Firdaus Flat Or Round Characters
To establish of whether Firdaus is a flat character or a round one, we would first have to come to terms
with the multiple, overlapping network of knowledges which continuously disrupt any singular
reading of her. What I mean by this is that Firdaus, the text which she resides in, and the author that
has produced her are situated within discourse the West (and the East as its ideological shadow), the
Arab world (specifically Egypt), and the feminist subject that both strive to produce; that these
discourses work in many ways to contest each other brings into question of their validity. It is to this
point which I argue that flat or round characters are not static ontologies but produce alternative
reading of effaced or obscured by other in

College Is The Best Year Of Your Life
College is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. My first semester at college did not fit
that description. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I
had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most
terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit.
The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good
scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout
high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors.
Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet
going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to
do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with
one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones
in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them
and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce
them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls
really were.
It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit

The Autobiography Of Ariel Castro
Cleveland Abduction, A Sociological Paper
Jarred McDaniel
West Georgia Technical College
Ariel Castro grew up in an abusive household with divorced parents. Later down the line when he
married his wife, he became abusive to her. Eventually she divorced him, taking custody of their
children, and not ending in his favor. Which lead to even more repressed rage and sorrow from Castro,
Making him more depressed and lonely. To his upbringings and abusive relationship with his wife,
Castro seemed to have a loose interpretation of morality.
On the day of the first kidnapping; Michelle Knight was on her way to the courthouse for a child
custody case involving her son, which is when she crossed paths with Castro. Castro offered to give

family but the families of his victims; Castro inserted himself into neighborhood searches for Amanda
and Gina, trying to lower any suspicions or possibility of suspicion, as he pretended that he too was
looking for the missing girls.
However, Castro was finally caught in 2013, 11 years after his first kidnapping. He was caught when
he accidentally left the door slightly open, allowing Amanda to call for help; Nearby neighbors ran to
her aid by kicking open the door and helping her out, 911 was quickly called and police were shortly
dispatched. When police arrived they entered Castro s home finding Michelle and Gina upstairs, and
shortly after that Castro was hunted down and taken into custody.
In court, Castro was charged with multiple accounts of kidnapping and rape, Castro insisted that he
was a good person, and that he was not a monster; insisting that the sex was consensual. But against
all his pleading, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. And to Michelle, Amanda, and
Gina: this was due punishment, with Amanda telling Castro that the torture he inflicting on her can be

Heat Fracture on Rocks
Background
Heat fracture is when an increase in volume is observed, due to an increase in temperature. Simply
meaning that while a material is being heated, the rise in temperature causes it to take up more space.
Heat fracture doesn t only deal with high temperatures, it also deals with the effects of cooling on a
material. If cooling occurs then the opposite of expansion occurs as well, the material will begin to
shrink or decrease in size. Continuous heating and cooling will eventually lead to stress and that
makes the material break or fracture. When the material going through this type of weathering is
considered being fractured, it means it s dealing with cracking or breaking of the ... Show more

It was believed that if the amount of time that the rock went through heating and cooling increased,
then the weight of the rock would decrease because while the rock goes through more heating and
cooling eventually it will fracture causing the weight to decrease. This is called heat fracture. The data
gathered did prove the hypothesis to be correct. For the longer trials with more minutes, the rock s
weight did decrease more rather than the shorter amount of trials. For example, the one minute trial
barely had a 0.6g difference proving our hypothesis correct, while the 15 minute trial had a significant
change in the rock s weight due to the longer time experiment. The graph seemed to gradually increase
according to the longer trials. The only outlier was the last trial because it had such a small change
compared to the other trials, although all trials did support the original

Jacques Louis David Essay
David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his influence
determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was reflected in the
development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with tradition, and from
this break modern art is dated.
David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four times,
causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His pursuit of the
antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He borrowed
classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he mistakenly

During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most
distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured models, he
allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such as Antoine
Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously vital and in
them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible.
Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In
1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed.
He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the instructors
chair, drawing for the duration of the class .
When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter J.
M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on the
ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired work of
the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual neoclassical style,
drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on Roman sculpture. His
famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the new neoclassical style
in which

