The Chrysler Building Essay
Today technology allows us to construct structures that we would never have been able to make in the
past. Some of the creations are impressive based on what they accomplish but others are masterpieces
in themselves. Man s capability to build such tall buildings, as the skyscrapers we are familiar with
covering our cities today, is a major expression of the advancements we have made as a culture. The
power necessary to build such tall structures inspired competition between architects to see who could
build the tallest one. One skyscraper that has inspired many and served as a model, for high rise
buildings that were created after, is the Chrysler Building. The Chrysler Building serves as an
identifying mark to anyone that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although these problems were corrected and the idea of building a skyscraper became a feasible task,
there were many conditions that had to be taken into account, that did not need consideration when
building a structure less than 40 stories tall. Four story buildings are supported by their own walls;
however a new method needed to be created for skyscrapers since the previous building method would
not provide enough support. Metal skeletal frames made of columns and beams were then developed
to provide the support and strength needed for the skyscrapers. As the buildings grew taller, their
structural design was made lighter and stiffer. Also, as the buildings grew taller, wind became an
important issue. Normally, the force that acts on the skyscraper pushes directly downward towards the
ground that would then counter balance that push. However, when an additional force acts on it, such
as wind, the forces would act differently on the skyscraper. With a lateral force acting on the building,
the steel columns of the frame on the windy side would stretch apart slightly while the columns on the
other side would compress. Therefore, the skeletal frame built had to be made so that the structure
would be free to move slightly with the wind and, at the same time, remain sturdy.
The initial plan for this particular skyscraper built on

Submission to Local Network
Submission to Local Network October 1, 2010 Dear Sir/Madam, As the signatory of the UN Global
Compact, Cadbury has implemented many initiatives in its CSR strategy and has done a lot to
implement the ten principles. In this report, I am writing on behalf of Cadbury to propose the
recommendations for the implementation of the following two in the ten principles of the Global
Compact. Principle one requires that business should respect human rights including those in the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And businesses are asked to do something to undertake more
environmental responsibility under principle eight. As an established industry leader in the areas of

Nestle, another big company in our industry, has also assessed the societal interests from different
ranges of stakeholders when making their decisions and create shared value across each stage of its
value chain. Overall, we believe if these recommendations are put into practice by our Network
members, they will be able to perform better in human rights and environment issues and win good
reputation for their business and this will bring good economic outcomes in the long term. Also, for
the Local Network, when more businesses do better in undertaking their responsibility in these issues,
the Principles of the Global Compacts will be implemented better. Of course, there will be some
challenges and risks when these recommendations are carried out. The possible challenges may
include the unclear responsibility between different departments in the company. For example, our
HRET should be carried out in the human resource department and departments with procurement
functions. So when put into practice, it did not go smoothly. To solve this problem, we propose
someone be appointed to act as a go between in different departments. Also, it should be clear in the
corporate policy that the cooperation between these departments is needed to address the human rights
and environmental problems.

Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era
Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had
restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not
grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be
submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her
husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the
mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want
to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a
period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard,
started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out
and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian
Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman

The Futile Goal of Nicholas Branch in Don DeLillo s Libra...
The vast amount of evidence associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, an event
that occurred more than fifty years ago, is still being collected and examined by an array of scientists,
professional historians, and conspiracy theorists. Periodically, with continuous developments and
improvements in technology, new information is being discovered that either relates to an existing
theory about the assassination or inspires additional assumptions about the identity and location of
another supposed shooter. According to author Don DeLillo, the immense quantity of the information
pertaining to the heinous crime committed in Dallas on November 22nd of 1963 will never lead to or
reveal a comprehensive and conclusive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels as if he must make meaning out of all the material in his possession and so, because he does
not know how to accomplish this, he remains perpetually immobile in his attempt to uncover and write
the true history of the assassination. Branch s objective to investigate all the facts about the
assassination places him in a chaotic situation. It is impossible for him to account for every detail,
fact, and occurrence linked to Kennedy s assassination because there is already too much information
for him to examine and much that has yet to be discovered. Christopher M. Mott, in his essay Libra
and the Subject of History , comments on Branch s need for absolute closure and the chaotic results
that arise: The novel implies that the version of the world that informs our government s practices and
dominates our episteme intends to account for every detail of existence. It employs a totalizing
discourse, a discourse of rational examination and explanation. Libra clearly indicates that this
penchant for total explanation leads, in fact, to total chaos. We simply cannot account for every detail,
every nuance. (143)
Branch s desire to piece together the factual events of the assassination has led to his abandonment of
life. He will forever be confined to his, as DeLillo describes, room of theories (57) since he must study
everything about the event. However, the CIA is constantly supplying him

