environment around it. Hughes uses personification to describe the scene the speaker
is witnessing in comparison of the water lily.
Ted Hughes used personification throughout the entire poem. Most of the
personification in the poem is based on the world around the flower instead of the
actual flower. In the fourth stanza, Hughes describes the eating habits of the dragonfly
by saying,
First observe the air s dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by.
This means the dragonfly is eating insects that are flying by and is describing the
flying insects as bullets . Another example of personification in the poem is in the
thirteenth stanza. The thirteenth stanza says,
Which, deep in both worlds, can be still,
As a painting, trembling hardly at all.
In this stanza Hughes is describing the still sitting water lily in all of the chaos
around it by saying the flower is not trembling in the water as if nothing is happening
at all.
Ted Hughes may not mention the flower many times in the poem but he does
mention it at the beginning and the end. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker
starts to describe the leaves on the bottom of the water lily.

Island bay and Owhiro bay, Wellington to collect data on the species of the rocky
shore. This area showed a clear pattern of the low tide, mid tide, high tide and
splash zone. The area had a variety of rocky shore species which were distributed in
a zonation pattern. The two species I have chosen to investigate are the Cellana
radians and the Cellana denticulata. Cellana radians commonly known as the Golden
/radiate limpet has an outer shell that is smooth and very flat and usually has a
darker colour with dark coloured lines. The Cellana radians is found in the lower
intertidal zoneand the mid intertidal zone and none in the high tidezone at sirens
rocks. The Cellana radians are herbivores and feed on microalgae. The Cellana
denticulata commonly known as the denticulate limpet has an outer cap shaped shell
that tends to have brown lines, this protects their muscular foot, and the Cellana
denticulata is an herbivore feeding on microalgae. It is found in the upper lower
intertidal zone, mid tide zone and very few in the high tide zone at sirens rock. The
Cellana denticulata and the Cellana radians showed that at sirens rocks the
community pattern of distribution was zonation. I will also be investigating the
adaptations, tolerance levels for abiotic factors for each species and the biotic factors
such as their interspecific relationship of competition for food and space on the rocky
shore surface relating to their distribution along the rocky shoreline at sirens rocks.

As a first year social work major, I was interested to know the impact writing has on
other graduate students and professionals in my discourse community. Before I
began my research, I knew that I would be required to type papers related to practices
in social work and field reflections, but I wanted to know more about the professional
writing I would need to be able to do further into my career. The goal of this report is
to show the importance of writing early in a social worker s career and to show how
