African Americans And African American History
As African Americans we need to know the history of our ancestors in order to make the next
generation better. African Americans need to know the struggles and hardships that our ancestors had
to go through that pave the way for my generation and the generations after me. It is important to
know how our ancestors had to endure slavery. If the older generation does not continue to pay
homage to the history of our ancestors, the younger generation will lose sight of what our ancestors
have been through (Roberts, 2011). The younger generation is not interested in African American
History. It is about what someone can do for them. The younger generation wants everything handed
to them not to work for it because the younger generation thinks the world owe them something. The
younger generation does not have respect for their elders now. As African Americans we should not
forget the segregation and the hanging and deaths of African Americans because of the color of their
skin. It is also important because racism still exist today (Roberts, 2011). There are still racist white
people that do not want the world to change (Roberts, 2011). There are some white people that want to
go back to slavery because white people think African Americans are not worthy (Roberts, 2011).
White people do not want African Americans to know about their history because there were
intelligent African Americans that were inventors. Some examples of African American inventors are:

Nietzsche s God Is Dead
God is dead is a widely quoted statement by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It first appears
in Nietzsche s 1882 collection The Gay Science also translated as The science of joy German: Die
fröhliche Wissenschaft), in sections 108, 125, and for a third time in section 343 . It is also found in
Nietzsche s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is most responsible for popularizing the
phrase. The idea is stated in The Madman as follows:
Although the statement and its meaning is attributed to Nietzsche it is important to note that this was
not a unique position as Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel pondered the death of God, first in his
Phenomenology of Spirit where he considers the death of God to not seen as anything but an easily
recognized part of the usual Christian cycle of redemption . Later on Hegel ... Show more content on

In the madman s passage, the man is described as running through a marketplace shouting, I seek
God! I seek God! He arouses some amusement; no one takes him seriously. Maybe he took an ocean
voyage? Lost his way like a little child? Maybe he s afraid of us and is hiding? much laughter.
Frustrated, the madman smashes his lantern on the ground, crying out that God is dead, and we have
killed him, you and I! But I have come too soon, he immediately realizes, as his detractors of a minute
before stare in astonishment: people cannot yet see that they have killed God. He goes on to say:
Earlier in the book, Nietzsche wrote God is Dead; but given the way of men, there may still be caves
for thousands of years in which his shadow will be shown. And we we still have to vanquish his
shadow, too. The protagonist in Thus Spoke Zarathustra also speaks the words, commenting to himself

Reinvent The Movie Theatre Analysis
The article Reinvent the Movie Theatre written by Hunter Walk proposes to fans of movies being
traditionally watched that the limited movements spectators can act out inside a movie theatre is the
reason the capacity of audiences who come to watch the films have not increased. Walk investigates
deep into a spectator s mindset in regards to how they may want to behave in a movie theatre if that
particular individual is similar to him who wants their media experience plugged in (Walk) during this
kind of entertainment. He also creates a discussion around the visual appeal of putting more lighting
and electricity outlet inside the movie theatre, as well as mentioning about certain behaviours
discouraged in such a public area that should instead be acceptable. Overall, Walk s desire to reformat
the traditional expectations when watching a movie by involving the use of electronic devices,
redecorating the place of theatre itself and allowing behaviours contradictory to people s beliefs
during an airing movie will ultimately improve the system of theatre to gain more attendees for the
shows. A few ideas he presents are for audiences to be able to look up the cast list online [with their

Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride
Taylor Lane Colyer
Dr. Cossar
Final Paper
April 11, 2017
Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride
Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some
form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told.
Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are
watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The
Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the
film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this
particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These different
genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre
classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they
watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman:
1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this
film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your
basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse
crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not
everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several
older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as
much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre
determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the
audience to question themselves and form hypotheses.
Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in.
Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen (and

I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom Analysis
That said, we should not forget that leadership and empowerment often strongly depend on
mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered a
sense of unity and communality. As the media were very selective when it came to the coverage of
local struggles, the attention that leaders like Martin Luther King and others received was important to
force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level. Therefore, Payne s
critique entails different layers. First, it is clearly a criticism of a scholarship that selectively focuses
on famous leaders and the most dramatic events. As such, it is a critique of a historical narrative that
provides only a glimpse of what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance.
There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how far
this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity and the
solidarity among the organizers and the local population and fails to mention the tensions among
direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united under what
they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress theoretical and
practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of communality and
solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over again, as soon as the
external threat either diminishes or proves resistant to change, movements tend to disunite. This is
what Baker and other activists wanted to prevent by modeling their training around local long term
strategies and individual

Emile Durkheim s Theories on Suicide Essay
Emile Durkheim s Theories on Suicide
I chose to write about Durkheim s theories on suicide. Although I don t completely agree with all of
them, I will discuss what my text says they are and what I perceive them to be.
Most of Durkheim s work on suicide was published in his third book, Suicide. It was a very important
book because it was a serious effort to establish empiricism in sociology. This empiricism would
provide a sociological perspective on a phenomenon that was previously psychological and
individualistic.
He proposed three major forms of suicide, some with subdivisions. These three forms of suicide were
egoistic, altruistic, and anomic. With egoistic suicide, Durkheim proposes that a person will commit
suicide if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next, altruistic suicide, is the complete opposite of egoistic suicide. A person who commits
altruistic suicide thinks that the larger group is more important than he is. All things of the larger
group take precedent over the individual which leads to suicide. We discussed honorable suicide under
this category and one thing still bothers me from that discussion. Our humble narrator gave the
example of a soldier jumping on a grenade as a form of honorable suicide. I disagree with this
statement. I would argue that this is not a form of suicide but a form of training. This man or woman is
trained to give his life for his country. It isn t logical to think that the person jumping on the grenade
thinks that he is committing suicide. Aside from that aspect, I feel that I understand this form of
suicide the most. I think that being overlooked by the dominant group can lead to a person taking their
own life. There are numerous times where we have seen on the news about the kid no one paid
attention to taking his or her own life.
Next, there is anomic suicide. This idea was the hardest for me to understand because it seems to go
against logic at first. My interpretation of anomic is that a person has to have a set amount or number
of norms or laws imposed on them. There has to be an equal amount to keep the person balanced. To

The Theory Of Macroeconomic Analysis Deals With Economic...
The theory of macroeconomic analysis deals with economic aggregates. This theory is very critical
and important in decision making by planning agents in the economy (Mankiw, 2010).
Macroeconomics analysis is of great and paramount importance to the three entities that comprise of
any economy who are the households, firms and the government institution. The households in the
economy are majorly interested in the macroeconomic analysis to determine and know how a slight
change in general price level is likely to affect their welfare through what they can be able to purchase
with the same level of nominal income. It is also very crucial to the households in explaining how
changes in the nominal interest rates is likely to influence the cost of borrowing money by the
households for investment purpose. Macroeconomics analysis looks at the aggregate effect of those
changes putting into consideration all the households in the economy in order to come up with just one
decision measure that is characteristic of the overall economy (Samuelson, 2008). The firms in the
economy consult macroeconomic analysis when they want to establish the effect of increased
production in the market. They would like to be certain about whether such a move would be welcome
by the consumers in the market and whether the consumers would have enough money to purchase the
products or whether the aggregate national demand for the product is commensurate to the aggregate
level of production for the

