The History of Deaf Education Essay
Long before Thomas Gallaudet founded the first permanent school for the deaf in America,
controversy as to the educability and best method of communicating with the deaf have existed. In
fact, in the Biblical Times section of the book The Deaf Community in America Socrates, in
conversation with Hermogenes is quoted saying, Suppose that we have no voice or tongue, and
wanted to indicate objects to one another, should we not, like the deaf and dumb, make signs with the
hands, head and the rest of the body? Hermogenes replied, How could it be otherwise, Socrates?
(M.Nomeland and R.Nomeland 7). However, Aristotle in apparent disagreement with Socrates
believed that hearing contributed the most to intelligence and that thought could be ... Show more

Gallaudet, impressed by the use of signs in addition to the speech and lipreading methods used to
educate French deaf children (Lane 34) at the National Institution for the deaf Mutes in Paris, was
invited to the National Institutions teachers preparation program at no charge (Lane 34). While there,
Gallaudet studied Sicard s methods which allowed, the deaf to comprehend and formulate sentences in
manual French and [studied] the composite meaning of ... separate words (Lane 8). After spending
several months studying at the institute, Clerc accompanied Gallaudet back to America. On the fifty
two day return trip Gallaudet taught Clerc English, and Clerc helped Gallaudet with his signing skills.
On April 15, 1817, seven months after returning from Paris, Gallaudet and Clerc opened Americas

education; somewhat of a golden period in deaf history (Sacks 21) that led to the opening of schools
and the expansion of American Sign Language wherever there was a sufficient density of [deaf]
population (Sacks 23).
Much like the evolution of spoken English, the indigenous and regional sign languages that were
brought to the school by the students influenced the vocabulary and grammar of the French method

Review Questions for Learning Unit 5 Explain the differences between the conflict view and
consensus view.
Compare and contrast the classical school of criminology and the positivist school of criminology.
(cause of crime and its remedy)
Compare and contrast the structural view of crime causation and the ethical view of crime causation
(cause and remedy)
Describe the basic premise of the sociological school of criminology.
How do the genders differ in their moral development according to the Ethics of care?
Why is the law not the highest aspiration of morality?
Read exercise 5.1 (pg 66) and answer the posed questions.
Read exercise 5.6 (pg 68) and answer the posed question. Consensus view holds that societies
consensus is held through behavior that is harmful to deserves to be government prohibition.
However, conflict view is where the behavior is criminalized when it serves the interest of someone
with a position of power. Therefore, consensus is society making the laws, while conflict is the
powerful minority making the law.
Classical School of Criminology is basically the theory of free will. This states that the decisions that
are formulated are of an individual s own will. It also says, that the punishment is a deterring crime, as
long as, it is carried out with no delay and is appropriate or proportion to the crime that was
committed. While classical schools claim that people are pleasure seekers, they still are rational
creatures that act on selfishness, and are deemed as moral creatures. They also concern with
retribution by creating an environment where crime is based fully on free will. Positivist School of
Criminology; on the other hand, takes a different approach to the position as they establish rational
independence. It states that the criminal behavior is caused by social and psychological reasonings.
Positivist School focuses on reforming the offenders by logically identifying and isolation the cause of
the individual s criminal behavior. Though different they compare the same ideas that criminal
behaviors control the consequences of the human nature that inhabits in all humans. They both believe
that crimes are committed by

The Role of the Leader in Evaluating Data to Improve Quality and Safety
Quality and Safety has been recognized as important issues in creating the delivery of effective and
responsive health care. To improve Quality and Safety the leader must analyze data and interpret the
information to develop a system for clinical performance by motivating, supervising, and develop a
problem solving approach to deal with system of medical errors. The purpose of this paper is to

The data shows that ninety four percent of the falls reported were patients prescribed diuretics.
Diuretics have the capacity to cause dehydration by fluid volume depletion, increase the urge to void,
potentially causes dizziness and cause postural hypotension therefore increasing the risk of falls in all
patients but is increased in older women (Lim, 2009). Telemetry unit have more patients with
arrhythmias and other cardiac related problems and are often prescribed diuretic, anticoagulants,
antihypertensive and other cardiac medications, which can increase the risk of falls (Carey, 2001).
Quality Improvement Plan The quality management process involves review of the data that tracks
activities and outcomes. Six sigma is a quality management program that focuses on the patient, the
data collected provides evidence of the results and the emphasis is on the processes used within the
system (Sullivan, 2013). A risk management plan would identify risk for injuries, accidents and
financial losses, it would review the monitoring system, analyze the data and identify ways to
eliminate or reduce the risks. A continuous quality improvement plan for fall prevention needs to be
established because falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal

Reflection Of Experience Reflection Paper
Reflection of Experience
Day 1
In order to test the psychological and physiological benefits of utilizing yoga as a stress management
technique, I decided to start doing hatha yoga on a daily basis. Hatha yoga is an alternative style of
yoga than emphasizes physical exercise and mental health, with the goal of balancing both aspects in
your life. In a study by Luu and Hall (2017) they found that both hatha yoga and mindfulness in
conjunction saw significantly improved results on both mood and executive functioning (Luu Hall,
2017). I then downloaded Yoga Guru an app that includes hatha style yoga onto my smartphone,
which provides videos and acts as a personal trainer to get started. I spent 20 minutes on day 1
following along to the asanas (poses) and breathing directions in the training videos. Ordinarily, I
struggle with my thoughts wandering to the stressors that inflict pain on my life, which further
promotes rumination and negative affect. I tried to actively focus on the asanas and breathing
technique encouraged in the app, however, because I am starting yoga on my own I have no basis to
know if I am doing the technique correctly. The videos were easy to follow and great for a beginner,
however, some of the asanas do require more flexibility than I expected to be required. Additionally, I
struggled with maintaining the asanas for the total duration of time. Consequently, by the end of this
first session I did feel a slight positive increase in my mood. I felt more relaxed, and in control of my
body movements. 20 minutes was enough time for my body to also feel some of the positive effects of
yoga that Pascoe et al. (2017) found while reviewing empirical articles, such as decreased heart rate
and blood pressure.
Day 5 After a few days of consistently working on my Yoga Guru routine for 20 minutes, I felt an
overwhelming increase in energy on day 5. My body has adjusted to the routine of the exercises, and
the lower back pain that I would occasionally experience has dulled and doesn t bother me quite as
much as it did before I began these exercises. Additionally, I m finding that my posture is also
improving slowly from the constant stretching and bending of various asanas. During this session I

George Orwell s 1984
George Orwell author of 1984 recently made it on Amazon s list of 100 books to read before you die
for his widely read novel with thought provoking subjects like: the dangers of totalitarianism, physical
control, psychological manipulation, manipulation of information and history, and technology.
Through the themes in 1984, George Orwell demonstrates that a dystopian society created by
totalitarian rule can infiltrate the minds of its citizens through various mediums. The famous novel
falls into the same dystopian genre as other great works such as Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury,
Brave New World by Aldus Huxley , and Orwell s very own allegorical Animal Farm. However, 1984
is hailed by many for its continuity as a classic work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Party s true power is finally revealed in the Ministry of Love as O Brien questions Winston. It
shares a philosophy similar to The Antichrist, Nietzsche: What is good? Everything that heightens the
feeling of power in man, the will to power, power itself. What is bad? Everything that is born of
weakness. What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome. [The
true human being should seek] not contentedness but more power; not peace but war; not virtue but
fitness....What is more harmful than any vice? Active pity for all the failures and all the weak.
(http://archive.org/) In the concluding chapters, Winston faces the leader of the party O Brien who had
been spying on him since the beginning of his rebellion. O Brien embodies the ideas of power
mentioned in Nietzsche s writing on behalf of the party. It was he who had complete control and
trapped Winston into joining the fake resisting party. Ultimately, Winston was the only person who
valued the truth in history and believed in the defeat of the totalitarian government. Oceania is an
example of a perfect dystopia. The Party managed to completely break down any enemy of the state
including Winston who symbolized the spirit of man; it strove for complete control and at the end
achieved happiness which is defined as the feeling of growing power. Orwell s novel has played a
significant role throughout history. At the time of its authorship in 1949 some countries were
exhibiting horrific

Barn Burning Sarty Analysis
Not only is Barn Burning about the in the hereditary sense of blood ties, but it is also about how a
young boy s conscience dictates his actions. It is through Faulkner s use of stream of consciousness
narration that the reader is aware of Sarty s innermost thoughts and feelings. It seems that Sarty is of
good nature: he has a strong sense of morality, loyalty and humility. Throughout the story, Sarty tries
to imagine that Abner might change his behavior. Maybe he [Abner] will feel it too, thought Sarty as
him and his father walked up to Major de Spain s grand farmhouse, feeling safe and confident,
[m]aybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (pg 518). But, yet
again, his father disappoints Sarty by smearing horse droppings on Major de Spain s fancy white rug.

just that: dreams. Once Sarty realized that there was seemingly no hope for his father, it was much
easier for him to decide to run away Sarty will no longer succumb to the false hero he thought Abner

