The Mary Celeste
There are lots of mysteries in the world today. One of these was the finding of an abandoned ship, the
finding of the Mary Celeste. The ship was found with no passengers and no reason to be abandoned.
These events eventually inspired a young writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to write a book about the
Mary Celeste which leads rumors that lead into other myths. Also Scientist have found a very likely
and plausible reason for the crew to leave. The Mary Celeste was most likely abandoned by choice.
The Mary Celeste was an abandoned ship found off the coast of Spain. Mary was a one hundred feet
long, two hundred eighty two ton, Canadian built. Upon further inspection of the ship, it was
completely empty of any humans, living or otherwise, though ... Show more content on

On November 5, 1872, Captain Briggs sailed with a crew of eight, and with his wife and two year old
daughter also aboard. They went about a mile from port because of weather. On November 7, they
were sailing again, bound for Genoa, Italy. Their cargo: 1700 barrels of crude alcohol for fortifying
wines.
On February 15th, 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered drifting by the crew of the Dei Gratia.
Though slightly damaged, her compass stand had been knocked over and the compass destroyed; the
hatch covers were also off, she was basically fine. Her boat was missing, as was the captain s
chronometer, navigation book and ship s register. There was a lot of water between decks, in the
forward deckhouse and in the cabin.
The story of The Mary Celeste tends to link with other mysteries throughout its years. The link
between other very old stories mostly link back to a book written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his
early writing years. The book was based on The Mary Celeste but the book was a work of fiction, not
fact. Some start using other very old stories as reasons for the disappearances. The explanations of
why things work or happen the way they do started leading into even pirates and creature of the deep,
giant squids, and even to great lengths such as time travel. However, there is no events or objects that
prove something of these

Active support is a person focused procedure for encouraging and improving individual s life of
people with intellectual disability by maximizing participation with all types of related activities in
daily life (Totsika, Toogood, Hastings, 2008). All support was derived from trained staff to achieve the
significant purpose of active support which increasing the opportunities of meaning participation in
daily life activities that suit with the level of ability and age (Toogood, 2008). The result of active
support procedure is the positive improvement of client s activity engagement. According to the
conceptual and value basis of active support includes primary focusing on relationship and daily life
activities of people with severe intellectual disability, using a wide range of supporting procedure that
appropriate with client s needs, and the main emphasis is staff assistance (Stancliffe, Jones, Mansell,
Lowe, 2008). Moreover, the component systems of an active support are composed of routine and
rhythms (making functional routine schedule for client based on individual preferences), activity
protocol (making task analysis to teach new skills and encourage individual success), activity support
plan (making flexible activity plans, manipulating staffs to support clients and following the
individual life experiences), community compact monitoring (focusing on community facilities for
people with intellectual disabilities and a social support to improve the quality of

Urban Environment Is The Natural, Built And Institutional...
Urban Environment is the natural, built and institutional elements that determine the physical, mental
and social health and wellbeing of people who live in cities and towns.
The urban environment is more than a physically defined entity. It includes the environmental and
ecological context, psycho social structures and supports, and patterns of migration as well as all
aspects of the geography and politics of cities. Hence, governance arrangements, cultural identities
and related activities, housing and urban form, education, food security, health services, land use and
tenure, transport, water, crime and exposure to pollutants and extreme weather events are all
dimensions of urban life that are properly included in a focus on health in a changing urban
environment. (Chen, 2011)
Happiness
The quantitative analysis of happiness by social scientists has resulted in the development of
sophisticated scales to measure individual and collective norms that include satisfaction with life as a
whole as well as with various domains of life, such as health and income. And there are a number of
on going surveys that attempt to measure happiness, one being the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index,
which has been measuring the happiness of Australians since April 2001 (see Cummins et al. 2003). It
uses the Subjective Wellbeing Homeostasis management system, which suggests that we hold
happiness within a relatively narrow range of values. It has been shown to be resilient. It would seem

Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( Gad )
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders today, and can
often be closely linked to concurrent symptoms or disorders including physiological, behavioral, other
anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. (Merino, Senra Ferreiro, 2016) (Cacioppo
Fregberg, 2013, p. 688). GAD most notably produces symptoms of excessive worry and anxiety
related to non specific risks, which often leads to functional decline both socially and professionally
(Roberge et al., 2015). GAD reveals instances of links to biological origins such as heredity and
biochemistry, as well as, ties to an individual s cognitive development and socioeconomic
environment (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013).
GAD s potentially interwoven origin marks significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment.
Patients often leave the opportunity for diagnosis of GAD to the primary caregiver (Roberge et al.,
2015). Primary care professionals must be able to attribute physiological symptoms to psychological
conditions in many of these cases to prevent missed or misdiagnosis, as well as correctly evaluate
potential psychological disorders akin to GAD. The Roberge et al. (2015) research article indicates the
need for increased efforts in preparing primary care professionals to properly screen and diagnose
patients with GAD.
Preferred treatment for GAD includes medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but more
extensive therapy may be called upon in some instances of recurrence or

Respect For Authority In The Jungle Book
Respect for authority is a central theme in the Jungle Book and the guiding principle in this law
reinforces that elders are to be respected and obeyed. Akela was the ultimate authority in the jungle
and respect for him was of the utmost importance. In humans this has similar meaning, though not as
highly looked upon as in the jungle kingdom. Some humans honor those who are wiser and older, but
it is not law to do so and many do not respect elders. Jungle law is about obedience and respect, it is
clearly written in the law. Human law is complicated and complex and within it are many more
smaller laws that are less about the greater good and more about the individual person. Baloo teaches
Mowgli the laws and the language of the jungle and respect is a large part of that. A child could apply
this law by simply listening and obeying his/her parents. Just as Mowgli was taught, children must be
taught how to behave. Saying please or thank you is an example of respect that can be learned early.
Adults can apply this by taking care of an elderly parent who is having medical issues and needs
assistance. An adult child who ensured their elderly parent has their needs met and are advocated for is
an example of how this might be applies. I agree with this principle and I think it is one that used to be
practiced more. In some countries, it is law that adult children take care of their parents, but that is not
the case in the United States. I have heard stories of elderly people

