Ceramics Scholarship Essay
Growing up I have developed interests and abilities that continue to provide me endless satisfaction
and joy: literature, creative writing, friends, and art. These things are my foundation, my fun and
my life.
Ceramics is one of my true passions. It began when I was very young and continued through a 5
week summer program at Choate in 2016, and now at Fay as my favored art class. At Choate, I
advanced significantly in ceramics, learning and developing new clay and glazing techniques. One
of the methods I created was a marbling technique which impressed my fellow students and was
used by upper classmates for the rest of the summer. In my present ceramics class at Fay, I have
worked hard on hand building pieces, whistles, and using slabs to create boxes, vases, and tea sets.
I am hoping to get onto the Varsity Art team next year. Varsity Art is a ninth grade art class where
advanced art students are placed together to work and learn new techniques. The class focuses on
sketching, painting, sculpting and painting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doniger. This has helped me to be adept at writing as well. Now, literature and creative writing
are two of my favorite subjects. This past year, while working with my seventh grade teacher,
Adam Frick, I had to write a paper on my personal life and what made me unique and special.
Despite my love for writing, this was an arduous task for me. Writing about myself is more
challenging sometimes than writing about almost anything else!
Friendship is something that almost everyone needs or has. I have many friends and I am so
thankful for them. One of the most wonderful elements of my experience at Fay is the opportunity
to meet people my age, ranging from Thailand to Russia to California. I feel that true friends are
extremely important because they are there through hard times and are always there to talk to and
can put a smile on my face. Friendship is the essence of

Explain Why It Is Important To Be In Control Of Paperwork
It is important to be in control of our paperwork; we don t always have control over what we
receive in the form of paperwork and most of that tends to come from our mail. What we do
have control over is how we deal with this source of clutter. With that in mind, let s look at a
good way to deal with our mail. Most people receive mail six days a week, this may depend on
your specific location. Sometimes there are days when all that you receive is junk mail mail that
serves no purpose other than trying to sell you something or get you to donate money or some
other distracting topic. We are all in the habit of getting our mail daily since that is the usual
delivery schedule but does that mean we have to let it occupy our space and time

Strength Celie quote s us sleep like sisters, me and Shug in the novel The Color Purple to show
her relationship to the character Shug. Celie is one of the main characters in the novel that is at

her as a strong character through all the horrors of her life. Celie is a character that is strong,

Notes On Blue Aspects Of Green Infrastructure
Joshua Chia Design Literature review
Introduction
The topic of this literature review seeks to explore; how can a biophilic approach to blue
infrastructure in urban spaces increase the well being and resilience of a community? A wide
range of material was investigated, from published academic articles to books. This review will
not cover the topic of climate change, case studies or the essence of well being itself, it does
explore how landscape elements might influence our perception of well being. The sources
essentially break down the main topic into separate sections, exploring how they are linked together
and providing a coherent investigation of the topic.
Article 1: Blue aspects of green infrastructure. Sustainable Development Applications
Analysis: Iwona Wagner sheds light on how green spaces in urban areas might adopt a blue
infrastructure approach to improving water balance in the urban landscape. The article opens with a
brief overview of the importance of maintaining water cycles in highly modified environments. It
stresses the integration of ecological processes into water management practices, resulting in design
solutions. Examples include bio filtration systems and retention ponds that purify and retain
stormwater on site. Their aim is to allow local aquifers to recharge and reduce the risk of floods
and drought. (1) In my opinion, this design approach allows landscape architecture to transcend its
ornamental reputation into a medium that encourages

KPMG Sued by New Century Trustee Over Subprime Lender s Demise
By Sophia Pearson April 2, 2009 00:36 EDT
April 2 (Bloomberg) KPMG International, which oversees the fourth largest U.S. accounting firm,
was sued by the trustee for bankrupt subprime lender New Century Financial Corp. over claims it
failed in its role as gatekeeper.
Negligent audits and reviews by KPMG LLP, the U.S. member firm of KPMG International, led
to New Century s collapse, according to lawsuits filed yesterday in state court in Los Angeles and
federal court in New York. The suits, filed against both KPMG International and KPMG LLP, seek
at least $1 billion in damages.

KPMG advised New Century to alter the way it calculated reserves for repurchasing mortgage loans
that didn t meet certain conditions, according to the Los Angeles complaint. New Century s
calculations for required reserves were wrong and violated generally accepted accounting principles,
the complaint said.
Mistakes in calculation grew to more than $300 million and repurchase requests soared to $8
billion once New Century s true financial condition was known, the complaint said. The company
could no longer borrow money to finance its lending business and collapsed owing billions.
Professional Standards
Any claim that we acquiesced to client demands is unsupportable, Ginsburg said. KPMG acted in
accordance with professional standards in New Century, and we will vigorously defend our audit
work.
Last year, a report by bankruptcy court examiner Michael J. Missal concluded KPMG could be
accused of professional and negligent misrepresentation although the firm had possible legal
defenses to such claims. The 581 page report, unsealed in March 2008, didn t conclude that KPMG
engaged in fraud.
Thomas, the trustee s attorney, won a $521.7 million verdict in a similar lawsuit brought by a
Portuguese bank against BDO Seidman, the seventh largest U.S. accounting firm. A jury found in
August 2007 that the firm failed to detect a fraud leading to the collapse of a client of Banco

We must continue to set the highest standards, embrace technology and encourage innovation in
the classroom, our children and grandchildren deserve no less. Improved facilities, state of art
equipment, continuing education and increased staffing levels in our police and fire
departments are all necessary in order to meet the increasing demands of a growing city. We
must work with the state Legislature and city administration to develop a plan to fund a new
police headquarters and address the living quarters at our fire stations because the men and
women entrusted with our safety deserve to have the appropriate facilities to carry out this most
critical role. As our built infrastructure ages the important role our DPW plays in our everyday
lives becomes more and more evident. We have invested in the facilities, now it is time we invest
in the personnel and equipment to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Resources
produce results. With these resources we will see improved service delivery to our built

Clyde Bruckman s The X-Files
Curious, Desperate, and Gullible The X Files is an American science fiction drama television
series created by Chris Carter, which originally aired from September 10, 1993 to May 19, 2002 on
Fox. The X Files had nine seasons with approximately 202 episodes featuring different elements
such as suspense, science fiction, etc. Focusing on one episode known as Clyde Bruckman s Final
Repose which was released on October 13, 1995 which goes on to talk about two FBI officers who

