Introduction to Forensic Investigations
Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877 1966) was a French
scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond
that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it
touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923).
This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a
crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was
committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would
directly link back to the offender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when they get packed away in boxes they could chip on the handle. Everything can affect an
objects uniquness. If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it
open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we
will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By
comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the
screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said
suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in
Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe
that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a
pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of
individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to
prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of
that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove
this test to be false. Paul Leland Kirk believed that individualisation was a key idea in Forensic
Investigations and stated that

The Denver Basin Aquifer Framework
Denver Basin Aquifer
The Denver Basin aquifer framework is a noteworthy wellspring of water for South Metro Denver.
The system extends from Colorado Springs in the south to Greeley in the north, from the foothills
close to Golden in the west, toward the eastern fields close to Limon, is a surface locale of around
6,700 square miles. It joins four aquifers: the Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie Fox Hills.
Each aquifer has different water quality, profundities, and water availability (CFWE, 2002).
Describe the source of the groundwater, that is, where is the rainfall and snowmelt that feeds the
aquifer coming from, and what are the best estimates of the travel time from the source to the point of
withdrawal.
The Denver Basin has a semi arid atmosphere in which potential yearly evaporation is around five
times greater than yearly precipitation. Most of the precipitation that falls on the land surface either
runs off in streams, is evaporated from the surface of the soil, or is consumed by vegetation. Although
this may be the case, a little part of the precipitation more often than not diffuses downwards and
recharges the groundwater system. In the Denver Basin, a lot of the recharge happens in the highland
areas between stream channels in the higher southern part of the basin. Precipitation is more
prominent here, and the porous soils derived from the Dawson Arkose allow deep permeation.
Recharge here can happen on a local and a regional scale. Locally, water moves

Devil s Knot Essay
On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis Arkansas.
The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn their focus on
Satanism. Unfortunately, three teenage boys became the prime suspects: Damien Echols, Jason
Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Because they wore black and listened to hard rock music, they were
outcasts. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage boys, the community
lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. All the while, there is more than just circumstantial evidence
that points to one of the victims stepfather, John Mark Byers. He had the means, motive, and
opportunity to commit this heinous crime.
It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they
were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation that
the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed. Christopher
was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence implies to two things:
first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second, Christopher had possibly been
abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel). This would lead one to believe that
Chris was the target.
The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing and
recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as well. Even
though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead with the arrests. It is
rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced confession given by Jessie
is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police and brings the credibility of the
department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers household belonging to John Mark
Byers. Forensics stated that the type of blade on the knife was the same type used to cut and mutilate
the three young boys; yet the blood found on the knife was never analyzed. When asked about the
knife, Byers stated

Oresteia Suffering Into The Truth Analysis
Oresteia: Suffering Into the Truth
Oresteia is a script whose story goes on by recalling Orestes lost memories. The main idea which is
prevalent throughout this story is about finding the truth hidden in the acts of revenge, lies, and fates
which are intricately intertwined. However, as the truth does not always give us hope and pleasant, in
this story, the characters are suffered by the truth and the way to find it.
Orestes father, Agamemnon, is suffered for the truth of the prophecy, the child is the price: if he kills
his child, his country will win the war. Due to this prophecy, Agamemnon is tortured and agonizing
between his two important roles: father of his family and father of the country. If he chooses his
family and doesn t kill his child, they will lose the war. All people in the country will be tortured as
slaves and colonists. However, if he chooses the win, the peace and the pleasant from a family will not
exist anymore. His family will be demolished. Eventually, in the middle of the story, he decides to kill
Iphigenia. Agamemnon chooses his country, his subjects, and the win, not his family s peace. He
makes Iphigenia drink three solutions including the pills which make her die. I feel like I ve done
something so wrong that my whole life, my family, nothing will be able to the worst mistake. I got it
wrong. It was wrong. It was wrong (Aeschylus, 56.) This demonstrates how he is suffered by the truth

