Everyday Use Alice Walker Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be both challenging and
rewarding. On one hand, the story offers rich material for analysis, with its themes of heritage,
identity, and the tension between tradition and modernity. On the other hand, delving into these
themes requires a deep understanding of the characters, their motivations, and the historical
context in which the story is set.
One of the difficulties in writing such an essay lies in striking a balance between summarizing
the plot and delving into deeper analysis. While it's important to provide a brief overview of the
story for context, the heart of the essay lies in exploring Walker's themes and the ways in which
they manifest in the characters' actions and relationships.
Another challenge is avoiding oversimplification. "Everyday Use" is a nuanced story that resists
easy categorization. Characters like Mama, Dee, and Maggie are complex individuals whose
motivations are open to interpretation. Analyzing their actions requires careful attention to detail
and a willingness to consider multiple perspectives.
Furthermore, crafting a strong thesis statement can be challenging when tackling a story as
multifaceted as "Everyday Use." The thesis should offer a unique perspective on the text while
still being supported by evidence from the story itself.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be daunting, it
also offers an opportunity to engage deeply with themes that resonate far beyond the confines of
the story itself. By grappling with these themes and analyzing Walker's craft, students can
develop critical thinking skills that will serve them well in academic and professional settings.

Disneyland Is A New World Of Yesterday, Tomorrow, And
Fantasy
Over the entrance to Main Street in Disneyland is a quote by Walt Disney reading
Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy
(Disney). Even then Walt Disney knew what this park is because here I stand with
my Aunt Laura, Cousin Ricky, and Sister Monica with among the thousands around
us staring off at the dark and distant gates, waiting for entry through to the happiest
place on earth. We all stand with impatience and excitement, for we know what is to
come will surely be an adventure into a new world filled with amazing attractions
and attacks on nostalgia that if only for a moment can take someone back to their
childhood.
First thing I see after crossing the threshold is a rather large Mickey Mouse flower
pattern that is a beacon to all that enter, calling all visitors to take a picture as the
perfect backdrop, however, we decide to walk past and walk through, as Walt Disney
called it on the sign above, yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy. A wave of nostalgia
washes over me, and a brief childlike wonder set in at the sight of Main Street.
Shaken out of my nostalgia, I hear the sound before I see a marching band playing,
the trolley in the distance, and kids and adults alike lining up to take a picture with
Disney characters. My Aunt Laura among them, wanting to take pictures, and my
Cousin Ricky reluctantly obliges. Now, we are heading up Main Street, seeing the
early 20th century style architecture and I can see the Disney castle in the
The Diffuse And The Concentrated Model Of Judicial
Review
VI. CONCLUSION
The choice between the diffuse and the concentrated model of judicial review (and,
within the concentrated family of systems, between the supreme court version and
the constitutional court version) is often understood to reflect a divide among two
competing theories of constitutional law. One theory perceives constitutional law as,
first and foremost, a field of law, to which regular adjudicatory method is applicable,
along with its assumptions of professionalism, objectivism, and interpretivism. This
theory aligns with the diffuse model of judicial review, since it leaves constitutional
jurisdiction in the hands of the professional judiciary. A contrasting theory posits
constitutional law as a unique field of normative ordering, ... Show more content on

Keeping judicial review within the courts, as the diffuse model urges, will not turn
the interpretation and application of the constitution into an objective endeavor, free
from moral, ideological, or theoretical commitments or from class, culture, and other
group influences. Similarly, placing the constitution away from the regular judiciary,
as the concentrated model urges, will not relieve „legal‟ adjudication from the
political stakes that are involved in any exercise of judicial power, constitutional or
otherwise. Classifying constitutional law as more or less „political,‟ therefore,
offers no real guidance as to the optimal jurisdictional arrangement for the exercise of
judicial review; Israel has effectively defied this
Punnett Square Stereotypes
A Punnett Square is a simplified tool used for predicting the probability of the
appearance of a certain trait in an offspring of two parents, each of whom contributes
two alleles that subsequently combine to produce the four, possible genotypes. When
an allele is dominant, it annuls the appearance of any recessive allele; thus, both
parents must contribute a recessive allele for a recessive trait to appear. If both
parents have heterozygous genotypes, possessing both a dominant and a recessive
allele, then, according to the Punnett Square, only a twenty five percent chance exists
that their offspring will express a recessive trait. In my family, comprised with two
heterozygous parents and four individual offsprings, who outwardly exhibit this...

As noted, from a young age, my parents raised me to think musically. Consequently,
now, whenever I hear any song, my Pavlovian response kicks in, as I find the song s
meter and imagine its rhythms as dots on a page. Although my knack for music may
not be inherent, it is unmistakingly automatic. Music is now ingrained into my brain,
as I tap my toe involuntarily to every beat, anticipate every chord change, and cringe
at every note that is even slightly out of tune. Undeterred by my disinclination for a
musical career, my family and, naturally, all of my surroundings continually foster
my ever growing, learned passion for music. Although I cannot imagine myself
soloing in Carnegie Hall years from now, I also cannot imagine living my life void of
music, with its familiarity and surprise, its comfort and sorrow, its rigidity and
versatility. The addition of music in my otherwise non musical life gives me more
than just a hobby, but an understanding of multiple perspectives coming together as
one, giving me a broader image of the world around me. Unlike simplified Punnett
Squares, music does not just chose one factor over another, but rather layers multiple
elements together, allowing each to simultaneously exist, furthermore resulting in
symphonies, like me, a melody of predetermined,
Dbq 4 The Jewish People
Q8. The first picture that had stood out to me was the one where the Jewish people
were standing in two lines in front of the officers. The men, women, and children all
stood awaiting the officers who stood in front of them. The Jewish people stood
there unaware of what was to come. In this picture, the Jewish people are still seen
wearing their clothes, coats, hats, etc. wearing what they had brought with them.
They all still had their shoes on and their hair was still upon their heads. The reason I
bring these points up is because shortly after this photo would be taken, their lives
would surely be changed forever. I can t help but think that in a few minutes they
would no longer possess their clothes, shoes, hair, golden teeth, or anything... Show

This photo may look like it just shows a large group of people standing in a line, it
shows so much beyond that. This photo contains Jewish men, women, and children
awaiting a horrible fate. The officers in the photo would be the ones who would
decided rather someone would live or die. The worst part about that, is that most
of the officers would not lose a single night of sleep no matter how many families
they separated or how many people they had condemned to death that day. The
Jewish people s fate would be decided by one man s decision to send them left or
right, that is what it came down to. This thought had a huge impact on me, by
looking at this photo, I would be looking at people who were minutes away from
their gruesome deaths. Many of them had no idea what was about to happen. In a
few short minutes, they would be torn away from their family members, stripped of
all of their belongings and clothing, they would be stripped of their dignity. Some of
the Jews would be sent off to work if the generals had picked them to, the rest would
be burned to death in the ovens. In my opinion, this photo has a lot more meaning to
it then people would originally

RUNNING HEAD: ARGUMENTATION AND COLLABORATION
The purpose of this paper is to identify key issues based on lectures and readings done
from this past week. From the readings, the main focus for the week dealt with
Argumentation and Collaboration. If in any situation, how would the argument be
constructed and supported, how to explain the way perception will affect decision
making, and lastly explain the importance of having clear communication in business.
Argumentation
Argumentation deals with learning persuasive techniques of how to convince
someone to think or act in a particular way. No matter what the issue maybe, there is

Communication
The vitality of communication is very important. Robbins and Judge (2007) tells us
that an idea, no matter how great, is useless until it is transmitted and understood by
others according to chapter 11 (Organizational Behavior). Without the function of
communication, it is impossible for anything to go on; nothing will exist. In order for
communication to take place, it must be a phase of transmission of meaning from
one person to another and the meaning must be understood.
The most useful concept or idea is communication. Communication is what makes
things or break things. The effectiveness of how the well the communication is will
determine the outcome of any situation. Anyone can communicate, but as stated
before, there must be transmission and meaning. Realistically, all of the concepts and
issues relate to the organization. Everyday, argumentation is performed. Why do you
feel this is adequate for the company? Not only argumentation, but decisions are made
throughout the entirety of the day. Have the decisions been thought out? Will this
solve the problem or make a difference? Lastly, there is communication.
Communication will determine to what extent the work will get completed, and how
well information was perceived. All of these aspects are essential in an organization
and helps make the organization better place.

Benefits And Benefits Of Retirement Options Essay
Introduction Companies and government entities enable employees to prepare for
future retirement by offering employees a variety of retirement options. Retirement
options are broken into two categories: defined benefit plans and defined
contributed plans. Defined benefit plans include pension plans, which allow
employees to receive guaranteed payments calculated by focusing on the number
of years of job commitment and average yearly salary. Additionally, the employer
takes on the investment risk instead of the employee. Contributions by any of the
parties are optional, however, contributions are mandatory for defined contribution
plans. Popular examples include 401(k) or 403(b) plans, which employees can
elect to include a portion of a paycheck to the plan as a contribution twice a month
(Defined Benefit Plan 2016) (Defined Contribution Plan 2016). Current Retirement
Plan Options Up through February 2011, Wal Mart Stores, Inc. used the profit
sharing plan in which the company matched 4% of employee contribution. The
CEO at the time, Michael Duke, pledged to reduce accumulated expenses and
increase net income from decreasing sales by implementing the use of the company
401(k) plan. The employees can enroll into the 401(k) plan as part of the company s
retirement package. U.S. employees are approved for 401(k) eligibility upon hire
and able to beginning contributing to the plan immediately. Puerto Rican employees
also are able to enroll in the offered 401(k) plan
Reactive Attachment Disorder Of Children
Reactive Attachment Disorder in Children
Introduction to the Diagnosis
According to Bowlby, the founder of attachment theory, a dependable, safe, and
caring relationship with a primary caregiver is vital to an infant s psychological
health (Bowlby, 1951). In particular, children lacking a secure attachment with their
primary caregivers are at risk of developing emotional and behavioral issues (Blakely
Dziadosz, 2015). Unfortunately, the human bonds normally formed in infancy are
fractured in neglected and abused children suffering from RAD (Shi, 2014). As a
result, these children become withdrawn, distrustful, and fearful of the world (Shi,
2014).
RAD is located under Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders in the Diagnostic and ...