A Link Between Africa And The Rest Of The World
African civilization, like most other societies have their own set of creation stories which can be seen
in the Christian Bible or folk stories that are told in other parts of the world. One example is the
Asante Tower to Heaven which can be seen as a parallel to the Tower of Babel story told in the book
of Genesis in the Bible. Both involved people on Earth trying to reach God in heaven by building
towers and ultimately failing. Just this example can show a link between Africa and the rest of the
world. These creation myths, from the San, Dogon, and Yoruba people, come from the prominent local
religions from early times in different parts of Africa. These stories and religious rituals lasted until
Christian missionaries came and converted a large portion of the population to Christianity, which
diminished those that adhered to the original religions.
Another topic heavily discussed by those interviewed was the economic status of those in Africa
today. Jamie spoke about her concern for African poverty, I would have to say that I care most about
the high amount of poverty in Africa, I mean our poor over here is their rich . Another interviewee,
Allison expressed a similar sentiment, I care most about the underdevelopment of Africa, there s a lot
of people over there that is less fortunate than we are over here and they have less opportunities over
there . This phenomenon of Africa being perceived as underdeveloped was discussed by Walter
Rodney in How Africa Developed

The Major Themes In Homer s The Odyssey
Consciously or not, we are all on a quest for answers, trying to learn the lessons of life. The famous
psychologist Elisabeth Kubler Ross once stated this and it is true about The Odyssey. It is one of the
many themes found in Homer s Epic poem The Odyssey. Among others, some of the themes I saw in
it were the following: sometimes you must be humbled to succeed, just because something is bigger
than you doesn t mean it s better, and don t let pride overtake you. The one big themes of the latter
part of The Odyssey is sometimes you must be humbled to succeed. This is seen in The Odyssey when
Odysseus dresses as a beggar to hide from the crowd when he notices the crowd trying to string his
bow to marry his wife. Seeing this humbles him making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example seen of this in The Odyssey is when Odysseus fights the Cyclops. The Cyclops is bigger
and stronger than any of his crew, but Odysseus uses his wits to think of the idea to tell the Cyclops
that his name is nohbdy. And then later stab the Cyclops in the eye and so that when the cyclops gets
asked who did it, he said nohbdy did it (9.making all his neighbours think he was crying wolf to them.
This is also seen towards the end of the book when Odysseus is fighting his former followers and even
though they have the strength in numbers to beat him, Odysseus still comes out on top. This can be
seen today by the Oregon Ducks. Over the past couple of seasons they have averaged 12 wins a season
and they haven t had the biggest teams. Since they have a smaller, faster team they use their speed to
tire the defense and give them more scoring opportunities. They run about 78 plays a game which is
Another story like odysseus is the 2007 Super bowl the undefeated New England Patriots faced the
New York Giants. The Patriots had beaten every team they faced that year by flying colors and
everyone was expecting them to do the same to the Giants. It took them awhile to get ahead but at the
end once David Tyree caught the helmet catch the Giants pulled away and scored. The Giants ended

Wuthering Heights
1). I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself...He is a dark
skinned gypsy in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman, that is, as much a gentleman as many a
country squire: rather slovenly, perhaps, yet not looking amiss with his negligence, because he has an
erect and handsome figure and rather morose... I know, by instinct, his reserve springs from an
aversion to showy displays of feeling to manifestations of mutual kindliness. He ll love and hate,
equally under cover, and esteem it a species of impertinence to be loved or hated again. (Brontë 3 6)
~~ This passage from Wuthering Heights describes the mysterious Heathcliff, and his character and
intentions. The passage conveys two different views regarding Mr. Heathcliff, a gypsy and a
gentleman view. The thoughts of the reader just beginning to enter into Wuthering Heights as a novel
and the thoughts of Lockwood trying to find out what the place is like are almost identical. Like
Lockwood, readers of the novel confront all sorts of strange scenes and characters Heathcliff the
strangest of them all. People that have sundry villainous old guns and a couple of horse pistols do give
a gypsy feel. On the other hand Mr. Heathcliff is , in dress and manners a gentleman with a erect and
handsome figure (Brontë 5 6). The question then arises, is Mr. Heathcliff a gentleman figure or a
gypsy figure.

Comparison Of Betty Neuman s Systems Model
Comparison Assignment
Betty Neuman s systems model is a systems theory that emphasizes the importance of the complex
and ongoing interactions among all subsystems of an individual (Hood, 2014, p.128). Neuman s
systems model focuses on decreasing external, internal, and environmental factors that could
adversely affect an individual. Furthermore, Neuman s system model explains that these stressors can
cause a specific response and a unique reaction that consequently wears off the defense lines that
protect the person s inner core and preserve their health and well being (Hood, 2014, p.131). In
contrast, Callista Roy s adaption model is a stress/adaption theory based on the premise that human
response can adapt and change in terms of accommodation (Hood, 2014, p. 133). Roy s adaption
model explains that human response to stimuli is dictated by the individual s adaptive modes, type of
stimuli they were confronted by, level of adaption, and ability to cope (Hood, 2014). Moreover, as
Hood (2014) states, a person s adaption level is determined by its response to a combination of focal,
contextual, and residual stimuli.
While Roy s adaption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that both theorists targeted goals aim to decrease adverse stressors and unwanted
stimuli through interventions that enable a patient to maintain optimal health by means of positive
coping and prompt identification of stressor, their means to attain patient s goal are a somehow
dissimilar. Neuman s system model interventions are targeted towards primary, secondary, or tertiary
prevention (Hood, 2014, p. 168) with the aim to fortify the person s lines of defense. Although, Roy s
adaption model interventions are also aimed to improve coping mechanisms and to reduce stressors,
they are specific to the improving adaption modes and optimizing adaption levels of the individual due
to the combination of stressors such as focal, contextual, and residual (Hood,

Comparing Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility
Jane Austen was a fabulous and accomplished writer, and Emma Thompson is a enjoyable
screenwriter; but when one watches or reads their works, it is natural as humans to ask questions.
Sometimes the questions can be answered by reviewing the sources, whether it be a movie or a book,
with more attention and purpose, but that is not always the case. There can never be complete
certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in Margaret
Dashwood to Sense and Sensibility because she felt like having a third character, and now in our
present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this
individual s existence. Nevertheless, I will attempt to answer two questions accurately in this ... Show

In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed. Willoughby s
entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne falls ill, Mrs.
Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time watching this movie
left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five hundred words was not there. Not
only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from Willoughby; while he still values money over
love, he is penitent of some of the damage his poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even
when there is no need to. The big screen version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of
Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind
would be for the sake of time. While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and
twenty minutes, a miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter
contains Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room
to smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be
shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make Willoughby even
more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly ill, he did even pay a
visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more important that human life. This
move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he appeared the final time on screen,
there was only

Diversity In The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales shows great diversity in the way that characters in multiple tales deal with moral
fiber. A character with moral fiber is one that does the right thing no matter what the consequences
are. In The Pardoner s Tale , the tale describes three men that seek revenge for another man that died,
even though they are drunk. They see an elderly man, and he leads them to a tree that is supposed to
represent Death. Underneath the tree is gold, enough so that the three of them could be rich. But,
while one is at the store, two of the men plot to kill the other so they can split it between two. Also, the
man at the store buys poison to try to kill the other two men so he can have the gold all for himself.
So, greed takes over the group, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men in The Pardoner s Tale represent greed because they kill each other dying for the right to be
the best, and always wanting more. Even though they have so much, they feel the need to have more.
On the other hand, the knight in The Wife of Bath also shows greed when he rapes a woman. This
shows greed because he wants something that he cannot have. Even though his character develops
throughout the tale, he also shows signs of greed when he complains about his poor, ugly, and old
wife, even though she just saved his life. I am your own beloved and your wife, and I am she, indeed,
that saved your life; and certainly I never did you wrong. Then why, this first of nights, so sad a song
(Chaucer 147 148)? The knight at this point is mad because of the outside appearances of his new
wife, but has yet to even get to know her. The knight should have no reason to be mad at his wife
because he barely knows her, and should put aside her looks and social status. The same goes for the
men in The Pardoner s Tale because they should have no reason to have more gold than they already
do. They also should not feel like they should have more gold than the other men because there is no
reason that they deserve it more. They have no right to kill each other for gold, and they also have no
right to be mad at someone because they have something

Role Of Destruction In Macbeth
Macbeth s Destruction Some have experienced a time when they have done the inevitable in retrieving
what they want; however, very few have done appalling actions in achieving their goal. What many do
not understand is these actions could guide anyone to their end, along with anyone or anything who
has influenced in the process. In Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Macbeth , Macbeth s desperate
measures are caused by his influences in gaining what he desires; be that as it may, lead to the
foundation of his destruction. Throughout the play, the whole reason why Macbeth begun this
deranged plan in becoming king in the first place was caused by the three witches. For instance, they
told Macbeth his future by saying, All hail, Macbeth that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once Macbeth was told his future by the witches, he spoke about how stars, hide your fires/ let not
light see my black and deep desires. (I. 4. 50 51). It is indicated that Macbeth has his mind set in
gaining his desires and making them come true. However, it is stated that Macbeth s loss of freedom is
reflected in the diminishing proportion of thought to deed that characterizes his behavior in the course
of the play (Cantor). As Macbeth uses his ambition to his advantage, he slowly loses his freedom
because he is losing his humanity by killing. For instance, he states how it is For mine own good/ All
causes shall give way/ I am in blood stepped in so far that/ should I wade no more. (III. 4. 135 137).
Macbeth s ambition leads him to believe that everything he is doing, is for his own well being; that it
was his right to become king, no matter what the costs. The original Macbeth assumed the kingship,
perhaps reviving his father s claim (Woolf). Both Macbeth s connect because they believe the throne
belongs to them one overthrew Duncan because he was not the rightful ruler; the other assumed he
would be the better king because the witches told him his future. Even though it was Macbeth s
ambition that guided him to do these heinous acts, they were not suitable choices to choose

