Protection of Intellectual Property Essay
Protection of Intellectual Property
Introduction
There is a lot of controversy about intellectual property and its application to software. There are
many difficult, fundamental questions that arise, such as exactly what aspects of a piece of
software should be protected under copyright or patent. [5] Despite the fact that applying existing
laws to software is not very straight forward, some sort of legal protection for intellectual property
is necessary, as it provides a significant amount of positive outcomes, which will be described
further in this paper. We will argue that the legal protection for intellectual propertyis an ethical
obligation from a rule utilitarian ethical framework because it promotes innovation and economic ...

[6]
One of the most useful aspects of the legal protection of intellectual property is the drive towards
innovation that it inspires. This is traditionally accomplished through a monetary incentive that is a
result of the exclusivity granted by a copyright or patent. The potential of being granted the
exclusive rights for the creation and distribution of a potentially new and useful idea or
technology is what drives people to create new ideas in a capitalist society. [4] By copyrighting
software, software developers are encouraged to create new and exciting software because they
have, at the very least, a monetary incentive to benefit from their work. Finally, copywriting
software allows the creator to determine how his software is to be used. For example, software
copyright has enabled licenses like the General Public License, which allows anyone to use the
software without restriction, but requires that any modification of the software be shared openly
like the original. [3] Clearly, the rights granted by legal protection of intellectual property have and
will continue to promote innovation.
The legal protection of intellectual property also promotes economic growth. The manufacturing
industry, as well as the pharmaceutical and publishing industries are among many industries in the

Essay about staffing policies
CURRENT POLICIES AND PRACTICES
In order to maintain a competitive edge and consistently reduce staffing issues, many companies
have turned to alternative methods of staffing. As companies continue to change with the times , so
do their staffing needs. Therefore, the traditional hiring of a full time employee is not the only
option. Companies have turned to more effective ways of getting the job done. They are using
outside sources to recruit employees.
United Healthcares hiring practices will be utilized in this report to identify the ways in which a
company fills its open positions. First there is the process of finding external candidates for a
position. The company uses a variety of sources to recruit these candidates: ... Show more content

RESEARCH AND CURRENT THINKING
The staffing policies, which United Healthcare uses, are like that of many other organizations. Lots
of companies today are using the same or similar sources to fill their positions. There staffing
policies are often reviewed to ensure that they are similar to that of their competitors.
Unfortunately, like many other companies, United has had to go through the process of downsizing
with in the last two years. Downsizing is basically defined as cutting staff and eliminating
positions. Many companies go through this process as a result of needing to cut expenses. This

I listen to the music, as it vibrates my whole body. Collapsing into a fitful slumber, never
thinking it d rain and thunder. Waking up to singing birds and the sweet sound of wind breezing

The Tactical Value Of Rfid
Abstract
Academic researchers have recognised a gap exists between the actual and potential values of radio
frequency identification (RFID) technology in supply chain industry. This paper provides
understanding into the tactical value of RFID by building a concept on how RFID used in supply
chain management may create and withstand a competitive advantage. This reading uses a
simulation model to determine the anticipated benefits of an integrated RFID system on a three
echelon supply chain attained through performance increases in efficiency, accuracy, visibility, and
security level. The study examines how the product value, lead time, and demand uncertainty affect
the performance of the integrated RFID supply chain in terms of cost ... Show more content on

INTRODUCTION
RFID refers to any system that can transmit identification numbers over radio. RFID system is
made up of a unique identification number, which is allocated to a specific item, an identity tag
which is attached to the item with a chip capable of storing a unique identification number,
networked RFID readers and data processing systems that are capable of collecting signals from
multiple tags at high speeds and of pre processing this data, and one or more networked databases
that store the product information RFID is a wireless technology, which allows transmission of
information without the physical connection. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two
components: tags and readers. A tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores
identification data of the item to which it is attached and an antenna to transmit this data via
radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the
data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the radio waves returned from the tag into
digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader can scan an area for any tags that
are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. The frequency on which the RFID system operates
designates the intensity of the radio waves used to transmit information and is a key factor in
determining performance levels and applications for the system. Nearly all RFID systems operate

