Youth Reflection Paper
Even in 2017 social injustice is very real. Many before have taken measures against this issue,
but it s still there. Over the past couple of week s, I ve taken notice to the events that have been
going on in the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. It occurred to
me that many of the oppressors committing social injustices were victims themselves. They were
not properly educated when they were younger. Growing up thinking something is right your
whole life is hard to change. So, I knew that s where I would start. The youth is the future and
should be an improvement from the previous generation. I ve been fortunate enough to experience
different cultures, and people my whole life. From going to Laotian New Year, to participating in
Muslim community programs, etc. the list goes on. Also, I have Black, White, Indian, and; Asian,
Arabic, Hispanic, and Native American friends. Who I learn from every day. So, how do I give
others the education and lessons that I ve been taught? While I was doing my government
homework about labor unions it hit me! The definition of a union is, an organized association of
workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests. What better way to promote social
injustice then to have an organization of likeminded, diverse individuals. Directed at the youth of
the world, this organization would be comprised of teens. Through my various connections I would
gather a group of individuals from all different walks

WAP Gateway WAP does not offer end to end security. WAP contraptions talk with web servers

Brain Acquired Brain Injury
The brain is vital to the functioning of every human being. After studying the brain for a whole
semester, it made me realize how important it is to keep the brain health and protected. God made
human being very complex, and trying to understand how each organ relates to each other has been
a challenge for anyone in the medical field. Each year, new techniques are discovered as to what,
where and how the human brainoperates. There are discoveries made in the medical field everyday

Folliculogenesis Essay
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to inform on the topic of folliculogenesis, how it occurs, and its role in
reproduction.
Introduction
Folliculogenesis is the production of follicles in the ovaries of female reproductive system.
Every month females go through their ovarian cycle, in which the ovaries produce follicles that
help to carry out the egg cell necessary for reproduction. This egg cell is carried out to be
fertilized by a sperm cell received from males during sexual intercourse. If the egg cell is not
fertilized by the sperm cell, then the female ends up going through the menstrual cycle in which the
egg is expelled and the monthly bleeding begins and persists its monthly course. The topic of
folliculogenesis may be overlooked, but when researching about the topic it is seen how important
this cycle is in reproduction. This cycle lays out the platform for reproduction every month, without
this cycle the proper hormones would not be able to be produced in the system.
Stages of Folliculogenesis
The ovarian cycle in a normal female occurs every month that lasts for a total of 28 days. The
first stage of folliculogenesis is the primordial follicles, this is when the ovaries produce the first
follicles at day zero. Each follicle consists of an egg cell with granulosa cells around it. The job of
the granulosa cells is to nourish the egg cell and help it travel through the ovary until fertilization.
In the next stage of folliculogenesis the primordial follicles

Comparing Song Of Songs And Sappho s Love Poems
Both the Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems stem from the core concept of the overall
intimacy and indescribable nature of love. Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty
of nature and the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific
context of love. The Songof Songs covers what would be today called the honeymoon phase where
the loveis sweet, perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side
of love, focused on entrapment, and overall heartbreak. These differences create completely
different stories of love, one of life long happiness, and one of chasing love. The Song of Songs
develops a theme of love with its use of naturalistic comparisons. Throughout the song, both the

the same comparisons used in the Song of Songs, seemingly for the same purpose; to paint a
picture of love. Under the surface though, Sappho is painting a beautiful picture of love to win
over the help of Aphrodite to help satisfy her need for a fulfilling love, as is a common theme in
her poems. Present in both Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems, is the comparison of the
rushing feeling of love to a stream of water, a protective, but fruitful apple tree, all placed within a
pleasant garden. The stream in the Song of Songs is a spring shut up (132), representing a love that
wishes to flow/be consummated, but ultimately cannot because of societal limitations, whereas

The House of Seven Gables as a Gothic Novel Essay
The House of Seven Gables as a Gothic Novel
To be a paradigm of a Gothic novel, The House of Seven Gables needs to include many elements,
all which center on the ideas of gloom, horror, and mystery. The action of a Gothic novel takes
place in a run down, abandoned or occupied, mansion or castle, which often include secret passages,
doors, and compartments (Encarta). The mansion also adds its own flavor and variety to the
atmosphere of mystery and suspense in the novel by providing a dark and gloomy setting where
the story takes place. The basis of mystery and suspense in the atmosphere of the novel feeds off of
an unexplained or supernatural event in the present or from past generations (Harris). The

The inclusion of the elements of suspense, mystery, and gloom in a novel, along with the
occurrence of supernatural and unexplained events, provide support for the novel as a Gothic piece
of literature. By including all the elements, which standardize the content and atmosphere of the
novel in the The House of Seven Gables, Nathaniel Hawthorne develops an exemplary example of
a Gothic piece of literature.
To be considered a Gothic novel, The House of Seven Gables needs to first fulfill the requirements
of the setting, including a once aristocratic run down mansion or castle with many secret doors,
passages, and compartments. The elements in the setting produce effects in the development of the
mysterious and gloomy atmosphere. In the early years of the Pyncheon family, Colonel Pyncheon
steals the domicile and land of Mathew Maule out of greed and fulfillment of his superiority as an
aristocrat. Colonel Pyncheon constructs the House of Seven Gables on Pyncheon Street, over the
grave of the restless Mathew Maule, inheriting the curse of death within its walls. The anathema of
death Mathew Maule sentences the residents House of Seven Gables to results in a scarcity of
inhabitants, due to the fear for their lives, and therefore the house becomes extremely dark and
lonesome to the later generations. The lack of denizens to upkeep the house results in the house
itself showing the signs of the melancholy and gloom it contains, mirroring the

Self harm is a growing and troubling trend. It s a frightening disorder, most common among
women, where hurt and alienation are expressed by injuring oneself. There are several kinds of self
harm. Self mutilation and various eating disorders are among the most common forms of self

How Does L1 Support Literacy In L2
In this paper, I will discuss definitions of literacy, review research related to the transfer of

explore instructional practices implemented as L1 is transferred to L2 knowledgebase. As learning
practices for L1 and L2 are outlined, cognates of L2 will be demonstrated in this paper for further

Literacy in L1 can support literacy in L2 in a variety of ways. Many researchers and practitioners
in ESL/Bilingual Education or ESL/BE are aware of research evidence which supports such
transfer, but research is not always applied to practice. According to Roberts (1994), literacy in L1
supports L2 by being able to transfer the teachings to L2 students. Research shows that knowledge
of alphabets and awareness of phonological can an are strong predictors of literacy development in
children being successful (Ford, K.2005).
Lee Schaller s (1997) quantitative study examined the relationships between ELL students who
demonstrated a level of proficiency compared to ELL students basic reading skills. The study
(1997) tested two hypotheses to check reliability and validity; the hypotheses were examined
from the following: (1) a foundation of language proficiency showed learners with below
average levels in L2 proficiency showed little relationship between their L1 and L2 reading
ability whereas learners with above average in L2 proficiency demonstrated a positive
relationship between their L1 and L2 reading abilities.(b) The benefit of L2 proficiency was
higher than the benefit of L1 reading ability in predicting L2 reading ability. In addition, Schaller
Lee s (1997) study showed a correlation between the two hypotheses. For example, when L2
learners obtain previous knowledge from L1 experiences, their reading skills can potentially

Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster
A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British
colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is
extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s
the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the
novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and
historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One
event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and
after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean
time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of
segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a
problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. In every culture
, civilization, habitat, or locality, there is, or has been, some form of discrimination at hand. From
what I ve experienced, I believe it is solely based off of change of normality. For instance, when
British colonists first arrived in the New World, Native Americans had already owned the land. To
the natives, this flood of immigrants was their cultural change. Had they not all been massacred and

Les Miserables at Imperial Theater Essay
Les Miserables Play
A few weeks ago, I had a chance to watch Les Miserables at Imperial Theater. Les Miserables is
play based on Victor Hugo s award winning novel. I must admit that the play made me realize the
great stories that will continue be told in mass media for years to come. Much to my astonishment,
the characters in the play essentially delivered a great show, ranging from their acting to their
singing.
I believe that Les Miserables is one of the most intricate stories with a plot featuring heroic life of a
simple and good man, Jean Valjean, a role performed in the play by Matt Kinley. The original novel
to which the play was based on has been my personal favorite since it portrays its lead actor as a
morally upright person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The members of the orchestra were dressed in button down and a tie, and dress coats, while ladies
wore uniform dresses based on the culture that existed during the writing of the novel by Hugo.
The play attracted an audience of almost a thousand, majority of which were senior adults who
wanted to see how the young generation could bring out the concepts of Hugo s novel into
action. A good number of the poorer audience members were allowed to pay a few bucks to stand
in front of the stage while the affluent majority sat on the covered galleries, paying twice as much
as the poor audience for their seats. I could realize that the attendance was beyond the expectations
of the play s organizer because most people complained about missing a ticket to watch it.
The play was so well done, and the opening section was somewhat grand considering the fact that
actors and actresses played their part and portrayed the characters in a way I could really relate to. I
have always like live performances, and one thing the producer of Les Miserables introduced was
the orchestra switch their voices between prerecorded and live scenes, this gave the play a sense of
immediacy and power.
With this I mind, I noticed that staging a play doesn t have to be about the exact plat or characters
of its original

Treaty Of Versailles Essay
The Versailles treaty was the peace settlement between Germany and the Allied powers that
eventually ended world war one. Even Though it ended this war the treaty of Versailles was hated
by many American and Germany. Germany made many threats to the Allied powers. The passing
of the Treaty of Versailles resulted in unpopular backlash from both Germany and America.
France, Italy, Britain and the U.S. met at the Capitol to talk about the terms of peace for the post
war. Germany thought this was unfair due to the fact they were not able to attend this talk. The
Allied powers told Germany to just sign the treaty and they did not need to know what it was

the Versailles treaty. These three men were complicated and hard to work work with. According
to Chris truman, David Lloyd George had two view on how Germany should be treated. If
George showed any signs of weakness towards Germany he would have quickly been voted out
of office. Hang the Kaiser and make Germany pay were two very common quotes in the time of
the versailles treaty. George was concerned about communism rising in Russia and had thoughts
that it might spread to western Europe. George felt that Germany was the only thing that could
stop communism if it spread into Russia. Georges Clemenceau says Germany should be brought
to its knees so she can never start war again. The is his only view according to Chris Truman.
Woodrow Wilson had been shocked by the devastation from the Great War. Wilson wanted to
leave Europe to its on and to concentrate on U.S. instead of worrying about everyone else. He
wanted to keep all input in and out of Russia to a minimum. The Treaty of Versailles was a very
unfair document towards Germany. According to Mike Dowling, the treaty had taken away
Germany s overseas colonies and their coal source. Germany could not build large ships and their
army was a joke.

Over the course of history, since the beginning of time, animals have been resources for humans as
transportation, labor for food production and harvest, protection from danger, food, skins for

Blue Dolphins, Lassie, and Winnie the Pooh just to name a few. Major motion pictures have been
created from novels celebrating these unique relationships with animals like Costner and Wilson s

Reading with Rover is a community based literacy program that takes place in libraries, schools,

child readers experienced from reading to the dogs. They reported an increase in children s

success should not have come as a surprise to me considering that much of recent research has

As I investigated further, I found that research specifically makes connections to the positive

associations occur both in life in general and specifically academically. Young children often

Establishing presence in new markets with different cultural orientations is also not easy and there
is need for different marketingstrategies. Typical of global marketing, Avon has to be aware of the
different rules and regulations imposed by all its different markets prior to doing business (Daniels,

Word of mouth from previous customers helps to introduce the products to others friends, families,

meet local needs enables customers to consider their needs fulfilled, further promoting Avon s brand

in 1902 in order to manage water resources in the area. During this period, water from the Sierra

Did Marco Polo Go To China Case Study
Did Marco Polo go to China? This question has been debated for years, since his book came out
in the 1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While
others, like Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which
story is the correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off
stories he heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polodid in fact make it to China.
In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26
years. As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease
opportunities. Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the
mountains of what is present day Afghanistan for close to a year. After almost 4 years of
traveling the Polo s made it to China to the summer palace of the Great Khan Kublai. Over the
years spent in China, Marco was promoted to governor of a great Chinese city, Hangzhou, and
even held an official seat on the Khan s Privy Council. He spent 16 years in China before his
family convinced Khan Kublai to release them from under his rule. However, before they could
return home they had to deliver a Mongol Princess to King Arghun of Persia along the way. After a
harsh journey, only 18 out of the 600 crew and passengers survived, including the Polos and the

The TSA was tasked with the tremendous challenge of building a large federal agency responsible
for securing all modes of transportation. Funding for the TSA is accomplished by a $2.50 charge
per flight segment not to exceed $10.00 round trip, per customer. The mission as described by the
TSA website (www.tsa.gov) is as follows, The Transportation Security Administration protects the
Nation s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce. The
vision of the TSA is, The Transportation Security Administration will continuously set the standard
for excellence in transportation security through its people, processes and technologies. The TSA
also states that its values are to have excellence in public service through: integrity, innovation, and
teamwork.
As with any government organization the TSA has taken much criticism on its security practices.
However, one must keep in mind that this administration is still in the beginning stages, and
much is still to be learned from the mistakes that have been made thus far. The TSA employees a
work force of over 50 thousand federal passenger and baggage screeners at 429 commercial service
airports. Out of those 429 airports five have been chosen to be part of a pilot program. In this
program the five commercial service airports that were chosen can hire their own passenger and
baggage screeners, after a

