Persuasive Essay On Driving Age
Writing a persuasive essay on the topic of the driving age can be both challenging and thought-
provoking. Firstly, one needs to thoroughly research and understand the various perspectives
surrounding the issue. It involves delving into statistical data, studying accident reports, and
exploring the psychological and physiological aspects of human development related to driving
skills. Additionally, one must consider societal norms, cultural differences, and legal implications,
making it a multifaceted and intricate subject.
Crafting a compelling argument demands a careful selection of evidence and logical reasoning to
persuade the audience. Balancing emotional appeal with factual accuracy is crucial to engage
readers and make a lasting impact. The task becomes more complex when addressing
counterarguments, as it requires anticipating and refuting opposing viewpoints effectively.
The challenge lies not only in presenting a well-reasoned argument but also in maintaining a
coherent structure throughout the essay. Developing a clear introduction that captures the
reader's attention, constructing a persuasive body with well-organized paragraphs, and
concluding with a strong, memorable statement necessitate both skill and finesse.
Moreover, expressing thoughts eloquently and maintaining a persuasive tone without sounding
overly biased is an art. Striking the right balance between passion and objectivity is essential to
ensure the essay is both convincing and respectful.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on the driving age demands thorough research,
analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. It is a task that requires dedication, time,
and attention to detail to create an impactful piece. If you find yourself struggling or need

Representation Of Women In The Movie Grease
The 1978 movie Grease, tells a story of two young teenagers who fall in love with
each other during their summer vacation. Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy
Olsson (Olivia Newton John) meet at the beach during a 1950s summer. As the
season ends, however, the teenagers realize that their secret romance will also have
to come to a close, as Sandy has to return home to Australia. The two think that they
will never see each other again but in a twist of fate Sandy s parents decide to stay
in America where Sandy would finish her senior high school year. As Sandy enrolls
in the Rydell High School, neither one of the young lovers is aware that they are
attending the same school as the semester begins. When the teenagers finally reunite,

Enzyme Concentration Lab Report
Enzyme Concentration: Cuvette 2 gradually increased every twenty seconds for
two minutes and contained 1 milliliter of the enzyme (figure 1). Cuvette 3 slowly
increased but was a bit faster than cuvette 2 every twenty seconds for two minutes
and contained 2 milliliters of the enzyme (figure 1). Cuvette 4 was started lower
then cuvette 2 and 3 then made a significant increase every twenty seconds for two
minutes and contained 4 milliliters of enzyme (figure 1). The average rate of
absorbance for cuvette 2, 3, and 4 were .0013 au per second, .0028 au per seconds,
and .0041 au per second. Temperature: Cuvette 2, 5, and 6 all slightly increases

Figure 3 The effect of pH on enzyme activity every twenty seconds for two minutes.
Cuvette 2 had a pH of 8 (acidic), Cuvette 9 had a pH of 7 (neutral), and Cuvette 11
had a pH of 11 (basic). Interpretation The purpose of this experiment was to find out
the effect of temperature, pH, and enzyme concentration on enzyme activity every
twenty seconds for two minutes. Enzymes are a proteins in the body made up of
amino acids. They are capable of catalyzing the chemical reactions that occur in
your body. Enzymes connect to substrates and breaks the substrate down to
chemical products far more quickly than the random chemical reactions that
would have occurred without the enzyme. The enzymes in the cuvette consist of 1
drop of guaiacol, 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide, and 2.8 ml of pH 7 buffer. Each
cuvette had their own conditions that set them apart from each other. Cuvette 2
which was the control for this experiment had 1 ml of the enzyme used in the
experiment, was kept in 23 degrees Celsius and had a pH of 8. Cuvette 3 had 2 ml of
the enzyme, was also kept in 23 degrees Celsius and had a pH of 8. Cuvette 4 had 4
ml of the enzyme, was kept in 23 degrees

Sample Responses to Questions on A Talk to Teachers by James Baldwin
1. In the opening paragraph, Baldwin establishes his ethos by connecting himself
to his audience as a fellow citizen and fellow American, someone who loves his
country and wants it to be whole and healthy. Though he identifies the chief fear of
his audience as the fear of Communist, he proposes that the ore fearful aspect of
American society of the early 1960s is the bad faith and cruelty of generations.
Baldwin builds credibility with his audience by recognizing teachers as powerful
people who deal with the minds and hearts of young people. His audience senses
that he as a deep respect for what teachers do each day. He ... Show more content on

he is talking about. His vivid imagery appeals to the listeners senses. Baldwin
deepens his credibility with his audience of teachers as a person who has lived

Most Common Orthopedic Surgeries
What are the top most common Orthopedic Surgeries?
The Orthopedic Surgery involves treatment of the conditions of muscles as well as
skeletons through surgical methods. Initially, the orthopedic surgeons try to treat the
ailment with non surgical methods, but in the cases of failures of such methods the
orthopedic problems are then treated through surgical methods. There are many types
of treatments that a surgeon performs on its patients according to their problem, but
there are some procedures that are noted as the most common. Here are 4 most
common orthopedic surgeries:

Spine surgery can be performed for a number of problems. The most common
problem treated by the spine surgery is the back pain that impairs their day to day
Cisco Systems
Analysis
Company background (Cisco Systems):
Cisco Systems is a world leading company in the switches and router market.
Established in 1984 by a Stanford University couple, IT administrators Len Bosack
and Sandy Lerner. Ina short period after founding, it became one of the most
successful companies in high technology industry. In Cisco, manufacturing of its
switches and router was outsourced, the company focused on core competencies:
product design and development. Indirect sales and distribution through resellers
became the major sales channel in the end of 1990 s; its Value Added Reseller
(VAR) was the most successful indirect sales channel strategy at that time. In later
1990s, Cisco had ever been the world s most valuable company, ... Show more

Because of its technology, Consumers are increasingly well informed, with the advent
of internet technology which allows them to gather a great deal of information before
making the choice to hire one product/service or another, according to their needs.
Successful companies are increasingly turning to marketing to find niches spaces in
the consumer consciousness in an effort to increase customer reaction by treating
them as individuals with specific sets of needs. Company websites may offer
specialized services that cover a wide range of possible targets in an effort to induce
these more empowered customers to find value, displaying the loyalty that stems
from satisfaction. The relationship between the consumer and the business is no
longer necessarily determined entirely by the politics and media in this new age of
marketing and the internet, which could afford to offer a sort of one size fits all
package prior to macro environmental reform initiatives that made the market more
competitive and therefore individualized towards people s needs. Successful and
forward thinking companies in the digital age must now concentrate on building
profitable relationships with their customers, just as in any business.
Markets and Competitors:
As I mentioned before, Cisco was mainly competing in three big markets.

