Example Of Profile Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Example of Profile Essay" can be a challenging endeavor. The
difficulty arises not only from the need to understand the intricacies of profiling but also in
effectively conveying a person's essence through words. It requires a keen observational eye, the
ability to extract meaningful details, and the skill to weave them into a coherent narrative.
To begin with, the task demands a thorough understanding of the subject's background,
personality, and the context in which they exist. This often involves extensive research,
interviews, and firsthand experiences. The challenge lies in striking the right balance between
presenting factual information and infusing the essay with a captivating storytelling element.
Moreover, capturing the nuances of an individual's character and life requires a delicate touch. It
involves navigating through personal anecdotes, achievements, challenges, and the subtleties that
make the person unique. The writer must not only be an adept wordsmith but also possess
empathy to truly connect with the subject and the audience.
The structure of a profile essay adds another layer of complexity. Balancing the chronological
flow with thematic elements while maintaining coherence and engagement can be like walking a
tightrope. The writer needs to be meticulous in organizing information, ensuring a seamless
transition from one aspect of the profile to another.
Additionally, selecting the right tone and style is crucial. Striking the right chord between
objectivity and emotional resonance is challenging, as the writer strives to bring the subject to
life on paper. Precision in language and a keen awareness of the impact of each word are
essential to convey the intended message accurately.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the topic "Example of Profile Essay" demands a fusion of
research, empathy, and literary finesse. It involves navigating through the complexities of a
person's life, organizing information thoughtfully, and presenting it in a way that captivates the
reader. While the task may seem formidable, the rewards lie in creating a vivid and compelling
portrait.

Inguinal Hernia Repair
An account of a patient whose care I was involved during my clinical placement
(anaesthetic care module)
The patient, while undergoing a routine physical examination, presented a hernia
complication. It was an incisional hernia with a notable lesion around the groin. The
complication was detected from an informal diagnosis by a family member after a
manifestation of a bulge around the inguinal region. The patient had a history of
constant but intermittent intra abdominal pressure from physical activities. The hernia
complication was reported to manifest external bulges and internal pain in the
abdomen from time to time. The patient was put under routine observation, and the
examination confirmed a history of characteristic swelling ... Show more content on

This was then followed by the use of plugs to contain the internal ring used to
contain the protrusion caused by a hernia as devised by surgeon Ambroise Pare.
Surgical interventions on hernia repair without prosthetics such as mesh were
inferior and reported almost a 100% follow up cases of patients with a hernia
recurrence. In additional to this, there were fatalities from the failure of the surgical
procedures. As from experience a rapid shift to the use of mesh prosthetics to repair
sutures in the implementation of surgical interventions to aid patients came to be

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue
despite laws and regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling
fleets from Japan use scientific research to justify continued whaling in the Southern
Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed
countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little interference. If
whalingcontinues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of
the Southern Ocean.
A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other
species in the ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because
whales are a keystone species in the Southern Ocean (Ainley, ... Show more content

Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes;
countries are allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific

Ecosystem
To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web
created by Laws.
The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the
southern ocean. These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the
humpback whale, and the minke whale. As shown in the food web, the main food
source of these whales is krill. This is important to note in regards to the issues of
prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in the research.

Issue
The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of
scientific whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the
Southern Ocean has sparked a debate about what is considered research, and what is
considered whaling, and many are coming to realize there is a fine line between the
two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling in the Southern
Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program
is that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to

had increased by 78% since 1995 . The bargaining power of buyers is high because
retailers such as supermarkets have high bargaining leverage, customers are price
sensitive, and their switching costs are low. The threat of substitute products is
high. Customers can substitute wine with any other alcoholic as well as a non
alcoholic beverage. And the bargaining power of suppliers is high as well.
Substitute for high quality grapes is not available. In 1998 RMC had a gross profit
margin shortfall of 1.4% from the previous year due to not enough available
Chardonnay grapes to meet domestic production target.
Since RMC has established its brand image as the top quality premium wines
through years of wine development and partnerships with top world brands like
Marchesi de Frescobaldi, the Chadwick, and Opus One, it is more attractive for RMC
to pursue higher income market segment. The high earnings associated with greater
wine consumption. This market segment is less sensitive to price changes, high end
wines demands usually exceed supply which creates an opportunity for this segment,
and retailers have lass of bargaining power since producers can sell high quality wines
through restaurants, hotels, and wine shops.
RMC s Strategy
Lower priced market segments like jug wine accounted for 44% of the table wine,
while it consisted only 17% of the total revenue in 1999. Popular
Solution Of Water Pollution
Introduction
People usually don t check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust
that just because it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of
pollutants, but that is not always the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very
common and dangerous because the bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems
that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and bacterias that lead to the health
problems. What is water pollution?
Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water
pollution is caused by pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt
Environmental
Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical,
or biological agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the
organisms that depend on water. These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs,
rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water pollution comes from industrialization and
rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every aspect of life from humans,
plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution affects
animal life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can
become sick and die off and can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the
humans that eat them. That contamination now is spread to the human population
which negatively affects our communities and

Abstract
The SAARC region with over a billion populations is contiguous to the Indian Ocean,
Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Utilization of ocean resources for power
generation such as tidal, thermal solar and wind for energy, along with other green
technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable fisheries for food would need to
be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Development of ocean based
energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked by satellite
which can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural
disasters on human life. . Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunamiof
2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods, earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent
inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood management. A SAARC
comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in alignment
with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of
disaster management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions,
impeding disasters due to climate change need to be anticipated. Ocean energy
systems are still in their infancy, while ocean
Competitive Behaviors And Practices, By Cathy Davidson,...
Ever since a young age, the youth of the United States are taught that they must
strive to be the best they can be. This would ultimately result in one possessing a
competitive edge, once one enters the selection process of joining one of many
higher institutions of education or the job market. In the essays Project Classroom
Makeover, Biographies of Hegemony, and Rent Seeking and the Making of an
Unequal Society, respectfully by, Cathy Davidson, Karen Ho, and Joseph Stiglitz, the
topic of competitive behaviors and practices is widely addressed and heavily
criticized. Educationis competitive, yet bias. Institutions of higher educationvalue
students based irrelevant factors, something which is unacceptable in the modern,
digital age. This heavily impacts the selection process of candidates, leading the
system to favor unqualified individuals. Prevalent business superpowers, many
residing in Wall Street, pick low hanging fruit. In other words, these firms take very
minimal effort to choose candidates in positions that are extremely competitive and
valuable. They recruit individuals who graduate from top schools and have no other
realistic edge for the company, aside from namesake. Woven into these practices,
many examples of uncompetitive behavior arise as well from other factors of the
system. In this essay, I argue that competitive and uncompetitive behaviors have
molded modern America, with massive organizations and authorities playing into
these behaviors from all
Relationship Between Inequality And Economic Growth
Introduction Since the establishment of the People s Republic of China in 1949 with
its government socialist ideology, planned economy during the economic reforms,
which started in 1978 and are still going on until nowadays, China has had continued
presence of inequality. In my work I overview the evolution of inequality that could
be divided into two historical periods: pre reform period (1949 1978) and the reform
period (1978 onwards). I also examine the correlation between inequality and
economic growth in China. Although, with the sustained economic development and
increase of living standards for the last three decades, China s uneven regional
development has been a serious phenomenon. During the time of triple transition that
includes decentralization, modernization and globalization the nature of regional
development and its inequality has been changed fundamentally. Inequality has
become the engine of progress; I argue that nowadays inequality in China is
unavoidable for future development. Pre reform period Geographically China is
divided into three parts: western, central and eastern (coastal) regions. Based on the
historical development, natural resources, and climate they have their own
distinctions. The new government considered development imbalance as an
important issue because of three significant factors. First, the interior labor market
was far away from coastal area. The second factor is the raw materials and energy
supply were far away from coastal

The Revolution of Three Dimensional Printing
As times change and new technologies emerge that create a paradigm shift,
companies have to adapt to prevent becoming obsolete. According to Forrest and Cao
(2013), Periodically, a new technology comes along wherein its dissemination
completely redefines the fundamental operating principles of entire economies and
civilizations . Forrest and Cao (2013) continue to say that there have been many
paradigm shifts throughout history. The most recent of which is three dimensional
(3D) printing. Campbell, Williams, Ivanova, and Garrett (2011) predict that 3D
printing could up end the last two centuries of approaches to design and
manufacturing . It is essential for companies to stay ahead competition during this
technology shift, in order to stay successful in the changing manufacturing paradigm,
however other aspects of the life course, such as medical fields, homemaking and
consumerists will also be affected.
ADVANCEMENT IN TECHNOLOGY
3D Printing Revolution
As the new age of manufacturing is beginning, it brings with it the associated
technology, which caused the change. In this case it is 3D printing. There are
significant revolutionary differences between using 3D printing for manufacturing
and traditional manufacturing techniques, like the ones that are more commonly used.

