This document discusses Fair Use Week from February 22-26 and provides information about fair use. Fair use is important as it allows unlicensed use of copyrighted works to promote freedom of expression and the creation of new culture. There are four factors that determine fair use: purpose and character of the use, nature of the copyrighted work, amount of the work used, and the effect on the potential market. Examples of fair use include music mashups, documentary films using archival footage, video game playthroughs on YouTube, and appropriation art. The document also provides examples of fair use from Carnegie Mellon University students and resources for finding copyright-friendly music, video and images as well as learning more about fair use.
