Canadian Tire Case Study
Canadian Tire Corporation has a supply chain that is unique to their business. With suppliers from all
around the world, it is important for Canadian Tire to have a supply chain management system that
allows inventory information to be accessed easily and fast. Two information systems are currently
being used by CTC are Manugistics system (a supply chain management system) and, AS/400 which
is used to track all inventory within the retail store. Many well known companies continue to use
AS/400, for example HSBC and Office Depot. CTC has international offices and partnerships with
third party logistic companies which adds value to the company because it reduces cost, time and the
amount of work needed for planning.
The supply chain network for Canadian Tire extends internationally to China, Hong
Kong, India and Mexico. Approximately 43 percent of CTC s inventory is purchased primarily from
Asia. The information system process uses help reduces the amount of work and planning that goes
into collecting the information and data from these countries. International offices create value for the
company overall by slim lining the communication channel to information that is required by head
office, which increases productivity and reduces costs.
Secondly, CTC also engages some third party logistic companies to provide distribution ... Show more

The old system was outdated, which caused some of their suppliers to use their own production
planning systems to forecast and meet anticipated demand. This is because CTC could only commit to
firm orders for the first two weeks of an inventory forecast. Additional orders would be communicated
to suppliers later electronically. This information might not have been acted on right away, and there
was a possibility that the order may not be fulfilled due to shortage of resources along the supply

An Analysis on the Effectiveness of Malaysia Current...
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
Macmillan English Dictionary defines recycling as the process of treating waste materials such as
newspaper and bottles so that they can be used again . Beside paper and bottles there have lots of
recyclable items such as aluminum cans, scrap metals, plastic and printer cartridges. Recycling saves
energy and reduces pollution and would help slow down global climate change.
The history of recycling is started nearly 4000 years ago, there was a recovery and reuse system of
bronze scrap in operation in Europe and there is evidence that composting was carried out in China. In
1898, The Association of Cleansing Superintendents is established, which today has evolved into the

2003, p.306). Solid domestic waste is one of the major environmental problems faced by most
municipalities in the country particularly in urban areas. The generation rate of waste is 1.0kg/day per
person and 80 percent of the 230 landfills in the country have only two years of lifespan left. Despite
rigorous campaigns of recycling, the attainment of recycling rate has increased from 1 2 percent in
1997 to merely 5 percent in 2001 (Aini et al. 2002, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306).
Studies have shown that the most significant factor affecting nature is not the official government
policy but public awareness (Chukwuma 1998, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306) or public concern for
environment and the readiness to bear the cost of minimizing the adverse impacts of their activities
(Ramsey and Rickson 1976, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306).
2.2 Malaysia Current Recycling Campaign
Accordingly, various policies and strategies are currently developed and implemented by the
government in order to ensure sustainable development of the nation. The root causes of
environmental problems are related to human activities, consumption and production patterns, many
of which are unaffected by environmental policies. Studies by various scholars have demonstrated that
the quality of the environment depends

attempts. The efficiency of the scanner is in the 60% 70% range. But, the scanner behaved accurately
as long as the fingerprint occupied almost 100% the scanner area and it was pressed hard enough. The
results reached the same conclusion after repeating 10 Identifications and 10 Enrolls. Tab1.2 Identify

identify the finger occupying less than 50% of the scanner area 10 times. The fingerprint scanner
could not pass the test, it kept failing to identify on any of the 10 tries. When there was a failure, the
scanner always sent back an error packet message. 1.3 Prints Running in the Raspberry The default

Dependence Of Women On Men
INTRODUCTION: Dependence of women on men has been a main feature of Indian society since
time immemorial. Women have always been considered inferior to men. The social notion has been
that women should always be subordinate to men and therefore this inferior sex has always been
subjected to oppression and suppression by men. Subordination of women has been caused by
physical, economic, psychological and internal pressure reasons. The situation becomes much more
miserable when taking into consideration the plight of widows . OBJECTIVES: In this paper, the
socio legal aspect of widowhood in India has been discussed with main focus on Hindu widows. The
condition of widows in traditional as well as modern India has been discussed ... Show more content

The above comment made by Saroj clearly gives an idea of the mindset regarding widowhood
prevalent in our society. It shows how much a woman is dependent on her husband. It is believed that
life of a married woman revolves around her husband and he is the master of her life and if he is not
there the life of the wife is meaningless. As soon as her husband dies , the women loses her identity.
Such thinking is the main cause of the plight suffered by the widows in the name of traditions and
rituals. Even the women follow such traditions and ideas because these have internalized them. The
status of Hindu widows in traditional and modern days has been described below. Traditional In
societies such as in India, widows are treated inferior to married women and have a harder time than
the widows in the west. Earlier, in many parts of India widows were not allowed to wear coloured
saris and ornaments and their heads were shaved and in south they were not even permitted to wear
blouse under their saris . This was done to avoid any male sexual attraction and protect their chastity.

Teaching ESL Writing (Final Paper)
Teaching ESL Writing
At times the plethora of professional journals and the myriad subjects treated therein seems like little
more than a dizzying exercise in redundancy and a forum for education professionals to justify their
worth in a competitive job market; however, I would like to think that there is a hidden value for those
of us whose brains seem to operate in what some might call a spiral rhetorical pattern, that as we work
our way around and around certain issues related to composition instruction, we are moving gradually
upward toward broader understanding and better practice. Some studies seem to do little more than
show the need for more studies, their authors falling back on such standard phrases as, ... Show more

Having lately read a great deal of professional literature regarding the ups and downs of teaching
college composition to ESL students, I ve noticed that students with LDs are conspicuously absent a
fact that suggests one or more possible conclusions: Students with LDs just aren t represented in
college level ESL courses; Students with LDs are there but they don t have needs separate from those
of non LD students that would require special consideration by college teachers; These students are
there and have needs requiring special attention by their teachers, but the teachers themselves lack
understanding of what those needs are and how to accommodate them.
Which of these holds most true, in general, is what I ve set out to discover, in hopes that I will find a
hidden font of knowledge addressing the singular needs of ESL students with LDs and how teachers
do, or can, meet those needs. The possibility that my first reason mentioned above might be true leads
to a political can of worms I d prefer to leave unopened; therefore, I ll concentrate on the third choice
that LD students who are also learning English as a second or other language are merely going
unrecognized due to the masking of LD symptoms behind communicative difficulties resulting from
the hardships inherent in non native language learning.

