Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince
Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology.
Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where
the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and
purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of
turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain
power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to
Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem
his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but
from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and
publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and
effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince
should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just
having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable
to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot
start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because
Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune.
However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy.
Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna.
Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected
figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased
remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Although
Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is a figure that is

Main Themes In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath is a writer renowned for her intense and personal poems. But she is also known for her
semi autobiographical novel, The Bell Jar, a work very lightly veiled as fiction. In the coming of age
book The Bell Jar , Plath takes us into the mind of the 19 year old narrator, Esther Greenwood, and her
descending into the grip of mental illness. Set in the 1950s, Esther is a bright and aspiring writer
working as an intern for a busy magazine in New York along with fellow college students. Her
promiscuous friend Doreen sets her up on an ill fated date: but things start to go downhill. On the date,
a violent man nearly rapes her. Not only that, but she also goes home to Boston to find out that her
application to a writing class she was keen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the novel opens with Esther reading a newspaper article of a morbid execution. The dreadfulness
of the execution and the grim thoughts of cadavers weigh on her. Additionally, she tells the reader how
she isn t feeling like she is having the time of her life, despite the envy that comes from the hustle and
bustle of living in New York City. I felt very still and very empty, the way the eye of a tornado must
feel, moving dully along the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo . Definitely, throughout the novel,
she is preoccupied with death and feels alienated: signs of her depression. Speaking of alienation,
Esther is indeed an unconventional woman for her time. It must be noted that The Bell Jar takes place
in the 1950s, a period where the feminine, domestic, dutiful, good wife is the archetype that women
are expected to follow. Needless to say, Esther is rather interested in pursuing her ambition as a writer.
However, we can see that she is still wavering should she follow the constrictive women s roles of the
50s, or pursue her literary passion? This brings us to the fig tree. The fig tree is a metaphor used in the
novel that represents all the things Esther could be a mother, a famous poet, a lover, and so forth.
However, she could not pick one fig because she is uncertain about her

Questions On Students With Students
4. Number rainbows
a. I will be working with student on their targeted number for this student. We made a number line
starting at zero and then counting up to their practice number. I then started by stating that we were
going to create a rainbow. I asked the student if they could find two number in the number line that
could equal their practice number. Usually, they states their practice number and zero and if you add
them together you get the practice number. Then I encouraged the student to look for another pair of
number that would equal the practice number. I will prompt thee student to keep looking for pair of
number until they have found all the pair then I ask them to draw a line connecting the two numbers in
the pair. After the student had created the rainbow I will have them color the rainbow. After they have
colored it I had the student write number sentences using the number pairs to equal the practice
number. After they have written the student has finished creating the number sentences I reviewed the
sentences with the student.
5. Snap it
a. In this lesson I work with the student on their practice number. The student started out with a stack
of unfix cubes that equals their practice number. I then prompted the student to place the unfix cubes
behind their back. I then modeled how they would snap the stack in half. Then I showed the student
then when I pulled out the stack in was broken in two. I had the student practiced just snapping the
stack a few times.

February 1917 Dbq Analysis
In the twentieth century many Europeans liked the idea of having a totalitarian government. The
people in Europe found this to be somewhat comforting. They knew that things would be okay if
everything was controlled. Part of this was the idea all for one and one for all . For this to work out,
there were things that had to be contributed to the governments. There were economic, social, and
political conditions that helped to transition from the current government that they were using to the
totalitarian government. In March 1917, there was a Revolution in Russia that started to change things
in Europe. Tsar Nicholas had left power at this time, and Prince Lvov took over. Kerensky was the one
who lead the revolutionary party. He was the person who was looking out for ... Show more content

Kerensky was fighting for the farmers and the people who lived in the country to have more rights
than they had. By Kerensky fighting for the working class people, it could be considered to go along
with the economic conditions. Document 26 talks about the economic conditions in Russia. On page
one of document 26 it states that in 1902, Lenin said that we said that there could not yet be social
democratic consciousness among the workers . By this thought, it might have started a fire in the
workers eyes. The workers were willing to fight back against the bosses in order to get what they
deserved. In this document, it says that Social Democracy has more political struggles that are
extremely intense than what the working class has to deal with. Social Democracy definitely had some
political struggles, but to say that they had more extreme struggles than the working class might be an
exaggeration. The working class had to deal with the bosses not caring about them, long hours and
getting paid little to nothing. It would be much easier for this class to have some kind of power if the
country they were in had a backwards economy. For example, in Paris the

to make calls or send messages, but we must remember that the phone has a price tag at 6000 euros
and isn t targeted old ladies that have a budget at 300 DKK.
The third reason is that the phone costs 6000 euros and has absolutely no features and is compared to a
luxuries watch as stated in the text at line 15. In my opinion a phone that cost 6000 euros should have
a lot of features, that it don t break is not enough.
The fourth reason is that electronic brands all over the world is making their devises break after a

manufacturing failure that makes the phones break down I think its intentional that it happens.
The fifth reason is that it s not a smartphone, maybe some of old fashion business men would like to