People are desperate in the nature in doing anything to find out what will happen next or what
will happen in the future. This reaction of feeling desperate to find out what will happen seems
to be more of an accumulated feeling of wanting to have a sense of control. Instead of allowing
the future to just to be the future they are desperate on finding answers to unknown answers
about their lives to gain of power of control over their lives. Desperate measures could be going
to mediums and fortunetellers just like the character (serial killer) to feel a sense of control.
Finally, the episode showed that people in reaction for searching for the control over their lives
become gullible. Being gullible in the fact that they basically believe anything anybody says
about knowing an aspect of their future. For an example in the episode, when the FBI officers
brought in a fortuneteller to help on a lead on finding a serial killer the man was naming broad
tips that was almost believable by the officers. It wasn t the fact that they were desperate it was
the fact that they got a breath of fresh air knowing even a small glimpse of where they were going

Why Do Gun Controls Cause Violent Crime
controls cause more violent crime, why would many states with the lowest homicide rates also have
relatively low gun control laws?
There is variably no connection to high gun ownership rates and higher amounts of crime. There are
only 6 states in which 50 percent of the household s own firearms that is Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho,
Montana, West Virginia and Wyoming. If guncontrol advocates are correct about guns, these states
would have much more higher crime rates. Data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention show that 4 of the 6 states ranked in the top half of states having the lowest homicide
rates. Two of the states, Idaho and Wyoming are in the top in the top six.
Further, many cities with very low legal gun ownership rates and stringent gun control laws, such as
Chicago, have extremely high gun related murder rates.
Gun control laws also don t prevent mass shootings. An analysis conducted by statistician Leah
Libresco shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has little hope of working in the United States, though, where most gun owners want to keep
their firearms, however even if this were to be effective, how would the government stop newly
illegal guns from flooding into the country across America s massive, largely unguarded borders?
A study published in 2013 by the Trans Border Institute and Igarape Institute estimates an average
of 253,000 firearms cross the U.S. Mexico border every year. Earlier in 2017, the Canadian
government reported it believes there are greater than 1 million prohibited guns in its country, and
Canadian officials believe most of the firearms were brought there from the United States. These
figures prove that without massive border security improvements which, ironically, most gun
control advocates oppose there s no way a substantial reduction in guns could ever

Benefits Of Opportunity Cost For Opportunity Costs
Human wants are unlimited but the resources are limited. Therefore, it is not possible to fulfil all
the human desires. As a result, scarcity arises. Scarcity is the condition where the human desires
cannot be fulfilled due to the limitation of available resources. Hence, to fulfil one wish, we give up
another which in economicsis termed as the opportunity costs. Due to limited resources and due to
unavailability, individuals and society are forced to incur opportunity costs. Opportunity cost is the
second best alternative that one gives up. Due to the limitations of resources, human chooses the
most viable options as per the benefits and costs.
The diagram above shows the Production Possibility Curve. It shows the level of satisfaction as per
the consumption of coke and Pizza. The points A, B, C, D E shows the maximum level of output
one can achieve. Any point below the curve is inefficient and any point beyond the curve is
unachievable. In order to enjoy 15 pizzas, one should give up all the coke or in order to enjoy 40
cokes, one should give up all the pizzas. At point B, one can enjoy 13 pizzas and 20 cokes.
Likewise, one can enjoy 10 pizzas and 30 cokes at point C and 5 pizzas and 38 cokes at point D.
In order to enjoy 20 cokes, one has to give up (15 13) i.e. 2 pizzas which can be termed as
opportunity cost. The opportunity cost to have 30 cokes is the 5 pizzas that we give up because in
that point we can have only 10 pizzas. Therefore, to

Animal Vaporization
According to Dickerson et al., many animals, including dogs, have loose skin that is beneficial to
shaking off water. Through video evidence, it was determined that the maximum deflection of dog
fur while shaking is 90В°. The average dog s dermal tissue, all substance between the fur and
muscles, has a maximum deflection of 60В°, measured by rotating the skin around the dog s bodies
while standing stationary. Through subtraction, it can be deduced that the maximum vertebral
deflection is 30В°. This extra skin is advantageous, as it triples the amplitude at which the fur
oscillates. An animal will shake at the maximum speed possible, in attempts to shed the most water.
A greater amplitude will increase the distance over which the fur travels, О”d,... Show more content

Vaporization is a process that requires an input in energyto allow the liquid molecules to overcome
intermolecular attractions and separate, which would be partially taken from the animal.
George S. Bakken calculated an estimate coefficient for this issue, providing the efficiency of
evaporation, (heat of vaporization supplied by the animal)/(heat of vaporization supplied by the
animal + heat of vaporization supplied by the environment), to be approximately .37 for a large
sized dog of torso diameter 20 centimeters (Bakken, 1976). Further, through observation, it was
seen, on average, an animal would be able to remove up to 70 percent of its accumulated water
via shaking (Dickerson, et al., 2012). Given the heat of vaporization formula, q=mHv, where
q=heat, m=mass of the water, and Hv=heat of vaporization, the heat loss in an animal through
water evaporation can be calculated. A. K. Dickerson et al. distinguished a trend for the relation
between the mass of an animal and the mass of the water held by its fur:
MWater=0.047MAnimal0.97. Lastly, the heat of vaporization of water is 2.257x106 J/kg. Thus,
the simulated calculation of energy loss due to evaporation in a large dog is found

Land Use
Due to the effects of urbanization and industry, the amount of land available for agriculture is
rapidly reducing. Of the total land area of 792,607 hectares for Negros Occidental (the
Philippines) the Alienable and Disposable (A amp; D) areas covers 68.17 percent 0r 540,350.13

up most of which is considered Alienable and Disposable. This includes the residential,
commercial and institutional areas as well as agricultural lands. Fish ponds are also found in this
area occupying an area of 9,333.14 hectares. Zoning and land use plans have been put into place to
regulate the development of communities ensuring that the distribution of land is properly
allocated so that it is not in incompatible use. Despite these measures, many farmers are very poor.