The Danger Of Cyber Attacks On Power Plants
The danger of cyber attacks on power plants are something that needs to be looked at closely to avoid
costly deadly incidents. Cybersecurity has become a vital component of our world today and it needs
to evolve fast to keep up in its protection from the outside. Cybersecurity protects us from
unauthorized shutdowns, break ins, financial and social ruin. We live in a world that has become
completely reliant on computers for everything. They are able to cause chaos and even shutdown
nuclear centrifuges, air defense systems, and electrical grids. (Hathaway, Crootof, Levitiz, Nix,
Nowlan, Perdue Spiegel, 2012) Cyber attacks are more common today due to the increase capability
of technology. Important information along with every aspect of people s lives are kept on computers
or cell phones which are vulnerable at all times. An example of this would be the leaked snapchat
photos of celebrities, stolen identities and unauthorized access from an outside computer into a power
plant. In New York State we have four nuclear power plants. These nuclear power plants contribute to
the economy, society and the environment. The Nuclear power plants are Entergy s Fitzpatrick in
Scriba and Indian Point in Buchanan, and Exelon s Ginna in Ontario and Nine mile point in Scriba
provide New York households and employers with over 5,000 megawatts (MW)of emissions free
electricity and nearly 42 million megawatt hours (MWh) of annual electricity generation. (Investment

Amel Saleh Rhetorical Analysis
Amel Saleh s argument that the holiday season is too materialistic, is a well defended statement
because she appeals to all three rhetoric appeals, and uses solid evidence to defend her position. Her
essay gives insight to how gifting giving has lost its true value, . In Amel Saleh s essay, it states,
Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world s population, we consume 40
percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands and
obtains 70 new toys a year. This is an example of the author using logos, since America consumes 40

This shows who the audience is, the author says, Are we raising our kids... , which shows that she s
talking directly to parents. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they will expect
to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like narcissism,
separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because
parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s
problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of
the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on
individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The
author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved
ones... Just don t overindulge and do try to make them meaningful. . This shows how the author
understands that gift giving isn t a bad thing, but individuals should do it in moderation, and not forget

Signs Of Autism Essay
Autism affects many different individuals in today s society. In fact, 1 in 68 people have some form of
Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Autism Fact Sheet ). It affects every race and ethnic group but studies
have shown it is typically shown more in males. Autism indicates a group of complicated
neurodevelopment disorders depicted by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior and
struggles with social communication and interaction. There is no exact cause of autism but it is
believed that certain genes are associated with the disorder. Researchers have noticed some differences
in some regions of the brain. It is also believed that genetics and environment may play a role.
Typically the signs and symptoms of autism are noticed during the first three years of a child s life (
Autism Symptoms ). The signs of autism vary from case to case but there are some present in most.
These are how an individual acts regarding social interactions, verbal or nonverbal communication,
and a limited interest in activities or play. Laura Hensley noticed the signs and symptoms when her
son Clancy was eighteen months old. When we moved to Iowa, Clancy stopped talking. Another sign
was that he got into Thomas the Train and he would line them all up by color and size, describes
Hensley. Other signs included his speech, eye contact, and how he reacts ... Show more content on

Essay on Investigative Reporting is the Driving Force in...
Investigative reporting has been a driving force in journalism for centuries. The reporting tradition of
revealing misconduct was already well established much before the 20th Century. Its practise even
predates the publication of the first successful colonial newspaper in 1704, demonstrating the press
watchdog role has had deep historical roots in democracy much prior to the 1960s. Over the past three
centuries, investigative reporters have tried to make a difference by raising public consciousness about
perceived wrongdoings. Prior to the early 1960s, investigative reporting was highly localised and
sporadic. This was a reflection of the character of early journalism and the technological limits of

One of the most notable reporters of the time was Ron Hall, who has been considered to have virtually
invented the art of investigative journalism in Britain, as one of a trio of young reporters in the 1960s,
he created the insight team of the Sunday Times. Shortly after he joined the paper, the scandal of the
Profumo affair broke so he began to produce a weekly detailed account of what had happened, digging
deeper into the background story. Shortly after that, the first truly investigative article written by Hall

years on the paper, he was associated with some of its most important investigative stories, including
the Philby spy scandal, thalidomide, and the remarkable disclosure that the yachtsman Donald

Running Head: The Increasing Costs of Olympics and The primary driving force for hosting the

that the running process determines the beneficial outcome in play. According to Baade and Matheson
(n.d), the prevailing perception is that a well organized and properly run Olympics is expected to
generate billions of dollars in profit. The economic incentives and other motivations such as political
prestige have seen nations compete intensively for the hosting chance. The misconceptions from the

In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4] until its receiver
becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay and energy consumption) of
various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty cycle networks. There are two features that make
flooding in low duty cycle networks challenging. First, a packet is unlikely to be received by multiple
nodes simultaneously as in always awake networks. To broadcast a packet, a sender has to transmit the
same packet multiple times if its receivers do not wake up at the same time. Thus flooding in such
networks is realized essentially by multiple unicasts. Second, unlike wired networks, wireless
communication is notoriously unreliable [4]. A transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions
are not successful due to wireless loss. The combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable
links necessitates the design of a different flooding mechanism than those found in wired networks
and always awake wireless networks. These combined have a knock on effects on reliability and cost
[4]. One straightforward solution could be building a routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of
solutions have been shown [7] to be fragile, because the failure of a parent node prevents