Importance Of Management And Leadership Within Public Health
IMPORTANCE OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP WITHIN PUBLIC HEALTH
INTRODUCTION
This essay explains the meaning of management and leadership, emphasizing on the various theories,
models and styles of these concepts. Management and leadership skills are also outlined. These are
then related to public health and analyzed to suggest what is most suitable and can be applied in the
public health setting.
MANAGENENT AND LEADERSHIP
The concepts of leadership and management are often viewed in different ways with different theories
and schools of thought regarding the meaning of these terms (Gold, Thorpe and Mumford, 2010).
Management and leadership can be defined individually and encompass different roles and attributes,
however, both management and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever the outcome at the end of the day, it is the manager who is responsible. This means that
rather than forces or facts, it is people that manage; and the perception, commitment and
accountability of managers are the determining factors of success of failure when it comes to
management. Therefore, it can be deduced that managers act or execute plans but it is management
that determines if goals are going to be achieved or not by bringing people and tasks together
(Drucker, 2012). Management is what holds an institution together and makes it work (Drucker,
2012).
Likewise, leadership is multi faceted and can apply to many different situations (Stanfield, 2009). E sa
(2012) described leadership as getting people to perform tasks in order to achieve certain aims.
Stanfield argues that leadership is largely based on experience and does not necessarily depend on the
number of followers and that to be able to lead effectively; one must also be able to follow. This is
supported by Adeniyi (2010) who adds that there are many forms of leadership and leaders possess
different traits and temperaments. Stanfield states that factors such as moral standards and integrity
play a role in effective leadership. Leaders are often said to charismatic and possessing the skill that
enables them to draw others to their visions or ideas. Although seen as a good quality, he points out
that charisma can be either constructive or destructive, depending on how it is channeled

Early LGBT Rights Movements
There was also moral and cultural disapproval of early LGBT rights movements, such as nazi and neo
nazi groups, that made it difficult for growth within the gay rights movement to arise. As soon as the
Nazis gained control in Europe, they set the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a group devoted to help
gays become free, on fire ( Gay ). Because of the Nazis great dislike for homosexuals, they began to
treat all homosexuals horribly by sending them to concentration camps which lead to a complete halt
of progress for the gay rights movement ( Gay ). However, even after World War Two, Nazi groups
still managed to spread their biased views. Neo Nazi groups, people who believe in nazi like concepts
subsequent to World War 2, began to form across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting in the mid 1900s, many homosexuals were forced to go into jail or lose their jobs or even
custody over their own children simply for being a homosexuals since gays were considered being
sick, or a criminal ( Gay ). A few people considered homosexuality to be a sickness that could be
treated with a special type of therapy. This therapy was called reparative therapy, a therapy designed to
alter homosexual individuals to become heterosexuals. The therapy was based off the concept that
homosexuality is a behavioral issue or illness that needs to be cured (Morris). In the 1960s, many gays
faced the possibility of psychiatric lockup where they would be put through horrible circumstances to
cure the illness that they were facing ( Gay ). Although for a majority of the 1900s homosexuality was
seen as an illness that needed to be cured, it was also seen as a mental issue that caused those
diagnosed to perform preposterous activities. For example, not only was the idea that homosexuals
were prostitutes and child molesters introduced, but also even the idea that homosexuals were
murdered because of their mental illness (Newman). Also, in the earlier 1900s, some Americans began
to see that those who participated in homosexual behavior as illegal drug users (Newman). Since
homosexuality was seen as a illness and mental problem, the early LGBT rights movement had

A Case Study of One Student s Approach to Reading The Divine Image
Hypothesis
When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks, her first response to
the poem, The Divine Image, by William Blake changed as she followed the direction of each task and
built on her previous understanding of the poem. I describe her responses to the eight learning paper
tasks and her dissection of the poem for hidden meanings.
The Tasks and Various Interpretations
For each learning paper, Marielle was given eight different ways to interpret
The Divine Image, by William Blake. Learning paper 1 asked her to read the poem out loud, write
down any ideas that came to mind, then write a summary of what the ... Show more content on

For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words that made a strong
impact on her. What Marielle did was define some of the words she felt were strong Mercy, Pity, Love
and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she identified key words,
she felt that this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as
God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities. She
looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments next to the
definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed.
I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song itself. The divine
image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love.
The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and
actions.
She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the
beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that the
characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn t use
the dictionary s literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version
of the poem with the words of the

In the taletelling community of Maycomb, in south Alabama during the 1930s, a compassionate man
is misjudged and treated unkindly because rumors spread about him portraying him as insane and
dangerous. Boo Radley, a character from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a shy man
with an unfortunate past, who stays in his home all day due to the hurtful lies his neighbors tell. Two
young children, Jean Louise Scout and Jem Finch believe the neighborhood gossip, and stay far away

Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our
neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good luck pennies, and our
lives (373). Boo s heartfelt presents for Jem and Scout conveys his compassion for the children and
the contrast between his real deportment and the false persona Maycomb makes him out to be. The
inhumanity of Maycomb s rumors is evident as they pretend a gentle person is evil. After Boo saves
her and Jem s life, Scout realizes her and Maycomb s wrongs for judging Boo before they met him,
telling Atticus, When [we] finally saw him, why he hadn t done any of those things . . . Atticus, he was
real nice . . . (376). When Scout is aware that she had never met Boo before she judged him, she
recognizes her wrong, and that he hadn t done any of those things that she believed from the rumors.
She understands that the ruthless lies they told harmed Boo, since he is afraid to go outside his home
with the reputation Maycomb gave him. Even though Boo is a compassionate and loving man,
Maycomb discriminates him based on rumors until he stays inside so as not to be treated unfairly for

Adverse Possession Is A Method
Adverse possession is a method by which a trespasser gains legal title to a property by occupying it
for some time period. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a
mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse
possession. However, ownership of property for public use for instance school property or a highway
cannot be lost through adverse possession.
The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a squatter
could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the law has been
seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the squatter had
proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a landlord s
actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other rights of the
landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a property for 20
years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to 12 years of
exclusive dispossession.
The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in 1275
which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing claims
that were dated. Land records in early England were poor and illiteracy was high, therefore,
possession was the best evidence of

The hypothesis is: if the age group is 12th grade, then the conformity will decrease. By testing
whether or not a group of students will give into peer pressure when given the answer, their

Populism In Latin America
Introduction.
In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any
scholar has a vision of what characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of
populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this respect, as many researchers at
different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech
and ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state.
In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when
the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political
strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct,
unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The
concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent
has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist
regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio
Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). Toward the end of XX beginning of XXI century the
emergence of new radical populist regimes occurred not only in Latin America but also in Eastern
Europe. However, the researchers did not rush to analyze the Eastern European regimes,

Comparing Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis...
Growth is inevitable and the most anticipated quest of man. It is a never ending quest to evolve,
fuelled by the constant hope for survival. Once natural growth halts, man s focus shifts to the growth
within. The coming of age, associates itself with this transformation from child to man, the step of
letting go of childish ways and moving on to more mature things. The need for such a dramatic
transformation is questioned by Miguel de Cervantes and Lewis Carroll in their texts, Don Quixote
and Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. While the texts follow two contrasting characters, they are
brought together by the theme of fantasy. Cervantes Don Quixote is an old gentleman of noble lineage

[is] Dorotea in disguise, it does not fit into Quixote s frame of thinking and is therefore rejected, Can
you be in your right mind? This irony is used by Cervantes to introduce the reader to the issue of

the fantastical and idealistic madness of Quixote, and the other is to view it through the realism
adopted by the other characters of the text. Quixote s madness creates a world where everything is
taken at face value, not allowing the idea of deception to exist. When the issue of deception arises, he

Male Gender Roles And Women
In society today, boys and girls are taught by those around them that there are but two ways only to
live a life the manly way and the feminine way and that to stray from one s designated role in the
world is unacceptable. Men in particular suffer from the confinement of gender roles and are exposed

have felt the pungent sting of the male gender role in my own life, having grown up alongside a twin

That was simply who I was. It took time and much self examination to eventually accept that there
was nothing wrong with me. I was not inferior to or less of a man than any other male in the world
merely a victim to a long line of harmful misunderstandings of the male gender. Society has set a
precedent of aggression, barbarity, and dominance for men to follow to be perceived as normal ,
effecting youth negatively and damaging one s self image. Men are influenced strongly everyday by
the world around them to put aside traditionally feminine tendencies and behave like a man beginning,
first and foremost, in the home. The household serves as a boy s initial introduction to the exclusive
sector that is manhood. It is there that they are brought up and reared to be the strapping, virile man
they are destined to become. It is rare to find a boy who is not at least familiar with the phrase Wipe
some dirt on it, teaching them to [employ] the automatic I m fine response to almost any emotional

dismissing any possibility of help or protection. It is understood that boys run around and play in mud

On War Vs Vietnam War
War is not an independent phenomenon, but the continuation of politics by other mean
Writing about war nearly two centuries ago, Clausewitz did not attempt to derive a prescriptive theory
of warfare. He sought to identify universal truths about the phenomenon of war even as he emphasized
its dynamic and unpredictable nature. He understood that even as war s character and conduct
continues to evolve, the nature of war does not. Considered the chief military theorist of the western
world, his theories have withstood the test of time and are still adequate for explaining warfare in the
modern era.
His most famous premise is that war is merely the continuation of policy by other means . Clausewitz
s reference to war as an expression of politics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once identified, all energies are to be directed against it. He uses COG to enable the employment of
force and understanding of the enemy s conduct in war. Destroying the enemy s COG would render
the enemy powerless. Clausewitz believed that the first task in planning a campaign was to identify
the enemy s center of gravity (COG). He warns his readers that the failure to identify the COG
correctly could lead to faulty assumptions leading to wasted time /resources and an increase in risk.
We can relate this directly to what we know as operational art today and balancing ends, ways, and