Notably, one quarter of children living in the United States will suffer from neglect
and/or abuse during their lifetime (CDC, 2016). As a consequence, the welfare
system places at risk children in foster homes, group homes, and institutions
(Department of Health and Human Services (US Department of Health and Human
Services Administration for Children Youth and Families, 2015). According to the
Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), in 2014,
over 400,000 children were placed into foster care with over 100,000 were waiting
to be adopted (US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for

White (42%), the second highest are Blacks (24%) and third are Hispanics (22%)
(US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children Youth

The Beast Essay
The Beast is Here
When a car earns the nickname of The Beast , one can easily imagine how
powerful it must be. This word conjures up images of fire, fury, and strength. Race
car driver Alex Lloyd took a car called The Beast for a spin at the latest edition of
one of America s most famous endurance events, 25 Hours of Thunderhill. His
experience with the car was an exciting one as he learned exactly why this particular
automobile has earned such a ferocious nickname. Lloyd endured an incredible few
days behind the wheel of this heavily modified Superlite SLC.
The 25 Hours of Thunderhill event is held annually on the Thunderhill Raceway
Park, just outside of Willows in California. This 7 mile track is well known for its
sharp twists and turns. The event itself has been going since 1991. Originally
featuring a 12 hour endurance race, the time limit was upped to 24 hours and then ...

decided to make a few changes to this particular automobile to turn it into something
better. They transformed the car from a two seat vehicle to a single seat automobile,
placing the driver s chair right in the middle. They also changed countless other
aspects of the car including its frame, body, suspension and more. Next, the fuel
tank was replaced with a custom part and a new engine was added to provide a boost
in horsepower.
With all of those changes, the experience of driving the Beast is a truly unique one.
Officially known as the Eagle , this car is a machine ruled by power and
unpredictability, as Lloyd found out on his first few laps of the track. It didn t take
long for the race car driver to notice that the gearbox was struggling with some
issues and the car was losing fuel too. The race had been going for hours by the time

American Car Evolution
The evolution of vehicle performance
During the years of 1970 to present, Americans experienced both hardships and
prosperity. For example, Americans experienced the scandals of Watergate, which
caused Americans to question the corruptibility of the government. In addition,
Americans also faced government shutdowns and economic problems that crippled
the country. An important person in this era is Elon Musk, because he is transforming
the way Americans get places. Furthermore, an event that has a major impact on
Americans is SEMA because Americans design the next level cars, trucks and suvs
and then they bring them to SEMA. Lastly, one invention that affected Americans
was the Duramax engine. It enabled Americans to pull the biggest, heaviest loads
than ever before. The Duramax is put in pick up trucks, work vans, big trucks, box
trucks, and buses. Elon Musk, SEMA and the Duramax are prominent figures and
events from 1970s to present era that reflect how this time period was evolutionary.
Elon Musk is a South African inventor/ business man who is self taught. He got his
first computer at the young age of ten years old.

Goals Traits
There are many things that I would like to achieve before I reach retirement. The five
goals that are the most important to me are:
1.I would like to buy a house. I currently am renting which I feel is a waste of money.
2.I would like to complete my Bachelor s Degree shortly after I complete my
Associate s Degree.
3.I would like to have had a job that I loved doing.
4.I would like to have visited Hawaii.
5.I would like to have paid off all of my debts and be debt free.
Three traits that should be helpful in reaching these goals are being determined, hard
working, and positive. Having these traits will be a good way to make these goals
successful.

My family has always been there to support me and motivate me to be a better
person. Faith is important to me because it helps me to believe that I can do
anything I put my mind to and that when something bad happens to me it will get
better. Honesty is important to me because I do not think it is right to lie and be
misleading. People do not like to be lied to and do not like to be associated with
dishonest people. Ambition is an important value to me because it is something that I
was raised to have. I am known as an over achiever and I always try to do my best
at everything I do. I try hard to be the best that I can possibly be. Thankfulness is
important to me because so many people take things and people for granted.
Sometimes I may think that times are hard, but the reality is that it could be so
much worse and a lot of people have life a lot harder than I do. Courtesy is a value
I have because it is important to be nice to people. I think that being polite to
people can turn their bad day into a good day. Accuracy is also important to me
because I like to do things the right way. I would rather work hard to do my very
best rather than take a short cut to not give my all. Financial Independence is
important because I do not want to have to depend on anyone else to pay for my
things. Another important value to me is affection, whether it is with words or
physically. Showing people affection
How I Really Like The Opening Sentence
First of all, I really like the opening sentence. It immodestly caught my attention
and made me want to read more. It explains how it can be easy to forget that we all
live in a physical world. We are actually part of something, not just an imagination. It
then goes on to explain that we live in such a digital age, and everything we hear,
see, games, apps, videos, news articles, and photographs are produced by us, real
humans. But the things that we consider genuine do not actually exist. This really
makes you think, what does this mean? Well, for example I am reading this on my
laptop, and the letters I am reading an typing are conceived as impulses or energy
rather than things. Old photos have been scanned and made digital. Even though we
can hold the printed imagephysically, it has a place in the world. It s occupying
space. The mid 1940 s has physical presence as well. The images I am about to talk
about are accurate representations of a city struggling to rebuild and again some
sense of normality after suffering destruction of WW2. The damage of the images,
like the spot, mold, etc, are eerie but they provide another way to consider what we
call real. All of the things McAvoy captured, did happen. Yet, after the war, the only
to you could find was hunger, cold, and depression. His images were taken and
transformed into something else that was ear abstract, ghostly works, within which
one can still see remnants of the robust photojournalism that McAvoy

conducting experiments in a chemistry lab is critical. In such, the purpose of this
lab is to exhibit such foundations through evaluation various ways of measurement
as well learning to distinguish between properties and doing so via equipment
provided in the lab. The types of measurement that will be highlighted include
mass, volume and density; mass as being referred to as a definite amount of matter
typically revealed in the form of grams (g), volume being defined as a specific
amount of space taken up by a form shown in the form of milliliters (mL), liters (L),
centimeters cubed (cm3) or many others, and density being defined as a ratio of
mass over volume. Observing how these measurements change depending on the
substance or object is extremely beneficial. Such ways of measurement further aid in
differentiating chemical and physical properties. Chemical and physical properties
are what define and categorize substances. Chemical properties depict the manner in
which substances behave in reactions and include the formation of a new substance,
or a change in the identity of a substance. For example, oxidation or explosions are
chemical changes, but in real life so is something as simple as yogurt spoiling.

Summary Of Edward Hoagland s Essay On Stuttering

On Stuttering
One of America s finest essayists, Edward Hoagland, in his essay, On Stuttering
describes how his handicap has affected his life. Hoagland s intention is to suggest
that although his disability has made his life more difficult, it is a part of his life
none the less, and has pushed him to become a better person. He adopts a somewhat
scholarly tone, using complex vocabulary in an effort to convey to his readers that
his disability has allowed him to excel as much as it has held him back.
Hoagland begins his essay with an analogy to help the audience understand his
stutter in a clear and visual way. He likens his handicap to trying to run with loops of
rope around your feet (Hoagland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He recalls that people often told him to write things down when he struggled with
speaking, and then mentions he sold his first novel before he graduated from
college. Hoagland mentions this not to brag about his accomplishment, but to serve
as an example of how he has not let his stutter drag him down. Rather, he has used
the handicap as a way to push himself further. He asks, How many opinions can you
keep to yourself before you choke on them? (Hoagland 115). While he isn t always
able to eloquently speak about his ideas, he has been able to form intelligent opinions
based on his ability to attentively listen. Turning to writing, not only is Hoagland able
to form ideas and write about them unhindered, he also is able to be a better writer
because of his stutter. Because he is unable to pause and think of exact words
while speaking, he does the opposite in his writing. Using clear yet intricate word
choices such as schadenfreude , stymieing , and ancillary eccentricity (Hoagland
115), he is able to describe exactly what he means. On the other hand, aspects of
Hoagland s stutter do creep into his writing style. In regard to his use of syntax, his
sentences are almost all long and complex, an attribute coming from his desire to get
as many words out as he can. He does, however, use an unusual amount of commas
throughout the entire essay to add pauses, a stylist

these changes have had both positive and negative effects on people, societies, and

to their people. That did not feed all their people so The Aztecs also implemented

information about Seymour which is the glasses oldest brother that committed
suicide. This letter also comes into play throughout the book and at the end of the
book when Zooey is talking to Franny over the phone trying to give her some clarity
and help her in her life and mental breakdown and things she s dealing with at the

most important benefits of the letter and the Fat Lady was that the letter helped
Zooey understand why Buddy and Seymour brought up Franny and Zooey the way

Dazed and Confused and American Graffiti
American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused are both nostalgic, coming of age films
that comically portray the characters interpersonal struggle and transition from their
teenage, high school years into adulthood. Both films are period pieces that take the
audience back in time, to a time when life seemed much simpler than it is today.
These types of films are almost always hits because of their relatability to the
audience. The soundtracks featured in each of these films plays a significant role in
the storylines.
American Graffiti (1973), is an Academy Award winning film directed by George
Lucas, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat and Charles Martin
Smith. American Graffiti is a vignette of the four main characters, Steve (Ron
Howard) the privileged child with a conservative demeanor and appearance; Curt
(Richard Dreyfuss) the intellectual thinker, John (Paul Le Mat) the tough guy
known for drag racing his 1932 Ford Coupe Deville and Terry (Charles Martin
Smith) the nerdy buddy, desperate for the attention of females, and the friend you
would forever defend. The friends are enjoying a typical night in small town
Modesto, California while cruising the strip. Mels Diner, the local liquor store,
make out point and cruising strip set the backdrop, while the radio show of Wolf
man Jack sets the era. The music in the film is not only heard by the audience but by
the characters as well. Each song is carefully choreographed to enhance the scenes.

