A Study Of Provincial Life By George Eliot
Introduction
Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in
eight installments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch
during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant
themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion, hypocrisy,
political reform, and education
Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, this act was for the
benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not
equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had
no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added
profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only
possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in
Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and
unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of
happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible
never becomes completely tuneful.

Electronic Voting System in Punp
Original Question:
What is the best way to manually count ballot papers in block vote (BV) systems?
With first past the post systems, one can easily pile the ballots for each candidate, and then tally the
totals. Where there is more than one vote recorded on ballot papers, some kind of tallying system
seems unavoidable. What techniques are used in counting block vote ballots elsewhere?
Introduction
Vote counting is one of the most crucial stages in the election process. Failure to complete the count
and transmit results in a quick, transparent and accurate manner can jeopardize public confidence in
the elections and will directly affect whether candidates and political parties accept the final results.

The set of resources available should also be taken in consideration, as they will greatly influence the
count, balancing integrity, accuracy, and speed.
Most of the experts involved in this question believe that manually counting the ballots per a call and
tally approach can be a time consuming process, but on the other hand that it also helps guaranteeing
transparency, integrity and trust in the system. Basic training of the electoral officials, for example,
could be important because the effectiveness of any vote count process depends on the counting staff.
Voter education is also important, as every individual should be aware of how the votes will be
translated into seats, and how the count will proceed. And finally, the transmission of results should be
structured and transparent in order to guarantee the acceptance of the general outcome of the election.
Block Vote Case study: 1989 elections in Jordan
The November 1989 general elections in Jordan were the first competitive ones for nearly thirty years.
The country adopted the Block Vote electoral system, where voters had as many votes as there were
seats to be filled within the district, but results turned out to be very controversial. Although it is
difficult to make political analysis (political parties were banned), the University of Jordan has
estimated that

The Interlopers Short Story
The Compare and Contrast of The Story of an Hour And The Interlopers In the two stories The
Interlopers and The Story of an Hour, there are many similarities and many differences. With different
authors, the plots hold very different themes, climax, and rising actions. Though the two stories are
very different, there are some similarities when you look close enough. The Story of an Hour revolves
around a woman named Louise Mallard who has heart trouble. When her sister Josephine breaks the
news to her that her husband was a part of a lethal train accident, Louise does not take the news well
and locks herself in her room. While in solitude, she looks out an open window. She sees trees, smells
approaching rain, and hears a peddler yelling out what he s selling. She realizes with the death of her
husband brought her a freedom. She could now live for herself. She opens the door and is met with her
sister who helps her walk down the stairs. Once they almost make it down however, the door swings
open and in walks her husband who was presumed to have died. Louise then has a fatal heart attack
right then and there in surprise and joy at seeing her husband once again. In The Interlopers, its speaks
of a generational loathing between two families. It began when Ulrich von Gradwitz, the local
nobleman, was patrolling a narrow stretch of scrubby woodland that borders his much larger and more
valuable holdings of forestland. The land that he patrols, however, acquires its value

Tom Cruise Pre Crime
In the movie that stars Tom Cruise as the head detective for the pre crime unit there are several
intriguing ideas going on. John Anderson who is played by Tome Cruise gets his information from
what is known as the pre cogs who are a group of two males and one female. These pre cogs are able
to see into the future when a murder is going to take place. These three people are floating in a liquid
unable to move to leave. They stay lying there all day and night just to serve the purpose of warning
the pre crime police of danger that is suppose to come. Which sets up our first dilemma that takes
place during this movie.
These three people or pre cogs because in the movie they are not really thought as being human beings
are really imprisoned. They don t have the ability to leave or go home; instead they are forced into
drugs that keep them somewhat conscious but not too much as to know of their surroundings. They
were being used really for someone else s gain, which turned out in the end not to be the pre crime

138). In this movie however, the pre crime police task force violates that right. They instead choose to
believe in the belief that we are predestined in the case of committing murder. They fail to believe that
people can choose the path that they take in life and whether or not they want to commit a certain act
whatever it shall be. A person has free will and with that power they have the ability to decide to
murder someone or not. The movie shows that at the end we do in fact have a choice to whether or not
we murder someone. Hence, the rationale behind arresting people who have yet to commit a crime
should be illegal and unethical. You are stripping that person of his or her rights and reaching the
belief that humans have no sense of free

The Camp Gyno Analysis
For my second media blog post, I selected the Youtube video The Camp Gyno, which can be found
here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XnzfRqkRxU). The storyline of the video revolves around
a pre teen girl at summer camp who initially feels like an outcast until she gets her first period. As the
first girl in the entire camp to get her period, she takes it upon herself to become the Camp Gyno and
teach the other girl campers all about menstruation. Her self appointed responsibilities include
demonstrating how menstruation works with a Dora the Explorer doll and a bottle of ketchup, handing
out (and controlling the distribution of) tampons, coaching (more like yelling at) other girls through
their cramps, and being an overall tyke sized tyrant of summer camp. Her days of period based
tyranny come to an end when the girls stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I found most interesting was the topics of menarche and menstruation were framed in the video.
There is a great deal of positivity about menstruation that I am unaccustomed to seeing here in the
United States. In western culture, menarche is not treated as a time of celebration; instead, it is treated
as a source of shame and embarrassment (Lorber, 2002). The video does the exact opposite. When the
girl first gets her period, she refers to it as the red badge of courage . She views menarche as a time of
celebration, seeing it as a marker of maturity as reflected by her appointing herself as the camp s gyno
. The video does a very effective job in defying the cultural taboo of discussion menstruation, treating
the topic with both equal amounts of humor and seriousness. Overall, I believe the Helloflo does a
phenomenal job in address issues in women s reproductive health, including preconception health,
contraceptives, postpartum depression, and menopause (CDC, 2015). I recommend checking out