Protein Chromatography
Protein properties are directly affected by their environment, which depends on pH,
temperature, solvent effects, and pressure. With these affects has come more desire
for better techniques in the purification and separation processes. These processes
hopefully will prevent loss of biological activity and denaturation. With ion exchange
chromatographycomes many advantages over column chromatography such as union
between the target proteinand functional groups at a very quick rate, exponential

and a multitude of other things (Santos et al. 2012). Ion exchange chromatography in

The first included Cibacron Blue Sepharose CL 6B, proteins, and egg white
lysozyme. They tested the proteins and egg whites binding ability to the Cibacron
Blue. To make matters easier, they only searched for absorption of pure proteins
from 0.05 M Tris HCl buffer, pH 7.2. This was achieved by eluting the absorbed
proteins with 1M KCl In in 0.05 M Tris HCl buffer. The second type included
immobilized monoclonal antibodies and the absorption of E. Coli B galactosidase
against B galactosidase. This was chosen due to the simplicity of measuring the
activity of B galactosidase that could then tell us the concentration of the antigen.
The only downside to this approach was B galactosidase has a much higher
molecular weight that most antigens commonly used by this method. This means
the large molecule will have trouble penetrating the pores in the immuno
absorbents. This was done by immobilizing the antibodies on a silica based
adsorbent, which was then added to PBS buffer. The buffer contained antibodies.
The flask they were in was then shaken for four hours, followed by removal of all
the unreacted protein that was done by using a funnel with sodium chloride
solution. To wash the gel they used propionic acid and then stored the adsorbent in
PBS buffer. Finally to elute the absorbed B galactosidase, they used 6 M urea in 20

Whaling African Americans
Whaling
Whaling was very physical and economic business and the primary products were
spermaceti, whale bones, sperm, and whale oil. The Native Americans used whaling
for tribal purposes. The colonist in NEw ENgland hunted whales for baleen and oil.
Whaling also gave them better burning candles. This is how the number of hales
began to decrease as time went on.
Moreover, whales were hunted for mainly oil, because of this, colonists were hunting
whales for half a century. To make the oil they carried pots on their ships, they would
cook the oil after they hunted the whale and they put them in barrels. Since the oil
was extremely hot, it wouldn t spoil, so it was good for long voyages. Whale teeth
were also used. The sailors would use the teeth to pass the time. They made things for

Baleen whales have long strips (baleen) used to strain out krill from the sea water.
Baleen is used in corset stays, umbrella ribls, carriage springs, and fishing poles. It s
also made of kerotin, which is the same substances in our nails. If it wasn t cleaned
properly, it would have a horrible stench, which lowered the cost.
Another thing that whales gave colonist where candles. They were a primary
source for the colonists, the candles burned brighter than oil lamps and they didn t

only few whales have them. Once removed, it becomes hard and lighter. But since it
was so rare, they only used it for perfume,
Colonists were hunting whales so often that by the 1700 s whales were nearly
extinct. Since they were close to extinction colonists had to travel far in order to hunt
them. In 1712 there was a whale that colonist discovered that was plentiful in oil, so
colonists targeted the whale for nearly half a century. By the 1700s New Bedford
Massachusetts was the place where the majority of the colonists went to hunt. Most
of the trips to hunt whales were in the South

The Tyranny Of Tonality Analysis
In the words of Jewish Austrian composer and painter Arnold Schoenberg; or
Schönberg, harmony was freed from the tyranny of tonality . Schoenberg s term is
interesting in its suggestion that the tonal system exerts an overpowering pressure to
conform. The carefully ordered hierarchal keys; with its singularity, central focus on
each movement or work, and tonal centres that made up the tonality of centuries old
harmonic basis of musicbecame of less importance and had outlived its usefulness as
atonality; which is a system without key that is deliberately avoided gained
popularity. This music utilizes several chromatic notes with the intention of hearing
no tonal centers.
Later commentators spoke similarly of music being emancipated

The Raven Essay
Poe s Composition of the Raven
Edgar Allen Poe describes in great detail, his poem The Raven , in The Philosophy
of Composition. Never before had I been able to read a poet describe in his own
philosophy of making a poem. Poe goes in deep context and meaning to how he
derives the story line to his poem. He explains what significance the raven plays in
the poem and the beauty of his intent in the poem.
Poe, first thought of an impression or effect he would like to suppress upon the
reader. In this case, he chose beauty as the sole intent of his poem. Second he
wanted to find a tone, which would express his view of beauty throughout the poem.
His choice of tone was sadness because he believed beauty excites ... Show more

His next idea was to think of a creature that could believably speak such a word, but
still keep the intent of the tone of sadness and melancholy. He first thought of the
obvious, which was a parrot, but decided a raven to be a better creature for such a
tone.
Once these features had been derived, he needed bases for the poem. In the case of
beauty, he believed a dead lover to be the beauty. Poe writes, the death, then, of a
beautiful women is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world (1576). On
the other hand, Poe figured what better then the dead lovers, existing
Aylieff 2 partner, who is forced to live in agonyof death, to be the sadness. The way
he puts the poem together, by having the beginning at the end, where all works of art
should begin (1577) is very intriguing, and shows the thinking of Poe and his work.
As he puts the poem together, he interprets the raven to the bereaved lover as being
lost in the storm. The raven, looking for shelter ends up at the window of the
chambers where the bereaved lover is sulking in his loss. The poem takes shape from
there, in Poe s own ingenious.
Through the encounters of the raven to the lost lover, is how the lover reveals to
the reader his thoughts and feelings. Poe s use of characters is unique and is
formatted to the story beautifully. Poe s way of writing poetry and his originality of
ideas for a poem, contributes to his uniqueness among poets in his time.
Citizen Kane Meaning Essay
The use of lighting in this film was very pretentious and was used to add good
aspects to Citizen Kane. The lighting changed based off what the mood
corresponded for example, some scenes had a copacetic or pleasant mood. In the
beginning, the scene was a very formidable scene. The lighting was dark which
portrayed fear towards the audience. The mood was implying fear and almost an
alarming mood for the viewers the lighting helped entail this by giving dark, hair
raising lighting. The type of lighting they used in this particular scene was not frontal
lighting, but actually the exact opposite they used backlighting. Not just the opening
scene included lighting that imposed horror to the audience, there were other scenes
that used a type of lighting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lighting also helped the audience recognize there was a storm occurring which
can also help portray fear. Another scene that had great lighting that impacted the
story was the party scene . This scene was the scene where people sat around the
table, toasting and one man stood up shouting should we take Spain to war? . I
noticed that the lighting in the beginning of the scene was darker but as soon as the
band hit the first few beats, the lighting grew much brighter, showing the mood of
this particular scene was upbeat and happy. This scene was also much brighter (and
mood) than the opening scene where the lighting and mood were dark. Overall, the
lighting in this film was very well done whether it showed the dark and fearful mood
or to portray a storm or something along the lines of that. The lighting also did
change throughout the film primarily to correspond the mood if it was supposed to
cause fear in viewers, the lighting was darker and made the characters look more
sinister like in the scene where Kane held the snow globe while murmuring rose