My Motorcycle Wreck
All my life I have been around motorcycles. My father used to let me ride on the
back with him when I was a young child. I remember the feeling that I would get
when he would accelerate. As soon as I could touch the ground, I owned a dirt
bike. I used to love going fast and wheeling down the road for the neighborhood
girls to see. We used to spend hours working on bikes together. That is when I started
to become obsessed with motorcycles.
January 31st, 2016 is the day that I got my first motorcycle. It was the day my
fiancГ© and I were moving to Jacksonville, Florida. We drove for about twenty
minutes, until I got a call from my cousin. He said, Cody I will trade my
motorcycle for your car. So, we met in the Walmart parking lot in Hot Springs
Village, Arkansas. When he pulled up with the motorcycle, I was excited. Then, I
took a joy ride around the parking lot. I could not believe I finally could have my
own motorcycle. I traded my car with a bad transmission for the bike. We were
barely able to pick the back of the bike up to get it in the U Haul truck. When we
got here the movers had beat us here, and were waiting impatiently. So, when we
opened the back of the truck and they saw my heavy motorcycle they were thrilled.
Five months later, I have been living here for a little while now and driving my
motorcycle everywhere has become normal for me. One night, I was on my way to
work at the nursing home. I was

harbour and preserve extremely disparate notions, to such an extent that their
incompatibility becomes a recurring theme within the story. Indeed, their differing
values and principles becomes the ultimate cause of antagonism, as it is their
conflicting views that fuels the tension already brewing within the Kowalski
household. Blanche, a woman disillusioned with the passing of youth and the
dejection that loneliness inflicts upon its unwilling victims, breezes into her sister s

Tennesse Williams utilises setting to expose his characters. Blanche s fallacy is
highlighted by her inappropriate clothing, a discordance reinforced by the squalor
of Stella s home. Indeed, Blanche s immediate expression of shocked disbelief
when viewing the place for the first time, and her later condemnation of Elysian
Fields, in which she says to her sister what are you doing in a place like this? and
why didn t you tell me that you had to live in these conditions? reveals her superior
attitude. It is evident that her upbringing in Belle Reve is the culprit for her
presumptuous manner. However, Stella s polite civility in the face of her sister s
overbearing supremacy shows that the principles of Dubois heritage have not
manifested themselves in all its members. She is meek, almost resigned when
confronted with such rudeness. She offers to pour the drinks and discloses
important information with the line You never did give me a chance to say much.
So I just got in the habit of being quiet around you. This contradicts the idea of the
Dubois family having very different notions to the Kowalski s, as Stella has not
been absorbed by the pretension of Belle Reve. The old fashioned values
Swot for Top Glove
SWOT analysis is a useful tool for understanding and decision making for all sorts of
situations in business and organization. SWOT analysis can be classified into internal
and external factors affecting a company. The Strengths and Weaknesses of the
SWOT analysis represent the internal factors that influence the viability of the
company. While the Opportunities and Threats, on the other hand, are the external
factors that may affect the company s performances. A SWOT analysisprovides more
understanding of the organization in relation to its internal and external environment
so that manager can formulate better strategy in pursuit of its mission.

Dunbar s Poem We War The Mask
Questions for We Wear the Mask:
The mask that is described in this poem is meant to represent the hiding of the
emotions and the identity of an individual. It references the idea that in order for one
to survive in the world, one must hide their true personality, feelings, and in the
context of this poem, their race.
The line, [...] debt we pay to human guile, is used to imply the feelings of shame and
guilt that come with the deceit one commits when they hide themselves. When a
person hides behind a mask, they become unable to truly connect with any other
human beings, on the grounds that the negativity linked with the mask often prevents
proper interaction, in which emotions are key.
In Dunbar s original context of the poem, he uses we, in order to clearly state that the

This is due to the comparison between the author and dust, but is different from a
metaphor due to the use of the word like.
The poetic device used in the line, You may cut me with your eyes, can be considered
to be an example of personification. The line emphasizes the idea that eyes have the
power to physically harm someone or something, while in reality they lack this
ability. This attaches a specific human trait or characteristic to something that would
not have this trait otherwise.
After reading Maya Angelou s poem, Still I Rise, it becomes very clear that
Angelou is proud of her race, and finds power from her past, as well as her culture.
Throughout the poem, Angelou reiterates the positivity that she associates with
being black, and she does so while inciting feelings of great power and inspiration.
She will still rise, no matter who, or what, attempts to tear her down. Angelou makes
it very clear that she will not be silenced, she will not hide, and most importantly, she
will not be ashamed of her race or
Summary Of Remember The Ladies By Abigail Adams
Abigail Adams wrote a letter to her husband John Adams called Remember the
Ladies. Abigail is writing this letter during the Revolutionary War. The timing of the
letter is significant because the country is at war for freedom and equality. In her
letter Abigail pleas with her husband for women s equality. Abigail s purpose for
writing to John regarding women s equality is so that he will think of women as they
adopt new laws. Throughout the letter Abigail uses different points of view, word
choice, and varying tones to persuade her husband to see the need for laws that are
considerate of women. Abigail Adamsis making a plea for equality for women and
for herself. This can be seen when she uses the points of view you, I, your, ours
and us at different points in her letter. That your Sex are Naturally Tyrannical is a
Truth so thoroughly established as to admit no dispute, but such as you wish to be
happy willing to give up the harsh title of Master for the more endearing one of
Friend (24). Abigail uses I and you because she is referencing their own relationship
and the equality she wants in their marriage. She does this to show how it affects
them personally.
Abigail changes her point of view again, this time for a larger purpose. Why then,
not put it out of the power of the vicious and the Lawless to use us with cruelty and
indignity and impunity (24). Abigail s use of the word us shows she is no longer
posing her argument from a personal stance, but to include all

Female writing during the 18th century became a popular method of expressing
feminine mentality on issues that were previously considered forbidden. Writers
such as Aphra Behn, Mary Leapor and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu published their
works alongside many respected male poets such as Jonathan Swift and Thomas
Gray. Women were gaining a sense of independence and emancipation from the
traditional patriarchal rule, and this was occurring at an increasingly rapid pace.
Many female poets of the time wrote works that dealt with the treatment of women
by men, and how they are slaves to masculinity. At the same time, these women were
degrading men to the role of an oppressing tyrant. Male poets, such as Jonathan Swift
and Thomas Gray, began to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eve s character Milton s Paradise Lost:
As I bent down to look, just opposite
A shape within the watery gleam appeared,
Bending to look on me: I started back,
It started back; but pleased I soon returned,
Pleased it returned as soon with answering looks
Of sympathy and love: There I had fixed

Both Eve and the female cat narcissistically become fascinated with their own
reflections, allowing themselves to become blinded from their unfortunate destinies,
which lead them to their own demise and self destruction. Another stereotypical
assumption of women is that they contain an unappeasable desire for material goods.
Since women are also exuding a newfound sense of control and power in the literary
world, Gray also illustrates that, stereotypically, women do not have any control or
power over the situations they place themselves in. The
Environmental Effects On Environment

Through industrial development we have diminished our soil, ruined farmland, trees
and have caused extinction of various species. All of these natural resources took
over hundreds of millions years to form and Americans have destroyed them all for
the need to build more. David Brower a prominent environmentalist says we have
diminished our soil, fisheries, fossil fuels and we have changed the climate. We
caused the extinction of countless species by half. Over consumption has reached a
point of harming Americans health and the overall environment. According to John
De Graaf, David Wann and Thomas H. Naylor sixty nine acres of prime American
farmland are lost to development. Once you cut down and pave over farms the land is
gone forever. The very thing that humanity relies on is being taken for granted.
Americas increase in consumption does have benefits but the negative effects on the
environment, American health and family outweigh the positive. What once was an
abundance of natural resources is now becoming hard to find. The magnitude that this
type of industrial development has on the environment is irreversible. The damage
we are doing can never be undone. Through our constant need for more we have
managed to change the climate. American Farmland Trust points out how 24 million
acres of agricultural land has been developed since 1982. In Bloomington Minnesota

