FIELD TRIP AND
STUDY TOUR
Fieldtrip to the place of scientific interest provide
opportunities for direct experience and thus the
learning become more interesting and
meaningful
IMPORTANCE
They furnish first hand experiences to enrich classroom
instructions.
 They correlate the school life with the outside world.
They provide actual source material for study.
They can develop creative thinking.
It help to develop scientific attitudes.
It enables students to apply scientific method.
It gives relief from the routine classroom work.
The pupil learn planning, co-operation, and other details of
organization.
ORGANIZING A FIELDTRIP
• The important steps in the conduct of fieldtrips are
1)Planning
2)Preparation
3)Execution
4)Follow up
5)Evaluation
PLANNING
The fieldtrip should be planned well in advance
with the active with co-operation of teacher and
pupils in the light of its purpose.
PREPARATION
Students should know the purpose of visit.
They should given directions which they will observe
during the visit.
Permission of the places to be visited should be
secured well in advance.
 Permission of parents should be obtained before
the commencement of the programme.
EXECUTION
This step is concerned with the execution of the plan,
i.e., undertaking the activity, completing and searching
the results.
During the visit the then teacher should act as a
supervisor.
The success of the fieldtrip depends upon the directions
of the teacher at the spot.
FOLLOW UP
The follow-up activity should start from the first meet after
the trip.
Some follow-up activities are ;
General discussion on the trip.
Writing a report.
Preparation of models, charts, albums etc..
Displaying collected materials and souvenirs.
Arranging film shows related to the trip etc..
EVALUATION
It is an essential and important stage.
 The pupils should exchange their
experiences through discussions questioning,
explanations etc..
ADVANTAGES
It provide first hand experiences and its application to the students.
It tend to be much more meaningful and permit easier transfer of
learning to the solutions of real life problems.
It gives relief from daily classroom teaching when students spent a few
hours in an informal atmosphere.
It effect socialization.
Students learn to co-operate among themselves and also with the
members of the community.