Intrusion Detection System ( Ids )
Abstract Increasing attacks and intrusion of the Internet and computer systems necessitate the need for
Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to prevent attacks. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to support
IDS. Fitness function and GA operators crossover, mutation, and population representation play an
important role in improving the performance of an IDS: high detection rate, and low false positive
rate. This paper suggests a Fitness Function using Reward Penalty technique that rewards the good
chromosome and penalizes the bad chromosome, for improved performance. We suggest that the GA
parameters be optimized for better IDS performance.
Keywords Intrusion detection; genetic algorithm; fitness function; detection rate; false positive rate.
I. INTRODUCTION
Intrusion can be defined as the actions that attempt to compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or
availability of a computer resource [1]. Intrusion Detection System is a software or device to discover
the intrusion activity. Based on detection process, IDS can be classified into two groups: Anomaly
detection, and misuse/signature detection. Anomaly detection looks for rare or unusual network
activities, while misuse/signature detection uses past well known attack patterns signature to identify
illegal activities. This paper deals with only misuse/signature detection in computer networks.
Network attack types can be categorized into the following groups:
Denial of Service Attack (DoS): A DoS attack makes the computer

infrastructure for more coal fired energy generation. This means we ll be co accountable for more

The topic of climate change is an on going debate between organisations as it is the greatest long term
challenge facing the international community (Exhibit 11). And with a contribution of 25.9% of CO2
emissions, which is the highest amongst all sectors (Exhibit 11), it collides with Generation s
philosophy of maintaining investments within solely environmentally friendly companies.
However, although Generation s research includes climate change as major theme, other themes such
as poverty/real needs and human capital are also imperative issues when looking at investment
possibilities, and as coal is an inevitable power source for the country , an ethically green company
such as Generation could support future investments in building cleaner, more sustainable coal plants.
Additionally, ABB India offers turnkey systems and services for transmission and distributions for
power grid and power plants (Exhibit 8). These are implemented by the company to focus on energy
efficiency and improve performance showing a clear positive approach in enabling a less wasteful grid
system. As India is heavily dependent on coal, with forecasts portraying that is it the largest CO2
emitting country after the U.S and China, dedication to reduce CO2 levels is likely to be a slow
process. Also as increased international competition from other multinational companies is

Recycling Is A Waste Of Money And Time
Abstract
In the not too distant future, recycling will no longer be speculated and studied. It will simply be a fact
of everyday life. In the last 20 years, recycling rates in the United States have risen from 13 percent to
almost 24 percent. More than ever before, recycled waste is being kept out of our county dumps and
incinerators and is being put to many different uses, creating new jobs and companies. Those who don
t agree that recycling has any benefit say that recycling costs more than dumping, falsely claiming that
recycling is a complete waste of money and time. However, recycling today is often less expensive
than dumping or burning, and is quickly becoming the preferred alternative. In this essay, I want to
show how recycling isn t just a business or environmental issue, it is something much larger that we
must embrace and make a priority in our every day living. As stewards of this planet, we are obligated
to make everyone cognizant of how important recycling is to our existence, and pass what we have
learned on to future generations. If we can only begin to think differently about how we handle our
every day waste, we can help ensure a clean environment well into the future.
What is recycling? Recycling is returning materials to their raw material components and using them
again to supplement or replace new materials in the manufacture of new products. Recycling involves
several steps; separating recyclable materials from waste, collecting

Essay about Managed Care
Managed Care
There are so many problems with our society s health care. Everyone wants to find a
solution, but no one has been able to come up with one yet. Many different things have been
tried, but none have put a cease to the exorbitant costs, which most believe to be the main
problem. Out of everything tried, the most recent and popular system is known as managed care.
Managed care is the most common form of health insurance in the United States, and provides
more a cost efficient coverage than paying a fee for service charge. However, it is also a very
complicated system. Over the next few pages I am going to try and go over the main parts of the
managed care structure. In the end, I am going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the goals have not yet been met, managed care has
continued to grow throughout the past four decades. At the end of 1996, there were over 600
HMO s in operation, enrolling around 65 million members, which is about 1/4 of the population
(Tufts 1998).
Before I get into the different types of managed care organizations, I am going to go over
some cost control methods in managed care. Managed care organizations are different methods
used to control utilization of services. Utilization management requires three things. First, you
have to have an expert evaluation of which services are medically necessary in a given case. This
ensures that unnecessary services are kept to a minimum. Secondly it requires a determination of
how those services can be provided most inexpensively, while maintaining a high level of
quality of care. It also requires a review of the process of care and changes in the patients
condition to revise the course of medical treatment if necessary. The methods that are most
commonly used for utilization monitoring and control are choice restriction, gatekeeping, case
management, utilization reviews, and practice profiling.
The first method I am going to talk about is choice restriction. Traditional health
insurance gave the insured open access to any provider. This led to an over use of services. Most
of the managed care plans have some sort of

How Is The Black Cat Insane
The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe is a horror story of an insane man telling us of his crimes. The
narrator was just a regular man with a drinking problem until one day when he came home and
gouged out his cat s eye. But his hostility only got worse, to the point where he hung the cat in the
back yard. His actions only further prove that he wasn t in his right mind when he committed these
crimes.
Some people may think he was sane because he had the conscience to think it was wrong when he cut
out the cat s eye. He had restraint while abusing the cat, because he knew what he was doing and didn
t want to lose control. For Pluto, however, I still retained sufficient regard to restrain me from
maltreating him, as I made no scruple of maltreating

Technology And The Loss Of Socially Dependence On Technology
Technology has rapidly progressed and has become a big part of everyday life. From cell phones to
self driving cars, technology is relied on every day, of every minute. People are starting to depend on
technology so much that soon, they will not be able to do anything themselves. Some may say that
technology will make life more easier and efficient, but what they may not know is that when people
make life too efficient, it can just as easily malfunction and have loopholes. (Add something to
transition) Texting instead of talking. Selfies instead of socializing. Screens instead of success. People
are too reliant on technology and they do not live in the moment, they do not interact with people face
to face, and technology can cause loss of basic motor skills. People have become overly dependent on
technology by not being able to live in the moment anymore. For instance, people who are watching a
performance are most likely to be on their phones posting pictures about it on social media. As stated
by Huffington Post, According to T Mobile, 47 percent of any guided audience text others during a
show, while 32 percent engage in social media during a show (Silva 2014). To advance further, a large
phone network is saying that a percentage of an audience are not paying attention to the performance
and instead are busy on their devices. Instead of enjoying the show they are missing a once in a
lifetime experience. According to CNN, The report reveals a dramatic one hour

The Controversy Of Animal Experimentation
Animal testing is also known as animal experimentation is the act of testing drugs, chemicals,
cosmetics and acid on animals such as; dogs, cats, rats, mice, ferrets, hamsters and monkeys for many
purposes. Today I will be focusing on cosmetics. Cosmetic companies create makeup, lipstick,
foundation, blush, highlighters etc. All of these products are tested on animals before use on humans
and I believe that this is wrong and should be banned in all countries.
Firstly, animals have been tested on for the past decades. According to P.E.T.A (peta.org 2015
statistics) article it is stated that each year over 100 million animals such as; dogs, cats, rats, mice,
ferrets, hamsters and monkeys are killed in U.S Laboratories for many reasons including ... Show

A human body and an animal body are not the same. According to the HSI (Humane Society
International), different species react differently to different chemicals and powders used in cosmetics
and what an animal might experience or react to is not the same as a human. This proves that animal
testing is unreliable and wasteful. Animal testing is also very expensive. The US National Institute of
Health spends about $14 billion out of its $31 billion budget on animal testing and research proving to
be very costly and inefficient for research or production in other areas.
Many people might say that animal testing has proven results for the safety of beauty products and
cosmetics. Although, in some cases it is helpful, why would you want to use such an old outdated
method of research in 2017 many more methods have opened up due to advanced technology. Animal
testing dates back to the 1900 s and yet in the 21st century companies are still doing this even though
it is more costly than alternative methods.
In conclusion, animal testing is unreliable, expensive and inhumane to our beloved animals around the
world. I believe that governments should fully ban animal testing. Earth was created for all us, not

