The Polish documentary Desire for Beauty follows the stories of four people, Monika, Kuba, Kasia,
and Kumila, who are unhappy with their appearance and feel the only way they can be happy is to
undergo reconstructive surgery to correct their perceived physical flaws. Kuba, Kasia, and Kumila
undergo surgery while Monika decides not to refrain from it. Each person is interviewed before their
surgery, and then again post surgery to reveal whether their lives and happiness have made a change
for the better.
As I began to watch the documentary, I was at first a little puzzled why the four people felt that

A Note On Different Relation Of Function
Recursions with Folds
Apart from using the recursion directly, fold is available to occur recursion scheme, which applies a
function to data structure/Functor to manipulate its contents. Figure 1
The above illustrates the summary of different relation of function. Below we will focus on further
explaining of how to isolate the recursions from the code in order to gain the benefit of convenience,
which is easier to control, repair and further develop the code.
In (inception) Fix (fixpoint)
The whole idea if In and Fix is all about where the recursion of code performs in the data type, which
isolate the recursion to a single spot, usually represented by parameter k.
First of all, we would have a simple code with direct recursions and ... Show more content on

The idea of writing the value of type fix List a is shown as below:
As compared with List a and List a. we can make a assumption of:
List a ≅ List a k ≅ (Fix (List a))
By applying the assumption into Empty and Cons,
Empty :: List a k
Empty :: List a (Fix(List a))
Cons :: a k List a k
By substituting an integer, 20, into a and Empty into k,
Cons 20 Empty :: List Int (List a k)
Instead of this presentation, we want to make this in one level deeper via In,
Cons 20 9In Empty ) :: List Int (Fix (List a))
In Cons 20 (In Empty ) :: Fix (List a)
Thus, applying this idea into the case, we can conclude that In is a function to construct a new value of
type Fix f giving the functor of f.
Data Fix f = In(f (Fix f)) 1
In :: f(Fix f) Fix f Here is another example for using Fix, In to isolate the recursion: data Fix f = In (f
(Fix f))
data List a k = Empty | Cons a k toList :: [a] Fix (List a) toList [] = In (Empty ) toList (x:xs) = In
(Cons x (toList xs))
Applying 1 to this, data Fix List [a] = In ((List a)k) where k is the parameter for recursion size. toList
= foldr f k where Foldr:
Foldr :; (a b b) b [a] b
In order to abstract from f(Fix) to Fix f, k :: Fix (List a) k = In (Empty )
f :: a Fix (List a) Fix (List a) f x ys =

Constitutions and Bylaws state the actors and way to alter in the structure itself. The total

Minutia points represent positions where friction ridges end abruptly or where a ridge branches into
two or many more ridges. A typical good quality fingerprint template contains 20 70 minutiae points;
the actual number depends on the size of the finger sensor surface and how the user places his or her
finger on the sensor. The system stores the minutiae information position and direction along with the
user s demographic information as a template in the enrollment database. During the identification
phase, the user puts the finger on the same sensor, generating a new fingerprint image or template
called query print. Minutiae points are carried out from the query print, and the matcher module
compares the set of query minutia with the stored minutia templates or image in the enrollment
database to find the number of similar minutia points. Because of variations present in finger
placement and pressure applied to the sensor, the minutia points take out from the template and query
fingerprints must be lined up, or submitted before matching. After line up the fingerprints, the matcher

Thomas Jefferson s Monticello
Monticello was the primary plantation of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States,
who began designing and building Monticello at age 26 after inheriting land from his father. Located
just outside Charlottesville, Virginia, in the Piedmont region, the plantation was originally 5,000 acres,
with Jefferson using slaves for extensive cultivation of tobacco and mixed crops, later shifting from
tobacco cultivation to a wheat in response to changing markets. Jefferson designed the main house at
the plantation, also called Monticello, initially using neoclassical design principles described by
Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, subsequently reworking the design through much of his
presidency to include design elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his several years in Europe, he had an opportunity to see some of the classical buildings with
which he had become acquainted from his reading, as well as to discover the modern trends in French
architecture that were then fashionable in Paris. His decision to remodel his own home may date from
this period. In 1794, following his service as the first U.S. Secretary of State (1790 93), Jefferson
began rebuilding his house based on the ideas he had acquired in Europe. The remodeling continued
throughout most of his presidency (1801 09). Although generally completed by 1809, Jefferson
continued work on the present structure until his death in 1826. Jefferson added a center hallway and a
parallel set of rooms to the structure, more than doubling its area. He removed the second full height
story from the original house and replaced it with a mezzanine bedroom floor. The interior is centered
on two large rooms, which served as an entrance hall museum, where Jefferson displayed his scientific
interests, and a music sitting room. The most dramatic element of the new design was an octagonal
dome, which he placed above the west front of the building in