Compare And Contrast Pzarro And Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro managed to bring down the administration and
basic structure of the Aztec Empire and Inca Empire with only a few hundred men by
utilizing various advantages that they possessed. Both men had far superior
weaponry than the natives that they fought however the natives could have countered
this with just sheer numbers and utilizing the terrain that they knew so well. What
really allowed these men to dominate their enemies was their strategies and
experience. Both men were also aided by the diseases that they brought with them,
devastating the native population for decades. Hernan Cortes was a Spanish
Conquistadorwho dreamed of riches, a title of nobility, and fame. He planned to
obtain these by leading an expedition into the New World. Spaniard s dreamed that
conquering Mexico would give them great wealth and Cortes as able to do this. He
conquered parts of Mexico and caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Cortes was so

Due to the native s total isolation from the rest of the civilized world, they had been
prevented from developing immunities against many devastating diseases. These
diseases were carried into the country unaware by the conquistadors from Europe
and Africa. For example, smallpox reached Espanola by 1518 and was carried to
New Spain in 1520. It then moved through Central America and entered Peru by
1527. Wherever the disease passed, it left a detrimental death toll in its wake. There
are many accounts of villages that lost half or more of their population, some even
lost as high as 90% of their population. Many more disease continued to slowly
decimate the natives, such as measles typhus, influenza, yellow fever, malaria
diphtheria and the bubonic plague. Within the next 100 year of disease, the native s
population became less than 10% what it was in the
My Experience In Counselling
My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back
then I was a part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling,
back then it was my last option but I can still look back and say that I took that
decision on my own and I was prepared to face resistance which I did, in the form of
my parents who thought that it was an option for people who had gone mad .
Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my absolute
disappointment, the sessionwas useless and at times even offensive to me. The
counsellor asked me my age and started telling a long list of problems I may be
facing. She didn t stop there and then asked me about my weight and any problems
that I may be having... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of which are issues that are personal to me, I realise that there are
experiences in my past that may hinder me as a counsellor the most important of
which is my inability to maintain eye contact with another person which wasn t an
issue in the past years but in the counselling session might convey a very negative
impression to the client for they may interpret it as my disinterest. This issue has
prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and
importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also
realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with
or without you being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work
on expect this and the major among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still
need to develop various professional skills that I will be required to employ in the
counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my course. The
most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs about
counselling, for a long time I didn t realise that despite being trained for becoming
a counsellor I never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the
last option, a choice you make when all else fails and also that with time things
will eventually get better and you don t need therapy to work through it. Both of
these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge
of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing
a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if
proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve
things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in
comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely

Blitzkrieg Essay
Blitzkrieg
The word Blitz itself is a shortened form of the German word Blitzkrieg meaning
lightening war, it means a heavy bombing attack from the air. It is often used to
describe the German air raids on London in 1940, but many other cities were also
blitzed. It was widely believed that Britain would be heavily bombed immediately
after the war was declared and huge amounts of deaths and injuries were expected
with mass burials planned and 1,250,000 cardboard coffins were produced. However
these figures were completely inaccurate as they were based on when the Luftwaffe

He believed that this would dampen spirits and break morale to such an extent that

excuse Hitler used to justify the Blitz was that he was bombing military targets.
The Blitz also attempted to destroy industry, with London docks being bombed
often and the Luftwaffe also tried to hit railway lines, junctions, power stations and
gas holders, but the bombing was felt worst of all by the working class near city
centres. The Blitz also affected the life of children with many of them being
uprooted and evacuated to the countryside, some with their mothers, some without.
Around 1,500,000 people were evacuated at the start of the Blitz, which had a
massive effect on people s lives and many lifestyles being completely turned around.
Children from the city were often very skinny and undernourished and when they
were evacuated often had much more food, and much healthier food to keep them
strong. Some would go home looking completely different to how they looked when
they went. Those that stayed in the cities were bothered by ARP wardens checking
for air raid precautions, the wardens were often accused of interfering. Along with
household precautions there were also air raid shelters, but many people didn t have
them and went into tube stations during raids. The raids affected everybody s lives,

For instance,
Emperor Nero is reported to have engaged in a marriage ceremony with one of his
male slaves. Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles.
It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus
and a civis Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman
citizen), so that a so called marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave)
would have no legal standing in Roman law (apart, presumably, from the arbitrary
will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases). Furthermore, matrimonium is
an institution involving a mother, mater.
The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in
matrimonium ducere, so that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal
validity notwithstanding, there is a consensus among modern historians that same
sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the exact frequency and nature of same
sex unions during that period is obscure.
In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the
Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering
execution for those so married.
The first documented same sex marriage was between the two men Pedro DГaz and
MuГ±o Vandilaz, in the Galician municipality of Rairiz de Veiga in Spain, on April

The Enigma Machine In Ralphie s The Christmas Story
Ralphie s secrete message , from The Christmas Story, that he received from the

When the rotors turn, the battery will be connected to a different bulb lighting up
a different letter each time . If A is typed in once it may appear as Q but then if it
is typed again it may appear as a R . This is all due to the turning rotors and the
criss cross wires completing the circuit in a different way each time.To add to the
complexity of the code the electriacal circiut is not sent though the rotors once but
twice with the use of the reflector. The reflector basically takes the letter it was
given after it went though the fist time of rotors and sends it back out as another
letter and then that letter goes through the rotors again. After the electrical current
went through the rotors twice it will go down to the plug board again. So if our
initial letter of T comes back out of the rotor as Q the Q will continue down to the
plug board and switch with whatever letter Q is matched with. The final result of

Analysis Of Michael Chorost s My Bionic Quest For Bolero
God creates every day and every day is a miracle. The New Oxford Dictionary
defines a miracle as, a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by
natural or scientific laws and is, therefore, considered to be the work of a divine
agency. Everything that is experienced from morning until night is a miracle.
Though these marvels are amazing, they are taken for granted. Things like
listening to music, walking, talking, smelling, and living are all Gods miracles and
are all taken for granted. All these gifts from God are forgotten or regarded as a
given like they will always be there, they will never go away. But what happens
when they aren t there? For some people, that s called every day. In Michael
Chorost s My Bionic Quest for BolГ©ro revealed that Chorost could not listen to
music, let alone take it for granted. There are many others who have a similar or
the same obstacle, as in they do not have one or more of their five senses. This can
make daily living difficult and unenjoyable. Making regular activities or
participation in everyday life impossible. Further research should be invested in
helping people revel in the joy of everyday miracles. When taking part in a seemingly
uncomplicated task for the first time and being quote on quote normal with normal
experiences, even something wonderfully mundane can bring immense joy. New

It felt like to me as if the days seemed to trudge on, never getting anywhere. I sat up

Bbc3 Unit 9 Final Project
12 year old BBC3TV s trust company has approved the plan to make the channel an
online only entity. Due to BBC3TV s failing revenue, the the BBC Corporation will
essentially be saving about ВЈ30m ($46m) a year. The channel, which was targeted
towards the 16 to 34 year old demographic, was unable to do so.
In its first major decision since Rona Fairhead was appointed as chair of the trust
last September, the regulator recognised the clear long term potential in moving
online, but admitted there were clear concerns about the loss of services to the key
age group, as well as the BBC s ability to try out new ideas and develop new talent.
Alternately, the trust rejected another proposal to launch a new BBC1+1 channel in

