2004 that 17% of the public regularly listens to
talk radio. This audience is mostly male, middle aged and conservative. Among those who regularly
listen to talk radio, 41% are Republican and 28% are Democrats. Furthermore, 45% describe
themselves as conservatives, compared with 18% who say they are liberal.
Rush Limbaugh was the pioneer in the 1990s talk radio movement. Rush s unprecedented success

Essay on The Wife of Bath by Geoffery Chaucer
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, or Alison, is a worldly woman. Not only has she traveled the world, she has
experienced the world, in the sexual manner. Alison herself states this at the beginning of her tale,
Were there no books at all on the subject, my own experience gives me a perfect right to talk of the
sorrows of marriage . . . I ve married five husbands . . . . (Chaucer 174). The point of Alison s long
winded prologue is to crush the idea that men have a hierarchy of dominance over women. Chaucer
makes this point, and also the point, through Alison s tale, that if women are given what they want,
then they will be obedient and faithful to their men.
The worldliness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this notion, the Pardoner, another one of Chaucer s characters, asks why he should even wed if his
wife is going to control his body. Alison quickly replies that he should listen to her tale before he
makes judgements about the gift that women have. Now Alison begins her tale.
Alison tells the tale of a knight in King Arthur s Court who rapes a beautiful young maiden out of lust.
The knight is sentenced to be decapitated. However, the queen and other ladies of the court ask Arthur
to give the knight one chance to save himself, and being obedient to the wifely counsel, Arthur agrees.
The knight may live, if within one year he can come back to the court and tell them what women want
most in the world. Alison continues her tale, telling all of the different answers that the knight
receives, such as sex, money, flattery, and even remarriage. Not thinking that any of these answers are
true he continues on. Nearing the end of his journey, the knight spots a group of women dancing in the
woods, but when he gets to where they were they have vanished and all that remains is an ugly old
woman. The old woman ask if she can help and the knight tells of his predicament. The old hag says
that she knows the answer and offers to help only if the knight pledges himself to her. Returning to the
court, the knight gives his answer to the women. The knight replies that what

What does every society that has ever existed hold in common? The answer: surveillance, was, or is, a

Michael Parenti s View On Human Nature And Why The Topic...
1. Discuss Michael Parenti s view on human nature and why the topic is important for our course:
Michael Parenti, author and political scientist, describes human nature as a topic deeply intertwined
with politics. The reason for this is because arguments for and against human nature being unalterable
and the cause of everything destructive are both ideologically motivated and have a political
implication. According to him, to say that human nature is accountable for our current social relations
is no different than what renowned thinkers of the past have asserted for their own social
circumstances. For instance, philosophers of the Classical Era such as Plato and Socrates believed
everyone belonged to their place in the hierarchy. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem that Parenti proposes is that the worst of these qualities are acknowledged as central,
while the best treated as secondary. Parenti extends his argument by saying that these qualities are
seen as basic and are associated with human instinct. For example, some argue that people have the
instinct to earn money and that this is evident in the fact that people earn money. Parenti discards this
as a cycle of post hoc ergo propter hoc, in which the existence of something is weakly explained by
holding the very thing s existence as its reason for existing.
Both arguments on the topic of human instinct, concludes Parenti, fails to acknowledge the complex
social processes that intertwine between innate proclivity and natural behavior. This topic is important
to discuss in a politics class because it is a fundamental argument that can potentially give insight into
how expansion of the capitalist system can produce political activity in the world. Parenti emphasizes
that the global division of labor between the rich and poor and military coercion cannot be simply
labeled as the outcome of the natural human way. For saying this is declaring the inescapability of the
situation and dismissing all possibilities of social justice in the future.

Masked Identity In Watchman s Watchmen
The story of Watchmen brings into question what it means to be a hero. The comic creates a world
where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes them to
be. The heroes of Watchmen are morally questionable and often don t do what most would consider
right. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than just protecting
others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on sex and their own
sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen. It can be used for
either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a character s repressed
sexuality. Rorschach is perhaps the most extreme example of a vigilante who uses his masked identity

licensed they have to pay a fee and pass a state exam. Podiatrists can choose to specialize in various
fields such as pediatrics, wound care, surgery, sports medicine, or diabetic care. Podiatrists can earn
board certification by taking an exam after advanced training and clinical experience. The American
Board of Podiatric Medicine and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery are the two certifying
boards. Podiatrists traditionally work in private offices either alone or with partners, hospitals, and
long term care. The median annual salary for a podiatrist as of 2010 was $118,030 per year (Bureau of
Labor Statistics 2012). The job outlook for podiatrist looks very good in the future, partly due to the
limited number of podiatric medical schools and the amount of older podiatrists retiring.

Epidemiology of Chickenpox
This essay was written to explain the epidemiology of chickenpox and allow the reader to develop a
better understanding of the disease. The author intended for the reader to become informed about the
causes, symptoms, mode of transmission, complications, treatment and mortality and morbidity rates.
Also, the reader will become familiar with the determinants of health and contributing factors to
develop varicella, the relation of the epidemiologic triangle, the role of the community health nurse, as
well as identify a national organization that reduces the impact of the disease on the community.