Innate Evil In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of young British boys crash on a deserted
island. Throughout the story, there are three significant situations that demonstrate the theme stating
that civilization can mitigate but never wipe out the innate evil that exists within all human beings.
The three situations are the first pig hunt, the torture of Robert, and the attempted murder of Ralph.
First of all, the hunt of the very first piglet is a demonstration of the boys civil habits that are still
engraved in them from their home lives. Ralph, Jack, and Simon are on their hunt for their first pig on
the island when they come across squealing sounds that lead them to their prey. After they stare at the
piglet for a while, they have the chance to kill it but Jack decides against it. Jack didn t want to kill the
piglet because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into live flesh; because of the
unbearable blood (Golding 29). Jack attempts to cover up his reasoning by saying that he was thinking
of a good spot to stab the pig, though Ralph and Simon knew why he hadn t. The boys were still living
in a civil society on the island as they had a leader, rules, and they all got along for the most part, so
the thought of killing a pig was terrifying and unrealistic for Jack. Evidently, Jack is embarrassed in
front of the boys because he did not kill their chance at food. During a meeting later that day, the other
boys are asking about the pigs on the island, and Jack and Ralph are explaining why they couldn t kill
it. Jack interrupts Ralph, and tells the boys that the pig ran away Before I could kill it but next time
(Golding 31)! Jack says this in an aggressive tone as he is defending himself and proving he is more
than capable to get them meat. The boys have not yet adapted to a life filled with chaos and savagery,
so they are still hesitant about harming animals since they never had experienced anything like that
back in England. However, the boys attitudes towards bloodletting start to become more realistic as
their lives on the island progress to a life of evil. Furthermore, the torture of Robert showcases the
transition from good to evil and civilized to savagery in

Anger And Forgiveness In The Film Smoke Signals
In the film Smoke Signals written by Sherman Alexie, anger and forgiveness play a major part in the
lives of the Native Americans who live in the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. Forgiving oneself or
forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie the changes
that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have overcome with anger
and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph, Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds
the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film where offering forgiveness would
hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of the characters actually reach inner peace?
Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he
ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his
father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the
physical abuse him and his mother were subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds
the fire because of their differing views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and
is very forgiving is Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has
lost the most at the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a
happy go lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others.
Interesting enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t
easy for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he
eventually finds peace.
The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho,
but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The movie begins
on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. It quickly advances to 1998 when the boys are
grown, but, shows excerpts from the past throughout the movie as they reminisced. The Reservation is
portrayed well, showing how Native American societies lived and

Public Administration And The Dichotomy
ORIGINS OF POLITICS ADMINISTRATION DICHOTOMY
The dichotomy has been one of the most important concepts in the field of public administration. Even
though for more than a century it has been the most debatable with disreputable issues in the field.
Svara and Overeem (2006), state that the dichotomy expands and contracts, rises and falls but never
goes away, that is to say that the heat may wear off once in a while but the debate is always there and
has never been forgotten, it is one of the primary debates of public administration. The dichotomy was
not a construct until the late 1940s which is when it became an important issue of literature in public
administration (Tahmasebi and Musavi, 2011:131). Many scholars have traced this construct back to
Woodrow Wilson who is also known as the Godfather of Public Administration, who according to

Cubs Curse Essay
English 102
Research Paper
What is a curse? A curse could be defined as anything negative wished upon a person or place. So is it
possible that an entire franchise be cursed? Well this is the case for one Major League baseball club,
the Chicago Cubs. It has been over 100 years, 1908, since the Cubs have won the World Series. With
many many great teams since then and no World Championships, is it too much to think that maybe,
just maybe this franchise, is cursed? Well from the Billy goat in 1945 to the black cat in 1969 and
Steve Bartman in 2003, many unfortunate events have occurred that have led many to believe that in
fact the Chicago Cubs franchise is cursed. Cub pride was at its height in 1945. The war was over, the

The Mets won both games, and the Cubs left New York with a record of 84 58 just ½ game in front.
Disaster followed in Philadelphia, as a 99 loss Phillies team nonetheless defeated the Cubs twice, to
extend Chicago s losing streak to eight games. In a key play in the second game, on September 11,
Cubs starter Dick Selma threw a surprise pickoff attempt to third baseman Ron Santo, who was
nowhere near the bag or the ball. Selma s throwing error opened the gates to a Phillies rally.
After that second Philly loss, the Cubs were 84 60 and the Mets had pulled ahead at 85 57. The Mets
would not look back. The Cubs eight game losing streak finally ended the next day in St. Louis, but
the Mets were in the midst of a ten game winning streak, and the Cubs, wilting from team fatigue,
generally deteriorated in all phases of the game. The Mets would go on to win the World Series. The
Cubs, despite a respectable 92 70 record, would be remembered for having lost a remarkable 17½
games in the standings to the Mets in the last quarter of the season.
Some superstitious fans attribute the Cubs collapse to an incident at Shea Stadium on September 9: a
black cat (an omen of bad luck) walked behind the Cubs on deck circle. Some fans blame key errors
by center fielder Don Young and captain Ron Santo s immediate. Still others blame the number of day