Pros And Cons Of The American Dream
Can young adults today still fulfill their American Dream? This is something that
is being questioned across the nation and everyone has a different opinion. In
America Now edited by Robert Atwan, Barack Obama and other journalists state
their opinion on the American Dream explaining whether it is still possible today.
The American Dream defined as the ideal that every US citizen should have an
equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work,
determination, and initiative. Whether the American Dream is possible or not
varies from each person, but in my experience, I believe it can be accomplished. A
vast amount of students are attending college, either a community college or a four
year college, making it possible for them to prosper. A lot of first generation
students are seen across college campuses; I am one of those students. Student aid
such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid makes it possible for students
from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds afford college. Parents and the
students do not have to deal with the burden of trying to pay for the full cost of
attendance of college. For this reason, ... college enrollment has been rising since
2007 as well (Tushnet 354). Students going to college get to choose their field of
study. By giving them this ability, they have more motivation to seek success and
work hard towards their goal. As a first generation student, my American Dream is to

Osteoporosis A Disease That Affects The Human Body

The world is rapidly growing, with billions of people present on this planet. Aging
in human life is one of the inevitable things. As we grow older there are physical,
psychological and social changes that accompany it. There are various diseases that
affect these changes; they are osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, type 2
diabetes, alzheimer s disease and hypertension. This paper is going to focus on
osteoporosisa disease that can initially weaken the human body without any
indications. Osteoporosis according to WHO is a skeletal disease that is
characterized by low bonemass and bone tissue deterioration, which results in bone
fragility and susceptibility to fracture (Walker, 2010). Although this disease was

Lastly, the RNAO best practice guidelines were used to find information about
prevention and maintaining osteoporosis. Unfortunately, no articles were provided
specifically about osteoporosis, so related terms were used, such as the potential
negative outcomes of this disease; like falls and fractures. About five articles
matched the search term, and it provided information about the ways to prevent falls,
and the people who are mostly at risk.
Epidemiology of the Disease Many modifiable factors have been associated with
people developing chronic diseases like osteoporosis. Factors such as obesity;
when the individual s body cannot carry the extra weight, causes weakness in the
leg bones. Also Hypertension is a condition, which has become very common
among not only older adults, but young and middle aged individuals as well.
These factors can be avoided if one takes into consideration the quality and quantity
of what is consumed and which health factors are associated with it. Along with
modifiable factors, there are also unmodifiable factors as well such as genetic
inheritance, advancing in age and being exposed to toxic environmental substances,
like second hand smoking. According to Statistics Canada the prevalence of the
disease is 19.2% of women and 3.4% of men aged 50 and older have been reported of
being diagnosed with osteoporosis as of 2009 (Statistics Canada, 2011). Studies have
shown that at least

contended that both it and the seller intended at the time of their con tract to be

that the largest portion of its damages stemmed from the loss of an orally bargained

The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage Essay
The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage
AFTER GAY MARRIAGE, what will become of marriage itself? Will same sex
matrimony extend marriage s stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage
undermine family life? A lot is riding on the answers to these questions. But the
media s reflexive labeling of doubts about gay marriage as homophobia has made it
almost impossible to debate the social effects of this reform. Now with the Supreme
Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas, that debate is
unavoidable.
Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to
legalized polygamy and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). Marriage will be
transformed into a variety of relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social
effects of gay matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual
unions will become more stable. Yet another faction of gay rights advocates
actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the abolition of marriage itself. This
group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the slide down.
To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself
poses no danger to the institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it
will usher in legalized polygamy and polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly
weaken the belief that monogamy lies at the heart of marriage. But to see why this
is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery slope.
Promoting polygamy
DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which
affirmed the ability of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition
from same sex marriages, gay marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the
polygamy question. If gays had a right to marry, why not polygamists? Andrew
Sullivan, one of gay marriage s most intelligent defenders, labeled the question fear
mongering akin to the discredited belief that interracial marriage would lead to birth
defects. quot;To the best of my knowledge, quot; said Sullivan, quot;there is no
Essay on Homer and Sappho
HUM 300 Classical Humanities
March 1, 2013 Sappho s poem, entitled Fragment 16, is of the lyrical style instead
of the epic style we are used to in Homer s Iliad. The lyrical style of poetry got its
name because it was usually accompanied by a lyre while it was recited. It also was
used to express more emotion rather than telling a story. This form of poetry seems
to be more artistic rather than the story telling of epic poetry of the time. In this poem
we are able to use the comparison of different imagery to understand a common
theme within the poem itself. The reason for the interesting title of the poem is
because most of Sappho s poetry is now only found in fragmented forms. Most of

Perhaps this is what the Greek cavalry looked like riding off to war. This could be
considered the glorification of the warrior or the athlete of the times, which is also
shown in vase paintings and sculptor works. Also note that Sappho gives a
historical aspect to the poem with mention of Helen, who was considered to be the
most beautiful woman ever according to myth. Her beauty is being compared to the
beauty of the army in Fragment 16. These are believes that Greeks hold in moral
and ideals of their society. I personally love this poem for the idea of love and beauty
that is in the eyes of the beholder. The fact that Sappho ties the culture and their
stories of history along with her idea of beauty into one piece allows me to also
think about what I might consider beautiful. And that beauty isn t just beauty but
it is love and respect. While I would never find beauty in anything war related I m
sure I d have a different view if I lived during that time period but I can actually find
a relation in myself to the people of Sappho s time because of her work. I can
imagine standing in awe of the army marching away to war as well as being in awe
of a beautiful queen. While I find beauty in the ocean I m sure I d find beauty in the

The Ministry Of Jesus Changed Society, Religion, And The...
The ministry of Jesus changed society, religion, and the world forever. During his
short ministry, Jesus had a clear task, teach and preach the Kingdom of God on
earth. Within this kingdom, a higher standard of living was preached; sickness was
outlawed, needs were supplied, demoniacs were set free, and religion was superseded
by love. To accomplish this mission, Jesusselected a few good men and turned them
into disciples. They would be the ones, after his ascension, that would carry the
torch and preach the good news to the ends of the earth. Centuries later, we have
the written messages, teachings, preachings, and instructions of Jesus thanks to
some of these men. Amongst them, John, a disciple of Jesus who is assumed to be
the author of one of the four Gospels. Many Bible scholars and Christians conceive
John as the gospel of love; moreover, he specifically exemplifies in the passage of the
true vine (John 15: 1 17) the love between the Father and Jesus and Jesus and
believers.
In John 15:1 Jesus depicts himself as the true vine, the Father as the vinedresser,
and Christians as the branches. Dr. W Hall Harris III, a professor of New
Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, explains that this excerpt
represents new imagery which differs significantly from OT concepts; it appears to
be original with Jesus. However, in the old testament there a few references to Israel
as the vineyard of the Lord (Gospel of John). Jesus is showing a new way to the
father, who
Who Was Responsible For The Triangle Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire happened on March 25, 1911. The Triangle Fire is
remembered as one of the most tragic workplace incidents in the history of
Industrial America. This tragic fire killed 146 female factory workers, some as
young as age 15. During this time there was many problems with sweatshops and
unsafe working conditions, this fire proved those problems to be true. The
Triangle Shirtwaist Company was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. The
company was started by Blanck and Harris in 1900. Their company occupied the
top three floors (8,9,10) of the Asch Building in Manhattan. Each floor of their
company had hundreds of girls at sewing machines, the floors were very
overcrowded. Many of the girls that worked at this company were... Show more