Reflective Essay About Reading
I love to read, but it didn t start out that way. When I was in first grade and we are just starting to learn
how to read books, I remember being mad because I wasn t in the advanced reading group. The
advanced reading group got a different book than everyone in the normal reading level and got to
work in a different section of the room. This made me so mad that I decided I didn t want to try which,
when I look back on it now was not the smartest thing I could ve done. I knew how to read but it never
really appealed to me, especially since I wasn t the most proficient reader. And why would I want to
read a book when I could play with a Bratz doll? My feelings on reading never really changed until I
got into the fourth grade. Of course I, a kid who despised reading, was placed in the one class that had
a teacher that expected fifteen minutes of sustained reading every class. During the time she allotted
for reading I would sit stubbornly and refuse. My teacher contacted my mother to let her know what
was going on in class. She also told my mother that she wouldn t give up on me and that she just had
to find something that I was interested in. When the teacher took my class in the library to get new
books, she followed me around offering suggestions of what to read. It wasn t until I tried a book from
the Lily Quench series that I actually found something that I enjoyed. The book is about a girl who is
orphaned and is the last person in her village with the power to slay

Absolutism In The 17th Century
Absolute monarchy is the notion that the monarch rules will unlimited power, only omitted by divine
law or natural law. During the seventeenth century, absolutism was ineffective in England, while it
flourished in France. Comparatively, causes of its decline in England were similar to those of its
former rise in France. These being; raging war(s), nobility power, religious tensions, and need for
money. Whereas, the two countries were also different in respect of how each country s monarch went
about their divine right. As the sources of absolutisms increase or decrease were analogous, how the
French and English monarchies controlled war, money, religion, and other political authority, caused

In both instances, war set up absolute monarchy for success, or failure. Since Henry IV promised to
feed everyone, I want there to be no peasant in my realm so poor that he will not have a chicken in his
pot every Sunday, many subjects were willing to let him have absolute rule in order to make their
society better. Also, as an absolute monarch he was capable of lowering peasant taxes, all while
increasing revenues. Whereas, the English absolute monarchy was greedy, Charles II wanted more
sufficient revenue to satisfy himself. This lead to a secret agreement converting Charles II to Roman
Catholic. When his people heard of this, anti Catholic fear spread across England. Reaching its
pinnacle point when James II succeeded his brother as a Roman Catholic. Unrelenting religious
turmoil, created by the financial greed of the English monarch, lead absolutism to fail in England.
However, by issuing the Edict of Nantes, Henry IV of France eased religious tension between
Catholics and Calvinists. Consequently, the French people saw the absolute monarch as an intelligent
king whom improved their society. Lastly, the power of the Parliament and nobility effected the rise of

We Must Start Up Your Computer
Personally I love waiting fifteen minutes while my computer starts up. It s an excellent opportunity for
bonding just you and the black screen. But if you prefer to actually start working before the thoughts
of violence creep in, cleaning up your computer s Startup is a sure fire way to shave off some of that
bonding time . Every time your computer starts, it loads a batch of programs. Some of these programs
are needed for the computer to run, but most have slipped themselves into your auto loading queue so
that they can accost you every time you start up your computer. Messenger programs are notorious for
this, but there are many other programs that will automatically invite themselves into your Startup.
And let s face it: nobody likes an uninvited guest. But before you start getting trigger happy and

Essay Causes Of The War Of 1812
Causes of the War of 1812 The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain
from June 1812 to the spring of 1815 (Findling, 15). When the war began, it was being fought by the
Americans to address their grievances toward the British, though toward the end, the issues eventually
were unjustified and reasons manipulated. There is no single cause for the War of 1812 but instead,
several related causes, such the influence of the War Hawks, the impressments as well as the Embargo
and Non Intercourse acts, and the British s possible interference with the Indian Nations, and land
ownership disputes between the Natives and Americans, ultimately leading to the Battle of
Tippecanoe. The War Hawks were a group of 20 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hawks were confident that Britain would yield to US demands if it saw America considering
military battle. Any way, Britain was already involved with the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, thus being
short on money and men. Ultimately, the War Hawks convinced majority of congress to vote in favor
of this Second Struggle for Liberty . Though a few rebellious congressmen fought over little details,
everyone agreed that it wasn t realistic to expect a peaceful and diplomatic conclusion to the constant
divergence with Britain. In the early 19th century, Britain and France were engaged in a life or death
struggle. After much war through the years, France dominated a lot of Europe, though Britain was the
ruler of the seas. When it became obvious that neither side was likely to win a decisive military
contest, the warring nations turned to commercial warfare: Britain tried to blockade all of Europe, and
France attempted to prevent the sale of British goods in their
possession(http://gatewayno.com/history/War1812.html, War of 1812). During the 1790s, French and
British maritime policies produced several crises with the United States, but after 1803 the difficulties
became much more serious. In November of 1807, Britain issued a trade regulation called an Order in
Council, which compelled all neutral ships to either call at British ports or be subject to a search by
British authorities. A month later, Napoleon decreed

Analysis Of Late Feudalism In Japan
Modern Japan with its bright lights, big cities, rich culture, and modern technology makes it one of the
most popular tourist destinations in the world. Despite being considered a modern, developed country,
one can argue that it is still dragging behind in terms of social equality. This is the result of grueling
efforts to depart from ancient traditional customs, most of which took place only a couple of centuries
ago. Even though there is still much to be done, relatively speaking, a thorough analysis of Japanese
historical literature illustrates that individualism in Japan has come a long way since the Tokugawa
period. Late Feudalism in Japan was characterized by its contradictory nature of being centralized
politically while maintaining feudal institutions, thus earning the title of a centralized feudalist state
(Reischauer, pg. 73 74). Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa bakufu, wanted to
encourage an era of peace after the constant bloodbath that occurred during the second phase of
feudalism in Japan, and this was the basis of most of the changes that distinguish Late Feudalism from
the other two phases. The most notable change he implemented was the revival of Confucianism; this
resulted in declining rates of crime and violence and a rise in literacy rates, a phenomenon that was
based on Confucius famous phrase, The gentleman is not a utensil (Confucian Analects, Handout #1).
In terms of individualism, Confucianism encouraged individuals to

