The Ebola Virus In Richard Preston s The Hot Zone
Richard Preston s novel The Hot Zone, was based on a true story about the origins and incidents
involving viral hemorrhagic fevers, mainly the Ebola and Marburg viruses. It primarily focuses
on the Ebola virus first documented outbreak during the 1980s. As you read The Hot Zone, you
will notice that it has been divided into four individual segments. The first segment looks into the
history of filoviruses, and how AIDS emerged. The novel begins with Charles Monet, an elderly
man who travels to Kitum Cave in Kenya. After coming in contact with an odd liquid substance,
he begins to experience symptoms of the Marburg Virus (abbreviated as MARV ), which includes;
headaches, backaches, internal organs failing, and excessive bleeding. Monet travels to the
Nairobi Hospital and ends up infecting the young Doctor that treated him. Years after Monet s
passing, a young pathologist named Nancy Jaax is introduced. Her story was told in her point of
view as she describes the Introduction to Viruses, Biosafety Levels, and... Show more content on

Jaax promoted to work in Level 4 Biosafety containment area at USAMRIID (commonly referred to
as the Institution ), and assigned to research the Ebola virus. Monkeys were used to research Ebola
s effects on humans, hopefully, provide clues to its whereabouts, and develop a cure.
Veterinarians who supervised the monkeys, send tissue samples to Jaax and her colleagues, who
determine that if an illness is a strain of Ebola. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) decide to
enter The Monkey House to destroy the animals to avoid a potentially worldwide epidemic. This
entire site was regarded as a Hot Zone , and hundreds of monkeys were killed. During the said
approach, a number of incidents occurred and delayed the approached. This included a ventilated
suit running out of battery power and a monkey waking up on the operating table then biting a
soldier. Fortunately, the facility was sterilized so the scientists may resume

Research Report On Outdoor Learning
having a more positive and detailed response to the questions.
Findings
1.Access to outdoor learning.
The primary research findings have highlighted that pupils within the lower foundation phase, gain
more frequent opportunities and length of time in outdoor learning than the children in upper
foundation phase (Figures 2 and 3). All the respondents agreed that outdoor learning is beneficial
for children concurring with White (2008), Tovey (2007) and Learning through Landscapes (2010)
that children have a lack of access to the outdoor experience in their home life so it is important for
schools to provide outdoor provision.

1.2 Children s access to outdoor learning.
Indicated in Figure 2 the findings show pupils are provided with frequent opportunities to access
outdoor learning. However, four out of five respondents in the upper foundation phase, who ticked
to say access was provided every day also commented to say this was dependent on the weather.
Since the study was completed during the spring/summer term, it would be interesting to see if the
findings would have prompted different results if it was completed in the autumn/winter term. The
interviewee s response to how the weather impacted on outdoor learning suggested during cold
weather they felt it was a health and safety risk for pupils and staff to access all activities in the
outdoor environment. Therefore, this concurs with WISERD (2014) report, which highlighted time
of year has an impact on the frequency of outdoor learning opportunities. Figure 2. How much time
staff gives children access to outdoor learning.
1.3 Average time children gain access to outdoor provision in lower and upper foundation phase.
Lower and upper foundation phase offer opportunities for free flow access to the outdoors, however,
during the interview and some respondents of the questionnaires revealed that staff felt children
should have more focused and planned opportunities within the outdoor learning

What Is The Journey Of The Road Essay
After a short flight from Durban, we arrived in Port Elizabeth, where we were to start the drive
through the Garden Route to Cape Town, I once again reviewed our itinerary. The narratives I read
about the Garden Route from our itinerary and other travel brochures, made my nomadic heart beat
faster.
The Garden Route was incredible. It stretches for less than 300 km, yet the range of topography,
vegetation, wildlife is remarkable: indigenous temperature forest, pine plantations and fynbos (thick
bush), mountains running alongside rocky coves and beaches, gorges, rivers, lagoons and mountain
passes.
While tourism may have taken over much of the coast, and tree plantations for commercial use may
have taken their toll on the forest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We stayed in Knysna for 3 nights and our hotel was nestled on the banks of a lagoon alright. While
relaxing in the hotel patio, I saw colorful birds and sea birds.
The following day, we ferried along the lagoon to the mouth of the open sea to Featherbed
Nature Reserve for an eco adventure tour. From the lagoon, I saw the Knysna Heads two
enormous sandstone cliffs that stand like sentries at the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon from the
sea. While traveling by a four wheel drive to the top of the hill, our local guide talked about the
flora and fauna, and the Blue Duiker, one of the smallest and most endangered of the antelope,
found in the area. Even though I did not see a Blue Duiker, I was not totally disappointed for
when we reached the top of the hill we were treated to a stunning view of the blue skies of South
Africa reflected on the ever flowing waters of the ocean. (picture)
I have always been fascinated by the power of water and its hold on the human heart and
imagination. So, I joined our local guide on a two kilometer hike through the milk wood forests
and onto the sandstone cliffs that feature arches, caves, cliffs and other wonders. It was absolutely
amazing. Two days later, we said goodbye to Knysna and continued to a scenic drive that took us
along the Outeniqua Pass, deep gorges and ravines, and misty mountains.
The scenery turned a little less dramatic and arid as we neared Oudtshoorn,

Harper Lee Historical Context
Author Background and Historical Context
Nelle Harper Lee, better known as Harper Lee, was born on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville,
Alabama. She went on to further her education at Huntington College, University of Alabama at
Tuscaloosa, and Oxford University. (Harper). She was the author of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel
, To Kill A Mockingbird, that was published in 1960 about a family in Maycomb County in
southern Alabama. She incorporated her mother and father into major points of the novel. She
made the main family have part of her mother s name, Finch, and one of the lesser families have
another part of her mother s name, Cunningham (NEA). Her father was a lawyer in southern
Alabama, much like the father of the Finch family. Her father once defended two African American
men that were accused of murdering a storekeeper and lost the case like Atticus Finch does in the
novel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel race and societal standards plays a major role in the conflicts throughout.
Lee was very active in the Civil Rights movement that progressed throughout the sixties. During
the sixties, African Americans were constantly dealing with racism and poverty because of their
skin color they were unable to find work and if they did it had little pay. Furthermore, the Civil
Rights Act was being pushed through the government to prohibit discrimination in public places of
African Americans (History). Race issues were apart of every day life during the time the book

You Ll Be In My Heart Literary Devices
Heart. Memories. Wishes. My first song is You ll be In My Heart By Phil Collins. In this song
the literary device used to convey the theme of when someone loses someone important to them,
they will be by there side forever and never leave is repetition. My second song choice is My
Wish By Rascal Flatts. In this song the literary device pathos helps convey the theme of never
giving up on dreams and when other people doubt other people s goals but they continue to keep
moving forward.
The song You ll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins and the novel, Jeremy Fink and The Meaning of
Life by Wendy Mass, both use repetition to get across the common theme of when someone
loses someone important to them they will be by their side forever and never leave. In the song,
Phil Collins writes, You ll be here in my heart. Always. Always I ll be with you. I ll be there for you
always. Always and always. (line 48 52). This highlights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the song, Rascal Flatts writes, My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it
to, Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, You never need to carry more than you can
hold. (lines 9 11). This implies that the person writing the song wants you to reach your goals and
continue on and not have to carry regret on your shoulders. They want you to take risks and
suceed at your goals. In the letter that Mr. Fink left for Jeremy it said, What matters is holding
tight to that string, and and not letting anyone tell us our goals aren t big enough or our interest are
silly. (pg.272). This proves that Mr. Fink wanted Jeremy to hold on tight to his dreams and linterest

