Existential Nihilism In Gwen Harwood s Poetry
The awareness we have of our own mortality, the limitations of our flesh, bound only to our nature
through subjective perceptions of value and worth has thus far been the driving force behind
philosophy and its exploration of the human experience. My interpretation of Gwen Harwood s poetry,
through the two examples Triste, Triste and At Mornington , is that it appeals to the key concepts of
existentialism, namely Despair, and the Other . Through addressing these key concepts, Harwood s
poetry contends the notions of existential nihilism. In turn, the human experiences of loss and
consolation are authenticated through her poetic exploration of the concrete and the abstract realms
within those key concepts. Although the statement concerning ... Show more content on

Harwood explores the intersubjectivity between the individual and the Other throughout At
Mornington through the use of inclusive pronouns, such as we . The line from stanza two, by your
parents grave in silence expresses the potency of the individual s empathy. The silence represents the
acknowledgement of the Other, through nonverbally inhabiting the same space. This representation of
the comfort of another being, conveys the extent of the acknowledgement, and contends the notions of
existential nihilism through the implicit values of dasein . The last stanza of the poem contains the line
the peace of this day will shine , this line reflects on the consequences of death. We have one day, only
one the epanaleptic repetition of one emphasises the finite nature of our life and suggests an assertive
tone to the statement. The motif of the day represents the lifetime of the individual; the metaphor of
the day represents the cyclic nature of life and alludes to the biblical notion of death and resurrection.
The cyclical representation of life and death symbolises the transition from loss to consolation,
through the acknowledgement of the other, and through the developed acceptance of the individual s

Terrorism And Political Aspects Of Terrorism In The Media
One of the most spoken topics in the media today is terrorism besides any other type of violence.
What is terrorism, everyone has a different version in their dictionary. Some blame a whole nation for
terrorism, some blame a whole religious group for the actions of only a few. As we know the word
terror means extreme fear. A terrorist is someone who creates an atmosphere filled with fear amongst
the people that are there. They go against rules and ethics and do very disturbing things which is
called terrorism. Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, this type of violence is
used especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. They kill innocent people or
government/state/or city officials who oppose their wants. The purpose of the actions the terrorists
have is to create an atmosphere of fear to suit their wants. Terrorists murder and kidnap people, set off
bombs, hijack airplanes, set fires, and commit other serious crimes. But the goals of terrorists differ
from those of ordinary criminals. Most criminals want money or some other form of personal gain.
Most terrorists commit crimes to support political causes. Features of terrorism. Terrorist acts are
committed for various reasons.
They often threaten to kill the hostages if their demands are not met. Some terrorism involves the
intentional release of toxic chemicals, poisons, or other harmful substances. Bombings makeup about
half of all terrorist acts. Terrorism may cross national

Essay On Vertical Integration
Vertical and Horizontal Integration of Health Systems in Various Regions
In the health care system, various integration strategies involve services to improve the delivery of
care. However, these services include a vertical and horizontal integrated health system that will help
organizations increase market share, become more diversified, and achieve cost advantages by using
existing operation to offer new products or services (Shi Singh, 2015).
Vertical Integrated Health Systems
For example, Florida Hospital, who is a member of the Adventist Health System, is a vertically
integrated health care system that first started in 1908 with a small group of Seventh Day Adventists
(Florida Hospital System, 2017). It is known as one of the largest not for profit healthcare
organizations in the country with 22 campuses throughout Florida (Florida Hospital System, 2017).
Florida Hospital has tremendously expanded that it provides various services in cancer, orthopedics,
gynecology, cardiac, rehab, pediatric medicine and more (Florida Hospital System, 2017). However, it

The Federalist And Republican Parties
American history is so full of wonderful, enticing things. A few of those enticing things include the
First Continental Congress and the Second Continental Congress and how they came to be through the
events leading up to them. Another captivating piece of our history is that of the formation of the
Constitution along with the interesting factors and characteristics that go along with it. Finally, we
have the emergence of the Federalist and Republican Parties. It is important to have an understanding
of these important historical events and people so that we can fully appreciate the nation that we now
refer to today as the land of opportunities and of great achievement. There were many issues that had

The merchants were also fairly outraged because they saw this as a monopoly for the selling of tea in
the colonies. So, colonists were infuriated and refused to allow the East India Company tea to be
shipped into the colonies. They saw this as their most effective form of resistance to the taxation. In
fact, the Sons of Liberty began to threaten the shippers who had to bring the tea into the colonies.
There was a particular event in Boston that captured the Parliament s attention. On December 16,
1773 an organized band of men who had disguised themselves as Indians, rushed onto the Dartmouth
ship along with two other ships and began to empty 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor. This
allowed for the loss of nine thousand pounds (approximately eighteen thousand U.S. dollars) of profit
for the British East India Company and is known as the Boston Tea Party. Similar events occurred in
Annapolis, Maryland in 1774 where the residents forced merchants to burn their own ships. While this
was event was awful, it was the Boston Tea Party that inspired the Parliament s angry reaction. The
reaction drawn from the Parliament was the Intolerable Acts which can be known as an American term
for both the Quebec and Coercive Acts. The Coercive Act was created in the spring of 1774. This act
included the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act,
and the Quartering Act. The Boston Port Act was first effective on June 1, 1774. This act closed

Monsters In Horror
Monsters in Horror Horror as a genre has been around for centuries, installing itself into diverse and
new areas of our entertainment to keep itself relevant. The horror genre as a whole feeds off our fears
and our imagination, which often leads us to be hyper vigilant of our surroundings. The entirety of the
horror genre is a multimillion dollar industry, with horror films accumulating about 5% in market
shares over the past 15 years. Films such as World War Z (2013) grossed approximately $202,000,000,
with other popular films such as What Lies Beneath (2000) grossing $155,000,000, and Gremlins

Catharsis was theorized by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, in which he believed we purge our
negative emotions and thoughts via the portrayal of other situations and circumstances (Walters,
2004). By viewing violent and graphic footage, which is often what horror films consist of, it is
believed that the person will purge their violent tendencies and thoughts while watching a horror film,
resulting in a lower likelihood of acting on violent tendencies. However, it has equally been posited
that such graphic images will increase the aggressive tendencies in the viewer (Walters, 2004). So,
although catharsis is a theory of why we watch horror films, there is no way to discern whether there
is a correlation or not between watching horror films and lowering one s aggression or vice