Gramophone Research Paper
Some believe that about 30,000 to 60,000 years ago, music was first discovered. The love of a song
back then could only be heard live or if you learned to play it yourself. Since then, there have been
many inventions for you to listen to your favorite genres, songs, and artists anytime you like. The
history of music players dates back to November 21, 1877 when Thomas Alva Edison invented a
device for recording sounds and then playing it back called the Gramophone. It was patented on
February 19, 1878. The Gramophone looked like a cylinder that was smaller at one end and bigger at
the other. Even today, at the annual Grammy Awards the awards that are given out are miniature
versions of Edison s invention. Despite the Phonograph and the Gramophone s success, the invention
of the radio in 1906 was a threat to the recording industry. The major record companies had a hard
time keeping their own sales up due to the radio, but the later invention of the LPs and 45 rpm records
made the sales rocket. By the 60s and 70s, the records had taken America by storm. There are many
types of records with a variety of number of songs. A 10 inch 78 RPM record could play only about 3
minutes of music. But as sizes changed and the ways the songs were put on the record changed, so ...

The Glass Menagerie By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Glass Menagerie is arguably the most symbolic and deep plays ever written. The Glass Menagerie
isn t just a story of Laura s disability, it has a deeper meaning behind it, and it can be easily
overlooked by mediocre minds. Although the story revolves around the Wingfield family, Tennessee
Williams throws in symbolism that corresponds with his childhood. In a way, he found closure for the
loss of his sister Rose through writing The Glass Menagerie. One of the symbols is the play that holds
a different meaning for each of the characters is the fire escape. As the play evolves the fire escape
brings out Laura s, Tom s, and Amanda s true desires. OR
The fire escape like the other symbols hold a deeper understanding of the characters, and although
Tennessee didn t admit that he wrote this story off of his own experiences as a child having dealt with
similar circumstances, it s obvious it was written about his childhood. So, the symbolism also makes a
deeper understanding of Tennessee himself and the kind of life he lived. As I said the fire escape
shows the desire of escape, the realization of danger within the Wingfield home, and the characters
true qualities are brought out by the fire escape.
For Laura, the fire escape is symbolic to show how interdependent she is on other people once she
slipped and fell. It signified that she can t even go outside alone without getting hurt. Laura always
needs someone to be with her. The real world is too much for Laura; she could

8,265% + 1,3% = 9,565% We assume that the fixed debt in the Lodging division would have a longer
duration than that in the Restaurants division, hence we used 30 year Gov. bond rate for fixed debt in
Lodging division and 10 year Gov. rate for fixed debt in Restaurants division. For the floating debt,
we considered the 1 year Gov. rate applying to both Lodging and restaurants divisions. Furthermore,
after taking the average of both floating and fixed debt rates for both divisions respectively we added
the premium above Gov. Rate to the result and arrived at the pretax cost of debt. Cost of Equity

the investments in each division. We ll consider the MRP (Market Risk Premium) of 7.43% based on
the average spread between S P 500 composite returns and long term US Gov.

Child soldiers is an inside look at the widen existence of armed children who participate in hostilities.
In this study, Professor Goodwin Gill and Dr Cohn emphasize the ways in which international
humanitarian law fails to provide effective protection, particularly in the internal conflicts, examine
the consequences of children participation in armed conflicts and provide factual suggestions for
preventing the recruitment.
More analytically, the authors examine all the aspects that lead children to bear arms by focusing on
conflicts in Guatemala, Israeli, El Salvador, Sri Lanka and Liberia. The book firstly responds to the
question of what the child is and secondly to what are the reasons for children participating in armed
conflicts. At the end, significant suggestions are given on how to prevent and halt the recruitment of
children into armed groups.
The authors, Professor Guy Goodwin Gill and Dr Ilene Cohn, are two eminent lawyers whose work on
Child soldiers was commissioned by the Henry Dunant Institute, the research centre of the Red Cross
movement in Geneva. It is probably not coincidence that this book was launched in 1994, three years
after the Conference on Children of War, taken place in Stockholm and organized by the Swedish Red

Emergency Fund Essay
How to Build an Emergency Fund
Whether or not you call it an emergency or rainy day fund it is all the same.
Basically, it is a pot of money set aside just in case something happens that is unforeseen i.e., a job

During the economic crisis this was some people s only and best line of defense against the loss of

Emergencies are part of life. Being prepared could make all the difference.

