The Epic Of Beowulf And The Anglo-Saxon Heros
Since the creation of man, there has been one thing that has always been consistent. That thing is the
yearning to acquire information and knowledge. For the majority of history, most people have not had
the privilege of being able to read. As a result, stories and information had to be passed down orally.
This is absolutely true when focusing on the history of the Anglo Saxons. The Anglo Saxons told
stories that were phantasmagoric and revolved around the concept of fate, also known as wyrd. There
is no piece of literature that accurately represents the Anglo Saxon way of telling stories that is better
than the epic of Beowulf. Beowulf is a story about a man who traveled from his motherland of
Geatland to Denmark which was being haunted by the demon Grendel. He ended up killing Grendel,
making Herot safe once again. He who had come to them from across the sea, bold and strong minded,
had driven affliction off, purged Herot clean [..] A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel ended the
grief, the sorrow, the suffering forced on Hrothgar s helpless people by the bloodthirsty fiend. No
Dane doubted the victory, for the proof, hanging high from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was
the monster s Arm, claw and shoulder and all (Beowulf 825 836). After it had been discovered that
Beowulf had killed the demon, the Danes boasted about him and rewarded him with gifts. Soon after
the death of Grendel, another demon had been awakened and had revenge in mind. The

Airborne Express Case Study 1
Executive summary
Airborne Express is the third largest and fastest growing international air express delivery company in
America. It held roughly 16% of the domestic express mail market by 1997. It provides time sensitive
delivery of documents, letters, small packages, and freight in the United States and internationally.
The company has several advantages over its rivals, such as it provides delivery services at a lower
cost of up to 20% over FedEx and UPS; it operates the nation s only privately owned foreign trade
zone in Wilmington; it is more flexible and provides more customer tailored services. It charges lower
price but still much guarantee delivery dates (not offered by the US Postal Service).

Competition: the US domestic express mail market is somewhat in an oligopoly status. The
competition among the big three is quite fierce. Yet normally FedEx and UPS lead the market. The six
other second tier players do not have any threats to the three major players.
The US Postal Service served much of the rest of the market. However, it has a limited popularity just
among residential customers because it is inefficient in package tracking and has a much worse on
time delivery record. It has a legal monopoly for first class letters. But the company is prohibited by
law from offering volume discounts to customers.
DHL and TNT focus on the international market and trans border shipments. DHL offer hard to reach
service since it has hubs in many other different places in the world. It has never invested heavily in
domestic market. TNT focuses its effort on Europe.
BAX Global focuses on heavy cargo. RPS does not offer overnight delivery. It focused on two day
delivery via a ground network. It is known for its efficient ground transportation and its sophisticated
information technology.
The traditional express industry is threatened by facsimile and electronic mails, which have zero cost.
Competition between FedEx and UPS has caused a lower price and more innovations. The industry is
quite consolidated and has a very high barrier to

Charge Of The Light Brigade
In the poem The Charge of the Light Brigade , written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, it tells a story about
a group of six hundred soldiers who rode into Death Valley under their commander, Major General
James Brudenell. No soldier was discouraged or questioned their commander, even though the
soldiers knew they were entering a death trap. The question to ask is; should there have been a
discussion about other tactics the soldiers could have used instead of going straight into their enemies
fire?
The poem explains what happened upon the event from the noble men beginning their march to the
last fallen. Within the first stanza, it states the six hundred soldiers rode horseback into the battle field
to retrieve their guns. In the next few stanzas,

The Importance of Language and Culture
The importance of language is a repeated trend throughout history. The lack of language weighs
negatively on an individual s intellect and the acquisition of language feeds the development of one s
cultural identity. The greatest historical conquest began in the realm of linguistic turmoil. Examples of
this are vast in the capturing of American Americans slaves, and injustice towards the Native
Americans on the home front. The captured people were taken from a variety of tribes speaking
different native tongues to insure communication barriers resulting in the slaves not being able to
overtake the ship or rally an uprising. The linguistic and cultural differences lead to the manipulation
of the semantics of agreements, which lead to many Native Americans to lose their land. The British
taken continentally instilled linguistic control over people from India to Southern Africa. British
forcefully mandated the educational system be taught in English therefore ultimately taking over the
languacultural acquisition of the continent of India s future. The pedagogy of language is connected to
perpetuation of culture, traditions, and social norms. The Deaf community is another example of the
importance of language acquisition throughout history. The impact of how a deaf child is educated
impacts more than that deaf child alone but also the future of the Deaf community and the
languaculture rich in American Sign Language. Classrooms mediate unique and diverse

Visual Analysis Of Hercules
Standing eight feet tall in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a marble statue of what is known as a
youthful Hercules. Sculpted during the Early Imperial period, with several restorations made in the
17th century, this Roman masterpiece dominates the room with its god like essence. Chiseled with
great detail, Hercules is holding a skinned lion in his left hand while his right hand is gripping a club
behind his back. This colorless statue stands with confidence and empowerment, capturing the
rhytmos of Hercules right after he kills the Nemean beast, transporting the viewer directly to the
scene, while at the same time also demonstrating Hercules emotional essence. Hercules is built as the
ideal man; his physical characteristics, pose, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pose also exemplifies Hercules calm and composed demeanor after killing the lion, as if to say that to

artist is able to pull the viewer into this moment by creating a balance of tension. Although, his facial
expression is stern due to killing a vicious beast, his sense of pride as the ideal man and a demigod are
heightened and can be seen by his calm and confident body

Medical Acronyms
In the English language, acronyms have begun to take on the same role as their common word
counterparts. Although they may initially be created to serve a purpose to a military or government,
they have been adapted to fit into everyday language. Whether it be medical professionals, avid sports
fans, or members of a certain generation, acronyms greatly contribute to group specific jargon.
In militaries, efficiency is highly valued. To prevent from having to repeat obscenely long phrases,
militaries frequently employ the use of acronyms. Due to this, many acronyms originate from the
military and trickle their way into the common language. For example, the acronym, ASAP ( as soon
as possible ) was first used by military forces to express urgent ... Show more content on

In the medical field, many procedures or conditions have acronyms that represent them. This allows
those in the medical community to trim down long medical terms and associate them with shorter
words that are much easier to remember. When used between those in the healthcare field, these words
do not pose a threat to the transferring of ideas, as both parties understand these words meanings.
However, if one party is an outsider of the medical field, the use of such acronyms could be
detrimental to the communication between the two. Because of this, many doctors avoid using
medical acronyms when conversing with a patient about matters of his or her health.
Among certain groups with common interests, acronyms have evolved to be used as jargon. The use of
such jargon often provides its users with a sense of belonging within a social circle. For example,
sometimes middle aged people may try to use initialisms that are popular with the younger generation
in an attempt to fit in and rekindle the flame of their former youth. Interestingly, when such attempts
are done incorrectly, it can often have the opposite effect and alienate the person from said group. This
alienation occurs because the person is perceived to be desperate and believed to not share common

