Integumentary System
B5 Summarize the major functions of the integumentary system and give examples on how this
system relates to at least two other organ systems.
The 5 Major functions of the skin:
1. Protection o The integumentary system protects the human body in two ways physically and
chemically.
 Physically, keratinized epithelial cells (outermost layer of skin cells) act as a tough waterproof
barrier. These keratinized cells are really good at protecting the body from water loss, mechanical and
chemical injury, and keeping bacterial cells out of the body.
 Chemically, a chemical barrier is formed by the production of acidic secretions by the sebaceous
(oil) glands. The acidic environment inhibits bacterial growth.
2. Thermoregulation o The integumentary system helps to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
 The various wastes secreted by the integumentary system are cellular metabolic wastes,
electrolytes, and excess water.
5. Synthesize Vitamin D3 o The integumentary system synthesizes vitamin D3 in the presence of
sunlight.
 In the presence of sunlight a sterol (7 Dehydrocholesterol) is converted to vitamin D3. Vitamin D3
is needed for our bones and teeth to grow and is important in making certain types of antibodies.
Vitamin D3 also plays an important role in the absorption of calcium for our bones.
Relation to Skeletal System
Skin protects the bones, but also synthesizes the vitamin D3 that bones need for normal calcium
absorption and deposit of bone (calcium) salts, which make bones hard.
Relation to Endocrine System
Androgens produced by the endocrine system activate the sebaceous glands and help regulate hair
growth; estrogen helps to maintain skin hydration.
3 Fun Facts
1. The thinnest skin is found on your eyelids 0.1mm thick, while the thickest skin is found on the
bottom of your foot 2 3mm thick.
2. Scar tissue lacks hair and sweat glands
3. Not so fun fact Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US.

one or more organizational tasks Virtual teams are becoming increasingly important and common as
work processes have become more globalized. As the world continues to become increasingly

called Basecamp, which is a virtual project management platform that is easy to use and can be
organized by specific topic, message, or subject matter. Another digital media platform is Zoho, which
is a CRM tool that provides collaboration both internally and externally. It runs on the cloud and is

Controversies Surrounding Classification of Disorders Essay
Controversies Surrounding Classification
Theories of Psychopathology
HS513 T302
March 25, 2012
Abstract
The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally
published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365
diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied
on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other
professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway,
there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance.
The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over
dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that
divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have
been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional
model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically
to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other
genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the
dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal,
cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a
particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to
classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the
individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual.
Instead of referring to someone as having an alcohol dependence

Anne Frank Childhood
Anne Frank was a normal girl in a not so normal time period. She was born in a time of war and
unjust, prejudice and racist thoughts. In a world of hate, she was able to keep her good spirit and faith
in humanity until the end.
Born June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, Annelise Marie Frank was the youngest in a family of
four. A mother (Edith), a father (Otto) and a sister, (Margot) Anne seemed to have a pretty good life.
She was a citizen of Germany until 1941 when the Nuremberg laws took effect. Her family moved to
Amsterdam in the early 1930 s when Nazis gained control over Germany. When Anne turned 13, on
June 12, 1942, she was given an autograph book. She decided to use it as a diary. In July of that year,
Margot was called to a work camp. The family decided they would go into hiding. July 6, 1942. The
Frank family puts on as many layers as they can, as no Jew would be caught dead with a suitcase.
Anne had Some of the items Anne packed were; her special diary called Kitty , curlers, hankies,
school books and letters from friends and family members. The only clothes Anne was allowed to take
with were: 2 vests, 3 pair pants, two pair of stockings, dress skirt, jacket, shorts, lace up shoes, wool
cap, and scarf. They were forced to leave behind their cat, Moortje. When they made it to the Annexe,

Similarities Between The Scottsboro Boys And To Kill A...
The Scottsboro Trials Influence The Scottsboro trial of the 1930 s is still one of the most famous racial
cases today. It impacted the legal system and changed the course of history for years to come. It has
even influenced and inspired literary work such as Tom Robinson s case in Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird. The similarities between the Scottsboro case and Tom Robinson s case heavily outweigh
the differences. Thus it can be concluded that without the Scottsboro case To Kill a Mockingbird
would not have the storyline readers know today. The Scottsboro trials began on March 25, 1931 in
the town of Scottsboro, AL. The case consisted of 9 black boys being accused of raping 2 white
women on a train they had been aboard. The boys accused, later known as the Scottsboro boys were
Olen Montgomery, Clarence Norris, Haywood Patterson, Ozie Powell, Andy Wright, Roy Wright,
Charles Weems, Eugene Williams and Willie Roberson, ranging in age from 12 to 20. The two white
women claiming they were raped were Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. To Kill a Mockingbird,
although written in 1960, takes place in the 1930 s during the Great Depression. The quiet town of
Maycomb, in Alabama is disturbed when Mayella Ewell, a white woman, accuses Tom Robinson, a
black man of raping her. The Scottsboro case is still one of the most famous cases from the Jim Crow
era and it is clear that it influenced Tom Robinson s case. From just the foundations of the two cases it
is obvious there are many parallels between them. The Scottsboro case and Tom Robinson s case both
took place in the 1930 s during the Great Depression. Tom Robinson and the Scottsboro boys are also
accused of the same crime. Although the Scottsboro case involves 9 boys and 2 women and the other
case only includes 1 man and 1 woman it is clear what Harper Lee was trying to represent. In both
cases there was an extreme lack of evidence, Ruby Bates testified that she was beaten and bruised by
the repeated rapes and that she lost consciousness, regaining consciousness only when she found
herself on the way to the Scottsboro jail. In fact, numerous witnesses and the arresting officers saw her
fully conscious when she and the boys were taken off the train. The physician

Benefits Of Canada s Double Trade Policy
Although there will be agreement, the double trade policy is going to continue. The benefits of
carrying out this trade is far outweigh the harm. David Watt, HSBC Canada chief economist, says that
for Canada s heavily resource based economy, there are clear benefits to trade deals with a country
that is likely going to be a key driver of commodity prices for the next 30 years. And it would be a
huge mistake if Canada let this chance go.
The government of Canada will support the policy. As a developing country, China has a large amount
of resource demand. Since Canada is rich in natural resources, the increasing export will lead to the
growth of Canada economic. We should see that as the trade policy continue, Canada export increase,
and there will be higher net export, which means the increase of GDP. We can find exact evidence for
this. The value of Canada s exports to China increased by 5.8% between 2012 and 2013, while the
value of Canada s imports from the country grew by 4.0%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The increasing trade with China will definitely influence the benefit of other trade partners of Canada.
The more Canada import from China, the less benefits other countries gain. The U.S. goods trade
deficit with Canada was $ 15 billion in 2015, a 57.1% decrease ($ 20 billion) over 2014. The total
value of export trade is less than the total value of imports, which means to spend more foreign
exchange for imports, and cause the reduce of foreign exchange reserves. Another reason is that as the
power of China is rising, the other signatories to TPP will be worried that whether Canada will ignore
the other side of China s rise, like its expansionist claims on maritime