A Summary On The Park The Santamonica North Beach
Looff gave the SantaMonica north beach an amusement that was the first success that
included the blue streak race roller coaster. The piers counsel was housed by the
hippodrome and currently the building still stands with the distinction of the first
national historic landmark of SantaMonica. The family of Looff ran the pieruntil 1923
when it was sold to the SantaMonica amusement company. These were a group of the
local businessmen whose main aim was to expand the amusement dream.
The SantaMonica pier
The SantaMonica pier is known for the gem, which is located at its southern end. The
Santa Monica pier is 106 years old. The pier is popular with photographed Ferris

rides and the games that are found at the pacific park. The visitors who visit the
ocean never miss to take a snap with the end of the route sign on the pier for the
legendary route 66. The 66 routes ends the 2500 mile a few blocks away from the
Olympic and the Lincoln boulevards.
Location of the building
The pier was constructed between 1908 and 1909. The SantaMonica pier is a double
jointed pier whose location is at the foot of Colorado Avenue in the SantaMonica city,

The town of SantaMonica had several piers; however the SantaMonica piers had
their own separate owners. The long and narrow municipal pier opened on the 9th of
September 1909. The main aim of the construction was to primarily carry the

Estrangement In Waiting For The Barbarians By David
Malouf
The Post colonial genre in litterature deals with several themes such as opression,
violence, and diffrences between civilized folks and uncivilized folks. The two
novels understudy are, Waiting for the Barbarians by J.M Coetzee and Remembering
Babylon by David Malouf, each published in 1980 and 1993. It principally deals with
the feeling of estrangement a man can feel when he is torn apart between his nature
and his community. It is legitimate to question what leads men to wonder about the
deeds that his community pushes him to do. To what extend a community or a power
can bring a man to a complete estrangement towards his community?
Throughout the novels there are several leitmotive that conduct the two protagonists

We re being raided by blacks. After so many false alarms it had come. (2). The

the fear. Gemmy is also referred to as it , which shows how much he is unworthy of

brutalized grandson. In the book they are referred as frank and filthy (10) by the
magistrate even though the reader perceives the growing estrangement of the

the book when Colonel Joll beats naked barbarians in front of the crowd not hatred,
not blood lust, but a curiosity so intense that their body are drained by it and only
their eyes live, organs of a new and ravening appetite. (115). Here the magistrate
estrangement towards the event and the empire is at its climax. Describing the scene
as an act of atrocity proves that the magistrate is completely estranged to

As the famous American politician Martin O Malley once said, The death penalty is
ineffective as a deterrent, and the appeals process is expensive and cruel to the
surviving family members. This quote explains that the death penalty is ineffective
and arises even more complications for the family of the accused. In addition, the
death penalty is a consequence that an accused pays for their crime. Moreover, the
Eighth Amendment is trespassed because the death penalty is considered cruel and
unusual punishment. Also, a former national basketball player and now a politician,

Thermo-Chemical Storage Systems Essay
Thermochemical heat storage can be physical (sorptive) or chemical based on the
material used. The storage system which does not involve the production of new
compound is called sorptive storage while those which involve formation of new
compound are called chemical storage. The successful thermochemical storage
system is sorptive storage system that works on utilizing the heatof reaction enthalpy.
Thermochemical storage has considerable benefits when compared to sensible and
the latent heat thermal energystorage systems since it is easily controllable which
prevents the heat loss. The features of sorptive heat storage technology enables the

The features like increased storage capacity, decreased heat loss to the environment
and flexibility of heat storage over a wide range of temperatures makes the
thermochemical storage system superior to other storage systems.
The sorptive technology involves the absorption or adsorption of molecules through
a reaction thereby storing heat. This kind of sorption system results in the formation
of physical bond between the reaction pair, adsorbent (A) and adsorptive (B), which
has a preferably high energy turnover. The preferred reaction is mostly reversible in
order to perform many charge and discharge cycles.
A + B ↔ AB + heat (see Figure 2) Figure 2: Schematic diagram of sorptive thermal
energy storage technology
When charging the compound, heat is applied to substance AB which dissociate into
separate A and B molecule/compound. The storage is facilitated by using certain
inhibitors that control the reverse reaction. To release heat, the A and B components
are reacted by removal of inhibitors, ultimately favoring the reaction, resulting in the
formation of compound AB and releasing heat. During this cyclic process, when the
reaction between A and B is prevented, the heat which can be stored due to chemical
energy cannot be released. The adsorbent such as zeolite (see Figure 3) react with
water thereby act as a sorptive storage material where adsorption of water

The two entertainment websites I found trigger problem recognition advertisements

American Express. This advertisement is a trigger because some people look to
celebrities for their fashion guidance, idolizing their images. This means they go to
any extreme to make a purchase and that includes taking on credit to make it happen.
The trigger of the advertisement is the possible need for money the browser may have.

to turn to the Internet as an avenue for cost effective marketing (Phillips et all,

For instance a magazine ad can cost thousands of dollars, yet an ad on Facebook

In 2010, there were 221 million internet users and 9 of 10 internet users visited a

Fissile Material Cut Off Test Research Paper
The Path Forward: Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty The establishment of fissile
material cut off treaty (FMCT) has long been a wish of proponents of nuclear
disarmament since the onset of the Cold War. The cries for a world without nuclear
weapons can be traced as far back to 1953 where US President Dwight D. Eisenhower
in his Atoms for Peace speech began to cast attention on the fearful atomic dilemma
and called for the eventual elimination of fissile material.3 It has proved a long
arduous journey towards agreement on a treaty and still seems far off in the distant
future. With the current stockpiles estimated to contain enough material to build

The continued conflict between India and Pakistan is the main driver behind the
stalling of Pakistan to move towards an FMCT. Pakistan claims that an FMCT
would lock in an unfair strategic advantage for India thus resulting in the
continuation of both countries building their nuclear arsenals making these two
countries the largest fissile material contributors.12 North Korea s production of
fissile material is centered on their belief that it provides regional security serving
as a nuclear deterrent preserving peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and
other parts of Northeast Asia. 12 Israel s lack of transparency regarding both its own
nuclear capability and/or production of fissile material further poses potential issues
in achieving consensus of an FMCT. This clear failure of the world can be attributed
to several reasons. Firstly, the extreme difficulty to achieve consensus can be looked
at through a simple mathematical approach. The sheer number of nations required to
reach a consensus on an issue such as this, fundamentally proves difficult. The
movement from the 192 nations of the UN to the 66 member states of the Conference
on Disarmament did increase the hope of consensus, but still the number may be too
Budweiser Commercial Essay
The commercial was established to persuade its viewers to drink Budweiser beer.
Men/Women and beer are just like the horse and puppy relationship in the

the relationship between beer and men/women shall be. The whole commercial
was most likely made to support Budweiser but it could also have an underlying
meaning. Possibly the sign at the beginning showing Puppy Adoption could be
significant showing viewers to adopt puppies. Furthermore, the morality of the
commercial was to assist the company in growing by getting more people to drink
Budweiser. Puppy Love, was originally aired during the Super Bowl XLVIII which
can be important due to the stereotype of viewers drinking beer while watching
football games, let alone the super bowl of all games. Therefore, airing this
commercial during the super bowl is a significant deal due to the amount of people

an agreement to allow the puppy to be with the horses, therefore feeling relieved they
grab a beer. With that statement, the puppy, horse, and beer are emphasized. Mainly
the puppy and horse due to the fact that the horse and puppy are in the entire

Online Piracy Essay
Assessment 1 Essay Online Communication How can traditional (or old media)
enterprises such as film, television and music overcome the threat of online piracy
and file sharing? Author: XXXXXXX Tutor: XXXXXXXX The rise of the Internet
era opened the whole new market for traditional media full of opportunities as well
as threats. Online piracy being one of them because the music and film industry loses
ВЈ5.4bn in a year and if it was reduced by 10% it could have created up to 13
thousand jobs in the UK. There are various attempts taken to fight with online piracy;
a case study of Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement will be considered as well as
other legislations attempting to regulate copyrights in the Internet. This... Show more

Such policy seems to be working with plagiarism at e.g. Universities, but in term of
intellectual property the intangible aspect of the product makes it more difficult to
control. Therefore stopping online piracy is easier said than done, as it would
require enormous human resources from a government to track down illegal
websites and taking a legal action against them leading to the closure. One case
study worth following regarding this issue was on the major streaming website

countries, i.e. Germany, where it is not perceived as downloading but has been

but now it has been set an example worldwide of tackling with piracy. On entering

Rifled Musket Research Paper
Rifled Musket Componenet Overview During the Civil War, rifled muskets were all
the rage. The Rifled Musket was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1858. These new type
of muskets had grooves inside of the barrel, meaning that if this gun was partnered
with the MiniГ© ball, it would increase both the range and the accuracy of the bullet.
The smooth bore musket(the previous generation of muskets) did not have grooves
in the barrel. This means that the bullet is not spinning as it exits and there is a
margin of error depending where the bullet exits. This severely reduces the accuracy
of a smooth bore musket. The farther the bullet goes, the more off target it travels
because of the aforementioned margin of error. The MiniГ© ball had grooves and had
Music And Its Impact On Development Of Musical...
INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Indie music and discussing its
impact with regard to the development of musical performances and production.
The word Indie is a term derived from the word Independent. Originally,
independent music referred to bands or artists who performed and/or produced
music autonomously and without the commercial rules and restrictions associated
with major record labels (Hale, 2014). As a result, this offered artists more freedom
of expression and a wider scope to push the musical boundaries. Throughout the
years the term Indie has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define.
Today Indie is recognised as a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to
another genre such as Indie Pop and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how
did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY
INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have been around
since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a
passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and
the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record
companies we know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As
far back as 1917 independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz
music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known
as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems, Brunswick
went
To What Extent Can Blanche Dubois Be Described as a
Victim...
This play is about people who display cruelty and harshness in their treatment to
others, especially those who are weak and vulnerable. Blanche Dubois is the
central victim of mistreatment even though she had tried to make Stanley the
victim. She displays her self as fragile and moth like, dealing out her share of
insensitivities that happened during her younger days. Also because of her moth
like image, the other characters see her as an easy target to knock down and use
her insecurities against her. Her figure and appearance also reveals her vulnerability
and delicacy. Slim figure, face of delicate, fading beauty All this and her clinging on
to material preferences, being reassured by alcohol make her a victim to ours and the

