The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers
The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803) and
will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional support
(Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on interventions that
diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers (Renfrew et al., 2012).
Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be learned and mothers need
support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding a success (Stables Rankin,
2010). This essay will aim to highlight the benefits and advantages of breastfeeding for both mother
and child, and examine the support that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breastmilk provides a number of health advantages beginning at birth and continuing throughout a
child s life (Kainonen et al., 2012; Pairman et al., 2015; Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a mother
breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et al., 2016;
Stables Rankin, 2010).
The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus impacts
our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious
disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed babies (Kramer
Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of respiratory infections
would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital admissions (Victora et al.,
2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milk is also associated with a reduction in asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora
et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and childhood lymphomas (Guise et
al., 2005). Due to the presence of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in breastmilk, studies have
gathered that breastfeeding can also improve brain development, growth and levels of intelligence
quotient (Victora et al., 2016; Huffman et al., 2011). Additionally, the prevalence of obesity

Loans at the time were nonamortizing and required a balloon payment at the expiration of the term.
Mortgages were available to a limited client base, with home ownership representing about 40 percent
of U.S. households. Many of these short term mortgages went into default during the Great
Depression as homeowners became unable to make regular payments or find new financing to pay off
balloon payments that became due. The United States government intervened in the housing market in
1932 with the creation of the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB). The FHLB provided short term
lending to financial institutions (primarily Savings and Loans) to create additional funds for home
mortgages. Congress passed the National Housing Act of 1934 to further promote homeownership by
providing a system of insured loans that protected lenders against default by borrowers. The mortgage
insurance program established by the National Housing Act and administered by the Federal Housing
Administration (FHA) reimbursed lenders for any loss associated with a foreclosure up to 80 percent
of the appraised value of the home. With the risk associated with default on FHA backed mortgage
loans reduced, lenders extended mortgage loan terms to as long as 20 years and LTVs of 80 percent. In
1938, Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) was established

Cause Of Alzheimer s Neururodegenerative Disease
In the present day, there are quite several diseases that have yet to be treated and or prevented. One of
those is a neurodegenerative disease called Alzheimer s. Alzheimer s is defined by a depreciation of
memory and other cognitive functions that can lead to death with in 3 to 9 years after it is properly
diagnosed. The disease effects more than 35 million people in the world, 5.5 million are effected right
here in the United States. The main factor that is known to cause this disease that we know of right
now is age. (Querfuth LaFerla, 2010) As people start to get older their body s start to deteriorate and
this is when Alzheimer s is known to start taking over in the body, more specifically the brain. There

The telomerase reverse transcriptase protein (TERT) has recently been exhibited to have a diversity of
functions. The TERT protein has been to be shown to be defensive with its interaction of the
mitochondria and has been hypothesized to possibly have a protective property in the human brain.
(Spilsbury, Miwa, et al. 2014) To further test this theory scientist proposed and experimented on the
possible functions of TERT. The study consisted of using 24 postmortem brains from consenting
donors and the used of living mice. The experiment was conducted to examine the different stages of
Alzheimer s disease pathology and the ability of the telomerase reverse transcriptase protein to protect
against damage of the neurological systems. The data accumulated from the testing of the human
brains and mice revealed that TERT when present in the subjects tested would begin to colonize with
the mitochondria and Alzheimer s disease subjects and would also cluster in areas under oxidative
tests. (Spilsbury, Miwa, et al. 2014) The experiments showed promising results on possibly using
telomerase proteins to treat and or prevent Alzheimer s disease, but further testing must be done in
order to truly conclude telomerases protective role against Alzheimer s.

Louis Armstrong Essay
Louis Armstrong
He was born in the south at a time when a black boy could expect nothing but to grow up, work hard
at the lowest jobs all his life, and hope somehow, somewhere manage to stay healthy and get a little
out of life. (P.1 Collier) Get a little out of life Louis did, a pure genius he revolutionized America s
first true form of art, jazz. Doing a paper on Louis Armstrong has been enjoyable to do and the
information that is available on Armstrong is endless. So much that this paper is going to concentrate
on Louis Childhood how he got involved with music and the early years of his music career with King

Louis grew up in New Orleans in a tough area known, as The Battle Field where knife fights and gun
play were common. At the age of about seven he moved to black Storyville. It consisted of dance halls
honky tonks and brothels. It was an entertainment district like London s Soho. He grew up with music
all around him. He could hear music from outside is house when he woke up and when he went to
bed.
It is recorded that Louis did attend school at the Fisk school where he learned to read and write. How
long he attended this school is another mystery. One fact we do know about Louis is that he was
arrested on New Years Eve 1912 for shooting a gun. Louis was around eleven at the time, and this was
a very serious offense. He was sent to the Coloreds Waif House a reform school on the out skirts of
New Orleans. Here Louis was introduced to organized music in the form of the school band. The
school band was run by Captain Joseph Jones in a military fashion that was extremely strict. This is
where Louis s life changed from delinquent to a disciplined young man this was also when Louis was
introduced to playing a musical instrument. The teacher, Professor Pete Davis, first had reservations of
letting Louis play in the school s brass band because he thought Louis was a bad kid. Finally Louis
was let into the band, and received his first formal training on an instrument. More importantly than
the music training Louis received from Professor Davis were the real life