Henry David Thoreau And Transcendentalism
Henry David Thoreau was a leading transcendentalist. He was most known for his essays, with the
major themes focusing on nature and government. His works weren t highly appreciated during his
lifetime, but as years went on they became very influential. He was one of the first environmentalists,
and he laid the groundwork for a lot of progressive movements. Henry David Thoreau was born on
July 12, 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts. In 1833 he started studying at Harvard college, till 1837. He
studied rhetoric, the classics, philosophy, mathematics, and science. Thoreau didn t like the idea of
traditional professions, so in 1835 he took a break from Harvard to teach. When he went back to
Harvard, he refused to pay the five dollar fee for his diploma. After he graduated, he started teaching
at a public school in Canton, Massachusetts. He quit a few weeks after starting because he refused to
use capital punishment on his students. In 1838, he and his brother, John, opened a grammar school.
This school was extremely progressive for its time; they would take nature walks and bring their
students to local shops and businesses. The school closed in 1842 when John died. Shortly after
college, Thoreau met Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson took a great interest in Thoreau and opened
him up to amazing opportunities. Emerson introduced him to some of the most influential people of
the time; Ellery Channing, Margaret Fuller, Bronson Alcott, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. In 1842,

Refashions The Torah s Narrative Into A Confessional Book
The Zohar refashions the Torah s narrative into a mystical novel. On one level, the biblical heroes are
the protagonist, and the rabbis interpret their words, their personalities, and their encounters with holy
or demonic forces. The commentary is often far removed from the literal meaning of the biblical text.
The words of Torah are a starting point, a springboard for the imagination. At times the commentators
become the main characters, and we read about dramatic study sessions with Rabbi Shim on or about
the rabbis adventures on the road. Moses remained in Guadalajara until at least 1291, and from there
he began circulating the Zohar. He did not distribute entire copies of the book, just portions. This is
indicated in the diary of Isaac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the Sef ha Zohar written mainly between 1280 and 1286 by Moses b. Shem Tov de Leon in
Guadalajara, a small town northeast of Madrid. In this city there also lived two kabbalist brothers,
Isaac and Meir b. Solomon ibn Sahula, and it is in Isaac s books that the first quotations are found
from the earliest stratum of the Zohar, dating from 1281. Many kabbalists were active at this time in
the small communities around Toledo, and there is evidence of mystical experience even among the
unlearned. An example of this is the appearance as a prophet in Avila in 1295 of Nissim b. Abraham,
an ignorant artisan, to whom an angel revealed a Kabbalistic work, Pil ot ha Hokhmah, and who was
opposed by Solomon b. Abraham Adret. This was the community where Moses de Leon passed the
last years of his life. The Zohar is the most important evidence for the stirring of a mythical spirit in
medieval Judaism. The origin of the book, its literary and religious character, and the role that it has
played in the history of Judaism, have been subjects of prolonged argument among scholars during the
analysis. In an analysis of this kind we can establish a precise place for the Zohar so doing we must
resist continually recurring apologetic attempts to antedate its composition by turning its late literary
sources into evidence for the earlier existence of the book, or by proclaiming ancient strata in it. The
mingling of these two currents the Kabbalah of Gerona and the Kabbalah of the Gnostics of Castile
became in the mind of Moses de Leon a creative encounter which determined the basic character of
the Zohar. Instead of the brief allusions and interpretations of his predecessors he presents a broad
canvas of interpretation and homiletics covering the whole world of Judaism as it appeared to him. He

Fluoridated Toothpaste Persuasive Essay
For approximately 60 years water fluoridation has been a controversial public health intervention to
control dental caries. With regards to the mass amounts of research put in over the six decades, one
might think that researches have concluded a clear answer to the question, do the benefits out weight
the possible consequences? Scholarly sources suggest that fluoridation of public water does, in fact,
significantly lower dental caries in both adolescents and adults, but also suggest this is not the only,
nor the most globally beneficial, solution to the problem. Though fluoridation of public water sources
is supported by major organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), it is abandoned
and neglected by citizens who fear its potential side effects.

According to the author Sally Ann Botchey, in 1956 the first fluoridated tooth paste was released in
Cincinnati, Ohio with the trade mark name, Crest. The release of this product benefitted countries
immensely. In countries that do not fluoridate drinking water, such as Denmark and Italy, fluoridated
toothpastes account for more than 90% of the sales of toothpaste products (Botchey, 48). Author
Andrew W. Campbell supports fluoridated toothpaste as the most successful form of fluoridation
based off the conclusions stated in the National Research Council s 2006 study on fluoride and the
following statement made by the Dental Clinics of North America. Current evidence strongly suggests
that fluorides work primarily by topical means through direct action on the teeth and dental plaque.
Thus ingestion of fluoride is not essential for caries prevention (Campbell, 9). Concluding his
argument he states that it is becoming increasingly clear, fluoridating public water supplies is outdated
and unnecessary... (Campbell,

John Donne Holy Sonnets Essay
John Donne
Death is a very complicated subject that people view very differently in different situations. In John
Donne s Holy Sonnets, he writes about death in Meditations X and XVII. Both meditations use many
similar rhetorical devices and appeals, but the tones of the meditations are very disparate. Donne s
different messages in Meditations X and XVII convey tones of defiance and acquiescence towards
death, respectively. His apparent change of attitude towards death could be accounted for by his
differing life situations while he was writing the meditations: mid life, and near death.
Meditation X , which Donne wrote in mid life, has a very defiant and powerful tone. Donne ... Show