The building had four elevators to reach the factory floors, however, in 1911 only
one of those four elevators were functional, workers also had to file down a long
narrow hallway to reach it. In addition to those elevators there were two stairways
down. One of those stairways was unlocked. The other stairway down was locked
from the outside. The building also had a fire escape, but it was very narrow and
couldn t get that many people down it fast enough. With what happened on the
Triangle Fire of 1911, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris should be blamed for the tragic
aftermath and so many women dead with the fire. Their punishment for 146
females dying was very inadequate. Seeming how they did not take the proper
safety precautions and their factory was not up to city codes. Blanck and Harris did
not get charged of manslaughter or anything for the 146 females dying in this fire,
though they definitely should have. There had been strikes in years before about
better working conditions and more safe precautions in the factory. One reporter that
was an eyewitness to the fire said, I remembered their great strike of last year, in
which these girls demanded more sanitary workrooms, and more safety precautions in
the shops. These dead bodies told the results. 1 The workers wanted safer conditions
the year before, so much so that they went on strike. Nothing changed through this
strike and the worst thing happened, the unsafe conditions killed 146

I chose to study and analyze J.M.W. Turner s Slave Ship for this project and found
it to be very interesting. Immediately while looking at the piece you get a strong
sense of emotion and drama that is being portrayed. There is a lot of depth and
warmth in the colors that are used and wide swift brush strokes to create the
images. The first image that caught my eye was of waves crashing on the left side
of the painting. The white tips of the waves are very noticeable against the softer
shades of the ocean. Behind the waves is a ship which is the next part of the
painting that drew my attention. The ship seems to be caught in the rough waves of
the sea and barely able to keep afloat. There is a glimmer of light from the sun

Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of
art in Slave Ship. Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History
and Abolition of the Slave Trade by Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the
slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown overboard so that insurance
payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to create this
artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even
exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour).
Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of
the eighteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism,
Gothicism, emotionalism, and exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if
not all, of these themes. The most obvious used theme would be emotion. Turner is
clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience with such a dark and
dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have high
emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares
many similarities with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience
can relate greatly to art from that time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic
response in art in the modern age and people react strongly to that. Art from
romanticism brings out the same emotion and response.
Microsoft s Windows 8 Product Launch
In order to gleam through the Microsoft s Windows 8 product launch, we need to
understand and analyze the firm as a system of interconnected choices1, which details
the organizational fit, where these choices reflect the firm s capabilities, corporate
formal structures, activities, policies and resources. Internal/External fit among
choices and activities of the firm can lead to a sustainable competitive advantage in
the market place because it makes imitation difficulty. But on the other hand the
complex tight fit makes the navigational challenges for the firm, because of the
change in industry/environment may negate the value of the firm but their survival
will be questioned. In the case of Microsoft, the launch of Windows 8 OS was the
first official and bold reaction to Apple s iPad and Google s Android tablets. Going

B. GSM Modem
A GSM modem is a wireless modem that works with a GSM wireless network. A
wireless modem behaves like a dial up modem. The main difference between them is
that a dial up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a
wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves. Like a GSM mobile
phone, a GSM modem requires a SIM card from a wireless carrier in order to operate.
Generally, computers use AT commands to control modems. Reading of message
from the SIM card inserted into the modem is done by sending the appropriate AT
command to the modem.
In addition to the standard AT commands, GSM modems support an extended set of
AT commands. These extended AT commands are defined in the GSM standards.
Some common basic SMS related AT Commands are shown in table below:

The First African American President
It was a decade of destruction, of innovations, and newfound experiences that hit
high marks: from hurricane Katrina flooding New Orleans, to the development
and evolution of the iPhone, to the first African American president being sworn
into office. For many in the technological era there were both times of sorrow and
hope. There will be many times where people will look back into history years
from now and remember the significant events of the 2000s, and a big reason for
that is the advances both in technology and society that took place. On the day of
November 4, 2008, a man of strong beliefs from Hawaii named Barack Obama
announced that he was running for president of the United States. He won the election
and was sworn into office becoming the 44th president of the United Stateson January
20, 2009. He has not only marked a page in history in becoming the first African
American president, but has tried to work to better the economic and political
aspects of the country. After his term in office was coming to a close, he won the re
election in 2012 and will be currently running in office until January 2017 when his
final term ends and a new presidential candidate will gain office. By the year 2015 of
the decade, Barack Obama is creeping up on the end of his term in office after making
history. Within his term, many significant events in history went down that will make
a lasting impression on society, from innovations in technology, to natural disasters,

Auditory Cues Lab Report
Our focus for this week s lab was the vertebrate nervous system. The nervous system
is composed of two divisions called the central nervous system and the peripheral
nervous system. Within these two divisions there are three types of neurons that
allow us to recognize changes in our environment and help us to respond accordingly.
The three neurons that are found are called sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor
neurons. In addition, the sensory neurons are responsible for responding to touch,
sound, and light. Thus, the interneurons are responsible for integrating these signals
and in return the motor neurons cause a muscle contraction. In this lab, we were able
to become familiar with the visual and auditory processing. We were able to do this
by determining the reaction time and correlation between visual versus auditory cues
and also the reaction time and correlation between right hand versus left hand

According to Table 5, the mean auditory cues were less than the mean visual cues.
Also, majority of the subjects did react more quickly to this cue throughout the trials.
During this lab, I found that the auditory cue elicited a faster response than the
visual cue. This was proven because we learned that the visual cues utilize
photoreceptors that have to pass through layers of the retina, and parallel pathways of
the cortex before the image is perceived by a person. In contrast, the auditory cues
utilize mechanoreceptors that open gated channels, and travel to the auditory cortex
which is a shorter distance than the visual cortex. In regards to other vertebrates, I
think that one cue may have a faster reaction time depending on the types of receptors
used, the amount of synapses, and the location of the
Pythagoras Is A Bit Of A Mysterious Figure
Pythagoras of Samos is a bit of a mysterious figure. There are many different accounts
of his early and midlife, some of which contradict each other. One thing that is
common among all the records is his mathematical achievements. When it comes to
math, he played an extremely large part in the development of mathematics.
Pythagoras was born in 570 BC in Samos. Most of the information that can be
found today about Pythagoras was written a few centuries after he died in 495 BC.
His mother was a native of the island Pythagoras was born on. His father was a
merchant from Tyre. During his early childhood Pythagoras stayed in Samos, but as
he grew older he would accompany his dad on his trading trips. Due to travelling
with his dad he studied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odd numbers were thought of as female and even numbers as male. Out of all the
numbers Pythagoras believed that the number ten was the holiest number. He
believed this because it was made up of the first 4 digits, and when arranged in 4
rows of points it made a triangle. Pythagoras also discovered prime numbers and
composite numbers. He also did some research relating to perfect numbers (the
sum of the divisors is equal to the number). The number 6 is an example of a
perfect number. (3+2+1=6) He discovered that 28 was also a perfect number, and his
students later found 496 and 8128 to be perfect numbers as well.
Pythagoras biggest mathematical work was the Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem
had already been discovered by the Babylonians, but Pythagoras was the first to
prove that it was correct. This theorem relates to the three sides of a right triangle. It
states that the square of a hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other
sides. The formula for this is a^2+b^2=c^2. In this formula a and b = the two
shorter sides of the right triangle. C is equal to the side that is opposite of the right
angle, or the hypotenuse. Pythagoras was also responsible for introducing more