WHAT ROLE DOES RELIGION, MORALITY, AND WORLDVIEW PLAY IN THE CREATION
OF PUBLIC POLICY?
Public policy is a statement that defines the procedures of an institution for the achievement of
consistency in decision making. It is the result of a political process, which involves enacting laws and
regulations to enable the addressing of public concern in a constitutional manner. The efficiency of a
government is founded on the presence of proper and reliable policy making procedures. The process
of policy creation is thus the implementation of the constitution by the employment of certain causes

Indeed, the conviction of religion gives humans the ability to stand against anyone and anything thus
making religious groups a force to reckon. Religion is a symbol that acts to establish powerful,
pervasive, and long lasting moods and motivation in men formulating conceptions of a general order
of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that they seem uniquely
realistic. Examples of this influence include the Islamic movement, the strong influence the Pope has
on the Catholic movement, and the impact the Pentecostal movement had on the US government. The
worldview contributes to the aspects of living, which include lifestyle, customs, thoughts,
philosophies, beliefs, and culture. These aspects seem to change with different generations causing
even greater conflict amongst interest groups in policymaking. Indeed, individuals in opposite factions
or groups may agree based on facts but sharply differ on conclusions simply because of their different
worldviews. A classic case of the worldviews influence is gay

Schizophrenia And Its Effects On The Brain
Schizophrenia is a mental psychotic disorder that diminishes the ability to distinguish reality from
fantasy. Schizophrenia ranges from Type I, which are positive symptoms caused by an excess of
functions to Type II, which are negative symptoms caused by a loss of functions within the brain.
Subtypes range from Paranoid to Disorganized schizophrenia. A wide variety of factors can provoke
anyone of these variations of schizophrenia, such as genes, an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, the
death of a loved one, or even stress. Symptoms of Type I Paranoid Schizophrenia include delusions
and auditory hallucinations, which revolve around them. According to 21st Century Psychology,
Anger, detachment, anxiety, argumentativeness, and a patronizing tone accompany paranoid
schizophrenia (302). The prince also has symptoms that complement paranoid schizophrenia, such as
disorganized speech, thinking and behavior. In Hamlet s case, grief caused by the death of his father
provokes stress induced Type I Paranoid Schizophrenia.
The grief Hamlet experiences leads to a buildup of stress, and eventually to a stress induced
hallucination. Hamlet idealizes King Hamlet as a strong commanding leader and loving father. The
very death of the King leaves Hamlet stricken with grief and without anyone to view idealistically.
This grief results in Hamlet thinking nobody can understand what he is going through. Hamlet
describes the extent of his depression: But I have that within which passeth

of his son as well as any support groups in the community and continue to implement the help of a
home health nurse. Focusing on how Mr. Yoder retains information best will be important here. We
can alter our teaching methods to match his needs. It will also be important to focus on his readiness
to learn. Using a multitude of techniques in Mr. Yoder s plan of care will help him be successful in his
discharge from the hospital. Implementing the assistance of community focused programs can help
give Mr. Yoder companionship. Support programs with the agencies on aging can be informative and

planning meals, and offer support, which Mr. Yoder would benefit from all of those. Jon, Mr. Yoder s
son can also assist in educating and re enforcing things to help Mr. Yoder remember what needs to be
done, assisting him with his own accountability for his health. With the help of his son Jon, we can

is that this new recruits are available during shortage of labour which could help in the ease of demand

The Characteristics Of Characters In Microserfs By Douglas...
Experience shared with other people provided important knowledge that helps people find their place
in the world. The novel, Microserfs by Douglas Coupland displays these traits by having reader follow
the diary of Daniel Underwood as he starts to wonder if life has more meaning than just working.
Firstly, love helps a person understand to improve oneself, that they always have a person to talk too
and that love can make people cherish each other. Secondly, Loss can impact people by having them
deny about the loss, accept the loss and remember the loss. Finally, friendships help people understand
that there is more to life than work, friends are always there to help that friends can provide a
comfortable environment. The experience people go through with each others helps people to figure
out where they belong. To begin, the experience of love teaches people to always improve oneself,
people with significant others always have a person they can talk too and that love can make people
cherish others. Starting off, Relationships teaches people to always improve oneself. This is shown in
the novel when Daniel, in response to more men starting to notice Daniel s girlfriend: Karla as a
women he starts to go to the gym and improve himself. This is proof of how love can teach people to
improve themselves because Daniel is scared that Karla might get embarrassed to be with him due to
his appearance, so he decides to improve himself to make him more presentable when they go