L-Asparagine Lab Report
The concentrations of L arginine and L asparagine were measured in the range 0.110 mM. Data was
collected from the fluorescence intensity of the Arg and Asn sensing membranes at the two emission
wavelengths (λem = 565 and 625 nm) at an excitation wavelength of 460 nm (λex = 460 nm). The
fluorescence spectra for detecting L Arg and L Asn were measured using a multifunctional
fluorescence microtiter plate reader (Saphire2, Tecan GmbH, Wien, Austria).
The Arg sensing membranes immobilized with various amounts of arginase and 20 U of urease were
used for the measurements of different L Arg concentrations. The arginase amount for immobilization
was optimized with 10 U, 20 U, 30 U, 35 U, and 40 U of arginase and with a fixed amount (20 U) of

the other hand felt that they were underrepresented. They were hoping for more equality in size

Benzoin Synthesis Lab Report
This experiment will involve the conversion of Benzoin into Benzil through oxidation using nitric
acid. Benzoin was synthesized in a previous experiment using two Benzaldehyde molecules and
thiamine hydrochloride as a catalyst. The reaction is known as a Benzoin condensation reaction. This
experiment utilized a wide a variety of techniques including reflux; filtering using a Buchner funnel; a
melting point analysis; and an IR spectroscopy. The total yield for Benzoin was 3.506 grams which
resulted in a percentage yield of 74.74%. Melting point analysis showed that the literature melting
point is 134 135 ᵒC, whereas the experiment melting point was 131 133 ᵒC. In the synthesis of Benzil,
2.328 grams of crude Benzil were obtained. Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on theoretical yield calculations, the yield for Benzil at the end of the reaction should be 2.368
grams. However, 2.328 grams of crude Benzil were obtained, producing a percent yield of 98.31%
(see Table 2). Once the crude Benzil was purified, 0.966 grams of purified Benzil remained. Thus, the
percent yield for purified Benzil was 40.79% (see Table 3). The loss of yield could be due to the
washing of the crystals using water before recrystallization. The melting point obtained for Benzil in
the experiment was 92 95 ᵒC (see Table 4). The actual literature melting point for Benzil is between 94
95 ᵒC (Pavia et al, 2013; Chemicalland21). Given that the melting point obtained in the experiment is
close to the actual melting point, the sample is relatively pure. However, since the experimental
melting point range has a wider window and started slightly lower compared to the actual melting
point, there may be some impurities present in the experimental sample of

Juvenile Justice System And For Reducing Juvenile Crime Rates
I. INTRODUCTION Regardless of what nation an individual resides in, certain issues are universally
important. Examples include crime, economics, education, family, healthcare, homelessness, poverty,
and many others. The United States is now the world leader in its rate of incarceration. Over the past
25 years, juvenile crime has skyrocketed, with drug crimes, gang violence, school shootings, and other
violent acts being regularly featured in the news. During the past 10 years, nearly all 50 states have
overhauled their juvenile justice laws, allowing more youths to be tried as adults. However, in
addressing crime, there must be an effective balance between deterrence, prevention, and punishment.
This paper analyzes the juvenile justice system and the effectiveness of sentencing alternatives like
juvenile detention centers and shelters. Part II details the history of the juvenile justice system. In Part
III, sentencing alternatives like sentencing alternatives like juvenile detention centers and shelters are
examined. Lastly, this paper concludes with suggestions for improving the juvenile justice system and
for reducing juvenile crime rates.
II. HISTORY OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM Prior to the twentieth century, there were no
significant differences between the way adult criminals and juvenile offenders were treated by the
criminal justice system. Early prisons housed adults, juveniles, men, women, sane and insane, all

Sense And Sensibility Play Summary
My impression of the play Sense Sensibility adapted by Jessica Swale was that it was almost like a
soap opera . There were tons of drama throughout the play and was also was almost two and half
hours long. It was based on a family the lives in England from the mid 90 s called the Dashwood s.
Throughout the play it was mostly based on the struggles that the Dashwood s went through on a daily
basis. The main struggle was them losing their father John Dashwood. They lost their castle of a house
and almost all of the wealth. Everything went to Mr. Dashwood s half brother and his wife. Also, the
love feuds that went on between Elinor Dashwood and Marianne Dashwood played a huge part of the
play. Sense Sensibility started off with the Dashwood s losing their house and basically all of their
money. This caused great anger and fear for the Dashwood family. Before the family had to move out
of the house one of the protagonist Elinor Dashwood fell in love with her sister in law s brother
Edward. They had to move into their distant relatives the Middleton s family. Their house wasn t
anything special and lived in a small town. It was hard for the Dashwood s to adjust to a completely
different lifestyle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lights didn t move with the actor. The Dashwood family were the main characters of the play and
they all wore white clothing, which made them stick out more. The director made a good call on
having them all in white because it made them seem more important than the others and when the
other played a different character it obvious. The other characters were dressed in typical mid 90 s
England wardrobe with lots of colors and pants. The scenery of the play was based on the screen in the
back of the stage. It was changed throughout different scenes. The scene would look like you were in a
house, or outside in the valley, or by the ocean. The music in the play was when Marianne would play

What Is The Simplified Workflow For Nucidic Acid Isolation...
3.3.8. Simplified Workflow for Nucleic Acid Isolation from Captured Cells An important aspect for
cell capture devices is the ability to easily access cells and nucleic acids for downstream analysis (e.g.
clonal expansion, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), gene expression, and sequencing) to
determine the type of primary tumor and monitor disease progression [130, 131]. Microfluidic cell
capture approaches are typically formed by permanently bonding the channel network to the capture
surface, and access to the captured cells and nucleic acids is only possible by flowing fluid through the
channel. With the magnetic latching used in SEAM, the channel and the surface can be quickly
decoupled to provide open access to the captured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(b) Cell lysis with direct transfer of captured cells from nanotextured PDMS surface into lysis buffer.
(c) Comparison of nucleic acid extraction efficiency using the two methods. The data is normalized to
the amount of nucleic acid directly extracted from a cell suspension. (*p value 0.05; n = 5). Results
showed that approximately twice as much nucleic acid was extracted from the direct transfer method
(1523 ± 225.9 ng, A260/280 = 2.03 ± 0.02) compared to in channel lysis (647 ± 5.7 ng, A260/280 =
1.99 ± 0.08) with statistically significant differences (n = 5, p value 0.05). For the normalization of
data in Figure 3.10(c) the number of cells equivalent to the initial cell seeding density was pipetted
directly from cell suspension into lysis buffer. The data are presented as the extraction efficiency with
respect to the control. The extraction efficiency of direct transfer and in channel method was 80% and
35%, respectively. The purity of the extracted nucleic acid between the methods was comparable, but
the direct transfer method was simple to implement and did not require sample handling or fluid
manipulation. The straight channel used here represented a conservative extraction because more
complicated branched networks can lead to sample losses from dead volumes, external tubing, and
large surface area to volume ratios microfluidic channels. The open cell access enabled by SEAM
simplified the experimental workflow for cell processing required for

The Joint Commission Has Instituted A Number Of Goals...
The Joint Commission has instituted a number of goals nationally; the aim is to improve patient s
safety. The goals selected look at areas that are of concern in the healthcare industry particularly how
it affect patients safety and make recommendations how to reduce if not eradicated these. The Joint
Commission is the governing body that accredited hospitals and other health care organizations. The
two hospitals that this paper will be comparing, using the goals and criteria recommended by the Joint
commission, is Holy Cross Hospital located at 1500 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD and Shady
Grove Hospital situated at, 9901 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, MD.
The goals set by the Joint commission are:
1. Improve the accuracy of patient identification. The recommendation is for all healthcare providers
to institute a policy of using at least two patient identifiers when providing care, treatment, and
services. This goal has two objectives, one to verify the individual as the person for whom the service
or treatment for and to match the service or treatment to that individual.
2. Improve communication effectiveness among caregivers. The objective is to provide the responsible
licensed caregiver these results within an established period so that the patient can receive treatment in
a timely manner.
3. Improve the safety of using medications. The findings were that often medication error were made
because medications and other solutions were removed from their original