For patients who are at high risk for complications an antiviral can be prescribed called acyclovir.
Acyclovir can help reduce symptoms in the early stages; twenty four hours after the rash appears
(Gould, 2014). Mortality and morbidity rates are higher for adults and those how are
immunocompromised ( Khandelwal Kumawat, 2008). Centers for Disease Control 2014, has revealed
that the number of chickenpox outbreaks in the United States has decreased significantly since the
vaccination was introduced. If the disease is still acquired after vaccination symptoms are mild
resulting in fewer lesions and low or no fever (CDC, 2014). Centers for Disease Control, 2014 state
that four million people would be infected by chickenpox in the United States alone, 10,600 people
hospitalized and 100 to 150 deaths before the vaccination was initiated.
Determinants of health can be both social and physical factors that can either help avoid or put one at
increased risk for development of a disease such as varicella. Some examples of social determinants of
health can be quality of education, public safety, language barriers, culture, social support and
socioeconomic conditions (Healthy People, 2013). These determinants can negatively impact the
community, for instance if the population of focus is one of poverty level with low rates of quality
education, and high incidence of crime this can make it difficult to obtain

Was The Watermill With The Great Red Roof By Meindert Hobbema
The work of art I chose to write about was The Watermill with the Great Red Roof by Meindert
Hobbema. This painting was made in 1662 1665. I found this piece in Gallery 231, The Anne Fuller
gallery or the European Painting and Sculpture gallery. It is an oil painting on canvas, and the size of
the painting is 32 x 43¼ inches. When I was walking around looking at the different artworks, and
determining which work of art I was going to write about, I stumbled upon The Watermill with the
Great Red Roof. At first glance, it really pulled me in and made me think about what this painting
meant. My thoughts about this painting were that it made me feel calm and relaxed like a Sunday
afternoon. The colors were muted greens, browns, oranges, and yellows, and this painting looked like
it was rural landscape, which had very full and dramatic trees. It rather reminded me of the Disney
movie, The Sleeping Beauty, this painting reminded me of the house Aurora lived in, they both look
similar to me. This art piece pulled me in and made me want to visit the place Meindert Hobbema
painted. The first word that popped in my head looking at this was, beautiful. It was so simple, yet
complex. Moreover, it was like nothing I have ever seen before. An objective description of this
artwork is that this piece is of a rural area, with trees, bushes, and a pond. There is, also, a broken
down house with a vibrant red roof, and a watermill, which is the focus and emphasis of this painting.
The house

Rick Deckard In The Blade Runner
In a postmodern Los Angeles, main character Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is left with an
ethical conundrum. Deckard must decide whether he should follow orders and retire the replicants that
he has been tasked with killing. This sci fi/suspense film brings many questions to the viewers mind
about artificial intelligence in this society. This parable like film addresses a multitude of topics such
as what separates humans from androids and the different tragic situations found in this postmodern,
nihilistic, dystopia (Martin, 106 107). In the Blade Runner: The Final Cut directed by Ridley Scott,
Scott utilizes sound, setting, characterization to convey the morals of artificial intelligence and what
differentiates them from humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film takes place in a post modern Los Angeles. The city is run down, dark, pollution filled, and
looks like something that is post war. Despite these things, it is also modern in the sense that there are
surreal cityscape of pyramid like buildings, floating video billboards,, and flying cars (Martin, 106).
Nola Galagher first argues that much of what influenced the film was the historical concerns of the
1960 s and 1970 s which included the combined effects of nuclear war, ecological destruction, and
overpopulation (Galagher, 169). The setting lays the groundwork for the type of society Deckard is in.

Saving And Planning For The Future
Saving and planning for the future is an important task that every individual should plan for. However,
many times individuals feel overwhelmed and are anxious about how it is possible to survive and plan
for the future. The Bible gives us good insight into how we should plan and manage our finances that
pleases the Lord. 2 Corinthians 9:6 states [w]hoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and
whoever sows generously will also reap generously (ESV). It is possible to save for the future while at
the same time pleasing the Lord. For those who love the Lord and live by his directions knows that
God is a God of plans. Jeremiah tells us For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11, NASV).
Concerning long term finance, there is one story, in particular, the story of Joseph the King of Dreams.
In this story, God gave two prisoners a dream and gave Joseph the ability to interpret them. That
revelation of the dreams came to pass and in time, Pharaoh had a dream. The news came to him of
Joseph s ability to interpret the dream, and he sent for Joseph. The dream was that there would be
seven years of good and plenty, followed by seven years of famine and destitution. Upon this
revelation, Pharaoh made Joseph ruler over the house and land. God gave Joseph a contingency plan.
First, let us talk about what a contingency is. Contingency is any unexpected situation

It is important to have an understanding of Maxim, Will, and Duty to better understand the Categorical
Imperative theory. Maxim is a subjective principle of volition; Kant believed that when people were
doing something, they always followed the general principle. For example, if one person needed to
borrow some money from his friend, and he knows that he was not able to pay it back. However, he
still borrowed that money from his friend. In this time, the general principle is that whenever I need
money, I can borrow it from the others, even though I know that I would not give it back. So that
people would follow this general principle under the same situation if they argue with it. Also, the will
means what makes a good man good is the will to have a decision that is decided by universal moral
law in some way. Besides, the last one is the duty, according to Kant s theory; he believed that self
interest and motivation are different; how people act from the respect of the universal law would make
a good will. In another word, the theory of duty is a person with the capacity to act morally to
universal law. Furthermore, to better illustrate Kant s theory there is no better way than comparing the
differences between that with rule utilitarianism. The principle of utility is the greatest amount of good
for the greatest number. , which is also called consequentialism; the moral behavior