He desperate attempts to reinvent her self in front of Steila and Stanley ends up
with her sympathizing with her self and allowing them to pick up on her
disturbing past. On Stanley s behalf they end up rejecting her like she rejected her
husband and shortly enough she slips into her own insanity. It was not just her self
that put her in the lime light of being a victim; it is also her new change of
environment and people. Stanley is Stella s husband; he is described to be very
masculine and aware of his sexual magnetism. Strongly, compactly built . He is
mostly at ease with people however, if they lack loyalty and affection to him, he
will bully them. Especially women, as he believes them just to be easy conflict. It
is seen in scene 3 that Stanley has little respect for women. I said to hush up! This
is addressed to his wife who is seen emotionless and impassive in this play. As for
Blanche how is fussy and at edge, she would be very effected by the crude attitude
that Stanley presents and so tries to hysterical take Stella away from her husband.
Stanley does not forget of this act of interference and makes him all the more
determined to be rid of Stella s charity case . The real reason for Stanley s bulling
is that Blanche immediately received all Stella s attention. How about my supper
huh? I m not going to no Galatorires for supper This made Stella dominant in power
over Stanley and Blanche, something Stanley was not used to. I put you a cold plate
on ice .
Comparing The Grimm Brothers And The Little Mermaid
Contrasting the Grimm brother s version and Disney s version of The Little Mermaid.
Although both stories follow along with the same idea, they are entirely two
different stories. Having lesser detail, the original fairy tale was very short and
only gave the main character a name, a back story, and a goal. Disney s
interpretation was more decorated and told a much longer, kid friendly story. The
Grimm Brothers created a dark and simple fairy tale that was full of unexpected
twists and turns. Each sentence was very simple, and didn t add unnecessary details.
I would like to have read more about other characters, as it gave zero information on
any of the other characters past what kind of creature they were. I found it really
interesting to read something I thought was innocent come from something so
gloomy, and almost depressing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was more in depth, and it gave each character a back story a life. Understandably,
the story was harmless and all knots untied by the end. Princess Ariel gets the
prince, and they live happily ever after, except that s not how it was told in the
original. In fact, in the original the main character s name was Sirenetta. Ariel has
had this obsession with the surface for many years, collecting and gathering all
kinds of objects humans had used. Sirenetta was never allowed close to the sky
because she was not old enough. When she did reach of age, she had to receive a
flower so she could breath in
Changes In The Ottoman Empire
There have been a series of reforms within the Ottoman Empire initiated with the first
decree Hatt i Sharif of Gulhane in 1839. This has the beginning of the Tanzimat Era.
The reforms have been influenced by European ideas. Changing the Ottoman
theocratic government into a modern state. With the implement of freeing imprisoned
non Muslims and easing up the tensions of the conquered subjects of the Ottoman
Empireto prevent nationalistic uprisings, such as with the Greeks in 1821. The
Ottoman government has become more secular state for the non muslims
communities. This degree eliminated taxations of farming into a regular system of
assessing taxes, guaranteeing property to the subjects, reforming their military
structure to be more western
Informative Speech On Pumpkin Baking
Baking is an art that may seem simple, but is actually fairly complex. I m not
talking about buying a box of Betty Crocker cake mix, adding some eggs, water,
and vegetable oil, and sticking it in the oven. I m talking about real, from scratch,
tastes like your grandmother made it baking. Baking is a very precise form of
cooking. It is important to measure every ingredient carefully and pay close attention
to the steps in the recipe. That being said, bakingdoes not have to be boring. Once
you grasp the basics of baking, you will be able to make any recipe your own. It
actually becomes a quite addicting hobby. It may be messier and more difficult than
just buying that cakemix from the store, but it is also ten times the fun and tastes way
better! Today I am going to teach you how to make pumpkin bread. Pumpkin bread is
a great addition to any autumnal meal and even makes for a tasty snack just... Show

This recipe calls for the following ingredients: all purpose flour, white cane sugar,
baking soda, salt, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, eggs, canola oil, water, and
pureed pumpkin. After you have gathered your ingredients, you will want to find a
large mixing bowl. The bowl may seem too large with just the dry ingredients in it,
but this bowl will eventually hold the finished batter, so make sure it is large
enough! To this bowl you will add one and two thirds cup of all purpose flour.
Flour is the ingredient that gives your baked goods their nice, fluffy texture. Since
this recipe calls for all purpose flour and not self rising flour, you will also need to
add half a teaspoon of baking powder and three fourths a teaspoon of salt. After
this, you will add the remaining dry ingredients: one and a half cups of sugar, one
teaspoon of baking soda, and one teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. If you desire, you
may also add more spices to taste. Whisk the dry ingredients together until just
Tuberculosis In Hama
The rate of tuberculosis is increasing according to a medical source from the Syrian
city of Hama. In support of this statement, the internal medicine doctor, Kamal Al
Taqi, confirmed the rates are rising, and there have been multiple deaths due to the
resistance of the antibiotic treatment. As the evidence shows, these events take place
in the both Hama and northern Syrian regions. Throughout the city, numerous deaths
of small children and the elderly are caused tuberculosis(International Society for
Infectious Diseases, [ISID], 2017). Similarly, there are cases like those in Hama and
Northern regions occurring in Aleppo, considering the poor are highly susceptible to
diseases due to their social status and they do not have the money for... Show more

Additional city populations include Aleppo (4.2 million), Homs (1.6 million), Hama
(1.6 million), Lattakia (1 million). The climate is particularly desert; hot, dry, sunny
summers (June to August) and mild, rainy winters (December to February) along the
coast (Nationsonline.org, 2017).
Tuberculosis, also known as (TB), has been around for decades and is still active
across the globe. This infectious disease is caused by the bacterium called
Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria are commonly found in the lungs, but it
can spread to other organs such as the kidneys, spine, and brain. As expected, many
people believe that everyone who is exposed to TB will become ill, however this
not true. Regarding this, there are two TB related conditions exist: latent TB
infection (dormant) and TB disease (active). As evidence shows, you can die from
the disease if you do not seek treatment in a timely manner (CDC, 2017a). Anyone
can become infected with TB if they breathe in the bacteria that is spread by tiny
air droplets when a person coughs or speaks (CDC, 2017b). Further testing, such as
a chest x ray and a sample of sputum (mucus), is necessary to see whether the person
has TB disease (CDC, 2017c).
According to the World Health Organization, one of the top infectious killer
worldwide is Tuberculosis. In 2015, 10.4 million people contracted TB and while
another 1.8 million died from the disease (including 0.4
The Movie Donnie Darko By Richard Kelly
Donnie Darko follows a mentally troubled teenage boy after his family survives a jet
engine falling on their home. Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a
talking rabbit and eventually discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe
since his near death experience. To escape this alternate timeline and save his mother
and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he must be killed by the
engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of time
travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his
idea of reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and
states that everything we do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman
also believes that queers will not survive in the future because they are unable to
reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, challenges society s
unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear familyby juxtaposing a queer Donnie
with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee
Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of
reproductive futurism and explains the ending of the movie in which Donnie
sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive.
By exposing the flaws in the seemingly perfect Darko family, the film challenges its
viewers idea of what a perfect nuclear family is while creating a substantial difference
between the future
Meditation Analysis
Before I take this class, I know that meditation is just sitting on the floor, close eyes
and meditating. Because I did not know how to do it, I didn t know how difficult it
is. The first day of meditation class, I had hard time to follow. We were sitting on
the chair instead of floor. I thought meditation is only sitting on the floor. It was
interesting. Probably sitting on the chair is easier than floor; we all used to sitting
on the chair. I tried both at home on the floor, chair and bed. Sitting on the chair was
the best. It was comfortable and my body was more relax.
The first meditation in the class was difficult because I had too much thought in my
mind. I was trying to focus on my breaths, but after I count three, so much thoughts ...

