Explain How To Keep The Road Out Of Pavers
Typically you see roads that are made out of asphalt or dirt. Mainly because these roads are more
reliable to use in areas of heavy traffic. They are less likely to have bumps or potholes in them. They
are also the least expensive to make. But in some subdivisions they will not be asphalt the road will be
made out of pavers. If you look closely you will even see rocks in between each individual paver.
These roads are more expensive and time consuming to put in. But they can handle weather easier
such as heavy amounts of rain if they are installed properly. You can t just use any paver though. To
make sure you get the right paver you want to look at its thickness. Different sizes will be able to hold
different things. Like Most planks and slabs are not suitable for vehicular applications (Designing the
Pavement System). But you also do not want to overkill it and use pavers that are too thick. This
would make your costs go up by a lot. It will also take more time to install and get the pavers
delivered to you. It will decrease the amount that will be able to fit on a pallet, thus decreasing the
amount you can fit on a Semi truck. To figure out the thickness of paver required for what you are
trying to make you would want to find out the Aspect ratio. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Water will melt into any pre existing cracks and freeze. Then expand and make them even bigger. This
can potentially throw the lines off making your driveway not square to the concrete around it and not
making the pattern look right. Or it can potentially split the paver in half , causing you to have to fully
replace it. They are also not the best when it comes to trying to clear off snow. A Lot of times if you
are using a snow shovel it will get stuck in the cracks between the pavers. Then it will either chip them
or break your shovel. Neither are good outcomes of this

Behavior Of Fish In An Egyptian Tea Garden
Robin Suazo
Mrs. Inouye
IB English HL 2, Period 5
01/22/18
Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea Garden Keith Douglas Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea
Garden was written in 1968 and published in the Poetry of the Forties. The setting of the poem takes
place in an egyptian tea garden as presumably stated in the title. In the poem, Keith Douglas
strategically emphasizes a woman s ability to entice and seduce men with her beauty, as well as the
same woman being objectified through the usage of structure, language and style. To begin, the first
stanza introduces the woman and further establishes the setting. A simile is used to introduce a woman
who is being admired by other men, As a white stone draws down the fish/ she on the seafloor of the
afternoon/ draws down men s glances and their cruel wish/ for love (1). The woman is representing the
white stone which draws the attention of the fish, who represent men. However, the white stone that
represents the woman is ironic because the color white usually implies innocence and purity, which is
the opposite of the woman represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also implies how women are objectified by men. The poem has 7 stanzas with 4 lines each, showing
a sense of balancement within the poem and the speaker. However, even though the poem looks like it
follows a rhyme scheme, it does not. The first four stanzas have a rhyme scheme differing from one
another and the last three stanzas have no rhyme scheme at all. This could connect to the idea of
relationships and the idea of appearance vs. reality. In other words, a relationship might not be what it
looks like, and could question the idea of love in general. The use of structure, language and style was
effectively used throughout the poem to emphasize the objectification of women and their ability to
seduce men with their

The Intersection Of Race And Sex
Intersectionality is defined by social categories, such as race and gender that have interconnected to
apply to individuals and groups, causing an overlap, which has consequently created a system of
discrimination and disadvantages (English Oxford Living Dictionary, 2016).
Kimberle Crenshaw coined the term in her article Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex: A
Black Feminist Critique of Antidiscrimination Doctrine, Feminist Theory and Anti racist Politics
(1889) whereby her main focus is on the intersection of race and sex. Crenshaw refers to
intersectionality as a crossroad to describe how multiple oppressions are experienced. In her article
she examines intersectionality through how the court interpret black women s stories. She uses the
case DeGrafffenreid V General Motors, whereby five black women (the Plaintiffs) accused the
employers of discriminating against black women, as they lost their jobs after 1970 due to a seniority
based layoff during recession. Nevertheless, the judge rejected the plaintiffs claim, as the court states
that they would of helped if it was an action for race or sex, but not a combination of both (Crenshaw,
1989, p.141). The example Crenshaw gives, identifies how multiple oppressions are experienced
within intersectionality. In October 2016 Crenshaw gave an empowering speech on how the media
only covers black male discrimination by the state, yet there are no stories about how black women
are discriminated by the state,

Queen Victoria Essay
Queen Victoria Queen Victoria was born in 1819 and died in 1901. She was queen of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1837 1901) and empress of India (1876 1901). Queen Victoria
was born Alexandrina Victoria on May 24, 1819, in Kensington Palace, London. Victoria s mother
was Victoria Mary Louisa, daughter of the duke of Saxe Coburg Saalfeld. Her father was Edward
Augustus, duke of Kent and Strathern, the fourth son of George III and youngest brother of George IV
and William IV; they were kings of Great Britain. Because William IV had no legal children, his niece
Victoria became inheritor apparent to the British crown upon his accession in 1830. On June 20, 1837,
with the expiration of William IV, Victoria became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her post was that the sovereign should at least be consulted on different policy. Palmerston,
independent and self assertive, disregarded the request. Their conflict reached a crucial period in 1851,
when the prime minister, Lord John Russell, who was also unhappy with Palmerston s elective
methods, removed him from the foreign office. Their altercations with Palmerston, one of the most
liked political leaders in the country, caused Victoria and Albert to lose some of the regard of their
subjects. Their popularity dwindled even more in 1854, when they tried to avert the Crimean War.
After the war had started, however, they gave it their sincere support. In 1856, shortly before the end
of the war, the queen established the Victoria Cross, the highest British award for wartime courage. In
1857, Victoria had the title of Prince Associate granted on Albert. Four years later he died, and she
remained in implied grieving for much of the rest of her life. She avoided common appearances,
letting the prince of Wales accomplish most of the royal ritualistic duties. In 1861, several prime
ministers served during the latter part of Victoria s reign, but only the Conservative Party leader
Benjamin Disraeli, who held office in 1868 and from 1874 to 1880, gained her confidence. He
ingratiated himself with the queen by his skillful personal advance and his gift for compliments. He

