Ageism In The Workplace Essay
Ageism is the discrimination of people based on their old or young. There will always be someone
who is working at the same company that is either older or younger than you, doesn t matter if its only
by a few months or years. Both people are at the company to do a job. At a local dermatologist, the
story will follow to medical assistants almost 30 years apart in age. Their job is to help bring back
patients and assist the doctor or physicians assistant. Although the government has worked to
eliminate ageism in the workforce, prejudices based on age are still present and scene in day to day
officers. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act ( ADEA) makes it unlawful for any employer to

They are associated with being in poor health or disabled, unwilling to try anything new, losing mental
sharpness, and are not good at functioning in a workplace. In the same case as young adults, these
myths and stereotypes regarding the elderly are most commonly not true. In a doctors office patients
seem to prefer an older medical assistant (MA) or doctor to one who is younger. Experience goes
along way in the medical field, an MA who has been at the same job for over 20 years is looked at
more trustworthy by their patients. The medical field is ever growing and jobs are always opening.
But with medical school taking almost up to nine years to complete, a lot of younger adults are turning
to PA school, which is only two and half years. Younger generations are starting to get more schooling
then their parents ever did. Terri, a 38 year old (MA) at Atlanta Dermatology for almost 20 years. She
did not attend college or receive a biology or pre med degree. Terri plans on being an MA for as long
as she can. The relationship she has with certain patients is a bond that can only be built by working

The Metal Band
Many people give the thrash metal band Metallica the cold shoulder whenever they hear their name in
conversation. Most go right to thinking of The Black Album and how it worked its way onto the radio
waves, and that Metallica is a run of the mill metal band that got lucky by writing a more mainstream
album. However, since the early 1980 s they were already fairly well known around the world even
having not really written songs appropriate for radio play. Most fans of the band before their
mainstream approach can be found online scolding them for this very reason. Metallica symbolized
the idea that someone could be successful without compromising themselves, or selling out . This was
in part why so many could familiarize with their music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Already being known, Metallica moved its center of operation to San Francisco. This was where they
began to set up an enormous underground fan base. Having the advantage of coming first before most
thrash bands and also releasing albums before most of them were on the map meant great success. By
1984 Metallica had already released Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning and later that year signed
with Elektra Records. By 1988 Metallica released ...And Justice for All and by that time their
underground fan following was colossal. Also, having the song One from that album made into a
music video aided in their media coverage. This song had been the first true song of theirs to be heard
on mainstream radio stations. By the arrival of The Black Album Metallica was huge of course, but
wanted to take it a step further. They changed their sound and abandoned almost all of their thrash
metal roots to a majority of songs that were radio friendly. The shorter length songs as well as
prevalence of ballads made it a commercial success. Many of their hardcore underground fans felt that
Metallica had turned their backs on their fan base and were now a mainstream heavy metal act. Older
records still sold quite well due to their choice to continue playing their songs at live events. Some of
the raised interest in their previous albums was also due to many people now discovering Metallica
from The Black Album. Metallica

Use Of Satire In Candide
In the novel Candide by the French Enlightenment writer and philosopher, Voltaire, the use of satire is
highly prevalent. Voltaire took many of the follies and views he disagreed with during the
Enlightenment and satirized them in this highly unrealistic and exaggerated novel. The events
throughout the novel, even if they have some connections or roots in historical events, are seemingly
preposterous and embellished because of Voltaire s heavy use of satire. However, Voltaire merely uses
these embellishments to accomplish his critique of certain parts of Enlightenment thinking that he
believed were foolish or incorrect. One of Voltaire s main uses of satire is his satirization of the
philosophical optimism held by some Enlightenment philosophers. For example, the German
philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, who is mentioned briefly in the novel by the character
Pangloss, is actually where the term best of all worlds originates from (Voltaire, 139 140). Voltaire
uses the main, and title, character Candide to satirize the foolishness of philosophical optimism by
having Candide go through so many hardships to prove this to readers.
The Enlightenment was a great shift in thinking and in part was inspired by the scientific revolution
and lead to many great advancements (Lecture, 9/10/14). Great thinkers and philosophers
revolutionized the way the population, regardless of class, thought about various aspects of life. From
politics to religion new ideas and ways of thinking

Essay about Natural Equality and Civil Society
Natural Equality and Civil Society According to John Locke in his Second Treatise of Government ,
natural equality is an essential component of the state of nature; the state of nature being one of peace,
tranquility, and equality, where there is no common power guided by reason. However, the lack of
common power also supplies an inconvenience for the state of nature the aptitude to fall into a state of
war with no means to escape it. To avoid this inconvenience , Locke finds it a necessity to form civil
society ruled by a common authority of law. For a such government to preserve its legitimacy, the
transition into civil society must maintain some degree of equality. The origination of property, the

