Maximus Quest For Freedom
Ridley Scott s epic film, Gladiator, considered one of the greatest films in recent years, won five
Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Scott s film, tells the story of the fall and rise of the great
Roman General, Maximus Decimus Meridius. The Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, tells Maximus
that he wishes that he ( ) the emperor after his death, instead of his son, Commodus. Angry,
Commodus, murders his own father, thus becoming the emperor, and sentences Maximus and his
family to death. Maximus escapes, but the Emperor s men murder his family and burn his home. Slave

This shows the viewer that greatness comes not from killing many people, but from ones own
consciousness, and beliefs. Maximus has not become a decorated warrior and hero, by just killing
people, he has used his own beliefs, and fought for what he believes correct. His fall and rise, allow
the reader to see exactly what he believes, and reveals his quest for freedom. Throughout the film,
Maximus does not want glory or fame, but only wants revenge and eventual freedom. The film holds
this theme and meaning within the scenes themselves, and the viewer does not need any background
information. Scott s film presents the overall purpose of he enhancement of life. Maximus, plays the
role of the hero, who rises, and takes his revenge. Although Maximus kills many people, he does so
righteously, trying desperately to avenge his murdered family, and gain his freedom. Not once does
maximus kill innocent people, or take the lives of those who did him no wrong. He only wants
vengeance, on those who betrayed and wronged him, those who made him a slave, and murdered his
family. At one point, Maximus screams to the crowd, are you not entertained, mocking their vile
cheering, and death chants. The people however do not hear his mocking tone, but cheer louder,

Compare And Contrast Siddhartha
In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse each character seeks enlightenment or already has reached
it . Although they all want to find true peace each one sees it differently and sees the path to finding it
differently. Both Siddhartha and Govinda find enlightenment but both in very different ways which
just shows that there is no one true way to reach that state Siddhartha believes that to find one s true
peace you must experience it and not hear it from teachers. Siddhartha does learn things from teachers
like wisdom from the Brahman, skills from the Samanas and the teachings from Gotama but he knows
theses teachings will not lead to enlightenment. Siddhartha seeks enlightenment at any cost even if he
has to leave loved ones like his friends and family. Something that helps Siddhartha reach this state is
his patience because he didn t reach enlightenment until he was an old man and if he wasn t patient as
he kept messing up and failing he never would have reached his goal because he would have
eventually given up. Siddhartha left a promising life of knowledge and success to go on a quest to find
enlightenment, after a life long journey he finally reaches his goal. ... Show more content on

Govinda does not choose his own path but follows the suggestions of others and needs assistance to
reach enlightenment. Although he sees a different way of reaching enlightenment than Siddhartha he
is very strongly determined and eventually finds enlightenment just as Siddhartha does he just

Antigone Viewpoints
In Antigone one of The Three Theban Plays, Antigone creates a plan to bury her late brother. This plan
involves taking extreme risks in order to achieve this illegal act. Whether or not this act should be
allowed is widely debated between characters. The viewpoints on the matter from characters
Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and The Chorus provide detailed explanations on each of their opinions
about burial and loyalty.
Going against the written rules, Antigone (sister of Ismene) believes her late brother should receive a
proper burial. To Antigone there is no other option but burial, her passion on the subject is what started
the argument with her sister Ismene. Despite being her sister, Ismene is very different and shares
complete opposite views on the matter than Antigone. Ismene initially thought Antigone would want
to keep her plan to bury him private, Ismene did not fully understand how devoted Antigone is to
orchestrating this burial ceremony. Antigone s intentions became clear to the reader and Ismene when
she stated Shout it from the rooftops. I ll hate you all the more for silence tell the world! (Lines ...

Nothing in the world comes above the safety of his country and he will do anything to protect it. As
Antigone is passionate for family, Creon is passionate toward the state as he shows through this quote
¨Whoever places a friend above the good of his own country, he is nothing: I have no use for him.¨
(Lines 203 205). Based on this quote, anyone who does not believe that their country is top priority
does not have any worth and is not needed. Creon is not against the burial ceremony, he is against a
burial ceremony to those that are not worthy. A person has to be a hero or important to the state in
order to earn the privilege of a burial. Antigone and Creon´s views are are radical and harsh but, Creon
is the only view that other people of the state have

House On Mango Street Character Analysis
People should always treat people with respect no matter what, someone can be having the worst day
of their life, but you may not know that and mistreat them, making their day even worse. Esperanza s
friends would never know her experiences, thoughts, and feelings and when her family and friends
ignore and treat her cruelly and she feels alone, sad, and even suicidal. So to Esperanza in House on
Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros her friends and family most shaped Esperanza s identity because she
doesn t have anyone that she can rely on and trust which is seen when her friends shame her and when
she was abandoned by people she admired thus show people need to respect people s feelings, even if
it means nothing to you, it could mean everything to them. Esperanza s family and friends impact
Esperanza s identity because she doesn t have anyone that she can rely on and trust proven by when
her friends shame her. To begin with, the author starts off the book with explaining how Esperanza and
her big family moves a lot. She sees one of her nuns at her new school and the nun asked her where
she lived. Esperanza pointed at her house and the nun responds rudely. You Live There? The way she
said it made me feel like nothing. There. I lived there. I nodded. (#5) Esperanza was ashamed and felt
like nothing when the nun from her school asked her where she lived. She said there so rudely and
surprised that it shamed Esperanza. Esperanza will always remember how the nun reacted to her

Violence in the Arts – Plato vs. Aristotle Essay
Violence in The Arts – Plato vs. Aristotle
Nowadays, it is hard to turn on a television program, catch a movie or buy your younger sibling a
video game without encountering a warning for extreme violence. Everyday, our lives are exposed to
violence on the screen, whether it is in the latest Sopranos episode or even watching the six o clock
news. For quite a while now, people have been demanding that stricter censorship be placed on the
media, especially those programs and video games that can easily be obtained by the youth, due to
their feelings that this violence can influence people to act out . However, this is not a new idea. Back
in ancient Greece, the philosopher Plato believed that exposure to the emotions of the arts ... Show