First Component Of My Observation Assignment
On March 18, 2017, I began the first component of my observation assignment. In contemplating
where I was to do my observation, I wanted to find a location with a lot of people, a location that was
indoors, and a location that would provide me with a wide point of observation that would allow me to
peacefully and conspicuously observe people while taking notes in my notebook. As a result, I decided
on the second floor above the lounge area in the Santa Anita mall, located in Arcadia, CA, on a
Saturday afternoon. Prior to beginning my observation, I did not expect to be nervous, but as soon as I
parked in the parking lot and began making my way to my observation point with my notebook and

Furthermore, when people alter their behaviors, it sometimes becomes impossible to know when a
person is truly being themselves. This type of playing the part leads into the sociological theory
known as Dramaturgy. Dramaturgy was first theorized by Erving Goffman. Goffman believed that
people conduct themselves differently in different situations to appear in some way that is
advantageous, kind of like actors playing different characters in films. For instance, there was a group
of teenagers who were taking lots of pictures with each other. However, one boy was just off to the
side calmly looking at his friends. After a few minutes of this, his attitude completely changed, and he
jumped into one of the pictures with his friends and began taking more pictures. After they all took
pictures, they all left to another part of the mall, and this boy returned back to his calm self. This was a
perfect example of someone who was playing the part of appearing more social even though he may
not have actually felt that way. In addition, usually at in door stores and restaurants, dogs, or other

two women sat down below me in the lounge area. One of the women had a Golden Retriever, but it

International Trade Agreements And How Governmental...
This paper will discuss the benefits United States (U.S) had by engaging in international trade
agreements and how governmental influences benefitted trade. To regulate international trade between
nations, international trade agreements exist. These agreements involve regulating imports, exports
and international trade of some specialty goods. The United States have been involved in many
international trade agreements including free trade agreements. Free trade Agreements (FTA) helps the
United States to open up foreign markets for domestic firms. The agreements help to reduce barrier on
exports, ease trading across the border, improve economic growth, increase productivity, increase
employment opportunities, and boost agriculture exports. There are critical functions associated with
multilateral trading systems like World Trade Organization (WTO)/General Agreement on Tariffs and
Trade (GATT). Some of those critical functions are resolving disputes efficiently, create a better
trading environment, and preserve peace among countries. The initial sections of this paper will
discuss the benefits of international trade agreements for exports, imports, jobs, agriculture, and
economy.
Another topic that is discussed in this paper is governmental influences on trade and internal policies.
Governmental influences helped United States to reap benefits, from an economic and non economic
standpoint. There are political, economic and cultural reasons as well for the Government

his life and his reputation. Before the accident, Daniel had the dream life any teenage boy could ever

now. The story begins with the Brennans fleeing town. They packed all their belongings and left. They

brought him up always showing him what s wrong and what s right, what choices to make, and who to
trust. Being a parent means that you should always be in control of your children for as long as
possible. Daniel was said to be the type that needed guidance even though he came across as a strong
and independent. His mother knew this, but even she was scared of what he was capable of. When
times got rough the parents backed off and let him make his own choices. That wasn t the best move
to make. The parents might have shown love and affection to Daniel but they truly couldn t see what
was going on. If only they had paid enough attention to Daniel maybe they could witness how badly
he was coming off the rails. They could of helped him. Helped him to make the right choices. Tom
was angry that night. He was angry at his brother for making everything ten times worse than it should
be. Angry because he was so drunk. Angry that he couldn t do the right thing. Tom wanted Daniel

Essay on Alcoholism
Alcoholism Alcohol consumption was initiated on reservations when traders in the nineteenth century
started to offer it to oppressed and depressed Native Americans. Natives represent, in fact, the ethnic
group with the highest degree of alcohol consumption in the United States. Confinement on
reservations after displacement brought for Native Americans identity conflicts and assimilation
problems. This situation promoted the abuse of liquor to mitigate the psychological pain inflicted by
the dispossession of the land and enclosure in a limited and controlled space. Both the stereotype of
the Noble Savage and the drunken Indian are recurrent figures in mainstream literature of the US.

For instance: Tayo, Abel (House Made of Dawn), Gordie Kashpaw (Love Medicine) and the
characters of Winter in the Blood (mostly all characters of Welsh s fiction) present similar
characteristics as assimilated and alienated Indians: they have lost their Indianess as a result of their
mixed blood inheritance. Abel s alcoholism makes him react violently to tribal ways and, thus it takes
him to prison, charged with murder: For him (Abel) alcohol is no tranquilizer, but a fire that feeds his
sullen, speechless rage until he explodes in a violence that results in his near fatal beating by the
culebra policeman Martinez (Allen, 139 140). He will die understanding tribal ways but unable to deal
with the role they play in his mixed blood life. Tayo suffers post traumatic stress disorder as a
consequence of the death of his cousin and the horrors of war and finds consolation in drinking. But
Tayo s problems with alcohol started long before upon discovering his legacy and feeling tribal
rejection in a pattern started by his mother, a Laguna woman who, in mating with a white man, lost
her soul and life. Death found her alone, drunk and without shelter. Abel must get reconciled with his
past unless he wants to be found dead alone in an alley or frozen in a blizzard like June Morrisey in
Love Medicine or the father of the protagonist of Winter in the Blood. June became

in her church choir. From there her talent and fame only escalated. She came into the public s eye in
2004 when she auditioned and later won season 4 of American Idol earning her college credit towards
a Mass Communications degree that she graduated with shortly after her win ( Carrie Underwood

Underwood wrote the song along with Chris DeStefano and Brett James. The water in this song refers
to the water of baptism and when it comes to water, Underwood immerses herself in a redemptive
story song, which tells of her decision to turn to God for guidance in the first place. She recalls being
dunked in her small hometown church and how proud she was the day she was baptized (Scott Carrie
Underwood ). The song finds Underwood revisiting the turning to God of her hit single Jesus, Take
The Wheel. In this instance she is singing about water baptism. At the end of her song she also
includes the classic hymn Amazing Grace. By doing this Underwood examines her placement as a
mainstream trendsetter and potential Christian country crossover star (Scott Carrie Underwood ).
Though we have learned Underwood is clearly no stranger to singing about her beliefs, she said in a
past interview she has come under criticism for working on such songs as Something In The Water
and Jesus, Take The Wheel (Koonse Carrie Underwood ). That hasn t held her back though;
Underwood tells us that country music is different in a way that there is a Bible Belt ness about it.
That certainly seems to be the truth as she manages to create remarkable one of a kind hits while

Catholic Reformation Essay
During the 16th century, Protestantism emerged as a new sect of Christianity. This process was not
calm or peaceful in the slightest. Protestant leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin fiercely
attacked and denied traditional Catholic beliefs, causing much controversy and debate upon religion.
Many regions of Europe as a whole were converted to Protestantism, and many more Protestants
emerged in areas where Catholicism remained the state religion. The Catholic faith became less and
less appealing to people as the abuses of the clergy were now publicly addressed by reformers and a
new, personal approach to religion was offered in Protestantism. In addition, rulers favored
Protestantism as a state religion because it meant that no power ... Show more content on