Equilibrium Lab Report
g Kim Chem 127 Ian Shaw November 30, 2015 Equilibrium Lab Objective: The goal of the
equilibrium lab is to discover the equilibrium constant for the reaction SCN and Fe3+. In addition,
this lab introduced the concepts of Le Chatelier s principle and reintroduced Beer s Law. In
addition, this experiment used the spectrophotometry to measure the equilibrium concentrations of
FeSCN2+. Introduction: Equilibrium is vital in understanding numerous chemical reactions
fluctuating from producing or reducing chemical molecules to preserving the pH in our blood.
Synthesizing chemical reactions also allow scientists to discovery new molecules for human
advancement. Equilibrium is a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced. This is

The key objective of this particular reaction was to relate Le Chatelier s principle and Beer s Law
to discover the equilibrium constant and absorptivity. Le Chatelier declares that if a reaction s
conditions are altered, the equilibrium of the reaction will shift in order to reach equilibrium and be
balanced. During this experiment, whenever a solution was added or mixed at different values, the
equilibrium of the equation was shifted to make more product or reactant (depending on where you
add/mix). The spectrophotometer showed students the hue of the solution thus as a darker color,
more product was shown and the absorptivity varied. In this experiment, many errors came up. With
that being said, errors relating to the spectrophotometer was the main cause of wrong readings and
improper data. In addition to mechanical error, human error like mixing the wrong chemicals
together could have drastically altered the results and data. Conclusion: The spectrophotometry was
key in finding the value for the equilibrium for FeSCN2+, Fe3+, and SCN . Le Chatelier s principle
and Beer s law was used to calculate the molar absorptivity constant for FeSCN2+. In order to
understand part two, the concentration had to be known to calculate the unknown concentrations of
FeSCN2+. In the end, the results in the experiment show that the greater the concentration in the

Truss Design
Before the beginning of the 19th century, building structures were only thought of as assembled
constructs. Where the design and aesthetic of them were dictated by the utilization and boundary
conditions. Towards the start of the 19th century, the knowledge and understanding of engineers
changed due to the establishment of technical colleges around the world. When sciencefound its
way into the building practice, there was a shift initiated that, besides some other technical
innovations, also brought a whole new view of structures and how they were developed (Rinke and
Kotnik 2010). A more science based view on the structural aspects of truss design marks the
transition from a craftsmanship orientated construction to a theory oriented construction. This made
the design of trusses and all structures more rational, systematic and highly efficient.
The general triangular shape of a truss has been in use since man has used lumber for
construction of structures. The origin of the triangular shapes of a truss stem from early roof
design, when wooden roofs were constructed in a triangular shape. Within the triangular frame, a
post was placed in the midspan of the bottom member of the frame which connected to the peak
of the angled member on the top (see Figure 1.) If the roof had a wider span or lower pitch, rafter

His theory maintains that the truss is a structure that represents beam behaviour. Generally,
Culmann considers every connection of the members in a truss flexible (basically a hinge) and
formulates equilibrium equations at the point where members meet (Culmann 1851). Nowadays,
this theory is known as the Method of Joints and is regularly used to calculate the internal forces in
each member of the truss. Armed with a method to calculate the forces in the members of a truss,
engineers optimized the design of trusses through addition and variation of

A Nutty Idea Worksheet Analysis
For the A Nutty Idea worksheet, I had to convert the ingredients from a the Turtle Sundae Mix the
Banana Split Mix. The ingredients and measurements basically stays the same except for the
measurement of Pecans and Rainbow Sprinkles on the new Banana Split Mix. I am given the
measurements for each ingredient that make up the 6 oz bag of Turtle Sundae Mix; but, the units
are not all the same. So, first, I have to convert each ingredient measurement to ounce before I can
move on to solve the problem. The measurement for the Chocolate covered peanuts is given in
ounce already, 1.5 oz. So I didn t have to do anything to this. The second item is a ratio of 1:8

The instruction says that the Salted Caramel will be substituted with Banana Chips and that the
Pecans from the previous packaging will now be 1/5 less that the original measurement for the
new packaging. It also states the Rainbow Sprinkles measurement will be the remaining ounces
that is unaccounted for to make the total 6 oz. All the other ingredient measurements stay the
same except for Pecan and Rainbow Sprinkles. So what I did was I used the fraction form of the
Pecan and subtracted 1/5 from it. My equation was 3/20 1/5, which became 3/20 4/20. The
answer I got was 1/20 or 0.05. This means that the amount of Pecans in the new Banana Split Mix
will be zero because the answer is a negative number. I then added all the measurements together
and subtracted it from the total 6 oz to get the amount of Rainbow Sprinkles. My equation was 1.5
oz + 0.19 oz + 0.57 oz 0.05 + 2.82 = 5.03 oz. Then I subtracted this number from the 6 oz. My
equations was 6 oz 5.03 oz = 0.97oz. This is the unit amount of Rainbow Sprinkles that will be in

The Theory Of Inclusive Fitness
An oxymoron appeared to exist between Darwin s theory of natural selection (1859) and the
definition of altruism (West et al., 2006). Hamilton s theory of inclusive fitness (1964) appeared to
mediate this problem. However, the theory does not explain altruistic acts towards non kin in line
with natural selection. Reciprocal altruism(Trivers, 1971), indirect altruism (Alexander, 1987) and
strong reciprocity (Gintis, 2000) have been proposed to resolve this conflict. It is of note that
behaviour in all theories has been noted in animals, but will not be discussed further. Instead, the
essay will focus on which theories are most relevant when understanding human sociality, with the
author explaining why no sole theory is seen to describe the phenomenon. All theories will be
discussed in relation to evolutionary stable strategies (ESS), which refers to plans that when
adopted by a majority of members in a population that restrict any other action existing, which could
yield higher reproductive success (Smith Price, 1973).
Darwin s (1859) theory of natural selection hypothesised that individual s with traits that increased
their chance of survival would be more likely to reproduce. Such fitness enhancing genes would
thus be passed to their offspring, increasing the trait s frequency in a population. Altruism thus
appears to be an oxymoron to Darwin s (1859) theory. West et al. (2006) defined such social
behaviour that reduces an actor s fitness but increases the

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world. Indeed. It is

Margaret Mead
In the past 25 years, the concept of organizational culture has gained wide recognition as a way to
understand human systems.
The culture of a group can now be defined as: A pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group

well enough to be considered valid and therefore, to be taught to new members as the correct way
to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those problems. В№ (Schein 373 374)