Hans Holbein, the Ambassadors
Hans Holbein The Ambassadors #10086;Introduction The Ambassadors is one of the most complex
and arguably portrait which Holbein had painted. The purpose of this report is to analyze Han
Holbeinfs painting, gThe Ambassadorsh. The main task of this report is to uncover the meaning
of this painting, as it still remains unclear. Firstly, I will give a short introduction about the painter.
Then, I will examine the characteristics of the people and the objects in the painting. Lastly, I will
attempt to identify the meaning of the painting. #10086;About Han Holbein Hans Holbein the younger

and his works ranges from woodcuts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What does the distorted skull mean? According to the analysis of some experts, this skull added to the
Ambassadors marks the artist s consistent vision of the frailty of human destiny. Others think that it
might not hold any meaning to it. Holbein has used mathematics to draw the skull by a process called
anamorphic projection. Maybe the skull was added just because Holbein wanted to show off his skills
because intense calculations are needed to create such effects. Other than the skull on the foreground,
there is another skull hidden in the band of Jean de Dinteville s cap and a crucifix hidden behind the
green curtain on the far left of the painting. It still remains unclear that why these two skulls and the
crucifix are placed in the painting. #10086;Conclusion Lastly, after much observation, I think this
painting has close relations with Religion and Death. The Crucifix and the Skull known as symbol of
death suggests how death is inevitable for human beings. It indicates the hidden yet truthful realization
of human mortality. Whilst the ambassadors stand there proudly amid their tools of knowledge, death
is constantly there. No matter how advance science is, death is inevitable. I am sure Holbein painted
the Crucifix for a reason. Maybe he is trying to indicate that people are so overwhelm by the progress
of science that they start to forget about the importance of

Cognitive Disorders And Its Effects On The Brain
Cognitive disorders involve problems in memory, orientation, level of consciousness, and other
cognitive functions (Huang et al., 2015) . These difficulties are due to abnormalities in neural
chemistry, structure or physiology originating in the brain or secondary to systemic illness (Huang et
al.). Patients with cognitive disorders may show psychiatric symptoms secondary to the cognitive
problems, such as depression, anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations and delusions and impaired motor
function(Huang et al.). One of the major cognitive disorders is dementia, which results from impaired
cognition, due to damage to the brain. Dementia is an umbrella that describes a wide range of

As the US population ages, Alzheimer s has increased significantly (71%) (AA, 2016). In 2013, there
was over 84,000 deaths from AD in the U.S, however in 2016 the mortality rate doubled to 700,000
(AA, 2016). Among people age 70, 61% of those with AD are expected to die before the age of 80
compared with 30% of people without Alzheimer s (AA, 2016). Most common risk factor for
Alzheimer s disease is age, however additional risk factors include gender (women) and genetic and
biological contributions. An estimated 3.2 million women aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer
s. Among those aged 71 and older, 16 percent of women have Alzheimer s compared with 11 percent
of men (AA, 2016).
The abilities and interest of someone with dementia will change over time. There have been increasing
reports of non cognitive symptoms, including loss of motor function in older persons diagnosed with
Alzheimer s. It is estimated that up to 50% of older persons may have some elements of motor
impairments by the age of 80 years, however this would suggest that it would be even a greater
percentage for people living with dementia (AA, 2016). Motor impairment can include reduced gait
speed, loss of muscle strength and bulk, and reduced balance, as well as dexterity (AA, 2016). Loss of
muscle strength and bulk is common in Alzheimer s patients and is recognized as a prominent feature
in older individuals. Morphologic studies

My Table Conflict
The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a commitment to
one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages. Sometimes society even
questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle is
addressed in Jane Campion s film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of
autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the
film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director
highlights the contest for one person, with immense talent and insecurity, to conform to the social
norms of the 30 s, 40 s, and onward. The director s use of narrations, ... Show more content on

Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book The Story of Film he
mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in the film. Campion and her
cinematographer, Stuart Dryburgh, used wide angle lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film (Cousins,
708). Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes
of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She is
looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be viewed as her
containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive outlook is asserted in the scenes
where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting in the window while it is wrapped around her. She
smiles, alone in her freedom to be who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the
closing scene, the author is home and content to be within that window. Sue Gillet concurs; She
speaks the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1). Janet Frame is no longer is is

A Cream Cracker Under the Settee
How does Alan Bennett create a character that it both comical and sad? Explain why he wrote this
monologue.
A Cream Cracker under the Settee is a monologue of a character named Doris, who is in her 70 s and
is coming to the end of her life. She fell whilst cleaning a picture of her and her deceased husband
Wilfred on their wedding day, in her living room where most of the play is set.
The writer Alan Bennett , reveals allot about old aged pensioners through Doris, She portrays the
typical old lady, who uses speech that we wouldn t normally use in this day and age. Many old people
have petty concerns that they obsess over; Doris s petty concerns are cleanliness and hygiene which in
most ways makes the audience laugh throughout the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What really does get on Doris s nerves is the way that Doris leaves the gate open when she leaves, so
that all day she can hear the alarming echo of the crashing gate which makes Doris s ears quake.
Being as the gate is open makes it seem like nobody is home, which invites small irritating children to
use her garden as a toilet. When this happens Doris gets very mad because she can t get up and tell
them to get lost.
Doris is very `judgemental` towards Zulema. She sees her as an arrogant controlling cleaner, who can
t clean for her life. Doris thinks that she doesn t need Zulema there at all, that she can look after
herself, she can cope perfectly well on her own even though she knows it is a lie. Zulema is constantly
telling Doris s that her next and last home will be Stafford house and I am the only person who stands
between you and Stafford house and follows Zulema how is she coping? Wouldn t she be better off in
Stafford house? which also frightens Doris into being tough. Zulema bosses Doris about allot, tells her
what to do all the time for example, Doris, the ewbank is out of bounds You don t have to clean the
bath. Let the dirt wait. It won t kill you .
Doris is allot older than Zulema and feels like she should have earned some respect because of her age