Pluralism As An Ethical Theory
An evaluation of the moral pluralism is a theory to find out how effective it is as an ethical theory is
what inspired this article. An understanding of the theory is very necessary to be able to give a clear
picture of it. The article looks at it in the form of the theory of value and the theory of right conduct
and how effect it is as an ethical theory. Considering its shortcomings and the objections it has faced is
a necessary step. With all that into consideration, I will support the argument that moral pluralism is
incorrect due to the objection that it has not been able to provide verdicts for a varied range of cases.
Moral pluralism is an idea which encompasses several theories that have been formulated in relation
to things that are morally right and those that are wrong, with incompatibility to an individual s
personal moral beliefs. As an acknowledgement of plurality of main moral laws, pluralism must brace
the contention of duty situations (Timmons, 2002). One is always faced with a dilemma on the action

From this, it is clear that they lack the type of solid support a rule or principle earns when it

ABSTRACT
New materials with distinctive properties are arising and attracting the scientific community at regular
intervals. Stiffness and strength are the important factors in determining stability and lifetime of any
technological devices, but defects which are inevitable at the time of production can alter the
structural properties of any engineering materials. Developing graphene with specific structural
properties depends upon controlling these defects, either by removing or deliberately engineering
atomic structure to gain or tailoring specific properties. In the present article, a comprehensive review
of defective graphene sheets with respect to its mechanical and thermal properties are presented and
examined.
Key Words: Graphene; point defects; line defects; molecular dynamics; atomistic modeling; fracture
toughness. Introduction
Graphene is emerging as a potential candidate for developing nanocomposites with desired
mechanical properties, thermal and electrical conductivities. Due to its exceptional mechanical
properties, thermal and electrical conductivities graphene can also be used for more conventional
purposes as compared to carbon nano tubes, which is

Human Rights And Natural Rights
Human rights are basically rights that individuals theoretically have within natural law. The quest for
happiness, life as well as liberty are for instances cited as natural rights by the Declaration of
Independence of the USA. As a matter of fact, human rights are deduced from natural law and occur
with or without the authority of any government. Human rights can be interpreted as incessant with
what were formerly identified as natural rights. This steadiness is not only historical, but theoretical.
This means that it is not merely that the convention of natural rights supposed is part of the old lead up
to modern human rights dissertation, but that the moral notion at the center of the latter is basically
that of a natural right.
On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also important to note that while the language used in the Universal Declaration might reflect
former articulations of Human Rights, it may not specifically invoke human nature, a Divine Being,
natural rights, or any other theoretical root for human rights. Since legal rights have law as their
foundation, it is correct to state that human rights have humankind as their basis. Many theorists have
proposed that the most relevant theories to the development of the human rights notion are natural
rights, religion, natural law, legal positivism, in addition to Marxism. The idea of individual rights rose
from the understanding that because reason is the key characteristic human beings possess, every
individual has the right to choose their specific authorities as well as to formulate their own laws. A
simple question, thus, is the valid authority and duty of government in the framework of human rights.
Natural law has unbiased, exterior existence. According to the supposition deduced from the ESS
(evolutionary stable strategy), it is human nature to use force. Moreover, the capacity to make ethical
judgments, the ability to differentiate good from evil , has instant evolutionary benefits. The advent of
rights within a political point of view is generally considered as rather recent, although any historic

Bullying is a common problem faced by millions (Do Something, 2014) of students throughout the
world every year. It refers to the repetitive abuse to a certain being, through physical, verbal and/or
social behaviour. These tormenting methods are prominent worldwide and up to 71% (Do Something,
2014) of high school children report incidents of bullying each year. This can can lead to severe
symptoms, such as anxiety and depression (National Institute of Child Health, 2014) Consequences
including and similar to those listed above are major reasons why bullying is viewed as an important
global issue relating to teenagers.
Caught in the Crowd by Kate Miller Heidke is an effective example of a narrative poem related to
teenage bullying. This engaging poem casts viewers into the story of a young girl who travels through
high school and witnesses bullying. Certain circumstances lead to broken friendships, due to the
female s personal inability to stand up for someone in need. The message being ... Show more content

Unaware of how judgemental most high school students are, the child goes to school hoping to make
friends and enjoy her experience. As the poem progresses the girl begins to understand that she is
getting bullied and this leads a drastic effect being left on her confidence. Thus, this poem was written
to inspire teenagers not to give up in times of doubt. An effective example of a poetic device used only
once towards the end of Dix s poem is personification. In this example the author utilises a poetic
device to express how her eyes [are] drowning in a sea of emotions . By specifying that her eyes are
about to die the writer conveys how the characters emotional status is declining, and overtaking her
other general personality because of bullying. This elicits an empathetic response from teenage readers
and alerts them of the struggles of getting

Aztec Civilization
Aztecs, also called Mexica, is a Mesoamerican civilization that flourished around 1350. Tenochtitlan
is the capital of the Aztec empire built on the shores of Lake Texcoco. Aztecs were believed to be
nomads who came from the Toltec tribe. They wandered into the valley of Mexico around 1325 and
started to form villages. They dug canals, drained lakes and converted them into fertile fields. They
also built the beautiful city of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs were known for human sacrifice, which was
associated to religious rituals. They believed that their gods sacrificed their own lives to sustain the
earth. In return, human blood must be sacrificed to the sun, moon, earth, and vegetation gods to
provide them nourishment to keep the nature and cosmos in balance (Benton DiYanni, pg. 325 326).
The Aztecs arose as the leading force in central Mexico taking the region s city states under their
power by the 15th century. They developed a sophisticated political, social, commercial and religious
organization. However, the Spaniards, led by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes defeated and
conquered the Aztecs in 1521.
The Aztecs highly regarded songs and poetry. During their festivals, they held poetry contests and
presentations that included musicians, acrobats, and players. Music and dance were also important
parts of their rituals and ceremonies. Nezahualcoyotl was one of their famous poets. His poetry
depicted the culture and values of the Aztecs. One example was his poem called

