The document discusses excursions and field trips in education. It defines excursions as school journeys with an educational purpose, while field trips are organized visits to enrich learning through hands-on experiences. Field trips allow students to observe phenomena in their natural settings and develop skills beyond the classroom. Successful field trips require careful planning, including clear objectives, site selection, preparation, and follow-up activities. Field trips provide benefits like first-hand learning, but also challenges like safety concerns and student behavior management outside of school. Overall, well-organized excursions and field trips can create rewarding learning experiences by supplementing classroom curriculum.

Teaching with technology is a broad topic that includes the use of media tools integrated within Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or those run more independently over the Internet. It also involves differing media types (i.e. social or dyadic) and functions (i.e. synchronous or asynchronous).
Instructional technology is the branch of education concerned with the scientific study of instructional design and development. The main purpose of instructional designers is to create engaging, effective learning experiences. There are a variety of models (e.g., ADDIE, Backward Design, ASSURE etc)

Field trips are most often done in 3 steps: preparation, activities and follow-up activity. Preparation applies to both the student and the teacher. Teachers often take the time to learn about the destination and the subject before the trip. Activities that happen on the field trips often include: lectures, tours, worksheets, videos and demonstrations. Follow-up activities are generally discussions that occur in the classroom once the field trip is completed.
Field trips boost observation skills by engaging children in sensory activities, enhancing and expanding the curriculum, enriching children's knowledge in a particular subject area, and expanding children's awareness of their community.

The White Paper discusses how activities outside the classroom has a positive impact on student’s development. The paper, titled The Relevance of Encouraging Learning Outside the Classroom talks about the importance of involving students in multiple extracurricular activities to ensure social and emotional maturity.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

3. INTRODUCTION
Field trip and excursion are interchangeably used in educational
literature. But in strict sense they are different. An excursion is school
journey involving any organized travel made by teachers and students
primarily with an educational motive in mind.Field trips are organized
visits of teachers and students to immediate or distant places to enrich
learning experiences and to further instructional purposes of regular
classroom activities. The field trip is distinguished by its concentration on
learning particular aspects.Hence the success is judged by the fulfillment
of pre-determined goals.
Education is not confined to classroom teaching.Life in the
classroom can cover only a small part of our total life.If learning is to
result in the total development of the learners, must go beyond our
school walls in to the community as students and as working
participants. The chief purpose of fieldtrip is to give students first hand
experiences that cannot be had in the classroom.Students can see things
,hear things ,handle things and can examine them minutely.Hence
fieldtrip is an outdoor lesson in action. Many objects and phenomena can
be studied best in their natural setting. Fieldtrip provide opportunities
for learning through the use of many techniques other than in the
classroom with the community,it develops better social awareness and
social skills development in pupils. In short fieldtrip provide enough raw
materials that would promote of senses, knowledge, emotions and skills.
4. EXCURSION AND FIELD TRIP
An Excursion is a trip by a group of people, usually made for
leisure, education,or physical purposes. It is often an adjunct to a longer
journey or visit to place sometimes for other purposes. It is a short
journey or trip especially one taken as a leisure activity. It is a movement
of something along a path or through an angle.
Short excursions for education or for observations of natural
phenomena are called field trips. One day educational field studies are
often made by classes as extracurricular exercises. eg. to visit natural or
geographical features.

To be effective, the trip must be planned carefully, otherwise it will
be just wastage of time, energy and money. The following are the stages
involved in the completion of a field trip:
1. A felt need: The purpose of the journey should be clear to students.
They should have a clear understanding of why they are going out,
where to and what exactly they might be expected to do.
2. Selecting a suitable place and securing the permission from the
resource centre.
3. Listing out specific objectives.
4. Planning and preparation.
5. Conducting the actual field trip or excursion.
6. Consolidating the results and taking up follow up activities: The trip
must be followed by discussion, reports or even a written test.
The fieldtrip should not be taken as a pleasure trip, though it is a
sort of an enjoyable activity. School –authorized, teacher-planned,
curriculum integrated field trips can provide the most concrete and
the most real learning experience.

8. DISADVANTAGES OF EXCURSION AND FIELD TRIP
Field trips and excursion are aimed at giving students better
understanding of certain issues. However, the following disadvantages
always threaten to ruin the learning experience.
1. Lack of chaperones: students of younger ages are not able to
correctly interact with the environment and other members of the
society without supervision. This means without chaperons, the trip
may end up being unsuccessful.
2. Budgatery constraints: a field trip may require travel from o ne
region to another. This means the school or parents will have to take
care of transportation costs and meal costs. These may all amount
to too much expenses.
3. Safety concerns: when students are out of school, they may come in
to contact with harmful substances like toxic chemicals or hazardous
equipment. Keeping them safe from these things may present quite
a challenge.
4. Student behavior: On field trips and excursions, students normally
get a sense of freedom which may lead them to misbehave. This can
create an unpleasant experience for those in charge and those they
interact with.
9. CONCLUSION
Field trips and excursions allow the students to learn outside of the
classroom. Many field trips and excursions combine educational content
with team building activities, such as working together to clean a stream
that has been polluted. Infact, it is often a good idea to go on a excursion
early in the school year to help create a bond between the students. It is
a way to bring the students closer together. A good field trip and
excursion supplements the curriculum and it offers the opportunity to
teach the students something new.A field trip and excursion can create
a rewarding and exciting learning experience for a student.