Essay Genetically Modified Foods
Introduction Let s face it, the term genetically modified (GM) foods is not the most appetizing word in
the English language and neither is the term genetically engineered foods for that matter. Whether or
not you realize it, you have consumed at least one product that contains genetically modified foods.
These modified foods are hiding all over your supermarkets and in some instances, there is no way to
tell just by looking at it. But, they have been around for more than two decades and it has helped to
keep our food supply alive. The technological innovation that is genetically modified foods was first

They wanted to create crops that were able to be insect resistant, disease resistant, herbicide tolerant,
and climate tolerant. These altered crops also benefit consumers and markets by having an improved
texture and flavor, a longer shelf life, and at times, added nutritional value (Lessick, Keithley, Swason,
Lemon, 2002). The advantages of genetically modified crops range from a higher yield, due to its
ability to withstand natural occurrences, to an increase in nutritional qualities. In theory, this sounds
like a foolproof method because the more resistant crops are, the stronger they are to withstand any
dangers it may face. In 1996, two types of genetically engineered seeds were introduced
commercially, known as herbicide tolerant (HT) and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (Budinger, 2010). The
herbicide tolerant seeds were engineered to survive the direct application of herbicides. Herbicides are
used to kill unwanted weeds or plants that could damage the crops. Regular crops are not able to
withstand the intensity of herbicides and would otherwise die from direct application. Bacillus
thuringiensis (Bt), other type of genetically engineered seed, was created to produce toxin within the
plant cells. These toxins are meant to kill certain agricultural insect pests that would destroy millions
of acres of crops. By using these types of GE seeds, farmers are able

Sixth Mass Extinction Research Paper
The Sixth Mass Extinction? Is the earth entering its sixth mass extinction? Many scientists think that it
s very clear that we are. There have currently been five mass extinctions, and they all have a huge
common factor: they happened over many, many years. Over those many years extreme amounts of
species died out. Right now, approximately one third of land animals are decreasing in population
numbers. This is just one factor that leads scientists to believe that we are entering, or already in,
another mass extinction. So, are we in another extinction? In the past 10,500 13,000 years 77.5 percent
of large mammals went extinct in North and South America. Scientists also examined a group of 177
mammals and discovered that in the past 115 years they had lost over 30 percent of their land, and 40
percent of them has decreased immensely in population. The decrease is ongoing, even within
common species populations. Even though there are still high numbers of elephants, for example,
there is significantly less than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bird populations continue to dwindle. Invertebrates make up about 97 percent of life on earth;
approximately 30 percent of the invertebrates are at endangerment of extinction. About 51 percent of
mammals are at risk of extinction. Approximately 68 percent of plant species are at risk of extinction
as well. If all organisms are going through massive losses in population, how could that not be
affecting biodiversity?
The effects on biodiversity of this extinction will be catastrophic. If species are dying out links of the
food chain and of food webs are be missing. With less species on the earth, because they are dying
within this so called sixth mass extinction , the earth is getting less and less biodiverse. With the
missing links of the food web/chains that causes a reaction in which whole habitats or biomes will

Comparison Between Raphael And Leonardo Da Vinci s Last...
Art is a conversation between the artist and the audience, and through which the artwork is the
medium between both. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece,
and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and
knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple
conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is the
artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the audience
is time. Throughout history, this has been the case Raphael and his Galatea, and Leonardo da Vinci
and his Last Supper but in more recent times, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each
block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks
fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a
distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which the
industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This
elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through the
intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any preconstructed
view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as possible, Judd focuses the
attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and particularly the piece. Of
course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his views, from the work.
Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are affecting the piece, I now
consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and

when in the beginning of the drawing, my little cousin was screaming while I was trying to focus on
creating a unique nonrepresentational image. This was in the living room, where I usually focus while

When looking at the image, it shows how the composition stands out with different creativity that has
been created out of anger and in a few spaces its calmed. The elements of design, I deliberately used

How Britons Take The Bus
How Britons take the bus
Napier Matriculation Number: 40182705
Introduction
This ethnographic research proposal deals with how British people have a particular way to take the
bus. I will focus on buses in Edinburgh and I will explore how those rules are not easy to determine.
They can be thus qualified as unwritten. I will eventually explore the fact that taking the buses can
even been seen as a mix of all British rules and can even help to define Britishness.
1.1 Theoretical Framework
At first, one can wonder how different taking the bus is in the UK compared to other countries. It can
be seen as a normalised process which is everywhere the same. However some things are different.
Firstly queuing which has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had to take the bus for two hours per day to go my high school and I saw the bus as a way to make a
break between the school and my homework.
2. Main Aims and Research Questions
This research proposal aims to analyse and understand the British behaviours in public places and to
characterise what is Britishness . The data is taken in buses round Edinburgh and at bus stops in the
Scottish capital. How can we qualify the British behaviours in public places?
How can Britishness can be seen and analysed in everyday life?
In what ways transports can be seen as a mean which condense all the unwritten rules existing in
Great Britain?
3. Why is this interesting
I find this topic really fascinating as this leads to condense all British rules about politeness, queuing,
and general behaviour. Being arrived in September in Edinburgh, I have had some difficulties to fully
adjust to the British bus system. Having taken nearly only the bus in Edinburgh as I chose to not bring
my car here in Scotland, I feel my insider knowledge will be real advantage to interpret data. I m now
of course fully acquainted with the bus system and I ve even seen myself helping people and giving
directions many times, even to local people! I found this subject particularly interesting as it can seem
as a very simple topic. Taking the bus is something we do every day and even most of the time several
times a day, this is especially true for students.