Muir was a man that loved to explore natural formations in nature and traveled

places to explore and watch were the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Yosemite. As
more and more settlers moved West, the land that Muir loved was soon to be

Muir wrote most of his 300 articles and 10 major books in Oakland, California. In

Hashimoto s Thyroid Disease
Immune system attacking the thyroid
The immune system is consisted of cells and tissues throughout the whole body. They
work together to defend your body from any types of invasion and infections.
Problems with the immune system can cause the immune system to mistaken the
healthy body cells as invaders and will repeatedly attack the cells; this is known as an
autoimmune disease. An example of this disease is the Hashimoto s thyroiditis,
where the immune systems mistakenly recognizes the thyroid cells as invaders and
attack the thyroid.
Immune System
There are two parts in the immune system that help the body from being invaded or
infected: innate immunity and the adaptive immunity. The innate immunity is the
initial response to invaders and consists of defense mechanism: surface barriers and
the internal defense. The first defense mechanism in the innate immunity is the
body surface barriers, such as the skin and the mucous membrane. The surface
barriers serve as mechanical, physical and chemical barriers. Mechanical barriers
are consisted of your mucosa lining in the stomach. This lining has enzymes like: 1)
amylase, breaks down starch into smaller carbohydrates; 2) protease, breaks down
proteins into amino acids; 3) lipase, breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol;
and 4) other enzymes are the cells that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hashimoto s disease is now recognized as an autoimmune disease and the primary
cause of hypothyroidism, occurring almost twice as often in women than in men. The
immune system of someone with Hashimoto s thyroiditis, will mistakenly recognizes

these cells (American Thyroid Association). When the immune system attack the
thyroid, this can lead to hypothyroidism. This is when the body is not making enough

A Social Class System
There is no way to deny that a social class system exists that divides people by
general popularity. Once children begin school, they begin to separate into these
divisions. The top of the social ladder, often considered to be people who are cool,
are stereotyped to be beautiful and happy. Although in some cases this may be
true, it is not always that way. Misconceptions about popularity lead to a greater
divide amongst the social classes, and cause those in the lower social levels to be
considered as or to feel as if they are inferior. Articles like one written by Christian
McBride, entitled Be Cool, published in This I Believe II, continue to develop the
false ideology that one must be popular in order to live a full, happy life. McBride
believes that, Being cool is not what you say or do, but how you say or do it,
(McBride 160) and due to the fact that, ... I sleep well at night, and work with
people who apparently like to work with me, (McBride, 158) he is cool himself. A

the psychological and social consequences of war, acts of terrorism and disasters

for military members and their family members. The work of Matthewson (nd)
states that it is not the battlefield upon which the attacks take place, but rather, it is
in the mind the psychology of those who survive. (p.192) Matthewson additionally
states that disasters both natural and human made, can elicit fear, anger and worry
in victims, their family and friends and could lead to psychological symptoms of
anxiety and depression. (p.192) I. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) The
Mayo Clinic describes Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) as a mental health

the symptoms get better after time however, in more severe cases the symptoms do

Tacitus Compare And Contrast Essay
The history of the Roman Empire is clearly described by various authors of the
time Polybius, Josephus and Tacitus. The ancient histories of these three authors
bring out the ideal morals of the Romans. This is mostly brought out by describing
how the empire was involved in civil war and how they stood out. Tacitus was well
known in his involvement in politics as a senator and was good in public speaking.
He moved to Rome to live with his father a very wealthy person in the Roman
government at the time. Polybius origin was from Greek and was in the army of
the Achaean League. He was an officer in the League and he helped in the fight
against the Romans. However, their army was defeated and thereafter he was held
captive and taken to Italy where he began his writing career (Polybius. and
Shuckburgh). Flavius Josephus was a Jew who initially fought a battle of the Jews

Middle Ages Vs Renaissance
The trademark trait of humanity is curiosity: it is what drives us as a race of
individuals to create and innovate, to question and conclude. The Ancient Greeks
developed as a culture due to the curiosity of many great thinkers, making strides in
the fields of philosophy and math and raising a civilization with lasting influence on
every empire to come. Sculptors studied the human form and philosophers attempted
to understand man s place in the universe. The Middle Ages, however, lacked this
metaphysical approach to life: people were not comfortable questioning their
surroundings and therefore made little room for cultural innovation. The Renaissance
as we know it saw a revival of the classical thought of the ancient Greeks and
Romans, paving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Middle Ages, intellectuals had access to a very limited selection of
classical works. It wasn t until the 12th Century that important academic texts began
to be translated: Byzantine and Spanish Islamic scholars made it possible for the
works of Aristotle on logic, the writings of Euclid and Ptolemy, the basic works of
Greek physicians and Arab mathematicians, and the larger texts of Roman law to
circulate among Western scholars (Kagan, 271). Even after more classical knowledge
was finally introduced, the established education system left little room for further
intellectual advancement. During the High Middle Ages, universities taught subjects
by reciting a summa, which was a crude summary of all that was supposedly known
about a certain subject. Summas were taught through recitation and memorization,
leaving little room for independent thought. The assumption was that truth already
existed; it was not something that one had to go out and find. It was there, requiring
only to be properly organized, elucidated, and defended. Such conviction made logic
and dialectic the focus of education (Kagan, 274). If truth already existed, then there
was no need to delve deeper into any subject. This creative stagnation brought on by
summas was the chief flaw in Medieval education. The Renaissance saw the rise in a
type of education called Humanism, or studia humanitatis. Humanism was derived
from the studies of Greek and Roman thinkers, and was an immense undertaking to
understand, translate, publish, and teach the texts of the past as a means of
understanding and transforming their own present (Brotton, 39). Young intellectuals
used studia humanitatis to gain both worldly success and a better understanding of
the world around them. This also led to the rise in a liberal arts mentality. In his

Identity Crises: The Inequality of Women in The Beaux Stratagem and She Stoops to

Plays during the Restoration period often contained characters dressed up in disguise
as a way to create conflict and to manipulate the plot. Conversely, the false identities
in which these characters adopt, help readers learn about social hierarchy.
Specifically, characters like Archer and Aimwell from George Farquhars The Beaux
Stratagem and Kate Hardcastle from Oliver Goldsmith s She Stoops to Conquer
illustrate that when their personalities change, that the social situation changes.
Additionally, all of these characters subversively modify their identities to manipulate
social standards and hierarchy in order to exploit people. However, Kate Hardcastle

to a lower class barmaid, Marlow tries to take sexual advantage of her. This shows
us that women from the lower classes were viewed as purely sexual, and not
marriage material. Secondly, there is Dorinda, who is an heiress, and is
economically objectified by Aimewell who alters his identity to seduce women, like
Dorinda. Dorinda s situation signifies inequality in women because even though
Dorinda knows that Aimwell lied to her, she sacrifices her power and become the
property of Aimwell via marriage all for social status. This represents the weakness
that women from the upper class exhibited. Both examples are important is studying
literature from the Restoration period because both examples provide clues to the
inequalities and exploitations that women went

Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms is a great adventure of ones life. A
great love story of a man, Frederic Henry, and a woman, Catherine Barkley, that are
in a
time of war. Hemingway wanted to connect with his readers and make an amazing
story,
which he did.
Hemingway has a unique way of using words. He uses repetition quite a bit in the
story with things like the continuing use of to morrow and on page six talks about the
oak trees and the oak forests. The way Hemingway connects to his readers so well is
the
use of adjectives, also how he sets up his sentences. He uses adjectives that are very
common they aren t hard to figure out what they mean. For example, within the first
two
chapters of the book he explains the summer nights as cool and the whether very nice.