Theme Of Injustice And Injustice
The 3 major themes of this book were injustice, honor and worth, and death. Injustice is seen straight
away in the book, starting with the treatment of the black men who work in poor paying jobs to
survive in a society where they are born at a disadvantage simply for the color of their skin. Also,
narrated by Grant, from his perspective, the constant critique on the society s treatment of the African
American community in the US during this time, which was constantly demonstrated by diminishing
one group of people. But the strongest example of injustice in the novel was the unfair accusation and
then official crime of Jefferson, which was completely a mistake. Grant not only offers us his
perspective but also the emotional destruction of Jefferson

Both schools are great school, but each has very different Rec Sports and facilities. Just by looking at
the pictures from both facilities, I would say that they are really nice and up to date. So I will compare
and contrast Texas A M to Ohio State University.
The first university that I will talk about is Texas A M, who has over 12,000 students who participate
each year. They also have over 34 different programs that students can do for free. Intramural sports is

The Importance Of Behavior In The Kingdom Animalia
Behavior is the way that all organisms or living things respond to stimuli in their environment. Stimuli
include chemicals, heat, light, touch, and gravity. For example, plants respond with growth behavior
when light strikes their leaves. Behavior can be categorized as either instinctive (present in a living
thing from birth) or learned (resulting from experience). The distinction between the two is often
unclear, however, since learned behavior often includes instinctive elements. Plants and animals that
lack a well developed nervous system rely on instinctive behavior. Higher developed animals use both
instinctive and learned behavior. Generally, behavior helps organisms survive.
Animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms that form the biological kingdom Animalia. With few
exceptions, animals are motile (able to move), heterotrophic (consume organic material); they
reproduce sexually, and their embryonic development includes a blastula stage. The body plan of the
animal derives from this blastula, differentiating specialized tissues and organs as it develops; this
plan eventually becomes fixed, although some undergo metamorphosis at some stage in their lives.
Plants are mainly multicellular, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. The
term is today generally limited to the green plants, which form an unranked clade Viridiplantae (Latin
for green plants ). This includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns,
clubmosses,

Teenage Pregnancy and the Media Essay
There is a great debate on whether or not mass media has an influence on teenage pregnancy. A study
done by the RAND Corporation shows that teens are twice as likely to have sex or engage in sexual
acts if they see similar sexual behavior in the media. Many objects in the media that involve sex target
teens. Reality TV shows and teen dramas often portray the cool kids as the ones who are having sex
(Chandra).Today s teens are highly influenced by what they see in the media and this can change their
behavior and choices. Some will argue that the media doesn t influence teenagers, but how can we be
sure of that? Today, the media portray teen pregnancy in movies, television shows, magazines, music,
news reports, and books. The problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many researchers have found that this behavior is due to the media glorification that promotes teenage
pregnancy (Vianna 2).
By eliminating the glamorous lifestyles of teenage parents, we will help teens face the reality that
being a parent is ultimately difficult. The teen parents should help send out the message that it is hard
to live life as a teenage parent and that television shows don t fully depict the hardships that come
along with raising children. Instead of having shows that glamorize pregnancy, we should have shows
that educate teens on the real facts of being pregnant. Too many shows out there demonstrate how teen
moms have help from their parents, baby s father, and their friends. By showing teens that such
outcomes are rare, and the truth is most of them don t have the cash flow that celebrities have, they ll
end up struggling and facing the fact that raising children is complicated. Many of the teen moms have
parents and nannies to help care for their children and this wouldn t be the case for most teens. Cases
such as Jamie Lynn Spears show how a teenager can be put into the spotlight while making pregnancy
seem fun and cool. Teens want to replicate celebrities if they see that they are living a fun lifestyle.
Sarah Palin s daughter, Bristol Palin, was on the cover of many magazines during her pregnancy. After
the pregnancy, she participated in the show, Dancing with the Stars. This leads teens to believe that
being a mom might

Medi A Powerful Tool Of Communication
Essay
Media, being the most powerful tool of communication there is, influence societies in many ways. In
fact the hypodermic needle theory states that passive audiences are directly influenced by media. On
the other hand, from a Marxist perspective, one can argue the opposite that it is the audiences who
influence the information which is produced via the media. In this essay this group assessed and
contrasted the media of three countries namely Singapore, Jamaica and Bolivia in relation to their
respective economy, society, values and political system. These three countries differ gravely in terms
of their cultures, norms economic activities, religions and even social ills etc and yet despite these
differences, they all share one thing in common media coverage. In addition, each country has rules
and regulations geared towards the protection of journalists although sometimes such are not enforced
fully.
Bolivia is named after Venezuelan born liberator Simon Bolivar and boarders with five countries
namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. Bolivar is unique in that it has two capital La Paz
(administrative) and Sucre (constitutional). With a population of an estimated population of over 10
million people in this South American country, there are nearly 200 privately owned television
stations, more than 480 radio stations, eight (8) national newspapers as well as many local ones. Of
the various forms of media, radio is the most important source of news and

