The Effects Of Illegal Immigrants On The United States
There are millions of illegal immigrants in the United States, as Markon (2016) argues that the
majority are from South and Central America, Europe, and Mexico. They form a population of
between 10 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. One of these illegal
is my father, who came to the U.S.A in 1996 to work and tried to pay the numerous debts that he got
in my country; in addition, my country had a large concern where there weren t jobs and several banks
had gone broke because of the change from Sucre to the dollar. At that time, my father thought the
only solution was to come to get that money. My father, there are other undocumented immigrants that
came from the same situation or for other reasons to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James (1991) points out that illegal made various effects to be legal, such as creating fake documents
like Social Security or green cards, and faking marriage. All those affairs are called fraud, and they
can be deported directly without any opportunity to get a trial. Anti immigration supports comment
that the problem with undocumented immigrant workers is that flouting the law has become the norm.
(Miller, 2010).
Another reason why people support deportation is because some illegals come as criminals and cross
the border to damage the country. According to James (1991) says some of illegals cross the border to
bring drugs like cocaine, heroin, and marijuana, or do illicit things. The drugs, which a lot of
Americans consume, come from South America to Mexico. Where a drug dealer produces, then and
sends them to the U.S.A. In the 1990 s the maximum portion of the drugs came from Mexico, where
drug traffickers passed the drugs through the river that is between Mexico and the U.S.A (James,
1991). These acts have created the increase of crime and violence and have made it unsafe peacefully
to live for the citizens and for the life of the members of the Border Patrol by illegal border crossers
(James, 1991).
However, not all undocumented immigrants cause a harmful effect and

Bram Stoker’S 1897 Novel Dracula Is Far From Being A Simple
Bram Stoker s 1897 novel Dracula is far from being a simple penny dreadful in which good triumphs
evil; instead it is a story of contradictions. The Count himself is one of them; he is both living and
dead. Stoker creates this awkward and anxiety inducing contradictions not only in the Count but
within Victorian era itself. In this time of enlightenment, superstition and science are constantly shown
to be intertwined in a way that seems to bewilder the characters as much it does the audience. Stoker
depicts the characters hunting Dracula relying on both modernity and superstition to successfully
defeat Dracula, Stoker illustrates the failure of relying only on modern thinking. While initially
refusing to believe in the myth surrounding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quick sending of messages was also necessary in tracking the vampire. In the scene where they
learned that the Count was aboard a boat in his voyage to Transylvania, Arthur has telegrams sent to
him daily to keep tabs on its whereabouts. Telegrams were also sent between Lucy s suitors so that
Van Helsing can use them for blood transfusions. The transfusions are also modern technology; with
them they were able to prolong the life of Lucy long enough so that Van Helsing could connect the
dots. The use of modern technologies was crucial to successfully hunting the Count. Without the
modern construct of social class the group wouldn t have been able to afford the latest technology. The
high social ranking did blind them from the superstition which would be fairly common for a person
from a lesser social ranking to believe in. The characters thought process through the situations that
occurred prior to them brutality killing Lucy s vampire corpse was strongly correlated to their social
class. They were mostly professional, wealthy, and young men who regarded the superstition as
something that the unknowledgeable feared. In the scene where Van Helsing discovers that Lucy has
risen from the dead and begun to feed on the local town s children. Dr. Seward and the rest of the
group initial didn t believe in Van Helsing s theory that Lucy was a blood thirsty vampire . Van
Helsing offers the group the opportunity to see empirical proof that Lucy was indeed turned

The Longworth House Office Building, Thomas Jefferson...
What I would like to point out especially is its capital. The building has capitals with two volutes,
which was very common in the Ionic order. Each column consists of the capital, shaft, and base, which
is analogous to the basic form of the Ionic order. The most important feature of the Ionic order is the
frieze, which is usually carved with relief sculpture arranged in a continuous pattern around the
building (Hemingway, 2003). However, the feature was not applied to this building. Both in the Doric
and the Ionic, the column are fluted but these columns have smooth surfaces. During my research, I
found that many architectures identified as the Ionic order style, actually have smooth surface columns
as well (ex. the Longworth House Office Building, Thomas Jefferson Memorial). Various architectural
designs that the Western society has adopted demonstrates how heavily they are influenced by the
Ancient Greek culture and the Roman culture. During those eras, the buildings were intended to
communicate its function to the viewer automatically. Known as architecture parlante (which literally
meant speaking architecture ), its purpose was to explain its identity to the viewer. The term used for

evidenced in many San Francisco landmarks such as the Opera House, the Veterans Building, Coit

movement became widely spread and popular especially among those U.S. landmarks referred to as
the nation s Crown Jewel . It makes sense that Brown chose the neoclassical style, as an expression of
loyalty and respect for his own alma mater because the style is comprised of precision and superiority

Statement For Sop For Electronics
Today, the world is dominated by the field of electronics. Innovative ideas are coming into existence
in our day to day life. Electronics plays a key role in the organization of any system under
consideration. This trait of electronics extends into a broader scope. Thus, pursuing a career in the
electronics field is my goal. Thus, Masters in Electrical Engineering with Electronics as the major is
an apt choice to reach my goal.
My interest in Electronics sprouted from my childhood days. When I was five, I always had the habit
of breaking remote cars and planes, and explore what is actually present inside. Governing the
operations of the car or television by a remote from a distance was an enigmatic concept to visualize
at that stage. So, what actually constitutes the design of the remote was a question that always been
pondering my mind. It is the small electronic design that controls the entire operation. Thus this habit
went on up to the extent that , I developed the hobby of breaking all the worn out gadgets and goods
such as laptop chargers, cell phones etc. and have a collection of electronic design present in those
gadgets.
In my high school, my physics teacher realised my interest and influenced me in taking a Bachelor

Why Do People Join Organized Religion
Question 1
I honestly think that people, in general, want to feel a sense of belonging and that there is something
greater than themselves guiding us through our day to day lives. In many instances, people believe in a
God/Entity because it is a part of their culture and is held in high regard. Both in years past to present
religion has played a major role in the way we as people view ourselves and each other. An example
of why people join an organized religion would be for the purpose of social status. An example of that
I would say is Scientology. From the outside looking in it really looks like this group is particularly
seeking out the rich and famous to join the church. There are Scientology churches that are
specifically for their rich and famous members to attend. Yet the less fortunate members are treated
with less grandeur. That really seems like it s all about the status/money the church gains from its
members and the status the members gain by joining this church. I bring this up because the original
idea of joining a religion was to worship the most high and to learn to live by the rules set forth for its
follower. The majority of believers are believers because the religion was handed down to them and
they genuinely feel that the belief and practices are right for them and their families. Some individuals
would say what is church or religion itself, isn t it all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gentrification In Global Cities Essay
Each of the three characteristic contribute to economic growth that subsequently affects social and
spatial relationships within global cities. Sassen states that, Research covering the last two and even
three decades shows sharp increases in socioeconomic and spatial inequalities within major cities of
the developed world and now increasingly also in cities of the global South (Sassen, 241). With the
rise of global cities and an increase in socioeconomic inequalities comes gentrification. Gentrification
changes the market for everyone, as property values go up, people become displaced and
homelessness becomes a bigger problem. Gentrification in a global city is the desire for culture,
restaurants, museums, bars, day care, etc. Examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the mid 1970 s there has been economic and social transformation in the economy in terms of
specific form of urban labor (Sassen, 246). A key shift is the change in occupational and industrial
employment which has also seen a shift in balance. Sassen states that, Such shifts directly affect the
mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability, and the types of careers
available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility leads to an increase in flexible
employment and precarious work. This means that there is an increase in part time jobs that include no
regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly unstable for the employee. With this also comes the
rise of jobs paying under the poverty level. This affects different cities because workers under the
poverty level can not maintain a middle class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle.
Instead of having more areas of middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between
high and low. An example of this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail,
which means that there is large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in
the middle. Aside from retail, labor markets in cities are also structures around sets of jobs that are
very particular (Sassen,