The Importance Of Media In The Media
Media is everywhere around the world, it surrounds us even when sometimes we
don t even notice it. It can appear from newspapers to news, or as well physically
and throughout electronic devices such as cell phones. We consider it as a tool to
make time fly ahead or to spectate what is going on with other people s lives.
However, we may encounter certain factors that may not appeal to us. We may see
postings or news about tragic events that happen around the world and surprisingly,
sometimes we don t even bother to care, due to the fact that it wasn t us in that
situation. There are a great number of aspects to be resolved for this world to be free
from issues, but a question that comes to mind is, What if it never... Show more

An example that can relate to this song is when 9/11 happened, due to terrorists.
An unexpected tragic event that no one thought would happen that took many
lives from loved ones to close ones. In addition, Billie Joe Armstrong s pathos has
an outstanding true meaning based from the lyrics, A new day dawning, comes
without warning... . One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new
opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie
Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though
we live happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any
time with unpredictable outcome. A second example based on this observation
can be the terror attack that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred
in a London train underground that injured 30 passengers on board. And
furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he
too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In addition to
the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible
for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? When it s
exclusive? , as if he were trying to say that it would have to take a miracle for the
world to resolve from this. Many people have experienced moments when others are
made fun of or times when people fight for various reasons such as an argument.
Analysis Of Friedman s Capitalism And Freedom
Econ 160 Term Paper Part 1 As Milton Friedman once said, Freedom is a rare and
delicate plant. Our minds tell us and history confirms that the great threat to
freedom is the concentration of power. Government is necessary to preserve our
freedom, it is an instrument through which we can exercise our freedom; yet by
concentrating power and political hands, it is also a threat to freedom. Friedman s
Capitalism and Freedom takes us into the mind of an economic genius and shows
us his beliefs in a free market and the threat it presents to a dictatorship. Friedman,
clearly a supporter of the free market, gives examples to show how a free market
can aid a society in striving for success, becoming more dominant, and becoming
more powerful. Though, at times he does show how a free market has
disadvantages and he makes us aware as to how it can aid people in gaining
individualism, knowledge, and overall improving a society. A free market is one
that the price of a good or service is determined by supply and demand, in theory,
rather than by government regulation. Milton s thoughts and theory is that through
a robust free market with political freedom, economic freedom will follow.
Showing how economic freedom is a crucial toward the success of political
freedom, Friedman s theory of a free market and the Do Nothing Principle are major
themes throughout his book. A dictatorship is a form of government ruled by a
single party or a single party of dictators. In this form of

2 Specific Emotion Based Copywriting Techniques
For a long time professional copywriters have known that appealing to emotions is
by far the most fruitful way to win peoples pennies.
However, if you aren t a natural sales person it s surprisingly hard to find concrete,

Stories that play on potential customers fears and dreams work especially well. It
doesn t even have to be a real story, imagining your product in a different time
period or being used by someone unexpected. When you see ads with celebrities
using the products that is exactly what marketers are doing. For an example of a
product in a different time period I pulled up the Pepsi Kung Fu commercial circa
2004.
Stories are also important to your overall company image. You undoubtedly have an

can be a compelling marketing piece in and of itself. I ll do a more in depth post
about crafting a great company history in a future post, but it wouldn t hurt to put
your thinking cap on now and jot down a few critical points in your companies

Figures of Speech
If you ve tried, but just aren t a natural storyteller, don t worry plenty aren t and
they do just fine in advertising. Figures of speech are a way of structuring your

what they are and even harder to describe if you do know.
The best way I can put it is:

Effects Of War On The Army And National Guard Essay
Effects of War on the Army vs National Guard The Soldier started his career in the
United States (U.S.) Army in 1987, completing Basic Training (BT) and Advanced
Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma as a cannon crewmember. His initial
active duty enlistment was for three years but due to Operations Desert Shield and
Desert Storm, the Soldier fell under Operation Stop Loss, delaying his initial
expiration term of service (ETS) date by six months. During his enlistment with the
U.S. Army, he saw a couple of major changes within the Modified Table of
Organization and Equipment (MTOE). Each of these changes resulted in his current
unit changing in strength and equipment. Although at the time, this young Soldier
did not completely understand the complexity of the changes, he did understand how
the changes affected how his section completed their daily duties and his direct chain
of command. For example, the U.S. Army s Field Artillery units changed from a three
by six gun concept to three by eight units. With this change, artillery firing batteries
acquired additional Soldiers and equipment. The U.S. Army did not seem to have any
issues filling vacant positions with enlisted Soldiers, Non commissioned Officers
(NCOs), or Officers. This MTOE change caused growth, which allowed promotions
through Permanent Change of Station (PCS) thus allowing more junior enlisted
positions to become available. Recruiters then fill the junior enlisted positions without

We waited 1 minute. The colour on the pad was compared with the colour chart to see
the nitrate level. The nitrate level was recorded. Then a phosphate test was carried
out. Firstly 5ml of the water from the river was placed in a container. There were
two reagents. 5 drops of reagent 1 and 1 micro spoon of reagent 2 was added to the
water. The lid was replaced and the container was shaken. We waited 2 minutes and
took the lid off. The colour of the mixture was compared with the colour chart and
the phosphate content was recorded. Then the oxygen test was carried out. The
meter was set for air and the probe was placed in the air. His was set as 100%. The
probe was then placed in the river and the reading went down or up comparing its
oxygen content with the oxygen in the air. Finally the temperature of the water was
measured. This was done using a thermometer.
At each sight we also noted down descriptions of the site e.g. the surrounding land
use, the cleanliness of the water, the depth and width of the river. This was done so
that the pollution of the river could be explained.

While doing the freshwater fieldwork there were a few safety hazards. There was a
chance of infection occurring e.g. Weils Disease. Therefore I had to take
precautions: 1) small cuts covered with tape, 2) gloves worn, 3) no eating or

Importance Of Family Values
The values that are most important to me are family, a strong work ethic, integrity,
and respect. I am Hispanic, so we come from a very family oriented culture, thus
making family the utmost significant value. We have a great sense of unity that goes
beyond the immediate family (parents and siblings) and includes the extended family
(grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) and close friends. Having a strong
work ethic is a value I have inherited from my parents. From an early age, my
parents have told me, You never get anywhere unless you work hard for it . That
kind of mentality has stayed with me ever since. They believe if you don t work
hard at something then you truly don t appreciate it. I have worked hard all my
life to get to where I am now and I continue to work to get to where I want to be.
Integrity and respect are values I keep near and dear to me. I believe that we should
always do things with integrity. I believe one must have respect for others and
themselves.
These values were formed and influenced mainly by my family, ethnicity, culture
and environment I was raised in. This set of values have influenced me and shaped
the person I am today. Growing up, I was always surrounded with my family
whether it was my immediate family or my extended one. My grandparents were
like second parents to me and my cousins were my best friends. My family has
worked extremely hard, and has faced many adversities to be where they are today
and to have everything they do
Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary Essay
The Cretaceous Paleogene boundary that occurred around 65 million years ago marks
one of the three largest mass extinctions in the past 500 million years. The hypotheses
of Cretaceous Tertiary boundary impact on YucatГ
Ўn Peninsula, Mexico shows
evidence in the Gulf of Mexico of turbidity currents, and giant waves occurring
because of the impact. There is also other evidence that impact ejecta were
distributed all over the world. The mineral that was ejected during this impact was
iridium. Iridium is a mineral that is commonly used to indicate a rock layer from the
K T boundary. Iridium is only found naturally on extraterrestrial bodies. In addition to

The four controls for a turbiditie sequence to form are tectonic activity, climate,
sedimentary processes, and sea level fluctuations. The mass of the bolide that
impacted the Yucatan Peninsula would have been large enough to irritate the
plates, and possibly catalyze their movements. The suggested size of the bolide is
around 180 kilometers. The climate of the time can be closer examined by
checking the paleontology of rock layers found before and after the K T boundary.
Sedimentary processes and sea level fluctuations could have taken a huge turn, due
to the fact that an unexpected large extraterrestrial body crashed into the Yucatan
Peninsula. It is also suggested by geoscientists that a tsunami about 50 to 100
meters high hit the coast of Texas, which resulted in an unconformity near Brazos
River, Texas. The two major end members of a turbidite are coarse grained to sand
rich and then fine grained to mud rich. These two end members are important
because they are used in order to examine submarine fans. Submarine fans can be

Dr. Jekyll Essay
In the Victorian Era, one of the most important parts of one s everyday life was the
need to protect his or her reputation. While some abided by the Victorian moral code
of conduct, others kept their evil hidden in an attempt to secure their reputation.
Because of this, creating excuses for one s actions were commonplace. As seen in the
last chapter of Robert Louis Stevensons novella, the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde, titled, Jekyll s Full Statement of the Case . In this final chapter, Dr. Henry
Jekyll writes a letter to his only good friend left, Mr. John Utterson. Throughout the

Through the sympathy that Utterson feels, the blame is effectively pushed unto
Hyde, saving Jekyll s reputation.
In order to make his point more believable, it is important that Jekyll includes a
back story explaining exactly why he created Hyde to begin with. Jekyll is an
intelligent, well respected man in his community with large sums of money, yet
he turns himself into Hyde, who is hated by nearly everyone upon first glance.
While this is a confusing state of events, Jekyll gives a historical precedent to
facilitate his explanation. In the opening of his letter, Jekyll gives an in depth
description of the pressures he faced being born to a large fortune, endowed
besides with excellent parts, inclined by nature to industry, fond of the respect of
the wise and good among my fellow men, and thus, as might have been supposed.
(47). Being born into wealth and respect gave Jekyll no chance to escape societal
pressures, which were exceptionally high during the Victorian Era. Jekyll continues
by asserting that he found it hard to reconcile with [his] imperious desire to carry
[his] head high and wear a more than commonly grave countenance before the
public. Hence it came about that [he] concealed [his] pleasures. (48). Jekyll s
conflict between societies expectations and what he really wants to do leads him to
find a solution: Hyde. When Jekyll first turns into Hyde, he is in awe because he

to just squeeze every little bit she has left. This plan could backfire with her tiring her