Benefits of having emergency savings
You are less likely to make bad financial decisions. I am sure no one wants to let the lack of money
cause them to make bad decisions. No knee jerk reactions required if funds are set in reserve. Read
about finances, save, then invest. When you know better you do better.
Less stress is a huge benefit. High stress can trigger all types of health problems from headaches to
heart disease. An emergency fund can help alleviate stressors as these.
Being able to help others. You can now volunteer, donate, or help family and friends when people are
in need. Helping others makes you feel good too. This is also a stress reliever. How much should you
have in an emergency savings?
I recommend 3 12 months worth of expenses. I have a preference for 8 months because when I lost
my job during the recession it took me that long to land a new job.
You should start with a specific goal in mind such as $500 and continue saving from there. NerdWallet
columnist, Liz Weston says $500 is a good place to start, will get you out of most predicaments, and
usually keep you out of the hole.

parties one being The Harvard Negotiating Institute and the other being. William Ury and Roger

needs and interests without the other s agreement.
Knowing your limits gives you the strength and confidence to walk away when needed. Try and not
back yourself into a corner with no way out. Leave an alternative when ever possible. Having set
limits are good but don t make the bottom line so inflexible that you can t reexamine someone s offer
in a different light. Knowing when no deal is the best thing for you can be a hard decision at times.
What will happen if I can t reach an agreement? Letting go of the pressure for a deal may lead to

Gallipoli Significance
The landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 is often considered the most important event of the Gallipoli
campaign of the First World War. Consequently, events and experiences that deserve equal or greater
recognition are disregarded.
The battle of Lone Pine was a fine display of courage. The attack was planned to draw the attention of
the Turks and support another attack with the intention of breaking the stalemate. Many soldiers of
different nationalities arrived in early August to support the cause (McAnulty, 4 5 August, 1915). The
attack commenced on August 6 when the Allied soldiers bombarded Turkish lines, resulting in fierce
hand to hand fighting. Soldiers from both sides lay dead on the ground, many in close proximity. The

In the early morning of April 25, 1915 ships from the Allied forces arrived at Gallipoli. They had
expected a flat beach, but due to an incorrect landing position they instead found steep cliffs. The
soldiers scurried to claim ground whilst enduring constant fire and shelling from the determined
Turkish soldiers, with many losing their lives in the process. The Anzacs had drawn plans to claim a
lot of ground, but instead captured a small portion of it. The poor execution of the landing caused the
loss of 747 Anzacs on the first day, with 860 Australian deaths occurring within the first five days
(AWM, 2016). These soldiers never truly received a chance to defend their country. Although this
event marked the beginning of the Gallipoli campaign, there weren t many other reasons to claim it

A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel García Márquez
Sympathy between humans stretches a far distance, but for other beings more extraordinary
compassion is thrown away at the first sight of difference. Between the two supernatural beings in
Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , one gets more kindness and awe from the
ordinary people because of her human origins; while the other supernatural being, an old man with
wings, is mistreated. The differences between the two being s origins portray human nature and its
detriments. That is the human nature Marquez portrays in the villagers treatment of the two
paranormal beings. Treatment of supernatural beings by humans depends on an explanation of their
origin and how they came about. The man with wings is the first supernatural being introduced in the
story. He is found washed ashore by the main character, Pelayo. After consulting a wise woman,
Pelayo is told that he has found an angel. The wise woman proceeds to tell Pelayo that he should club
the Angel to death, as angels are seen as ...fugitive survivors of a spiritual conspiracy... (Marquez).
Pelayo decides to consult a priest before taking action against the angel. When the priest arrives, he
speaks to the angel in Latin. Validity in the angel arises when the ... priest had his first suspicion of an
imposter when he saw that he did not understand the language of God or know how to greet His
ministers. (Marquez). The priest examined the angel more in depth, and noticed that his interpretation
of an angel did

Different Types Of Managed Care
In the US, there are a variety of payment options available to access health care. These options
include: Health insurance, both private and public, out of pocket and safety net options. Private
insurance includes Employer based coverage, whether the employer pays for insurance or provides
insurance, individually purchased insurance or the Market exchange based health insurance. For
private insurance an employer or individuals can purchase from a commercial vendor such as Blue
Cross. For those purchasing insurance through the Exchange, insurance plans are also purchased and
individuals whose income falls between 138% and 400% of the FPL, the federal government provides
subsidies for premiums. Public insurance includes Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP ... Show more content

These strategies include Bundled or episodic payments in which conditions are set at fixed prices
similar to DRGs, and the pay for performance model vs the fee for service model which includes
monetary incentives for achieving health outcome goals. When discussing reducing costs, the issue of
compromising quality arises and with these alternative options, quality of care is the cornerstone and
is encouraged throughout. With Bundled payments, providers will be encouraged to work more
efficiently and not grossly utilize unnecessary services since a set amount is put aside to cover care.
Pay for performance is an incentive based approach that encourages providers to work efficiently and
effectively to achieve set measures which like bundled payments will maintain the quality of care
provided.