Okonkwo as Classic Greek Hero in Things Fall Apart
A sense of foreboding envelops us from the first. We sense all will not end well for Umuofia. The
chill of fear grips us as the world of Okonkwo and his clan truly falls apart. Okonkwo will need all
of his power to fight the forces against his world, but tragically he is crippled by the most
destructive malady of all, fear of himself. Achebe employs the form of classical Greek tragedy to
tell his African tale of the rise and fall of Okonkwo.
This most fearsome warrior has proven himself from the youngest age as worthy of honor and
respect. He is driven by his father s legacy of shame and has no use for unsuccessful men. But as
he projects his image of strength, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is victorious in wrestling, providing wealth for his family, and achieving honorary titles. We
recognize his ambition, his drive to be the best his implied excellence. In these introductory
chapters, we understand the problem for the hero and his society change is coming, but the hatred
of his father and the resulting anger and fear have afflicted Okonkwo. His flaw will be his
downfall in coping with the changes to come.
Okonkwo fears for his disturbingly weak son, Nyowe, and teaches him with his stories
masculine stories of violence and bloodshed. (p. 53) But Nyowe prefers the stories of his mother
stories which teach wisdom rather than action. Nyowe knows that it pleases his father to listen
to his stories, but it is apparent that Nyowe is a thinking person. As Nyowe absorbs the shock of
Ikemefuna s death, we feel the first break in the solidarity of the clan. . Nyowe knew that
Ikemefuna had been killed, and something seemed to give way inside him, like the snapping of a
tightened bow. (p. 61) Nyowe is forming his own impressions of the rituals of his society.
We sense that the death of Ikemefuna has been a turning point in the story. The sense of
foreboding grows. We know the inevitability of disaster now; the crisis is developing. Okonkwo
has ignored the advice of Ezeudu, the wise man inserted in the tale in traditional Greek form.
Although he was warned, Okonkwo kills the boy to show his strength, his bravery,

Oppression of Women in Victorian Society Essay
How would you like it ladies if you were told that your only place in this world was in the home,
or that as you were born a woman you were already given the career of marriage? There would be
no way out of it, no hope of changing and becoming something new and exciting, you were stuck
in this position and either you made the best of it or died trying to revolt. Women held no rights.
They were forced to be robots, performing only for the men they had to seek marriage to. The
only jobs that women were allowed to hold was that of motherhood, they were not allowed to
speak unless spoken to and certainly were not expected to have personal opinion. It was not until

Women were only there for men, and the most important aspect of that was marriage. From the
time they were young they were set to be beautiful, because only the pretty girls got the richest
man. The girls were groomed and basically put on show like a common day racehorse. In
addition to being good looking, a young girl was expected to be able to sing, play an instrument
and speak French and Italian. They needed to be gentle, innocent and ignorant of their
intellectual opinions. Women in the Victorian society were meant to be weak, helpless, fragile
and unable to think for themselves. There only job was to make sure the home was comfortable
for the children and the man of the house. Her one use to the world was to produce a large
family and a neutral and calm family atmosphere. In those times the man was the moneymaker
and the woman was there to keep the house clean and tranquil. Men also held no respect for their
wives with the evidence being mistresses. Many men kept mistresses and in the end still expected
their wives to be faithful even though they were cheating on them the whole time. It was a
hypocritical aspect of the Victorian ages, men were allowed and even praised for being unfaithful
while women were ostracized for it. A woman could not hold property in her name, even if she
inherited that property from her family it was still in sole possession of her husband.

Satire Of Shake It Up
I recognize that, even coming from a father of two preteen daughters, that headline might sound
alarmist, so let me elaborate the Disney Channel and its prime competitor, Nickelodeon s Teen
Nick, are a pox upon our tween nation, corrosive forces that impart more awful messages than
any of Disney s retrograde princess films (and attendant merchandising). If the Mouse House s
recent, quickly reversed decision to beautify Brave s redheaded warrior heroine, Merida, was a sad
commentary on pop culture s continuing endorsement of ridiculous feminine ideals, that incident
remains a minor blip compared to the loathsome lessons being taught on a daily basis, in 22

Luis Barragan s Style Of Architecture
Luis Barragan is an important architect that has shared his individual influences in many of his
artworks. The biggest influence in Barragan s style of architecture is from his hometown as well as
villages in Mexico. He researched architecture by himself along with experience. In my opinion, it
is important to educate ourselves about multiple architects. So that we can be exposed to multiple
styles of architecture. The whole purpose is so that we can be influenced by professionals. Luis

in the house that are used the most are the library and the living room.
The library consist of multiple publications, photographs, and personal papers. The shelving in
the library is a good representation of horizontal lines. It stands out in the space and makes it look
as if the space is full. I think the shelving is a point on emphasis in the library, it also makes the
viewers eyes move along the space. Barragan does a good job of controlling the contrast of the
geometric shapes used throughout the spaces.
The influence on the house is mostly Mexican but there are other influences as well. One of the
Mexican influences that stands out to me is his use of color. The vibrant colors he uses in his
artwork are traditional in Mexico. The house consist of the colors orange, pink, yellow, and green,
as well as other neutral colors. The Mexican ceramics and textiles fit the theme of the entire space as