Psychology Of Emma Case Study
Introduction The brain at a young age is a powerful soft organ that develops as the body grows. It
coordinates the center of sensation, intellectuality and the nervous activity. With time it s a wonderful
muscle that we can use for multiple talents and goals. As adults we can store wonderful memories,
important dates and experiences that we had as children. Unfortunately not all children get to develop
a healthy state of mind or store wonderful memories. As children we are naïve about the powerful

Analysis Of The Umar Abdullah Johnson Theory Of Black Male...
The Umar Abdullah Johnson Theory of Black Male Alienation posits that a five stage cycle of
institutional repression exists that has effectively sent more black men to jail than it has to college.
Any attempt to reverse this war against America s most misunderstood population begins with a firm
analysis of the process and its origins in boyhood. Americans, including Blacks, have become so
desensitized to the pain of Black boys and so expectant of their failures that their pain is often
overlooked and their achievements treated like occasional glitches in a system that has successfully
made Black boys a permanent underclass in this country. But the color of a Negro s skin makes him
easily recognizable, makes him suspect, converts him into a defenseless target (Richard Wright, Black
Boy) Mis education often begins at birth. The average first day of life for Black children is when they
become subjected to self hatred and self hating messages about themselves. They re often getting
messages about themselves that is directly or indirectly coming from the white culture. From the first
day they are brought into this world, the mis education and the self hatred towards our babies starts
right then and there. It starts to increase in preschool because in preschool, for those that decide to
send their child to preschool, this will be the first time that the Black boy comes face to face with the

Comparison Of Scrubs, Friends, And Love
The TV sitcoms of Scrubs, Friends, and Love all evolve around single young adults. By comparing the
three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States. Throughout the
episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy to see that Carla
and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because that is where they are
comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes them happy. Ross and
Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely happy when they finally
are. The same goes for Mickey and Gus in Love. The way that love is portrayed through these shows
is that people should be with someone who makes them happy. ... Show more content on

In each show, there was some sort of sexual action between the characters. This is very common now
in TV shows and movies, as it makes a good story. In all three episodes, it was implied that at least
one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are still
attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who they
claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla s case in Scrubs. They
engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work comes
first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is paged.
However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends, Ross was
against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn t a big fan of magic, but went
to the castle with Gus anyways. Also, in Scrubs, Carla decides that the pressure to be romantic
shouldn t all be on Turk. It is one of the things that is observed throughout not just these shows, but
many shows that are on TV today. It does teach good lessons in some

The Emotional Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner
Boom, boom, boom. Mommy, that one is my favorite! Screams a blonde haired, blue eyed five year
old little girl as fireworks screech into the midnight sky over the crystal blue lake on the Fourth of
July. Nearly two hundred and forty years ago our beloved land was born, gaining independence from
Great Britain and declaring America as its own. From that day forward July Fourth would be
celebrated with parades, festivals, and get togethers across the nation. Red, white, and blue blanketing
towns, patriotic music blaring through speakers, and fireworks shooting into the night sky, all to
celebrate the birth of our nation. Across America no matter what day it is, the Star Spangled Banner
flies high, to represent the passion and love Americans have for their homeland; however, present day
issues are rivaling the foundation our Founding Fathers built the Untied States around. Francis Scott
Key sat across the from Fort McHenry the night after the town was bombarded by British militaries.
(history.com) Looking upon the burning city in Maryland, he found himself deeply inspired by the
flag that stood waving gracefully in the smoke filled sky. Galvanized by the sight Key wrote the poem
that would soon stand alone in America and named the anthem that plays before every social event in
America. The Star Spangled Banner was a tribute to all the fallen soldiers in the battles between the
British and American troops that led to our independence. Francis Scott Key wrote, Oh say does

Arkansas City Case Study
The Houston Texans performance against the Kansas City Chiefs wasn t pretty Saturday afternoon. In
the Texans 30 0 blowout loss to Kansas City, Houston failed to establish an effective running game
behind running back Alfred Blue, and Texans quarterback Hoyer never got in a rhythm throwing the
ball. Hoyer completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw four interceptions against the
Chiefs as Kansas City limited the Texans primary source of offense this season, star wide receiver
DeAndre Hopkins. While Kansas City mostly contained Hopkins (69 receiving yards), the Texans
needed a nearly perfect offensive performance to have a realistic chance of defeating the Chiefs.

In recent years, Foster s nagging injuries have plagued Houston s rushing attack. With subpar signal
callers on Houston s roster, the Texans dearly missed Foster s elite talent and dynamic ability out of
the backfield down the stretch of the season. Given Foster s inability to finish most seasons, Houston
should consider developing a rookie running back to play alongside Foster in case he suffers another
injury. Arkansas Razorbacks running back Alex Collins could be that guy. Collins, a hard nosed runner
with a bruising style, could fit well into the Texans system and his skill set could complement Foster s
shiftiness. If Foster continues to show up on the injury report, Houston could begin to transition the
talented tailback to more of a third down role. The void at quarterback is a glaring gap on an
extremely well rounded Texans team. Because of Hackenberg s previous experience with O Brien, the
Texans could remain a playoff team if they grab the Nittany Lions quarterback in the upcoming draft.

of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their enemies,
transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King s story of Simba s rise to succeed his
father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a child into an
adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the responsibilities
associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the protagonist, Simba,
has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon, throughout his entire life
detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well beyond having matured into
an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows his struggles against an unideal
future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond adulthood represents the eastern cultural

Cognitive Learning
Abstract
Cognitive psychology has long been an integral part of psychology. It has a direct impact on how
educator s look to improve the teaching and learning process. (Huitt 2006) Much research is done on
how we process information. There have been numerous models created to help illustrate this process.
Metacognition is also important to educators in it allows a learner to judge how well they are learning
a particular subject. There are many ways that we process information. Theorists have developed
models of information processing. These models are a cornerstone for education. They provide
teachers with understanding of how their students retain the subject matter they are being taught.

done by incorporating information from previous lessons in new lessons or repeating important

Metacognition is the application of the three types of knowledge discussed previously: declarative,

Motivation and Achievement
Where does the term motivation come from? Is it from within an individual s mindset or is it the
dedication that an individual has that tends to be certain when a task is needs to be completed that it is
done is a positive manner? I believe that humans as a species are motivated in some form or fashion
based upon the degree of what motivates them. It can be from money motivating sales associates,
recognition from the upper management, or even someone being motivated to move forward and
succeed for the family that they live every day for. From childhood I always felt the need to impress
my grandfather, the man who always pushed me to move positively in everything that I did. I knew
then that the encouragement and the support that was provided always by him kept me wanting to
finish the challenges that life handed to me. In high school being on the basketball team for my own
pleasure and for those moments to see his smile no matter how hard I played or what I did wrong in
the game he always let me know how proud he was of me. As I grew older and had my own family I
knew how blessed I was to be able to live my life for my children, keep working to provide a better
life for them, earn more money for bonuses so that I am able to get some of the finer things that life
provides without giving up. Even making this final decision to attend school, work full time and stay

of the modern air transportation era that is characterized by speed, comfort and personal convenience.
The commerce of aviation, both the operation of commercial aircraft for profit and the development of

Company History
CGC was led by Ely Callaway (pronounced E lee), a powerful motivator who defined the company s
culture. People described the LaGrange, Georgia, native as charming, feisty, optimistic, energetic, and
inspirational. A distant cousin of golf legend Bobby Jones, Callaway was a golf club champion at 20
and a three handicap golfer at 40. In recent years he found that he did not have much time to play golf.
He said, I spend my time trying to put myself in the place of the average hacker and see how they will
react to our new woods and irons. 1
The Start of CGC
The day after he sold his winery in 1982, Callaway received a cold call from the cashstrapped
founders of a small golf manufacturing company named Hickory Stick USA, Inc. Callaway saw
potential in the antique looking, yet modern clubs, and decided to invest $435,000. He changed the
name of the company to Callaway Hickory Stick, Inc. and focused on expanding the product mix. The
designs were essentially knock offs of existing companies clubs (the only difference lay in the hickory
shafts); thus, Callaway s first priority was to develop original products. Callaway put in $2 million of
his own money over the first three years, thinking it would take the company eight to ten years to
break even.