The Controversial Issue Of Abortions
As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their
hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places that
are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just looking
at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many controversial
issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper. When the word Abortion is heard, a
heated argument often arises between couples, families, governments, and most commonly throughout
women s minds around the world. Over the past hundred years, the topic of abortions has been an
ongoing issue. Many people agree to this practice, while others see it as completely absurd. In the
past, present and most likely into the future, women have very little say in deciding whether to have
an abortion or to have a baby. For many women, rape is a major issue. Without a choice, in most
commonly a life or death situation, women are raped and impregnated by the man who raped them. In
cases like this, the majority of women are not financially stable to have a child, nor are they physically
or mentally prepared for the life they have ahead. This is when the discussion of abortion comes into
place and the controversial argument begins. In Canada in 1892, parliament passed a criminal code
that stated the prohibition of abortions as well as the sale, distribution and

Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson

TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature
Ellen Bayer
Conversation Essay
As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are
looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking
at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World
written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an
earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps
alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I
gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by
which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote,
we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but
rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first
part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed
both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always
withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how
much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed

Ellis Island and Angel Island Immigration Essay
Ellis Island is a small island located in the Upper New York Bay. Angel Island is the largest island in
the San Francisco Bay in the state of California. Ellis Island served as a national immigration station
from 1892 1924. Angel Island was an immigration station from 1910 1940. Both Islands helped
America grow by opening their doors to the world. Immigrants who came to America now had a
chance to achieve their own dreams and to start new lives. The country was new, the government was
rising up and it gave immigrants an opportunity to succeed. Life was still going to be hard but people

In the book Life on Ellis Island, Rebman says, Most immigrants could afford to purchase only
steerage, or third class, tickets. The steerage area comprised the decks below sea level where the
steering mechanisms were located (Rebman, 18). It was not cheap to come to America. Some of
immigrants had to sacrifice a lot to make the trip but they took the risk that life would be better in
America. Ellis Island and Angel Island presented an opportunity for success. People that wouldn t
normally have a chance to succeed got to come to America and start a new life. Carl L Bankston talks
about the travel to Ellis Island, Doctors took one glance while immigrants go to the second floor. This
was known as the Six Second exam (Bankston, Carl L, 179). Rebman also talks about Coded Chalk
Marks, she says, A chalk mark drawn on the shoulder of an immigrant s jacket or on his lapel
indicated a wide variety of abnormalities. This system of coded chalk marks quickly identified
immigrants needing further examination. Illness and medical problems were the most frequent causes
of deportation. More than a dozen letters were used to indicate possible problems; for example, B:
back, CT: trachoma, E: eyes, H: heart, L: lameness, Pg: pregnancy, Sc: scalp, X: suspected mental
illness (a circled X meant definite signs of mental disease had been observed) (Rebman, 24). There

Habeas Corpus Analysis
In the U.S. system, federal courts use the summons of habeas corpus to determine if a state s
imprisonment of a detainee is lawful. With regards to the historical evolution of habeas corpus up to
the current war on terror, the controversy between who has the right to habeas corpus and if the
government has the right to hold an enemy combatant, without charging them with a specific crime,
has progressed over the years. This essay will analyze the relevance of habeas corpus and evaluate
different perspectives in regards to topics relating to habeas corpus. The Constitution of the United
States was written in 1787 and exclusively signified the writ of habeas corpus as a fundamental legal
underpinning of the new nation (Osborne, 2008 p.1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supreme Court ruled in Rasul v. Bush that U.S. courts have jurisdiction to hear challenges on behalf
of persons detained at the U.S. Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in connection with the war
against terrorism. The court overturned a ruling that no U.S. court has jurisdiction to hear petitions for
habeas corpus on behalf of the detainees because they are aliens detained abroad, but left questions
involving prisoners and status unanswered. The 9/11 Commission recommended a common coalition
approach to such detention. The senate voted to deny detainees access to federal courts to file habeas
petitions, but to allow limited appeals. (Elsea, 2005 p. 1)
Many see habeas corpus as a must, that all individuals guilty or not have the right to have their day in
court. Others believe that if someone has participated in a horrific crime, such as a suicide bomber,
killing hundreds of people, they should be denied of any kind of rights, especially the right to have
their day in front of a jury. The war on terror started with terrorist committing crimes against our
entire country, it just doesn t seem fit to allow them access to our Supreme Court and be heard by a
jury that is most likely going to find them guilty

Harrison Bergeron was also similar to Ellison s Repent, Harlequin! in that they re fighting an

compared to Frost s The Road Not Taken due to the self interest and desire they had for the experience
they wanted. Rebellion can present itself in many scenarios, but eventually, the consequences that
come along are unpredictable.