Water Is The Source Of Life And Comes From The Origin
Water is the source of life and comes from the origin, humans have been using
water for various purposes. Since civilizations first started appearing it centered
around a source of water. When civilizations came around they caused
deforestation which lead to rises to floods, annual run off levels and also affects
on stream flow. In many parts of the world, humans obtain water supplies by
pumping from ground water; it reduces level of water table and the replacement of
coastal areas fresh water by salt water (ocean water) which isn t that great to drink.
As fresh water is slowing (not really slowly but vastly) being depleted we will soon
be left only with salt water. Fresh water has been tasted and is showing different
chemicals and substances within the water which can lead to diseases. Waste has
constantly been dumped or disposed of back into the river. In the article by Franz
Josef Bruggemier states The new industries, mainly iron and steel works and coal
mines, consumed large quantities of water... After use, the industries poured the
wastewater back into these rivers without any attempt at treatment. (Bruggemier
Universitat, 1994, p 37) Even during the industrial revolutionpeople constantly abused
the water without thinking of how it was going to further affect the water for the
future. Fish within the water are having some gender transitions, male fish are
starting to have female organs. In the documentary For the Love of Water by Irena
Salina there is a Gandhian
Injustice
Injustice was a big part of To Kill A Mockingbird and impacted the whole town of
Maycomb in different ways. I never wanta hear about that courthouse again, ever,
ever, you hear me? You hear me? Don t you ever say one word to me about it again,
you hear? Now go on! (331 Lee). The biggest examples are with the Finch family
during the trial and Tom Robinson. Injustice is a lack of fairness or justice. Tom
Robinson faces the worst case of injustice. He was convicted of rape because of his
skin color. When the book takes place, black peopleare still considered less than white
people. Tom was able to get the best lawyer in Maycomb: Atticus. Mr. Gilmer was
being unfair to Tom during the trial. He asked him questions that made Tom
uncomfortable,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atticus was assigned the case and he could have rejected it but, he had wanted this
case since the beginning. It was strange for a white man to defend a black man
back then. Once he accepted the case, people thought of him as a stupid and
dishonorable for defending a black man. His own sister called him a disgrace to
the family. You see, don t you, said Aunt Alexandra, what comes of things like this.
Don t say i haven t told you (211).Atticus was able to stop a group of people from
killing Tom. They didn t care if he was guilty or not. They just wanted to kill him
because he was black. During and after the trial, Atticus and the kids faced even
more injustice. Mr. Gilmer was unfair to Atticus during the trial. When Atticus
tried to talk, Mr. Gilmer would yell at him to be quiet. After the trial was over, Jem
and Scout got attacked by Bob Ewell. He attacked them because the kids were
against him in the trial. Boo Radley came in quickly, saved the kids, and killed
Bob Ewell. The people of Maycomb would give the Finch family weird looks on
the street and talk dirty behind their back. When Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout
to her church, one of the black people got in their faces and asked them to leave. He
reads all right, that s all he does, (218). To Kill a Mockingbird had many events that
had injustice. The Finch family and Tom Robinson faced a lot of injustice before,
during, and after the trial. Injustice played a huge role in how the book and the trial
Business Law Contracts Essay
LEGT 1710 Assignment 2 Introduction Harry (H) who is the father of James (J) is
attempting to sue J for a breach in contract and is seeking damages of $30,000 which
he believes is the outstanding amount that is owed to him by J. This case touches on
the fundamental concepts of contract law where H can only claim damages if the
formation of a valid contract between the two parties is evident via the elements of a
contract, including intention, agreement, consideration, legal capacity, genuine
consent and legality of objects must be established. Once these elements are satisfied,
the terms of the contract need to be evaluated to deem whether the contract between
H and J is enforceable. Once it has been established that the contract is... Show more

b) Agreement For there to be an agreement, the elements of offer and acceptance
need to be properly satisfied. H offers to deliver the timber for $90,000, which then
becomes binding when J accepts this offer by promising to pay the sum total of
$90,000 for the timber, which is unqualified acceptance (Lawbook, 2006, 7.1.370).
The offer is communicated and accepted by word of mouth (Felthouse v Bindley).
Therefore it can be concluded that there is sufficient offer and acceptance between
H and J for tha agreed additional $30,000. c) Consideration Consideration is the
exchange of something for something , or it must be the exchange of promises
(Carter, Peden and Tolhurst 2007). In this case, J asks for a supply of timber in
return for the promise to pay $60,000 as well as an extra $30,000. This
consideration can be considered as good consideration as the exchange of promises
occurs after the verbal contract had been established, unlike in Roscorla v Thomas
which indicates past consideration, where consideration is made after the act has
been perfomed. This consideration is also adequate as set up by the precedent in
Chappell amp; Co Ltd v Nestle Co Ltd which shows that consideration must have
some value, just as the timber, and the promised $30,000 have some value and as
both parties are seen to gain some benefit from the exchange. However, it can be
argued that there may be insufficiency of
Essay on Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace
Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace: Government Restrictions on Content in the United
States of America
(this essay is missing the url of each source cited)
Information wants to be free. The Internet fosters free speech on a global scale. [1]
Introduction
The Internet provides a gateway for an individual to speak freely and anonymously
without being targeted to what he or she said. With this said, one of the biggest issues
concerning the Internet today is freedom of speech. The issue of free speech on the
Internet has been a topic of discussion around the world within the past years. It is a
unique communication medium and is powerful than the traditional media[2].
Because the Internet can not be compared equally to other mediums ... Show more

Just as we have laws against dumping garbage on the interstate, we ought to have
similar laws for the information superhighway [3]. The content that individuals can
post on the Internet should be filtered and monitored to protect our children which
make people feel uncomfortable. The dispute against this claim is that it takes away
from the rights of adults which was concluded by the federal courts that it violates
the free speech rights of adults by broadly prohibiting the knowing transmission of
indecent messages to minors and displaying patently offensive sexually explicit
images in a manner available to children [4]. Some believed that restricting the
content on the Internet will be problematic because it will only stifle the free flow of
information, discourage the robust development of new information services and
make users avoid using the system and Banning on line anonymity would go much
too far, stifling the 99 percent of legitimate speech in pursuit of the 1 percent of
criminal speech [5]. The controlling of content on the Internet will disrupt the flow of
information which will discourage individuals to use the Internet and oppress content
that is truthful and valid.
Background of the CDA
There have been several attempts to govern the Internet such as the Communications
Decency Act (CDA) and the Child Online Protection Act (COPA). The CDA was
passed by congress on February 1, 1996 which is Title V of the United States