Forensic Evidence And Criminal Investigation
Every criminal investigation starts off the same way: A crime was committed, someone informs the
police, law enforcement shows up, secures the crime scene and they start the investigation. There are
steps taken in every investigation. Police interview witnesses, check surveillance, interrogate suspects;
however, one of the most important steps is the collection and analysis of evidence. According to the
Encyclopedia of Criminology (2014), forensic evidence refers to the verbal statements and physical
items presented to a neutral fact finder in the court of law that assist him or her in rendering a verdict
(Vandenberg, 2014). In simple terms, it is anything offered to a court to demonstrate if the suspect on
trial is guilt or innocent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stage is retrieval, which is the information that the witness recalls in his or her statements.
Any problems at any of these stages can have implications for the validity of the eyewitness testimony
(Vandenberg, 2014).
Scholars have revealed that wrongful convictions are more often based on inaccurate eyewitness
identifications that on other types of evidence (Vandenberg, 2014). Researchers also estimated that
between 50% and 90% of wrongfully convicted individuals who were later exonerated by DNA
evidence were initially found guilty and sentenced on the basis of eyewitness testimony (Vandenberg,
2014). If eyewitness testimony can be unreliable, why then keep using it for convictions? Steps can be
taken to increase the accuracy of eyewitness recollections. For example, there is a guide called
Eyewitness Evidence that was developed by psychology researchers, law enforcement personnel,
prosecutors, and defense attorneys. The guide lays out standardized protocols for retrieving eyewitness
accounts (Vandenberg, 2014). These guidelines help ensure the investigator that the testimony they
obtain will be as accurate and as reliable as possible (Vandenberg, 2014).
Physical evidence refers to any material that is obtained from tangible objects such as fingerprints,
clothing, hairs, fibers, documents, and food items (Vandenberg, 2014). It is only used in about 20% of
all criminal cases (Vandenberg, 2014). The most known physical evidence is DNA. DNA has become

WORLDCOM headquarter in Virginia, USA.
WORLDCOM S ACCOUNTING SCANDAL
WorldCom, established in 1983, whose CEO was Bernard Ebbers, was the second largest long
distance phone company in the US after AT T. It could be seen as a pride of America until it got into
one of the biggest accounting scandals in the American history which finally led to its bankruptcy in
2002. On July 21st, 2012, WorldCom filed for bankruptcy, which was worth 103.9 billion USD and
became the largest filing at its time. Its CEO, Bernard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There would be no effect on current net income as increasing in Equipment means increasing in
depreciation expense. Instead of being spent in the current year only, the cost is spread over many
years. At the moment, you may have the general image of the tactics that WorldCom used to cook
their books.
WorldCom announced $3.8 billion in improperly booked expenses for 2001 and 2002, and an
additional $3.3 billion in accounting errors. Moreover, WorldCom officially filed for bankruptcy when
found an accounting fraud with the amount up to $11 billion. So how did it happen? As having
mentioned, WorldCom s CEO Bernard Ebbers was convicted of being guilty for the stock and
accounting fraud, so it was obvious that the fraud occur from the management level of the company.
WorldCom s major operating expense was called line costs, which means cost paid to lease other
telephone operators network, phone lines and so on. In short, just remember that line costs are its main
operational expense. In 2000, WorldCom was actually not doing a good business, and they somehow
tried to cover the current reality by performing some magic with their accounting stuff, and here is the
thing: WorldCom was managing to cover the truth behind its business, so according to his indictment,
Mr. Scott Sullivan former CFO tried to move around the reserves for

American Attitudes Toward Interracial Marriages
American attitudes toward interracial marriage illustrate an awkward historical moment because after
the interracial marriage law changed, one would think black/white marriages are common but they are
the least. Over the years, interracial marriages has increased by a few percent, mainly from other races
that are not black/white. In America, racism still exist even when laws are changing.
A color blind ideology is simply stating what is different between people like stereotypes but at the
same time believing what is said or do is not racist. It is a new way of racism that people have adopted
today, ticking others to conceive that race/ethnicity is not the issue.

