2. Other People Do Not Have Minds
Other people do not have minds. At least, I cannot know for sure that they do, and
will argue for this case in this essay. The problem of other minds (that is, can we
know that other people have minds) is a problem that (like all classic
philosophical problems) seemingly has no provable answer. The problem is such;
I do not know for sure that other people actually have minds; I only know what my
own experiences are like through direct experience (i.e. I know my experiences
because I experience them), but I cannot have direct knowledge of other people s
experiences, as I cannot experience their experiences alongside them. Therefore, I
only have information about people s behaviour to go on; e.g. I cannot know that
someone is happy, but I can experience them behave in such a way that would lead
me to the conclusion that they re happy, as that is how I would act if I were happy.
The problem with this, however, is that behaviour is not equal to mental states, and
therefore I have no knowledge of other people s mental states, only that they seem to
experience mental states based on their behaviour. Of course, I cannot know that they
experience mental states for sure, as I cannot experience other s mental states, I can
only draw conclusions from their behaviour, which does not prove that they do have
minds. One way that would prove the existence of other minds would be to
experience another s mental state. As I experience my own mental states directly, that
is sufficient proof for

Throughout history television has seen many changes such as improved acting,
special effects, graphics, camera work, ideas, and many other changes. Cop

have become more in depth and realistic. During the 60 s television exploded. There
was 245 million TV sets in American homes. At the time, that was more TV sets than
people in the United States. With all the turmoil with the JFK assassination, early
stages of the Vietnam War, the lifestyle of Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll and others,
televisionwas used to reach out to people. During the 70 s television began to
become even more popular because people started liking it more and people were
able to afford it. That changed the way television was represented and what was on
television. Cop shows from these two era s started getting more realistic. Crime,
cop, or investigation shows in the 70 s are more realistic than those shows of the

A Clockwork Orange Duality as the ultimate reality
Harriet McLean
Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a
man. Anthony Burgess disturbing yet confrontational novel A Clockwork Orange
entices it s audience, demanding them to question strong controversial social issues
comprising of the right of free will, the fundamental need for commitment in human
life regarding the consequences of apathy and neutrality and the corruption and
manipulation of the government. This twisted but simply marvelous dystopian novel
creates a conflicting debate within yourself between morality and the connections you
form with these sadistic characters. Regardless of the controversial themes present in
this dark comedy, I am undoubtedly certain that A Clockwork Orangedemands to be
read by a diverse audience and unquestionably deserves to be regarded as one of the

Consequently, citizens have unconsciously fallen into a passive vacancy of

protagonist Alex and his gang , who all lack a complete sense of morality, through a
first person narrative. As section two commences, we transition into the Ludovico
technique used on Alex by the government in an attempts to brainwash him into
being a model citizen . Effectively, this denies him the opportunity to be a moral
agent and freely have the choice between what is right and what is morally wrong.
Thus Burgess opens the debate of freedom against invoked obedience and what

7. Divine Intervention Between Aeneas And Aschises
In the Aeneid, Virgil includes multiple aspects of divine intervention between Aeneas
and many characters like Dido, Turnas, and Aschises. Many of these interactions
seem like they determine the characters fate; but fate is predetermined. Aeneas has a
prophecy, that he will found Rome and it will be a great Empire for hundreds of
years. The goddesses Juno and Venus interfere with his journey multiple times, but in
the end he does indeed found Rome, despite their interferences. This is strategically
done by Virgilto represent Augustusand to create Pietas for the Roman citizens.
Augustus commissioned Virgil to write the Aeneid. Augustus wanted the people
of Rome to know what a great empire it is, and how it was founded by god like
figures, and that it was the gods and goddesses choice that the fate of Rome came
about how it was that day. A flaw in Augustus s plan erupted when Virgil dies, and
requests the Aeneid be destroyed. This act implies that Virgil does not believe in
what he wrote, and thinks divine intervention and fate is false. Virgil s audience
believed in virtues like pietas and stoicism, but often does not live by these ideals.
The same goes for Rome s fate though the Aeneid. They believed that it is a great
empire founded by the will of the gods, but that fact does not change anything in
most of the Roman s daily lives; therefore it does not change their fate either. Aeneas
is faced with many different challenges during his journey to found, what will become
8. Ponyboys Maturity
Confidence comes with maturity, being more accepting of yourself. Nicole
Scherzinger. Throughout the novel Ponyboy develops a new level of maturity. He
discovers that there is more in life other than his viewpoint. He learns how to get
through the tough times. He learns who to look to for help and guidance. Ponyboy
most importantly learns that he must stay gold. Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold...
(Hinton, pg 148) To me this quote means that Ponyboy should stay true to the kind,
sensitive, and cautious person that he really is deep down inside of him. One of the
ways that Ponyboy matured through the novelis through his friendships. One of the
friendships that matured the most was Ponyboy s friendship with Dally. When the
book started Ponyboy admired Dally. Ponyboy admired that Dally was brave and
risky. Dally knew what to do in every situation because he had experience from all
of the times he had gotten in trouble himself. Ponyboy especially admired this
when he and Johnny were in a pickle and needed help. Ponyboy then slowly
throughout the novel realizes who Dally really is. Don t you know a rumble ain t a
rumble without me? (Hinton, pg. 126). Dally is really a thief who causes trouble and
isn t trusted by many people. He is selfish and the only person he truly loved was
Johnny. When Ponyboy slowly came to these realizations, I think he might have
been slightly disappointed. I believe this because when you truly look up to
someone and you realize their real character, you feel let down or upset at yourself.
Ponyboy, even though upset, still had Dally s back because no matter what Dally
did the Greasers had each other s backs. Ponyboy s mind, immensely shut, didn t
accept the fact that not all Soc s were bad until a little bit later in the book. He then
realizes that the Soc s are also just humans who have just as many harsh problems
as the Greasers. He then is proven this when he meet Cherry. Cherry is a Soc who is
kind, witty, and watches the same sunset that Ponyboy does. They end up sharing an
immense amount of things in common, and get along well. Ponyboy then takes a
couple of steps back and awe s at that fact that even though Cherry is a Soc she is not
mean but instead pleasant to be around.
9. Hinduism Essay examples
Hinduism
Hinduism is the religion followed by the people of South Asia, mainly in India
though. The term HInduism actually means what the Indians do and was applied to
these people by Islamic Invaders. Hinduism is actually a mix of several differents
ideals from different religions. Parts of it draw on the Vedic religion of the Aryan
tribes from the north, some from the Dravidian civilization to the south, along with
ideas from Buddhism. From the Dravidians came the beilief of intense devotion to
the gods and the rituals for fertility and other such things. It is not known yet how the
Vedic religion manifested into Hinduism. As in all civilizations of the time, the priests