Anglo Saxon And Germanic Culture In Beowulf
Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture has a very deep culture, in which they are known in history. As
this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem.
With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf
exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with
Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this
ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty
was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about
Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him
alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that
would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the
famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was
one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men
arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him
they were just excited knowing he could be the one. The leader of the troop unlocked his word hoard;
the distinguished one delivered this answer: We belong by birth to the Geat people mission and owe

Roman Republic Vs Roman Kingdom
In the reading assignment, I have learned so many differences between the two classes in the Roman
societies that lead to so many revolts. After I finished reading the documents, I realized that those
revolts also made Rome became the strong power that it was. And I imagine that if there were some
people like that in some societies, there would be more progress in those societies. We have to be clear
that the Roman society that I m talking about is the Roman Republic and not the Roman Kingdom.
The differences between those two are that the Roman Kingdom had a Monarch government that
means it was ruled by a king while the Roman Republic was a free government. To be honest with
you, I don t really understand the type of government that the Roman Republic had because in some
times, dictators were appointed, Senators were elected, and there were also popular assemblies. So, I
don t really know this type of government. As a free government, it is clear that people who are
wealthy and had more power would be more benefit in everything. I can qualify those people as the
aristocrats. They would group themselves to form a group of leaders to rule over the Republic. Here
came the creation of the two classes and the struggle between them. All over the world and ... Show

But, with their revolts, they obtained the same rights as the Patricians. There is one thing that keeps
my attention after I finished reading about the political equality of the Roman Republic. The division
between the two classes had caused the destruction of Rome by the Gaul and the Veil. The differences
made it weak and unprotected. References: William C. Morey. (1901). The Struggle for Economic

symbols used in the text really mean? 2: What is the form of the text? I don t really know the genre it

symbolism. It is a descriptive style. The scene of the text is when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up

Seamus Heaney s Mid-Term Break Essay
Midterm Break Interp Mid Term Break
Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break is an extremely tear jerking poem. The story begins and ends in a
very depressing manner, while in between we are treated to a very vivid and blunt view of life and
how it can all come to an abrupt end. While Mid Term Break does use death to grab at the reader s
heart strings, the story is most likely a description of life in Heaney s native Northern Ireland, not
Heaney s life, but a very general view of life in Northern Ireland, how it can all come to a screeching
halt at the hands of others and for no apparent reason. The warring in Northern Ireland has cost a lot of
lives and due to the staggering amount of those who have passed for their cause, it is easy ... Show

It could be interpreted that this is a representation of those leaders who lead the rebellion. Those who
send others to the front, then when one of their own goes down to attack, pull back somewhat and deal
with their loss, rather than continue to lend that same support to the cause. Heaney s mother coughing
out angry tearless sighs, (Heaney 13) speaks as a sort of anger in those around who feel this is more of
a setback to the rebellion, rather than losses that will affect families.
Lines 14 15 again shows Heaney using assonance, this time in his repetition of the short a . At ,
ambulance , arrived , stanched , and , and bandaged (Heaney 14 15) this emphasizes the stopping short
of blood and life. This death , is a very heart wrenching description of the prospect of their cause
coming to an end with every wave of casualties, not so much about death of those serving, but death
of the cause.
In the sixth stanza, Heaney tells us, the reader, that he hadn t seen his brother for six weeks, having
been away at school (Heaney 18). This could represent a sort of drift into personal loss, perhaps a
loved one lost in conflict, but most likely it is more of a vague insight to, perhaps, a specific excursion
in which several people left to encounter the opposing force and those survivors are just now
returning. Given the mood of the piece, the survivors are badly beaten and wounded, adding to the
despair felt throughout the work. The

The Plague by Albert Camus Essay
The Plague by Albert Camus
Albert Camus The Plague, takes place in the desert town of Oran, Algeria, in northern Africa. It is the
perfect setting for this story to take place. The ordinariness of Oran is contrasted with the
extraordinary business of the plague. Sprintzen points out that There is a mythic significance of Oran.
Given the previous description of the quality of Oranian life, the selection of Oran as the location for
the outbreak of plague should not come as a surprise (Sprintzen 38). In Oran, life for its inhabitants
has lost meaning. The plague offers them a chance to give meaning back to their lives. The plot of the

Vital living can be stifled by habits. Todd suggests that It is at this point that one should revolt against
his stultifying pattern of living. Recognition of bottomless death makes a habit bound life even more
absurd (Todd 165). Considering that they are completely unaware of anything around them, it is easy
to see that the disease captures the city completely by surprise; no one is prepared for it. Doctors
gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for
what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors
in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a
negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes
apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the
doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs
higher and higher. Sprintzen writes The Plague does, beyond any possible discussion, represent the
transition from an attitude of solitary revolt to the recognition of a community whose struggles must
be shared (Sprintzen 103). Yet slowly at first, people begin to die, and the citizens of Oran take notice.
The residents of Oran do not need to worry about looking for society and