In Meditation XVII Donne uses logos to show how death is an omnipresent, omnipotent entity. His
repetition and emphasis of bells, which symbolize death, are reminders of how death is everywhere:
bells are everywhere, therefore death is everywhere.
The rhetorical devices in each of Donne s meditations do not differ much, but they create very
different tones. Allusion in both meditations to the Bible has different effects on the audience. In
Meditation X death is referred to as thou which alludes to the Bible which constantly uses thou when
God refers to human beings. This allusion is a further demonstration of Donne s feelings of superiority
over death. In Meditation XVII death is referred to as being an extension of God himself, which is an
extreme opposite from death s position in Meditation XVII , and which works to create the more
acquiescent and passive tone. Relatively, both meditations appeal to the audience s values of religion
and God by referring to the Bible. Irony is employed by Donne in order to set the overall tone of the
meditations. The irony in Meditation X is that in the end, Death, thou shalt die (Donne). This poetic
justice follows the theme of Meditation X in its defiance against the forces of nature, and ultimately
identifies the tone of recalcitrance. The irony of Meditation XVII is that death is our onely securitie,
which does not

How Does Oil Affect Our Lives Depend On Oil
Introduction
Most people probably do not think about how much of their lives depend on oil. This profitable
commodity is constantly being used around the world, twenty four hours a day and seven days a week.
From the scented creams people use on their bodies, to the airline jets soaring above, oils are being
used. Oil is one of three major forms of fossil fuels, coal and natural gas being the rest. Fossil fuels
began forming millions of years ago in the Carboniferous Period when trees, plants, and small
organisms died (DOE, 2015). Eventually the fossils sank to the bottom of many swamps and oceans
forming layers of peat (a brown, soil like, and spongy material). Over thousands of years, peat was
covered by clay, sand, and other minerals which turned into a type of rock called sedimentary. Over
thousands of years rocks piled on top of the peat creating more pressure. Eventually the pressure
managed to squeeze water out of the peat and over millions of years, this mineral rich water turned
into the three major fossil fuels that people know and use today (DOE, 2015). Regardless of its
proficiency and success, the oil industry has become one of the most unethical businesses in the
world. Their blatant disregard for the environment and its inhabitants have continuously put them in
the crosshairs of many conservatives and concerned citizens. This paper primarily focuses on the
ethical dilemmas that surround the oil industry.

Sex Workers in Canada Essay
Sometimes, the term sex work is used, as well as prostitution . But whichever term we choose to say, it
does not eliminate the stigma attached to it. Cases such as the Bedford V. Canada Case (144) indulges
into the conspiracy of sex work and challenges certain sections of the Criminal Code that make
business in relation to prostitution illegal. Ideally, a sex worker has a career just as a teacher or lawyer.
For this reason, their human rights and dignity should be protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights
and Freedoms as are other professions. However, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as the
Criminal Code do not seek to protect sex workers, yet, they seek to do otherwise using certain sections

Statistics Canada says sex trade is job that is at a high risk since 2000. Homicide in Canada report had
said that since 1991, 73 sex workers were murdered on the job. Sadly, this trend remains today. In
2007, 15 sex workers were reported killed as a direct result of their profession, up and average of 7 per
year for the previous decade .1 Research has proven that the murder scale for sex workers represents
roughly 60 to 120 times the murder rate of adult women in the general Canadian population .2 Sex
work is a very controversial topic and many individuals are passionate about what they believe.
Regardless of the moral arguments, beliefs and disbeliefs, every person in Canada owns the right to
have their human rights as well as their health respected one hundred percent. The Courts of Canada
have focused on the precise question of whether or not Canada s current laws abide by the
Constitution and serve to protect the human rights of the persons engaging in sex work. Although
prostitution is legal in Canada and it is legal to be a sex worker, it is difficult for them to actually
engage in such activity without risking criminal charges that come after it and breaking the law. The
Criminal Code seeks to make almost every activity linked to prostitution illegal and forbids
prostitution in nearly every private, or even public place. Four sections listed in the Criminal Code

Bruce Dawe s Poetry
Several poems by Bruce Dawe surround the subject of loneliness and oppression, a matter that many
people face in today s society and also a matter that relates to his interests; his fascination with the
underdog character and how he provides a voice for certain individuals. The Raped Girl s Father , The
Family Man and The Sadness of Madonnas are three poems by Bruce Dawe that relate to the themes,
portraying realism in how loneliness and oppression affect people in the world. An example of a poem
related to the subject of loneliness and oppression is The Raped Girl s Father . The poem is about a
girl who had been raped and, as a consequence, is constantly abused by her father. From the title, the

For example, the rifle s eye is blank and rumours flower over his absence... symbolise how the reason
for the family man s death is blank and because of that, his workmates made assumptions as to why he

to himself; for example, from the table of humdrum cares and dream and walk...over the edge of dark
and quietly lie... which clearly explains that the man turned away from life. The imagery and
symbolism in The Sadness of Madonnas is similar; its purpose is to create an image of oppression
through the mother and child. For example, the xylophone rib cage and the wasted music of leg bones
and the thousands lying silent in the dirt, the dehydrated children s skin as tough as leather present a
powerful picture of the Ethiopian people and how the famine is making them suffer and slowly

alliteration and repetition create a dark and powerful atmosphere to the poem. The words used are

example of repetition and alliteration is eaten by the dark...and in that darker dark in which she lay ,
which emphasises the hell that the girl is experiencing in her dark bedroom and her vulnerability.

What Role Did Socrates Play in Ancient Greece?
In the leading city of Athens 2,500 years ago during the Golden Age, a peculiar philosopher was born
into the reign of Pericles. Socrates went against common religion, influenced social roles and people,
and was the founder of the Socratic Method. Religious opinions affected Socrates life a great deal.
Whereas most Athenians observed polytheism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were very popular but loathed at the same time because of the financial problems they were
causing. For example, the most famous sophist was called Corax. He had a student called Tisias who
refused to pay the fee for his classes, he said Before I started, you promised you would teach me to
persuade anyone to do whatever I wanted. Let me now persuade you not to ask for your fee. If you
still demand it, you did not do what you promised, therefore I owe you nothing. However, Socrates
discredited this, However, not one of these things is true; nor, if you have heard from anyone that I
attempt to teach men and require payment, is this true. (Plato, n.d.). Socrates irritated people by
insisting things that could not be true. Critobulus, who was considered by many to be the most
handsome man in Athens. However, Socrates, with his protruding eyes and large nose insisted he was
more stunning than Critobulus. Socrates defended this by saying things such as Because while yours
see straight ahead, mine, by bulging out as they do, see also to the sides, and Mine, I consider,
granting that Providence made us noses to smell with. For your nostrils look down toward the ground,
but mine are wide open and turned outward so that I can catch scents from all around. (Zannos, 2004).
Another story of Socrates impacting the life of an individual is shown by the dialogue that he had with
a young man he met at a wrestling school named Lysis. Socrates admitted to