This deity would then bring violence and destruction to the world. This ideal of
women and of fertility is almostly directly to the beiliefs of the Dravidians. There
are also many, many other gods besides these three main ones. That s one of the
distinguishing factors of Hinduism, the amount and the variety of gods that were
used to explain events in life and life itself. Even with all of these gods out there,
worshipers were to devote most of their worship at one specific deity. This did not
mean that the other gods would strike back for not being worshipped, for each was
worshipped by at least one person. This sense of unity amongst the gods and the
people is brought out buy certain texts, such as the Bhagad Gita. The purpose in life
was to praise your deity to the best of your ability so as to get the god s favor.
Religious duties were not only based on class, but also on gender and on age. The
center of worship for these gods was the temple, some being simple and others
being extremely elegant. Many of these temples had a beautiful statue of their deity.
This statue was there for the diety to possess so that they could be worshipped by
the people even more. To worship their deity, some would take part in puja, which
was a service to the deity that involved bathing, clothing, or feeding the statue. Some
people were even blessed enought to see their god, even if just for an instance. They

10. What Is The Theme Of Anthropocentrism
Rejection of Anthropocentrism in Select Poems of Robinson Jeffers
Ms. D. Nivethitha, II M.A. English Literature, Avinashilingam University for Women,
Coimbatore
The concept of Anthropocentrism is deep rooted in the very nature of human beings
and can be seen even in the primitive ages when the humans are believed to have lived
in unison with nature. Even in that period their harmonious relationship with the non
human natural world existed as a sort of necessity for their survival and not out of
love for nature. The idea of anthropocentrism in which man occupies the central
position and is given the primary importance when compared to all the other living
and non living organisms in nature, gives him a right to tame and subdue nature.

The method used in this experiment was primarily observation and survey based,
which is weak evidence. The data does not support the claim and does not take into
account outside factors such as susceptibility to aggression and one s perception of
aggressive behavior. These subjective variables cause error in the results and bring
data, which is insufficient. These findings also measured short term effects.
Christopher Ferguson and colleagues from Texas A M International University and
University of Wisconsin also studied the relationship between exposures to violent
video games and aggression. This study was done primarily through observing
behavior of subjects. In their first study participants were either randomized or
allowed to choose to play a violent or nonviolent game. Although males were more
aggressive than females, neither randomized exposure to violent video game
conditions nor previous real life exposure to violent video games caused any
differences in aggression (Ferguson). Study 2 looked at correlations between trait
aggression, violent criminal acts, and exposure to both violent games and family
violence. Results indicated that trait aggression, family violence, and being male
were predictive of violent crime, but exposure to violent games was not (Ferguson).
From the data collected it could be seen that family violence and innate aggression

The Darkness of Relationships
Relationships are the foundation of everything in this world, especially in literature.
If there is no relationship present, there is essentially no story; in the short story A
Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahiri the entire story focuses on the married
immigrants, Shoba and Shukumar, and their relationship. Unfortunately, their
relationship is an example of something that is commonly seen in many North
American relationships. Lahiri clearly depicts them as an unhappy couple that
possesses a deeply flawed marriage, and are only able to connect through negativity,
irritation, and grief. This text clearly portrays an intensely damaged relationship and

On page 13 it states, Okay, he said, remembering. The first time we went out to
dinner, to the Portuguese place, I forgot to tip the waiter. I went back the next
morning, found out his name, left money with the manager. (Lahiri 13) This scene is
the first night of their power being out, and Shukumar s first confession to Shoba. It is
about the memory of the first time they went out for dinner together, which is a
happy memory for both of them. It is also a humorous confession because it is
about something so simple and innocent. He finishes this confession in an adoring
way, Shoba asks, Why did you forget to tip the waiter? (Lahiri 14) and he replies
with, By the end of the meal I had a funny feeling I might marry you. (Lahiri 14)
This shows how the use of memory brings a couple closer together and allows them
to feel a similar feeling that they might have felt when they were first meeting. This
is often referred to as the honeymoon phase of their relationship, meaning they are
happy and the relationship is still within its innocent state. They have little to no
problems between the two of them because they have known each other for such a
short time. They are just beginning to fall in love, and these types of joyful memories
are the kind that people love to hold onto because of all the wonderful feelings they
get from them. As the nights go on, the confessions begin to change from these

13. The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry Essay example
The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry
In this novel by Wendell Berry, Berry s describes in his thesis that modern culture
is destroying the agricultural culture. He feels that technology is seen as the easy
way to produce food faster and more efficiently. With this modern way of farming
comes the idea that hard work is not needed to make a living. The goal is comfort
and leisure. Berry feels that this is the reason for the deterioration of the agricultural
culture. He believes that hard work and pride in workmanship is more important
than material goods and money. This was by no means a perfect society. The people
had often been violent wand wasteful in the use of land of each other. Its present ills

They generally are not interested in anything that cannot be reached by
automobile on a good road. Some of the farmer s children will be able to afford to
stay on the farm. Perhaps even fewer will wish to do so, for it will cost too much,
require too much work and worry, and it is hardly a fashionable ambition.
Another argument that Berry proposes is the connection between the modernization
of agricultural techniques and the disintegration of the culture, as well as the
communities of farming and the consequent disintegration of structures of urban life.
What we called agriculture progress has involved the forcible displacement of
millions of people. An example of modernization can be seen through the idea of
Get big or get out. It s a policy that says that you have to become more modern

not, than you must get of what you are doing. This can be used through a comparison
of communist using military force in order to remove those who refuse to follow
their demand for change, and the government using their economic power to force
farmers to improve their farming techniques. In a Free Market the most successful
becomes the richest. To those who could not

management plan such as that possessed by Dish can be successfully implemented
when a high focus is placed on measuring the level of performance and commitment