I am used to make noise my ears with music or TV. If I stay quietly, I feel lonesome.
When I don t listen music, I researching online or play game with my phone. During
I do my assignment I turn on a fan in my room because I just need any sound. I just
could not stay in the quiet places. I thought it is good opportunity to calm down and

During I am taking meditation class, I did meditation almost everyday. It was easy to
sitting on the floor with right pose for ten minutes, but it was not easy to focus on
present moment. I kept judged myself that stop thinking about other things for few
days. Finally I found the way to aware of present moment. When I meditation, I aware
of sounds and smell. If I hear the sound of wind and leaves are shaking, I imagine that
I am at the mountain or field. Sometimes I imagine that I am at the snow clad
mountain. I look around. There are many mountains, but other mountains are lower
than the mountain that I am hiking. While I imagine them, I kept aware of present
moment.
During we do meditating in the class, we aware of any sensation on part of my body.
When Miss Julie said finger, I focused on my finger. When she said left ear, my ear
was sore. I used to get sored once a while, but I never got sore in the
Speech on God vs. Science
God vs. Science: 1 INTRODUCTION TO TOPIC: Good morning everyone present
here, before I start speaking, I would like to share a simple dilemma that I have in
my mind. This confusion is common, may it be any field in life. So, being a
soldier of my country I would quote in our context only. Question is in the battle
field when a soldier, a pilot in a jet plane, when face the enemy, what does he thinks
will be there with him to save him GOD OR THE WEAPON he has with him. As
you all must have got a hint of what is going to be the topic on which I am going to
speak today. The greatest debate, the mother of discussions, which is superior GOD
or SCIENCE. The soldier in the battle field would rely on the weapon in his hands,
which is a piece of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite of quarrelling and contradicting each other people must concentrate on
their life and duties towards their country and family. Doesn t matter what you
believe if you are doing the required , having a pious heart and clean intentions both
god and science will be your tools for excelling in your life. One may take the
domains as support or the fear of god and the love of the technology that makes
him/her do the correct thing. So personally my suggestion to every one debating
over the god vs. Science , leave the discussion and start trying to reason out the
differences they share and ultimately respect each other. As they say SCIENCE IS
GOD FOR THE SCIENTISTS , so may it be god or science they exist , and rather
glorify each others existence. Me personally , i m a believer in the all mighty god.
But also i am a logical person that accepts the innovations and the arguments that
science puts forward. Finally i would like to end the day with this great quote by a
great person ALBERT EINSTIEN he said Science without religion is lame. Religion
without science is blind. Thank
The Four Families of the Filovirus Ebola
The filovirus Ebola consists of 4 families: Marburg, Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, and
Ebola Reston. It is a rather simple virus in structure; each contain a single strand
RNA strand and 7 different proteins, 3 which are only slightly understood and 4 that
are completely unknown. The virus harms the immune system like the HIV virus, but
Ebolacauses an explosive attack. The virus is associated with the measles and
mumps family, pneumonia viruses, parainfluenza viruses which include colds, and
respiratory system related viruses. Unlike common viruses which are ball shaped,
Ebola s shape represents that similar to a shepherd s crook, a long snake like thread
that looks like a worm. Because the Ebola virus has a distinct structure, it has been
classified as a thread virus in its own family of viruses, the filoviruses.

Marburg (1st discovered)
She originated from an African organism but received a German name. First
identified in an old city of central Germany in 1967, Marburg devastated the town,
killing 1 out of 4 victims and causing effects that resembled rabies. Scientists
analyzed the virus structure and found strands and strands of tangled rope, some
wrapped in looks similar to donuts. In this way, for some time, Marburg was called
stretched rabies, its worm like shapes stretched out unlike the rabies virus which is
bullet shaped.
Effects
Marburg attacks human tissue like nuclear radiation, damaging the nervous system
and especially the brain. Victims

The creation of a formal endowment for Yale was triggered by the 1818
disestablishment of Congregationalism as Connecticut s state religion. Students and
alumni alike demanded that the school respond by establishing a divinity school to
offer theological instruction. To fund this effort, numerous alumni made large
gifts, the first in a series of successful fund drives. While Yale used many of these
donations to buy land and construct buildings, other funds were invested in
corporate and railroad bonds, as well as equities. By the century s end, the
endowment had reached $5 million. The growth of the endowment accelerated
during the first three decades of the twentieth century, due both to several
enormous bequests and to aggressive investments in equities, which represented
well over half the endowment s portfolio during the Roaring Twenties. In 1930,
equities were 42% of the Yale endowment; the average university had only 11.5%.3
Yale avoided severe erosion of its endowment during the Great Depression in the
1930s, however, because many recent bequests were kept in cash or Treasuries
rather than being invested in equities. In the late 1930s, Treasurer Laurence Tighe
decided that the share of equities in Yale s portfolio should be dramatically reduced.
Tighe argued that higher taxes were likely to expropriate any corporate profits that
equity holders would otherwise receive even if a recovery did occur. He concluded
that bonds would

Everyday Use Alice Walker Essay

  • 1. Everyday Use Alice Walker Essay Writing an essay on the topic "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, the story offers rich material for analysis, with its themes of heritage, identity, and the tension between tradition and modernity. On the other hand, delving into these themes requires a deep understanding of the characters, their motivations, and the historical context in which the story is set. One of the difficulties in writing such an essay lies in striking a balance between summarizing the plot and delving into deeper analysis. While it's important to provide a brief overview of the story for context, the heart of the essay lies in exploring Walker's themes and the ways in which they manifest in the characters' actions and relationships. Another challenge is avoiding oversimplification. "Everyday Use" is a nuanced story that resists easy categorization. Characters like Mama, Dee, and Maggie are complex individuals whose motivations are open to interpretation. Analyzing their actions requires careful attention to detail and a willingness to consider multiple perspectives. Furthermore, crafting a strong thesis statement can be challenging when tackling a story as multifaceted as "Everyday Use." The thesis should offer a unique perspective on the text while still being supported by evidence from the story itself. In conclusion, while writing an essay on "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be daunting, it also offers an opportunity to engage deeply with themes that resonate far beyond the confines of the story itself. By grappling with these themes and analyzing Walker's craft, students can develop critical thinking skills that will serve them well in academic and professional settings. • 2. Disneyland Is A New World Of Yesterday, Tomorrow, And Fantasy Over the entrance to Main Street in Disneyland is a quote by Walt Disney reading Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy (Disney). Even then Walt Disney knew what this park is because here I stand with my Aunt Laura, Cousin Ricky, and Sister Monica with among the thousands around us staring off at the dark and distant gates, waiting for entry through to the happiest place on earth. We all stand with impatience and excitement, for we know what is to come will surely be an adventure into a new world filled with amazing attractions and attacks on nostalgia that if only for a moment can take someone back to their childhood. First thing I see after crossing the threshold is a rather large Mickey Mouse flower pattern that is a beacon to all that enter, calling all visitors to take a picture as the perfect backdrop, however, we decide to walk past and walk through, as Walt Disney called it on the sign above, yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy. A wave of nostalgia washes over me, and a brief childlike wonder set in at the sight of Main Street. Shaken out of my nostalgia, I hear the sound before I see a marching band playing, the trolley in the distance, and kids and adults alike lining up to take a picture with Disney characters. My Aunt Laura among them, wanting to take pictures, and my Cousin Ricky reluctantly obliges. Now, we are heading up Main Street, seeing the early 20th century style architecture and I can see the Disney castle in the
  • 3. The Diffuse And The Concentrated Model Of Judicial Review VI. CONCLUSION The choice between the diffuse and the concentrated model of judicial review (and, within the concentrated family of systems, between the supreme court version and the constitutional court version) is often understood to reflect a divide among two competing theories of constitutional law. One theory perceives constitutional law as, first and foremost, a field of law, to which regular adjudicatory method is applicable, along with its assumptions of professionalism, objectivism, and interpretivism. This theory aligns with the diffuse model of judicial review, since it leaves constitutional jurisdiction in the hands of the professional judiciary. A contrasting theory posits constitutional law as a unique field of normative ordering, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping judicial review within the courts, as the diffuse model urges, will not turn the interpretation and application of the constitution into an objective endeavor, free from moral, ideological, or theoretical commitments or from class, culture, and other group influences. Similarly, placing the constitution away from the regular judiciary, as the concentrated model urges, will not relieve „legal‟ adjudication from the political stakes that are involved in any exercise of judicial power, constitutional or otherwise. Classifying constitutional law as more or less „political,‟ therefore, offers no real guidance as to the optimal jurisdictional arrangement for the exercise of judicial review; Israel has effectively defied this
  • 4. Punnett Square Stereotypes A Punnett Square is a simplified tool used for predicting the probability of the appearance of a certain trait in an offspring of two parents, each of whom contributes two alleles that subsequently combine to produce the four, possible genotypes. When an allele is dominant, it annuls the appearance of any recessive allele; thus, both parents must contribute a recessive allele for a recessive trait to appear. If both parents have heterozygous genotypes, possessing both a dominant and a recessive allele, then, according to the Punnett Square, only a twenty five percent chance exists that their offspring will express a recessive trait. In my family, comprised with two heterozygous parents and four individual offsprings, who outwardly exhibit this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As noted, from a young age, my parents raised me to think musically. Consequently, now, whenever I hear any song, my Pavlovian response kicks in, as I find the song s meter and imagine its rhythms as dots on a page. Although my knack for music may not be inherent, it is unmistakingly automatic. Music is now ingrained into my brain, as I tap my toe involuntarily to every beat, anticipate every chord change, and cringe at every note that is even slightly out of tune. Undeterred by my disinclination for a musical career, my family and, naturally, all of my surroundings continually foster my ever growing, learned passion for music. Although I cannot imagine myself soloing in Carnegie Hall years from now, I also cannot imagine living my life void of music, with its familiarity and surprise, its comfort and sorrow, its rigidity and versatility. The addition of music in my otherwise non musical life gives me more than just a hobby, but an understanding of multiple perspectives coming together as one, giving me a broader image of the world around me. Unlike simplified Punnett Squares, music does not just chose one factor over another, but rather layers multiple elements together, allowing each to simultaneously exist, furthermore resulting in symphonies, like me, a melody of predetermined,
  • 5. Dbq 4 The Jewish People Q8. The first picture that had stood out to me was the one where the Jewish people were standing in two lines in front of the officers. The men, women, and children all stood awaiting the officers who stood in front of them. The Jewish people stood there unaware of what was to come. In this picture, the Jewish people are still seen wearing their clothes, coats, hats, etc. wearing what they had brought with them. They all still had their shoes on and their hair was still upon their heads. The reason I bring these points up is because shortly after this photo would be taken, their lives would surely be changed forever. I can t help but think that in a few minutes they would no longer possess their clothes, shoes, hair, golden teeth, or anything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This photo may look like it just shows a large group of people standing in a line, it shows so much beyond that. This photo contains Jewish men, women, and children awaiting a horrible fate. The officers in the photo would be the ones who would decided rather someone would live or die. The worst part about that, is that most of the officers would not lose a single night of sleep no matter how many families they separated or how many people they had condemned to death that day. The Jewish people s fate would be decided by one man s decision to send them left or right, that is what it came down to. This thought had a huge impact on me, by looking at this photo, I would be looking at people who were minutes away from their gruesome deaths. Many of them had no idea what was about to happen. In a few short minutes, they would be torn away from their family members, stripped of all of their belongings and clothing, they would be stripped of their dignity. Some of the Jews would be sent off to work if the generals had picked them to, the rest would be burned to death in the ovens. In my opinion, this photo has a lot more meaning to it then people would originally