The Menace Of Materialism In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
The Menace of Materialism
Written by Gustave Flaubert and published in 1856, Madame Bovary tells a story about the life and
death of Emma Bovary, a middle class woman living in mid nineteenth century France. This novel is
known as one of the best examples of literary realism ever written, and for good reason. Through his
writing and attention to detail, Flaubert does an excellent job of giving the reader an idea of just how
mundane everyday life was like in France during the mid nineteenth century. Through the various
characters in the novel, Flaubert is also able to portray many positive and negative characteristics he
saw in the people living during this time. Of the many different characteristics and ideas that Flaubert
uses to describe characters throughout the novel, I think that the many aspects he saw in the
bourgeoisie class and materialism are uniquely important. I believe that the ways Flaubert uses the
ideas and issues of materialism and similar principles he saw in the bourgeoisie to tell the story of
Madame Bovary, to criticize the bourgeoisie, as well as show how harmful and destructive he believed
these issues could be to a society. The historical context of the time that Flaubert lived in is a likely
reason for his use of the bourgeoisie materialistic ideas. In the time period that Gustave Flaubert
worked on Madame Bovary, the bourgeoisie were considered to be a very large class. The bourgeoisie
being a middle class of people such as manufacturers and

Auteur In Film Analysis
Question 8: Take one contemporary director and analyse in detail, discuss and debate how they can be
considered to be an auteur. In your discussion refer to the different ways auteur have been discussed in
film studies.
Introduction:
The term of an auteur has been discussed ever since 1950s and even today it is still as much as
evaluative, as it is also pretty vague and unclear. Many scholars and film studies academics took this
topic into consideration and many of them came up with similar, but significantly different
conclusions or felt that some aspect of already existing theories had to be deepened and expanded.
Nevertheless, even today who is an auteur and who can say so, leads to a very heated argufies. In this

Students Backpacks In Schools
When in the course of human events, it becomes obligatory for Anaheim High School principal to
contribute new lockers for the use of students. The lockers at school are horrendous. There is food
inside the beaten lockers and are displayed across our campus. This gives our school an unsatisfactory
appearance.
We hold these truths to be obvious, that all students should have the right to use lockers provided by
the school. To lessen the amount of weight on the students backpacks, all students should be able to
keep their sports equipment, dance supplies, band instruments, extra binders, etc... at school in their
lockers without having to hassle through the whole school day without all their school requirements.

Analysis Of No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog By Farhad Manjoo
In the article No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your dog, by Farhad Manjoo, the author deeply expresses his
negative opinion towards dogs and their oblivious owners who believe that everyone s a dog lover.
The overall theme of the essay illustrates the lack of responsibility for dog owners have for their pets
as they run ramped through dog free zones. Manjoo deeply expresses his opinion, although lacks some
key supporting points and formulates mostly upon personal bias. With that in mind, I strongly disagree
with the author and believe that his main points does not accurately portray the issue related to dogs.
...........
To begin with, Manjoo s arguments against dogs and their owners don t appear logical and rather
sound more as a rant in attempt to get his point across. More specifically, I found Manjoo s arguments
rather abrupt towards the beginning while he stated his one sided opinion, rather than considering and
addressing those who many disagree with him. In doing so, Manjoo may have attracted a portion of
the audience of who agrees with him, while he only repels those with a neutral or positive view
towards dogs, with his negative and irrational tone. For instance, when Manjoo stated No explanation
was offered for the pooch s presence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world to have a dog in
a place usually reserved for human beings. Huh, I thought (224). In his claim, Manjoo comments that
dogs are found in places usually reserved by humans, the word

Essay On Martha Graham
Martha Graham: dancer, teacher, choreographer, mother of 20th century dance. Martha is recognized
as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. Her dance technique and style
was constantly growing and expanding through experimentation of what the body could do based on
its own structure. I wanted to begin, she said, not with characters or ideas, but with movement (World
Biography). She believed that the purpose of dance was to create an increased awareness of life and a
greater understanding of the nature of humans. By rejecting the traditional steps of classical ballet and
experiencing the art of dance from a unique perspective, Martha Graham could inspire others and

Not many years later, George Graham dies suddenly, leaving
Martha an open opportunity to enroll into a school of art.
From the years 1913 1916, Martha attended the Cumnock School of Expression, a junior college in
Santa Barbara where she would study academic and practical theater arts. This is where her dancing
experience would technically begin, as the students had interpretive dancing three times per week. In
1916, Graham enrolled into the Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn
School of Dance in Los Angeles. The school taught ballet, ethnic dance, music, codified dramatic
gestures, makeup, lighting, costumes, dance history, Greek philosophy, and yoga and meditation. At
age 22, Martha had a late start for training, yet was still serious and intent on becoming a prestigious
dancer. Martha s body was very supple and strong and had the ability to project most every dramatic
movement. She had an extremely flexible body and was very small yet often appeared to be taller. She
was also very disciplined and precise. Ruth ultimately was unimpressed by Graham s abilities, yet
Shawn was drawn to her diligence and memory of the steps and movements. Martha began
performing in 1919 and was given her first leading role in the piece Xochitl in 1920. Soon after
Martha s success in this production, Louis Horst, a pianist for the Denishawn Company, becomes her
strong critic, influence, and mentor of hers. Graham leaves Denishawn Studio in 1923 after

An Analytical And Conceptual Framework On The Possibility...
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION This thesis explores an analytical and conceptual framework on
the possibility of employee ownership influence on organizational loyalty as it applies to the modus
operandi of John Lewis Partnership. There are divergent views about the influence of employee
ownership on organizational loyalty. Research suggests that ownership may influence organizational
loyalty (e.g. Taylor, 2011) but it is not completely clear how, thereby prompting various researches
and scientific experimentation on the subject matter. Scholars (e.g. Lampel et al, 2010) reviewing the
performance differences between companies that practice employee ownership framework and other
forms, like State owned Enterprises (SOE) have provisioned mixed results. On the average, these
investigation by various scholars and academia opined that employee ownership and privatization
usually results in improved loyalty and financial performance (e.g., Andrew and Dowling (1998);
Martin and Parker (1997), Lioukas and Kouremenos (1989)). The process of employee ownership,
involving all business activities and functions associated with exploitation and opportunities
identification (Bygrave and Hofer, 1991; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000), have spawned considerable
interests from practitioners and academics. In reality, the employee ownership functionalities are
processes and elements that are vital to the growth of a business organization and economy.

The Fight Over Stalingrad During World War II
As much as it is glamorized on television and video games, people have forgotten the realities of war.
For in war, soldiers and civilians alike have suffered severely, and combat has put everyone who is
involved to a true test of character. An example of the tests of war is found by looking at Germany s
failed attack on the Russian city of Stalingrad during World War II. In the fight over Stalingrad, there
are examples that demonstrate the struggles that both Russian and German soldiers faced. The
Russians, for example, had to fortify themselves first in the buildings of Stalingrad then in the rubble
of these same buildings as they watched their city crumble. However, the Russian s determination and
reinforcements changed the tide of the battle, and the German forces ultimately found themselves
surrounded by the Russians without necessary war supplies The Russian s determination to hold
Stalingrad is probably best seen in this entry in the war diary of the Russian 62nd Army on October
14, 1942, 1220: radio message from unit of 416th Regiment from hexagonal block of flats:
Surrounded; have water and cartridges; will die rather than surrender (qtd. in The Long Agony, 883).
This determination is only further presented by this statement made by the commander of the 62nd
Army, Buildings split up enemy formations like breakwaters, forcing them to follow the line of the
streets. That is why we clung to the most solid

Matthew Shepard Case Study
Introduction
Twenty one year old, University of Wyoming college gay student, Matthew Shepard, was found tied to
a fence on the Wyoming prairie, barely alive, his skull fractured and his brain stem crushed On
October 7th, 1998. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better equipped one in
Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. Two Laramie men, Russell Henderson (21 years old)
and Aaron McKinney (22 years old), were convicted of murder and serving for two life sentencing.
Issues
1. Aaron James McKinney seemed to believe that his allegation that Shepard had made a pass at him
was sufficient grounds to justify joining with friend Russell Henderson in savagely beating Shepard,
clubbing him with a handgun, lashing him to a wooden fence and leaving him to die. McKinney s
attorney wanted the jury to accept that because McKinney has a homosexual encounter when he was
younger and that he was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol when he alleges Shepard made
a pass at him, that he was therefore not responsible for his actions.
2. Matthew Shepard Murdered By Bisexual Lover And Drug Dealer, not hate crime, Stephen Jimenez
Claims.
Stephen Jimenez, an award winning writer and TV producer, who has spent 13 years interviewing
more than 100 people with a connection to the case, found that Matthew was addicted to and dealing

Key Issues Related To Plagiarism

Do you feel consequences for the misuse of computer ethics are too strict or not strict enough?