unsuccessful, while some were implemented successfully. Before a strategic plan is
implemented at Dish Network, the organization has always ensured that it has several
parameters in check. The delivery process that is to be utilized in the implementation
of the specific strategy is usually aligned to the vision of the corporation.
Dish Corporation s strategy has in the past been successfully achieved based on
correct timing in merging policies, operations, and incorporating the required changes
within the organization. In the past, the company has ensured that its financial and

have been fears that the technology permits a reduction in privacy when the
information is disclosed. Many argue that genetic information can also be used

information should also be subject to patients or families consent (Richmond et al.
2009).
Although the gene chip will enable an individual to know whether he/she has a
genetic disease, that person may not want to know the information. Many people are
frightened that a positive finding on a genetic test will result in discrimination and
ostracism because the society will consider them abnormal (Easthope 2005). The
other concern is that with genetic test information one might lose or might be unable
to get a job or insurance. There have been concerns that with the knowledge of one s
medical information after a gene test, he/she might suffer a psychological problem
especially when the results reveal that one suffers from a terminal disease or has
high possibility of suffering from one (Willis 2009).
The testing is not a bad idea as such but it should not be done to children. This
regards to personal autonomy where it would be better if the testing is delayed until
an individual is old enough to make his or her own decision about the test. A person
s genetic information should be private and counselling should be done to elucidate
the basis for and consequences of the test in question. Individuals should be allowed
to choose when and which
21. Essay On American Industrialization
American Industrialization the improvement of living condition
The advent of industrialization in the early nineteenth century had wide reaching
impacts on economics, politics, society and demographics. Overall, the transition
from an agrarian and feudal system of production to an industrial and capitalistic
system improved the average standard of living and working conditions. It not only
led to greater opportunities for people, both proletarians and bourgeois, to accumulate
wealth in a market economy, but also ameliorated social service and product quality.
In a word, those modifications and innovative ideas formed caused significant
changes and eventually shaped the face of the modern world.

A huge mass of workers at the bottom of the economic ladders were facing low
wages, chronic employment, and on the job hazard. In order to respond to the
pressure, Progressivism, an effort to cure many of the ills of American society,
arrived at a moment of crisis for the United States. According to the principles of
Progressive Reform, the government was accountable for ameliorating the effects
of industrialization . In this way, progressive reform tended to more broadly
involved improving city services, such as providing garbage pickup and sewage
disposal. Among progressivism s greatest champion was Theodore Roosevelt, who
signaled his reformist sympathies by supporting civil service reform and brought
progressivism to the national stage. He worked to pass two landmark pieces of
legislation the Pure Food Drug Act and Meat Inspection Act. Both of the laws were
intended to protect consumers constitutional amendments and curb the power of
trusts. Thus, he added enormously to the national forests in the West, reserved lands
for public use, and fostered great irrigation projects. In a word, Progressivism made a
significant contribution to favourable living conditions in America. In addition, it
also originated as the optimistic vision that society was capable of improvement,
22. The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex
Introduction
The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex is a great place for business. It is home to multiple
companies and their corporate headquarters and with an international airport, open
trade routes, multiple universities and academic institutions it proves to be the
perfect location for businesses and professionals alike. One such company that is
headquartered in Plano, TX, and is an example of a thriving organization in the area,
is the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. A mostly domestic company, with most of its
business located in North American and Mexico, the DPS Group is a
manufacturer of nonalcoholic beverages in the beverage industry and is third in
overall market share (after Coca Cola and Pepsico). The beverage industry is
steady and growing, but the nonalcoholic beverage portion of the industry is facing
many challenges with carbonated soft drinks declining in sales due to a more
health conscious population. Analyzing the DPS Group and how they are dealing
with these challenges was very interesting, as I have always been a Dr Pepper fan
and would hate to see them go out of business or die out in the market. I have
known people who have worked for the company and loved it, and I hope to work
for them someday as well. I collected my research on the company through their
website, articles and journals, and my own knowledge of the company and research
into the company history through a visit to the Dr Pepper museum.

23. Movie Review Research Paper
A movie reviewer for a newspaper has the intriguing job of previewing movies, and
even the honor of determining the success of the movie. Today we will discuss
more of what this job entails, and even how you could get this job for yourself.
First let us start off with the job description. Movie reviewers have the job of
watching movies before they even come out. Not only can they do this for free,
but they get paid for this. All they need is a love for movies, a natural gift for
writing, and a degree in journalism certainly helps, though not required. Popular
movie reviewers get to interview top stars, producers, and moved directors.
Imagine having the chance to interview your favorite movie star or director. Now
you can imagine the appeal of a job as a movie. Movie reviewers have both an
analytical and creative mind. The analytical part to judge parts of the movie such
as tone, theme, and plot focus. While the creative part determines how good the
movie is with a personal bias. These reviews help determine the success of a movie.
There is the occasional exception, if the reviews on a movie are bad, usually the
movie does bad in the box office.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While a major in journalism helps, it is not required. However, the chances of getting
a job in this field at first is slim. An easier way to get started in this field is to just go
see new movies, write a review for them, and post the review online. While you will
not get paid at first this is a good way to get enough experience to be considered for
a position at a newspaper. Once you get popular enough companies might start to
invite you to previewing to get your feedback. Just remember add something unique
to your reviews, since the are a lot of people who do this on the internet. You have to
stand out of you want this to

f.What are free cash flows?
Free cash flows are the monies available for distribution to all investors after paying
current expenses, taxes, and making the investments necessary for growth.
g.What is the weighted average cost of capital?
The weighted average cost of capital is the rate that a company is expected to pay
on average to all its security holders to finance its assets.

determine a firm s value?
Free Cash Flow = Sales Revenues Operating Costs and Taxes Required Investments
in Operating Capital. Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) is affected by
market interest rates, market risk aversion, cost of debt, cost of equity, firm s debt

26. Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl And The Awakening
The nineteenth century oversaw women like Harriet Jacobs and Kate Chopin
developing narratives which notably resisted the customary feminist roles in the
home. Each of these narratives entails a female protagonist who is looking to escape
and attain freedom. With many critics debating about their source of dissatisfaction,
the final resort, women refusing to conform to the role of a devoted wife, provided
authoritative and subversive texts to the advice literature that was popularized at the
turn of the century.
The Awakening novel by Kate Chopin was first unveiled in 1899, only to gain wide
acceptance in the latter half of the twentieth century when feminism transcended to a
mode of literary discourse. Due to this, the text is often dubbed as an early feminist