Taking a Look at JP Morgan Chase
The earliest known predecessor known to JPMorgan Chase is in 1799 when it was chartered in New
York City. In 1784 Alexander Hamilton created the first National Bank. Then in 1799 Hamilton s rival
Aaron Burr a U.S senator and future vice president founded the Bank of Manhattan Co. Over the years
starting in 1991 many big companies started to merge together creating giant corporations. In 1991
Manufacturers Hanover Corp. merged with Chemical Banking Corp. From then until 2000 many other
companies were to merge and in 2000 J.P. Morgan Co. Incorporated merged with The Chase
Manhattan Corp combining four of the largest and oldest money center banking institutions in New
York City.
JPMorgan Chase is one of the leading global financial services with operations in over 50 countries. It
serves millions of consumers and many of the worlds most prominent corporations and institutions.

Building a Computer
With increasing popularity of computer games, and multimedia home PC users often need an
unexpensive computer system upgrade. By building a custom computer one is able to combine
componenets, and operating system to provide maximal gaming performance. Computers are often
called number manipulators, because of their ability to run millions of mathematical operations per
second (White 43). Computers use binary system of numbers, which allows them to operate system of
microscopic switches called transistors found inside of computer chips. Binary system is defined as
counting system that uses two digits one and zero (Gookin 49). A transistor is a basic building block of
microchips; transistors are combined in formations called logic gates ... Show more content on

The hard disk is a combination of electronic and mechanical portions, which makes it the one of the
slowest parts of the computer (White 87). A graphic card is usually plugged into one of the expansion
slots, which are metallic contacts on the motherboard (White 119). One of the most common
expansion slots is PCI – peripheral components interconnect. PCI are most commenly white slots
used to attach a graphic or sound card, also modem or network card (White 120). Latest expansion slot
used for graphic cards only is AGP – accelerated graphic port, which is faster than PCI (White 121).
Both PCI and AGP based adapters use SVGA – super video graphics array as a modern standard,
which added new capabilities, such as higher resolution and color depth to the previous VGA
interface. Super VGA allows as many as 16 million colors also called 32 bit color, or true
color(Stephen 1253). There are three major factors defining the speed of a graphic adapter, overall
performance depends on the chipset speed, performance and capacity of graphic random access
memory and the expansion slot architecture (Stephen 1258). One of the other factors defining speed of
a video adapter is the software driver. Even the finest accelerator board hardware can bog down when
run with careless, loosely written code (Stephen 1259). Graphic cards have their own BIOS software
which is firmware, or permanently recorded in a memory device such as ROM – read only memory,
and usually can not be modified.

Direct to Consumer Advertising
There are only two countries that allow advertising of prescription drugs to consumers; the United
States and New Zealand. Direct to consumer advertising (DTCA) is what they call the prescription
drugs advertisements that are made specifically for the consumer. Pharmaceutical companies survival
depends upon a gullible public buying what they are selling, whether you need it or not. Prescription
drug advertising is in a different category than toothpaste advertising. Because the consumer s health
is at stake, there are different rules and regulations involved. Pharmaceutical companies often do ...

Consumers will be more likely to initiate a conversation with their physician after seeing an
advertisement on television, or in a magazine. In a paper titled An Insider s Perspective: Defense of
the Pharmaceutical Industry s Marketing Practices, author Kanika Johar (2013) writes, In my
experience, the goal of DTCA is to increase market share for the new drug by bringing awareness to a
particular disease that the drug treats (p.10). The first part of that sentence is remarkably candid. As an
industry insider, Johar admits that increasing market share is the goal of DTCA. While proponents cite
education and awareness as reasons to continue DTCA, research consistently shows that consumers
are not educated in any meaningful way about drugs and their side effects in a 2 minute commercial or
a tiny 4 point font, need a degree in biotechnology to understand, print advertisement (Frosch et al,
2010; Arnold Oakley, 2013).
One of the biggest problems with direct to consumer advertising is the dangerous medicalizing of our
citizens. Medicalization: To take a normal human condition and turn it into a medical condition that
needs to be treated. At issue with opponents of DTCA is the belief that the advertisements gloss over
the (sometimes serious) side effects. These ads portray the message of happy and carefree people
whose lives are better because of these drugs. The ubiquitous ads promote these drugs to the exclusion
of any natural remedies or simple lifestyle changes