If all human beings are to use the earth to their best advantage and the earth is the common property of
all, someone somewhere will have conflicting interests with another human being over the possession
of some thing. The only remedy is to sacrifice his/her equality by consent (It is not likely that one
would surrender equality to another) OR to enter a state of war. The only protection against the state
of war in John Locke s opinion is to enter into civil society governed by a common authority. By
taking this measure, Locke insists humankind can better protect itself against war and preserve the
right to enjoy what one possesses, . . . because no political society can be, nor subsist, without having
in itself the power to preserve the property [pg. 18]. Entering civil society requires handing over one s
executive rights and submitting to a common authority by law. So, according to Locke s definition of
equality, giving up one s natural executive rights means natural equality is no longer truly existent.
Though we are all still born to the same advantages of nature , and we still share the same faculties ,
and we still do not gain the right to subordinate another human being, we consent to subordinate our
personal freedoms and liberties to a common law for our own welfare. By

Defining Identity Essays
There are millions of words across the globe that are used to describe people and uncover their
identity, but what is identity? How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from
one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human
concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn t one definition to define
such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex.
Webster s dictionary describes identity as sameness of essential character, individuality, or the fact of
being the same person as one claims to be. So your identity can include your name, your age, your job
title, or simply characteristics of your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what
makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or have
the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people from the
same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same. That is until
you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people are exactly
alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind of person you
are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the world.
Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what they
see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they are so
infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can tell what
that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another. It creates a
sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into society. People
have to be able to bond with one another. Having a vastly different identity makes you an outcast, and
no one wants to know how it feels to be the loner. So people alter themselves to ensure that they will

BP is a multinational energy business that has 92,000 employees and operates in 175 countries. When
a new chief executive was recruited internally at BP (Tony Hayward), he promised to improve the
company s disappointing performance by quickly changing its culture to become more innovative and
responsive to its customers.
Q: How easy do you think it is for a new chief executive to change the culture of an organization
quickly? Justify your answer with reference to BP amp;/or other businesses that you know.

Another thing that Hayward is trying to say is that he thinks the BP should think more about the
maintenance of a piece of equipment for a longer time period but not the short term benefit like
cutting the cost, for example, it is not responsible to cut budgets related to safety and maintenance
without thoroughly examining the impact on the risk of a catastrophic accident. At the same time,
Hayward is well known and has experiences in the organization. If the workers can get involved more
to the business so that this might lead to better decision making and he also want workers to feel more
secure and happy in their jobs, since he hope to make the business to become more innovative. For
example, in changing situations that demand a new way of thinking or a fresh solution, stuff input can
be very helpful and valuable. These management strategies may lead the business to perform better,
and if the whole business is having more motivation to work which on the other words means to
become more responsive to its customers and furthermore, it may enable BP to raise it reputation and
gain its public s trust again.
However, on the other hand, changing the corporative culture of the business can be very difficult and
in reality, it take times for the business to get used to the changes before it moves on to the other stage
of better business performance. There are also some other factors that can influence the

Duels In The 19th Century
Honor is man s greatest weakness and is his boundless source of pride. Dueling and honor goes hand
in hand and was popular in the late mid to late 1800s. The honor of combat and respect gained from
getting it back turns into an interesting topic. Duelings history and impact on the world. How a duel is
supposed to happen with the rules set in place creates a formal duel. Duels are supposed have a sense
of nobility, so they were often official with some sort of record (Rae 92). When setting up the rules, it
must be both parties agreeing to the rules. Number twos were common to have in order for them to
have witnesses (Nye 1071). These number twos also got into duels resulting into double duels
(Mehaffy 89). Winning properly would result in killing or injuring the opposing side (Rae 92). ...

The sensory system is a part of the nervous system. It is responsible for processing our sensory
information, and it is the way in which we make contact in our everyday lives through our five senses
sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. (IML Training, 2012) Our sensory receptors allow us to pick up
information ears, eyes, nostrils, tongue and skin. All senses evolve to collect their distinct type of
information about our environment and to inform us of our status within it. (Goldstein, 2009)

The early wiring of the brain and sensory helps explains why some people are born without a sense
and can later regain it. An example would be deaf people receiving cochlear implants later in their
lives, causing difficulty integrating the new sensory information. (Humphries, 2011)
There are reasons to trust the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory data. When considering that a person
touches a hot stove or iron, our sensory information of feeling immediately messages our brain to
remove our hand. There will be other incidents where our sensory appears to be working well;
environmental influences can distort interpretation of data that are being sent to us. (Goodpaster,