Communication The vitality of communication is very important. Robbins and Judge (2007) tells us that an idea, no matter how great, is useless until it is transmitted and understood by others according to chapter 11 (Organizational Behavior). Without the function of communication, it is impossible for anything to go on; nothing will exist. In order for communication to take place, it must be a phase of transmission of meaning from one person to another and the meaning must be understood. The most useful concept or idea is communication. Communication is what makes things or break things. The effectiveness of how the well the communication is will determine the outcome of any situation. Anyone can communicate, but as stated before, there must be transmission and meaning. Realistically, all of the concepts and issues relate to the organization. Everyday, argumentation is performed. Why do you feel this is adequate for the company? Not only argumentation, but decisions are made throughout the entirety of the day. Have the decisions been thought out? Will this solve the problem or make a difference? Lastly, there is communication. Communication will determine to what extent the work will get completed, and how well information was perceived. All of these aspects are essential in an organization and helps make the organization better place. Conclusion In conclusion, reading the material gave the opportunity
  • 7. Benefits And Benefits Of Retirement Options Essay Introduction Companies and government entities enable employees to prepare for future retirement by offering employees a variety of retirement options. Retirement options are broken into two categories: defined benefit plans and defined contributed plans. Defined benefit plans include pension plans, which allow employees to receive guaranteed payments calculated by focusing on the number of years of job commitment and average yearly salary. Additionally, the employer takes on the investment risk instead of the employee. Contributions by any of the parties are optional, however, contributions are mandatory for defined contribution plans. Popular examples include 401(k) or 403(b) plans, which employees can elect to include a portion of a paycheck to the plan as a contribution twice a month (Defined Benefit Plan 2016) (Defined Contribution Plan 2016). Current Retirement Plan Options Up through February 2011, Wal Mart Stores, Inc. used the profit sharing plan in which the company matched 4% of employee contribution. The CEO at the time, Michael Duke, pledged to reduce accumulated expenses and increase net income from decreasing sales by implementing the use of the company 401(k) plan. U.S. employees are approved for 401(k) eligibility upon hire and able to beginning contributing to the plan immediately. Puerto Rican employees also are able to enroll in the offered 401(k) plan

Reactive Attachment Disorder Of Children Reactive Attachment Disorder in Children Introduction to the Diagnosis According to Bowlby, the founder of attachment theory, a dependable, safe, and caring relationship with a primary caregiver is vital to an infant s psychological health (Bowlby, 1951). In particular, children lacking a secure attachment with their primary caregivers are at risk of developing emotional and behavioral issues (Blakely Dziadosz, 2015). Unfortunately, the human bonds normally formed in infancy are fractured in neglected and abused children suffering from RAD (Shi, 2014). • 12. How I Really Like The Opening Sentence First of all, I really like the opening sentence. It immodestly caught my attention and made me want to read more. It explains how it can be easy to forget that we all live in a physical world. We are actually part of something, not just an imagination. It then goes on to explain that we live in such a digital age, and everything we hear, see, games, apps, videos, news articles, and photographs are produced by us, real humans. But the things that we consider genuine do not actually exist. This really makes you think, what does this mean? Well, for example I am reading this on my laptop, and the letters I am reading an typing are conceived as impulses or energy rather than things. Old photos have been scanned and made digital. Even though we can hold the printed imagephysically, it has a place in the world. It s occupying space. The mid 1940 s has physical presence as well. The images I am about to talk about are accurate representations of a city struggling to rebuild and again some sense of normality after suffering destruction of WW2. The damage of the images, like the spot, mold, etc, are eerie but they provide another way to consider what we call real. All of the things McAvoy captured, did happen. Yet, after the war, the only to you could find was hunger, cold, and depression. His images were taken and transformed into something else that was ear abstract, ghostly works, within which one can still see remnants of the robust photojournalism that McAvoy

Lab Report For Chemistry Lab Kennedi Wilson CHE 1121 010 TA Grace Samenuk 28 August 2015 Purpose of the Lab: Gathering a viable understanding of the basic practices that substantial in conducting experiments in a chemistry lab is critical. In such, the purpose of this lab is to exhibit such foundations through evaluation various ways of measurement as well learning to distinguish between properties and doing so via equipment provided in the lab. The types of measurement that will be highlighted include mass, volume and density; mass as being referred to as a definite amount of matter typically revealed in the form of grams (g), volume being defined as a specific amount of space taken up by a form shown in the form of milliliters (mL), liters (L), centimeters cubed (cm3) or many others, and density being defined as a ratio of mass over volume. Observing how these measurements change depending on the substance or object is extremely beneficial. Such ways of measurement further aid in differentiating chemical and physical properties. Chemical and physical properties are what define and categorize substances. Chemical properties depict the manner in which substances behave in reactions and include the formation of a new substance, or a change in the identity of a substance. For example, oxidation or explosions are chemical changes, but in real life so is something as simple as yogurt spoiling. Physical properties do not demonstrate compositional changes or identity changes of a

Summary Of Edward Hoagland s Essay On Stuttering Jaclyn Grimm Mrs. McGinn AP Lang 17 August 2015 On Stuttering One of America s finest essayists, Edward Hoagland, in his essay, On Stuttering describes how his handicap has affected his life. Hoagland s intention is to suggest that although his disability has made his life more difficult, it is a part of his life none the less, and has pushed him to become a better person. He adopts a somewhat scholarly tone, using complex vocabulary in an effort to convey to his readers that his disability has allowed him to excel as much as it has held him back. Hoagland begins his essay with an analogy to help the audience understand his stutter in a clear and visual way. He likens his handicap to trying to run with loops of rope around your feet (Hoagland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He recalls that people often told him to write things down when he struggled with speaking, and then mentions he sold his first novel before he graduated from college. Hoagland mentions this not to brag about his accomplishment, but to serve as an example of how he has not let his stutter drag him down. Rather, he has used the handicap as a way to push himself further. He asks, How many opinions can you keep to yourself before you choke on them? (Hoagland 115). While he isn t always able to eloquently speak about his ideas, he has been able to form intelligent opinions based on his ability to attentively listen. Turning to writing, not only is Hoagland able to form ideas and write about them unhindered, he also is able to be a better writer because of his stutter. Because he is unable to pause and think of exact words while speaking, he does the opposite in his writing. Using clear yet intricate word choices such as schadenfreude , stymieing , and ancillary eccentricity (Hoagland 115), he is able to describe exactly what he means. On the other hand, aspects of Hoagland s stutter do creep into his writing style. In regard to his use of syntax, his sentences are almost all long and complex, an attribute coming from his desire to get as many words out as he can. He does, however, use an unusual amount of commas throughout the entire essay to add pauses, a stylist

Dazed and Confused and American Graffiti American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused are both nostalgic, coming of age films that comically portray the characters interpersonal struggle and transition from their teenage, high school years into adulthood. Both films are period pieces that take the audience back in time, to a time when life seemed much simpler than it is today. These types of films are almost always hits because of their relatability to the audience. The soundtracks featured in each of these films plays a significant role in the storylines. American Graffiti (1973), is an Academy Award winning film directed by George Lucas, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat and Charles Martin Smith. American Graffiti is a vignette of the four main characters, Steve (Ron Howard) the privileged child with a conservative demeanor and appearance; Curt (Richard Dreyfuss) the intellectual thinker, John (Paul Le Mat) the tough guy known for drag racing his 1932 Ford Coupe Deville and Terry (Charles Martin Smith) the nerdy buddy, desperate for the attention of females, and the friend you would forever defend. The friends are enjoying a typical night in small town Modesto, California while cruising the strip. Mels Diner, the local liquor store, make out point and cruising strip set the backdrop, while the radio show of Wolf man Jack sets the era. The music in the film is not only heard by the audience but by the characters as well. Each song is carefully choreographed to enhance the scenes. The

My father used to let me ride on the back with him when I was a young child. I remember the feeling that I would get when he would accelerate. As soon as I could touch the ground, I owned a dirt bike. I used to love going fast and wheeling down the road for the neighborhood girls to see. We used to spend hours working on bikes together. That is when I started to become obsessed with motorcycles. January 31st, 2016 is the day that I got my first motorcycle. It was the day my fiancГ© and I were moving to Jacksonville, Florida. We drove for about twenty minutes, until I got a call from my cousin. He said, Cody I will trade my motorcycle for your car. So, we met in the Walmart parking lot in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. When he pulled up with the motorcycle, I was excited. Then, I took a joy ride around the parking lot. I could not believe I finally could have my own motorcycle. I traded my car with a bad transmission for the bike. We were barely able to pick the back of the bike up to get it in the U Haul truck. When we got here the movers had beat us here, and were waiting impatiently. So, when we opened the back of the truck and they saw my heavy motorcycle they were thrilled. Five months later, I have been living here for a little while now and driving my motorcycle everywhere has become normal for me. One night, I was on my way to work at the nursing home. I was