The Criminal Justice System Is Fair And True
Most people in America believe that our criminal justice system is fair and true. The idea that any free
citizen could be unjustly sentenced to prison or executed by the state is thought of as false.
Unfortunately now a days the judicial process has been infiltrated with false confessions, eyewitness
misidentification, improper forensic science, perjury, ineffective defense counsels, messy police
investigations and prosecutorial misconduct. Our criminal justice system is based on the concept that
every wrong has a cause and effect, thus forcing us to punish any and all offenders, but with all the
faults in our system how do we know who s guilty of committing the crime? Most of the time this is
when wrongful convictions occurs. A simple definition of wrongful conviction is when innocent
defendants are found guilty in criminal trials. Frequently these innocent defendants are forced to go as
far as to plead guilty to avoid death penalties or long prison sentences. The Number of wrongly
convicted persons cannot be known with certainty, because no federal or state agency keeps track of
exonerations, let alone wrongful convictions. Many news stories, reports and books fairly describe
wrongful convictions in detail, although not all of these wrongful convictions resulted in formal
exonerations. In some of these cases, prosecutors insisted that the original verdict was accurate despite
strong new evidence of factual innocence, further clouding an understanding of wrongful

The Contemporary Foreign Policy Of The United States
The contemporary foreign policy of the United States represents an evolving continuum of principles,
conceptions and strategies that in part, derived from the particularistic American Cold War experience.
As such, United States foreign policy is neither a static entity, nor is its intentions or direction
uncontested. This essay will examine the underlying issues of identity and how, beginning with the
Truman Doctrine, a distinct articulation of the national interest was evinced that has defined America s
role in the world. In doing so, focus will be given to the development of alliance policy, containment
and its effect on transforming the US posture in the post Cold War international order.
Firstly, it is pertinent to reconsider the traditional narratives that underpin American identity. Inherent
in this is Manifest Destiny, which asserts that Anglo Saxon American s are God s chosen people, with
a superior culture and who are pre ordained to spread civilisation to inferior peoples (Hollander 2009,
169). This tradition offers instructive themes for the formulation of American exceptionalism and its
manifestation into a missionary foreign policy (Hoffmann 1968, 369). It also raises to the forefront the
Manichean character of American policy, its solipsism and tendency to justify geopolitical objectives
in moralistic terms (Lepgold 1995, 372). Thus, US foreign policy is a discourse for reproducing
American identity, containing threats to its core principles and legitimating

prevent the damage it caused, people took notice. Millions of dollars in tourism, commerce and sales

(Houpe, 2010) Hayward became the face of British Petroleum during the incident, and thus became
the easy target for critics and politicians alike. Haywood appeared to know the situation; he just did
not have any clue on implementing next steps. Think of Hayward as the equivalent of a headless
animal. Without a strategy to locate the leak and cap it, there oil continued to devastate the land and
water in the Gulf. Hayward often looked like someone who are unclear of the situation and/or how to
proceed. That only fueled the problems BP faced and would move forward on containing the spill and
the following follow up. (Luce, 2010) What should have happened was BP executives, be it Hayward
or someone else, proactively come out and said what happened in the Gulf, what was being done and
its progress. That would have cleared many concerns up front and had everyone on board from the
start. Instead, the company looked the other way. Unfortunately for BP, the spill got deeper and bigger
as the days unfolded. That just added to the mounting troubles for the company. These problems were
nearly too numerous to mention. With many networking and media media tools available, the
company did little or nothing to improve its image in the public s eye. In fact, they harmed themselves

Understanding Sports Organizations Summary
Chapter three of Understanding Sport Organizations, discusses organizational goals and their
effectiveness. Throughout this chapter one will learn about the value of organizational goals, the
different types of organizational goals, effectiveness versus efficiency, and different methods on
studying organizational effectiveness. The first section in this chapter discusses the value of
perceiving the organizational goals and effectiveness of an organization. The first thing to understand
is that every organization imaginable exists for some reason, and those organizations function to
achieve some type of goal. These goals are essential to an organization because it helps convey what
that organization stands for and the purpose of that organization.