Russia s Information War Against The Ultra Conservative...
By John Foley, US Army, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired)
Russia is engaging the United States in an information war designed to fracture the US along ethnic
and racial lines. They are targeting the ultra conservative population of the United States with a covert
information campaign. The goal is to influence and persuade ultra conservatives that the US
Government is illegitimate and needs to oppose it by force of arms. This article lays out Russia s
information war influencing the ultra conservative population.
The recent Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee s computers servers has
highlighted Russia s nefarious information war against the US. In recent years Russia developed a
highly capable method of waging information warfare and they are now aggressively targeting the US.
The Russian strategy has focused on digitally infiltrating and influencing through social media the

Russia s information war may appear a nuisance to our national defense, but I argue this is an
existential threat facing the US far greater than ISIS, ballistic missiles, or even the regular Russian
Armed Forces. These are still threats, but not to the degree of Russia s information war. This
information war is aimed directly at American society and is designed to destroy our society. Russia s
information war against the Ukraine and other eastern European nations is understood very

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of Western Media
Stereotypes have the ability to put a person down. To make them feel as if they do not belong. In this
cruel society, there is an image being portrayed of every individual. Ethnicity, race, religion, gender,
and many more. This image many not describe who you are as an individual, but it is how you are
judged by this barbarous world. As more Chinese people came to America, the more they were
stereotyped. They did not have the same advantages and treatment as the majority. They were looked
down upon as nothing more than cheap, hardworking labor workers who worked in the fields. Western
media portrays the Chinese in a negative way, by using the power of stereotyping, where self harm can
be inflicted upon those who are affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes them to become exhausted, depresses, and self destructive to become the stereotype that
everyone thinks they are (Opinion). It is not a bad thing to strive for good grades and such, but the
media directs it only to the Asian population. No one expects the white, the African American, or any
other race that is not the Asian to be born smart. No one is born naturally like that. It takes
determination and the willpower to work hard and strive to be the best. In the 1800s, after the
California Gold Rush, many Chinese people started moving to the United States looking to strike gold
to send back to their poor families. They worked there as a source of cheap labor in wool mills, and
cigar, shoe, and garment industries (Luo). They were known for being cheap and hard working. Then
in the 1900s, the image of the Chinese changed. They passed African Americans in average household
earnings and closed the wage gap with the whites. They became widely mentioned as being glorified
because they kept their heads down and never complained. Moving to the 2000s, they became known
as threatening degenerates but people were less racist to them because they proved themselves (Guo).
They have moved significantly up the socioeconomic ladder and became successful. However, they
are still not treated fairly. They are continued to be looked down

The Third Wave Of Behavioral Therapy
The Third Wave of Behavioral Therapy
The third wave of behavioral therapy includes acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical
behavior therapy, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. These types of therapies are designed to
help people accept difficult life experiences and to persuade individuals to act on their core values. An
evolution of cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT, MBCT, and DBT not only include the thought process
within the behavioral network, but mindfulness and acceptance as well. Instead of teaching people to
control their thoughts and feelings in the case of CBT, ACT DBT draws from far eastern philosophies
of noticing and accepting the things in life that you cannot change.
Acceptance and commitment therapy, formally called comprehensive distancing, helps individuals
connect their thoughts, feelings, and emotions with their self as context or the self that is experiencing
and observing the world. The western philosophy of psychology teaches people that some possess
troubled minds while others do not. In ACT, the theory suggests that troubles come within ourselves
and arise out of hiccups up in our thought or emotional processes. As a result of these emotional and
cognitive disturbances, ACT holds that people thrash against these unpleasant thoughts and feelings.
Instead of just accepting them, people create experiential avoidance for themselves, pushing thoughts
out of their head or failing to engage in behaviors that make them anxious or depressed.

Persuasive Speech On Animal Testing
As a huge animal lover, I was disgusted to hear about Ebbie s story. Ebbie was a beagle rescued from
an animal testing lab in Spain. When he was rescued by an organization called Beagle Freedom
Project, he was deathly ill, emaciated and had tumors all over his frail body. Before being rescued, he
had spent his entire life in solitary confinement where humans tested many deadly chemicals on him.
When he first moved into his new home after being rescued, he just spent his days lying on the floor
and was unwilling to interact with humans in anyway. It s truly incredible that after months of love
and compassion from people that fostered him, he learned about love and trust towards humans after
being so dramatically traumatized from the abuse he received in a lab. I stand here today to present
you with the issue that needs to be addressed immediately: the abuse of millions of innocent and
defenseless animals through animal experimentation. Millions of animals are in agonizing pain while
being kept in tiny cages of labs while scientists inject dangerous substances in them and perform risky
surgeries on them. Such immorality of scientists is allowed because there are no laws that prohibit this
torture and protect the quality of life of these innocent animals. The root of animal testing started
thousands of years ago when scientists studied animals. During the early twentieth century, more
people became curious about biology and body systems; therefore, studied on animals. As