Plato perceived the dramas as dangerous, because he felt that they created confusion,
miscommunication and ignorance. He also felt that the entire world s evils came from a defective
sense of reality and that these dramas promoted that. For example, take a young child who grew up
somewhat isolated from the outside world and whose only outlet to our society is through the media.
His steady contact with violent programs (which in the end, show a happy conclusion no matter what
happens throughout) may convince him that this type of behavior is normal and accepted. Plato was
concerned especially about the influence that drama and even pornography would have on children,
because he felt that their minds were not developed to the full extent in order to differentiate between
the right and wrong that they see in the dramas. Many people will be quick to agree that a child should
not watch a rated R action movie, yet they still allow them to view a Saturday morning cartoon in
which the main character gets run over every episode and still comes back the next week. This can
create a faulty understanding of reality to a child, as well as an unsuspecting adult, because it does not
clarify that death is final.
What about the movies that emulate and perhaps glorify the lives of drug dealers and gangs? Are they

All of the characters at one point in the movie was using their hands when they were talking to
someone to help get their point across. Using their hands also got the emotional point across. Like
when Elsa told her sister to drop the subject about marrying because she was getting agitated ( you
could see it through her non verbal communication) which would mean her power would come out.
Her sister did not listen to her so Elsa got mad and threw her hands down and that s when everyone
sees what she can do. When Else makes the ice circle around her sister facial expression showed that
she was very confused. When Anna meets Hangs you can see in the scene where they both fall into the

everyone and getting introduced and they introduce Anna and someone pushes Anna closer to Elsa
because she was afraid Elsa did not want to be next to her in her personal space. Elsa has a lot of

it is a curse. She thinks if should would not have the gift then it would make her normal just like

Holism Attributes
Attributes Many attributes can be associated with the concept of holism. The three most prevalent
attributes are healing, caring and integral. These are the ideals that are described most often and
practice under the concept of holism.
Healing
In general terms, healing is defined as the return to health. It is restoring someone to their former state
of health or function. The American Holistic Nurses Association defines holistic nursing as all nursing
practice that has healing the whole person as its goal (Bair, 2016). Holistic nursing care encompasses
the idea of caring for the entire person, not just their physical body. Healing is a dynamic process of
recovering from a trauma or illness by working toward realistic ... Show more content on

Integral health involves the process through which we reshape basic assumptions and worldviews
about well being and see death as a natural process of living. Integral health care is a patient centered
and relationship centered caring process that includes the patient, family, and community and
conventional, integrative, and integral healthcare practitioners, services and intervention in all
endeavors. The Integral nurse is a modern day Florence Nightingale. The nurse that implements the
integral theory recognize the important of the whole person in the healing process. They are able to
promote healing through their knowing, doing, and being. Integral nursing involves a comprehensive
integral worldview and process that includes holistic theories and other paradigms; holistic nursing is
included (embraced) and transcended (goes beyond); this integral process and integral worldview
enlarges our holistic understanding of body mind spirit connections and our knowing, doing, and
being to more comprehensive and deeper levels. (Dossey Keegan,

There are two kinds of skepticism, local skepticism, which states that some areas of inquiry don t
allow for knowledge, and global skepticism, which states that we cannot know anything about the
world, (Bogosian). One of the most common arguments for skepticism is the Brain in a Vat argument,
which is very similar to the argument of the Evil Demon who controls us. In opposition to this is a
philosopher by the name of Hilary Putnam, who uses language as proof for us not being brains in vats.
I am going to explain to you why I think that Putnam is correct.
If you cannot be sure that you are not a brain in a vat, then you cannot rule out the possibility of all of
your beliefs about the external world being false. (Bruekner, 2004) I ... Show more content on

In his idea, someone who has never seen a tree, would not automatically call a tree by that name when
they saw it, however while we go through life we call things by their names. (Brueckner, 2004)He
states that if he were a brain in a vat, and he called something a tree it would be no more accurate than
someone who had never seen a table using the word to describe a duck. He uses the simple argument
of:
a. If I am a BIV, then my word tree does not refer to trees.
b. My word tree refers to trees. So,
c. I am not a BIV (Brueckner, 2004)
However, it is also stated that you cannot know that the image and knowledge of trees were not
programmed into the brains in vats, so they could know that the word tree means the image of a tree.
So unfortunately this, like most other Cartesian skepticism arguments, for me at least, is a hard sell. If
I had to decide on one of the two arguments to be the strongest, I would choose the argument against
the idea of brains in vats. This is mostly because I believe that there are too many emotions and
individual decisions that play out in each person s life for us to all actually be brains that are
controlled by a computer or by one person. Every single day we are making hundreds of decisions and
the responses to the same question, when presented to a variety of people vary significantly, and some
of those decisions can change spur of

Similarities Between Patriotism And Nationalism
The terminology patriotism and nationalism are two similar terms; both referring to the love towards
one country, however, patriotism is a subtopic under the concept of nationalism, because nationalism
is not solely the love of a country or the hate of all other country, suggesting there are different forms
of nationalism. Patriotism and nationalism are often mistaken as synonyms. Patriotism is the
unconditional love towards a country. It is individual connection between an individual and a country.
It could be caused by many factors of nationalism. Nationalism is the connection individuals felt
between one another regarding one or more notion of the many aspects of nationalism geographical,
social, cultural, political, religious, and economically related. Connections link directly to collective
identity, and it can be formed by religious beliefs, for instance, Indonesia is a Muslim country, and
majority of Indonesians are Muslims, this connects people in Indonesia religiously to one another, in
other words, citizens forms a collective cultural identity, where everyone valued the same belief,
leaving no one in isolation. Cultures and traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Paper On Migraines
In the last few years of my life I began to experience migraines. At first, I assumed they were
headaches. My knowledge of migraines was limited. I knew that my migraines begin as a mild pain in
my forehead (a headache), and progress to pain on the sides of my head accompanied by intense
throbbing. This pain causes me to have a sensitivity to light and sound, I cannot focus, and they
usually last a matter of hours. Occasionally they are longer, as sometimes I will go to bed with a
migraine and wake up with it still there.
As this pain progressed in intensity and length I decided it was time to do some research. I made a list
of all of the things I wanted to learn. From that list, I was able to form my research question: Would I
be able to lead a life where I could control or at least minimize my migraines? Later, I was able to
form an answer: I cannot cure my migraines, but I can minimize their effects and frequency. I came to
this conclusion by researching different migraine remedies and how they work.
My search was a new experience for me. I started by doing a Google search using the keywords
migraine causes . In order to determine the best ways to treat a migraine, I first needed to discover
why they happened to me. There were many Web sites maintained by medical professionals ... Show