Issues related to piracy, plagiarism, and netiquette
Brandon Vail
Piracy and plagiarism are both ways of stealing information from the internet. Piracy is stealing and
selling copyrighted software, books, etc. Plagiarism is improperly citing, playing off someone else s

(2) At any given second, someone in the U.S or elsewhere could be finishing up an illegal download

borderline for the cruel and unusual punishment amendment. Which is exactly why this should be
brought up to the federal courts. Some of the key issues surrounding Piracy, Plagiarism, and
Netiquette are severe, in the sense that if correction is not brought about soon, society as a whole will
suffer.

America’s Domination of the Film Industry
Looking at the film industry as we now know it, it s hard to imagine that America wasn t always the
film producing machine we see it as now. Yet, when we begin looking at all the technological
advances that took place in film over time and the events which occurred during these periods, it was a
complex journey. In the following essay we are going to discuss why I believe that the wars faced both
foreign and domestic played the biggest factor in the American Film industry s rise to dominance by
the 1950s.
Birth of Film:
As with all things it s probably best to start with the beginning; the birth of film. Eadweard Muybridge
was hired in 1872 to capture images of a horse running to settle a debate as to whether all four feet of
a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. Little did he know that by capturing these
images he eventually would spark the invention of the kinetscope by Thomas Edison in the 1880s.
By the late 1890s movies could be projected onto a screen and audiences finally were able to attend
public demonstrations. In 1905 the world s first nickelodeon devoted to film exhibition was opened in
Pittsburgh, PA by Harry Davis. Nickelodeons (named for both the price of admission and the Greek
word for theater ) soon spread across the country, the number of nickelodeons reached around 8000
between 1907 and 1908, and by 1910 it was estimated that as many as 26 million Americans visited
these theaters every week.
World War I:
From about 1910 American

convinced me that english should be the official language nation is when he said Speaking English is a

Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo is because his overall career stats are much better than

The Brother Grimms Version Of Rapunzel
The Brother Grimms version of Rapunzel tells the story of a girl who was taken from her family as

perspective, it becomes apparent that Rapunzel is a character that is given no choices of her own. She
is forced to follow all of the enchantress instructions and is not able to live her own life until a male
character enters to save her. Rapunzel was taken by the enchantress as soon as her mother had given
birth to her. She was taken away due to the fact that her father had given her up due to fear in a certain
situation. Right off the bat of this story, both Rapunzel and her mother are treated as objects. The
father completely disregards the fact that Rapunzel is a human being and she is his and his wife s

Sociological Theories For Deviance Fall Under The Concept...
According to sociologist Edwin Lemert, the majority of sociological theories for deviance fall under
the concept of primary deviance. However, Lemert considered secondary deviance to be more
important. Everyone is guilty of primary deviance. However, this does not mean that they perceive
themselves to be a bad person. This is perception is where secondary deviance comes in. With
secondary deviance, the individual, is labeled by the act of deviance that they committed, whether it is
by themselves or by others. Eventually, this label is accepted by the individual, as a part of their
identity. While primary deviance consists of an act that takes up a small amount of time in a person s
existence, secondary deviance is something that sticks with the individual for the long term.
Potentially, this type of deviance can stick with an individual for the rest of their lives. There are two
different theories that can compare and contrast how a concept such as secondary deviance can gain a
foothold in an individual s life. These two theories are the differential association theory and the
control theory.
The differential association theory touts deviance as something that is learned. It is learned through the
inter personal relationships and influences that an individual has with those close to them.
Furthermore, the theory declares that learning deviance is similar to, if not identical to, learning
anything else. With the differential association theory, the individual is taking a

My Home Culture Essay
Has My Home Culture Prepared Me for Work Life Culture?
By Drew Jenkins U5880443
Powerful tools include the use of coercion, threats, punishment, and any other means necessary to
achieve teamwork. Dr. Clayton Christiansen describes how it can be used to mold children as well as
in a corporation. In my parents house, this was their choice when my siblings and I were out of line. It
would usually start with a series of threats. When threats were not taken seriously, it would be
followed by immediate punishment. Dr. Christiansen in his HBR article, How Will You Measure Your
Life? explains that these tools shaped a culture with some significant traits. The three traits developed
from my home culture are dependability, integrity, and perseverance. Being dependable is a great trait
for my work life culture. It was established through a series of constant responsibility placed on me by
my parents. My eldest brother was always at work, and would not get back till early in the morning.
This caused the responsibilities of him to fall to me. In a household of nine you really had to pull your
own weight, plus any excess that could relieve stress off my parents. It was the consistent need to help
out with younger siblings that caused a birth of dependence. In other words, every action I made was

Characteristics Of The False Prophet
ix is the number of man, therefore, we have named this chapter, the six signs of the false prophet.
There are more, of course, but we have chosen major and consistent characteristic that follow false
prophets. We must interject that many prophets are not false, but fleshly. They lack maturity,
discipline, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and a strong knowledge of the written word of God. Many
have not died to their flesh. Others sadly lack in humility and have allowed their gifts to exclude them
from accountability.
Furthermore, we must understand that we are all false at some time or another. No one is infallible
except the Lord. The false prophet is one who has escape divine discipline and fallen headlong into the
ditch of deception. Here is the Lord s warning concerning the emergence of the false prophets as His
return approaches. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall arise
false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were
possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:11, 24). Let us make this point clear. If you are
a true prophet of the Lord, you certainly will be called false at some point in your ministry. The
servant is no greater than his master is. If they called our Lord false, a man perfect in every respect,
then assuredly, you will be called the same.
Consequently, every prophet must make your calling and election sure, that is you must know who
you are in God,

Melba Beals and Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier by playing on a white ball team and going to
a white school as blacks.
Melba Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine to go to a white school as a black. When Melba and the
little rock nine first tried to go in the school segregation mobs had forbidden them to go. As Beals said
in the text I saw them about fifty uniformed soldiers of the 101st. This shows that just because they
did not make it in the first time they will make it in the second time. Despite all of the time they
wasted and still could not get in, they still went back every day until they were led in by soldiers. But

Classification
Classification Essay
There are three types of drivers in this world: competent, overcautious, and reckless. After driving for
many years in frustrating rush hour traffic, one might find there are three types of drivers, competent
drivers who keep the flow going, over cautious drivers who cause slow and backed up traffic, and
reckless drivers who weave in and out of traffic causing one near death experience after another.
Trying to sort out what type of driver a person might be is an extremely challenging task. In a person s
own mind, they think they are the aggressive type of driver, or the cautious type, but no one will ever
admit that they are reckless kind. In most cases they re too oblivious to these classifications and all

A final classification of an overcautious driver would be one who was previously in bad accident.
Feeling the mental and financial sting of having to buy a whole new car really puts things into
perspective, but hinders them on the road.
Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man or
woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving in and
out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur when a
competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver. Stereotypically this
driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no set age or sex. They get so
angry for the smallest of reasons that they don t really care what they do as a result, so long as they go
out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and have no qualms about risking
their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely apply the brake when coming to a
stop, more like tap tap and go . My uncle Jim is a prime example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82,
he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions
to those around him. Try telling him to ease up or look out, and he s bound to increase the gas flow to
his V8 engine.
After driving for many