Historical Purpose Of Philomena
The film Philomena, directed by Stephen Frears, brings to light only a portion of the injustices
faced by unwed mothers in Ireland during the mid late 1900 s. Due to such heavy religious
regard in the State, if any girl was to get pregnant outside of wedlock, she would be forced to leave
her home and live in a convent, referred to as mother and baby homes, where she would endure
many sufferings which were hidden from the public eye. Among these miseries, the most
heartbreaking one would be the constant fear of the nuns selling your baby through an illegal
adoption and never seeing your own child again. After leaving the convent, many of these women
would hide their shame and keep this part of their life a secret.
The plot of this film follows the true story of a 19 year old girl, Philomena Lee, who suffered
such pain and a life of silence and sorrow after her child was taken from her in one of the many
illegal adoptions at the Roscrea Abbey, the convent where she was placed upon becoming
pregnant. The film was released in 2013 and takes place in present day Ireland as the, now, ... Show

This means that its original purpose was not to teach its audience about historical truths of the past,
but to entertain. Hollywood has a purpose, and that purpose is to make money. To do this,
filmmakers do not have a choice but to tinker with the history of our times. If a filmmaker was to
create an exact visual representation of the written history, the film would be quite boring.
Therefore, filmmakers must dramatize their works in order to create a successful movie that will
achieve its original purpose: to entertain while bringing in high revenue. In Philomena, Frears uses
intense lighting and dramatic music, among other features, to aid in this dramatization, adding
suspense and excitement in the

The Effects Of Sleep On Respiratory Diseases
Introduction
Almost half of children s life is spent asleep. Therefore, it is important for the clinicians to know
the effect of sleep on respiratory diseases. (Marcus, 2001) Sleep disordered breathing may lead to
serious and miserable complications such as sleep fragmentation, cognitive and behavioral changes,
growth retardation, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. Unfortunately the prevalence of
sleep related breathing disorders is high (3 12% of pediatric population); obstructive sleep apnea
syndrome alone affects 3% of children.(Church 2012) Before the development of sleep studies,
pediatricians mainly depended on history and physical examination for the diagnosis of sleep
disorders. Researchers have tried to formulate clinical score questionnaires as an alternative to
polysomnography. For the first time in 1984, the role of history and physical examination in the
diagnosis of OSAS was assessed by Brouillete. However, several studies have demonstrated that
clinical presentation alone cannot differentiate sleep related breathing disorders such as primary
snoring from OSAS. Brietzke SE (Brietzke, Katz et al. 2004) showed that only 55.8% of patients
were identified by clinical presentation as OSAS; were confirmed by polysomnography later. This
unreliability could be caused by several factors; the most significant one is inaccuracy of history as
some parents may overestimate difficulties in

Descriptive Essay On A Summer Camp
Bill come on time to go! Tom s mom screamed. Every summer Tom has to go to summer camp.
His parents are traveling all the time because of work. Bill really doesn t like to go, he s not the
athletic type. Tom does not have a lot of friends and keeps to himself. As bill walks down the
stairs to the car he feels a little overwhelmed. Bill has gone to the campthree summers in a row and
feels weirded out when he s near the woods. The camp counselors don t like it when kids go to the
woods by themselves, apparently kids have disappeared but the counselors don t talk about it too
much.
The car ride there is long. To get there you have to go far from town. You could see huge trees
swaying back and forth as you pass by, it s a little creepy. Bill arrived to the eerie camp, he saw all
the kids with their parents trying to check in and get to know the grounds. The car came to a
stop and Bill and his mom got out the car. It was a long ride there so it took Bill a minute to
stretch out. Bill and his mom walk up to the front desk, there was a young man at the desk
looked like he was not in a good mood. The man began to speak Hello and welcome to camp, do
you need a room? the man said angrily. Um yes please. Bill s mom said, but Bill zoend out the rest
of the conversation. Bill I have to go now, Bill s mom said I love you and please don t get in
trouble your room number is 122. Ok mom love you too. Bill said. His mom gave him a kiss on
the cheek, gave him his room number and bags and left.
Bill walked through the huge camp and looked for his room number. Bill has been at the camp
multiply times so it was not hard to find. 122 must be mine room Bill said out loud. The room
was not in the best condition, moss was on the outside and the grass was a little dead. Bill walk
up slowly to the door and knocked three times, Hello is anyone home. You usually get a room
mate. Come in! the other person yelled from inside. Great, Bill was hoping no one would be
home. Bill opened the creaking door slowly. When he entered he saw a boy around 14 his age
sitting on one of the two beds. Hi my names Tom, what s your name? The boy said. I m Bill. Bill
does not have friends and he keeps to himself, so he a little shy.

Commentary On Nature Shock, By Ashley Merryman
Ashley Merryman, co author of Nature Shock, (NY Times, Oct. 6, 2016) in Forget Trophies, Let
Kids Know It s O.K. to Lose argues that there is nothing wrong with losing because failure can
actually be helpful. I passionately agree with this. Marryman begins by stating the negative
outcome of children always earning trophies despite of their participation or accomplishment in
which it is teaching children that losing is so terrible. She states that this it is as destructive
message. She believes that children look up to their parents aspect on defeats and achievements
and cites evidence from a study to prove her point. She also claims that the main way for children
to succeed is to acknowledge their mistakes. She argues that it is... Show more content on

John Dickinson, a founding father, drafted a copy called The Articles of Confederation and proposed
it to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. The document was put in use for a while, but it
lacked certain powers such as a strong national government and the permission to tax. It failed. The
founding fathers, who paid close attention to these errors, fixed it by creating the U.S. Constitution.
It is an outstanding document with government principles that still stand up until this moment. At
first, the founding fathers failed at creating a self governing document; however, they, being aware
of their mistakes, succeeded by drafting another successful document. This concludes that
visualizing and experiencing one s problems can lead to triumph. I personally can relate to this
statement. For example, I participate in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) event called
Calculator Applications. I remember the first time I attended a meet and did my calculator test on a
Saturday morning. It was a thirty minute test with seventy questions. I patiently waited for my
test score in the school s cafeteria after the test administrators had released us from the test area.
Three or four hours had passed, and Mr. Pesina, my UIL math coach, handed me my test back with
a slightly embarrassed, disappointed look. As soon as I glanced at it, a huge twenty two stood out
apart from the test directions. I was extremely

In the county of Monterey there are curfews that are established as a law for young adults. Being
younger than 18 it is illegal to go outside passed 10 or 11 pm. This city is considered or is one of

Salinas Valley. Many gang activities are related to the nortenos who their main colors are red.
Having said about gangs, juvenile violence is one of the most known in this city. Having a curfewin

The Effects Of Internet On The Internet
Negative Effects of the Internet Over time, the Internet is one of the best inventions and source to
get knowledge about any desired aspect. Using the Internet has become a necessary, daily routine.
The Internet has allowed people to stay in contact with others, be updated with the latest things
happening in the world, and get knowledge of anything we want within seconds. However, the
Internet is not just benefiting people but also harming people. The overuse of Internet has brought
many negative effects upon people. In the essays Isolated by the Internet , by Clifford Stoll, The
Flight from Conversation , by Sherry Turkle, and Addicted to Technology by Gary Small and Gigi
Vorgan, the authors share the common perspective that over using the Internet negatively effects
individuals. In their opinions the use of Internet has negatively affected people mentally, socially,
and has made them addicted to the Internet. These effects brought concerns such as isolation,
depression, addiction, loneliness, stress, weak social ties, anonymity, and altering identities.
Personally, I agree with the authors opinion of the use of Internet and its mental, social, and
addictive effects towards people. Although, the Internet is sufficient to an individual there are many
downs that have become serious issues in society today.
Even though the Internet can bring happiness to an individual, the overuse of the Internet has
mentally effects people by depression, stress, loneliness, and anxiety.

