Interactive Powerpoint_How to Master effective communication
Unit 13- LO2
1.
2. Summary of ideas
One magazine (CM) will include many different genres of music, similar to Q magazine.
This means the genre will be eclectic, since the magazine will include a wide range of
genres. Whereas, my other magazine (FS) will more focus on rap. The colours in which
I will use will mainly be red, white and black. With an easily readable font style so it
attracts more readers. My dimensions will be the standard A4 pages (8.27 x 11.69
inches). My target audience is mainly people between the age of 15-50 (Hartley) as I
will be covering multiple genres so that it can be appealing to a more of a age range.
Socio-economic needs will be targeted at C1, C2 and D as people in A and B may feel
too sophisticated to be reading my magazine, thus they will not buy it. Where as, C1,
C2 and D are really the ‘norm’ and they will be comfortable reading the magazine on a
train for instance. According to Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the Survivors will be able
to rely on the magazine being released monthly. Secondly, according to Katz Uses and
Gratifications theory, my magazine will inform and educate as it would include
information on artists and things that the reader may want to read. This is my
summary of ideas for both magazines.

8. Mood board conclusion
In conclusion, I can use the mood boards I have created will influence what I
put on my magazine, how I present it, the features I will have and the stories I
will cover. It allows me to get easy inspiration which will help me when I get
to creating my front page for example since it needs to look like a music
magazine and it is vital that it looks clean and professional so that people will
look at it and be attracted to it. This of course means that more people will
buy it. The mood board essentially just contains everything I may use or gain
inspiration from when creating the music magazine. This allows me to
organize and know what needs to be done and added. Therefor my magazine
will be more likely to appeal to the target audience.
9. Hand drawn draft front cover - CM
These are my two front
cover drafts for CM. I will
most likely be going with
the one on the left.
10. Hand drawn draft front cover – FS
magazine
These are my two front
cover drafts for FS. I am
unlikely to use either of
these as the ones for CM
are better.
12. Hand drawn drafts conclusion
Hand drawn drafts are a good way in which I can get down what I am
thinking. I am able to draw what id like my music magazines cover and DPS to
look like and then be able to use it as a template to essentially make the front
cover.
They are also good as it is very easy to make a quick change if need be, for
example if you draw it out and don’t like where you placed the puff
promotion for example, you can easily rub it out (as long as its been done in
pencil) and do it again.
I have chosen to go with the CM front cover (the one on the left).

17. Graphic layout conclusion
The graphic layout, similar to the hand drawn draft gives an accurate
representation of what my front cover and DPS may look like. It is more
accurate as its in a computer and not done freehand, so the graphic layout is
much easier to do and anyone could do it as its just putting shapes in place.
As its been done on a computer, it is more of a template which I am able to
use to create my front cover and DPS. This makes it much easier for me to
make my front cover and DPS look good as I will know where I am putting
everything, so the magazine as a whole will end up looking more professional
and organized.
18. House style (CM)
Colour scheme
The colours in which I will use will mainly be yellow, grey and red. With an easily readable font
style so it attracts more readers, since the color red attracts they eye and connotes importance,
since whenever there is something important, such as a stop sign it is red, telling people how
important it is and attracting their eye.
Font Style
I will be using Garamond font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine.
This is because Garamond font is great for large bodies of text. Secondly, my Masthead will have
Trajan font as it is very clear and bald font with block capitals (based on Roman square capitals),
this attracts they eye and inclines the reader to read on.
Social media
The magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example Snapchat,
Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many people
are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.
19. House style (FS)
Colour scheme
The colour in which I will use for FS are red, white and a metallic grey. With white font. This will make it
really easy to read the text and the black background to most of my pages will make any other colours I
use pop out more, which attracts a wide audience as it will catch their eye.
Font Style
I will be using Helvetica font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine. This is
because many professionals use it. This Is because it is very easy to read and looks professional. For my
Masthead, I will be using Futura as it is often seen on large displays where small text is needed. This will
be opening up the text in Helvetica as it will really stand out on the page and attract the reader the read
the entire article.
Social media
Similar to CM, this magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example
Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many
people are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.
20. Font styles
I like these fonts for my masthead as they are not too complicated and they are simple
so are easy on the eye. Yet they still attract the eyes as they are all something
different, which can interest the consumer. They are not too boring nor too
complicated, so people will like the look as it is not in-professional, which can attract a
wider audience as more people may feel comfortable reading it.
21. Font styles conclusion
I have chosen these two fonts for my two magazine ideas as they are the ones
which look the most professional for a magazine and I feel the boldness
attracts the audiences eyes so they are more likely to see the magazine and
perhaps buy it. I did not pick the other four ideas as I just felt like they would
not work with my magazine front cover and would look unprofessional, which
makes the audience less likely to purchase my magazine.
22. Conclusion
In conclusion, I now have a clear idea on what my magazine is
going to look like, feature and be structured. By setting out mood
boards, images of influence and drafts, I have an accurate
representation of how my magazine is going to look when it is
done. The mood boards and images of influence gave me a great
overview on the what my magazine should feature, what colours
should be used, the genre etc. The drafts gave me a good idea on
how my magazine should look. This means that when it come to
actually creating the front cover I know what I am doing,
allowing organization and a professional looking front cover,
which is vital.