Examples Of Loyalty In Hachiko
Friendship and Loyalty
People can t live alone. As social being, people always need someone to consider as their friend. Aside
from human, most people prefer dogs, cats, rabbits, or others as their bestfriend. These are social
creatures that accompany people to play, exercise, and perform any other activities together.
To pet owners, dogs provided physical health through exercise motivation; comfort and
companionship; an avenue for dog owners meet new friends, support and love as family members; a
listening ear as therapists, and a feeling of protection and safety when out walking (Knight Edwards

Usually, family members communicate with each other, and having similar communication with pets
is part of viewing them as family. Pets respond through vocalizations and gestures, which are
understood by their owners, sometimes in special ways. Some people prefer the intimate
communication they share with their pet over conversations with humans.
There are different levels of affection and respect that people have for their pets, but the term family
members is used quite often. Cohen (2002) explores this trend in three different ways: (a) Pets are like
human family; (b) pets are part of a broader social network system but not family; (c) pets are family
members only in a linguistically playful way. (621).
Whether people joke about their pets as children or not, the idea of companion animals as specific kin
or generic family members is becoming much more accepted in western cultural systems, and we have
to pay much more attention to it. If we do not recognize the intense emotional bonds people have with
animals, we risk damaging both the human and the pet s well being when they are forced to separate
for various reasons (housing, illness, family disputes). Beyond psychological issues, if we discount or
ignore the importance of pets in the kinship network in anthropological studies, we risk missing out on
a rich area of human relations, which will enrich the field of cultural

History Of Swimming During The Olympic Games
HISTORY OF SWIMMING IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES
According to the Oxford dictionary, the act of swimming is to propel one s body through water by
using the limbs or other bodily movement . Using this form to propel through water is now so
technical and refined that it is classed as an individual or team sport as well as a recreational activity.
One of the most popular sports of the Olympic Games today is swimming highlighting events in
different strokes like the butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. Competition is conducted
both in a purpose built swimming pool as well as the open water. Olympic swimming is one of the
most watched and oldest events, competitors from all over the world come together at a hosted city to

Not only paintings have been found but also written evidence referencing swimming. The first ever
book of swimming was written by a German professor of languages, Nikolaus Wynmann in 1538
called The Swimming or A Dialogue on the Act of Swimming .
The country that was first to take part in swimming both as a competitive sporting activity and as a
recreation was England in the early 18th century. The competitions with time gained popularity
leading to the first indoor swimming pool opening for the public in 1828, at the St George Baths,
London and operated by the National Swimming Society. Improvements made towards swimming as a
sport led to numerous swimming organizations such as Amateur Swimming Association of Great
Britain with as many as 300 regional clubs operating throughout England. By 1882 other European
countries had also established swimming federations with the first European amateur swimming
competitions in 1889.
The style of swimming or stroke that was majorly used was the breaststroke until1844 where two
Native American participants introduced the front crawl. Then in 1873 after winning a local
competition, Sir John Arthur Trudgen debuted a new hand over stroke freestyle, which is still
considered today as the most powerful strokes of all swimming styles.
The first women s swimming championship was held in Scotland in 1892 but wasn t introduced to the
Olympic Games until 1912. Men s

Soundtrack To Music Research Paper
Why music is the soundtrack to life
Music is interpreted differently from around the world but to me, music is motivational and inspiring.
It s a way to express emotions and a language that cannot be put into words. Music creates an avenue
for empathy and a new understanding and it is part of my lifestyle. Music always gives you company
when you are bored or in the shower. It gives a meaning and purpose to life. Music is important
because it is the key to creativity.
Many creative geniuses such as Mozart and Albert Einstein showed us that listening to and creating
music, exercises one s creativity and intellect because it requires maximum right brain usage. Music
also brings people together whether it is a celebration or a formal occasion. ... Show more content on

In recent tests scientists found that music could reduce the perceived intensity of pain. It can also ease
stress before and after a patient has surgery. This is why many hospitals use musical therapy. Music
can additionally have good effects on your mood such as relieving stress, reducing symptoms of
anxiety and depression, and elevating your mood. It can help in high stress situations such as exams
and give you a better cognitive performance. When you go to the gym you will find that there is music
playing and this is usually because it improves running and biking motivation and increases workout
endurance. Additionally it can help your body recover faster after exercising. This is because it
enhances your blood vessel function. Other positive outcomes of music can include better memory,
helping people eat less and improved sleep quality. As well as positive physical effects there are also
positive emotional and mental effects of music. One of the most famous ones is the Mozart effect. If
somebody listens to Mozart s music they may likely have a short improvement on spatial temporal
reasoning. Spatial temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize the instruments played in a song and
the musical notation.
In conclusion, music is an important motivation for creativity and inspiration. It is a way we can
express ourselves without having to say anything, it is a hobby or a pastime.