The Value Of Movies In Movies And Film Education
Your movies are shit , said to me, the first year, senior, film major at the best arts
boarding school in country. I have tirelessly made film after film since the age of
eight, eventually wanting to reach even higher with my film education. Having
been given the privilege to actually study film in a classroom setting, I was ecstatic.
After being told my whole life how talented I am, after getting into the best high
school film program in the country, my ego was shattered when my stone faced
roommate didn t even make eye contact while mumbling Your movies just aren t
good. I would consider myself literate. I ve been through 1st grade being an avid
reader along the way so my understanding of English is quite decent. Although the
concept of being literate is not that simple. Take someone with a masters degree in
English and drop them in some African village, their literacywill mean nothing.
Literacy is based on surroundings. Though to be literate is not only to be proficient
in reading and writing. One can be literate in math, science, history, art, or in my
case... film.
My roommate was a year and a half younger than me and he had the nerve to tell
me I was no good. It was the age difference that struck me. I was on such a high
pedestal that I failed to notice his quite apparent talent. Your movies are shit was the
best advice I could receive from someone like him at the time. I ve never been told
that before! Although due to my arrogance I took his comments with a grain
My Winter Vacation
This was my second day in California. On the 24th of December, we all agreed on
going to California for winter break. So, on the 25th of December in the afternoon
after we opened our presents, we all started packing everything only for three days. It
was about 9:00pm when we went to sleep because we all wanted my dad to rest so he
could drive the whole way. At 7:00 am on December 26th we all started to put things
in the car, all our luggage and backpacks, we also decided to bring our dog and some
food for later if we were hungry. We headed off at 8:30 so we could get to California
earlier. Right when we were on the road my brother and sister fell back asleep
because they were so excited they couldn t sleep last night so they passed out in the
car. So, we started to head to Utahand we were really nervouse the whole way. We
didn t stop at all because we really wanted to leave Colorado as soon as possible.
After a long drive that seemed like we were driving for ages we saw a sign and it
said, leaving colorful Colorado. My parents were really excited and they asked me
if I was excited said yes with an excited tone and a big smile. We kept on going still
very excited that we have just left Colorado and headed into Utah. When we drove
deeper into Utah, everything looked way different then Colorado. There were no
buildings and no people walking, running, or cycling. The rocks and sand were kind
of orange but the mountains were really orange and red colored. After we had gotten
The Tale Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Once upon a time, a poor peasant lived with his seven quarreling sons in a cozy
cottage amidst the enveloping woods. All of the peasant s sons had an extremely
cold heart and a selfish mind except the youngest, Lumio. He was different. A
charming boy he was; an outgoing personality he possessed. And of course, his
older brothers, especially Fuscus, grew more and more envious of him until one
day, they succumbed to the envy as they could take it no more. You see, all the
brothers loved an enchanting princess who ruled over their small plot of land. Day
after day, and night after night, they cared only about the princess and none other.
They saw their youngest brother as a vexing, immediate hindrance to their already
slim chances of impressing the so desired princess as they feared that if the
princess met Lumio, the couple would forever be knit, and so, the story continues.
Frustrated, the jealous brothers devised a wicked, desperate plot to rid themselves
of their annoying hindrance, their brother. Fuscus, the oldest brother, spoke. Have
you heard of the deep, dank well beyond the wood? Legend has it that the well is
cursed to be the lair of the Golden Devil. What say? And so, the next day, Lumio and
his brothers walked to the well in silence. A repeated, resonating caw from a raven
made even Fuscus himself turn cold with fear as if it was a glaring reminder of the
terrible deed he would perform very soon. Closer and closer the well drew, each step,
a mile. Poor Lumio
The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because
of rampant starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on
various media. World Hunger is one of the main problems that a large portion of the
global population faces today. Hunger varies with severity but in this case it is the
want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that has existed for
much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is
barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating
factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation,
climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has
led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There
are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are
so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or
poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and
hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are
young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing
countries die because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of
population, the number of hungry people also increases at a disproportionate rate.
Torment of Saint Anthony

Intro To Art History The Torment of Saint Anthony is the earliest known painting by
Michelangelo. The artist was only twelve years old when he created this masterpiece,
and the piece is now currently a part of the permanent collection at the Kimbell Art
Museum. The painting shows demons and devils ambushing the Medieval Saint
Anthony, in an ironically peaceful landscape. The compiling details of this painting
emerges a dark and mysterious light that may depict how Michelangelo was feeling
at the time of his creation. There are a few major compositional shapes that really
stand out from the rest of the painting. The first is saint Anthony, who is wearing...

The lines are fierce so the teeth seem fierce. The way the monsters stick is held in
the air looks as if he is about to hit the Saint on the head, so that maybe the victory
of taking the saint is less of a hassle. The demon to its right has wings that expand
all the way out into the peaceful blue sky. The harsh green color of its wings
against the light blue of the background portray the intensity of this particular
monster. The face on this demons face is very unclear, and somewhat distorted.
This is proof that Michelangelo used a lot of his imagination to depict this
painting. Although the face is a bit distorted, you can still with your own
perspective draw out what the demons face should look like. Each monster has a
different compositional shape, which allows for the painting to be more
interesting. Each wing, tail, arm and pair of legs are all different. He uses many of
the same techniques with his lines and cross hatching, yet the demons are all
specifically diverse. As you finish pondering the disturbing and detailed image of
the Saint and the demons, your eyes then begin to rest on the landscape, where they
are better soothed due to the cool colors Michelangelo used. The strokes of his brush
are very smooth and relaxed unlike the demons, which are more sporadic.
Michelangelo created a poetic and symbolic landscape of wealth joined by a distant
river with rolling hills. Although the

Walt Disney Case Analysis
The Walt Disney Company (DIS) is a well known entertainment and media
powerhouse. While its two most iconic theme parks are located within the US, the
company also has parks in France, Japan, and Hong Kong among other places. The
media sector of Disney consists of some of the biggest names in entertainment. Aside
from its namesake Disney outlet, Disney is also the parent company of ESPN, Lucas

Disney seems poised to make investors happy. While cord cutting (moving from
tradition tv to online streaming services) along with a decrease in subscribers to
its ESPN network has hurt the company, recent moves to enter the media streaming
services segment seem promising. In addition, the current government
administration has announced plans to reduce the corporate tax rate from 35% to

overseas profits without being taxed. This of course is good news for Disney and
its international operations. With a market cap of $151.4 billion, Disney is without
a doubt a large cap stock. Its beta of 1.34 indicates it is 34% more volatile than the
market. However, this also points to higher potential returns. While Disney s
dividend yield of 1.59% isn t the most impressive, it signifies that the companies is
reinvesting its earnings into other business ventures which would reward investors
with capital gains. With a PE ratio of 17.34,

The common belief among source critics is that, the Gospel of Mark is the oldest and
Matthew and Luke used his gospel along with an unknown source to write their
Gospels. Evidence supporting this view make the makes four points. First, the
Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of Mark s information and Matthew s
Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second, Mark s words are used
verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence
of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s
uncomfortable passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of
understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was
the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along with
an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and
Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their versions of
the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement
his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan
Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring
all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and
historical facts. Also, if Matthew and Luke were present at the same time that Mark
was present, why would they need to use Mark s account?[7] Some authors believe

Liz was the starting centerfielder, who embraced every opportunity she had to but
herself out there for her team. Liz was a very important piece to the team success
throughout the season. As the team got closer and closer to the state games the
girls worked harder longer days to prepare for the competition ahead. As the
practices got longer she began to feel drained. She had a hard time focusing in
class, always felt tired, and couldn t get rid the every lasting cough. After a week of
being sick she decided it was time to see a doctor before her and her team left for
states. Two days before the team left for Syracuse NY for the state games Liz was
diagnosed with Mono. Liz said I was way too upset to call my coaches at first, but I
knew they had to know as soon as possible. Liz knew her teammates and coaches
would understand and be behind her one hundred percent. She could not help to
feel upset and defeated there was nothing she could do in this situation. The look
of sadness came over her face you could tell how much she wanted to play with her
team. In sports losing a player that contributes so much to the team is hard to
replace. For a young Eden team the loss of a key player two days before leaving is
a situation no one team wants to be in. Liz s team knew the challenge just got
harder. On the day for departure for states Liz knew she still had to go to cheer on
her team. Even if she couldn t play she could still be there to support them in any
way she physically could. The day of the games approached. Liz said It was so
frustrating knowing that I have worked so hard to help my team get this far and now