The literary Trope of a Superfluous Man in Russian...
Russian literature was very much influenced by the literary trope known as the superfluous man. This
trope was ideal for writers to describe the shortcomings of Russian high class society. There has been
a witnessed general consistency when dealing with the superfluous man such as the exhibition of
cynicism and existential angst, while indulging in vices such as affairs, gambling and duelling. These
individuals are typically from noble birth yet refused to fit into society and disregard the societal
norms. This trend can be witnessed through many examples such as Alexander Pushkin s Eugene
Onegin and Diary of a Superfluous Man by Ivan Turgenev. The characters described by these authors

Metal Fencing Pros And Cons
If you re looking to install a new fence, it s important to weigh the pros and cons of each type of
fencing material. Each type of fencing offers unique benefits to homeowners. Two of the most popular
types of fencing materials are metal, which includes aluminum, wrought iron, and steel, and different
types of wood. The metal fencing experts at Creative Iron Arts, located in Oakland, CA, explain the
benefits of choosing a metal fence. Consider these three compelling benefits to choosing metal
fencing: Adds Flair to Your Yard: Metal fences add a look of elegance to the landscape of a home. The
dark metallic finishes of these types of fences look visually appealing against porches, decks, or

Rock N Roll On American Culture
Music is often considered the universal language. Throughout history, it has symbolized love, brought
people together, and mobilized millions. In the 1950s, a new form of music entered the American
music industry that drastically changed the culture of the United States (U.S.): rock music. In the U.S.,
it began as rock n roll, an originally black music genre that was then taken and promulgated by white
Americans. After World War II (WWII), many Americans especially teenagers struggled with the
newfound societal conformity and normalcy, and rock provided them with a form of rebellion. From
its beginning, rock united the younger generation of Americans, stirring up a sense of community a

Before the 1960s, black artists were largely ignored, and black music frequently only gained
popularity if a white artist covered it.4 The Motown Record Company, located in Detroit, turned this
all on its head. Motown s owner, Berry Gordy Jr. groomed and prepared his company s artists for
mainstream success by studying successful white artists, polling on the street for interest in certain
sounds, and having Quality Control, in which every song had to be approved by Gordy and a panel of
other company members.5 Motown, also known as Hitsville USA, helped stars like Diana Ross,
Stevie Wonder, and William Smokey Robinson make it big in an industry where white individuals
dominated. Moreover, the British Invasion of the 1960s, in which British Rock bands such as the
Beatles and the Rolling Stones captured the hearts of millions of Americans, led not only to a decrease
in the former national sentiment of U.S. superiority, but also, increased respect for black music.6
Musicians like the Beatles who initially covered black American artists songs such as Anna (Go to
Him) by Arthur Alexander claimed that American rock n roll served as a initial model for their
music.7 This led to a small but meaningful increase in the credibility of black artists in the U.S. music
scene as Americans began questioning the importance of an artist s

African Americans Should Have Freedom Of Speech Persuasive...
Racism is something that has been around for a long period of time predominantly Jewish and Black
communities. Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race that they are.
Genocide and slavery have been apart of the black and Jewish community due to the amount of hate
that the were toward them races. Because of all the racism that was going on between there were many
speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black communities. Many of the
marches that took placed played a big part in the freedom of these to races especially for the African
American communities. Many of these speeches would have never been able to have taken place if we
did not have freedom of speech here in the united states. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of
speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that they
have against the black communities. I agree that people here in the United States of America should be
able to have freedom of speech but do I agree that that KKK should be able to hold hate marches and
speeches? Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer because I am an African American, so
my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical thinking that I have learned in this class I say
yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I look back to the famous speech in the black
communities that were held to lead our way to freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin
Luther King or the Million Man March was held by Minster Farrakhan there were a lot of people that
didn t believe in the movement that was happening during that time period but if it wasn t for the first
amendment in the Bill of Rights Marches and Speeches would have never been able to

Symbolism of the Number Three in Bless Me Ultima Essay...
Through Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me, Ultima, the reader notices many themes. One central, and very
important theme is the repetition of the number three. For example, there are three sources of
understand for Antonio, three deaths that Antonio witnesses, and Antonio s three prophetic dreams.
These all play crucial roles in both Antonio s life and serving to further the plot.
First, and probably most important are the three sources of understanding for Antonio. First, there is
Ultima, who serves as a neutral source of understanding and comforter for Antonio. The next source of
understanding for Antonio is God. Antonio constantly struggles to understand good and evil through
the eyes of the Catholic God. The final source of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sets up the initial conflict for Antonio, he wants to believe in his mother s God, but at the same
time he finds conviction and truth in what Samuel is telling him about the golden carp god.
Furthermore, while Antonio is supposed to be praying to God he says, There wasn t time to discover
Him, like I could do when I sat on the creek bank and watched the golden carp swim in the sun
filtered waters (233). I think this shows that Antonio feels a deeper connection to nature and the
golden carp than he does to God and traditional values. He is more like Ultima, than like either one of
his parents. The golden carp offer Antonio a way of thinking that is free and unstructured, unlike that
of Catholicism.
The final source of understanding for Antonio is God. He is expected to understand God, because his
mother dreams for him to become a priest. He is also expected to believe in God because his mother is
Catholic and that is what is expected of Antonio. I hoped that in a few years the taking of the first holy
communion would bring me understand (77). Antonio is basically going through the motions that are
expected of him. He is not genuinely excited to be taking his communion; it is just something that he
feels he needs to do. He thinks that if he takes his first communion maybe he will have some answers
for why there is good and evil going on around him. He says, I want to know. I want to know the