I Watched A Play About A Puerto Rican Woman

the stage reminded me of what an area would look like after a riot As I sat down, the music before the

this must involve someone that is Spanish or is set in a Spanish area. The lighting during this point

professionally, walked towards the center of the stage and stated that we must turn off our cell phones
and refrain from extending our arms near the stage during the play. Apparently, the reason for this
warning was because there are parts of the play where people walk up and down the extended pieces

Airport Security Essay
After the devastating terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States has increased its
efforts in protecting its airports. At that time, the security scanners already in place in most airports
included baggage x rays, metal detectors, and chemical residue detectors, which help security staff
search out illegal items that a passenger might have (DiLascio). These security scanners unfortunately
failed in their job. Since then, the Transportation Security Administration has been keeping American
airports safe using the latest technology. Airports have now been fitted with high tech body scanners
rather than the archaic metal detectors that only detect metal objects. During the past few years,
individuals have attacked the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are frequently reminded that our enemy is creative and willing to go to great lengths to evade
detection, the director of the TSA, Kosketz said. TSA utilizes the latest intelligence to inform the
deployment of new technology and procedures, like the pat down, in order to stay ahead of evolving
threats ( Mad as Hell ).
After the terrorist attacks the Transportation Security Administration has introduced new and
advanced technology, called Backscatter technology, to airports. Before the Backscatter, commonly
called a full body scanner, was introduced into the equation the metal detector was the main
instrument in finding illegal objects. However, this tool was only useful in finding metal objects. The
Backscatter technology has made the metal detector obsolete because it finds any illegal object or
substance that may be concealed under clothes. One of the most effective additions to airport security
in the United States following the attacks of September 11, 2001, is the full body scanner. Whereas
metal detectors are only useful for locating guns, knives, and metallic weapons, full body scanners
look beneath the clothes, locating weapons and substances that are heavily concealed and not visible
under a metal detector (Auerbach). In order for the
Backscatter technology to work, it has to emit a small dose of radiation. This is where the argument
about heath risks comes in. Backscatter technology

Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on GDP, Poverty and...
With tensions rising in Ukraine, Syria becoming a site of possible military intervention and the Arab
Spring movement prolonging internal conflict, It is important to look at examples from the near past to
understand the reasons behind trends so we might mitigate in a productive and beneficial way. Also it
is imprtant to understand the trends that occur after particular events so we might predict future needs.
This report will look at two developing countries, Serbia and Bosnia and Hercegovina(BIH), who
share a bloody past, one from the position of agresor, one of an occupied country. The aim is to see
how the the conflict and its consequences influenced their GDP, poverty levels and migrations. And
how has the change in those then influenced development work in the respective countries. The report
will further concentrate on the couses and effects of migration in the countries. The raw data was
collected from a number of sources and agregated to produce the tables shown.
Table 1. Table 1. represents Serbian GDP per capita. The graph shows a small decline in 1991,
marking the beginning of the war, probably due to the lack of demand from the former Yugoslav
market. Then from 1992 to 1995 it rises as a result of war industry. Up to 2002(Milosevic s rule) there
has been a serious decline followed by a rebound to 2006. Although influenced by the world economic
crisis, Serbian economics has recorded a steady rise from 2009.

Pro Football Research Paper
Football There s so much to football. It s really fascinating and fun if you know how to play. Football
is a really interesting sport to play and learn about according to these categories: the history of
football, the positions, training, stats, and also famous players. The history of how football started is
so fascinating, because it used to be called the American Professional Football Association or {
APFA}. Then it was renamed as what we know now as the NFL in the 1922. The first game of Pro
Football started in 1892 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Former Yale Star William Pudge Heffelfinger got
paid $500 to play a single game with the Allegheny Athletic Association on November 12. Then in the

Their jobs are hard because they have to know every play like a quarterback, but they make physical
contact virtually every down. They have to follow through with their fakes and pretend to have the

Theoretical Perspectives That Define Social Psychology
Introduction
Social psychology is the study of the nature and causes of human social behavior. There are five main
theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction,
evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand
human social behavior. However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play
different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro
level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the
development of the self.
Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level
and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking
process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology.
Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through
symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach.
The evolutionary theory is a biological approach to sociology that not only deals with physical
evolution, but also focuses on the traits that are passed on from generation to generation to show how
it shapes their social behavior. Lastly reinforcement theory is a micro level approach that focuses on
how social behavior is influenced through the use of

Roland And Lanval Trial
Tomma Chea
A14447620
The Song of Roland and Lanval are two very different texts in perspective of plot and tone; however,
specifically looking into the trials can prove them similar in numerous ways. Ganelon in The Song of
Roland and Lanval in Lanval are both being tried for crimes against their kings. The trials are similar
in that both characters are being accused of treason and are loyal to their king. On the other hand, the
trials are dissimilar due to the reputations and attitudes of each character and the outcomes of the
trials.
In the texts, Ganelon and Lanval are both being accused and put on trial for treason. In The Song of
Roland, King Charlemagne s army goes to war against the pagans. Before the war begins, Roland,

Ganelon was willing to fight to win for his case while Lanval didn t care much if he won or not. As
said before, Ganelon tried to defend himself by claiming he didn t commit treason but only acted on

friend, Pinabel, to defend him, Ganelon states, In you...friend...Now save me from death and from this
accusation (Roland, pg.149, 3786 3787) this expresses Ganelon s will to win because he is requesting
other sources of defense against the accusation. Taking a look at Lanval, it s clear he doesn t want to
win the case because he believes that he lost the love of his life. Before Lanval was even accused he
didn t care if he lived or not since he thought he lost his love, Lanval went with great sorrow; they
could have killed him, for all he cared (Lanval, pg.88, 357 358) this shows he had little will to live
whether he was found guilty of the accusation or not. Even after he was accused, Lanval s attitude
remained, Each day they[knights] went to see him, because they wanted to know whether he was
drinking or eating; they were afraid that he d killed himself (Lanval, pg.89, 411 414) this proves that
Lanval still did not care much for winning the case as he was in a depressive state even after being
accused. In all, Ganelon had a strong desire to win the case while Lanval was so saddened by the
thought of losing his love that he didn t care much about

Overcoming Fear In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
It s the 1930s and racism, classism, sexism is prominent and the Great Depression is happening. In
1930, Harper Lee was 4 years of age. 1930, is the time period that her book, To Kill a Mockingbird,
takes place. Due to growing up in the 1930s, Harper Lee has experienced all of the issues above,
which provided her with material for themes and purposes in her book. Harper Lee uses imagery,
metaphors, and characterization to show the theme of overcoming fear. First, Harper Lee uses imagery
to show the importance of overcoming the fear of a person. For example, on page 319 320 as Scout
links arms with Boo to escort him home she says to herself, He had to stoop a little to accommodate
me, but if Miss Stephanie Crawford was watching from her upstairs window, she would see Arthur
Radley escorting me down the sidewalk, as any gentleman would do. With this quote, Harper Lee is
communicating to the reader through the imagery of Boo, who is walking with her like a gentleman,
that Scout no longer cares about what Miss Stephanie Crawford says about Boo because Harper Lee
has created the mindset that Scout is willfully hoping Miss Stephanie Crawford is peeping through her
window and sees that Boo is being a gentleman not a monster. Harper Lee is communicating to the
reader that people do have opinions and make assumptions about people. And that once someone gets
to know the person that is made out to be a villain, that those assumptions can sometimes be incorrect

Historical Accuracy Of La Amistad
Amistad is a movie depicting the real events concerning the Spanish slave ship, La Amistad, in 1839.
The movie starts off with Cinque, one of the slaves, breaking free from his shackles, and leading a
revolt on the ship. The slaves kill all the crew except for two people, and demand that they be sailed
back to Africa. The Spanish sailors agree, but they deviously sail the ship to America. When the ship
reaches the United States, the slaves are put in jail, and are going to be tried in court for murder of the
ships passengers and sent to Spain. However, the slaves are defended by Roger Baldwin, and later
John Quincy Adams. Practically everyone is against the slaves and the government tries to make it
harder for the slaves to win the case. The case eventually reaches the supreme court, and despite much
controversy and refutation, the supreme court decides that the slaves are to be set free and sailed back
to Africa.
Overall, the major plot points in the film are historically accurate. For example, the first scene in the
movie, which depicts the slaves revolting and taking over the ship, is more accurate than not.
According to Swanson (1998):
On June 30 Cinque incited the slaves to revolt at sea, killing the captain and cook and taking prisoner
their owners, two merchants named Ruiz and Montez. Cinque tried to force Montez to pilot the vessel
to Africa, but Montez reversed the course repeatedly, zigzagging up the North American coast. They
were captured off Montauk Point, Long Island, by the U.S. Coast Guard vessel Washington and were
brought to New London, where the ship, cargo, and rebellious slaves were claimed for salvage money,
while Ruiz and Montez sought to regain possession of them. (para. 3)
This is what is depicted in the film. The slaves take over the ship and kill the captain, and only leaving
the two merchants, Ruiz and Montez. The film also showed the two merchants reassuring the slaves
that they are going back to Africa, but changing the direction of the course several times, ultimately
ending up in the United States. The film shows exactly what happened on the real ship. Another
accurate detail from the movie is the treatment of slaves aboard La Amistad. In the film, the slaves
underwent vile

means exactly as it says. The phrase is basically describing one s gifts from life (or blessings as some
may say), and their success. It s dealing with the common good of people and things happening
around us. The meaning of the phrase is extremely universal to some but for me it s a good thing.