The Roll Of A Leader
Dominic Harris
Nash, Becknell
11/11/2015
The roll of a leader is more than basically holding an initiative position or being able to lead.
Everybody is fit for being a leader, yet not everybody practices their initiative capacities. Every
individual s concept of initiative is distinctive. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and
being a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and Grace College men s soccer team
has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership rapidly than what it was four years ago.
According John Carter, Director of the Indiana Olympic Development Program, ODP is a national
program, started in 1977, to identify, train, and develop youth players to represent their state, region,
and country in soccer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have such respect for me parents so I work hard to not forget what they taught me at home. So when
I play with ODP I learn to understand other player to be a better captain and I work hard on and of the
soccer field to be a good leader for my teammate. As for Grace College men s soccer team I am being
led by other so I try to work harder to set a good leading example with other around me.
My own philosophy of authority is the ability to impact change through showing others how it is done,
taking activity, and inspiring others. There have been numerous things that have affected my theory of
initiative. Something that has affected me as leader is this values I life by now. One of my center
values is responsibility. As a leader, it is vital I comprehend what to do and what is anticipated from
me. When I am dependable as a leader, those I am attempting to lead are all the more ready to do what
I request that they do. Another of my values is respect. Previously, I am constantly pleasant and listen
to the thoughts of others regardless of the fact that they are not the least demanding individuals to be
around. I would say, it has been simpler to procure the admiration of my constituents and respect them
as well. My central beliefs will continue to influence my behavior as a leader in the future to come.
The development of my leadership philosophy has also been a result of watching my leaders. One
leader that has affected me a lot has been my father. I never

Dramatic Irony in Hamlet Essay
Dramatic irony in the Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet has long been the subject matter of literary
critical reviews. This essay will exemplify and elaborate on the irony in the play.
David Bevington in the Introduction to Twentieth Century Interpretations of Hamlet identifies one of
the richest sources of dramatic irony in Hamlet:
Well may the dying Hamlet urge his friend Horatio to report me and my cause aright To the
unsatisfied, for no one save Horatio has caught more than a glimpse of Hamlet s true situation. We as
omniscient audience, hearing the inner thoughts of Claudius as well as of Hamlet and learning of
Polonius or Laertes secret plottings with the king, should remember that we know vastly more than the

George Lyman Kittredge, in his book, Five Plays of Shakespeare, describes the Bard s excellent
characterization of Claudius:
King Claudius is a superb figure almost as great a dramatic creation as Hamlet himself. His
intellectual powers are of the highest order. He is eloquent formal when formality is appropriate (as in
the speech from the throne), graciously familiar when familiarity is in place (as is his treatment of the
family of Polonius), persuasive to an almost superhuman degree (as in his manipulation of the
insurgent Laertes) always and everywhere a model of royal dignity. His courage is manifested, under
the most terrifying circumstances, when the mob breaks into the palace. His self control when the
dumb show enacts his secret crime before his eyes is nothing less than marvelous. (xviii)
The irony found in the characterization of the antagonist is balanced by an equal irony in the
presentation of the protagonist. Hamlet is present at the court gathering dressed in black, the color of
mourning, for his deceased father. He is not a man of the world, but rather demurring and thoughtful
and by himself. His first words say that Claudius is A little more than kin and less than kind, indicating
a dissimilarity in values