The Relationship Between Economic Globalization And Labor...
The relationship between economic globalization and labor market power provides empirical trends in
world average and the world equality through structural bargaining power and associated power,
thereby allowing workers to achieve convergence across nations (Mahutga). What labor market power
does for economic globalization is that it increases the probability of labor internationalism through
two models, namely, the structural model and the institutional model. Beverly Sliver, Tamara Kay,
Nita Rudra, and Matthew Mahutga provide different theories and data, breaking down the trends of
labor power and labor movement on a global scale.
The labor movement began during the industrial revolution and exists because of worker employer
relationships and working conditions, thus providing the landscape for labor power (Mahutga). Labor
power can be broken down into associational power and structural bargaining power. Mahutga s
Lecture on Globalization and Labor builds on Beverly Sliver s argument on the Forces of Labor and
Tamara Kay s argument on Labor Transnationalism and Global Governance about what Labor market
power and Labor Transnationalism mean as regards labor on a global scale (Mahutga, Kay). Is it
creating better standards for the working and living conditions of workers? Associational power
results in collective workers ability to unionize and organize to present one opposing voice. Structural
bargaining power results from the workers place in the economic system,

The Debate Over The Internet
The Internet in the year 2009. We send e mails, make calls over the internet and discuss topics we take
an interest in. Even our banking is going virtual. But what we take for granted today was only a vague
idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to 1957, when everything
began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is called batch processing. Of
course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and bigger they had to be stored in
special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly on the computers anymore
specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that time meant a lot of manual work
and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs, wasting time and fraying the
developers´ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote connection had to be installed so
the developers could work directly on the computers. At the same time the idea of time sharing came
up. This is the first concept in computer technology to share the processing power of one computer
with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik
1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The fear of a Missile Gap emerged. In order to secure
America s lead in technology, the US founded the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in
February 1958. At that time, knowledge was only transferred by people. The DARPA planned a

Colonial Apothecaries Essay
Colonial Research Project
Sarah Kong
February 26, 2018
Apothecary; noun a person who prepared and sold medicine and drugs. Have you ever wondered what
came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my
research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than
present day doctors and pharmacists.
In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared
and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold out many
different products.
Colonial apothecaries practiced as doctors, made house calls to treat patients, provided medical
treatment, prescribed medicine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are very similar. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona bark
for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and
quinidine for cardiac problems. But medical treatment was very expensive, so that led to the colonists
to self diagnose and treat their own problems.
Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they treated
themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. They were guided by folklore, or
(3. by books. To cure headaches, for example, the colonists often used a remedy that contained roses
and vinegar. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied topically.
In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were published
in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them survived. The
National Library of Medicine, the nation s largest medical library, published a bibliography of the
eighteenth century books in its collection. Most of the 501 pages are titles of things such as medical
theory, midwifery, pharmacy, surgery, and diseases. Apothecaries were crucial to

Service For A Volunteer At United Hospital
Service means giving back to a community that has made me the person I am today. It means being
selfless, and doing something that benefits someone other than me. Service is more than doing work
that you are obligated to do without any reward; it is setting aside time in your busy schedule to make
a difference for the better. Service is not the work I would use to describe my work; volunteering is
more appropriate. A volunteer is defined as a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or
undertake a task. The key word is: offers. Any delinquent could do service; it takes selflessness and
passion to volunteer.
I was always interested in volunteering and helping others, but I did not get into it until I got involved
with the National Honor Society at my high school. The program required us to do at least 10 hours of
volunteering each semester. During the time, I was also in the process of becoming to be a volunteer at
United Hospital. I already had the ambition to do volunteer work, but now I had the opportunities to
actually do it. Volunteering at a hospital was not what I had expected it to be. To be honest, it was
quite boring, because it felt like I was just sitting around most of the time waiting to be needed. But
the feeling I got after volunteering made it all worth it. Knowing that I could have spent the day doing
something else, but choosing to be here and to actually make a difference have me a feeling of elation.
Same with the work I did with the

The Last King Of Scotland Essay
Despite all the sufferings and distorted decisions made throughout the film, The Last King of
Scotland, ethical behaviors are, in fact, evident as well. The Last King of Scotland is a film based on a
fictional story of Nicholas Garrigan. Characters within the film possess various qualities and make
certain decisions that inevitably proves their behaviors as ethical. Although there were extremely
dreadful and horrifying scenes that showed how monstrous people have the ability to be, with respect
to the ethicist, Aristotle, the ethical experience of obligation, as well as the teaching of the church of
the 8 beatitudes, it is conclusive that ethical behavior is evident in the film, The Last King of Scotland.

metaphysical viewpoint and his position as a poet in relation to the rest of society.

Either way it seems to me that DT is mourning our separation from the rest of creation.
Throughout the poem there is other various references to life and things generally associated with life.
In line 16 the lips of time leech to the fountain head , I think the phrase the fountain head is a
metaphor for the womb and the lips of time phrase serves as a reminder that life is only temporary and
the time in which life can be created by other living things is even shorter (e.g. women can only have
children up to a certain age). Generally the poem focuses on both this similarity between man and the
environment, and on one major difference humans have conscious self awareness plus the ability of
language and speech. This emphasises the irony that although people are physically one with the
universe, they are separated from it by intellectual consciousness.
The poem consists of five stanzas. Each of the stanzas are made up of five lines (except the last, which
has two lines). The 3rd line of each stanza is shorter than the two before and after it. I think DT has
purposely done this to make you stop whilst reading the poem and pay attention to what has just been
said. Also, each line of the poem is regular with the 4th line

Three Mile Island Essay
Three Mile Island
On March 28, 1979 a series of mechanical, electrical, and human failures led to what has been
described as the worst nuclear power plant accident in the history of the United States. News of the
accident rocked the nation, and its effects were keenly felt by those who lived in the shadow of the
great concrete towers of Three Mile Island.
The accident began about 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, when there was failure in the secondary, non
nuclear section of the plant. The main feedwater pumps stopped running, which was caused by either a
mechanical or electrical failure that prevented the steam generators from removing heat. First the

Because of these voids, the water in the system was redistributed and the pressurizer became full of
water. The level indicator, which tells the operator the amount of coolant capable of heat removal,
incorrectly showed the system was full of water. Because of this the operator stopped adding water.
He did not know that, because of the stuck valve, the indicator can provided false readings.
Because adequate cooling was not available, the nuclear fuel overheated to the point where some of
the zirconium cladding, the long metal tubes or jackets which hold the nuclear fuel pellets reacted with
the water and created hydrogen. This hydrogen was released into the reactor containment building. By
March 30, two days after the start of the chain of events, some hydrogen remained in the primary
coolant system in the vessel surrounding the reactor, forming a hydrogen bubble above the reactor
core. Officials were concerned that if reactor pressure decreased, the hydrogen bubble would expand
and therefore interfere with the flow of cooling water through the core. Over the next few days, the
bubble was reduced by degassing the pressurizer, meaning they adjusting air and water pressure.
Without water to cool it, and with the top of the reactor core uncovered, the main damage to the
reactor occurred two to three hours into the accident. Although no meltdown occurred, in

be strengthened are reaction time and social skills. Not only do video games enhance motor skills,
they can also teach the player a little bit of lessons learned in schools depending on the game.Video