Private Peaceful By Michael Morpurgo
Turn back the clock to a high school history class, the topic of the day: World War I. Although
bombarded with the statistics and factual knowledge of the war, students are not given information
beyond who won and how many casualties each side suffered. Students are not brought into the world
of WWI through a connection they may feel to those left behind, or those risking their lives on the
battlefield, but rather faced with statistical reports to be regurgitated. Topics such as heartbreak and the
loss a family feels when finding out their son have been killed in war are not highlighted throughout a
typical history book. Nor do we see a glimpse into the lives of the soldiers before the war began, what
they went through in the trenches, or what was left behind when they headed to their death. In the
novel, Private Peaceful, by Michael Morpurgo, readers are given a glimpse into the life of soldiers
before the war along with the heartache and loss felt when a comrade, or brother, finds death on the
battlefield. The story is told from the viewpoint of Tommo Peaceful as he reflects on the life he left
behind while at war. His brother Charlie was also with him in the war and through their relationship,
readers are given a story of the war that highlights the humanity and love soldiers possessed. With an
emphasis on emotions, missing details of life outside of the war zone, and a connection forged
between readers and soldiers, Private Peaceful leads readers into the story of WWI

The Marine Corps Is An Equal Opportunity Military Branch...
George S Patton once said, Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory (
Motivational Quotes. BrainyQuote. Xplore. Web. 04 May 2016.). As a Marine I was taught to always
accept challenges that are thrown at me, and to never to give up no matter how big or small the

service the Marine Corps holds their selves to a higher standard in everything but especially when it
comes to their height/weight standards and overall appearance in their uniforms. Physical fitness
requirements and overall health plays an important part in how both men and women Marines try to
maintain their weight.
In the Marine Corps though men and women both serve together they often aren t treated the same in
certain areas. When it comes to weight standards a female and male can be the same height but a male
is allowed to weigh more than a female. For instance, taller women are allowed to weigh more, with
the weight limit set at 164 pounds for a woman who is 5 foot 8 and 184 pounds for a woman who is 6

Why People Should Participate In Track And Field
Physical activity partakes an importance in our lives, and a simple way to get active is to join a sport.
Many people do not consider themselves to be athletic, but with a sport like Track and Field one does
not have to be because it can be recreational or competitive. Therefore; people should participate in
Track and Field because it involves a variety of events for different strengths.
Track and Field contains multiple events. The sport divides into four main skills which include
sprinting, pacing , jumping, and throwing. This gives anyone the opportunity to figure out what events
fit their strengths. People who can sprint, for example, could do the 100m dash (a quarter of the track),
200m (half a lap), or 400m run (one lap). The long jump, triple jump, pole vault or high jump are
events for people who can jump well. The long jump and triple jump involve running a certain
distance and then jumping at a certain point into a sand pit, however, the triple jump challenges the
individual with a hop , skip, and then jump into the pit . High jump requires upper body strength to
hoist oneself over the bar to achieve a certain height. Pole vault compares to high jump, but a pole
used to reach heights above 10ft. If a certain individual enjoys ... Show more content on

For those who rather not run at all, but have the upper body strength to throw objects, events such as

Relays are created for many events to give each team a chance to put their best runners or throwers
together to compete. For a running event, a baton gets passed between each player after their
respective distance finishes. Field events do their individual throws or jumps and then add the
distances together to see who reached the highest

Genetic Testing Is Ethical Essay
One of the questions that has recently plagued me has been that of which is about the genetic
structuring of our offspring. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child? If so,
do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be entirely
possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped me draw
some understanding on this hot topic.
Golden commences his article with a brief story of a mother and father who have been through
prenatal testing. They tested for Down syndrome and an inheritable neuromuscular disease. While it
was a straightforward procedure that was deemed valid by their doctor, Blue Cross (their insurance ...

submit to some prenatal screening. Usually this involves a blood sample of the mother s blood in order
to determine whether she is likely to have a child with spina bifida, neural tube defects, or Down
syndrome (Golden). United States genetic centers now offer DNA tests for over 30 or 40 of the more
commonly inherited disorders. Those including cystic fibrosis, susceptibility to breast cancer, X
syndrome, Huntington s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and many other various disorders
(Golden). Also, with recent developments, couples are able to have a pre implantation genetic
diagnosis (PGD). This procedure allows the testing of genetic disorders before germination. It consists
of petri dish testing of sperm and egg cells donated by the soon to be parents. This procedure prevents
the idea of abortion, for if genetic problems occur, you are not destroying a fetus, but simple flushing
away embryo cells. Another article that I have recently acquired has more to do with the ethical
standpoint of genetic tailoring, than the scientific. In recent years, a rather large sum of attention has
been placed on whether or not the possibility of genetic testing will harm our communities (Gooding).
The teaching of Bioethics often relies on difficult cases. Indeed sometimes the ethical dilemma is
developed by altering the details of the case that is otherwise intuitively straightforward,

Hypothesis Testing Is The Process Of Which An Analyst May...
Hypothesis Testing Paper

Judith Geske
Hypothesis testing is the process in which an analyst may test a statistical hypothesis. The
methodology used by the analyst is based on the nature of the data used and the main goals of the
analysis. The main goal in this is to either reject or accept the null hypothesis. Through testing, results
will show that someone who may prove one answer, may not mean that answer is actually correct, for
there may be many factors that may change the outcome. For this reason is why researchers the five or
one percent probability rates. In this null hypothesis it will prove that there is no difference between
these variables. With the single variables it is also proven that there is no difference from zero.
Statistical evidence will later prove that if it is indeed proven to be fact or nullified based on the
evidence gathered. A null hypothesis is a process in which research may try to disprove, reject or
nullify the proposed hypothesis. In a study, the researcher may use the hypothesis based on a specific
testable prediction; this is based on a dependent and independent variable in a study. In result, the
hypothesis researched will match what the analyst is trying to prove to be true in the problem. The
first step one must take when testing a hypothesis is restating the question experience analyzed into an
alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis. The following scenario is as follows: Do