Essay about How Music Effects Mood and Perception in...
Music is a fundamental necessity in the world that we live in today. We all implement music in our
everyday lives whether it s professionally or solely for entertainment purposes. Some people build
careers on music as musicians, composers, singers, or teachers while the latter of us just need music to
get through the day whether we re driving or at work or just need to relax. The need for music in our
contemporary society affects us in a myriad of different ways including the undeniable effect on our
moods. The sound of just one note, one chord, can send an instantaneous message to the brain that,
psychologically, can make us think or act in a certain way. These reactions can positively or negatively

Lucy, daughter of an abusive alcoholic, seeks refuge in a shop owner s store while her father is
fighting in a boxing tournament. The music is sweet and mournful in the shots with Lucy and the shop
owner and brutal in the shots with the father. The technique of cross cutting between Lucy and the
shop owner develops the element of time as well as the music. In just a few minutes of this scene, the
father fights, discovers where Lucy is, and goes to the shop to retrieve Lucy. The cross cutting
technique allows the audience to know where the characters are in relation to one another, but the
music is the element that distorts the audience s perception of reality. The music, especially of that
interconnected with the father, heightens the audience s emotions. We are on the edge of our seats
when the father discovers where Lucy is. As he makes his way to the shop, we want to scream to Lucy

the most effective ways music can affect mood and perceptions is how a score can relate or define a
character. Directors choose to associate a character with a particular sound or musical theme so that

people should take care of their mental and emotional well being to create more positivity all around
them, whether it s for friends, family, or an outsider. When we as a society achieved this goal, we

A Brief Note On Environmental Psychology Research Methods...
Environmental Psychology Research Methods
Summary
In this study conducted by Megan J. Bissing Olsoni, Aarti Iyer, Kelly S. Fielding and Hannes Zacher,
a survey/diary design was used to examine the relationship of pro environmental behavior, employees
daily affect, pro environmental attitude, daily task related pro environmental behavior, and daily
proactive pro environmental behavior. There were 56 participants in the study and they were all
employed in small businesses. The surveys were done twice daily, after the initial baseline survey was
conducted. Surveys were taken only on workdays, concluding on the tenth work day. The authors had
various hypotheses concerning the effects of daily un activated positive affect and pro environmental
attitude, and if they would predict daily task related pro environmental behavior, as well how daily
activated positive affect would predict daily proactive pro environmental behavior among employees.
The findings were positive in their majority of their hypotheses. The findings propose that the

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew
up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress
mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her
sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford
English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her
upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits
suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions,
beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like
it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of
meanings, an inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory,
queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative
years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist,
deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that
compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism,
and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant
rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as
discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s
production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world
through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period
piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor,
an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized
happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of
the internalized conflict of the family, and

Disadvantages Of Multicultural Public Policy
1. In the last few years there have been many democracies, which have begun to implement
multicultural public policies in their states. As multicultural policies have increased worldwide, there
have been many debates regarding the concept of justice within society. In order to understand this
debate of what justice is, this essay will analyze different aspects of multicultural public policy, such
as recognition and the welfare state in a multicultural society.
According to Taylor, the link between identity and recognition is a result of the recognition or
misrecognition of a group by other members of society (Cite). Each group in society has their own
unique identity based on their culture, which requires recognition from the rest of the society ... Show

One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools. One
of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that it acts
as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the education is
taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are not fully
represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus creating many
cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of multiculturalism.
Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents the citizens (mostly
schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. He continues and says that it
does not include the four main elements of citizenship (civil, political, social and cultural) and as a
result does not teach the youth what it means to be a participating citizen. Bank also believes that is
crucial for us in a multicultural society to use the transformative citizenship education system, which
enables all the citizens and youth to understand their complex identities. This way of teaching will
also validate and recognize the culture of the students, and it will open the passageway for civil

Characteristics Of A Smoothly Running Machine
Explanation of Issues Forte stated that systems have been compared to machines, bodies, and species
(Forte, 2007, p 170). Characteristics of a smoothly running machine are coordination and an
integration of parts; you, the owner, can assume a reliable cause and effect relationship among these
parts of the machine (Forte, 2007, p 170). The reason Systems Theory applies to the Brown family is
because all of the parts of the family are struggling independently but by determining how each
individual is affecting the behaviors of others, it may be determined how to best proceed with
treatment.
By examining the Brown family with Systems Theory, it can be identified that the Brown family

The illegal activity is likely drawing negative attention from the neighbors and has already drawn the
attention of the justice system in town. This system would not be identified as a system in which the
family is functioning well. Therefore, this is not a resource that would be utilized to build upon for
treatment progress. If we examine the parental interactions with the systems they belong to, Steve and
Theresa have difficulties appropriately interacting with their system which then in turn means their
behaviors will directly affect their children s behaviors. At the basic level, Steve did not graduate from
high school, does not pay his tax returns and has an unstable relationship with his wife. Theresa is in
poor medical health and is dependent on her adult daughter at this time. Neither parent stays in regular

relationship. However, one strength of the parental system is that both parents still talk to each other

Another impression that Morgan says is related when he says they were painfully aware referring to

However, after the people who have moved to Massachusetts there were thought challenges that were
going to be arisen for the residents and for John Winthrop. The first challenge was going to be Roger
Williams. The problem that Williams represented was that he was going against what Winthrop
believed was better for the community which was to not separate from each other. But, this did not

Edna St. Vincent Millay
[Women have loved before as I love now] : Burdens and Foiled Expectations Women have loved
before as I love now/ At least, in lively chronicles of the past (lines 1 2). These opening lines seem to
simultaneously show love as something old, trite, and exciting. In [Women have loved before as I love

them. She writes how she used to seek out the parts which focused on love, describing the love of past
women as something passionate and strong. Millay also goes on to say that out of all the women alive,
she feels that only she connects with the love of the past, and that only she truly feels love. [Women

sexes. When love is typically described, it is thought of as a joy, almost pure. Most people want to be

referring to the act of love itself, she describes the women she identifies with bearing as I bear/love

Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this
symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as
the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his
staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was
mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. The staff

Brown then succumbs to the temptation. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment before he

Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife
then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his
faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do
because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. There is no good on
earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne
then connects this to the biblical story when the snake tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Appraisal
Archives are well documented extensive records or collected data of historical documents which are
used as tools for critical analysis. Appraisal on the other hand is the act of estimating or judging the
nature or value of something. Essentially, taking into account the definitions, archival appraisal is
looking at all the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in mind its pros and cons,
its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the strengths and weaknesses. It is
critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior motive so to speak is to preserve the
documents by adding value, keeping in mind the various biases and results of other s studies, in order
to extend the life of the archived documents. The concept of appraisal highlights the method of
assessing the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of any sort of partiality. It should not favour
any type of user. The appraisal is not supposed to be objective, not subjected to any sort of personal
beliefs or opinions, nor shall it be based on any influenced notion. ... Show more content on

Religion Reflection
Before taking American Religious Lives, I had previously taking Mystery and Meaning, that was my

me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious
Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church
growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is
involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for
me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the
topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being
associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion
and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very
complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different
background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know
about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and
that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. (Wormald, 1).
Another topic that I found intriguing was that most of the immigrants that come to

Increased Military Spending During the Cold War Brought...
The increase in military spending is another argument that caused stagnation in the Soviet Union
during the period. Brezhnev spent huge amount of money in the defense sector and according to
Blanchard Froot et al. (1994) the share of defense spending in GNP was 12% in 1960 70, and
increased by 4% in 1975 80 to 16%, even though the country was is deep economic crisis. Brezhnev
increased military spending each year; even as the country needed the spending in other important
sectors, to boots the growth of the country, and caused low level of economic development. Brezhnev
increased the spending specifically on nuclear materials production plants, compared to weapons.

