UNIT 13 MAGAZINES -
PRESENTATION
By Owen Shepherd
INTRODUCTION
Hello and welcome to my PowerPoint on my magazines called
‘roll up’ and ‘top dolla’ in this I will explain all of the processes I
had to go through in order to create my magazines.
PROPOSAL
MOOD BOARD 1
TOP DOLLA -
PROPOSAL
SUMMARY OF IDEAS
The genre of my magazine “roll up” will be hip – hop.
The colors used will be black, red and yellow.
It will be printed with 40 pages on A4 paper
It will cost £2.99 for 1 issue
SUMMARY OF IDEAS
The genre of my magazine “Top Dolla” will be hip – hop.
It will have 40 pages in total and will be printed on A4 sheets of
paper
It will cost £2.99 per issue
The colors I will use will be black, orange, and yellow.
MOOD BOARD 2
My
magazine
Color schemes – the color of my magazine will
either be black white and red, black grey and red
or a black green and white color scheme
Price – my magazine will be
priced at £2.99 as the
magazine of inspiration is
£3.50 so mine would be
more likely to sell.
Target audience – my target
audience will be between 16-25
year olds, this is because the genre
of the magazine is hip hop so
would appeal more to young
people than older people,
furthermore I have seen “vibes”
target audience which is mainly
around this age group so If I want
to sell as much as possible it needs
to appeal to these age groups.
Frequency of release –
my magazine will be
released monthly to mirror
the frequency of when
“vibe” is released as
people will be used to the
monthly magazines.
Images – on my front cover I will include an imagine of an
up coming artist which will be good because people will
not know about him that much and will want to find out
more about the artist. Furthermore the technical code of
the image will typically be mid shot or close up so the
reader can analyze their body language and expression
connoting who they are.
Brand identity – the mast
head will be located in the
middle at the top on all my
issues so that people will
recognize that its my
magazine each time.
Strapline – “the top magazine for
your dolla”, “high level magazine
with high level music”

HOUSE STYLES
Color scheme: the main two colors I am using are red, black and white, but yellow
was used in places in order to create a color gradient. This is because my magazine
of inspiration used black, yellow and white, so I substituted the yellow for an red in
order to make it a little different.
Font style: my magazines font that I will be using for the masthead is called “Alley
Oop” and I am using this as it really bold and clear to read, which is perfect for the
masthead as it needs to stand out to the reader. For my other pieces of text I will be
using ‘the inbox’ font for things such as the headings and other content.
Social media – in my magazine I am using ‘twitter, Facebook and spotify’ as I have
created a Facebook page for my magazines as I think this is a highly used platform
by my target audience and it’s a thing which people are able to discus and see
pictures, furthermore I can tweet about the magazine and also promote the music on
spotify.

INSPIRATION SLIDE –
FRONT COVER
Strapline – this is very bold
and stands out as its white on
a black background which are
two contrasting colors. This
could connote that this
magazine stands out
compared to other
magazines.
Cover lines – these
outline other pieces of
information to the reader
so before buying the
magazine they are able to
see what type of content
is inside.
Barcode – this informs the reader the date in
which the magazine was issued and also
indicates the price in which they have to pay
for the issue.
Colors – all the colors in the
magazine stand out which
could connote that everything
in the magazine also stands
out and is exclusive information
which the readers are getting to
hear about.
Main image – there is lots of
things around the main image
which could inform to the
reader that there is also lots
of information on the artist
“Drake”.
Main headline – this links with
the strapline as it stands out
and is big as there will be a big
section in the issue based
around this.
REPEAT (STEVE NEALE
– 1980)
For my magazine of inspiration I will be using “Vibe” the conventions I
will be repeating in my magazine will start with the masthead as the
vibe masthead is in the middle t the top of the page and the image is
overlapping the mast head slightly.
Also as my magazine will be new I will be using the same design on
my first letter, which is shown in the picture, where the word new
hangs of the first letter of the mast head.
Furthermore I will be repeating the use of the banner at the top of the
page as it tells the readers the main artists who will be featuring in the
magazine and makes the magazine look aesthetically pleasing.
Front cover:
REPEAT (STEVE NEALE
– 1980)
In my DPS I will be repeating firstly the way
that my magazine of inspiration “vibe” has
the whole left page taken up by a “close up”
of my chosen artist. Furthermore I will be
coping the basic things such as the drop
capital at the start of the information on the
page, the title on the right page which will be
above the information and then also the
large logo above all of this, but in order to
make it unique it will all be different just
inspired by the “Vibe” magazine DPS.