Al Capone Corruption
With Prohibition present within the United States in the 1920s to the 1930s,
corruption mixed with organized crime is widespread. In the city of Chicago, from
the judges and the mayor downward, crime and corruption flourishes through illegal
distribution of alcohol, or also known as bootlegging. A major player during this
chaotic period, gang boss Al Capone, has the entire city, including law enforcement,
politicians, and business owners, bowing to his will through a fear combined with
violence and extortion. The opening scene demonstrates the ruthlessness of gang
violence in Chicago. Despite the hopelessness, there are some who are aware of
the city s criminal status and want to bring Capone to justice. Eliot Ness, a Treasury
Department agent, is put in charge of putting a stop to Capone s illicit operations.
With the help of a veteran Chicago cop, Jimmy Malone, a Treasury accountant,
Oscar Wallace, and a police academy cadet, George Stone, the four set out on a
crusade to thwart Capone and his organized crimegang. After several successful
interceptive raids, the four men began to develop a reputation within the city. With
the help of Oscar, the group of four realize that their only chance of legally
apprehending Capone is to connect him with a crime of tax evasion. They believe
that they finally have the advantage over the organized crime, but what they soon
come to realize is that many who hold power in the city are corrupt and actively
protect Capone. As conflicts
Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses
1. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses
Nearly everything that you own, whether it is for investment purposes or personal
use, is a capital asset. Capital assets are stocks or bonds held for investment
purposes, land, machinery, etc. When an individual sells a capital asset, the
difference between the asset s purchase price and the amount that it is sold for, is
either a capital gain, which is in the case if the selling price exceeds the purchase
price, or a capital loss, where the purchase price exceeds the selling price.
When the value of the capital asset increases beyond the price that it was initially
purchased for, that is a capital gain. The gain is not realized immediately, because the
holder of the asset has not sold it. Once the individual sells the capital asset, at that
point, the individual must realize the gain and must claim it on income taxes. (http:/
/www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalgain.asp).
Capital gains and losses are categorized into two categories: long term and short
term. If the asset is held for one year or more before the disposition of the asset, the
capital gain or loss is considered a long term. If the asset is held for less than one
year prior to the disposition, the capital gain or loss is considered short term. (http:/
/www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409.html).
2. How Capital Gains are taxed: Holding Period
The taxation of capital gains is treated differently depending on whether your
investment is considered long term or short term. The
How Does Social Media Influence Activism
Social Media s Influence on Activism Starting in mid July a trend began to take
over social media websites such as Facebook and Instagram. All of a sudden one
day I wake up and while viewed my feed in Instagram, I noticed people throwing
buckets full of ice water over their heads. As the days went by, the people were no
longer strangers, but little by little I started noticing co workers and close friends
doing the same. Out of curiosity I began to read the video s descriptions wondering
what this was all about. The descriptions were all full of hash tags that read,
#icebucketchallenge, #alsicebucketchallenge, and #strikeoutals. With more research,
I discovered that the ice bucket challenge as they called it is done to raise money and

The Occupy Wall Street movement allowed Americans to express their frustrations
with banking practices and financial regulations that affect the 99%. This
movement allowed for future banking plans to change, such as the idea to charge
debit card fees last year and student loan relief plans creating re payments easier for
students and forgiveness programs. Having knowledge is very powerful and social
media allows people to become aware and research what is going on in the world
around them. Valenzuela explains that social media can either be used to search
intentionally for certain information or by accidently coming across the information
by being friends with someone who is interested in political actions, this allows for
learning to take place and increases the probability for political action to occur (923).
Even if the results are not the desired ones, the movements and support from others
creates a sense of togetherness, humanity and support. With more awareness people
will continue to get together, join a cause and fight for a common

Investigate how the Concentration of a Sucrose Solution affects the Rate of Osmosis
Introduction:
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high concentration to a low
concentration until they are spread out evenly. An example of diffusion is when an
aerosol is sprayed. The particles spread out from the high concentration at the nozzle
into the rest of the room and that is how the smell moves.
Osmosis is the passage of water molecules from a weaker solution to a stronger
solution through a partially permeable membrane. Osmosis is a type of diffusion
involving water the water molecules move from a weak solution (with a high
concentration of water) into a strong solution (with a low concentration of water).

The reason I predict that three will increase in mass and two decrease is because in
my preliminary experiment this was shown to be the case in these concentrations,
however this could change in my real experiment.
The chips that increase in mass have taken on more water which means that at the
beginning of the experiment the sucrose solution had a higher concentration of water
than the chip and this is likely to apply to the weaker sucrose solutions as they have
a low concentration of sugar and therefore a high percentage of water molecules. The
strong sucrose solutions have a higher percentage of sugar molecules and therefore a
lower percentage of water molecules and if the concentration of water in the potato
chip is higher than in the solution then water will leave the potato chip by osmosis
and therefore the chip will lose mass. The water molecules move into cells that
contain a lower concentration due to the difference in osmotic potential between
cells. The water molecules move through a semi permeable membrane (the cell
membrane) which has big enough holes in it to let through the small water molecules,
but not the bigger sucrose molecules. At a certain concentration of sucrose solution
the concentration of water will be the same in both the chip and the solution which
means there will be no transferral of water between the

Comparing The Lamb and The Tyger by William Blake
Of the many poetic works by William Blake, The Lamb and The Tyger show a large
amount of similarity, as well as differences, both in the way he describes the creatures
and in the style he chose to write them.
The reader will find many similarities in these two poems. Both of them discuss the
creation of the creatures by God. The lines, Little Lamb, who made thee? and What
immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry clearly show that the poet
is referring to a being who is capable of creating life (538). These two poems are
also alike in the aspect that they both talk about the object viewed in the eyes of the
common man. The

The use of questions is also highly utilized in the two written works. This makes the
reader ponder the subject discussed in the poem. The words thy , thou , thine , and
thee present in the poems show that both of them were written in the deferential
language of the Bible.
Although The Lamb and The Tygershare many similarities, they also have some
differences. The poems suggest that the lamb and the tiger were both created by
the same creator. The poems read together also raise some interesting questions.
How could a creator create a soft, gentle, loving creature, and with the same hand
construct a dangerous creature? How could the creator s hand make a creature with
the softest clothing of delight, then grab the fire that is in the tiger s eye? Blake
suggests God seemed pleased with his creation of the lamb and felt a feeling of fear
and regretfullness after creating the tiger. In The Lamb , William Blake compares the
lamb to the Baby Jesus. In contrast, he uses earthly features such as night, fire, skies,
and forests to describe the mighty tiger.
The two poems also show differences in the way they were written.
Instead of using alternating two and six lined stanzas like he used in The
Lamb , Blake uses constant four lined stanzas to provide his image of his tiger. The
titles also reveal different spellings. The lamb is spelled as it was intended, simple,
short, and sweet. In Blake s
Value Chain Analysis Of Perforce Helix
While Git is easily most popular choice for many developers in a range from small
or large companies around the world, there is an alternative enterprise orientation
version control that offers much better capabilities and that is called Perforce
Helix. Because Helix is entirely flexible, it offers its own native distribution version
control features, security restrictions based on the file level of user access, lock
digital assets (or files) that cannot be merged, and supports your favorite tools
(applications and plugins). It is the only enterprise DVCS (Distributed Version
Control) that is straight out of box for any developers to take advantage of all power
of the tool (without consume time to download external applications). That means...

Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory Analysis
Children learn in a dynamic context from the people and places they come in contact
with which profoundly influence their overall development. Bronfenbrenner s
Ecological Systems Theory (ECT) details the ecological context in which children
develop in an aim to assist educators in understanding children s identity. This essay
will discuss Bronfenbrenner s ecological theory and the importance surrounding
children s context and implications for teachers.
EST views the child as developing within a system of relationships, influenced by
their surrounding environment (SITE 5 p.37). EST is composed of four socially
organised subsystems with an emphasis on the bi directional relationship between
people and context (introducing Bronfenbrenner). The bi directional relationship can
refer to the influences a teacher has on a child s beliefs behaviour, as well as the
influences a child has on their teachers. The subsystems are identified as the
microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem (Site 5
Ecological Models 94 p 39 40). The Microsystem is the innermost level of this
system, consisting of interactions in the child s immediate surroundings (Berk ...