The USA Patriot Act (FISA)
In the entire span of the United States history, the commitment of the protection of Americans
civil liberties have frequently been tested and strained. The biggest breach of national security
was on September 11, 2001 which ended in the compromise of the trust of American people
because they had felt lied to and vulnerable all because of a broken pact and a failure to protect
America with an agency founded to prevent such a catastrophe. After these acts of terror Congress
felt they needed to do better and step up their game, they decided it was time to act so just one vote
short of unanimous bipartisan support, they passed the USA Patriot Act. The measure gave law

Although the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) already permitted the
administration to wiretap on an emergency basis and apply for warrants retroactively, the
administration maintained that FISA was too cumbersome when urgent issues of national security
were at stake. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales offered two justifications for the legality of the
domestic spying program, asserting that the president had the inherent authority under the
Constitution, as commander in chief, to engage in this kind of activity and that Congress, when it
authorize[d] the president to use all necessary and appropriate force against al Qaeda in 2001,
indirectly sanctioned it. Critics objected that the wiretapping infringed on civil liberties,
sidestepped the legislative branch, and placed the president above the law. In August 2006, a
federal judge in Detroit ruled the wiretapping program unconstitutional. However, in July 2008,
Congress passed a bill overhauling the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act effectively legalizing
Bush s secret program. The new law gave legal immunity to the telephone companies that
participated in the NSA secret wiretapping program after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and
broadened the government s ability to eavesdrop on those in the U.S. and abroad it suspects are

Understanding Why Race, Ethnicity And Nativity
4.3 Focused analysis on main ODW
We now focus on understanding why Race, ethnicity and nativity , (i.e., culture), and Household
economic characteristics (i.e., household as an economic agent) are the most well connected
determinant nodes in the ODW network.
The visualization in Figure 6a offers a graphical overview of the ODW network removing the links
that do not directly connect culture determinant. This visualization displays this node high
connectivity within the model (links with 88.89% of other determinants) as a reason behind its
main relevance, leaving out just two nodes, Household type and Occupational standing . Similarly,
a black loop around the node represents the determinantВґs own weight (26.54) that renders its
number of inner links adjusted by the amount of binary nodes.
Culture determinant`s incoming (54%) and outgoing (46%) connections afforded for both
supportive and influencing roles in the model, although the supportive role prevailed as the ratio
between the outgoing and incoming (out/in) links was 0.86. This supportive role had likewise been
preeminent in the subset of cyclic relationships established with other nodes by both incoming and
outgoing links, which accounted for 76.92% of the culture node s connections, as the out/in link
weight ratio remained below the unit for all the cases (0.14 in average).
Culture stronger cyclic relationships stood with the nodes of household geographic characteristics
and economy . With statistically

Summary Of Emma Bovary
Today, women are free to get divorced, become CEOs of public and private companies, and vote.
In 19th century France, women s options were severely limited as they did not have equal
property or contract rights as men nor the right to vote. As a result, women had an extremely
isolated existence and marriage was the accepted way to gain wealth and social status . Women
were defined by their husbands and their power was subordinated to their authority. While many
women were content with this trapped life, Emma Bovary is not. She is trapped in a web of
ennui: The feeling of mental weariness and dissatisfaction produced by want of occupation, or lack
of interest in present surroundings or employments. She insists on gaining authority through
forbidden relationships with men outside her marriage, for there is more to life than her
uninspired husband. Emma s desire to write her own life story, resembling those of the novels she
read in the convent as a young girl, is her ultimate destruction as it drives her into an endless cycle
of ennui and finally suicide.
Shortly after her marriage, Emma attempts to escape her ennui through writing and the power of
words. When Emma marries Charles Bovary and becomes Madame Bovary, she falls into a life
[that] was cold as a garret facing north, and ennui, the silent spider, was weaving its web in the
darkness, in every corner of her heart (38). Emma s life is as empty, dark, and isolated. Her
loneliness surrounds her and she recognizes and

The issue here is injured dancers and dancers dancing over or recovering from injuries. This does
not follow any kind of predictable timeline in terms of recovery. From what we know of
Boylston s injury it occurred during the Giselle and involved her ankle. Executing 32 fouettГ©s
requires turning on one ankle for a few minutes, really grinding that leg into the floor almost. So

Relationship Between Europeans And Native Americans
The picture that one detects when thinking of the relationship between Native Americans and
Europeans is depicted by circumstances that eventually shaped the New World. It is hard to
imagine how different the world would be if today s society still used ancient indian traditions.
A certain study indicated that the swamps where the indians lived in the Chesapeake were full
of casualties. It was filled with disease and a vast variety of illnesses. With the high risk for
disease it forced the Europeans to adjust several social forms that were being brought over from
England. Alienated from the remainder of the world, the indians did not have a strong enough
immune system to defend the diseases. This epidemic caused major dissolution in the not only the
villages, but also within the European immigrants and african slaves. With the loss of older
natives, this also meant loss of their heritage. Centuries of traditions, talents, and artistry were
strayed. The sickness cause many of the elders to perish at once, meaning many of the traditions
died along with them. Many Indians never even saw the face of a white or black man. As a result
of the deaths, it is hard to imagine what traditions we might have carried on still to this day if so
many had not perished. Although the Indians had many admirable talents, the Europeans respect
for the natives was microscopic. Europeans from different parts of the world had conflicting
viewpoints of how Indians should be treated. In the, Native

How Gunpowder Shaped The World
Almost everybody recognizes that gunpowder had an impact in the world today, however, few
people realize just how much it has shaped the world as the public knows it. It has modernized the
field of battle, from warriors running across an open plain, wielding swords and shields, to
commanders strategically and methodically using resources. It turned walls into rubble, boulders
into pebbles, and people into dust. It changed warfare overall, and with it, the world. Although a lot
of people agree that gunpowderwas, and still is, a horrible invention, it has a unique story, including
how it was made, how it was used, and the effects that it had on the world. Gunpowder was created
in the 9th century in Ancient China, according to Karen Carr, a... Show more content on

There have been so many battles in history that have been decided by the use of gunpowder. For
instance, the Ottoman Turks had been trying for what seemed like forever to take over the city
of Constantinople. The city s walls made the city impenetrable, and without gunpowder to blow
the wall to bits, the city may never have fallen. These types have examples are seen all of the
time in history, from the most basic of border skirmishes, to the largest of battles. Because of its
widescale use, it changed how warfare was fought as a whole. Before the 13th century, two
armies would shoot a few arrows at each other and then charge with swords and shields.
Subsequently, armies that just flat out charged straight forward would be obliterated by
cannons and other fiery weapons. After the medieval era, and into the Renaissance era, castles
were a lot less common. The point of castles were to provide a main defense for people higher up
on the social ladder. The castle had to be near impenetrable without a large force attacking it, and
it had to be easily defended. This was completely swept away with gunpowder, because a force
could just show up with a cannon, blow a couple holes in the walls, and run right in and capture the
city. Gunpowder also allowed European countries like Spain, England, France, and Portugal to
explore and claim new lands as their own. Even the most