John Searle s Chinese Room Argument
John Searle s Chinese Room Argument John Searle is an American Philosopher, born July 31, 1932.
He is known for a widely spread argument in Philosophy called the Chinese Room Argument . He
published his work onto paper in 1980. The argument follows that: Searle imagines himself alone in a
room following a computer program for responding to Chinese characters slipped under the door.
Searle understands nothing of Chinese, and yet, by following the program for manipulating symbols
and numerals just as a computer does, he produces appropriate strings of Chinese characters that fool
those outside into thinking there is a Chinese speaker in the room. (Cole, David) Searle (1984)
organizes a three premise argument: Programs are purely formal (syntactic). Human minds have
mental contents (semantics). Syntax by itself is neither constitutive of, nor sufficient for, semantic
content. (Cole, David) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main conclusion is that a computer may be able to produce a language but is not able to
comprehend the real understanding of that language. There have been many skeptics with different
points of view about this theory, as well as supporting the argument. Searle states, The point of the
argument is this: if the man in the room does not understand Chinese on the basis of implementing the
appropriate program for understanding Chinese then neither does any other digital computer solely on
that basis because no computer, qua computer, has anything the man does not have. (Cole,

The Human Body In Art
The human body is one of the most popular subjects of art throughout time, and the depictions of the
body are constantly changing and evolving throughout the ages. With different ideals and thoughts
that are popular in society, there are a number of different portrayals of the human body, and three of
them are Michelangelo s David, Millais Ophelia and Cindy Sherman s Untitled Film Still #35.
Michelangelo s David is a masterpiece and one of the most recognizable statues in the entire world
of art. Standing 13 feet tall, the double life sized David is depicted patiently waiting for battle,
prepped with slingshot in one hand and stone in the other. The human body is glorified in this piece,
with every detail being showered in beauty and aesthetics that were viewed as beautiful at the time.
The detail is astounding, his veins are visible in his arms and hands as he clutches the stones with one
hand and the slingshot in the other, his hands and his head appear to be disproportionally large for his
body, because they were deemed more visually important for viewers who would see the statue high
up on the exterior of the cathedral. Also, his left leg, which straddles the rocky base upon which he
stands, appears a big too long for his body, it accentuates the line of this leg as it forms an essential
component in David s contrapposto stance. The classical nude further glorifies the body, as it was
thought as something not to be ashamed of and one of the most beautiful subjects

Stewart s Argument Analysis
The first aspect of choice showcased by Stewart is the delegation of authority. As per her statement,
whenever she is close with a member of the management team, she shares problems that she faces as a
leader and works with the junior manager to arrive at a decision. This also showcases her willingness
and ability to share information as well as an attribute of trust towards her members of staff.
Competence
The first aspect of confidence shown by Stewart is knowledge. Albeit a senior member of staff,
Stewart shows that she has detailed knowledge about minute aspects if the restaurant chain from top
management to how kitchens operate. Stewart also showcases knowledge on how to conduct positive
feedback. She not only compliments her workers but also ensures that the compliment is overheard
and utilized as a learning moment by the other workers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biological Approach To Psychology Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION
A lot has been said about behavioural and biological approaches in psychology i.e. the assumptions of
both approaches and how they influence disorders such as depression.
The behavioural theory states that personality is as a result of the interaction between an individual
and the environment (i.e. the society and the individual). It is focus on observable and measurable
behaviour rather than mental or emotional behaviours and different theories focus on one type of
behaviour over the other. On the contrary, the biological approach seeks to explain behaviour as a
result of interactions within the body. It is based on assumptions such as how the brain psychology can
influence behaviour and also how behaviour can be inherited ... Show more content on

These are neurotransmitter dysfunction and inherited genes.
In neurotransmitter dysfunction, the biological approach to depression explains low levels of the
neurotransmitter serotonin. This has been linked with many forms of dysfunctional behaviour such as
anxiety, excessive anger, poor social functioning and other mood disorders.
Serotonin is understood to have a variety of roles and affects brain functioning; even though it is not
known if depression is caused by serotonin levels, or whether depression causes low serotonin, or if
there is another factor causing them both.
In regards to genes, depression could be explained in terms of genetic predispositions. Research in the
area of twin and adoption studies has shown that there is a genetic link to depression. As a result it is
being advocated some individuals may have genes that predispose them to depression and other mood
disorders.
7.0 CONCLUSIONS
Behaviorism assumes that we are born as a blank slate and so equal at birth. The theorists believe that
it is the environmental factors that shape our behaviour rather than genetic or biological differences.
Behaviorism very much represents the nurture aspect of the nature nurture

Rogers Park Adjustment Essay
All my life, I have lived in a safe place in Rogers Park. I know way too many places in Rogers Park
that are definitely not safe for anyone, especially the risky places that many younger children live by.
Many times I have passed by a dangerous area of Rogers Park and have wondered how the innocent
people deal with living there. I want to change this. If I had the power to adjust three things in Rogers
Park, I would choose the most important things that would come to my mind.
One thing I would choose to make better in Rogers Park would be to make it a sanctuary for
immigrants. I want to start with Rogers Park, because I know that not every place will ever be a
sanctuary, also, I think that would be the best adjustment in this community. I ... Show more content

I decided this would be a good adjustment for our area because lately there have been too many police
brutality cases. Honestly, this scares me very much, because many innocent people have been hurt, or
like many cases, died. I would want this because then we would be able to trust these people who are
supposed to be protecting us, not hurting and damaging us. Many stories of police brutality are mainly
focused on racism. Racist policemen are the last thing that we want.
The last adjustment I would want to make for Rogers Park would be to give schools more funds. I
think that this is important because many schools do not have enough funds to create important, fun
programs. They might be able to help pay for some students whose families won t be able to pay for
field trips or for team uniforms. This can help make upgrades to the school building. For example,
some schools might have to make adjustments for the driveway or classroom. Many schools might
need more funds to hire more teachers for students who might needs special observation and a
different teaching method.