Ferre Laevers suggested a child s capacity and drive for learning is dependent on their
emotional security and esteem (p.59 the social child). Laevers is assisting us to
understand the impact a strong relationship has on contributing to the development of
children emotional security. Extending on Bronfenbrenner s theory, Margaret
Spencer has observed risk factors in children s environments that boost their chances
of problematic outcomes. (Site McDevitt p.64) These risk factors include economic
poverty, unstable family conditions and discrimination, (McDevitt p 64).
Unfortunately, such risk factors would be directly experienced by students in their
microsystems unbeknown to

Elder Scrolls
The Elder Scrolls series are some of the best game series of all time in my opinion,
and that includes the soundtracks as well. I have enjoyed the Elder Scrolls for a
very long time, starting with Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall and have continued to play
them all the way through the new series Legends. The games have such a great
way of immersing you into the world that they are trying to portray in any given
time. One of my personal favorite moments was from the ESV whenever you are
finished fighting the first dragon and you absorb its soul in order to gain its power
through your dragon blood. Not only does it make for a very epic moment, the
musical score reflects the gravity of the situation and the importance that your life as
the dragon born will have.
Whenever you pop the game into the console (or open it digitally in my case), you
are greeted to one of my favorite themes from any adventure game. I often found
myself waiting until the song dragonborn had played to press the menu button in
order to continue on. The score gets you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the game you must choose a side, either imperial or stormcloak, and the
imperial music cues are a lot better than the stormcloak ones. As you are
adventuring around the world you will come into contact with many different
characters, animals, areas, and enemies. Often times whenever you enter a new
area or pick a fight you a group of enemies you are greeted with an all too familiar
track that can get very tiresome throughout your playthough. I hoped that the game
composers could have come up with more variation in the fighting instances of the
game. So even though this game has many incredible tracks, it does have its
downfalls, and the area at which it does fall is a very big one, and in this case, I do
not agree with the saying that you cannot get enough of a good
The Effects Of Chemical Treatments On The Life Of The
Timber
For centuries wood has been utilised by many great civilisations. With its natural
form, it is vulnerable to decay and degradation over time. Wood preservation has
become more and more important over the years because of the efforts to grow
timber more rapidly and convert it more economically have likely reduced the
durability of the end product (Ridout, 2000).
When placed in the ground, untreated Radiata Pine sapwood will completely fail
from decay within 2 3 years. This of course is depending on its cross sectional
dimensions. In above ground situations however, the average life varies a lot,
dependant on exposure, but poses a serious issue that many in the past have noted.
On the contrary, the development of chemical treatments greatly increased the life of
the timber. The expected service life of CCA (Copper Chromate Arsenic) treated
sapwood is 20 50 years, depending on end use and exposure conditions.
Manufacturers who supply the timber, guarantee CCA treated wood from insect
attack and fungal decay for 50 years when prepared, treated and used in accordance
with New Zealand standards. (Read, 2003). Other major treatments have been
developed but none have compared to CCA treated timbers worldwide sales and
success.
Pre treatment is not a new concept, and has been practiced for centuries, is used to
prevent rot and insects for sapwood. A majority of pre treatment experimentation was
adapted by problems in the Navy, and various experiments were carried out with the

  • 2. Inguinal Hernia Repair An account of a patient whose care I was involved during my clinical placement (anaesthetic care module) The patient, while undergoing a routine physical examination, presented a hernia complication. It was an incisional hernia with a notable lesion around the groin. The complication was detected from an informal diagnosis by a family member after a manifestation of a bulge around the inguinal region. The patient had a history of constant but intermittent intra abdominal pressure from physical activities. The hernia complication was reported to manifest external bulges and internal pain in the abdomen from time to time. The patient was put under routine observation, and the examination confirmed a history of characteristic swelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was then followed by the use of plugs to contain the internal ring used to contain the protrusion caused by a hernia as devised by surgeon Ambroise Pare. Surgical interventions on hernia repair without prosthetics such as mesh were inferior and reported almost a 100% follow up cases of patients with a hernia recurrence. In additional to this, there were fatalities from the failure of the surgical procedures. As from experience a rapid shift to the use of mesh prosthetics to repair sutures in the implementation of surgical interventions to aid patients came to be (Holzheimer,
  • 3. Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale... Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use scientific research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little interference. If whalingcontinues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean. A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone species in the Southern Ocean (Ainley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is located in waters surrounding Antarctica. (NEED CITE) Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research. Ecosystem To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by Laws. The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean. These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important to note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???) Illegal Whale Hunting Issue The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming to realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program is that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to Peace, most

The bargaining power of buyers is high because retailers such as supermarkets have high bargaining leverage, customers are price sensitive, and their switching costs are low. The threat of substitute products is high. Customers can substitute wine with any other alcoholic as well as a non alcoholic beverage. And the bargaining power of suppliers is high as well. Substitute for high quality grapes is not available. In 1998 RMC had a gross profit margin shortfall of 1.4% from the previous year due to not enough available Chardonnay grapes to meet domestic production target. Since RMC has established its brand image as the top quality premium wines through years of wine development and partnerships with top world brands like Marchesi de Frescobaldi, the Chadwick, and Opus One, it is more attractive for RMC to pursue higher income market segment. The high earnings associated with greater wine consumption. This market segment is less sensitive to price changes, high end wines demands usually exceed supply which creates an opportunity for this segment, and retailers have lass of bargaining power since producers can sell high quality wines through restaurants, hotels, and wine shops. RMC s Strategy Lower priced market segments like jug wine accounted for 44% of the table wine, while it consisted only 17% of the total revenue in 1999. Popular
  • 5. Solution Of Water Pollution Introduction People usually don t check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust that just because it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of pollutants, but that is not always the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very common and dangerous because the bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and bacterias that lead to the health problems. What is water pollution? Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water pollution is caused by pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt Environmental Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical, or biological agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the organisms that depend on water. These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs, rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water pollution comes from industrialization and rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every aspect of life from humans, plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution affects animal life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can become sick and die off and can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the humans that eat them. That contamination now is spread to the human population which negatively affects our communities and

Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal, thermal solar and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunamiof 2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods, earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in alignment with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of disaster management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions, impeding disasters due to climate change need to be anticipated. • 8. Competitive Behaviors And Practices, By Cathy Davidson,... Ever since a young age, the youth of the United States are taught that they must strive to be the best they can be. This would ultimately result in one possessing a competitive edge, once one enters the selection process of joining one of many higher institutions of education or the job market. In the essays Project Classroom Makeover, Biographies of Hegemony, and Rent Seeking and the Making of an Unequal Society, respectfully by, Cathy Davidson, Karen Ho, and Joseph Stiglitz, the topic of competitive behaviors and practices is widely addressed and heavily criticized. Educationis competitive, yet bias. Institutions of higher educationvalue students based irrelevant factors, something which is unacceptable in the modern, digital age. This heavily impacts the selection process of candidates, leading the system to favor unqualified individuals. Prevalent business superpowers, many residing in Wall Street, pick low hanging fruit. In other words, these firms take very minimal effort to choose candidates in positions that are extremely competitive and valuable. They recruit individuals who graduate from top schools and have no other realistic edge for the company, aside from namesake. Woven into these practices, many examples of uncompetitive behavior arise as well from other factors of the system. In this essay, I argue that competitive and uncompetitive behaviors have molded modern America, with massive organizations and authorities playing into these behaviors from all
  • 9. Relationship Between Inequality And Economic Growth Introduction Since the establishment of the People s Republic of China in 1949 with its government socialist ideology, planned economy during the economic reforms, which started in 1978 and are still going on until nowadays, China has had continued presence of inequality. In my work I overview the evolution of inequality that could be divided into two historical periods: pre reform period (1949 1978) and the reform period (1978 onwards). I also examine the correlation between inequality and economic growth in China. Although, with the sustained economic development and increase of living standards for the last three decades, China s uneven regional development has been a serious phenomenon. During the time of triple transition that includes decentralization, modernization and globalization the nature of regional development and its inequality has been changed fundamentally. Inequality has become the engine of progress; I argue that nowadays inequality in China is unavoidable for future development. Pre reform period Geographically China is divided into three parts: western, central and eastern (coastal) regions. Based on the historical development, natural resources, and climate they have their own distinctions. The new government considered development imbalance as an important issue because of three significant factors. First, the interior labor market was far away from coastal area. The second factor is the raw materials and energy supply were far away from coastal