Common Law And Equity Law
COMMON LAW AND EQUITY
Introduction
During the 12th and 13th century, a survey was conducted on tradition, custom and law under the
common law system of England. This survey originally developed as court decisions. In England, the
equity laws are developed after the creation of the common law. The analysis based on development
of justice and is now used in the royal courts. This gives us the story of the 1066 when the England
was attacked and concluded that there is no common law system, but the local court system. It is
called the power of traditional dishes such as Shires and counties. The foundations of the common law
have known in public as customary law. In this assignment, me the author will describe the
development of the UK system of common Law and Equity. Arguments about judge s role in the
development of legal principles will be made.
The Common Law
During the conquest in 1066, William applied old legal customs in generalizing to the entire kingdom.
It was the origin of the Common Law; the essential characteristic was that it was rooted deeply in
Roman law to be based on the customs and practices from medieval traditions. These customs are still
mainly oral; procedures are carried out by royal courts who judge case leaving significant room for
interpretation. Gradually, the common law is insufficient and ineffective for a number of disputes.
The Equity
Individuals appeal directly to the king, arguing the fairness of their problems. This procedure, called

In this study, we investigated the relationship between life regard, perceived social support, HIV

Mark Twain s The San Francisco Earthquake
San Francisco is a historic city on the coast of California. It is known throughout history for
experiencing many earthquakes, as it sits next to the San Andreas fault which runs up and down the
state. The city becomes the setting for Mark Twain s narrative essay, The San Francisco Earthquake
which recounts the events of an earthquake known as the great earthquake. In the ensuing disaster,
Twain does not direct his focus on the destruction of the city as much as he does on the people s
reactions. Through his writing, Twain wants to show that when faced with terror, people will resort to
mindless and silly behavior.
Twain begins his essay by saying, I enjoyed my first earthquake. A sarcastic tone is created through
this statement, as normally one would not find joy in experiencing an earthquake. Throughout the
essay, Twain describes the actions of the people with similar sarcasm and exaggeration. When he
describes a woman carrying a child who was running ...down the street holding it by the ankles as if it
were a dressed turkey, this imagery of the child is funny, but it also implies that the women is in such a
state of panic that she is not thinking clearly and does not notice the way she is holding her child. ...

With consolidation an era of concentration began. With fewer companies owning more they were able
to share resources and become more effective in their reporting. This efficiency carried over with

The invention of the Internet took its toll on the newspaper industry. The availability of news became
widely available to a much larger audience. The printed newspaper at first faced severe cut backs due
to advertising teetering off and paid subscriptions declining. In order to counter these losses the
printed newspaper transitioned into the online newspaper. In addition, with this online newspaper they

King Henry Viii
During the Wars of Roses, a European royal house of Welsh origins rose to power, a dynasty, which
rules England for the next one hundred and eighteen years. The powerful and most well known
dynasty is the House of Tudor. Henry VII became king in 1485 and took Elizabeth of York as his
wife. They had four children Prince Arthur of Wales, Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII, and Mary Tudor.
Henry VIII was born June 28, 1491 at the Palace of Placentia in Greenwich. Being the second born
son Henry was raised and educated to take a secular role in life, most likely as the Archbishop of
Canterbury. His grandmother Margaret Beaufort supervised his early childhood education. Henry was

This rocky reign begins with him receiving a license from Pope Julius II granting him the marriage to
Catherine of Aragon, his brother s widow. Together on June 24, 1509, they are crowned King and
Queen. The first two years of Henry VIII s reign is filled with lack of interest in governmental affairs
allowing his advisor Thomas Wosley to increase his influence over England. Eventually he becomes
interested in holding power when shifting alliances in the west catch his eye. He then took an interest
in his navy building it up to 53 ships, which took quite a bit of money. This took up most of his early
reign and left the end with leaving the country in a religious mix up for years to come. As we know,
his first wife was the humble and always loyal Catherine of Aragon. They met when they were
adolescences, and married later on to create a powerful alliance, a surplus of wealth, and maybe even
for love. However, that was not enough to keep Henry VIII faithful after many pregnancies that left
them with only one child who survived. That child was Mary born in February 1516. The other
children had been miscarriages except for two boys. Sadly, though neither baby lived through infancy.
Talk of divorce stirred about since before Princess Mary s birth. However, with her birth brought new
hope that a male heir was still possible. The divorce was delayed until it was certain she could never

Quotes For The Outlaw
Society has always secretly rooted for The Outlaw . Whether it be in a book or a movie, we are drawn
to the danger in the bad guys. What exactly does it take to be considered an outlaw in American
society though? A person who does things because they think they are doing something to better
humans, they are trying to protect themselves, and they are trying to get revenge on someone who did
them wrong. People are so drawn to our outlaws because it gives us a thrill to watch someone do
something we wish we could but don t because it s not in the norm of society. In the book All Souls
there are numerous outlaw figures but many movies over time have been centered around the outlaw
theme which I will talk about because it shows how much society loves a good Robin Hood tale.
The biggest outlaw in history, Jesus Christ, is the most popular example of how much we love the
outsider. The story of how God sent his only son down to Earth to realise mankind of their sins,
whether religious or not, is a well known tale. Coming to Earth and telling the Romans that their
religion was wrong and that they all were going to Hell if they did not change was something that had
never been done before. He traveled throughout Israel trying to convert people to a whole new religion
to help mankind. He was seen as crazy and as a threat for a long time but he thought he was helping
humans from becoming corrupt. This fits my definition of an outlaw precisely, Jesus believed he was
helping but for a