An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St.
Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read
Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied.
Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed.
The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect
against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair abuses of
the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against criticism from
Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The council acted against the
abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant that indulgences could not just be
sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did something truly good. Also, bishops were to
reside in their respective dioceses and attend more carefully to their duties, exercising more control
over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps were taken to make sure church officials were eligible
for the job. In order to have an educated clergy, the council ordered that a seminary be set up in each
diocese for priest training. More careful steps were to be taken to ensure the celibacy of clergy. The
Council of Trent was able to eliminate many abuses of the

Parliament may have seen an opportunity for auditors to cook the books, which would cause those
companies to pay more taxes. During the 19th century you had the rise of the United States, and Great
Britain did not want to look weaker than the US. If companies were paying more money in taxes, then
Great Britain would be a stronger nation compared to the newly founded United States of America. If
the auditors of today followed the same rules they did in Great Britain during the 19th century, then
America would be in trouble. With such a competitive and strong capitalistic market, it would be hard
to not be tempted to alter the financial statements of publically traded companies if there were no
independence standards. Today s business world obviously holds independence of auditors to be
important or else Michael Goodbread would have never been investigated by the SEC. If
independence was not viewed as an important issue in the field of auditing then there would not be
rules and regulations strictly forbidding it. With the scandals of Enron, WorldCom, Deloitte and
Touche, and others it is apparent that not all auditors act in an ethical manner. With the SEC and other
organizations cracking down on these issues it will hopefully clean up the image of auditing in the
future.

Samurai Dbq Analysis
The samurai the warrior for Japan, they were determined to defend their ruler no matter what the cost

order in Europe when there was none. Even though samurai and knights have many similarities, in a
one on one battle, the advantage would be to the samurai and this can be seen in their armor, training
and beliefs. The first way samurais would have an advantage is their armor. In document D written by

piece of evidence that supports my claim is in document D written by the DBQ Project it says Below

The Modern Law Of Murder
The modern law of murder developed over many centuries from the English common law of
homicide. Homicide is simply defined as the killing of another person. Before the 1500 s, common
law judges categorized homicide into two broad categories known as, criminal and noncriminal
homicides (Samaha, 2013). Over the next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were
established and further divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Criminal homicide included
murder and manslaughter, while noncriminal homicide was divided into justifiable and excusable
homicide (Samaha, 2013). By the 1700 s, three types of homicides were firmly embraced by English
common law and the American Colonies. The three categories according ... Show more content on

Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence with malice
aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a clear criminal intent with
some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the killing before the murder occurred and had to be
planned in advance (Samaha, 2013). To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes
outlined activities such as poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However,
while murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time judges
saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the standard definition. First,
sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated were added. These types of murder were
often completed during a heat of passion moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s
actions (Samaha, 2013). However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not
substantial enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional killings

Sea Turtle Segregation
After a significant slump last year, sea turtle nesting has rebounded to record levels on beaches from
the Carolinas to Florida. The good news largely can be attributed to the conservation efforts of
researchers and volunteers, who have spent the summer cataloging and protecting sea turtle nests,
according to the New York Times. It s a lot of physical effort, stated Wildlife biologist Doug Hoffman.
You re talking about being in the sun, hauling equipment and digging holes, pounding stakes. Due to
the hard work of the volunteers, a record 2,292 loggerhead nests were counted during the May through
August nesting season and that s just a preliminary count from Georgia. Based on the promising
numbers, scientists are more confident than

Why Did Macduff Destroy Macbeth
In Macbeth, Act 4: 2, we can see that Macbeth has reached a point in his life where he will do
anything and kill anyone to ensure his stature in the kingdom is protected. We analyzed this when he
first murdered King Duncan and then had Banquo, his best friend, assassinated. With his constant
homicides come sleepless nights and hallucinations of ghosts. Eventually, his wife goes crazy because
of her guilty conscience of provoking her husband into committing the murders, and dies right before
the battle between Macbeth and Macduff occurs. One chief motive behind Macduff s purpose to
destroy Macbeth is what act 4: 2 is about. Macbeth has Macduff s family, and all who were in his
home, slaughtered. This engages Malcolm, who was suspected of his ... Show more content on

Comparing to the real world of today, there are those who make promises and break them, but they are
not so severe that they need to be hanged for doing so. However, those who break their promises very

Literary Devices Utilized in Thomas Foster s Book How to...
The only real way to truly understand a story is to understand all aspects of a story and their meanings.
The same goes for movies, as they are all just stories being acted out. In Thomas Foster s book, How
to Read Literature Like a Professor , Foster explains in detail the numerous ingredients of a story. He
discusses almost everything that can be found in any given piece of literature. The devices discussed
in Foster s book can be found in most movies as well, including in Quentin Tarantino s cult classic,
Pulp Fiction . This movie is a complicated tale that follows numerous characters involved in
intertwining stories. Tarantino utilizes many devices to make Pulp Fiction into an excellent film. In

friendship with trust and respect. This mini story is just one example of how quests are used in Pulp
Fiction . Archetypes or symbols are described in Foster s book as being easy to identify but almost
impossible to define. According to Foster, everyone wants a symbol to mean something incredibly
specific (Foster 97). In Pulp Fiction , the most prominent archetypes are the briefcase and the band
aid. Throughout the film, Marsellus Wallace wears a band aid on the back of his neck and seeks out a
briefcase which has been taken from him. The contents of the briefcase and the reason for the band aid
are never revealed throughout the movie. Whenever Marsellus does not have his briefcase, he is
shown with the band aid on the back of his neck and whenever he has his briefcase, the band aid is
gone. Anytime the briefcase is opened, the only thing seen is a bright golden light emanating from the
case. Each character who sees what is inside of the case appears enthralled and amazed with the
contents. A very popular theory about the meaning of the case and band aid is that perhaps the

Walk Two Moon Research Paper
There were several story lines running through Walk Two Moons. One was the journey Sal took with
Gram and Gramps throughout the United States to get to Lewiston, Idaho in one week. They traveled
to Lexington, Mount Rushmore, and then to Old Faithful. These tourist attractions are some of the few
places Sal, Gram, and Gramps visited on their road trip. Lexington is located in the state of Kentucky.
Kentucky is where Sal lived in the beginning of the book before she moved to a different state in the
United States. Lexington is the second largest city in Kentucky and has a population of about 318,449
people! It is known as the the horse capital of the world because it is the home of a few major race
courses. In Lexington, they have a strange law that you can t put an ice cream cone in your back