No Exit is that the Setting of Hell by Jean-Paul Sartre
Hell, although we will most likely never actually know anything about it for sure, has always seemed
to be brought up in the media, talked about on television, and depicted in different ways and through
all of the different types of media there are around the world. For example, one version of Hell as
described in Jean Paul Sartre s play No Exit is that the setting of Hell is a mostly empty room in which
three people are selected to stay for eternity (Sartre). Whether they were selected by chance or at
random, nobody can tell for sure (Northern). The characters, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle try to figure out
why they were all placed together, but will never know even though they have an eternity together to
figure it out (Sartre). The thought that this setting could be a Hell in it s own can be hard to
comprehend. The fact of the matter is that the three people have no looking glass in which to see
themselves, no way to know how the other people in the room feel about them, and no way to get
away from each other, for they are locked in this room for eternity (Sartre). The fact that one of the
women, Estelle, is a sort of conceited woman who wants to see how she looks all the time makes her
feel the need to ask the other woman, Inez, how she looks (Sartre). When she does this, it shows the
way that it is human nature that we are constantly worried and wondering how they look through
another person s eyes (Northern). The idea of the Northern Existential Group that Hell is other

Myasthenia Gravis Lab Report
Treatments of myasthenia gravis Introduction Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease
which is related to a progressive inability to exert maintained or repeated contraction of striated
muscles. B lymphocytes produce autoantibodies which act against the post synaptic nicotinic
acetylcholine receptors (AChR). The unusual activity of these B lymphocytes can be explained by the
fact that they are not properly controlled by T lymphocytes due to a disorder present in the thymus

Adderall Term Paper
While Adderall withdrawal is more likely when someone takes higher doses of the drug, it can happen
to anyone. This brand name drug is a blend of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. Medically, it is

The Problem Of The Low Utilization Ratio Of Seats
Introduction Libraries have been playing a very important role in information, knowledge finding and
providing people great places to study. McGill University, one of the biggest and highly ranked
universities in Canada, consists of 11 facilities and has 39,988 students [1]. McGill University library
system comprises 13 branch libraries, holding over 6 million items and providing great quiet study,
group study rooms and computer for students and staff. However, most students have experienced
difficulties in finding a seat for studying or group discussing in the library, especially during the exam
period. Besides, although the library has clearly defined that students cannot occupy seats. But
because of the lack of the alarm system, it is difficult to judge which one is free and which one is not,
the problem of the low utilization ratio of seats is very serious. This leads to a serious waste of
resource and so many students who loves to study cannot find seats in the library. In addition, students
can be distracted from studying, by people who are walking around for finding a seat in the library.
Besides, the ubiquity and popularity of smartphones among end users have increasingly drawn
software developers attention over the last few years. As a result, our group will create a library seat
availability app for students to check the occupancy and the vacancy of seats in the libraries by
installing sensors at each floor and the main entrances of libraries. By comparing the

The Benefits Of College Tuitions In America
College tuitions in American is too expansive for the young adult who has the potential to be
successful in our community. Many people were not able to attend college due to financial issues.
College tuitions can go over $100,000 for a four year college. In result, they find part time jobs to pay
their tuitions and spend extra time in college for total of six through seven years instead of four years
to achieve their bachelor degree. In addition, many college students take loans and had to pay over
$30,000 of debt after attending college (Lobosco). It s upsetting to see people especially young adults
to get accept to an excellent college but unable to afford it.
This has become a huge problem because we are speaking about the future of America. The people

How Do Special Interest Groups and Mass Media Influence...
The media, interest groups, and political standard is a fascinating marriage in our mechanically
exceptional social order. It is better comprehended when differentiated into their singular commitment
to our social order to positively feel their effect on our day by day lives. Broad communications is
characterized as a method for correspondence that achieves a huge volume of individuals in a short
measure of time (broad communications). Interest groups could be better seen as an aggregation that is
resolved to forestall or help change open arrangement without the need of being chosen (Twyman

convictions in a given populace. By understanding what these parts of the current political ideal model

I do not wish to address the pain of living with and among human beings. Instead, I d like to respond
to Nietzsche by posing a couple of questions that I find far more interesting: do we develop an
archival memory of theory and the arts because of the pain they inflict on us? What relation does this
have to the development of our being? In order to answer such a question, one would need to modify a
couple of understandings: curiosity is now the act of making oneself open to the possibility of pain;
fascination is a kind of pain tolerance, and the more sustained it is, the more one enjoys how much he
or she can bear it. Socrates block of wax will be the major organizing image of this piece: When we

he served his nation in the Army (Leslie). Sandburg knew how bad things already were for America
and then when The Great Depression came, the situation became worse. The Great Depression
affected him as well as millions of other Americans (Smith and Thomason 2). This is revealed in his
writing through his choice of diction and imagery. In his poem Hope is a Tattered Flag, Sandburg not

throughout the poem. When he says Hope is a tattered flag and a dream of time (1), he is referring to
the variety of life that he appreciates so much even after all that has happened (Knight). He is showing
the reader and all Americans that we should not lose faith or hope. America has suffered and endured a

The 1960 s was the period that saw the greatest revolution in popular music. It was due to many

Many of the artists, such as the Beatles and Bob Dylan, remain major influences to musicians to this