Open Ended Questions In Research Essay
Questionnaires and surveys are useful for determining the attitudes, characteristics, profiles, beliefs
from a sample of people. In designing a questionnaire that focuses on open ended questions the main
concern should be on determining the way the responses will be quantified.
Open ended questions are often used in research to clarify closed questions or as a means of
generating ideas. In both cases it is generally assumed that the longer and more detailed the response
to an open ended question the better (Graziano et al, 2000). However, relatively little is known about
the effect of factors such as question wording or questionnaire design on the response to open ended
questions.
There is a need to ask open ended questions when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

idea or opinion is expressed. This method could induce bias if the person doing the interview or

of the work I chose was The Photographer, Getting Even, Carousel Bartender, Chandelier and Alex s
Music Room. The year this work was published was in 2003. The art shown is photographs in black
and white and is hand tinted with color oils. The subject of this art is to showcase events in everyday
life. By expressing it emotional and creativity by capturing the things many people wouldn t think that
are a realty Paint of the artwork is really has a lot of going on outside of the main attraction. In Alex s
music s room the first thing that captures your eyes is all the red in the painting and the violins, harper
and the cymbal on the floor. When you look closer into the painting you can see crazy details. Like the
lions laying around in the music room and the candles in the pieced looks as if it s a person not really
a candle. The decoration on the chandelier looks like there is really gems hanging in the art. In the art
piece Getting Even its isn t as detailed but it makes you wonder how did Schenck catch this moment
on his camera. The painting its taking place in some field of flowers. It s late at night and it looks like
a man is about to kill another person but the other human being is just standing there. I guess the
person is getting even by homicide since that s the name of the painting. The painting doesn t really
focus on the people in it. It focusses more on the scenery because its more emphasized in the painting.
The people are more a shadow and in the background I would say. My favorite painting out of the five
would have to the be the Carousel Bartender you can see it in my expression. When I was looking at
the art this was the first painting that caught my attention. The lights caught my attention since its

Ethics of Human Cloning and Genetic Engineering Essay
INTRODUCTION
When the Roslin Institute s first sheep cloning work was announced in March 1996 the papers were
full of speculation about its long term implications. Because of this discovery, the media s attention
has focused mainly on discussion of the possibility, of cloning humans. In doing so, it has missed the
much more immediate impact of this work on how we use animals. It s not certain this would really
lead to flocks of cloned lambs in the fields of rural America, or clinically reproducible cuts of meat on
the supermarket shelves. But it does force us to ask questions about the way we are using animals with
new technology, and the kinds of assumptions we make. To create Dolly (the cloned sheep), Scottish
researchers simply took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of animals and the amount of milk is very small compared with conventional meat or bulk
milk production. Imagine you are a commercial breeder of cows or hogs, and over many generations
you have bred some fine and valuable animals with highly desirable characteristics. One possible
application of Roslin s work could be to clone such animals from the cells of one of them, and sell the
cloned animals to finishers those farmers who simply feed up the animals for slaughter, rather than
breed them to produce more stock. Again, the breeder might want to clone a series of fast growing,
highly productive animals in a breeding program, in order to test how the same genotype responded to
different environmental changes.
ANALYSIS
Would cloning narrow genetic diversity too far? Before we look at the ethics, there are some practical
problems to consider. One of the fundamental rules of selective breeding is that you must maintain a
high enough level of genetic variation. The more you narrow down the genetic pool to a limited
number, the more you run two risks. One is that you could also have accidentally selected for some
other not so desirable characteristic along with the one you wanted. (Klug, 1996) The selected lines
could have certain disadvantages in some other genetic trait. These would be evened out in normal
genetic diversity of selective breeding, but if animals were cloned, there would be no selection. The
second risk is that

The Importance of Driving Education
Baseball is like driving, it s the one who gets home safely that counts. said by Tommy Lasorda. As we
accumulated all the photos of car accidents in the world, it would make the saddest of yearbooks:
faces of seniors with unfilled plans of college, pictures of juniors who never made it to Sijil Pelajaran
Malaysia (SPM) and freshman who could never been kissed. Therefore driving education is
compulsory for all drivers before they get their driving license. Driving education is a course of study,
as for high school students, teaches the techniques of driving a vehicle, along with basic vehicle
maintenance, safety precautions, and traffic regulations and laws. In Malaysia, all drivers need to pass
two tests to get their driving license which are rules and regulation test as well as driving test.
However, in a sign of the times, people changed, culture changed, and society changed. Nowadays,
many teenagers had got their driving license once they come to the limitation of age at sixteen or
seventeen. Some of them have not being fully developed even in their personality and emotional
behavior. This situation brings to the increase in road accidents and so forth. As a result, quality of
driving education should be improved in order to reduce road accident and to produce quality drivers
on roads. First of all, driving education should be improved for all drivers in order to reduce road
accident. As being responsible drivers, they always have to concentrate on driving