Homelessness In Canada Essay
As the holiday season is right around the corner, you may be considering a few specific things you
will be asking for Christmas this year. A few ideas that might come to mind could be a new pair of
shoes, or the newest and hottest video game. While this might be true, there are many people out there
who have to find a roof over my head at the top of their list. Those with that wish are those people you
pass by everyday on the streets, shaking a tin can with the rustling sound of a couple loose change and
those Canadian Tire bills people just throw in. Those people are evidently homeless; as they depend
on the streets and a cardboard box for a home and a bed. At least 200,000 people experience
homelessness in Canada each year! To give you a better visualization, approximately 30,000
Canadians will spend their night unsheltered, tonight. That s more than 30,000 people waking up on
Christmas Day without a home to call their own [2]. Canada is known as a very developed country,
but we still suffer challenges like this. Topics to consider to why someone might fall into the
community of homelessness could be the following: poverty, unemployment, ... Show more content

homelessness is expected to live 30 years less of his/hers life than the average human being! Out of
the hundreds and thousands of people who suffer homelessness in Canada each year, most of them are
children/teens and women. That being said, about 5000 young deaths occur each year due to assault,
attacks, illnesses, and suicides while living on the streets. All in all, no one deserves to undergo such

Evaluation Of The Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Estimations indicate that each year in the United States 200,000 ACL tears occur, with approximately
50 percent of those tears requiring reconstructive surgery: Furthermore, about half of those ACL tears
are accompanied by a torn meniscus (the cartilage that acts as the shock absorber between the shin
bone and the thigh bone) and/or injuries to other ligaments. Common symptoms of a torn ACL include
knee instability, swelling and pain.
What is the ACL?
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) are located inside
the knee joint. The ACL and PCL form an X behind the kneecap (patella), with the ACL resting in
front of the PCL. Both of these ligaments are responsible for controlling the back and forth motion of
the knee joint; however, the ACL is responsible for stabilizing the kneecap ). In addition, the ACL is
responsible for preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward on the thigh bone (femur). The
ACL provides the knee with stability while an individual pivots or twists. This ligament is critical
because without it, performing any kind of rotational activity is impossible, particularly when it comes
to playing sports like soccer and basketball.
What Does It Mean When Someone Has a Torn ACL?
An ACL tear is among the most common knee injury reported. This injury involves a breakage of the
fibers making up the ACL. Sometimes, the entire Anterior Cruciate Ligament is torn; whereas, other
times it is just partially torn.

Morgan State University
November 1, 2016 Risk Factors for Falls Among Geriatric Population Living in Nursing Facilities
Falls are a major problem in elderly population in the United States living in nursing facilities.
Statistics from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) show that approximately
800,000 seniors fall each year and 1 in 3 of those will fall twice or one more time in a year. (Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2012). Most falls are caused by a combination of risk factors.
The more risk factors a person has, the greater their chances of falling. Healthcare providers can help
cut down a person s risk by reducing the fall risk factors
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Serious injuries have resulted from the falls such
as hip fractures, concussions, decreased cognitive and functional abilities, and increased risk of death.
The cost of treatment resulting from falls is rising each year. According to CDC, adjusted for inflation,
the direct medical costs for fall injuries are $31 billion annually. (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention,2016). Those who do not suffer severe injuries live with fear of falling so they restrict their
activities, which lead to increased comorbidities.

Waste Water Case Study
It can be concluded that mixed primary and secondary iron nanoparticles were synthesized in Mt and
PVP involved borohydride reduction system. In addition, the nanoparticles contained an iron oxide
coated α Fe core and a PVP surface layer. Also, the clay polymer interactions made PVP not only
adsorb on the external surface but also intercalate into the interlayer space of Mt particles, developing
a polymer barrier on the clay mineral surfaces. Due to the barrier related steric hindrances and/or
alkaline pH derived electrostatic repulsions, the clay mineral particles built a card house flocculation
structure, which after suitable washing and drying can convert to a semi card house form in dry
products. [2]

[20] In addition detergents in laundry water has been reported to have a negative impact by destroying
fish mucus membranes and gills to some degree. As a consequence, the gills lose natural oils,
interrupting oxygen transfer. Damaged mucus membranes leave fish susceptible to bacteria and

cause endocrine disrupting and estrogenic effects in fish. [21] In addition, oil/grease can be found

contaminants both soluble or insoluble before its discharge into the environment. Coagulation,
adsorption, flocculation, chemical oxidation, and biological treatments are some of the conventional
methods used in treating laundry waste be discharge into the environment. [23] These methods have
been successful in its entire application but suffer some drawbacks. For example, ineffective
decolorization of waste water and time consuming efforts makes it difficult for effective removal of

children immediately as well as post divorce. I will start with infants, preschool age children, school