Compare And Contrast Prynne And Dimmesdale
Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale are the two main characters of the Scarlet Letter.
While Hester s husband is away, the two commit adultery and keep their affair a secret from the rest of
the town. When the town officials realize that Hester is with child, they imprison her until the trial.
The townspeople want to know who the baby s father is but Hester refuses to tell them, even when her
former husband inquires about it. As her punishment, the officials make her wear a scarlet letter A so
everyone will know what sin she committed. Throughout the book, Hester and Mr. Dimmesdale each

Why Is Chocolate Milk Banned
Have you ever seen the nutritional facts on a carton of chocolate milk? You probably have. Now, have
you ever compared the facts with a regular coke? Probably not. The facts are astounding. Chocolate
milk has 1 more gram of sugar than a 8 fluid ounces of coke and has approximately 100 more calories!
In addition, chocolate milk has eight more grams of fat! That is extremely unreasonable! I think
chocolate milk should be banned from schools across the nation because it is over consumed, it is very
unhealthy, and it sweetens the taste buds of kids. Chocolate milk is a pure kid magnet. Studies show
that an average chocolate milk drinker drinks 10 15 cartons of milk a week; which results in an

It can also lead to diabetes and heart disease. Melissa Dobbins from the dairy council says that

Chocolate milk sweetens the taste buds for those who were taught to drink it. In addition, it is

How Did David Hume Contribute To The Enlightenment
The Age of Reason, or also known as the Age of Enlightenment, was a time period from the 1620 s to
the 1780 s that began in France that focused on scientific methods. It was called the Age of Reason
because most of the people had believed the world to be rational and in reason. There were many
books, essays, and inventions that had sparked during and because of this time period that changed the
world in a good way. Francis Hutcheson had written some significant works and is understood to be
one of the main founders of the Enlightenment. David Hume is also an important person during this
period because he inspired much of the Enlightenment by writing History of England . The French and
American revolutions ideals mostly had come from this time period. The Age of Reason had begun in
the 19th century Romanticism because of Jean Jacques Rousseau, who wrote The Social Contract in

Religion played a big part in this area because Christianity was affected by fighting with the attack on

to many different, new ideas. The new doubts had led on newer religion called Deism in which people
believed God was real and had created the universe but had made it function like a machine . Deism

tasks that s has been assigned to him/her from a client, the job is just beginning. They must first
understand and have general knowledge about the task that has been put in their hand. The mission
starts with assembling an all star team that will be able to assist you in every aspect as the project go
along, next, the project manager and selected team should start piecing together a strategy that
correlates with the project schedule to ensure every deadline will be made on or before time, also
enforce strong communication throughout the project, and set milestones and follow up at each
interval to assess the progress at every phase until the project is complete. A project manager must be
dedicated to the project assigned from beginning to end. It will consume a lot of your time, but you
will be overjoyed with a successful project at the end and say it was all well worth the stress, long
days and sleepless nights.

Oral Mucosa At The Macroscopic Level
The oral mucosa is a specialized tissue lining the oral cavity and consists of the following
components: (1) the masticatory mucosa, which lines the gingiva and the hard palate; (2) the
specialized mucosa covering the dorsum of the tongue; and (3) the lining mucosa which covers the
reminder of the oral cavity [201, 202]. The gingiva is considered an adaptation of the oral masticatory
mucosa covering the alveolar bone and surrounding the cervical portions of teeth. The gingiva protects
the roots of teeth, and underlying alveolar bone from mechanical trauma and serves as the first line of
defence against bacteria by preventing it from reaching the deeper structures [201, 203]. The gingiva
can be demarcated into several zones at the macroscopic (as perceived by the unaided eye) and the
microscopic levels according to anatomy or/ and function.
2.3.1.2.1 Oral mucosa at the macroscopic level
The normal healthy appearance of the gingiva is coral pink with a scalloped coronal border known as
the free gingival margin. The free gingival margin is approximately located 1.5 to 2 mm coronal to the
cementoenamel junction (CEJ) in healthy fully erupted teeth [204]. On the other end, the gingiva
becomes continuous with the loose, red lining mucosa known as the alveolar mucosa . The alveolar
mucosa differs in colour since it has a thin non keratinized epithelium and loose connective tissues
that contain numerous blood vessels but no rete pegs. Typically, the gingiva can be easily

The PATRIOT Act was passed almost instantaneously, trading American freedoms for the sake of
national security. The controversial act was a response for the panic stricken
Americans, and was the government s way of assuring another attack would not happen. Across the
ocean, western Europe was also caught up in the turmoil. How ever, wiretapping was already
commonplace, and did not need an act like the
PATRIOT Act to grant the necessary permissions. Instead, the European Union took a di erent
approach. They began to record and keep track of the comings and goings of their citizens, storing all
the data, in the event that it might prove useful in the future.
However, the fear did not last forever. As time went on, the immediate threat began to fade. With the

backlash in its wake. The

Analysis
Internal Revenue Code section 1221 defines capital asset as property held by the taxpayer (whether or
not connected with his trade or business), but does not include (1) Stock in trade of the taxpayer or
other property of a kind which would properly be included in the inventory of the taxpayer if on hand
at the close of the taxable year, or property held by the taxpayer primarily for sale to customers in the
ordinary course of his trade or business. As defined, Haig Simmons anthracite coal home heating and
delivery service business holds anthracite coal in the ordinary course of business and therefore, is not
considered a capital asset. Section 64 defines ordinary income as income earned from providing
services or the sale of goods (inventory) which is not a capital asset. Based on this definition, any
asset that does not classify as a capital asset is an ordinary asset. Since Haig Simmons was providing
home coal heating services for consumers, any inventory kept was for the purpose of maintaining a
steady, stable, and regular supply of coal and not held as a long term asset for future sale gains.

has been contained in a unpleasant marriage. Glaspell paint quickly establishes that the canary
symbolizes the particular cheerful side of Mrs. Wright destroyed by the oppression of her marriage.
(Sutten 170 178) Canaries are full of life and brightness. After her marriage the oppression of her
husband has killed her cheerful side and raped her of her life. The canary is known for its beautiful
voice. The bird s song is a replacement to the silence of a marriage without children. Love,
particularly maternal is associated with sound and in its absace with silence ( Makowsky 61) Minnie is
a caretaker with no children to take care of. Beyond being isolated she is lonely and deprived from her
true desires. The bird just like herself has been trapped and condemned to live in