FONT STYLE

FONT STYLE I WILL USE
This will be the font I will use for my first
magazine called “top dolla”.
This font is called “President” by
“imagex”.
The reason I will be using this font is
because it looks bold and the way the
letters are shaped makes it stand out as
being a top magazine. As well as fitting
in with the hip hop vibe as it was an
American style of music hence why I
used “dolla”.
This is the font I have decided to
use for my second magazine
which is called “roll up”. This font
is called “Alley Oop” by “AJ
Paglia”.
The reason I will be using this font
is because it looks similar to my
magazine of inspiration, but not
the exact same. Also the style fits
in with the hip hop type genre as
its punchy and will take over the
page.

AUDIENCE THEORIES-
HARTLEY
There are 7 socially grouped categories when it comes to
identifying audience through Hartley's theory:
Self – ambitions or interests of the audience
Gender
Age group
Class – different socio classes for example working or upper
Ethnicity
Family
Nation
AUDIENCE THEORIES-
HARTLEY (CONTINUED)
As this chart here shows on the
left the gender of “vibe” magazine
is significantly more male than
female and 55% are male readers
compared to only 45% that are
female readers.
Furthermore the denotation of the
age group is that most of these
readers are fairly young and are
mostly put under the 21+ age
range as 82% of the people
reading it are between these ages
which is the largest % of ages.
http://www.vibe.com
AUDIENCE THEORIES-
HARTLEY (CONTINUED)
From deconstructing various “vibe” magazine front covers I have
concluded that the ethnicity of “vibe” magazine is mainly people
of the black profile.
Lastly analyzing the class of “vibe” magazine readers I have
established that the class would fit into the middle class or lower
middle class as the readers will be young and probably wont
have lots of money.
AUDIENCE THEORIES-
KATZ
Katz’ theory of uses and gratifications is a very well used approach to learning and
understanding mass communication.
This theory places a lot more attention on the audience, rather than the real message
itself by examining “what people do with media” instead of “what media does to people”
(Katz”). It refers to members of the audience as being not passive but take an active role
in interpreting and interrogating the media into their own lives.
This theory trails a simple model, which is an audience focused method.
When the audience dramatically seek out media they are naturally seeking in order to
gratify a need.
Furthermore the theory expresses that audiences are accountable for picking media to
meet their demands.
This approach connotes that people use the media in order to gratify a need.
This theory may appeal to the “vibe” audience because it may inform and educate
the audience through things like interviews and pictures.
http://zimmer.csufresno.edu/~johnca/spch100/7-4-uses.htm
AUDIENCE THEORIES-
MASLOW
Self actualization – morally, creativity,
spontaneity, appetence, experience
purpose, meaning and inner potential.
Self esteem – confidence, achievement,
respect of others, the need to be a unique
individual.
Love and belonging – friendship, family,
intimacy and sense of connection.
Safety and security – health,
employment, property, family and social
ability.
Physiological needs – breathing, food,
water, shelter, clothing and sleep.https://www.globalessay.co.uk/20
15/04/criticisms-maslows-
hierarchy-needs/
MASLOW'S HIERARCHY
OF NEEDS
There is 4 types I will be talking about
in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs:
Explorers – these are the audience
which are pushed by social difference.
Caregivers – this is the audience
which feel bad and pity for the persons
situation.
Survivors – these are people from the
audience who like to know that the
person will be fine and the situation
will be sorted out.
Social climbers – these are people in
the audience who want to build up
their status in society.
https://www.pinterest.com/
explore/maslow's-
hierarchy-of-needs/
TARGET AUDIENCE FOR
MY MAGAZINE
According to the social
economic needs of the
audience would best fit in
E,D,C2 and C1. This is
because the target audience
are aged 16- 30 therefore if the
reader is 16 years old this
possibly means they are
unemployed and still in
education so they would relate
to the E category the 25-30
year olds would best fit C2 and
C1 because they would have
more life experience and
higher end jobs.
HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO
MARKET MY MAGAZINE?
HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO
MARKET MY MAGAZINE?
HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO
MARKET MY MAGAZINE?
In the previous slide it shows a Facebook pager that I created for my
magazines ‘ROLL UP’ and “TOP DOLLA”. I decided to use Facebook
as it is a platform where all ages are able to use it and its easy for
people to see what's going on as you can follow us which allows you
to see all our posts.
Furthermore there is a contact us button so people can chat to us and
let us know about who they would like to see feature on future issues.
I did this by creating a page on Facebook and adding all the features
to make it the official ‘ROLL UP’ page.
https://www.facebook.com/officialrollup/
CONNOTATIONS BEHIND
THE NAME
The name of this magazine is ‘roll up’ and this is
due to the fact that the word “roll” connotes going
with the flow and rolling with the crowd which
would mean that this magazine is the main hip hop
magazine and everyone is buying it. Furthermore
the word “up” connotes that it’s a magazine that is
‘up 'their with some of the best magazines and this
draws in the audience as the more ‘up there’ the
magazine is the more likely people are to want to
buy it.
CONNOTATIONS BEHIND
NAME
The name of this magazine is “top dolla” and I have chosen this
name for many reasons including firstly that the word “top”
connotes that it is a top magazine and is one of the best in
order to find out the latest and most important hip hop news.
Moreover the word “dolla” is an American used word which links
in with the fact that hip hop is more known as an American
genre, so this fits in to the overall stereotype on the readership
of my magazine to create the title “top dolla” meaning your
getting the top news for your money.
STAFF AND COST
Staff Salary
Editor £27,000
Publisher £55,000
Journalist £23,000
Writers £23,000
Photographers £20,000
Marketing £32,000
Finance £37,000
Design £29,000
Human resources £35,000
http://www.payscale.com/research/UK/Job=Marketing_Manager/Salary
This slide is where I had to research
what type of salary the certain roles
required in order to create a
magazine. I used the website linked
below and looked into the specific
roles for a magazine and the website
gave me a mean salary for the roles
e.g. a editor may get £20,000 or
could get £34,000 so the average
salary I would be looking at is
around £27,000, overall this helped
me get a good overview of what I will
be paying my staff.
EQUIPMENT AND COST