Ku Klux Klan, Arkansas
Ku Klux Klan Harrison, Arkansas
Over the years racism has been a problem with the United States, but more specifically, a group,
referred to as the Ku Klux Klan. This group was formed by people across the United States, whom
viewed themselves as the superior class of citizens. I am researching the Ku Klux Klan in Harrison,
Aransas . I will discuss what the group is, how they made their second phase in Harrison, Arkansas,
the Reconstruction, and their involvement in Harrison, Arkansas today. I hope the audience can better
grasp the history of Arkansas and the racism that took place, using groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan.
The group known as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was first founded in 1866. The KKK was organized by
white supremacist to go against the Republicans Reconstruction era policies. The members of the
group formed in the southern states. They met secretly and formed a campaign to intimidate and use
violent acts of discrimination towards both white and black Republican leaders. The Ku Klux Klan
had laws passed against them, to stop there acts of injustice, which was considered terrorism. The Ku
Klux Klan was a group that formed three times, and had different phases. The reformatted in the early
20th century, and came back stronger than the were before. They held rallies, burned homes and
people, burnt crosses, and held marches against immigrants and other religions. Another phase was
after the Civil Rights movement in the 1960 s the activity was very violent

Change In Fahrenheit 451
Can it be possible for people to change how they see and interpret the world? In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, Montag leaves his past, ultimately changing the way he thinks. In the passage Montag
has just escaped the Hound as well as his previous life, and is being carried away by the river into the
forest while thinking about his future. The revelation in this passage is a culmination of all the
knowledge that Montag acquires throughout the book. Ray Bradbury conveys to the reader how
finally leaving his old world has completed the change inside of Montag through the use of metaphors
and repetition.
The first way the author describes how Montag feels about the fakeness present in the world of his
past is through the use of metaphors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this passage, the word burn progresses over time from burning, to burned, to burnt. This
relates to what Montag is thinking, and brings him to his realization that the firemen need to stop
burning books. This is reinforced by the metaphor of The sun burning every day. It burned time.... So
if he burnt things with the firemen, and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt!
(Bradbury 140 141). The burning of the sun and it s likening to time and how the firemen and Montag
burn tells that too much is being burned as well as destroyed. At this point the change within Montag
is completed, and is shown by the metaphor of Now the guild of the asbestos weaver must open shop
very soon (Bradbury 141). The guild of asbestos weavers refers to the intellectuals in his past
community, who need to come forth and share the good that comes from having individual
knowledge. Bradbury ends the metaphor with telling the reader that the weavers must open shop very
soon, making the reader aware that change needs to happen. And this begins by coming forth with
knowledge and stopping the firemen. Somewhere the saving and putting away had to begin again and
someone had to do the saving and keeping (Bradbury 141), as he realizes the importance of preserving
books and gleaning important information and knowledge from them. Bradbury s use of the saving
and keeping is to emphasize to the reader that those who care enough to make change happen are the
one s who must step up, and enforce change. Protecting these books is an significant task that is key to
the greater good of society and future

The Theme Of Restorative Justice In The Kite Runner
Restorative justice, a key factor in today s society that allows us to function in a orderly way can be
portrayed in many ways such as the loyalty towards one friend or the redemption from despair and
pain.In the story The Kite Runner restorative justice is the leading factor in the role of the main
character Amir and is quest of redemption. Restorative Justice itself can only be achieved through
hard work along with the willingness to change and because of this I feel as though the movie (The
Kite Runner) had less of an impact showing the struggle of redeeming oneself unlike the actual
book. This being said having the opportunity to watch the film and read the book both greatly impacted
how I now view restorative justice. It made the theme of redemption being something you only
achieve with hard work and willingness to change oneself clear to me as the reader.
Now, likewise to what I said earlier watching the movie and reading the book did in fact make the
theme clear to me. The movie, to a certain extent showed how redeeming oneself requires hard work
and effort. This can be shown in the scene where Amir literally had to fight in order to take Sohrab
from Asself. In addition this can be read in the book when Amir says My memory of the fight with
Assef is amazingly vivid in stretches... .In like manner, both adaptations of the story showed how
change is necessary for redemption such as how Amir told Soraya of his wrong doing that happened
so many years ago. This

Symbolism In Eugene Onegin
Symbolism can be seen in everyday life. For example, the image of a caduceus will normally invoke
the thoughts of medicine or a doctor s office. But a caduceus does not mean medicine. In fact, it is
seen in mythology as the staff of Hermes, who was the messenger for the gods, conductor of the dead,
and protector of merchants and thieves. However, in modern days, the caduceus has become a symbol
for medicine. In literature, authors typically use symbols to better engage their readers in the story, by
making them reflect and think about the story rather than just reading it. Symbols can also often
communicate more meaning than simply stating the idea itself. In Eugene Onegin by Alexander
Pushkin, the moon is mentioned quite frequently. Upon first reading the novel, the reader may not
notice any significance with this. However, with further investigation it is easy to see that the moon
represents Tatyana and her mystical and mysterious ways. When the reader is first introduced to
Tatyana at the party that Eugene Onegin (the hero of the story) and Vladimir Lensky (a young poet
who is in love with Tatyana s younger sister, Olga), the narrator goes into explaining how Tatyana was
an odd sort of girl, who was not in to childish games: Upon her balcony appearing,
She loved to greet Aurora s show,
When dancing stars are disappearing
Against the heavens pallid glow,
When earth s horizon softly blushes,
And wind, the morning s herald, rushes,
And slowly day begins it flight.