Characteristics Of The Age Of Reason
We all know the ins and outs of today s modern society. Being born in modern times sometimes it can
be hard to imagine life in another time period. Despite this, different time periods are very different
from ours and it is important to recognize other time periods to get a better understanding of where we
have come from. One of these time periods is the Enlightenment the brought about new changes in the
world. There are many characteristics that could represent this time period as well as our modern day.
There are many unique ways to look at times in history and different attributes that could be assigned
to them. The characteristics that best represent the age of Reason are optimism and perseverance. The
characteristics that best represent our modern world are respect and responsibility. The age of reason
was a very important time for humanity. New thoughts and ideas were everywhere and the best minds
were at work. These minds showed how patience and confidence expressed the Enlightenment. John
Locke wrote about what he believed every human being deserves to have. He developed natural rights
which were life, liberty, and property. Locke showed much enthusiasm for what he believed could be
achieved. He showed he was very hopeful about the direction of humanity and was very willing to
pursue this idea. Locke would not have surrendered so easily when faced with challenges such as
people who do not want change. He symbolizes the Enlightenment and all the intelligent

Factors That Might Have Led to Changes in the Price of Gold
Set out what happened to the price of gold in 2008 and 2009. Discuss the factors that might have led
to changes in the price of gold in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, the gold market dropped from the high of
$1,035 to the very low $900 level. This was due to investor meltdown where investors were selling
whatever they could to recoup their losses in other markets. More so, in America, many investors had
paid from only a 10% deposit up to a 50% deposit, on the shares they owned,so when these share
prices dropped more than 10% to 50% investors lost 100% of their capital. There was a low demand
for gold so in the demand and supply of economics law, the price of gold dropped and its quantity
became less. Investor s selling of investments made price plummet even lower, triggering other
selling, causing investors to eventually sell their gold and silver too. As a result, the gold prices
plummeted until the it reached the low of $690. The cheap price that gold reached attracted other
investors and made it climb up gradually but surely to $878 in 2009. After the so called investor
meltdown , street smart investors picked gold up and made the price rise again. (GoldSeek (26
December 2008 ).
Question 1b Giving economic reasons, assess why gold prices experienced rapid and generally
sustained rises in 2010 and 2011. What appears to have happened to the gold price in August 2011 and
why? Demonstrate using a supply and demand diagram what happened to the price of gold in 2010

The Goodnight Inn s Strategy
The GoodNight Inn s Strategy
Abstract:
Anton Cahoon is the manager of the motel GoodNight Inn. During the first two years of operation
occupancy levels have remained far below average level for the motels classification. Therefore, he
wants to make a change and explore opportunities to increase the occupancy levels and profitability.
We will use the following framework to help analyze and evaluate the possible strategies Anton
should follow, ultimately coming to a final marketing strategy and reasons for pursuing that strategy:
Background:
Customers: He currently does not focus on a target market, instead relying on people to find his motel
as they head towards the tourist area.
Company:
From the aspect of the motel itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this analysis we can conclude that the target market in which promotion should be aimed at is
people who have higher incomes and thus able to afford the benefits of requiring additional facilities.
We can also identify that they are longer staying visitors with quite a large percentage booking in
advance; therefore tools such as a website would be necessary to attract them.
Evaluation of Potential Strategies:
Strategy 1: Make minor changes to the current operations. A few minor but potentially beneficial
changes Anton could make to his business in terms of marketing strategy would be the use of more
promotional materials and advertising signs. However this method, without the use of a website, can
be seen as having little impact on attracting a wider customer range. Furthermore minor changes
cannot solve the whole problem, therefore major changes such as the addition of a restaurant or
recreational facilities can be seen as the best option to pursue higher revenue and sales.
However it is not realistic for him to achieve this on his own without an established brand image such
as Holiday Inn behind him. He himself lacks the experience and managerial skills of running a
restaurant. If he did indeed include a restaurant in his hotel it would seem that he would have to
employ a manager to run it, however the costs would outweigh the potential revenue earned. Without
joining a chain, creating a website would be costly and not

Analyzing Epicurus s Letter To Meneoceus
Letter to Meneoceus
Epicurus views are the views of a hedonist; the only thing that is intrinsically good is pleasure. By
pleasure, Epicurus does not mean a sexual pleasure, but the absence of pain in the body and of trouble
in the soul (Epicurus, n.d., p. 3), which means that pleasure is the absence of pain, so removal of pain
equals pleasure. Epicurus believes that living a calm life is better than living a thrilling life. However,
a calm life would be boring and without purpose compared to a thrilling life. A thrilling life does not
necessarily mean creating excitement in everything you do, but living a meaningful life without being
too precarious to avoid pain. Epicurus believes that we should live a calm life to avoid pain and
therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this scenario, the pain associated with the pleasure is worth it for millions of people worldwide, so
how could avoiding the pain create a better life? As Augustine believed, what is good is positive and
therefore it should be something to seek for throughout the life, despite the fact that it might create
painful situations. Epicurus would probably say, that being in love is painful due to the fact that one
would be in pain whenever one is apart from their loved one, but is the pain of missing someone
necessarily a bad thing? When we are painted pleasure, then, and then only, do we feel the need of
pleasure (Epicurus, n.d., p. 2), of course it can be painful to miss someone, but being in love and the
pleasure of having someone love one back could overcome the feeling of pain, because the feeling of
love is so much more pleasurable than painful. And even if one s heart gets broken, many people say
that it was worth it and that they would not do it over if they could. In this scenario, being in love, and
having one s heart broken, makes that person a wiser person, because that person has had a greater
experience compared to the person who has never been in love. If the misfortunate wise person were
better of than the prosperity fool, it would be contradicting to say that one should live a