Who Is Chris Mccandless In Into The Wild
Spiritually connecting with oneself is a difficult and honorable journey. The complexities of achieving
our purpose in life can be a daunting but awarding task. Christopher McCandless succeeded at this.
Christopher McCandless in Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer proved that he was searching for his
purpose in life, which manifested into his hypocritical and ignorant attitude. First of all, Christopher
McCandless exploited his ignorance when blaming his parents during his journey, even though Chris
resembled their tactics. Chris s justification for his venture into the wild was because of his parents
nature, Both Father and Son were stubborn and high strung... Given Walt s need to exert control (64).
This didactic diction is meant to support
Chris s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This natural ability should have been a blessing, but McCandless grew up shaming these materialistic
values. To certain extent, Chris is correct, but his disrespect for authority was unexcusable. For
example, when working at Mcdonalds an employee said, ...the first thing he d do is peel those socks
off...kind of like a statement (400). Not only is
McCandless joining the capitalist society (that he loathed) but he is also disrespectful to the managers
of an establishment. McCandless disregard for authority exposes his ignorance and inability to operate
with others. Another instance in which McCandless was hypocritical is when he claims a revelation in
his journal, HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED (189).
Throughout the whole book McCandless keeps people at a distance (Westerberg, Franz, Burres), but
only comes to appreciate others when he s at a state of imminent death. Only at a critical time of his
journey could he discover his reason for venturing off into the wild. This reverent realization evokes
sympathy from the audience about McCandless death, but should rather expose his hypocritical
nature.
Only few people in their lives will reach a level of self actualization.

Causes Of Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle cell disease is a hereditary blood disorder most common in the African American community.
Many people are carriers of the sickle cell trait, however in order for a person to develop sickle cell
disease both parents must have passed on the trait to their child. Sickle cell disease causes a mutation
in normal red blood cells resulting in decreased tissue perfusion and organ damage. This causes partial
or complete replacement of normal hemoglobin with abnormal shaped sickled cells. An abnormal
shaped sickled cell may become lodged to a blood vessel where other cells then bind to it and begin to
form a clump. The blood vessels continually attach to each other and result in a blockage of small
blood vessels eventually resulting in organ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Reflection Of Lucretius s On The Nature Of Things
In his work, On the Nature of Things (De Rerum Natura), Lucretius sought to address superstitious
fears and unscientific notions that were embedded in his state s (Rome) religion (450). He recalls the
story of King Agamemnon having to sacrifice his daughter to appease Artemis. Upon this recollection,
he makes the claim that religion is wicked. However, unlike Lucretius s belief, true religious
faithfulness, as it relates to the Biblical God, does not lead to wickedness, but rather offers redemption
from the wicked. Titus Lucretius Carus (ca. 99 55 B.C.) dedicated his life to philosophy and found
what he believed was the meaning of things through studying the teachings of Epicurus, a third
century B.C. Athenian philosopher. Upon discovering Epicureanism, Lucretius found the work to be
liberating as it sought to address humanity s anxieties and to provide freedom from it. On the Nature
of Things can be regarded as Lucretius personal reflection of Epicurean beliefs. At the time of
Lucretius work, it was uncommon for literature to express any notion of beliefs that opposed the
traditional beliefs about the gods. Due to this, his views did not have many supporters during his own
time. However, his work was rediscovered during the Renaissance, and it is recognized as a unique
expression of Roman culture. In his poem, Lucretius intends to deliver the human spirit from
imaginary fears by presenting a purely naturalistic, materialistic interpretation of the world (450). He
believed that this belief in the supernatural was an idea that weighed down man and something they
needed to be freed from. In the opening of the passage he describes, A Greek, first raised his mortal
eyes bravely against this menace [Religion]... So his force, a vital force of mind, a conqueror explored
the vast immensities of space, with wit and wisdom, and came back to us triumphant (Lucretius 451).
Lucretius is describing the account of Epicurus and the foundation of Epicureanism. He boldly
describes Epicurus as a hero in an effort to persuade his audience of the superiority of this naturalistic
worldview. He continues to say, [he brings us] news of what can be and what cannot, limits and
boundaries, the borderline, the benchmark, set

Dorothy Parker s Waltz
The Waltz by Dorothy Parker, published in 1933 in the New Yorker, is a short story about a female
protagonist who describes her dance with a man through an internal monologue, interrupted by her
direct speech to her dance partner. The story broaches the issues of the female s social position
towards men and how they are conformed to society s conventions. While her thoughts reveal in a
cynical tone how disgusted and dismissive she feels about the waltz with the man, her external speech
expresses the wish to continue dancing. This paper will analyze the narrator s voices and on the one
hand, point out her position to her dance partner. On the other hand, it will critically view the