The Fda s Global Unique Device Identification Analysis
The FDA has established a unique device identification (UDI) database to enhance the identification
of medical devices from point of manufacture through delivery to the end user. This guideline covers
medical devices Classes I, II, and III (FDA 2014), where Class I poses the lowest risk to patient and
Class III carries the highest risk. When fully implemented, the label for the majority of medical
devices will contain a unique device identifier (UDI) in a human and machine readable (barcode) form
(FDA 2017). Medical device companies operating under FDA guidelines will be required to submit
certain information about each device to the FDA s Global Unique Device Identification Database
(GUDID) (FDA 2014). In order to allow organizations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Problem Statement
Many companies have set forth action plans for UDI compliance, however, when they purchase the
Prisym ID solution, their personnel, from entry level through C level have not had exposure or
training on the PRISYM 360 software application and do not have sufficient knowledge of the
application as required to perform their job. They may have understanding of the guideline
requirements, but they do not yet know how to translate it into creating the actual label for market
medical devices.
Problem Background and Causes
The FDA developed UDI in order to better track medical devices manufactured in the United States. It
was signed into law on Septebmer 27, 2007 as a part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Amendments of 2007 (FDA, 2007). The law is recognized as a significant addition to overall FDA
authority, and as a result medical devices companies must implement the guidance to maintain
compliance with U.S. FDA, or be ordered to cease all operations. The organizations must prepare and
train personnel relative to the production labeling process in order to ensure product being sold is in
compliance. Because the employees are not yet trained on the proper usage is a concern to the
company if they are to meet the deadline for total compliance. The deadline as set forth by the FDA is
a phased in schedule between 2014 2020. The PRISYM 360 solution is UDI compliant, and the
instruction will allow the organizations employees to

Hybrid Cars And The Electric Motor
Hybrid cars have been around for a long time. Much longer than any of us have even thought. The
first battery powered machines came way earlier, but for the hybrid cars we think of today, these
models started coming out around 1888. A vehicle is a hybrid if it utilizes more than one form of
onboard energy to achieve propulsion. In practice, that means a hybrid will have a traditional internal
combustion engine and a fuel tank, as well as one or more electric motors and a battery pack.
(Edmunds) The gas is used to fuel the car but the main source of the power comes from the electric
motor. There have also been companies, like Porsche, who have created hybrids that used an internal
combustion engine that would turn a generator that powered an electric motor. A car with just the
electric motor is not a hybrid, it s just an electric car. Many companies have seen the growing field of
hybrids cars and plan to expand their showcases with these new cars. Some of these companies
include Honda, Volvo, and Cadillac.
These hybrid cars have been tested and matched up against conventional cars in almost every category
possible. One of the main, and important, categories is the gas mileage, and this is one of the best
reasons why people decide to go for these hybrid models. For a regular, conventional engine, vehicle,
there is only one source of energy powering the engine, and therefore the car, and we all know that is
gasoline. But with the hybrids, there is that second energy

Forgiveness In C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity
I actually read two chapters that we had not yet read from the book Mere Christianity and chose the
one that has had the most significant impact on my life in recent years. I have come to understand
forgiveness in such a different manner since becoming a Christian and yet reading C. S. Lewis s take
on forgiveness and Christianity augmented my understanding even further. I am excited to review this
chapter and share with you my story of forgiveness, as well as, reveal how this chapter has impacted
and altered my understanding of forgiveness and my faith. C. S. Lewis spends the beginning of his
chapters identifying the conflicts regarding the topic that he is about to embark on. I think this is a
great approach to his writing; identify the problem, find common ground in order to open the mind of
the reader to hear the topic of the chapter. Here Lewis identifies that the problem with forgiveness is
that people think it hateful and contemptible. That sort of talk makes them sick, they say (Mere
Christianity, 1952, p.115). He also expresses that he is not trying to tell you that he is particularly great
at forgiveness, but that he is merely explaining that this is what Christianity is. Lewis explains that
forgiveness is described in the Bible very matter of fact he says it is made perfectly clear that if we do

Prior to the arrival of Europeans, land care was a major purpose in life for Aboriginal people and
although their approach was entirely sustainable, they were actively intervening in the landscape.
They involved activities such as damming creeks, fire stick farming and sustainable harvesting
methods. (Roberts, 2014) The damming of creeks created natural watering holes for their own use as
well as attracting animals to the area, which incidentally resulted in a change in Australian landscape.
Fire stick farming was used to promote the growth of valued plants, with plant species unable to
survive fire and declining in numbers, and more resistant species, such as grass trees, eucalypts and
acacias, dominating. The Indigenous harvesting techniques were also quite sustainable in conserving
resources. For example, women dug some varieties of yams in such a way that a portion which would
regenerate was left in the ground. (Williams, 1986, pp. 93 94) Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the
Indigenous Australians managed their lands in a way that was sustainable and would ensure

Compare And Contrast Sigmund Adud And Alfred Adler
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss how theories created by Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler are
similar but also different. Both these theories discuss ideas involving one s personality and mental
health. Sigmund Freud focused on the stages of personality and the human mind while, Alfred Adler s
theory focused on the individual as a whole. The theories were different, but were also alike in that
they focused on sexuality in the human influenced the mind.
Compare and Contrast: Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler
Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler are well known and respected men in the world of psychology. Both
their theories involved the study of the human mind. Freud believed that much of the human instinct
was sexually based and that many problems they suffered were due to this instinct. Freud concluded
that his patients memories reached back to childhood and that many of the repressed experiences they
recalled concerned sexual issues. Adler believed there was more to the individual but also knew that
biology had an influence. He also believed that one s birth order and socially affected the development
of the human personality.
Sigmund Freud is known as the father or the founder of psychoanalysis because he concluded that
psychological problems goes back to sexual issues. Freud was influenced by the works of
psychologists such as Charles Darwin and Ernst Brucke, but Freud s teacher Jean Martin Charcot, was
the one that influenced him the most. Charcot

In his article Relations Natural and Unnatural, Richard B. Hays states that after deciding what Paul
thought concerning homosexuality, we should still decide how to construe the authority of his opinion
in the present time. There are many open questions about how the bible functions as an authority for
normative ethical judgments. We cannot ease ourselves of the obligation for moral decision by
engaging to the plain sense of single proof text, but on the flip side, should we feel constrained to
pressure Paul, through exegetical scowls, to verbalize what we cerebrate he ought to have verbalized.
We must let the text have its verbally express, and then we must choose what obedience to God

possible misuse of the biblical teachings as in the edifications that are used in later historical settings.