First Person Narration In The Stranger By Albert Camus
Through thoughts and conversation, one can learn a great deal about the ideals and opinions of a
person. This is also the case in literature, as authors may write in first person to allow the reader to
receive a better idea of who the main character is and what they stand for. Authors can also use such a
strategy to express their personal opinions on a topic in the text through the thoughts and actions of
their main character. Such is the case of Albert Camus and his main character in The Stranger,
Meursault. Through first person narration, Camus is able to use Meursault as a vehicle to bring focus
to religious systems in the 1940s Algerian society depicted in the novel. Two of the ways in which the
reader can see Camus views on religion in his novel is through Meursault s interactions with other
characters and through the personal thoughts of Meursault. One way in which Camus uses first person
narration to bring focus to religious systems and constructs in the 1940s Algerian society presented in
The Stranger is through Meursault s interactions with other characters on the premise of religion.
Through these interactions, Camus is able to present an idea or situation dealing with religion to the

a tool to help in juxtaposing Meursault against the norms in society, especially religious norms in the

reader, Camus is able to focus on a variety of absurdities present in the religious systems and
constructs of Algeria in the 1940s. Such absurdities including the strict observance of the Sabbath by
the Christian faith, the large role emotion plays in religion, and the necessity of one to belong to a

Computer Science And Engineering Research Report Department of Computer Science Engineering Independent Study Research Report On Face Recognition Submitted to Amity University Uttar Pradesh in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Masters of Technology In Computer Science and Engineering By Aqsa Zafar A7600916005 Under the guidance of Ms. Vandana Dubey Sr. Lecturer AMITY UNIVERSITY UTTAR PRADESH NOIDA (U.P.) 2016 1 Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1 Background The Report presents a hybrid neural network solution, which compares favorably with other methods and recognizes a person within a large database of faces. These neural systems typically return a list of most likely people in the database. Often only one image is available per person. First a database is created, which contains images of various persons. In the next stage, the available images are trained and stored in the database. Finally it classifies the authorized person s face, which is used in security monitoring system. Faces represent complex, multidimensional, meaningful visual stimuli and developing a computational model for face recognition is difficult. Face has certain distinguishable landmarks that are the peaks and valleys that sum up the different facial features. There are about 80 peaks and valleys on a human face. The following are a few of the peaks and valleys that are measured by the software: *Distance between eyes *Width of nose *Depth of eye sockets *Cheekbones *Jaw line *Chin