ADVERTISING REVENUE
I want at least 10 full page advertisements and with 1 full page
(FH) costing £3,025 I will make around £30,250 just from the full
page advertisements.
I will also want about 3 half page advertisements which will cost
£1,512 each and £4,536 overall from all three.
Lastly I will allow one DPS advertisement which will cost the
person £5,748 and that’s how much I will make as I am only
doing one.
So overall I will make £40,534 of advertisements.
PRINTING QUOTES &
COSTShttps://print24.com/uk/product/magazines/
I found a website where I was able to get a quote for the price and delivery of
printing 15,000 copies of my magazine, this ended up being in total £3907.63
to print and deliver. This is a good price as I visited other websites before
hand and this was one of the best prices and the most precise websites.
PROFIT
Money made from selling magazines (if sold 12,000) = £35,880
Advertising revenue = £30,250 + £4,536 + £5,748 = £40,534
Subscription sales (I am going to deal where you pay for a 12
month subscription but only for the price of 9 issues of the
magazine) this will cost £26.99 per subscription (if I sell 10,000
subscriptions) = £269,900
Distribution cost = no set fee
Total = £346,314
LOSS
Printing costs = £3907.63
Staffs salary's = £281,000
Equipment costs = £54,177
Marketing costs (Facebook) = £1277.50
Total = £340,362.13
PROFIT AND LOSS
BREAKDOWN
£346,314 (profit) - £340,362.13 (loss) = £5,951.87
so overall in the first year selling my magazine will make only
£5,951.87 after all losses have been deducted.
This is because I had to pay for all equipment and staff this year
but as I will already have requited staff and good equipment in
the next year, so my profits will be much higher at the end of
next year and also my magazine will have been around for
longer so its more likely that I sell more copies next year.
FUTURE PREDICTIONS
As I have only made a profit or around £8,000, in the next 3
years I want my “TOP DOLLA” magazine to expand and grow. I
will do these by in the next year increasing my printing from
15,000 copies to 30,000 copies which means that I will double
profits (keep doing this for the next 3 years) as well as not
having to pay for equipment such as apple macs as these will
have already been purchased.
My aim is for in the next three years for my magazine to make
profits exceeding £250,000

CHOSEN FAVORITE
MAGAZINE
My chosen magazine that I will be
distributing is “TOP DOLLA” and this is
because I think that the colors that I
have used in this magazine work better
with the background and the image.
Also I think the grey, black and white
colors on the double page spread better
also fade in and work better with the
orange and yellow which is why I want
to release this magazine over “Roll up”.