The Role Of Law In The Common Law
Introduction
The essentials originally required to form a valid contract consist of an offer, a subsequent
acceptance and consideration. However, since the nineteenth century, another requirement
concerning the existence of an intention to create legal relations was added . It is important to note
that the common law does not include this as a requirement and therefore it has caused controversy
in the legal sphere with many inauspicious comments being raised regarding its necessity.
This essay explains intention to create legal relations as a requirement and how it is applied by
examining how it has been applied with reference to relevant case law. In this context this essay
will further present the two opposing views regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Domestic and social agreements
Sometimes the nature of an agreement clearly determines that there was no intention to be legally
bound. In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not
intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted.
There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle.
The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is
upheld. In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of ВЈ30
while he was away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the
allowance. It is important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good
relations at the time the husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was
no intention to create legal relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ
stated that it was a family matter .
The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in
fact be rebutted. In this case a husband promised his wife that he would transfer their house to her
sole ownership after she paid the mortgage off. After the wife paid off the mortgage, the husband
refused to transfer the house to her. This case differs from the previous one as the couple in this
case was separated at the time they had made this

Essay on Confucianism and Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucian and Daoist views were important for the shaping and
development of mankind in the past. They were views that existed among the eastern Asian
countries. They had both similarities and differences in the way they shaped out self knowledge
and self cultivation. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories.
Nature and art were said to have helped shape the humanrace as we know it. Confucianism and
Daoism seem to be complete polar opposites but there are some similarities between the two. One
way that they are similar is that they both focus on the goal of self improvement. Their teachings

Do not be upset, do not be startled; all things will order themselves. (Cleary 39) Rather than
disturbing the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control,
they allow nature to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self
knowledge can be determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of
spending more time with society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad
and promote virtue. Daoism gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that
there is more to the world than can be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can
be flawed by lack of understanding the whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life
with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful action) which allows nature to show humans their
ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in Confucianism in development as it does for
Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings from society and strive for the ideal of a
gentleman or perfect man . One thing that is said to be determined by nature is that Confucius
never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that By nature men are similar; by practice
men are wide apart (Lun Yu). Daoism has everything to do with nature. It plays the most important
role in human development and knowledge . It states that humans should help

Political Bumper Sticker Analysis
By knowing now what ideology represents lets take a look at one of the most basic political
example Political bumper stickers. In the most elementary Political way a bumper sticker for
the presidential candidates on a car is a Political gesture. A lot of people drive around with
bumper stickers saying Vote Obama, Berny Sanders 2016, and so on. People who see the
bumper sticker will make the assumption that the driver is involved in politics, they believe
what the candidate stands for and that the person is an involved voter. However, if you ask
them, they are not aware of all the policies the candidate stands for nor do they agree with every
single one. They simply post the sticker on their bumper because is what a lot of people do when

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN The Hush of Thunder Rock Several gnomes lowered a rowboat into
the bubbly pale purple sea. We piled in and started paddling toward the shore. From my vantage
point, I could see that the island was rather large and egg shaped. The volcanoes were positioned
near the center, and pitted glaciers lined the far side. Once we landed, the captain pulled our tiny
craft onto the sand. Some of the lounging mermaids nodded indignantly at us, as if suggesting we
had no right to intrude on their sunbathing. Then they slowly slithered on their elbows over the
sand toward the water s edge and dove in. I watched as they swam away, flapping their tails in
disgust. Some remained and simply ignored us. Emma laughed. I guess that s our welcoming party.

Cotton Gin Research Paper
THE COTTON GIN A cotton gin is a machine that quickly and easily separates the cotton fibers
from the seeds, a job formerly performed by hand. The fibers are processed into cotton goods, and
the seeds may be used to grow more cotton, to produce cottonseed oil, or, if they are badly
damaged, are disposed of. The gin uses a combination of a wire screen and small wire hooks to pull
the cotton through, while brushes continuously remove the loose cotton lint to prevent jams. The
modern version of the cotton gin was created by the American inventor Eli Whitney in 1793 to
mechanize the cleaning of cotton. The invention was granted a patent on March 14, 1794. There is
slight controversy over whether the idea of the cotton gin and its constituent elements... Show more

Watt s engine used 75% less coal than Newcomen s, and was much cheaper to run. Watt proceeded
to develop his engine further, modifying it to provide a rotary motion suitable for driving factory
machinery. This enabled factories to be sited away from rivers, and further accelerated the pace of
the Industrial Revolution. Newcomen s and Watt s early engines were atmospheric , meaning that
they were powered by the vacuum generated by condensing steam instead of the pressure of
expanding steam. Cylinders had to be large, as the only usable force acting on them was
atmospheric pressure. Steam was only used to compensate for the atmosphere allowing the piston
to move back to its starting position. Around 1800, Richard Trevithick introduced engines using
high pressure steam. These were much more powerful than previous engines and could be made
small enough for transport applications. Thereafter, technological developments and improvements
in manufacturing techniques (partly brought about by the adoption of the steam engine as a power
source) resulted in the design of more efficient engines that could be smaller, faster, or more
powerful, depending on the intended

Prefiguration In Calovary
A.Interpretive Process (pre figuration, configuration, and re figuration)
If God s wider presence is real on the earth in cultural artifacts like Calvary, how do we identity or
discern it? Put differently, how do we carefully make theological meaning out of Calvary? In Time
and Narrative, Paul Ricoeur links Aristotle s characterization of narrative and suggests three stages
of interpretation. He calls them mimesis1 (prefiguration), minesis2 (configuration), and mimesis3
(refiguration). Ricoeur states, A prefigured time becomes a refigured time through the mediation of
a configured time. Mimesis1 describes that human acting is always already prefigured with certain
basic competencies. So for a prefiguration of Calvary, I will talk about ... Show more content on

A Plot of Calvary
In this section, I will first outline the plot of Calvary. Then I will point out that there are two major
themes in the film. The first one is the human side of a Catholic priest. The second one is the
Catholic Church.
Calvary opens with the line from Augustine, Do not despair; one of the thieves was saved. Do
not presume; one of the thieves was damned. John Michael McDonagh attempts to tell a story of
Father James Lavelle (Brendan Gleeson) in tension and in darkness. The story starts in a
confessional, where Father James hears the voice of an obscured penitent about his story. A
priest had raped him since he was seven. Now he is going to kill Father James at the beach one
week, because Father James is a good priest. With full knowledge of Father James innocence, he
explains that killing a good priest would catch more attention than killing a bad one. After all, the
abuser is dead. As a priest of a small rural parish in Streedah Ireland, Father James knows who is
behind the screen, but we, the viewers, do not. The film invites us to participate in a not yet solved