History of Income Tax
Income tax is a vital source of funds to any government. Money raised by taxing the working
population can be used to fund infrastructure development as well as improving the standard of living
in the country. United Kingdom was the first the country to establish a working income tax on its
civilians in 1799. Initially implemented as a temporary source of income to fund the war to beat
Napoleon, income tax is now an essential source of revenue for the government all over the world.
This report will look at the significance of income tax in the UK since the late 18th century, through

Even though Sir Robert Peel was not in favour of income tax, he introduced income tax again in his
Budget of 1842 that was considered to be one of the most famous in the 19th century. Peel taxed
people earning above £150, this resulted in favour of the less wealthy people. Also under custom
duties there were 1200 articles, of which Peel reduced 750 articles on his budget. His taxation plan
was on action for a period of three years. But it was extended for another two years due to an increase
in the national expenditure, and also to help the national railways because the railway industry had
less money. When cheaper imports were available, Corn Laws were created which is a tariff on
imports. This helped the local farmers as they had a competitive advantage, but Peel repealed the Corn

income tax policy; instead he wanted to terminate it. He also believed that government spending
should be kept to a minimum level. Gladstone reduced the income tax exemptions from £150 to £100;
he thought that if more people pay then there would be a huge pressure form the public to repeal the
tax. But in order to fund the Crimean war, Gladstone

It Goes Into A Landfill
Most people don t think about where their trash goes after the garbage trucks empty the trash bins. It
goes into a landfill, which is a carefully engineered and managed structure and acts as a final disposal
option for waste ( Solid Waste Agency ). The purpose of a landfill is to bury trash in a way that it will
be isolated from groundwater, will be kept dry, and will not come into contact with air. Under these
conditions, the excess waste does not decompose very much (Freudenrich). Many objects that are
thrown into the trash, which end up into a landfill, can actually be recycled. 20% of the items in
landfills can be recycled, and another 25% are compostable, and a further 16% are recoverable
(Curiosity Quest). A total of 61% of the landfill can be diverted to better use.
Since most Americans don t know about what objects can be recycled, or just ignore the recycle
labels, the objects end up in a landfill. In the U.S, people produce about 4.6 pounds of trash per person
per day, which equates to 251 million tons of trash per year (Freudenrich). This is slightly less than all
the other countries trash combined (Alabama Environmental Council). Most of this trash is buried in a
landfill, and the rest is recycled, composted, and burned (Freudenrich). 81.8 million tons of trash in
2006 could have been recycled or composted, but were instead sent into a landfill (Freudenrich).
One of the significant products that contribute to the problem are textiles; most specifically shoes.

The Supernatural Element Of William Shakespeare s Macbeth
What is interesting is what each supernatural element represents in Shakespeare s society and in our
current society. The supernatural elements in Macbeth include fate, the witches, mythological beings,
ghosts, and apparitions. I believe that the witches in Shakespeare s time, in the play and in real life,
represent the power of choice. The power to be able to decide to commit murder or any other heinous
act or decide to let things naturally happen shows the classic choice between good and evil, but the
witches themselves are not evil. While they are viewed as treasonous in this time, that is simply
because they were believed to be associated with the devil and a threat to the king. In reality, Macbeth
is the evil one because of his actions. I would even argue that Macbeth was the one who sealed his
unfortunate fate once the king was murdered. Because of the downward spiral Macbeth, and even
Lady Macbeth, faces after the murders, his eventual insanity proves that the act he committed was in
fact evil because of the repercussions he faced. The repercussions themselves could be viewed as evil
because the supernatural evil could prove to be a better sanctioning mechanism than a punishing god
(Martinez, 334). I think this is comparable to our society today because of how the belief in fate itself
constitutes the belief of karma, either good or bad, in that a person gets what he or she deserves.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, I think, got what they deserved in the end. Moreover,

I Am Working For American Airlines
Abstract
This paper explores American Airlines pit falls that made it behind in the market and it imposes the

Volcanoes In Ecuador
Ecuador is a small country on the Pacific coast of South America. It is bisected laterally by the
equator, and longitudinally by the Andes. The Andes divide the country s mainland into three distinct
regions, the coast to the west, the mountains, and the rainforest to the east. The Ecuadorian Andes are
extremely volcanic, containings most of the active volcanoes in the Northern Andes Volcanic Zone. Of
these volcanoes, one of the most well known is Cotopaxi. Easily visible and recognizable from the
capital city of Quito, Cotopaxi is one of the most historically active volcanoes in the country, with
eruptions happening on average every 120 years (Aguilera, Pareschi, Rosi, and Zanchetta, 2004, p.

This week s readings investigate the rise of Islamic opposition and civic society groups in Egypt,
Turkey, and Algeria. In an overarching perspective, the readings contend that the failure of the post
colonial states in providing the public goods and services they were responsible for, as well as their
use of Islamist groups in order to crush the leftist opposition, provided political structures of
opportunity that the Islamic groups were able to exploit. In addition, the state hostility to civic society
Islamic opposition groups, gave rise to militant Islamic groups in some cases. The following
paragraphs will provide evidence from the texts to support the above assertions. Mobilizing Islam

This sector included private mosques, Islamic voluntary associations, as well is Islamic for profit

religious charity, Zakat, and was able to provide, at the local level, public goods and services that the
state failed to provide, such as schooling, day care, and health clinics (Wickham, 99). The regime
tolerated this sector because it did not pose a threat to it, and due to its contribution to social stability
in poor neighborhoods (Wickham, 104). The regime s tolerance toward Islamic groups in the mid
1970s, gave rise to the new generations of Islamists, who would later form part of the leadership of
both militant and reformist sections of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as other Islamic groups
(Wickham, 117). This indicates that the success of the MB in mobilizing public support was in great
part because they offered an alternative to the state s failure in providing the services it was supposed

contends that the support to Islamic groups in Algeria, was cultivated mainly due to the social welfare
functions such groups assumed (Tessler, 113). Islam constituted an alternative political

Summary Of The Circle Maker By Mark Batterson
The spiritual formation book that I chose to read was, The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your
Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears. Mark Batterson begins his book by telling a story about a guy
named Honi. Honi and his community were in the middle of a long drought. If rain did not come soon
to their land than lives were going to be in jeopardy. Honi began to draw a circle on in the sand. He
gets on his knees and begins to pray to Elijah for a torrential downpour of rain. He makes it clear to
God that he will not move from the circle he drew until he sends rain to his land. Lo and behold God

1. How abundant was oxygen in the early atmosphere?
The earth s early atmosphere contained only small amounts of free oxygen, produced by the reaction
of water vapor with sunlight. The oxygen rich atmosphere that developed later and on which oxygen
breathing life now depends was result of the origin and spread of organisms capable of
photosynthesis.
2. What evidence do scientists have that the oxygen content of our atmosphere has increased since the

3. What circumstances may have fostered the development of chains of amino acids and nucleotides?
The circumstances that may have played a part in the development of these chains were the conditions
in which they were formed. They formed in small ponds that periodically heated and dried, leaving
traces of these water molecules that would play a part in producing the chains.
4. What are the characteristics of the ancestors of living cells and what could they do ?
The ancestors of living cells, also known as the forerunners , were single celled, with a ring shaped
coil of DNA. They would gather into clumps, absorb smaller molecules, rearrange them, and released
them as waste products.