Romeo and Juliet can be one of the most controversially plays spoken about. This magnificent work of
Shakespeare has readers keenly attached to the story evaluating the slightest of actions that contribute
to the results. The play holds many events that are argued about but the biggest controversy that
Shakespeare voluntarily implements in his play are the cause and contributions that lead up to the
death of the two lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. The firsts person who contributed to the

The Rube Goldberg Project, assigned by my science teacher to instigate creativity and out of the box
thinking, brought out the ingenuity in all of us. Our task was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that
was capable of ringing a desk bell. Individually or in groups, we had to build the machine and present
it to the class. This task seemed moderately simple, but in truth, it was much more complicated than
any of us had realized. Specific requirements needed to be met that further hardened the project.
However, by studying Rube Goldberg s life, his cartoons, and his machine, we were able to tackle the

A Sociological View of Rastafarianism
Organized religion is a duality between the religion and the church which represents it. Sometimes the
representation of the religion is marred and flawed to those who view it because of the bureaucracy
contained within. Unknown to those who gaze upon the dissolved morals and values of what is
perceived to be the contradiction known as modern religion, it was never intended to be this way.
Most religions started off as a sect, a minor detail on the fringes of the society it never wanted to
represent. Rastfarianism is such a sect. The differences between Rastafarianism and a normal
mainstream religion are numberless, including: no set membership, no authoritative leader, no offices

Rastafarianism was more than a religion to the people of Jamaica, it was a hope. It was their escape
from the the rational everyday world. This theodicy of suffering, in which the underprivileged and
underrepresented Jamaicans believed, was compensation for the deplorable state in which they found
themselves. The Rastafarian way of living and their everyday activities began as a deviant social
behavior, but rather was a routinization of the masses into one cohesive unit, following the same
general creed under different principles. This point can be seen most specifically in the modern
Rastafarian hairstyles. In traditional Rastafarianism most Rastas do not cut their hair but allow it to
grow naturally long matted strands or locks. These locks are in accordance with the Leviticus 21:5:
They shall not make baldness upon their head (Johnson Hill 25). But in today s Rastafarianism, their

society, but still believe in the faith of and consider themselves a part of the Rastafarian religion. This

Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior
Predicting Voting Behavior
Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these
being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up
these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime
etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible
result of an imminent election.
Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might

seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections
because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the

middle class voters.
Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing
it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or
position in society.
Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen

choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of
women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two

In response to this, the side of Germany under control of the Soviet Union became the German
Republic of Germany, also known as West Germany. This was one of the first steps that would divide
Germany for almost 30 years.
The German Communist Party began restricting East German s ability to travel to the West in 1949
(Levy 13). Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the
border of East and West Germany. However, Eastern Germans still found a way to escape to the
western side of Germany. The most popular way of escape was known as the five cent subway ride to
freedom. There was a subway system in Berlin that linked it s Eastern and Western sides together. For
five cents, eastern Germans would take the train from East Germany to West Germany. Then that
person would slip through the border or take a plane or bus out. According to Debbie Levy, during the
first six months of 1961, 160,000 Germans had escaped from the East to the West. From 1949 to 1961,
more than three million Germans had escaped from the East to the West. This upset the Soviet

Determinism Vs. Free Will
Determinism is a doctrine suggesting that for every event there exist conditions that could cause no
alternative event. Free will is a philosophical term describing a particular sort of capacity of rational
agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives. Understandably, the dichotomy
between these two concepts is a topic philosophers have debated over for many years. As a result of
these debates, a number of alternative philosophical perspectives arguing for the existence of free will,
namely libertarianism and compatibilism, have emerged, existing in stark contrast to determinism. In
order to ascertain the extent to which free will is compatible with determinism, one must first consider
these different approaches to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their wills, which are believed to be freely gained, are actually the result of a causal chain originating
from birth. The fact that humans are governed by their genes and environment means that the ability to
make moral decisions as free agents is illusory. For these reasons, the hard determinist position, which
is a sound, science based theory, seems to be incompatible with the concept of free will. Diametrically
opposed to hard determinism is a philosophical viewpoint with which free will is closely compatible:
libertarianism. Proponents of this position, such as philosopher William James, maintain that humans
are all free and therefore, liable for their actions. When making a decision, people choose which path
to take, and (...) are as a result responsible for that choice . With this in mind, the testimony of our
direct, lived experience is what offers the most compelling grounds for this argument; according to
James, evidence of free will cannot be found through scientific study. Rather, the existence of free will
should be determined by the average person s assumption that personal freedom and responsibility are
valid concepts . In short, the argument that libertarians assert is that free will should be believed in
simply because the majority of the population believes in it. The existence of freedom will most likely

are often seen as an alternative mode of transportation a cleaner and more environmentally conscious
form of travel. Because of this, it may be difficult to realize the incredible modernizing effects that

the future possibilities of bicycles: when roads are dry and firm it runs on a plain at the rate of 8 to 9