The Papacy Of The Pope
The Papacy
The Papacy, which is the power the Pope has, and the hierarchy he is the head of, has a long history
filled with corruption, greed, but also good. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, controller of
the faith, and yet throughout history, Popes have not been all that faithful, but terribly corrupt and
sinful. So if it was so sinful, then why is the Papacy still so prominent in today s society? In the world
today, over 1.2 million people are Roman Catholics and supposedly because of their faith all of them
respect and follow the Pope at the head of the church. Even today the Pope still holds authority, and
the Papacy has morphed into a beacon of goodwill that simply shows the goodness of mankind. So
why still do people disparage him as demonic or the antichrist ? To know this let us truly start at the
beginning.
Every story has a beginning, and this one begins in the 1st century. When Peter died, the Christians
were at a loss as to what they should do; some took the route of building a hierarchical church whose
head would be called the Bishop of Rome. In 467A.D. the dark ages began after the fall of Rome.
Literacy, science, art, all began to suffer as people struggled to survive and the only people to preserve
any of these studies was the Catholic Church. Their clergy were some of the only people able to read
and write, and because of this, they tirelessly worked to preserve the Bible and other literature and
spread both stories and the gospel to

Memorialization Of The Great War
This thesis has aimed to widen local studies on the memorialisation of the Great War. The study of
remembrance is ever expanding, with historians, local researchers and organisations aiming to broaden
the spectrum of research on the topic. Historians have researched memorialisation from local to
international level and the wide spectrum of studies allows for a better understanding of how people
and communities reacted to the Great War. Of the 5,704,416 men mobilised by Britain, around
723,000 died. Since the dead were buried overseas in war cemeteries, it was down to communities
throughout Britain to erect war memorials for their fallen. War memorials became focal points of
commemorative and anniversary events for the Great War, they were a way in which future
generations could pay their respects to the dead and could also show as a reminder the influence that a
worldwide war had on a community and country. There are around 38,000 war memorials in Britain,
while in the North East of England, the number amounts to around 2,001 , and in Middleton in
Teesdale there are three dedicated to the Great War. This thesis focused ... Show more content on

How Does Joseph Heller Use Colonel Cathcart Personify The...
Regardless of one s political beliefs or occupations, almost everyone despises the bureaucracy and
what it represents: red tape. In Joseph Heller s novel, Catch 22, in which he satirizes and criticizes the
brutal yet meaningless nature of war, he depicts the immoral powers of the bureaucracy and the war
machine through the character Colonel Cathcart. Heller uses Cathcart as a medium in which he
personifies the bureaucracy during times of war. Due to this, the novel would have been irreparably
damaged if Cathcart were to be removed as he personifies the constricting views of the war machine
by symbolizing their immoral pursuit of victory and the significance behind the true evil hidden in the
system of the war machine. Therefore Heller uses Cathcart to paint ... Show more content on

Cathcart best personifies and symbolizes this immoral compass during times of war. This is best
expressed through his own attitude towards victory and success like when he huddled over his desk,
and... wrote, Black Eyes! At the top of the right column he wrote, Feathers in My Cap! (Heller 212).
This shows his binary view of war through arbitrary labels: either he wins or loses. To Cathcart, it
does not matter the lives that are lost or the decisions that were made, as long as he can win he does
not care. This is best supplemented by the fact that Cathcart wants to be a general (Heller 62). This
pairs with his binary view of war because in the end, he is happy with anything that brings him glory
and thus furthering his agenda. These analyses of Cathcart are eerily similar to that of the war machine
because just like how Cathcart wanted to become a general at any cost, the United States wanted to
win no matter what morals they had to throw aside. Therefore Cathcart is an integral part of the novel
in that his immoral pursuit of becoming a general symbolizes the United States war machine s binary
and immoral pursuit of

Essay on The Health Belief Model (HBM)
The Health Belief Model (HBM) is one of the first theories of health behavior. It was developed in the
1950s by social psychologists in the U.S. Public Health Services to better understand the widespread
failure of tuberculosis screening programs. Today it continues to be one of the most widely used
theories. Research studies use it to explain and predict health behaviors seen in individuals. There is a
broad range of health behaviors and subject populations that it is applied in. The concepts in the model

Pilgrims Progress Essay
Writing in first person or third person determines not only the pronouns, but how we perceive the
story. Often, first person creates more intimacy between the reader and the character. The unreliable
narrator is also most common in this perspective. Third person is less invasive and less limiting. In
third person, the narrator does not participate in the action. Oddly enough, Pilgrims Progress
communicates its narrative in multiple perspectives. Admittedly, any story that employs a first person
pronoun is in first person. However, the first person narrator is only there to remind us of the real
world. All the action in Pilgrims Progress happens through Christian s eyes. Christian s story occurs in
a dream. This clever trick enables John Bunyan to be as unspecific about time and place as he wishes.

This style makes the story fast paced, but it usually limits connections to the characters. This
dispassionate observer does not explain the character s feelings or thoughts. The writer communicates

evidence that was relevant to the search terms. This ensures that the evidence that was found was
relevant and reliable. The Cinahl website was useful to gather background information on the topic
such as how a UTI is contracted and how it effects the body. The Cochrane Library and Medline
website was useful to because it gave specific information on studies that had already been done by
other researchers. This helped to ensure that the study that is being undertaken was searching for the

Geography In The Great Gatsby
Foster states that geography can be used in literary works in several different ways. Some of these are
to help set the plot, provide descriptions of characters, describe the symbol of the story, and help
develop the characters. A writer can use geography to show the plot of a story, such as in the book To
Kill A Mockingbird . This book was set in the south in the 1930 s and many different issues like
racism and southern description were executed in the plot. The geography of a book can also be used

Distribution Model for ESD
In some ways, electronic software distribution is the same as conventional physical delivery models.
For one, the publisher, distributor and reseller all work together to provide end users with software and
customer service, while protecting the publisher s intellectual property and sales. However, the roles
and responsibilities of traditional channel partners are not identical in the online world. ESD and
electronic commerce have opened the door for new players and nontraditional roles.
There are three commonly used distribution models: Direct Distribution = Publisher End User
In direct distribution, publishers benefit by controlling the process of delivery to the end user.
Furthermore, publishers build direct relationships with their customer base. Drawbacks for the direct
model for publishers include the time required to manage the process and the difficulty of achieving
the maximum number of distribution points for their products. Single Tier Distribution = Publisher
Reseller End User
Single tier distribution was the most common model used at the onset of Internet based ESD growth.
The first ESD players in the industry considered themselves online resellers and