FDI in Real Estate of India and China Essay
FDI in Real Estate of India and China
FDI refers to the investment made by a foreign individual or company in productive capacity of
another country for example, the purchase or construction of a factory. FDI also refers to the
purchase of a controlling interest in existing operations and businesses (known as mergers and
acquisitions). Multinational firms seeking to tap natural resources, access lucrative or emerging
markets, and keep production costs down by accessing low wage labour pools in developing
countries are FDI investors.

application of FDI for sustainable objectives is crucial to push the debate forward. Various
international fora and discussion have outlined a range of positive and negative aspects of FDI as
a source of development for developing countries, some of which are discussed below.
1. Stimulation of national economy
FDI is thought to bring certain benefits to national economies. It can contribute to Gross
Domestic Product (GDP), Gross Fixed Capital Formation (total investment in a host economy)
and balance of payments. There have been empirical studies indicating a positive link between
higher GDP and FDI inflows (OECD a.), however the link does not hold for all regions, e.g. over
the last ten years FDI has increased in Central Europe whilst GDP has dropped. FDI can also
contribute toward debt servicing repayments, stimulate export markets and produce foreign
exchange revenue.
Subsidiaries of Trans National Corporations (TNCs), which bring the vast portion of FDI, are
estimated to produce around a third of total global exports. However, levels of FDI do not
necessarily give any indication of the domestic gain (UNCTAD 1999). Corporate strategies e.g.
protective tariffs and transfer pricing can reduce the level of corporate tax received by host

Leonardo Da Vinci Essay
Where and when was Leonardo Da Vinci born? Where there any persons or events in his early

April 15th 1452 in Vinci, near Florence Italy. His father, Piero Da Vinci, was a notary, and
mother Caterina was a peasant girl. Soon after his birth Piero Da Vinci took custody of Leonardo
because his mother left and married another man in a nearby town. At the age of 15 his father got

Upper House Case Study
It is very evident that Queensland does not have to reinstate an upper house to be an effect
government. This is due to that the original upper house was unable to do its job effectively of
reviewing and negotiating laws and bills. Especially amending money bills that the lower house
passed, due to that its members came from elitist group of wealth and education (Queensland
Parliament, 2010). This elitist upper house resulted in a lacked of diversity, therefore laws that
where made for working class Queenslanders, were rarely passed. Another large benefit of not
having an upper house is that the lower house can debate and process new bills effectively, due to
not having an upper house which can delay bills by up to 6 months. This cuts out the process of
being of going through another house, therefore responding to society as quickly as it changes
(Inside Story, 205). Also the reintroduction of the upper house would also be a costly burden on
society, with the government having to potentially cut representatives in the lower house to
compensate for the new senators (Inside Story, 2015). This cut to the lower house means that there
would be less representatives and more people they are having to represent, therefore missing out
on key minority groups opinions and beliefs in society. Therefore it is very clear that Queensland
has no need for an upper house, and that the state functions adequately without the overruling
power. References Inside Story. 2015. Should Queensland go back to the future? 2014. Accessed

The Curse Of The Pharaoh
THE CURSE OF THE PHARAOH S Among the world s most famous curses is the curse
pharaohs. King Tutankhamen ruled Egypt as pharaoh for ten years until his death at age nineteen,
around 1324 B.C. Although he was famous for reversing the tumultuous religious reforms of his
father, Pharaoh Akhenaten. Tutankhamen s legacy was largely negated by his heirs. He was
hardly known to the modern world until 1922, when British archaeologist Howard Carter carved
through a doorway and entered the boy pharaoh s tomb, which had remained sealed for more than
3,200 years. The tomb s vase store of artifacts and treasure, intended to accompany the king into the
afterlife, revealed an incredible amount about royal life in ancient Egypt, and quickly made King
Tut the world s most famous pharaoh. Until his tomb was opened and that started the curse of
pharaohs . What is the history behind the curse? Is it the curse real? Since the mid 20th century,
many authors and documentaries have argued that the curse is real in the sense of being caused by
scientifically reasonable causes such as bacteria or radiation. Yet, the modern origins of Egyptian

Freedom Of Rights
Tie up to other rights:
The freedom of speech and expression, is a right, which is directly or adjacently related to other
rights, imparting its limitations. These limitations are kept so as in the public interest. The right
to fair trial is nearly related to freedom of expression, as it also limits access to search for
information. The right to freedom of expression is actually important for the media or the printing
press, because these organizations are considered to be the Voice of People . The actual work of
the media is to awaken the people from wrongful justice.
The freedom of press is considered as the most valuable right in definitely a democratic society.
The freedom to press works upon the freedom of speech and expression, taking along the John
Milton s arguments of considering the access towards information and ideas. The media plays an
important factor in a democratic society, as it plays a special role as the barrier of the general right
in the freedom of expression.
There are also some criticisms regarding the right to freedom of press. Judith Litchenberg has
marked some circumstances in which freedom of press may restrain freedom of speech. For
example, ther s a condition where the press just crushes the information which is genuinely meant
to reach the public may get to the public which some or the other specimens in it. Judith argues
freedom of press as a simpler form summed up by the principle of No money, No voice .

Pride And Prejudice Comparative Essay
Austen s classic novel pride and prejudice (P P) and the film adaptation Maguire s romantic
comedy Bridget Jones Diary (BJD) show the transformation of societal expectations over time
whilst also revealing which ideals and values have remained the same.
The comparative texts use a variety of literary and film techniques to portray characters and stories
that relate to societal norms and the feminist of their time. Both heroines, Elizabeth Bennet and
Bridget Jones reject the idea of marrying without the presence of love with Elizabeth stating I am
determined that only the deepest love will induce me into matrimony. whilst also acknowledging
the importance of social class and rank. The key themes that are made present in both P P and BJD
all throughout the entirety are Love, Marriage and of course Pride and Prejudice.

Essay On John Calvin
The history of Geneva, Switzerland goes back centuries. After being dominated by Rome and
Burgundy, Geneva eventually became an independent city in the middle ages. John Calvin lead the
city into the Protestant Reformation, causing the city to become a major center for the spread of
Calvinism throughout Europe. The counts of Savoy asserted their sovereignty in Geneva in the
15th century, pushing the bishops out of control. The bishops made many attempts to overthrow the
counts, with little success. The counts of Savoy were successful in leadership and used force in
order to uphold their status in Geneva. Until 1522 they had their own family members serve as
bishop of Geneva.
When the last bishop fled from Geneva in 1533, they rid themselves of their bishop and their
allegiance to Savoy, and declared themselves a state. With the Savoy threatening to invade, the
Bernese offered to include Geneva into their government. Geneva had just recently become
independent and did not wish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everyone in Geneva was quick to adapt to Protestantism and the condition of the church in
Geneva was very unstable and disorganized when Calvin arrived. Under Calvin s leadership,
Geneva became a Christian republic on the model set out in his Institutes of the Christian
Religion. He took Luther s doctrine of salvation to its logical end, he believed that salvation
could not be obtained through good works and that salvation was not certain for anybody. He
developed the doctrine of predestination, arguing that God had ordained every man, woman, and
child to salvation or damnation even before the creation of the world. He believed that God only
saved a small group of people, called the elect. Some were completely terrified by the idea of
predestination, but others were inspired. An exemplary life could be a sign that a person had been
chosen for salvation, whether they participated in good works or