The Low mass stars spend there main life as a fusion machine which turns hydrogen into helium and a
very slow and methodical pace. When the energy released by this fusion reaches the surface it is
released into space and this is the star luminosity. Over a long, long time sometimes billions of years a
low mass star consumes the hydrogen in its core and converts it to helium, at which point the core
starts to contract and shrink. Once all of the hydrogen inside the stars core begins to become totally
exhausted, the core pressure gives way to the crush of gravity because it has no more fusion occurring
in its core at that time. As the core shrinks rapidly and the outer layers start to expand the stars shape
begins to grow in size and its luminosity becomes extraordinary brighter due to the outer shell starting
to produce fusion more rapidly then the core did during the main sequence life of the star. As this
situation grows more rapidly and extreme the core starts to rapidly burn again and fuse its core helium
into carbon. Then just before its final death the star ejects its outer layers into space. This leaves only
the degenerate carbon core and since this core is still very hot it emits intensely powerful ultraviolet
radiation and glows brightly in what is known as a planetary nebula. The nebula fades and cools over
around a million or so years and we are left with a white dwarf cooling indefinitely till

The Medical Practices Of The Hmong
Medicine, to the modern day world, is a way of healing the sick and helping people experience life to
their full potential. It is an ingredient of a culture that allows the culture to survive through decades
and centuries at a time. But what if the medicine that we know as helpful is actually harmful? When a
child cuts their knee the first thing an adult would do is check the scrape and then assess the damage.
After assessing the damage, the adult would normally plan a course of treatment to ensure the child
would not lose a limb in the near future. After treating the child with a mixture of antibacterial wipes,
bandages and ice cream, what if the child is not better, but actually worse? That is what happens when
you compare the medical practices of the Hmong to the medical practices of the Americans, both
cultures believe that the others will cause more damage than good in respect to healing the soul and
body.
For the Hmong, there is a whole world out there, with amazing techniques, yet sometimes the simplest
questions like the choice between life and death create extreme conflict. Anne Fadiman accounts a
young woman by the name of Teresa Callahan who really is between the choice of life and death, I
[the doctor] told her over and over again that if the tube ruptured at home she might die before she
could get to the hospital. I called her husband and her mother and her father and grandparents, and

The Orange County School System
In 1945, a California LULAC Council victoriously sued to merge the Orange County School System,
which had been isolated in light of the fact that Mexican youngsters were inadequately dressed and
mentally sub par compared to white kids (Takaki, 378). In 1954, LULAC brought another historical
case, Hernandez versus the State of Texas, to challenge the fact that a Mexican American had never
been called to jury duty in Texas (Class Lecture, 11/30). The Supreme Court administered this as
illegal. In the twentieth century, starting with the 1952 Hernandez v. Texas suit, the case started to turn
gradually and unyieldingly ( A Class Apart ). That case prompted the first case contended in the
United States Supreme Court by Mexican American lawyers. ... Show more content on

Another instance of minority upheaval is what has now ended up known as the Longoria Affair
(Takaki, 388). This was a critical minute in the early phases of the post World War II social equality
development in the United States. Mrs. Longoria reached out to Dr. Hector Perez Garcia, the author of
the American GI Forum. On January 11, 1949, Garcia assembled a conference of the Corpus Christi
Forum; he additionally sent numerous telegrams and letters to Texas congressmen (Class Lecture
11/9). The national and global press grabbed the story and even affected U.S. Mexican relations. The
Felix Longoria issue turned into an early sample of a binding together occasion in the Mexican
American social liberties development (Takaki, 381). The intercession of Dr. Hector García and the
American GI Forum in the matter prompted an expanded enthusiasm around the nation in opening
nearby sections of the association (Class Lecture, 11/9). Among Mexican Americans and Hispanics
the nation over, the episode turned into an encouraging point and an enlisting instrument for the GI
Forum that soon had sections over the US. While Brown v. Board of Education is a broadly known
point of interest Supreme Court case, few can follow its inceptions to the instance of nine year old
Sylvia Mendez in Mendez v. Westminster (Takaki, 389). Sylvia s case, which was chosen in the
government courts in California, went before Brown by around eight years. Thurgood Marshall spoke

The Effects Of Drought On Human Consumption
Throughout the past century many areas of the Western United States have faced agricultural
concerns, many environmental hazards, and economical stressors stemming from severe drought.
According to livescience.com, a drought can be described as a period of unusually dry weather that
persists long enough to cause environmental or economic problems. (Oskin, 2014) Droughts are
natural occurrences that have been happening for hundreds of years, and although their effects haven t
been documented that long, scientists have been able to identify their impacts by using various
research methods. Droughts are fairly complex issues that can have many impacts on humans as well
as be influenced by human interactions with the environment. Negative impacts are being felt
currently in the Western US and are not showing signs of slowing up. Drought is highly dependent on
human consumption of water be it for agricultural, industrial, or household uses. There are many
issues regarding human consumption of water, but one of the most notable is the fact that we have
very little fresh water available that can be accessed and used by humans. According to the USGS,
about 71% of the Earth s surface is water covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth s
water (Perlman, 2014). This is a pretty humbling statistic, and brings to light how easily water can
become scarce. With less than 3% of the Earth s water being readily available for consumption,
humans do not have much room for waste.