What Does The Scaffold Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter
Symbol of Sin In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, the use of a torturous scaffold symbolizes
sin and redemption. In Hawthorne s novel, the afflicting scaffold is present in three scenes throughout
the story. The first scene occurs during the introduction of the novel, where Hester Prynne is given
time on the structure in return for her sinful crime of adultery. The second scene occurs in the middle
of the novel, where Arthur Dimmesdale stands on the scaffold, feeling remorse and guilt for his crime
which he commits with Prynne. The final scene takes place in the resolution of the story, where
Dimmesdale is dying and confesses his sin in front of the whole town. Throughout The Scarlet Letter,
the scaffold is a penalty described as ridicule, is used to symbolize sin, and is used to tie the characters
together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in this quote, On the other hand, a penalty which, in our days, would infer a degree of
mocking infamy and ridicule, might then be invested with almost as stern a dignity as the punishment
of death itself. (Hawthorne 35) the scaffold is used as mockery for the criminal. Hester Prynne was
sentenced to the scaffold and was verbally and physically abused by her fellow citizens. In addition,
this quote is describing the scaffold in great detail, The same platform or scaffold, black and weather
stained with the storm or sunshine of seven long years, and foot worn, too, with the tread of many
culprits who had since ascended it, remained standing beneath the balcony of the meetinghouse.
(Hawthorne 101). This reference is describing the scaffold and how it changes from the seven years
since Hester last stepped on its platform. The scaffold is a symbolic structure that is used as
punishment for Hester Prynne s

Safe Driving Advertising Persuasion Techniques
Safe Driving Advertisement/Persuasion Techniques
The Frontier Post advertisement with the keys shaped as a gun is more pointed towards Logos and
Ethos being its modes of persuasion. In this advertisement, logos is present because there are texts
within the ad that is factual. The text states Takes one life every 25 seconds and Drive Safe . Then we
have ethos, ethos is present because the keys are positioned in the shape of a gun. This ad is more than
likely hinting that every time you get in a vehicle it can be just as dangerous as a loaded gun. Now for
pathos, pathos isn t present because there is no celebrity present. There is also no one to show

Using An Esterification Reaction And Conduct A Purity Test...
Objective: Students will be able to synthesize aspirin using an esterification reaction and conduct a
purity test on the aspirin crystals and a commercial aspirin product.
Procedure:
Preparation of Aspirin
Begin by weighing a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask and recording the result. Next, add approximately 2 g
of salicylic acid to the Erlenmeyer flask. Then, record the new mass of the Erlenmeyer and the
salicylic acid. Next, inside of the hood add 5 mL of acetic anhydride and 10 drops of 85% phosphoric
acid. Stir the mixture with a stirring rod. Next, place the flask in a boiling water bath and stir until the
solid dissolves. Next, remove the flask from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then,
add 20 drops of water to the flask. Next, add 25 mL of cold water to the flask and place it in an ice
bath for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, to collect the Aspirin crystals, add a piece of filter paper to a
Büchner filtration apparatus. Then, fit the funnel snuggly in the rubber washer of the filter flask. Next,
turn on the water aspirator and pour the aspirin product slowly onto the center of the filter paper. Then,
push down gently on the funnel to suction out the water from the aspirin product. After the crystals
have formed on the filter paper, obtain a weight boat. Record the mass of the weight boat. Next, use a
spatula to transfer the crystals onto the weigh boat. Then, after the crystals have dried, record the mass
of the weight boat and aspirin product.

Tony Smith Die Analysis
Die, made in 1968, is a minimalist sculptural artwork by renowned American artist Tony Smith. Smith
had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made a six inch cardboard model, but he did
not have Die fabricated until 1968. The final format of Die is a six foot cube of quarter inch hot rolled
steel that is held together by internal steel bracing. To have it created, Smith worked with the
Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its rusty, industrial external
appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire much of his later work. During
exhibitions, the 500 pound steel Die sits on the floor, inviting patrons to walk around it and view it
from one or more sides at a time. As Smith explained,