Gifted Education In America
Education was built, along with many other things, to the average standard. It was designed with the
average student in mind, never really adapted towards those who grasps concepts quickly, accelerate
at rapid rates beyond their peers. As gifted, or exceptionally intelligence children make up around 6 to
10 percent of the students within America, roughly 3 to 5 million students ( Gifted Education in the
U.S ). But as America is behind in the general education, it is bounds behind in gifted education.
Teachers aren t equipped to challenge the gifted students, or simply have no time to spend developing
and nurturing the child s talents. Schools don t have programs to help the children develop at their
quicken pace, and programs in place aren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the children have been identified, they need to have an adequate program to aid in their
cognitive growth. The majority of gifted children are placed into the general education, leading to
boredom. As they understand concepts faster, especially abstract, boredom sets in as the children
continuously have to wait for their peers to catch up. Programs need to be made for them, as they are
the future. They will aid in the development and continuation of America, far more than the average
child. Several methods can be applied to a gifted program to keep the children engaged and their
minds simulated. Acceleration and Enrichment are two options, with the accelerated program having
the greatest positive feedback. Acceleration allows for the child to learn at a rapid pace, depending on
them not their peers, while enrichment is the addition of supplement information or reading
(Subotnik). Many programs in place presently have an accelerated program, but many are still too
slow or parents have no knowledge of it. The programs also puts less stress on the general education
teachers, especially if they don t know how to handle these students. Teachers within the program
should be specialized in dealing with the gifted, allowing for a better understanding and connection
between the student and teacher. And as all gifted students are different, the teachers need to be
slightly flexible, but still continue along the accelerated path. The program needs to placed
everywhere, and allow equal chance for everyone to get in. Many argue against these types of
programs, as they make clear the separation between the elite and average (Winner). While others
offer grade skipping, but never take into account the social development of the

Essay on The Moment of Inertia of a Disk and a Ring
Objective: The objective of this laboratory was to theoretically calculate the moment of inertia of a
disk and a ring and then to verify the moment of inertia for both objects through experiment. This
laboratory shows that while the theoretical is not within the uncertainty of the experimental, both
values are extremely similar to each other.
Data and Analysis:

This calculation will be done later on. After using equation 1 to find the experimental moment of
inertia, the average and standard deviation of the five trials for No Ring and Ring were calculated
using Excel commands for average and standard deviation. The averages will be used later on in order
to calculate the experimental moment of inertia for the ring. In the next step, the theoretical moment of
inertia was calculated for the disk by using equation 2.
I_disk^th=1/2 M_d R_d^2 (2)
In the equation above, the I_disk^th is the theoretical moment of inertia of the disk, M_d is the mass
of the disk, Rd is the radius of the disk. Next, the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring was
calculated using equation 3 below.
I_ring^th=1/2 M_r (R_1^2+R_2^2) (3)
In the equation above, I_ring^this the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring, Mr is the mass of the
ring, R_1^2 is the inner radius of the ring, and R_2^2 is the outer radius of the ring. In order to
compare the experimental and theoretical moments of inertia of the Ring, the experimental moment of
inertia of the ring alone has to be calculated. It is given that the experimental moment of the system
equals to the experimental moment of inertia of the ring plus the experimental moment of inertia of
the disk. The experimental moment of inertia can be found by solving

Film Conventions Of The Horror Genre
Insidious easily fits the film conventions of the horror genre and themes. Insidious incorporates classic
horror elements like haunted houses, ghosts, children being possessed, and outside experts of the
spiritual world. A family with three children start to witness things out of the ordinary and are unable
to understand what they are seeing. The mother, for instance, knew she was seeing strange deities, but
her husband refused to believe it and thought she was just out of it. The classic element of denying
there is anything out of the ordinary going on is a classic horror element. Typically the people who
deny the reality that there might be something supernatural happening, are the first people to be killed
or affected in some manner. The

The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC, was formed to help
the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under apartheid. It served many purposes
including: to allow individuals to find out the truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant
amnesty from the government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country
as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC trials were aired
nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to voice the accounts of violence
unleashed on them by the government and an opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The
reconciliation of South Africa was achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of
restoration.
The Gugulethu trial is a prime example of how forgiveness among individuals may be possible. As
seen in the courtroom screening scene of the hysterical mothers of the victims, these trials could be
very emotional for the families of the victims. Seven young men accused of being hostile terrorists
were gunned down by police officers. The explanation for the orders for shooting the young men were
because they appeared as threats to police as they attempted to arrest the men. When Mbelo confronts
the families, the mother s of the seven men initially reject his apology. However by the end of the
confrontation, one of the victim s son tells Mbelo that he forgives him. Christopher Mxinwa s

New Jersey And Southern States
For a few years , New Jersey and northeastern states have had very rough winters. There was one last
year in Hamilton Township, where school was canceled for almost a month because of the harsh
weather. This year, forecasters are predicting at least one to three feet of snow that will shut down
roads and schools for days. Even flights are affected by this storm, more than 6,500 flights in and out
of the region were canceled, and many of them may not take off again until Wednesday. New York
City s subways and buses planned to shut down completely by 11 p.m., and commuter railroads across
the Northeast also announced plans to stop running overnight, leaving workers to scramble to get
home before roads become impossible to drive on. Boston was expected to get 2 to 3 feet of snow,
New York 1 ½ to 2 feet, and Philadelphia more than a foot. The National Weather Service issues a
blizzard warning for a 250 mile swath for the region, meaning heavy, blowing snow and potential
white out conditions. Forecasters warned that the wind could gust to 75 mph or more along the
Massachusetts coast, and up to 50 mph farther inland. Authorities banned travel on all streets and
highways in New Jersey and New York City and Long Island and warned that violators could be fined
$300. Even food deliveries were off limits on the streets of takeout friendly Manhattan. Governors in
five states New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire declared

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Merger And Mergers
The deregulation of the economy has radically altered the business environment in India since 1991.
With the changes brought about in the economic policies and the introduction of new institutional
mechanisms has provided the corporate sector with huge opportunities to exploit the demands of the
huge Indian market. Mergers, acquisitions and amalgamations have become major means of
consolidation of the industry. The corporate sector in India currently is finding a sudden rush of
Mergers and Acquisitions and has very successfully swept all the industries. Managers nowadays
consider amalgamations and takeovers as very powerful weapons in their arsenal and a very essential

Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners
Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they have
committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are inhumane
because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before being convicted. I
m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a
little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think
that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside
which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of
right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in
prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a
phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be
reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also
think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve
some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners.
There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of the issues that guards may have with the
prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things.