How To End Racism In America
Together racism disappears
We Americans should know by now what racism means from the news or from watching how colored
skin people get bullied more than white people. Did you know that in 1870, 4.8 million African
Americans lived in the United States and in 2007, there were 40.7 million African Americans that
lived in the United States. In this essay, I will be explaining the events that happen due to racism and
how we can stop racism. Three actions we can take to end the violence are to stop black churches
getting burned down, making all races equal, and stopping racist comments.
In this paragraph, you will learn about one important event that happened in the south and that has
affected black America . Six black churches were burned down in the south in just a ten day time
period. People think that the group of people burning the churches down is a supremacist group called
the KKK. A supremacist group is a group where white people think that they are better than all of the
other races usually towards black people. Since the six black churches got burned down in the south,
people are starting to think that whoever is targeting the churches are targeting black churchgoers. But

February 1917 Dbq Analysis
In the twentieth century many Europeans liked the idea of having a totalitarian government. The
people in Europe found this to be somewhat comforting. They knew that things would be okay if
everything was controlled. Part of this was the idea all for one and one for all . For this to work out,
there were things that had to be contributed to the governments. There were economic, social, and
political conditions that helped to transition from the current government that they were using to the
totalitarian government. In March 1917, there was a Revolution in Russia that started to change things
in Europe. Tsar Nicholas had left power at this time, and Prince Lvov took over. Kerensky was the one

exaggeration. The working class had to deal with the bosses not caring about them, long hours and
getting paid little to nothing. It would be much easier for this class to have some kind of power if the

Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016
Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and several
Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly, these bruises
didn t come from extreme BDSM play (though that would ve been a much better story to tell) but
rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an ancient therapy mostly
used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting multiple warm round
suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process is believed to stimulate
muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to cure all kinds of ailments
including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. A 2015 study (Lauche et al., 2015) examined
whether cupping worked better than a sham controlled treatment for patients suffering fibromyalgia, a
chronic disorder known to cause widespread pain, muscle stiffness, and even depression. For this
study, participants were put in one of three conditions (k=3): Cupping therapy, sham cupping therapy,
or the usual care condition. Those in cupping therapy and sham cupping therapy condition received
the treatment 2 5x a week. Conversely, those in sham cupping therapy was administered using cupping

person from the gang in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Later on in the book a member of the gang,
Johnny dies from saving kids from a burning church. Also because of his bad record and personality.
This fills Dally with hate and rage. For this reason Dally goes to a store to a store and robes it.
Meeting his gang in the lot the police pull up with guns. Dally also has a gun without ammunition to
scare people, but when he pulls it out the cops shoot without hesitation. Why did Dally bluff the cops?
Well there is three reasons. His bad record, his personality, and lastly the death of Johnny. To begin
with Dally pulled the gun out so the cops would shoot him is because of his bad record. First of all,
Dally was arrested at the age of 10! This is stated in the text by S.E. Hinton on page ten Dally had
spent three days on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. Next, to blow
off steam when he was infuriated he would get into gang fights. This is also stated in the text on page
eleven by S.E. Hinton In New York, Dally blew off steam in gang fights, but here, organized gangs are
rarities there are just small bunches of friends who stick together, and the warfare is between the social
classes. And above all, Dally would always get drunk, ride in rodeos, lie, cheat, steal, roll drunks, and
jump little kids. This can be proven as the text states on page

The Awakening on Kate Chopin s The Awakening
The time period of the 1880s that Kate Chopin lived in influenced her to write The Awakening, a very
controversial book because of many new depictions of women introduced in the book. The Awakening
is a book about a woman, Edna Pontellier. In the beginning, she is a happy woman with her husband
and 2 kids vacationing at Grand Isle. While there, Edna realizes she is in love with Robert Lebrun and
that she was just forced into an unloving/dissatisfying marriage with Mr. Pontellier. Robert however,
leaves for Mexico. While there, Edna picks up a relationship with Alcee Arobin who helps her realize
her sexual passions. Edna has a sexual awakening, and is determined to get independence and she
eventually leaves Mr. Pontellier. She shows her independence and sexual passions through painting.
Edna moves into a house of her own. Robert comes home and tells her he loves her. However, Edna
can t handle all of the social rules and commits suicide before finishing her conversation with Robert.
The book contained a lot of sexual passion shown by Edna, which is a new depiction of women in the
1880s. The new tone Kate Chopin wrote in was influenced by society and her life. The Awakening
caused a lot of controversy due to this new tone. During the mid to late 1800s, the time period that
Kate Chopin wrote The Awakening, women were expected to be a mother woman , which influenced
Kate Chopin to write this book about the gain of independence by women. Women were expected to
stay at home

The Consumer Rights Of The Magna Carta
1. In addition to the basic consumer rights expressed in the consumer s Magna Carta, what other
expectations do you think consumer stakeholders have of business? The basic consumer rights
expressed in the Magna Carta include the right to safety; they want products to be free of pesticides
and the drugs we purchase and foods we consume are safe as well as product safety. Secondly, there is
the right to be informed, which refers to the right to know about a product, and the use of a product,
and this deals with advertising and marketing. There is also the right to make choices, meaning the
competition makes sure there are other options available, and lastly, to be heard, meaning consumers
have the right to communicate with business concerning what they may want in a product, and any
complaints they may have about a product (Carroll, 2012, p. 392). In addition to these rights,
consumers demand fair value for money spent on a product; they also expect a product to meet
reasonable expectations, which means the product will as be safe, and thoroughly tested according to
regulation and if it is not safe, it should be taken off the market. In addition, consumers expect
complete disclosure of the descriptions and design of a product or service, and that there is truth in
advertisements (Carroll, 2012, p. 393).
2. What is your opinion of the consumerism movement? Is it alive and well or is it dead?
Provide evidence for your observations.
I feel consumerism is alive and well.

Essay on The Townshed Act and the Boston Massacre
The Townshend Act and the Boston Massacre
Whenever the colonies were being established there were always issues, much like today. They
worried about over taxation, jobs, money, their children, and many other things. Things haven t really
changed other than some of our morals. Back in the 1770 s many men in power were selfish and cared
for nothing but money. Granted, some people make the argument that America is still that way, but we
know it s not all true. Way back when, America was still mainly ruled by England, any war that
England fought in, America paid the price. These men in positions of power would force Americans to
pay overbearing taxes to cover the debts of wars and even sometimes just to get money from them. So,
here s how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th, 1770 whenever a group of American colonists who
called themselves The Protestors started an uprising at the Customs House. The Protestors instigated
this Massacre by having taunted the British soldiers until one Protestor threw a snowball and hit
Private Hugh Montgomery. Once he was hit he opened fire on the unarmed colonists and his fellow
soldiers followed in his malicious shoes. In all, they killed five colonists, Crispius Attucks, Patrick
Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell, and left 3 colonists injured. The trial for
the soldiers ended in December of 1770 where they were all found guilty of manslaughter and their
punishment was to have their thumbs branded with an M for murderer. This massacre made many
people consider the thought of freedom and some voiced this thought. The Sons of Liberty advertised
this massacre as a doorway to battle for American Liberty ( The Boston Massacre. ). Both of these
events played large roles in the start of The Revolutionary War. The colonists saw that England was
oppressing them and didn t want them to be independent. The colonists saw that England would do
about anything to make sure that they were in control of America and the colonists. Whenever the
Townshend act ended the colonists knew it wouldn t be the end of over taxation or violent murders.
The Boston Massacre showed the colonists that the English don t care who they hurt as long

The Vocabulary Test By Kathleen T. Williams
Published in 2007 by Kathleen T. Williams, in conjunction with Pearson Assessment, the Expressive
Vocabulary Test, Second Edition (EVT 2) is considered an individually administered, norm referenced
vocabulary assessment (Williams, 2007). The EVT 2 is the second edition of the original Expressive
Vocabulary Test by Kathleen T. Williams. As the updated version of the original Expressive
Vocabulary Test, the EVT 2 includes new features such as a second, parallel form for examiners to test
and retest to monitor growth and evaluate response to intervention, full color illustrations that are
larger than the illustrations of its predecessor, additional labeling items for a smoother transition into
the synonym task and provide a broader sampling of vocabulary for older examinees (Williams,
2007). According to the publisher, the EVT 2 is available for various settings, however, currently it is
only available in the English language (Williams, 2007). In order to accommodate for those who may
have special needs (i.e., the hearing or vision impaired), the EVT 2 manual provides suggested
adaptations that will allow that population to participate in the assessment. In order to access the
complete EVT 2 kit for assessment purposes, it will cost the purchaser USD $419 if they choose to
purchase through the Pearson publishing company. This complete kit includes the manual,
administration easels, 25 record forms for Form A and B, as well as a carrying bag (Williams, 2007).