Role of Parents in Morrison s Recitatif and O Connor s The Artificial Nigger
Parental figures in Toni Morrison s Recitatif and Flannery O Connor s The Artificial Nigger use
indoctrination in an attempt to uphold tradition and reinforce racial boundaries. While one adult
influence fulfills the mission entirely, the other must settle for inconstant, recurrent success and
ultimate failure.
In Recitatif and The Artificial Nigger a mother and a grandfather, respectively, with too much
responsibility seek to alter the lives of two children for the worst. Roberta Fisk and Nelson Head
receive introductions to the concept of racism from people with a great deal of control over their lives.
Morrison s piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the disturbing incident, Roberta ignores the racial difference between herself and Twyla
because their similarities rise above any color barrier. Two eight year olds orphaned to give their
mothers more freedom and less worry find common ground more easily than perhaps imagined. Even
after the unsettling encounter, Roberta gives Twyla reason to believe that she was sorry that her
mother would not shake [Twyla s] mother s hand (214). Rather unluckily, Roberta s presence during
her mother s actions, geared toward making Twyla and Mary feel small, upsets her stability. In the
same way, Nelson s feet slip from their base. Mr. Head not only publicly announces his racial
attitudes, but he does so repeatedly. As he himself says, A six month old child don t know a nigger
from anybody else (252). The same idea applies to a ten year old child, especially if someone feels it
necessary for him to be content to stay home for the rest of his life (251). Nelson even has the urge to
rest in a black woman s secure arms once his grandfather gets them lost in the city. Still, Nelson learns
to hate black people in Atlanta and decides [he ll] never go back again (270) based on his perception
of the city as allowed by Mr. Head. Though the competition almost overcomes them, Mr. Head and
Roberta s mother apparently possess almost absolute power.

Argumentative Speech About Hawaiians
How are you doing? I m doing okay. I m sorry for not sending you a letter sooner, but the days have
been super busy lately. I have gotten ill on the journey to Hawaii, but luckily the illness went away
shortly after we arrived. My body figure has noticeably gotten skinnier from my usual buff posture
because of famine during the voyage. I also haven t been able to trim my hair, so now it is very long
and untamable. He seems to be quite fond of us and our mission. I am currently sheltered in a hotel
room provided by the king himself, Liholiho. Most of the Hawaiians have taken a liking to our way of
life, too. They are quite peculiar. Can you believe that the Hawaiians wear loincloths and mini dresses
on the daily? I find that to be very obnoxious and offensive. I thought that it was blatant knowledge to
not show skin. Some Hawaiians, however, have tried to protest against us. Maybe they re just biased.
We ll convert them soon enough. Regardless, I just wanted to inform you that so far, our mission to
convert the Hawaiians has been going quite well. Their economy is a lot different from the economy
that we have back in England. First of all, the Hawaiians don t have many schools. Our teachers and
some of the missionaries are working with the Hawaiians to try and get schools created. Second of all,
the Hawaiians have a kapu system, which is pretty similar to our law system, but theirs is a lot more
strict. Isn t it ridiculous how one of their kapu states that men and women

Outline Of The Dinosaur Extinction
Outline
The Dinosaur Extinction:
Introduction to the K T event.
Theories of extinction.
Assumptions of extinction:
1. Due to climate change.
2. Due to small mammals that ate dinosaur eggs.
3. Due to dinosaurs bodies that are too big to be worked by their little brains.
4. Due to starvation.
5. Due to environmental change.
6. Due to Supernova that showered the earth in radiation.
7. Due to iridium enriched mud.
Extinction Still a theory.
The K T event, or the Cretaceous Tertiary extinction event, is the name given for the vanishing of the
dinosaurs and different species that took place about 65 million year back. For ages, scientists
believed that this event was caused due to the atmospheric and topographical changes that invaded on
the dinosaurs food supply. But, in the 1980s, researchers Luis and Walter Alvarez discovered a layer of
iridium on the earth s surface. It suggests that a comet, space rock or meteor effect might have caused
the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the 1990s, researchers found the enormous Chicxulub Crater at the
tip of Mexico s Yucantan Peninsula, which dates to the period being referred [1].
There are various theories, yet no proofs. Dinosaurs wandered the earth for about 160 million years
until their sudden eradication approximately 65 million years prior, in a K T extinction event. Other
than dinosaurs, numerous different types animals and plants ceased to

Ponca Indian Tribe Research Paper
I chose to research the Ponca Indian Tribe because they started out in the midwest, and currently still
live in Nebraska. The 4 elements I have elected to write about are the social organizations, their
customs and traditions, language, and the forms of government involved with the Ponca Indian Tribe.
The Ponca tribe started out in Minnesota, and in the early 1700 s they were relocated to western banks
of the Missouri River into present day Nebraska. They settled along the Ponca Creek in Knox County
Nebraska located in the northeastern part of the state. The Ponca tribe had a rough road to finally
settling in Nebraska, and Oklahoma. They were moved out by the Sioux Indians in the early 1700 s,
and faced many hardships. In 1879 the government kicked off the Ponca Indians on their land, and the
US government granted them land in the late 1900 s. The tribe s leader was Chief Standing Bear. He
was an inspiration to the Indian people. He began the trial of chief standing bear when he filed a

museum is another piece of history that belongs to the Ponca Indians. The museum has history

Ponca held their first ever Pow Wow after the tribes federal reinstatement in 1990. Traditionally, their