The Role Of Jesus In The Old Covenant
Many people don t appreciate change. They prefer to stay in their normal way of life, and enjoy their
routine. Unfortunately, life loves to throw curveballs and change is inevitable. Many people have
trouble accepting a new (way) of things and they cling to the old methods as long as they can. When
Jesus came to earth to die for everyone s sins, many Jewish people had struggles and doubts. They
were stuck in their old ways of worship that revolved around the temple, priests, and sacrifices, and
didn t believe Jesus was sufficient for forgiving their sins. Many converted believers began to wish for
the old way of life after Jesus ascended back to heaven and wondered whether or not Jesus was
actually the messiah. Leviticus goes into detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Old Covenant, people had to constantly sacrifice animals to cleanse their sins. These sacrifices,
just like the people, were imperfect and never completely took away their sin. They were a constant
reminder to God that the people were sinners, and he had not yet fulfilled his promise of sending his
son Jesus. (Insert Leviticus verse) Alternatively, Jesus was the fulfilling of God s promise and the end
to years of repeated sacrifices that never ultimately took away sin. Hebrews 9:12 says, He did not
enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the most Holy Place once for all by his
own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. And Hebrews 9: 28 says, so Christ was sacrificed once
to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation
to those who are waiting for him. The people who clung to the Old Covenant were dubious about this
once time sacrifice that eliminated all sins, because they didn t know whether it would be enough. The
author of Hebrews constantly encourages them to believe that the perfect blood of Jesus was the
ultimate sacrifice that would cleanse all sins

On top of the nasal cavity, lies the olfactory epithelium (mucous tissue that covers the cribriform plate
and contains the cilia necessary for olfactory receptors). The process starts when air enters the nasal
cavity and makes its way to the olfactory receptors. These olfactory receptors are located in the
olfactory epithelium and contain many bipolar neurons. These receptors send processes to the
epithelium where it divides into 10 to 20 cilia. Molecules of odor then must dissolve in the mucus and
stimulate the receptors in the cilia, which detect aromatic molecules. Next, each olfactory receptor cell
sends an axon into the olfactory bulb, which is located at the end of the olfactory tract. Here, it forms
synapse with dendrites of mitral cells (neurons of olfactory bulb), which takes place in the dendritic
and axonal aborizations, called the olfactory glomeruli. From there, the axons travel to the rest of the
brain, some terminating in the ipsilateral forebrain and contralateral olfactory bulb.
Furthermore, the axons of the olfactory tract project to either the amygdala, piriform cortex (region of
limbic cortex) and the entorhinal cortex (region of the limbic cortex). From the amygdala, information
then is sent to the hypothalamus. The entorhinal cortex sends its information to the hippocampus. The

Essay On The Beast In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies Essay
After experiencing events such as the horrors of World War II, William Golding represents the evil
nature of mankind as the Beast in his novel Lord of the Flies. Although an illusionary character, the
beast had the most influence in the development of savagery throughout the story. It is used to gain
power, it is the violence within the boys and it is a factor that drives them towards a tribe like form of
savagery.
Golding uses the Beast to help disrupt the balance of power within the island. Ralph s method of
dealing with things is democratic and revolves around the overall benefit of the group. This is shown
in many instances where he prioritises long term benefits over immediate ones such as when he
proposes to build shelters (pg.65) instead of focusing on food. Jack, on the other hand, has an
impulsive and selfish mindset, having been fixed on personal benefits whether they are long term or
not. In the case of using the beast, the long term benefit for Jack would be having control or power
over the island. Instead of denying that there is a beastie , (pg. 47) like Ralph would, Jack
acknowledges the fact that there is a strong fear of the beast, which lingers amongst the boys. By
saying he would hunt the beast down, (pg. 114) Jack manipulate this fear and provides a quicker, more
satisfying solution as opposed to ignoring it. Because of this, Jack provides the respected opinion
when the beast is brought up and in turn further validates his

In order to determine what behaviors would be effective in inspiring James to be productive, James s
supervisor needs to make select a coaching style that would be most effective in encourage James to
develop his skills, knowledge, and capabilities. According to Aguinis (2013), there are four different
coaching styles: driver, persuader, amiable, and analyzer (p. 233). The driver style describes a tactic
that entails the coach taking a directive approach to coaching the employee (Aguinis, 2013, p. 233).
According to Aguinis (2013), a coach who use the driver style tends to be assertive and quick to speak
and usually speak about tasks and facts and usually omits personal feelings (p. 233). Conversely, the
persuader coaching style describes an approach in which the coach explains the benefits of the coach s
directives (Aguinis, 2013, p. 233). Aguinis (2013) states that, like the driver coaching style, the
persuader coaching style denotes coaches that are assertive, yet talk more about feelings and
relationships (p. 233). Aguinis (2013) also states that the amiable coaching style emphasizes the
importance of feelings and intuition as a guiding principle in coaching (p. 233). Lastly, the analyzer

An American By Thomas Friedman Analysis
What is an American? Thomas Friedman, Steven Critchley, and other say that America is falling, we

raise our dignity and peacefully talk or walk away. There are cases of violent acts all over the news,
movies, music, TV, and social media. Violence is a problem within our commutes, however violence
is not what makes an American or what defines America. It is our ability to come together in the face
of adversity, in our darkest hour, that moment when everyone expects us to be out of the count, we
pick each other up and fight back. For that we as Americans are big brothers we fight or bully each

kitsune is a spirit fox and the others are normal foxes. Kitsunes lives longer, are really smart and have
magical power. They can have up to nine tails and every time they gain a tail, which happen every 100
years, they get more powers. Foxes symbolize as tricksters who play pranks. Kitsunes are tricksters
too, but they do it against bad people. In Naruto, the demon fox have the same abilities as a kitsune.
However, he is not a trickster but instead he is selfish. He just wants to be free from Naruto by
controlling him with hatreds. In the chapter 567 of Naruto, we can see that Kurama, the demon fox,
thinks that the more tails a beast have, the stronger the beast is (Kishimoto 10). Not only that, when
Naruto gets the energy from the fox, he gets a tail and more