How To Write An Interview With Mr Batiste
Mr Batiste,
I had the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Cadwalader last night about a couple of issues that happened
this week. I would like to resubmit my request that he be removed from her class. This week she
frightened him by not allowing him go to speak with Mr. Batiste and stated. We can talk alone in the
hallway. Don t go. He went without her permission. He instead spoke with Carol Marshall.
This is the incident as I understand it. The class was told to read a story during class. (I have been
reading his Lit stories to him at home so) he opted to do his Lit homework in class and read at home.
Mrs. Cadwalader asked why he wasn t reading. When he tried to tell her, he became extremely
embarrassed about his reading. He instead handed him a card from DrAntos Hogan explaining what

My personal observations from last nights conferences...
Every teacher besides Mrs. Cadwalader has stated that Michael has turned a corner. He is a model
student. He wants good grades and works hard to get them. Looks to improve himself by reviewing
errors. He with will to help other students in a respectful manner
Mrs. Cadwaladers remarks...He lies about handing in homework. He doesn t communicate for himself.
Her comments were inconsistent with those of the other teachers.
I now understand fully why Michael was afraid to talk to her on Wednesday and instead removed him
self.
I would like immediate attention to this matter and restate my request of Michael s immediate removal
from that class. He can take any other teacher. All trust between parent and teacher is also now broken
as was earlier between student and teacher.

Breakfast didn t have to many mosquitoes in them, and rounding up the oxen, chicken, and cows were
quite easier than normal. Today is going to be a good day I thought to myself. We were all traveling
behind the leader, when he stopped at this bubbling pool of water. He screamed, We re here! I had no
clue what here was but I just followed what everyone else was doing. They said we could wash our
clothes here and clean up everything, so I did. It was very warm water, and I thought it was boiling but
it was just from ancient volcanic activity. All of our clothes were washed and I was right about the
good day I was going to have. For some reason I wasn t sore or tired when I woke up, so that led me
to believe that I was going to have a good day. We left Soda Spring around lunch time and our next
stop was Fort Hall. I heard Fort Hall you can trade things for hats and other types of clothing. When
we get there I m going to buy a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes. I heard you can also buy other
things like repair kits and that stuff. We reached Fort Hall at about 6 o clock at night. We decided to
rest for the rest of the day, because there s no point to go out for 2 hours to move on the journey. In the
morning we left at 6 because we forgot to wake up, and we left Fort Hall. About a week and a half
later we came upon the Three Island Crossing. Now we had to cross the snake river. Our choices were
to ride a ferry along the shallow looking river, or float along the river with the wagon and making our
animals swim. I talked to Mr. Swanson about this because I didn t want to try and guide my oxen and
cow along the river, that just seems outrageous. I finally convinced him to make us take the ferry,

A Psychoanalytic Interpretation of Rapunzel Essay
A Psychoanalytic Interpretation of Rapunzel
The familiar story of Rapunzel, as told by the brothers Jacob Ludwig Carl and Wilhelm Carl Grimm,
takes on new meaning with a psychoanalytic interpretation. It is a complex tale about desire,
achievement, and loss. The trio of husband, wife, and witch function as the ego, id, and superego
respectively to govern behavior regarding a beautiful object of desire, especially when a prince
discovers this object.
The story begins in a rural house where a man and woman live without children, near a walled garden
tended by a frightening witch. The first line of the story tells us that they yearn for a child. It is clear
that there exists in this house an almost tangible feeling of desire ... Show more content on

If the unconscious mind is obscure and dark, and the conscious mind is clear and sunny, then dusk is
where the two blend briefly. This tendency to act at dusk further confirms the idea that this man
represents the ego, which is the reconciliation of both id and superego. He too is nameless.
When the witch who owns the garden discovers the trespass, she brings down a harsh verdict. If the
woman must continue to have the rampion, then the witch will receive their child. The witch
represents laws and social constraints, corresponding to the repressive superego. The husband must
again play referee and weigh his wife s desires and the witch s rules. He is not strong enough to
overpower the id element of his household. He hastily agrees to the deal, and the witch transforms the
desirable root from her garden into a child.
The girl who results from this ordeal takes a new form as the popular object of desire, but little has
changed. Her name is Rapunzel, meaning rampion, the radish that her mother sought. A childless
woman wishes for rampion, receives it, and loses it in the form of her daughter. Here, the witch is
more in control than the other characters.
Continuing in her position as the moral control, the witch tries to protect her Rapunzel by locking her
up. This attempt to preserve the girl s chastity ultimately fails because a prince discovers her when he
hears her singing. Song is a symbol of

A Proposal For A Legalization Of Abortion
Executive Summary The purpose of this policy paper is to address the egregious violation of rights
that Ireland has submitted it s citizens to by outlawing abortion procedures. This proposal calls
primarily for a decriminalization of abortion and for the government to examine the religiosity of both
Ireland s political administration and the cultural view of abortion. The 2013 Protection of Life During
Pregnancy Act fails to protect the maternal health of woman and is failing due to the vagueness in
language and inconsistency in implementation. That being said, the source of the problem lies in the

Women can experience serious, life threatening, and sometimes fatal complications during a

by the The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, specifically
Article 16.1; The Right to Decide the Number and Spacing of Children (CEDAW). In December of
1985 Ireland acceded the Convention. Although Ireland did not ratify CEDAW and the document is
not legally binding, adhering to these human rights norms is an expectation that is on place on all the