(Smith, 1972, pp 4)
The next major development came with the acquisition of pedals. In 1855, the first bicycle with
pedals, the velocipede, was invented and became briefly popular when it was brought to the United
States. Because of the ride provided by its iron tires and wooden frame, the velocipede became known
as the Boneshaker. The excitement around the velocipede died off within a few years, however, as it
proved to be difficult to ride, expensive, and dangerous.
During the second half of the 19th century, most of the major improvements were made that allowed
for the invention of modern bicycles. An iron frame rather than a wooden one, rubber tires (solid
rubber, however), rubber coated pedals and steel rims were all developed during this time. Although
the new bicycles, known as Ordinaries, had one wheel much larger than the other, were difficult to
mount and dismount, had no brakes, and were expensive, they became much more popular than any of
the previous ancestral bicycles. They were promoted on the basis that they provided exercise to the

The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay
For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its
early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While
Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it.
Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a
clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal with
Christianity in the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe aggression
towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw the expulsion
of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description of the desecration
of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by the churches located
nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those that proclaimed the faith
and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten, grilled, mauled by animals,
and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such gory damage to the seemingly
peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also provides an answer. Although it is
slightly ambiguous as to what sparked the outburst, it hints the possible reasons on why they were
targeted. What started out as misconceptions grew into fear, and then when the Christians

They would do this with the G.I. Bill for children, giving middle to low income households $1000 to

The Democratic Party called for a balanced budget by the year 2002 in the 1996 presidential election,

Examples Of Archetypes In Carl Jung
The book starts with the world that is full of wizard and magic. The first impression that the main
character gave me is that the character is wild but naive. For example, Ged s first action where he tries
to mimic his aunt s magic which caused him to stand out. His innocent and not knowing mind cause
many to be fearful of him since he is powerful although he is just as ordinary as the others. In addition
to this, Ged is also somewhat lonely in which his mom died when he is young and that his older
siblings are all gone far away. He didn t really find much find when he entered the School for Wizard.
However, I think that these example for lonesome cause the character to be not caring and more wild

think about. For someone who has trouble with the concepts of numbers, everyday life could be
frustrating. Each year a small number of 3 to 6% of children are diagnosed with Dyscalculia also
known as Math Dyslexia (Aster Kucien, 2014). A lot of people with Dyscalculia have never been
diagnosed or do not even realize they have it. At this time there no known cause of Dyscalculia.
Numerical skills play a large role in our everyday routines, for someone who continuously has
difficulty in this area it would be easy to become really discouraged. Because it is still uncommon, it
is important that people learn and become more familiar with Dyscalculia, ... Show more content on

By giving the child graph paper it can help them to keep numbers lined up and organized in order to
complete the problem easier. Having the child read the problems aloud will benefit them by hearing
the problem in another way then just seeing it on paper. Allowing the child to use a calculator on their
math work will allow them to have some success and help them build their confidence in math.
Drawing out a math problem can benefit these children also because it is another way to look at it. If
the parent or teacher can incorporate something that the child is interested in such as frogs or spiders,
then they can draw the math problem out using pictures of those. This will keep the child interested
and more willing to participate. These strategies and interventions are also ideas that can help other
students who may not have Dyscalculia because they can be used for the whole class therefore one
child does not have to feel singled out. A child with Dyscalculia does not have to feel like they are
doomed, there are many interventions that teachers and parents can learn to help them have success in
math and eventually feel comfortable with the

Idealism In Candide

Candide
Oct, 2014 Being a young man raised in a fine castle of the Baron, Candide had no idea of what a real
life is outside of the caste. In that place, he was surrounded by his needs, including his lover
Cundegonde and a great mentor Pangloss. Once he was abandoned from his fine castle, he had
separated from his Cundegone and had to face the brutal life on his journey to find his lover. However,
Candide learned the idea of Pangloss, which is everything is for the best , he faces, hears, and lives
through the worst things of human existence on his journey. Every adventure he goes through with or
without the help of others, such as Cacambo, Martin, Pangloss, and an old woman, gives him ... Show