Forrest and Cao (2013) continue to say that there have been many paradigm shifts throughout history. The most recent of which is three dimensional (3D) printing. Campbell, Williams, Ivanova, and Garrett (2011) predict that 3D printing could up end the last two centuries of approaches to design and manufacturing . It is essential for companies to stay ahead competition during this technology shift, in order to stay successful in the changing manufacturing paradigm, however other aspects of the life course, such as medical fields, homemaking and consumerists will also be affected. • 12. Hashimoto s Thyroid Disease Immune system attacking the thyroid The immune system is consisted of cells and tissues throughout the whole body. They work together to defend your body from any types of invasion and infections. Problems with the immune system can cause the immune system to mistaken the healthy body cells as invaders and will repeatedly attack the cells; this is known as an autoimmune disease. An example of this disease is the Hashimoto s thyroiditis, where the immune systems mistakenly recognizes the thyroid cells as invaders and attack the thyroid. Immune System There are two parts in the immune system that help the body from being invaded or infected: innate immunity and the adaptive immunity. The innate immunity is the initial response to invaders and consists of defense mechanism: surface barriers and the internal defense. The first defense mechanism in the innate immunity is the body surface barriers, such as the skin and the mucous membrane. The surface barriers serve as mechanical, physical and chemical barriers. Mechanical barriers are consisted of your mucosa lining in the stomach. • 14. A Social Class System There is no way to deny that a social class system exists that divides people by general popularity. Once children begin school, they begin to separate into these divisions. The top of the social ladder, often considered to be people who are cool, are stereotyped to be beautiful and happy. Although in some cases this may be true, it is not always that way. Misconceptions about popularity lead to a greater divide amongst the social classes, and cause those in the lower social levels to be considered as or to feel as if they are inferior. Articles like one written by Christian McBride, entitled Be Cool, published in This I Believe II, continue to develop the false ideology that one must be popular in order to live a full, happy life. McBride believes that, Being cool is not what you say or do, but how you say or do it, (McBride 160) and due to the fact that, ... • 19. Middle Ages Vs Renaissance The trademark trait of humanity is curiosity: it is what drives us as a race of individuals to create and innovate, to question and conclude. The Ancient Greeks developed as a culture due to the curiosity of many great thinkers, making strides in the fields of philosophy and math and raising a civilization with lasting influence on every empire to come. Sculptors studied the human form and philosophers attempted to understand man s place in the universe. The Middle Ages, however, lacked this metaphysical approach to life: people were not comfortable questioning their surroundings and therefore made little room for cultural innovation. The Renaissance as we know it saw a revival of the classical thought of the ancient Greeks and Romans, paving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Middle Ages, intellectuals had access to a very limited selection of classical works. It wasn t until the 12th Century that important academic texts began to be translated: Byzantine and Spanish Islamic scholars made it possible for the works of Aristotle on logic, the writings of Euclid and Ptolemy, the basic works of Greek physicians and Arab mathematicians, and the larger texts of Roman law to circulate among Western scholars (Kagan, 271). Even after more classical knowledge was finally introduced, the established education system left little room for further intellectual advancement. During the High Middle Ages, universities taught subjects by reciting a summa, which was a crude summary of all that was supposedly known about a certain subject. Summas were taught through recitation and memorization, leaving little room for independent thought. The assumption was that truth already existed; it was not something that one had to go out and find. It was there, requiring only to be properly organized, elucidated, and defended. Such conviction made logic and dialectic the focus of education (Kagan, 274). If truth already existed, then there was no need to delve deeper into any subject. This creative stagnation brought on by summas was the chief flaw in Medieval education. The Renaissance saw the rise in a type of education called Humanism, or studia humanitatis. Humanism was derived from the studies of Greek and Roman thinkers, and was an immense undertaking to understand, translate, publish, and teach the texts of the past as a means of understanding and transforming their own present (Brotton, 39). Young intellectuals used studia humanitatis to gain both worldly success and a better understanding of the world around them. This also led to the rise in a liberal arts mentality. Conversely, the false identities in which these characters adopt, help readers learn about social hierarchy. Specifically, characters like Archer and Aimwell from George Farquhars The Beaux Stratagem and Kate Hardcastle from Oliver Goldsmith s She Stoops to Conquer illustrate that when their personalities change, that the social situation changes. Secondly, there is Dorinda, who is an heiress, and is economically objectified by Aimewell who alters his identity to seduce women, like Dorinda. Dorinda s situation signifies inequality in women because even though Dorinda knows that Aimwell lied to her, she sacrifices her power and become the property of Aimwell via marriage all for social status. This represents the weakness that women from the upper class exhibited. Both examples are important is studying literature from the Restoration period because both examples provide clues to the inequalities and exploitations that women went
  • 21. Literary Devices In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms is a great adventure of ones life. A great love story of a man, Frederic Henry, and a woman, Catherine Barkley, that are in a time of war. Hemingway wanted to connect with his readers and make an amazing story, which he did. Hemingway has a unique way of using words. He uses repetition quite a bit in the story with things like the continuing use of to morrow and on page six talks about the oak trees and the oak forests. The way Hemingway connects to his readers so well is the use of adjectives, also how he sets up his sentences. He uses adjectives that are very common they aren t hard to figure out what they mean. For example, within the first two chapters of the book he explains the summer nights as cool and the whether very nice. They are words that any teenager could read and understand with flying colors. He also sets up his sentences very short and to the point, it s more that he s trying to make us connect to Henry so that we are more involved into Henry. We understand him as a person. We image him doing what he is doing; it s the use of more pronouns so we aren t combining the sentences, he stops just to use another I or me. There were many of wonderful quotes in A Farewell To Arms . The first quote I find ironic, I knew I did not love Catherine Barkley nor had any idea of loving her (Hemingway 26). One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though we live happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any time with unpredictable outcome. A second example based on this observation can be the terror attack that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred in a London train underground that injured 30 passengers on board. And furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In addition to the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? When it s exclusive? , as if he were trying to say that it would have to take a miracle for the world to resolve from this. Many people have experienced moments when others are made fun of or times when people fight for various reasons such as an argument.

Our minds tell us and history confirms that the great threat to freedom is the concentration of power. Government is necessary to preserve our freedom, it is an instrument through which we can exercise our freedom; yet by concentrating power and political hands, it is also a threat to freedom. Friedman s Capitalism and Freedom takes us into the mind of an economic genius and shows us his beliefs in a free market and the threat it presents to a dictatorship. Friedman, clearly a supporter of the free market, gives examples to show how a free market can aid a society in striving for success, becoming more dominant, and becoming more powerful. Though, at times he does show how a free market has disadvantages and he makes us aware as to how it can aid people in gaining individualism, knowledge, and overall improving a society. A free market is one that the price of a good or service is determined by supply and demand, in theory, rather than by government regulation. Milton s thoughts and theory is that through a robust free market with political freedom, economic freedom will follow. Showing how economic freedom is a crucial toward the success of political freedom, Friedman s theory of a free market and the Do Nothing Principle are major themes throughout his book. A dictatorship is a form of government ruled by a single party or a single party of dictators. In this form of

Sill, Oklahoma as a cannon crewmember. His initial active duty enlistment was for three years but due to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the Soldier fell under Operation Stop Loss, delaying his initial expiration term of service (ETS) date by six months. During his enlistment with the U.S. Army, he saw a couple of major changes within the Modified Table of Organization and Equipment (MTOE). Each of these changes resulted in his current unit changing in strength and equipment. Although at the time, this young Soldier did not completely understand the complexity of the changes, he did understand how the changes affected how his section completed their daily duties and his direct chain of command. For example, the U.S. Army s Field Artillery units changed from a three by six gun concept to three by eight units. With this change, artillery firing batteries acquired additional Soldiers and equipment. The U.S. Army did not seem to have any issues filling vacant positions with enlisted Soldiers, Non commissioned Officers (NCOs), or Officers. This MTOE change caused growth, which allowed promotions through Permanent Change of Station (PCS) thus allowing more junior enlisted positions to become available. Recruiters then fill the junior enlisted positions without much