27. Character Analysis Of Calvin And Hobbes
Calvin and Hobbes is a humorous newspaper comic strip developed by the
American cartoonist Bill Watterson. The comic follows the everyday life of an
impish six year old by the name of Calvin and the adventures he has with his best
friend and stuffed tiger, Hobbes (Watterson, Characters ). Watterson explores ideas of
childhood innocence and imagination from the perspective of Calvin and his
interactions with the characters around him. The underlying message is that it is
okay to be different and ask questions because the opinion of the majority is not
always correct. Watterson portrays this message through Calvin by having him point
out when adults are being unreasonable and asking questions. The comic does an
excellent job of achieving its intended purpose of engaging readers while urging them
to question the world around them.
The storyline of Calvin and Hobbes revolves around the daily life of Calvin and the
relationships that he has with other characters. The bulk of the comic features
commentary by Calvin in relation to the observations he makes on the world
around him. Hobbes usually replies to Calvin sarcastically, but still humors his
criticisms. Calvin s parents and peers are usually annoyed by his comments, but
Calvin stands by his opinions and stays true to himself. Calvin s active imagination
leads him to create his own idea of entertainment. This is especially apparent in
Calvin s view of Hobbes. Calvin perceives Hobbes as a living tiger of which takes on

Decision Making Ethics in the Current Marketplace
In examining the correlation between the manner in which we conduct business and
the principles to which we personally ascribe, it is undeniable that we are
inextricably impacted by our respective familial upbringings, social environments and
academic influences. Because values play such an important role in our lives, being
able to recognize, understand and articulate one s own values set becomes critical in
sound decision making. Additionally, the ability to identify an employer s corporate...

Beliefs are steeped in our past histories, habits and traditions, and are thus
constrained by individual experiences and not as adaptable to new situations.
Alternatively, if you use values to make decisions, those decisions will align with the
future you want to experience. Values transcend both contexts and experiences.
Therefore, they can be used for making tough decisions in complex situations that
have not yet been experienced. As a result, values provide a more flexible mode of
decision making than beliefs.
Gain Team Member Customer Commitment: When an organization and its team
members unite around a shared set of values, they become more flexible, less
hierarchical, less bureaucratic, and they develop an enhanced capacity for collective
action. When employees not only share similar values but also a similar vision the
performance of a company is enhanced. Shared values build trust. Trust is the
foundation on which relationships are established, both with team members and
customers alike. Values based leadership is a way of making authentic decisions that
build the trust and commitment of employees and customers.

The Smallville High School had an annual event every year. Coy Gunner was the
star of the school. He came to the Fair with the tee shirt that had the words Joints

Both of the sides were written by larger, yellow letters. The images of the shirt
looked like Christ smoking marijuana cigarette. Principal Cuthbert was shocked at
Gunner. He called Gunner come to his office, and decided to suspend Gunner for ten
school days. The principle believed Gunner showed disrespect to Christian. Gunner
was the star quarterback of the school s football team. He was the model of the

SUMMARY In an article entitled Effect of single versus double gloving on virus
transfer to health care workers skin and clothing during removal of personal
protective equipment , which was published in the American Journal of Infection
Control in August, 2011, authors Lisa Casanova, William Rutala, David Weber,
and Mark Sobsey performed a controlled study of 18 volunteer health care workers,
tracking both their adherence to CDC guidelines for donning and doffing personal
protective equipment (PPE), as well as the spread of bacterial contaminants the
health care workers were exposed to while performing routine patient care. The
purpose of this study was to identify whether airborne contaminants were
transferred to heath care workers hands and uniforms less often with double
gloving than with single gloving. Though this study was performed on a very
small sample of health care workers at the University of North Carolina Chapel
Hill, the results of the study showed that there was far less contamination of
participants hands after utilizing double gloving standards than with single
gloving. CRITICAL EVALUATION For this study, researchers obtained 18
volunteers, all of whom were experienced health care workers. This study was
completed in two separate phases, a double gloving phase, and a single gloving
phase. Each participant was educated as to proper CDC guidelines for donning and
doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE), and were able to review these
guidelines and

The outcome of the battle of Bosworth Field on August 22nd, 1485, has long been
one of great controversy. It marked the end of one of the bloodiest civil wars in
England s history, and the dawning of the much acclaimed Tudor era. Bosworth
raises many a question regarding the ideas of loyalty and honour in the latter years
of the medieval age. Upon which side of the battle field, if either, did true betrayal
lie? The infamous War of the Roses saw families torn apart and brother turn against
brother in a mad scramble to claim the English throne. How much did those years
of bloodshed effect the decisions value of loyalty to one s king or lineage? This

Over the course of his lifetime he changed his loyalties at least four times. Each
time could easily be construed as purely for personal advantages. Like his father

Familial ties with Warwick did not stop him from siding with Edward IV, nor did
rewards from Richard III keep him from sitting out for the king s final battle. Lord
Thomas was motivated by personal gain and this strategy served him well. He was