Total Compensation Is The Monetary And Nonmonetary Rewards
Total compensation is the monetary and nonmonetary rewards offered to employees. Therefore, this
can help the organization be effective or prevent it from being effective. Consequently, the purpose
of this paper is to briefly analyze the positive and negative effects of total compensation. Total
compensation influences productivity in numerous ways. For instance, compensation practices that
link pay to the company s financial performance or other indicators of productivity can help focus
employees attention on finding new ways to reduce costs and increase revenues (Jackson, S. E.,
Schuler, R. S., Werner, S. 2012). Two preferred ways employees contain cost is by changing the pay
mix and by emphasizing nonmonetary compensation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, this increases the talent pool and can make them an employer of choice among their
competition.
A total compensation system could prevent an organization from being effective in several ways;
for instance, if their total compensation package is not aligning with the employee needs, total
compensation influences employee attraction, motivation, and retention. However, the importance
of the various components depend on the person and his or her situation (Jackson, S. E., Schuler, R.
S., Werner, S. 2012). The compensation system within an organization should align to the overall
Business plan to achieve expected results. In other words, the total compensation includes: base
pay, performance based pay, benefits and services, and nonmonetary rewards. All of this together
should reach a balance; otherwise, the expected results would be devastating. During recession,
many Americans suffered, and the economy pressured many organizations to cut workers.
However, experts on the matter explain, In light of the massive number of layoffs, pay cuts look
like the more humane cost cutting tactic because they save jobs. UCLA management professor
David Lewin says a small reduction in pay, when handled carefully, can even foster a collegial
spirit during hard times. It sends a signal that no one is expendable, but everyone is valued. We all

The first Database Management System was developed in the late 1960 s by two firms based on

The Rise Of Ludwig Van Beethoven
The rise of Ludwig van Beethoven into the ranks of history s greatest composers was paralleled
by and in some ways a consequence of his own personal tragedy and despair. Beginning in the
late 1790 s, the increasing buzzing and humming in his ears sent Beethoven into a panic,
searching for a cure from doctor to doctor. By October 1802 he had written the Heiligenstadt
Testament confessing the certainty of his growing deafness, his consequent despair, and suicidal
considerations. Yet, despite the personal tragedy caused by the infirmity in the one sense which
ought to be more perfect in [him] than in others, a sense which [he] once possessed in the highest
perfection, a perfection such as few in [his] profession enjoy, it also served as a motivating force
in that it challenged him to try and conquer the fate that was handed him. He would not surrender
to that jealous demon, my wretched health before proving to himself and the world the extent of
his skill. Thus, faced with su!ch great impending loss, Beethoven, keeping faith in his art and
ability, states in his Heiligenstadt Testament a promise of his greatness yet to be proven in the
development of his heroic style. By about 1800, Beethoven was mastering the Viennese High
Classic style. Although the style had been first perfected by Mozart, Beethoven did extend it to
some degree. He had unprecedently composed sonatas for the cello which in combination with the
piano opened the era of the

Class Structure In The Twelve Tables
The Twelve Tables is an ancient Roman table of laws that have shaped Roman culture and society
as we understand it. From those laws, a greater understanding of Roman life is revealed. Beyond
the rules, there is evidence of class structure, and economy. As well as family relations and power.
The Twelve Tables touch on slander and death in Roman lives.
The Twelve Tables informs on Roman class structure and Roman economy and describes
prevalent crimes in ancient Roman times and the equality of Romans. The Roman class
structure involved the patricians at the top of the social class, plebeians at the bottom of the
social class. There was a divide in the class structure with most Romans being plebeians which were
the poorest social class, and very few being patricians, the wealthy class. The Twelve Tables suggest
that was a problem in the economy due to the laws it provides. The Roman economy was poor at
the time of the Twelve Tables, since the asses, bronze coin, 500 asses or 50 asses ... it shall be
argued by solemn deposit with 500 asses, when the property is valued at 1,000 asses or more, but
with 50 asses, when the property is valued at less than 1,000 asses , was used for validity in legal
cases ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The economy was not doing well since the Romans
did not have the funds to afford a trial, the penalty sum, in action by solemn deposit shall be 500
asses or 50 asses ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The state of the economy is also

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring
again and today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in
a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding
and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we
found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same
time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first
floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally,
there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the
elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall,
twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was
perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could
say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i
wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in,
along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at
everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words
were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the
park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least
until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of
us because there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After
some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we
were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We
wandered the hotel after we changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after
a little while and we decided to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the boutiques made

Iganga Nursing Literature Review
Our findings indicated that health workers perceived reviews as part of continuous quality
improvement that emanated from the general routine work and cultural environment within the
hospital. We think this contributed to a continuous MPDR practice within the hospital despite of
the challenges faced.
It was revealed in other studies that the most successful reviews were characterized by three
interdependent, supportive cultural factors which are supportive health professionals, supportive
institutional culture and supportive political and policy environment14. It was also revealed that
the perceptions held by the health workers about MPDRs also varied from one study to another.
The perceptions held by health workers in Thyolo, Malawi were ... Show more content on

There was also no feedback and follow up from higher levels (national and district) hence there was
no systematic mechanism for follow up of recommendations. This is similar for the study findings
that investigated the MPDR system in Tanzaniawhich was a major barrier to effective
MPDR6,20,23. Most respondents reported that MPDR was important in improving their
professional practice and ethical code of conduct. However, it is difficult to ascertain the weight of
each activity in the improvement of care16,27.
Our findings revealed that mentorships greatly supported health workers conduct reviews. This is
not revealed in other studies as a strategy for supporting health workers realize effective reviews
in Thyolo District of Malawi, Ifakara in Tanzania and Senegal 8,11 23.The health workers revealed
that the reviews helped them to improve the quality of care which in other studies quality of care is
not easily measured and effect takes a long time where mistakes are repeatedly done16,25,27.
Health workers desire to change but the context of implementation has to count16, 26. In Uganda, it
was reported that some of the maternal death within hospitals happened at a time of staff handover
or change in work shifts19,27.
Supportive health professionals: doctors, midwives and nurses make all the difference between the
success and failure of reviews 14,21.Success also depends on accountability of both care providers