The Causes Of The Persian And Peloponnesian Wars
From 3000 BCE to 1500 CE their has been many events and people who have had an major impact on
Western European civilization. The event I think had the most important affect is The Persian and
Peloponnesian wars. The Persian war begun because the lonians city states owed money to Persia and
the lonians city states were conquered by Cyrus II of Persia. The reasons for the Peloponnesian war
are the democratic reforms of Cleisthenes but Sparta always denied this and Athenian control of the
Delian League. Both of these wars affected Greek history.
These wars occurred during and after Pericles and lasted until the end of Alexander the Great. It ended
with the defeat of Athens. The Persian wars were fought because Darius I was out to attack the land of
the Greeks. Their were two Persian wars that occurred. The first was the Battle of Marathon, under
control of Darius I was a battle of Persia vs Athens. During the first war the Athenians used phalanx
formation which meant they had long spears to defeat the Persians. The second war was when Persia
was under control of Xerxes I. The Persians invaded them so badly that Athens was to weak to fight
back on their own. They had to request help from other city states. Athens asked Sparta to be their
allies in war and Sparta agreed to help defeat the Persians. The Battle of Thermopylae was the next
when it was the Persians against the Spartans. They fought the battle in the mountain of Thermopylae.

The Importance And Cons Of The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment makes it feasible for a man in the United States to be furnished with
weapons. The Second Amendment permit the general population the privilege to keep and remain
battle ready without being encroached. When somebody is remain battle ready this is giving that a
man can physically convey a weapon with them. Typically somebody may keep a weapon in their
home or convey it on them. In the story, In the Combat Zone, by Leslie Marmon Silko, implied that
ladies should utilize shield themselves with a weapon from the burden of brutality from another
person. This may bring about everybody needing to be outfitted in light of the fact that they feel the
sense to be protected around others. Morally, this would be hazardous in light of the fact that not every
person should be outfitted with weapons and are not sufficiently mindful to oversee one.
Normally a man would convey a weapon if it s required. When somebody is debilitated in any shape
or frame they may require a weapon to shield themselves from any damage coming their direction. For
instance, in the story it says, Attacks by strangers occur with enough frequency that battered women
and children often cite their fears of such attacks as reasons for remaining in abusive domestic
situations. This demonstrates an individual can in any case feel like they are in ready to not out voice
themselves to have the capacity to stop the brutality and feel ensured. It can help the hurt individual

Summary Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
The 1960s were a time of change for many Americans, whether it be dealing with the women s
liberation movement, civil rights, or the anti war movement. During this period, many issues that had
laid beneath the surface were brought out, it was a time for change. The second wave of feminism was
established in the sixties, beginning when many women addressed the topics that angered them in the
world, specifically pertaining to their own rights. The sixties brought up many feelings, feelings that
had been buried or held back for some time, Betty Friedan has been one of those many people to
address her feelings and put it out in the world. Friedan wrote a book named The Feminine Mystique,
which has become an international bestseller and has sold over one million copies since its release in
1963(citation, from opening of book). Her book focused on the societal expectations that kept women
in the home for many years. Friedan captured the anger and frustration many women felt, and offered
ways for women to recapture their lives back. Betty Friedan s book, The Feminine Mystique, launched
a conversation about women s roles in society, which started the second wave of feminism where
society began to see women as self reliant, and capable to do the tasks men had been doing as long as
time.
Friedan s article The Problem that Has No Name grabbed the attention of any women who would
listen, she called attention to the standards that were supposed to make women feel content and

Interpersonal Communication Is Fundamental For The Growth...
Many studies show that interpersonal communication is fundamental for the growth of an
organization. Its success can be determined by the method in which employees form relationships,
interact, and share communication. Therefore, many organizations are refocusing their employee
structure models by moving away from the traditional idea of leadership and introducing team based
work groups. Members of these work groups are often selected based upon their experience, expertise,
and ability to contribute and impact the performance of a given task. However, to ensure that the work
groups function as intended, it is important to identify and define the member roles.
Performance improvement is at the top of the priority list for every organization and is defined
differently based on the industry. In healthcare, improving the performance of our quality is one of the
most challenging tasks we face. Quality is not measured by one individual s ability to improve
outcomes; it requires additional effort from multiple sources to be effective. As a result, our
organization created an ongoing committee whose function is to carry out these improvement effort.
For the last seven years, this formal committee has meet monthly to review performance data, identify
care gaps, implement improvement projects and monitor their effectiveness. This primary work team

Essay on Parkinson’s Disease and Action of Drugs on Movement
Parkinson s Disease and Action of Drugs on Movement
Introduction:
Parkinson s disease is a neurological disorder that seriously impairs motor function, with people
afflicted with this condition exhibiting akinesia, muscle rigidity and having a tremor at rest. It is
accepted that the loss of motor function is brought upon by the progressive degeneration of
nigrostriatal dopamine neurons, which leads to a corresponding loss of dopamine in the
caudate/putamen part of the basal ganglia, which is accepted as the main receiving area in motor
circuits. Information coming to it from the cortex and thalamus is processed and channeled to the

Aside from functioning as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also the precursor to noradrenaline in all
central and peripheral noradrenergic neurons. Dopamine is made from the precursor Tyrosine which is
converted to DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, and DOPA is then converted to dopamine by
the enzyme dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme has a much higher activity in comparison to tyrosine
hydroxylase so under normal conditions there is little or no endogenous DOPA found in most cells.
The first line of treatment for a patient is to replenish their dopamine stores, which have diminished
due to loss of dopaminergic neurones. As dopamine cannot cross the blood brain barrier it is of no use
to simply administer dopamine, instead its precursor L DOPA is given. This is able to cross the blood
brain barrier upon which it is then converted to dopamine by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase.
However L DOPA can also be converted to dopamine in the periphery, which can cause unwanted
effects and so to prevent this a decarboxylase inhibitor is given. Not only does this reduce adverse
effects but also lowers the effective dose.
Dopamine is rapidly taken up into storage vesicles by an energy dependent transporter mediated
process, achieving high local concentrations within the storage vesicles by complexing with

your uncle Claudius said you had change of heart , which is indicative of the fact that before your
father died you were not as moody and depressed. Grief essentially means that you feel as if darkness
and gloominess, a deep sorrow especially caused by death. Some of the symptoms of the grief include
mood swings, sad and depressive thoughts and social isolation. All of which you illustrate throughout
your story. Your grief, however, is compounded and building up because very it as bad. Your uncle