Essay about John Searle s Chinese Room Argument
John Searle s Chinese Room Argument The purpose of this paper is to present John Searle s Chinese
room argument in which it challenges the notions of the computational paradigm, specifically the
ability of intentionality. Then I will outline two of the commentaries following, the first by Bruce
Bridgeman, which is in opposition to Searle and uses the super robot to exemplify his point. Then I
will discuss John Eccles response, which entails a general agreement with Searle with a few
objections to definitions and comparisons. My own argument will take a minimalist computational
approach delineating understanding and its importance to the concepts of the computational paradigm.

Understanding the notion of the Chinese room requires a bit of an explanation. Imagine you are solely
an English speaking person in a room by yourself, armed with a pencil, and the only things on the
walls are a series of instructions and rules. There is a door in the room, and on the other side is a
Chinese speaking person. This Chinese speaker is able to slide cards under the door upon which are
written Chinese symbols and sentences. The instructions written on the walls allow you to respond
appropriately to each symbol, well enough so that the Chinese speaker is fooled into thinking you
have a formidable grasp of Chinese. Now imagine that instead of a Chinese speaker outside the room,
there is an English speaker, and the same things are written. You would still respond appropriately,
convincing the other that you are a native English speaker, which of course, you are. Searle feels that
the two positions are unique in that, in the first instance, you are manipulating uninterpreted formal
symbols, simply an instantiation of a computer program. In the second instance, you actually
understand the English being given to you. In response to the first claim of the computationalists,
Searle states, although you respond appropriately, in no way do you understand the Chinese that you
are being given and responding with. As far as the second condition, he counterclaims that the
computer is simply functioning and there

250 Word Post Analysis
When it comes to creating blogs for a law firm, the length of the post is going to depend upon the firm
s focus and goals. A 250 word post is not going to achieve the same results as a 1,200 word post, and
that must be taken into account when picking what word count is right for your company.
250 word posts I have found that posts of this level are great for simple safety tips, which make them
great for personal injury lawyers. For my example post, I found a recent bicycle accident in Salt Lake
City and offered bike safety tips.
600 word posts For a post of this length, I can go into a little more detail. I will generally try to
include more links to laws or other authoritative sources. For example, in the post about child custody
in Massachusetts, I provided links to the Massachusetts legislature, allowing readers to see the exact
wording of the laws.

interracial relationships have been a deep seated conflict among many people and families in our
history. Not only in the United States, but many countries around the world have debated and banned
such acts. Although it has now been found to be unconstitutional based on the violation of the
fourteenth amendment, societal perceptions, norms, and hate groups have still managed to persist. We
as a country have come a long way in the past fifty years by recognizing the injustice in banning and
punishing certain marriages, but there is still a definite stigma and an abundance of prejudice,
resentment, and negative reactions attached to those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These types of experiences and attitudes lead many Black/white couples to isolate from their
communities to protect themselves (Bratter King, p.170). As one can see, when social support is
lacking it can lead to couples isolation. Isolation in turn can lead to other psychological issues and
problems between the couple making arguments and distress much easier to come by. One could
almost say that at least outside of the direct home of the couple, negativity seems to be lurking on all
sides of them. It would be easy to see how divorce may sometimes seem like the most logical or
conceivable solution to these stresses. It is clear that negative reactions from family as well as from
society and also outsider beliefs are aspects that can contribute to stress and negative marital
dynamics, yet there are still other variables like background/values, age, and psychological distress
that was just touched on briefly. In the past, interracial relationships were seen by many as a
psychological flaw or disorder in the person involved; someone who had low self esteem, self
loathing, deep psychological sicknesses, and inferiority issues. These attitudes put even more of a 4

Foundation of Orthodoxy and Formation of the Canon
THE FOUNDATION OF ORTHODOXY AND THE FORMATION OF THE CANON

Dana Peebles

July 18, 2015 Throughout the legacy of Rome there has been much conversation over the rise and fall
of the empire. From the government and its ideas to establish an effective common law, to the
economic and social status of the culture and what the values and beliefs are for Christians, the
foundation of orthodoxy and the formation of the canon becomes quite influential in this process. It is
my desire to explain that despite the disputes going on within the early church, the essential matters
such as the nature, humanity, and deity of Christ are critical to the rise of ... Show more content on

Materials had to be collected, and the textual criticism and credibility needed to be established. By
doing this, the canon was discovered. In the discovery of canonicity, Erwin Lutzer describes how this
happened. Lutzer notes that the canon came to be through the chosen people of God. This collection of
books was not selected by a synod or council of the church, but rather by the recognition of
authoritative people of God. [8]. Elmer Towns, agrees with Lutzer s view and adds that the basis for
including a book in Scripture means that it needs to withstand six specific terms of criteria. First, it
must be prophetic (written by a prophet). Second, it must be authoritative (claims to be God s message
. . . thus saith the LORD ). Third, it must be authentic (written by the person who claimed to be its
author). Fourth, it had life transforming power. Fifth, it was widely recognized as the Word of God,
and lastly it was reliable (the contents were consistent with the rest of Scripture, the data were
accurate, and there were no inconsistencies in the book). [9]. Towns standard, is one that applies to
Christianity and orthodox when identifying what the canon is and which 66 books would make up the
content of the Bible and God s revelation to man through Scripture. Since the revelation of God is
personal and there are more than 20,000 religious denominations to sort through, we can see how key