Balancing emotional appeal with factual accuracy is crucial to engage readers and make a lasting impact. Interpretation The purpose of this experiment was to find out the effect of temperature, pH, and enzyme concentration on enzyme activity every twenty seconds for two minutes. Enzymes are a proteins in the body made up of amino acids. They are capable of catalyzing the chemical reactions that occur in your body. Enzymes connect to substrates and breaks the substrate down to chemical products far more quickly than the random chemical reactions that would have occurred without the enzyme. The enzymes in the cuvette consist of 1 drop of guaiacol, 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide, and 2.8 ml of pH 7 buffer. Each cuvette had their own conditions that set them apart from each other. Cuvette 2 which was the control for this experiment had 1 ml of the enzyme used in the experiment, was kept in 23 degrees Celsius and had a pH of 8. Cuvette 3 had 2 ml of the enzyme, was also kept in 23 degrees Celsius and had a pH of 8. Cuvette 4 had 4 ml of the enzyme, was kept in 23 degrees

This was achieved by eluting the absorbed proteins with 1M KCl In in 0.05 M Tris HCl buffer. The second type included immobilized monoclonal antibodies and the absorption of E. Never before had I been able to read a poet describe in his own philosophy of making a poem. Poe goes in deep context and meaning to how he derives the story line to his poem. He explains what significance the raven plays in the poem and the beauty of his intent in the poem. Poe, first thought of an impression or effect he would like to suppress upon the reader. He first thought of the obvious, which was a parrot, but decided a raven to be a better creature for such a tone. Once these features had been derived, he needed bases for the poem. In the case of beauty, he believed a dead lover to be the beauty. Poe writes, the death, then, of a beautiful women is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world (1576). On the other hand, Poe figured what better then the dead lovers, existing Aylieff 2 partner, who is forced to live in agonyof death, to be the sadness. The way he puts the poem together, by having the beginning at the end, where all works of art should begin (1577) is very intriguing, and shows the thinking of Poe and his work. As he puts the poem together, he interprets the raven to the bereaved lover as being lost in the storm. The raven, looking for shelter ends up at the window of the chambers where the bereaved lover is sulking in his loss. The poem takes shape from there, in Poe s own ingenious. Through the encounters of the raven to the lost lover, is how the lover reveals to the reader his thoughts and feelings. Poe s use of characters is unique and is formatted to the story beautifully. Poe s way of writing poetry and his originality of ideas for a poem, contributes to his uniqueness among poets in his time.

The mood was implying fear and almost an alarming mood for the viewers the lighting helped entail this by giving dark, hair raising lighting. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely

It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus and a civis Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman citizen), so that a so called marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave) would have no legal standing in Roman law (apart, presumably, from the arbitrary will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases). Furthermore, matrimonium is an institution involving a mother, mater. The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in matrimonium ducere, so that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal validity notwithstanding, there is a consensus among modern historians that same sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the exact frequency and nature of same sex unions during that period is obscure. In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering execution for those so married. The reflector basically takes the letter it was given after it went though the fist time of rotors and sends it back out as another letter and then that letter goes through the rotors again. The New Oxford Dictionary defines a miracle as, a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is, therefore, considered to be the work of a divine agency. Everything that is experienced from morning until night is a miracle. Though these marvels are amazing, they are taken for granted. Things like listening to music, walking, talking, smelling, and living are all Gods miracles and are all taken for granted. Will same sex matrimony extend marriage s stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage undermine family life? A lot is riding on the answers to these questions. But the media s reflexive labeling of doubts about gay marriage as homophobia has made it almost impossible to debate the social effects of this reform. Now with the Supreme Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas, that debate is unavoidable. Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to legalized polygamy and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social effects of gay matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual unions will become more stable. Yet another faction of gay rights advocates actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the abolition of marriage itself. This group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the slide down. To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself poses no danger to the institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it will usher in legalized polygamy and polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly weaken the belief that monogamy lies at the heart of marriage. But to see why this is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery slope. Promoting polygamy DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which affirmed the ability of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition from same sex marriages, gay marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the polygamy question. If gays had a right to marry, why not polygamists? Andrew Sullivan, one of gay marriage s most intelligent defenders, labeled the question fear mongering akin to the discredited belief that interracial marriage would lead to birth defects. quot;To the best of my knowledge, quot; said Sullivan, quot;there is no

The lyrical style of poetry got its name because it was usually accompanied by a lyre while it was recited. It also was used to express more emotion rather than telling a story. This form of poetry seems to be more artistic rather than the story telling of epic poetry of the time. In this poem we are able to use the comparison of different imagery to understand a common theme within the poem itself. The reason for the interesting title of the poem is because most of Sappho s poetry is now only found in fragmented forms. Most of Sappho s writing is from 600 B.C.E. As ... This could be considered the glorification of the warrior or the athlete of the times, which is also shown in vase paintings and sculptor works. Also note that Sappho gives a historical aspect to the poem with mention of Helen, who was considered to be the most beautiful woman ever according to myth. Her beauty is being compared to the beauty of the army in Fragment 16. These are believes that Greeks hold in moral and ideals of their society. I personally love this poem for the idea of love and beauty that is in the eyes of the beholder. The fact that Sappho ties the culture and their stories of history along with her idea of beauty into one piece allows me to also think about what I might consider beautiful. And that beauty isn t just beauty but it is love and respect. While I would never find beauty in anything war related I m sure I d have a different view if I lived during that time period but I can actually find a relation in myself to the people of Sappho s time because of her work. During his short ministry, Jesus had a clear task, teach and preach the Kingdom of God on earth. Within this kingdom, a higher standard of living was preached; sickness was outlawed, needs were supplied, demoniacs were set free, and religion was superseded by love. To accomplish this mission, Jesusselected a few good men and turned them into disciples. They would be the ones, after his ascension, that would carry the torch and preach the good news to the ends of the earth. Centuries later, we have the written messages, teachings, preachings, and instructions of Jesus thanks to some of these men. Amongst them, John, a disciple of Jesus who is assumed to be the author of one of the four Gospels. Many Bible scholars and Christians conceive John as the gospel of love; moreover, he specifically exemplifies in the passage of the true vine (John 15: 1 17) the love between the Father and Jesus and Jesus and believers. In John 15:1 Jesus depicts himself as the true vine, the Father as the vinedresser, and Christians as the branches. Dr. W Hall Harris III, a professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, explains that this excerpt represents new imagery which differs significantly from OT concepts; it appears to be original with Jesus. However, in the old testament there a few references to Israel as the vineyard of the Lord (Gospel of John). Jesus is showing a new way to the father, who

There is a glimmer of light from the sun peeking through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of art in Slave Ship. Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History and Abolition of the Slave Trade by Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown overboard so that insurance payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to create this artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour). Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of the eighteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism, Gothicism, emotionalism, and exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if not all, of these themes. The most obvious used theme would be emotion. Turner is clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience with such a dark and dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have high emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares many similarities with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience can relate greatly to art from that time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic response in art in the modern age and people react strongly to that. Art from romanticism brings out the same emotion and response.