Cloning Horses
17 November 2017
Cloning Horses Cloning horses is like opening a pandora box, that s better left closed. In the years to
come cloning could become more common in the horse industry. As Ryan Bell states in the article The
Clone Age, When we clone we produce what we already have. (Bell Clone Age) Breeders must
remember; too much of a good thing is still a bad thing. So here s the question is cloning good or bad.
The first equine wasn t cloned until 2003. However, the first organism was cloned in 1928. Hans
Spemann was the first person to create a clone, he cloned a frog. The most well known clone may
have been Dolly the sheep. Dolly was born in 1996, that was the year cloning became more popular.
(Bell Clone Age)
Why clone? That s the question many breeders are asking. For breeding stock cloning could increase
amounts of offspring. A clone could manage a breeding career from a horse so it could continue to
show.Cloning could bring back beloved childhood horses or past champions. But is it worth the cost
of $160,000? (Bell Clone Age)
Many breeders are weary of cloning. Not only is cloning expensive but, according to the article Is
Cloning Horses Ethical by M. Campbell, a few breed associations (including the thoroughbred
association) don t even allow clones to be registered. These roadblocks may be the reason that
worldwide only 100 to 200 horses are cloned per year. (Campbell)
When cloning many people believe the product will be 100% the same as the original. Out of 20,000
genes only 13 are not the same as the original horse s genes. This is because the eggs needed to make
a clone are usually taken from slaughterhouse mares.(Bell Clone Age) In the article Equine Cloning
by Oliver Pynn the cloning process is explained. Mitochondrial DNA comes from the egg, and if the
egg doesn t come from the original horse the clone is only 99.99935% the same. (Pynn) In the United
States of America horse meat is not consumed. In some foreign countries horse meat is consumed. Is
cloned meat safe to eat? Many people worry about the potential health effects

Skyscrapers were indicative of a turning point in western civilisation, what was originally planned to

Introduction
Strategic management contains various subjects and topics, most of which do not have the consistent
identity (Ketchen, Boyd and Bergh, 2008). It is no doubt that there are still many debates towards
strategy concept. In this essay, the article crafting strategy will be reviewed. This is analysed by
putting the article in to a wider debate about strategy, then discussing its main strengths and
weaknesses.

This idea fully reflects the complexity for the business world, even though Mintzberg has an ardent
preference towards emergent strategy, there is no guaranty that this is the most suitable or perfect
method for all business. Besides, other analyses also illustrate the importance of strategy making
blends autonomy and planning in emergent strategy mode. To be more specific, by combining those
two modes, organisation is able to gain productive adaptive capability and optimal alignment in firm
through adapting to unpredictable environment in emergent strategy mode and coordinating business
activities to complete company s efficiency in strategy planning (Andersen and Nielsen. 2009).
Another strength of this article is the statement about strategic thinking. Fiona (2002) points out that
the central to sustain competitive advantage is to have a creative and divergent strategic thinking. This
fresh perspective represents a new way for managers to consider and evaluate the operation of
organisation. Just as Mintzberg mentions, strategic thinking is captured by informal learning from
diverse sources included experiences, leading to an integrated view towards the firm, and then
synthesizing the learning into an image of the business direction (1994). In contrast, many
administrators merely analyse the figures and graphs, but

to learn about his work in the civil rights movement and his I have a Dream speech as early as
elementary school. I d venture to say that a fewer amount of people know that this icon was
assassinated and James Earl Ray, a white man, was arrested as his killer. Unfortunately, an even
smaller number of people have heard of, or have read about a remarkable civil rights writer named
James Baldwin. Determining whom killed Martin Luther King seems to still be an issue because of the
guilt of the white man. If white men were properly educated, there ... Show more content on

Unfortunately soon after the march began rioting and fires were quick to follow. The police even
killed a seventeen year old boy a midst the chaos (Wexler 249). Determined to show this city that it
was possible to a have non violent march, King extends his stay (Wexler 249). King was originally
staying at a high class hotel called the Rivermont, but after some FBI agents allegedly discussed
leaking the news that King was staying in a white establishment, to embarrass him, King changed
where he was staying (McKinley 175). Some speculate that his new hotel was suggested so he could
reside in an area where he could be more easily killed. King decided to spend the duration of his stay
in a much less secure motel called the Lorraine. There are many conspiracy theories regarding King s
assassination. A source I have on King s assassination that was copyrighted in the 70s makes it seem
like after the failure of the march that King had gone back to Atlanta and the people requested King s
return and he agreed. The source I have that was published in the 90s made it seem more like King
was individually determined to show that he could successfully hold a non violent march in Memphis.
I don t know how terribly valuable this discrepancy is, but I think it s important to note that as time
passes King may at times be portrayed in an even more saintly light due to his being assassinated. In

The Qing Dynasty And Gupta Empire Women s Rights
Christopher Valdez
Period 2A
Qing Dynasty and Gupta Empire Women s Rights Women s rights were not the same in all countries
during the time of the Qing dynasty and Gupta Empire. How did women s rights in the Qing dynasty
compare to those in of India s Gupta Empire? Women all around the world were treated differently.
Some women were treated better than others but the main focus on this research paper is about the
Qing dynasty and Gupta Empire.
The Qing dynasty has historical background as like many other cultures. In 1644 Manchus, better
known as the Qing dynasty, conquered the Ming state and established their own Qing or Pure dynasty
among men lasting over three hundred years (Metmusem.org). The rise of the Qing dynasty is
provided by the story of a man named Li Zicheng. Li Zicheng was an ironworker who lost his job
along many other government paid employees. This occurred because the emperor needed money for
more troops in battle to defend Beijing against the attacks the powerful attacks of the Manchus, better
known as the Qing dynasty today. By the year of 1630 Li had found a job as a soldier; however, since
the government couldn t pay them and provided them what needed, Li decided to quit. After that Li
won the trust of several thousand Chinese revels and lead them into the towns capturing them and
added young men into their army. Li and his army won support of more people by making powerful
promises of ending imperial abuses. With more support in their side they

Bottom of Form
Correct :
To increase revenue, firms look to increase price or quantity, as price multiplied by quantity equals
total revenue. Purely competitive firms can sell as much as they want at the market price. Adding
additional units of the product does not result in a change in the market price. Therefore, since purely
competitive firms do not influence price, they increase total revenue by increasing quantity.