  • 4. Disadvantages Of Unstructured Interview Interviews are a part of our day to day lives, with interviews being conducted in every other social interaction. According to Maccoby and Maccoby (as cited in Brinkmann, 2013, p. 2 3) , an interview is a face to face verbal exchange, in which one person, the interviewer attempts to elicit information or expression of opinion or belief from another person or persons . However, there is a difference between interviews conducted in the normal social settings and interviews conducted for qualitative research purposes (Stuckey, 2013). According to Klenke (2016), qualitative interviewing provides a way of generating empirical data about the social world of informants asking them to talk about their lives (p. 125). It is a purposeful data collection method with a meaning making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And as such unstructured interviews are appropriate for collecting data in narrative research design (Hennink et al., 2011). One of the primary disadvantages of using the unstructured interview methods is that, this method is time consuming and produces a lot of data (Alsaawi, 2014). However, this voluminous data is appropriate in enabling the researcher to understand and get in depth information on a phenomenon (Bryman, 2016). Of the various approaches of interviewing, the semi structured interview is the most commonly used data collecting method in social science research (Brinkman, 2013). It employs both the structured and unstructured interview methods, meaning that the researcher uses both the open ended and close ended questions. As such it balances the advantages and disadvantages of both the structured and unstructured interviewing methods. The semi structured interview can be administered either face to face, through a questionnaire , via telephone or any other electronic method such as skype (McIntosh Morse, ... • 5. Impaired Cognitive Performance Occurs Within Children With... Background: Impaired cognitive performance occurs in children with multiple sclerosis (MS). In adults, cognitive impairment (CI) is seen at the time of first attack suggesting a prodrome of disease progression prior to first onset of physical disability. Children who develop multiple sclerosis also have CI at time of diagnosis suggesting that actual disease onset occurs prior to manifestation of physical symptoms. It has not been reported whether children who go on to develop a clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis are delayed in acquiring early developmental milestones. Objective: To determine whether children with early onset MS are delayed in attaining early developmental milestones and whether children with MS diagnosis prior to the age of 11 years are more likely to need special education services. Methods: Pediatric onset MS and cases and controls less than 18 years of age from 14 pediatric MS centers in the United States were studied. A questionnaire on environmental and genetic influences was completed by family members, capturing information on demographic and developmental history. Data on time of first walking unaided and acquisition of two word phrases were captured on MS and control groups. The need for special education services was captured in MS subjects only. Results: A total of 467 cases and 428 controls were enrolled. Patients with early onset MS prior to age 18 were not delayed in walking or using two word phrases compared to healthy controls. ... • 6. Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Founding Fathers, George... Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Founding Fathers, George Washington. Do these names sound familiar to you? Hopefully they do, because all of these famous historical figures helped us to create the American government that we know today. As the young American government was being created, there were many documents that contributed to the ideas that helped us shape our nation. When the Founding Fathers were developing our government they looked back to famous writing of European Enlightenment thinkers. Two main documents the Founding Fathers started relied on were Two Treatises by John Locke and Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes. When the Founding Fathers were writing the Articles of Confederation and the US Constitution, they needed starting point to base their government off of. As they were reading these documents, it became more and more obvious to be a successful independent Country they would need to create a strong government that would not only control everything but give rights to the people and let the governed have a big voice in how the government runs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To fix this, they decided to split up the power so that no one person or one small group of people had complete power. Instead, they made branches such as executive, legislative, and judicial and together these groups help to run our government. Even though each branch has a lot of power, they do not have control of everything. The Founding Fathers created the system of checks and balances so that whenever a branch made a decision the other branches had a say in whether it was fair or not to the ... We hypothesize the nitrate to have significant implication on the post weight loss RMR and possibly cause relapsing of the weight loss. STUDY DESIGN AND OUTCOMES A 6 month randomized three way crossover trial consisting of three groups: 20 healthy, 20 obese, and 20 mixed participants (placebo group for nitrate supplementation)is proposed. All groups will be screened for thyroid function, hepatitis A B and HIV).All participants will be kept on a low nitrate weight maintenance diet formula till the weight remains constant for 2 weeks (weight change 10 g/d). RMR is measured using indirect calorimetry. They are then fed a hypocaloric diet(800 kcal/d) until a 10% weight loss is achieved(estimated time 12 weeks).RMR and weight is measured again. The formula diet is reinstated and 0.1mmol/kg/d inorganic nitrate for a period of 3 weeks is given along with it to the two groups excluding the placebo group. RMR, plasma and salivary nitrite levels and weight changes are recorded. SIGNIFICANCE The only study on effect of nitrates on RMR was on healthy humans and no study has been done to study their effect on weight maintenance. Obesity is a serious condition and long term maintenance of target weight by obese individuals is not very successful(Wing Phelan, 2005). • 8. At Night My Lost Memory Of The Beloved Poem Analysis Faiz Ahmed Faiz writes: At night my lost memory of you returned / I was like the dying patient who, for no reason, smiles. Of course, the night has been the time when people become vulnerable of their thoughts and their painful past experiences. In the mid 1900s, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, delves into these painful nights, where he reminisces about his beloved and longs for it, usually shown in his poetry. Consequently, Faiz Ahmed Faiz uses three literary devices in many ways to portray the true subject of poetry, based on him, which is the loss of the beloved. Specifically, Faiz uses emotional language, hyperbole, and allegory to illustrate the theme of the loss of the beloved. Certainly, Faiz Ahmed Faiz uses emotional language in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dark setting and mood work together to further emphasize the pain after losing a love one. Moreover, he also uses abstract emotional language to create the melancholy mood, reinforcing the theme of loss and the desire of the beloved. Faiz uses emotional language that is abstract to show desired emotions and the search of hope. For instance, he writes during the spring nights, fill your heart to the brim, and your eyes / too, / with longing and desire (551). The abstract emotional language in this quote, longing and desire work together to construct the hope for his loss of the beloved. In addition, in this quote, there is an exaggeration of being able to replete the heart with ideas, which is not possible; because the whim comes from the mind, not the heart. Therefore, this hyperbole adds an extra effect to amplify the duration of the longing for the loved one to further develop the theme of loss of the beloved. Hence, while emotional language contributes to the mood to enhance the theme, it is also the building blocks of hyperbole, an exaggeration of ideas. At the same time, Faiz utilizes