Debt Ratio And Total Debt
Debt Ratio also known as the total debt ratio which is (total assets total equity)/(total assets). The
Debt Ratio looks at all debts to all creditors. Debt to Equity Ratio is the total debt/ total equity.
This looks at the long term solvency measure to look at long term ability for the firm to pay its
bills. The debt to equity ratio is calculated by dividing total liabilities by total equity. The debt to
equity ratio is considered a balance sheetratio because all of the elements are reported on the
balance sheet. The debt to equity ratio for 2010 was 1.6455% and for 2009 1.289%. A debt to
equity ratio of 1 would mean that investors and creditors have an equal stake in the business
assets. This means that there may be a lack of performance for the reason why there ratio is close
to 1.
The total asset turnover ratio calculates net sales as a percentage of assets to show how many
sales are generated from each dollar of company assets. The total asset turnover ratio is a general
efficiency ratio that measures how efficiently a company uses all of its assets. This gives
investors and creditors an idea of how a company is managed and uses its assets to produce
products and sales. Sometimes investors also want to see how companies use more specific assets
like fixed assets and current assets.
Days sales in inventory is 365/inventory turnover. It looks at how long(days) the inventory will sit

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. The fairy tales and the bloody chamber both are a book with
individual stories in them I will be focusing on the fairytale of bluebeard and bloody chamber in
The Bloody Chamber and how they relate in their disturbingness and how Lolita is very
disturbing too but in a different way. Although these 3 books are a little different they all gave
me the same unsettled feeling when reading them. In The Classic Fairy Tales there are a couple
versions of Bluebeard , I am going to focus on the Perrault version. In this fairytale there is a man
who lives in a giant house and has a wife, after a while of being married he needs to travel for
business and he tells his wife to explore the house and gives her a set of keys to explore the
house but tells her that there is a small door at the end of a hall way that she cannot open, and if

In Prime Time Ideology Todd Gitlin Is attempting to demonstrate how the ruling class ideology is
transmitted through various features of American television. Giltin follows Gramsci and his
concept of hegemony as soft power that coerces the working class into obedience without any use
of physical power. At the beginning of Prime Time Ideology Gitlin is relating to Theodor Adorno

Character Analysis Of The Last Airbender
The only thing I can really say about The Last Airbender is this: Epic Fail. Paramount Pictures
gave M. Night Shyamalan $150 million dollars to adapt the popular Nickolodeon cartoon for the
big screen. What they got is an absolute mess of a movie, complete with poor acting, the most
hackneyed script ever, and a last minute conversion to 3 D that only serves to destroys what was
possibly some lush cinematography. Airbender makes a determined effort. It is nigh impossible
to find anything right with Airbender. The story is ridiculously complex. In a world where
people can manipulate (bend) the four elements of air, earth, fire and water, depending on their
tribal affiliation, there exists a being (the Avatar) who can manipulate all four. This person is
also the sole being capable of communing the the spirit world which serves to keep things in
balance. This being went missing 100 years ago, only to be found in a giant ice sphere by two
children of the water tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar has been gone, the Fire tribe has begun
conquering the others, though we re never really told why. The disgraced Prince Zuko (Dev Patel)
of the Fire tribe wants to the Avatar so he can return to his family. The Water children need to save
the Avatar to ensure the Fire people don t win. For this point on it becomes to silly to try and

This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life.

songs that are forever new. The human soul is not only God s temple, it is also Krishna s flute.
Life s vicissitudes are but new melodies played by the Lord. The poet, therefore, concludes

In the start of the play, Othello, Iago is professing his hatred for Othello, for giving the lieutenant
position to Cassio over himself. Shakespeare uses this hatred to show that Cassio is clearly
favored in the army, because he is very inexperienced for the promotion, and is probably a sweet
talker that others usually enjoy their presence. Cassio and Iagoare foil characters to each other; a
foil is a character is one that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another

Basically saying her beauty is to perfect to describe and grasp. He praises her instead of lusting

going to play the puppeteer and manipulate this quality Cassio has to get revenge on Othello for not

introduces Cassio as an honest and respectful man in order to juxtapose the villainous and revenge
seeking Iago through foil characters. William Shakespeare is trying to foreshadow the fall of

Language, Not Politics Or History Essay
Brian Friel correctly claims that Translations is a play that emphasizes language, not politics or
history. This story takes place in a rural Gaelic speaking town in Ireland and focuses on the
interactions between Irish and English folk. These conversations end up to be a series of
mistranslations . Throughout the plot of this play, Friel proves that a person s identity comes from
language alone. Understanding the politics and history of a play merely explains the factual
framework of the story, but does not facilitate the reader to make inferences about the underlying
meaning and purpose of the play like language does.
The setting lends an important historical context to the play, but language tied with culture helps to
unravel the meaning behind the play. This play is set in 1833, a time when, an Irish town,