Thesis Statement On The Rehab Statement
The rehab statement
My life has changed positively... and I can confidently say that.
A few years ago, this statement would have been utterly false or perhaps something else I d say under
the influence of alcohol or to prevent my loved ones from finding out that I had taken a few sips. It
had become second nature to me, lying. I could say anything after having a few glasses, or a bottle, or
two. I lied on and on and I didn t care. Honestly, at that time, I did not care how my lies affected
people around me, or whether they affected them. All I cared about was myself and the temporary
escape I get from reality, which the drink offered. When I was sad I d drink, when I was happy I d
drink, when I was angry, I d drink, every form of mood I found myself in, I d use it as an opportunity
to drink. And afterward the result was the same, I d lie and hurt my loved ones. Drinking had become
a problem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pushed them away. Gradually, I began losing friendships and relationships, and declining socially,
mentally, emotionally, and financially. Every aspect of my life headed towards a downward spiral.
Eventually, I became so alone, and my loneliness hurt. And when it hurt, I d drink. It became a cycle,
a never ending cycling of me being hurt and then drowning my misery in drinking. I never thought it

Application Of Direct Sales Comparison
This report uses the application of direct sales comparison approach to derive the site value for the
subject property. There are sufficient sales of vacant lots within 3 miles of the subject property. Seven
suitable vacant lot sales were selected and analyzed to estimate indicated subject s lot value (table_ 1).
The analysis uses a per sq. ft. unit in valuing the site. The vacant lots were sold March to October of
2013. Lots attribute such as lot size, lot shape, topography, Resource Protected Area (RPA), zoning
which is density of development allowed per acre of land, and traffic patterns were analyzed. The
report used the Fairfax County digital maps of property, resource protected area, and topography
maps. In addition, aerial photography data was used to determine the level of traffic in areas
surrounding each lot.
The comparable lot sales are similar to the subject in term of land features such as lot shape, land use,
topography, and traffic patterns. The main differences in the comparable lots are observed in terms of
lot size, RPA, and zoning (density of development allowed per acre of land).
This report originally selected twenty one vacant or lots with old buildings which were subsequently
razed and replaced with newer and larger contemporary homes. In order to conduct a meaningful
analysis, the report calculated per sq. ft. median sales price of $7.20 based on the original twenty one
vacant lot sales (appendix _A). This figure is only used for adjusting the size

The Dropped Sales Of Cereal
The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In
One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of
cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the
reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of
breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As
it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post,
concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward
trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new
products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal
companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people,
because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is
inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not
take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to
another breakfast not because they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it
and clean up. Thus, when my All In One product get introduced in the market, we will have a

The Philosophy And Philosophy Of Ibn Al- ø Arab ƒ™
Category: Religion/Philosophy/Islamic Philosophy and Theology
The main themes of the book consist of epistemological tools, i.e. revelation, the human intellect,
inspiration unveiling used by Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya, and a theological subject, the divine
names and attributes that they have detailed elaborations on it.
Synopsis: The purpose of the book is to focus on potential similarities found in epistemological
hierarchies of Ibn al ʿArabī (d. 1240) and Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328), and reflections of these similarities
on their theologies. At the first part of the book, which comprises of two chapters, I examine
revelation, the human intellect, and inspiration unveiling as epistemological means used by both Ibn al
ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya. Both of them claim to have followed precisely the Quran and hadiths of the
Prophet Muhammad when religious knowledge is in question. Unlike some philosophers and Kalam
theologians, who may consider the human intellect valuable equally with the revelation, Ibn al ʿArabī
and Ibn Taymiyya affirm the highest status of the Quran and hadiths indisputably. Having confirmed
the most elevated status of the revelation, namely the Quran and hadiths, they differ prominently. For
Ibn al ʿArabī the most reliable way of religious knowledge is unveiling while for Ibn Taymiyya, the
human intellect must be given precedence over unveiling. Therefore, it can be said that the
epistemological hierarchy of Ibn al ʿArabī is constituted with the revelation,

whom he shows to the lord as his new wife. He additionally brings a peace giveaway from France,
which Gloucester peruses. He flounders when he goes to an entry about the French keeping the

once hard won by Henry V and by alternate rulers in late French wars. He estimates the up and
coming loss of France and takes off. Beaufort talks against Gloucester, recommending to Buckingham
and Somerset that they plot to remove him. Salisbury and Warwick chat with York about attempting to

about his confidence in his case to the throne and his disappointment that Henry energetically permits

he wants to favour Warwick and Salisbury. Gloucester identifies with his wife, the Duchess. He had a

He encourages her not to discuss her unbalanced desire, since she is now the second lady in the
kingdom, behind Margaret. Hume enters, and the Duchess and Hume examine her passion to contract

Slavery During The Ancient Era
Marris Clark
History 201 Section 17
Slavery in the Ancient Era Slavery has been a custom for almost as long as humans have dominated
the land on Earth. Even since before history was documented, slavery has been assumed to exist.
Slavery, in our current culture, is widely frowned upon and seen as morally wrong, but that has not
always been the case. In ancient times, slavery served an array of purposes that helped benefit their
way of life. Aside from the fact that humans were enslaving other humans whom were just as equal as
themselves, slavery proved to be an efficient system in the ancient era because it helped develop social
classes, stimulate the economy, and was a key source of labor around the farm and community.

In the ancient days, this was something very important. Being strong and rich might have showed that
you had power, that you could defend what was yours, and make room to attain more of what you
wanted. Being weak and poor, might have displayed poor work ethic to those around because you
could not provide. Determining who was upper and lower class, even though long ago, had to start
from somewhere. A time when certain individuals or groups had something new and unique that was
something that others strived to attain, or considered holy. When something is treasured or is wanted
by others, that gives the holder of this possession, whether it be beauty, luxuries, or new things never
seen before, the power.
Individuals did not always come to power just because they possessed something that everyone
wanted, some were not born into high class, royalty, or power, some took it by force. Therefore
separating the weak from the strong, and the strongest rising to power. When people began
overpowering other individuals, because that is just a humanistic nature, that is when the
determination of classes came about, and people were classified as slaves, because they did not fit into
society anywhere else. Slavery helped determine social classes because it was considered the lowest of
the low, and people definitely treated slaves as so. They served an array of purposes, and were helpful
in many different areas in the community in which they were located. It all