As for my opinion, I think the whole play Candide is pretty depressing, especially when our
protagonist tries to act like everything is fine just like Pangloss in some terrible situations. When he is
starting to think outside of the box of optimism, he decides to bring twenty miserable people to his inn
and hears them all. After he heard all of them, he says, That Pangloss would be hard put to prove his
system. I wish he were here. Certainly, if everything goes well, it is in Eldorado and not in the rest of
the world. Candide is being pessimistic in this part and it is a sign he is gaining his insight. Believing
against his beliefs must be a hard step, but Candide suffered and heard enough to handle the

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative
RGGI Overview
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cap and trade initiative set to regulate and reduce
the emissions of greenhouse gases from power generating facilities with an electrical capacity equal or
greater than 25 electrical megawatts (RGGI, 2015). The drafting of this initiative started in 2003 when
Connecticut (CT), Delaware (DE), Maine (ME), Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH), New
Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Rhode Island (RI), and Vermont (VT) showed interest in reviewing
greenhouse gas emissions and a cap trade coalition to address the emission from power plants in their
territory. In 2005, the above mentioned states with the exception of RI and MA signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) that outlined the model rules for the program. Some of the topics outlined in
RGGI Model Rule include: the responsibilities of the account representatives, permitting
recommendations, monitoring requirements, compliance certification reports, control periods and
others. The Model Rules were also the building blocks used to develop state specific regulations
supporting the goals and actions necessary to succeed as a member. In 2007 MA, RI and MD also
signed the MOU (RGGI, 2015a; RGGI, 2015b). On January 1, 2012, RGGI lost one of its founding
members after the governor of NJ; Chris Christie withdrew NJ s support to the initiative. Throughout
its participation, NJ received over $100 million in revenues directly from the RGGI markets. (Christie,
2011) The

This could have major ramifications for the town of Makenzie with respect to population and industry.
Prince George is the largest city in the Northern Regions of BC. It boasts a population of
approximately 77,000 and has all the amenities of a big city. Wood drives the local economy, with
forestry, plywood manufacture, 12 sawmills and three pulp mills as major employers and customers
(City of Prince George, 2014). Vanderhoof is a smaller town about 100 kilometres outside of Prince
George. Its main industries are ranching and Forestry (Gerry, 2014). Skeena region The Skeena

What Caused The 981 Airplane Crash
March 3, 1974 a catastrophe occurred outside of Paris. Turkish Airlines flight 981 out of Paris
experienced a chain reaction of unfortunate events, that lead to the eventual crash of the plane, and the
complete fatality of every passenger on board the plane. The DC 10 aircraft, designed by the plane
company McDonnell Douglas, crashed in a forest 10 minutes after taking off from Paris. People who
have analyzed this accident, have looked into what caused this plane to crash and take the life of all
346 passengers on board? Among the analysts are three different types of accident theories that try to
explain why the plane crashed and how the crash could have been avoided and spared the life of
hundreds. The High Reliability Organization (HRO), Natural Accident Theory (NAT), and Social
Technical, are the three theories that are used to explain what causes accidents happen and how ...

10 minutes after take off the cargo door on the underside of the plane opened and got ripped off. The
cause for this was the locking pins that were supposed to lock in the latch on the plane locked, but the
latch had not latched onto the bar so the plane s cargo door was not locked and due to the g force on
the plane during takeoff and ascent into the sky the door was compromised. This event caused a chain
reaction of events to occur. After this happened the pressure from the outside acclimated with the
cargo bay which caused there to be too much of a pressure differential between the cargo bay and the
cabin. This caused the floor of the cabin to collapse, which then broke all three of the control cables.
With all the cables torn and broken the pilot lost control of the plane. The plane then crashed and
caused everyone on board to die. The overall crash of the DC 10 could have been avoided had specific
points of failure throughout the plane been fixed by an

perfect role model, inspiring many athletes, Lance Armstrong was driven to be the very best. He

Anne Bradstreet And Puritan Writing Style
Faith has played an incredibly large role throughout all of American history. This is shown especially
in early America when the Puritans settled in North America. Writing in this time period shows just
how prominent faith is in this time period, as much of it directly alludes to the Bible. Throughout the
time period writing and beliefs evolved. This is highly noticeable when comparing American poet
Anne Bradstreet, and clergyman Jonathan Edwards. Bradstreet s works include poems such as To My
Dear and Loving Husband , and Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 and while Edwards
wrote many sermons, the most famous is Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . These works differ
in many ways, but many comparisons and contrasts can be made in regards to writing style and beliefs
presented in these works.
The first major difference between these two writers is the major difference in their writing styles.
Though both are undoubtedly Puritan in style they hold many differences in how they write, and what
they write about. Anne Bradstreet s writing is seen as rather basic in it s composition and rhyme
scheme. The writing is in stanzas, much like other poetry, and the rhyme is a very basic AA B B
scheme, in To My Dear and Loving Husband she writes, If ever two were one, then surely we./If ever
man loved her wife, then thee; ( lines 1 2) these opening lines illustrate the simplicity in her writing.
Contrast this to the opening lines of Sinners in the Hands of an