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and
vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see
how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the
farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to
the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of
baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister
Goggles (eye protection)
Measuring tools
Methods:
1. Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm
2. Put 10mL vinegar in film canister
3. Measure baking soda, place in paper towel and fold it up
4. Put paper towel in canister and snap the lid on
5. Shake and point forward

The first rocket I shot went a length of 400cm. The canister rocket leaked vinegar and did not launch
until someone touched it. My second time shooting the canister rocket it did not launch due to the
leakage of vinegar. Although, another group with the same amount of baking soda had a length of
268cm. The last time I shot the 5mL rocket I got a length of 572cm. This rocket did not take as long to
shoot and had less leakage than the other two times. The average of the baking soda rockets in trial A
without 0cm would be 486cm, but with the other group s length it would be

Time Traveler
Wells purposely uses a first person frame narration to leave a more profound impression upon the
reader. The embedded narrator serves to connect with the readers in a way that the Time Traveller
(TT) cannot, he distances readers from the TT and, by doing so leaves them sceptical of the
ambiguous and fictional nature of the story. In the extract, the narrator reveals that the TT s character
cannot be understood easily, since he is not an average human but one of those men who are too clever
to be believed... [and] had more than a touch of whim among his elements (Wells 11). It is disclosed
that the TT s motives could not be perceived by anyone, suggesting that perhaps he is not meant to be
understood by anyone, be it the narrator himself or the readers.
Possessing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator has not seen the future himself, he is bound by time and only has second hand knowledge
of the events experienced by the TT giving rise to doubt regarding the truthfulness of the story. How
are the readers to know that TT is telling the truth, and how do they know that the narrator is telling
the story exactly as he was told not adding his own perspective. The narrator explicitly tells us that the
TT is not trusted by even his friends. His late arrival to the dinner party in a dishevelled state could be
explained in other ways than time travel that make sense. The narrator might well suspect that the TT
is staging a hoax like he did earlier the ghost [he] showed us last Christmas (Wells 11) which is now
acknowledged as a trick (11). The fact that the Traveller enjoys pranks and practical jokes further
creates doubt in readers minds regarding the Traveller s reliability as a narrator and thus the reliability

My Hero Is My Father
This image shows that a hero is someone of great honor; a hero can be anyone as long as they do what
is right. A hero is someone with great integrity and will help their fellow man. A hero is someone who
saves the day; they are the ones who work to ensure that their life s work improves the lives of those
around them. A hero is the person who sacrifices for the greater good; they sacrifice their lives,
money, and time to make for the greater good. They sacrifice themselves to cause the betterment of
circumstances for all. My hero is my dad, because of the sacrifices he has made. His influence upon

perfectly fine within fifteen minutes. My father is a man of great integrity and ability who will literally
give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He is why I am alive today and countless others in our
community. My experience with these characteristics with my father are more unnoticeable, but one
such image that stands out in my mind, is the countless trauma calls he has taken me on. One such
experience was the night, a man, broke his leg to the point that it was next to his head. The man was
severely drunk and kept trying to leave, my father struggled with the man until he calmed down
enough that they could help him. He struggled with many people that night, trying to provide proper
care, even while the man s friends tried to impede him at every turn. His effort in helping that man,
even though they were belligerent and idiotic is why he is a

Essay on Let It Snow
Let It Snow Evaluation
David Sedaris essay, Let It Snow is a reflection of Sedaris past. A single day from his childhood in
North Carolina where Sedaris and his siblings were home due to school being closed for few days
because of bad weather. The story reflects solely on the relationship that Sedaris mother had with him
and his sisters, and how it was affected by her drinking problem. Although the story revolved around
the children the mother was the main character. The mother in the story is very strict sounding and
harsh. Yelling Get the hell out of my house (Quoted in Sedaris 89) to the children is supporting proof.
She seemed to be an in the closet alcoholic who couldn t control her stress and emotions. It s easy to ...

This shows that the relationship with the mother and kids was very unstable in a way. The children
then went out their way to pull a prank out in the street and risk Tiffany, the youngest sibling s life.
This was very dangerous but the children did not give off any fear from attempting the act.
By the end of the essay the children are happy to see their mother again when she appears. You can
tell they have a lot of concern for the mother despite her actions due to them attempting to find her
lost loafer. Sedaris goes on to say This is how things went. One moment she was locking us out of our
own house and the next we were rooting around in the snow, looking for her left shoe (Quoted in
Sedaris 90). Possibly because they just didn t want to be outside anymore. No; this shows that these
types of situations have occurred before and that the children still love their mother. Sedaris David
Sedaris is a playwright and a regular commentator for National Public Radio. He is also the author of
the bestselling Barrel Fever, Naked, Holidays on Ice, Dress Your Family in Corduroy, Denim, When
You Are Engulfed in Flames and Me Talk Pretty One Day. Let It Snow is only one of Sedaris many
humorous stories that he has written. It has been said that his work is consistent and from reading
several webpages it states that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers
addressing the human condition today .

How Did Paris Change Throughout The 19th Century
Paris today is known as the city of lights. Full of opportunity and adventure, this city has a wonderful
reputation as an amazing home to some and tourist attraction to others. There are many facets of the
city that have helped to build the great reputation that Paris holds, and if it was not for the rich history
that this city has, it would not be the admirable city that it is today. Throughout the late 18th and 19th
centuries, many different obstacles arose for the city of Paris. From 1789 to 1891, Paris overcame a
great deal, some of which included The Terror, the reign of Napoleon I and III, and The Commune.
Many pieces of literature were published during this time and aided in explaining these circumstances
in the City of Paris. Through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Napoleon III was still in power, but during this time, Paris transformed into the Paris that many know
today. In Emile Zola s The Belly of Paris, is set in Les Halles, which is the central market in Paris
during the 19th century. A major theme in this novel which also helps to describe how Paris changes
during this century is the struggle between the fat and the thin. Unlike today, Paris viewed fat people
as wealthy and privileged, because they were obviously able to afford luxurious foods. Thin people,
on the contrary, were viewed as poverty stricken people who could not afford to eat. Zola describes
the main character, Florent: No, hunger had never left him. He wracked his brains, but could not recall
a single moment when his stomach had felt full. He had become dry and withered; his stomach
seemed to have shrunk; his skin clung to his bones (Zola 12). Unfortunately, 19th century Paris had a
large divide between the rich and the poor and it was visible by how fat or thin people were. Although
Florent had just arrived in Paris after escaping his arrest, this quote perfectly describes how poverty
affected society in 19th century Paris. In addition, this novel also helps to describe the terrible
working and living conditions of the poor during this time. A particular family s living conditions is
described: It was in the cellars under the poultry market that they found a way of continuing to sleep
together. Near the slaughtering blocks were some big baskets of feather in which they could stretch
out... Usually they would drag their basket away from the gaslight; they were alone in the strong smell
of poultry, kept awake by the sudden crowning of the cocks in the dark (Zola 161). This couple went
to what seems to be the ends of the earth to find a somewhat comfortable sleeping situation, although
it is still very bad.