Themes In Markus Zusak s The Book Thief
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak has definitely become my favorite historical fiction novels. From
the language used in this novel to the relationships developed, this novel has a more realistic feeling.
One of the many reasons why I enjoy this novel is because I think the relationship between Liesel and
Papa is very interesting. With Papa being an outcast among the adults of the town because he is not a
part of the Nazi party and Liesel being mocked at from people her age because she was illiterate, they
bond with one another and form a friendship. Whenever Liesel isn t at school or playing soccer with
the boys and Papa doesn t have any work, they spend the majority of that time together, doing
mediocre things, but enjoying it nonetheless;

Columbine High School Essay
COlumbine High School
On the morning of April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold approach Columbine High School,
in Jefferson County, Colorado. Armed with one 10 shot Hi Point model 995 carbine rifle, one Intratec
AB 10 (TEC 9) pistol, two Savage 12 gauge shotguns, and as many as ninety five explosive devices,
Harris and Klebold enter the school near the cafeteria. Upon doing so, they are met with the words
that God commanded unto Moses on Mount Sinai: Thou Shall Not Kill. Harris and Klebold tremble in
fear and shame for what they have come to accomplish. Dropping their weapons, the boys fall to their
knees, bow their heads in penance, and pray to God for forgiveness.
Instead of that scenario the boys fired off an estimated 900 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The logical assumption to make is that having God in school (in the form of the Ten Commandments)
would have prevented Columbine. That is quite a substantial claim, but it only shows the magnitude of
faith that some Christians place in the Word.
In 1999, an attempt to pass a law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools
(not coincidentally attached to a gun control bill) failed for reasons stated by People for the American
Way on their website:
First, posting the Ten Commandments is a solution in search of a non existent problem. Religious
Right rhetoric notwithstanding, religion and prayer have not been banned from public schools; in fact
the First Amendment protects students rights to pray, discuss religious views and read religious texts
in school. Second, posting the Ten Commandments would violate the First Amendment by requiring
schools to favor one religion over another; the Supreme Court ruled so in 1980.
What is at stake here is not a student s right to practice religion in school that right is already
guaranteed; rather, the Christian Right wants to be seen as doing something about school violence.
The Ten Commandments as touted by Tom DeLay become a symbol of spirituality, a means to gauge
both the morality of a school population and the pro activeness of the Christian Right in combating
school violence.
Not all in the Christian Right are so naïve as to think that the displaying of the Ten Commandments
is a panacea for

such as health issues, personal characteristics, motivation to learn, behaviour, sensory impairment,
disability and learning difficulties. Even before birth a child needs to reach many milestones and

A child with learning problems may be many developmental years behind their peers, this will have a
big impact on what they can do in all areas of development including physical skills, social skills and
intellectual skills. They may find it especially hard to interact with children of the same age or stay
interested in conversation. They may also need to have one to one lessons at school to help educate
them as they may not be at the same cognitive stage as peers. This may leave them feeling left out.
Children and young people are influenced by physical factors, environmental factors, social and
emotional factors plus economical factors. Mrs Lorna Stevens SH41481/CCC TASK 1.7 UNIT 1

Hauntology And Humanity
Two steps will sketch how the urban bind to new technicity. First, a description of the broader societal
move and second my more personal reasons for the transversal. The hauntology of cities i.e., a certain
sustained technical reticularity make the political animal called human possible. Moreover,
hauntology sustains humans. People, in turn, nurture new potential technics. The atmosphere created
by this dialectic contains both the potential to harm or heal (Cole Turner, 2011: 3 4) a potential

Later, we will return to the pharmacological interplay between hauntology and humanity when we
consider technics as tertiary memory. For now, it is enough to notice how cities are an arrangement of
technics, pulled into a contingent pharmakon, producing what Heidegger (2010: 38) called a poiesis,

A Comparison Of Christianity And Christianity
We as homo sapiens refer to religion or beliefs as a way to cope with issues and a pathway to God.
Which is why their are numerous unique yet similar religions out there, such as; Judaism, Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism and last but certainly not least Christianity. Each religion has quite the number
of followers, but Christianity has the most followers or believers. Christianity is practiced world wide
by 2.1 billion people, and are found most in the United States of America. They can also be found in
Indonesia, Central Asia or even in the Middle East.
The word Christian is actually Greek, which means followers of Christ. Christianity began with the
story of the Jesus of Nazareth. A prophet who is believed to be the son of God and his faithful
disciples 2000 years ago in Israel. It was during the Roman rule and Jesus Christ was a teacher. He
walked amongst the people and taught them about God and his new covenant, healed the sick and
tried to explain to them that sin would be the end of mankind. He caught the attention of plebeian
members, but rose suspicions amongst upper class people and the religion leaders. They saw him as
treacherous because he was making changes to already placed Roman laws. They warned the governor
of him but despite the warnings, the roman governor, Pontius Pilate saw nothing wrong with the man
and wanted to let him roam free and do as he pleased. Pontius was weak, in the end, he gave into peer
pressure and sentence Jesus Christ to death. Gave him

Populism In Latin America
Introduction.
In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any
scholar has a vision of what characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of
populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this respect, as many researchers at
different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech
and ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state.
In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when
the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political
strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct,
unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The
concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent
has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist
regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio
Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). Toward the end of XX beginning of XXI century the
emergence of new radical populist regimes occurred not only in Latin America but also in Eastern
Europe. However, the researchers did not rush to analyze the Eastern European regimes,