Adolescence is filled with physical and emotional changes, along with ones search for their identity.
Divorce during this time can have a strong affect on an adolescent who is still trying to find
themselves. Teenagers need to have a secure foundation to grow and mature, but divorce can alter that.
A child or teen should not have to think about their parents lives. Divorce can be very unsettling;
changing the primary relationship between adolescent and adult. Divorce may change the child or
teens relationship with extended family members. For a child or teen, divorce is a hard situation to
deal with. As one teenager said when asked what divorce is; It is like having your whole life flushed
down a toilet and as it swirls downward you are powerless to do anything about it .
Spiritual Effect
In the United States (U.S.), the divorce rate for first marriages is about 50 percent and for second
marriages it s about 60 percent. An estimated one million American children live through the divorce
of their parents every year. For those estimated one million American children, in general, they will
have a more difficult time with religion and a relationship with God. Those children often describe
themselves as spiritual or as involved in organized religion as others, but the truth is that they are more
often far less involve in organized religion activities. Children of divorce may have a hard time
understanding God. Often

Gender Roles in American Society Essay
Gender Roles in American Society
Femininity and masculinity are topics that have been debated over in our society extensively, through
psychological research and day to day interaction with people. Children learn from their parents as
well as society the concept of feminine and masculine. The majority of people tend to believe that
these conceptions are biological but I believe it is more cultural. From birth, female children are
shaped by society as being sweet, caring, loving, and delicate and usually associated with the color
pink. While male children are shaped by being tough, aggressive, and competitive and associated with
the color blue. As these children grow, the boy is given a football to play with and the girl a ... Show

During the early stages of a child s life the mother is the dominant figure. She really is the only figure
until the child starts to play with other children. This is when children can venture away from their
mother and find and develop their on own sense of self. Biology too plays a major role in the
differences between male and female. Genetically, there are differing chromosomes. XY for male and
XX for female. These chromosome differences account for the physical differences that men and
women have. In dealing with body composition, males are more likely to be taller and more muscular.
Males also have testosterone, the male sex hormone. It is said that males with high levels are more
confrontational and smile less. Women that have low levels of estrogen, the female sex hormone, are
said to be more disagreeable and confrontational. Maybe because men have such a huge advantage
over women by being physically larger, they are supposed to be more aggressive and women having
less physical strength are supposed to be the nurturers. Gender is a major cause of a person s identity.
People act the way the do because of the gender that has been assigned to them. Have you ever heard
someone say, It s just their nature to act like that. A sense of identity can be seen in many young
children. When a child is ready to make the decision of what they are and who they want to be, they

One major issue with Industrial Hemp is its use for BioMass fuel. Believe it or not, but the energy that
Cannabis stores during its growth can be converted into fuel after harvest. Many plants can be used to
make BioMass fuel, yet Cannabis is the top candidate for its supply due to it s abundance of cellulose
and ease of harvesting it. BioMass fuel can be used for absolutely any form of energy, be it fuel to
power an engine (car) or to generate electricity. BioMass fuel burns cleaner than petrochemical fuels.
Paper made from hemp is superior to wood pulp paper in every facet. First, and most importantly,
Cannabis is grown in a field and is planted and harvested in the same year. Forests that are cut down

process that has many toxic byproducts. Cannabis paper requires no bleaching due to its naturally
creamy color. Hemp paper is stronger, lasts longer, and holds ink better than wood pulp paper. Hemp

A Short Note On Silent And Oral Modes Of Learning
Introduction: The focus of this Investigation Project is Remembering and Forgetting, specifically
Memory. Memory is often defined as the processing, storage and retrieval of information acquired

form of a Memory bias in favour of remembering the unusual. It predicts that if an item is isolated,
that item is learned faster, retained longer, and recalled better than a non isolated item (Homes, C.