A Recommendation For Worldwide Governance
Recommendation for Worldwide Governance
Due to the global implications of some decisions made by Volkswagen, governing boards should
strengthen their impact on worldwide automakers by working in conjunction with other countries
in enforcing needed global regulations. If the impact of a product is global, then governance
leadership of that product should also be at a global scale. Collaboration may never be achieved
globally, but major consuming countries working in conjunction to enforce needed regulations, can
make the same impact. In the case of the VW emission scandal, several countries are assisting in

If standards are uniform, it would allow for concentrated research and development of vehicles that
would benefit the world. Understanding that not all nations will participate, the most influential and
largest consuming nations will be empowered by the benefit of consolidated and uniform rules.
Imposing Worldwide Environmental Penalties
If emission standards and other vehicle operating regulations are globalized, then the penalties
implied on car makers should also be globalized. The impact would be immediately greater,
making compliance so much more important. Violations, such as the emission deception, do
impact the entire world, therefore, penalties should also be at a higher unified level to assist with
resolution and re standardization when needed. A global voice will be much more powerful,
moreover, the additional worldwide penalties would not eliminate or reduce each individual
countries penalties. Penalties would have to be closely monitored so as not to cripple a company
overall.
Recommendations for Consumer Protection
Governing boards must empower consumers with needed tools to make safer business decisions. If
tools are given to the consumer to protect their purchases from car makers, consumers would more
comfortably recover from product issues and continue purchasing. For some consumers, the impact
of the VW deception will cause loss of funds,

Alice Walker and the Color Purple
Alice Walker is an African American woman s activist/feminist and author who was born in the
early 1940s, in Eatonton, Georgia. Walker lived in the the rural south at a time when there were
heavy poverty and racial violence amongst most African Americans. The circumstances that
Walker faced ended up contributing to the person that she is today and it is reflected in many of
her novels. Even throughout the trials and tribulations that Walker endured, she was still able to
succeed in life. As a young child, Walker had an accident with a BB gun and ended up going
blind in one eye. Because of this injury, this turned Walker into a very timid and shy child, Walker
eventually graduated and left home to go to college and later got involved in the civil rights
movement in Mississippi. Many years later in Walkers young adult life, she endured major
depression from having to deal with the termination of her pregnancy. In the 1960s, she returned to
Mississippi, where she met a Jewish civil rights law student named Mel Leventhal, where they
eventually married and moved to Mississippi. Alice eventually got pregnant, but unfortunately
miscarried the baby. Over the years, she channeled many of the experiences that she faced into
fictional stories about the lives of blacks in America, especially woman in the South. The

The Use of Chance in Chronicle of a Death Foretold versus Oedipus the King Chance can serve
many different purposes in works of literature. Whether it is to display a certain idea or to simply
add to the author s writing style, chance can have a very significant effect on a reader or an
audience. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia

plot and eventually lead to the main characters downfall. Chance, however, also has different
purposes in the works, as Marquez uses it as an element of his magical realist style of writing, while

way to develop the storyline. In the first chapter, the reader learns who killed Santiago. While the
plot is already shown to reader, the inclusion of the events with Placida Linero and Cristo Bedoya
helps to develop the plot, as the reader learns more about the odd circumstances that worked

purpose that chance serves within both works differs as well. In Oedipus the King, Sophocles uses
chance events to portray the idea of fate and that attempts to go

Oni is feeling that her faith and trust in their marriage has been broken because of Henry s
activities because of her prior experience with her ex husband cheating. Furthermore, the connection
of Henry feeling sexual starved is understandable considering his needs are not being met. Clinical
TheoryThe clinical theory chosen for this clinical evaluation is Solution Focused Based Theory

Gender Inequality In Latin American Culture
Gender Inequality in Latin American Culture
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold details how Latin American culture lead
to the murder of the character Santiago Nasar caused by a series of events. Marquez s depiction of
the patriarchal society in the novel reveals the role of men and women. In particular, family, men
and women expectations, honor, and sex portrayed in the novel are further utilized to reveal the
inequalities between both groups.
Consequently, Marquez recounts the traditional family in Columbian culture to unveil gender
expectations. At the beginning of the novel, for instance, Santiago Nasar s family viewed Santiago
as a child of convenience who lived without a single moment of happiness . The pessimistic tone
implied ensures that during this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along the novel, the narrator reveals moments where honor must be maintained. Marquez mentions
that Pura Vicario and her husband accompanied [Angela] to watch over her honor when it was less
than two months before her marriage. Connotatively, Angela s honor had to be protected before
her marriage communicating that her honor was actually her virginity rather to Beyardo, his
honor involves that virginity of the women in his family. Violence due to the loss of Angela s
virginity is evident when Beyardo returns her and her mother beats her up for disgracing her
family . Imagery incorporated describes how infuriated her mother really was because of the
consequences to come involving the critics in town. Moreover, the loss of Angela s virginity is
what ultimately leads her twin brother to seek revenge in order to restore her honor. The narrator
clarifies this by revealing that the twins were comforted by the honor of having done their duty .
This helps clarify that the twins were relieved and viewed the action as a duty rather than a murder,
depicting the importance of killing