Not only does the protagonist express her feelings towards the man but she also reveals what the waltz
actually stands for in her narration. She feels to be trapped in her position as a wife and dancing
partner. The man she dances with is her putative husband and the waltz they are dancing is a symbol
for their marriage. Scared that this relationship will be going on like this , she wonder[s] why she didn

honest and stand up for herself as a married woman. Moreover, she does not feel any vivid emotions
anymore next to her husband, is [...] past all feelings now (Parker 51) and remembers melancholy the
days she was happily unmarried and lived an easy, peaceful time . She imagines further that the music
would almost stop, so she knows it is rather unrealistic for them to stop dancing and, hence, meaning
to be split up. She does not seem to have any confidence for progress to happen in the future. The
reason for her hopeless situation is that women [...are not] considered free and equal [...] (Sapiro 58),

However, one of the most popular forms to share and demonstrate our opinions as citizens are

on March 3, 1913 faced violent responses that included in the assault of many women. This was not
always the case. For example, a nonviolent mass direction action is the March on Washington on
August of 1963. This march was part of the Civil Rights act movement. This march led from
Washington monumental to the Lincoln Memorial and consisted of songs, chants and speeches of civil
right leaders that fought for jobs and freedom. Some of the most notable speeches that came out of this
march was Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , which is known to promote racial justice

marches are related social reforms. Some marches like the Anti War march in 2003 that voices the
opposition of the invasion of Iraq. More than 10 million people in over 600 cities joined these efforts
to voice their discontent with the Bush Administration, but many felt and still feel ignored by the
administration. In this case, no agreement or compromise could be reached. In our current society, the
rise of racial unrest led to various marches such as the Anti Trump and May Day marches. Marches
and protests are a very popular way Americans and citizens from all over the country still use to voice

all marches end up being nonviolent such as the March on Washington. In fact, many end up violently

Just as the religion brings the rise of civilisations, so has it brought the fall of many. By introducing a

The Importance Of Artificial Disasters
Natural and artificial disasters have always posed a threat to the development of countries across the
world. In that regard, different governments have already established strategies that can be
implemented to deal effectively with the disasters, which occur. It has been observed that the
developing countries are slightly behind than the developed ones regarding dealing effectively with
the disasters that occur abruptly. When a disaster occurs, the priority is to reduce the vulnerability of
people to hazards such as terror attacks and natural disasters. Therefore, to save human lives and also

The other disaster theory relates to the entire body of knowledge and human behavior. That

sources that require further exploration such as, The United States has experienced high population

Suggestions For Apsi From Billie Jean Clemens
Suggestions for APSI from Billie Jean Clemens 1. A misunderstanding still exists as to the approach of
the redesign. What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students have access to facts
at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign represents a paradigm shift in
the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all at breakneck speed and hope
something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual approach to history that emphasizes the
application of historical thinking skills while still holding students accountable for a core of
knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative conversations and the development of quality
lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what this really looks like in the classroom. 2. Above all,
the workshops need to emphasize the crucial role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach
those skills; AND, how those skills are assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework
has done a nice job of explaining these skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are
assessed on the exam. For example, in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations
explain that in a periodization essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar
to the developments that preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics
for the exam, a teacher new to the course would have to realize that both