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Academic Ranking
The Academic ranking is one of the priorities in the society including the students, University,
Higher education etc. However, there are some of the advantages and disadvantages using
academic ranking. More importantly, it is still useful because using this can be our basis in
applying college admission and the course we would like to take.
Since URAP is an academic performance based ranking, publication constitutes the basis of the
ranking methodology. All the bio metric data used in the URAP ranking were gathered from the
Incites database of private analytic (Corap, 2016). At any rate, all the academic ranking must have
done the proper process for the judges to know that they are worthy of the ranking they are in.
Moreover, the students who passed the criteria of being an honor student, a politician and so on are
the one who followed the process properly.
Ranking Methodologies: Selection of Universities, Ranking criteria, and weights; a quality of
education, quality of faculty, research output, a size of the institution (Cheng and Liu, 2005).
Furthermore, when someone wants to include himself/herself be an honor student there are
methods to be followed. On the contrary, there is a difference between methods from criteria.

For most institutions, it would be far better to focus on planning strategy that strengthens an
institution s competitive position on a substantive basis: differentiation based on educational
approach, student experience, innovative teaching, and the like. In short, for most, trying to game
the ranking numbers is a fool s errand (Art Science Group, 2013). Some western schools are
focusing on how they can make their student be more competitive than collecting data to make

Analysis Of The Movie Sing
Money is the best motivator in the country. In the movie Sing it shows how using a cash reward
will generate more participants in the talent show. The movie is about a koala, Mr. Moon, who
owns a failing theatre. In an attempt to generate more revenue to pay off his bank debts he decides
to host a singing competition and offers a prizeof one thousand dollars to the winner. His secretary
accidently puts one hundred thousand dollars on the fliers. Before they could be looked over, the
fliers fell out of the window and landed all around town. The next day a ton of auditioners showed
up. When the one hundred thousand dollar rewardis brought up Mr. Moon doesn t correct them
with the right amount since it was because of the enormous cash prize that so many participants
came out. Though Sing is a cartoon movie, there are many different versions of this type of show
in real life such as American Idol. Fear factor is another example of an American television show
that portrays the crazy things people will do for money. This movie shows how important money
is by the characterization and setting; through this it reflects America s love for money. How the
characters come off and their backgrounds show that the money was the reason they decided to try
for their dreams. This is particularly true for two characters, Rosita the pig and Johnny the gorilla.
Rosita is portrayed as a common housewife with two dozen or more piglets running around her
home. Throughout the movie she breaks the

Menace II Society Essay
Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the hustler lifestyle and is
struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and
the characters around him violate many of society s norms. Throughout the film, the characters
swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones,
commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people
unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in
this film were, [Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and
armed robbery. It s funny like that in the hood sometimes. You never

However, he sees his only option of obtaining signs of wealth, like a nice car, are via street crime.
Thus, Caine s deviance can be attributed to Strain Theory as well. Caine takes the deviant path
of an innovator in order to achieve cultural goals. For instance, he makes and sells drugs for
money and he mugs a man in order to get nice rims for his new car. Caine rarely shows any
intention of using institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never
fit for some boring job. However, it must also be considered that Caine was born into a family
that belonged to an urban slum and whose way of life had crime woven into it. Caine grew up
watching his father and his father s friends deal drugs while rarely working normal jobs. He
claimed that he even learned how to make drugs from his father. As a result, it becomes evident
that Caine had all the opportunity in the world to be turned on to the life of a hustler since it was
the same life his father led and that his friends would later live as well. In this way, Caine s life is
an ideal example of illegitimate opportunity theory since crime was fused into his way of life.
Growing up a young black man in an urban slum certainly did not deter Caine from deviating
either. He grew up with the stigma of a young Black man. This master status led Caine to believe
that other people, specifically non Blacks, always thought that young black men were always in
trouble. For example, when Caine

Nitric Oxide Response Paper
Nitric Oxide is a gas produced naturally by the body that plays an important role in blood pressure
and circulation and is one of the most potent dilators there is. A growing supplement industry and
interest in resistance training has led to the creation of Pump supplements : nitric oxide
supplements marketed for resistance exercise as a way to increase vascularity and enhance
performance in skeletal muscle. Instead of nitric oxide, the supplements contain arginine, a
precursor to NO in the body, and nitrates. The goal of these supplements is to promote bloodflow to
muscle by increasing vasodilation and improving skeletal muscles ability to respond to exercise.
Supplement retailers promote claims that nitric oxide supplements promote recovery rates and
enhance endurance performance . Research on these supplements is limited as they are relatively

seen. Kelly et al. (2014) noted that in conditions of normoxia they did not observe effects of
supplementation on exercise. Alvares et al. (2012) and Haider and Folland (2014) used a
relatively low number of repetitions and may not have induced hypoxia in subjects during the
trials. Trials designed with more repetitions and aimed at reaching muscle fatigue would be good
next steps in studying potential benefits of nitrate and arginine supplementation for training. Haider

calcium sensitivity of cross bridges could be caused by nitrate

The Technology Upgrade Chapter 4 Summary
Chapter Four The Technology Upgrade Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books
talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform
classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to
reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being
scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for
communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology
sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use
technology more is to add a technology upgrade to your usual activities. Activities such as lectures,
student writing, student research, class discussions, math problems, plays and skits, and student
speeches. These are just a few examples, use basic technology, spreadsheets, and software in which
your students are already comfortable with to replace or enhance your traditional activities. Some
benefits of upgrading technology are being able to teach in different learning styles for students

Student projects that involve technology elements cannot be evaluated by paper and pencil tests,
so the teacher s ability to create an assessment tool that clearly explains the desired level of
technology skill is important. Developing a rubric or checklist of what is expected from students
can improve the teacher s instruction. Technology can add to your assessment; make sure you
describe what you want in concrete terms, use examples of previous quality work, and make sure
the tools are given to students at the time when the assignment is given. In addition, use the
assessment tool to help guide revisions, use different assessors, and revise your tools each time their

My Understanding Of Personality Theory
To demonstrate my understanding of personality theory, I choose to create a personality profile
for a close friend. She is a very driven individual with some unique interests. I wanted to evaluate
her personality because she is a very close friend of mine and I know her vary well. I chose
Allport s trait theory because he uses 3 types of traits to describe people. I liked the way he
organized traits in to types of traits. I think its easier to understand his theory because of the
organization. I organized my friend s traits in to 3 categories: central, secondary, and cardinal.
Allport s theory focuses on individual differences. His theory suggest that individuals differ in
the traits that predominate in there personalities. some traits are common; others are unique
(Cloninger 2013 page 128). He goes on to explain that some traits are individual or unique while
others are common. Central traits can affect everyday behaviors. these are traits that your close
friends or family would be able to point out if asked. Examples of my friends central traits would
be: optimistic, out spoken, individualistic, and extroverted. I use these terms to describe her
because I have noticed them consistently. Over time and various situations, I have seen her
behavior follow these traits. My friend is on the executive board of an RSO. She enjoys talking to
can spending time with the other members of her RSO. She also likes talking to new and potential