Banning Book
Should books be banned? Books are a gateway to a world of imagination, but some schools are trying
to shut those gates off by banning them. Books are some of the best teachers left, it s not up to a
school to decide what a child should or should not read. Banning books can deprive a child of the
opportunity to think. Books should not be banned because of the lessons they can teach, the fact that a
school should not even be able to ban them, and it can deprive a child of the opportunity to think.
Books are some of the best teachers we have they teach us vocabulary social skills and new ways of
thinking (leigh). It s also true that textbooks could teach a child this, but not in the way they would
learn from a story. When a child is really engaged in a story they will learn a lot more than they think.

It is reasonable for a book to be banned if it is just not suitable for children as in its mature content.
But if a book is being banned because of a parent who does not like the book or thinks it is a touchy
subject, then it is just not reasonable and there should not even be a discussion about banning it.
Parents who don t like specific books can have their kids opt out of an assignment without infringing
on the rights of others. (www.procon.org/headline.php?headlineID=005365). There is no reason for a
parent to try to have a book banned because they do not like the content in the book. Also, the parent
can choose to have their child not read the book without having it banned from the whole school.
Parents should censor their own child and not the entire

  • 2. Integumentary System B5 Summarize the major functions of the integumentary system and give examples on how this system relates to at least two other organ systems. The 5 Major functions of the skin: 1. Protection o The integumentary system protects the human body in two ways physically and chemically.  Physically, keratinized epithelial cells (outermost layer of skin cells) act as a tough waterproof barrier. These keratinized cells are really good at protecting the body from water loss, mechanical and chemical injury, and keeping bacterial cells out of the body.  Chemically, a chemical barrier is formed by the production of acidic secretions by the sebaceous (oil) glands. The acidic environment inhibits bacterial growth. 2. Thermoregulation o The integumentary system helps to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...  The various wastes secreted by the integumentary system are cellular metabolic wastes, electrolytes, and excess water. 5. Synthesize Vitamin D3 o The integumentary system synthesizes vitamin D3 in the presence of sunlight.  In the presence of sunlight a sterol (7 Dehydrocholesterol) is converted to vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is needed for our bones and teeth to grow and is important in making certain types of antibodies. Vitamin D3 also plays an important role in the absorption of calcium for our bones. Relation to Skeletal System Skin protects the bones, but also synthesizes the vitamin D3 that bones need for normal calcium absorption and deposit of bone (calcium) salts, which make bones hard. Relation to Endocrine System Androgens produced by the endocrine system activate the sebaceous glands and help regulate hair growth; estrogen helps to maintain skin hydration. 3 Fun Facts 1. The thinnest skin is found on your eyelids 0.1mm thick, while the thickest skin is found on the bottom of your foot 2 3mm thick. 2. Scar tissue lacks hair and sweat glands 3. Not so fun fact Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Controversies Surrounding Classification of Disorders Essay Controversies Surrounding Classification Theories of Psychopathology HS513 T302 March 25, 2012 Abstract The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365 diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway, there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance. The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal, cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual. Instead of referring to someone as having an alcohol dependence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Anne Frank Childhood Anne Frank was a normal girl in a not so normal time period. She was born in a time of war and unjust, prejudice and racist thoughts. In a world of hate, she was able to keep her good spirit and faith in humanity until the end. Born June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, Annelise Marie Frank was the youngest in a family of four. A mother (Edith), a father (Otto) and a sister, (Margot) Anne seemed to have a pretty good life. She was a citizen of Germany until 1941 when the Nuremberg laws took effect. Her family moved to Amsterdam in the early 1930 s when Nazis gained control over Germany. When Anne turned 13, on June 12, 1942, she was given an autograph book. She decided to use it as a diary. In July of that year, Margot was called to a work camp. The family decided they would go into hiding. July 6, 1942. • 7. Similarities Between The Scottsboro Boys And To Kill A... The Scottsboro Trials Influence The Scottsboro trial of the 1930 s is still one of the most famous racial cases today. It impacted the legal system and changed the course of history for years to come. It has even influenced and inspired literary work such as Tom Robinson s case in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird. The similarities between the Scottsboro case and Tom Robinson s case heavily outweigh the differences. Thus it can be concluded that without the Scottsboro case To Kill a Mockingbird would not have the storyline readers know today. The Scottsboro trials began on March 25, 1931 in the town of Scottsboro, AL. The case consisted of 9 black boys being accused of raping 2 white women on a train they had been aboard. The boys accused, later known as the Scottsboro boys were Olen Montgomery, Clarence Norris, Haywood Patterson, Ozie Powell, Andy Wright, Roy Wright, Charles Weems, Eugene Williams and Willie Roberson, ranging in age from 12 to 20. The two white women claiming they were raped were Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. To Kill a Mockingbird, although written in 1960, takes place in the 1930 s during the Great Depression. The quiet town of Maycomb, in Alabama is disturbed when Mayella Ewell, a white woman, accuses Tom Robinson, a black man of raping her. The Scottsboro case is still one of the most famous cases from the Jim Crow era and it is clear that it influenced Tom Robinson s case. From just the foundations of the two cases it is obvious there are many parallels between them. The Scottsboro case and Tom Robinson s case both took place in the 1930 s during the Great Depression. Tom Robinson and the Scottsboro boys are also accused of the same crime. Although the Scottsboro case involves 9 boys and 2 women and the other case only includes 1 man and 1 woman it is clear what Harper Lee was trying to represent. In both cases there was an extreme lack of evidence, Ruby Bates testified that she was beaten and bruised by the repeated rapes and that she lost consciousness, regaining consciousness only when she found herself on the way to the Scottsboro jail. In fact, numerous witnesses and the arresting officers saw her fully conscious when she and the boys were taken off the train. The physician ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Benefits Of Canada s Double Trade Policy Although there will be agreement, the double trade policy is going to continue. The benefits of carrying out this trade is far outweigh the harm. David Watt, HSBC Canada chief economist, says that for Canada s heavily resource based economy, there are clear benefits to trade deals with a country that is likely going to be a key driver of commodity prices for the next 30 years. And it would be a huge mistake if Canada let this chance go. The government of Canada will support the policy. As a developing country, China has a large amount of resource demand. Since Canada is rich in natural resources, the increasing export will lead to the growth of Canada economic. We should see that as the trade policy continue, Canada export increase, and there will be higher net export, which means the increase of GDP. We can find exact evidence for this. The value of Canada s exports to China increased by 5.8% between 2012 and 2013, while the value of Canada s imports from the country grew by 4.0%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The U.S. goods trade deficit with Canada was $ 15 billion in 2015, a 