Hydrogen And Hydrogen As A Fuel
Introduction
Hydrogen is proven to be the most efficient furl because of its abundance and the production of
harmless bi products as compared fossil fuel. Despite the abundance in its natural existence,
Hydrogen can also be obtained through processes such as the electrolysis of water and methanol
steam conversion. Hydrogen as a fuel is capable of the replacement of most of the other sources of
energy. However, Hydrogen faces numerous obstacles to its entry into the economy and the
utilization by human beings. The technology to contain and manage hydrogen as a fuel is already
present. However, the hindrances bar the launch of hydrogen as a basic fuel. The essay discusses
the various obstacles to the hydrogen economy such as the market entry issues and issues related to
policies.
Thesis statement: The government ownership of fossil fuel reservoirs and gas outlet companies is
the main obstacle to the launch and adoption of the hydrogen economy.
Background and history The use of hydrogen as a fuel requires the adoption of the fuel cells
technology for their role in the reaction activity between hydrogen and hydrogen for the production
of energy. The fuel cells convert more of their energy potential from the fuel source as compared to
the regular gasoline fuels. The insignificance of the impact caused by the bi products of such
reactions makes it the much better option than the fossil fuels that face the threat of exhaustion.
However, the adoption of hydrogen as the primary

The Rationality And Moral Significance Of Emotions
Love, joy, grief, pride, shame, hate, fear, envy. We all have emotions and we recognise emotions
in others. It is remarkable how often we are wrong about our own emotions and misread the
emotions of others. Philosophers often call emotions appropriate or inappropriate. Virtue ethicists
put a lot of importance to emotions and claim that emotions are an essential motivator of ethical
behaviour and we should ethically assess people s emotions responses directly (de Sousa 2014).
The rationality and moral significance of emotions remains debatable due to the ambiguous
questions about their justification. Many emotions seem to involve positive or negative evaluations
of their objects e.g. to be angry at me is to evaluate me negatively. However, emotions are not
necessarily tied to evaluative judgements, because we can be irrationally angry at someone even
though we judge that they have done nothing wrong. And so, D Arms Jacobson (2000) describe
emotions as involving evaluative presentations that do not force us to make the evaluative
judgement, but put pressure on us to make judgement. The question then, is how can we evaluate
emotional responses and whether such emotional responses are true or fitting or prudentially useful
or morally right? Many emotions are associated with beliefs or judgements. Empirical thinking is
primarily linked to experience in the sense that perceptual experiences can provide reasons for
empirical belief and judgement (Goldie 2004). One

Before installing the VPN services, however, a number of things must be taken into
consideration. By evaluating who is using the VPN, the hardware necessary to make good
connections, the pros and cons of differing connection protocols, and evaluating past security
problems, setting up the VPN services becomes a much smoother process. VPN s and Firewalls
Anyone who will be accessing the VPN services should have a firewall in place.Once a VPN
connection is established, the client is essentially able to access information behind the
company s firewall, thus creating an access hole. Therefore, insisting a client use and maintain a
firewall is another layer in the security of the VPN setup. The ease of changing the firewall rules
to allow VPN connections should be addressed. Very old firewalls, either appliance types or
software types, may be difficult or impossible to configure to allow VPN access.A small business
may stay with an old firewall for many reasons, one of which might be the fact that there has been
no reason to upgrade in the past. It would be prudent to check the firewall documentation before
becoming enmeshed in the VPN process, only to have it fail for lack of access, or creating a setup
that might be considered insecure. User Considerations When setting up the VPN server(s) at the
main office, who is using the connection and how much access to the internal network,

Original Recordings Of British American Marchen Essay
One of the earliest recordings of British American Märchen in the Archive of Folk Culture
includes Sam Harmon s rendition of Stiff Dick , a Jack tale parallel to the Brave Little Tailor
included in the Grimm Brother s Household Tales. These stories begin with Jack traveling the
country usually looking for work. He encounters a group of insects, sometimes butterflies, most
often house flies, and kills multiple with a stick or wooden paddle in one swing. The most
common number killed is seven, whereby Jack proceeds to have a belt or belt buckle made to
announce his accomplishment. In the Jack, Stiff Dick versions, the lettering reads, Stiff Dick,
killed seven with one lick! In less suggestive versions, the message reads, Strong man Jack, killed
seven at a whack! After the belt or belt buckle is made, Jack encounters the authority figure of
the region who misunderstands the meaning of the message. The king, wealthy land owner, or
lord of the region offers Jack a task based on his perception that Jack is a fierce fighter. The first
task is to remove a wild boar that has been terrorizing the area, killing livestock and injuring
people. Jack is offered a significant amount of money for the removal of the threat because all
other men of the expanse are frightened. Jack is fearful of the boar himself, and decides to pretend
to accept the offer but planning to slip out of the territory instead. While trying to escape the boar s

Why Math Is Important For Teaching Mathematics And How...
Math Philosophy Paper Math is developing concepts or standards that s important for teaching
mathematics to students from Pre K to high school. In our changing world, those who understand
and can do mathematics will have significant opportunities and options for shaping their future.
(NCTM 2000, p.50). The two important tools to be an effective teacher is knowledge of
mathematics and how students learn mathematics. The purposes of math educationeffect our life
since the time we were able to walk. We were taught how to count on our fingers to being able to
write our numbers to ten. Then as we got older, concepts were more challenging and involved
critical thinking to solve the problems. In society today, math is being utilized in simple to complex
avenues such as grocery shopping, measuring, budgeting, investments, architecture, science and
technology to name a few. If we take a look around our environment signs, buildings, bridges,
streets and just the different patterns and shapes all relate back to mathematics. My role as a math
teacher in the classroom would be creating an inviting math environment for my students, being
able to explain math to all my students in ways that they understand and model math in an
effective way. I want to be a leader, share my knowledge, engage and challenge my students,
support them, respect them, be positive and keep them interested in math. The qualities I would

What Is The Theme Of The Raven
The Raven
S. T. Coleridge s The Raven was published in Morning Post and Gazetteer on the 10th of March
in1798. Its subtitle A Christmas Tale, Told by a Schoolboy to his Little Brothers and Sisters
suggests innocence and something appropriate to the Christmas season. This poem tells the
story of a raven, who flies far and gathers much knowledge. On his return to his favourite tree he
sets up a house with a female raven but one day a woodman chops the tree down killing the
raven s wife and chicks. The harmonious life of the birds is destroyed by the woodman. The
wood is used as timbers for the building of a ship. When the ship is launched it sinks in an
uncanny storm and the raven is avenged. As the raven flies back to land, he meets death ... Show