Research Paper On Marc Chagagall
Fantasy, magic, movement and life. These words describe the work of an extraordinary Artist, Marc
Chagall. At a young age, I came across one of his paintings, I and the Village, in a book I was reading.
This one painting impacted me and changed the way I viewed not only art, but the world. In this work
of art, Marc Chagall creates a world, a surface covered with representations of things... in which logic
and illustration have no importance. (Chagall). A world in which I wanted to live in. There is a peasant
and an animal, looking head to head, eye to eye with calm facial expressions. The animal, dreaming of
a perfect day. A man and woman in the middle of them, one upside down. Above them houses are
placed, upside down as well. At the very bottom is not just a plant, but a tree of life. This painting
comes to life with some geometric shapes that give a feeling of time moving by in a circular motion.
Chagall was ahead of his time. This masterpiece, created in 1911, expressed to me a wish, a theory,
that Chagall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We cared for the raccoons, deer, opossum, fox, chipmunks, squirrels, birds and many other creatures
just the same as we did care for our household pets. This one point in Chagall s painting, animals and
humans living on the same level, clicked with me at such a young age and it became on of my main

The haemostatic system is a process that keeps the blood in balance between bleeding and thrombosis.
In a healthy individual, blood is maintained in a stable flowing state and is able to rapidly form a

Factor V mutations include: Factor V Leiden, Factor V Cambridge and Factor V Hong Kong. Studies
have been conducted to see the prevalence of these mutations in patients who have been diagnosed
with venous thrombosis and its association with activated protein C resistance.
COAGULATION
Coagulation is a process where there is a blood clot formation at the site of an injured blood vessel.
Once there has been an injury to the blood vessel wall, vasoconstriction immediately occurs, and then
we get primary haemostasis. Platelet activation occurs in this process and they adhere to the
subendothelial complex. There is a formation of fibrin in this process and this leads to a haemostatic
plug being formed at the site of injury. Secondary haemostasis also occurs simultaneously with
primary haemostasis. In this process, tissue factors are involved in the initiation of the coagulation
cascade. The end result of the coagulation cascade is the activation of thrombin. Thrombin is an
important enzyme in haemostasis as it is needed for the conversion of fibrinogen to an insoluble fibrin
monomer to form the matrix of the clot and also it is important for further platelet activation. (Khan

Liquidity ratios definitely show that both companies were financially stable, but Exxon was in a better
situation than Mobil. The Exxon scurrent and quick ratios (0.57 and 0.91 correspondingly) were
higher than the Mobil s (0.48 and 0.67 correspondingly) and merged company had significantly
improved these results. Ratio of net current assets as a % of total assets (i.e. working capital to total
assets) was distorted after the merger (1.48) probably due to large divestitures that followed the deal.
Solvency status of companies also looked good. Though Exxon again showed its financial supremacy
with much higher interest coverage ratio (93.41 compared to Mobil s 7.78) Generally speaking the
better interest coverage ratio means less risk but also might be bad for future performance because of
the failure of the management to use additional funds for development. Debt to equity ratio was safe
and stable in both companies.
Combined company showed even superior results after the merger, which proved the correlation
between positive market reaction on the announcement event and success of the merger.

wholly owned subsidiary of Exxon Mobil. As a result, Exxon would hold 100% of Mobil s issued and

Essay about Citizenship, a Right and a Responsibility .
When I think of America I think of freedom and citizenship. The right to vote or the right of free
speech are aspects that, as citizens, we posses. Being born in America automatically gives you these
rights and many more, and most importantly, you become a citizen. Now, with citizenship comes
responsibility such as obeying the law and paying taxes. So if you follow these simple rules does this
make you an effective citizen? This question, in my opinion, is almost impossible to answer for a
number of reasons, which will be addressed in the following paper. It was extremely hard to come up
with a clear cut answer as to what an effective citizen entails. I grappled with this term through many
drafts and in the end came up with many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The money also goes to pay for police and fire protection which we depend upon every day, these
people are a necessity to our daily lives. Citizens must also abide by certain laws, which in the mind of
some citizens, is a sacrifice. My answer to them is that we are not in a state of nature and this is a price
you have to pay for living in a society. In their mind, if they were in a state of nature then they would
not have to abide by such laws. As John Locke pointed out, we all are here for the preservation of
mankind. We make these sacrifices for protection and, in the end, not only benefit the individual but
also benefit the community, society, or nation. (Locke, pgs. 170 171, 180 186). So each citizen, in
order to (in Abraham Lincoln s word s) form a more perfect union, must make certain sacrifices which
in the end, not only helps you but helps others, this is one of our responsibilities as citizens. Finally, in
regards to this paragraph, someone who DOES fulfill his or her responsibilities, are good citizens, but
that is not the whole definition of a good citizen, it is simply one part of a bigger picture.
The question can now be raised, if one follows and fulfills these responsibilities does that really make
them a good citizen? If a person follows the laws and pays his or her taxes, does that make them a
good or effective citizen? In my opinion, it all depends upon the person defining the term effective
citizenship. Each person has different beliefs and