57.1% decrease ($ 20 billion) over 2014. The total value of export trade is less than the total value of imports, which means to spend more foreign exchange for imports, and cause the reduce of foreign exchange reserves. • 10. Henry David Thoreau And Transcendentalism Henry David Thoreau was a leading transcendentalist. He was most known for his essays, with the major themes focusing on nature and government. His works weren t highly appreciated during his lifetime, but as years went on they became very influential. He was one of the first environmentalists, and he laid the groundwork for a lot of progressive movements. Henry David Thoreau was born on July 12, 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts. In 1833 he started studying at Harvard college, till 1837. He studied rhetoric, the classics, philosophy, mathematics, and science. Thoreau didn t like the idea of traditional professions, so in 1835 he took a break from Harvard to teach. When he went back to Harvard, he refused to pay the five dollar fee for his diploma. After he graduated, he started teaching at a public school in Canton, Massachusetts. He quit a few weeks after starting because he refused to use capital punishment on his students. In 1838, he and his brother, John, opened a grammar school. This school was extremely progressive for its time; they would take nature walks and bring their students to local shops and businesses. The school closed in 1842 when John died. Shortly after college, Thoreau met Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson took a great interest in Thoreau and opened him up to amazing opportunities. Emerson introduced him to some of the most influential people of the time; Ellery Channing, Margaret Fuller, Bronson Alcott, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. In 1842, Thoreau moved in ... • 11. Refashions The Torah s Narrative Into A Confessional Book The Zohar refashions the Torah s narrative into a mystical novel. On one level, the biblical heroes are the protagonist, and the rabbis interpret their words, their personalities, and their encounters with holy or demonic forces. The commentary is often far removed from the literal meaning of the biblical text. The words of Torah are a starting point, a springboard for the imagination. At times the commentators become the main characters, and we read about dramatic study sessions with Rabbi Shim on or about the rabbis adventures on the road. Moses remained in Guadalajara until at least 1291, and from there he began circulating the Zohar. He did not distribute entire copies of the book, just portions. This is indicated in the diary of Isaac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the Sef ha Zohar written mainly between 1280 and 1286 by Moses b. Shem Tov de Leon in Guadalajara, a small town northeast of Madrid. In this city there also lived two kabbalist brothers, Isaac and Meir b. Solomon ibn Sahula, and it is in Isaac s books that the first quotations are found from the earliest stratum of the Zohar, dating from 1281. Many kabbalists were active at this time in the small communities around Toledo, and there is evidence of mystical experience even among the unlearned. An example of this is the appearance as a prophet in Avila in 1295 of Nissim b. Abraham, an ignorant artisan, to whom an angel revealed a Kabbalistic work, Pil ot ha Hokhmah, and who was opposed by Solomon b. Abraham Adret. This was the community where Moses de Leon passed the last years of his life. The Zohar is the most important evidence for the stirring of a mythical spirit in medieval Judaism. The origin of the book, its literary and religious character, and the role that it has played in the history of Judaism, have been subjects of prolonged argument among scholars during the analysis. In an analysis of this kind we can establish a precise place for the Zohar so doing we must resist continually recurring apologetic attempts to antedate its composition by turning its late literary sources into evidence for the earlier existence of the book, or by proclaiming ancient strata in it. The mingling of these two currents the Kabbalah of Gerona and the Kabbalah of the Gnostics of Castile became in the mind of Moses de Leon a creative encounter which determined the basic character of the Zohar. Instead of the brief allusions and interpretations of his predecessors he presents a broad canvas of interpretation and homiletics covering the whole world of Judaism as it appeared to him. With regards to the mass amounts of research put in over the six decades, one might think that researches have concluded a clear answer to the question, do the benefits out weight the possible consequences? Scholarly sources suggest that fluoridation of public water does, in fact, significantly lower dental caries in both adolescents and adults, but also suggest this is not the only, nor the most globally beneficial, solution to the problem. Though fluoridation of public water sources is supported by major organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), it is abandoned and neglected by citizens who fear its potential side effects. In countries that do not fluoridate drinking water, such as Denmark and Italy, fluoridated toothpastes account for more than 90% of the sales of toothpaste products (Botchey, 48). Author Andrew W. Campbell supports fluoridated toothpaste as the most successful form of fluoridation based off the conclusions stated in the National Research Council s 2006 study on fluoride and the following statement made by the Dental Clinics of North America. Current evidence strongly suggests that fluorides work primarily by topical means through direct action on the teeth and dental plaque. Thus ingestion of fluoride is not essential for caries prevention (Campbell, 9). Concluding his argument he states that it is becoming increasingly clear, fluoridating public water supplies is outdated and unnecessary... (Campbell, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. John Donne Holy Sonnets Essay John Donne Death is a very complicated subject that people view very differently in different situations. In John Donne s Holy Sonnets, he writes about death in Meditations X and XVII. Both meditations use many similar rhetorical devices and appeals, but the tones of the meditations are very disparate. Donne s different messages in Meditations X and XVII convey tones of defiance and acquiescence towards death, respectively. His apparent change of attitude towards death could be accounted for by his differing life situations while he was writing the meditations: mid life, and near death. Meditation X , which Donne wrote in mid life, has a very defiant and powerful tone. Donne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Meditation XVII Donne uses logos to show how death is an omnipresent, omnipotent entity. His repetition and emphasis of bells, which symbolize death, are reminders of how death is everywhere: bells are everywhere, therefore death is everywhere. The rhetorical devices in each of Donne s meditations do not differ much, but they create very different tones. Allusion in both meditations to the Bible has different effects on the audience. In Meditation X death is referred to as thou which alludes to the Bible which constantly uses thou when God refers to human beings. This allusion is a further demonstration of Donne s feelings of superiority over death. In Meditation XVII death is referred to as being an extension of God himself, which is an extreme opposite from death s position in Meditation XVII , and which works to create the more acquiescent and passive tone. Relatively, both meditations appeal to the audience s values of religion and God by referring to the Bible. Irony is employed by Donne in order to set the overall tone of the meditations. The irony in Meditation X is that in the end, Death, thou shalt die (Donne). This poetic justice follows the theme of Meditation X in its defiance against the forces of nature, and ultimately identifies the tone of recalcitrance. The irony of Meditation XVII is that death is our onely securitie, which does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. How Does Oil Affect Our Lives Depend On Oil Introduction Most people probably do not think about how much of their lives depend on oil. This profitable commodity is constantly being used around the world, twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. From the scented creams people use on their bodies, to the airline jets soaring above, oils are being used. Oil is one of three major forms