Hudson Taylor
Student Review
I have seen that living in luxury is pointless and not only that but it can effect the way one lives for
God. When you live with just the necessities, you show yourself that there is more to entertainment
and comfort in life, that seeking material wealth all the time, Is a waste of time and the precious gift of
life which God has bestowed upon us to live for His glory and not our own. Gods will is indeed
inedible. Nothing we can do will prevent what He has in store for us in this life and the next. When we
do follow Gods will and obey Him, much joy and peace will pursue those who follow Christ.
Blessings abound in the righteous living of the one who obeys and hears God.

Hudson was faithful to God. His actions are a true model of the missionary of today and tomorrow.
Hudson s faith could be a lesson for us all,
quot; The assurance was brought vividly to me that what ever I asked of God in the name of Christ
would be done; that the father maybe glorified in the son, that what I had to do was seek strength for
the long walk, to receive it by faith and set out upon it. Unhesitatingly I told the Lord I was quite
willing to take the walk if He would give me the strength. quot; (Pg. 42)
Hudson lived for God and not himself, as seen in chapter three,
quot; I soon found that I could live upon very much less than I had previously thought possible.
Butter, Milk and other such luxuries I soon ceased to use; and I found that living mainly on oatmeal
and rice, with occasional variations, a very small sum was sufficient for my needs. In this way I had
more than two thirds of my income available for other purposes; and my experience was that the less I
spent on my self, and the more I gave away, the fuller of happiness and blessings did my soul become.

(Pg. 21)
#9;The spiritual account of Hudson is one to be reckoned in that, He is an example and role model for
missionaries today. Likewise from reading the account of Hudson Taylor, I realize that life is to
important to waste on the luxuries of life, living for self and not for Christ, but true blessings and

A coaster is affected by forces along its run (the force of gravity, as well as the supporting force of the
track), but if it is traveling along a straight away, forces to either side. On the other hand, if the coaster
hits a curve, it will tend to want to go forward. The track has to exert a sideways force on the coaster
to divert it from its path. The train, in turn, exerts a force on the riders. As they continue to try to go
straight, they get pinned to the side the car. Though they feel themselves being forced to the outside of
the curve (an effect commonly referred to as centrifugal force), the force that is exerted on them is
actually towards the inside (centripetal force), because that is the direction in which they are turning.

epitomizes this more than the mysterious Jay Gatsby, whose parties are the talk of New York City.
However, as we discover, this is merely a facade: the real Jay Gatsby is a lovelorn, conflicted man. His

To the public, he s an elusive, party loving socialite, but as we discover through Nick s eyes, Gatsby is
actually a charming yet reserved man. Ever since he was a dirt poor kid in North Dakota, Gatsby felt
he was destined for something more. He is a self driven man, and while his desire for wealth and
power is innate, it is not the only thing that motivates him. His love for Daisy and desire to win her
back cause him to buy a luxurious mansion on West Egg directly across the bay from Daisy and Tom s
mansion where he throws extravagant parties in the hopes of luring Daisy to one of them. Gatsby s
actual personality runs opposite to how he is perceived by the public, and this dichotomy is important
to the themes of the novel. Nick, the narrator, usually has disdain for wealthy people, holds respect for
Gatsby. As Nick says in his last words to Gatsby, They re a rotten crowd, I shouted across the lawn.

takes the blame for Daisy when she kills Myrtle. Even though she has abandoned him, he maintains

Studies On The Memory Response During Leishmania Infection...
Studies on the memory responses during Leishmania infection are either limited to cutaneous
leishmaniasis or are not appropriate due to the concern of safety. However, as per WHO, an estimated
20,000 death annually makes VL an attractive choice of study by the scientific community worldwide.
According to the recent study, more than 90% of the cases of VL are observed in Bangladesh, Brazil,
Ethiopia, India, South Sudan and Sudan (35). Adding to that, the medicines, which are available, are
relatively expensive, protocols of treatment often do not corroborate the recent progress and the
supply of these medicines is not prompt. As a result, chemotherapy alone fails to cure the disease. An

At this point we don t know why proliferation of CD8 T cells remained unaffected during recall
response in Ara LAM treated infected mice. It is also interesting to observe a higher production of IL
10 and TGF b in the group that received Ara LAM and re challenge with L. donovani compared to
other groups, suggesting that the parasite in the first encounter modulate the cytokine production even
in the presence of Ara LAM.
Consistent with the previous reports that IFN γ is required to induce class switching of IgG2a (29 30),
Ara LAM was successfully able to induce IgG2a antibody in infected re challenged mice. It is
noteworthy to mention that naïve mice treated with Ara LAM when infected after 14 or 18 weeks,
could not rescue from disease progression. Contrary to that, the results described in this study
indicated, successful induction of a host protective effector response is possible by adoptive transfer of
Ara LAM treated immune CD4 or total T cells (but not CD8 T cells). It is obvious that in uninfected
mice, Ara LAM does not stay for such a long time in the body as opposed to what happens in the case
of infected mice. Though, SLA immunized mice can show a mixed Th1/Th2 immune responses, but it
is insufficient to control L. donovani infection. Altogether, it is obvious that Ara LAM can generate a
pool of immune CD4 T cells in infected mice and that is