T. Coleridge s The Raven was written against the background of the collapse of the poet s hopes for
the improvement of mankind by political action and the ultimate failure of the French Revolution.
There is the theme of politics, death and love in The Raven which is pictured via symbolic
devices. To make the effect even more powerful, the poet contrasts the particular symbols in
dialectical pairs, such as the rose and the raven, sun and moon, or day and night. The dialectics
create a certain tension and the tension is the fate to the realms of wonder.
Coleridge loved experiments with words, symbols and metaphors. Relating the poem to the social
context of the time, the raven, the woodman, the oak tree and other symbols show Coleridge s
disappointment and fear of the French Revolution of 1789. The time and circumstances of writing
the poem is also political as it was published in 1798, during the French Revolution. Coleridge
wishes that one day virtue, joy, life and love win against vice, despair, hatred and death in this poem.
The poem is introduced as a Christmas tale. It invites the reader to enter the spirit of times of
wonder and to let the imagination flourish. Just as the poem begins, the first circle of life is

Exoticism In Carmen And Benjamin Britten s Death In Venice
Ralph P. Locke s theory of musical exoticism takes form through a spectrum that ranges from pure
musical exoticism to transcultural composing. However the main requirement of exoticism is the
notion of conjuring up a specific place or group of people as being perceived as different from
the audience culture. In terms of pure exoticism, the composer willingly incorporates exotic
sounding elements in order to mark a specific group or place as foreign. Transcultural composing
is the other facet of exoticism. It is different in that it is not intended to marginalize any exotic
group, rather it is a mix of Western and non western styles. While both George Bizet s Carmen and
Benjamin Brittens Death In Venice incorporate exoticism, they each take on an opposite form of
exoticism. Bizet s use of stereotypical gypsy music, as well as the portrayal of Carmen, explicitly
marginalize and construct Carmen as different. Carmen s lack of Spanish descent and her Gypsy
ethnicity are constructed as different via musical and performative aspects of the opera. Within the
exoticism framework, Bizet s carmen is an example of pure exoticism. In contrast, Britten s Death
In Venice is an example of transcultural composing because the other being marginalized is
homosexuality, which is an identity that Britten is apart of and is not exclusive to any one group.
George Bizet s Carmen was an opera that followed a Gypsy woman named Carmen in Seville,
Spain. Carmen was characterized as being a gypsy

the pixel domain. Detection of the watermark can be done by correlating the pixels values with
expected pixel values. The drawbacks of this technique is limited information embedded, less
resistant to noise and compression and less robust to geometric attacks. These techniques are
abandoned recently[17]. Some common spatial domain algorithms include Least Significant
Bit(LSB)Modification, Patchwork, Texture Block Coding, Correlation based, SSM modulation
based etc. The most commonly used algorithm is LSB.
1)Least Significant bit(LSB)

A remarkable feature of this technique is the high robustness to any kind of distortion, since both
image areas are distorted in a similar way, which means that the watermark recovery by
autocorrelation still works [23].
B.Transform domain
Transform domain method takes advantage of properties of alternate domains by modifying
transform coefficients to support additional features. Transform domain method is divided into
frequency domain and wavelet domain.
1)Frequency domain
In frequency domain, we insert watermark into the coefficients of a transformed image[24] and
then watermarked image is inverted to obtain image in spatial domain.[24] The approaches used in
frequency domain are JPEGbased[ 25],spread spectrum [26],[27] and content based approaches
[28].Frequency image transformations include the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), Discrete
Cosine Transform (DCT) and others.
a)Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT)
Fourier transform is a powerful tool for analyzing the components of a stationary signal (signal in
which there is no change in the properties of signal) [29]. It is a powerful tool for processing
signals that are composed of some combination of sine and cosine signals (sinusoids) [30]. Fourier
coefficients have two components phase and magnitude[31]. One of the main advantage of DFT is
that it is rotation, Translation and scaling invariant which helps it in recovering from geometrical
distortions. Licks algorithm [32] is one example.

The Truman Show Thesis Statement
1.Introduction
The film, The Truman Show (1998) is about the man named Truman Burbank, a first child who is
legally adopted legally by the broadcasting company and been unknowingly publicizing his entire
life as an entertaining show to the whole world. Although he lives in the world where everything is
manipulated, at least for him, he is just like a normal man with own family, friends, and job. The
difference between others and Truman lies on the taboo that Truman has attained through the
traumatic event of losing his own father. His taboo is that he is incapable of living the city,
Seahaven as leaving the city signifies knowing the truth of his life. The film majorly depicts the
moment when Truman realized skepticism around his entire life and departs the journey to find the
truth and real identity
Throughout this journey to find the truth, lots of similarities between the life of Truman and
Siddhartha can be found. By depicting his life as a parallel version of Siddhartha s life, the idea of
spiritual journey and enlightenment is indirectly shown in the film. Furthermore, The Truman Show

manipulator and Truman as unwanted unconsciousness prisoner. By wearing How Is It Going To
End pin, Sylvia tries to reveal Truman s own identity and to find his own free will and suggests
even in the world of perfect determinism, the future is still uncertain and no one including
Christof absolutely sure on how Truman s life would be ended. As included in Dhammapada,
Oneself indeed is one s savior, for what other savior there be? With oneself well restrained one
obtains a savior difficult to find (Eknath, 1986). Sylvia desire Truman to have free will and be one s

Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay
Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in
economics during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major
aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of
action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such
actions could occur and how game theorytruly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the
underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that
would increase their profits.
Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies
for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action
depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by
John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co
written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory.
The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has
produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory
provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a
duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a
decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am

time. To perform the research only 15,000 employees have been chosen out of 69,000, which
roughly denotes 21% of the whole employees. Multiple variables of data can be captured at a time
as participants are required to provide detail information such as name, gender, address etc. while
doing the survey. Captured data can be used for various other research. Through this particular
research it can be find out those other jobs which are high in demand too. After comprehensive
checking, analysing and filtering the research regarding job satisfaction in banking industry, these
findings can be used as theory or step for further depth research study. Disadvantages of cross
sectional design include:

patients need to get done, if the computer says it s been too long then the medical assistant must
call them patients see if they plan on having them tests done. This is an all day thing if you have
a break with patients you are on the phone. For the most part, medical assistants do not leave at 5
pm. It is very important to know your job duties as a medical assistant and, accurate with the
information you accumulate from your patients as you are their advocate. You communicate
with family, doctors, specialists, other health care workers concerning your patient s needs. The

services they do that another provider doesn t do such as, DR. Z does some common
adjustments of bones and, also monitors pain for patients that have pain issues with some
addiction tendencies. He will refer to the social worker on site to discuss and maintain any