Management of Sport Development
Sports development should be focused on mass participation not elite talent identification. Discuss.
Sports development is something which by definition caters for both the masses as well as elite
athletes. However after recent spending reviews more light has been thrown on the question,
which does deserve more funding and resources? In answering this question a lot of analysis has
to go in to what it is that the government want out of sport and what do they consider good results

both feed into each other. However where should we focus predominantly? Historically sports

British Athletic Federation, that they don t know whether to adopt a policy of sport for all or

short sighted polices which aim to balance their spending; however as a result they have directly
cut the provision of disciplines played by a large number of people, in what seems to be an
attempt to move towards elite sport. This is something that I would not endorse as cutting
programs which are engaged with seems like a decisive step away from the general aims of the
government which is to increase participation in sport. By cutting programs like cross country they
are not only contradicting themselves but showing that the public are not the main concern, also
making it forthright that governing bodies are miss using the revenue given to them by the
government by cutting programs which are played by all people. The problem with sport policy is
very apparent, being that the government are not sure who should get funding. This is primarily
because they are unable to conceptualize what it is that sport development is, as such can t

Aluminum Ware Mat Reinforced Polyester Composite
ABSTRACT
Aluminum ware mat reinforced Polyester Composite has been developed to find out an alternative
structural material. The physical and mechanical characteristics that are Tensile strength, Flexural
strength, Water absorption, Hardness etc. illustrate the competency of the developed composite. It
is found that Water Absorbency, Tensile strength
, Flexural strength, hardness stiffness increase with
increasing of Metal Mat layer in the composite which is estimated maximum for the three Metal
Mat layered composite and minimum for the zero layered composite. Mechanical properties of the
composite increase with the increase of metal mat layer. All the properties suggest the use of the
composite as an unbeaten structural material but water uptake evades its outside use.
INTRODUCTION:
Metal reinforced Polyester composite has been increasingly drawn the attention of the researchers
for the last decades. Light weight along with high strength materials can replace traditional
construction materials used in building engineering, aeronautics, mechanical engineering and in
many other domains. It is related to a possibility of obtaining practically any combination of
beneficial properties of the material, e.g. high vibration damping coefficient, high abrasion
resistance, high value of the Young s modulus, low specific gravity and low coefficient of thermal
expansion [1, 2, 3, 4] .
This project is concerned with metal mat reinforced polymer (MMP) composites where high

Physical Treatment Of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is defined as the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical method.
To me, physical therapy is more complex than just the physical treatment. Physical therapy
means that someone is able to live more freely and independently without being bound by my
physical ailments. Physical therapy can not only help someone live an active and healthy
lifestyle, but it can also give someone back their freedom to continue to live the way they want
to live their life. A team of physical therapists work to provide the utmost care to the patients in
order for each individual to regain a state of satisfactory living. I have personal experience with
therapy. In July of 2013, I was hit by an automobile while operating a motorcycle. My entire right
leg was damaged during the impact, and my femur and tibia were fractured. I lost most of the
function of my right leg for six months and was wheelchair bound. My accident took away my life,
my independence, and my ability to live happily. Physical therapydoes not just provide assistance
in ways of physical healing. It is a holistic physical, emotional, and social form of treatment that
encompasses emotional healing and social assistance growth as well. As living creatures, we rely
so much on our bodies in order to transport us to places we need to be, work to get our needs
meet, and to enjoy ourselves. When something happens that causes the bodies abilities to change, it
can affect every aspect of a person s life.

In order to see how successful the merchandise is I would look at the previous year s sales in that

of these items would show the increase or decrease in sales from last year. On average pre
introduction of the sporting goods department I saw maybe 20 people in the store. Now I cannot
even count how many people are shopping in the store, which shows an increase in customer
traffic potentially increasing sales. The turnover on merchandise is hard to see with the type of
merchandise on display, there are no outs on in the display cases. There are also no obvious set
locations for the merchandise in the case. If the last gun of a specific model is sold a different one

Jean Baptiste Lamarck And Charles Darwin s Theory Of...
Trends in Evolution
Background information: Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin both thought and had ideas
on how life on Earth got to be the way it is now. Unlike lots other people at that time (1800 s), they
both thought that life had changed gradually over many years and an extended time and was still
changing, that living things change to be better suited and adapted to their environments. Lamarck
is best known for his Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics. He said that change is made
by what the organisms want or need. For example, Lamarck believed that giraffes stretched their
necks to reach food. Their descendants and later generations inherited the resulting long necks.
Lamarck also believed that evolution happens according to a prearranged plan and that the results
have already been decided. (NECSI, 2012). Darwin, on the other hand said that organisms are all
different and that those which happen to have variations that help them to survive in their
environments survive and have more offspring. The offspring are born with their parents helpful
traits, and as they reproduce, individuals with that trait make up more of the population. Other
individuals, that are not so well altered, die off. Darwin also believed that evolution does not
happen according to any sort of plan.
We now know that there are four basic parts by which biological evolution takes place. These
include mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natural selection. Each of these

it can interfere with memories because it damages the brain structure that forms the limbic which

forget a distant relative to a family member as well as it might cause mood swings from being
depressed into angry. There is amnesia called neurological amnesia. Neurological amnesia is when

The Influence Of Realism In The Clash Of Civilization
The core claim of The Clash of Civilizations is that the greatest threat to world peace in the post
cold war world is not political, ideological or economic, but cultural. A civilization according to
Huntington (1996) is the highest cultural grouping of people and the broadest level of cultural
identity that helps people distinguish themselves from who they are not and who they are against
(21). This is also evident on page 20 when Huntington (1996) states, for peoples seeking identity and
reinventing ethnicity, enemies are essential, and the potentially most dangerous enmities occur
across the fault lines between the world s major civilizations. The understanding of the self in one
cultureis totally different in another civilizations context and this leads to misinterpretation and
misunderstanding. Other factors than the culture of civilizations better help explain and understand
militaryconflicts and the Clash of Civilizations. In fact, Huntington s claims are nothing more than
recycled Cold Warrealism updated to replace the Green Scare for the Red Scare.
The principle of international relations during the Cold War, realism, completely disregards the
impact of culture on interactions between states. For realists, the imperative actors on the
international scene are states and their ultimate goal is maximizing the power they can ultimately
possess. In general, realist theory coincides with the idea that no matter the time period or the state,
actors all have one

Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication
to patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
A care worker needs to listen their patients needs and respond to them with professionalism.
Facial expression, eye contact, active listening, nonverbal communication, clarifying messages,
empathy, use of body language and appropriate language tone and pace are all results of effective

Some example of barriers to communication are use of jargon, physical barriers, cultural differences,
impairments, different language and patronising communication.
Jargon is when people express technical words throughout a conversation.
Physical barriers to communication is when people are trying to communicate and something are
stopping them to communicate well for example a place which there is a lot of noise could be a
barrier for them to have a conversation.
Some physical can be someone who have difficulties to understand because of limitation of vision,

covers why they rebelled, but there is more to wishing for a better day than what is seen from
above the clear water. The barricade battle was the most layered scene that showed that the men
and women were fighting with purpose, and did not die senselessly. One of the leaders at the
barricade who was a big part of the movement was Enjolras. During the musical version he