Fernando Cardenal, serving as the National Literacy Crusade Coordinator, and
Valerie Miller, a CNA advisor, outlined that the literacy campaign would not just
eradicate illiteracy, but create an identity of a new man [and a] new woman for
Nicaraguans. Through the CNA, the Sandinistas hoped to introduce young
Nicaraguans to the difficulties and hardship endured by Nicaraguas poor rural
population. For many of the brigadistas who volunteered, the 1980 literacy campaign
served as their first experience with the other side of Nicaragua s population, a side
that remained unseen and not thought of by many under the Somoza regime. The life
that brigadistas lived in during the CNA significantly altered their perspectives on
society, both politically and culturally. The Sandinistas did in fact succeed at
redefining the concept of the Nicaraguan experience for its youth.
The Nicaraguan volunteers in the National Literacy Crusade developed a sense of
new nationalism for Nicaragua defined by their experiences with the illiterate
Nicaraguan population. The accounts of this change is most evident from the
experiences of brigadistas working in the Nicaragua s poor rural regions. Brigadistas,
the majority of whom came from urban middle class backgrounds, gained an
appreciation for the rural farmers and laborers. The testaments and personal accounts
of brigadistas provide insight on the impact of their time with the long
disenfranchised citizens of Nicaragua. Several factors
33. Climate Change and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Essay
Climate change or colloquially known as global warming, now pose a new threat
to civilization as the levels of greenhouse gases (GHG) are soaring to new levels.
The most significant contributor to greenhouse gasses would be Carbon Dioxide
(Co2). The levels of Carbon Dioxide (Co2) gas have risen to levels civilization has
not seen before. As such, the effects of these levels are not known to civilization as
data gathered from the ice cores drilled in the Antarctica only shows data up to
650,000 years ago. However we can conclude that present CO2 concentrations are
higher compared to any time in the last 650,000 years (IPCC 2007). Current carbon
dioxideconcentrations are hovering around 389 parts per million (ppm) as of
September 2011,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore based on the worrying statistics above, we have to take precautionary
measure to ensure the greenhouse gases, more specifically carbon dioxide levels do
not increase further.
In Australia, there is an emerging consensus that the government should take
further actions to help mitigate and combat climate change. The current most
accepted policy by government is the introduction of a carbon tax followed by an
ETS in 2015. However we are focusing on the carbon tax in this essay and not the
ETS. Here is a brief explanation of the dynamics of a carbon tax. A carbon tax is a
tax on energy sources, which emit carbon dioxide (Co2). Therefore, carbon taxes
address the problem of negative externality. Externalities are the subsequent effects
when individual production or consumption of a particular good or service imposes
costs or benefits on others. Therefore negative externalities are effects, which pose
harm to others without their direct interaction (Basic Economics 2011). However,
usual market practices and transactions do not reflect these cost and benefits in the
prices involved in the transaction, or take into account in their transaction decision.
Therefore this is a form of market failure. By imposing a cost on these negative
externalities, the hidden cost can be addressed. Ultimately the purpose of a carbon
tax is to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and therefore reduce

Tattoos have changed all throughout the years from the history of them to modern,

who was found frozen in the Alps (Nat A Tat2) and the history piercing date back
to different primitive tribes for their beliefs (Tribu). Scientists say that the tattoos
he had were for medical reasons. When they found his body, they took X rays and
where there were tattoos was where his bones had started to decay. His tattoos were
on his back, knees, ankles, and feet. The ink used on his tattoos was made of
powdered charcoal and rubbing it into his cut skin. Many ancient civilizations did
tattoos and piercings for example the Egyptians, Greeks, Japanese, Arabian and
Siberians. Many mummies have been found with tattoos and are the oldest bodies to
be found with gauged or stretched earlobes (Tibu). The Egyptians were also the ones
who brought tattooingto Greece and to Arabia (Nat A Tat2). In Japan, tattoos were
used for beauty, beliefs and to mark criminals (Nat A Tat2).

One of the most common laryngeal pathological changes is called vocal fold
nodules (Phillippe H. al., et 2009). While looking at vocal fold nodules, one may

appear as proportional mass lesions. The history of vocal fold nodules dates back
to 1866, when the pathology was first discovered by Turk (Simpson B al., et 2008).
Vocal fold nodules occur more frequently in children and women (Simpson B al., et

the adult female larynx when muscular exhaustion and resulting hypotonia (state of

muscular tension imbalance and behavioral aspects in the modeling procedure
indicating a decrease in active stress is a possible effect of enervation, and growth in
subglottal pressure a result of effort compensation (Phillippe H. al., et 2009).

It is common for people with vocal fold nodules to improve without the need for
surgery (Simpson B al., et 2008). Speech Language Pathologists have to be mindful

Egypt s geographic characteristics that affect the development of human society were

rivers course. The crops in this area did well and the flooding helped set a steady
schedule for planting and harvesting and because of this the societies remained
stable and had extra time to develop art and science in their culture. The people of
Egypt also had access to some of the largest quantities of stone such as granite. This
began the development and building of pyramids instead of mud buildings. The Nile
River played a huge role in the development of Egypt.

The social and politically elite from Egypt sought exotic goods and items of
symbolic prestigiousness from India (Mesopotamia). For example: Mesopotamian
cylinder seals and Afghan Lapis Lazuli which were found in early Egyptian tombs.
Not only was there trades of items but there was trades of ideas. Egyptians imitated
the Lapis Lazuli in their Egyptian Faience (ceramic of glass). Due to the Lapis
Lazuli being very rare and expensive the Egyptian felt they could benefit from doing
this. The Faience represents the first known

years of his education, elementary and middle to be exact, were rough for Elias.
Schoolwork was not a priority so Elias grades were neglected, with him only getting

The tenth poem stands out after the depiction of the gradually building tension
between the lovers in the previous texts as it once again, like the first and second
poem, seems to describe just the scenery. The speaker waits and contemplates a
beautiful flower bed, which he portrays in detailed sensual images.
The first verse outlines the situation and conveys the speaker s calm state of mind.
The verb betracht implies that he takes a long and close look at the flower bed, which
is beautiful ( schön ) to him. The situation is rather intimate as he looks and
contemplates for himself ( mir ) while waiting for someone or something. The verb
harren conveys hope and expectation, but the greedy desire and desperate longing

Purple black thorns surround the bed. Their dark colours and the verb umzäunt
(fenced in) underline that they protect the chalices, velvety ferns, green, round tufts
and white bells that grow inside. The erotic symbol of the chalice and the rich and
sensual language with seven adjectives that describe the colours, shape and
consistency of the flowers hint at the consummation of the lovers desire. The most
striking compound adjective is perhaps sammtgefiederte (velvet feathered), which
refers to both the shape and quality of the material and appears thus almost
synaesthetic. The unusual spelling with the double m contributes to the sensuous
quality of the poem s longest word that is used to describe the perhaps tallest plants
in the bed. The speaker enthuses over the magnificence of the flower bed. The
climactic effect of the anaphora Und in the fourth to sixth verse is further enhanced
by the description of an even more beautiful plant in each verse until the speaker s
gaze finally reaches the centre with the bell flowers that stand out due to their
softness and pure, white