Animal Abuse In The Circus
In a circus somewhere right now, an endangered tiger is leaping through a ring of fire as circus patrons
gasp, and then cheer. Elsewhere, a majestic elephant, the world s largest land mammal, is carefully
balancing on a tiny pedestal and performing for the crowd (Anastasia). Many people have visited the
circus and have enjoyed watching endangered animals parade around the stage, but many do not know
what goes on behind the scenes. Animals are taken forcefully from their homes and families.
Bullhooks, electric prods, ropes and fireplace pokers are used to train the animals in the circus (Godd).
This process is hidden completely from the public and is wholly unmonitored by any federal, state, or

The Physical Values Of Roger Federer And Ray Ban
Like Roger Federer, they are veterans in their designated field. Simply put, both Federer and Ray Ban
are timeless classics. Federer is arguably one of the most attractive men in all of sports. Of course this
highly relates to his great physical shape and facial features, but it is also about his class, humbleness,
and charm. As mentioned in the audit chart, Federer is considered a great philanthropist as he has
helped many people around the world and even has his own foundation. In many ways, he can be
thought of as the perfect gentleman . The perfect complimenting accessory for an attractive gentleman
such as himself is a classic pair of aviator Ray Ban sunglasses.
Of course, attractiveness is only one part of this equation. As mentioned previously, trustworthiness
may be more important for actual purchase persuasiveness. Federer s credibility adds tremendously to
his trustworthiness. He may not have won a grand slam title in 2015 or 2016 but he was still ranked in
the top 3 in the world, and has a great tract record that has proven his ability to still compete and
dominate. When Federer chooses a brand of sunglasses to wear, consumers can be confident in his
choice. Much like Federer, Ray Ban does not have to prove the value of their product. They have both
been around for a long time, and understand what it means to be great.
Another major reason for I would propose this sponsorship is due to Federer apparently not currently
having a sunglasses sponsor. He has some

Comparison between traditional absorption costing system and ABC
Before ABC was introduced in 1980s, the traditional absorption costing system was commonly design
at a time when there was a narrow product range and the use of technology as a factor of business

Comparing absorption costing system with ABC, the primary difference between them is the
approach. Absorption costing is a traditional cost accounting method operating under the simple
system of allocating resources to products or services directly into units, while activity based costing

Bilbo s growing loyalty and friendship with the dwarves. Tolkien used Bilbo s internal thinking to

The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay
Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so that
we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30 years,
technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large
amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds
and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system or
application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool
used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for
innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to
map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans,
2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked
together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name.
These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns
(Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on
many subjects.
Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997).

Daryl Bem Self Perception Theory
In 1967, Daryl Bem, a social psychologist, created a theory that was drawn from the impression
formation and attribution theories and developed the theory of self perception. Self perception is
defined as follows, Self perception theory relies on situational and dispositional attributions similar to
attribution theory (Frymier207). Bem created this theory to help understand one s understanding their
own behavior through the same attributions that a person uses to understand someone else s behavior.
Within self perception theory, the person observes themselves in the same manner in which they
observe others and use that process to acknowledge our own behaviors or ideas of ourselves. Bem
suggest that there are two postulates that are associated with self perception theory. The first is that
individuals get to know themselves through the observation of their own behaviors or situations in
which certain behaviors occur. Second is that external cues have little affect and the individual is in
the same position as an outside observer. An example of this would be the foot in the door effect.
Self perception theory from a psychological stand point is that a person s feelings and attitudes come
from their external behaviors. Similarly, with self perception theory, persuasion involves person acting
and then figuring out their behavior or attitudes (Frymier207).

Essay On Collaborative Law
Ending a relationship is rarely a pleasant experience. Many people envision a divorce as being one of
the worst things they could have to endure. Splitting up property, agreeing to child custody and other
aspects of ending a marriage can be traumatic.
However, there is a simpler way. Collaborative law can settle family legal issues such as divorce,
without the need to go to court. Here is an explanation of what collaboration is and how it can be
better than a traditional divorce.
Collaboration Is Not Mediation

Why Collaborative Law Might Be Right for You
The thought of a divorce hearing can create an unparalleled level of anxiousness. Collaborative law by
its nature is designed to reduce the level of anxiety surrounding a divorce. There are three basic
reasons why using collaboration may be right for your situation.
Informal and Relaxed Setting
One of the most appealing aspects of collaborative law is that it can avoid the necessity of going to a

representation, each can take place in an informal, relaxed environment.
By avoiding the stressful litigation process, collaborative law spare families the inherent pressure of

Comparing Anthem by Ayn Rand to Invictus . Essays
Comparison Essay: Anthem, and Invictus The poem Invictus by William E. Henley, and the novel
Anthem by Ayn Rand, both have common themes that discuss the importance of individuality. Each of
the themes that these works have to offer will be discussed throughout the paragraphs of this essay.
One of the common themes between Rand s novel, and Henley s poem is that, both of the main
characters of these pieces are determined to be nothing less than what they were made to be, which is
unconquerable. A quote from Anthem that supports this theme is, They (the Golden one) looked strait

Within the poem of Invictus , the author seems to have gone through a similar experience that Equality
7 2521 had. A quote from Invictus extricates, Under the bludgeoning of chance my head is bloody, but
unbowed. . From this quote, I suppose that the physical abuse is more of a metaphor, for the emotional
damage that each one of these men went through. Since this poem mostly talks about the authors
ordeals to gain independence, I think that they author is saying how rough, cruel, and discrimination
the world can be, especially when it comes to things as precious as freedom. Our last theme that we
will be discussing between Anthem and Invictus , is that both of the protagonists of these works
believe, and know that they are the ones who control their lives and no one else. To support my theme
with evidence, a quote from Anthem states, I am. I think. I will. My hand...my spirit...my sky of their
needs...my forest...the earth of mine. (p.94). This excerpt from the novel is describing how Equality 7
2521 knows who he is, and what he controls. For so long he had to think of his brothers, not himself.
This shows that he is the master of this own soul, and that nothing can stop him from being his own
person. To further back up my theme, Invicus quotes, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of
my soul. From this quote alone, I can gather that the author of this story is the ruler of his own fate,
and what happens to him. He knows no

Critique Of Marx s The Capitalist
MARX Thesis: The Capitalist observes the resistance of workers against the unfair lengths of the
work day. He comments on the neglectful legislation supposedly providing workers with freedom.
Marx outlines the roles of many groups during the time period of The Factory Act including men;
children; women; lawmakers; and capitalists. Despite being a capitalist, Marx tends to side with those
of the labourers in this section. He finds the controversial idea of the working day tedious as he goes
through the stages of the Factory act in the 1800 s. Key Points: In this section Marx addresses the
dispute between the working class and the capitalists. He identifies the roles of all classes involved,
including men, women, children, lawmakers, and capitalists. The workers are providing their labour in
order to make a living and feel they should be treated justly in doing so. Capitalists stand by the acts
of hard works and maximizing profit. They intend to exploit as much of their workers time as they can
for labour purposes only. The authority of lawmakers was also addressed in this section and their
slight neglect to treat the unfair labour laws. Marx claims the lawmakers turned a blind eye towards
the capitalist s exploitation of the workers (Marx pp. 6) This causes difficulty for the working class
and their journey to justice. Even though new Acts are constantly being made and adjusted, they are

Daja Kisubo Analysis
Daja Kisubo is a Trader. Her people travel to different lands buying and selling items. Very early in
her life she and her family were on a ship that sank, and Daja was the only survivor. She was an
outcast from her people for being only survivor, and from all the others for her heritage, being an
African American girl, and for being an orphan. I chose the song Bulletproof by La Roux to relate to
Daja. The song is originally written about being resilient towards another person hurting you, but in
the case of Daja, I fell like you can also interpret it as not letting the bullies and harsh actions break
you. As we hear in the song: I ll never let you sweep me off my feet. This time, baby, I ll be
bulletproof. (Kate) It shows how you can relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A gang called The Lightnings took him in and through them he became a thief. Every time he got
caught he was given a tattoo of an X on the skin in between the thumb and forefinger. After the third
time he was sentenced to life on the docks, and from there was found and taken to the Winding Circle.
Ending up at the palace is probably the best thing he has ever gotten. There he s met new friends,
learned about his powers with plants, and even got to choose the identity he wanted instead of one
being chosen for him like in his past. He has also rescinded from his thieving ways to having a string
sense of right and wrong, which can be used against his enemies. For Briar I chose the song This is
Real, This is Me by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas. It s a song about finding your true identity and
knowing where you belong in the world. As sung in the chorus: This is real, this is me, I m exactly
where I m supposed to be now. Gonna let the light shine on me. Now I ve found I am (Lovato). It is
pretty self explanatory as to the meaning behind those lyrics. The singer has found out who she really
is and ready to embrace it fully, much like Briar when we read: Briar made a face at her. Where was I?
Good for wrinkles, indigestion, helps to move the bowels. Also helps mothers produce more
breastmilk (Pierce 206). Briar is happy and more than comfortable to reveal, almost brag, about what
he has learned in his studies about plants. He is proud to have his knowledge and power of nature. He
finds comfort in the fact that this is who he is and it all comes easy to him with work and
repetitiveness. Briar is definitely a better person now that he has found where he

The Impact Of Desa Adat Kuta

The positive impact of Hinduism preservation efforts can be seen through the daily activities of