  • 2. Introduction to Forensic Investigations Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877 1966) was a French scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923). This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would directly link back to the offender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when they get packed away in boxes they could chip on the handle. Everything can affect an objects uniquness. If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove this test to be false. Paul Leland Kirk believed that individualisation was a key idea in Forensic Investigations and stated that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Denver Basin Aquifer Framework Denver Basin Aquifer The Denver Basin aquifer framework is a noteworthy wellspring of water for South Metro Denver. The system extends from Colorado Springs in the south to Greeley in the north, from the foothills close to Golden in the west, toward the eastern fields close to Limon, is a surface locale of around 6,700 square miles. It joins four aquifers: the Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie Fox Hills. Each aquifer has different water quality, profundities, and water availability (CFWE, 2002). Describe the source of the groundwater, that is, where is the rainfall and snowmelt that feeds the aquifer coming from, and what are the best estimates of the travel time from the source to the point of withdrawal. The Denver Basin has a semi arid atmosphere in which potential yearly evaporation is around five times greater than yearly precipitation. Most of the precipitation that falls on the land surface either runs off in streams, is evaporated from the surface of the soil, or is consumed by vegetation. Although this may be the case, a little part of the precipitation more often than not diffuses downwards and recharges the groundwater system. In the Denver Basin, a lot of the recharge happens in the highland areas between stream channels in the higher southern part of the basin. Precipitation is more prominent here, and the porous soils derived from the Dawson Arkose allow deep permeation. Recharge here can happen on a local and a regional scale. Locally, water moves ... • 4. Devil s Knot Essay On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis Arkansas. The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn their focus on Satanism. Unfortunately, three teenage boys became the prime suspects: Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Because they wore black and listened to hard rock music, they were outcasts. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage boys, the community lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. All the while, there is more than just circumstantial evidence that points to one of the victims stepfather, John Mark Byers. He had the means, motive, and opportunity to commit this heinous crime. It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation that the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed. Christopher was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second, Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel). This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target. The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead with the arrests. It is rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced confession given by Jessie is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police and brings the credibility of the department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers household belonging to John Mark Byers. Forensics stated that the type of blade on the knife was the same type used to cut and mutilate the three young boys; yet the blood found on the knife was never analyzed. When asked about the knife, Byers stated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Gramophone Research Paper Some believe that about 30,000 to 60,000 years ago, music was first discovered. The love of a song back then could only be heard live or if you learned to play it yourself. Since then, there have been many inventions for you to listen to your favorite genres, songs, and artists anytime you like. The history of music players dates back to November 21, 1877 when Thomas Alva Edison invented a device for recording sounds and then playing it back called the Gramophone. It was patented on February 19, 1878. The Gramophone looked like a cylinder that was smaller at one end and bigger at the other. Even today, at the annual Grammy Awards the awards that are given out are miniature versions of Edison s invention. Despite the Phonograph and the Gramophone s success, the invention of the radio in 1906 was a threat to the recording industry. The major record companies had a hard time keeping their own sales up due to the radio, but the later invention of the LPs and 45 rpm records made the sales rocket. By the 60s and 70s, the records had taken America by storm. There are many types of records with a variety of number of songs. A 10 inch 78 RPM record could play only about 3 minutes of music. • 10. The Glass Menagerie By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Glass Menagerie is arguably the most symbolic and deep plays ever written. The Glass Menagerie isn t just a story of Laura s disability, it has a deeper meaning behind it, and it can be easily overlooked by mediocre minds. Although the story revolves around the Wingfield family, Tennessee Williams throws in symbolism that corresponds with his childhood. In a way, he found closure for the loss of his sister Rose through writing The Glass Menagerie. One of the symbols is the play that holds a different meaning for each of the characters is the fire escape. As the play evolves the fire escape brings out Laura s, Tom s, and Amanda s true desires. OR The fire escape like the other symbols hold a deeper understanding of the characters, and although Tennessee didn t admit that he wrote this story off of his own experiences as a child having dealt with similar circumstances, it s obvious it was written about his childhood. So, the symbolism also makes a deeper understanding of Tennessee himself and the kind of life he lived. As I said the fire escape shows the desire of escape, the realization of danger within the Wingfield home, and the characters true qualities