The doctrine made it possible for the country to intervene in another socialist state (any Eastern Bloc
nation), internal affairs when the state social system and the states common interests were threatened.
In early 1968 began the Czechoslovak Communist Party under the leadership of Alexander Dubček to
introduce a series of reforms, including the abolition of censorship (Fordham.edu, 2014). In response
to these efforts, the Soviet Union launched a policy to combat anti socialist forces (Wilde, 2014). The
doctrine was first used in 1968 when the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia to end the Prague
Spring (Fordham, 2014). The outcome of the invasion by the Soviet Union made Czechoslovakia go
back to communist control, even if it meant a third world war (BBC, 2014). Mikhail Gorbachev s
government denounced the Brezhnev doctrine in the late of Soviet Union s life. Policy change does
not necessarily come with leadership change. Russia is a fundamentally different society than the
Soviet Union. Communism is replaced by capitalism, Russians can travel abroad and Internet
revolution has long since reached the country. Russia connoisseurs are comparing just the Putin
controlled period, which the country is in now, with 18 years under Leonid Brezhnev from 1964 to
1982. Prime Minister Medvedev has talked a lot about modernization, but stagnation is the word that

In a world where we can find identical merchandise in more than one store, layout and presentation
become key differentiating factors. Create Your Store for Your Target Customer You can have the most
unique, creative and different store on the planet, but if doesn t conform to what your customers want
and expect, then it is of no value. Retail has always been, and will always be, about the consumer.
Your entire store concept must be built around your target customer. Succeed at satisfying this shopper
and you win the game. Build and design a store that looks beautiful but doesn t fit the marketplace and
the only people who will be happy are the architect and contractors. Take a Strategic Approach
Unfortunately, the days of running a traditional Ma and Pa operation, lacking any real business
sophistication, are long gone. A haphazard approach to store layout generates less than desired results.
You must squeeze every ounce of potential out of your store to make it a winner. How you present
your store is a very strategic part of your business. In order to position every item in its proper
location, you must have a far more detailed plan than the usual It was the only place left available, so
that s where it ended up! Give your best selling merchandise the most favourable display areas in your
store. There s no point in making the job of selling products any more

A Report On The, And Crime, Fraud, Theft And Theft Of A...
1. Introduction Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, however this may
result in increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as
redistributive crime. Retailers prioritize the products they secure and those that they leave unsecured,
leading to an increase in the shrink of the items that were of less concern. In most retail companies,
there is a loss prevention (LP) department tasked with minimizing product loss, referred to as
inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the preventable loss of a company s assets, like the loss
associated with redistributive crime, by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers
continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues,
such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. Furthermore, the improved technology that consumers
have access to increases their ability to steal products like ink. This drives LP to make technological
progress to prevent further inventory shrinkage. However, there are budget constraints and efficiency
problems that arise with newer, more complex LP technology. Using a case study of the ink
department at Office Depot, this paper will evaluate redistributive crime and analyze the security
measures needed to combat such crimes. While doing this, I will pay particular attention to the
marginal benefits and marginal costs of the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems in

Prostitution In Brazil Essay
If prostitution is legal in Brazil, why is prostitution legal if brothels are going to be illegal to operate?
Even though prostitution is legal in Brazil, it is illegal to operate or to employ prostitutes in any other
way. This is a big issue because there are still brothels that operate secretly in Brazil, but if the
Brazilian government s legalized brothels, they would help the Brazilian economy by they can help
lead to a chain effect that would significantly benefit Brazil s economy, primarily through tax revenue
which will bring in a lot of money for the government. More criminal activity is occurring while these
brothels main to be illegal. Many people would argue that legalizing a brothel would just be a gift to
pimps, traffickers, and the sex industry. If the brothels are government owned and run by a person they
would have to be guidelines and policies that the government has portrayed to them. According to a

Article 230 of the Brazilian Penal Code states that the penalty for pimping if the victim is aged 14
through 18 years increases. The two articles corresponds with each other. Brothels may be illegal, but
night clubs are legal as long as the prostitutes are their freely and on their own will. Even though
brothels are illegal, they are not unusual in Brazil. Most of the brothels are full of corruption and
sexual exploitation. In Rio de Janeiro s Centarus, a high end brothel, are known as termas, which
mean they re ostensibly spas or night clubs. They are referred to as termas because termas are a
legitimate way of work, bringing in actual, legal, source of income giving the Brazilian law
enforcement a reason of not doing anything illegal. The first reason why brothels should be legalized
is because it will help decrease the criminal activity with sex workers in

The Consequences Of The Blockade Of Qatar
On October 25, 2017, The Guardian reported that Egypt, Bahrain, UAE, and Saudi Arabia s blockade
of Qatar has the potential to create long lasting rifts in the region. In June of this year, the
aforementioned nations all cut off diplomatic ties with the small peninsular nation of Qatar. Saudi
Arabia and UAE said that diplomatic and economic relations would be restored once Qatar has broken
all of its links with the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, and Iran. Qatar emphatically denied that it had
any financial links with those extremist groups. This stalemate has led to a long lasting blockade that
as of writing is still ongoing. With no end in sight, some observers are worried that the blockade will
have negative impacts on the region and on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fearing uprisings of their own, nations such as the United Arab Emirates backed Saudi Arabia. When
Hamad abdicated the throne in 2013, it appeared that Qatar s international influence would end. Until
this year, that certainly seemed to be the case. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt enacted a
blockade of Qatar, which prompted an international response. President Trump and the United States
appeared to back Saudi Arabia, while Iran and Turkey, two regional powers, backed Qatar.
The blockade of Qatar is throwing the long held status quo of the region into disarray. All of the Arab
Gulf states are allies of the United States and currently Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain are imposing
the blockade on Qatar, with Kuwait staying neutral. The involvement of the United States, Turkey and
Iran seems to indicate that this conflict was more than just a petty dispute between the gulf states. In
this unipolar world, it would make sense that once a dominant power chooses a side, a conflict such as
this one would soon meet its conclusion. However, even with the United States involvement, the Qatar
blockade has been in effect for five months and has no end in sight. This would seem to indicate that
perhaps the United States is not as powerful as previously thought. This leads me to ask the following
question: How does the blockade of Qatar impact American goals in the Middle East.