The main difference between them is that a dial up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves. Like a GSM mobile phone, a GSM modem requires a SIM card from a wireless carrier in order to operate. Generally, computers use AT commands to control modems. Reading of message from the SIM card inserted into the modem is done by sending the appropriate AT command to the modem. The nervous system is composed of two divisions called the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. Within these two divisions there are three types of neurons that allow us to recognize changes in our environment and help us to respond accordingly. The three neurons that are found are called sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor neurons. In addition, the sensory neurons are responsible for responding to touch, sound, and light. Thus, the interneurons are responsible for integrating these signals and in return the motor neurons cause a muscle contraction. In this lab, we were able to become familiar with the visual and auditory processing. We were able to do this by determining the reaction time and correlation between visual versus auditory cues and also the reaction time and correlation between right hand versus left hand humans. This was proven because we learned that the visual cues utilize photoreceptors that have to pass through layers of the retina, and parallel pathways of the cortex before the image is perceived by a person. In contrast, the auditory cues utilize mechanoreceptors that open gated channels, and travel to the auditory cortex which is a shorter distance than the visual cortex. In regards to other vertebrates, I think that one cue may have a faster reaction time depending on the types of receptors used, the amount of synapses, and the location of the

There are many different accounts of his early and midlife, some of which contradict each other. One thing that is common among all the records is his mathematical achievements. Out of all the numbers Pythagoras believed that the number ten was the holiest number. He believed this because it was made up of the first 4 digits, and when arranged in 4 rows of points it made a triangle. Pythagoras also discovered prime numbers and composite numbers. He also did some research relating to perfect numbers (the sum of the divisors is equal to the number). The number 6 is an example of a perfect number. (3+2+1=6) He discovered that 28 was also a perfect number, and his students later found 496 and 8128 to be perfect numbers as well. Pythagoras biggest mathematical work was the Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem had already been discovered by the Babylonians, but Pythagoras was the first to prove that it was correct. This theorem relates to the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the square of a hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other sides. The formula for this is a^2+b^2=c^2. In this formula a and b = the two shorter sides of the right triangle. C is equal to the side that is opposite of the right angle, or the hypotenuse. You hear me? Don t you ever say one word to me about it again, you hear? Now go on! (331 Lee). The biggest examples are with the Finch family during the trial and Tom Robinson. Injustice is a lack of fairness or justice. Tom Robinson faces the worst case of injustice. He was convicted of rape because of his skin color. When the book takes place, black peopleare still considered less than white people. Tom was able to get the best lawyer in Maycomb: Atticus. Mr. Gilmer was being unfair to Tom during the trial. He asked him questions that made Tom uncomfortable,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atticus was assigned the case and he could have rejected it but, he had wanted this case since the beginning. It was strange for a white man to defend a black man back then. Once he accepted the case, people thought of him as a stupid and dishonorable for defending a black man. His own sister called him a disgrace to the family. You see, don t you, said Aunt Alexandra, what comes of things like this. Don t say i haven t told you (211).Atticus was able to stop a group of people from killing Tom. They didn t care if he was guilty or not. They just wanted to kill him because he was black. During and after the trial, Atticus and the kids faced even more injustice. Mr. Gilmer was unfair to Atticus during the trial. When Atticus tried to talk, Mr. Gilmer would yell at him to be quiet. After the trial was over, Jem and Scout got attacked by Bob Ewell. He attacked them because the kids were against him in the trial. Boo Radley came in quickly, saved the kids, and killed Bob Ewell. The people of Maycomb would give the Finch family weird looks on the street and talk dirty behind their back. When Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to her church, one of the black people got in their faces and asked them to leave. He reads all right, that s all he does, (218). To Kill a Mockingbird had many events that had injustice. The Finch family and Tom Robinson faced a lot of injustice before, during, and after the trial. Injustice played a huge role in how the book and the trial
  • 42. Business Law Contracts Essay LEGT 1710 Assignment 2 Introduction Harry (H) who is the father of James (J) is attempting to sue J for a breach in contract and is seeking damages of $30,000 which he believes is the outstanding amount that is owed to him by J. This case touches on the fundamental concepts of contract law where H can only claim damages if the formation of a valid contract between the two parties is evident via the elements of a contract, including intention, agreement, consideration, legal capacity, genuine consent and legality of objects must be established. Once these elements are satisfied, the terms of the contract need to be evaluated to deem whether the contract between H and J is enforceable. Once it has been established that the contract is... H offers to deliver the timber for $90,000, which then becomes binding when J accepts this offer by promising to pay the sum total of $90,000 for the timber, which is unqualified acceptance (Lawbook, 2006, 7.1.370). The offer is communicated and accepted by word of mouth (Felthouse v Bindley). Therefore it can be concluded that there is sufficient offer and acceptance between H and J for tha agreed additional $30,000. c) Consideration Consideration is the exchange of something for something , or it must be the exchange of promises (Carter, Peden and Tolhurst 2007). In this case, J asks for a supply of timber in return for the promise to pay $60,000 as well as an extra $30,000. This consideration can be considered as good consideration as the exchange of promises occurs after the verbal contract had been established, unlike in Roscorla v Thomas which indicates past consideration, where consideration is made after the act has been perfomed. This consideration is also adequate as set up by the precedent in Chappell amp; Co Ltd v Nestle Co Ltd which shows that consideration must have some value, just as the timber, and the promised $30,000 have some value and as both parties are seen to gain some benefit from the exchange. However, it can be argued that there may be insufficiency of

Essay on Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace: Government Restrictions on Content in the United States of America (this essay is missing the url of each source cited) Information wants to be free. The Internet fosters free speech on a global scale. [1] Introduction The Internet provides a gateway for an individual to speak freely and anonymously without being targeted to what he or she said. With this said, one of the biggest issues concerning the Internet today is freedom of speech. The issue of free speech on the Internet has been a topic of discussion around the world within the past years. It is a unique communication medium and is powerful than the traditional media[2]. Just as we have laws against dumping garbage on the interstate, we ought to have similar laws for the information superhighway [3]. The content that individuals can post on the Internet should be filtered and monitored to protect our children which make people feel uncomfortable. The dispute against this claim is that it takes away from the rights of adults which was concluded by the federal courts that it violates the free speech rights of adults by broadly prohibiting the knowing transmission of indecent messages to minors and displaying patently offensive sexually explicit images in a manner available to children [4]. Some believed that restricting the content on the Internet will be problematic because it will only stifle the free flow of information, discourage the robust development of new information services and make users avoid using the system and Banning on line anonymity would go much too far, stifling the 99 percent of legitimate speech in pursuit of the 1 percent of criminal speech [5]. The controlling of content on the Internet will disrupt the flow of information which will discourage individuals to use the Internet and oppress content that is truthful and valid. Background of the CDA There have been several attempts to govern the Internet such as the Communications Decency Act (CDA) and the Child Online Protection Act (COPA). The CDA was passed by congress on February 1, 1996 which is Title V of the United States Telecommunication