The Psychodynamic Approach To Psychology
The psychodynamic approach is an approach to psychology that emphasizes systematic study of the
psychological forces that underlie human behavior, feelings, and emotions and how they might relate
to early experience. Sigmund Freud the founder of the psychodynamic approach to psychology or
psychoanalysis. While he led the process to look at subconscious thoughts and desires most of his
beliefs were wrong. Some beliefs are that our behavior and feelings as adults (including psychological
problems) are rooted in our childhood experiences, Personality is made up of three parts: the id, ego

Using this approach focuses on the analysis of the subconscious. When treating Obsessive

The Lesbian Experience Of The Early And Mid Twentieth...
The Lesbian experience in the early and mid twentieth century seemed to be more obscured than the
queer male subcultures. For many lesbians of the early and mid twentieth century, to live as a queer
woman and to still maintain social respectability meant that lesbians often had to live in the closet. I
believe that that lesbian subculture was unknown and ignored because it was impossible for women to
claim their identity as a lesbian; they were frequently viewed from the outside as sick, confused, or
sinful and no one would want to be considered one. Being a lesbian woman in the streets was unsafe
for them, as they were vulnerable to be followed and harassed by men. Finally, in this era working
class women were working more and had to keep silent about their sexual identity because it could
cost losing their jobs. Although, by the 1920 s there were already a few established communities of
women who identified themselves as lesbians, in places such as Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and
New York. Few women, regardless of their sexual experiences, became part of this newly lesbian
community. For instance, Faderman mentioned, that in small towns, heterosexuals seemed oblivious
that homosexuals even existed; therefore, a woman that was not yet married was known as a spinster,
who is an unmarried woman, typically an older woman beyond the usual age for marriage (63).

Fellowship Of The Ring Book Analysis
J.R. R. Tolkien s classic novel The Fellowship of the Ring was made into a film in 2001 and directed
by Peter Jackson. This essay will be examining this specific film through a worldview perspective. For
the purposes of this essay, worldview will be defined as a perceptual framework . (The Transforming
Vision, pg. 17) Worldviews can be specific to a single person, or generalized to a group of people. The
worldview expressed in this essay through examples from The Fellowship of the Ring will come from
the theme of Creation.
This theme of Creation is correlated with the creation of the universe by God, as written in the book of
Genesis. God created the heavens and the earth before Jesus was born; before salvation ever occurred.
Similarly, The Fellowship of the Ring opens with a narrative explaining what the One Ring was and
its importance to the rest of the story. The film does not begin with Frodo saving the day, but rather the
history that laid the foundation for his journey to happen. The ring was forged in the fires of Orodruin
by the Dark Lord Sauron after he convinced the elven smiths of Eregoin to forge the Rings of Power.
Although God is nowhere near the same as Sauron, both created something specific to bring glory to
themselves: God made the world, Sauron made a ring. The difference is that God had a holy and
righteous reason for creating, while Sauron did it for evil and selfish purposes. God was able to speak
the earth into existence (Genesis 1:3), but Sauron had

determining Shaw to turn to the drama was the example of Ibsen and equally prominent was his love
of debating, in which he had shown how irresistible it was for him to counter his arguments himself if

undiminished and to the end his extraordinary vitality of mind animated all he wrote. Shaw s ideas can
never cease to form an important part of his dramatic legacy, any more than we can appreciate
Shakespeare without reference to the view of life which lies behind his work. Nevertheless, it is as
dramatist upon the stage that Shaw demands primary consideration. In his own day, Shaw s command
over audiences which by no means consisted only of those who shared his ideas was an obvious fact.
His wit was always subservient to the total working of the genius of the comic playwright. His
dramatic instinct, indeed, was altogether transcendent and so willfully fashioned its own play that the
audience almost forgot in its delight the

God In The Code Of Gilgamesh And The Hebrew Bible
God in The Hebrew Bible is quite difficult to span, often being quite incongruous in nature, as there
are ...odd contradictions and repetitions in the narrative... (The Hebrew Bible 151) especially in
relation to God. However, God is quite similar to the gods from The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Code
of Hammurabi as ...like the humans made in his image... [he is] ... willing to scheme and make deals...
(153). Specifically, in relation to The Code of Hammurabi, ...Moses goes to hear the word of God...
and the Ten Commandments are revealed to him (155), these commandments are ...rules of ethical and
religious conduct (155). The Ten Commandments, God s words, seem to be inspired, at least in part,
by Hammurabi s code, as they both seem to try to ...further the well being of mankind (The Code of
Hammurabi 1). Not only are God s words reminiscent of that of the deities in The Code of Hammurabi
and The Epic of Gilgamesh, God is also destructive in many ways, even excluding the great flood that
appears in both The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible. God creates the serpent...most cunning
of all the beasts of the field... (The Hebrew Bible 160). The Hebrew Bible is riddled with common
themes and tropes. The broadest theme presented throughout the text is the role God plays in shaping
human lives... (152) and the resultant of the actions God takes as being the lesson. However, the role
God plays is not static, often the ...relation between human behavior and divine favor... (152) shifts
and