Unit 13 - Pitch Presentation

  • 1. UNIT 13 MAGAZINES - PRESENTATION By Owen Shepherd
  • 2. INTRODUCTION Hello and welcome to my PowerPoint on my magazines called ‘roll up’ and ‘top dolla’ in this I will explain all of the processes I had to go through in order to create my magazines.
  • 6. SUMMARY OF IDEAS The genre of my magazine “roll up” will be hip – hop. The colors used will be black, red and yellow. It will be printed with 40 pages on A4 paper It will cost £2.99 for 1 issue
  • 7. SUMMARY OF IDEAS The genre of my magazine “Top Dolla” will be hip – hop. It will have 40 pages in total and will be printed on A4 sheets of paper It will cost £2.99 per issue The colors I will use will be black, orange, and yellow.
  • 9. My magazine Color schemes – the color of my magazine will either be black white and red, black grey and red or a black green and white color scheme Price – my magazine will be priced at £2.99 as the magazine of inspiration is £3.50 so mine would be more likely to sell. Target audience – my target audience will be between 16-25 year olds, this is because the genre of the magazine is hip hop so would appeal more to young people than older people, furthermore I have seen “vibes” target audience which is mainly around this age group so If I want to sell as much as possible it needs to appeal to these age groups. Frequency of release – my magazine will be released monthly to mirror the frequency of when “vibe” is released as people will be used to the monthly magazines. Images – on my front cover I will include an imagine of an up coming artist which will be good because people will not know about him that much and will want to find out more about the artist. Furthermore the technical code of the image will typically be mid shot or close up so the reader can analyze their body language and expression connoting who they are. Brand identity – the mast head will be located in the middle at the top on all my issues so that people will recognize that its my magazine each time. Strapline – “the top magazine for your dolla”, “high level magazine with high level music”

  • 18. HOUSE STYLES Color scheme: the main two colors I am using are red, black and white, but yellow was used in places in order to create a color gradient. This is because my magazine of inspiration used black, yellow and white, so I substituted the yellow for an red in order to make it a little different. Font style: my magazines font that I will be using for the masthead is called “Alley Oop” and I am using this as it really bold and clear to read, which is perfect for the masthead as it needs to stand out to the reader. For my other pieces of text I will be using ‘the inbox’ font for things such as the headings and other content. Social media – in my magazine I am using ‘twitter, Facebook and spotify’ as I have created a Facebook page for my magazines as I think this is a highly used platform by my target audience and it’s a thing which people are able to discus and see pictures, furthermore I can tweet about the magazine and also promote the music on spotify.

This is because my magazine of inspiration used black, yellow and white, so I substituted the yellow for an orange in order to make it a little different. Font style: my magazines font that I will be using for the masthead is called ‘President’ and I am using this as it really bold and clear to read, which is perfect for the masthead as it needs to stand out to the reader. • 20. INSPIRATION SLIDE – FRONT COVER Strapline – this is very bold and stands out as its white on a black background which are two contrasting colors. This could connote that this magazine stands out compared to other magazines. Cover lines – these outline other pieces of information to the reader so before buying the magazine they are able to see what type of content is inside. Barcode – this informs the reader the date in which the magazine was issued and also indicates the price in which they have to pay for the issue. Colors – all the colors in the magazine stand out which could connote that everything in the magazine also stands out and is exclusive information which the readers are getting to hear about. Main image – there is lots of things around the main image which could inform to the reader that there is also lots of information on the artist “Drake”. Main headline – this links with the strapline as it stands out and is big as there will be a big section in the issue based around this.
  • 21. REPEAT (STEVE NEALE – 1980) For my magazine of inspiration I will be using “Vibe” the conventions I will be repeating in my magazine will start with the masthead as the vibe masthead is in the middle t the top of the page and the image is overlapping the mast head slightly. Also as my magazine will be new I will be using the same design on my first letter, which is shown in the picture, where the word new hangs of the first letter of the mast head. Furthermore I will be repeating the use of the banner at the top of the page as it tells the readers the main artists who will be featuring in the magazine and makes the magazine look aesthetically pleasing. Front cover:
  • 22. REPEAT (STEVE NEALE – 1980) In my DPS I will be repeating firstly the way that my magazine of inspiration “vibe” has the whole left page taken up by a “close up” of my chosen artist. Furthermore I will be coping the basic things such as the drop capital at the start of the information on the page, the title on the right page which will be above the information and then also the large logo above all of this, but in order to make it unique it will all be different just inspired by the “Vibe” magazine DPS. DPS:

  • 32. FONT STYLE I WILL USE This will be the font I will use for my first magazine called “top dolla”. This font is called “President” by “imagex”. The reason I will be using this font is because it looks bold and the way the letters are shaped makes it stand out as being a top magazine. As well as fitting in with the hip hop vibe as it was an American style of music hence why I used “dolla”. This is the font I have decided to use for my second magazine which is called “roll up”. This font is called “Alley Oop” by “AJ Paglia”. The reason I will be using this font is because it looks similar to my magazine of inspiration, but not the exact same. Also the style fits in with the hip hop type genre as its punchy and will take over the page.