are brought out by the fire escape. For Laura, the fire escape is symbolic to show how interdependent she is on other people once she slipped and fell. It signified that she can t even go outside alone without getting hurt. Laura always needs someone to be with her. The real world is too much for Laura; she could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Contrast of “Gilgamesh” and “The Flood” Not doing suitably what you are advised to do, are human downfalls having no recompense; whereas, following the rules on timely basis will be the most worthwhile outcome. In this study, Professor Goodwin Gill and Dr Cohn emphasize the ways in which international humanitarian law fails to provide effective protection, particularly in the internal conflicts, examine the consequences of children participation in armed conflicts and provide factual suggestions for preventing the recruitment. More analytically, the authors examine all the aspects that lead children to bear arms by focusing on conflicts in Guatemala, Israeli, El Salvador, Sri Lanka and Liberia. The book firstly responds to the question of what the child is and secondly to what are the reasons for children participating in armed conflicts. At the end, significant suggestions are given on how to prevent and halt the recruitment of children into armed groups. Between the two supernatural beings in Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , one gets more kindness and awe from the ordinary people because of her human origins; while the other supernatural being, an old man with wings, is mistreated. The differences between the two being s origins portray human nature and its detriments. That is the human nature Marquez portrays in the villagers treatment of the two paranormal beings. Ethics of Human Cloning and Genetic Engineering Essay INTRODUCTION When the Roslin Institute s first sheep cloning work was announced in March 1996 the papers were full of speculation about its long term implications. Because of this discovery, the media s attention has focused mainly on discussion of the possibility, of cloning humans. In doing so, it has missed the much more immediate impact of this work on how we use animals. It s not certain this would really lead to flocks of cloned lambs in the fields of rural America, or clinically reproducible cuts of meat on the supermarket shelves. The amount of animals and the amount of milk is very small compared with conventional meat or bulk milk production. Imagine you are a commercial breeder of cows or hogs, and over many generations you have bred some fine and valuable animals with highly desirable characteristics. One possible application of Roslin s work could be to clone such animals from the cells of one of them, and sell the cloned animals to finishers those farmers who simply feed up the animals for slaughter, rather than breed them to produce more stock. Again, the breeder might want to clone a series of fast growing, highly productive animals in a breeding program, in order to test how the same genotype responded to different environmental changes. ANALYSIS Would cloning narrow genetic diversity too far? Before we look at the ethics, there are some practical problems to consider. One of the fundamental rules of selective breeding is that you must maintain a high enough level of genetic variation. The more you narrow down the genetic pool to a limited number, the more you run two risks. One is that you could also have accidentally selected for some other not so desirable characteristic along with the one you wanted. (Klug, 1996) The selected lines could have certain disadvantages in some other genetic trait. These would be evened out in normal genetic diversity of selective breeding, but if animals were cloned, there would be no selection. The second risk is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Using An Esterification Reaction And Conduct A Purity Test... Objective: Students will be able to synthesize aspirin using an esterification reaction and conduct a purity test on the aspirin crystals and a commercial aspirin product. Procedure: Preparation of Aspirin Begin by weighing a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask and recording the result. Next, add approximately 2 g of salicylic acid to the Erlenmeyer flask. Then, record the new mass of the Erlenmeyer and the salicylic acid. Next, inside of the hood add 5 mL of acetic anhydride and 10 drops of 85% phosphoric acid. Stir the mixture with a stirring rod. Next, place the flask in a boiling water bath and stir until the solid dissolves. Next, remove the flask from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then, add 20 drops of water to the flask. Next, add 25 mL of cold water to the flask and place it in an ice bath for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, to collect the Aspirin crystals, add a piece of filter paper to a Büchner filtration apparatus. Then, fit the funnel snuggly in the rubber washer of the filter flask. Next, turn on the water aspirator and pour the aspirin product slowly onto the center of the filter paper. Then, push down gently on the funnel to suction out the water from the aspirin product. After the crystals have formed on the filter paper, obtain a weight boat. Record the mass of the weight boat. Next, use a spatula to transfer the crystals onto the weigh boat. Then, after the crystals have dried, record the mass of the weight boat and aspirin product. Testing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Tony Smith Die Analysis Die, made in 1968, is a minimalist sculptural artwork by renowned American artist Tony Smith. Smith had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made a six inch cardboard model, but he did not have Die fabricated until 1968. The final format of Die is a six foot cube of quarter inch hot rolled steel that is held together by internal steel bracing. To have it created, Smith worked with the Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its rusty, industrial external appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire much of his later work. During exhibitions, the 500 pound steel Die sits on the floor, inviting patrons to walk around it and view it from one or more sides at a time. As Smith explained, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