Essay On Bureaucrats
Federal bureaucrats can slow down or stall a president s agenda by claiming lack of knowledge or
by using interests groups. Bureau chiefs can claim they do not have enough information to make a
decision, especially a decision involving other bureaus. By doing this, they are claiming then need
more time to investigate, which slows the president s policies. By using interest groups, bureaucrats
can go through Congress. This interest groups plead to their Senators and House reps, which takes
longer to have the president s policies in place by law. They can also sabotage a president s agenda
by leaking unauthorized information. This reduces the president s credibility and forces people to
think about the effect of the new information on the policies. Bureaucrats would do these things,
because they support their burea more than the president. These bureaucrats sincerely believe in
their bureau s purpose and feel they must protect its jurisdiction, programs, and budget at all costs
(Heclo 275). Presidents and administrations chance, but the bureaus stay and bureaucrats try to
stand in its best standings. The president can counter the attempts to slow down, stall, or sabotage
his administration by building strong outside contacts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare and Contrast the Work of Harry Harlow and Mary...
Compare and Contrast the work of Harry Harlow and Mary Ainsworth on understanding attachment
Attachment is a lasting secure and positive feeling that bonds one person to another, one of the
strongest forms of attachment is thought to develop between a mother and child. Many
psychologist, sociologist, physicians and psychoanalysts have sought to explore the fundamental
nature of attachment and how it had evolved. Within this essay I shall examine The origins of
attachment Psychologist who seek to measure it The methodology used how it has consequently
helped us understand attachment So how does attachment develop between a mother and child?

These finding were revolutionary at the time and went against most child rearing attitudes and
practices. Nevertheless, Ainsworth initially was far from convinced about the validity of firstly
Bowlby s ethological account of attachment, secondly how Harlow s findings can be related to
humans. However after conducting her own observational study of mother infant attachment on
Ugandan families (1953) the relevance of Bowlby s work became apparent. Just like in one of
Harlow s variations experiment Ainsworth found that the Ugandan mothers acted like a safe base to
their babies, as did the terry cloth mothers (Custance 2010), consequently the more maternal
sensitive the mothers were to their babies signals the more confidant and explorative the children
became. Somewhat of a paradox to the then common pedagogic advice of limiting or avoiding
bodily contact in attempt to avoid spooling children, as advocated by Freud and J. B.Watson and
the insistence of the then dominant behaviourist school of psychology that emotions were
negligible. Ainsworth concluded from her observations that qualitatively distinct patterns of
attachment evolve between infants and their mothers in the opening years of life. Although a
majority of these patterns are marked by comfort and security, some are tense or conflicted, and

I Am A Sign Of Bipolar Disorder
A shift in mood can be a detrimental occurrence for someone. Sometimes they don t even
understand why or how to control it. Mood swings, shifting from a manic state to a depressive
state, is considered to be a sign of Bipolar Disorder 1. Bipolar disorder 1 is the tendency of manic
episodes to alternate with major depressive episodes in an unending roller coaster ride from
peaks of elation to the depths of despair (Barlow; Durand, 2015). It affects people s moods,
energy and ability to think clearly, negatively hindering that persons relationship with their
peers, ability to work, get an education, and function normally with a balanced mood ( Bipolar
Disorder ,n.d). Bradley Cooper plays a middle aged man, Patrick Solitano, who suffers from
Bipolar Disorder in the movieSilver Linings Playbook. Pat went through many obstacles after a
trigger set him off into a rage that landed him at a mental institution for eight months. He spent
his life thinking that he just has a short fuse like his father, but later into his adulthood he was
diagnosed as an undiagnosed Bipolar until later events recognized his disorder as Bipolar
Disorder 1. Pat s life events that occur throughout the movie highlight how severe and dramatizing
the disorder can be when unrecognized. In the film, Pats ending may have been a happy one, but
for most Bipolar Disorder patients, it is a stressful long term illness that is extremely difficult to
correct. Part A: Bipolar Disorder 1 symptoms can be recognized

Whs Shortcomings That Our Company Is Facing
The purpose of this report is to discuss the WHS shortcomings that our company is facing. As an
organization, we have a range of duties, responsibilities and obligations, from the PCBU,
management, HSR personnel, officers and workers. Everyone has a responsibility and duty to
themselves and each other. As you are aware, a supervisor from our company attempted to hold a
meetingto discuss a specific hazard and he came across multiple barriers that hindered him in his
goal. This report will identify our legislative requirements for consultation and participation,
processes that we could implement internally and externally, and my input if I am given the
authority and resources by management.
There are several legislative requirements for consultation and participation. According to the
WHS Act 2012 Section 47 (1), The person conducting a business or undertaking must, so far as is
reasonably practicable, consult, in accordance with this Division and the regulations, with workers
who carry out work for the business or undertaking who are, or are likely to be, directly affected by
a matter relating to work health or safety. This dutyplaced on the PCBU is based on the fact that
worker input and participation in WHS policies improves outcomes for workers and reduces work
related injuries. Section 49 (a) of the WHS Act identifies A person conducting a business or