The Future Of Electric Cars Essay
Electric cars are becoming very popular in today s world and are becoming more main stream. One
reason for this is the need for automobiles that have a lower or a zero carbon footprint. For the
majority of the history of the automobile, the propulsion system was a gas or a diesel engine that
would run off of fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is very hazardous to our world and also
creates much toxic pollution. However, electric cars run off of electricity, which is a very clean and
pollution free resource, depending on how the electricity was produced of course. In this paper we are
going to examine the history of electric cars, look into modern electric car technology, and peer into
the future of electric car technology to see if EVs might be the answer to dramatically reducing our
global pollution. In the 1800s the development of the battery and the electric motor led to the first
electric vehicles on the road. It is hard to pinpoint the invention of the electric car to just one inventor
or country so several inventors have been given credit for the invention of the electric car. A
Hungarian named Anyos Jedlik invented a small model car powered by an electric motor in 1828. And
roughly between the years of 1832 and 1839, Robert Anderson of Scotland invented a crude electric
carriage. Also in 1835 Professor Stratingh of Groningen, Holland built another small electric car with
his assistant Christopher Becker. There was another inventor named Thomas

Bureaucracy Has Been Twisted Over The United States...
Like many words in the English language, bureaucracy has been twisted over the years to mean
something different; much like how awful went from meaning full of awe to very bad or unpleasant .
In And the Band Played On, we see organizational practices that obstruct progress referred to as
bureaucratic , when the official definition refers to a system of governance where state officials make
important decisions instead of representatives. A complete switch in how we see our administration
and governmental organizations occurs because people do not trust their leaders. This fear of the
unknown is the central theme of the movie and relates back to the United States governance: of the
people, by the people, for the people. When the public deems that they are not making the important
decisions, then bureaucracy has turned on its head and the ironic use becomes the true pronouncement.
Irony is rampant in the movie, especially in use by the gay movement to cover the underlying horror
of the disease. An unknown disease that is not like anything anyone has seen before, but that multiple
providers are reporting. When providers report it to higher officials, or escalate the issues, there are
multiple roadblocks to their forward movement, but these roadblocks all stem from fear. For example,
the French doctor who fights public fears and opinions, saying: That hospital where those people go .
The fear of the disease spreads, along with the disease, everywhere.

Although Villa fought and got Mexico a better government, people were against his efforts to be

Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy
Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know
that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron
from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its
shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an
atom loses or gains an electron.
The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy
is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases
which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the
noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be
thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy
gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows
that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction.
The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on

Electron affinity, on the other hand, describes the energy that is released when an electron binds to an
atom. This tells us that since energy is released, the electron affinities will be negative. Another
example of the differences between electron affinity and ionization energy is that ionization energy is
related with making cations from neutral atoms due to the fact that it measures the amount of energy
needed to remove an electron. In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the
fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being
added. These are two big example of how electron affinity and ionization energy are

The Architectures Of Data Center Networks

Hillbilly Elegy Memoir
Memoir Essay Memoirs, and writing in general, reveal a truth about the author. Oftentimes, said truth
is revealed intentionally. Universal truths such as struggle, endurance, and agony help authors
influence their audiences. These truths cause the readers to become cognizant of and appreciate the
authors. It is a writer s duty to write from the heart to write about the good and bad sides of a story.
Annie Dillard s An American Childhood fails to use universal truths and instead presents a very
superficial presentation of its author s life. J. D. Vance s Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and
Culture in Crisis display the unconventional upbringing of Vance in order to give the audience a better

Her mother often lectured against conformity, but Dillard fails to analyze or fully understand them:
Torpid conformity was a kind of sin; it was stupidity itself, the mighty stream against which Mother
would never cease to struggle (Dillard 116). Dillard simply states her mother s opinion, without any
personal input. With only shallow writing, the audience is unable to connect with the author and her
meaning. Some may argue that her use of logic allows the audience to comprehend her values;
however, the audience s comprehension from logic is extremely shallow compared to an
understanding based on feeling. While the reader may understand why one may have certain values,
he or she will not fully grasp how those values affect one s actions or why those values have such an
impact on one s life. Mamaw showed her values and influenced Vance through non verbal honesty.
Her sacrifice spoke for her, unlike Dillard s description of her mother. One author shows how effective
people in his life were by presenting honest examples that do not necessarily portray him in a positive
light while the author presents simple, superficial examples and fails to connect with her audience.
Honesty in Hillbilly Elegy helps the author present his message. Vance portrays his message of the

Death From Different Views Of Poetry
Death from Different Views in Poetry
Rikkie Oree Johnson Way
ENG125: Introduction to Literature
Instructor: Lisa Walsh
October 26, 2014
The act of dying has been a fact of life since we have become into existence. Death by human nature
is something most individuals do not look for with anticipation, others fear, and some even try to
prolonged the life and ignore the unavoidable looming death that awaits us all. Death is not a
controllable factor for anyone it comes as it will and it takes in the end all of us. The difference in how
Thomas s poem on death Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night and Because I could not stop for
Death, by Emily Dickenson are striking, and merit further examination. Both works are about death
and the experience of dying however, but the feel and vigor within the works are strikingly different,
by looking at the literary devices , usage of metaphor, symbolism and the overall style within each
work as well as the themes within each work the differences will be clear. What drew me to this topic
is the fact that I have experienced my share of death in my lifetime, at a young age I lost my father
then in a few months time I was to lose my best friend, then another friend and lastly my paternal
grandmother, all within three months time they died in separate and sometimes sudden and
unexpected ways. I was beyond comfort by the time I lost my second friend to unexpected