Kowalski and Dubois Differing Values in A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire is a play founded on the premise of conflicting cultures. Blanche and Stanley, the main antagonists of the play, have been brought up to harbour and preserve extremely disparate notions, to such an extent that their incompatibility becomes a recurring theme within the story. Indeed, their differing values and principles becomes the ultimate cause of antagonism, as it is their conflicting views that fuels the tension already brewing within the Kowalski household. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tennesse Williams utilises setting to expose his characters. Blanche s fallacy is highlighted by her inappropriate clothing, a discordance reinforced by the squalor of Stella s home. Indeed, Blanche s immediate expression of shocked disbelief when viewing the place for the first time, and her later condemnation of Elysian Fields, in which she says to her sister what are you doing in a place like this? and why didn t you tell me that you had to live in these conditions? reveals her superior attitude. It is evident that her upbringing in Belle Reve is the culprit for her presumptuous manner. However, Stella s polite civility in the face of her sister s overbearing supremacy shows that the principles of Dubois heritage have not manifested themselves in all its members. She is meek, almost resigned when confronted with such rudeness. She offers to pour the drinks and discloses important information with the line You never did give me a chance to say much. So I just got in the habit of being quiet around you. This contradicts the idea of the Dubois family having very different notions to the Kowalski s, as Stella has not been absorbed by the pretension of Belle Reve. The old fashioned values

Writers such as Aphra Behn, Mary Leapor and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu published their works alongside many respected male poets such as Jonathan Swift and Thomas Gray. Women were gaining a sense of independence and emancipation from the traditional patriarchal rule, and this was occurring at an increasingly rapid pace. Many female poets of the time wrote works that dealt with the treatment of women by men, and how they are slaves to masculinity. Environmental Effects On Environment Shavonne Devine Prof. Welsh Eng 1A (6403) 18 Sept. 2017 Through industrial development we have diminished our soil, ruined farmland, trees and have caused extinction of various species. All of these natural resources took over hundreds of millions years to form and Americans have destroyed them all for the need to build more. David Brower a prominent environmentalist says we have diminished our soil, fisheries, fossil fuels and we have changed the climate. We caused the extinction of countless species by half. Over consumption has reached a point of harming Americans health and the overall environment. According to John De Graaf, David Wann and Thomas H. Naylor sixty nine acres of prime American farmland are lost to development. Once you cut down and pave over farms the land is gone forever. The very thing that humanity relies on is being taken for granted. Americas increase in consumption does have benefits but the negative effects on the environment, American health and family outweigh the positive. What once was an abundance of natural resources is now becoming hard to find. The magnitude that this type of industrial development has on the environment is irreversible. The damage we are doing can never be undone. Through our constant need for more we have managed to change the climate. The features like increased storage capacity, decreased heat loss to the environment and flexibility of heat storage over a wide range of temperatures makes the thermochemical storage system superior to other storage systems. The sorptive technology involves the absorption or adsorption of molecules through a reaction thereby storing heat. This kind of sorption system results in the formation of physical bond between the reaction pair, adsorbent (A) and adsorptive (B), which has a preferably high energy turnover. The preferred reaction is mostly reversible in order to perform many charge and discharge cycles. A + B ↔ AB + heat (see Figure 2) Figure 2: Schematic diagram of sorptive thermal energy storage technology When charging the compound, heat is applied to substance AB which dissociate into separate A and B molecule/compound. The storage is facilitated by using certain inhibitors that control the reverse reaction. During this cyclic process, when the reaction between A and B is prevented, the heat which can be stored due to chemical energy cannot be released. Fissile Material Cut Off Test Research Paper The Path Forward: Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty The establishment of fissile material cut off treaty (FMCT) has long been a wish of proponents of nuclear disarmament since the onset of the Cold War. The cries for a world without nuclear weapons can be traced as far back to 1953 where US President Dwight D. Eisenhower in his Atoms for Peace speech began to cast attention on the fearful atomic dilemma and called for the eventual elimination of fissile material.3 It has proved a long arduous journey towards agreement on a treaty and still seems far off in the distant future. With the current stockpiles estimated to contain enough material to build 60,000 first generation nuclear weapons using highly enriched uranium (HEU) alone, stopping... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The continued conflict between India and Pakistan is the main driver behind the stalling of Pakistan to move towards an FMCT. Pakistan claims that an FMCT would lock in an unfair strategic advantage for India thus resulting in the continuation of both countries building their nuclear arsenals making these two countries the largest fissile material contributors.12 North Korea s production of fissile material is centered on their belief that it provides regional security serving as a nuclear deterrent preserving peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and other parts of Northeast Asia. 12 Israel s lack of transparency regarding both its own nuclear capability and/or production of fissile material further poses potential issues in achieving consensus of an FMCT. This clear failure of the world can be attributed to several reasons. Firstly, the extreme difficulty to achieve consensus can be looked at through a simple mathematical approach. The sheer number of nations required to reach a consensus on an issue such as this, fundamentally proves difficult. The movement from the 192 nations of the UN to the 66 member states of the Conference on Disarmament did increase the hope of consensus, but still the number may be too

At the end, the screen shows #bestbuds which is what they believe the relationship between beer and men/women shall be. The whole commercial was most likely made to support Budweiser but it could also have an underlying meaning. Possibly the sign at the beginning showing Puppy Adoption could be significant showing viewers to adopt puppies. Furthermore, the morality of the commercial was to assist the company in growing by getting more people to drink Budweiser. Puppy Love, was originally aired during the Super Bowl XLVIII which can be important due to the stereotype of viewers drinking beer while watching football games, let alone the super bowl of all games. Therefore, airing this commercial during the super bowl is a significant deal due to the amount of people watching. Such policy seems to be working with plagiarism at e.g. Universities, but in term of intellectual property the intangible aspect of the product makes it more difficult to control. These new type of muskets had grooves inside of the barrel, meaning that if this gun was partnered with the MiniГ© ball, it would increase both the range and the accuracy of the bullet. The smooth bore musket(the previous generation of muskets) did not have grooves in the barrel. This means that the bullet is not spinning as it exits and there is a margin of error depending where the bullet exits. This severely reduces the accuracy of a smooth bore musket. The farther the bullet goes, the more off target it travels because of the aforementioned margin of error. The MiniГ© ball had grooves and had
  • 43. Music And Its Impact On Development Of Musical... INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Indie music and discussing its impact with regard to the development of musical performances and production. The word Indie is a term derived from the word Independent. Originally, independent music referred to bands or artists who performed and/or produced music autonomously and without the commercial rules and restrictions associated with major record labels (Hale, 2014). As a result, this offered artists more freedom of expression and a wider scope to push the musical boundaries. Throughout the years the term Indie has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define. Today Indie is recognised as a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to another genre such as Indie Pop and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have been around since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record companies we know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As far back as 1917 independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems, Brunswick went

Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a talking rabbit and eventually discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe since his near death experience. To escape this alternate timeline and save his mother and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he must be killed by the engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of time travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his idea of reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and states that everything we do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman also believes that queers will not survive in the future because they are unable to reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, challenges society s unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear familyby juxtaposing a queer Donnie with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of reproductive futurism and explains the ending of the movie in which Donnie sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive. By exposing the flaws in the seemingly perfect Darko family, the film challenges its viewers idea of what a perfect nuclear family is while creating a substantial difference between the future

It is a rather simple virus in structure; each contain a single strand RNA strand and 7 different proteins, 3 which are only slightly understood and 4 that are completely unknown. The virus harms the immune system like the HIV virus, but Ebolacauses an explosive attack. The virus is associated with the measles and mumps family, pneumonia viruses, parainfluenza viruses which include colds, and respiratory system related viruses. Unlike common viruses which are ball shaped, Ebola s shape represents that similar to a shepherd s crook, a long snake like thread that looks like a worm. Because the Ebola virus has a distinct structure, it has been classified as a thread virus in its own family of viruses, the filoviruses. The creation of a formal endowment for Yale was triggered by the 1818 disestablishment of Congregationalism as Connecticut s state religion. Students and alumni alike demanded that the school respond by establishing a divinity school to offer theological instruction. To fund this effort, numerous alumni made large gifts, the first in a series of successful fund drives. While Yale used many of these donations to buy land and construct buildings, other funds were invested in corporate and railroad bonds, as well as equities. By the century s end, the endowment had reached $5 million. The growth of the endowment accelerated during the first three decades of the twentieth century, due both to several enormous bequests and to aggressive investments in equities, which represented well over half the endowment s portfolio during the Roaring Twenties. In 1930, equities were 42% of the Yale endowment; the average university had only 11.5%.3 Yale avoided severe erosion of its endowment during the Great Depression in the 1930s, however, because many recent bequests were kept in cash or Treasuries rather than being invested in equities. In the late 1930s, Treasurer Laurence Tighe decided that the share of equities in Yale s portfolio should be dramatically reduced. Tighe argued that higher taxes were likely to expropriate any corporate profits that equity holders would otherwise receive even if a recovery did occur. He concluded that bonds would