Our relationships with others depend on our mentality of thinking. Many people would like to receive
the promotion or save their marriage but, they were not able to properly interact with others. There are
six paradigms of human interaction (Covey, 1989). The fifth habit is to seek to understand, and then be
understood. That means that the listener should not just hear the other person, but try to empathize
with him. Most of the people can hear what others have to say; however they don t listen to others, the
message that other person is trying to relate goes by them (Covey, 1989). The sixth habit is to
synergize. The author is relating to work in the teams. He states that the all team members are worth
more that each of them separately put together. The group depends on each other. The differences
between the people make the group stronger because of their differences. Every individual has a
different prospective (Covey, 1989). The last of seven habits is to sharpen the saw. Most people tend
to forget themselves and tend to stay in one place. Many of the people tend to focus on the activities
that are not relevant to their goals or values. Every person should continue to grow using the four
elements of nature. That involves staying fit in physical condition. That can be achieved by proper
nutrition and daily exercises. Mental fit refers to reading and writing. Social element of nature refers
to servicing to others. The

Essay on America’s Children Deserve Charter Schools
America s education is failing, and serious reform is needed. The topic of education has been in the
forefront over the last few decades. Many, including politicians have attempted to tackle what seemed
to be a hopeless situation. With all the corruption and bureaucracy within the system, it is unlikely that
this problem will be resolved anytime soon. However, there is hope amidst all this, and that is charter
schools. Charter schools impact education by having passionate teachers who truly care for their
students well being, use up to date school methodology, are able to function with less bureaucracy, and
have accountability that results in less corruption, and increased cost efficiency.

According to the documentary, a bad teacher covers only fifty percent of the assigned curriculum,
compared to effective teachers who can teach up to one hundred and fifty percent of the assigned
curriculum (Guggenheim Chilcott, 2010). Sadly, more and more teachers have lost the passion to
teach. Some of them may even be in the profession simply because it pays. Well, charter schools
employ many passionate teachers who truly care for the students well being. These teachers are
equipped and trained to give the students their all, providing one on one mentoring to students that are
falling behind, making sure that students get caught up with the curriculum, giving them hope and a
promising future. Since children attending school spend most of their time inside a classroom,
teachers in charter schools take advantage of this opportunity and utilize as much time afforded to
them to instill positive values, goals, and dreams that students can aspire to. This is not to say that
there are no passionate teachers in the public sector, this is simply highlighting what charter schools
have to offer.
The antiquated educational model our schools stubbornly cling to was designed well over a century
ago to meet the demands of an emerging industrial economy (Mercogliano, 2005, p.2). In his article,

Fruit as a Vessel in the Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti s poem, Goblin Market, centers around two sisters, Lizzie and Laura, who become
entangled in the schemes of fruit selling goblin men. The goblins attempt to soil the women s purity
with delectable treats, but fail as a result of the strong will and love of the sisters. One could assume
that the fruit, which causes premature death and loss of passion in anyone who eats it, would be the
focal point of interpretation; it is the forbidden fruit that calls to sinners and causes a fall from grace,
or the manifestation of forbidden sexuality in a conservative period. However, this interpretation fails

goblins are able to appeal to Laura by singing a very descriptive and decadent song about all their
eccentric fruit. The song is meant to be an advertisement that Laura cannot resist because her nature is
to be curious, and she relies on her hearing and sight to feed her decisions. This is a key element to the

Technology And The Security Of The Public Confidence

The recent compromise of Target has exposed a more underlying issue of merchant s inability to

The Service Concept, Servqual Model And Understanding...
For this report I will be looking into conduction a critique piece examining the ideas, theories and
techniques specifically looking into the purpose application and limitation or the service concept,
Servqual model and understanding customer types.
The Service Concept
Application
The service concept can simply be broken down into three different stages which is firstly the
organising idea this is basically when the service is used or bought by the consumer. The next being
the service provided, this is the process in which affects the way their service provider ends up
interacting with their customer base. Last but not least is the service received, now the service
received is the end result of the customers overall experience in particular the emotions that they then
feel towards this posing the question if they were satisfied with the service provide and lastly was it
good value for the money that they ended up paying for it. (Johnston Clark 2008)
A brilliant example of the service concept would be to look at Alton towers concept which is very
good, the organising idea is quite a basic concept which involves having a great day out at the theme
park with over 100 rides for families and amusement park goers and thrill seekers leaving them with a
vast array of options to choose from.
The service provided is free car parking, helpful staff, huge amount off customer toilets, Clean Park,

an accumulation of many events that led to the start of the Great War. Collectively, these events are
now referred to as the July Crisis; additionally, events not included in the July Crisis also influenced
the beginning of World War I. The war was fought by two opposing Alliances: The Allied Powers,

In a letter to the Kaiser on the 5th of July 1914, Emperor Fran Joseph stated that the assassination of
his nephew was a direct consequence of the agitation carried on by the Russian and Serbian Pan

to go unpunished, because now the entire empire is feeling threatened. After the assassination, Austria
Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia, which stated that Austria Hungary wanted Serbia to be
completely responsible for the assassination, even though the killer was of Bosnian descent, not
Serbian. The Serbians were obviously angered by this ultimatum because they took it as an insult to
their country because also in the telegram was a request by the Austria Hungary to allow them to

however it also raised concerns in Germany and Russia as well. Evidence of this uneasiness can be

Just War and Pacifism Essay
The question Can war be justified? plagued mankind since the first war. The Just War Theory holds
that war can be just. The theory has evolved for thousands of years and modern theorists, such as
Michael Walzer, author of Just and Unjust Wars, puts forth criteria for a just war, such as jus ad bellum
and jus in bello. Jus ad bellum includes reasons for going to war, and jus in bello deals with the people
who wage war. The criteria in jus ad bellum include; just cause, declaration by a proper authority, right
intention, a reasonable chance of success, the end proportional to the means, and war as a last resort.
Jus in bello includes keeping innocents outside the field of war, and limiting the amount of force used.