(2000); Holdsworth, Raymond et al. (2004), it was stated that having some form of knowledge of
healthy eating increases the chances of behaviours and attitudes changing. As experts such as
doctors, nutritionists, fitness gurus etc. have a better understanding of healthy eating providing a
two sided communicator expertise message. Than non expert communicators as they provide
information based on opinion.
Many individuals are more reluctant adhere to the messages provided by these experts. Therefore,
their attitude towards healthy eating is most likely to change regardless of their status in society.
The messages conveyed can impact on an individual through facts. Tesser, Martin and Mendolia
(1995) created a study thinking about a person who did something nice led that person to be
evaluated more favourably than when distracted from thinking, whereas thinking about a person
who was insulting led to more negative evaluations then when distracted. This is believed to change
the attitude of an individual through bias thinking. Which is a factor that influences the change in
attitude of individuals.

British Military Force Analysis
The sheer supremacy of the British military force was more than capable of expeditiously
suppressing an amateur rebellion and successfully restoring the insurgent colonies to their innate
allegiance. Until Washington finally adopted a defensive strategy at the fortress of Harlem Heights,
the British undoubtedly had a significant military leverage over the Americans; therefore, if Lord
Germain s [Germain] strategy were properly employed, the British should have won. Germain
informed General William Howe[Howe], and subsequently General Henry Clinton [Clinton], of his
plan in which a decisive blow had to be delivered before any reconciliation so that the
overwhelming force would shock the rebels into recognizing the futility of their cause. ... Show

The only reason the Continental Army was spared was because of Howe s secret hopes of
negotiating a peaceful end to the rebellion. He was also so sure of the fact that British victory
was inevitable, which in turn meant that a more limited strategy was wholly adequate. By
delaying the process of suppression, the Continental Army gradually gained experience and
courage. Washington also learned from his mistakes in the Battle of New York and ignored his
aggressive military instincts; he eventually put aside his honor driven character to adopt a new
attitude towards his definition of a victory. Though it ran counter to all his instincts, he now
realized that his goal was not to win the war but rather not to lose it, and thus he embraced a
defensive strategy in the fortress of Harlem Heights. However, before this pivotal moment in
history, Howe could have and probably should have listened to Clinton in targeting the Continental
Army at King s Bridge. However, Howe wanted his American campaign to be a more measured
affair, meaning he could have put an early end to the Continental Army, but chose not to in order to
remain civilized and reduce

Also, tertiary education has quite low worldwide education participation rates; generally in
developing countries the amount of people in tertiary is not high. Social class has a large amount to
do with this. Poverty is one of the main factors preventing people form attending university.
Although gender intersects with participation in education around the globe, the WDR 2012 Team
found that, In most countries with moderate or high total inequality in educational outcomes, less
than one fifth of inequality stems from gender . Non attendance instead, has to do more primarily
with rural residence or poverty. Gender however, does relate to reasons for participation in
education and also non attendance. Most countries have achieved equal male and female
involvement in primary education. At the same time, some countries lag behind, namely many
African countries such as Niger, Chad, Benin and Togo. (Source: WDR 2012 Team) There is also,
based on World Development Indicators, a greater amount of male participation in both primary
and secondary school, although, females dominate third level tertiary education. Between 1970 and
2008, the number of female tertiary students in the world increased from 10.8 million to 80.9

The Greatest Mayan Achievement
The greatest Mayan achievement of the Maya was probably how they lived for at least a few
years. I think this because they believed in many things like gods that were so bloodthirsty that
they had to do very violent ceremonies, which are when they sacrificed others to give human
blood to the gods to get what they want. This has hurt their population. Why this might be the
greatest Mayan achievement is because they lived long enough to at least be in their 10 s 40 s. If
there was a religion that did these sacrifices then they wouldn t be able to live that long because
their population would be highly reduced. Also, doing these sacrifices made others want to leave
this village even more. This achievement could be the greatest because

So basically everything is left up to the individual. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try
understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the
afterlife. I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that
I do that is immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe
that when I meet my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the
keeper of my soul, will be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this
force that pantheists speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his

I found the New Age Movement to be a very interesting worldview. At times it had me scratching