The Civil War Of Iran Essay
Historical Background
Throughout the 1980 s, Lebanon was engulfed in a brutal civil war that was waged between the
government and different rebel factions. Hezbollah, a fundamentalist Shia militant group allied
with the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), was one of the major forces fighting against
the Lebanese government. With Ronald Reagan as acting president of the United States, he made an
effort toward stabilizing the Area by sending peacekeeping forces to Beirut. In retaliation to this
involvement, a suicide bomber drove a truck into a military barracks, killing 241 peacekeepers on
October 23, 1983. 21 suspects were detained in suspicion of being involved in the planning of the
attack; Hezbollah, in retaliation, began to kidnap American and western individuals, demanding the
release of these men along with other outrageous concessions. Meanwhile, only a few countries
away, the newly formed Islamic Republic of Iran was at war against its secular neighbor, Iraq. Prior
to the Iranian Revolution, America had close relations with Iran s former leader, Shah Mohammad
Reza Pahlavi, and supplied the regime with American made military equipment. The new Iranians
leaders, however, had begun to exhaust these munitions from its war with Iraq, requiring more
weapons and spare parts in order to effectively thwart the advances by Saddam Hussein s army. The
United States however, had vowed neutrality, stating they would not sell arms to the belligerents of
the war. In the

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Summary
This article describes the black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys Ludovocianus) and their coteries.
Coteries are polygynous social groups that black tailed prairie dogs live in (Hoogland 1983). In
these groups, the one adult male reproduces with genetically similar females. The main purpose
of this article is for the author (John L. Hoogland) to communicate and defend his earlier work on
prairie dogs. These prairie dogs exist where some females and pups, within the coteries, do not
breed (Hoogland 1983). Moreover, black tailed prairie dogs behave parentally towards non
offspring (Hoogland 1983). In addition, Hoogland classifies black tailed prairie dogs as cooperative
breeders; however, they do not help breeders to the same degree as cooperative breeding birds
(Hoogland 1983).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, there is no evidence shown that support Hoogland original prediction (stated in the former
paragraph). Michener and Murie (1983) also argue that Hoogland s grounded assumption is on
outdated information. Hoogland refutes Michener and Murie (1983) argument by stating that
the direct relationship between helper size and long term reproductive success of females is an
assumption; thus, it should not solely decide if black tailed prairie dogs are cooperative
breeders (Hoogland 1983). I find Hoogland s last argument inadequate because he creates a
prediction based off statistics that do not support black tailed prairie dogs having an increased
success from having more helpers. Although it is acceptable, it does not support his argument;
and, consequently, taken advantage of by fellow researchers. The determination if black tailed
prairie dogs are cooperative breeders needs further research on the females long term reproductive
success. These are only a few of the examples that occur in this

The Death Of The Thief
He was focused on what he had to do; he d planned carefully, and this train ride was the last leg

people would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His
lowest balance was a little over 3 million dollars. This last deposit would be more than 4 million
dollars, maybe even closer to 6 million if he found the right buyer. He had decided it was time to
retire, though, and he didn t want to change his lifestyle. He was healthy, and not that old, so he
needed a good nest egg to retire comfortably. As he sat on the train that night, he thoughtabout the

In his mind, he believed they deserved to give some away, so he wasn t really hurting anyone. The

The Role Of Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
When Victor creates the being, he fails to imagine the kind of support and nurturing it will need.
Since he didn t give the being any sort of instruction, it becomes a monster. When Victor was
growing up, his father wasn t giving him the amount of nurturing a child growing up would need.
Victor was an only child, but his family always wanted a daughter more. When they got a
daughter Victor felt like he needed to protect this girl. Even though Victor was slightly nurtured as
a kid, when he was grown up his father wasn t very good at giving him the amount of nurturing
needed to help Victor develop. My father made no reproach in his letters, and only took notice of
my silence by enquiring into my occupations more particularly than before (Shelley, 34). Victor

The Philistine
Did you know?
GOD once used hemorrhoids as a punishment.
In the book of 1st Samuel, in chapter four, the Philistines and the Israelites were deep in battle.
After being defeated in one of the skirmishes, the extant Israelite soldiers returned to camp. Upon
the soldiers return, the elders were informed of the thrashing.
The elders, inquisitive as to why God had allowed the Philistines to win, decided that the Ark of the
Covenant should be brought to the next encounter as extra assurance. The elders sent for the Ark of
the Covenant to be brought to the camp at Shiloh.
Eventually the Philistines found out about this new strategy (turns out, Israelites are loud partiers)
and became concerned. Concerned, because the God that struck the Egyptians with horrible
plagues, was now in the Israelite s camp. The Philistines did not want to be the example of God s
wrath, so they did what they thought was the best plan of action. They attacked the camp at Shiloh,
slaughtered the Israelites, and stole the Ark of the Covenant. (1 Samuel 4: 1 10)
Now, we all know that God is not a fan of murder (Deuteronomy 5:17) or theft (Deuteronomy
5:19), so he did what Old Testament God did best, He smote them.
After capturing the Ark of the Covenant, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people demanded that the Ark be removed. It was decided that the Ark should be taken to Ekron.
At this point, word of what s happened to the people of Ashdod, and Gath had already reached
Ekron. Hearing that they were the next stop on God s Philistine Punishment Tour, they quickly
demanded that the Ark of the Covenant be returned to the Israelites. (1 Samuel 5:

  • 2. Youth Reflection Paper Even in 2017 social injustice is very real. Many before have taken measures against this issue, but it s still there. Over the past couple of week s, I ve taken notice to the events that have been going on in the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. It occurred to me that many of the oppressors committing social injustices were victims themselves. They were not properly educated when they were younger. Growing up thinking something is right your whole life is hard to change. So, I knew that s where I would start. The youth is the future and should be an improvement from the previous generation. I ve been fortunate enough to experience different cultures, and people my whole life. From going to Laotian New Year, to participating in Muslim community programs, etc. the list goes on. Also, I have Black, White, Indian, and; Asian, Arabic, Hispanic, and Native American friends. Who I learn from every day. So, how do I give others the education and lessons that I ve been taught? While I was doing my government homework about labor unions it hit me! The definition of a union is, an organized association of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests. What better way to promote social injustice then to have an organization of likeminded, diverse individuals. Directed at the youth of the world, this organization would be comprised of teens. Through my various connections I would gather a group of individuals from all different walks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty of nature and the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific context of love. The Songof Songs covers what would be today called the honeymoon phase where the loveis sweet, perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side of love, focused on entrapment, and overall heartbreak. The stream in the Song of Songs is a spring shut up (132), representing a love that wishes to flow/be consummated, but ultimately cannot because of societal limitations, whereas ... • 10. The House of Seven Gables as a Gothic Novel Essay The House of Seven Gables as a Gothic Novel To be a paradigm of a Gothic novel, The House of Seven Gables needs to include many elements, all which center on the ideas of gloom, horror, and mystery. The action of a Gothic novel takes place in a run down, abandoned or occupied, mansion or castle, which often include secret passages, doors, and compartments (Encarta). The mansion also adds its own flavor and variety to the atmosphere of mystery and suspense in the novel by providing a dark and gloomy setting where the story takes place. The basis of mystery and suspense in the atmosphere of the novel feeds off of an unexplained or supernatural event in the present or from past generations (Harris). The unexplained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inclusion of the elements of suspense, mystery, and gloom in a novel, along with the occurrence of supernatural and unexplained events, provide support for the novel as a Gothic piece of literature. By including all the elements, which standardize the content and atmosphere of the novel in the The House of Seven Gables, Nathaniel Hawthorne develops an exemplary example of a Gothic piece of literature. To be considered a Gothic novel, The House of Seven Gables needs to first fulfill the requirements of the setting, including a once aristocratic run down mansion or castle with many secret doors, passages, and compartments. The elements in the setting produce effects in the development of the mysterious and gloomy atmosphere. In the early years of the Pyncheon family, Colonel Pyncheon steals the domicile and land of Mathew Maule out of greed and fulfillment of his superiority as an aristocrat. Colonel Pyncheon constructs the House of Seven Gables on Pyncheon Street, over the grave of the restless Mathew Maule, inheriting the curse of death within its walls. The anathema of death Mathew Maule sentences the residents House of Seven Gables to results in a scarcity of inhabitants, due to the fear for their lives, and therefore the house becomes extremely dark and lonesome to the later generations. The lack of denizens to upkeep the house results in the house itself showing the signs of the melancholy and gloom it contains, mirroring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. In every culture , civilization, habitat, or locality, there is, or has been, some form of discrimination at hand. From what I ve experienced, I believe it is solely based off of change of normality. Les Miserables is play based on Victor Hugo s award winning novel. I must admit that the play made me realize the great stories that will continue be told in mass media for years to come. Much to my astonishment, the characters in the play essentially delivered a great show, ranging from their acting to their singing. I believe that Les Miserables is one of the most intricate stories with a plot featuring heroic life of a simple and good man, Jean Valjean, a role performed in the play by Matt Kinley. The original novel to which the play was based on has been my personal favorite since it portrays its lead actor as a morally upright person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good number of the poorer audience members were allowed to pay a few bucks to stand in front of the stage while the affluent majority sat on the covered galleries, paying twice as much as the poor audience for their seats. I could realize that the attendance was beyond the expectations of the play s organizer because most people complained about missing a ticket to watch it. The play was so well done, and the opening section was somewhat grand considering the fact that actors and actresses played their part and portrayed the characters in a way I could really relate to. I have always like live performances, and one thing the producer of Les Miserables introduced was the orchestra switch their voices between prerecorded and live scenes, this gave the play a sense of immediacy and power. This question has been debated for years, since his book came out in the 1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While others, like Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which story is the correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off stories he heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polodid in fact make it to China. In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26 years. As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease opportunities. Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the mountains of what is present day Afghanistan for close to a year. Le Chatelier declares that if a reaction s conditions are altered, the equilibrium of the reaction will shift in order to reach equilibrium and be balanced. During this experiment, whenever a solution was added or mixed at different values, the equilibrium of the equation was shifted to make more product or reactant (depending on where you add/mix). The spectrophotometer showed students the hue of the solution thus as a darker color, more product was shown and the absorptivity varied. In this experiment, many errors came up. Where the design and aesthetic of them were dictated by the utilization and boundary conditions. Towards the start of the 19th century, the knowledge and understanding of engineers changed due to the establishment of technical colleges around the world. When sciencefound its way into the building practice, there was a shift initiated that, besides some other technical innovations, also brought a whole new view of structures and how they were developed (Rinke and Kotnik 2010). A more science based view on the structural aspects of truss design marks the transition from a craftsmanship orientated construction to a theory oriented construction. This made the design of trusses and all structures more rational, systematic and highly efficient. The general triangular shape of a truss has been in use since man has used lumber for construction of structures. The origin of the triangular shapes of a truss stem from early roof design, when wooden roofs were constructed in a triangular shape. Hamilton s theory of inclusive fitness (1964) appeared to mediate this problem. However, the theory does not explain altruistic acts towards non kin in line with natural selection. Reciprocal altruism(Trivers, 1971), indirect altruism (Alexander, 1987) and strong reciprocity (Gintis, 2000) have been proposed to resolve this conflict. It is of note that behaviour in all theories has been noted in animals, but will not be discussed further. Instead, the essay will focus on which theories are most relevant when understanding human sociality, with the author explaining why no sole theory is seen to describe the phenomenon. All theories will be discussed in relation to evolutionary stable strategies (ESS), which refers to plans that when adopted by a majority of members in a population that restrict any other action existing, which could yield higher reproductive success (Smith Price, 1973). Darwin s (1859) theory of natural selection hypothesised that individual s with traits that increased their chance of survival would be more likely to reproduce. Such fitness enhancing genes would thus be passed to their offspring, increasing the trait s frequency in a population. Altruism thus appears to be an oxymoron to Darwin s (1859) theory. West et al. • 30. Upper House Case Study It is very evident that Queensland does not have to reinstate an upper house to be an effect government. This is due to that the original upper house was unable to do its job effectively of reviewing and negotiating laws and bills. Especially amending money bills that the lower house passed, due to that its members came from elitist group of wealth and education (Queensland Parliament, 2010). This elitist upper house resulted in a lacked of diversity, therefore laws that where made for working class Queenslanders, were rarely passed. Another large benefit of not having an upper house is that the lower house can debate and process new bills effectively, due to not having an upper house which can delay bills by up to 6 months. This cuts out the process of being of going through another house, therefore responding to society as quickly as it changes (Inside Story, 205). Also the reintroduction of the upper house would also be a costly burden on society, with the government having to potentially cut representatives in the lower house to compensate for the new senators (Inside Story, 2015). This cut to the lower house means that there would be less representatives and more people they are having to represent, therefore missing out on key minority groups opinions and beliefs in society. Therefore it is very clear that Queensland has no need for an upper house, and that the state functions adequately without the overruling power. References Inside Story. 