My First Day As A Kindergartener
My First day as a Kindergartener
One day afternoon, in my first day of kindergarten as I got out of school I was waiting for my mom to
pick me up and sign me out from my teachers signout list, in order to be released. However, as I
waited, many of my peers were getting picked up but me. As I began to see that many of my peers
began to leave, the classroom started to become more empty. Then as I waited, I finally got called to
be released but I didn t see my mom. I saw a strange woman smiling towards me and asking me how
my day went as I got closer, but I didn t answer. As I walked towards my teacher and the woman I was
really confused and a million things began to cross my mind. The woman had many children with her
which made me feel really doubtful even though I thought they were her children. However, I then
realized that there were too many children in order for them to be hers. So, if they weren t her children
who were they? Or even a more intriguing question; Who was she? Getting to know her was not so
difficult, as I thought it would be. Even though I didn t say much about myself when she began
questioning me I felt there was going to be a connection between us. As we had walked for a while
already with the rest of the children, we finally arrived to the place she had parked her car. After we
got inside her car she began heading towards a street that I had already passed through with my mom.
As she drove through that street, I saw a playground with a brownish fence

Cultural Rape in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Essay
Cultural Rape In Things Fall Apart
In Things Fall Apart, Achebe shows the ruthlessness of the missionaries in pursuit of new converts.
Domestic support for the missions depended in large measure upon the tangible success of their
preaching, success being reflected in the numbers of conversions. This relentless focus on success
caused the cultural rape of the people of Umuofia.
Achebe even hints at their use of bribery and blackmail in their endeavours. He tells us, the white
missionary had set up a school to teach young Christians to read and write (126). The inference is
clearly that the unconverted heathens were not given this opportunity. Yet bearing in mind the orality
of Nigerian culture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This presents a clear picture of the sheer rapidity of the colonial project. It seems inevitable that much
indigenous tradition and heritage will be swept away, resulting in feelings of profound cultural
dislocation, and loss of identity.
Yet despite these hardships, the reader cannot escape the feeling the Achebe is not as narrow minded
and bitter as he first appears. He clearly does not object to the discovery of and learning about new
religions and cultures. He presents a strong argument in favour of discussion as a path towards
understanding. In Things Fall Apart, the missionary Mr Brown and Akunna, one of the tribal elders,
often spend long hours in discussion, and although Neither of them succeeded in converting the other
... they learnt more about their different beliefs (147). This demonstrates a mutual relationship, in
which both parties are equally eager to learn when approached on equal terms.
It is not Achebe s intention to demonstrate any superiority an idealistic pre colonial Nigerian existence
might hold over life in Europe. What he seeks to achieve is an illumination of the complicated truth of
African existence (and) a concrete insight into the reality of their existence ( Conch 6. 1 2, 1974,
p.19). As clearly demonstrated in Things Fall Apart, he is making neither excuses nor apologies for
African existence.

How Successful Was The Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion of 1898 1901 is one of the best known but least understood events in Chinese
History. The Boxers were a group of Chinese peasants who despised every aspect of foreigners and
sought vengeance for the series of humiliations that China had suffered. Their primary objective was
to drive out all foreign influence out of China, which begs the question to what extent were the Boxers
successful in their fight against Imperialism? Throughout the nineteenth century, China was threatened
by the corruption of progress and foreign influence losing in both the Opium Wars and the Sino
Japanese War because of their inferiority to the European military technology which reflected the level

Historian Victor Purcell s most widely held view of the Boxers is that they began as a conservative
anti Qing movement; in other words, they opposed the existing government that started to conform to
Western powers. The efforts of the Boxer Rebellion was redundant in the sense that they led a
reformation. Although the Chinese government was mainly conservative it was still being controlled
by the foreign spheres of influence due to the unequal treaties signed to conclude the Opium and Sino
Japanese Wars. The Boxers were becoming well known practice, as their continuous rampages and
notable incidences linked to them gained the attention of conservative officials at the court, whom of
which convinced the Empress Dowager Cixi to view the Boxers as a useful asset for resisting foreign

Boxer s feat of gaining the support of the Qing government, which was being controlled by the West

protest by the Western Powers and the ultimatum presented to Cixi, which was to legitimize the

Empress Cixi chose the latter option because she believed that the Western powers were trying to

Larynx Essay
Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the
airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer,
also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of
the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts
for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will
disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal
Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result
in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as
possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of
speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery.
The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts
known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working
Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and
spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing,
phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions

because how will you be able to use free will if you can barely comprehend what is going on or not