In Locke s State of nature the government s primary objective is to protect individuals. For example, if
one was in a state of nature and a gang of savages attacked him or her, he or she would do anything
necessary to defend themselves. They would then form a group with a common objective of
protection. With life now insured, the group can pursue liberty, happiness and estate. Just War
Theorists claim the governments of today are essentially the same, only on a larger scale.
Walzer and other Just War Theorists hold that self defense justifies pre emptive strikes. If an outside
force is obviously endangering a state, it is then justifiable to stop the attack before it happens. Pre
emptive strikes can prevent a future war that has worse effects. Walzer has what he calls a general
formula for a just pre emptive strike, States may use military force in the face of threats of war,
wherever the failure to do so would seriously risk their territorial integrity and political independence
(87). Walzer uses an example to justify his general formula of a justifiable pre emptive strike. He
claims that the Six Day War in 1967 was indeed a just pre emptive attack on Egypt by Israel. Israel
was under real threat because Egyptian President Nasser massed an army and was positioning for
attack, while simultaneously closing the Straits of Tiran to Israel, and publicizing his goal to destroy
Israel. Israel went

Socrates View Of Love Essays
A Different View of Love
We have heard definitions of love through our lives that have been passed on for decades. Some of us
have felt love, and some of us have been in love. But no one ever seems to question what love is, as if
it is something that just plainly is.
People tend to just go with it, and think that what they are feeling is really complete and substantial
love. In Plato s The Symposium, the reader is confronted with some very different views of love as
brought to us by Agathon, Phaedrus and
Socrates, to name a few. Each man at the dinner party has a different point of view on the issue of
love. Some of the men are old lovers, and some are just friends, and each puts in his thoughts of love
as the evening wears on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What we don t think of when we hear a statement like that is that in the future we may not experience
what we did in the past. Having something, and loving it makes us feel like it will always be there for
us and that we will have it at all times. Socrates believes that even if you have all you want at the
present time, that in the future you will want it as well. He says this to Agathon, You already have
riches and health and strength in your possession, my man; what you want is to posses these things in
time to come, since in the present, whether you want to or not, you have them. (42). Socrates is
seeming to disprove the age old philosophy of, we want what we cannot have because of that very
reason we cannot have it. And once it is attainable it does not look so golden anymore.
Socrates says that once we have something good we will always want it because it is beautiful. And if
it is beautiful and good then it must be love, because all things that possess those two qualities have
got to be love.
This is where I see the problems in Socrates arguments. His explanations of love are in themselves
correct and reasonable, but they get unclear as he goes on. By saying that a man who is strong will
still want to be strong in his later life, and someone who is rich will still want to be rich he is correct
because everyone wants the good things in life. What he does not explain in his argument is why

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Backpacks
If commuting is your daily lifestyle, then you need total protection for all your belongings within your
backpack. At the same time, it is somewhat challenging to avoid using backpack, as we need its
excellent convenient features when we bring lots of stuff. The major drawback of wearing a backpack
is our inability to keep it safe from pickpocketers, as we cannot keep an eye on it, particularly when
we are walking down the jam packed pedestrian sidewalk.
Such phenomenon has led many backpack manufacturers to launch antitheft backpack. It contains
some features for the bag s total protection. It works more than just a storage for users daily needs,
whether they are laptop and its accessories, smart phone or tablet and its charger and power ... Show

But, Bobby introduces better cut proof resistance against any kind of sharp tools.
Secretly small sized pockets
Small sized pockets are easy to find on common backpacks. Yet, very tiny pockets in this backpack
are totally hard to notice, so users can easily keep their valuables safely here.
Unseen zippers on the small area around the shoulder straps
Those pockets have zippers, yet they are also invisible . Even if a pickpocketer has learned where the
opening bag zippers are, reaching them easily requires such a high, or even an impossible effort.
Shock proof
Just admit that we drop our bags sometimes, by chance. We hate to admit that we regretted for the rest
of our life when our laptop or gadget was cracked. It won t happen again if we are using this product,
thanks to its multiple thick layers for the maximum protection against shocking.
Vast dimension
Who need a strong backpack with very small dimension? What we need is a sturdy, antitheft backpack
with ample storage for our total commuting handiness. It has compartments for laptop, tablet, water
bottle, pens, some smaller ones, as well as hidden pockets on the side and

Nursing Action Plan
After high school, I plan to become a registered nurse. To accomplish this goal of mine, I will attend a
university after high school ends. My ACT scores were high enough to make it into UNO and
Southeastern but I am choosing Southeastern due to their nursing program. The courses in college
needed for this profession include basic nutrition, chemistry, psychology, human anatomy, physiology,
human development, microbiology, nursing science, pharmacology, and communication. To pay my
way through college, I will continue to take the ACT to improve my score for TOPS and I will also
rely on FAFSA. I will not work the first year of attending college because I want to focus on my
studies but once I get used to everything and become stable, I plan