Body Glove Case Essay
Question 1: For what purpose does Body Glove use its budgeting system?
Which purposes are emphasized?
The purpose of Body Glove s budgeting system was to project expenses and forecast revenues for the
upcoming fiscal year. The budget is used to monitor performance (but not linked to performance based
incentives) and detect early warning signals of problem areas.
The budgeting system allows the managers of each department monitor their expenses in which
budgets have been set for materials, salaries and legal expenses amongst others.
Question 2: Trace the steps in the development of the budget at Body Glove. What are the key events
that relate to the timing of the steps in the budgeting process? 1. The budgeting process of Body ...

The budgeting process meant that managers based their forecasts on a wider scope of information
rather than just pre book sales.
Question 3: The case says that Body Glove never prepared a budget prior to fiscal year 1991. How can
a company like Body Glove function effectively without a budget, or can it?
Body Glove had a great product with the neoprene wetsuits and had gained significant market share
through its niche fun life style image which challenged competitors. The business had a small but
loyal customer base, and had attained no.2 market share. Whilst the business had significant growth, I
don t believe it ran completely effectively. An extract from the case state mentions they lost $1 million
in sales due to a shortage of inventory and its forecasts on future sales were not accurate.
Anthony, Hawkins amp; Merchant (2008, p.740) assert If the total costs in a responsibility budget are
expected to vary with volume, as is the case in most standard cost centre s, the responsibility budget
may be in the form of a variable budget. Such a budget shows the planned behavior of costs at various
volume levels. If the company was able to better understand its costs, and forecasts for growth it could
have made the necessary investments in upgrading the manufacturing operations to meet the demand.
Body Glove s reputation was at stake and in 1990 the company decided to break away from

Hawaii
The last state admitted into the United States so far is Hawaii. Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.
The Hawaiian Islands were settled by the Polynesians first, about 2000 years ago. Then, in 1778,
James Cook stopped in the Hawaiian Islands on his way to China. This is the first time the Westerners
find out about Hawaii. After that, American ships began settling there, in the early 1800 s. From there,
American missionaries come to the Hawaiian Islands, and they wanted to convert the Hawaiians to
Christianity. Over time, Americans became very trusted advisors for the rulers. Eventually, in 1840,
America would help Hawaii write their first Constitution. This helps them become even closer with
the Native Hawaiians. 10 years later, the sugar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on, in 1891, King David Kalakaua dies, and his sister, Liliuokalani becomes Queen. However,
she only stayed queen for 2 years. This was because, unlike her brother, she had the courage to reject
the new Constitution the Americans forced upon them. The Americans didn t like that she tried to limit
their power, so there were American marines sent in to protect the Americans. Queen Liliuokalani
gave up her throne, when faced with guns, to avoid any more bloodshed. So, Queen Liliuokalani only
got 2 years to serve as Queen. Then, in 1898, Hawaii is annexed by President McKinley. Some people
had been wanting to annex Hawaii sooner, but President Grover Cleveland did not allow it. 2 years
after this, Hawaii finally becomes an American territory. At this time, 1900, about ¼ of the population
of Hawaii was made up of people born in Japan, because of the imported workers coming from other
countries. About 60 years after Hawaii became an American territory, Hawaii becomes a state. Hawaii
is declared the 50th state in the United States in 1959, partly due to all of the Americans and imported
workers that came that increased the population. All in all, Americans had a big role in Hawaii s
evolution, and helped it become an American