The barricade was a moving scene that expressed this beautifully. Victor Hugo describes the
lives of men and women that were very unforgiving and glum. There is a point at which the
unfortunate and the infamous are associated and confounded in a single word, a fatal word, Les
Miserables. (Wilbur) The book centered around this idea. Throughout the book and at the
barricade, the men and women were described in this way exactly. Victor Hugo brought
characters to life with his words to show that life does get tough, but don t let it take everything
away. Victor Hugo also stated this, People weighed down with troubles do not look back; they
know only too well that misfortune stalks them. (Wilbur) This quote describes many of the
characters throughout the book. They were powerful and tried not to let their misfortunes get to
them. Turmoil and pain are anchors that get tied to a person s foot and still expected to stay afloat.
The characters in the book came together and helped each other swim and not

Pain And Fear In 1984
Pain is debilitating. Pain is suffering. Pain is unbearable. It crushes both mental and physical
parts of the body. Pain and fear are the quintessential human emotions. Some people live lives full
of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear and fear s companion,
pain. We are born into lives of awaiting fearand pain. Our lives are profoundly shaped by them, as
well as our efforts to avoid them. These emotions are not something that can be turned off and on.
Pain and fear seem to always uncontrollable and untouchable. Pain and fear are the main tools for
the government in Nineteen Eighty Four to control its individuals. Fear of being singled out from
anonymity, fear of being given away by your own kids, and fear... Show more content on

My Dad spent most of his time at home reading, watching television, and sleeping. When I say
him in his sleep he seemed to me to be in an emotional state of peace. He seemed to be as
graceful as an angel. His pain seemed to be masked by this blanket of grace. After getting home
from school, I did my homework, ate, and spent time with my sister. I longed to spend time with
my father. One night after school, I went up to my Dad nervously not knowing how he would
react and ask him if he would like to play checkers with me, like we normally did. Following this,
he screamed at me, told me to go to my room, and told me to leave him alone. I went to my room

The Importance Of Language Creation And Language Change
Language creation and language change have long been topics that genuinely interest linguists.
They apply their knowledge to different disciplines all across the spectrum of linguistics, from sign
language to vowel changes. Sign languages, which convey meaning through complex hand gestures
and facial expressions, are relatively young languages that emerged among deaf communities across
the globe. On the other hand, vowel shifts are changes in languagepronunciation that have been
taking place throughout human history. Despite all the research that has been done, linguists are
still uncertain about factors that contribute to language creation. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to
infer that language creation is fostered by communities where communication is hindered, and that
the size of the community is a determining factor. Language change, on the other hand, is mainly
driven by the ways in which people interact on a daily basis.
The desperate need for communication in small communities is the first step toward creating
new languages. One of the best pieces of evidence we have for how language emerges is
homesign, which is also an example of how language creation is influenced by size. Homesign
system, a self created system of communication used by deaf individuals who have not been
exposed to a sign language (Brentari Goldin Meadow, 2016, p.364), is created uniformly among
deaf individuals who are not exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of communicating

The Issue Of America s Public Schooling
As America charts its course into the twenty first century, we as a people are faced with a new
array of challenges unique to this great nation. Should we put a man on Mars, or build colonies
on the Moon? Should we attempt to solve world hunger, or instead focus our efforts on finding
cures for cancer, AIDS, and cerebral palsy? Should we preemptively murder the entire cast of
Jersey Shore before their final season, or let our ordained punishment for abusing the term bro run
its natural course and pray for forgiveness? All pressing questions, to be sure, and all worthy of
consideration. But as a concerned American citizen and future Supreme Emperor of the World, I
feel that there is no more compelling crisis currently facing this nation... Show more content on

Alright, now that I ve thoroughly confused any listeners that may have managed to stick with me
up to the Batman metaphor, allow me to put forth a modest proposal of my own that will finally
bring a peaceful resolution to this current crisis. This breathtakingly ingenious idea came to me
after watching a report on the drug wars in Mexico, and the thought occurred to me that surely
there could be a better use for all that confiscated marijuana. I was correct; and don t call me
Shirley. Operation 420, as I have taken to calling it, will consist of two phases: a launch phase, and
a containment phase, with the objectives being a peaceful halting and dismantling of Iran s nuclear
program and the pacification of that region for years to come. The launch phase will begin with
the acquisition and manufacturing of a plethora of specialized incendiary bombs. These bombs
will consist of a small explosive charge to break open the casing and ignite the contents: weed.
Lots of weed. On a predetermined date, most likely during the month of Ramadan, as the
primarily Islamic population of Iran will already be fasting and thus predisposed to the onset of
the infamous munchies , a strike force of aircraft will launch from the Persian Gulf and, flying in
the shape of Porky the Pig so as to scare away any Iranian interceptors, release their

Galen s Book Of Science
1. Even the best scientists have been wrong about some things. Give two examples from this
video where well known scientists were wrong. First, Galen s book of anatomy is a helpful book
of life, but Vesalius corrects his mistakes after mistakes. Although Vesalius needs to use Galen s
book as a material to teach students, Vesalius still encourage the students what they actually see.
Second, Giovanni Borelli as a mathematician broke down a body into different component parts
and he defines that life reduces to physical law. However, there is no a constant force which can
drive a body.
2. Scientific discovery builds upon previous knowledge and discoveries. Give two examples from
this video that show scientists building upon the work of previous scientists. First, Vesalius

In different terms, scientists give different definitions of life. For example, because Gladiators
played special roles in ancient Rome culture, Glaudius Galen defined that violent and bloody
spectacles shaped life. However, in 17th Century England, William Harvey points out that blood
is essence of life based on his experiment was to calculate the volume of blood passed through the
heart. With microscopes development, scientists redefine all living on Earth is made of cells;
indeed, cells becomes a new function rule of life. Latterly, synthetic dyes appearance allows people
to find chromosome, which is a new unit of life. Through more study on chromosome, scientists
discover DNA its shape is double helix. Nevertheless, a single DNA is not able to form a life.
Therefore, the understanding of life switches primitive that only one cell divide millions of cells in

War and Death in the Twentieth Century
The twentieth century was dominated by war and death. From the turn of the century, major
powers fought against one another trying to fight against those that oppressed them and others
fighting to keep oppressors from oppressing the people. World War I, World War II, and the Cold
War were wars that dominated this century, though there were many other, smaller, battles that
took place throughout these years. Powerful regimes that had been around for hundreds of years
came crashing down with new nations rising up in their place, dozens of peace treaties were
signed to appease those that had fought, and new political powers rose up and the rights of the
people began to change. War drastically changed the outcome of the twentieth century with the
beginning of the century care free but, at the end, many ideas and views of how life should be
were shattered and war would leave a bitter memory for many. The beginning of the twentieth
century started on a high note. Most countries were pleased with how their governments were being
controlled and most of the people within those countries were happy. However, this did not mean
that everyone, or country, was happy. With the beginning and ending of World War I
, the ideas that
many Europeans had supported...that man is always progressing...that life is always improving,
were shattered. Gone were the dreams of a prosperous life, that life was good, and that wars were
quick little squabble between countries with