Going against the written rules, Antigone (sister of Ismene) believes her late brother should receive a proper burial. To Antigone there is no other option but burial, her passion on the subject is what started the argument with her sister Ismene. For quite a while now, people have been demanding that stricter censorship be placed on the media, especially those programs and video games that can easily be obtained by the youth, due to their feelings that this violence can influence people to act out . He also felt that the entire world s evils came from a defective sense of reality and that these dramas promoted that. His steady contact with violent programs (which in the end, show a happy conclusion no matter what happens throughout) may convince him that this type of behavior is normal and accepted. Plato was concerned especially about the influence that drama and even pornography would have on children, because he felt that their minds were not developed to the full extent in order to differentiate between the right and wrong that they see in the dramas. Many people will be quick to agree that a child should not watch a rated R action movie, yet they still allow them to view a Saturday morning cartoon in which the main character gets run over every episode and still comes back the next week. There are two kinds of skepticism, local skepticism, which states that some areas of inquiry don t allow for knowledge, and global skepticism, which states that we cannot know anything about the world, (Bogosian). One of the most common arguments for skepticism is the Brain in a Vat argument, which is very similar to the argument of the Evil Demon who controls us. In opposition to this is a philosopher by the name of Hilary Putnam, who uses language as proof for us not being brains in vats. I am going to explain to you why I think that Putnam is correct. He uses the simple argument of: a. If I am a BIV, then my word tree does not refer to trees. b. My word tree refers to trees. So, c. I am not a BIV (Brueckner, 2004) However, it is also stated that you cannot know that the image and knowledge of trees were not programmed into the brains in vats, so they could know that the word tree means the image of a tree. So unfortunately this, like most other Cartesian skepticism arguments, for me at least, is a hard sell. If I had to decide on one of the two arguments to be the strongest, I would choose the argument against the idea of brains in vats. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child? If so, do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be entirely possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped me draw some understanding on this hot topic. Hypothesis Testing Paper Monica Gschwind PSY 315 June 8, 2015 Judith Geske Hypothesis testing is the process in which an analyst may test a statistical hypothesis. The methodology used by the analyst is based on the nature of the data used and the main goals of the analysis. The main goal in this is to either reject or accept the null hypothesis. Through testing, results will show that someone who may prove one answer, may not mean that answer is actually correct, for there may be many factors that may change the outcome. For this reason is why researchers the five or one percent probability rates. In this null hypothesis it will prove that there is no difference between these variables. With the single variables it is also proven that there is no difference from zero. Statistical evidence will later prove that if it is indeed proven to be fact or nullified based on the evidence gathered. A null hypothesis is a process in which research may try to disprove, reject or nullify the proposed hypothesis. In a study, the researcher may use the hypothesis based on a specific testable prediction; this is based on a dependent and independent variable in a study. In result, the hypothesis researched will match what the analyst is trying to prove to be true in the problem. Imagine you are solely an English speaking person in a room by yourself, armed with a pencil, and the only things on the walls are a series of instructions and rules. There is a door in the room, and on the other side is a Chinese speaking person. This Chinese speaker is able to slide cards under the door upon which are written Chinese symbols and sentences. The instructions written on the walls allow you to respond appropriately to each symbol, well enough so that the Chinese speaker is fooled into thinking you have a formidable grasp of Chinese. Now imagine that instead of a Chinese speaker outside the room, there is an English speaker, and the same things are written. You would still respond appropriately, convincing the other that you are a native English speaker, which of course, you are. Searle feels that the two positions are unique in that, in the first instance, you are manipulating uninterpreted formal symbols, simply an instantiation of a computer program. In the second instance, you actually understand the English being given to you. From the government and its ideas to establish an effective common law, to the economic and social status of the culture and what the values and beliefs are for Christians, the foundation of orthodoxy and the formation of the canon becomes quite influential in this process. In the discovery of canonicity, Erwin Lutzer describes how this happened. Lutzer notes that the canon came to be through the chosen people of God. This collection of books was not selected by a synod or council of the church, but rather by the recognition of authoritative people of God. [8]. Elmer Towns, agrees with Lutzer s view and adds that the basis for including a book in Scripture means that it needs to withstand six specific terms of criteria. First, it must be prophetic (written by a prophet). Second, it must be authoritative (claims to be God s message . . . thus saith the LORD ). Third, it must be authentic (written by the person who claimed to be its author). Fourth, it had life transforming power. Fifth, it was widely recognized as the Word of God, and lastly it was reliable (the contents were consistent with the rest of Scripture, the data were accurate, and there were no inconsistencies in the book). [9]. Towns standard, is one that applies to Christianity and orthodox when identifying what the canon is and which 66 books would make up the content of the Bible and God s revelation to man through Scripture. The analysis uses a per sq. ft. unit in valuing the site. The vacant lots were sold March to October of 2013. Lots attribute such as lot size, lot shape, topography, Resource Protected Area (RPA), zoning which is density of development allowed per acre of land, and traffic patterns were analyzed. The report used the Fairfax County digital maps of property, resource protected area, and topography maps. In addition, aerial photography data was used to determine the level of traffic in areas surrounding each lot. The comparable lot sales are similar to the subject in term of land features such as lot shape, land use, topography, and traffic patterns. • 26. The Dropped Sales Of Cereal The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. The Philosophy And Philosophy Of Ibn Al- ø Arab ƒ™ Category: Religion/Philosophy/Islamic Philosophy and Theology The main themes of the book consist of epistemological tools, i.e. revelation, the human intellect, inspiration unveiling used by Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya, and a theological subject, the divine names and attributes that they have detailed elaborations on it. Synopsis: The purpose of the book is to focus on potential similarities found in epistemological hierarchies of Ibn al ʿArabī (d. 1240) and Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328), and reflections of these similarities on their theologies. At the first part of the book, which comprises of two chapters, I examine revelation, the human intellect, and inspiration unveiling as epistemological means used by both Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya. Both of them claim to have followed precisely the Quran and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad when religious knowledge is in question. Unlike some philosophers and Kalam theologians, who may consider the human intellect valuable equally with the revelation, Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya affirm the highest status of the Quran and hadiths indisputably. Having confirmed the most elevated status of the revelation, namely the Quran and hadiths, they differ prominently. For Ibn al ʿArabī the most reliable way of religious knowledge is unveiling while for Ibn Taymiyya, the human intellect must be given precedence over unveiling. In Plato s The Symposium, the reader is confronted with some very different views of love as brought to us by Agathon, Phaedrus and Socrates, to name a few. Having something, and loving it makes us feel like it will always be there for us and that we will have it at all times. Socrates believes that even if you have all you want at the present time, that in the future you will want it as well. He says this to Agathon, You already have riches and health and strength in your possession, my man; what you want is to posses these things in time to come, since in the present, whether you want to or not, you have them. (42). Socrates is seeming to disprove the age old philosophy of, we want what we cannot have because of that very reason we cannot have it. And once it is attainable it does not look so golden anymore. Socrates says that once we have something good we will always want it because it is beautiful. And if it is beautiful and good then it must be love, because all things that possess those two qualities have got to be love. This is where I see the problems in Socrates arguments. His explanations of love are in themselves correct and reasonable, but they get unclear as he goes on. By saying that a man who is strong will still want to be strong in his later life, and someone who is rich will still want to be rich he is correct because everyone wants the good things in life. What he does not explain in his argument is why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