Similarities Between Hamlet And August Wilson
In both August Wilson s The Piano Lesson and William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the apparitions
desperation for the vengeance of their death plays an extensive role in advancing the apex of the plays.
Though William Shakespeare s Hamlet, was written in the 16th century and The Piano Lesson by
August Wilson was written in the 20th century they both utilize the pivot idea of Supernaturality in
literature. In the tragic play Hamlet, the ghost of King Hamlet advances the protagonist of the play,

within brother and sister to rise. Sutter comes back after his death as a ghost to avenge his murder and

  • 3. A Study Of Provincial Life By George Eliot Introduction Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in eight installments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion, hypocrisy, political reform, and education Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, this act was for the benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible never becomes completely tuneful. • 4. Electronic Voting System in Punp Original Question: What is the best way to manually count ballot papers in block vote (BV) systems? With first past the post systems, one can easily pile the ballots for each candidate, and then tally the totals. Where there is more than one vote recorded on ballot papers, some kind of tallying system seems unavoidable. What techniques are used in counting block vote ballots elsewhere? Introduction Vote counting is one of the most crucial stages in the election process. Failure to complete the count and transmit results in a quick, transparent and accurate manner can jeopardize public confidence in the elections and will directly affect whether candidates and political parties accept the final results. (The ACE Encyclopedia) Block ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The set of resources available should also be taken in consideration, as they will greatly influence the count, balancing integrity, accuracy, and speed. Most of the experts involved in this question believe that manually counting the ballots per a call and tally approach can be a time consuming process, but on the other hand that it also helps guaranteeing transparency, integrity and trust in the system. Basic training of the electoral officials, for example, could be important because the effectiveness of any vote count process depends on the counting staff. Voter education is also important, as every individual should be aware of how the votes will be translated into seats, and how the count will proceed. And finally, the transmission of results should be structured and transparent in order to guarantee the acceptance of the general outcome of the election. Block Vote Case study: 1989 elections in Jordan The November 1989 general elections in Jordan were the first competitive ones for nearly thirty years. The country adopted the Block Vote electoral system, where voters had as many votes as there were seats to be filled within the district, but results turned out to be very controversial. Although it is difficult to make political analysis (political parties were banned), the University of Jordan has estimated that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Interlopers Short Story The Compare and Contrast of The Story of an Hour And The Interlopers In the two stories The Interlopers and The Story of an Hour, there are many similarities and many differences. With different authors, the plots hold very different themes, climax, and rising actions. Though the two stories are very different, there are some similarities when you look close enough. The Story of an Hour revolves around a woman named Louise Mallard who has heart trouble. When her sister Josephine breaks the news to her that her husband was a part of a lethal train accident, Louise does not take the news well and locks herself in her room. While in solitude, she looks out an open window. She sees trees, smells approaching rain, and hears a peddler yelling out what he s selling. She realizes with the death of her husband brought her a freedom. She could now live for herself. She opens the door and is met with her sister who helps her walk down the stairs. Once they almost make it down however, the door swings open and in walks her husband who was presumed to have died. Louise then has a fatal heart attack right then and there in surprise and joy at seeing her husband once again. In The Interlopers, its speaks of a generational loathing between two families. It began when Ulrich von Gradwitz, the local nobleman, was patrolling a narrow stretch of scrubby woodland that borders his much larger and more valuable holdings of forestland. The land that he patrols, however, acquires its value ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tom Cruise Pre Crime In the movie that stars Tom Cruise as the head detective for the pre crime unit there are several intriguing ideas going on. John Anderson who is played by Tome Cruise gets his information from what is known as the pre cogs who are a group of two males and one female. These pre cogs are able to see into the future when a murder is going to take place. These three people are floating in a liquid unable to move to leave. They stay lying there all day and night just to serve the purpose of warning the pre crime police of danger that is suppose to come. Which sets up our first dilemma that takes place during this movie. These three people or pre cogs because in the movie they are not really thought as being human beings are really imprisoned. They don t have the ability to leave or go home; instead they are forced into drugs that keep them somewhat conscious but not too much as to know of their surroundings. They were being used really for someone else s gain, which turned out in the end not to be the pre crime police. In the movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 138). In this movie however, the pre crime police task force violates that right. They instead choose to believe in the belief that we are predestined in the case of committing murder. They fail to believe that people can choose the path that they take in life and whether or not they want to commit a certain act whatever it shall be. A person has free will and with that power they have the ability to decide to murder someone or not. The movie shows that at the end we do in fact have a choice to whether or not we murder someone. Hence, the rationale behind arresting people who have yet to commit a crime should be illegal and unethical. • 7. The Camp Gyno Analysis For my second media blog post, I selected the Youtube video The Camp Gyno, which can be found here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XnzfRqkRxU). The storyline of the video revolves around a pre teen girl at summer camp who initially feels like an outcast until she gets her first period. As the first girl in the entire camp to get her period, she takes it upon herself to become the Camp Gyno and teach the other girl campers all about menstruation. Her self appointed responsibilities include demonstrating how menstruation works with a Dora the Explorer doll and a bottle of ketchup, handing out (and controlling the distribution of) tampons, coaching (more like yelling at) other girls through their cramps, and being an overall tyke sized tyrant of summer camp. Her days of period based tyranny come to an end when the girls stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I found most interesting was the topics of menarche and menstruation were framed in the video. There is a great deal of positivity about menstruation that I am unaccustomed to seeing here in the United States. In western culture, menarche is not treated as a time of celebration; instead, it is treated as a source of shame and embarrassment (Lorber, 2002). The video does the exact opposite. When the girl first gets her period, she refers to it as the red badge of courage . She views menarche as a time of celebration, seeing it as a marker of maturity as reflected by her appointing herself as the camp s gyno . The video does a very effective job in defying the cultural taboo of discussion menstruation, treating the topic with both equal amounts of humor and seriousness. Joseph Casale