40. The Importance Of Kidney Cancer In Australia
INTRODUCTION
Kidney cancer is a metabolic disease; comprised of several cancers in the kidney,
each with a different histology and clinical course (Linehan, 2011). Kidney cancer
occurs when abnormal kidney cells uncontrollably proliferate, developing into
aggressive tumours that may metastasize to other parts of the body.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
In 2013, kidney cancer was the 9th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia,
producing 3,059 new cases of kidney cancer, in which 1,987 were male and 1,071
were female (Cancer Australia, 2017). Kidney cancer accounted for 2.4% of all
cancer diagnoses in 2007, making it the 8th most common cancer diagnosed in
Australia. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common lethal lesion in the adult

Smoking is a well established risk factor for RCC which can be reduced after
smoking cessation for more than 10 years (Hunt JD, n.d.). Cigarette smoking
increases the risk of RCC through chronic tissue hypoxia due to carbon monoxide
exposure, as well as evidence displaying high levels of DNA damage in peripheral
blood lymphocytes with RCC patients (Qayyum, 2013). Obesity and long term
hypertension have an interesting association to the increased risk of kidney
cancer in that obesity is a risk factor for high levels of blood pressure; increased
pressure of blood movement damages the endothelial cells of the arteries, thus
representing a shared causal mechanism due to rising levels of blood pressure
(Sanfilippo, 2014). Obesity itself is associated with increased glomerular filtration
rate and increased renal plasma flow, rendering the kidneys more susceptible to
kidney damage and carcinogenesis (McTigue, 2014). Specifically, in women, excess
body weight has been recognized as a general risk factor for RCC, with obesity
estimated to be causally related to over 25% of US kidney cancer cases (Bergstrom,

very rare, but it can have serious consequences in a person s life. Doctors have
identified the causes and the symptoms, and have made a combination of effects for
treatment.
Pyromania could be caused by other mental disorders, such as addiction, anxiety, or
depression ( Summit Medical Group Web Site. ). Addiction, they have a criminal

many other subtle clues that point to this impulse control disorder being a problem.
Many children and adolescents who are pyromaniacs will have many other social
difficulties and an inability to cope with stress in normal, healthy ways. Depression
including suicidal thoughts is also seen in some who suffer from pyromania (

If not treated, this disorder can lead to serious consequences, including trouble with
authorities, injury due to fire, or an array of other mental and emotional difficulties (

Pyromania treatment consists of a combination of medication and long term
psychotherapy. ( All About Counseling ) There are a handful of steps for the
treatment. Treatments involve behavioral therapy in combination with
pharmacological treatments with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( How

42. Nazi Propaganda
Was the Great Depression was the catalyst for the growth of Nazi support?
The Great depression of 1030 left Germany s economy badly damaged. During the
early 1930s Germany experienced a time of economic downturn. Unemployment was
high and the economy was failing, many Germans could not even afford basic
necessities such as food. This essay shall discuss whether the Great Depression was
the catalyst for the growth of Nazi support. It is obvious that many Germans suffered
because of the depression. I personally feel that the Great Depression was the catalyst
for the growth in Nazi support because Germany had been badly damaged and
Germans wanted a strong leader, someone such as Hitler. However I feel there were
many other reasons why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were many other reasons and policies that gained the Nazis support. One of
the most important catalysts for the growth of Nazi support was Hitler himself.
Hitler was the Nazi s greatest campaigning asset. Hitler was a very powerful
speaker. He was years ahead of his time as a communicator. Hitler was the type of
leader that Germany needed and wanted. Hitler was able to appear to be a man of
the people, someone who knew and understood the people and their problems. Hitler
was the Nazi s trump card. The opposition had no one to match him.
Propaganda was another reason why Nazi support grew. Dr Joseph Goebbels was
the minister for Enlightenment and propaganda. Goebbels was a very clever man
and knew how to gain support; he was also very loyal to Hitler. He used every
resource available to him to make people loyal to Hitler and the Nazis. Goebbels
organized huge rallies. The rallies brought some colour and excitement to people s
lives. They gave them a sense of belonging to a great movement. The rallies also
showed the German people the power of the state and convinced them that every
other German supported the Nazis. The Nazis used every trick in the book to get
their message home. The Nazis knew that their anti communist stance was very
popular and their propaganda further whipped up fear and hatred of the communists.
The Nazis were also very well organized; this was due to many Nazis
43. The Kings Way of Goverment
Feudalism was based on the exchange of land for military service. It had levels of
status similar to modern society. In the Middle Ages, the Feudal System was a very
important system to kings in order for them to control entire countries.
The Feudal System was a vital system to William I who could not control all the
land he had. According to Chris Trueman, William had defeated the English army
lead by Harold Godwine but before he could be called King of England he had to
gain control of all of England. The English thought of William as a foreigner who
had forced his way into London. Since people didn t like him he had to use force to
maintain his control on England. It was extremely difficult for William to rule every