III.Studies Three studies found evidence supporting a link between diabetes risk and elevated
levels of air pollution (Chen Burnett et al., 2013; Pearson Bachireddy et al., 2010; Xu Liu et al.,
2011). Xu Liu et al. utilized an experimental design in which they studied the effect of elevated
particulate matter (PM2.5) in mice and their corresponding blood glucose and insulin measures.
Pearson Bachireddy et al. and Chen Burnett et al. both conducted epidemiological studies in which
they looked at diabetes prevalence in the United States and Canada, respectively, and compared the
data against air particulate matter levels.
In the study conducted by Xu Liu et al., four week old, male mice were randomly assigned into one
of two groups: a control group and an experimental group. Both groups were fed identical diets and

The Meaning Of Power And Religion In The Epic Of Sundiata
In Medieval West Africa, nations of political power and religion overlapped. In the Epic of
Sundiata we see this intersection in the role of prophecy. This essay will show that prophets
regularly and ploy supernatural means to reinforce the political status of future King, Sundiata.
While using exerts from the Epic, this essay will analyze the text to show the underlying meaning
of powerand religion in Medieval West Africa In the beginning of the Epic, the griot lays out the
story by setting up the unforeseen future. The griot states, God has his mysteries which none can
fathom. You, perhaps, will be a king. You can do nothing about it. You, on the other hand, will be
unlucky, but you can do nothing about that either. Each man finds his way already marked out for
him and he can change nothing of it. The griot, as a repository for history and hence a spokesman
for the largeness of Time, often reminds his listener of how small mankind can be in the face of
such greatness. The tone here is a bit harsh as the griot points to his audience and tells them they
know nothing of what is meant for them. But this is the griot s purpose: to remind us that we are
subservient to greater forces than any man could hope to understand or master. No matter what
anyone tried to do to hinder Sundiata s greatness, they could not stop it. They just enabled what
they did not want to happen. This is what the griot is trying to tell them. He is telling them that no

Virtual Private Networks Essay
Virtual Private Networks
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are an easy and cost effective way to connect two or more
networks over the Internet. This is achieved by using encrypted tunnels for security and efficiency.
VPNs use encapsulated and encrypted IP packets and transport them across leased Local Area
Network (LAN) lines.
The benefits of using VPNs are reduced cost overhead, reduced management overhead, and added
security (Microsoft Press, 2000). Least network lines are expensive and VPNs reduce then need for
extra data connections. This in turn also aids in reducing the amount of overhead associated with
managing a network. The added security benefits for a network include encrypted transmission of
network data and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cryptographic authentication is used for remote user authentication. Windows and Unix platforms
can both provide for this function. While payload encryption is used for encrypting the data that is
sent within the packet. An example of data payload encryption is Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL
can encrypt data without cryptographic authentication of the remote user.
VPN cryptographic authentication is used to securely validate the identity of a remote user and
determine the level of access and security appropriate for them. It may also be used to
authenticate for the exchange of secret or public payload encryption keys. Shared secret or Private
encryption keys rely on both parties knowing the keys value. Challenge response can be used to
ensure that the hashes of the Private key and not the key itself are transmitted. In addition, one time
password variations can be employed to ensure that the Private key is changed every time that they
are used.
Before data is encapsulated and sent over the Internet, it is encrypted. This is called data payload
encryption. Data payload encryption is used to encode all the contents of an IP packet, both data
and header, to hide any information about the nature of the network and data being transmitted.
This will prevent any snoopers from gathering information about the network that is sending the
packet. Data

Durkheim s Theories Of A Capitalist Society
Many sociological theorists who were relevant over a century ago are also still applicable to
today s society. Whilst parts of the theory and the context of the theories may have quite dated,
some parts do still reign true. Some theories however, like Marx s ideas of a capitalist society,
have become more influential in today s economic climate. Perspectives like Durkheim s theories
of suicide, Marx s theories on Capitalismand changes to economic status, Weber s input on
Capitalism and his influential work on Religion. The ideas this essay will be focusing upon are the
iconic theories, that the previously mentioned sociologists are known for and showing how these
theories have progressed through the time. Emile Durkheim is a prominent figure in Sociology, and
is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the subject, alongside Marx and Weber. This
is due to his work on studying Suicide in his book Suicide: A Study in Sociology , this work was
monumental in the field of Sociology as Durkheim was the first sociologist to suggest that society
can affect what is probably the most private action a person can perform; ending their life.
In his study he found that certain social groups where more likely to commit suicide than others;
for example, Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than Catholics; as the Catholic
Religion integrated its members more strongly into a religious community (Haralambos and
Horlborn, 2000: 975). Durkheim based this upon the

