Everyone’s enemy: social media

Main area of activity
I will be making a fan made magazine about the negative sides of too much use of social media or
the negative aspect of the use of social media being normalised in everyday life.
Target Audience
Yes, I have my project is about social media which fits the target audience of this project as these
late teenagers and mid 20s adults are the main age group that use social media and as some
people of the target audience have being actively been on social media for a couple of years and
have seen the growing popularity of social media and have seen the positive but also the negative
side of the growth of the use of social media.
Rationale:
This year for my last year of media I decided to focus on the print aspect of media, as focusing on
film and developing my film skills. I have decided that this year to develop my graphic design skills
as I know that I am lacking in some areas of graphic design, and I have started to enjoy doing
graphic design instead of film. So far with the products have made in graphic design are in my
experiment section and from what I have created and comparing to my previous work I have
produced in other such as my posters and magazine covers, there has been a slight improvement
in my ending products, although it is not perfect but my skills have already gotten better with help
of YouTube videos or asking assistance from my peers whenever I am stuck on editing something
on Photoshop. With the use of experiments, I have done currently, in my previous experiments in
previous projects in the use of print/graphic design, with doing more practicing and developing my
graphic design skills outside sessions and lastly with the help of YouTube videos are the ways I
will be acquiring my less developed skills in print. The most similar product I have made in relation
to my current project is making a magazine cover Adventure Project and the ending result of the
magazine wasn’t good in my opinion and I could’ve and should’ve done more as the overall look to
the magazine wasn’t great and I definitely need to do better for the current project fanzine front
cover.
Project Concept:
The main concept of my fan made magazine will be bringing awareness to the negative side to
social media and how consuming too social media can affect young children, teen, and adults as
they develop and affect various parts of that audience’s life’s. I will design the pages in a simplistic
but very on trend where I am targeting the age group 16–24-year-olds as I design my pages to
make aesthetically pleasing for audience, as I have an several ideas on how I could present my
fanzine because I am part of that age group, and I am too a very invested teenager that is on
social media quite a lot of the time. The research I have done to gain more knowledge on the topic
of social media and making a fanzine, I had gone on the website called ‘issuu.com’ where people
have uploaded their own fanzines or small creators have uploaded their own online magazine, I
mainly tried searching for fanzines but in search for fanzines a lot of them where in different
languages so I ended up analysing relatively small magazines when writing about the research I
discovered on the existing products why did I like these 3 magazines and what aspects of
magazines would take inspiration from will enforce into my own product. Resch about social media
and the negative effects I am still researching although with the current research I’m doing for is
finding statistics about different negative effects of social, information about why too much use of
social media I bad and how resolve issues.
With my fanzine I won’t be taking my own photos I will be editing them on Photoshop to make
them my own design in relation to social media an to help me develop my skills or find out how to
do certain things in photo editing of using tools on Photoshop with the use of YouTube will help
me.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will be evaluating my own work also progress in my production with weekly or at the end of the
college day reflections, if I cannot do daily reflections, I will focus a lot more onto doing weekly
reflections. With doing reflections in general I will be expressing what went well and what went
wrong in process of making my fanzine. This reflecting will help a lot more as go onto other project
in this year will be uploading all of my work onto portfolio section on my Wix website.