Notes On The Messiah And The Psalms By Richard P. Belcher Jr.
Introduction This forum post presents the Christological Approach to the Psalms and then describes
the five major categories of Psalms relating to Jesus the Messiah: the (1) Royal Psalms, (2)
Typological Prophetic Psalms, (3) Prophetic Typological Psalms, (4) Prophetic Messianic Psalms, and
(5) Eschatological Psalms.
Christological Approach to the Psalms
The Christological Approach to the Psalms is presented and described by Richard P. Belcher Jr. in his
book The Messiah and the Psalms: Preaching Christ from all the Psalms. The Christological Approach
to the Psalms is based on the hermeneutical principle Jesus taught in Luke 24:26 27, 44 47. Jesus,
following his resurrection, was walking with two disciples and explained to them These are My words
which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law
of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled (Luke 24:44). The principle is that all the
Old Testament can be viewed as relating to Jesus not just those passages that directly address Jesus as
Messiah. Given the Christological Approach to the Psalms, the five categories of the Psalms can be
discerned. The information on the five categories of Psalms is summarized from materials presented
by Dr. Gary Yates.
Royal Psalms
A Royal Psalm is about the historical king of that day but these Psalms also point to Jesus the
Messiah. As a result, Royal Psalms are indirectly Messianic. According C. Hassell Bullock

Dna And Biological Instructions For The Development,...
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is an extensive molecule that contains genetic material that makes up
almost all living organisms including plants, animals, and even some viruses. This genetic material or
genetic code in DNA is composed of biological instructions that are responsible for the development,
survival, and reproduction of organisms. Information stored in DNA is made of four chemical bases or
building blocks, adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T) which come together to form
pairs in molecules: Adenine to Thymine, and Cytosine to Guanine. Humans have billions of these base
pairs within their bodies. These pairs separate to form into paired packages that resemble X s called
chromosomes that are made of structure of nucleic acids and protein stored in the nucleus of cells
(National Human Genome Research Institute, 2015). The DNA in cells contains structural proteins
(responsible for the structure, function, and regulation of the body s tissues and organs) and
endoenzyme or intracellular enzymes (that control cytoplmic and nuclear activities) called genes.
Genes operate as a list of instructions for molecules and are in control of the promotion of
reproduction within the cell. All organisms are different from one another and have a unique
combination of traits. However, many organisms share similarities, like when a child (offspring) has
similar features or characteristics, like height or having brown hair like their parents. This is because

The Poems Of John Keats
Although John Keats didn t live a very long life, he still left a pretty good size mark on literature. This
thought only intrigues many writers and readers to wonder what he could have possibly accomplished
had he not died at such a young age and been able to continue writing. He was born into the working
class and very early in his life developed a reputation for fighting, and it was not until he met one of
his close friends that he became interested in poetry. The other two writers in this section, Byron and
Shelley, were both aristocrats. Clearly Keats was not and Aristocrat considering he was born into the
working class. Even though Keats didn t live a very long life he still encountered many ups and downs
in his early years that led him to write some of the poems that he did. The four poems that we read
from John Keats collection would be On First Looking into Chapman s Homer, When I Have Fears
That I May Cease to Be, Ode to a Nightingale, and Ode on a Grecian Urn. One message from each of
those poems would be ambition, death, mortality, and fame. To begin with, one message from the
poem On First Looking into Chapman s Homer would be ambition. John Keats shows his ambition
and eager in this poem by showing how badly he wanted to become a well known poet. He speaks of
how many ancient literatures that he has read and how he thinks he could be remembered as one of the
best poets to ever live. Much have I traveled in the realms of gold, and many goodly states and
kingdom

Global Warming Is Becoming An Ecology Threat
There has been a loss of respect for mother Earth; humans have developed the filthy habit of littering
anywhere possible. For example, one ton of 100% recycled paper save the equivalent of 4,100
kilowatt hours of energy, 7,000 gallons of water, 60 pounds of air emission and three cubic yards of
landfill space . Based on the facts there has been proven that global warming is actually becoming an
Ecology threat. I want to give the reader an insight of how we humans are destroying the planet Earth.
The planet Earth is only getting worse; therefore we humans must practice more sustainable acts. Did
you know that office building use approximately 19 percent of all energy consumed in the United
States, and although the U.S. is only 5 percent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, this will cause the native people a hard time to hunt them. We are facing temperature that
we had never experienced before. Many people don t believe that the ozone layer and atmosphere are
decaying. According to the U.S. Global Change Research Program, the temperature in the U.S. has
increased by 2 degrees in the last 50 years and precipitation has increased by 5%. In the near future we
will be flooded by water and then we will want to save the planet, but eventually it will be too late. I
have acknowledged that not many people are making an effort to be a Good Samaritan. Just looking at
local cities, the lack of recycling effort resident shows impacts drastically around the world. Imagine
these local cities, plus thousands/millions more around the world, refusing on doing an ecological act
of recycling and reusing materials. These acts might not look bad for one person, but if you sum all
the people doing it around the world, it adds up to an enormous number. A lot of those people doing
all those filthy acts often believe that global warming is fake and that if they don t dispose an item
properly, they assume that nothing will happen to the ecosystem. Also, the people around the world
don t see the bigger picture that by having a large home/mansion is slowly killing the environment.
Why? Because the larger the house the more wood is required to build it, and use more quantity of
other products that are not appropriate for the environment.

Violence During The Trojan War
The Trojan War is one of the most important events in Greek Mythology. The Trojan War had so much
violence throughout, that there were three types of violence. Physical violence is the fighting part of
the war. Verbal violence is when the Greeks and Trojans would hurt each other with words not
weapons. Sexual violence was the raping of any women who were from Troy or the Greeks. In this
analysis, you will learn the three types of violence in the Trojan War.
Physical violence was the main type of violence that occurred throughout the grueling Trojan War. In
Mythology it says, For nine years victory wavered, now to this side, now to that. Neither was ever
able to gain any decided advantage. Each and every day, for nine years there was a bloody, gory battle
that took place. A lot of the noblest fighters in Greek Mythology died in this war such as; Achilles,
Ajax, Hector, and Paris. Obviously, Physical violence was what occurred throughout the bloody
Trojan War. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mythology it says Athena sweeping down to the battlefield, persuaded the foolish heart of
Panduras, a Trojan, to break the truce and shoot an arrow at Menelaus. If Athena had not tricked
Panduras into shooting an arrow at Menelaus, Troy might still be standing here to this present day.
Also, when The Judgement of Paris occurred, if Aphrodite had not portrayed her story to Paris well
enough to get the golden apple, most likely the Trojan War would ve never happened. Truly, Verbal
violence can be just as effective as Physical

Why Was Lady Jane Grey
Lady Jane Grey was 16 when she faced the block. Barely having ruled for 9 days she was overthrown
by Queen Mary and forced to resign her title as queen. But what is it that lead her to be overthrown?
Why was she crowned Queen in the first place? As a result because of the countries religious
reformations it is a major point to what lead to Lady Jane s usurpation and her succession battle with
Queen Mary between 1547 1553. Due to that the countries beliefs were split, who would be King
Edward s successor was in everyone s interest especially for the Queen Mary and the Duke of
Northumberland. Because the people of England were on Mary s side it made it harder for who was
the rightful successor which led to a battle for the crown.

She is often seen as a well educated and determined young woman of fierce integrity (Whitlock) and
most importantly she grew up as a strict protestant. Wanting Protestantism to continue and at the same
time to promote his own dynastic line (The British Monarchy Lady Jane Grey ) the Duke of
Northumberland took control of Jane. The Duke of Northumberland was a very powerful man during
that time, he was the regent, president of the Kings council and one of his son s was married to Lady
Jane Grey. A letter was found written by John Banister on May 28th 1553 stating the latest news of the
King s illness. It was then that it was made clear in the letter that the King would not live beyond
autumn. (Bindoff)Knowing this the Duke knew that if the King died he would lose all his power
because Mary was the next in line for the crown. Knowing that Mary was a strict Catholic he began to
persuade Edward to make Mary and Elizabeth illegitimate to the crown and that Lady Jane would be
his successor. The Royal Council agreed and on the 21st June 1553 an act of parliament was signed
(The British Monarchy Mary I )stating that Mary and Elizabeth were illegitimate to the crown and
declared that Jane Grey would be the next in line for the throne. (Cavendish) This was the final step
that had led to Lady Jane becoming the next

THE COMPANIES THAT DROPPED TIGER WOODS
Abstract
This paper explores the truth about when a popular athlete such as Tiger Woods makes a mistake or is
even just faced with accusations of a crime these moral clauses are revisited extensively, because the
end results and affects of such a marketing campaign that includes a celebrity endorsement can be
detrimental to a company s image. This is their way of looking for any and every means to protect
themselves.
Let s not downplay that current market situations indicate that celebrity endorsement advertising

We tend to think that whether one ought to be retained in a particular job position depends on whether
they are qualified for the job, rather than whether they are a generally decent person. Suggesting that
Tiger, Kobe, Magic, or Jordan should not be allowed to pursue their profession in virtue of their
personal indiscretions would amount to a unique kind of discrimination. From the standpoint of
employment qualifications, one s sexual behavior is usually an irrelevant consideration. This brings us
to the second consideration concerning punishment in one s professional life based on actions in one s
personal life. We tend to think that there is an important separation between one s public life and one s
private affairs. When one is a celebrity like Tiger Woods, this line is blurred considerably, and one
might claim that the loss of this distinction is the price one pays for fame. However, this imposes an
arbitrary constraint on a person s individual freedoms. If one has a right to the maintenance of a public
and a private sphere, the fact that a person is famous is not obviously a reason for violating this right.
THE COMPANIES THAT DROPPED TIGER WOODS The second ethical question raised by the
Tiger Woods affair scandal concerns whether it is ethical to break a professional contract based on a
person s actions in their personal life. This is a complicated question, and I will limit the discussion to
one pertinent facet of it. If Tiger

Batman As An Anti Hero
It s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me. Said by Bruce Wayne, explains how he
feels about what he does as Batman. His actions as Batman prove him as an anti hero. Christopher
Nolan portrays Batman as an antihero through isolation of the character, and a dim setting of the
movie. Throughout the movie, Bruce Wayne continues to distance himself from society as Batman.
While attending the hotel party Rachel confronts Bruce about doing more for the city. He tells her he
is now a better person but doesn t allow her to know he is Batman. Even the closest to him he chooses
not to let know what he is doing for the city. Next when in the warehouse with Jim Gordon they team
up together to stop Gotham from being cut off completely.