Blowin Bob Dylan Rhetoric
In the lyrics of Bob Dylan s first single from his album The Freewheelin Bob Dylan the author poses
lists of rhetorical questions of which he claims the answers are blowin in the wind. Since the song was
released in the early 1960 s, it is indisputable that the social structure and politics of our country have
changed significantly. Bob Dylan s purpose in writing the song Blowin in the Wind was to discourage
the racist activities in the United States with rhetorical questions to make it appear obvious they were
unjust.
By bringing attention to several key questions anti racism activists had, Dylan hoped to prevent racial
injustice. The song s opening line, How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a

Declaration Of Rights Of Man And Citizen Essay
Are all humans truly free and entitled to their rights? One major problem that is generated by the
Declarations of Rights of Man and Citizens is the reason the text was written, which is to prevent
public disputes by protecting the rights of man and the citizen (Declaration of the Rights of Man,
1789). Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be
made. In 1789, the language used in the text would have worked but in todays society it is conflicting
because it does not necessarily protect the rights of all people such as the LBGTQ community.
Resulting in people of such communities not feeling protected leaving them to question these rights.
The important problem with the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen is it does not do its job of
protecting all people with the written rights. The issues with the Declaration of Rights of Man and
Citizen can hopefully be resolved by simply rewriting these rights to better fit all human beings. ...

In the text it states, Ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public
calamities and of the corruption of governments, (Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789). The
solution to this problem was to give rights to humans essentially giving them freedom, which is what
they wanted, hopefully ending public disputes and corruption of governments (Declaration of the
Rights of Man, 1789). In 1789 it is possible that something like this could have worked but these
rights no longer protect all human beings. There are many movements today which cause public
disputes simply because people feel restricted from being themselves because these rights do not
apply to them. This has now become a problem that the world faces

As we mentioned above cutbacks of the Marine Corps and political situation that not excepting large

capabilities of amphibious operations was inadequate. As we seen from the history of Inchon landing,
General MacArthur created force of 70000 marines, reserves and soldiers as well as 261 strong fleet of