The Right Influence
Film is a powerful medium to communicate through. Film can also be easily exploited. In the
beginning, the first inventors were not interested in film being a largely entertainment and cultural
phenomena but as a scientific breakthrough. Due to the introduction of film in the nineteenth
century, nationalism recently has been intensified by the increasing globalization of international
filmand consequently resulting in totalitarian cinema which later directly reflects international

As film was introduced to China in the 1920s, China wanted to transform film into an indigenous
art form in the hope of finding a sense of cultural security (Hu 35). China constantly was being
bombarded with foreign intervention and China wanted to cling to their traditional values and
ideas. Further analysis in the various Chinese styles of nationalism demonstrates how political
parties affected filmmaking in the 1930s. The Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang Part,
also called the Nationalist Party, initiated the Left Wing Film Movement and the Nationalist Film
Movement presented two competing discourses of nationalism. The CCP rendered the class
struggle with its advocacy of nationalism through films while the KMT endorsed the idea of
national survival by advocating Confucian values to maintain Chinese tradition. In both situations,
each party claimed that they represented the interests of the entire nation through filmmaking (Hu

  • 2. Ceramics Scholarship Essay Growing up I have developed interests and abilities that continue to provide me endless satisfaction and joy: literature, creative writing, friends, and art. These things are my foundation, my fun and my life. Ceramics is one of my true passions. It began when I was very young and continued through a 5 week summer program at Choate in 2016, and now at Fay as my favored art class. At Choate, I advanced significantly in ceramics, learning and developing new clay and glazing techniques. One of the methods I created was a marbling technique which impressed my fellow students and was used by upper classmates for the rest of the summer. In my present ceramics class at Fay, I have worked hard on hand building pieces, whistles, and using slabs to create boxes, vases, and tea sets. I am hoping to get onto the Varsity Art team next year. Varsity Art is a ninth grade art class where advanced art students are placed together to work and learn new techniques. The class focuses on sketching, painting, sculpting and painting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doniger. This has helped me to be adept at writing as well. Now, literature and creative writing are two of my favorite subjects. This past year, while working with my seventh grade teacher, Adam Frick, I had to write a paper on my personal life and what made me unique and special. Despite my love for writing, this was an arduous task for me. Writing about myself is more challenging sometimes than writing about almost anything else! Friendship is something that almost everyone needs or has. I have many friends and I am so thankful for them. One of the most wonderful elements of my experience at Fay is the opportunity to meet people my age, ranging from Thailand to Russia to California. I feel that true friends are extremely important because they are there through hard times and are always there to talk to and can put a smile on my face. Friendship is the essence of ... • 3. Explain Why It Is Important To Be In Control Of Paperwork It is important to be in control of our paperwork; we don t always have control over what we receive in the form of paperwork and most of that tends to come from our mail. What we do have control over is how we deal with this source of clutter. With that in mind, let s look at a good way to deal with our mail. Most people receive mail six days a week, this may depend on your specific location. Sometimes there are days when all that you receive is junk mail mail that serves no purpose other than trying to sell you something or get you to donate money or some other distracting topic. We are all in the habit of getting our mail daily since that is the usual delivery schedule but does that mean we have to let it occupy our space and time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Notes On Blue Aspects Of Green Infrastructure Joshua Chia Design Literature review Introduction The topic of this literature review seeks to explore; how can a biophilic approach to blue infrastructure in urban spaces increase the well being and resilience of a community? A wide range of material was investigated, from published academic articles to books. This review will not cover the topic of climate change, case studies or the essence of well being itself, it does explore how landscape elements might influence our perception of well being. The sources essentially break down the main topic into separate sections, exploring how they are linked together and providing a coherent investigation of the topic. Article 1: Blue aspects of green infrastructure. Sustainable Development Applications Analysis: Iwona Wagner sheds light on how green spaces in urban areas might adopt a blue infrastructure approach to improving water balance in the urban landscape. The article opens with a brief overview of the importance of maintaining water cycles in highly modified environments. It stresses the integration of ecological processes into water management practices, resulting in design solutions. Examples include bio filtration systems and retention ponds that purify and retain stormwater on site. Their aim is to allow local aquifers to recharge and reduce the risk of floods and drought. (1) In my opinion, this design approach allows landscape architecture to transcend its ornamental reputation into a medium that encourages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Negligent audits and reviews by KPMG LLP, the U.S. member firm of KPMG International, led to New Century s collapse, according to lawsuits filed yesterday in state court in Los Angeles and federal court in New York. KPMG advised New Century to alter the way it calculated reserves for repurchasing mortgage loans that didn t meet certain conditions, according to the Los Angeles complaint. Mistakes in calculation grew to more than $300 million and repurchase requests soared to $8 billion once New Century s true financial condition was known, the complaint said. The company could no longer borrow money to finance its lending business and collapsed owing billions. Professional Standards Any claim that we acquiesced to client demands is unsupportable, Ginsburg said. KPMG acted in accordance with professional standards in New Century, and we will vigorously defend our audit work. Last year, a report by bankruptcy court examiner Michael J. • 10. Why Do Gun Controls Cause Violent Crime controls cause more violent crime, why would many states with the lowest homicide rates also have relatively low gun control laws? There is variably no connection to high gun ownership rates and higher amounts of crime. There are only 6 states in which 50 percent of the household s own firearms that is Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, West Virginia and Wyoming. If guncontrol advocates are correct about guns, these states would have much more higher crime rates. Data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 4 of the 6 states ranked in the top half of states having the lowest homicide rates. Two of the states, Idaho and Wyoming are in the top in the top six. Further, many cities with very low legal gun ownership rates and stringent gun control laws, such as Chicago, have extremely high gun related murder rates. This has little hope of working in the United States, though, where most gun owners want to keep their firearms, however even if this were to be effective, how would the government stop newly illegal guns from flooding into the country across America s massive, largely unguarded borders? A study published in 2013 by the Trans Border Institute and Igarape Institute estimates an average of 253,000 firearms cross the U.S. Mexico border every year. Earlier in 2017, the Canadian government reported it believes there are greater than 1 million prohibited guns in its country, and Canadian officials believe most of the firearms were brought there from the United States. These figures prove that without massive border security improvements which, ironically, most gun control advocates oppose there s no way a substantial reduction in guns could ever ... • 11. Benefits Of Opportunity Cost For Opportunity Costs Human wants are unlimited but the resources are limited. Therefore, it is not possible to fulfil all the human desires. As a result, scarcity arises. Scarcity is the condition where the human desires cannot be fulfilled due to the limitation of available resources. Hence, to fulfil one wish, we give up another which in economicsis termed as the opportunity costs. Due to limited resources and due to unavailability, individuals and society are forced to incur opportunity costs. Opportunity cost is the second best alternative that one gives up. Due to the limitations of resources, human chooses the most viable options as per the benefits and costs. The diagram above shows the Production Possibility Curve. It shows the level of satisfaction as per the consumption of coke and Pizza. The points A, B, C, D E shows the maximum level of output one can achieve. Any point below the curve is inefficient and any point beyond the curve is unachievable. In order to enjoy 15 pizzas, one should give up all the coke or in order to enjoy 40 cokes, one should give up all the pizzas. 