PPOL 501: Foundations of American Governance An Introduction to Public Policy February 11 2018 WHAT ROLE DOES RELIGION, MORALITY, AND WORLDVIEW PLAY IN THE CREATION OF PUBLIC POLICY? Public policy is a statement that defines the procedures of an institution for the achievement of consistency in decision making. It is the result of a political process, which involves enacting laws and regulations to enable the addressing of public concern in a constitutional manner. The efficiency of a government is founded on the presence of proper and reliable policy making procedures. Indeed, the conviction of religion gives humans the ability to stand against anyone and anything thus making religious groups a force to reckon. Religion is a symbol that acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long lasting moods and motivation in men formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that they seem uniquely realistic. Examples of this influence include the Islamic movement, the strong influence the Pope has on the Catholic movement, and the impact the Pentecostal movement had on the US government. The worldview contributes to the aspects of living, which include lifestyle, customs, thoughts, philosophies, beliefs, and culture. These aspects seem to change with different generations causing even greater conflict amongst interest groups in policymaking. Subtypes range from Paranoid to Disorganized schizophrenia. A wide variety of factors can provoke anyone of these variations of schizophrenia, such as genes, an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, the death of a loved one, or even stress. The prince also has symptoms that complement paranoid schizophrenia, such as disorganized speech, thinking and behavior. In Hamlet s case, grief caused by the death of his father provokes stress induced Type I Paranoid Schizophrenia. The grief Hamlet experiences leads to a buildup of stress, and eventually to a stress induced hallucination. Hamlet idealizes King Hamlet as a strong commanding leader and loving father. The very death of the King leaves Hamlet stricken with grief and without anyone to view idealistically. This grief results in Hamlet thinking nobody can understand what he is going through. This tendency to act at dusk further confirms the idea that this man represents the ego, which is the reconciliation of both id and superego. He too is nameless. When the witch who owns the garden discovers the trespass, she brings down a harsh verdict. If the woman must continue to have the rampion, then the witch will receive their child. The witch represents laws and social constraints, corresponding to the repressive superego. The husband must again play referee and weigh his wife s desires and the witch s rules. He is not strong enough to overpower the id element of his household. He hastily agrees to the deal, and the witch transforms the desirable root from her garden into a child. The 2013 Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act fails to protect the maternal health of woman and is failing due to the vagueness in language and inconsistency in implementation. That is quite a substantial claim, but it only shows the magnitude of faith that some Christians place in the Word. In 1999, an attempt to pass a law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools (not coincidentally attached to a gun control bill) failed for reasons stated by People for the American Way on their website: First, posting the Ten Commandments is a solution in search of a non existent problem. Religious Right rhetoric notwithstanding, religion and prayer have not been banned from public schools; in fact the First Amendment protects students rights to pray, discuss religious views and read religious texts in school. Second, posting the Ten Commandments would violate the First Amendment by requiring schools to favor one religion over another; the Supreme Court ruled so in 1980. What is at stake here is not a student s right to practice religion in school that right is already guaranteed; rather, the Christian Right wants to be seen as doing something about school violence. The Ten Commandments as touted by Tom DeLay become a symbol of spirituality, a means to gauge both the morality of a school population and the pro activeness of the Christian Right in combating school violence. In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct, unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). Toward the end of XX beginning of XXI century the emergence of new radical populist regimes occurred not only in Latin America but also in Eastern Europe. However, the researchers did not rush to analyze the Eastern European regimes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Research Paper On Marc Chagagall Fantasy, magic, movement and life. These words describe the work of an extraordinary Artist, Marc Chagall. At a young age, I came across one of his paintings, I and the Village, in a book I was reading. This one painting impacted me and changed the way I viewed not only art, but the world. In this work of art, Marc Chagall creates a world, a surface covered with representations of things... in which logic and illustration have no importance. (Chagall). A world in which I wanted to live in. There is a peasant and an animal, looking head to head, eye to eye with calm facial expressions. The animal, dreaming of a perfect day. A man and woman in the middle of them, one upside down. Above them houses are placed, upside down as well. At the very bottom is not just a plant, but a tree of life. This painting comes to life with some geometric shapes that give a feeling of time moving by in a circular motion. Chagall was ahead of his time. This masterpiece, created in 1911, expressed to me a wish, a theory, that Chagall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no violence, bloodshed or cruelty occurring in this space. The tree of life glowing brightly and growing instead. This idea of human beings and animals coming together, having the same amount of feelings and respect for one another, has been my lifetime wish. Growing up in a small town, in the middle of the woods, I was automatically connected to the nature and wildlife around me. We cared for the raccoons, deer, opossum, fox, chipmunks, squirrels, birds and many other creatures just the same as we did care for our household pets. This one point in Chagall s painting, animals and humans living on the same level, clicked with me at such a young age and it became on of my main themes throughout my work as a growing artist, in paintings, drawings and photography. Without me even realizing it till later. Not just the idea inspired me but the way he portrayed it as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factor V mutations include: Factor V Leiden, Factor V Cambridge and Factor V Hong Kong. Studies have been conducted to see the prevalence of these mutations in patients who have been diagnosed with venous thrombosis and its association with activated protein C resistance. COAGULATION Coagulation is a process where there is a blood clot formation at the site of an injured blood vessel. Once there has been an injury to the blood vessel wall, vasoconstriction immediately occurs, and then we get primary haemostasis. Platelet activation occurs in this process and they adhere to the subendothelial complex. There is a formation of fibrin in this process and this leads to a haemostatic plug being formed at the site of injury. Secondary haemostasis also occurs simultaneously with primary haemostasis. In this process, tissue factors are involved in the initiation of the coagulation cascade. The end result of the coagulation cascade is the activation of thrombin. Thrombin is an important enzyme in haemostasis as it is needed for the conversion of fibrinogen to an insoluble fibrin monomer to form the matrix of the clot and also it is important for further platelet activation. The Exxon scurrent and quick ratios (0.57 and 0.91 correspondingly) were higher than the Mobil s (0.48 and 0.67 correspondingly) and merged company had significantly improved these results. Ratio of net current assets as a % of total assets (i.e. working capital to total assets) was distorted after the merger (1.48) probably due to large divestitures that followed the deal.