  • 2. The Mary Celeste There are lots of mysteries in the world today. One of these was the finding of an abandoned ship, the finding of the Mary Celeste. The ship was found with no passengers and no reason to be abandoned. These events eventually inspired a young writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to write a book about the Mary Celeste which leads rumors that lead into other myths. Also Scientist have found a very likely and plausible reason for the crew to leave. The Mary Celeste was most likely abandoned by choice. The Mary Celeste was an abandoned ship found off the coast of Spain. Mary was a one hundred feet long, two hundred eighty two ton, Canadian built. Upon further inspection of the ship, it was completely empty of any humans, living or otherwise, though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On November 5, 1872, Captain Briggs sailed with a crew of eight, and with his wife and two year old daughter also aboard. They went about a mile from port because of weather. On November 7, they were sailing again, bound for Genoa, Italy. Their cargo: 1700 barrels of crude alcohol for fortifying wines. On February 15th, 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered drifting by the crew of the Dei Gratia. Though slightly damaged, her compass stand had been knocked over and the compass destroyed; the hatch covers were also off, she was basically fine. Her boat was missing, as was the captain s chronometer, navigation book and ship s register. There was a lot of water between decks, in the forward deckhouse and in the cabin. The story of The Mary Celeste tends to link with other mysteries throughout its years. The link between other very old stories mostly link back to a book written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his early writing years. The book was based on The Mary Celeste but the book was a work of fiction, not fact. Some start using other very old stories as reasons for the disappearances. The explanations of why things work or happen the way they do started leading into even pirates and creature of the deep, giant squids, and even to great lengths such as time travel. • 5. Urban Environment Is The Natural, Built And Institutional... Urban Environment is the natural, built and institutional elements that determine the physical, mental and social health and wellbeing of people who live in cities and towns. The urban environment is more than a physically defined entity. It includes the environmental and ecological context, psycho social structures and supports, and patterns of migration as well as all aspects of the geography and politics of cities. Hence, governance arrangements, cultural identities and related activities, housing and urban form, education, food security, health services, land use and tenure, transport, water, crime and exposure to pollutants and extreme weather events are all dimensions of urban life that are properly included in a focus on health in a changing urban environment. • 6. Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( Gad ) Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders today, and can often be closely linked to concurrent symptoms or disorders including physiological, behavioral, other anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. (Merino, Senra Ferreiro, 2016) (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013, p. 688). GAD most notably produces symptoms of excessive worry and anxiety related to non specific risks, which often leads to functional decline both socially and professionally (Roberge et al., 2015). GAD reveals instances of links to biological origins such as heredity and biochemistry, as well as, ties to an individual s cognitive development and socioeconomic environment (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013). GAD s potentially interwoven origin marks significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Patients often leave the opportunity for diagnosis of GAD to the primary caregiver (Roberge et al., 2015). Primary care professionals must be able to attribute physiological symptoms to psychological conditions in many of these cases to prevent missed or misdiagnosis, as well as correctly evaluate potential psychological disorders akin to GAD. The Roberge et al. (2015) research article indicates the need for increased efforts in preparing primary care professionals to properly screen and diagnose patients with GAD. • 7. Respect For Authority In The Jungle Book Respect for authority is a central theme in the Jungle Book and the guiding principle in this law reinforces that elders are to be respected and obeyed. Akela was the ultimate authority in the jungle and respect for him was of the utmost importance. In humans this has similar meaning, though not as highly looked upon as in the jungle kingdom. Some humans honor those who are wiser and older, but it is not law to do so and many do not respect elders. Jungle law is about obedience and respect, it is clearly written in the law. Human law is complicated and complex and within it are many more smaller laws that are less about the greater good and more about the individual person. Baloo teaches Mowgli the laws and the language of the jungle and respect is a large part of that. A child could apply this law by simply listening and obeying his/her parents. Just as Mowgli was taught, children must be taught how to behave. Saying please or thank you is an example of respect that can be learned early. Adults can apply this by taking care of an elderly parent who is having medical issues and needs assistance. An adult child who ensured their elderly parent has their needs met and are advocated for is an example of how this might be applies. I agree with this principle and I think it is one that used to be practiced more. In some countries, it is law that adult children take care of their parents, but that is not the case in the United States. I have heard stories of elderly people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this report is to analyze Han Holbeinfs painting, gThe Ambassadorsh. The main task of this report is to uncover the meaning of this painting, as it still remains unclear. Firstly, I will give a short introduction about the painter. Then, I will examine the characteristics of the people and the objects in the painting. Lastly, I will attempt to identify the meaning of the painting. #10086;About Han Holbein Hans Holbein the younger was a German artist born in Augsburg, Bavaria. According to the analysis of some experts, this skull added to the Ambassadors marks the artist s consistent vision of the frailty of human destiny. Others think that it might not hold any meaning to it. Holbein has used mathematics to draw the skull by a process called anamorphic projection. Maybe the skull was added just because Holbein wanted to show off his skills because intense calculations are needed to create such effects. Other than the skull on the foreground, there