The Stamp Act and the Tea Act
Screaming occurred as a group of men argued while deciding to form into a group to go against things
they knew they had the rights too and to shape their powers. They were frustrated because they knew
that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s
and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed
through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights
and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston
right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that
they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were
helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul
Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the
group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out
there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t
want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each
other. Conducted into codes so no one can know what they were saying, it was a smart way of sharing
things to not actually reveal their stuff and ruin their plans.
The stamp act was something the Sons

Argumentative Essay On Underhand Shooting
Underhand Shooting Can Still be Reinstated Sports is the system of activities based on physical
athleticism. Humans involved themselves in hunting with spears as part of their physical activities in
prehistoric times. With time, the world has evolved since then. People are now involved in sports and
physical activities not to survive but to remain healthy as well as entertained. There are many sports
that is played around the world. Among all those sports, basketball is one of the most popular sport
played with global recognition. It is played with five players on each team at one time and they
display an array of skills like ball handling, shooting, passing, dribbling, dunking, shot blocking.
Shooting successful free throws in basketball that is not the most glamorous skill that a player can
acquire. At times, it is understated and considered to be a simple shot to score points. However, there
have been debates regarding the technique of shooting free throws. The effectiveness of choosing
between an underhand throw or an overhand throw still is fiercely ... Show more content on

Since the use of overhand shooting there has been a masculine stigma relating to it for the players to
even think about switching back to the underhand style. That s the way little kids shoot, and it didn t
help that everybody calls it the granny shot , Barry says (Rist, 2000). It was even called granny shot as
it was supposed to be an old practice. It was the mockery that even led Wilt Chamberlin change his
style from underhand to overhand resulting in not getting the points. It can also be related with the fact
that the smart people can do the dumb things too. It can be called that it was his dumbness that he tried
to go with the crowd rather than following his own instincts. If we think about it, it is not only his
dumbness but his unwillingness in doing something different than

Ceramics of the North and South Coasts Essay
Ceramics of the North and South Coasts Ancient Peruvian Ceramics of the North Coast March 11,
1997 The first pottery pieces found in Peru were made somewhere between 1500 and 1000 b.p. The
pieces were found in the central Andean region where a religious cult lived. This cult was called
Chavín, after the best known ceremonial center, Chavín de Huántar. The religious center was the home
to massive temples that were highly embellished with low relief sculptures of gods, animals, and
symbols. The pottery found in the area where vessels that were well made and highly decorated with a
similar motif as the temples. But the evolution of Peruvian pottery becomes somewhat confusing and
complex after this first civilization of potters.

Three other cultures in north coast valleys contributed their pottery style to the over all Cusisnique
style that was evolving into the Mochica style. These people were the Gallinazo, Recuay, and Vicús.
The Gallinazo constructed double chamber vessels with whistle spouts and a type of decoration called
negative decoration where they painted their simple designs on after the pieces were fired. The Recuay
also had double chamber vessels but these had one functioning spout and one sculpted, usually an
animal or figure. They also used negative decoration but theirs were much more elaborate designs than
the Gallinazo vessels. The Vicús lived in the highlands on the Ecuadorian border. They made very
sculptural vessels with a stirrup handle and central spout. Although a hand full of Vicús artifacts have
been found, not much is known about these people, but one can see a visible connection between all of
these different cultures and the Mochica style that evolved out of them. The Mochica civilization
flourished for nearly 1000 years and as time passed slight changes in the style could be seen and are
chronologically separated into Mochica I V. The first two are formative phases with lots of
experimentation. The third concentrated on a distinctive art style, which continued through the forth
and gradually declined in the fifth. They expressed many aspects of their culture and daily life in their
ceramics. Things like

Dream Catcher Research Paper
Dream Catcher
Background
Dreams are series of thought, stories, ideas, emotions that happen unintentionally in the mind during
certain stages of sleep. Human sleep occurs in several cycles during the night, each cycles consisting
of five stages. Light sleep to very deep sleep are ranging during the first four stages, EEG machine

during the fifth stage, there are increased activity of the brain which is associated with rapid eye

Age And Second Language Acquisition

Age and Second Language Acquisition
With the rise of globalisation, English has become the Lingua Franca as a tool to communicate among
people from different countries in numerous situations and areas (Nikolov Djigunovic, 2006, p.234).
Therefore, people in various countries are closely connected economically, politically and culturally
and many people are required to acquire a foreign language. As a result, there have been many
researches and evidence on whether age has a great impact on second language acquisition. This essay
will illustrate neurological, phonological and affective factors and the Critical Period Hypothesis as
evidence that children have advantages in second language acquisition. In contrast, cognitive theories
will be stated to illustrate how adult learners have advantages in many second learning strategies
(Comrie Corbett, 2009, p.12). Thirdly, it will suggest two second language acquisition methods
inspired by children?s first language learning, which are Total physical Response and Natural
Approach, because despite their limitations, they contain useful lessons from children?s first language
acquisition such as raising interest and lowering learners? stress. Finally, this essay will assert that
considering neurological, phonological and affective evidence and witnessing children?s natural and
effortless language acquisition, overall children surpass adults in second language acquisition.
Therefore, it is wise to elect useful factors from

Jewish Resistance to the Holocaust Essay
Examining any issue pertaining to the Holocaust is accompanied with complexity and the possibility
of controversy. This is especially true in dealing with the topic of Jewish resistance to the Holocaust.
Historians are often divided on this complex issue, debating issues such as how resistance is defined
and, in accordance with that definition, how much resistance occurred. According to Michael Marrus,
the very term Jewish resistance suggests a point of view. Many factors, both internal such as
differences in opinion on when or what resistance was appropriate, as well as external, such as the
lack of arms with which to revolt, contributed to making resistance, particularly armed resistance,
extremely difficult. When considering acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, it was very difficult to gauge when this point would come; the Germans were
inconsistent in when they carried out the executions, as some were killed immediately and others were
kept alive for a time. Understandably, many Jews inaccurately predicted the time before their
imminent deaths and therefore missed their chance at resistance. In addition to the living conditions in
the ghettos and camps, many differences in opinion led to hesitance to engage in resistance,
particularly armed resistance. There was a great deal of collective responsibility involved with
resistance some believed that to act out was to endanger everyone in the group. Unfortunately, these
worries were often founded in truth. In one instance, when a man protested the death of his brother by
calling the SS member a murder, he was removed to prison, where he passed away; all of the other
members of his group, who had witnessed the incident, were killed as well. By punishing the entire
group for the rebellion of one, the SS helped to ensure that others would know the cost of resistance,
and therefore be less inclined to resist themselves. Another instance of the idea of collective
responsibility was seen in the Vilna ghetto when fugitives escaped the ghetto, their families, as well all
of the Jewish