  • 2. Firdaus Flat Or Round Characters To establish of whether Firdaus is a flat character or a round one, we would first have to come to terms with the multiple, overlapping network of knowledges which continuously disrupt any singular reading of her. What I mean by this is that Firdaus, the text which she resides in, and the author that has produced her are situated within discourse the West (and the East as its ideological shadow), the Arab world (specifically Egypt), and the feminist subject that both strive to produce; that these discourses work in many ways to contest each other brings into question of their validity. • 3. College Is The Best Year Of Your Life College is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. My first semester at college did not fit that description. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit. The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors. Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls really were. It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, Castro was not only focused on his family but the families of his victims; Castro inserted himself into neighborhood searches for Amanda and Gina, trying to lower any suspicions or possibility of suspicion, as he pretended that he too was looking for the missing girls. However, Castro was finally caught in 2013, 11 years after his first kidnapping. He was caught when he accidentally left the door slightly open, allowing Amanda to call for help; Nearby neighbors ran to her aid by kicking open the door and helping her out, 911 was quickly called and police were shortly dispatched. When police arrived they entered Castro s home finding Michelle and Gina upstairs, and shortly after that Castro was hunted down and taken into custody. • 7. Temperature Break Lab TJ November 7, 2017 Period 3 Heat Fracture on Rocks Background Heat fracture is when an increase in volume is observed, due to an increase in temperature. Simply meaning that while a material is being heated, the rise in temperature causes it to take up more space. Heat fracture doesn t only deal with high temperatures, it also deals with the effects of cooling on a material. If cooling occurs then the opposite of expansion occurs as well, the material will begin to shrink or decrease in size. Continuous heating and cooling will eventually lead to stress and that makes the material break or fracture. It was believed that if the amount of time that the rock went through heating and cooling increased, then the weight of the rock would decrease because while the rock goes through more heating and cooling eventually it will fracture causing the weight to decrease. This is called heat fracture. The data gathered did prove the hypothesis to be correct. For the longer trials with more minutes, the rock s weight did decrease more rather than the shorter amount of trials. For example, the one minute trial barely had a 0.6g difference proving our hypothesis correct, while the 15 minute trial had a significant change in the rock s weight due to the longer time experiment. The graph seemed to gradually increase according to the longer trials. The only outlier was the last trial because it had such a small change compared to the other trials, although all trials did support the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Jacques Louis David Essay David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with tradition, and from this break modern art is dated. David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His pursuit of the antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He borrowed classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he mistakenly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible. Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed. He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class . When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual neoclassical style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on Roman sculpture. His famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the new neoclassical style in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Innate Evil In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of young British boys crash on a deserted island. Throughout the story, there are three significant situations that demonstrate the theme stating that civilization can mitigate but never wipe out the innate evil that exists within all human beings. The three situations are the first pig hunt, the torture of Robert, and the attempted murder of Ralph. First of all, the hunt of the very first piglet is a demonstration of the boys civil habits that are still engraved in them from their home lives. Ralph, Jack, and Simon are on their hunt for their first pig on the island when they come across squealing sounds that lead them to their prey. After they stare at the piglet for a while, they have the chance to kill it but Jack decides against it. Jack didn t want to kill the piglet because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into live flesh; because of the unbearable blood (Golding 29). Jack attempts to cover up his reasoning by saying that he was thinking of a good spot to stab the pig, though Ralph and Simon knew why he hadn t. The boys were still living in a civil society on the island as they had a leader, rules, and they all got along for the most part, so the thought of killing a pig was terrifying and unrealistic for Jack. Evidently, Jack is embarrassed in front of the boys because he did not kill their chance at food. During a meeting later that day, the other boys are asking about the pigs on the island, and Jack and Ralph are explaining why they couldn t kill it. Jack interrupts Ralph, and tells the boys that the pig ran away Before I could kill it but next time (Golding 31)! Jack says this in an aggressive tone as he is defending himself and proving he is more than capable to get them meat. The boys have not yet adapted to a life filled with chaos and savagery, so they are still hesitant about harming animals since they never had experienced anything like that back in England. However, the boys attitudes towards bloodletting start to become more realistic as their lives on the island progress to a life of evil. Furthermore, the torture of Robert showcases the transition from good to evil and civilized to savagery in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Anger And Forgiveness In The Film Smoke Signals In the film Smoke Signals written by Sherman Alexie, anger and forgiveness play a major part in the lives of the Native Americans who live in the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. Forgiving oneself or forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie the changes that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have overcome with anger and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph, Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film where offering forgiveness would hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of the characters actually reach inner peace? Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the physical abuse him and his mother were subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds the fire because of their differing views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and is very forgiving is Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has lost the most at the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a happy go lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others. Interesting enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t easy for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he eventually finds peace. The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho, but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The movie begins on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. It quickly advances to 1998 when the boys are grown, but, shows excerpts from the past throughout the movie as they reminisced. The Reservation is portrayed well, showing how Native American societies lived and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well this is the case for one Major League baseball club, the Chicago Cubs. It has been over 100 years, 1908, since the Cubs have won the World Series. With many many great teams since then and no World Championships, is it too much to think that maybe, just maybe this franchise, is cursed? In a key play in the second game, on September 11, Cubs starter Dick Selma threw a surprise pickoff attempt to third baseman Ron Santo, who was nowhere near the bag or the ball. Selma s throwing error opened the gates to a Phillies rally. After that second Philly loss, the Cubs were 84 60 and the Mets had pulled ahead at 85 57. The Mets would not look back. The Cubs eight game losing streak finally ended the next day in St. Louis, but the Mets were in the midst of a ten game winning streak, and the Cubs, wilting from team fatigue, generally deteriorated in all phases of the game. The Mets would go on to win the World Series. The Cubs, despite a respectable 92 70 record, would be remembered for having lost a remarkable 17½ games in the standings to the Mets in the last quarter of the season. • 28. Rube Goldberg Project Research Paper The Rube Goldberg Project, assigned by my science teacher to instigate creativity and out of the box thinking, brought out the ingenuity in all of us. Our task was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that was capable of ringing a desk bell. Individually or in groups, we had to build the machine and present it to the class. This task seemed moderately simple, but in truth, it was much more complicated than any of us had realized. Specific requirements needed to be met that further hardened the project. However, by studying Rube Goldberg s life, his cartoons, and his machine, we were able to tackle the challenge presented, including forging a team that would persevere through many challenges. The spiral, mousetrap, gear, tubing, car, zip ties, cardboard, wood, pegboard, dowel rods, and hot glue were all provided by me. Zac provided the marbles, pegboard hooks, wire, and string. Team unity helped build my team s project into something we both were proud of; hence, a great deal of time went into the creation of the project. Sometimes the representation of the religion is marred and flawed to those who view it because of the bureaucracy contained within. Most religions started off as a sect, a minor detail on the fringes of the society it never wanted to represent. Rastfarianism is such a sect. The Rastafarian way of living and their everyday activities began as a deviant social behavior, but rather was a routinization of the masses into one cohesive unit, following the same general creed under different principles. This point can be seen most specifically in the modern Rastafarian hairstyles. In traditional Rastafarianism most Rastas do not cut their hair but allow it to grow naturally long matted strands or locks. These locks are in accordance with the Leviticus 21:5: They shall not make baldness upon their head (Johnson Hill 25). This was one of the first steps that would divide Germany for almost 30 years. The German Communist Party began restricting East German s ability to travel to the West in 1949 (Levy 13). Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the border of East and West Germany. However, Eastern Germans still found a way to escape to the western side of Germany. The most popular way of escape was known as the five cent subway ride to freedom. There was a subway system in Berlin that linked it s Eastern and Western sides together. For five cents, eastern Germans would take the train from East Germany to West Germany. Free will is a philosophical term describing a particular sort of capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives. Understandably, the dichotomy between these two concepts is a topic philosophers have debated over for many years. As a result of these debates, a number of alternative philosophical perspectives arguing for the existence of free will, namely libertarianism and compatibilism, have emerged, existing in stark contrast to determinism. Their wills, which are believed to be freely gained, are actually the result of a causal chain originating from birth. The fact that humans are governed by their genes and environment means that the ability to make moral decisions as free agents is illusory. For these reasons, the hard determinist position, which is a sound, science based theory, seems to be incompatible with the concept of free will. Diametrically opposed to hard determinism is a philosophical viewpoint with which free will is closely compatible: libertarianism. Proponents of this position, such as philosopher William James, maintain that humans are all free and therefore, liable for their actions. When making a decision, people choose which path to take, and (...) are as a result responsible for that choice . With this in mind, the testimony of our direct, lived experience is what offers the most compelling grounds for this argument; according to James, evidence of free will cannot be found through scientific study. Rather, the existence of free will should be determined by the average person s assumption that personal freedom and responsibility are valid concepts . In short, the argument that libertarians assert is that free will should be believed in simply because the majority of the population believes in it. The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it. Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal with Christianity in the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe aggression towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw the expulsion of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description of the desecration of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by the churches located nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those that proclaimed the faith and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten, grilled, mauled by animals, and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such gory damage to the seemingly peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also provides an answer. Although it is slightly ambiguous as to what sparked the outburst, it hints the possible reasons on why they were targeted. What started out as misconceptions grew into fear, and then when the Christians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