What Are The Ethical Dilemma In Nursing
In addition to technical support provided to patients, nurses must address the psychosocial challenges
and ethical conflicts associated with caring for critically ill patients and their families. More often
Nurses are left with dilemmas when it comes to decision making and trying to up holds the ethics of
autonomy, who to listen to, the client or the family? Ethically the patient has the right to choose what s
best for self, but is powerlessness when one is brought to hospital in a critical condition.
Ethical dilemmas are the main common challenges faced by nurses, during practice almost on daily
basis. These dilemmas can erupt amongst nurses themselves, or nurses and doctors and the worst
between nurses and patients.
Conflicting obligations arises when the nurse is supposed to make ethical decisions between what to
be done versus what not to be done, making it difficult to choose between the two. There are several
factors that brings about ethical dilemmas such as, increase in consumer demands, shortage of
resources, truth telling, withholding information, withdrawing ... Show more content on

One is to help the bereaved to develop their own ways of coping and the other is to ensure that their

life by pharmacological and mechanical means and the continuous adjustment of these critical care
nurses to this hostile environment, results in psychological disorders such as post traumatic stress

Why Minecraft Is Important In My Life
Minecraft is an educational game for many reasons. It is a game where you learn to build and you
learn about architecture. You can learn from the game because you can build farms, animals, houses,
and make fire. You can even make food! You need to move the joystick to move your character. If you
want things made from diamonds, like armor and weapons, you need to have diamonds and sticks.
Minecraft is also educational because you need to have eye / hand coordination and learn how to make
things fit. You learn about how cities and farms work, because you have to plant crops to feed the
animals, and you can also harvest the crops. Then you can get wheat and make bread. Another reason
why Minecraft is important in my life is that

Examples Of Contradictions In Fuzzy Logic
Contradictions in Fuzzy Logic
Kamp ([qtd. in Sauerland]) argue that it is absurd that p ∧ p has the same truth value as p ∧ ¬p if p is
0.5, and the latter statement cannot have a truth value of 0.5, becauses how could a logical
contradiction be true to any degree? (qtd. in Sauerland 187). Sauerland ([year]) however thinks that
this is not the case: if p contains a vague variable, the statement does not need to be a contradiction to
be intuitive, e.g. What I did was smart and not smart, or Bea is both tall and not tall are statements
which are contradictions, and they still make sense although they are vague (186). I agree that What I
did was smart and not smart makes sense in vagueness and fuzzy logic: this statement might be false,
or true, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same holds for sentences like What I did was smart and not smart (cf. Sauerland ([citation?]), but
sentences like he is tall and not tall are different: in this case you cannot say that the person is tall in
some respects and not tall in other respects (except maybe when you argue that the person turns out to
be a child who is tall compared to other children but not tall compared to adults), but more commonly
you express an average height by this, which is between your personal crisp boundaries of tall and not
tall respectively. Still, both sentences He is nice and not nice and He is tall and not tall are of the form
p ∧ ¬p, and are not considered contradictions with a truth value of 0. But if you consider He is nice
and not nice as the person being nice and not nice in the same respect, then of course the contradiction
would be obviously present, in which case the truth value would indeed be 0 (I do not think that you
could interpret He is tall and not tall in a way such that its truth degree would be 0): it would then be
reasonable to interpret He is nice (in some respects) and not nice (in other respects) as rather p ∧ ¬q
than p ∧ ¬p, because the different contexts in which he is nice and not nice might be seen as concepts
which are not actually related, that is, the situations in