Explain What Is Meant By St. Augustine Of Hippo
Questions about sin have been the focus of much theological conversation and discussion for the
reason that how one answers them strongly influences the rest of Christian doctrine. Augustine of
Hippo is regarded as one of the most important and well known theologians and philosophers in the
history of the Christian religion. His writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and
Western philosophy. Augustine s faith development recorded in treatises, sermons, and letters
highlights the theological landscape of the time and one man s journey to Christianity. Augustine
developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, accommodating a variety of methods and
perspectives through traditions and history. St. Augustine of Hippo ... Show more content on

Both Pegasus and Augustine based their teachings off the writings of Paul, to the point that Augustine
discovered what he saw as the essence of Christian faith by reading Romans. The basis of Augustine s
Doctrine of Original Sin stemmed from the thought that original sin was transmitted from generation
to generation through sexual intercourse. The theology of original sin that Augustine articulated in 397
is reflected clearly and repeatedly in Augustine s most famous writing, his Confessions, which he
began to write at the same time, shortly after he became bishop of Hippo. Augustine understood
original sin in that:
. . . all men, born according to nature, are born with sin, that is, without the fear of God, without
confidence towards God and with concupiscence, and that this original disease or flaw is truly a sin,
bringing condemnation and also eternal death to those who are not reborn through baptism and the
Holy Spirit (Article II). Augsburg Confession of Faith

Marc Darko had reached the basketball stadium, and another devastating vision flashed before my

decided to camp out at the top of the bleachers because it was all dark there. As he climbed to get to
the top, the smooth, plastic chairs led his way. Next, Marc Darko sent text messages to the Chinese
Mob telling them he was waiting for them at the stadium. Then, Marc Darko received a text back. The
text back stated, We are two minutes out; we ll be there soon. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him.
He whispered, Who s there? Nobody replied to him. Then he whispered again, Who s there? Finally
someone replied, It s us, Jonny and Chelsea. I knew you guys would come back. You can t stay away
from me, murmured Marc Darko. We know. We came back to help you fight the Chinese Mob. You
can t do this all alone, but we are going to need our gear back if we are going to help you fight the

Dead Man s Pockets
Stephen Covey, an educator, author, and businessman, once said most of us spend too much time on
what is urgent and not enough time on what is important . A lot of people are so focused on work that
has to be done, even though it s not what they should be prioritizing, for instance, family and friends.
They are not appreciating living in the moment and instead are rushing around, not making time for
the things they should be. If people are determined to get work done, they will soon take actions they
wish hadn t occurred. In the short story, Contents of the Dead Man s Pockets , the main character,
Tom, faces a similar problem in where ambition to do work is overtaking him and he can t see what is

The whole time Tom is spending on the ledge, he s thinking and picturing that he will fall. He s gone

Tom now understands that he doesn t want to die, especially over a piece of paper. He won t die earlier
than he has to. Once Tom makes it inside, his work isn t the most important thing in his life anymore.
Tom is able to break the glass and make it back into the safety of his apartment. Since it has in reality
only been a few minutes, Tom now decides to not work and go to the movie with Clare instead. As he
leaves, he sees the yellow paper, the pencil flying, scooping off the desk and, unimpeded by the
glassless window, sail out into the night and out of his life (109). Ironically, immediately after Tom
risks his life for the piece of paper, it simply flies out the window again. This time it sails out of his

In this way, when suppliers see that the purchasing department of an organization understand their

Case Summary In early September 2007, Andrew Barker emerged from a lengthy discussion on the

opportunity existed for a new energy beverage brand to be produced, marketed, and distributed by the
company in 2008. Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. was the only major domestic nonalcoholic beverage

In the end, the pricing is the key factor to being successful. I will need to come up with a competitive
price that will be able to compete but also have high enough margins to where we can make it. 3.
Analysis: The analysis section will require me to evaluate each of the strategic options that we might
have. I am going to layout the pros and cons for: heavy users, all energy drink users and the adult
segment, as shown below in the appendices as figure 1 1. Single serve energy beverage drink retail
prices have generally settled at roughly $2.00 per single serve package, regardless of size. As a
consequence, larger single serve packages are priced lower on a per ounce basis than smaller
packages. Shown in figure 1 2, it shows that our drink Rush NRG will need to come down a little bit
in prices to be competitive and make margins meet. The 16 ounce size, representing about 50 percent
of case sales in convenience stores, has posted the fastest growth. Multi packs represent a small
portion of case sales and typically are marketed through supermarkets and mass merchandisers. When
coming to choose what version you want to make, it is obvious that regular energy beverages have an
80 percent share of the market; sugar free has 20 percent. Deciding what type of distribution to use
between off premise and on premise to me is a no brainer. Convenience stores accounted for 74
percent of off premise retail dollar sales. They also have a very high gross