  • 3. The Epic Of Beowulf And The Anglo-Saxon Heros Since the creation of man, there has been one thing that has always been consistent. That thing is the yearning to acquire information and knowledge. For the majority of history, most people have not had the privilege of being able to read. As a result, stories and information had to be passed down orally. This is absolutely true when focusing on the history of the Anglo Saxons. The Anglo Saxons told stories that were phantasmagoric and revolved around the concept of fate, also known as wyrd. There is no piece of literature that accurately represents the Anglo Saxon way of telling stories that is better than the epic of Beowulf. Beowulf is a story about a man who traveled from his motherland of Geatland to Denmark which was being haunted by the demon Grendel. He ended up killing Grendel, making Herot safe once again. He who had come to them from across the sea, bold and strong minded, had driven affliction off, purged Herot clean [..] A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering forced on Hrothgar s helpless people by the bloodthirsty fiend. No Dane doubted the victory, for the proof, hanging high from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monster s Arm, claw and shoulder and all (Beowulf 825 836). After it had been discovered that Beowulf had killed the demon, the Danes boasted about him and rewarded him with gifts. Soon after the death of Grendel, another demon had been awakened and had revenge in mind. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It held roughly 16% of the domestic express mail market by 1997. It provides time sensitive delivery of documents, letters, small packages, and freight in the United States and internationally. The company has several advantages over its rivals, such as it provides delivery services at a lower cost of up to 20% over FedEx and UPS; it operates the nation s only privately owned foreign trade zone in Wilmington; it is more flexible and provides more customer tailored services. It charges lower price but still much guarantee delivery dates (not offered by the US Postal Service). A general acceleration in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition: the US domestic express mail market is somewhat in an oligopoly status. The competition among the big three is quite fierce. Yet normally FedEx and UPS lead the market. The six other second tier players do not have any threats to the three major players. The US Postal Service served much of the rest of the market. However, it has a limited popularity just among residential customers because it is inefficient in package tracking and has a much worse on time delivery record. It has a legal monopoly for first class letters. But the company is prohibited by law from offering volume discounts to customers. DHL and TNT focus on the international market and trans border shipments. DHL offer hard to reach service since it has hubs in many other different places in the world. It has never invested heavily in domestic market. TNT focuses its effort on Europe. BAX Global focuses on heavy cargo. RPS does not offer overnight delivery. It focused on two day delivery via a ground network. It is known for its efficient ground transportation and its sophisticated information technology. The traditional express industry is threatened by facsimile and electronic mails, which have zero cost. Competition between FedEx and UPS has caused a lower price and more innovations. The industry is quite consolidated and has a very high barrier to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charge Of The Light Brigade In the poem The Charge of the Light Brigade , written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, it tells a story about a group of six hundred soldiers who rode into Death Valley under their commander, Major General James Brudenell. No soldier was discouraged or questioned their commander, even though the soldiers knew they were entering a death trap. The question to ask is; should there have been a discussion about other tactics the soldiers could have used instead of going straight into their enemies fire? The poem explains what happened upon the event from the noble men beginning their march to the last fallen. Within the first stanza, it states the six hundred soldiers rode horseback into the battle field to retrieve their guns. In the next few stanzas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance of Language and Culture The importance of language is a repeated trend throughout history. The lack of language weighs negatively on an individual s intellect and the acquisition of language feeds the development of one s cultural identity. The greatest historical conquest began in the realm of linguistic turmoil. Examples of this are vast in the capturing of American Americans slaves, and injustice towards the Native Americans on the home front. The captured people were taken from a variety of tribes speaking different native tongues to insure communication barriers resulting in the slaves not being able to overtake the ship or rally an uprising. The linguistic and cultural differences lead to the manipulation of the semantics of agreements, which lead to many Native Americans to lose their land. The British taken continentally instilled linguistic control over people from India to Southern Africa. British forcefully mandated the educational system be taught in English therefore ultimately taking over the languacultural acquisition of the continent of India s future. The pedagogy of language is connected to perpetuation of culture, traditions, and social norms. The Deaf community is another example of the importance of language acquisition throughout history. The impact of how a deaf child is educated impacts more than that deaf child alone but also the future of the Deaf community and the languaculture rich in American Sign Language. Although they may initially be created to serve a purpose to a military or government, they have been adapted to fit into everyday language. Whether it be medical professionals, avid sports fans, or members of a certain generation, acronyms greatly contribute to group specific jargon. In militaries, efficiency is highly valued. To prevent from having to repeat obscenely long phrases, militaries frequently employ the use of acronyms. Due to this, many acronyms originate from the military and trickle their way into the common language. In the medical field, many procedures or conditions have acronyms that represent them. This allows those in the medical community to trim down long medical terms and associate them with shorter words that are much easier to remember. When used between those in the healthcare field, these words do not pose a threat to the transferring of ideas, as both parties understand these words meanings. However, if one party is an outsider of the medical field, the use of such acronyms could be detrimental to the communication between the two. Because of this, many doctors avoid using medical acronyms when conversing with a patient about matters of his or her health. Among certain groups with common interests, acronyms have evolved to be used as jargon. The use of such jargon often provides its users with a sense of belonging within a social circle. For example, sometimes middle aged people may try to use initialisms that are popular with the younger generation in an attempt to fit in and rekindle the flame of their former youth. Interestingly, when such attempts are done incorrectly, it can often have the opposite effect and alienate the person from said group. This type of playing the part leads into the sociological theory known as Dramaturgy. Dramaturgy was first theorized by Erving Goffman. Goffman believed that people conduct themselves differently in different situations to appear in some way that is advantageous, kind of like actors playing different characters in films. For instance, there was a group of teenagers who were taking lots of pictures with each other. However, one boy was just off to the side calmly looking at his friends. After a few minutes of this, his attitude completely changed, and he jumped into one of the pictures with his friends and began taking more pictures. • 11. International Trade Agreements And How Governmental... This paper will discuss the benefits United States (U.S) had by engaging in international trade agreements and how governmental influences benefitted trade. To regulate international trade between nations, international trade agreements exist. These agreements involve regulating imports, exports and international trade of some specialty goods. The United States have been involved in many international trade agreements including free trade agreements. Free trade Agreements (FTA) helps the United States to open up foreign markets for domestic firms. The agreements help to reduce barrier on exports, ease trading across the border, improve economic growth, increase productivity, increase employment opportunities, and boost agriculture exports. Some of those critical functions are resolving disputes efficiently, create a better trading environment, and preserve peace among countries. The initial sections of this paper will discuss the benefits of international trade agreements for exports, imports, jobs, agriculture, and economy. Natives represent, in fact, the ethnic group with the highest degree of alcohol consumption in the United States. Confinement on reservations after displacement brought for Native Americans identity conflicts and assimilation problems. This situation promoted the abuse of liquor to mitigate the psychological pain inflicted by the dispossession of the land and enclosure in a limited and controlled space. She recalls being dunked in her small hometown church and how proud she was the day she was baptized (Scott Carrie Underwood ). The song finds Underwood revisiting the turning to God of her hit single Jesus, Take The Wheel. In this instance she is singing about water baptism. At the end of her song she also includes the classic hymn Amazing Grace. By doing this Underwood examines her placement as a mainstream trendsetter and potential Christian country crossover star (Scott Carrie Underwood ). Though we have learned Underwood is clearly no stranger to singing about her beliefs, she said in a past interview she has come under criticism for working on such songs as Something In The Water and Jesus, Take The Wheel (Koonse Carrie Underwood ). Protestant leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin fiercely attacked and denied traditional Catholic beliefs, causing much controversy and debate upon religion. Many regions of Europe as a whole were converted to Protestantism, and many more Protestants emerged in areas where Catholicism remained the state religion. Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed. The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair abuses of the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against criticism from Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The council acted against the abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant that indulgences could not just be sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did something truly good. Also, bishops were to reside in their respective dioceses and attend more carefully to their duties, exercising more control over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps were taken to make sure church officials were eligible for the job. • 20. The Modern Law Of Murder The modern law of murder developed over many centuries from the English common law of homicide. Homicide is simply defined as the killing of another person. Before the 1500 s, common law judges categorized homicide into two broad categories known as, criminal and noncriminal homicides (Samaha, 2013). Over the next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were established and further divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Criminal homicide included murder and manslaughter, while noncriminal homicide was divided into justifiable and excusable homicide (Samaha, 2013). By the 1700 s, three types of homicides were firmly embraced by English common law and the American Colonies. The three categories according ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence with malice aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a clear criminal intent with some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the killing before the murder occurred and had to be planned in advance (Samaha, 2013). To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes outlined activities such as poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However, while murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time judges saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the standard definition. First, sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated were added. These types of murder were often completed during a heat of passion moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s actions (Samaha, 2013). However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not substantial enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional killings that were completed during a felony (Samaha, 2013). While most murders require intent to cause death, under this law, any homicide committed during the commission of a felony, regardless of whether it s intentional or accidental will constitute as murder. Why Did Macduff Destroy Macbeth In Macbeth, Act 4: 2, we can see that Macbeth has reached a point in his life where he will do anything and kill anyone to ensure his stature in the kingdom is protected. Eventually, his wife goes crazy because of her guilty conscience of provoking her husband into committing the murders, and dies right before the battle between Macbeth and Macduff occurs. The first battery powered machines came way earlier, but for the hybrid cars we think of today, these models started coming out around 1888. A vehicle is a hybrid if it utilizes more than one form of onboard energy to achieve propulsion. In practice, that means a hybrid will have a traditional internal combustion engine and a fuel tank, as well as one or more electric motors and a battery pack. (Edmunds) The gas is used to fuel the car but the main source of the power comes from the electric motor. There have also been companies, like Porsche, who have created hybrids that used an internal combustion engine that would turn a generator that powered an electric motor. A car with just the electric motor is not a hybrid, it s just an electric car. Many companies have seen the growing field of hybrids cars and plan to expand their showcases with these new cars. Some of these companies include Honda, Volvo, and Cadillac. These hybrid cars have been tested and matched up against conventional cars in almost every category possible. One of the main, and important, categories is the gas mileage, and this is one of the best reasons why people decide to go for these hybrid models. For a regular, conventional engine, vehicle, there is only one source of energy powering the engine, and therefore the car, and we all know that is gasoline. I think this is a great approach to his writing; identify the problem, find common ground in order to open the mind of the reader to hear the topic of the chapter. Here Lewis identifies that the problem with forgiveness is that people think it hateful and contemptible. That sort of talk makes them sick, they say (Mere Christianity, 1952, p.115). He also expresses that he is not trying to tell you that he is particularly great at forgiveness, but that he is merely explaining that this is what Christianity is. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, land care was a major purpose in life for Aboriginal people and although their approach was entirely sustainable, they were actively intervening in the landscape. They involved activities such as damming creeks, fire stick farming and sustainable harvesting methods. (Roberts, 2014) The damming of creeks created natural watering holes for their own use as well as attracting animals to the area, which incidentally resulted in a change in Australian landscape. Fire stick farming was used to promote the growth of valued plants, with plant species unable to survive fire and declining in numbers, and more resistant species, such as grass trees, eucalypts and acacias, dominating. The Indigenous harvesting techniques were also quite sustainable in conserving resources. For example, women dug some varieties of yams in such a way that a portion which would regenerate was left in the ground. The working class had to deal with the bosses not caring about them, long hours and getting paid little to nothing. It would be much easier for this class to have some kind of power if the country they were in had a backwards economy. For example, in Paris the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016 Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and several Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly, these bruises didn t come from extreme BDSM play (though that would ve been a much better story to tell) but rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an ancient therapy mostly used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting multiple warm round suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process is believed to stimulate muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to cure all kinds of ailments including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. A 2015 study (Lauche et al., 2015) examined whether cupping worked better than a sham controlled treatment for patients suffering fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder known to cause widespread pain, muscle stiffness, and even depression. For this study, participants were put in one of three conditions (k=3): Cupping therapy, sham cupping therapy, or the usual care condition. Those in cupping therapy and sham cupping therapy condition received the treatment 2 5x a week. Conversely, those in sham cupping therapy was administered using cupping glass with a hole on top which negates the pressure created by the real cupping method. Subjects were blind in this study and not aware of any sham treatment. They were told they would receive either traditional or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of The Outsiders Do you know Dallas Winston is? Well let me tell you he is not nice. Dallas is a clod, mean, and tough person from the gang in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Later on in the book a member of the gang, Johnny dies from saving kids from a burning church. Also because of his bad record and personality. This fills Dally with hate and rage. For this reason Dally goes to a store to a store and robes it. Meeting his gang in the lot the police pull up with guns. Dally also has a gun without ammunition to scare people, but when he pulls it out the cops shoot without hesitation. Why did Dally bluff the cops? Well there is three reasons. His bad record, his personality, and lastly the death of Johnny. To begin with Dally pulled the gun out so the cops would shoot him is because of his bad record. First of all, Dally was arrested at the age of 10! This is stated in the text by S.E. Hinton on page ten Dally had spent three days on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. Next, to blow off steam when he was infuriated he would get into gang fights. This is also stated in the text on page eleven by S.E. Hinton In New York, Dally blew off steam in gang fights, but here, organized gangs are rarities there are just small bunches of friends who stick together, and the warfare is between the social classes. And above all, Dally would always get drunk, ride in rodeos, lie, cheat, steal, roll drunks, and jump little kids. This can be proven as the text states on page ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Consumer Rights Of The Magna Carta 1. In addition to the basic consumer rights expressed in the consumer s Magna Carta, what other expectations do you think consumer stakeholders have of business? The basic consumer rights expressed in the Magna Carta include the right to safety; they want products to be free of pesticides and the drugs we purchase and foods we consume are safe as well as product safety. Secondly, there is the right to be informed, which refers to the right to know about a product, and the use of a product, and this deals with advertising and marketing. There is also the right to make choices, meaning the competition makes sure there are other options available, and lastly, to be heard, meaning consumers have the right to communicate with business concerning what they may want in a product, and any complaints they may have about a product (Carroll, 2012, p. 392). In addition to these rights, consumers demand fair value for money spent on a product; they also expect a product to meet reasonable expectations, which means the product will as be safe, and thoroughly tested according to regulation and if it is not safe, it should be taken off the market. In addition, consumers expect complete disclosure of the descriptions and design of a product or service, and that there is truth in advertisements (Carroll, 2012, p. 393). 2. • 45. Essay on The Townshed Act and the Boston Massacre The Townshend Act and the Boston Massacre Whenever the colonies were being established there were always issues, much like today. They worried about over taxation, jobs, money, their children, and many other things. Things haven t really changed other than some of our morals. Back in the 1770 s many men in power were selfish and cared for nothing but money. Granted, some people make the argument that America is still that way, but we know it s not all true. Way back when, America was still mainly ruled by England, any war that England fought in, America paid the price. These men in positions of power would force Americans to pay overbearing taxes to cover the debts of wars and even sometimes just to get money from them. So, here s how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th, 1770 whenever a group of American colonists who called themselves The Protestors started an uprising at the Customs House. The Protestors instigated this Massacre by having taunted the British soldiers until one Protestor threw a snowball and hit Private Hugh Montgomery. Once he was hit he opened fire on the unarmed colonists and his fellow soldiers followed in his malicious shoes. In all, they killed five colonists, Crispius Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell, and left 3 colonists injured. The trial for the soldiers ended in December of 1770 where they were all found guilty of manslaughter and their punishment was to have their thumbs branded with an M for murderer. This massacre made many people consider the thought of freedom and some voiced this thought. The Sons of Liberty advertised this massacre as a doorway to battle for American Liberty ( The Boston Massacre. ). Both of these events played large roles in the start of The Revolutionary War. The colonists saw that England was oppressing them and didn t want them to be independent. The colonists saw that England would do about anything to make sure that they were in control of America and the colonists. Whenever the Townshend act ended the colonists knew it wouldn t be the end of over taxation or violent murders. Question 3: The case says that Body Glove never prepared a budget prior to fiscal year 1991. How can a company like Body Glove function effectively without a budget, or can it? Body Glove had a great product with the neoprene wetsuits and had gained significant market share through its niche fun life style image which challenged competitors. The business had a small but loyal customer base, and had attained no.2 market share. Whilst the business had significant growth, I don t believe it ran completely effectively. An extract from the case state mentions they lost $1 million in sales due to a shortage of inventory and its forecasts on future sales were not accurate. Anthony, Hawkins amp; Merchant (2008, p.740) assert If the total costs in a responsibility budget are expected to vary with volume, as is the case in most standard cost centre s, the responsibility budget may be in the form of a variable budget. Such a budget shows the planned behavior of costs at various volume levels.