  • 43. AUDIENCE THEORIES- HARTLEY There are 7 socially grouped categories when it comes to identifying audience through Hartley's theory: Self – ambitions or interests of the audience Gender Age group Class – different socio classes for example working or upper Ethnicity Family Nation
  • 44. AUDIENCE THEORIES- HARTLEY (CONTINUED) As this chart here shows on the left the gender of “vibe” magazine is significantly more male than female and 55% are male readers compared to only 45% that are female readers. Furthermore the denotation of the age group is that most of these readers are fairly young and are mostly put under the 21+ age range as 82% of the people reading it are between these ages which is the largest % of ages. http://www.vibe.com
  • 45. AUDIENCE THEORIES- HARTLEY (CONTINUED) From deconstructing various “vibe” magazine front covers I have concluded that the ethnicity of “vibe” magazine is mainly people of the black profile. Lastly analyzing the class of “vibe” magazine readers I have established that the class would fit into the middle class or lower middle class as the readers will be young and probably wont have lots of money.
  • 46. AUDIENCE THEORIES- KATZ Katz’ theory of uses and gratifications is a very well used approach to learning and understanding mass communication. This theory places a lot more attention on the audience, rather than the real message itself by examining “what people do with media” instead of “what media does to people” (Katz”). It refers to members of the audience as being not passive but take an active role in interpreting and interrogating the media into their own lives. This theory trails a simple model, which is an audience focused method. When the audience dramatically seek out media they are naturally seeking in order to gratify a need. Furthermore the theory expresses that audiences are accountable for picking media to meet their demands. This approach connotes that people use the media in order to gratify a need. This theory may appeal to the “vibe” audience because it may inform and educate the audience through things like interviews and pictures. http://zimmer.csufresno.edu/~johnca/spch100/7-4-uses.htm
  • 47. AUDIENCE THEORIES- MASLOW Self actualization – morally, creativity, spontaneity, appetence, experience purpose, meaning and inner potential. Self esteem – confidence, achievement, respect of others, the need to be a unique individual. Love and belonging – friendship, family, intimacy and sense of connection. Safety and security – health, employment, property, family and social ability. Physiological needs – breathing, food, water, shelter, clothing and sleep.https://www.globalessay.co.uk/20 15/04/criticisms-maslows- hierarchy-needs/
  • 48. MASLOW'S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS There is 4 types I will be talking about in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: Explorers – these are the audience which are pushed by social difference. Caregivers – this is the audience which feel bad and pity for the persons situation. Survivors – these are people from the audience who like to know that the person will be fine and the situation will be sorted out. Social climbers – these are people in the audience who want to build up their status in society. https://www.pinterest.com/ explore/maslow's- hierarchy-of-needs/
  • 49. TARGET AUDIENCE FOR MY MAGAZINE According to the social economic needs of the audience would best fit in E,D,C2 and C1. This is because the target audience are aged 16- 30 therefore if the reader is 16 years old this possibly means they are unemployed and still in education so they would relate to the E category the 25-30 year olds would best fit C2 and C1 because they would have more life experience and higher end jobs.
  • 50. HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO MARKET MY MAGAZINE?
  • 51. HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO MARKET MY MAGAZINE?
  • 52. HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO MARKET MY MAGAZINE? In the previous slide it shows a Facebook pager that I created for my magazines ‘ROLL UP’ and “TOP DOLLA”. I decided to use Facebook as it is a platform where all ages are able to use it and its easy for people to see what's going on as you can follow us which allows you to see all our posts. Furthermore there is a contact us button so people can chat to us and let us know about who they would like to see feature on future issues. I did this by creating a page on Facebook and adding all the features to make it the official ‘ROLL UP’ page. https://www.facebook.com/officialrollup/
  • 53. CONNOTATIONS BEHIND THE NAME The name of this magazine is ‘roll up’ and this is due to the fact that the word “roll” connotes going with the flow and rolling with the crowd which would mean that this magazine is the main hip hop magazine and everyone is buying it. Furthermore the word “up” connotes that it’s a magazine that is ‘up 'their with some of the best magazines and this draws in the audience as the more ‘up there’ the magazine is the more likely people are to want to buy it.
  • 54. CONNOTATIONS BEHIND NAME The name of this magazine is “top dolla” and I have chosen this name for many reasons including firstly that the word “top” connotes that it is a top magazine and is one of the best in order to find out the latest and most important hip hop news. Moreover the word “dolla” is an American used word which links in with the fact that hip hop is more known as an American genre, so this fits in to the overall stereotype on the readership of my magazine to create the title “top dolla” meaning your getting the top news for your money.
  • 55. STAFF AND COST Staff Salary Editor £27,000 Publisher £55,000 Journalist £23,000 Writers £23,000 Photographers £20,000 Marketing £32,000 Finance £37,000 Design £29,000 Human resources £35,000 http://www.payscale.com/research/UK/Job=Marketing_Manager/Salary This slide is where I had to research what type of salary the certain roles required in order to create a magazine. I used the website linked below and looked into the specific roles for a magazine and the website gave me a mean salary for the roles e.g. a editor may get £20,000 or could get £34,000 so the average salary I would be looking at is around £27,000, overall this helped me get a good overview of what I will be paying my staff.