The Nonexistent Knight Literary Analysis
The truth can be stated in many different ways, yet each one can be true or false, it s just based on
perspective. Just as artist view art with different perspectives, its reasonable to view the truth in the
same way, therefore everything we see is a perspective not the truth. Italo Calvino uses the art of
writing and fiction to enlighten us with the truth, that is not really a truth but rather what you interpret
from your perspective, and suggests that things are not always what they appear to be in The
Nonexistent Knight.
The tension created by the irony in this tale is the result of the intimate relationship between the
annoying Sister Theodora and the reader, along with her closing confession that she and Bradamente
are one and the same. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The paladins often ridicule Agilulf for being the nonexistent knight and Calvino demonstrates that
with verbal irony, Oh, not him again! If he doesn t stick his nose everywhere that nose he hasn t got!
Where d you think he could get the itch if he hasn t got a place to itch? That s a nonexistent knight,
that is... (17). Calvino goes on with more situational irony, The armor was empty, not empty like
before, but empty of that of something going by the name of Sir Agilulf which was now dissolved like
a drop in the sea. (132) Agilulf was nonexistent before, but now he is completely gone and does not
exist at all; he has just disappeared. The armor was always empty but now it is missing the presence of
Agilulf, as he didn t even have a body due to not existing. Calvino continues this situational irony,
When I came to shut myself in here I was desperate with love for Agilulf, now I burn for the young
and passionate Raimbaut. (140) Bradamente became a nun to get over Agilulf but since she can t be
with him she is going to be with Raimbaut. This depicts to be a slightly varied happily ever after than
usual, as Raimbaut has loved her from the beginning but only now is Bradamente interested but they
do end up together. Calvino creates more situational and dramatic irony by revealing, Sister Theodora
who tells this tale and the amazon are one and the same. (140) She s been lying from the start

The Ideas Of Kierkegaard And Pascal
There are some questions in the religious domain that reason cannot answer because there are
situations in every religion that cannot logically be explained. Religions are not rational; therefore,
reason alone is not adequate enough to validate religious truths. In this paper, I will demonstrate how
reason and faith aren t separate entities and how both are needed in order to explain all religious truths
by examining the ideas of Kierkegaard and Pascal. I will also give a detailed explanation of fideism,
show examples of irresponsible fideism and responsible fideism and then argue in favor of responsible
fideism; faith fills in the gaps that are left void by reason.
A truly authentic faith is not one that is established upon the root of reason and scientific facts, but
rather transcends those human accomplishments and challenges to understand God and the world as
we know it, through an existentialist view. Belief should be purely a matter of the will. To have
ultimate and unwavering faith in God, and Christian belief, is impossible to comprehend and that is
exactly how the great theological philosopher Soren Kierkegaard saw the Christian faith. He stated
that Christianity is unfeasible and is ridiculous in its claims of God becoming man. Blaise Pascal was
another philosopher who had a somewhat different view of God, and faith. He explained that reason
and faith were not enough to believe in God. According to Pascal, it was somewhat easier to have the
choice to believe.

Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay
Section 2. Investigation
Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and
alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser
as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal,
Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite
the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using
Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime
Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862
1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a
Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many
of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority.
Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime
Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When
Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the
Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign,
and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power

understanding of their legal rights. Practitioners have to make sure that relevant legislation is put into
practice. The children Act 1989, for example, states the local authorities must act in the best interests
of all children, and that each child has a fundamental to housing, health care and education. Ethical

care settings there are times when care workers are faced with a conflict of interests. Very often ethical

Reality Of Cinem A Subjective Perspective

Intro to Film

Reality in Cinema: A Subjective Perspective
Ever since the inception of cinema, questions about film s ability to capture or distort true reality have
plagued the medium. It is a question which satisfies most academic types: it involves existential
questioning of reality , film theory (which, in itself, just sounds intelligent), and esoteric mostly
esoteric film knowledge and jargon. Though it s a question that has been long dominated by
pretension and esotericism, it s a very valid one that is important to investigate. Reality distortion
through film is particularly salient because it affects almost all who watch movies, which is a lot of
people. During my research, I ve come to a conclusion: Even though an objective reality in cinema
doesn t exist, there are types of representations of reality that can have seriously damaging
implications. These are representations of the world which are intended to be impetuses for the harm
of others. Films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Battleship Potemkin showcase this potential to
dictate and distort reality.
First, in order to decide whether reality distortion through film has any immediate implications, we
must establish that it is impossible to capture an objective reality through film. Though this is not an
essay that is exactly concerned with philosophical posturing, a bit of existentialist thought is required
when asking the question of whether or

Major Factors Determining Organizational Performance And...
Organizational commitment is one of the constructs that has retained its importance throughout
decades and, despite the extensive research done in the field, still draws a high level of attention due
to its association with such preferred work attitudes as increased job satisfaction, higher performance,
lower absenteeism and turnover intentions (Yousef, 2000). It has been generally recognized that
organizational commitment is one of the major factors determining organizational performance and
effectiveness (Lok Crawford, 1999, 2004). In addition, as observed by Allen and Meyer (1990), a
common link discussed in all conceptualizations of commitment is the one between organizational
commitment and turnover, indicating that employees who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dealing with avoidant employees, who are affecting the productivity and the entire working condition
of the organization is to be given priority. The intervening method employed, whether it is inquisition,
arbitration or mediation, should be the one that best suits the organizations objectives and to resolve
the tension created by the avoidant employees. Unbiased third parties are more effective because they
are used for the management techniques that have the most potential to resolve conflicts. Bias is
inversely related to the range of issues addressed at a settlement effort. Mediation is the strategy that s
the most empowering for the parties in conflict. The role of third party in conflict management is
directed towards the actors in conflict to realize their own interests when various problems threaten or
disrupt their own bargaining relationship (Young 1967). Third parties are useful in the process of
conflict resolution, especially in work aversion employees where a thorough study about the
background of both employees and organization is needed. The third party can make positive and
direct contributions by focusing the parties on a termination agreement, providing agenda or /and
manipulating the timing of negotiation process.
In 1967, Pondy formulated a process model of conflict which is very helpful in understanding how
conflict starts and what stages it