Though Exxon again showed its financial supremacy with much higher interest coverage ratio (93.41 compared to Mobil s 7.78) Generally speaking the better interest coverage ratio means less risk but also might be bad for future performance because of the failure of the management to use additional funds for development. Debt to equity ratio was safe and stable in both companies. Combined company showed even superior results after the merger, which proved the correlation between positive market reaction on the announcement event and success of the merger. The Chorus In Medea In Euripides tragedy Medea, he displays the Chorus feelings towards children; the Chorus talks about how the people who never have children live life with less troubles before stating their opinion and questioning those who thank the gods for children. The Chorus believes that people [w]ho had never had children of their own can [e]njoy the advantage in good fortune, for children are a burden (990, 991, 994). • 36. Essay about Citizenship, a Right and a Responsibility . When I think of America I think of freedom and citizenship. The right to vote or the right of free speech are aspects that, as citizens, we posses. Being born in America automatically gives you these rights and many more, and most importantly, you become a citizen. Now, with citizenship comes responsibility such as obeying the law and paying taxes. So if you follow these simple rules does this make you an effective citizen? This question, in my opinion, is almost impossible to answer for a number of reasons, which will be addressed in the following paper. It was extremely hard to come up with a clear cut answer as to what an effective citizen entails. I grappled with this term through many drafts and in the end came up with many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The money also goes to pay for police and fire protection which we depend upon every day, these people are a necessity to our daily lives. Citizens must also abide by certain laws, which in the mind of some citizens, is a sacrifice. My answer to them is that we are not in a state of nature and this is a price you have to pay for living in a society. In their mind, if they were in a state of nature then they would not have to abide by such laws. As John Locke pointed out, we all are here for the preservation of mankind. We make these sacrifices for protection and, in the end, not only benefit the individual but also benefit the community, society, or nation. (Locke, pgs. 170 171, 180 186). So each citizen, in order to (in Abraham Lincoln s word s) form a more perfect union, must make certain sacrifices which in the end, not only helps you but helps others, this is one of our responsibilities as citizens. Finally, in regards to this paragraph, someone who DOES fulfill his or her responsibilities, are good citizens, but that is not the whole definition of a good citizen, it is simply one part of a bigger picture. The question can now be raised, if one follows and fulfills these responsibilities does that really make them a good citizen? If a person follows the laws and pays his or her taxes, does that make them a good or effective citizen? In my opinion, it all depends upon the person defining the term effective citizenship. Each person has different beliefs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Similarities Between Hamlet And August Wilson In both August Wilson s The Piano Lesson and William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the apparitions desperation for the vengeance of their death plays an extensive role in advancing the apex of the plays. Though William Shakespeare s Hamlet, was written in the 16th century and The Piano Lesson by August Wilson was written in the 20th century they both utilize the pivot idea of Supernaturality in literature. In the tragic play Hamlet, the ghost of King Hamlet advances the protagonist of the play, Hamlet, to explain the cause of his death; which made Hamlet feel obligated to avenge his father s death. The constant pressure the ghost has on Hamlet about getting his revenge leads to Hamlet s internal breakdown. Hamlet becomes indecisive of what decisions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having two separate motives for the piano; Berenice values the piano s history while her brother, Boy Willie, wants to sell the piano and use the money to buy the land his family was enslaved on. The Charles family is being haunted by the ghost of Sutter, whose family once owned theirs. Sutter s ghost appears after he falls down his well and the cause could be the Ghosts of the Yellow Dogs, the spirits of the Charles family s ancestors. The ghost s appearance causes conflict within brother and sister to rise. Sutter comes back after his death as a ghost to avenge his murder and reclaim his piano. In act 1 scene 1, Berniece states, Just go on and leave. Let Sutter go somewhere else looking for you . Berniece thinks that Sutter s ghost appeared because her brother, Boy Willie, killed him.