Why Beauty id Truth by Ian Stewart
Why Beauty is truth: A History of Symmetry by Ian Stewart is in depth on how mathematicians came
about symmetry. Instead of coming across symmetry by geometry as someone today might think,
Stewart shows how it became an idea by algebra. Most of the book is told in chronological order from
the early Egyptians and Babylonians discovery of the quadratic equation and leading up to the
impossibility to solve the quintic equation. Through each chapter we see how mathematicians get one
step closer to solving the quintic, and their struggles they faced along the way.
Early Equations The earliest record of the quadratic that we know of dates back to the Babylonians,
solved on a tablet. Historians and Mathematicians do not have any clue about how the Babylonians
came to solve the quadratic, but think that they came across is geometrically. Stewart shows how
Euclid s Elements of Geometry introduced the basic methods for constructing a proof. Included in
Elements in Proposition 9 of Book I is how Euclid shows how to bisect an angle with only a compass
and a straightedge. Elements did not include information on how to trisect and angle though, which
could have been used for the construction of a regular 7 gon. It was Euclid s Elements that inspired
mathematicians to take it one step further and solve the things that Euclid had left out, such as
squaring the circle with only a compass and a straightedge. The difficulty of these problems led
mathematicians to change the way that they

The Canadian Pacific Railway ( Cpr )
The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), officially founded in 1881, marked a significant milestone in
Canadian history. At the time it was legitimately formed, no one could have ever imagined the
evolution and progression that it has made to present day. Over the past 150 years, the CPR has
underwent and endured its fair share of sacrifices. However, there are countless reasons why the CPR
should be viewed, remembered, and revered as a successful project. Throughout this essay, numerous
topics, from the origins of the railway s formation to its relevance and continued influence during
present day, will be illustrated and examined in great detail, as well as why the project itself was an
overall success. First and foremost, the idea of having a railway built throughout Canada was already
in existence long before 1881. However, it was not until Confederation was passed on July 1, 1867
when [The railway s] realization was found to be a political necessity (Leary, 5). In other words,
Confederation did not just mark the date in history where the federal Dominion of Canada was born,
but, it had also opened the doors necessary to make the project a reality. Clearly, there was much more
to Confederation than met the eye, and as part of the deal, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were
promised a railway to link them with the two Central Canadian provinces Quebec and Ontario
(Canadian Pacific). By 1871, Manitoba and British Columbia had also joined the Confederation. At

Cross Gender Dressing
Society plays a role in prescribing appropriate and inappropriate behavior. How a man and a woman
are supposed to dress are unwritten codes of behavior that most people tend to follow. Cross dressers
represent a group that is defiant of established norms as they opt to dress in ways contrary to their
gender assignment. Further controversy surrounds the issue of cross dressing particularly because
there is little consensus on its definition. There is also debate on the distinction, if any, that exists
between transvestism and other similar behaviors performed by men. There are similarities in some of
the behaviors performed by these separate groups. Research has yet to determine the causes of cross
dressing linking it to home, parental, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time, the feelings experienced were those of comfort and security. A Very extensive
documentation exists to show that cross dressing often begins in early boyhood and persist into the
adolescent years for the majority of adult transsexuals and transvestites (qtd. in Docter 55).
Government is another forum where the role of power is rampant, specifically in legislating laws to
control, restrict, and punish behaviors deemed deviant by society. The power of legislation is
conveyed many times in this statement regarding the matter of biology in homosexuality. If
homosexuality were found to be an immutable trait, like skin color, then laws criminalizing
homosexual sex might be overturned. Same sex marriage, job protection, anti discrimination in
housing laws all these could hinge on the redefinition of homosexuality as biologically caused rather
than socially and culturally chosen (Garber, p. 225). This statement brings up several ways of exerting
control over deviant behavior (linked to a particular group of people): by making the behavior a
punishable, criminal act; by discrimination through laws; by not granting protection of rights; and by
prohibiting the recognition of same sex marriage (as if by not recognizing it, it isn t really there).
The reinforcement of gender roles and boundaries through societal constructs is shown in Woodhouse
s discussion of transvestites

Almost all religions of the world promote and encourage honesty. Since the purpose of this paper is
not to discuss this paper with regard to religious types, therefore, it is just to mention here that all
religions of the world encourage honesty in all affairs of life. If one person behaves and acts in an
honest manner, then he will ultimately be rewarded either in a direct way or some indirect way. The

If one person is not honest, then he may have to speak several lies throughout his life. He will have to

result in personal as well as a religious loss for the individual. Similarly, if an individual speaks the
truth and does not lie with others, then he will be rewarded in either way. Therefore, it can be said that
the people should not lie with others.