Gang Life By Robert J. Duran Essay
The book, Gang Life in Two Cities by Robert J. Durán to put simply is about the gang life in Denver,
CO and Ogden, UT. Durán wrote this book to share his research findings. When Durán had to move to
Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an area where gangs were
becoming popular. Durán, an ex gang member himself was curious on how and why gangs operate. He
found this research important, because he saw firsthand how society had a role in the formation of
gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he witnessed while being a gang member
himself and when he conducted his research. This book was different than other literature that had
been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life
and gang members themselves. This is something that other researchers in the field are typically not
able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of investigating what role racial oppression had with
the development of gangs. His perspective and his ex gang membership background allowed him to be
more trusted by all the gang members that he interviewed for this research. As mentioned previously
Duran did conduct interviews as part of his data collection, but this wasn t his full methodology.
Duran used a multimethodological approach termed ethnography. Ethnography method allowed Duran
to gather historical analysis, non participant and participant observation, semi structured

Entertainments trailer for the latest installment in author Suzanne Collins Hunger Games book trilogy
adaptation The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=C_Tsj_wTJkQ) was made with a wide array of types of people in mind. As the third film in a series
of four, the target audience are those, aged thirteen to eighteen years old, who have already seen the
previous films or read the books. However, entertainment companies like Lions Gate want their work
to reach out to as many people as possible, therefore Lions Gate is also trying to pull in a new
audience. The Hunger Games was geared to be a success from the beginning, with Publisher Weekly
reporting over 800,000 copies being sold within two years of the book s release and 750,000 copies of
the sequel Catching Fire being sold within its first year (Roback). I will use the importance and
breadth of what was included in the trailer and to argue that the Hunger Games franchise is successful
because the films invoke senses of sacrifice, love, and identity, things anyone can understand, and not
simply because it is another fad. The Hunger Games franchise consists of four films based off of three
books. With the previous film, Catching Fire, being the highest grossing film in the United States of
America in 2013 as reported by the Hollywood Reporter, it is widely perceived will be just as, if not
more, successful