  • 2. Canadian Tire Case Study Canadian Tire Corporation has a supply chain that is unique to their business. With suppliers from all around the world, it is important for Canadian Tire to have a supply chain management system that allows inventory information to be accessed easily and fast. Two information systems are currently being used by CTC are Manugistics system (a supply chain management system) and, AS/400 which is used to track all inventory within the retail store. Many well known companies continue to use AS/400, for example HSBC and Office Depot. CTC has international offices and partnerships with third party logistic companies which adds value to the company because it reduces cost, time and the amount of work needed for planning. The supply chain network for Canadian Tire extends internationally to China, Hong Kong, India and Mexico. Approximately 43 percent of CTC s inventory is purchased primarily from Asia. The information system process uses help reduces the amount of work and planning that goes into collecting the information and data from these countries. International offices create value for the company overall by slim lining the communication channel to information that is required by head office, which increases productivity and reduces costs. Secondly, CTC also engages some third party logistic companies to provide distribution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because CTC could only commit to firm orders for the first two weeks of an inventory forecast. Additional orders would be communicated to suppliers later electronically. • 3. An Analysis on the Effectiveness of Malaysia Current... 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background Macmillan English Dictionary defines recycling as the process of treating waste materials such as newspaper and bottles so that they can be used again . Beside paper and bottles there have lots of recyclable items such as aluminum cans, scrap metals, plastic and printer cartridges. Recycling saves energy and reduces pollution and would help slow down global climate change. The history of recycling is started nearly 4000 years ago, there was a recovery and reuse system of bronze scrap in operation in Europe and there is evidence that composting was carried out in China. In 1898, The Association of Cleansing Superintendents is established, which today has evolved into the Institute of Wastes Management. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2003, p.306). Solid domestic waste is one of the major environmental problems faced by most municipalities in the country particularly in urban areas. The generation rate of waste is 1.0kg/day per person and 80 percent of the 230 landfills in the country have only two years of lifespan left. Despite rigorous campaigns of recycling, the attainment of recycling rate has increased from 1 2 percent in 1997 to merely 5 percent in 2001 (Aini et al. 2002, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306). Studies have shown that the most significant factor affecting nature is not the official government policy but public awareness (Chukwuma 1998, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306) or public concern for environment and the readiness to bear the cost of minimizing the adverse impacts of their activities (Ramsey and Rickson 1976, cited in Said et al. 2003, p.306). 2.2 Malaysia Current Recycling Campaign Accordingly, various policies and strategies are currently developed and implemented by the government in order to ensure sustainable development of the nation. The root causes of environmental problems are related to human activities, consumption and production patterns, many of which are unaffected by environmental policies. • 5. Dependence Of Women On Men INTRODUCTION: Dependence of women on men has been a main feature of Indian society since time immemorial. Women have always been considered inferior to men. The social notion has been that women should always be subordinate to men and therefore this inferior sex has always been subjected to oppression and suppression by men. Subordination of women has been caused by physical, economic, psychological and internal pressure reasons. The situation becomes much more miserable when taking into consideration the plight of widows . OBJECTIVES: In this paper, the socio legal aspect of widowhood in India has been discussed with main focus on Hindu widows. The condition of widows in traditional as well as modern India has been discussed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The above comment made by Saroj clearly gives an idea of the mindset regarding widowhood prevalent in our society. It shows how much a woman is dependent on her husband. It is believed that life of a married woman revolves around her husband and he is the master of her life and if he is not there the life of the wife is meaningless. As soon as her husband dies , the women loses her identity. Such thinking is the main cause of the plight suffered by the widows in the name of traditions and rituals. Even the women follow such traditions and ideas because these have internalized them. The status of Hindu widows in traditional and modern days has been described below. Traditional In societies such as in India, widows are treated inferior to married women and have a harder time than the widows in the west. Earlier, in many parts of India widows were not allowed to wear coloured saris and ornaments and their heads were shaved and in south they were not even permitted to wear blouse under their saris . This was done to avoid any male sexual attraction and protect their chastity. According to 2000 year old texts by Manu, the Hindu progenitor of mankind: A virtuous wife is one who ... Teaching ESL Writing (Final Paper) Teaching ESL Writing At times the plethora of professional journals and the myriad subjects treated therein seems like little more than a dizzying exercise in redundancy and a forum for education professionals to justify their worth in a competitive job market; however, I would like to think that there is a hidden value for those of us whose brains seem to operate in what some might call a spiral rhetorical pattern, that as we work our way around and around certain issues related to composition instruction, we are moving gradually upward toward broader understanding and better practice. Some studies seem to do little more than show the need for more studies, their authors falling back on such standard phrases as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (3) Having lately read a great deal of professional literature regarding the ups and downs of teaching college composition to ESL students, I ve noticed that students with LDs are conspicuously absent a fact that suggests one or more possible conclusions: Students with LDs just aren t represented in college level ESL courses; Students with LDs are there but they don t have needs separate from those of non LD students that would require special consideration by college teachers; These students are there and have needs requiring special attention by their teachers, but the teachers themselves lack understanding of what those needs are and how to accommodate them. Which of these holds most true, in general, is what I ve set out to discover, in hopes that I will find a hidden font of knowledge addressing the singular needs of ESL students with LDs and how teachers do, or can, meet those needs. The possibility that my first reason mentioned above might be true leads to a political can of worms I d prefer to leave unopened; therefore, I ll concentrate on the third choice that LD students who are also learning English as a second or other language are merely going unrecognized due to the masking of LD symptoms behind communicative difficulties resulting from the hardships inherent in non native language learning. • 7. The Danger Of Cyber Attacks On Power Plants The danger of cyber attacks on power plants are something that needs to be looked at closely to avoid costly deadly incidents. Cybersecurity has become a vital component of our world today and it needs to evolve fast to keep up in its protection from the outside. Cybersecurity protects us from unauthorized shutdowns, break ins, financial and social ruin. We live in a world that has become completely reliant on computers for everything. They are able to cause chaos and even shutdown nuclear centrifuges, air defense systems, and electrical grids. (Hathaway, Crootof, Levitiz, Nix, Nowlan, Perdue Spiegel, 2012) Cyber attacks are more common today due to the increase capability of technology. Important information along with every aspect of people s lives are kept on computers or cell phones which are vulnerable at all times. An example of this would be the leaked snapchat photos of celebrities, stolen identities and unauthorized access from an outside computer into a power plant. In New York State we have four nuclear power plants. These nuclear power plants contribute to the economy, society and the environment. The Nuclear power plants are Entergy s Fitzpatrick in Scriba and Indian Point in Buchanan, and Exelon s Ginna in Ontario and Nine mile point in Scriba provide New York households and employers with over 5,000 megawatts (MW)of emissions free electricity and nearly 42 million megawatt hours (MWh) of annual electricity generation. In Amel Saleh s essay, it states, Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world s population, we consume 40 percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands and obtains 70 new toys a year. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they will expect to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like narcissism, separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved ones... Just don t overindulge and do try to make them meaningful. . Autism indicates a group of complicated neurodevelopment disorders depicted by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior and struggles with social communication and interaction. The reporting tradition of revealing misconduct was already well established much before the 20th Century. Its practise even predates the publication of the first successful colonial newspaper in 1704, demonstrating the press watchdog role has had deep historical roots in democracy much prior to the 1960s. Over the past three centuries, investigative reporters have tried to make a difference by raising public consciousness about perceived wrongdoings. One of the most notable reporters of the time was Ron Hall, who has been considered to have virtually invented the art of investigative journalism in Britain, as one of a trio of young reporters in the 1960s, he created the insight team of the Sunday Times. In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4] until its receiver becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay and energy consumption) of various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty cycle networks. There are two features that make flooding in low duty cycle networks challenging. First, a packet is unlikely to be received by multiple nodes simultaneously as in always awake networks. To broadcast a packet, a sender has to transmit the same packet multiple times if its receivers do not wake up at the same time. Thus flooding in such networks is realized essentially by multiple unicasts. Second, unlike wired networks, wireless communication is notoriously unreliable [4]. A transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions are not successful due to wireless loss. The combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable links necessitates the design of a different flooding mechanism than those found in wired networks and always awake wireless networks. These combined have a knock on effects on reliability and cost [4]. One straightforward solution could be building a routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of solutions have been shown [7] to be fragile, because the failure of a parent node prevents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Pluralism As An Ethical Theory An evaluation of the moral pluralism is a theory to find out how effective it is as an ethical theory is what inspired this article. An understanding of the theory is very necessary to be able to give a clear picture of it. The article looks at it in the form of the theory of value and the theory of right conduct and how effect it is as an ethical theory. Considering its shortcomings and the objections it has faced is a necessary step. With all that into consideration, I will support the argument that moral pluralism is incorrect due to the objection that it has not been able to provide verdicts for a varied range of cases. Moral pluralism is an idea which encompasses several theories that have been formulated in relation to things that are morally right and those that are wrong, with incompatibility to an individual s personal moral beliefs. As an acknowledgement of plurality of main moral laws, pluralism must brace the contention of duty situations (Timmons, 2002). Ross s theory of right conduct s rules of prima facie, including the relevant non moral credible information, are not able to give valid moral rulings for a massive variety of cases (Timmons, 2002). From this, it is clear that they lack the type of solid support a rule or principle earns when it encompasses the moral norms of society. The fact that it doesn t encompass the decisive moral verdicts but has consistency in support of the moral norms of society shows that an internal support that is weak towards those rules instead of a strong internal support that is expected of ... The quest for happiness, life as well as liberty are for instances cited as natural rights by the Declaration of Independence of the USA. Human rights can be interpreted as incessant with what were formerly identified as natural rights. This steadiness is not only historical, but theoretical. Many theorists have proposed that the most relevant theories to the development of the human rights notion are natural rights, religion, natural law, legal positivism, in addition to Marxism. The idea of individual rights rose from the understanding that because reason is the key characteristic human beings possess, every individual has the right to choose their specific authorities as well as to formulate their own laws. A simple question, thus, is the valid authority and duty of government in the framework of human rights. Natural law has unbiased, exterior existence. According to the supposition deduced from the ESS (evolutionary stable strategy), it is human nature to use force. • 23. Aztec Civilization Aztecs, also called Mexica, is a Mesoamerican civilization that flourished around 1350. Tenochtitlan is the capital of the Aztec empire built on the shores of Lake Texcoco. Aztecs were believed to be nomads who came from the Toltec tribe. They wandered into the valley of Mexico around 1325 and started to form villages. They dug canals, drained lakes and converted them into fertile fields. They also built the beautiful city of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs were known for human sacrifice, which was associated to religious rituals. They believed that their gods sacrificed their own lives to sustain the earth. In return, human blood must be sacrificed to the sun, moon, earth, and vegetation gods to provide them nourishment to keep the nature and cosmos in balance (Benton DiYanni, pg. 325 326). The Aztecs arose as the leading force in central Mexico taking the region s city states under their power by the 15th century. They developed a sophisticated political, social, commercial and religious organization. However, the Spaniards, led by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes defeated and conquered the Aztecs in 1521. The Aztecs highly regarded songs and poetry. During their festivals, they held poetry contests and presentations that included musicians, acrobats, and players. Music and dance were also important parts of their rituals and ceremonies. • 25. Change In Fahrenheit 451 Can it be possible for people to change how they see and interpret the world? In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, Montag leaves his past, ultimately changing the way he thinks. In the passage Montag has just escaped the Hound as well as his previous life, and is being carried away by the river into the forest while thinking about his future. The revelation in this passage is a culmination of all the knowledge that Montag acquires throughout the book. Ray Bradbury conveys to the reader how finally leaving his old world has completed the change inside of Montag through the use of metaphors and repetition. The first way the author describes how Montag feels about the fakeness present in the world of his past is through the use of metaphors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this passage, the word burn progresses over time from burning, to burned, to burnt. This relates to what Montag is thinking, and brings him to his realization that the firemen need to stop burning books. This is reinforced by the metaphor of The sun burning every day. It burned time.... So if he burnt things with the firemen, and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt! (Bradbury 140 141). The burning of the sun and it s likening to time and how the firemen and Montag burn tells that too much is being burned as well as destroyed. At this point the change within Montag is completed, and is shown by the metaphor of Now the guild of the asbestos weaver must open shop very soon (Bradbury 141). The guild of asbestos weavers refers to the intellectuals in his past community, who need to come forth and share the good that comes from having individual knowledge. Bradbury ends the metaphor with telling the reader that the weavers must open shop very soon, making the reader aware that change needs to happen. And this begins by coming forth with knowledge and stopping the firemen. Somewhere the saving and putting away had to begin again and someone had to do the saving and keeping (Bradbury 141), as he realizes the importance of preserving books and gleaning important information and knowledge from them. Bradbury s use of the saving and keeping is to emphasize to the reader that those who care enough to make change happen are the one s who must step up, and enforce change. Restorative Justice itself can only be achieved through hard work along with the willingness to change and because of this I feel as though the movie (The Kite Runner) had less of an impact showing the struggle of redeeming oneself unlike the actual book. This being said having the opportunity to watch the film and read the book both greatly impacted how I now view restorative justice. It made the theme of redemption being something you only achieve with hard work and willingness to change oneself clear to me as the reader. Now, likewise to what I said earlier watching the movie and reading the book did in fact make the theme clear to me. The movie, to a certain extent showed how redeeming oneself requires hard work and effort. This can be shown in the scene where Amir literally had to fight in order to take Sohrab from Asself. In addition this can be read in the book when Amir says My memory of the fight with Assef is amazingly vivid in stretches... .In like manner, both adaptations of the story showed how change is necessary for redemption such as how Amir told Soraya of his wrong doing that happened so many years ago. • 27. Symbolism In Eugene Onegin Symbolism can be seen in everyday life. For example, the image of a caduceus will normally invoke the thoughts of medicine or a doctor s office. But a caduceus does not mean medicine. In fact, it is seen in mythology as the staff of Hermes, who was the messenger for the gods, conductor of the dead, and protector of merchants and thieves. However, in modern days, the caduceus has become a symbol for medicine. In literature, authors typically use symbols to better engage their readers in the story, by making them reflect and think about the story rather than just reading it. Symbols can also often communicate more meaning than simply stating the idea itself. In Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, the moon is mentioned quite frequently. Upon first reading the novel, the reader may not notice any significance with this. However, with further investigation it is easy to see that the moon represents Tatyana and her mystical and mysterious ways. When the reader is first introduced to Tatyana at the party that Eugene Onegin (the hero of the story) and Vladimir Lensky (a young poet who is in love with Tatyana s younger sister, Olga), the narrator goes into explaining how Tatyana was an odd sort of girl, who was not in to childish games: Upon her balcony appearing, She loved to greet Aurora s show, When dancing stars are disappearing Against the heavens pallid glow, When earth s horizon softly blushes, And wind, the morning s herald, rushes, And slowly day begins it flight. Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be made.