A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements Essays
A Look into Calvin Klein s Advertisements
As a seductive young man looks into a camera a raspy voice, off camera, whispers, You got a real nice
look. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip that shirt off? That s a real nice body.
You work out? I can tell. No, it s not straight out of a steamy romance novel, though it could be. This
is just one example of how provocative Calvin Klein s advertisements have been. Although the ads
boosted sales for the Calvin Klein empire, it angered many parents, religious groups, and even the
media over its message, its image, and its legality.
There is no doubt the ads are in bad taste, but in advertising today, sex sells. Advertising is all based

And that their advertising explodes on the media scene.
Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the advertisements were accused
of violating child pornography laws. On September 8 the Justice Department began looking into
claims that the ads used young models posed in a provocative manner. A Calvin Klein spokeswoman
stated that only one of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18. The fifteen year old girl
that was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad and was proud of her
daughter.
If the parents of the teen models allowed their children to pose for the advertisements, who are we to
blame the CK company for using them. Who are we to look down on Calvin Klein s ads when you can
watch any show on prime time TV and see much worse than what the ads portrayed? Who are we to
suggest that the ads are suggestive when all we know is that, in advertising, sex sells and sells big? Isn
t Calvin Klein just giving the public what it wants?
Calvin Klein has publicly stated that the misunderstood ads had been intended to convey the spirit,
independence, and inner worth of today s young people. Personally, I do not really buy that argument.
Is he saying that the teenagers today are always thinking about it, doing it, or discussing it. But, at the
same time, I don t think the public should automatically label him or his company as perverts for using
sex to sell

Menachem Begin Research Paper
While there are many outstanding individuals discussed during the time period after 1957, I chose
Menachem Begin, the Prime Minister of Israel from 1977 1983. Early in Begin s life, he was inducted
into the Zionist Movement through his father. Becoming a devoted member of Betar, a Zionist
Revisionists Youth Movement as a teen, he also later headed the organization. During World War II,
he had an opportunity to flee to Palestine with his wife, but gave up his ticket to a friend. He was
captured by the Soviets and sent to a Siberian labor camp accused of being a Zionist spy. After being
released he eventually went to work with the British as a translator with their Palestinian units. During
this time or shortly thereafter, he became

Freud Developmental Stages
According to our text, Freud believed in five stages of psychosexual development which he termed
oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital. These stages were important developmental milestones that
individuals needed to successfully pass through without becoming stuck. Freud believed that specific
behavioral occurrences could be traced back to a specific stage in which the person became fixated
(Friedman Schustack, 2012, p. 68). I will focus on the two stages where one might say Lohan became
fixated: The oral stage, and the genital stage. In the oral stage infants become driven to satisfy their
desires to be fed and they relieve the tension by breast or bottle feeding (Friedman Schustack, 2012, p.
67). Healthy individuals are able to

Quebec Nationalism Essay
Although Canada can be defined as a nation state, its vast landscape means many people are faced
with different views and mindsets. Source one simply shows the differences within the nation of
Canada. Eastern and Western Canada, because of their geographical differences, can be faced with
contending loyalties when it comes to some nations aspects of life. Different lifestyles under the same
set of government creates a physiological barrier between a nation. The source also shows the
differences in Quebec nationalism compared to the rest of Canada. Some groups like the FLQ or the
Front for Liberation of Quebec are known for their extremist views of Quebec nationalism. The small

The Mohawk that were protesting to protect their traditional land, were bombarded with thousands of
aggressive army members. The peaceful standoff turned violent and bloody when the army made
contact with the protesters. Both sides of the standoff would be faced with conflicting loyalties
because of their culture and nationalities. The Mohawk would be conflicted between defending
historical property or being nationalistic to Canada. In the same view, the army would want to follow
orders but could be conflicting between standing up against fellow Canadians. The source shows the
tension between the contending groups, but also shows how each party felt about the matter. Their
faces show the pain that is felt because of the land claim. When the government made the choice to
expand a golf course onto the Oka land, even after Mohawk people formed complaints, they were