  • 2. African Americans And African American History As African Americans we need to know the history of our ancestors in order to make the next generation better. African Americans need to know the struggles and hardships that our ancestors had to go through that pave the way for my generation and the generations after me. It is important to know how our ancestors had to endure slavery. If the older generation does not continue to pay homage to the history of our ancestors, the younger generation will lose sight of what our ancestors have been through (Roberts, 2011). The younger generation is not interested in African American History. It is about what someone can do for them. The younger generation wants everything handed to them not to work for it because the younger generation thinks the world owe them something. The younger generation does not have respect for their elders now. As African Americans we should not forget the segregation and the hanging and deaths of African Americans because of the color of their skin. It is also important because racism still exist today (Roberts, 2011). There are still racist white people that do not want the world to change (Roberts, 2011). There are some white people that want to go back to slavery because white people think African Americans are not worthy (Roberts, 2011). White people do not want African Americans to know about their history because there were intelligent African Americans that were inventors. Some examples of African American inventors are: Garrett Morgan invented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nietzsche s God Is Dead God is dead is a widely quoted statement by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It first appears in Nietzsche s 1882 collection The Gay Science also translated as The science of joy German: Die fröhliche Wissenschaft), in sections 108, 125, and for a third time in section 343 . It is also found in Nietzsche s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is most responsible for popularizing the phrase. The idea is stated in The Madman as follows: Although the statement and its meaning is attributed to Nietzsche it is important to note that this was not a unique position as Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel pondered the death of God, first in his Phenomenology of Spirit where he considers the death of God to not seen as anything but an easily recognized part of the usual Christian cycle of redemption . Later on Hegel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the madman s passage, the man is described as running through a marketplace shouting, I seek God! I seek God! Frustrated, the madman smashes his lantern on the ground, crying out that God is dead, and we have killed him, you and I! But I have come too soon, he immediately realizes, as his detractors of a minute before stare in astonishment: people cannot yet see that they have killed God. He goes on to say: Earlier in the book, Nietzsche wrote God is Dead; but given the way of men, there may still be caves for thousands of years in which his shadow will be shown. And we we still have to vanquish his shadow, too. Reinvent The Movie Theatre Analysis The article Reinvent the Movie Theatre written by Hunter Walk proposes to fans of movies being traditionally watched that the limited movements spectators can act out inside a movie theatre is the reason the capacity of audiences who come to watch the films have not increased. Walk investigates deep into a spectator s mindset in regards to how they may want to behave in a movie theatre if that particular individual is similar to him who wants their media experience plugged in (Walk) during this kind of entertainment. He also creates a discussion around the visual appeal of putting more lighting and electricity outlet inside the movie theatre, as well as mentioning about certain behaviours discouraged in such a public area that should instead be acceptable. Overall, Walk s desire to reformat the traditional expectations when watching a movie by involving the use of electronic devices, redecorating the place of theatre itself and allowing behaviours contradictory to people s beliefs during an airing movie will ultimately improve the system of theatre to gain more attendees for the shows. A few ideas he presents are for audiences to be able to look up the cast list online [with their phone turned on], [and] tweet out a comment (Walk) inside the movie ... • 5. Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride Taylor Lane Colyer Dr. Cossar Final Paper April 11, 2017 Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These different genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves and form hypotheses. Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in. Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen (and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom Analysis That said, we should not forget that leadership and empowerment often strongly depend on mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered a sense of unity and communality. As the media were very selective when it came to the coverage of local struggles, the attention that leaders like Martin Luther King and others received was important to force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level. Therefore, Payne s critique entails different layers. First, it is clearly a criticism of a scholarship that selectively focuses on famous leaders and the most dramatic events. As such, it is a critique of a historical narrative that provides only a glimpse of what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance. There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how far this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity and the solidarity among the organizers and the local population and fails to mention the tensions among direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united under what they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress theoretical and practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of communality and solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over again, as soon as the external threat either diminishes or proves resistant to change, movements tend to disunite. This is what Baker and other activists wanted to prevent by modeling their training around local long term strategies and individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Emile Durkheim s Theories on Suicide Essay Emile Durkheim s Theories on Suicide I chose to write about Durkheim s theories on suicide. Although I don t completely agree with all of them, I will discuss what my text says they are and what I perceive them to be. Most of Durkheim s work on suicide was published in his third book, Suicide. It was a very important book because it was a serious effort to establish empiricism in sociology. This empiricism would provide a sociological perspective on a phenomenon that was previously psychological and individualistic. He proposed three major forms of suicide, some with subdivisions. These three forms of suicide were egoistic, altruistic, and anomic. With egoistic suicide, Durkheim proposes that a person will commit suicide if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next, altruistic suicide, is the complete opposite of egoistic suicide. A person who commits altruistic suicide thinks that the larger group is more important than he is. All things of the larger group take precedent over the individual which leads to suicide. We discussed honorable suicide under this category and one thing still bothers me from that discussion. Our humble narrator gave the example of a soldier jumping on a grenade as a form of honorable suicide. I disagree with this statement. I would argue that this is not a form of suicide but a form of training. This man or woman is trained to give his life for his country. It isn t logical to think that the person jumping on the grenade thinks that he is committing suicide. Aside from that aspect, I feel that I understand this form of suicide the most. I think that being overlooked by the dominant group can lead to a person taking their own life. There are numerous times where we have seen on the news about the kid no one paid attention to taking his or her own life. Next, there is anomic suicide. This idea was the hardest for me to understand because it seems to go against logic at first. My interpretation of anomic is that a person has to have a set amount or number of norms or laws imposed on them. There has to be an equal amount to keep the person balanced. To little or ... • 8. The Theory Of Macroeconomic Analysis Deals With Economic... The theory of macroeconomic analysis deals with economic aggregates. This theory is very critical and important in decision making by planning agents in the economy (Mankiw, 2010). Macroeconomics analysis is of great and paramount importance to the three entities that comprise of any economy who are the households, firms and the government institution. The households in the economy are majorly interested in the macroeconomic analysis to determine and know how a slight change in general price level is likely to affect their welfare through what they can be able to purchase with the same level of nominal income. It is also very crucial to the households in explaining how changes in the nominal interest rates is likely to influence the cost of borrowing money by the households for investment purpose. Macroeconomics analysis looks at the aggregate effect of those changes putting into consideration all the households in the economy in order to come up with just one decision measure that is characteristic of the overall economy (Samuelson, 2008). The firms in the economy consult macroeconomic analysis when they want to establish the effect of increased production in the market. They would like to be certain about whether such a move would be welcome by the consumers in the market and whether the consumers would have enough money to purchase the products or whether the aggregate national demand for the product is commensurate to the aggregate level of production for the ... Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to support IDS. Fitness function and GA operators crossover, mutation, and population representation play an important role in improving the performance of an IDS: high detection rate, and low false positive rate. This paper suggests a Fitness Function using Reward Penalty technique that rewards the good chromosome and penalizes the bad chromosome, for improved performance. We suggest that the GA parameters be optimized for better IDS performance. Keywords Intrusion detection; genetic algorithm; fitness function; detection rate; false positive rate. I. INTRODUCTION Intrusion can be defined as the actions that attempt to compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or availability of a computer resource [1]. Intrusion Detection System is a software or device to discover the intrusion activity. Based on detection process, IDS can be classified into two groups: Anomaly detection, and misuse/signature detection. Anomaly detection looks for rare or unusual network activities, while misuse/signature detection uses past well known attack patterns signature to identify illegal activities. This paper deals with only misuse/signature detection in computer networks. The topic of climate change is an on going debate between organisations as it is the greatest long term challenge facing the international community (Exhibit 11). And with a contribution of 25.9% of CO2 emissions, which is the highest amongst all sectors (Exhibit 11), it collides with Generation s philosophy of maintaining investments within solely environmentally friendly companies. However, although Generation s research includes climate change as major theme, other themes such as poverty/real needs and human capital are also imperative issues when looking at investment possibilities, and as coal is an inevitable power source for the country , an ethically green company such as Generation could support future investments in building cleaner, more sustainable coal plants. Additionally, ABB India offers turnkey systems and services for transmission and distributions for power grid and power plants (Exhibit 8). These are implemented by the company to focus on energy efficiency and improve performance showing a clear positive approach in enabling a less wasteful grid system. • 11. Recycling Is A Waste Of Money And Time Abstract In the not too distant future, recycling will no longer be speculated and studied. It will simply be a fact of everyday life. In the last 20 years, recycling rates in the United States have risen from 13 percent to almost 24 percent. More than ever before, recycled waste is being kept out of our county dumps and incinerators and is being put to many different uses, creating new jobs and companies. Those who don t agree that recycling has any benefit say that recycling costs more than dumping, falsely claiming that recycling is a complete waste of money and time. However, recycling today is often less expensive than dumping or burning, and is quickly becoming the preferred alternative. In this essay, I want to show how recycling isn t just a business or environmental issue, it is something much larger that we must embrace and make a priority in our every day living. As stewards of this planet, we are obligated to make everyone cognizant of how important recycling is to our existence, and pass what we have learned on to future generations. If we can only begin to think differently about how we handle our every day waste, we can help ensure a clean environment well into the future. What is recycling? Recycling is returning materials to their raw material components and using them again to supplement or replace new materials in the manufacture of new products. Recycling involves several steps; separating recyclable materials from waste, collecting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many different things have been tried, but none have put a cease to the exorbitant costs, which most believe to be the main problem. Out of everything tried, the most recent and popular system is known as managed care. Managed care is the most common form of health insurance in the United States, and provides more a cost efficient coverage than paying a fee for service charge. However, it is also a very complicated system. Over the next few pages I am going to try and go over the main parts of the managed care structure. In the end, I am going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the goals have not yet been met, managed care has continued to grow throughout the past four decades. At the end of 1996, there were over 600 HMO s in operation, enrolling around 65 million members, which is about 1/4 of the population (Tufts 1998). Before I get into the different types of managed care organizations, I am going to go over some cost control methods in managed care. Managed care organizations are different methods used to control utilization of services. Utilization management requires three things. First, you have to have an expert evaluation of which services are medically necessary in a given case. This ensures that unnecessary services are kept to a minimum. Secondly it requires a determination of how those services can be provided most inexpensively, while maintaining a high level of quality of care. It also requires a review of the process of care and changes in the patients