These manors were isolated, with occasional visits from peddlers, pilgrims on their
way to the Crusades, or soldiers from other fiefdoms. Family life was governed by
the place one held in society. The nobles had the highest stats and possessed the most
wealth and land. The clergy could be rich or poor, depending on their title and how
much influence they had over the people. The serfs had the lowest stats and
possessed the least amount of wealth and land (Characteristics).
Life in the Middle Ages was hard, especially for serfs, and few people could read or
write. During the years of the Roman Empire, the soldiers of the emperor protected
the poor people. Then when the empire fell, there were no laws protecting them, so
they turned to the lords to keep the peace and to act on their behalf. This willingness
of the poor people to be ruled by the lords led to the beginning of Feudalism. Some
peasants, poor people, were free, but most became serfs, slaves, to the lord. Serfs
generally lived in communities that were ruled by the local nobles. They could not
marry or even leave the manor without the lord s permission. Serfs did all the work
on the manor farm and all serfs worked: men, women, and children. They worked in
the fields, cared for animals, built and cared for buildings, made clothing, and
everything else that required manual labor. There were also servants who worked in
the manor doing the cooking, cleaning, laundering, and other household jobs. Serfs
44. Andrew Jackson, The Man On The Twenty Dollar Bill
Andrew Jackson, the man on the twenty dollar bill, is a highly respected
commander and an individual who should not be reckoned with. In Hickey s
Glorious Victory, he is regarded as the People s President and is arguably one of
the best leaders to have ruled this nation (Hickey, 48). Despite his success as
president, he is tangled in many contradictions. For example, he is known to be
racist to the Natives, but adopting a native orphan; he is also known as a
slaveholder, but he also welcomed free African Americans to join his army; he is a
general who lectured his superiors and ignored orders, while simultaneously
demanded unquestionable obedience from his men. Although some individuals
question the appropriateness of Jackson s face on the twenty dollar bill, his
achievements during presidency and in the military preserved the cohesiveness of
the American people through his leadership and unrelenting resilience. Jackson s
leadership played a prominent role in the victory of the war in 1812. Although he
had disagreements with Wilkinson during the Burr Conspiracy in 1807, Jackson
was able to set aside his animosity to put the nation first (46). One hardship Jackson
faced between his men and commanding officers was the uprising of mutinies; he
was able to keep his soldiers in line by instilling fear in them by having his officers
read the section of death penalty for mutineers in the Articles of War. Furthermore, in
the middle of his campaign in Natchez, he was
45. State X Enacted A Statute Essay
State X enacted a statute in 2000 that stated, the governor has the sole authority to
declare a state of emergency and, during the emergency, to suspend all rules,
regulations, and rights as seem fit without court supervision and/or authorization.
Following a breach of levees in City B located in State X, the governor of State X
ordered that all legal and illegal firearms be confiscated. The governor also ordered
all police and troops to conduct a house to house search and seizure of all such
weapons. In order to determine the constitutionality of the statute under the
circumstances, we must first examine the constitutional authorities prevalent to the
issue at hand. The constitutional authorities that apply to this statute are the 5th and
14th amendments. The 5th amendment states, No person shall be deprived of life,
liberty, or property without due process of law. The 14th amendment states in
pertinent part Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law. There are two types of due process; procedural and
substantive. Procedural due process occurs when an individual who is faced with
deprivation of property or liberty is denied notice and an opportunity to be heard
before a court. Substantive due process is a question of whether the state has a
reasonable basis for enacting a statute that interferes with one s liberty. Under the
current circumstances substantive due process would be appropriate in evaluating the

its customers buying patterns. The key to Anheuser Busch s real time analysis of
marketing effectiveness is timely data: getting information back from wholesalers and

Wholesaler and store level data has become the lifeblood of our organization, said
Joe Patti, Anheuser s vice president for retail planning and category management.
Therefore, Anheuser Busch created BudNET to connect to wholesalers, retailers,

48. Theme Of Indoctrination In Brave New World
Indoctrination to Mould Brave New World s Society
Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem. (Reagan)
Many factors can construct a conditioned society, by applying social norms and
ideologies. These factors influence the use of indoctrination and dehumanization in
society, which is an important theme throughout the novel. Aldous Huxley s novel,
Brave New World, is a great example of indoctrination; it demonstrates the effects of
conditioning in the process of dehumanization and the influence of a higher power on
society. This becomes apparent through essential factors, such as conditioning, sleep
teaching/hypnopaedia and the use of soma throughout the novel.
To begin, it is clearly expressed in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bold Alpha plus characters are portrayed as being confined to a mould that cannot
contain them. They are willing to sacrifice their reputation, to experience freedom
and take a chance at liberty. Bernard is an Alpha plus character in the novel, he is
usually anguished about his life. His date Lenina does not seem to understand or
reciprocate his emotions. Bernard, unlike most of the civilization of Brave New
World, has emotions, he wants privacy and monogamy, and has the ability to
understand beyond the knowledge of everyone else. This is uncommon to act this
way in Brave New World. He should want to partake in multiple sexual affairs and
taking generous amounts of soma. Bernard s conditioning did not work effectively
on him, consequently, he feels trapped in an indoctrinated world. This notion
becomes clear when Bernard says: In slaved by my own conditioning (80). Through
his emotions, it is clearly implied that he feels deprived of certain human qualities.
This tactic is the higher power manipulating society, by feeding the children phrases
and notions to create the ideal image of society. Furthermore, in the novel, death
conditioning is perceived as a normality. When John is in the Parklane Hospital for
the dying, watching Linda take her last breaths, he sees children swarming around the
bed, acting nonchalant. This topic becomes apparent in the novel when a group of
children is brought to the

addresses at Vienna and Manchester on Nuclear bombs. This book was first
published in 1961. The book is divided into four sections which are further divided
into many subsections. The first part deals with poets, writers and books that
influenced him in his youth. He has divided them according to his mood like at one
side where there is Shelley, Turgenev and Ibsen that satisfy his optimistic mood on
the other side there are

Polymer is a compound consisting of long chain molecules, each molecule made up
of repeating unit connected together by a covalent bond. Most polymers are based
on carbon and are therefore considered organic chemicals. Groover (2011) suggests
that ?the word polymer is derived from Greek, poly and meros, meaning many and
parts, respectively. Some scientists prefer to use the word macromolecules or large
molecules, instead of polymer?. The polymers are created by connecting many small
molecules forms together to make molecules are large. The small units are called
monomers. The atoms in molecules use covalent bond to connect together; and these
atoms are connected a polymer is considered to be the links of the chain. Carraher

51. Friedrich Nietzsche s Philosophy And Ethics
The Antichrist
Samuel Edwards
Central Christian College
May 6, 2016 Abstract: Friedrich Nietzsche devoted his life to the study of philosophy
and ethics. In particular to topics regarding Christianity and Atheism. A majority of
his writings are against Christianity and The Antichrist is no different. The following
paper will look into what Nietzsche wrote in The Antichrist and explore the ethical
principles that he proposes and dismisses in this writing. The Antichrist is a collection
of Friedrich Nietzsche writings that were put together by his niece shortly after his
death. She wrote an opening preface before his collection of writings that explain her
desire for publishing the writings and defending his standpoint. In her opening
statements, which were approximately 20% of the entire book, she made some
claims about Nietzsche, his writings, and his beliefs. She states that Nietzsche
...intended to attack Christianity headlong and with all arms... and that All his wrath...
was reserved for St. Paul and his like, who perverted the Beatitudes which Christ
intended for the lowly only. Despite saying this Nietzsche staid that he never set out
to destroy Christianity all together, so that the lowly and unintelligent would still
have an outlet. But to destroy Christianity for the intellectuals and the scholars. Oddly
enough he set out to ...make Paul the villain, and Jesus a bystander. ( After the
introduction by his niece a collection of 62 essays are arranged
52. United States Involvement For Terrorism And Spreading...
In 2003 the USA attacked Iraq. Washington s official account of the reasons to
invade Iraq was centred on the argument that Iraq is a threat to its neighbours as
well as to the USA. This was due to Iraq supposedly having WMDs and seeking for
nuclear weapons and Saddam being unpredictable and irrational actor. Furthermore,
it was argued that Saddam supports terrorists and could give WMDs to them. It
was USA s mission to bring democracy and freedom to the Iraqi people (Hudson,
2005: 298 299). Some scholars support the official account as the real reason for the
invasion, but there are many critical scholars. Some of them advance the theory that
behind the attack was the urge to protect Israel or the effect that pro Israeli voices