  • 2. The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803) and will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional support (Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on interventions that diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers (Renfrew et al., 2012). Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be learned and mothers need support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding a success (Stables Rankin, 2010). This essay will aim to highlight the benefits and advantages of breastfeeding for both mother and child, and examine the support that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breastmilk provides a number of health advantages beginning at birth and continuing throughout a child s life (Kainonen et al., 2012; Pairman et al., 2015; Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a mother breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et al., 2016; Stables Rankin, 2010). The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus impacts our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed babies (Kramer Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of respiratory infections would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital admissions (Victora et al., 2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milk is also associated with a reduction in asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and childhood lymphomas (Guise et al., 2005). Due to the presence of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in breastmilk, studies have gathered that breastfeeding can also improve brain development, growth and levels of intelligence quotient (Victora et al., 2016; Huffman et al., 2011). Additionally, the prevalence of obesity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countrywide Financial Corporation and the Subprime Mortgage Debacle The McGraw−Hill Companies, 2011 Case 15 Countrywide Financial Corporation and the Subprime Mortgage Debacle Ronald W. Eastburn Case Western Reserve University Angelo Mozilo, founder and Chairman of Countrywide Financial Corporation, was the driving force behind the company s efforts to become the largest real estate mortgage originator in the United States and, according to some, was also the driving force behind the company s eventual collapse. Mortgages were available to a limited client base, with home ownership representing about 40 percent of U.S. households. Many of these short term mortgages went into default during the Great Depression as homeowners became unable to make regular payments or find new financing to pay off balloon payments that became due. The United States government intervened in the housing market in 1932 with the creation of the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB). The FHLB provided short term lending to financial institutions (primarily Savings and Loans) to create additional funds for home mortgages. Congress passed the National Housing Act of 1934 to further promote homeownership by providing a system of insured loans that protected lenders against default by borrowers. The mortgage insurance program established by the National Housing Act and administered by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) reimbursed lenders for any loss associated with a foreclosure up to 80 percent of the appraised value of the home. With the risk associated with default on FHA backed mortgage loans reduced, lenders extended mortgage loan terms to as long as 20 years and LTVs of 80 percent. • 4. Cause Of Alzheimer s Neururodegenerative Disease In the present day, there are quite several diseases that have yet to be treated and or prevented. One of those is a neurodegenerative disease called Alzheimer s. Alzheimer s is defined by a depreciation of memory and other cognitive functions that can lead to death with in 3 to 9 years after it is properly diagnosed. The disease effects more than 35 million people in the world, 5.5 million are effected right here in the United States. The main factor that is known to cause this disease that we know of right now is age. (Querfuth LaFerla, 2010) As people start to get older their body s start to deteriorate and this is when Alzheimer s is known to start taking over in the body, more specifically the brain. There are two protein abnormalities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The telomerase reverse transcriptase protein (TERT) has recently been exhibited to have a diversity of functions. The TERT protein has been to be shown to be defensive with its interaction of the mitochondria and has been hypothesized to possibly have a protective property in the human brain. (Spilsbury, Miwa, et al. 2014) To further test this theory scientist proposed and experimented on the possible functions of TERT. The study consisted of using 24 postmortem brains from consenting donors and the used of living mice. The experiment was conducted to examine the different stages of Alzheimer s disease pathology and the ability of the telomerase reverse transcriptase protein to protect against damage of the neurological systems. The data accumulated from the testing of the human brains and mice revealed that TERT when present in the subjects tested would begin to colonize with the mitochondria and Alzheimer s disease subjects and would also cluster in areas under oxidative tests. Here Louis was introduced to organized music in the form of the school band. The school band was run by Captain Joseph Jones in a military fashion that was extremely strict. This is where Louis s life changed from delinquent to a disciplined young man this was also when Louis was introduced to playing a musical instrument. • 8. The Importance Of Behavior In The Kingdom Animalia Behavior is the way that all organisms or living things respond to stimuli in their environment. Stimuli include chemicals, heat, light, touch, and gravity. For example, plants respond with growth behavior when light strikes their leaves. Behavior can be categorized as either instinctive (present in a living thing from birth) or learned (resulting from experience). The distinction between the two is often unclear, however, since learned behavior often includes instinctive elements. Plants and animals that lack a well developed nervous system rely on instinctive behavior. Higher developed animals use both instinctive and learned behavior. Generally, behavior helps organisms survive. Animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms that form the biological kingdom Animalia. With few exceptions, animals are motile (able to move), heterotrophic (consume organic material); they reproduce sexually, and their embryonic development includes a blastula stage. The body plan of the animal derives from this blastula, differentiating specialized tissues and organs as it develops; this plan eventually becomes fixed, although some undergo metamorphosis at some stage in their lives. Plants are mainly multicellular, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. The term is today generally limited to the green plants, which form an unranked clade Viridiplantae (Latin for green plants ). This includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns, clubmosses, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A study done by the RAND Corporation shows that teens are twice as likely to have sex or engage in sexual acts if they see similar sexual behavior in the media. Many objects in the media that involve sex target teens. Reality TV shows and teen dramas often portray the cool kids as the ones who are having sex (Chandra).Today s teens are highly influenced by what they see in the media and this can change their behavior and choices. Many researchers have found that this behavior is due to the media glorification that promotes teenage pregnancy (Vianna 2). By eliminating the glamorous lifestyles of teenage parents, we will help teens face the reality that being a parent is ultimately difficult. The teen parents should help send out the message that it is hard to live life as a teenage parent and that television shows don t fully depict the hardships that come along with raising children. Instead of having shows that glamorize pregnancy, we should have shows that educate teens on the real facts of being pregnant. Too many shows out there demonstrate how teen moms have help from their parents, baby s father, and their friends. By showing teens that such outcomes are rare, and the truth is most of them don t have the cash flow that celebrities have, they ll end up struggling and facing the fact that raising children is complicated. Many of the teen moms have parents and nannies to help