Fear The Walking Dead Persuasive Essay
This past Sunday, AMC graced us with the premier of Fear the Walking Dead, a spin off of the
amazing, The Walking Dead TV series. While I am not a huge fan of spin offs in general, I must say
that I was impressed.
The following may contain spoilers, so if you haven t had the chance to see the premier, I would
highly recommend doing so before reading further.
So why should you watch Fear the Walking Dead? Because I said you should! And the fact that the
first episode will have you hooked, well, if you are a Walking Dead fan that is.
So where does Fear the Walking Dead fit into The Walking Dead universe? Well that s easy, it takes
place prior to the events of The Walking Dead, and on the west coast. More or less the beginning of
zombie infection.
In TWD, Rick wakes from a coma, to an unrecognizable world. Essentially a zombie apocalypse
where food and supplies are hard to come by. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of the completely depressing feel of TWD world, we are given a much more active, slightly
less depressing feel in FTWD. Why do I say slightly less depressing? Well the fact that the first
episode opens in an abandoned and run down church which is a haven for drug users, might be a good
reason. Or, the fact that our opening character, Nick, a junkie, witnesses the girl he was with, eating
someones face off. I could be wrong. Throughout the episode, we get to learn about Nick s somewhat
dysfunctional family and hints of the zombie apocalypse starting to unfold. There are also hints that
the drug that Nick has been using, is causing people to become zombies. Of course, nobody
understands what is going on yet, not even Nick. Everything starts to be put in perspective when Nick
s drug dealer, Calvin, attempts to kill him, only to get killed himself. After fleeing the location and
then returning with his mother, Madison, and step father, Travis, Nick finds that Calvins body is
missing, at least until they try to

Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement
Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement
Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral
development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical
manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations
he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex
differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by
interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These
issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on

Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that
people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these
participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all
went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at
the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did
do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three
to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the
participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer
strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study
mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in
many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp,
2007).
However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the
research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the
possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982,
1993) recognised that this was an issue with

Robert Adam Research Paper
Biography
Frequently considered one of the most well known architects in Scotland, Robert Adam emerged as a
leader of classical resurgence in England for both interior decoration and architecture. Born in
Kirkcaldy, Fife in 1728, his designs combined light, detailed embellishment and colors, which he were
mainly notable for his use of abundant colors. Robert Adam was an eclectic who relied on his design
innovations as much as his business sense (Sharp, D., 1991). His work was on occasion acknowledged
as neo classical and Adamesque which the proper term should have been style of the Adams brothers (
anam thanvi, 2013). His projects used light, graceful line of design, which have much more liberty
than the stern classical proportions of the Palladians (Ross. D., 2013). He was an originator who

Their firm was massive and during his time, Adam was one of the reigning king s of architecture and

more than just a delicate surface adornment, in fact, it was significantly broader, it was mostly to
eloquent and define a room, to relay the diverse elements within it, to accomplish balance and
symmetry and to provide character. Adam worked in numerous capacities and it echoes in his
creations. In London, the firm often hired a large group of craftsmen, who put together numerous of
Adam s designs. Adam s designs were unique. Compared to other designers and architects, he directly

depends on thoughtful dramatic contracts in the design. A good example of that style is The Kedleston

The Seminole Indian Tribe
The Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida is a renowned group in South Florida area. Besides being the
only Federal recognized tribe that has not signed a peace treaty, the Seminoles are known for things as
Chickee Architecture, Billie Swamp Safari, and the Infamous Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
All these groundbreaking and recognized accomplishments were only cable because of the hard work
and dedication from the different tribes that make up the Seminole Nation. That being said, the
Seminoles success was also due to opening of smoke shops and high risk gaming in the 1970

With money, one can choose their own fate to an extent, and even help shape the path for others
around them. I believe that the Seminole Indian tribe is a perfect example of this. Due to their large
success with gaming, they have become a finically independent group that can now better themselves
because of money. Things such as education, health, and preservation of cultural are now enabled due
to the gain of funds from the casinos, but these positives do come with a price. Thanks to financial
freedom, Seminole artist have pursued expanding their knowledge of skills and crafts. This new want
for cultural expansion can be seen as a positive since people can now focus on past crafts and
practices. Unfortunately, due to gaming revenue, people worked on crafts because they no longer have
to work, while others stopped crafts for the same reason. They no longer need to make money, so they
no longer saw a need in making them. This shows that economic freedom was as much as a curse as it
was a blessing. Freedom allows one to choose their own path. The Seminole tribe was able to find
freedom through gaming revenue, and it has had many positives in their tribe. However, freedom can
also make people forgetful of passion and hard work. Not to say that all Native Americans who have
benefitted from tribal funding from things such a gaming revenues are lazy. I believe that the majority
will make the best choice at the end of the day. Hopefully the money earn through gaming does not
lead to a downfall in such a respected