But his hostility only got worse, to the point where he hung the cat in the back yard. His actions only further prove that he wasn t in his right mind when he committed these crimes. Some people may think he was sane because he had the conscience to think it was wrong when he cut out the cat s eye. • 15. Technology And The Loss Of Socially Dependence On Technology Technology has rapidly progressed and has become a big part of everyday life. From cell phones to self driving cars, technology is relied on every day, of every minute. People are starting to depend on technology so much that soon, they will not be able to do anything themselves. Some may say that technology will make life more easier and efficient, but what they may not know is that when people make life too efficient, it can just as easily malfunction and have loopholes. (Add something to transition) Texting instead of talking. Selfies instead of socializing. Screens instead of success. People are too reliant on technology and they do not live in the moment, they do not interact with people face to face, and technology can cause loss of basic motor skills. People have become overly dependent on technology by not being able to live in the moment anymore. For instance, people who are watching a performance are most likely to be on their phones posting pictures about it on social media. As stated by Huffington Post, According to T Mobile, 47 percent of any guided audience text others during a show, while 32 percent engage in social media during a show (Silva 2014). Americans have vacillated between between a Puritan, disapproving attitude towards it, and a more nuanced attitude that viewed sex as a good thing, provided the proper circumstances. In either case, sex was something that was viewed as having a proper place, namely between two people joined by marriage. (Finer, np.) To avoid the risk of sounding culture warrioresque, I want to be clear that at this point, I m not making a judgement on the current state of sexuality in America, simply commenting on the consequences I perceive to be a result of a departure from this traditional way ... • 17. The Controversy Of Animal Experimentation Animal testing is also known as animal experimentation is the act of testing drugs, chemicals, cosmetics and acid on animals such as; dogs, cats, rats, mice, ferrets, hamsters and monkeys for many purposes. Today I will be focusing on cosmetics. Cosmetic companies create makeup, lipstick, foundation, blush, highlighters etc. All of these products are tested on animals before use on humans and I believe that this is wrong and should be banned in all countries. Firstly, animals have been tested on for the past decades. According to P.E.T.A (peta.org 2015 statistics) article it is stated that each year over 100 million animals such as; dogs, cats, rats, mice, ferrets, hamsters and monkeys are killed in U.S Laboratories for many reasons including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A human body and an animal body are not the same. According to the HSI (Humane Society International), different species react differently to different chemicals and powders used in cosmetics and what an animal might experience or react to is not the same as a human. This proves that animal testing is unreliable and wasteful. Animal testing is also very expensive. The US National Institute of Health spends about $14 billion out of its $31 billion budget on animal testing and research proving to be very costly and inefficient for research or production in other areas. Many people might say that animal testing has proven results for the safety of beauty products and cosmetics. Although, in some cases it is helpful, why would you want to use such an old outdated method of research in 2017 many more methods have opened up due to advanced technology. Animal testing dates back to the 1900 s and yet in the 21st century companies are still doing this even though it is more costly than alternative methods. In conclusion, animal testing is unreliable, expensive and inhumane to our beloved animals around the world. I believe that governments should fully ban animal testing. Examples include crime, economics, education, family, healthcare, homelessness, poverty, and many others. The United States is now the world leader in its rate of incarceration. Over the past 25 years, juvenile crime has skyrocketed, with drug crimes, gang violence, school shootings, and other violent acts being regularly featured in the news. During the past 10 years, nearly all 50 states have overhauled their juvenile justice laws, allowing more youths to be tried as adults. However, in addressing crime, there must be an effective balance between deterrence, prevention, and punishment. This paper analyzes the juvenile justice system and the effectiveness of sentencing alternatives like juvenile detention centers and shelters. Part II details the history of the juvenile justice system. In Part III, sentencing alternatives like sentencing alternatives like juvenile detention centers and shelters are examined. Lastly, this paper concludes with suggestions for improving the juvenile justice system and for reducing juvenile crime rates. II. There were tons of drama throughout the play and was also was almost two and half hours long. It was based on a family the lives in England from the mid 90 s called the Dashwood s. Throughout the play it was mostly based on the struggles that the Dashwood s went through on a daily basis. The main struggle was them losing their father John Dashwood. They lost their castle of a house and almost all of the wealth. Everything went to Mr. Dashwood s half brother and his wife. Also, the love feuds that went on between Elinor Dashwood and Marianne Dashwood played a huge part of the play. Sense Sensibility started off with the Dashwood s losing their house and basically all of their money. This caused great anger and fear for the Dashwood family. Before the family had to move out of the house one of the protagonist Elinor Dashwood fell in love with her sister in law s brother Edward. Microfluidic cell capture approaches are typically formed by permanently bonding the channel network to the capture surface, and access to the captured cells and nucleic acids is only possible by flowing fluid through the channel. The purity of the extracted nucleic acid between the methods was comparable, but the direct transfer method was simple to implement and did not require sample handling or fluid manipulation. • 31. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of the internalized conflict of the family, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools. One of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that it acts as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the education is taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are not fully represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus creating many cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of multiculturalism. Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents the citizens (mostly schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. • 36. Characteristics Of A Smoothly Running Machine Explanation of Issues Forte stated that systems have been compared to machines, bodies, and species (Forte, 2007, p 170). Characteristics of a smoothly running machine are coordination and an integration of parts; you, the owner, can assume a reliable cause and effect relationship among these parts of the machine (Forte, 2007, p 170). The reason Systems Theory applies to the Brown family is because all of the parts of the family are struggling independently but by determining how each individual is affecting the behaviors of others, it may be determined how to best proceed with treatment. By examining the Brown family with Systems Theory, it can be identified that the Brown family belongs to several different systems and by examining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we examine the parental interactions with the systems they belong to, Steve and Theresa have difficulties appropriately interacting with their system which then in turn means their behaviors will directly affect their children s behaviors. At the basic level, Steve did not graduate from high school, does not pay his tax returns and has an unstable relationship with his wife. Theresa is in poor medical health and is dependent on her adult daughter at this time. Neither parent stays in regular contact with Raymond since he has been incarcerated which creates yet another tumultuous relationship. However, one strength of the parental system is that both parents still talk to each other regularly and are able to provide support to their children when it is needed. Next, we must examine each of the children individually as well. However, after the people who have moved to Massachusetts there were thought challenges that were going to be arisen for the residents and for John Winthrop. The first challenge was going to be Roger Williams. The problem that Williams represented was that he was going against what Winthrop believed was better for the community which was to not separate from each other. But, this did not stop Williams, who is being described by Morgan as a charming, sweet tempered, winning man, courageous, selfless, God intoxicated and stubborn the very soul of separatism (108). These opening lines seem to simultaneously show love as something old, trite, and exciting. In [Women have loved before as I love now] , Edna St. Vincent Millay describes the ancient love stories of the past and how she relates to them. She writes how she used to seek out the parts which focused on love, describing the love of past women as something passionate and strong. Millay also goes on to say that out of all the women alive, she feels that only she connects with the love of the past, and that only she truly feels love. [Women have loved before as I love now] shows that passionate love is a joyful burden that is shared by both sexes. When love is typically described, it is thought of as a joy, almost pure. Most people want to be in love. Millay, on the other hand, seems to represent passionate love as almost burdensome. When referring to the act of love itself, she describes the women she identifies with bearing as I bear/love like a burning city in the breast (lines 7 8). She also states [I] Do suffer love (line 11). The words here are all negative, in contrast to what the reader would expect. Yet, the narrator also seems to look upon this way of loving with longing. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. Appraisal on the other hand is the act of estimating or judging the nature or value of something. Essentially, taking into account the definitions, archival appraisal is looking at all the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in mind its pros and cons, its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the strengths and weaknesses. It is critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior motive so to speak is to preserve the documents by adding value, keeping in mind the various biases and results of other s studies, in order to extend the life of the archived documents. The concept of appraisal highlights the method of assessing the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of any sort of partiality. It should not favour any type of user. Essentially everything that we have learned in the class has been new to me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. • 44. A Report On The, And Crime, Fraud, Theft And Theft Of A... 1. Introduction Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, however this may result in increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as redistributive crime. Retailers prioritize the products they secure and those that they leave unsecured, leading to an increase in the shrink of the items that were of less concern. In most retail companies, there is a loss prevention (LP) department tasked with minimizing product loss, referred to as inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the preventable loss of a company s assets, like the loss associated with redistributive crime, by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues, such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. Furthermore, the improved technology that consumers have access to increases their ability to steal products like ink. This drives LP to make technological progress to prevent further inventory shrinkage. However, there are budget constraints and efficiency problems that arise with newer, more complex LP technology. Using a case study of the ink department at Office Depot, this paper will evaluate redistributive crime and analyze the security measures needed to combat such crimes.