  • 2. The History of Deaf Education Essay Long before Thomas Gallaudet founded the first permanent school for the deaf in America, controversy as to the educability and best method of communicating with the deaf have existed. In fact, in the Biblical Times section of the book The Deaf Community in America Socrates, in conversation with Hermogenes is quoted saying, Suppose that we have no voice or tongue, and wanted to indicate objects to one another, should we not, like the deaf and dumb, make signs with the hands, head and the rest of the body? Hermogenes replied, How could it be otherwise, Socrates? (M.Nomeland and R.Nomeland 7). However, Aristotle in apparent disagreement with Socrates believed that hearing contributed the most to intelligence and that thought could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gallaudet, impressed by the use of signs in addition to the speech and lipreading methods used to educate French deaf children (Lane 34) at the National Institution for the deaf Mutes in Paris, was invited to the National Institutions teachers preparation program at no charge (Lane 34). While there, Gallaudet studied Sicard s methods which allowed, the deaf to comprehend and formulate sentences in manual French and [studied] the composite meaning of ... separate words (Lane 8). After spending several months studying at the institute, Clerc accompanied Gallaudet back to America. On the fifty two day return trip Gallaudet taught Clerc English, and Clerc helped Gallaudet with his signing skills. • 3. Compare And Contrast The Classical Schools Of Crime... Ashley Smith CRJU 1400 LU Review Five Questions Review Questions for Learning Unit 5 Explain the differences between the conflict view and consensus view. Compare and contrast the classical school of criminology and the positivist school of criminology. (cause of crime and its remedy) Compare and contrast the structural view of crime causation and the ethical view of crime causation (cause and remedy) Describe the basic premise of the sociological school of criminology. How do the genders differ in their moral development according to the Ethics of care? Why is the law not the highest aspiration of morality? Read exercise 5.1 (pg 66) and answer the posed questions. Read exercise 5.6 (pg 68) and answer the posed question. Consensus view holds that societies consensus is held through behavior that is harmful to deserves to be government prohibition. However, conflict view is where the behavior is criminalized when it serves the interest of someone with a position of power. Therefore, consensus is society making the laws, while conflict is the powerful minority making the law. Classical School of Criminology is basically the theory of free will. This states that the decisions that are formulated are of an individual s own will. It also says, that the punishment is a deterring crime, as long as, it is carried out with no delay and is appropriate or proportion to the crime that was committed. While classical schools claim that people are pleasure seekers, they still are rational creatures that act on selfishness, and are deemed as moral creatures. They also concern with retribution by creating an environment where crime is based fully on free will. Positivist School of Criminology; on the other hand, takes a different approach to the position as they establish rational independence. It states that the criminal behavior is caused by social and psychological reasonings. Positivist School focuses on reforming the offenders by logically identifying and isolation the cause of the individual s criminal behavior. Though different they compare the same ideas that criminal behaviors control the consequences of the human nature that inhabits in all humans. They both believe that crimes are committed by ... The data shows that ninety four percent of the falls reported were patients prescribed diuretics. Diuretics have the capacity to cause dehydration by fluid volume depletion, increase the urge to void, potentially causes dizziness and cause postural hypotension therefore increasing the risk of falls in all patients but is increased in older women (Lim, 2009). Telemetry unit have more patients with arrhythmias and other cardiac related problems and are often prescribed diuretic, anticoagulants, antihypertensive and other cardiac medications, which can increase the risk of falls (Carey, 2001). Six sigma is a quality management program that focuses on the patient, the data collected provides evidence of the results and the emphasis is on the processes used within the system (Sullivan, 2013). A risk management plan would identify risk for injuries, accidents and financial losses, it would review the monitoring system, analyze the data and identify ways to eliminate or reduce the risks. • 5. Reflection Of Experience Reflection Paper Reflection of Experience Day 1 In order to test the psychological and physiological benefits of utilizing yoga as a stress management technique, I decided to start doing hatha yoga on a daily basis. Hatha yoga is an alternative style of yoga than emphasizes physical exercise and mental health, with the goal of balancing both aspects in your life. In a study by Luu and Hall (2017) they found that both hatha yoga and mindfulness in conjunction saw significantly improved results on both mood and executive functioning (Luu Hall, 2017). I then downloaded Yoga Guru an app that includes hatha style yoga onto my smartphone, which provides videos and acts as a personal trainer to get started. I spent 20 minutes on day 1 following along to the asanas (poses) and breathing directions in the training videos. Ordinarily, I struggle with my thoughts wandering to the stressors that inflict pain on my life, which further promotes rumination and negative affect. I tried to actively focus on the asanas and breathing technique encouraged in the app, however, because I am starting yoga on my own I have no basis to know if I am doing the technique correctly. The videos were easy to follow and great for a beginner, however, some of the asanas do require more flexibility than I expected to be required. Additionally, I struggled with maintaining the asanas for the total duration of time. Consequently, by the end of this first session I did feel a slight positive increase in my mood. I felt more relaxed, and in control of my body movements. 20 minutes was enough time for my body to also feel some of the positive effects of yoga that Pascoe et al. (2017) found while reviewing empirical articles, such as decreased heart rate and blood pressure. Day 5 After a few days of consistently working on my Yoga Guru routine for 20 minutes, I felt an overwhelming increase in energy on day 5. My body has adjusted to the routine of the exercises, and the lower back pain that I would occasionally experience has dulled and doesn t bother me quite as much as it did before I began these exercises. Additionally, I m finding that my posture is also improving slowly from the constant stretching and bending of various asanas. During this session I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Orwell s 1984 George Orwell author of 1984 recently made it on Amazon s list of 100 books to read before you die for his widely read novel with thought provoking subjects like: the dangers of totalitarianism, physical control, psychological manipulation, manipulation of information and history, and technology. Through the themes in 1984, George Orwell demonstrates that a dystopian society created by totalitarian rule can infiltrate the minds of its citizens through various mediums. The famous novel falls into the same dystopian genre as other great works such as Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Brave New World by Aldus Huxley , and Orwell s very own allegorical Animal Farm. The Party s true power is finally revealed in the Ministry of Love as O Brien questions Winston. It shares a philosophy similar to The Antichrist, Nietzsche: What is good? Everything that heightens the feeling of power in man, the will to power, power itself. What is bad? Everything that is born of weakness. What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome. [The true human being should seek] not contentedness but more power; not peace but war; not virtue but fitness....What is more harmful than any vice? Active pity for all the failures and all the weak. (http://archive.org/) In the concluding chapters, Winston faces the leader of the party O Brien who had been spying on him since the beginning of his rebellion. O Brien embodies the ideas of power mentioned in Nietzsche s writing on behalf of the party. It was he who had complete control and trapped Winston into joining the fake resisting party. Ultimately, Winston was the only person who valued the truth in history and believed in the defeat of the totalitarian government. Oceania is an example of a perfect dystopia. The Party managed to completely break down any enemy of the state including Winston who symbolized the spirit of man; it strove for complete control and at the end achieved happiness which is defined as the feeling of growing power. It is through Faulkner s use of stream of consciousness narration that the reader is aware of Sarty s innermost thoughts and feelings. It seems that Sarty is of good nature: he has a strong sense of morality, loyalty and humility. Throughout the story, Sarty tries to imagine that Abner might change his behavior. Maybe he [Abner] will feel it too, thought Sarty as him and his father walked up to Major de Spain s grand farmhouse, feeling safe and confident, [m]aybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (pg 518). However, Sarty s dreams of his father changing were no more than just that: dreams. Once Sarty realized that there was seemingly no hope for his father, it was much easier for him to decide to run away Sarty will no longer succumb to the false hero he thought Abner was. • 9. A Link Between Africa And The Rest Of The World African civilization, like most other societies have their own set of creation stories which can be seen in the Christian Bible or folk stories that are told in other parts of the world. One example is the Asante Tower to Heaven which can be seen as a parallel to the Tower of Babel story told in the book of Genesis in the Bible. Both involved people on Earth trying to reach God in heaven by building towers and ultimately failing. Just this example can show a link between Africa and the rest of the world. These creation myths, from the San, Dogon, and Yoruba people, come from the prominent local religions from early times in different parts of Africa. These stories and religious rituals lasted until Christian missionaries came and converted a large portion of the population to Christianity, which diminished those that adhered to the original religions. Another topic heavily discussed by those interviewed was the economic status of those in Africa today. Jamie spoke about her concern for African poverty, I would have to say that I care most about the high amount of poverty in Africa, I mean our poor over here is their rich . Another interviewee, Allison expressed a similar sentiment, I care most about the underdevelopment of Africa, there s a lot of people over there that is less fortunate than we are over here and they have less opportunities over there . The famous psychologist Elisabeth Kubler Ross once stated this and it is true about The Odyssey. It is one of the many themes found in Homer s Epic poem The Odyssey. Among others, some of the themes I saw in it were the following: sometimes you must be humbled to succeed, just because something is bigger than you doesn t mean it s better, and don t let pride overtake you. The one big themes of the latter part of The Odyssey is sometimes you must be humbled to succeed. This is also seen towards the end of the book when Odysseus is fighting his former followers and even though they have the strength in numbers to beat him, Odysseus still comes out on top. I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself...He is a dark skinned gypsy in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman, that is, as much a gentleman as many a country squire: rather slovenly, perhaps, yet not looking amiss with his negligence, because he has an erect and handsome figure and rather morose... I know, by instinct, his reserve springs from an aversion to showy displays of feeling to manifestations of mutual kindliness. He ll love and hate, equally under cover, and esteem it a species of impertinence to be loved or hated again. (Brontë 3 6) ~~ This passage from Wuthering Heights describes the mysterious Heathcliff, and his character and intentions. The passage conveys two different views regarding Mr. Heathcliff, a gypsy and a gentleman view. The thoughts of the reader just beginning to enter into Wuthering Heights as a novel and the thoughts of Lockwood trying to find out what the place is like are almost identical. Like Lockwood, readers of the novel confront all sorts of strange scenes and characters Heathcliff the strangest of them all. People that have sundry villainous old guns and a couple of horse pistols do give a gypsy feel. Comparison Of Betty Neuman s Systems Model Comparison Assignment Betty Neuman s systems model is a systems theory that emphasizes the importance of the complex and ongoing interactions among all subsystems of an individual (Hood, 2014, p.128). Neuman s systems model focuses on decreasing external, internal, and environmental factors that could adversely affect an individual. Furthermore, Neuman s system model explains that these stressors can cause a specific response and a unique reaction that consequently wears off the defense lines that protect the person s inner core and preserve their health and well being (Hood, 2014, p.131). In contrast, Callista Roy s adaption model is a stress/adaption theory based on the premise that human response can adapt and change in terms of accommodation (Hood, 2014, p. 133). Roy s adaption model explains that human response to stimuli is dictated by the individual s adaptive modes, type of stimuli they were confronted by, level of adaption, and ability to cope (Hood, 2014). Moreover, as Hood (2014) states, a person s adaption level is determined by its response to a combination of focal, contextual, and residual stimuli. While Roy s adaption ... • 13. Comparing Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility Jane Austen was a fabulous and accomplished writer, and Emma Thompson is a enjoyable screenwriter; but when one watches or reads their works, it is natural as humans to ask questions. Sometimes the questions can be answered by reviewing the sources, whether it be a movie or a book, with more attention and purpose, but that is not always the case. There can never be complete certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in Margaret Dashwood to Sense and Sensibility because she felt like having a third character, and now in our present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this individual s existence. In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed. Willoughby s entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne falls ill, Mrs. Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time watching this movie left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five hundred words was not there. Not only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from Willoughby; while he still values money over love, he is penitent of some of the damage his poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even when there is no need to. The big screen version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind would be for the sake of time. While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and twenty minutes, a miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter contains Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room to smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make Willoughby even more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly ill, he did even pay a visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more important that human life. This move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he appeared the final time on screen, there was only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A character with moral fiber is one that does the right thing no matter what the consequences are. In The Pardoner s Tale , the tale describes three men that seek revenge for another man that died, even though they are drunk. They see an elderly man, and he leads them to a tree that is supposed to represent Death. Underneath the tree is gold, enough so that the three of them could be rich. This shows greed because he wants something that he cannot have. Even though his character develops throughout the tale, he also shows signs of greed when he complains about his poor, ugly, and old wife, even though she just saved his life. I am your own beloved and your wife, and I am she, indeed, that saved your life; and certainly I never did you wrong. Then why, this first of nights, so sad a song (Chaucer 147 148)? The knight at this point is mad because of the outside appearances of his new wife, but has yet to even get to know her. The knight should have no reason to be mad at his wife because he barely knows her, and should put aside her looks and social status. The same goes for the men in The Pardoner s Tale because they should have no reason to have more gold than they already do. However, it is stated that Macbeth s loss of freedom is reflected in the diminishing proportion of thought to deed that characterizes his behavior in the course of the play (Cantor). As Macbeth uses his ambition to his advantage, he slowly loses his freedom because he is losing his humanity by killing. For instance, he states how it is For mine own good/ All causes shall give way/ I am in blood stepped in so far that/ should I wade no more. (III. 4. 135 137). The Backscatter technology has made the metal detector obsolete because it finds any illegal object or substance that may be concealed under clothes. One of the most effective additions to airport security in the United States following the attacks of September 11, 2001, is the full body scanner. Whereas metal detectors are only useful for locating guns, knives, and metallic weapons, full body scanners look beneath the clothes, locating weapons and substances that are heavily concealed and not visible under a metal detector (Auerbach). There are five main theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction, evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand human social behavior. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the development of the self. Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology. Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach. In 1930, Harper Lee was 4 years of age. 1930, is the time period that her book, To Kill a Mockingbird, takes place. Due to growing up in the 1930s, Harper Lee has experienced all of the issues above, which provided her with material for themes and purposes in her book. Harper Lee uses imagery, metaphors, and characterization to show the theme of overcoming fear. First, Harper Lee uses imagery to show the importance of overcoming the fear of a person. For example, on page 319 320 as Scout links arms with Boo to escort him home she says to herself, He had to stoop a little to accommodate me, but if Miss Stephanie Crawford was watching from her upstairs window, she would see Arthur Radley escorting me down the sidewalk, as any gentleman would do. With this quote, Harper Lee is communicating to the reader through the imagery of Boo, who is walking with her like a gentleman, that Scout no longer cares about what Miss Stephanie Crawford says about Boo because Harper Lee has created the mindset that Scout is willfully hoping Miss Stephanie Crawford is peeping through her window and sees that Boo is being a gentleman not a monster. • 25. Historical Accuracy Of La Amistad Amistad is a movie depicting the real events concerning the Spanish slave ship, La Amistad, in 1839. The movie starts off with Cinque, one of the slaves, breaking free from his shackles, and leading a revolt on the ship. The slaves kill all the crew except for two people, and demand that they be sailed back to Africa. The Spanish sailors agree, but they deviously sail the ship to America. When the ship reaches the United States, the slaves are put in jail, and are going to be tried in court for murder of the ships passengers and sent to Spain. However, the slaves are defended by Roger Baldwin, and later John Quincy Adams. Practically everyone is against the slaves and the government tries to make it harder for the slaves to win the case. The case eventually reaches the supreme court, and despite much controversy and refutation, the supreme court decides that the slaves are to be set free and sailed back to Africa. Overall, the major plot points in the film are historically accurate. For example, the first scene in the movie, which depicts the slaves revolting and taking over the ship, is more accurate than not. According to Swanson (1998): On June 30 Cinque incited the slaves to revolt at sea, killing the captain and cook and taking prisoner their owners, two merchants named Ruiz and Montez. Cinque tried to force Montez to pilot the vessel to Africa, but Montez reversed the course repeatedly, zigzagging up the North American coast. They were captured off Montauk Point, Long Island, by the U.S. Coast Guard vessel Washington and were brought to New London, where the ship, cargo, and rebellious slaves were claimed for salvage money, while Ruiz and Montez sought to regain possession of them. (para. 3) This is what is depicted in the film. The slaves take over the ship and kill the captain, and only leaving the two merchants, Ruiz and Montez. The film also showed the two merchants reassuring the slaves that they are going back to Africa, but changing the direction of the course several times, ultimately ending up in the United States. The film shows exactly what happened on the real ship. Another accurate detail from the movie is the treatment of slaves aboard La Amistad. In the film, the slaves underwent vile ... During her marriage to John F. Kennedy and she was not only noticed as the first lady, but as a fashion icon as well as her contributions to the arts, and the preservations of historic architecture. Yet her style, elegance, and grace are some of her most memorable characteristics as the first lady and years to come. Now to the younger generation who have never had the chance to see the dazzling wardrobe of Jackie Kennedy in person, they have a different perspective on what she wore. After Bilbo emerges from the Misty Mountains, he has a very uncomfortable thought that he should go back and check on the dwarves to make sure they get away from the goblins. This is a key event in the novel as it shows Bilbo s growing loyalty and friendship with the dwarves. Tolkien used Bilbo s internal thinking to send the message of loyalty and friendship to the reader. The decision to go back to the cave and risk death by the goblins for the betterment of his friends is an act of courage, strength and friendship. Certainly, it could be said that the only reason Bilbo went back to the dwarves was because he needs them and is scared and lost without them. They might argue that Bilbo is not a hero without the support of the dwarves and the help from Gandalf. • 33. The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so that we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30 years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects. Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997). However, the history of GIS is relatively unrecorded, it is a field in which history is little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Daryl Bem Self Perception Theory In 1967, Daryl Bem, a social psychologist, created a theory that was drawn from the impression formation and attribution theories and developed the theory of self perception. Self perception is defined as follows, Self perception theory relies on situational and dispositional attributions similar to attribution theory (Frymier207). Bem created this theory to help understand one s understanding their own behavior through the same attributions that a person uses to understand someone else s behavior. Within self perception theory, the person observes themselves in the same manner in which they observe others and use that process to acknowledge our own behaviors or ideas of ourselves. Bem suggest that there are two postulates that are associated with self perception theory. The first is that individuals get to know themselves through the observation of their own behaviors or situations in which certain behaviors occur. Second is that external cues have little affect and the individual is in the same position as an outside observer. An example of this would be the foot in the door effect. Self perception theory from a psychological stand point is that a person s feelings and attitudes come from their external behaviors. Similarly, with self perception theory, persuasion involves person acting and then figuring out their behavior or attitudes (Frymier207). Splitting up property, agreeing to child custody and other aspects of ending a marriage can be traumatic. However, there is a simpler way. Collaborative law can settle family legal issues such as divorce, without the need to go to court. Here is an explanation of what collaboration is and how it can be better than a traditional divorce. Collaboration Is Not Mediation Frequently, collaboration and mediation are thought to mean the same thing in divorce. They are not. Henley, and the novel Anthem by Ayn Rand, both have common themes that discuss the importance of individuality. Each of the themes that these works have to offer will be discussed throughout the paragraphs of this essay. One of the common themes between Rand s novel, and Henley s poem is that, both of the main characters of these pieces are determined to be nothing less than what they were made to be, which is unconquerable. A quote from Anthem that supports this theme is, They (the Golden one) looked strait into our (Equality 7 2521 s) eyes and they held our head high and they answered: the unconquered. (p.56). A quote from Invictus extricates, Under the bludgeoning of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. . From this quote, I suppose that the physical abuse is more of a metaphor, for the emotional damage that each one of these men went through. Since this poem mostly talks about the authors ordeals to gain independence, I think that they author is saying how rough, cruel, and discrimination the world can be, especially when it comes to things as precious as freedom. Our last theme that we will be discussing between Anthem and Invictus , is that both of the protagonists of these works believe, and know that they are the ones who control their lives and no one else. To support my theme with evidence, a quote from Anthem states, I am. I think. I will. My hand...my spirit...my sky of their needs...my forest...the earth of mine. (p.94). This excerpt from the novel is describing how Equality 7 2521 knows who he is, and what he controls. For so long he had to think of his brothers, not himself. This shows that he is the master of this own soul, and that nothing can stop him from being his own person. To further back up my theme, Invicus quotes, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. He comments on the neglectful legislation supposedly providing workers with freedom. Marx outlines the roles of many groups during the time period of The Factory Act including men; children; women; lawmakers; and capitalists. Despite being a capitalist, Marx tends to side with those of the labourers in this section. He finds the controversial idea of the working day tedious as he goes through the stages of the Factory act in the 1800 s. Key Points: In this section Marx addresses the dispute between the working class and the capitalists. He identifies the roles of all classes involved, including men, women, children, lawmakers, and capitalists. The workers are providing their labour in order to make a living and feel they should be treated justly in doing so. Capitalists stand by the acts of hard works and maximizing profit. They intend to exploit as much of their workers time as they can for labour purposes only. The authority of lawmakers was also addressed in this section and their slight neglect to treat the unfair labour laws. Marx claims the lawmakers turned a blind eye towards the capitalist s exploitation of the workers (Marx pp. 6) This causes difficulty for the working class and their journey to justice. Even though new Acts are constantly being made and adjusted, they are exploitable and not much help to the working class. Marx mentions children in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Notes On The Messiah And The Psalms By Richard P. Belcher Jr. Introduction This forum post presents the Christological Approach to the Psalms and then describes the five major categories of Psalms relating to Jesus the Messiah: the (1) Royal Psalms, (2) Typological Prophetic Psalms, (3) Prophetic Typological Psalms, (4) Prophetic Messianic Psalms, and (5) Eschatological Psalms. Christological Approach to the Psalms The Christological Approach to the Psalms is presented and described by Richard P. Belcher Jr. in his book The Messiah and the Psalms: Preaching Christ from all the Psalms. The Christological Approach to the Psalms is based on the hermeneutical principle Jesus taught in Luke 24:26 27, 44 47. Jesus, following his resurrection, was walking with two disciples and explained to them These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled (Luke 24:44). The principle is that all the Old Testament can be viewed as relating to Jesus not just those passages that directly address Jesus as Messiah. Given the Christological Approach to the Psalms, the five categories of the Psalms can be discerned. The information on the five categories of Psalms is summarized from materials presented by Dr. Gary Yates. • 42. Dna And Biological Instructions For The Development,... Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is an extensive molecule that contains genetic material that makes up almost all living organisms including plants, animals, and even some viruses. This genetic material or genetic code in DNA is composed of biological instructions that are responsible for the development, survival, and reproduction of organisms. Information stored in DNA is made of four chemical bases or building blocks, adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T) which come together to form pairs in molecules: Adenine to Thymine, and Cytosine to Guanine. Humans have billions of these base pairs within their bodies. These pairs separate to form into paired packages that resemble X s called chromosomes that are made of structure of nucleic acids and protein stored in the nucleus of cells (National Human Genome Research Institute, 2015). The DNA in cells contains structural proteins (responsible for the structure, function, and regulation of the body s tissues and organs) and endoenzyme or intracellular enzymes (that control cytoplmic and nuclear activities) called genes. Genes operate as a list of instructions for molecules and are in control of the promotion of reproduction within the cell. All organisms are different from one another and have a unique combination of traits. However, many organisms share similarities, like when a child (offspring) has similar features or characteristics, like height or having brown hair like their parents. This is because hereditary ... From the standpoint of employment qualifications, one s sexual behavior is usually an irrelevant consideration. (qtd. in Sauerland 187). Sauerland ([year]) however thinks that this is not the case: if p contains a vague variable, the statement does not need to be a contradiction to be intuitive, e.g. What I did was smart and not smart, or Bea is both tall and not tall are statements which are contradictions, and they still make sense although they are vague (186). The same holds for sentences like What I did was smart and not smart (cf. Still, both sentences He is nice and not nice and He is tall and not tall are of the form p ∧ ¬p, and are not considered contradictions with a truth value of 0. But if you consider He is nice and not nice as the person being nice and not nice in the same respect, then of course the contradiction would be obviously present, in which case the truth value would indeed be 0 (I do not think that you could interpret He is tall and not tall in a way such that its truth degree would be 0): it would then be reasonable to interpret He is nice (in some respects) and not nice (in other respects) as rather p ∧ ¬q than p ∧ ¬p, because the different contexts in which he is nice and not nice might be seen as concepts which are not actually related, that is, the situations in ...