  • 2. Explain How To Keep The Road Out Of Pavers Typically you see roads that are made out of asphalt or dirt. Mainly because these roads are more reliable to use in areas of heavy traffic. They are less likely to have bumps or potholes in them. They are also the least expensive to make. But in some subdivisions they will not be asphalt the road will be made out of pavers. If you look closely you will even see rocks in between each individual paver. These roads are more expensive and time consuming to put in. But they can handle weather easier such as heavy amounts of rain if they are installed properly. You can t just use any paver though. To make sure you get the right paver you want to look at its thickness. Different sizes will be able to hold different things. Like Most planks and slabs are not suitable for vehicular applications (Designing the Pavement System). But you also do not want to overkill it and use pavers that are too thick. This would make your costs go up by a lot. It will also take more time to install and get the pavers delivered to you. It will decrease the amount that will be able to fit on a pallet, thus decreasing the amount you can fit on a Semi truck. To figure out the thickness of paver required for what you are trying to make you would want to find out the Aspect ratio. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Behavior Of Fish In An Egyptian Tea Garden Robin Suazo Mrs. Inouye IB English HL 2, Period 5 01/22/18 Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea Garden Keith Douglas Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea Garden was written in 1968 and published in the Poetry of the Forties. The setting of the poem takes place in an egyptian tea garden as presumably stated in the title. In the poem, Keith Douglas strategically emphasizes a woman s ability to entice and seduce men with her beauty, as well as the same woman being objectified through the usage of structure, language and style. To begin, the first stanza introduces the woman and further establishes the setting. A simile is used to introduce a woman who is being admired by other men, As a white stone draws down the fish/ she on the seafloor of the afternoon/ draws down men s glances and their cruel wish/ for love (1). The woman is representing the white stone which draws the attention of the fish, who represent men. However, the white stone that represents the woman is ironic because the color white usually implies innocence and purity, which is the opposite of the woman represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also implies how women are objectified by men. The poem has 7 stanzas with 4 lines each, showing a sense of balancement within the poem and the speaker. However, even though the poem looks like it follows a rhyme scheme, it does not. The first four stanzas have a rhyme scheme differing from one another and the last three stanzas have no rhyme scheme at all. This could connect to the idea of relationships and the idea of appearance vs. reality. In other words, a relationship might not be what it looks like, and could question the idea of love in general. The use of structure, language and style was effectively used throughout the poem to emphasize the objectification of women and their ability to seduce men with their ... Kimberle Crenshaw coined the term in her article Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex: A Black Feminist Critique of Antidiscrimination Doctrine, Feminist Theory and Anti racist Politics (1889) whereby her main focus is on the intersection of race and sex. Crenshaw refers to intersectionality as a crossroad to describe how multiple oppressions are experienced. In her article she examines intersectionality through how the court interpret black women s stories. She uses the case DeGrafffenreid V General Motors, whereby five black women (the Plaintiffs) accused the employers of discriminating against black women, as they lost their jobs after 1970 due to a seniority based layoff during recession. Nevertheless, the judge rejected the plaintiffs claim, as the court states that they would of helped if it was an action for race or sex, but not a combination of both (Crenshaw, 1989, p.141). The example Crenshaw gives, identifies how multiple oppressions are experienced within intersectionality. In October 2016 Crenshaw gave an empowering speech on how the media only covers black male discrimination by the state, yet there are no stories about how black women are discriminated by the state, ... Her father was Edward Augustus, duke of Kent and Strathern, the fourth son of George III and youngest brother of George IV and William IV; they were kings of Great Britain. Palmerston, independent and self assertive, disregarded the request. Their conflict reached a crucial period in 1851, when the prime minister, Lord John Russell, who was also unhappy with Palmerston s elective methods, removed him from the foreign office. Their altercations with Palmerston, one of the most liked political leaders in the country, caused Victoria and Albert to lose some of the regard of their subjects. Their popularity dwindled even more in 1854, when they tried to avert the Crimean War. After the war had started, however, they gave it their sincere support. In 1856, shortly before the end of the war, the queen established the Victoria Cross, the highest British award for wartime courage. In 1857, Victoria had the title of Prince Associate granted on Albert. Four years later he died, and she remained in implied grieving for much of the rest of her life. She avoided common appearances, letting the prince of Wales accomplish most of the royal ritualistic duties. He is known for a widely spread argument in Philosophy called the Chinese Room Argument . He published his work onto paper in 1980. The argument follows that: Searle imagines himself alone in a room following a computer program for responding to Chinese characters slipped under the door. Searle understands nothing of Chinese, and yet, by following the program for manipulating symbols and numerals just as a computer does, he produces appropriate strings of Chinese characters that fool those outside into thinking there is a Chinese speaker in the room. With different ideals and thoughts that are popular in society, there are a number of different portrayals of the human body, and three of them are Michelangelo s David, Millais Ophelia and Cindy Sherman s Untitled Film Still #35. Michelangelo s David is a masterpiece and one of the most recognizable statues in the entire world of art. Standing 13 feet tall, the double life sized David is depicted patiently waiting for battle, prepped with slingshot in one hand and stone in the other. The human body is glorified in this piece, with every detail being showered in beauty and aesthetics that were viewed as beautiful at the time. The detail is astounding, his veins are visible in his arms and hands as he clutches the stones with one hand and the slingshot in the other, his hands and his head appear to be disproportionally large for his body, because they were deemed more visually important for viewers who would see the statue high up on the exterior of the cathedral. Also, his left leg, which straddles the rocky base upon which he stands, appears a big too long for his body, it accentuates the line of this leg as it forms an essential component in David s contrapposto stance. The event I think had the most important affect is The Persian and Peloponnesian wars. The Persian war begun because the lonians city states owed money to Persia and the lonians city states were conquered by Cyrus II of Persia. The reasons for the Peloponnesian war are the democratic reforms of Cleisthenes but Sparta always denied this and Athenian control of the Delian League. Both of these wars affected Greek history. These wars occurred during and after Pericles and lasted until the end of Alexander the Great. It ended with the defeat of Athens. The Persian wars were fought because Darius I was out to attack the land of the Greeks. Their were two Persian wars that occurred. The first was the Battle of Marathon, under control of Darius I was a battle of Persia vs Athens. During the first war the Athenians used phalanx formation which meant they had long spears to defeat the Persians. The second war was when Persia was under control of Xerxes I. The Persians invaded them so badly that Athens was to weak to fight back on their own. They had to request help from other city states. Members of these work groups are often selected based upon their experience, expertise, and ability to contribute and impact the performance of a given task. Aside from functioning as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also the precursor to noradrenaline in all central and peripheral noradrenergic neurons. Dopamine is made from the precursor Tyrosine which is converted to DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, and DOPA is then converted to dopamine by the enzyme dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme has a much higher activity in comparison to tyrosine hydroxylase so under normal conditions there is little or no endogenous DOPA found in most cells. The first line of treatment for a patient is to replenish their dopamine stores, which have diminished due to loss of dopaminergic neurones. As dopamine cannot cross