care for their children and this wouldn t be the case for most teens. Cases such as Jamie Lynn Spears show how a teenager can be put into the spotlight while making pregnancy seem fun and cool. In fact the hypodermic needle theory states that passive audiences are directly influenced by media. On the other hand, from a Marxist perspective, one can argue the opposite that it is the audiences who influence the information which is produced via the media. In this essay this group assessed and contrasted the media of three countries namely Singapore, Jamaica and Bolivia in relation to their respective economy, society, values and political system. These three countries differ gravely in terms of their cultures, norms economic activities, religions and even social ills etc and yet despite these differences, they all share one thing in common media coverage. In addition, each country has rules and regulations geared towards the protection of journalists although sometimes such are not enforced fully. • 11. The Criminal Justice System Is Fair And True Most people in America believe that our criminal justice system is fair and true. The idea that any free citizen could be unjustly sentenced to prison or executed by the state is thought of as false. Unfortunately now a days the judicial process has been infiltrated with false confessions, eyewitness misidentification, improper forensic science, perjury, ineffective defense counsels, messy police investigations and prosecutorial misconduct. Our criminal justice system is based on the concept that every wrong has a cause and effect, thus forcing us to punish any and all offenders, but with all the faults in our system how do we know who s guilty of committing the crime? Most of the time this is when wrongful convictions occurs. A simple definition of wrongful conviction is when innocent defendants are found guilty in criminal trials. Frequently these innocent defendants are forced to go as far as to plead guilty to avoid death penalties or long prison sentences. The Number of wrongly convicted persons cannot be known with certainty, because no federal or state agency keeps track of exonerations, let alone wrongful convictions. Many news stories, reports and books fairly describe wrongful convictions in detail, although not all of these wrongful convictions resulted in formal exonerations. In some of these cases, prosecutors insisted that the original verdict was accurate despite strong new evidence of factual innocence, further clouding an understanding of wrongful ... The Contemporary Foreign Policy Of The United States The contemporary foreign policy of the United States represents an evolving continuum of principles, conceptions and strategies that in part, derived from the particularistic American Cold War experience. As such, United States foreign policy is neither a static entity, nor is its intentions or direction uncontested. This essay will examine the underlying issues of identity and how, beginning with the Truman Doctrine, a distinct articulation of the national interest was evinced that has defined America s role in the world. In doing so, focus will be given to the development of alliance policy, containment and its effect on transforming the US posture in the post Cold War international order. Firstly, it is pertinent to reconsider the traditional narratives that underpin American identity. Inherent in this is Manifest Destiny, which asserts that Anglo Saxon American s are God s chosen people, with a superior culture and who are pre ordained to spread civilisation to inferior peoples (Hollander 2009, 169). This tradition offers instructive themes for the formulation of American exceptionalism and its manifestation into a missionary foreign policy (Hoffmann 1968, 369). It also raises to the forefront the Manichean character of American policy, its solipsism and tendency to justify geopolitical objectives in moralistic terms (Lepgold 1995, 372). Thus, US foreign policy is a discourse for reproducing American identity, containing threats to its core principles and legitimating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. What Is The Reflection Of Lucretius s On The Nature Of Things In his work, On the Nature of Things (De Rerum Natura), Lucretius sought to address superstitious fears and unscientific notions that were embedded in his state s (Rome) religion (450). He recalls the story of King Agamemnon having to sacrifice his daughter to appease Artemis. Upon this recollection, he makes the claim that religion is wicked. However, unlike Lucretius s belief, true religious faithfulness, as it relates to the Biblical God, does not lead to wickedness, but rather offers redemption from the wicked. Titus Lucretius Carus (ca. 99 55 B.C.) dedicated his life to philosophy and found what he believed was the meaning of things through studying the teachings of Epicurus, a third century B.C. Athenian philosopher. Upon discovering Epicureanism, Lucretius found the work to be liberating as it sought to address humanity s anxieties and to provide freedom from it. On the Nature of Things can be regarded as Lucretius personal reflection of Epicurean beliefs. At the time of Lucretius work, it was uncommon for literature to express any notion of beliefs that opposed the traditional beliefs about the gods. Due to this, his views did not have many supporters during his own time. However, his work was rediscovered during the Renaissance, and it is recognized as a unique expression of Roman culture. In his poem, Lucretius intends to deliver the human spirit from imaginary fears by presenting a purely naturalistic, materialistic interpretation of the world (450). He believed that this belief in the supernatural was an idea that weighed down man and something they needed to be freed from. In the opening of the passage he describes, A Greek, first raised his mortal eyes bravely against this menace [Religion]... So his force, a vital force of mind, a conqueror explored the vast immensities of space, with wit and wisdom, and came back to us triumphant (Lucretius 451). Lucretius is describing the account of Epicurus and the foundation of Epicureanism. He boldly describes Epicurus as a hero in an effort to persuade his audience of the superiority of this naturalistic worldview. He continues to say, [he brings us] news of what can be and what cannot, limits and boundaries, the borderline, the benchmark, set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dorothy Parker s Waltz The Waltz by Dorothy Parker, published in 1933 in the New Yorker, is a short story about a female protagonist who describes her dance with a man through an internal monologue, interrupted by her direct speech to her dance partner. The story broaches the issues of the female s social position towards men and how they are conformed to society s conventions. While her thoughts reveal in a cynical tone how disgusted and dismissive she feels about the waltz with the man, her external speech expresses the wish to continue dancing. This paper will analyze the narrator s voices and on the one hand, point out her position to her dance partner. • 42. Suggestions For Apsi From Billie Jean Clemens Suggestions for APSI from Billie Jean Clemens 1. A misunderstanding still exists as to the approach of the redesign. What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students have access to facts at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign represents a paradigm shift in the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all at breakneck speed and hope something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual approach to history that emphasizes the application of historical thinking skills while still holding students accountable for a core of knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative conversations and the development of quality lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what this really looks like in the classroom. 2. Above all, the workshops need to emphasize the crucial role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach those skills; AND, how those skills are assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework has done a nice job of explaining these skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are assessed on the exam. For example, in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations explain that in a periodization essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar to the developments that preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics for the exam, a teacher new to the course would have to realize that both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