Essay on Reasons Behind China’s Enlarging Rural-Urban Divide
Urbanization brings with it a disparity between rural and urban living standards. Nonetheless, in China
this gap has started to become quite severe and has become a cause for concern (Naughton 113).
Chinas Gini coefficient is currently at .415, which displays the increasing disparity in the country (
DISTRIBUTION OF FAMILY ). The rural urban divide begun with the different ways the Chinese
government ran the rural and urban areas. The urban areas were fully under control of the central
government and since they were seen as the building blocks of the country they received many
governmental subsidies. Workers in urban areas received pensions, healthcare, had job security,
cheaper consumer goods due to subsidies and often had access to ... Show more content on

This is especially true for the poorer regions that cannot afford to greatly subsidize the education
system. This is a problem for the already poorer rural residents and causes many families to not be
able to afford to pay for more than the mandatory 9 years of schooling. Though some areas have
stopped requiring their students to pay tuition China lacks an adequate amount of schools and parents
still have to bear transportation costs (Hussain). This leads to a repetitive cycle of poverty in which
rural children cannot obtain the adequate education that could lead them to obtain a higher paying job
and leave the poverty cycle.
Another issue that contributes to the rural urban divide is the extremely high cost of health care. In
2006, 39% of the rural population could not afford professional medical treatment ( Healthcare in
China ). Even though the government has introduced various systems to try to overcome this lack of
access to medical care, such as the Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme and has increased expenditure
on health care, the results of this have not been equally spread. Many rural residents are still uninsured
and have large out of pocket health care expenses. In addition, 80 percent of health expenditures are
allocated to urban areas even though 70 percent of the population resides in rural areas ( Healthcare in
China ). This is an example of Chinas

Summary Of Art Spiegelman s Maus
The book Maus, a graphic novel by Vladek Spiegelman s son, Art Spiegelman is written in the form of
a graphic novel. It elaborates on Vladek s adolescent experiences as a young jew during the Holocaust.
On a surface level, the photographs in Maus contributed to my understanding of the story by giving
Vladek s words a visual. The images tell the story in a direct way by expressing the emotions of his
father as the comic strips transition from the past to present. The format of this story certainly takes
some risks. To some audiences, this format could come off as a joke, as though Spiegelman wasn t
taking his father s story seriously. With a graphic novel usually used to depict fictionally, sci fi like
stories, the audience might think that Art is treating his father s experiences as if they were part of a