In the same speech he promised the continuation of war on terror (Bush, 2002). It
was stressed by Condoleezza Rice, who was the Assistant to the President for
National Security Affairs, that Iraq was unwilling to cooperate with the UN
inspectors and that Iraq was lying about its assumed WMDs (Rice, 2002). Bush,
Rice and other members of the administration made clear that Iraq was dangerous
because of its WMDs and therefore Iraq should be invaded. It was also stated in the
Joint Resolution that authorised the war that Iraq had WMDs, seeked nuclear
weapons and was a threat to the USA (H.R.J. Res. 114, 2002).
However, if WMDs and noncooperation with UN inspectors made Iraq such a huge
threat, it has to be asked why Egypt and Israel, for example, were not attacked. For
example, Israel has not ratified the Nonproliferation Treaty or the 1972 biological and
toxic weapons convention and Egypt has not signed the Chemical Weapons
Convention (Hubbel, 1998). Moreover, in general, it is not only Saddam Hussein
who has murdered thousands and defied UN resolutions. The USA, however, is not
seriously planning to attack those other states (Mearsheimer and Walt, 2003).
David Dunn argues that this is, when it comes to North Korea, because the
administration believes that North Korea is militarily strong enough to deter the
USA, but Iraq is not and Iraq has to be stopped before it is, too. (Dunn, 2003: 286)
Even if this was true for all the states in the
53. Cochlear Implants
Hearing loss in childhood and infancy can have a major effect on the development
and continuation of language. It hinders the acoustic signal that enters the ear
canal to not be fully received by the auditory cortex which then affects and distorts
what we receive and how we comprehend the auditory stimuli. There are different
types and degrees of severity of hearing loss that can impair one or both ears, or
can be congenital. Children with a hearing loss that is either severe or profound, in
both ears, sensory neural, or congenital are considered to be a candidate for a
cochlear implant. Cochlear implants are the only way for these children to develop
oral language and auditory skills when hearing aids are not beneficial (Jimenez
Romero, 2015).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They examined the infant s attention to speech to determine language development.
The main purpose was to compare whether infant directed speech or adult directed
speech influenced the infant s attention to speech. The researchers also wanted to
conclude if the infants with cochlear implants payed attention to infant directed
speech and to see if that associated with language development. The results
established that infant directed speech does have an effect on deaf infants, with
cochlear implants, attention to speech. Infants with cochlear implants prefer infant
directed speech over adult directed speech and this has a result on language
development (Wang et al.,
54. Music And Memory Disposal
The purpose of this experiment was to test the effects of music on memory
consolidation. We assigned participants to one of three auditory conditions: no music,
instrumental music, or vocal music and asked them to read a word list and recall as
many words from the list as they could. Our central hypothesis was that participants
who listened to instrumental musicwould have better memory recall. However, we
found that there was not a significant difference between the amount of words learned
and group assignment, therefore falsifying our hypothesis. In other words, we
concluded that participants who were exposed to instrumental music did not differ
significantly in scores from those who listened to vocal music or no music. Our
findings were similar to previous research, which concluded that type of music did
not affect learningin different ways (Jäncke, 2014).... Show more content on

However, another study concluded that background speech interferes with reading
and the consolidation of text in an effect known as the unattended speech effect. In
terms of music, the unattended speech effect can manifest in vocal music, which has
been shown to interfere with learning, and as a result, negatively influenced
cognitive performance in memory tasks (Kang Lakshmanan, 2017). Kang and
Lakshmanan s findings counter our study and Jäncke s results because we
concluded that different types of music do not affect memory recall whereas Kang
and Lakshmanan concluded that vocal music specifically depreciates memory
abilities. This is especially concerning because our study and previous literature had
varied findings, which causes a lack of comprehensiveness on the topic of type of
music and its effect on memory

56. Analysis Of The Deer At Providencia By Annie Dillard
The Deer At Providencia and God In The Doorway What is God s true purpose in
our lives? Throughout Annie Dillard s collection of short stories entitled Teaching A
Stone To Talk, she endeavors to answer this and many other questions. This query in
particular is most prominent in her two short stories The Deer At Providencia and God
In The Doorway. God In The Doorway presents the two different personalities God
can be perceived as having while predominantly displaying one personality. The
Deer At Providencia displays the other personality God is rumored to have through
a clever and effective motif. Overall, God takes center stage throughout the writings
of Dillard especially in the aforementioned short stories. Prior to delving into the
mystical worlds that Dillards essays present it is first essential to understand her
mindset. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1945 and was the eldest of
three siblings but was the only one who attended a Presbyterian Church. She stopped
attending said Church as a teen due to what she described as hypocrisy but remained
religious. However following her graduation from Hollins College, Dillard claimed to
be spiritually promiscuous and in many of her stories hints of other religions can be
seen throughout. In 1988 Dillard announced that she was a Roman Catholic and even
won a prize given only to Catholic authors. Around 1999 she denounced parts of the
Christian doctrine but maintained that she remained close to the Christian faith
57. Self-Assessment Evaluation
My score on the self assessment evaluation was 84, and according to that I listen
well , but I know I can work to improve that. One of my lower scores from bad
listening habits was Giving in to mental distractions and Judging a speaker on
personal appearance . To comment on giving in to Mental distractions, sometimes
because you have so much going on at work, at home, in school, you are easily
distract with many thoughts. A great example for me was Tuesday at work, many
times throughout the day, I caught myself thinking about my speech, so during a
meeting when someone was talking, my mind was drifting to those thoughts again,
so one of the techniques that I used was bring my mind right back to meeting and
focus hard on the message given.