  • 2. The Effects Of Illegal Immigrants On The United States There are millions of illegal immigrants in the United States, as Markon (2016) argues that the majority are from South and Central America, Europe, and Mexico. They form a population of between 10 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. One of these illegal is my father, who came to the U.S.A in 1996 to work and tried to pay the numerous debts that he got in my country; in addition, my country had a large concern where there weren t jobs and several banks had gone broke because of the change from Sucre to the dollar. At that time, my father thought the only solution was to come to get that money. My father, there are other undocumented immigrants that came from the same situation or for other reasons to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... James (1991) points out that illegal made various effects to be legal, such as creating fake documents like Social Security or green cards, and faking marriage. All those affairs are called fraud, and they can be deported directly without any opportunity to get a trial. Anti immigration supports comment that the problem with undocumented immigrant workers is that flouting the law has become the norm. (Miller, 2010). Another reason why people support deportation is because some illegals come as criminals and cross the border to damage the country. According to James (1991) says some of illegals cross the border to bring drugs like cocaine, heroin, and marijuana, or do illicit things. The drugs, which a lot of Americans consume, come from South America to Mexico. Where a drug dealer produces, then and sends them to the U.S.A. In the 1990 s the maximum portion of the drugs came from Mexico, where drug traffickers passed the drugs through the river that is between Mexico and the U.S.A (James, 1991). These acts have created the increase of crime and violence and have made it unsafe peacefully to live for the citizens and for the life of the members of the Border Patrol by illegal border crossers (James, 1991). However, not all undocumented immigrants cause a harmful effect and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bram Stoker’S 1897 Novel Dracula Is Far From Being A Simple Bram Stoker s 1897 novel Dracula is far from being a simple penny dreadful in which good triumphs evil; instead it is a story of contradictions. The Count himself is one of them; he is both living and dead. Stoker creates this awkward and anxiety inducing contradictions not only in the Count but within Victorian era itself. In this time of enlightenment, superstition and science are constantly shown to be intertwined in a way that seems to bewilder the characters as much it does the audience. Stoker depicts the characters hunting Dracula relying on both modernity and superstition to successfully defeat Dracula, Stoker illustrates the failure of relying only on modern thinking. While initially refusing to believe in the myth surrounding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The quick sending of messages was also necessary in tracking the vampire. In the scene where they learned that the Count was aboard a boat in his voyage to Transylvania, Arthur has telegrams sent to him daily to keep tabs on its whereabouts. Telegrams were also sent between Lucy s suitors so that Van Helsing can use them for blood transfusions. The transfusions are also modern technology; with them they were able to prolong the life of Lucy long enough so that Van Helsing could connect the dots. The use of modern technologies was crucial to successfully hunting the Count. Without the modern construct of social class the group wouldn t have been able to afford the latest technology. The high social ranking did blind them from the superstition which would be fairly common for a person from a lesser social ranking to believe in. The characters thought process through the situations that occurred prior to them brutality killing Lucy s vampire corpse was strongly correlated to their social class. They were mostly professional, wealthy, and young men who regarded the superstition as something that the unknowledgeable feared. In the scene where Van Helsing discovers that Lucy has risen from the dead and begun to feed on the local town s children. Dr. Seward and the rest of the group initial didn t believe in Van Helsing s theory that Lucy was a blood thirsty vampire . • 4. The Longworth House Office Building, Thomas Jefferson... What I would like to point out especially is its capital. The building has capitals with two volutes, which was very common in the Ionic order. Each column consists of the capital, shaft, and base, which is analogous to the basic form of the Ionic order. The most important feature of the Ionic order is the frieze, which is usually carved with relief sculpture arranged in a continuous pattern around the building (Hemingway, 2003). However, the feature was not applied to this building. Both in the Doric and the Ionic, the column are fluted but these columns have smooth surfaces. During my research, I found that many architectures identified as the Ionic order style, actually have smooth surface columns as well (ex. the Longworth House Office Building, Thomas Jefferson Memorial). Various architectural designs that the Western society has adopted demonstrates how heavily they are influenced by the Ancient Greek culture and the Roman culture. During those eras, the buildings were intended to communicate its function to the viewer automatically. Known as architecture parlante (which literally meant speaking architecture ), its purpose was to explain its identity to the viewer. The term used for ... • 5. Statement For Sop For Electronics Today, the world is dominated by the field of electronics. Innovative ideas are coming into existence in our day to day life. Electronics plays a key role in the organization of any system under consideration. This trait of electronics extends into a broader scope. Thus, pursuing a career in the electronics field is my goal. Thus, Masters in Electrical Engineering with Electronics as the major is an apt choice to reach my goal. My interest in Electronics sprouted from my childhood days. When I was five, I always had the habit of breaking remote cars and planes, and explore what is actually present inside. Governing the operations of the car or television by a remote from a distance was an enigmatic concept to visualize at that stage. So, what actually constitutes the design of the remote was a question that always been pondering my mind. It is the small electronic design that controls the entire operation. Thus this habit went on up to the extent that , I developed the hobby of breaking all the worn out gadgets and goods such as laptop chargers, cell phones etc. and have a collection of electronic design present in those gadgets. • 7. Why Do People Join Organized Religion Question 1 I honestly think that people, in general, want to feel a sense of belonging and that there is something greater than themselves guiding us through our day to day lives. In many instances, people believe in a God/Entity because it is a part of their culture and is held in high regard. Both in years past to present religion has played a major role in the way we as people view ourselves and each other. An example of why people join an organized religion would be for the purpose of social status. An example of that I would say is Scientology. From the outside looking in it really looks like this group is particularly seeking out the rich and famous to join the church. There are Scientology churches that are specifically for their rich and famous members to attend. Yet the less fortunate members are treated with less grandeur. That really seems like it s all about the status/money the church gains from its members and the status the members gain by joining this church. I bring this up because the original idea of joining a religion was to worship the most high and to learn to live by the rules set forth for its follower. The majority of believers are believers because the religion was handed down to them and they genuinely feel that the belief and practices are right for them and their families. Some individuals would say what is church or religion itself, isn t it all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sassen states that, Research covering the last two and even three decades shows sharp increases in socioeconomic and spatial inequalities within major cities of the developed world and now increasingly also in cities of the global South (Sassen, 241). With the rise of global cities and an increase in socioeconomic inequalities comes gentrification. Since the mid 1970 s there has been economic and social transformation in the economy in terms of specific form of urban labor (Sassen, 246). A key shift is the change in occupational and industrial employment which has also seen a shift in balance. Sassen states that, Such shifts directly affect the mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability, and the types of careers available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility leads to an increase in flexible employment and precarious work. This means that there is an increase in part time jobs that include no regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly unstable for the employee. With this also comes the rise of jobs paying under the poverty level. This affects different cities because workers under the poverty level can not maintain a middle class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle. Instead of having more areas of middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between high and low. An example of this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail, which means that there is large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in the middle. Aside from retail, labor markets in cities are also structures around sets of jobs that are very particular (Sassen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Umar Abdullah Johnson Theory of Black Male Alienation posits that a five stage cycle of institutional repression exists that has effectively sent more black men to jail than it has to college. Any attempt to reverse this war against America s most misunderstood population begins with a firm analysis of the process and its origins in boyhood. Americans, including Blacks, have become so desensitized to the pain of Black boys and so expectant of their failures that their pain is often overlooked and their achievements treated like occasional glitches in a system that has successfully made Black boys a permanent underclass in this country. But the color of a Negro s skin makes him easily recognizable, makes him suspect, converts him into a defenseless target (Richard Wright, Black Boy) Mis education often begins at birth. The average first day of life for Black children is when they become subjected to self hatred and self hating messages about themselves. They re often getting messages about themselves that is directly or indirectly coming from the white culture. From the first day they are brought into this world, the mis education and the self hatred towards our babies starts right then and there. It starts to increase in preschool because in preschool, for those that decide to send their child to preschool, this will be the first time that the Black boy comes face to face with the School guidelines of the American social order where he is expected to preform to ... By comparing the three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States. Throughout the episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy to see that Carla and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because that is where they are comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes them happy. Ross and Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely happy when they finally are. In all three episodes, it was implied that at least one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are still attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who they claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla s case in Scrubs. They engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work comes first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is paged. However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends, Ross was against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn t a big fan of magic, but went to the castle with Gus anyways. • 13. The Emotional Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner Boom, boom, boom. Mommy, that one is my favorite! Screams a blonde haired, blue eyed five year old little girl as fireworks screech into the midnight sky over the crystal blue lake on the Fourth of July. Nearly two hundred and forty years ago our beloved land was born, gaining independence from Great Britain and declaring America as its own. From that day forward July Fourth would be celebrated with parades, festivals, and get togethers across the nation. Red, white, and blue blanketing towns, patriotic music blaring through speakers, and fireworks shooting into the night sky, all to celebrate the birth of our nation. Across America no matter what day it is, the Star Spangled Banner flies high, to represent the passion and love Americans have for their homeland; however, present day issues are rivaling the foundation our Founding Fathers built the Untied States around. Francis Scott Key sat across the from Fort McHenry the night after the town was bombarded by British militaries. (history.com) Looking upon the burning city in Maryland, he found himself deeply inspired by the flag that stood waving gracefully in the smoke filled sky. Galvanized by the sight Key wrote the poem that would soon stand alone in America and named the anthem that plays before every social event in America. The Star Spangled Banner was a tribute to all the fallen soldiers in the battles between the British and American troops that led to our independence. Francis Scott Key wrote, Oh say does ... In the Texans 30 0 blowout loss to Kansas City, Houston failed to establish an effective running game behind running back Alfred Blue, and Texans quarterback Hoyer never got in a rhythm throwing the ball. Hoyer completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw four interceptions against the Chiefs as Kansas City limited the Texans primary source of offense this season, star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. With subpar signal callers on Houston s roster, the Texans dearly missed Foster s elite talent and dynamic ability out of the backfield down the stretch of the season. Arkansas Razorbacks running back Alex Collins could be that guy. Collins, a hard nosed runner with a bruising style, could fit well into the Texans system and his skill set could complement Foster s shiftiness. If Foster continues to show up on the injury report, Houston could begin to transition the talented tailback to more of a third down role. Both the two texts follow the The Hero s Journey story structure (also known as a monomyth), featuring the distinct departure, initiation and return phases and many of the twelve steps associated, thereby establishing an intertextual link. Both main characters embark on a journey, witness the death of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their enemies, transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King s story of Simba s rise to succeed his father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a child into an adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the responsibilities associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the protagonist, Simba, has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon, throughout his entire life detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well beyond having matured into an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows his struggles against an unideal future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond adulthood represents the eastern cultural attitude towards growing up that suggests a person s growth doesn t end at adulthood but ... Planning determines how much time will be spent on a task, what methods to use, what resources are needed, organization, what needs focused attention, etc. Monitoring is checking with yourself to see how you are doing. • 18. Motivation and Achievement Where does the term motivation come from? Is it from within an individual s mindset or is it the dedication that an individual has that tends to be certain when a task is needs to be completed that it is done is a positive manner? I believe that humans as a species are motivated in some form or fashion based upon the degree of what motivates them. It can be from money motivating sales associates, recognition from the upper management, or even someone being motivated to move forward and succeed for the family that they live every day for. From childhood I always felt the need to impress my grandfather, the man who always pushed me to move positively in everything that I did. I knew then that the encouragement and the support that was provided always by him kept me wanting to finish the challenges that life handed to me. In high school being on the basketball team for my own pleasure and for those moments to see his smile no matter how hard I played or what I did wrong in the game he always let me know how proud he was of me. As I grew older and had my own family I knew how blessed I was to be able to live my life for my children, keep working to provide a better life for them, earn more money for bonuses so that I am able to get some of the finer things that life provides without giving up. Even making this final decision to attend school, work full time and stay committed as a mother despite how hard it sometimes can be and how it easy it is to give up, I continue for my ... • 21. The Menace Of Materialism In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary The Menace of Materialism Written by Gustave Flaubert and published in 1856, Madame Bovary tells a story about the life and death of Emma Bovary, a middle class woman living in mid nineteenth century France. This novel is known as one of the best examples of literary realism ever written, and for good reason. Through his writing and attention to detail, Flaubert does an excellent job of giving the reader an idea of just how mundane everyday life was like in France during the mid nineteenth century. Through the various characters in the novel, Flaubert is also able to portray many positive and negative characteristics he saw in the people living during this time. Of the many different characteristics and ideas that Flaubert uses to describe characters throughout the novel, I think that the many aspects he saw in the bourgeoisie class and materialism are uniquely important. I believe that the ways Flaubert uses the ideas and issues of materialism and similar principles he saw in the bourgeoisie to tell the story of Madame Bovary, to criticize the bourgeoisie, as well as show how harmful and destructive he believed these issues could be to a society. The historical context of the time that Flaubert lived in is a likely reason for his use of the bourgeoisie materialistic ideas. In the time period that Gustave Flaubert worked on Madame Bovary, the bourgeoisie were considered to be a very large class. The overall theme of the essay illustrates the lack of responsibility for dog owners have for their pets as they run ramped through dog free zones. Manjoo deeply expresses his opinion, although lacks some key supporting points and formulates mostly upon personal bias. With that in mind, I strongly disagree with the author and believe that his main points does not accurately portray the issue related to dogs. ........... To begin with, Manjoo s arguments against dogs and their owners don t appear logical and rather sound more as a rant in attempt to get his point across. More specifically, I found Manjoo s arguments rather abrupt towards the beginning while he stated his one sided opinion, rather than considering and addressing those who many disagree with him. In doing so, Manjoo may have attracted a portion of the audience of who agrees with him, while he only repels those with a neutral or positive view towards dogs, with his negative and irrational tone. For instance, when Manjoo stated No explanation was offered for the pooch s presence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world to have a dog in a place usually reserved for human beings. This is where her dancing experience would technically begin, as the students had interpretive dancing three times per week. In 1916, Graham enrolled into the Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn School of Dance in Los Angeles. The school taught ballet, ethnic dance, music, codified dramatic gestures, makeup, lighting, costumes, dance history, Greek philosophy, and yoga and meditation. At age 22, Martha had a late start for training, yet was still serious and intent on becoming a prestigious dancer. Martha s body was very supple and strong and had the ability to project most every dramatic movement. She had an extremely flexible body and was very small yet often appeared to be taller. She was also very disciplined and precise. Ruth ultimately was unimpressed by Graham s abilities, yet Shawn was drawn to her diligence and memory of the steps and movements. • 27. An Analytical And Conceptual Framework On The Possibility... CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION This thesis explores an analytical and conceptual framework on the possibility of employee ownership influence on organizational loyalty as it applies to the modus operandi of John Lewis Partnership. There are divergent views about the influence of employee ownership on organizational loyalty. Research suggests that ownership may influence organizational loyalty (e.g. Taylor, 2011) but it is not completely clear how, thereby prompting various researches and scientific experimentation on the subject matter. Scholars (e.g. Lampel et al, 2010) reviewing the performance differences between companies that practice employee ownership framework and other forms, like State owned Enterprises (SOE) have provisioned mixed results. On the average, these investigation by various scholars and academia opined that employee ownership and privatization usually results in improved loyalty and financial performance (e.g., Andrew and Dowling (1998); Martin and Parker (1997), Lioukas and Kouremenos (1989)). The process of employee ownership, involving all business activities and functions associated with exploitation and opportunities identification (Bygrave and Hofer, 1991; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000), have spawned considerable interests from practitioners and academics. For in war, soldiers and civilians alike have suffered severely, and combat has put everyone who is involved to a true test of character. An example of the tests of war is found by looking at Germany s failed attack on the Russian city of Stalingrad during World War II. In the fight over Stalingrad, there are examples that demonstrate the struggles that both Russian and German soldiers faced. The Russians, for example, had to fortify themselves first in the buildings of Stalingrad then in the rubble of these same buildings as they watched their city crumble. However, the Russian s determination and reinforcements changed the tide of the battle, and the German forces ultimately found themselves surrounded by the Russians without necessary war supplies The Russian s determination to hold Stalingrad is probably best seen in this entry in the war diary of the Russian 62nd Army on October 14, 1942, 1220: radio message from unit of 416th Regiment from hexagonal block of flats: Surrounded; have water and cartridges; will die rather than surrender (qtd. in The Long Agony, 883). In the following essay we are going to discuss why I believe that the wars