of fossil fuels, coal and natural gas being the rest. Fossil fuels began forming millions of years ago in the Carboniferous Period when trees, plants, and small organisms died (DOE, 2015). Eventually the fossils sank to the bottom of many swamps and oceans forming layers of peat (a brown, soil like, and spongy material). Over thousands of years, peat was covered by clay, sand, and other minerals which turned into a type of rock called sedimentary. Over thousands of years rocks piled on top of the peat creating more pressure. Eventually the pressure managed to squeeze water out of the peat and over millions of years, this mineral rich water turned into the three major fossil fuels that people know and use today (DOE, 2015). Regardless of its proficiency and success, the oil industry has become one of the most unethical businesses in the world. Their blatant disregard for the environment and its inhabitants have continuously put them in the crosshairs of many conservatives and concerned citizens. This paper primarily focuses on the ethical dilemmas that surround the oil industry. Teapot Dome: A Sign of Things to Come? In the early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bruce Dawe s Poetry Several poems by Bruce Dawe surround the subject of loneliness and oppression, a matter that many people face in today s society and also a matter that relates to his interests; his fascination with the underdog character and how he provides a voice for certain individuals. The Raped Girl s Father , The Family Man and The Sadness of Madonnas are three poems by Bruce Dawe that relate to the themes, portraying realism in how loneliness and oppression affect people in the world. However, Socrates discredited this, However, not one of these things is true; nor, if you have heard from anyone that I attempt to teach men and require payment, is this true. (Plato, n.d.). The gingiva can be demarcated into several zones at the macroscopic (as perceived by the unaided eye) and the microscopic levels according to anatomy or/ and function. 2.3.1.2.1 Oral mucosa at the macroscopic level The normal healthy appearance of the gingiva is coral pink with a scalloped coronal border known as the free gingival margin. The free gingival margin is approximately located 1.5 to 2 mm coronal to the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) in healthy fully erupted teeth [204]. On the other end, the gingiva becomes continuous with the loose, red lining mucosa known as the alveolar mucosa . The alveolar mucosa differs in colour since it has a thin non keratinized epithelium and loose connective tissues that contain numerous blood vessels but no rete pegs. Initially, the government struggled with this balance. What brought these laws on in the rst place was the lack of balance; security dominated privacy during the Vietnam War to an unacceptable point. The PATRIOT Act was passed almost instantaneously, trading American freedoms for the sake of national security. The controversial act was a response for the panic stricken Americans, and was the government s way of assuring another attack would not happen. Across the ocean, western Europe was also caught up in the turmoil. How ever, wiretapping was already commonplace, and did not need an act like the PATRIOT Act to grant the necessary permissions. Instead, the European Union took a di erent approach. They began to record and keep track of the comings and goings of their citizens, storing all the data, in the event that it might prove useful in the future. However, the fear did not last forever. As time went on, the immediate threat began to fade. With the diminishing threat, the need to sacri ce privacy for protection ebbed as well, leaving only public backlash in its wake. The European Union s Data Retention Directive has come under re for it, as well at the PATRIOT Act in the United States. So the government tried again, with the Protect America Act. Summary Of False Confessions Klaver, Lee, and Rose (2008) conducted a laboratory experiment that investigated individual and situational factors and gender and ethnicity, that may contribute to false confessions behaviour and internalization rates. Individual factors include the impact of personality variables and the effects of compliance, interrogative suggestibility, self esteem and locus of control (p.75). While, situational factors include the plausibility of allegations and interrogative technique used. The participants were two hundred and nineteen undergraduate students, from eighteen to forty five years old, who all received course credit for their participation. Written in 1916 by Susan Glaspell the play narrates the story of Minnie Foster and the serious of events that led her to murdering her husband. Symbols such as the house, a canary and a birdcage are applied to significantly emphasize Minnie Foster isolation. The house is a major symbol. Even though the home is the closest to town, it is located down in a hollow and can not been seen from the road. Trifles focuses on the death of an oppressive husband at the hand of his emotionally abused wife in an isolated and remote farm in the midwest. Mrs. Hale compres Minnie to a canary She was kind of like a bird herself real sweet and pretty, but kind of timid and fluttery (Glaspell 1011) Birds are a symbol of freedom. They are meant to fly and be in constant movement. Their spirits are wild, and can not be contained. Their home is the endless skies and the comforts of the clouds. The comparison is ironic since Minnie Foster s spirit is isolated and has been contained in a unpleasant marriage. Glaspell paint quickly establishes that the canary symbolizes the particular cheerful side of Mrs. Wright destroyed by the oppression of her marriage. (Sutten 170 178) Canaries are full of life and brightness. After her marriage the oppression of her husband has killed her cheerful side and raped her of her life. Once the children have been identified, they need to have an adequate program to aid in their cognitive growth. The majority of gifted children are placed into the general education, leading to boredom. As they understand concepts faster, especially abstract, boredom sets in as the children continuously have to wait for their peers to catch up. Programs need to be made for them, as they are the future. They will aid in the development and continuation of America, far more than the average child. Several methods can be applied to a gifted program to keep the children engaged and their minds simulated. Acceleration and Enrichment are two options, with the accelerated program having the greatest positive feedback. Acceleration allows for the child to learn at a rapid pace, depending on them not their peers, while enrichment is the addition of supplement information or reading (Subotnik). Many programs in place presently have an accelerated program, but many are still too slow or parents have no knowledge of it. The programs also puts less stress on the general education teachers, especially if they don t know how to handle these students. Teachers within the program should be specialized in dealing with the gifted, allowing for a better understanding and connection between the student and teacher. And as all gifted students are different, the teachers need to be slightly flexible, but still continue along the accelerated path. The program needs to placed everywhere, and allow equal chance for everyone to get in. Many argue against these types of programs, as they make clear the separation between the elite and average (Winner). In the next step, the theoretical moment of inertia was calculated for the disk by using equation 2. I_disk^th=1/2 M_d R_d^2 (2) In the equation above, the I_disk^th is the theoretical moment of inertia of the disk, M_d is the mass of the disk, Rd is the radius of the disk. The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC, was formed to help the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under apartheid. It served many purposes including: to allow individuals to find out the truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant amnesty from the government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC trials were aired nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to voice the accounts of violence unleashed on them by the government and an opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The reconciliation of South Africa was achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of restoration. I m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to.