  • 2. Existential Nihilism In Gwen Harwood s Poetry The awareness we have of our own mortality, the limitations of our flesh, bound only to our nature through subjective perceptions of value and worth has thus far been the driving force behind philosophy and its exploration of the human experience. My interpretation of Gwen Harwood s poetry, through the two examples Triste, Triste and At Mornington , is that it appeals to the key concepts of existentialism, namely Despair, and the Other . Through addressing these key concepts, Harwood s poetry contends the notions of existential nihilism. In turn, the human experiences of loss and consolation are authenticated through her poetic exploration of the concrete and the abstract realms within those key concepts. Although the statement concerning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harwood explores the intersubjectivity between the individual and the Other throughout At Mornington through the use of inclusive pronouns, such as we . The line from stanza two, by your parents grave in silence expresses the potency of the individual s empathy. The silence represents the acknowledgement of the Other, through nonverbally inhabiting the same space. This representation of the comfort of another being, conveys the extent of the acknowledgement, and contends the notions of existential nihilism through the implicit values of dasein . The last stanza of the poem contains the line the peace of this day will shine , this line reflects on the consequences of death. We have one day, only one the epanaleptic repetition of one emphasises the finite nature of our life and suggests an assertive tone to the statement. The motif of the day represents the lifetime of the individual; the metaphor of the day represents the cyclic nature of life and alludes to the biblical notion of death and resurrection. The cyclical representation of life and death symbolises the transition from loss to consolation, through the acknowledgement of the other, and through the developed acceptance of the individual s ... • 4. Terrorism And Political Aspects Of Terrorism In The Media One of the most spoken topics in the media today is terrorism besides any other type of violence. What is terrorism, everyone has a different version in their dictionary. Some blame a whole nation for terrorism, some blame a whole religious group for the actions of only a few. As we know the word terror means extreme fear. A terrorist is someone who creates an atmosphere filled with fear amongst the people that are there. They go against rules and ethics and do very disturbing things which is called terrorism. Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, this type of violence is used especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. They kill innocent people or government/state/or city officials who oppose their wants. The purpose of the actions the terrorists have is to create an atmosphere of fear to suit their wants. Terrorists murder and kidnap people, set off bombs, hijack airplanes, set fires, and commit other serious crimes. But the goals of terrorists differ from those of ordinary criminals. Most criminals want money or some other form of personal gain. Most terrorists commit crimes to support political causes. Features of terrorism. Terrorist acts are committed for various reasons. They often threaten to kill the hostages if their demands are not met. Some terrorism involves the intentional release of toxic chemicals, poisons, or other harmful substances. Essay On Vertical Integration Vertical and Horizontal Integration of Health Systems in Various Regions In the health care system, various integration strategies involve services to improve the delivery of care. However, these services include a vertical and horizontal integrated health system that will help organizations increase market share, become more diversified, and achieve cost advantages by using existing operation to offer new products or services (Shi Singh, 2015). The merchants were also fairly outraged because they saw this as a monopoly for the selling of tea in the colonies. So, colonists were infuriated and refused to allow the East India Company tea to be shipped into the colonies. They saw this as their most effective form of resistance to the taxation. In fact, the Sons of Liberty began to threaten the shippers who had to bring the tea into the colonies. There was a particular event in Boston that captured the Parliament s attention. On December 16, 1773 an organized band of men who had disguised themselves as Indians, rushed onto the Dartmouth ship along with two other ships and began to empty 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor. This allowed for the loss of nine thousand pounds (approximately eighteen thousand U.S. dollars) of profit for the British East India Company and is known as the Boston Tea Party. Similar events occurred in Annapolis, Maryland in 1774 where the residents forced merchants to burn their own ships. While this was event was awful, it was the Boston Tea Party that inspired the Parliament s angry reaction. The reaction drawn from the Parliament was the Intolerable Acts which can be known as an American term for both the Quebec and Coercive Acts. The Coercive Act was created in the spring of 1774. • 8. The Relationship Between Economic Globalization And Labor... The relationship between economic globalization and labor market power provides empirical trends in world average and the world equality through structural bargaining power and associated power, thereby allowing workers to achieve convergence across nations (Mahutga). What labor market power does for economic globalization is that it increases the probability of labor internationalism through two models, namely, the structural model and the institutional model. Beverly Sliver, Tamara Kay, Nita Rudra, and Matthew Mahutga provide different theories and data, breaking down the trends of labor power and labor movement on a global scale. The labor movement began during the industrial revolution and exists because of worker employer relationships and working conditions, thus providing the landscape for labor power (Mahutga). Labor power can be broken down into associational power and structural bargaining power. Mahutga s Lecture on Globalization and Labor builds on Beverly Sliver s argument on the Forces of Labor and Tamara Kay s argument on Labor Transnationalism and Global Governance about what Labor market power and Labor Transnationalism mean as regards labor on a global scale (Mahutga, Kay). Is it creating better standards for the working and living conditions of workers? Associational power results in collective workers ability to unionize and organize to present one opposing voice. Structural bargaining power results from the workers place in the economic system, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Debate Over The Internet The Internet in the year 2009. We send e mails, make calls over the internet and discuss topics we take an interest in. Even our banking is going virtual. But what we take for granted today was only a vague idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to 1957, when everything began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is called batch processing. Of course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and bigger they had to be stored in special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly on the computers anymore specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that time meant a lot of manual work and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs, wasting time and fraying the developers´ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote connection had to be installed so the developers could work directly on the computers. At the same time the idea of time sharing came up. This is the first concept in computer technology to share the processing power of one computer with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik 1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The fear of a Missile Gap emerged. In order to secure America s lead in technology, the US founded the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in February 1958. At that time, knowledge was only transferred by people. Have you ever wondered what came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than present day doctors and pharmacists. In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold out many different products. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona bark for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and quinidine for cardiac problems. But medical treatment was very expensive, so that led to the colonists to self diagnose and treat their own problems. Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they treated themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied topically. In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were published in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them survived. • 12. Service For A Volunteer At United Hospital Service means giving back to a community that has made me the person I am today. It means being selfless, and doing something that benefits someone other than me. Service is more than doing work that you are obligated to do without any reward; it is setting aside time in your busy schedule to make a difference for the better. Service is not the work I would use to describe my work; volunteering is more appropriate. A volunteer is defined as a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. The key word is: offers. Any delinquent could do service; it takes selflessness and passion to volunteer. I was always interested in volunteering and helping others, but I did not get into it until I got involved with the National Honor Society at my high school. The program required us to do at least 10 hours of volunteering each semester. During the time, I was also in the process of becoming to be a volunteer at United Hospital. I already had the ambition to do volunteer work, but now I had the opportunities to actually do it. Volunteering at a hospital was not what I had expected it to be. To be honest, it was quite boring, because it felt like I was just sitting around most of the time waiting to be needed. But the feeling I got after volunteering made it all worth it. Knowing that I could have spent the day doing something else, but choosing to be here and to actually make a difference have me a feeling of elation. Same with the work I did with the ... The Last King of Scotland is a film based on a fictional story of Nicholas Garrigan. Characters within the film possess various qualities and make certain decisions that inevitably proves their behaviors as ethical. Although there were extremely dreadful and horrifying scenes that showed how monstrous people have the ability to be, with respect to the ethicist, Aristotle, the ethical experience of obligation, as well as the teaching of the church of the 8 beatitudes, it is conclusive that ethical behavior is evident in the film, The Last King of Scotland. In this essay I will look at how Dylan Thomas uses language and poetic form to explore his own metaphysical viewpoint and his position as a poet in relation to the rest of society. Throughout the poem there is other various references to life and things generally associated with life. In line 16 the lips of time leech to the fountain head , I think the phrase the fountain head is a metaphor for the womb and the lips of time phrase serves as a reminder that life is only temporary and the time in which life can be created by other living things is even shorter (e.g. women can only have children up to a certain age). Generally the poem focuses on both this similarity between man and the environment, and on one major difference humans have conscious self awareness plus the ability of language and speech. This emphasises the irony that although people are physically one with the universe, they are separated from it by intellectual consciousness. The poem consists of five stanzas. Each of the stanzas are made up of five lines (except the last, which has two lines). The 3rd line of each stanza is shorter than the two before and after it. • 18. Three Mile Island Essay Three Mile Island On March 28, 1979 a series of mechanical, electrical, and human failures led to what has been described as the worst nuclear power plant accident in the history of the United States. News of the accident rocked the nation, and its effects were keenly felt by those who lived in the shadow of the great concrete towers of Three Mile Island. The accident began about 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, when there was failure in the secondary, non nuclear section of the plant. The main feedwater pumps stopped running, which was caused by either a mechanical or electrical failure that prevented the steam generators from removing heat. Because of these voids, the water in the system was redistributed and the pressurizer became full of water. The level indicator, which tells the operator the amount of coolant capable of heat removal, incorrectly showed the