the blood brain barrier it is of no use to simply administer dopamine, instead its precursor L DOPA is given. This is able to cross the blood brain barrier upon which it is then converted to dopamine by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase. However L DOPA can also be converted to dopamine in the periphery, which can cause unwanted effects and so to prevent this a decarboxylase inhibitor is given. Not only does this reduce adverse effects but also lowers the effective dose. One reason for this is the need for automobiles that have a lower or a zero carbon footprint. For the majority of the history of the automobile, the propulsion system was a gas or a diesel engine that would run off of fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is very hazardous to our world and also creates much toxic pollution. However, electric cars run off of electricity, which is a very clean and pollution free resource, depending on how the electricity was produced of course. In this paper we are going to examine the history of electric cars, look into modern electric car technology, and peer into the future of electric car technology to see if EVs might be the answer to dramatically reducing our global pollution. In the 1800s the development of the battery and the electric motor led to the first electric vehicles on the road. It is hard to pinpoint the invention of the electric car to just one inventor or country so several inventors have been given credit for the invention of the electric car. A Hungarian named Anyos Jedlik invented a small model car powered by an electric motor in 1828. And roughly between the years of 1832 and 1839, Robert Anderson of Scotland invented a crude electric carriage. Like many words in the English language, bureaucracy has been twisted over the years to mean something different; much like how awful went from meaning full of awe to very bad or unpleasant . In And the Band Played On, we see organizational practices that obstruct progress referred to as bureaucratic , when the official definition refers to a system of governance where state officials make important decisions instead of representatives. A complete switch in how we see our administration and governmental organizations occurs because people do not trust their leaders. This fear of the unknown is the central theme of the movie and relates back to the United States governance: of the people, by the people, for the people. When the public deems that they are not making the important decisions, then bureaucracy has turned on its head and the ironic use becomes the true pronouncement. Irony is rampant in the movie, especially in use by the gay movement to cover the underlying horror of the disease. An unknown disease that is not like anything anyone has seen before, but that multiple providers are reporting. When providers report it to higher officials, or escalate the issues, there are multiple roadblocks to their forward movement, but these roadblocks all stem from fear. For example, the French doctor who fights public fears and opinions, saying: That hospital where those people go . The fear of the disease spreads, along with the disease, everywhere. ... • 31. Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an atom loses or gains an electron. The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction. The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Electron affinity, on the other hand, describes the energy that is released when an electron binds to an atom. This tells us that since energy is released, the electron affinities will be negative. Another example of the differences between electron affinity and ionization energy is that ionization energy is related with making cations from neutral atoms due to the fact that it measures the amount of energy needed to remove an electron. In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being added. Universal truths such as struggle, endurance, and agony help authors influence their audiences. These truths cause the readers to become cognizant of and appreciate the authors. Death From Different Views Of Poetry Death from Different Views in Poetry Rikkie Oree Johnson Way ENG125: Introduction to Literature Instructor: Lisa Walsh October 26, 2014 The act of dying has been a fact of life since we have become into existence. Death by human nature is something most individuals do not look for with anticipation, others fear, and some even try to prolonged the life and ignore the unavoidable looming death that awaits us all. Death is not a controllable factor for anyone it comes as it will and it takes in the end all of us. The difference in how Thomas s poem on death Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night and Because I could not stop for Death, by Emily Dickenson are striking, and merit further examination. Both works are about death and the experience of dying however, but the feel and vigor within the works are strikingly different, by looking at the literary devices , usage of metaphor, symbolism and the overall style within each work as well as the themes within each work the differences will be clear. What drew me to this topic is the fact that I have experienced my share of death in my lifetime, at a young age I lost my father then in a few months time I was to lose my best friend, then another friend and lastly my paternal grandmother, all within three months time they died in separate and sometimes sudden and unexpected ways. Just as artist view art with different perspectives, its reasonable to view the truth in the same way, therefore everything we see is a perspective not the truth. Italo Calvino uses the art of writing and fiction to enlighten us with the truth, that is not really a truth but rather what you interpret from your perspective, and suggests that things are not always what they appear to be in The Nonexistent Knight. The tension created by the irony in this tale is the result of the intimate relationship between the annoying Sister Theodora and the reader, along with her closing confession that she and Bradamente are one and the same. ... The Ideas Of Kierkegaard And Pascal There are some questions in the religious domain that reason cannot answer because there are situations in every religion that cannot logically be explained. Religions are not rational; therefore, reason alone is not adequate enough to validate religious truths. In this paper, I will demonstrate how reason and faith aren t separate entities and how both are needed in order to explain all religious truths by examining the ideas of Kierkegaard and Pascal. I will also give a detailed explanation of fideism, show examples of irresponsible fideism and responsible fideism and then argue in favor of responsible fideism; faith fills in the gaps that are left void by reason. A truly authentic faith is not one that is established upon the root of reason and scientific facts, but rather transcends those human accomplishments and challenges to understand God and the world as we know it, through an existentialist view. Belief should be purely a matter of the will. To have ultimate and unwavering faith in God, and Christian belief, is impossible to comprehend and that is exactly how the great theological philosopher Soren Kierkegaard saw the Christian faith. He stated that Christianity is unfeasible and is ridiculous in its claims of God becoming man. Blaise Pascal was another philosopher who had a somewhat different view of God, and faith. He explained that reason and faith were not enough to believe in God. According to Pascal, it was somewhat easier to have the choice to believe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay Section 2. Investigation Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority. Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power for ... Reality Of Cinem A Subjective Perspective Tesla Teed Professor Christina Kallas Intro to Film 29 September 2014 Reality in Cinema: A Subjective Perspective Ever since the inception of cinema, questions about film s ability to capture or distort true reality have plagued the medium. It is a question which satisfies most academic types: it involves existential questioning of reality , film theory (which, in itself, just sounds intelligent), and esoteric mostly esoteric film knowledge and jargon. Though it s a question that has been long dominated by pretension and esotericism, it s a very valid one that is important to investigate. Reality distortion through film is particularly salient because it affects almost all who watch movies, which is a lot of people. During my research, I ve come to a conclusion: Even though an objective reality in cinema doesn t exist, there are types of representations of reality that can have seriously damaging implications. These are representations of the world which are intended to be impetuses for the harm of others. Films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Battleship Potemkin showcase this potential to dictate and distort reality. First, in order to decide whether reality distortion through film has any immediate implications, we must establish that it is impossible to capture an objective reality through film. Though this is not an essay that is exactly concerned with philosophical posturing, a bit of existentialist thought is required when asking the question of whether or ...