EQUIPMENT AND COST Equipment Cost Office space £5695 (£1139 a week for 4 weeks) Apple mac book pro (x30) £34,470 Adobe CS6 Master Collection £2,220 Desks (x30) £7,020 Chairs (x30) £3,270 Printer £130.00 Cameras (x3) £1,347 Pens £7.99 Paper £16.99 http://www.flexioffices.co.uk/blackfria rs/london/tallis-street_ec4y_id8357 http://www.johnlewis.com http://www.softwarebrands.co.uk https://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk Printerland.co.uk http://www.johnlewis.com http://www.ebay.co.uk
  • 57. ADVERTISING REVENUE I want at least 10 full page advertisements and with 1 full page (FH) costing £3,025 I will make around £30,250 just from the full page advertisements. I will also want about 3 half page advertisements which will cost £1,512 each and £4,536 overall from all three. Lastly I will allow one DPS advertisement which will cost the person £5,748 and that’s how much I will make as I am only doing one. So overall I will make £40,534 of advertisements.
  • 58. PRINTING QUOTES & COSTShttps://print24.com/uk/product/magazines/ I found a website where I was able to get a quote for the price and delivery of printing 15,000 copies of my magazine, this ended up being in total £3907.63 to print and deliver. This is a good price as I visited other websites before hand and this was one of the best prices and the most precise websites.
  • 59. PROFIT Money made from selling magazines (if sold 12,000) = £35,880 Advertising revenue = £30,250 + £4,536 + £5,748 = £40,534 Subscription sales (I am going to deal where you pay for a 12 month subscription but only for the price of 9 issues of the magazine) this will cost £26.99 per subscription (if I sell 10,000 subscriptions) = £269,900 Distribution cost = no set fee Total = £346,314
  • 60. LOSS Printing costs = £3907.63 Staffs salary's = £281,000 Equipment costs = £54,177 Marketing costs (Facebook) = £1277.50 Total = £340,362.13
  • 61. PROFIT AND LOSS BREAKDOWN £346,314 (profit) - £340,362.13 (loss) = £5,951.87 so overall in the first year selling my magazine will make only £5,951.87 after all losses have been deducted. This is because I had to pay for all equipment and staff this year but as I will already have requited staff and good equipment in the next year, so my profits will be much higher at the end of next year and also my magazine will have been around for longer so its more likely that I sell more copies next year.
  • 62. FUTURE PREDICTIONS As I have only made a profit or around £8,000, in the next 3 years I want my “TOP DOLLA” magazine to expand and grow. I will do these by in the next year increasing my printing from 15,000 copies to 30,000 copies which means that I will double profits (keep doing this for the next 3 years) as well as not having to pay for equipment such as apple macs as these will have already been purchased. My aim is for in the next three years for my magazine to make profits exceeding £250,000
  • 63. “ROLL UP” MAGAZINE – FRONT COVER
  • 65. “TOP DOLLA” MAGAZINE – FRONT COVER
  • 67. CHOSEN FAVORITE MAGAZINE My chosen magazine that I will be distributing is “TOP DOLLA” and this is because I think that the colors that I have used in this magazine work better with the background and the image. Also I think the grey, black and white colors on the double page spread better also fade in and work better with the orange and yellow which is why I want to release this magazine over “Roll up”.