is another skull hidden in the band of Jean de Dinteville s cap and a crucifix hidden behind the green curtain on the far left of the painting. It still remains unclear that why these two skulls and the crucifix are placed in the painting. #10086;Conclusion Lastly, after much observation, I think this painting has close relations with Religion and Death. The Crucifix and the Skull known as symbol of death suggests how death is inevitable for human beings. It indicates the hidden yet truthful realization of human mortality. Whilst the ambassadors stand there proudly amid their tools of knowledge, death is constantly there. No matter how advance science is, death is inevitable. I am sure Holbein painted the Crucifix for a reason. Maybe he is trying to indicate that people are so overwhelm by the progress of science that they start to forget about the importance of ... Sometimes society even questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they believe exists. These conflict or struggle is addressed in Jane Campion s film, An Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of autobiographies by Australian author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the film chronicles Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Her mother frames her face in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes of mental illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She fell whilst cleaning a picture of her and her deceased husband Wilfred on their wedding day, in her living room where most of the play is set. The writer Alan Bennett , reveals allot about old aged pensioners through Doris, She portrays the typical old lady, who uses speech that we wouldn t normally use in this day and age. When this happens Doris gets very mad because she can t get up and tell them to get lost. Doris is very `judgemental` towards Zulema. Essay Genetically Modified Foods Introduction Let s face it, the term genetically modified (GM) foods is not the most appetizing word in the English language and neither is the term genetically engineered foods for that matter. These modified foods are hiding all over your supermarkets and in some instances, there is no way to tell just by looking at it. They wanted to create crops that were able to be insect resistant, disease resistant, herbicide tolerant, and climate tolerant. These altered crops also benefit consumers and markets by having an improved texture and flavor, a longer shelf life, and at times, added nutritional value (Lessick, Keithley, Swason, Lemon, 2002). The advantages of genetically modified crops range from a higher yield, due to its ability to withstand natural occurrences, to an increase in nutritional qualities. In theory, this sounds like a foolproof method because the more resistant crops are, the stronger they are to withstand any dangers it may face. In 1996, two types of genetically engineered seeds were introduced commercially, known as herbicide tolerant (HT) and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (Budinger, 2010). The herbicide tolerant seeds were engineered to survive the direct application of herbicides. Herbicides are used to kill unwanted weeds or plants that could damage the crops. Regular crops are not able to withstand the intensity of herbicides and would otherwise die from direct application. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), other type of genetically engineered seed, was created to produce toxin within the plant cells. These toxins are meant to kill certain agricultural insect pests that would destroy millions of acres of crops. By using these types of GE seeds, farmers are able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sixth Mass Extinction Research Paper The Sixth Mass Extinction? Is the earth entering its sixth mass extinction? Many scientists think that it s very clear that we are. There have currently been five mass extinctions, and they all have a huge common factor: they happened over many, many years. Over those many years extreme amounts of species died out. Right now, approximately one third of land animals are decreasing in population numbers. This is just one factor that leads scientists to believe that we are entering, or already in, another mass extinction. So, are we in another extinction? In the past 10,500 13,000 years 77.5 percent of large mammals went extinct in North and South America. Scientists also examined a group of 177 mammals and discovered that in the past 115 years they had lost over 30 percent of their land, and 40 percent of them has decreased immensely in population. • 15. Comparison Between Raphael And Leonardo Da Vinci s Last... Art is a conversation between the artist and the audience, and through which the artwork is the medium between both. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece, and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is the artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the audience is time. This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which the industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through the intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any preconstructed view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as possible, Judd focuses the attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and particularly the piece. Of course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his views, from the work. Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are affecting the piece, I now consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and ... I will eventually explore the fact that taking the buses can even been seen as a mix of all British rules and can even help to define Britishness. 1.1 Theoretical Framework At first, one can wonder how different taking the bus is in the UK compared to other countries. The data is taken in buses round Edinburgh and at bus stops in the Scottish capital. How can we qualify the British behaviours in public places? How can Britishness can be seen and analysed in everyday life? In what ways transports can be seen as a mean which condense all the unwritten rules existing in Great Britain? 3. Why is this interesting I find this topic really fascinating as this leads to condense all British rules about politeness, queuing, and general behaviour. Being arrived in September in Edinburgh, I have had some difficulties to fully adjust to the British bus system. Having taken nearly only the bus in Edinburgh as I chose to not bring my car here in Scotland, I feel my insider knowledge will be real advantage to interpret data. I m now of course fully acquainted with the bus system and I ve even seen myself helping people and giving directions many times, even to local people! I found this subject particularly interesting as it can seem as a very simple topic. Taking the bus is something we do every day and even most of the time several times a day, this is especially true for students.

