Objective Based and Competency Based Evaluation

Objective Based Evaluation  Evaluation based on pre- determined objectives is called objective based evaluation.  “What to measure and evaluate”? is the crucial problem in evaluation.  There is relationship between objectives, learning experiences and evaluation.  Any experience provided in the class room which results in learning is called learning experiences.  Instruction aimed at the attainment of pre-determined objective is called objective based instruction.  The evaluation based on pre-determined objective is called objective based evaluation.
Objective, learning experience and evaluation are interrelated. The interrelationship between objectives and evaluation is evident from the fact that evaluation is based on objectives and those objectives are selected as can be measured and evaluated. Competence Based Evaluation  Competency Based Evaluation is the process of collecting evidence and establishing conclusions on the character and scope of the learner's progress toward professional standards.  Evaluation based on competency. Competency means quality or extent of being competent.  Competencies guides the selection of what to teach and how to teach.
Features of Competence Based Evaluation Competency-based assessment is criterion based. This means that learners are assessed not in competition against others. Competency-based assessment is evidence based. Competency-based assessment is participatory.
Types of Competence Based Evaluation  Skills checklists.  Competency assessment tests.  Online competency assessments.  Competency-based interviews.  Skills gap analysis. There are four common types of testing in schools today—diagnostic, formative, benchmark (or interim), and summative.
Teachers' professional competence— their professional knowledge, skills, beliefs and motivation—is a critical predictor of teachers' professional wellbeing and success.
