Format:
I am creating a hip/hop & rap magazine. It is going to be called 808 which is going to be in the
form of a front cover and a double page spread (dps). The software that I will use is Photoshop
for the front cover and InDesign for the DPS as there are professional desktop publishing
software’s.
Working Title:
My working title is 808. 808 font style is going to be similar to other hip hop magazines out there
such as ‘THE SOURCE’ as it will be as it looks slightly graffiti like. The format and style will be
similar to XXL as it will be placed on the left hand side of the page. The font style will be simple
and easy to read and hopefully will stand out to a pass along audience. The graffiti style with
appeal to ‘digital natives’ (Prensky 2001) who will be the younger demographic audience.
Furthermore the colours of the title will be black with gold, which will relate to the hip-hop style
and the way in which the modern world of rap is viewed.
Genre:
The magazine I will be competing with XXL because the genre of my magazine will be hip/hop-
rap.
Content:
The name of sub-genre entitled 808 magazines will be full of pictures, articles, album reviews, gig
reports and song lyrics. The publication will also feature bands that are generally quite small and
not mainstream. Most will be signed to small record labels or perhaps not signed at all.
Style or Approach:
The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be black/white and gold,
I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because it is
fairly easy to use and can make my magazine look the most professional.
Some of the tools in name of software that will be particularly beneficial in constructing name of
the page will be magic wand as I can put my image in and take away any access bits that I do not
want in the picture without making it look unprofessional.
Audience:
• 16-23
• Unisex
• Group E because my age range will be the most popular with my age group.
The audience is mostly male although there are still female readers. They are 16-23 in general
although it will be main a young group of people . Music is a big part of their life and they will
base most of their activities and their style around this music.
Length:
• 40 pages
• A4 because that is the most common size.
I intend to make 16 pages including the front and back cover. It will be A4 in size.

Why?
So that my magazine is full of the most up to date news on music.