The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, controller of the faith, and yet throughout history, Popes have not been all that faithful, but terribly corrupt and sinful. So if it was so sinful, then why is the Papacy still so prominent in today s society? In the world today, over 1.2 million people are Roman Catholics and supposedly because of their faith all of them respect and follow the Pope at the head of the church. Even today the Pope still holds authority, and the Papacy has morphed into a beacon of goodwill that simply shows the goodness of mankind. So why still do people disparage him as demonic or the antichrist ? To know this let us truly start at the beginning. Every story has a beginning, and this one begins in the 1st century. When Peter died, the Christians were at a loss as to what they should do; some took the route of building a hierarchical church whose head would be called the Bishop of Rome. In 467A.D. the dark ages began after the fall of Rome. Literacy, science, art, all began to suffer as people struggled to survive and the only people to preserve any of these studies was the Catholic Church. The study of remembrance is ever expanding, with historians, local researchers and organisations aiming to broaden the spectrum of research on the topic. In Joseph Heller s novel, Catch 22, in which he satirizes and criticizes the brutal yet meaningless nature of war, he depicts the immoral powers of the bureaucracy and the war machine through the character Colonel Cathcart. Heller uses Cathcart as a medium in which he personifies the bureaucracy during times of war. Due to this, the novel would have been irreparably damaged if Cathcart were to be removed as he personifies the constricting views of the war machine by symbolizing their immoral pursuit of victory and the significance behind the true evil hidden in the system of the war machine. To Cathcart, it does not matter the lives that are lost or the decisions that were made, as long as he can win he does not care. This is best supplemented by the fact that Cathcart wants to be a general (Heller 62). This pairs with his binary view of war because in the end, he is happy with anything that brings him glory and thus furthering his agenda. These analyses of Cathcart are eerily similar to that of the war machine because just like how Cathcart wanted to become a general at any cost, the United States wanted to win no matter what morals they had to throw aside. So in addition to the traditional modes of supply (across the border trade, bundled in hardware, trade through commercial presence), software products can now be converted into bits and shipped directly over the Internet. Distribution Model for ESD In some ways, electronic software distribution is the same as conventional physical delivery models. For one, the publisher, distributor and reseller all work together to provide end users with software and customer service, while protecting the publisher s intellectual property and sales. However, the roles and responsibilities of traditional channel partners are not identical in the online world. ESD and electronic commerce have opened the door for new players and nontraditional roles. There are three commonly used distribution models: Direct Distribution = Publisher End User In direct distribution, publishers benefit by controlling the process of delivery to the end user. Furthermore, publishers build direct relationships with their customer base. Drawbacks for the direct model for publishers include the time required to manage the process and the difficulty of achieving the maximum number of distribution points for their products. Single Tier Distribution = Publisher Reseller End User Single tier distribution was the most common model used at the onset of Internet based ESD growth. The first ESD players in the industry considered themselves online resellers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some beliefs are that our behavior and feelings as adults (including psychological problems) are rooted in our childhood experiences, Personality is made up of three parts: the id, ego and superego. Parts of the unconscious mind (the id and superego) are in constant conflict with the conscious part of the mind (the ego). Using this approach focuses on the analysis of the subconscious. • 36. The Lesbian Experience Of The Early And Mid Twentieth... The Lesbian experience in the early and mid twentieth century seemed to be more obscured than the queer male subcultures. For many lesbians of the early and mid twentieth century, to live as a queer woman and to still maintain social respectability meant that lesbians often had to live in the closet. I believe that that lesbian subculture was unknown and ignored because it was impossible for women to claim their identity as a lesbian; they were frequently viewed from the outside as sick, confused, or sinful and no one would want to be considered one. Being a lesbian woman in the streets was unsafe for them, as they were vulnerable to be followed and harassed by men. Finally, in this era working class women were working more and had to keep silent about their sexual identity because it could cost losing their jobs. Although, by the 1920 s there were already a few established communities of women who identified themselves as lesbians, in places such as Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and New York. Few women, regardless of their sexual experiences, became part of this newly lesbian community. For instance, Faderman mentioned, that in small towns, heterosexuals seemed oblivious that homosexuals even existed; therefore, a woman that was not yet married was known as a spinster, who is an unmarried woman, typically an older woman beyond the usual age for marriage (63). • 37. Fellowship Of The Ring Book Analysis J.R. R. Tolkien s classic novel The Fellowship of the Ring was made into a film in 2001 and directed by Peter Jackson. This essay will be examining this specific film through a worldview perspective. For the purposes of this essay, worldview will be defined as a perceptual framework . (The Transforming Vision, pg. 17) Worldviews can be specific to a single person, or generalized to a group of people. The worldview expressed in this essay through examples from The Fellowship of the Ring will come from the theme of Creation. This theme of Creation is correlated with the creation of the universe by God, as written in the book of Genesis. God created the heavens and the earth before Jesus was born; before salvation ever occurred. Similarly, The Fellowship of the Ring opens with a narrative explaining what the One Ring was and its importance to the rest of the story. The film does not begin with Frodo saving the day, but rather the history that laid the foundation for his journey to happen. The ring was forged in the fires of Orodruin by the Dark Lord Sauron after he convinced the elven smiths of Eregoin to forge the Rings of Power. Although God is nowhere near the same as Sauron, both created something specific to bring glory to themselves: God made the world, Sauron made a ring. The difference is that God had a holy and righteous reason for creating, while Sauron did it for evil and selfish purposes. God was able to speak the earth into existence (Genesis 1:3), but Sauron had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Colombia Civil War Research Paper Colombia s civil war between the government and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has spanned more than 50 years and caused the death of more than 220,000 people; the disappearance of over 25,000; and, the displacement of almost 6 million. Both government and rebel forces are guilty of significant human rights violations, including kidnapping, rape, torture, maiming, hijacking, and assassination. The result is a bitterly divided nation, tired from war, and searching for a solution. In order to peacefully and permanently end the conflict, the Colombian government and the FARC need to develop a system that comprehensively investigates the crimes committed during the war and pushes the country towards eventual reconciliation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, the FARC has become increasingly violent throughout its recent history, today it plants land mines, takes police stations, and ambushes army patrols. In order to protect themselves, landowners and drug cartels (who had become wealthy and, therefore, targets for guerrilla kidnappings) formed paramilitary death squads. The government fueled the flames, particularly under President Alvaro Uribe (2002 2010) by subtly endorsing and cooperating with these paramilitary squads, who claimed to be anti communist, in order to eliminate the guerrilla influence. To do so, paramilitary groups invaded rural, peasant villages, and massacred the inhabitants, who were accused of sympathizing with guerrillas. The result was an increasingly violent, hostile war that pitted government endorsed paramilitary organizations and drug cartels against the leftist guerrillas. The guerrillas target wealthy individuals in the city, whilst the paramilitary organizations target the poor, rural peasants, in a conflict that has overwhelmed Colombia and resulted in the shocking statistics in the introduction to this essay. Thus, historically, Colombia had been unable to peacefully resolve conflicts between guerrilla groups and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Shavian Theatre of Ideas (Modern Drama) THE SHAVIAN THEATRE OF IDEAS (MODERN DRAMA) The predominating influence in determining Shaw to turn to the drama was the example of Ibsen and equally prominent was his love of debating, in which he had shown how irresistible it was for him to counter his arguments himself if no one else would. These influential strains compelled him to choose the kind of play in which the characters undertake this dual task of proposer and opposer. In 1892, he made it into Widower s Houses, and thereafter, for nearly sixty years with unflagging energy he made drama peculiarly his own province. It was not till after Saint Joan that he became the revered elder playwright, a highly respectable figure whom, however, the dramatic critics did not cease to ... When he had thus fulfilled his great wish to express his fundamental religious faith as a Creative Evolutionist, Shaw returned in Saint Joan to a drama of his normal scope and manner. Its heroine, portrayed as a sane and shrewd country girl of extraordinary strength of min and hardihood of body...a thorough daughter of the soil in her peasantlike matter of factness and doggedness , she was however, in her creator s mind an instrument like himself of the Life force. In The Apple Cart, he turned again to the future and to the dismay of those who had regarded him as an advanced advocate of democracy showed that the highest ability could be found as well in a king as in a peasant. His brilliance was undiminished and to the end his extraordinary vitality of mind animated all he wrote. Shaw s ideas can never cease to form an important part of his dramatic legacy, any more than we can appreciate Shakespeare without reference to the view of life which lies behind his work. Nevertheless, it is as dramatist upon the stage that Shaw demands primary consideration. In his own day, Shaw s command over audiences which by no means consisted only of those who shared his ideas was an obvious fact. His wit was always subservient to the total working of the genius of the comic playwright. His dramatic instinct, indeed, was altogether transcendent and so willfully fashioned its own play that the audience almost forgot in its delight the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