Stress Management Essay
Stress Management
Stress management is something we as people should take a lot more seriously than we really do.
Whenever I tell someone that they need to learn how to control their stress they always tell me they
need their stress. They are right, they do need their stress, we all need a certain amount of stress in our
lives. No stress is almost just as unhealthy as too much stress. Just the right amount of stress is called
Eustress. Eustress is a healthy stressor because it helps to keep us motivated. Unhealthy stress is called
Distress. Distress is unhealthy because it can cause all sorts of health problems such as anxiety attacks
or high blood pressure. There are two different kinds of stressors, an internal stressor and an ... Show

#61623; Exercise regularly
Nothing beats aerobic exercise for relieving stress. The stress reaction in the body consists of
tightened muscles, increased heart rate, Increased blood pressure, and heavier breathing . The result is
our bodies go into a state of high energy but there is usually no place for that energy to go. Exercise is
the most logical way to dissipate this excess energy. In turn relieving stress.
#61623; Humor
Humor is the best medicine. Laughter reduces the heart rate and arterial blood pressure to below their
original levels and causes the chest, abdomen, and shoulder muscles to contract, thus providing release
from stress. Do the quiz in one of my humor potential quiz books located in the back of this report to
test yourself and see if you should be laughing more than you do. #61623; Realistic Expectations
A common source of stress is unrealistic expectations. People often become upset about something not
because it is innately stressful but because it is not what they expected. For example, If you get caught
in slow moving traffic during rush hour you may not like it but it won t surprise you or necessarily
upset you. However if it occurs on a Sunday afternoon it is more than likely to stress you out
considerably. When expectations are realistic life seems more predictable and therefore more
manageable because you can plan ahead and prepare yourself. As for

Case Study Of Robert E. Lee s Fight At Gettysburg
Robert E. Lee lost in Antietam, which lowered chances of convincing Great Britain to develop the
diplomatic region. Lee then decided to devise a plan that would scare the north. Lee s campaign was
working well, until Hooker was duplicating his tactics.
Hooker had suggested that since Lee was moving up north, he could go to Richmond, Virginia and
take it over.
Lincoln denied the plan and told Hooker to follow Lee and his men and defeat them.
Lee lacked a common strategy; his go to man Stuart had decided to go around the Union army to
gather information. Lee was helpless and had made a risky choice. On June 28th, Lee had found out
that the Union was closer than predicted and the case was starting to get out of hand.

How Does Climate Change Affect A Fish
Climate Change Affects The Populations of the North American Fish
The global climate change is affecting the fish populations and communities and changing the
freshwater ecosystems in North America and Canada, according to four new studies.
The studies were printed in a special issue of Fisheries magazine this week, published by the
American Fisheries Society. The scientists observed different changes in how inland fish reproduce,
grow and where they can live.
Doug Austen, Executive Director of the American Fisheries Society and the publisher of Fisheries
magazine gave thanks to this synthesis. He further said that they can see the effects of climate change
on inland fish and they are no longer a speculation. He added that they can now begin

The American Dream In Jeannette Walls s The Glass Castle
Comedian George Carlin once stated, That s why they call it the American Dream, because you have
to be asleep to believe it. Financial security, freedom to live how one chooses, retiring at 65 and living
comfortably in old age, owning a home, knowing that working hard pays off: these are all
fundamental beliefs tied to the American Dream. As newer generations are increasingly finding the
dream to be unrealistic, people are beginning to abandon the concept; however it is still a very present
ideology. While many believe the American Dream is a lively goal that everyone strives to achieve, it
is actually a dying illusion that is unattainable for all but the wealthiest and used to propagate a
classist society, causing a cycle of ignorance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the American dream is not to promise success as a reward for hard work; conversely, it
is the idea that individuals should be able to achieve success despite their socioeconomic status. This
belief is intended to inspire and create equality. Although the American Dream sounds optimistic in
concept, it further propagates inequality in practice.
The American Dream is not a function of ability and achievement, but a dying illusion. America is not
truly the land of the free, but an ignorant classist society. Gregory Clark, an economics professor at the
University of California, Davis, stated that America has no higher rate of social mobility than
medieval England or pre industrial Sweden ... That s the most difficult part of talking about social
mobility it s shattering people s dreams (qtd. in Evans). The United States has an incredibly outdated
economic system that does not allow disadvantaged citizens opportunities regardless of how hard they
work. People get stuck in their social status and are not able to stray out of it, which affects their
further generations. Additionally, immigrants coming to America in hopes of prosperity are likely to
have even less luck than immigrants of the pass and widen the gap of social inequality. Clark
continues to state, The truth is that the American Dream was always an illusion. Blindly pursuing

Civic Virtue
Civic virtue is morality or a standard of righteous behavior in relationship to a citizen s involvement in
society. An individual may exhibit civic virtue by voting.
For people that have civic virtue they contribute and help out our country for the greater good. They
also have to be selfless and caring to the citizens of their country. It is for them to do something that
benefits the country from ending a war to helping out a good cause or organization.
This selfless organization shows its civic virtue by giving toys to little kids in need at the hospital.
These kids are in the hospital to have brain injuries from various accidents. Now since the kids are in
the hospital they can not celebrate Christmas normally. By donating toys we can

