Jessica proposes creating a 12-page fanzine about the fashion industry and social media's impact on women aged 16-24. She will research existing fanzines and online sources to inform her project. Over 5 weeks, Jessica will plan layouts in Photoshop, add articles and interviews, and evaluate her work through a reflective diary and PowerPoint. Her goal is to raise awareness of issues like how women are portrayed and how social media affects mental health, while providing facts and ways to enact change.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Project proposal title and date:
Social Media and Fashion Revolution 29/09/2021
Main area of activity
The main area of activity which I will be producing is a fanzine as the medium I am working
in is print and the subject will be based on the fashion industry and social media.
Target Audience
My target audience is aimed at 16-24 women this is because it relates towards how women
are portrayed in the fashion industry, and I will be talking a lot about female modelswhich
would more likely appeal to women because this could relate towards themselves.
However, I will also include social media and this specific age range are more likely using
social media every single day and may be more intrigued to know more about the effects
rather than someone older who isn’t interested in the socials.
Rationale:
Throughout the years at college of studying media I have made a few products such as
websites, magazine covers, two page spread and also video related products the main skill
which I have learned is the layouts plans and how to put theses products together (what
looks good where) for example putting together a front cover page is very important as that
is the first thing an audience sees so it is important to put it together correctly and that it
looks realistic and professional. I have also learnt certain colour schemes and which match
well with what type of audience you are relating to therefore I can use these main skills for
my fanzine because I will need t plan out my layouts for each page including my front cover
and I will be able to do this in a short time by knowing how to present a page well.my
previous similar production was in my first year of level 3 my FMP which is similar because
I related this to fashion and created magazineswhich I can now look back on for my
inspiration for my fanzine as the subject focus is similar.
Project Concept:
The concept of my project is to raise awareness of what is really going on behind the
fashion industry that no one sees and how women are treated and objectified through
social media which then also links to how I am raising awareness of the effects social
media brings to teens but also adults and how it effects many people’s mental health to
look or be a certain standard. Whilst I am doing this, I also want to give out facts to my
audience which will be related on these subjects and try get my audience involved in ways
they can help and make a change even through social media itself. I will be producing this
information on a fanzine including 12 pages. I will need to conduct research which includes
looking into existing products of fanzines which are related on fashion and social media
this is because I can then get even more ideas and see how they have produced their
layouts and design but also what kind of facts they give out to the audience (type of
interview etc.)I can also conduct research which is looking onto different websites to find
out basic facts upon fashion but also watch videos via YouTube as I know a lot of fashion
industries produce videos or even vlogs from models ‘a day in the life’ to see the behinds
of their life which will become helpful to find out more research.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed?
I plan to evaluate my work by keeping a production reflection diary for once I get to creating
my fanzine which will help me reflect and understand issues which went well, and which
haven’t so therefore I can look back on this diary when I move onto my other products to
make sure I am not making the same mistakes and I will learn new things. Another way my
project will be evaluated is from my evaluation PowerPoint which I will reflect on after I
finish my fanzine. This will not only help with how I evaluate but also will help how I
improve overtime and I will become better in specific areasfor ongoing projects after this.

Week Specific Tasks
1 Production The first week of my production will consist
of gathering together all my ideas and
planning to how many pages I will be
including and also when I will plan these
things, I will then move straight into
photoshop because I want to have an early
starting with my fanzine covers so I am not
then catching up on my last week I will be
using photoshop in this week and mainly
focus on my front cover and back cover
because this will then direct me on how my
other pages need to be themed e.g. colour
schemes and image ideas. I will also be
keeping a reflective diary for each day I
complete any production (Wednesday,
Thursday & Fridays) and take screenshots
along the way so I can then look back on my
progress when it comes to my evaluation. In
my first week I also want to have a go at
writing out some articles and finding
information on the internet which will apply to
my chosen ideas.
2 Production Moving onto my second week of production I want
to really focus my time with Photoshop and by this
stage I want to have at least 4 or 5 pages completed
as I will need a minimum of 12 in total I will also be
looking back on other PowerPoints I created to find
my layout plans which make it a lot easier for me to
hopefully by this point my pages will be linked
together for example all the illustration will be one
theme of just lips or both eye and lips (this creates a
theme).in this weekI want to also focus on how my
pages will get my audience involved so I want to
have my two pages of my hashtag done in this week
which shouldn’t take me as long because it is mostly
designing and quotes, I will also take my time to

look for inspiration this is something which I like to
do like looking for more quotes or existing fanzines.
3 Production (half term) Week 3 this week will be my half term week which
will be less work that I will produce as I won’t be
able to use photoshop without being in college
therefore I am glad I am pre-planning this and I can
focus back onto my planning just to make sure I am
up to date with all my previous work and
PowerPoints I can focus on adding more into my
research for example subject research and really
finding my audience research as well. I want to also
focus on making more improvements with my other
bits like my proposal or experimentsto see what
more I can add onto this. As I will also have more
spare time in this week I think this would be the
best week to start on my interview and plan out my
interview for how I will conduct this (most likely
over the phone) once I have the interview I can also
spend the rest of the week writing up my interview
and planning out how these pages will look when it
comes to making them on my 4th week back. Whilst I
am doing all this I will still be reflecting on my work
in my journal and collecting together screenshots of
every improvements I make on when I receive my
feedback before half term.
4+5 Production Moving onto my final week of production I want to
focus on completing my final pages which at this
point should be two pages of my interview and 4
more pages of fashion related articles as I will have
completed my social media pages this should then
add up to 12 pages in total. Coming back from half
term the first thing I will complete is putting my
interview into those pages and then putting all my
pages together which I want to use the flipbook
maker as I am having my fanzine online and not
printing it this will make it look a lot more
presentable and professional. In this last week I will
also take time to add any last improvements and
then move onto my evaluation. This will include
writing up about how my fanzine went what things I
could have done better for next time I can also add
in my reflective journal by the end of this week
which should be finished and include ,any
screenshots of my progress and how I got to m y
final outcome which will be a bonus for my
evaluation. Once I have finished all of this, I will
upload all of my work onto my blogger and also use
SlideShare for my PowerPoints.