I am Hispanic, so we come from a very family oriented culture, thus making family the utmost significant value. We have a great sense of unity that goes beyond the immediate family (parents and siblings) and includes the extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) and close friends. Having a strong work ethic is a value I have inherited from my parents. From an early age, my parents have told me, You never get anywhere unless you work hard for it . That kind of mentality has stayed with me ever since. They believe if you don t work hard at something then you truly don t appreciate it. I have worked hard all my life to get to where I am now and I continue to work to get to where I want to be. Integrity and respect are values I keep near and dear to me. I believe that we should always do things with integrity. I believe one must have respect for others and themselves. These values were formed and influenced mainly by my family, ethnicity, culture and environment I was raised in. This set of values have influenced me and shaped the person I am today. Growing up, I was always surrounded with my family whether it was my immediate family or my extended one. My grandparents were like second parents to me and my cousins were my best friends. Sedimentary processes and sea level fluctuations could have taken a huge turn, due to the fact that an unexpected large extraterrestrial body crashed into the Yucatan Peninsula. And of course, his older brothers, especially Fuscus, grew more and more envious of him until one day, they succumbed to the envy as they could take it no more. You see, all the brothers loved an enchanting princess who ruled over their small plot of land. Day after day, and night after night, they cared only about the princess and none other. They saw their youngest brother as a vexing, immediate hindrance to their already slim chances of impressing the so desired princess as they feared that if the princess met Lumio, the couple would forever be knit, and so, the story continues. • 40. Walt Disney Case Analysis The Walt Disney Company (DIS) is a well known entertainment and media powerhouse. While its two most iconic theme parks are located within the US, the company also has parks in France, Japan, and Hong Kong among other places. The media sector of Disney consists of some of the biggest names in entertainment. Aside from its namesake Disney outlet, Disney is also the parent company of ESPN, Lucas Films Ltd., ABC Network, and Marvel Studios. From a broader perspective, Disney seems poised to make investors happy. While cord cutting (moving from tradition tv to online streaming services) along with a decrease in subscribers to its ESPN network has hurt the company, recent moves to enter the media streaming services segment seem promising. In addition, the current government administration has announced plans to reduce the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%. The new administration has also proposed a way for companies to bring in overseas profits without being taxed. This of course is good news for Disney and its international operations. With a market cap of $151.4 billion, Disney is without a doubt a large cap stock. Its beta of 1.34 indicates it is 34% more volatile than the market. However, this also points to higher potential returns. While Disney s dividend yield of 1.59% isn t the most impressive, it signifies that the companies is reinvesting its earnings into other business ventures which would reward investors with capital gains. With a PE ratio of 17.34,

Evidence supporting this view make the makes four points. First, the Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of Mark s information and Matthew s Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second, Mark s words are used verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s uncomfortable passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along with an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their versions of the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and historical facts. Also, if Matthew and Luke were present at the same time that Mark was present, why would they need to use Mark s account?[7] Some authors believe that

In the city of Chicago, from the judges and the mayor downward, crime and corruption flourishes through illegal distribution of alcohol, or also known as bootlegging. A major player during this chaotic period, gang boss Al Capone, has the entire city, including law enforcement, politicians, and business owners, bowing to his will through a fear combined with violence and extortion. The opening scene demonstrates the ruthlessness of gang violence in Chicago. Despite the hopelessness, there are some who are aware of the city s criminal status and want to bring Capone to justice. Eliot Ness, a Treasury Department agent, is put in charge of putting a stop to Capone s illicit operations. With the help of a veteran Chicago cop, Jimmy Malone, a Treasury accountant, Oscar Wallace, and a police academy cadet, George Stone, the four set out on a crusade to thwart Capone and his organized crimegang. After several successful interceptive raids, the four men began to develop a reputation within the city. With the help of Oscar, the group of four realize that their only chance of legally apprehending Capone is to connect him with a crime of tax evasion. They believe that they finally have the advantage over the organized crime, but what they soon come to realize is that many who hold power in the city are corrupt and actively protect Capone. • 44. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses 1. Introduction to Capital Gains and Losses Nearly everything that you own, whether it is for investment purposes or personal use, is a capital asset. Capital assets are stocks or bonds held for investment purposes, land, machinery, etc. When an individual sells a capital asset, the difference between the asset s purchase price and the amount that it is sold for, is either a capital gain, which is in the case if the selling price exceeds the purchase price, or a capital loss, where the purchase price exceeds the selling price. When the value of the capital asset increases beyond the price that it was initially purchased for, that is a capital gain. The gain is not realized immediately, because the holder of the asset has not sold it. Once the individual sells the capital asset, at that point, the individual must realize the gain and must claim it on income taxes. (http:/ /www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalgain.asp). Capital gains and losses are categorized into two categories: long term and short term. If the asset is held for one year or more before the disposition of the asset, the capital gain or loss is considered a long term. If the asset is held for less than one year prior to the disposition, the capital gain or loss is considered short term. (http:/ /www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409.html). 2. How Capital Gains are taxed: Holding Period The taxation of capital gains is treated differently depending on whether your investment is considered long term or short term. The

Investigate how the Concentration of a Sucrose Solution affects the Rate of Osmosis Introduction: Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration until they are spread out evenly. An example of diffusion is when an aerosol is sprayed. The particles spread out from the high concentration at the nozzle into the rest of the room and that is how the smell moves. Osmosis is the passage of water molecules from a weaker solution to a stronger solution through a partially permeable membrane. Osmosis is a type of diffusion involving water the water molecules move from a weak solution (with a high concentration of water) into a strong solution (with a low concentration of water). The cell membrane in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I predict that three will increase in mass and two decrease is because in my preliminary experiment this was shown to be the case in these concentrations, however this could change in my real experiment. The chips that increase in mass have taken on more water which means that at the beginning of the experiment the sucrose solution had a higher concentration of water than the chip and this is likely to apply to the weaker sucrose solutions as they have a low concentration of sugar and therefore a high percentage of water molecules. The strong sucrose solutions have a higher percentage of sugar molecules and therefore a lower percentage of water molecules and if the concentration of water in the potato chip is higher than in the solution then water will leave the potato chip by osmosis and therefore the chip will lose mass. The water molecules move into cells that contain a lower concentration due to the difference in osmotic potential between cells. The water molecules move through a semi permeable membrane (the cell membrane) which has big enough holes in it to let through the small water molecules, but not the bigger sucrose molecules. At a certain concentration of sucrose solution the concentration of water will be the same in both the chip and the solution which means there will be no transferral of water between the two

The reader will find many similarities in these two poems. Both of them discuss the creation of the creatures by God. The lines, Little Lamb, who made thee? and What immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry clearly show that the poet is referring to a being who is capable of creating life (538). The use of questions is also highly utilized in the two written works. This makes the reader ponder the subject discussed in the poem. The words thy , thou , thine , and thee present in the poems show that both of them were written in the deferential language of the Bible. Although The Lamb and The Tygershare many similarities, they also have some differences. The poems suggest that the lamb and the tiger were both created by the same creator. The poems read together also raise some interesting questions. How could a creator create a soft, gentle, loving creature, and with the same hand construct a dangerous creature? How could the creator s hand make a creature with the softest clothing of delight, then grab the fire that is in the tiger s eye? Blake suggests God seemed pleased with his creation of the lamb and felt a feeling of fear and regretfullness after creating the tiger. In The Lamb , William Blake compares the lamb to the Baby Jesus. In contrast, he uses earthly features such as night, fire, skies, and forests to describe the mighty tiger. The two poems also show differences in the way they were written. Instead of using alternating two and six lined stanzas like he used in The Lamb , Blake uses constant four lined stanzas to provide his image of his tiger. The titles also reveal different spellings. The lamb is spelled as it was intended, simple, short, and sweet. In Blake s

Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory Analysis Children learn in a dynamic context from the people and places they come in contact with which profoundly influence their overall development. Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory (ECT) details the ecological context in which children develop in an aim to assist educators in understanding children s identity. This essay will discuss Bronfenbrenner s ecological theory and the importance surrounding children s context and implications for teachers. EST views the child as developing within a system of relationships, influenced by their surrounding environment (SITE 5 p.37). EST is composed of four socially organised subsystems with an emphasis on the bi directional relationship between people and context (introducing Bronfenbrenner). The bi directional relationship can refer to the influences a teacher has on a child s beliefs behaviour, as well as the influences a child has on their teachers. The subsystems are identified as the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem (Site 5 Ecological Models 94 p 39 40). • 53. The Effects Of Chemical Treatments On The Life Of The Timber For centuries wood has been utilised by many great civilisations. With its natural form, it is vulnerable to decay and degradation over time. Wood preservation has become more and more important over the years because of the efforts to grow timber more rapidly and convert it more economically have likely reduced the durability of the end product (Ridout, 2000). When placed in the ground, untreated Radiata Pine sapwood will completely fail from decay within 2 3 years. This of course is depending on its cross sectional dimensions. In above ground situations however, the average life varies a lot, dependant on exposure, but poses a serious issue that many in the past have noted. On the contrary, the development of chemical treatments greatly increased the life of the timber. The expected service life of CCA (Copper Chromate Arsenic) treated sapwood is 20 50 years, depending on end use and exposure conditions. Manufacturers who supply the timber, guarantee CCA treated wood from insect attack and fungal decay for 50 years when prepared, treated and used in accordance with New Zealand standards. (Read, 2003). Other major treatments have been developed but none have compared to CCA treated timbers worldwide sales and success. Pre treatment is not a new concept, and has been practiced for centuries, is used to prevent rot and insects for sapwood. A majority of pre treatment experimentation was adapted by problems in the Navy, and various experiments were carried out with the likes