Figure 1 The above illustrates the summary of different relation of function. Below we will focus on further explaining of how to isolate the recursions from the code in order to gain the benefit of convenience, which is easier to control, repair and further develop the code. In (inception) Fix (fixpoint) The whole idea if In and Fix is all about where the recursion of code performs in the data type, which isolate the recursion to a single spot, usually represented by parameter k. A typical good quality fingerprint template contains 20 70 minutiae points; the actual number depends on the size of the finger sensor surface and how the user places his or her finger on the sensor. The system stores the minutiae information position and direction along with the user s demographic information as a template in the enrollment database. During the identification phase, the user puts the finger on the same sensor, generating a new fingerprint image or template called query print. Minutiae points are carried out from the query print, and the matcher module compares the set of query minutia with the stored minutia templates or image in the enrollment database to find the number of similar minutia points. Because of variations present in finger placement and pressure applied to the sensor, the minutia points take out from the template and query fingerprints must be lined up, or submitted before matching. During his several years in Europe, he had an opportunity to see some of the classical buildings with which he had become acquainted from his reading, as well as to discover the modern trends in French architecture that were then fashionable in Paris. In 1794, following his service as the first U.S. Secretary of State (1790 93), Jefferson began rebuilding his house based on the ideas he had acquired in Europe. The remodeling continued throughout most of his presidency (1801 09). Although generally completed by 1809, Jefferson continued work on the present structure until his death in 1826. Jefferson added a center hallway and a parallel set of rooms to the structure, more than doubling its area. He removed the second full height story from the original house and replaced it with a mezzanine bedroom floor. • 9. The Controversial Issue Of Abortions As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places that are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just looking at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many controversial issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper. When the word Abortion is heard, a heated argument often arises between couples, families, governments, and most commonly throughout women s minds around the world. Over the past hundred years, the topic of abortions has been an ongoing issue. Many people agree to this practice, while others see it as completely absurd. In the past, present and most likely into the future, women have very little say in deciding whether to have an abortion or to have a baby. For many women, rape is a major issue. Without a choice, in most commonly a life or death situation, women are raped and impregnated by the man who raped them. In cases like this, the majority of women are not financially stable to have a child, nor are they physically or mentally prepared for the life they have ahead. This is when the discussion of abortion comes into place and the controversial argument begins. In Canada in 1892, parliament passed a criminal code that stated the prohibition of abortions as well as the sale, distribution and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson Andrew Han 10/24/2015 TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature Ellen Bayer Conversation Essay As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed ... • 15. Anglo Saxon And Germanic Culture In Beowulf Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture has a very deep culture, in which they are known in history. As this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem. With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him they were just excited knowing he could be the one. After I finished reading the documents, I realized that those revolts also made Rome became the strong power that it was. And I imagine that if there were some people like that in some societies, there would be more progress in those societies. We have to be clear that the Roman society that I m talking about is the Roman Republic and not the Roman Kingdom. The differences between those two are that the Roman Kingdom had a Monarch government that means it was ruled by a king while the Roman Republic was a free government. To be honest with you, I don t really understand the type of government that the Roman Republic had because in some times, dictators were appointed, Senators were elected, and there were also popular assemblies. So, I don t really know this type of government. As a free government, it is clear that people who are wealthy and had more power would be more benefit in everything. I can qualify those people as the aristocrats. They would group themselves to form a group of leaders to rule over the Republic. Here came the creation of the two classes and the struggle between them. All over the world and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The style that the writer uses/that Jesus uses is in such way giving many symbolism; the words used has many symbolism. It is a descriptive style. • 18. Seamus Heaney s Mid-Term Break Essay Midterm Break Interp Mid Term Break Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break is an extremely tear jerking poem. The story begins and ends in a very depressing manner, while in between we are treated to a very vivid and blunt view of life and how it can all come to an abrupt end. While Mid Term Break does use death to grab at the reader s heart strings, the story is most likely a description of life in Heaney s native Northern Ireland, not Heaney s life, but a very general view of life in Northern Ireland, how it can all come to a screeching halt at the hands of others and for no apparent reason. The warring in Northern Ireland has cost a lot of lives and due to the staggering amount of those who have passed for their cause, it is easy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could be interpreted that this is a representation of those leaders who lead the rebellion. Those who send others to the front, then when one of their own goes down to attack, pull back somewhat and deal with their loss, rather than continue to lend that same support to the cause. Heaney s mother coughing out angry tearless sighs, (Heaney 13) speaks as a sort of anger in those around who feel this is more of a setback to the rebellion, rather than losses that will affect families. Lines 14 15 again shows Heaney using assonance, this time in his repetition of the short a . At , ambulance , arrived , stanched , and , and bandaged (Heaney 14 15) this emphasizes the stopping short of blood and life. This death , is a very heart wrenching description of the prospect of their cause coming to an end with every wave of casualties, not so much about death of those serving, but death of the cause. In the sixth stanza, Heaney tells us, the reader, that he hadn t seen his brother for six weeks, having been away at school (Heaney 18). This could represent a sort of drift into personal loss, perhaps a loved one lost in conflict, but most likely it is more of a vague insight to, perhaps, a specific excursion in which several people left to encounter the opposing force and those survivors are just now returning. Given the mood of the piece, the survivors are badly beaten and wounded, adding to the despair felt throughout the work. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the perfect setting for this story to take place. The ordinariness of Oran is contrasted with the extraordinary business of the plague. Sprintzen points out that There is a mythic significance of Oran. Given the previous description of the quality of Oranian life, the selection of Oran as the location for the outbreak of plague should not come as a surprise (Sprintzen 38). Considering that they are completely unaware of anything around them, it is easy to see that the disease captures the city completely by surprise; no one is prepared for it. Doctors gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs higher and higher. Sprintzen writes The Plague does, beyond any possible discussion, represent the transition from an attitude of solitary revolt to the recognition of a community whose struggles must be shared (Sprintzen 103). • 20. Russia s Information War Against The Ultra Conservative... By John Foley, US Army, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Russia is engaging the United States in an information war designed to fracture the US along ethnic and racial lines. They are targeting the ultra conservative population of the United States with a covert information campaign. The goal is to influence and persuade ultra conservatives that the US Government is illegitimate and needs to oppose it by force of arms. This article lays out Russia s information war influencing the ultra conservative population. The recent Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee s computers servers has highlighted Russia s nefarious information war against the US. In recent years Russia developed a highly capable method of waging information warfare and they are now aggressively targeting the US. The Russian strategy has focused on digitally infiltrating and influencing through social media the conservative movement in the United States in order to make it hostile to its own government. Russia s information war may appear a nuisance to our national defense, but I argue this is an existential threat facing the US far greater than ISIS, ballistic missiles, or even the regular Russian Armed Forces. These are still threats, but not to the degree of Russia s information war. This information war is aimed directly at American society and is designed to destroy our society. The Third Wave Of Behavioral Therapy The Third Wave of Behavioral Therapy The third wave of behavioral therapy includes acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. These types of therapies are designed to help people accept difficult life experiences and to persuade individuals to act on their core values. An evolution of cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT, MBCT, and DBT not only include the thought process within the behavioral network, but mindfulness and acceptance as well. Instead of teaching people to control their thoughts and feelings in the case of CBT, ACT DBT draws from far eastern philosophies of noticing and accepting the things in life that you cannot change. Acceptance and commitment therapy, formally called comprehensive distancing, helps individuals connect their thoughts, feelings, and emotions with their self as context or the self that is experiencing and observing the world. The western philosophy of psychology teaches people that some possess troubled minds while others do not. In ACT, the theory suggests that troubles come within ourselves and arise out of hiccups up in our thought or emotional processes. As a result of these emotional and cognitive disturbances, ACT holds that people thrash against these unpleasant thoughts and feelings. Instead of just accepting them, people create experiential avoidance for themselves, pushing thoughts out of their head or failing to engage in behaviors that make them anxious or depressed. ... When he was rescued by an organization called Beagle Freedom Project, he was deathly ill, emaciated and had tumors all over his frail body. Before being rescued, he had spent his entire life in solitary confinement where humans tested many deadly chemicals on him. When he first moved into his new home after being rescued, he just spent his days lying on the floor and was unwilling to interact with humans in anyway. It s truly incredible that after months of love and compassion from people that fostered him, he learned about love and trust towards humans after being so dramatically traumatized from the abuse he received in a lab. I stand here today to present you with the issue that needs to be addressed immediately: the abuse of millions of innocent and defenseless animals through animal experimentation. Millions of animals are in agonizing pain while being kept in tiny cages of labs while scientists inject dangerous substances in them and perform risky surgeries on them. Such immorality of scientists is allowed because there are no laws that prohibit this torture and protect the quality of life of these innocent animals. A few ideas that might come to mind could be a new pair of shoes, or the newest and hottest video game. • 27. Evaluation Of The Anterior Cruciate Ligament Estimations indicate that each year in the United States 200,000 ACL tears occur, with approximately 50 percent of those tears requiring reconstructive surgery: Furthermore, about half of those ACL tears are accompanied by a torn meniscus (the cartilage that acts as the shock absorber between the shin bone and the thigh bone) and/or injuries to other ligaments. Common symptoms of a torn ACL include knee instability, swelling and pain. What is the ACL? The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) are located inside the knee joint. The ACL and PCL form an X behind the kneecap (patella), with the ACL resting in front of the PCL. Both of these ligaments are responsible for controlling the back and forth motion of the knee joint; however, the ACL is responsible for stabilizing the kneecap ). In addition, the ACL is responsible for preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward on the thigh bone (femur). The ACL provides the knee with stability while an individual pivots or twists. This ligament is critical because without it, performing any kind of rotational activity is impossible, particularly when it comes to playing sports like soccer and basketball. What Does It Mean When Someone Has a Torn ACL? An ACL tear is among the most common knee injury reported. This injury involves a breakage of the fibers making up the ACL. Sometimes, the entire Anterior Cruciate Ligament is torn; whereas, other times it is just partially torn. What ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Statistics from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) show that approximately 800,000 seniors fall each year and 1 in 3 of those will fall twice or one more time in a year. (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2012). Most falls are caused by a combination of risk factors. The more risk factors a person has, the greater their chances of falling. Healthcare providers can help cut down a person s risk by reducing the fall risk factors (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Serious injuries have resulted from the falls such as hip fractures, concussions, decreased cognitive and functional abilities, and increased risk of death. The cost of treatment resulting from falls is rising each year. According to CDC, adjusted for inflation, the direct medical costs for fall injuries are $31 billion annually.