  • 2. Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology. Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune. However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy. Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Although Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is a figure that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Main Themes In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath is a writer renowned for her intense and personal poems. But she is also known for her semi autobiographical novel, The Bell Jar, a work very lightly veiled as fiction. In the coming of age book The Bell Jar , Plath takes us into the mind of the 19 year old narrator, Esther Greenwood, and her descending into the grip of mental illness. Set in the 1950s, Esther is a bright and aspiring writer working as an intern for a busy magazine in New York along with fellow college students. Her promiscuous friend Doreen sets her up on an ill fated date: but things start to go downhill. On the date, a violent man nearly rapes her. Not only that, but she also goes home to Boston to find out that her application to a writing class she was keen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the novel opens with Esther reading a newspaper article of a morbid execution. The dreadfulness of the execution and the grim thoughts of cadavers weigh on her. Additionally, she tells the reader how she isn t feeling like she is having the time of her life, despite the envy that comes from the hustle and bustle of living in New York City. I felt very still and very empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo . Definitely, throughout the novel, she is preoccupied with death and feels alienated: signs of her depression. Speaking of alienation, Esther is indeed an unconventional woman for her time. It must be noted that The Bell Jar takes place in the 1950s, a period where the feminine, domestic, dutiful, good wife is the archetype that women are expected to follow. Needless to say, Esther is rather interested in pursuing her ambition as a writer. However, we can see that she is still wavering should she follow the constrictive women s roles of the 50s, or pursue her literary passion? This brings us to the fig tree. The fig tree is a metaphor used in the novel that represents all the things Esther could be a mother, a famous poet, a lover, and so forth. However, she could not pick one fig because she is uncertain about her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We made a number line starting at zero and then counting up to their practice number. I then started by stating that we were going to create a rainbow. I asked the student if they could find two number in the number line that could equal their practice number. Then I encouraged the student to look for another pair of number that would equal the practice number. I will prompt thee student to keep looking for pair of number until they have found all the pair then I ask them to draw a line connecting the two numbers in the pair. After the student had created the rainbow I will have them color the rainbow. After they have colored it I had the student write number sentences using the number pairs to equal the practice number. After they have written the student has finished creating the number sentences I reviewed the sentences with the student. 5. Snap it a. • 5. February 1917 Dbq Analysis In the twentieth century many Europeans liked the idea of having a totalitarian government. The people in Europe found this to be somewhat comforting. They knew that things would be okay if everything was controlled. Part of this was the idea all for one and one for all . For this to work out, there were things that had to be contributed to the governments. There were economic, social, and political conditions that helped to transition from the current government that they were using to the totalitarian government. In March 1917, there was a Revolution in Russia that started to change things in Europe. Tsar Nicholas had left power at this time, and Prince Lvov took over. By this thought, it might have started a fire in the workers eyes. The workers were willing to fight back against the bosses in order to get what they deserved. In this document, it says that Social Democracy has more political struggles that are extremely intense than what the working class has to deal with. Social Democracy definitely had some political struggles, but to say that they had more extreme struggles than the working class might be an exaggeration. The working class had to deal with the bosses not caring about them, long hours and getting paid little to nothing. • 7. Reflective Essay About Reading I love to read, but it didn t start out that way. When I was in first grade and we are just starting to learn how to read books, I remember being mad because I wasn t in the advanced reading group. The advanced reading group got a different book than everyone in the normal reading level and got to work in a different section of the room. This made me so mad that I decided I didn t want to try which, when I look back on it now was not the smartest thing I could ve done. I knew how to read but it never really appealed to me, especially since I wasn t the most proficient reader. And why would I want to read a book when I could play with a Bratz doll? My feelings on reading never really changed until I got into the fourth grade. Of course I, a kid who despised reading, was placed in the one class that had a teacher that expected fifteen minutes of sustained reading every class. During the time she allotted for reading I would sit stubbornly and refuse. My teacher contacted my mother to let her know what was going on in class. She also told my mother that she wouldn t give up on me and that she just had to find something that I was interested in. When the teacher took my class in the library to get new books, she followed me around offering suggestions of what to read. When the war began, it was being fought by the Americans to address their grievances toward the British, though toward the end, the issues eventually were unjustified and reasons manipulated. There is no single cause for the War of 1812 but instead, several related causes, such the influence of the War Hawks, the impressments as well as the Embargo and Non Intercourse acts, and the British s possible interference with the Indian Nations, and land ownership disputes between the Natives and Americans, ultimately leading to the Battle of Tippecanoe. Though a few rebellious congressmen fought over little details, everyone agreed that it wasn t realistic to expect a peaceful and diplomatic conclusion to the constant divergence with Britain. In the early 19th century, Britain and France were engaged in a life or death struggle. After much war through the years, France dominated a lot of Europe, though Britain was the ruler of the seas. When it became obvious that neither side was likely to win a decisive military contest, the warring nations turned to commercial warfare: Britain tried to blockade all of Europe, and France attempted to prevent the sale of British goods in their possession(http://gatewayno.com/history/War1812.html, War of 1812). During the 1790s, French and British maritime policies produced several crises with the United States, but after 1803 the difficulties became much more serious. • 12. Analysis Of Late Feudalism In Japan Modern Japan with its bright lights, big cities, rich culture, and modern technology makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Despite being considered a modern, developed country, one can argue that it is still dragging behind in terms of social equality. This is the result of grueling efforts to depart from ancient traditional customs, most of which took place only a couple of centuries ago. Even though there is still much to be done, relatively speaking, a thorough analysis of Japanese historical literature illustrates that individualism in Japan has come a long way since the Tokugawa period. Late Feudalism in Japan was characterized by its contradictory nature of being centralized politically while maintaining feudal institutions, thus earning the title of a centralized feudalist state (Reischauer, pg. 73 74). Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa bakufu, wanted to encourage an era of peace after the constant bloodbath that occurred during the second phase of feudalism in Japan, and this was the basis of most of the changes that distinguish Late Feudalism from the other two phases. The most notable change he implemented was the revival of Confucianism; this resulted in declining rates of crime and violence and a rise in literacy rates, a phenomenon that was based on Confucius famous phrase, The gentleman is not a utensil (Confucian Analects, Handout #1). In terms of individualism, Confucianism encouraged individuals to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Usually, family members communicate with each other, and having similar communication with pets is part of viewing them as family. Pets respond through vocalizations and gestures, which are understood by their owners, sometimes in special ways. Some people prefer the intimate communication they share with their pet over conversations with humans. There are different levels of affection and respect that people have for their pets, but the term family members is used quite often. Cohen (2002) explores this trend in three different ways: (a) Pets are like human family; (b) pets are part of a broader social network system but not family; (c) pets are family members only in a linguistically playful way. (621). Whether people joke about their pets as children or not, the idea of companion animals as specific kin or generic family members is becoming much more accepted in western cultural systems, and we have to pay much more attention to it. If we do not recognize the intense emotional bonds people have with animals, we risk damaging both the human and the pet s well being when they are forced to separate for various reasons (housing, illness, family disputes). Beyond psychological issues, if we discount or ignore the importance of pets in the kinship network in anthropological studies, we risk missing out on a rich area of human relations, which will enrich the field of cultural ... For example, one version of Hell as described in Jean Paul Sartre s play No Exit is that the setting of Hell is a mostly empty room in which three people are selected to stay for eternity (Sartre). Whether they were selected by chance or at random, nobody can tell for sure (Northern). The characters, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle try to figure out why they were all placed together, but will never know even though they have an eternity together to figure it out (Sartre). The thought that this setting could be a Hell in it s own can be hard to comprehend. The fact of the matter is that the three people have no looking glass in which to see themselves, no way to know how the other people in the room feel about them, and no way to get away from each other, for they are locked in this room for eternity (Sartre). The fact that one of the women, Estelle, is a sort of conceited woman who wants to see how she looks all the time makes her feel the need to ask the other woman, Inez, how she looks (Sartre). Myasthenia Gravis Lab Report Treatments of myasthenia gravis Introduction Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease which is related to a progressive inability to exert maintained or repeated contraction of striated muscles. B lymphocytes produce autoantibodies which act against the post synaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChR). The unusual activity of these B lymphocytes can be explained by the fact that they are not properly controlled by T lymphocytes due to a disorder present in the thymus gland (Xiu, Horton Szar and Lucas, 2012). The T lymphocytes involved in damaging the acetylcholine receptors are the main cause of the pathogenis present with MG because they modify the synthesis of the high affinity antibodies. Besides, although the library has clearly defined that students cannot occupy seats. But because of the lack of the alarm system, it is difficult to judge which one is free and which one is not, the problem of the low utilization ratio of seats is very serious. This leads to a serious waste of resource and so many students who loves to study cannot find seats in the library. In addition, students can be distracted from studying, by people who are walking around for finding a seat in the library. Besides, the ubiquity and popularity of smartphones among end users have increasingly drawn software developers attention over the last few years. In the years to come cloning could become more common in the horse industry. As Ryan Bell states in the article The Clone Age, When we clone we produce what we already have. (Bell Clone Age) Breeders must remember; too much of a good thing is still a bad thing. So here s the question is cloning good or bad. The first equine wasn t cloned until 2003. However, the first organism was cloned in 1928. Hans Spemann was the first person to create a clone, he cloned a frog. The most well known clone may have been Dolly the sheep. Dolly was born in 1996, that was the year cloning became more popular. (Bell Clone Age) Why clone? That s the question many breeders are asking. For breeding stock cloning could increase amounts of offspring. A clone could manage a breeding career from a horse so it could continue to show.Cloning could bring back beloved childhood horses or past champions. But is it worth the cost of $160,000? (Bell Clone Age) Many breeders are weary of cloning. Not only is cloning expensive but, according to the article Is Cloning Horses Ethical by M. Campbell, a few breed associations (including the thoroughbred association) don t even allow clones to be registered. These roadblocks may be the reason that worldwide only 100 to 200 horses are cloned per year. (Campbell) When cloning many people believe the product will be 100% the same as the original. Out of 20,000 genes only 13 are not the same as the original horse s genes. This is because the eggs needed to make a clone are usually taken from slaughterhouse mares.(Bell Clone Age) In the article Equine Cloning by Oliver Pynn the cloning process is explained. Mitochondrial DNA comes from the egg, and if the egg doesn t come from the original horse the clone is only 99.99935% the same. (Pynn) In the United States of America horse meat is not consumed. To be more specific, by combining those two modes, organisation is able to gain productive adaptive capability and optimal alignment in firm through adapting to unpredictable environment in emergent strategy mode and coordinating business activities to complete company s efficiency in strategy planning (Andersen and Nielsen. 2009). The United States has an incredibly outdated economic system that does not allow disadvantaged citizens opportunities regardless of how hard they work. Additionally, immigrants coming to America in hopes of prosperity are likely to have even less luck than immigrants of the pass and widen the gap of social inequality.