2 pizzas which can be termed as opportunity cost. The opportunity cost to have 30 cokes is the 5 pizzas that we give up because in that point we can have only 10 pizzas. Therefore, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Animal Vaporization According to Dickerson et al., many animals, including dogs, have loose skin that is beneficial to shaking off water. Through video evidence, it was determined that the maximum deflection of dog fur while shaking is 90В°. The average dog s dermal tissue, all substance between the fur and muscles, has a maximum deflection of 60В°, measured by rotating the skin around the dog s bodies while standing stationary. Through subtraction, it can be deduced that the maximum vertebral deflection is 30В°. This extra skin is advantageous, as it triples the amplitude at which the fur oscillates. An animal will shake at the maximum speed possible, in attempts to shed the most water. A greater amplitude will increase the distance over which the fur travels, О”d,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vaporization is a process that requires an input in energyto allow the liquid molecules to overcome intermolecular attractions and separate, which would be partially taken from the animal. George S. Bakken calculated an estimate coefficient for this issue, providing the efficiency of evaporation, (heat of vaporization supplied by the animal)/(heat of vaporization supplied by the animal + heat of vaporization supplied by the environment), to be approximately .37 for a large sized dog of torso diameter 20 centimeters (Bakken, 1976). Further, through observation, it was seen, on average, an animal would be able to remove up to 70 percent of its accumulated water via shaking (Dickerson, et al., 2012). Given the heat of vaporization formula, q=mHv, where q=heat, m=mass of the water, and Hv=heat of vaporization, the heat loss in an animal through water evaporation can be calculated. A. K. Dickerson et al. distinguished a trend for the relation between the mass of an animal and the mass of the water held by its fur: MWater=0.047MAnimal0.97. Lastly, the heat of vaporization of water is 2.257x106 J/kg. Thus, the simulated calculation of energy loss due to evaporation in a large dog is found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The biggest breach of national security was on September 11, 2001 which ended in the compromise of the trust of American people because they had felt lied to and vulnerable all because of a broken pact and a failure to protect America with an agency founded to prevent such a catastrophe. Although the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) already permitted the administration to wiretap on an emergency basis and apply for warrants retroactively, the administration maintained that FISA was too cumbersome when urgent issues of national security were at stake. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales offered two justifications for the legality of the domestic spying program, asserting that the president had the inherent authority under the Constitution, as commander in chief, to engage in this kind of activity and that Congress, when it authorize[d] the president to use all necessary and appropriate force against al Qaeda in 2001, indirectly sanctioned it. Critics objected that the wiretapping infringed on civil liberties, sidestepped the legislative branch, and placed the president above the law. In August 2006, a federal judge in Detroit ruled the wiretapping program unconstitutional. Understanding Why Race, Ethnicity And Nativity 4.3 Focused analysis on main ODW We now focus on understanding why Race, ethnicity and nativity , (i.e., culture), and Household economic characteristics (i.e., household as an economic agent) are the most well connected determinant nodes in the ODW network. The visualization in Figure 6a offers a graphical overview of the ODW network removing the links that do not directly connect culture determinant. This visualization displays this node high connectivity within the model (links with 88.89% of other determinants) as a reason behind its main relevance, leaving out just two nodes, Household type and Occupational standing . Similarly, a black loop around the node represents the determinantВґs own weight (26.54) that renders its number of inner links adjusted by the amount of binary nodes. Culture determinant`s incoming (54%) and outgoing (46%) connections afforded for both supportive and influencing roles in the model, although the supportive role prevailed as the ratio between the outgoing and incoming (out/in) links was 0.86. This supportive role had likewise been preeminent in the subset of cyclic relationships established with other nodes by both incoming and outgoing links, which accounted for 76.92% of the culture node s connections, as the out/in link weight ratio remained below the unit for all the cases (0.14 in average). • 17. Summary Of Emma Bovary Today, women are free to get divorced, become CEOs of public and private companies, and vote. In 19th century France, women s options were severely limited as they did not have equal property or contract rights as men nor the right to vote. As a result, women had an extremely isolated existence and marriage was the accepted way to gain wealth and social status . Women were defined by their husbands and their power was subordinated to their authority. While many women were content with this trapped life, Emma Bovary is not. She is trapped in a web of ennui: The feeling of mental weariness and dissatisfaction produced by want of occupation, or lack of interest in present surroundings or employments. She insists on gaining authority through forbidden relationships with men outside her marriage, for there is more to life than her uninspired husband. Emma s desire to write her own life story, resembling those of the novels she read in the convent as a young girl, is her ultimate destruction as it drives her into an endless cycle of ennui and finally suicide. Shortly after her marriage, Emma attempts to escape her ennui through writing and the power of words. When Emma marries Charles Bovary and becomes Madame Bovary, she falls into a life [that] was cold as a garret facing north, and ennui, the silent spider, was weaving its web in the darkness, in every corner of her heart (38). It is hard to imagine how different the world would be if today s society still used ancient indian traditions. A certain study indicated that the swamps where the indians lived in the Chesapeake were full of casualties. It was filled with disease and a vast variety of illnesses. With the high risk for disease it forced the Europeans to adjust several social forms that were being brought over from England. Alienated from the remainder of the world, the indians did not have a strong enough immune system to defend the diseases. The city s walls made the city impenetrable, and without gunpowder to blow the wall to bits, the city may never have fallen. These types have examples are seen all of the time in history, from the most basic of border skirmishes, to the largest of battles. Because of its widescale use, it changed how warfare was fought as a whole. Before the 13th century, two armies would shoot a few arrows at each other and then charge with swords and shields. Subsequently, armies that just flat out charged straight forward would be obliterated by cannons and other fiery weapons. After the medieval era, and into the Renaissance era, castles were a lot less common. The