system was full of water. Because of this the operator stopped adding water. He did not know that, because of the stuck valve, the indicator can provided false readings. Because adequate cooling was not available, the nuclear fuel overheated to the point where some of the zirconium cladding, the long metal tubes or jackets which hold the nuclear fuel pellets reacted with the water and created hydrogen. This hydrogen was released into the reactor containment building. By March 30, two days after the start of the chain of events, some hydrogen remained in the primary coolant system in the vessel surrounding the reactor, forming a hydrogen bubble above the reactor core. Officials were concerned that if reactor pressure decreased, the hydrogen bubble would expand and therefore interfere with the flow of cooling water through the core. Over the next few days, the bubble was reduced by degassing the pressurizer, meaning they adjusting air and water pressure. Without water to cool it, and with the top of the reactor core uncovered, the main damage to the reactor occurred two to three hours into the accident. Although no meltdown occurred, in ... Even though Sir Robert Peel was not in favour of income tax, he introduced income tax again in his Budget of 1842 that was considered to be one of the most famous in the 19th century. Peel taxed people earning above £150, this resulted in favour of the less wealthy people. Also under custom duties there were 1200 articles, of which Peel reduced 750 articles on his budget. His taxation plan was on action for a period of three years. But it was extended for another two years due to an increase in the national expenditure, and also to help the national railways because the railway industry had less money. When cheaper imports were available, Corn Laws were created which is a tariff on imports. This helped the local farmers as they had a competitive advantage, but Peel repealed the Corn Laws. He also believed that government spending should be kept to a minimum level. • 22. It Goes Into A Landfill Most people don t think about where their trash goes after the garbage trucks empty the trash bins. It goes into a landfill, which is a carefully engineered and managed structure and acts as a final disposal option for waste ( Solid Waste Agency ). The purpose of a landfill is to bury trash in a way that it will be isolated from groundwater, will be kept dry, and will not come into contact with air. Under these conditions, the excess waste does not decompose very much (Freudenrich). Many objects that are thrown into the trash, which end up into a landfill, can actually be recycled. 20% of the items in landfills can be recycled, and another 25% are compostable, and a further 16% are recoverable (Curiosity Quest). A total of 61% of the landfill can be diverted to better use. Since most Americans don t know about what objects can be recycled, or just ignore the recycle labels, the objects end up in a landfill. In the U.S, people produce about 4.6 pounds of trash per person per day, which equates to 251 million tons of trash per year (Freudenrich). This is slightly less than all the other countries trash combined (Alabama Environmental Council). Most of this trash is buried in a landfill, and the rest is recycled, composted, and burned (Freudenrich). 81.8 million tons of trash in 2006 could have been recycled or composted, but were instead sent into a landfill (Freudenrich). • 23. The Supernatural Element Of William Shakespeare s Macbeth What is interesting is what each supernatural element represents in Shakespeare s society and in our current society. The supernatural elements in Macbeth include fate, the witches, mythological beings, ghosts, and apparitions. I believe that the witches in Shakespeare s time, in the play and in real life, represent the power of choice. The power to be able to decide to commit murder or any other heinous act or decide to let things naturally happen shows the classic choice between good and evil, but the witches themselves are not evil. While they are viewed as treasonous in this time, that is simply because they were believed to be associated with the devil and a threat to the king. In reality, Macbeth is the evil one because of his actions. I would even argue that Macbeth was the one who sealed his unfortunate fate once the king was murdered. Because of the downward spiral Macbeth, and even Lady Macbeth, faces after the murders, his eventual insanity proves that the act he committed was in fact evil because of the repercussions he faced. The repercussions themselves could be viewed as evil because the supernatural evil could prove to be a better sanctioning mechanism than a punishing god (Martinez, 334). I think this is comparable to our society today because of how the belief in fate itself constitutes the belief of karma, either good or bad, in that a person gets what he or she deserves. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, I think, got what they deserved in the end. Moreover, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The financing of such associations came mainly through religious charity, Zakat, and was able to provide, at the local level, public goods and services that the state failed to provide, such as schooling, day care, and health clinics (Wickham, 99). The regime tolerated this sector because it did not pose a threat to it, and due to its contribution to social stability in poor neighborhoods (Wickham, 104). The regime s tolerance toward Islamic groups in the mid 1970s, gave rise to the new generations of Islamists, who would later form part of the leadership of both militant and reformist sections of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as other Islamic groups (Wickham, 117). These receptors send processes to the epithelium where it divides into 10 to 20 cilia. Molecules of odor then must dissolve in the mucus and stimulate the receptors in the cilia, which detect aromatic molecules. Next, each olfactory receptor cell sends an axon into the olfactory bulb, which is located at the end of the olfactory tract. Essay On The Beast In Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies Essay After experiencing events such as the horrors of World War II, William Golding represents the evil nature of mankind as the Beast in his novel Lord of the Flies. Although an illusionary character, the beast had the most influence in the development of savagery throughout the story. It is used to gain power, it is the violence within the boys and it is a factor that drives them towards a tribe like form of savagery. Golding uses the Beast to help disrupt the balance of power within the island. Ralph s method of dealing with things is democratic and revolves around the overall benefit of the group. This is shown in many instances where he prioritises long term benefits over immediate ones such as when he proposes to build shelters (pg.65) instead of focusing on food. Jack, on the other hand, has an impulsive and selfish mindset, having been fixed on personal benefits whether they are long term or not. In the case of using the beast, the long term benefit for Jack would be having control or power over the island. Instead of denying that there is a beastie , (pg. 47) like Ralph would, Jack acknowledges the fact that there is a strong fear of the beast, which lingers amongst the boys. By saying he would hunt the beast down, (pg. 114) Jack manipulate this fear and provides a quicker, more satisfying solution as opposed to ignoring it. According to Aguinis (2013), a coach who use the driver style tends to be assertive and quick to speak and usually speak about tasks and facts and usually omits personal feelings (p. 233). The wife of Bath s story is fairly general a man is accused of trying to rape a woman and the sentence for this charge is to be hung. This was not true for all of the church as is true all of Chaucer s characters were not exact remakes of their real life counterpart. The clergy (Monk and Prioress and Friar) and other church related affiliates (Summoner and Pardoner) are made out to be corrupting the church. Three other cultures in north coast valleys contributed their pottery style to the over all Cusisnique style that was evolving into the Mochica style. These people were the Gallinazo, Recuay, and Vicús. The Gallinazo constructed double chamber vessels with whistle spouts and a type of decoration called negative decoration where they painted their simple designs on after the pieces were fired. The Recuay also had double chamber vessels but these had one functioning spout and one sculpted, usually an animal or figure. They also used negative decoration but theirs were much more elaborate designs than the Gallinazo vessels. The Vicús lived in the highlands on the Ecuadorian border. They made very sculptural vessels with a stirrup handle and central spout. Although a hand full of Vicús artifacts have been found, not much is known about these people, but one can see a visible connection between all of these different cultures and the Mochica style that evolved out of them. Therefore, people in various countries are closely connected economically, politically and culturally and many people are required to acquire a foreign language. As a result, there have been many researches and evidence on whether age has a great impact on second language acquisition. This essay will illustrate neurological, phonological and affective factors and the Critical Period Hypothesis as evidence that children have advantages in second language acquisition. In contrast, cognitive theories will be stated to illustrate how adult learners have advantages in many second learning strategies (Comrie Corbett, 2009, p.12). This is especially true in dealing with the topic of Jewish resistance to the Holocaust. Historians are often divided on this complex issue, debating issues such as how resistance is defined and, in accordance with that definition, how much resistance occurred. According to Michael Marrus, the very term Jewish resistance suggests a point of view. Many factors, both internal such as differences in opinion on when or what resistance was appropriate, as well as external, such as the lack of arms with which to revolt, contributed to making resistance, particularly armed resistance, extremely difficult. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to gauge when this point would come; the Germans were inconsistent in when they carried out the executions, as some were killed immediately and others were kept alive for a time. Understandably, many Jews inaccurately predicted the time before their imminent deaths and therefore missed their chance at resistance. In addition to the living conditions in the ghettos and camps, many differences in opinion led to hesitance to engage in resistance, particularly armed resistance. There was a great deal of collective responsibility involved with resistance some believed that to act out was to endanger everyone in the group. Unfortunately, these worries were often founded in truth. In one instance, when a man protested the death of his brother by calling the SS member a murder, he was removed to prison, where he passed away; all of the other members of his group, who had witnessed the incident, were killed as well. By punishing the entire group for the rebellion of one, the SS helped to ensure that others would know the cost of resistance, and therefore be less inclined to resist themselves. Another instance of the idea of collective responsibility was seen in the Vilna ghetto when fugitives escaped the ghetto, their families, as well all of the Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Durán wrote this book to share his research findings. When Durán had to move to Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an area where gangs were becoming popular. Durán, an ex gang member himself was curious on how and why gangs operate. He found this research important, because he saw firsthand how society had a role in the formation of gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he witnessed while being a gang member himself and when he conducted his research. This book was different than other literature that had been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life and gang members themselves. This is something that other researchers in the field are typically not able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of investigating what role racial oppression had with the development of gangs. His perspective and his ex gang membership background allowed him to be more trusted by all the gang members that he interviewed for this research. As mentioned previously Duran did conduct interviews as part of his data collection, but this wasn t his full methodology. Duran used a multimethodological approach termed ethnography. I will use the importance and breadth of what was included in the trailer and to argue that the Hunger Games franchise is successful because the films invoke senses of sacrifice, love, and identity, things anyone can understand, and not simply because it is another fad. The Hunger Games franchise consists of four films based off of three books.