  • 2. The Ebola Virus In Richard Preston s The Hot Zone Richard Preston s novel The Hot Zone, was based on a true story about the origins and incidents involving viral hemorrhagic fevers, mainly the Ebola and Marburg viruses. It primarily focuses on the Ebola virus first documented outbreak during the 1980s. As you read The Hot Zone, you will notice that it has been divided into four individual segments. The first segment looks into the history of filoviruses, and how AIDS emerged. The novel begins with Charles Monet, an elderly man who travels to Kitum Cave in Kenya. After coming in contact with an odd liquid substance, he begins to experience symptoms of the Marburg Virus (abbreviated as MARV ), which includes; headaches, backaches, internal organs failing, and excessive bleeding. Monet travels to the Nairobi Hospital and ends up infecting the young Doctor that treated him. Years after Monet s passing, a young pathologist named Nancy Jaax is introduced. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) decide to enter The Monkey House to destroy the animals to avoid a potentially worldwide epidemic. The primary research findings have highlighted that pupils within the lower foundation phase, gain more frequent opportunities and length of time in outdoor learning than the children in upper foundation phase (Figures 2 and 3). All the respondents agreed that outdoor learning is beneficial for children concurring with White (2008), Tovey (2007) and Learning through Landscapes (2010) that children have a lack of access to the outdoor experience in their home life so it is important for schools to provide outdoor provision. 1.1 Staff access to outdoor learning per week. Indicated in Figure 2 the findings show pupils are provided with frequent opportunities to access outdoor learning. However, four out of five respondents in the upper foundation phase, who ticked to say access was provided every day also commented to say this was dependent on the weather. Since the study was completed during the spring/summer term, it would be interesting to see if the findings would have prompted different results if it was completed in the autumn/winter term. The interviewee s response to how the weather impacted on outdoor learning suggested during cold weather they felt it was a health and safety risk for pupils and staff to access all activities in the outdoor environment. Therefore, this concurs with WISERD (2014) report, which highlighted time of year has an impact on the frequency of outdoor learning opportunities. Figure 2. How much time staff gives children access to outdoor learning. 1.3 Average time children gain access to outdoor provision in lower and upper foundation phase. Lower and upper foundation phase offer opportunities for free flow access to the outdoors, however, during the interview and some respondents of the questionnaires revealed that staff felt children should have more focused and planned opportunities within the outdoor learning ... What Is The Journey Of The Road Essay After a short flight from Durban, we arrived in Port Elizabeth, where we were to start the drive through the Garden Route to Cape Town, I once again reviewed our itinerary. The narratives I read about the Garden Route from our itinerary and other travel brochures, made my nomadic heart beat faster. The Garden Route was incredible. It stretches for less than 300 km, yet the range of topography, vegetation, wildlife is remarkable: indigenous temperature forest, pine plantations and fynbos (thick bush), mountains running alongside rocky coves and beaches, gorges, rivers, lagoons and mountain passes. While tourism may have taken over much of the coast, and tree plantations for commercial use may have taken their toll on the forest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We stayed in Knysna for 3 nights and our hotel was nestled on the banks of a lagoon alright. While relaxing in the hotel patio, I saw colorful birds and sea birds. The following day, we ferried along the lagoon to the mouth of the open sea to Featherbed Nature Reserve for an eco adventure tour. From the lagoon, I saw the Knysna Heads two enormous sandstone cliffs that stand like sentries at the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon from the sea. While traveling by a four wheel drive to the top of the hill, our local guide talked about the flora and fauna, and the Blue Duiker, one of the smallest and most endangered of the antelope, found in the area. Even though I did not see a Blue Duiker, I was not totally disappointed for when we reached the top of the hill we were treated to a stunning view of the blue skies of South Africa reflected on the ever flowing waters of the ocean. (picture) I have always been fascinated by the power of water and its hold on the human heart and imagination. So, I joined our local guide on a two kilometer hike through the milk wood forests and onto the sandstone cliffs that feature arches, caves, cliffs and other wonders. It was absolutely amazing. Two days later, we said goodbye to Knysna and continued to a scenic drive that took us along the Outeniqua Pass, deep gorges and ravines, and misty mountains. In this song the literary device used to convey the theme of when someone loses someone important to them, they will be by there side forever and never leave is repetition. My second song choice is My Wish By Rascal Flatts. In this song the literary device pathos helps convey the theme of never giving up on dreams and when other people doubt other people s goals but they continue to keep moving forward. The song You ll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins and the novel, Jeremy Fink and The Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass, both use repetition to get across the common theme of when someone loses someone important to them they will be by their side forever and never leave. • 7. Historical Purpose Of Philomena The film Philomena, directed by Stephen Frears, brings to light only a portion of the injustices faced by unwed mothers in Ireland during the mid late 1900 s. Due to such heavy religious regard in the State, if any girl was to get pregnant outside of wedlock, she would be forced to leave her home and live in a convent, referred to as mother and baby homes, where she would endure many sufferings which were hidden from the public eye. Among these miseries, the most heartbreaking one would be the constant fear of the nuns selling your baby through an illegal adoption and never seeing your own child again. After leaving the convent, many of these women would hide their shame and keep this part of their life a secret. The plot of this film follows the true story of a 19 year old girl, Philomena Lee, who suffered such pain and a life of silence and sorrow after her child was taken from her in one of the many illegal adoptions at the Roscrea Abbey, the convent where she was placed upon becoming pregnant. • 8. The Effects Of Sleep On Respiratory Diseases Introduction Almost half of children s life is spent asleep. Therefore, it is important for the clinicians to know the effect of sleep on respiratory diseases. (Marcus, 2001) Sleep disordered breathing may lead to serious and miserable complications such as sleep fragmentation, cognitive and behavioral changes, growth retardation, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. Unfortunately the prevalence of sleep related breathing disorders is high (3 12% of pediatric population); obstructive sleep apnea syndrome alone affects 3% of children.(Church 2012) Before the development of sleep studies, pediatricians mainly depended on history and physical examination for the diagnosis of sleep disorders. Researchers have tried to formulate clinical score questionnaires as an alternative to polysomnography. For the first time in 1984, the role of history and physical examination in the diagnosis of OSAS was assessed by Brouillete. However, several studies have demonstrated that clinical presentation alone cannot differentiate sleep related breathing disorders such as primary snoring from OSAS. Brietzke SE (Brietzke, Katz et al. 2004) showed that only 55.8% of patients were identified by clinical presentation as OSAS; were confirmed by polysomnography later. This unreliability could be caused by several factors; the most significant one is inaccuracy of history as some parents may overestimate difficulties in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using the Internet has become a necessary, daily routine. The Internet has allowed people to stay in contact with others, be updated with the latest things happening in the world, and get knowledge of anything we want within seconds. However, the Internet is not just benefiting people but also harming people. The overuse of Internet has brought many negative effects upon people. In the essays Isolated by the Internet , by Clifford Stoll, The Flight from Conversation , by Sherry Turkle, and Addicted to Technology by Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan, the authors share the common perspective that over using the Internet negatively effects individuals. In their opinions the use of Internet has negatively affected people mentally, socially, and has made them addicted to the Internet. These effects brought concerns such as isolation, depression, addiction, loneliness, stress, weak social ties, anonymity, and altering identities. Personally, I agree with the authors opinion of the use of Internet and its mental, social, and addictive effects towards people. Although, the Internet is sufficient to an individual there are many downs that have become serious issues in society today. Even though the Internet can bring happiness to an individual, the overuse of the Internet has mentally effects people by depression, stress, loneliness, and anxiety. ... Domestic and social agreements Sometimes the nature of an agreement clearly determines that there was no intention to be legally bound. In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted. There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle. The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is upheld. In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of ВЈ30 while he was away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the allowance. It is important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good relations at the time the husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was no intention to create legal relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ stated that it was a family matter . The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in fact be rebutted. In this case a husband promised his wife that he would transfer their house to her sole ownership after she paid the mortgage off. After the wife paid off the mortgage, the husband refused to transfer the house to her. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Newcomen s and Watt s early engines were atmospheric , meaning that they were powered by the vacuum generated by condensing steam instead of the pressure of expanding steam. Cylinders had to be large, as the only usable force acting on them was atmospheric pressure. Steam was only used to compensate for the atmosphere allowing the piston to move back to its starting position. Around 1800, Richard Trevithick introduced engines using high pressure steam. These were much more powerful than previous engines and could be made small enough for transport applications. Caine rarely shows any intention of using institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never fit for some boring job. The books talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use technology more is to add a technology upgrade to your usual activities. The physical and mechanical characteristics that are Tensile strength, Flexural strength, Water absorption, Hardness etc. illustrate the competency of the developed composite. It is found that Water Absorbency, Tensile strength , Flexural strength, hardness stiffness increase with increasing of Metal Mat layer in the composite which is estimated maximum for the three Metal Mat layered composite and minimum for the zero layered composite. Mechanical properties of the composite increase with the increase of metal mat layer. All the properties suggest the use of the composite as an unbeaten structural material but water uptake evades its outside use. INTRODUCTION: Metal reinforced Polyester composite has been increasingly drawn the attention of the researchers for the last decades. Light weight along with high strength materials can replace traditional construction materials used in building engineering, aeronautics, mechanical engineering and in many other domains. It is related to a possibility of obtaining practically any combination of beneficial properties of the material, e.g. high vibration damping coefficient, high abrasion resistance, high value of the Young s modulus, low specific gravity and low coefficient of thermal expansion [1, 2, 3, 4] . This project is concerned with metal mat reinforced polymer (MMP) composites where high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Physical Treatment Of Physical Therapy Physical therapy is defined as the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical method. To me, physical therapy is more complex than just the physical treatment. Physical therapy means that someone is able to live more freely and independently without being bound by my physical ailments. Physical therapy can not only help someone live an active and healthy lifestyle, but it can also give someone back their freedom to continue to live the way they want to live their life. A team of physical therapists work to provide the utmost care to the patients in order for each individual to regain a state of satisfactory living. I have personal experience with therapy. In July of 2013, I was hit by an automobile while operating a motorcycle. My entire right leg was damaged during the impact, and my femur and tibia were fractured. I lost most of the function of my right leg for six months and was wheelchair bound. My accident took away my life, my independence, and my ability to live happily. Physical therapydoes not just provide assistance in ways of physical healing. It is a holistic physical, emotional, and social form of treatment that encompasses emotional healing and social assistance growth as well. As living creatures, we rely so much on our bodies in order to transport us to places we need to be, work to get our needs meet, and to enjoy ourselves. When something happens that causes the bodies abilities to change, it can affect every aspect of a person s life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This would report the overall comp over last year which should be a rather large percentage. Another report I would look at involves any sporting goods that had been in the store prior to the introduction of the new department. Looking at the individual sales of these items would show the increase or decrease in sales from last year. On average pre introduction of the sporting goods department I saw maybe 20 people in the store. Now I cannot even count how many people are shopping in the store, which shows an increase in customer traffic potentially increasing sales. The turnover on merchandise is hard to see with the type of merchandise on display, there are no outs on in the display cases. There are also no obvious set locations for the merchandise in the case. • 31. Jean Baptiste Lamarck And Charles Darwin s Theory Of... Trends in Evolution Background information: Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin both thought and had ideas on how life on Earth got to be the way it is now. Unlike lots other people at that time (1800 s), they both thought that life had changed gradually over many years and an extended time and was still changing, that living things change to be better suited and adapted to their environments. Lamarck is best known for his Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics. He said that change is made by what the organisms want or need. For example, Lamarck believed that giraffes stretched their necks to reach food. Their descendants and later generations inherited the resulting long necks. Lamarck also believed that evolution happens according to a prearranged plan and that the results have already been decided. (NECSI, 2012). Darwin, on the other hand said that organisms are all different and that those which happen to have variations that help them to survive in their environments survive and have more offspring. The offspring are born with their parents helpful traits, and as they reproduce, individuals with that trait make up more of the population. Other individuals, that are not so well altered, die off. Darwin also believed that evolution does not happen according to any sort of plan. We now know that there are four basic parts by which biological evolution takes place. These include mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natural selection. Each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Influence Of Realism In The Clash Of Civilization The core claim of The Clash of Civilizations is that the greatest threat to world peace in the post cold war world is not political, ideological or economic, but cultural. A civilization according to Huntington (1996) is the highest cultural grouping of people and the broadest level of cultural identity that helps people distinguish themselves from who they are not and who they are against (21). This is also evident on page 20 when Huntington (1996) states, for peoples seeking identity and reinventing ethnicity, enemies are essential, and the potentially most dangerous enmities occur across the fault lines between the world s major civilizations. The understanding of the self in one cultureis totally different in another civilizations context and this leads to misinterpretation and misunderstanding. Other factors than the culture of civilizations better help explain and understand militaryconflicts and the Clash of Civilizations. In fact, Huntington s claims are nothing more than recycled Cold Warrealism updated to replace the Green Scare for the Red Scare. The principle of international relations during the Cold War, realism, completely disregards the impact of culture on interactions between states. For realists, the imperative actors on the international scene are states and their ultimate goal is maximizing the power they can ultimately possess. • 40. The Importance Of Language Creation And Language Change Language creation and language change have long been topics that genuinely interest linguists. They apply their knowledge to different disciplines all across the spectrum of linguistics, from sign language to vowel changes. Sign languages, which convey meaning through complex hand gestures and facial expressions, are relatively young languages that emerged among deaf communities across the globe. On the other hand, vowel shifts are changes in languagepronunciation that have been taking place throughout human history. Despite all the research that has been done, linguists are still uncertain about factors that contribute to language creation. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to infer that language creation is fostered by communities where communication is hindered, and that the size of the community is a determining factor. Language change, on the other hand, is mainly driven by the ways in which people interact on a daily basis. The desperate need for communication in small communities is the first step toward creating new languages. One of the best pieces of evidence we have for how language emerges is homesign, which is also an example of how language creation is influenced by size. Homesign system, a self created system of communication used by deaf individuals who have not been exposed to a sign language (Brentari Goldin Meadow, 2016, p.364), is created uniformly among deaf individuals who are not exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of communicating ... From the turn of the century, major powers fought against one another trying to fight against those that oppressed them and others fighting to keep oppressors from oppressing the people. World War I, World War II, and the Cold War were wars that dominated this century, though there were many other, smaller, battles that took place throughout these years. Powerful regimes that had been around for hundreds of years came crashing down with new nations rising up in their place, dozens of peace treaties were signed to appease those that had fought, and new political powers rose up and the rights of the people began to change.