  • 2. Ageism In The Workplace Essay Ageism is the discrimination of people based on their old or young. There will always be someone who is working at the same company that is either older or younger than you, doesn t matter if its only by a few months or years. Both people are at the company to do a job. At a local dermatologist, the story will follow to medical assistants almost 30 years apart in age. Their job is to help bring back patients and assist the doctor or physicians assistant. Although the government has worked to eliminate ageism in the workforce, prejudices based on age are still present and scene in day to day officers. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act ( ADEA) makes it unlawful for any employer to discriminate against any individual regarding compensation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Metal Band Many people give the thrash metal band Metallica the cold shoulder whenever they hear their name in conversation. Most go right to thinking of The Black Album and how it worked its way onto the radio waves, and that Metallica is a run of the mill metal band that got lucky by writing a more mainstream album. However, since the early 1980 s they were already fairly well known around the world even having not really written songs appropriate for radio play. Most fans of the band before their mainstream approach can be found online scolding them for this very reason. Metallica symbolized the idea that someone could be successful without compromising themselves, or selling out . This was in part why so many could familiarize with their music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Already being known, Metallica moved its center of operation to San Francisco. This was where they began to set up an enormous underground fan base. Having the advantage of coming first before most thrash bands and also releasing albums before most of them were on the map meant great success. By 1984 Metallica had already released Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning and later that year signed with Elektra Records. By 1988 Metallica released ...And Justice for All and by that time their underground fan following was colossal. Also, having the song One from that album made into a music video aided in their media coverage. This song had been the first true song of theirs to be heard on mainstream radio stations. By the arrival of The Black Album Metallica was huge of course, but wanted to take it a step further. They changed their sound and abandoned almost all of their thrash metal roots to a majority of songs that were radio friendly. • 4. Use Of Satire In Candide In the novel Candide by the French Enlightenment writer and philosopher, Voltaire, the use of satire is highly prevalent. Voltaire took many of the follies and views he disagreed with during the Enlightenment and satirized them in this highly unrealistic and exaggerated novel. The events throughout the novel, even if they have some connections or roots in historical events, are seemingly preposterous and embellished because of Voltaire s heavy use of satire. However, Voltaire merely uses these embellishments to accomplish his critique of certain parts of Enlightenment thinking that he believed were foolish or incorrect. One of Voltaire s main uses of satire is his satirization of the philosophical optimism held by some Enlightenment philosophers. For example, the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, who is mentioned briefly in the novel by the character Pangloss, is actually where the term best of all worlds originates from (Voltaire, 139 140). Voltaire uses the main, and title, character Candide to satirize the foolishness of philosophical optimism by having Candide go through so many hardships to prove this to readers. The Enlightenment was a great shift in thinking and in part was inspired by the scientific revolution and lead to many great advancements (Lecture, 9/10/14). Great thinkers and philosophers revolutionized the way the population, regardless of class, thought about various aspects of life. From politics to religion new ideas and ways of thinking ... • 5. Essay about Natural Equality and Civil Society Natural Equality and Civil Society According to John Locke in his Second Treatise of Government , natural equality is an essential component of the state of nature; the state of nature being one of peace, tranquility, and equality, where there is no common power guided by reason. However, the lack of common power also supplies an inconvenience for the state of nature the aptitude to fall into a state of war with no means to escape it. To avoid this inconvenience , Locke finds it a necessity to form civil society ruled by a common authority of law. For a such government to preserve its legitimacy, the transition into civil society must maintain some degree of equality. The origination of property, the introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If all human beings are to use the earth to their best advantage and the earth is the common property of all, someone somewhere will have conflicting interests with another human being over the possession of some thing. The only remedy is to sacrifice his/her equality by consent (It is not likely that one would surrender equality to another) OR to enter a state of war. The only protection against the state of war in John Locke s opinion is to enter into civil society governed by a common authority. By taking this measure, Locke insists humankind can better protect itself against war and preserve the right to enjoy what one possesses, . . . because no political society can be, nor subsist, without having in itself the power to preserve the property [pg. 18]. Entering civil society requires handing over one s executive rights and submitting to a common authority by law. So, according to Locke s definition of equality, giving up one s natural executive rights means natural equality is no longer truly existent. Though we are all still born to the same advantages of nature , and we still share the same faculties , and we still do not gain the right to subordinate another human being, we consent to subordinate our personal freedoms and liberties to a common law for our own welfare. How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn t one definition to define such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex. Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or have the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people from the same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same. That is until you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people are exactly alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind of person you are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the world. Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what they see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they are so infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can tell what that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another. It creates a sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into society. People have to be able to bond with one another. The Low mass stars spend there main life as a fusion machine which turns hydrogen into helium and a very slow and methodical pace. When the energy released by this fusion reaches the surface it is released into space and this is the star luminosity. Over a long, long time sometimes billions of years a low mass star consumes the hydrogen in its core and converts it to helium, at which point the core starts to contract and shrink. Once all of the hydrogen inside the stars core begins to become totally exhausted, the core pressure gives way to the crush of gravity because it has no more fusion occurring in its core at that time. As the core shrinks rapidly and the outer layers start to expand the stars shape begins to grow in size and its luminosity becomes extraordinary brighter due to the outer shell starting to produce fusion more rapidly then the core did during the main sequence life of the star. As this situation grows more rapidly and extreme the core starts to rapidly burn again and fuse its core helium into carbon. Then just before its final death the star ejects its outer layers into space. According to livescience.com, a drought can be described as a period of unusually dry weather that persists long enough to cause environmental or economic problems. (Oskin, 2014) Droughts are natural occurrences that have been happening for hundreds of years, and although their effects haven t been documented that long, scientists have been able to identify their impacts by using various research methods. Droughts are fairly complex issues that can have many impacts on humans as well as be influenced by human interactions with the environment. Negative impacts are being felt currently in the Western US and are not showing signs of slowing up. Drought is highly dependent on human consumption of water be it for agricultural, industrial, or household uses. There are many issues regarding human consumption of water, but one of the most notable is the fact that we have very little fresh water available that can be accessed and used by humans. According to the USGS, about 71% of the Earth s surface is water covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth s water (Perlman, 2014). Yet despite these hardships, the reader cannot escape the feeling the Achebe is not as narrow minded and bitter as he first appears. He clearly does not object to the discovery of and learning about new religions and cultures. He presents a strong argument in favour of discussion as a path towards understanding. In Things Fall Apart, the missionary Mr Brown and Akunna, one of the tribal elders, often spend long hours in discussion, and although Neither of them succeeded in converting the other ... they learnt more about their different beliefs (147). This demonstrates a mutual relationship, in which both parties are equally eager to learn when approached on equal terms. It is not Achebe s intention to demonstrate any superiority an idealistic pre colonial Nigerian existence might hold over life in Europe. What he seeks to achieve is an illumination of the complicated truth of African existence (and) a concrete insight into the reality of their existence ( Conch 6. 1 2, 1974, p.19). The Boxers were a group of Chinese peasants who despised every aspect of foreigners and sought vengeance for the series of humiliations that China had suffered. Their primary objective was to drive out all foreign influence out of China, which begs the question to what extent were the Boxers successful in their fight against Imperialism? Historian Victor Purcell s most widely held view of the Boxers is that they began as a conservative anti Qing movement; in other words, they opposed the existing government that started to conform to Western powers. The efforts of the Boxer Rebellion was redundant in the sense that they led a reformation. Although the Chinese government was mainly conservative it was still being controlled by the foreign spheres of influence due to the unequal treaties signed to conclude the Opium and Sino Japanese Wars. The Boxers were becoming well known practice, as their continuous rampages and notable incidences linked to them gained the attention of conservative officials at the court, whom of which convinced the Empress Dowager Cixi to view the Boxers as a useful asset for resisting foreign pressure. Cixi had instructed provincial officials to not suppress the Boxers activities. Gaining the full support of the Qing government meant they could fully focus on foreigners from that point on. The Boxer s feat of gaining the support of the Qing government, which was being controlled by the West supports the notion that China managed to drive out a considerable amount of influence. • 27. Larynx Essay Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer, also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery. The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing, phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions ... • 34. Why Beauty id Truth by Ian Stewart Why Beauty is truth: A History of Symmetry by Ian Stewart is in depth on how mathematicians came about symmetry. Instead of coming across symmetry by geometry as someone today might think, Stewart shows how it became an idea by algebra. Most of the book is told in chronological order from the early Egyptians and Babylonians discovery of the quadratic equation and leading up to the impossibility to solve the quintic equation. Through each chapter we see how mathematicians get one step closer to solving the quintic, and their struggles they faced along the way. Early Equations The earliest record of the quadratic that we know of dates back to the Babylonians, solved on a tablet. Historians and Mathematicians do not have any clue about how the Babylonians came to solve the quadratic, but think that they came across is geometrically. Stewart shows how Euclid s Elements of Geometry introduced the basic methods for constructing a proof. Included in Elements in Proposition 9 of Book I is how Euclid shows how to bisect an angle with only a compass and a straightedge. Elements did not include information on how to trisect and angle though, which could have been used for the construction of a regular 7 gon. At the time it was legitimately formed, no one could have ever imagined the evolution and progression that it has made to present day. Throughout this essay, numerous topics, from the origins of the railway s formation to its relevance and continued influence during present day, will be illustrated and examined in great detail, as well as why the project itself was an overall success. First and foremost, the idea of having a railway built throughout Canada was already in existence long before 1881. However, it was not until Confederation was passed on July 1, 1867 when [The railway s] realization was found to be a political necessity (Leary, 5). In other words, Confederation did not just mark the date in history where the federal Dominion of Canada was born, but, it had also opened the doors necessary to make the project a reality. Clearly, there was much more to Confederation than met the eye, and as part of the deal, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were promised a railway to link them with the two Central Canadian provinces Quebec and Ontario (Canadian Pacific). The power of legislation is conveyed many times in this statement regarding the matter of biology in homosexuality. If homosexuality were found to be an immutable trait, like skin color, then laws criminalizing homosexual sex might be overturned. Same sex marriage, job protection, anti discrimination in housing laws all these could hinge on the redefinition of homosexuality as biologically caused rather than socially and culturally chosen (Garber, p. 225).