  • 2. The Chrysler Building Essay Today technology allows us to construct structures that we would never have been able to make in the past. Some of the creations are impressive based on what they accomplish but others are masterpieces in themselves. Man s capability to build such tall buildings, as the skyscrapers we are familiar with covering our cities today, is a major expression of the advancements we have made as a culture. The power necessary to build such tall structures inspired competition between architects to see who could build the tallest one. One skyscraper that has inspired many and served as a model, for high rise buildings that were created after, is the Chrysler Building. The Chrysler Building serves as an identifying mark to anyone that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although these problems were corrected and the idea of building a skyscraper became a feasible task, there were many conditions that had to be taken into account, that did not need consideration when building a structure less than 40 stories tall. Four story buildings are supported by their own walls; however a new method needed to be created for skyscrapers since the previous building method would not provide enough support. Metal skeletal frames made of columns and beams were then developed to provide the support and strength needed for the skyscrapers. As the buildings grew taller, their structural design was made lighter and stiffer. Also, as the buildings grew taller, wind became an important issue. Normally, the force that acts on the skyscraper pushes directly downward towards the ground that would then counter balance that push. However, when an additional force acts on it, such as wind, the forces would act differently on the skyscraper. With a lateral force acting on the building, the steel columns of the frame on the windy side would stretch apart slightly while the columns on the other side would compress. Therefore, the skeletal frame built had to be made so that the structure would be free to move slightly with the wind and, at the same time, remain sturdy. The initial plan for this particular skyscraper built on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Submission to Local Network Submission to Local Network October 1, 2010 Dear Sir/Madam, As the signatory of the UN Global Compact, Cadbury has implemented many initiatives in its CSR strategy and has done a lot to implement the ten principles. In this report, I am writing on behalf of Cadbury to propose the recommendations for the implementation of the following two in the ten principles of the Global Compact. Principle one requires that business should respect human rights including those in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And businesses are asked to do something to undertake more environmental responsibility under principle eight. Nestle, another big company in our industry, has also assessed the societal interests from different ranges of stakeholders when making their decisions and create shared value across each stage of its value chain. Overall, we believe if these recommendations are put into practice by our Network members, they will be able to perform better in human rights and environment issues and win good reputation for their business and this will bring good economic outcomes in the long term. Also, for the Local Network, when more businesses do better in undertaking their responsibility in these issues, the Principles of the Global Compacts will be implemented better. Of course, there will be some challenges and risks when these recommendations are carried out. The possible challenges may include the unclear responsibility between different departments in the company. For example, our HRET should be carried out in the human resource department and departments with procurement functions. So when put into practice, it did not go smoothly. To solve this problem, we propose someone be appointed to act as a go between in different departments. Also, it should be clear in the corporate policy that the cooperation between these departments is needed to address the human rights and environmental problems. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman Question: We have allowed him to arrange the whole social system...Man deprived us of all proper education, and then jeered at us because we had no knowledge. • 7. The Futile Goal of Nicholas Branch in Don DeLillo s Libra... The vast amount of evidence associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, an event that occurred more than fifty years ago, is still being collected and examined by an array of scientists, professional historians, and conspiracy theorists. Periodically, with continuous developments and improvements in technology, new information is being discovered that either relates to an existing theory about the assassination or inspires additional assumptions about the identity and location of another supposed shooter. According to author Don DeLillo, the immense quantity of the information pertaining to the heinous crime committed in Dallas on November 22nd of 1963 will never lead to or reveal a comprehensive and conclusive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He feels as if he must make meaning out of all the material in his possession and so, because he does not know how to accomplish this, he remains perpetually immobile in his attempt to uncover and write the true history of the assassination. Branch s objective to investigate all the facts about the assassination places him in a chaotic situation. It is impossible for him to account for every detail, fact, and occurrence linked to Kennedy s assassination because there is already too much information for him to examine and much that has yet to be discovered. Christopher M. Mott, in his essay Libra and the Subject of History , comments on Branch s need for absolute closure and the chaotic results that arise: The novel implies that the version of the world that informs our government s practices and dominates our episteme intends to account for every detail of existence. It employs a totalizing discourse, a discourse of rational examination and explanation. Libra clearly indicates that this penchant for total explanation leads, in fact, to total chaos. We simply cannot account for every detail, every nuance. (143) Branch s desire to piece together the factual events of the assassination has led to his abandonment of life. He will forever be confined to his, as DeLillo describes, room of theories (57) since he must study everything about the event. However, the CIA is constantly supplying him ... Importance Of Management And Leadership Within Public Health IMPORTANCE OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP WITHIN PUBLIC HEALTH INTRODUCTION This essay explains the meaning of management and leadership, emphasizing on the various theories, models and styles of these concepts. Management and leadership skills are also outlined. These are then related to public health and analyzed to suggest what is most suitable and can be applied in the public health setting. MANAGENENT AND LEADERSHIP The concepts of leadership and management are often viewed in different ways with different theories and schools of thought regarding the meaning of these terms (Gold, Thorpe and Mumford, 2010). Management and leadership can be defined individually and encompass different roles and attributes, however, both management and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever the outcome at the end of the day, it is the manager who is responsible. This means that rather than forces or facts, it is people that manage; and the perception, commitment and accountability of managers are the determining factors of success of failure when it comes to management. Therefore, it can be deduced that managers act or execute plans but it is management that determines if goals are going to be achieved or not by bringing people and tasks together (Drucker, 2012). Management is what holds an institution together and makes it work (Drucker, 2012). Likewise, leadership is multi faceted and can apply to many different situations (Stanfield, 2009). E sa (2012) described leadership as getting people to perform tasks in order to achieve certain aims. Stanfield argues that leadership is largely based on experience and does not necessarily depend on the number of followers and that to be able to lead effectively; one must also be able to follow. This is supported by Adeniyi (2010) who adds that there are many forms of leadership and leaders possess different traits and temperaments. Stanfield states that factors such as moral standards and integrity play a role in effective leadership. Leaders are often said to charismatic and possessing the skill that enables them to draw others to their visions or ideas. Although seen as a good quality, he