hyperbole in a variety of ways to further portray the loss of the beloved. He uses hyperbole when describing his emotions that is not only affecting him emotionally, but physically too. Considering, he has no courage to look at the hurtful memories again, however, a pain in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Orienting our every action in this realm, whether consciously or subconsciously, it is our memory that each human clings to. As humans establish groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated, solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human sentimentality, studying collective memory often illuminates the fundamental relationship between powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Examining sites of memory and erasure on Willamette s Campus, the LARC grant proposed by Professor Eisenberg, provides an excellent opportunity to form a case study of this relationship. ... • 10. Theatre Reflection Paper Entry One: In order for you to understand my current situation and life, it is imperative you know the backstory. Though far from glamorous, my past has greatly shaped the woman and leader I am today. Born to a peasant mother and bear trainer father in Constantinople, my opportunities were limited. Advancing in social class was not an option in this human jungle and my family s main goal was survival. Once my father died, it became my older sister s and my responsibility to provide for our family. Comito travelled through local theater s performing but I lacked the talent to dance or sing so my roles were only as minor characters. Eventually, I gained popularity from my wit and charisma on the stage and began performing on my own, though my shows were notoriously daring [and] immodest. My success in the theater became success as a courtesan as those roles often went hand in hand. I was highly paid for my supper parties. 3 I did not enjoy this humiliating job, but my lifestyle was not unique. As a family of women, work was highly limited and often times prostitution was the only option. Eventually I met Hecebolus and left my work as a courtesan and followed him to Tyre. I assumed I had escaped my previous life of selling my body and performing on stage when I moved in with Hecebolus but the liberation was short lived. Following an argument, I was on the street and once again on my own forced to support myself in the only way I knew how. Alone in a foreign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a quote from a common, well known propaganda poster. It is directly speaking to the viewer, and is trying to convince him to save bread, which can be used to feed soldiers. This is a way of making civilians feel special, it makes them believe they can actually do something to help their country. World War One was a true transition point for music genres. During the conflict, patriotic odes were of vital relevance. A good example is the anti german: Bing! Bang! Bing Em on the Rhine . Lyrics include the sentence: And then we all go swimming in the rhine, we ll hang out clothes in Hidenburg s old lines , which shows how music was influenced by the desire for the destruction of opponents. Some other songs depict the everyday lives of soldiers. For example Oh how I hate to get up in the morning by Irvin Berlin, which is written from an upset soldier s point of view. Persuasion on seizing the day is a common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow. Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Our soundbite culture with its inherent limited attention span dictates a McNugget of information. Unfortunately this often leads to misrepresentations being accepted as fact. A glaring example of this was the Killian documents controversy. In September 2004, the CBS program 60 Minutes Wednesday aired a report critical of President George W. Bush s service in the United States National Guard. The four documents included criticisms of Bush s service in the Guard during the 1970s. In the end, Bill Clinton easily defeated George Bush and Ross Perot with 43 percent of the vote. Some pundits have suggested that this appearance turned the race around. Easily the most polarizing force in media today is talk radio. In 1987 the FCC repealed the Fairness Doctrine. This regulation had required that stations provide free air time for responses to any controversial opinions that were broadcast. Now the opportunity was available for a level of flatly partisan programming. As referenced by Wikipedia, Talk radio provided an immediacy and a high degree of emotionalism that seldom is reached on television or in magazines. Pew researchers found in 2004 that 17% of the public regularly listens to talk radio. This audience is mostly male, middle aged and conservative. Among those who regularly listen to talk radio, 41% are Republican and 28% are Democrats. Furthermore, 45% describe themselves as conservatives, compared with 18% who say they are liberal. Nearing the end of his journey, the knight spots a group of women dancing in the woods, but when he gets to where they were they have vanished and all that remains is an ugly old woman. Discuss Michael Parenti s view on human nature and why the topic is important for our course: Michael Parenti, author and political scientist, describes human nature as a topic deeply intertwined with politics. The reason for this is because arguments for and against human nature being unalterable and the cause of everything destructive are both ideologically motivated and have a political implication. According to him, to say that human nature is accountable for our current social relations is no different than what renowned thinkers of the past have asserted for their own social circumstances. The problem that Parenti proposes is that the worst of these qualities are acknowledged as central, while the best treated as secondary. Parenti extends his argument by saying that these qualities are seen as basic and are associated with human instinct. For example, some argue that people have the instinct to earn money and that this is evident in the fact that people earn money. Parenti discards this as a cycle of post hoc ergo propter hoc, in which the existence of something is weakly explained by holding the very thing s existence as its reason for existing. Both arguments on the topic of human instinct, concludes Parenti, fails to acknowledge the complex social processes that intertwine between innate proclivity and natural behavior. This topic is important to discuss in a politics class because it is a fundamental argument that can potentially give insight into how expansion of the capitalist system can produce political activity in the world. Parenti emphasizes that the global division of labor between the rich and poor and military coercion cannot be simply labeled as the outcome of the natural human way. For saying this is declaring the inescapability of the situation and dismissing all possibilities of social justice in the future. 3. The comic creates a world where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes them to be. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than just protecting others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on sex and their own sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen. It can be used for either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a character s repressed sexuality. WorldCom announced $3.8 billion in improperly booked expenses for 2001 and 2002, and an additional $3.3 billion in accounting errors. Moreover, WorldCom officially filed for bankruptcy when found an accounting fraud with the amount up to $11 billion. So how did it happen? As having mentioned, WorldCom s CEO Bernard Ebbers was convicted of being guilty for the stock and accounting fraud, so it was obvious that the fraud occur from the management level of the company. WorldCom s major operating expense was called line costs, which means cost paid to lease other telephone operators network, phone lines and so on. In short, just remember that line costs are its main operational expense. In 2000, WorldCom was actually not doing a good business, and they somehow tried to cover the current reality by performing some magic with their accounting stuff, and here is the thing: WorldCom was managing to cover the truth behind its business, so according to his indictment, Mr. Scott Sullivan former CFO tried to move around the reserves for ... • 32. American