2015. King Tutankhamen ruled Egypt as pharaoh for ten years until his death at age nineteen, around 1324 B.C. Although he was famous for reversing the tumultuous religious reforms of his father, Pharaoh Akhenaten. Tutankhamen s legacy was largely negated by his heirs. He was hardly known to the modern world until 1922, when British archaeologist Howard Carter carved through a doorway and entered the boy pharaoh s tomb, which had remained sealed for more than 3,200 years. The tomb s vase store of artifacts and treasure, intended to accompany the king into the afterlife, revealed an incredible amount about royal life in ancient Egypt, and quickly made King Tut the world s most famous pharaoh. Until his tomb was opened and that started the curse of pharaohs . What is the history behind the curse? Is it the curse real? Since the mid 20th century, many authors and documentaries have argued that the curse is real in the sense of being caused by scientifically reasonable causes such as bacteria or radiation. Yet, the modern origins of Egyptian mummy curse stories, their developed mainly in European cultures, the shift from magic to science to explain curses, and their changing uses from accusing disruption of the dead to entertaining movies. John Calvin lead the city into the Protestant Reformation, causing the city to become a major center for the spread of Calvinism throughout Europe. The counts of Savoy asserted their sovereignty in Geneva in the 15th century, pushing the bishops out of control. The bishops made many attempts to overthrow the counts, with little success. The counts of Savoy were successful in leadership and used force in order to uphold their status in Geneva. Until 1522 they had their own family members serve as bishop of Geneva. Therefore, this can help the organization be effective or prevent it from being effective. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to briefly analyze the positive and negative effects of total compensation. Total compensation influences productivity in numerous ways. For instance, compensation practices that link pay to the company s financial performance or other indicators of productivity can help focus employees attention on finding new ways to reduce costs and increase revenues (Jackson, S. A total compensation system could prevent an organization from being effective in several ways; for instance, if their total compensation package is not aligning with the employee needs, total compensation influences employee attraction, motivation, and retention. However, the importance of the various components depend on the person and his or her situation (Jackson, S. E., Schuler, R. S., Werner, S. 2012). The compensation system within an organization should align to the overall Business plan to achieve expected results. In other words, the total compensation includes: base pay, performance based pay, benefits and services, and nonmonetary rewards. The Rise Of Ludwig Van Beethoven The rise of Ludwig van Beethoven into the ranks of history s greatest composers was paralleled by and in some ways a consequence of his own personal tragedy and despair. Beginning in the late 1790 s, the increasing buzzing and humming in his ears sent Beethoven into a panic, searching for a cure from doctor to doctor. By October 1802 he had written the Heiligenstadt Testament confessing the certainty of his growing deafness, his consequent despair, and suicidal considerations. Yet, despite the personal tragedy caused by the infirmity in the one sense which ought to be more perfect in [him] than in others, a sense which [he] once possessed in the highest perfection, a perfection such as few in [his] profession enjoy, it also served as a motivating force in that it challenged him to try and conquer the fate that was handed him. Coteries are polygynous social groups that black tailed prairie dogs live in (Hoogland 1983). In these groups, the one adult male reproduces with genetically similar females. The main purpose of this article is for the author (John L. Hoogland) to communicate and defend his earlier work on prairie dogs. These prairie dogs exist where some females and pups, within the coteries, do not breed (Hoogland 1983). Moreover, black tailed prairie dogs behave parentally towards non offspring (Hoogland 1983). • 51. The Death Of The Thief He was focused on what he had to do; he d planned carefully, and this train ride was the last leg to freedom with a half million dollars. The thief didn t need the money in the sense that most people would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His lowest balance was a little over 3 million dollars. This last deposit would be more than 4 million dollars, maybe even closer to 6 million if he found the right buyer. He had decided it was time to retire, though, and he didn t want to change his lifestyle. He was healthy, and not that old, so he needed a good nest egg to retire comfortably. As he sat on the train that night, he thoughtabout the statue he carried in his bag. The theft had gone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He d planned, and gotten away, but it had been close. After that, he was hooked. He d practiced and planned, and successfully stolen jewelry, art and cash from people who had too much. He took pride in the fact that he d only stolen from people who had gotten their own wealth by taking advantage of others. In his mind, he believed they deserved to give some away, so he wasn t really hurting anyone. The young man was nervous. He had to get the money to buy his sister back from the people who took her. He had already tried to just grab her from them, the way they had grabbed her from him, but it hadn t worked. He still had bruises from that encounter, and they assured him they would give her up as long as he came up with the $5000 price they had set. Five thousand dollars might as well be a million to him. He d never had enough to even warrant the bank account he d opened with his first pay check. His paltry checks barely covered his rent and food for him and his sister. What little he had left, his mother stole to cover her drug habit. She had been the one who told them where to find his sister. She said they d forced her, but he knew it was probably for drugs. • 52. The Role Of Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein When Victor creates the being, he fails to imagine the kind of support and nurturing it will need. Since he didn t give the being any sort of instruction, it becomes a monster. When Victor was growing up, his father wasn t giving him the amount of nurturing a child growing up would need. Victor was an only child, but his family always wanted a daughter more. When they got a daughter Victor felt like he needed to protect this girl. Even though Victor was slightly nurtured as a kid, when he was grown up his father wasn t very good at giving him the amount of nurturing needed to help Victor develop. My father made no reproach in his letters, and only took notice of my silence by enquiring into my occupations more particularly than before (Shelley, 34). Victor didn t... After Victor created the monster, he was scared of what he created and how he didn t know how to nurture this creature. I took refuge in the courtyard ... fearing each sound as if it were to announce the approach of the demoniacal corpse to which I had so miserably given life (Shelley, 36). He didn t refer to the being as something he created or even in a caring or nurturing way. Victor thought of the being as a demon like thing, not even a life thing, but a dead thing. As soon as Victor made a thing he had imagined was going to be a great being, something he could nurture and love. Instead of what he had already imagined, he didn t imagine the kind of nurturing what he actually created would need. Without the imagination that someone would need in order to create a nurturing environment and in order to nurture someone. • 53. The Philistine Did you know? GOD once used hemorrhoids as a punishment. In the book of 1st Samuel, in chapter four, the Philistines and the Israelites were deep in battle. After being defeated in one of the skirmishes, the extant Israelite soldiers returned to camp. Upon the soldiers return, the elders were informed of the thrashing. The elders, inquisitive as to why God had allowed the Philistines to win, decided that the Ark of the Covenant should be brought to the next encounter as extra assurance. The elders sent for the Ark of the Covenant to be brought to the camp at Shiloh. Eventually the Philistines found out about this new strategy (turns out, Israelites are loud partiers) and became concerned. Concerned, because the God that struck the Egyptians with horrible plagues, was now in the Israelite s camp. The Philistines did not want to be the example of God s wrath, so they did what they thought was the best plan of action. They attacked the camp at Shiloh, slaughtered the Israelites, and stole the Ark of the Covenant. (1 Samuel 4: 1 10) Now, we all know that God is not a fan of murder (Deuteronomy 5:17) or theft (Deuteronomy 5:19), so he did what Old Testament God did best, He smote them. After capturing the Ark of the Covenant, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, the people of Ashdod demanded that the Ark be removed. As a result, the afflicted people demanded that the Ark be removed. It was decided that the Ark should be taken to Ekron. At this point, word of what s happened to the people of Ashdod, and Gath had already reached Ekron.