points out that charisma can be either constructive or destructive, depending on how it is channeled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early LGBT Rights Movements There was also moral and cultural disapproval of early LGBT rights movements, such as nazi and neo nazi groups, that made it difficult for growth within the gay rights movement to arise. As soon as the Nazis gained control in Europe, they set the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a group devoted to help gays become free, on fire ( Gay ). Because of the Nazis great dislike for homosexuals, they began to treat all homosexuals horribly by sending them to concentration camps which lead to a complete halt of progress for the gay rights movement ( Gay ). Starting in the mid 1900s, many homosexuals were forced to go into jail or lose their jobs or even custody over their own children simply for being a homosexuals since gays were considered being sick, or a criminal ( Gay ). A few people considered homosexuality to be a sickness that could be treated with a special type of therapy. This therapy was called reparative therapy, a therapy designed to alter homosexual individuals to become heterosexuals. The therapy was based off the concept that homosexuality is a behavioral issue or illness that needs to be cured (Morris). In the 1960s, many gays faced the possibility of psychiatric lockup where they would be put through horrible circumstances to cure the illness that they were facing ( Gay ). Although for a majority of the 1900s homosexuality was seen as an illness that needed to be cured, it was also seen as a mental issue that caused those diagnosed to perform preposterous activities. For example, not only was the idea that homosexuals were prostitutes and child molesters introduced, but also even the idea that homosexuals were murdered because of their mental illness (Newman). After she identified key words, she felt that this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities. She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed. I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and actions. She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn t use the dictionary s literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version of the poem with the words of the ... Two young children, Jean Louise Scout and Jem Finch believe the neighborhood gossip, and stay far away from Boo Radley, but after a turn of events they begin to see the real Boo Radley and realize that he is not the monster others portray him as. Boo s heartfelt presents for Jem and Scout conveys his compassion for the children and the contrast between his real deportment and the false persona Maycomb makes him out to be. The inhumanity of Maycomb s rumors is evident as they pretend a gentle person is evil. • 13. Adverse Possession Is A Method Adverse possession is a method by which a trespasser gains legal title to a property by occupying it for some time period. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse possession. However, ownership of property for public use for instance school property or a highway cannot be lost through adverse possession. The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a squatter could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the law has been seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the squatter had proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a landlord s actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other rights of the landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a property for 20 years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to 12 years of exclusive dispossession. The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in 1275 which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing claims that were dated. Land records in early England were poor and illiteracy was high, therefore, possession was the best evidence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Populism In Latin America Introduction. In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any scholar has a vision of what characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this respect, as many researchers at different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech and ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state. In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct, unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). The need for such a dramatic transformation is questioned by Miguel de Cervantes and Lewis Carroll in their texts, Don Quixote and Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. As these participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). • 33. Essay on Reasons Behind China’s Enlarging Rural-Urban Divide Urbanization brings with it a disparity between rural and urban living standards. Nonetheless, in China this gap has started to become quite severe and has become a cause for concern (Naughton 113). Chinas Gini coefficient is currently at .415, which displays the increasing disparity in the country ( DISTRIBUTION OF FAMILY ). The rural urban divide begun with the different ways the Chinese government ran the rural and urban areas. The urban areas were fully under control of the central government and since they were seen as the building blocks of the country they received many governmental subsidies. Workers in urban areas received pensions, healthcare, had job security, cheaper consumer goods due to subsidies and often had access to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially true for the poorer regions that cannot afford to greatly subsidize the education system. This is a problem for the already poorer rural residents and causes many families to not be able to afford to pay for more than the mandatory 9 years of schooling. Though some areas have stopped requiring their students to pay tuition China lacks an adequate amount of schools and parents still have to bear transportation costs (Hussain). This leads to a repetitive cycle of poverty in which rural children cannot obtain the adequate education that could lead them to obtain a higher paying job and leave the poverty cycle. Another issue that contributes to the rural urban divide is the extremely high cost of health care. In 2006, 39% of the rural population could not afford professional medical treatment ( Healthcare in China ). Even though the government has introduced various systems to try to overcome this lack of access to medical care, such as the Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme and has increased expenditure on health care, the results of this have not been equally spread. Many rural residents are still uninsured and have large out of pocket health care expenses. In addition, 80 percent of health expenditures are allocated to urban areas even though 70 percent of the population resides in rural areas ( Healthcare in China ). This is an example of Chinas ... • 34. Summary Of Art Spiegelman s Maus The book Maus, a graphic novel by Vladek Spiegelman s son, Art Spiegelman is written in the form of a graphic novel. It elaborates on Vladek s adolescent experiences as a young jew during the Holocaust. On a surface level, the photographs in Maus contributed to my understanding of the story by giving Vladek s words a visual. The images tell the story in a direct way by expressing the emotions of his father as the comic strips transition from the past to present. The format of this story certainly takes some risks. To some audiences, this format could come off as a joke, as though Spiegelman wasn t taking his father s story seriously. With a graphic novel usually used to depict fictionally, sci fi like stories, the audience might think that Art is treating his father s experiences as if they were part of a fictional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story could possibly be negatively associated with a mocking tone. To some audiences, the way that Spiegelman depicted the victims as mice and the Germans as cats, could come off as though Spiegelman was mocking the victims with this prey and predator metaphor. The interviewer challenges Spiegelman by asking the questions about the aspects of his book that make it the most controversial. For example, Bolhafner says Harvey Pekar has commented that he feels you shouldn t have used mice for any of it. He thinks it would have had more impact if you had used people, and is critical of your using pigs for the Poles (Spiegelman, Art. Art for Art s Sake: Spiegelman Speaks on RAWS s Past, Present, and Future. Interview by J. Stephen Bolhafner. The Comics Journal #145 Oct. 1991). Here, Bolhafner brings up the fact that some audiences don t agree with Arts way of portraying the people in his book and how it could lessen the impact of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