Attitudes Toward Interracial Marriages American attitudes toward interracial marriage illustrate an awkward historical moment because after the interracial marriage law changed, one would think black/white marriages are common but they are the least. Over the years, interracial marriages has increased by a few percent, mainly from other races that are not black/white. In America, racism still exist even when laws are changing. • 35. Factors That Might Have Led to Changes in the Price of Gold Set out what happened to the price of gold in 2008 and 2009. Discuss the factors that might have led to changes in the price of gold in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, the gold market dropped from the high of $1,035 to the very low $900 level. This was due to investor meltdown where investors were selling whatever they could to recoup their losses in other markets. More so, in America, many investors had paid from only a 10% deposit up to a 50% deposit, on the shares they owned,so when these share prices dropped more than 10% to 50% investors lost 100% of their capital. There was a low demand for gold so in the demand and supply of economics law, the price of gold dropped and its quantity became less. Investor s selling of investments made price plummet even lower, triggering other selling, causing investors to eventually sell their gold and silver too. As a result, the gold prices plummeted until the it reached the low of $690. The cheap price that gold reached attracted other investors and made it climb up gradually but surely to $878 in 2009. After the so called investor meltdown , street smart investors picked gold up and made the price rise again. (GoldSeek (26 December 2008 ). Question 1b Giving economic reasons, assess why gold prices experienced rapid and generally sustained rises in 2010 and 2011. What appears to have happened to the gold price in August 2011 and why? Demonstrate using a supply and demand diagram what happened to the price of gold in 2010 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Goodnight Inn s Strategy The GoodNight Inn s Strategy Abstract: Anton Cahoon is the manager of the motel GoodNight Inn. During the first two years of operation occupancy levels have remained far below average level for the motels classification. Therefore, he wants to make a change and explore opportunities to increase the occupancy levels and profitability. We will use the following framework to help analyze and evaluate the possible strategies Anton should follow, ultimately coming to a final marketing strategy and reasons for pursuing that strategy: Background: Customers: He currently does not focus on a target market, instead relying on people to find his motel as they head towards the tourist area. Company: From the aspect of the motel itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this analysis we can conclude that the target market in which promotion should be aimed at is people who have higher incomes and thus able to afford the benefits of requiring additional facilities. We can also identify that they are longer staying visitors with quite a large percentage booking in advance; therefore tools such as a website would be necessary to attract them. Evaluation of Potential Strategies: Strategy 1: Make minor changes to the current operations. A few minor but potentially beneficial changes Anton could make to his business in terms of marketing strategy would be the use of more promotional materials and advertising signs. However this method, without the use of a website, can be seen as having little impact on attracting a wider customer range. Furthermore minor changes cannot solve the whole problem, therefore major changes such as the addition of a restaurant or recreational facilities can be seen as the best option to pursue higher revenue and sales. However it is not realistic for him to achieve this on his own without an established brand image such as Holiday Inn behind him. He himself lacks the experience and managerial skills of running a restaurant. If he did indeed include a restaurant in his hotel it would seem that he would have to employ a manager to run it, however the costs would outweigh the potential revenue earned. Without joining a chain, creating a website would be costly and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Analyzing Epicurus s Letter To Meneoceus Letter to Meneoceus Epicurus views are the views of a hedonist; the only thing that is intrinsically good is pleasure. By pleasure, Epicurus does not mean a sexual pleasure, but the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul (Epicurus, n.d., p. 3), which means that pleasure is the absence of pain, so removal of pain equals pleasure. Epicurus believes that living a calm life is better than living a thrilling life. However, a calm life would be boring and without purpose compared to a thrilling life. A thrilling life does not necessarily mean creating excitement in everything you do, but living a meaningful life without being too precarious to avoid pain. Epicurus believes that we should live a calm life to avoid pain and therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this scenario, the pain associated with the pleasure is worth it for millions of people worldwide, so how could avoiding the pain create a better life? As Augustine believed, what is good is positive and therefore it should be something to seek for throughout the life, despite the fact that it might create painful situations. Epicurus would probably say, that being in love is painful due to the fact that one would be in pain whenever one is apart from their loved one, but is the pain of missing someone necessarily a bad thing? When we are painted pleasure, then, and then only, do we feel the need of pleasure (Epicurus, n.d., p. 2), of course it can be painful to miss someone, but being in love and the pleasure of having someone love one back could overcome the feeling of pain, because the feeling of love is so much more pleasurable than painful. And even if one s heart gets broken, many people say that it was worth it and that they would not do it over if they could. In this scenario, being in love, and having one s heart broken, makes that person a wiser person, because that person has had a greater experience compared to the person who has never been in love. If the misfortunate wise person were better of than the prosperity fool, it would be contradicting to say that one should live a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. First Person Narration In The Stranger By Albert Camus Through thoughts and conversation, one can learn a great deal about the ideals and opinions of a person. This is also the case in literature, as authors may write in first person to allow the reader to receive a better idea of who the main character is and what they stand for. Authors can also use such a strategy to express their personal opinions on a topic in the text through the thoughts and actions of their main character. Such is the case of Albert Camus and his main character in The Stranger, Meursault. Through first person narration, Camus is able to use Meursault as a vehicle to bring focus to religious systems in the 1940s Algerian society depicted in the novel. Two of the ways in which the reader can see Camus views on religion in his novel is through Meursault s interactions with other characters and through the personal thoughts of Meursault. One way in which Camus uses first person narration to bring focus to religious systems and constructs in the 1940s Algerian society presented in The Stranger is through Meursault s interactions with other characters on the premise of religion. Through these interactions, Camus is able to present an idea or situation dealing with religion to the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this is the purpose of first person narration in Albert Camus The Stranger, Camus also uses it as a tool to help in juxtaposing Meursault against the norms in society, especially religious norms in the novel. Through interactions with characters and through exposure of Meursault s thoughts to the reader, Camus is able to focus on a variety of absurdities present in the religious systems and constructs of Algeria in the 1940s. Such absurdities including the strict observance of the Sabbath by the Christian faith, the large role emotion plays in religion, and the necessity of one to belong to a religious group in order to belong in ...