point of castles were to provide a main defense for people higher up on the social ladder. The castle had to be near impenetrable without a large force attacking it, and it had to be easily defended. This was completely swept away with gunpowder, because a force could just show up with a cannon, blow a couple holes in the walls, and run right in and capture the city. Despite the abundance in its natural existence, Hydrogen can also be obtained through processes such as the electrolysis of water and methanol steam conversion. Hydrogen as a fuel is capable of the replacement of most of the other sources of energy. However, Hydrogen faces numerous obstacles to its entry into the economy and the utilization by human beings. The technology to contain and manage hydrogen as a fuel is already present. However, the hindrances bar the launch of hydrogen as a basic fuel. The essay discusses the various obstacles to the hydrogen economy such as the market entry issues and issues related to policies. Thesis statement: The government ownership of fossil fuel reservoirs and gas outlet companies is the main obstacle to the launch and adoption of the hydrogen economy. Background and history The use of hydrogen as a fuel requires the adoption of the fuel cells technology for their role in the reaction activity between hydrogen and hydrogen for the production of energy. The fuel cells convert more of their energy potential from the fuel source as compared to the regular gasoline fuels. The insignificance of the impact caused by the bi products of such reactions makes it the much better option than the fossil fuels that face the threat of exhaustion. • 32. The Rationality And Moral Significance Of Emotions Love, joy, grief, pride, shame, hate, fear, envy. We all have emotions and we recognise emotions in others. It is remarkable how often we are wrong about our own emotions and misread the emotions of others. Philosophers often call emotions appropriate or inappropriate. Virtue ethicists put a lot of importance to emotions and claim that emotions are an essential motivator of ethical behaviour and we should ethically assess people s emotions responses directly (de Sousa 2014). The rationality and moral significance of emotions remains debatable due to the ambiguous questions about their justification. Many emotions seem to involve positive or negative evaluations of their objects e.g. to be angry at me is to evaluate me negatively. However, emotions are not necessarily tied to evaluative judgements, because we can be irrationally angry at someone even though we judge that they have done nothing wrong. And so, D Arms Jacobson (2000) describe emotions as involving evaluative presentations that do not force us to make the evaluative judgement, but put pressure on us to make judgement. The question then, is how can we evaluate emotional responses and whether such emotional responses are true or fitting or prudentially useful or morally right? Many emotions are associated with beliefs or judgements. Empirical thinking is primarily linked to experience in the sense that perceptual experiences can provide reasons for empirical belief and judgement (Goldie 2004). One ... Math Philosophy Paper Math is developing concepts or standards that s important for teaching mathematics to students from Pre K to high school. In our changing world, those who understand and can do mathematics will have significant opportunities and options for shaping their future. (NCTM 2000, p.50). The two important tools to be an effective teacher is knowledge of mathematics and how students learn mathematics. The purposes of math educationeffect our life since the time we were able to walk. We were taught how to count on our fingers to being able to write our numbers to ten. Then as we got older, concepts were more challenging and involved critical thinking to solve the problems. In society today, math is being utilized in simple to complex avenues such as grocery shopping, measuring, budgeting, investments, architecture, science and technology to name a few. If we take a look around our environment signs, buildings, bridges, streets and just the different patterns and shapes all relate back to mathematics. My role as a math teacher in the classroom would be creating an inviting math environment for my students, being able to explain math to all my students in ways that they understand and model math in an effective way. This poem tells the story of a raven, who flies far and gathers much knowledge. Coleridge s The Raven was written against the background of the collapse of the poet s hopes for the improvement of mankind by political action and the ultimate failure of the French Revolution. There is the theme of politics, death and love in The Raven which is pictured via symbolic devices. To make the effect even more powerful, the poet contrasts the particular symbols in dialectical pairs, such as the rose and the raven, sun and moon, or day and night. The dialectics create a certain tension and the tension is the fate to the realms of wonder. Coleridge loved experiments with words, symbols and metaphors. Relating the poem to the social context of the time, the raven, the woodman, the oak tree and other symbols show Coleridge s disappointment and fear of the French Revolution of 1789. The time and circumstances of writing the poem is also political as it was published in 1798, during the French Revolution. Coleridge wishes that one day virtue, joy, life and love win against vice, despair, hatred and death in this poem. The poem is introduced as a Christmas tale. • 39. Exoticism In Carmen And Benjamin Britten s Death In Venice Ralph P. Locke s theory of musical exoticism takes form through a spectrum that ranges from pure musical exoticism to transcultural composing. However the main requirement of exoticism is the notion of conjuring up a specific place or group of people as being perceived as different from the audience culture. In terms of pure exoticism, the composer willingly incorporates exotic sounding elements in order to mark a specific group or place as foreign. Transcultural composing is the other facet of exoticism. It is different in that it is not intended to marginalize any exotic group, rather it is a mix of Western and non western styles. While both George Bizet s Carmen and Benjamin Brittens Death In Venice incorporate exoticism, they each take on an opposite form of exoticism. Bizet s use of stereotypical gypsy music, as well as the portrayal of Carmen, explicitly marginalize and construct Carmen as different. Carmen s lack of Spanish descent and her Gypsy ethnicity are constructed as different via musical and performative aspects of the opera. Within the exoticism framework, Bizet s carmen is an example of pure exoticism. In contrast, Britten s Death In Venice is an example of transcultural composing because the other being marginalized is homosexuality, which is an identity that Britten is apart of and is not exclusive to any one group. George Bizet s Carmen was an opera that followed a Gypsy woman named Carmen in Seville, Spain. Carmen was characterized as being a gypsy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Truman Show Thesis Statement 1.Introduction The film, The Truman Show (1998) is about the man named Truman Burbank, a first child who is legally adopted legally by the broadcasting company and been unknowingly publicizing his entire life as an entertaining show to the whole world. Although he lives in the world where everything is manipulated, at least for him, he is just like a normal man with own family, friends, and job. The difference between others and Truman lies on the taboo that Truman has attained through the traumatic event of losing his own father. His taboo is that he is incapable of living the city, Seahaven as leaving the city signifies knowing the truth of his life. The film majorly depicts the moment when Truman realized skepticism around his entire life and departs the journey to find the truth and real identity Throughout this journey to find the truth, lots of similarities between the life of Truman and Siddhartha can be found. • 43. Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in economics during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur and how game theorytruly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their profits. Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory. The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Further analysis in the various Chinese styles of nationalism demonstrates how political parties affected filmmaking in the 1930s.