Federal Regulation of Organic Farming
Is there a federal standard for what organic means when it comes to farm fresh milk?
Ruva (Ruvarashe) Munyariwa
Introduction to political Science, POS1001 Professor Schuman
January 23, 2011
With the organic industry booming and up until recently showing an annual growth rate of 20% it
has been necessary for the federal government to step in and regulate the previously self regulated
industry. Initially, regulation of this industry was implemented by private nonprofit organizations
and some state governments as a way to put an end to consumer fraud and to ensure the integrity of
organic food. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preventive medical care in the form of vaccines, vitamins, minerals and any approved supplements
is strongly relied on to keep the animals as healthy as possible. The process used to bottle and
pasteurize the milk produced from these cows must also be certified and the organic milk has to be
kept separate from nonorganic milk to uphold its integrity as an organic commodity. Other
ingredients used in this process all have to be organic unless there is no organic equivalent. Organic
chemicals like volatile synthetic solvents and other synthetic processing aids are also prohibited
during the bottling process further upholding the integrity of the milk.
Critics of the certification system argue that it s easy to flout the rules either blatantly or by
creatively interpreting the rules and the regulations. An example of this occurred in 2004 when
Bayliss ranch, a food ingredient producer, based in California tried to use the fact that because the
tap water that they were using in their products had been certified organic, they could legally use
the label organic on their products. These critics also argue that the certification process provides a
podium by which special interest groups and lobbyists can press for amendments and exceptions to
established rules and regulations favorable to large scale operators meaning that conventionally

  • 2. Protection of Intellectual Property Essay Protection of Intellectual Property Introduction There is a lot of controversy about intellectual property and its application to software. There are many difficult, fundamental questions that arise, such as exactly what aspects of a piece of software should be protected under copyright or patent. [5] Despite the fact that applying existing laws to software is not very straight forward, some sort of legal protection for intellectual property is necessary, as it provides a significant amount of positive outcomes, which will be described further in this paper. We will argue that the legal protection for intellectual propertyis an ethical obligation from a rule utilitarian ethical framework because it promotes innovation and economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [6] One of the most useful aspects of the legal protection of intellectual property is the drive towards innovation that it inspires. This is traditionally accomplished through a monetary incentive that is a result of the exclusivity granted by a copyright or patent. The potential of being granted the exclusive rights for the creation and distribution of a potentially new and useful idea or technology is what drives people to create new ideas in a capitalist society. [4] By copyrighting software, software developers are encouraged to create new and exciting software because they have, at the very least, a monetary incentive to benefit from their work. Finally, copywriting software allows the creator to determine how his software is to be used. For example, software copyright has enabled licenses like the General Public License, which allows anyone to use the software without restriction, but requires that any modification of the software be shared openly like the original. [3] Clearly, the rights granted by legal protection of intellectual property have and will continue to promote innovation. The legal protection of intellectual property also promotes economic growth. The Tactical Value Of Rfid Abstract Academic researchers have recognised a gap exists between the actual and potential values of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in supply chain industry. This paper provides understanding into the tactical value of RFID by building a concept on how RFID used in supply chain management may create and withstand a competitive advantage. This reading uses a simulation model to determine the anticipated benefits of an integrated RFID system on a three echelon supply chain attained through performance increases in efficiency, accuracy, visibility, and security level. INTRODUCTION RFID refers to any system that can transmit identification numbers over radio. RFID system is made up of a unique identification number, which is allocated to a specific item, an identity tag which is attached to the item with a chip capable of storing a unique identification number, networked RFID readers and data processing systems that are capable of collecting signals from multiple tags at high speeds and of pre processing this data, and one or more networked databases that store the product information RFID is a wireless technology, which allows transmission of information without the physical connection. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two components: tags and readers. A tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores identification data of the item to which it is attached and an antenna to transmit this data via radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the radio waves returned from the tag into digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader can scan an area for any tags that are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. The frequency on which the RFID system operates designates the intensity of the radio waves used to transmit information and is a key factor in determining performance levels and applications for the system. These finding were revolutionary at the time and went against most child rearing attitudes and practices. Nevertheless, Ainsworth initially was far from convinced about the validity of firstly Bowlby s ethological account of attachment, secondly how Harlow s findings can be related to humans. However after conducting her own observational study of mother infant attachment on Ugandan families (1953) the relevance of Bowlby s work became apparent. Just like in one of Harlow s variations experiment Ainsworth found that the Ugandan mothers acted like a safe base to their babies, as did the terry cloth mothers (Custance 2010), consequently the more maternal sensitive the mothers were to their babies signals the more confidant and explorative the children became. Somewhat of a paradox to the then common pedagogic advice of limiting or avoiding bodily contact in attempt to avoid spooling children, as advocated by Freud and J. B.Watson and the insistence of the then dominant behaviourist school of psychology that emotions were negligible. Ainsworth concluded from her observations that qualitatively distinct patterns of attachment evolve between infants and their mothers in the opening years of life. Until Washington finally adopted a defensive strategy at the fortress of Harlem Heights, the British undoubtedly had a significant military leverage over the Americans; therefore, if Lord Germain s [Germain] strategy were properly employed, the British should have won.