faced both foreign and domestic played the biggest factor in the American Film industry s rise to dominance by the 1950s. Birth of Film: As with all things it s probably best to start with the beginning; the birth of film. Eadweard Muybridge was hired in 1872 to capture images of a horse running to settle a debate as to whether all four feet of a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. Little did he know that by capturing these images he eventually would spark the invention of the kinetscope by Thomas Edison in the 1880s. By the late 1890s movies could be projected onto a screen and audiences finally were able to attend public demonstrations. • 38. Sociological Theories For Deviance Fall Under The Concept... According to sociologist Edwin Lemert, the majority of sociological theories for deviance fall under the concept of primary deviance. However, Lemert considered secondary deviance to be more important. Everyone is guilty of primary deviance. However, this does not mean that they perceive themselves to be a bad person. This is perception is where secondary deviance comes in. With secondary deviance, the individual, is labeled by the act of deviance that they committed, whether it is by themselves or by others. Eventually, this label is accepted by the individual, as a part of their identity. While primary deviance consists of an act that takes up a small amount of time in a person s existence, secondary deviance is something that sticks with the individual for the long term. Potentially, this type of deviance can stick with an individual for the rest of their lives. There are two different theories that can compare and contrast how a concept such as secondary deviance can gain a foothold in an individual s life. These two theories are the differential association theory and the control theory. The differential association theory touts deviance as something that is learned. It is learned through the inter personal relationships and influences that an individual has with those close to them. Furthermore, the theory declares that learning deviance is similar to, if not identical to, learning anything else. With the differential association theory, the individual is taking a ... • 39. My Home Culture Essay Has My Home Culture Prepared Me for Work Life Culture? By Drew Jenkins U5880443 Powerful tools include the use of coercion, threats, punishment, and any other means necessary to achieve teamwork. Dr. Clayton Christiansen describes how it can be used to mold children as well as in a corporation. In my parents house, this was their choice when my siblings and I were out of line. It would usually start with a series of threats. When threats were not taken seriously, it would be followed by immediate punishment. Dr. Christiansen in his HBR article, How Will You Measure Your Life? explains that these tools shaped a culture with some significant traits. The three traits developed from my home culture are dependability, integrity, and perseverance. Being dependable is a great trait for my work life culture. It was established through a series of constant responsibility placed on me by my parents. My eldest brother was always at work, and would not get back till early in the morning. This caused the responsibilities of him to fall to me. In a household of nine you really had to pull your own weight, plus any excess that could relieve stress off my parents. It was the consistent need to help out with younger siblings that caused a birth of dependence. In other words, every action I made was no longer just about myself, but for also the ... • 40. Characteristics Of The False Prophet ix is the number of man, therefore, we have named this chapter, the six signs of the false prophet. There are more, of course, but we have chosen major and consistent characteristic that follow false prophets. We must interject that many prophets are not false, but fleshly. They lack maturity, discipline, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and a strong knowledge of the written word of God. Many have not died to their flesh. Others sadly lack in humility and have allowed their gifts to exclude them from accountability. Furthermore, we must understand that we are all false at some time or another. No one is infallible except the Lord. The false prophet is one who has escape divine discipline and fallen headlong into the ditch of deception. Here is the Lord s warning concerning the emergence of the false prophets as His return approaches. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:11, 24). Let us make this point clear. If you are a true prophet of the Lord, you certainly will be called false at some point in your ministry. The servant is no greater than his master is. If they called our Lord false, a man perfect in every respect, then assuredly, you will be called the same. Consequently, every prophet must make your calling and election sure, that is you must know who you are in God, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Life Changing Events Essay Life changing events can sometimes be difficult. In the stories I Never Had it Made, By Jackie Robinson Warriors Don t Cry By Melba Patillo Beals and The Father of Chinese Aviation. By Rebecca Maskel. Melba Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru all experienced life changing events that impacted their lives. If you did not know these people went through danger to break segregation. Melba Beals and Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier by playing on a white ball team and going to a white school as blacks. Melba Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine to go to a white school as a black. When Melba and the little rock nine first tried to go in the school segregation mobs had forbidden them to go. As Beals said in the text I saw them about fifty uniformed soldiers of the 101st. This shows that just because they did not make it in the first time they will make it in the second time. Despite all of the time they wasted and still could not get in, they still went back every day until they were led in by soldiers. But the main people who gave support to them are their parents and neighbors and also the ministers of their church. As said in the text I recognized neighbors and even ministers from our church. (Beals) This shows that they have plenty support as they walk up the steps of the school and enter the school. Melba s experiences with breaking the color barrier shows that she feels proud for what she had accomplished. She and the little rock nine were given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Classification Classification Essay There are three types of drivers in this world: competent, overcautious, and reckless. After driving for many years in frustrating rush hour traffic, one might find there are three types of drivers, competent drivers who keep the flow going, over cautious drivers who cause slow and backed up traffic, and reckless drivers who weave in and out of traffic causing one near death experience after another. Trying to sort out what type of driver a person might be is an extremely challenging task. In a person s own mind, they think they are the aggressive type of driver, or the cautious type, but no one will ever admit that they are reckless kind. In most cases they re too oblivious to these classifications and all other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A final classification of an overcautious driver would be one who was previously in bad accident. Feeling the mental and financial sting of having to buy a whole new car really puts things into perspective, but hinders them on the road. Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man or woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving in and out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur when a competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver. Stereotypically this driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no set age or sex. They get so angry for the smallest of reasons that they don t really care what they do as a result, so long as they go out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and have no qualms about risking their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely apply the brake when coming to a stop, more like tap tap and go . My uncle Jim is a prime example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82, he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions to those around him. Try telling him to ease up or look out, and he s bound to increase the gas flow to his V8 engine. After driving for many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Baking Soda Experiment Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar Introduction: A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot. Materials: Paper towel Vinegar Baking Soda Film canister Goggles (eye protection) Measuring tools Methods: 1. Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm 2. You can tell they have a lot of concern for the mother despite her actions due to them attempting to find her lost loafer. Sedaris goes on to say This is how things went. One moment she was locking us out of our own house and the next we were rooting around in the snow, looking for her left shoe (Quoted in Sedaris 90). • 50. How Did Paris Change Throughout The 19th Century Paris today is known as the city of lights. Full of opportunity and adventure, this city has a wonderful reputation as an amazing home to some and tourist attraction to others. There are many facets of the city that have helped to build the great reputation that Paris holds, and if it was not for the rich history that this city has, it would not be the admirable city that it is today. Throughout the late 18th and 19th centuries, many different obstacles arose for the city of Paris. From 1789 to 1891, Paris overcame a great deal, some of which included The Terror, the reign of Napoleon I and III, and The Commune. Many pieces of literature were published during this time and aided in explaining these circumstances in the City of Paris. Through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Napoleon III was still in power, but during this time, Paris transformed into the Paris that many know today. In Emile Zola s The Belly of Paris, is set in Les Halles, which is the central market in Paris during the 19th century. A major theme in this novel which also helps to describe how Paris changes during this century is the struggle between the fat and the thin. Unlike today, Paris viewed fat people as wealthy and privileged, because they were obviously able to afford luxurious foods. Thin people, on the contrary, were viewed as poverty stricken people who could not afford to eat. Zola describes the main character, Florent: No, hunger had never left him. He wracked his brains, but could not recall a single moment when his stomach had felt full. He had become dry and withered; his stomach seemed to have shrunk; his skin clung to his bones (Zola 12). Unfortunately, 19th century Paris had a large divide between the rich and the poor and it was visible by how fat or thin people were. Although Florent had just arrived in Paris after escaping his arrest, this quote perfectly describes how poverty affected society in 19th century Paris. In addition, this novel also helps to describe the terrible working and living conditions of the poor during this time. A particular family s living conditions is described: It was in the cellars under the poultry market that they found a way of continuing to sleep together. Near the slaughtering blocks were some big baskets of feather in which they could stretch out... Usually they would drag their basket away from the gaslight; they were alone in the strong smell of poultry, kept awake by the sudden crowning of the cocks in the dark (Zola 161). This couple went to what seems to be the ends of the earth to find a somewhat comfortable sleeping situation, although it is still very bad. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
